Drug Trafficking Organizations And Drugs
Drug Trafficking Organizations
Imagine living in a place where you can kill anyone you wish and nothing happens except that
they fall dead (Morris 216). With drug trafficking organizations people in Mexico live in a world
where this is part of their everyday lives. More than 16,600 deaths were attributed to drug
trafficking in 2011 (Schedler 6). People live in a world like the Wild West where there seems to be
no social control. This is a problem because innocent people are losing their lives over something
that they can not control. Citizens throughout Mexico have learned to live with the consequences
of organized crime caused by the Mexican drug cartels in their day to day lives.
Drug Trafficking Organizations, otherwise called DTO, are organizations that engage in criminal
activity revolving around the illegal drug trade. According to Andreas Schedler in his article, The
Criminal Subversion of Mexican Democracy, this criminal activity includes the manufacturing of
drugs all the way to the distribution of them all over the world (9). This is important because if it
was not for drug trafficking and the crimes associated with it, there would not be as much violence
in Mexican society. Furthermore, the process of manufacturing drugs likely involves many other
illegal activities like the use of dangerous chemicals, access to firearms along with other dangerous
weapons, and theft.
There are many DTO s in the country of Mexico. Some have been around for centuries, while

Pros And Cons Of Going To Hit The Jack Pot
There are many things going through peoples mind in free agents. Like what team is gonna hit
the Jackpot. I m here to tell that the team to hit that jackpot will be OKC after they retain Kevin
Durant. There are many reasons why people think hes not gonna go back to OKC such as they
choked but is that a real reason. KD is gonna give the Thunder another shot. Reason being is
because they lost one game away from NBA finals. That at least means there gonna make it that
far again with KD on the team. Second KD will not leave Westbrook behind ( point guard for
Thunder). They will go to be a free agent together. They are both the stars of the team and they
won t let the fan base go so what are they gonna do. Well as we all know best friends should

Biological Explanations Of Crime Analysis
Biological Explanations of Crime Strengths and weakness
Biological explanations of crime suggests that crime is due to the nature of an individual, this is
highly controversial as it suggests crime is innate and not a cause of the environment. These
theories suggest that criminals are born with criminal tendencies. This essay will discuss various
biological explanations of crime and point out some strengths and weaknesses. Cesare Lombroso,
whom established criminology as a science, founded this theory. He gathered facts in an empirical
study and found physiological characteristics to identify The Criminal Man , these characteristics
were; head size (circumference/diameter), non symmetric facial features, sloping forehead,
protruding jaw, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This made it seem as though the explanation was not biological but due to nurture. This could
cause an issue in stereotyping as Sheldon suggested mesomorphs are more likely to be criminals,
and working class people are more likely to be mesomorphs, it could cause stereotyping in the
fact that people see working class people as more delinquent (Flanagan 2011). The method was
also flawed in the fact that Sheldon rated the body types himself, this would cause researcher bias
as he may consciously or unconsciously rate the bodies according to what supports his theory. This
could have been overcome by using a second person to rate the bodies; this would increase inter

Most software for Linux is included with its installation CD, whereas for Windows, everything
must be purchased separately for a high price. Also, in most situations, the software for both
operating systems is equivalent, yet there is a significant price difference between them. A person
using the computer on a daily basis and who needs various software applications will prefer Linux
over Windows.
HARDWARE:
More hardware is available for Windows than for Linux. However, Linux is compatible with
most hardware and it runs on almost any platform. It can also run from a CD ROM whereas
Windows has to be installed on the hard drive before it can be used. So, for someone who uses a
lot of hardware such as CD/DVD burner or printer, Windows would be more beneficial than Linux.
USER INTERFACE:
Windows is more user friendly thank Linux. However, Linux is more customizable than Windows
since its code is accessible to anyone. For someone who does not care much about the extra
features such as the uniqueness of the desktop, Windows will be better because of its user friendly
interface.
SECURITY/STABILITY:
As of May 2004, it was calculated that there are about 40000 viruses created for Windows over
the past ten years.[1] Furthermore, this count of viruses implies that Windows is being attacked by
almost 10 viruses per day. Compared to Windows, Linux is virus free. Linux strictly asks for the

Loss Of Humanity In The Vampire Diaries
In what s become a most unwelcomed trend of season seven, The Vampire Diaries sidelines its
far more interesting material, yet again, to focus on a boring old game of cat and mouse. Which
is something this show typically does well, even if it s only because they do it so often. Almost
immediately in this case however, the stakes are lowered when we discover from Fake Stefan that
his soul could easily hop into the body of a transitioning vampire, leaving Stefan s body safe. So
while it s not ideal, what with having to sacrifice a human life and all if it really came down to
the wire Stefan could jump out of Marty s dying body and live to fight another few days.
That would also give us more time to spend with Fake Stefan. Who has somehow been the most
enjoyable antagonist of the entire season. Yes, as predicted he s basically Real Stefan with his
humanity switch off, but the portrayal is different enough where you can look at him and truly
believe it s someone else. And, unlike the heretics, Rayna, or The Armory, he was actually fun to
watch. He made that Memphis frat house his personal playground and it was awesome. Plus, his

She s gone undercover at a psych ward in order to get close to Virginia, who is part of The

Or was it just part of the act for Bonnie, and a sneaky way to make us feel like something a lot
worse had happened to her? My money s on the latter, considering the show we re talking about.
Either way, her plan works flawlessly and she easily extracts the information about why The
Armory wants her: to open a vault that was originally sealed by a Bennett witch several decades
ago. The mere thought of the vault being opened was enough to send Virginia off the edge, and

Bartleby Underground Man Analysis
Throughout literature, the theme of alienation has held various personas that have been viewed
in different ways. Since the 1980s the rate of adults who consider themselves isolated has
doubled (Morning Shift). Learning this led me to believe that an isolated individual like
Bartleby and the Underground Man are more relatable to us now. Alienation can be romanticised
to an extent due to the mysteriousness a character can hold because he is an unknown. Humans
find that which they cannot have the most appealing whether it be a candy bar, or allow
interaction with an individual. Two of the biggest examples of alienation I have seen thus far is
Bartleby and the Underground Man. Both quite odd in their own ways, but isolated nonetheless,
and both by choice. Even though the two characters had their similarities they were also quite
different. For example, the Underground Man while isolated at least made attempts throughout
his lifetime to not be. Bartleby, however, slowly became more and more isolated as the story
went on. To start off let s discuss the Lawyer from Bartleby, the relationship the Lawyer shared
with his subordinates could be identified as a Marx capitalist alienation. As theorized by Marx,
alienation in the workplace is a fourfold process that involves the object being produced, the
process of production, the employee, and his coworkers (Bancroft). For Bartleby, his products
were copies he made for the Lawyer, and the process was the copying he did. From what I

Comparison Of Greed In Elle Woods s Legally Blonde
Despite physical beauty, greed can create an ugly personality that affects relationships with
others. Elle Woods, worked her way up from nothing more than living as a pretty girl to get into
Harvard, in the movie Legally Blonde. While Glinda, of Wicked, used her high social status to
remain in power by tromping down others. Glinda the Good is known as the epitome of goodness
but she stepped on other to work her way up. Elle Woodshowever, was ambitious and worked hard
to better herself and built her way up to prevail as powerful. Both of these women may seem
nothing more than beautiful, but they arose above what people thought they could become to
ensue as powerful, although in extremely different ways. Glinda s greed left her well liked, but
also isolated, depressed and alone, while Elle Woods s ambition gave her a happier future and
more successful life.
At the beginning of Legally Blonde, Elle Woods loses the man she loves to a different girl,
which makes her very upset. Vivian, the girl Elle s ex ended up going out with after Elle and her
boyfriend broke up, was extremely mean to Elle, but she didn t let it get the best of her. When
asked how her first day continued after meeting Vivian, Elle describes it as, good, except for this
horrible preppy girl..who made me look bad in front of the professor. But no biggie (SergeiK).
Despite being bullied by Vivian for the remainder of the movie, Elle chooses to put their
differences aside in the end and try to comfort

The Hidden Oppressiveness in Marriage in The Story of an Hour Marriage is often seen as a
happy or joyful thing for when two partners are in a marital and loving relationship and want to
spend the rest of their lives with each other. However, what many people do not see is that marriage
can also be a blessing and a curse. Each partner has to give up their independence and many of
their freedoms, such personal time or space, and devote the rest of their time and life to their
spouse until death due them part. Kate Chopin indirectly hints that marriage can be oppressive no
matter how kind or loving the marriage is, in her story The Story of An Hour. In the story, Louise

Essay on Evolution of the Geeks
Evolution of the Geeks
In the past 20th century, the word geek has evolved into many different meanings. The term
branched off to create a person with low social skills, often with high intelligence, a person highly
interested in computer technology, and a person with a devotion to something that places him or
her outside of the mainstream. Geek usually has negative connotations within popular culture,
where being a geek tends to be an insult. The term can also be a badge of honor among
subcultures, such as the know it all of Star Trek.
Media dictates popular culture. The television sitcoms I ve watched growing up all displayed who
is the stereotype for a geek. Steve Urkel from Family Matters, Screech from Saved By The Bell,

He was often bullied, made fun of, and taken advantaged from the more physically fit male
students. He also provided the comic relief to the show by being the ever so annoying neighbor.
The character was also showed a love interest to Laura Winslow, a popular and smart classmate
and neighbor played by Kellie Shanygne Williams. In order to pursue her heart, Urkel invented a
machine to transform his physical geeky image to a hunky and charming man, which became his
alter ego Stephan.
The need to become accepted into what is considered cool implies that being a geek is
undesirable to the opposite sex. There is shame placed on the geek about his outer appearance.
Urkel created this alter ego to match his crush s status as the popular and beautiful student. People
would consider them a good match since their outer appearances depict cool. If a geek were to go
out with the hottest cheerleader, people would perceive that as abnormal. With the geek s
appearance changed, his confidence is higher and can allow him to walk with his head held up high.
Sex plays a major role when it comes to the gender of geeks. Males are usually favored to portray
geeks. A stereotypical image of a geek would be a pencil neck geek with pocket protectors and
suspenders. It embodies everything that is opposite of the Marlboro man: the rugged All American
man. Levels of masculinity are weighed to determine how much of a man one is. During football

sources say that Steven Yeun has been spotted filming the series still and of course that wouldn t be

This is if The Walking Dead follows the same story line that the comic books did, which they have
stayed pretty close to so far. If Glenn was dead, Steven Yeun would not have been spotted with Paul
at Hilltop colony.
One theory is that Steven Yeun could be simply there filming flashbacks. If he was doing that, then
Yeun would not have been spotted with Paul and at Hilltop. This one would be pretty hard for
them to explain. The show should have done a better job of hiding their filming from watchful eyes
of fans that do not want Glenn to be gone.
IB Times did share one thing that has fans confused a bit about the fate of Glenn. Steven Yeun has
cut his hair since wrapping up this part of the show according to Michael Traynor, who played
Nicholas. He shared saying that they got haircuts together.
We did it together. That s kind of how we celebrated the day. We went to the barber shop. We got a
little trim. It was good.
If this is the case, then Steven Yeun s character could be coming back without his long signature
locks that haven t been cut. The thing is Traynor might just be doing a great job of tricking the fans

materialized into The Home Depot s stock outs dramatically decreasing.
To create a stronger public image, Home Depot created The Home Depot Foundation which helps
with community home building, disaster relief and veteran job placement assistance.
These initiatives have greatly improved customer satisfaction and recognition in the community by
increasing ratings from 55% to 75% (2008 to 2012).

Committee: General Assembly 3: Social, Cultural, Humanitarian Committee (GA3: SOCHUM)

Issue: Regulating and reducing the alteration of history in public education
General Overview of the Topic
The course of history serves as an influential bridge that connects the past with our education,
future, and perspectives on crucial issues. In public education, history is a school subject that is
taken by a large population of students, and although authors and historians are working to create
content with less bias, the course is bound to present subjectivities. Such examples include the
neglect towards the Soviet era war crimes in Eastern European countries or the lack of attention
given to the Nanking Massacre in Japanese textbooks. These misleading alterations of historical
content can often cause the minds of youths to lack important facts and instead be distorted with
false information. Thus, in order for society to achieve incremental equality and to preserve true

Why I Chose Law School
Since I was 11 years old, I knew that I wanted to go to law school. When I finally started college,

Odysseus And Gilgamesh Comparison Essay
The Odyssey and The Epic of Gilgamesh alike are epic poems about epic heroes. Both of these
poems have a several of similarities and differences. The two writings were written with similar
goals. These works of art are about journeys and the obstacles faced during an epic heroes voyage.
While both of these poems have similar drives within the text there are also several variations.
Although there are several resemblances and variances in the text itself, more specifically, there are
multiple similarities and differences within each of the heroes themselves. There are numerous
ways in which these two epic heroes are similar; one of the ways being that they are both intelligent.
Both Odysseus and Gilgamesh show actions of intelligence throughout the text. Odysseus portrays
his intelligence when planning and leading his men through the Trojan War. Although Gilgamesh is
portrayed as somebody who lacks intelligence within the text, it is told from the beginning that this
epic herois in fact very smart. The text expresses Gilgamesh, who saw the wellspring, the
foundation of the land. He knew the ways. Was wise in all things. Gilgamesh and Odysseus stand

Regardless of the price, we often purchase this item at the most suitable site and time, especially

prices of gasoline at the Muncie Marathon declined, on average, about four cents per gallon per
day throughout the week. While the gas prices at the Muncie Marathon continuously decreased
each day, the gas prices at the Angola Marathon varied each day. Within the first three days, the
gas prices at the Angola Marathon decreased about two and a half cents each day, on average. On
the last day data was recorded, the trend at the Angola Marathon was reversed, and the price of gas
increased by one cent. While the gas prices at the two different locations slightly wavered
throughout the week, they did not change as much as expected. Considering all of the natural
disasters occurring throughout the United States, I projected much different results. Even though
the prices did not change significantly, the data recorded was from the same gas station. We often
compare prices of the same item between various companies, but we do not often ponder about
comparing prices of the same item from the same company. From the data recorded, we can see
that the same item from the same company also varies in price.

Pros And Cons Of Corporal Punishment
Corporal punishment is a type of physical punishment that has been allowed in 19 states to be used
as a way of discipline for misbehaving children. This physical punishment is mostly relating to

Other punishments aren t as long lasting.[d] For example, being suspended is like a vacation,

Foreign Exchange Hedging Strategies at General Motors
Foreign Exchange Hedging Strategies at General Motors: Transactional and Translational
Exposures Prepared By: Danial Wahaj Khan EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This report is based on a
practical scenario solution of General motors. The report addresses the problem given in scenario
which is the change in policy of hedging with detailed reasoning. The report then looks at the
different available hedging instruments to the firm. Profitability of both instruments has been
compared and lowest cost option was selected to mitigate the transactional risk. Translation risk has
also been seen at different hedging ratio levels; current one and the proposed one. The options were
more profitable to the firm that has been recommended. Argentinean subsidiary s... Show more

Alternative strategies can also be used by netting off the amount or using futures however for that
management s time will be an issue. THE ARGENTINEAN PESO: The case with the Argentinean
subsidiary is not similar to the first one. The Argentinean government is facing significant
financial problems which throws doubts on its default. The country has very poor economic
situation with no reforms and recent devaluation of currency has caused the managers to think
over the strategy that should be followed. The manager did perform some hedging calculation
though however hedging is used where there is risk in the short term and where risk cannot be
transferred. In this case where we can easily see that local currency is devaluing with great pace
we should look for a long term strategy. Hedging strategy of GM should not be altered in this
regard however by other options we can find a solution. In such situations where government is
facing hard times financially, government puts restriction on the level of remittance to the parent
company. There is a significant risk involved with this investment and if there are any chances of
this restriction then company should assess whether it is worthwhile to stay in operations there as
it may cause severe problems for a company if it can t withdraw its investments. Other options to
deal with that could be

Social Reform Dbq
The 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act eradicated the previous systems of relief offered to the poor
in Victorian England before 1834. This legislation was written up and passed with relatively little
difficulty and a lot of parliamentary support. The gist of the amendment was to decrease the
amount of impoverished citizens. This was the ultimate goal without providing any actual help
for the poor themselves. The 1834 amendment reformed poor laws across the country while also
establishing a wide network of workhouses as was fashioned in the amendment. Prior to the
amendment attitudes toward the poor were changing as the Industrial Revolution caused a rapid
upsurge in the number of poor. The poor were being increasingly viewed as criminals by the
wealthy Upper Class and this is directly reflected in the 1834 Poor LawAmendment Act.

The poor searched hard for employment. There was a mixture of both the skilled and the
unskilled searching for work. Wages were low and were kept low intentionally by employers
who counted on the original Elizabethan Poor Law of 1601 to supplement the low wages they
paid their workers. Once the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act eliminated the outdoor relief which
included money, food and clothing, these low wages were not enough to support the average
lower class Victorian family. Decreasing wages and the shortage in jobs meant people wanted
to live in the city where they would be close to any jobs that became available. Often while
waiting for stable work men would do seasonal work to support their families but once the season
was over they would be left struggling to afford basic necessities like food and shelter. Children
often were expected to work during times like this and work they did, doing some of the most

Interest Rates and Other Critical Determinants of...
Interest Rates and Other Critical Determinants of Investment Spending in Bangladesh
Background
Investment, which is a spending devoted to enhancing or maintaining the existing stock of capital
in the economy provides goods and services necessary for better standard of living. Moreover, it has
greater importance as a policy tool. Policymakers often try to achieve target growth in GDP by
influencing the level of investment. They do so by undertaking policies that influence the rate of
interests. The underlying assumption is that investment is negatively related with the rate of
investment.
Historically, economic theories have suggested negative relationship between investment and
interest rates. Changes in either nominal or real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To investigate the impact of interest rates on investment spending, we use a simple regression
function for the two variables but add several slightly different variables. The starting point of
model formulation is;
I= f (LR, SR, S, Y, ER)В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В…В… (1)
Where, I = Investment LR= Interest rate on loans SR= Interest rate on savings S= Gross Domestic
Savings Y= GDP ER= Exchange rate
Investment is not a function of interest rate alone. Factors like income, savings, and saving rate
along with lending rate are important issues in setting the level of investment. That is why we need
to incorporate all of them in the regression function and test the marginal impact of each of them on
investment.
Accordingly, the estimating equation used in this study is;
where, the term e is the stochastic error term that captures the impact of all other variables not
included in the model.
Model Validation
The coefficient , which gives the change in investment due to one unit change in lending rate is
expected to be negative. Other slope coefficients ( are expected to have positive values since their
associated variables, interest on savings, savings, and income respectively should influence
investment positively. The coefficient can take positive or negative values depending on how a
rising trend in exchange rates influence the level of domestic saving. The expected impact is

Bulldogs love to be with their families, but they also like to snooze the day away. You can go off

return home, your pal will be waiting for a snuggle on the couch.
When you come home and plop down on the couch, you may notice that your Bully has left behind

You must realize that your Bulldog is your companion; she isn t an athlete. In fact, Bulldogs are
predisposed for lounging around. If you want a dog to keep you company in your active lifestyle,

Buses, taxis and MRT are used by people day by day. However, the city has some similarities to
other big cities around the world, pressure and rush hours. On the other hand, Taipei is developing
itself into a more technological and environmentally friendly city, with the architectures, buildings,

Disadvantages Of Counterfeit Goods
INTRODUCTION
Counterfeit goods are fake imitations and replicas of products carrying a brand name (Phau Teah,
2009). These goods may include luxury brands from the fashion industry, electronics, software and
pharmaceuticals. Usually these products are of a lower quality as compared to the original.
Companies struggle to protect their goods from being copied since their name, logo, ideas and
designs are copied and sold cheaply in the market. This is unethical and illegal (Chaudhry
Stumpf,2011).
Policy makers of countries have come up with various laws that include heavy fines and
imprisonment for this act. However, these are limited to the supply side of the problem, which
would include the producers, distributers, and marketers of counterfeit goods (Fernandes, 2013).
This problem has grown over 10,000 percent in the past 20 years, partly due to an increase in
consumer demand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some consumers purchase counterfeit luxury brands for their social adjustive function (e.g. to
express themselves and/or to fit in) (Wilcox, Kim Sen, 2009). If the social group the consumer
desires to be a part of, disapproves of such consumption, the perceived social risk involved in the
purchase of counterfeit product reduces consumer intention to purchase counterfeits. Consumers
might refrain from using such goods because they might be afraid of the embarrassment they will
have to face if it is detected that their belonging is not original (Chaudhry Stumpf, 2011). Here, the
consumption or purchase of the counterfeit will cause the individual to lose social capital from
peers or society. When risk is activated consumers are more motivated to avoid negative
consequences than to maximize utility (Mandel, 2003). However, Sinha and Mandel (2008) found
that rising social risks and/or consequences of such utilization may not work for consumers who
have high tolerance for risk (i.e. high optimal stimulation

Treatment For Allergic Rhinitis
To cure allergic rhinitis, the patients are often advised to avoid the cause of allergy, such as house

Medication: Antihistamine nasal spray, Sodium cromoglicate nasal spray, Ipratropium bromide
nasal spray, and Decongestant nasal sprays (for adults) and antihistamine tablets (for children) are
given to get an instant relief from the allergic reactions and nose inflammation. If a person has eye
symptoms, eye drops are prescribed in addition to other medications.
Immunotherapy/Desensitization: This treatment is mainly suggested in severe cases. It is
performed by applying a series of allergen injections (in rising quantities) to desensitize the patient s

The name of my company is Florely. Most people would name their business after their family
name, such as their last name. For an example, Johnson Johnson was named after Robert Wood

Teenage Wasteland
Teenage Wasteland The teenagers I interviewed were all relatively affluent, by all appearances
and their own admission, and this in and of itself created some differences between their
perspectives and my own. In general, however, I think that the passage of time and the different
values and perspectives of parents and of teenagers in the current era are more responsible for
the changes in responses that I observed in the interview as opposed to what I myself might
have said as a teenager in answer to the questions posed in the interview. What they liked about
being a teenager was relative freedom while still being able to depend on their parents, and they
disliked the rules and the amount of activities they had; they went on to mention best things that
included things ranging from romantic partners to video games, and worst things that focused
primarily on various aspects of school specific teachers, subjects, etc. I, on the other hand, would
have said that my independence was what I liked the most about being a teenager, as this was the
time in my life when my parents made it clear that I both would and should depend on them less
for transportation, keeping myself organized, etc. I disliked the amount of responsibility I had to
some degree, but all of my responsibilities were things of my own choosing and would have also
represented the best thing in my life (the extracurricular activities that I chose to participate in).

could grow their big business, cotton. Also, because of land, the number of cotton farms in
America began to increase greatly. For instance, in Texas, cotton farms grew an astounding
251.6% from 1850 1860. An important human resource that helped increase cotton manufacture
was slaves. Slaves were needed to pick and plant cotton as it was a long and tedious job. From
1800 1860, the amount of slaves increased 342% and by 1860, the slave population amounted to
over 3 million (Davidson, 388). Money and profit was a very imperative capital resource. After
farmers collected their profits, they would buy more slaves, land, and machinery in hopes of
improving their cotton business and growing more cotton (Davidson, 388 389). ... Show more

The growth of the textile industry in Britain boosted the cotton sales in America. Textile industry
was dependent on cotton and 75% of their cotton came from farms in the South(Dattel). The
demand of cloth also affected the demand of cotton. The North needed cotton for their cloth and
textile industry after it grew during the Industrial Revolution(Dattel). The War of 1812 caused
Americans to start creating their own industries and goods after Britain cut off vital goods out of
the United States. In this period of time, there was a huge demand for cotton as American citizens
standard of living grew. Since there was a huge demand, farmers made a large profit. (Davidson,

Iago Role In Othello
If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do you no harm. This African proverb
suggests that only your weakness and inner insecurities can help your enemy to destroy you.
Among all great plays of William Shakespeare the tragedy of Othello the moor of Venice
considered the most tragic as the massive destructions the play ends with. The play is also
considered as a domestic tragedywhich is about a black general in the Venetian army (Othello) who
experiences a great fall caused by love, rage, and jealousy. After being Egged by the words of a
proficient manipulator (Iago) ends up with killing his beloved wife (Desdemona) and killing
himself. However, the role played by Iago in the play was interpreted differently by many literary...

The Policy Reforms During The Military Regime
Over the last half century, Brazil has seen a change in state run control from a military dictatorship
to a liberal democratic regime. This transition was coupled with an economic shift from import
substitution industrialization (ISI) to a neoliberal understanding of export led industrialization. The
subsequent reforms attempted to align the state with liberal ideology particularly through the
presidencies of Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Luiz InГЎcio Lula da Silva. Considering the
extent of policy reforms that occurred in the state, it s a clear delegitimation of the former military
regime. The aspiration to achieve individual liberty, autonomy, and security in terms of free civil
societies did not advance as a smooth conjunction. Although the authoritarian state abdicated to an
electoral democracy, much of the military style enforcement remains an accepted aspect of Brazil,
which clearly violates democratic principles of civil rights. This paper will analyze policies that
ostensibly fortify the judiciary institutions, which are aimed to improve the blatant lack of
accountability and efficacy that has plagued the country since the military regime. Even though
neoliberal policies are known to erode substantive democracy, they are considered to promote
formal democracy. As such, the progression of the institutional systems has allowed a wider
representation of the political spectrum that encourages participation and the growth of more
transparent civil societies. However,

Parenting Is A Legacy For Children
Parenting: A Legacy For Children
Parenting is a process of supporting children through the ups and downs of life. From infancy to
adulthood, parents play an important role in the development of their children. They are expected
to ensure the child s health and safety, prepare them to function as citizens of society, and teach
them about what is important in life. Many parents learn how to parent by looking at the way they
were raised. However, with the stresses and strains that families face today, it is also a good idea
to be open to adding parenting tools to their toolbox. These tools are taught at places such as a
parent education group for ex offenders. Most of them have children of various ages. A social
worker leads the group to enhance their knowledge and skill sets and share topics such as being
present in the child s life, praising a child, effective discipline, and unconditional love. Parents
need to be present in their child s life, more connected, despite all the struggles and chaos of
living. Both child and parent need to get sufficient sleep, which enables them to function better.
When people are sleep deprived, they do not perform as well and are likely to be irritable.
Waiting until the weekend or a day off from regular activities to catch up on sleep does not work.
Also, cell phones need a break. Constantly being attached to cell phones hinders people s abilities
to interact. Parents who model this behavior may make their child feel that phone conversations
are more important than interactions with them. There was a woman who said hello to a
teenager while in the community. In response, the young man was not sure of what to say. He
was so used to talking and texting to people on his cell phone that he found it difficult to talk to
someone in person. In addition, join in on your child s fun. If a child is doing arts and crafts,
playing a sport, or watching a TV show, participate in the activities. Even when a parent is not
physically able to do a sport, they can ask their child about it. They can also go to sporting events
and talk about the activity. The main point is to stay connected to your child and their interests. In
response to the social worker s presentation, various

Healthcare-Associated Infection Paper
Healthcare associated infections (HAIs) are infections patients can acquire in a healthcare facility
while being given medical care. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention s (CDC) website
notes six major sites of infection that patients are at risk of acquiring while receiving care in acute
care hospitals in the United States: pneumonia, gastrointestinal illness, urinary tract infections,
primary bloodstream infections, surgical site infections from any inpatient surgery, and other types
of infections. Their website recounts that as early as 1847 evidence is documented of persons
acquiring infections while receiving care in a hospital. The website for the U.S. Department of

Each state can compare its statistical data to the standardized infection ratio (SIR), a summarized
ratio of the culmination of national data; this is an excellent method to track the progress in the
goal of reducing and eventually eradicating HAIs. The report for the state of Kentucky on HAIs in
the state s acute care hospitals was based on information received from a total of 116 hospitals that
provided data for this survey. Unfortunately, the incidence of reported HAIs associated with
Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a type of laboratory identified hospital onset
bloodstream infection, is extremely high. Kentucky s reported incidences in 2014 of patients
infected with MRSA while being treated in acute care hospitals is 25% higher than the national
baseline. This information is a red flag for the state s epidemiology experts and healthcare
professionals, that infection control protocol in place should be reviewed and researched to
determine what can be done, either on a hospital to hospital based level or a state wide level, to
improve the efficiency of reducing or eliminating HAIs that are associated with MRSA infections.
One area that the state s statistical data rates very well is in Central Line Associated Bloodstream
Infections (CLABSIs). Kentucky s number of reported incidences of this type of infection is 45%
lower than the national baseline, suggesting that the protocol used for this type of infection is very
effective compared to what is practiced in other

Covert Vs Overt Attention
Every day we are faced with numerous visual inputs and our brain needs to filter and select the
information of interest. This selection can be achieved either endogenously (top down, guided by
behavioural goal) or exogenously (bottom up, guided by salient visual event) (Posner Cohen, 1980).
Endogenous and exogenous shift of attention can be directed to the visual stimuli either
accompanied with eye and/or head movement referred as overt attention or independently of any
gaze movement referred as covert attention (Findlay Gilchrist, 2003).
The relationship between covert and overt attention has been the subject of numerous studies in the
past decades, and behavioural as well as neurophysiological data suggest that both are tightly
coupled. One influential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spatial attention is assumed to arise from an activation of the brain map that transforms spatial
information into movement representations (Rizzolatti Craighero, 1998). Thus, the shift of visual
attention would rely on the programming of a saccadic eye movement, whether this movement is
actually executed (overt attention) or not (covert attention). In the lab, one classical paradigm used
to study the covert shift of spatial attention is the cueing paradigm, where participants are asked to
fixate a central point while a predictive cue is briefly flashed to direct their attention towards a
peripheral target (Posner, Snyder, Davidson, 1980). Classical results obtained with this paradigm
reveal that the location of the cue modulates the visual perception of the spatial location even
without making any eye movement. Indeed when the cue is valid, that is when it provides correct
information on the location of the upcoming target participants perform better compared to
conditions where the cue in invalid.

Evaluating Kodak s Corporate Strategy
Background Eastman Kodak Company, headquartered in Rochester New York, was founded in

posted revenues in excess of $6 billion in 2011. During most of the 20th century Kodak was
dominant in the photographic film industry in 1976 it held 90% of the market but began a
downward slide once the Internet, digital cameras and computer processing grew. By 2007,
Kodak ceased making a profit and in January 2012 filed for bankruptcy protection and ceased
making cameras, video cameras and began to focus on the corporate digital imaging market (De La

Burger King is the world s largest chain of flame broiled fast food restaurants. Its core competency
is its flame broiled burgers; whereas other fast food hamburger joints serve fried burgers or no
burgers at all, Burger King offers the unique flame broiled burgers with any options that a customer
might like, consumers have the benefit of having a burger they cannot find elsewhere. Initially
Burger King only sold burgers, fries, shakes, and sodas; but they have chosen to expand to offering
chicken, fish, salads etc. Although they offer these extra items, they have elected to stay true to
their original flame broiled burgers and their chosen strategy is to focus on the whopper as their ...

When people are in a center like environment for example a mall then it is easier to pick
whatever food is there rather than to look elsewhere and return to hang out or shop; therefore
Burger King would have an upper hand if it is one of the foods available.
Burger King is headquartered in Miami, because of its near proximity to Latin America. This
strategic position has allowed Burger King to ensure its presence in the Latin community. The
South Americans who make a pit stop in Miami in order to enter the United States are familiarize
themselves with the Burger King products, and Burger King is also able to test the products on
indigenous Latin community, before expanding to the Latin countries without the fear of
undergoing rejection. This location in Miami has simplified their entry into the Latin countries and
businesses seeking franchises find it easier to work with them. Burger King has strengthened their
global competitive position in the Latin countries, but we find that these countries are not heavily
populated; they should also try to expand to denser populations like those of China, India, Nigeria
etc. this could prove to be more profitable in the long run. Burger King can use the South American
countries to understand how to expand appropriately in other

Granted that the Spielberg, may have chosen to create the film based on The BFG by Roald Dahl,
the way he perceived it and the elements he sought to take away from the original story differs
from what someone else perceived , and not everyone would respond to it positively.
3. Book versus. Film
It was discovered that the amount of people who had favoured the film over the book and vice
versa (Figure 3.1) were the same: 50% (12 respondents each). Interestingly, the top reasons behind
the interviewees preference over the film or book corre links with their preferences for imagination
or reality respectively (Figure 3.2.)
Contradicting this notion is Thomas Leitch s eighth fallacy of Contemporary Adaptation Theory
(2003), where the imagination of the reader or viewer is summoned through different storytelling
devices, at times when they overlap one another, by either the film or the book. Differences
between the use of storytelling devices are more easily determined between projects utilising the
same medium, be it film to film, or book to book. And as The BFG, both the film and the book,
are of the fantasy genre, the film team may have preferred the film as it was easier for them to get

The Discovery Of The Earth s Magnetic Field
The Earth s magnetic field
The discovery of the Earth s magnetic field Over 2000 years ago, the Chinese discovered that
lodestone, a naturally magnetised iron ore, would align itself in a north south direction. Hundreds
of years later, they discovered that their compasses didn t point true north and in fact that this
position changed with time. The compass was first used for navigation in the 11th 12th century,
only arriving in Europe towards the end of this period. Then, in 1600, William Gilbert (Figure 1.1)
published De Magnete, Magnetisque Corporibus, et de Magno Magnete Tellue (On the Magnet and
Magnetic Bodies, and on the Great Magnet the Earth). He concluded that the Earth itself was
magnetic with a centre of iron, and this is why a compass would point north. Figure 1.1 William
Gilbert (1544 1603) , author of De Magnete, the first printed book written by an academically
trained scholar based almost entirely on actual observation and experiment .
The structure of the Earth s Magnetic Field
The Earth s magnetic field can in fact be closely approximated by a magnetic dipole at its centre,
tilted by 11Лљ to the Earth s rotational axis, Figure 1.2. The south pole of this magnetic dipole
actually points northwards such that the north pole on a compass will point towards northwards, and
more precisely, to the Earth s magnetic north pole. The magnetic field strength decreases from the
poles towards the equator. Currently the field is 56 ВµT at the magnetic north

The Murder Of The Manson Family By Timothy Dwight
A murderer is normally defined by the psychological attributes that define him or her. These
killers often suffer from a psychotic delusion that forces them to commit their horrific crimes.
However, those who are pronounced sane and rational have a moral conviction that drives them
to kill. It is this principle that separates the average murder from the psychotic sadists that
believes in what he or she does. Charles Manson, leader of the Manson Family, believed in the
apocalyptic war of Helter Skelter, the uprising of blacks and the mass genocide of whites
(Whitehead). Manson s firm conviction about Helter Skelter separates him from other criminals
who commit their crimes out of insanity. In Travels in New England and New York, author

Due to his hormonal deficiency, Leopold became socially reclusive, often not talking to anyone.
His counterpart, Loeb, was handsome and societal person. However, he possessed a demonical
side, the love for the life of crime. Although the Beadle and Loeb and Leopold lived in different
eras, the attributes that define the murderers are still the same. Whereas Loeb and Leopold focus
on a philosophical conundrum, Beadle is faced with a moral conundrum. However, these characters
share a common dilemma, such as social repression, that emulates the personality of a murderer. It
is these ideals and motivations that exemplify the motivation and belief system that drive a person
to kill. As such, these stories are commendable examples that embody the true crime genre. The
aftermath of the Revolutionary War brought freedom to the colonies, but also caused a brief
economic collapse. Beadle, accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle, would rather face death than be
considered part of the lower class. Dwight acknowledges Beadle s pride as the source of
condemnation. Dwight states, When he [Beadle] saw his circumstances reduced so as to threaten
him with a necessary and humiliating change...pride prompted him...in a sullen hostility against
God and man... (49). The demotion into a different class status frightened Beadle, thus igniting his
sense of pride. Beadle felt that he could not lose the life that he was

The Era Of Reconstruction During The Civil War
The Era of Reconstruction started in 1855. After the Civil war ended the South was left in
shambles. Southern states were left in economic and politic distress and faced renewed social

award freed African Americans the rights to be equal citizens in the eyes of the law, and repair
the breakage in the Union. Though the people worked to restore the South they were unable to get
over the differences and realities needed to become whole again. The South was left in ruins after

Without anywhere to go, freedmen returned to the lands and became a part of a system of labor
called sharecropping . Freedmen were never able to make enough to support themselves and fell
further into debt. Not to mention the major drop in prices of major cash crops that once fueled
the South s economy. Though the whole idea was to entrust freedmen with their independence
and allow the ability to build wealth, but the freedmen were practically remaining slaves but to
the land rather than the landowners. Even those who migrated to cities in order to leave the
plantations were unable to create a standard life. Many freedmen in the city were unable to get
substantial wages and lived a hard life. In an interview with a black labor it is explained, He
admitted to a journalist in 1870 that he had difficulties making ends meet on $1.50 a day (457). It
was common that laborers working in factories or as maids/laundresses could barely afford to
live. Reconstruction was to help these people and help the economy but it never quite succeeded.
In the same case, though given the so called freedoms and rights freedmen struggled to achieve
what was promised. Though the goals of reconstruction were somewhat reached, the ideas of
equality were not completely fulfilled. In order to help the freedmen the Freedmen s Bureau was
created. The agency did strive to help with schools and education, but it lacked in some

According to Annalisa Castaldo, an assistant professor of British Literature at Widener
University, the speech style in Sandman: Worlds End provides a chance to illustrate the
fantastic and unreal much more effectively (Castaldo 97). Gaiman adds three different types of

to play a major part in the tone. For its word choice leading to the ideas of misery,
misunderstanding, and dreams, Worlds End holds an aggressive, mysterious, yet hopeful tone to
it. It appears that Gaiman desires for the novel to stimulate his readers to read his piece of
literature as a serious and peculiar manner by including his artistic comic dialog, which adds a

Why I Chose The Profession Of Pharmacy Essay
Nothing is so dangerous to the progress of the human mind than to assume that our views of science
are ultimate, that there are no mysteries in nature, that our triumphs are complete and that there are
no new worlds to conquer. Humphry Davy (1778 1229), British chemist and inventor. This quote
sums up my desire to pursue a degree in pharmacy. My interest is in finding ways to improve the
field of pharmacy by thinking in a way that makes it possible to look at every unknown in
medicines and find a way to produce an answer. I chose the profession of pharmacy for many
reasons, a Doctor of Pharmacy degree is a step towards reaching my goals, and my background is a
large part of me achieving my goals.
I chose the profession of pharmacy for personal reasons. My mother is a pharmacist in an
independent pharmacy. As a child, I went to work with her and saw what she did daily. I began
to like going to work with her and watch her check prescriptions, along with many other things.
Even when she was out of the pharmacy, she would see customers in public and it was nice to
see her say hello t these people I did not even know. I could tell the pharmacy had its own small
town feel, where everyone knew each other. I liked the idea of that. Also, as I got further along
in school, I had an interest in science and math. I realized how much I liked classes like chemistry
lab. Being able to watch reactions was very interesting to me. Along with my sparked interest as a
child and in school, I

Justification And Justification For The Act Of Being Set...
The simple noun justification refers to the act of being set right or made right. Justification,
however, is not just limited to just being corrected. It has influences in other various meanings to it
as well. For example, justification also means the act of removing debt, being vindicated by judge,
or having a relationship restored all fall under the meaning of justification. This is essentially Gods
act of removing the sin within us humans while considering us to be righteous through Christ s
sacrifice. As stated in Christ Our Salvation , Those who are righteous will live by faith(Larondelle,
10). This means that justification must exist in order to have people who live by faith and for
these people to be saved and redeemed. Justification helps to show that we humans are in need
of daily justification through faith in Christ (Abrams, 97). Sanctification is defined to be the act
or process by which people are cleansed and set apart from others to do God s will. Some
synonyms used in the New Interpreter s Dictionary of the Bible are: to be set apart, to dedicate,
to purify, to make sacred, and to manifest holiness. The Dictionary states that to be sanctified is
to be graciously taken up and set apart for participation in the saving or reconciling purposes of
God. For Christians, this happens when they become and remain part of the community of God s
people, who are shaped by the Holy Spirit in the image of God. This is where God makes us Holy.

  • 2. Drug Trafficking Organizations And Drugs Drug Trafficking Organizations Imagine living in a place where you can kill anyone you wish and nothing happens except that they fall dead (Morris 216). With drug trafficking organizations people in Mexico live in a world where this is part of their everyday lives. More than 16,600 deaths were attributed to drug trafficking in 2011 (Schedler 6). People live in a world like the Wild West where there seems to be no social control. This is a problem because innocent people are losing their lives over something that they can not control. Citizens throughout Mexico have learned to live with the consequences of organized crime caused by the Mexican drug cartels in their day to day lives. Drug Trafficking Organizations, otherwise called DTO, are organizations that engage in criminal activity revolving around the illegal drug trade. According to Andreas Schedler in his article, The Criminal Subversion of Mexican Democracy, this criminal activity includes the manufacturing of drugs all the way to the distribution of them all over the world (9). This is important because if it was not for drug trafficking and the crimes associated with it, there would not be as much violence in Mexican society. Furthermore, the process of manufacturing drugs likely involves many other illegal activities like the use of dangerous chemicals, access to firearms along with other dangerous weapons, and theft. There are many DTO s in the country of Mexico. Some have been around for centuries, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I m here to tell that the team to hit that jackpot will be OKC after they retain Kevin Durant. There are many reasons why people think hes not gonna go back to OKC such as they choked but is that a real reason. KD is gonna give the Thunder another shot. Reason being is because they lost one game away from NBA finals. That at least means there gonna make it that far again with KD on the team. Second KD will not leave Westbrook behind ( point guard for Thunder). They will go to be a free agent together. They are both the stars of the team and they won t let the fan base go so what are they gonna do. Well as we all know best friends should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Biological Explanations Of Crime Analysis Biological Explanations of Crime Strengths and weakness Biological explanations of crime suggests that crime is due to the nature of an individual, this is highly controversial as it suggests crime is innate and not a cause of the environment. These theories suggest that criminals are born with criminal tendencies. This essay will discuss various biological explanations of crime and point out some strengths and weaknesses. Cesare Lombroso, whom established criminology as a science, founded this theory. He gathered facts in an empirical study and found physiological characteristics to identify The Criminal Man , these characteristics were; head size (circumference/diameter), non symmetric facial features, sloping forehead, protruding jaw, ... This could cause an issue in stereotyping as Sheldon suggested mesomorphs are more likely to be criminals, and working class people are more likely to be mesomorphs, it could cause stereotyping in the fact that people see working class people as more delinquent (Flanagan 2011). The method was also flawed in the fact that Sheldon rated the body types himself, this would cause researcher bias as he may consciously or unconsciously rate the bodies according to what supports his theory. Most software for Linux is included with its installation CD, whereas for Windows, everything must be purchased separately for a high price. Also, in most situations, the software for both operating systems is equivalent, yet there is a significant price difference between them. A person using the computer on a daily basis and who needs various software applications will prefer Linux over Windows. HARDWARE: More hardware is available for Windows than for Linux. However, Linux is compatible with most hardware and it runs on almost any platform. It can also run from a CD ROM whereas Windows has to be installed on the hard drive before it can be used. So, for someone who uses a lot of hardware such as CD/DVD burner or printer, Windows would be more beneficial than Linux. USER INTERFACE: Windows is more user friendly thank Linux. However, Linux is more customizable than Windows since its code is accessible to anyone. For someone who does not care much about the extra features such as the uniqueness of the desktop, Windows will be better because of its user friendly interface.

  • 7. Loss Of Humanity In The Vampire Diaries In what s become a most unwelcomed trend of season seven, The Vampire Diaries sidelines its far more interesting material, yet again, to focus on a boring old game of cat and mouse. Which is something this show typically does well, even if it s only because they do it so often. Almost immediately in this case however, the stakes are lowered when we discover from Fake Stefan that his soul could easily hop into the body of a transitioning vampire, leaving Stefan s body safe. So while it s not ideal, what with having to sacrifice a human life and all if it really came down to the wire Stefan could jump out of Marty s dying body and live to fight another few days. That would also give us more time to spend with Fake Stefan. Who has somehow been the most enjoyable antagonist of the entire season. Yes, as predicted he s basically Real Stefan with his humanity switch off, but the portrayal is different enough where you can look at him and truly believe it s someone else. My money s on the latter, considering the show we re talking about. Either way, her plan works flawlessly and she easily extracts the information about why The Armory wants her: to open a vault that was originally sealed by a Bennett witch several decades ago. The mere thought of the vault being opened was enough to send Virginia off the edge, and leave me more than intrigued about what s inside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Bartleby Underground Man Analysis Throughout literature, the theme of alienation has held various personas that have been viewed in different ways. Since the 1980s the rate of adults who consider themselves isolated has doubled (Morning Shift). Learning this led me to believe that an isolated individual like Bartleby and the Underground Man are more relatable to us now. Alienation can be romanticised to an extent due to the mysteriousness a character can hold because he is an unknown. Humans find that which they cannot have the most appealing whether it be a candy bar, or allow interaction with an individual. Two of the biggest examples of alienation I have seen thus far is Bartleby and the Underground Man. Both quite odd in their own ways, but isolated nonetheless, and both by choice. Even though the two characters had their similarities they were also quite different. For example, the Underground Man while isolated at least made attempts throughout his lifetime to not be. Bartleby, however, slowly became more and more isolated as the story went on. To start off let s discuss the Lawyer from Bartleby, the relationship the Lawyer shared with his subordinates could be identified as a Marx capitalist alienation. As theorized by Marx, alienation in the workplace is a fourfold process that involves the object being produced, the process of production, the employee, and his coworkers (Bancroft). For Bartleby, his products were copies he made for the Lawyer, and the process was the copying he did. From what I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Comparison Of Greed In Elle Woods s Legally Blonde Despite physical beauty, greed can create an ugly personality that affects relationships with others. Elle Woods, worked her way up from nothing more than living as a pretty girl to get into Harvard, in the movie Legally Blonde. While Glinda, of Wicked, used her high social status to remain in power by tromping down others. Glinda the Good is known as the epitome of goodness but she stepped on other to work her way up. Elle Woodshowever, was ambitious and worked hard to better herself and built her way up to prevail as powerful. Both of these women may seem nothing more than beautiful, but they arose above what people thought they could become to ensue as powerful, although in extremely different ways. Glinda s greed left her well liked, but also isolated, depressed and alone, while Elle Woods s ambition gave her a happier future and more successful life. At the beginning of Legally Blonde, Elle Woods loses the man she loves to a different girl, which makes her very upset. Vivian, the girl Elle s ex ended up going out with after Elle and her boyfriend broke up, was extremely mean to Elle, but she didn t let it get the best of her. When asked how her first day continued after meeting Vivian, Elle describes it as, good, except for this horrible preppy girl..who made me look bad in front of the professor. But no biggie (SergeiK). • 10. The Hidden Oppressiveness In Marriage In The Story Of An Hour James D. Chang Professor Baker ENGL 1302.05 5 April 2017 The Hidden Oppressiveness in Marriage in The Story of an Hour Marriage is often seen as a happy or joyful thing for when two partners are in a marital and loving relationship and want to spend the rest of their lives with each other. However, what many people do not see is that marriage can also be a blessing and a curse. Each partner has to give up their independence and many of their freedoms, such personal time or space, and devote the rest of their time and life to their spouse until death due them part. The term branched off to create a person with low social skills, often with high intelligence, a person highly interested in computer technology, and a person with a devotion to something that places him or her outside of the mainstream. Geek usually has negative connotations within popular culture, where being a geek tends to be an insult. The term can also be a badge of honor among subcultures, such as the know it all of Star Trek. Social, Cultural, Humanitarian Committee Summary HSINMUN XII 2016 Committee: General Assembly 3: Social, Cultural, Humanitarian Committee (GA3: SOCHUM) Expert Chair: Cheryl Lin (IBSH) Issue: Regulating and reducing the alteration of history in public education General Overview of the Topic The course of history serves as an influential bridge that connects the past with our education, future, and perspectives on crucial issues. In public education, history is a school subject that is taken by a large population of students, and although authors and historians are working to create content with less bias, the course is bound to present subjectivities. Such examples include the neglect towards the Soviet era war crimes in Eastern European countries or the lack of attention given to the Nanking Massacre in Japanese textbooks. The two writings were written with similar goals. These works of art are about journeys and the obstacles faced during an epic heroes voyage. While both of these poems have similar drives within the text there are also several variations. Although there are several resemblances and variances in the text itself, more specifically, there are multiple similarities and differences within each of the heroes themselves. There are numerous ways in which these two epic heroes are similar; one of the ways being that they are both intelligent. Both Odysseus and Gilgamesh show actions of intelligence throughout the text. Odysseus portrays his intelligence when planning and leading his men through the Trojan War. Although Gilgamesh is portrayed as somebody who lacks intelligence within the text, it is told from the beginning that this epic herois in fact very smart. The closest and the promptest option is the one we often lean toward, regardless of the consequence or cost. One of the biggest convenience items within the 21st Century is gasoline. Regardless of the price, we often purchase this item at the most suitable site and time, especially when we are in desperate need of the item. Gasoline companies are alert that convenience is ideal; therefore, they alter gas prices to obtain the greatest amount of business. According to the data recorded, the gasoline prices at the Angola Marathon throughout the week were, on average, about fourteen cents more per gallon than at the Muncie Marathon. The prices of gasoline at the Muncie Marathon declined, on average, about four cents per gallon per day throughout the week. While the gas prices at the Muncie Marathon continuously decreased each day, the gas prices at the Angola Marathon varied each day. Within the first three days, the gas prices at the Angola Marathon decreased about two and a half cents each day, on average. On the last day data was recorded, the trend at the Angola Marathon was reversed, and the price of gas increased by one cent. While the gas prices at the two different locations slightly wavered throughout the week, they did not change as much as expected. Considering all of the natural disasters occurring throughout the United States, I projected much different results. Even though the prices did not change significantly, the data recorded was from the same gas station. We often compare prices of the same item between various companies, but we do not often ponder about comparing prices of the same item from the same company. • 42. Teenage Wasteland Teenage Wasteland The teenagers I interviewed were all relatively affluent, by all appearances and their own admission, and this in and of itself created some differences between their perspectives and my own. In general, however, I think that the passage of time and the different values and perspectives of parents and of teenagers in the current era are more responsible for the changes in responses that I observed in the interview as opposed to what I myself might have said as a teenager in answer to the questions posed in the interview. What they liked about being a teenager was relative freedom while still being able to depend on their parents, and they disliked the rules and the amount of activities they had; they went on to mention best things that included things ranging from romantic partners to video games, and worst things that focused primarily on various aspects of school specific teachers, subjects, etc. I, on the other hand, would have said that my independence was what I liked the most about being a teenager, as this was the time in my life when my parents made it clear that I both would and should depend on them less for transportation, keeping myself organized, etc. I disliked the amount of responsibility I had to some degree, but all of my responsibilities were things of my own choosing and would have also represented the best thing in my life (the extracurricular activities that I chose to participate in). • 43. Cotton From 1850-1860 Factors that influenced the increased production of cotton from 1800s to the 1860s was different resources, demand, and advanced technology. To begin with, natural, human, and capital resources played a huge role in the growth of cotton production. Land was a very essential natural resource to cotton farmers. With fertile land, farmers could grow their big business, cotton. Also, because of land, the number of cotton farms in America began to increase greatly. For instance, in Texas, cotton farms grew an astounding 251.6% from 1850 1860. An important human resource that helped increase cotton manufacture was slaves. Slaves were needed to pick and plant cotton as it was a long and tedious job. From 1800 1860, the amount of slaves increased 342% and by 1860, the slave population amounted to over 3 million (Davidson, 388). Money and profit was a very imperative capital resource. After farmers collected their profits, they would buy more slaves, land, and machinery in hopes of improving their cotton business and growing more cotton (Davidson, 388 389). ... The War of 1812 caused Americans to start creating their own industries and goods after Britain cut off vital goods out of the United States. • 45. The Policy Reforms During The Military Regime Over the last half century, Brazil has seen a change in state run control from a military dictatorship to a liberal democratic regime. This transition was coupled with an economic shift from import substitution industrialization (ISI) to a neoliberal understanding of export led industrialization. The subsequent reforms attempted to align the state with liberal ideology particularly through the presidencies of Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Luiz InГЎcio Lula da Silva. Considering the extent of policy reforms that occurred in the state, it s a clear delegitimation of the former military regime. The aspiration to achieve individual liberty, autonomy, and security in terms of free civil societies did not advance as a smooth conjunction. Although the authoritarian state abdicated to an electoral democracy, much of the military style enforcement remains an accepted aspect of Brazil, which clearly violates democratic principles of civil rights. This paper will analyze policies that ostensibly fortify the judiciary institutions, which are aimed to improve the blatant lack of accountability and efficacy that has plagued the country since the military regime. Even though neoliberal policies are known to erode substantive democracy, they are considered to promote formal democracy. As such, the progression of the institutional systems has allowed a wider representation of the political spectrum that encourages participation and the growth of more transparent civil societies. • 46. Parenting Is A Legacy For Children Parenting: A Legacy For Children Parenting is a process of supporting children through the ups and downs of life. From infancy to adulthood, parents play an important role in the development of their children. They are expected to ensure the child s health and safety, prepare them to function as citizens of society, and teach them about what is important in life. Many parents learn how to parent by looking at the way they were raised. However, with the stresses and strains that families face today, it is also a good idea to be open to adding parenting tools to their toolbox. These tools are taught at places such as a parent education group for ex offenders. Most of them have children of various ages. A social worker leads the group to enhance their knowledge and skill sets and share topics such as being present in the child s life, praising a child, effective discipline, and unconditional love. Parents need to be present in their child s life, more connected, despite all the struggles and chaos of living. Both child and parent need to get sufficient sleep, which enables them to function better. When people are sleep deprived, they do not perform as well and are likely to be irritable. Waiting until the weekend or a day off from regular activities to catch up on sleep does not work. Also, cell phones need a break. Constantly being attached to cell phones hinders people s abilities to interact. Parents who model this behavior may make their child feel that phone conversations are more important than interactions with them. There was a woman who said hello to a teenager while in the community. In response, the young man was not sure of what to say. He was so used to talking and texting to people on his cell phone that he found it difficult to talk to someone in person. In addition, join in on your child s fun. If a child is doing arts and crafts, playing a sport, or watching a TV show, participate in the activities. Even when a parent is not physically able to do a sport, they can ask their child about it. They can also go to sporting events and talk about the activity. The main point is to stay connected to your child and their interests. In response to the social worker s presentation, various ... Each state can compare its statistical data to the standardized infection ratio (SIR), a summarized ratio of the culmination of national data; this is an excellent method to track the progress in the goal of reducing and eventually eradicating HAIs. The report for the state of Kentucky on HAIs in the state s acute care hospitals was based on information received from a total of 116 hospitals that provided data for this survey. Unfortunately, the incidence of reported HAIs associated with Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a type of laboratory identified hospital onset bloodstream infection, is extremely high. Kentucky s reported incidences in 2014 of patients infected with MRSA while being treated in acute care hospitals is 25% higher than the national baseline. This information is a red flag for the state s epidemiology experts and healthcare professionals, that infection control protocol in place should be reviewed and researched to determine what can be done, either on a hospital to hospital based level or a state wide level, to improve the efficiency of reducing or eliminating HAIs that are associated with MRSA infections. One area that the state s statistical data rates very well is in Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSIs). • 48. Covert Vs Overt Attention Every day we are faced with numerous visual inputs and our brain needs to filter and select the information of interest. This selection can be achieved either endogenously (top down, guided by behavioural goal) or exogenously (bottom up, guided by salient visual event) (Posner Cohen, 1980). Endogenous and exogenous shift of attention can be directed to the visual stimuli either accompanied with eye and/or head movement referred as overt attention or independently of any gaze movement referred as covert attention (Findlay Gilchrist, 2003). The relationship between covert and overt attention has been the subject of numerous studies in the past decades, and behavioural as well as neurophysiological data suggest that both are tightly coupled. One influential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spatial attention is assumed to arise from an activation of the brain map that transforms spatial information into movement representations (Rizzolatti Craighero, 1998). Thus, the shift of visual attention would rely on the programming of a saccadic eye movement, whether this movement is actually executed (overt attention) or not (covert attention). In the lab, one classical paradigm used to study the covert shift of spatial attention is the cueing paradigm, where participants are asked to fixate a central point while a predictive cue is briefly flashed to direct their attention towards a peripheral target (Posner, Snyder, Davidson, 1980). Classical results obtained with this paradigm reveal that the location of the cue modulates the visual perception of the spatial location even without making any eye movement. Indeed when the cue is valid, that is when it provides correct information on the location of the upcoming target participants perform better compared to conditions where the cue in invalid. ... The Discovery Of The Earth s Magnetic Field The Earth s magnetic field The discovery of the Earth s magnetic field Over 2000 years ago, the Chinese discovered that lodestone, a naturally magnetised iron ore, would align itself in a north south direction. Hundreds of years later, they discovered that their compasses didn t point true north and in fact that this position changed with time. The compass was first used for navigation in the 11th 12th century, only arriving in Europe towards the end of this period. Then, in 1600, William Gilbert (Figure 1.1) published De Magnete, Magnetisque Corporibus, et de Magno Magnete Tellue (On the Magnet and Magnetic Bodies, and on the Great Magnet the Earth). He concluded that the Earth itself was magnetic with a centre of iron, and this is why a compass would point north. Figure 1.1 William Gilbert (1544 1603) , author of De Magnete, the first printed book written by an academically trained scholar based almost entirely on actual observation and experiment . The structure of the Earth s Magnetic Field The Earth s magnetic field can in fact be closely approximated by a magnetic dipole at its centre, tilted by 11Лљ to the Earth s rotational axis, Figure 1.2. The south pole of this magnetic dipole actually points northwards such that the north pole on a compass will point towards northwards, and more precisely, to the Earth s magnetic north pole. It is this principle that separates the average murder from the psychotic sadists that believes in what he or she does. Charles Manson, leader of the Manson Family, believed in the apocalyptic war of Helter Skelter, the uprising of blacks and the mass genocide of whites (Whitehead). This is essentially Gods act of removing the sin within us humans while considering us to be righteous through Christ s sacrifice. As stated in Christ Our Salvation , Those who are righteous will live by faith(Larondelle, 10). This means that justification must exist in order to have people who live by faith and for these people to be saved and redeemed. Justification helps to show that we humans are in need of daily justification through faith in Christ (Abrams, 97).
