How Did Forensic Science Start
Did you ever hear how forensic science had gotten started? Have you ever heard of the foundations of
forensic science before? Do you know what the role is of a forensic technician and know of an
example of it? Did you ever hear about the future of forensic technology before? Did you ever hear
how forensic science had gotten started? Forensic science has been happening throughout human
history. Back when the Roman Empire was around, they had their own form of forensic science. It s
been around as long as there have been some type of law enforcement trying to figure out how
someone died. Over the years, the methods and the tools have evolved greatly. It s evolved from
asking people questions, to being able run DNA though different DATA bases to see if they can find a
match to the victim, or being able to find the criminal who had committed the crime. When it first
started out with forensic science, it was a lot of guessing and a lot of best educational guess to figure
out what weapon may have been used. Now, they can match fire arms to the crime and other weapon s
that may have been used. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to what forensic science means, it translates to science to law. The word forensic
comes from the world forensus, which translates to the word forum. This applies to conflict resolution.
An example of this is when somebody goes to court for a crime they feel has been committed. The
person that has had the biggest impact in forensic science was Hans Gross (1847 1915). It s not always
people that has helped shape forensic science, it has also been court cases that has helped shaped
forensic science. Some of the cases that have helped shaped forensic science are Falcone in 2005,
Ortmeier in 2006 and Saferstein in 2007. Those are just a few cases that have helped shape forensic

3. THE PROPOSED MODEL The proposed IDS model presents an entire structure for selecting the
best sub set of KDD cup 99 dataset which will proficiently characterize normal traffic and abnormal
traffic through which computationally capable IDS is built. Here, a Robust feature selection (RFS)
algorithm works by combining three filtering methods for fastening the training process. The main
intention of this approach is to use fuzziness to integrate filtering methods. The proposed Framework
of the IDS was given in figure 1. It states the procedure of feature selection method. In essence, it has
four steps 1) Pre processing 2) Applying Filter approach for three methods 3) Ensemble Feature
Selection 4) Classification through SVM. While the proposed method is generic and can be pertained
to any dataset, for testifying the proposed method on KDDCup99 dataset in IDS has been done.

The Philosophies Of The Philosopher Socrates

Socrates
This paper will examine, in two parts, the worldviews of the philosopher Socrates. The first part will
examine four of his worldviews using evidence from The Apology, The Crito, and The Phaedo, all
written by Plato and depicting dialogues from Socrates. The first section of the paper will also use
supplementary analysis from Socrates by George Rudebusch. The second section of this paper will be
a critique of Socrate s worldviews.
Part 1: Socrates Worldview
Knowledge
In the Apology, Socrates states ...that real wisdom is the property of the god, and this oracle is his way
of telling us that human wisdom has little or no value (Apology 23a). Upon hearing that the god at
Delphi had pronounced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates believed wisdom to be of the utmost importance, essentially saying that without it, the soul is
incomplete.
Condition
No one knows with regards to death whether it is not really the greatest blessing that can happen to a
man; but people dread it as though they were certain that it is the greatest evil (Apology 29a). In his
explanation of wisdom and knowledge, Socrates also reveals his worldview of the human condition.
Socrates states that those who fear death are foolish because there is no possible way to know what it
really holds. He believed that there were things far worse than death. Included among these were
ignorance and foolishness. This ties in with his worldview of knowledge as he went to great lengths to
seek out a person with more knowledge than himself, an act that defies ignorance according to his
definition. Socrates believed that an ignorant life was not a life worth living. When he revealed the
ignorance of the politicians, poets, and craftsmen, they were upset, further showing their ignorance in
that they were offended in Socrates attempting to impart some wisdom on them. He further states, I
only wish that ordinary people had an unlimited capacity for doing harm; that would mean that they
had an unlimited power for doing good, which would be a splendid thing. In fact they have neither.
They cannot make a man wise or foolish (Crito 44d). This further imparts Socrates belief that the

Essay On Concussion Crisis
Football s Concussion Crisis and The After Effects The hot topic of concussions in football has
attracted a considerable amount of unwanted attention in recent years. This problem is continuing to
grow at a rapid rate, while our society is oblivious that a problem even exists. Many of us in today s
day in age know someone who has played football at the high school, collegiate, or professional level.
The incidence of players who end up with concussions is astounding. It is interesting that someone

Celebrated Jumping Frog
Knute Rockne, a former football coach for the University of Notre Dame once said, Win or lose, do it
fairly. However, in Mark Twain s story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, the main
character, otherwise known as Smiley, does not live by this saying. The story of Smiley and his
celebrated jumping frog takes place in a gold mining camp, which is located in Calaveras County,
California, during the Gold Rush era. The dominant theme in The Celebrated Jumping Frog of
Calaveras County, is that trying to deceive someone can result in unexpected consequences. Several
literary devices, including characters, satire, and diction, are applied to the plot of the short story in
order to emphasize the primary theme.

The prominent choices of diction which appear on the first page of Twain s short story, some examples
include, lurking suspicion and he backed me into a corner and blockaded me with his chair. . The
diction helps foreshadow the deception that occurs later on in the story; furthermore, the choice of
diction suggests intelligence, which means that someone of higher intelligence is foreshadowed to try
and deceive someone of lower intelligence despite the fact there are consequences. The dialogue of
Smiley being accounted by Simon Wheezler, he ketched a frog one day and took him home and said
he cal klated to edercate him (Twain 3), contains diction that emphasizes the lack of a formal
education. By using diction that suggests lack of intelligence and education, Twain is able to use the
theme of deception ending with unexpected consequences to showcase that probability that people
with lower intelligence have a hard time learning of their mistakes, especially when deceived. The
final example of diction, well I don t see no p ints about that frog that s any better n any other frog,
(Twain 4), highlights another person with a lack of education, but this person has more intelligence or
at least more awareness than the people Smiley usually tricks, which will eventually make it harder for
Smiley to deceive him; thus, being unable to deceive him means

The Fairytale Of Cinderella By James Poniewozik
Each and every child grows up viewing Disney movies, wearing princess gowns, and buzz lightyear
suits. The parents of these children are the individuals purchasing these Disney costumes, toys, candy,
and other related items for their children. Our society today accepts Disney and their culture of
entertainment as a part of a child s childhood experience without second thought. Elements of the
fairytale of Cinderella has adapted over time to please the culture in which it is told; yet in today s
culture, adaptation to these elements is taken to where it has never been. In The Princess Paradox,
James Poniewozik says, You can have the girly dream of glass slippers and true love, these films say,
as well as the womanly ideal of self determination and independence and any contradictions between
them are no match for the movies magic (Poniewozik 324). Peggy Orenstein compliments Poniewozik
s article because she states, The first Princess items, released with no marketing plan, no focus groups,
no advertising, sold as if blessed by a fairy godmother (Orenstein 327). Poniewozik is trying to argue
that films have altered the story of Cinderella in the 21st century cinema realm due to the addition of
the concept of feminism, women s separation from men, and the traditional magic implemented within
them. Orenstein marries these articles together indirectly by pointing out that Disney legitimately had
no marketing plan, yet they continue to rake in money. The reason Disney

Circumcision Persuasive Speech
Title: Circumcision in baby boys
Name: Leya Saju
Plain Language Summary
What is circumcision? What are the benefits? What are the risks?
Circumcision is when the skin that surrounds the tip of the penis is removed. It is a very common
surgery in the United States. It is usually done in newborns, but can also be done in older men.
Families choose to do circumcision because of personal hygiene, faith, tradition etc. While other
families see it as unnecessary.
Circumcision makes it easier to wash the penis and keep the area clean. It also decreases the chance of
getting infections. Sometimes in men who are not circumcised, it may become difficult to pull the
foreskin back. This may cause that foreskin or the head of the penis to become inflamed. Also, cancer
of the penis is seen less in circumcised men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rarely, the foreskin does not heal properly or the cut may be made too short or too long. The
American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends circumcision because there are a lot more
benefits than risks, but the decision is entirely up to the parents.
How is it done? Does it hurt?
Circumcision is usually done within 10 days after birth at the hospital nursery. It takes about 10
minutes to do. The baby will lie on his back and the foreskin will be removed by attaching a Mogen or
Gomco clamp to the penis. Ointment and gauze are then used to wrap the penis.
An injection with anesthetics or a cream for pain is used first. To distract the infant, sometimes sugar
water is also used. Research also shows that there may be a difference in pain when a Mogen clamp is
used instead of Gomco. These clamps are common tools used to hold the foreskin away from the tip of
the penis so that your doctor can make a neat cut and reduce any harm to the head of the

Lifetime Bans Should Be Utilized in the NHL
For any professional athlete, there is a natural assumption of risk to one s physical well being. Players
are constantly honing their bodies in the weight room not just to become faster and stronger than their
competition, but also to protect against the injuries that can ruin a season (Barrabi). The National
Hockey League (NHL) was one of the last professional sports organizations to issue sanctions against
players who cause concussions and head injuries. Just in the past season alone, there have been a total
of 44 suspensions in the NHL (TSN.com). Many of these suspensions were assessed due to dangerous,
and sometimes intentional, behavior. To many people, these 44 suspensions occurring in the past
season may seem too excessive; compared to 2004, it is. However, the frequency of behavior resulting
in suspensions has increased over the past several years due to rule changes and a new disciplinary
council assessing said suspensions. Despite the change in rules, some still intentionally commit acts of
violence against opposing players. These players defense is that they are trying to preserve the
tradition and respect of the game by humbling new, arrogant players who unnecessarily show off or
target star players (Jones). Although preserving this tradition is expected and necessary due to the
violent nature of the game, many players let their tempers get out of control. Because of various
injuries, especially head injuries, league officials should take a tougher

BACKGROUND
I am proposing for a library to be put into the Exton campus of Delaware County Community College.
There is currently not a library at this location. In order to have the use of a campus library we must
go to the main campus of the college, which is approximately thirty to forty minutes from the Exton
location. There are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A library that is closer for students would promote good learning habits and study skills. Students may
not wait until the last minute to do their projects and papers because resources are more readily
available to them.
PROPOSED ENVIRONMENT
The proposed environment will consist of a fully functioning library that is open to students and
faculty free of charge. If an outside member of the community would like to use the library the school
could charge them a small membership fee. This will help to raise revenue for the college and the
library.
For the first few years the library may be small but as years pass the library can expand to have more
books, magazines, research materials, computers, etc. The library can also share with the main campus
library in order to expand their materials and capabilities. I think many students and teachers would
support the addition of a library to the campus.
When the library is first constructed it should have at least a thousand books, several magazine
subscriptions, and fifteen computers. Ten of the computers should be connected to the Internet and
have common programs that students would use to write research papers and create presentations. The
other five computers should be connected to research databases only such as Ebsco. There should also
be a ?quiet area? where students can study, do homework, research material, read, write papers, etc. A
?quiet area? would give

A Telephone Call Dorothy Parker Analysis
A Telephone Call by Dorothy Parker Dorothy Parker was born in 1893 at her parents summer home in
New Jersey. Unfortunately, her childhood was very rough. Her mother and her step mother died when
Parker was still a child. She attended a Catholic grammar school, but ended her formal education by
the time she was fourteen years of age. In her late teenage years another catastrophe hit, her uncle was
on the notorious Titanic ship that sunk and he did not make it. Parker s series of unfortunate events did
not finish, her father passed away a year later. Parker sold her first poem to Vanity Fair and her first
collection of poetry Enough Rope was published in 1926 and became a best seller. She later worker
for Vogue when she was twenty two years old. She wrote poems for newspapers and magazines while
she worked for Vogue, however she joined Vanity Fair to work as a drama critic later on. The same
year she became a drama critic, she married a stockbroker which lasted about ten years (Poets.org).
Her marriage, however, was quite turbulent and rocky. As an adult, Parker suffered severe depression
and alcoholism. These issues led her to several suicide attempts that she thankfully survived. After her
failed first marriage, she married an actor writer in 1934. This marriage lasted for thirteen years before
both sides decided to divorce, but they remarried three years later. As if Parker had enough tragedies
in her life, her husband died of an overdose and Parker died at the ripe

Morte D Arthur Research Paper
Morte d Arthur, published in 1485, is a story written by Sir Thomas Mallory. In essence, Morte d
Arthur is tells the story of King Arthur and his Knights at the Round Table. Arthur, who is son of King
Uther Pendragon but was raised by another family, takes his rightful place as king when, as a boy, he
is able to pull the sword called Excalibur from the stone. In order to relate this story to todays time,
Arthur s childhood is the center of attention. After Arthur was born, he was given away to other people
to be raised, not by his biological parents. Arthur s being raised by different his non biological parents
is similar to adoption in real life, and how it affected him and how it effects children in real life, will
be the main focus. Another connection between the story and real life is that the general community

Essay Follow the River
Follow the River Follow The River by James Alexander Thom is about Mary Ingles gruesome but yet
courageous tale of her remarkable 1,000 mile journey home after she had escaped form the captivity
of the Shawnee Indians. Through Mary Ingles hard work and determination she proved that all
obstacles big and small can be overcome.
The book started out with a bloody massacre at Mary Ingles Virginia settlement in 1755. Mary Ingles
was pregnant with her third child and twenty four years of age when the Shawnee Indians came and
kidnapped her, her two sons, her sister in law, and her neighbor. The journey to the Shawnee village

with hardly nothing to eat since everything was barren because of the winter, overall the two women
walked 1,000 miles. Finally Mary was able to find her husband, but after thirteen years she was able to
ransom for only one of her sons back and her sister in law, the other two children were kept by the
Shawnee.
Follow the River had a lot of dialogue leaving the reader with the feeling that they were battling the
Virginia wilderness right along with Mary Ingles. James Alexander Thom used vivid description on
everything that he wrote, he painted the picture for the reader with a myriad of words, and he left no
leaf undescribed in the Virginia wilderness. The only thing that seemed confusing about this book is
that the reader can never figure out where Mary Ingles is , it would help a lot if a map was placed
somewhere in the book showing the trail of Mary and her companion.
James Alexander Thom did seem a little bias in his book. He would call The Shawnee Indians
heathens, he always just looked at the English point of view and never the Indians point of view,
because at this time the reader should be informed that the Indians are being forced to be moved from
place to place by the white man, but I don t believe that the authors intent was to give the Shawnee
Indians a bad name he just wanted to get the point across that some young pioneer

Reflection For Classroom Learning
To learn this week s material, answer the discussion post, program the programming assignment, and
get a good grade on the self quiz, I studied the learning material for almost 6 hours a day. I find if fun
to sit down with the learning material, which was chapters one and two, and take notes during all my
free time.
My reactions to the learning material chapters one and two are so much information, that I didn t have
enough time to read the optional learning material, or watch the optional video lectures. Chapters one
and two are more than 100 pages of reading material; however, I did have time to read the NetBeans
tutorials.
I m still waiting for feedback to my discussion posts. I may have gotten my discussion post done early.
There were only 3 or four other discussion posts posted previous to me entering in my discussion
response in the discussion forum. However, I gave these three other students responses posts to their
discussion posts, where I gave good grades for using learning material vocabulary and learning
material insight to what the definitions of four operators are( ++ , != , , and %= ).
I m a little dis heartened right now. The reason for my discouragement is my computer may have a
glitch. Certain mathematical operations are fouled up by some malicious code, and when I multiply
variables by 10 (in Netbeans and other IDEs), I get erroneous decimal places added onto my figures.
This week, I learned how to setup NetBeans, how to discern basic fundemental programming blocks
of java, how to setup java variables, how to control the flow of execution with branches and loops,
how to test for conditions with operators, how to build classes, how to use installed classes like String
and Math, how to use installed subroutines with string and Math, what the size of primitive data types
are(short, int, long, float, double, char, and ), how to use enums, etc. ...almost too much to list in one
paragraph, here.
What causes me to wonder is the built in methods of the String function, the built in methods of the
Math library, and string formatting options. I want to make a website out of these built in classes and
their subroutines. If I mastered these classes and subroutines, I would be a better

Why Is Animal Cruelty Wrong
Animal cruelty is a global wide issue that has been happening for many, many years. It happens in all
parts of the world, and happens to several different species of animals. From dogs, to cats, to cows and
chickens, each and everyday animal abuse happens. Animal abuse is simply wrong, and there is no
reason for any person anywhere, for any reason to hurt an innocent creature, no matter what. However,
many people who are involved with animal abuse refuse to admit to being apart of it, and will do
everything in their power to deny any type of actions.
An attributing topic to the controversy of animal cruelty is the animal testing done on animals by large
companies. Woman and men who enjoy using cosmetics consume these products by spending a large

Throughout time, man has always questioned science. Man has been curious about life, space, our

Everyday there are new developments being researched. Along with these developments come the
people s opinion. Many people question the positive outcomes and negative outcomes of procedures
such as gene manipulation, cloning, in vitro fertilization and fetal tissue implants. To this day,
scientists are researching and developing ways to

when couples receive bad news, they can cure the disorder by gene therapy, thus, abortion will no

Genetic screening allows parents to contribute more to the health of their child by knowing the
complications beforehand.
Not only can the fetus be cured of disorders, but it also decrease the probabilities of the offspring
obtaining such diseases. For instance, if a woman is bearing a boy of a father with the history of
prostate cancer, then the baby will probably develop that cancer. But with the cell suicide gene
inserted to the fetus, it will make his prostate cells self destruct. He will not die of the cancer and

Compare The Very Old Man With Enormous Wings And Ode To A...
Doris Lessing in the fifth child, Gabriel Garcia Marquez in The very old man with enormous wings
and John R Keats in Ode to a nightingale use examples of unrequited love, and symbols of positive
and negative experiences to show how lack of affection can drive a person to either find closure or to
sink them into depression depending on their certain experiences. All three of the authors have found
different ways to show their readers that even though there is a different ending to each story that there
is still hope to fix unrequited love.
The relationship between Ben and his mother in the fifth child was one of the most different of stories
I have personally read. Ben is the character that changes the entire family s perspective on life and
changed them as a family as well. One of the quotes found in the book are Ben, do you remember that
place you went to in the van? Solidifying the fact that Ben was neglected for the longest time because
he was extremely different from all the other children in the perfect family, but his mother eventually
had to take control of the situation as she realizes that she neglected her own child without even trying
to because he was different, but he was not different enough to be kept in the institution. As Harriet
realizes she must get him out of an insane asylum since he does not actually belong there but back at
home with her and the family so that she could take care of him as she would any of her other
children. But somewhere after

Freedom Of Religion And The American Civil Liberties Union
Freedom of religion has been a right guaranteed to individuals in society. However, it is ultimately just
an idea put in place that is disregarded as something insignificant. The workplaces of many people
choose to deny employees the right to express their religion freely, for fear it may leave a bad image
for the company. It is apparent that freedom of religion is not a strong right as many people may have
originally thought it was. The limits of this right have been tested for decades and continue to be an
issue for people today. Freedom of religion may go on to exist as a right in society, but when
investigating deeper into this privilege, it is evident that it is merely an idea taken for granted. The
First Amendment to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another item to take into consideration when talking about freedom of religion is the Establishment
Clause. This clause does not allow for any portion of the government to choose to acknowledge a
particular religion. As a result, the population is scrutinized for acknowledging religions practiced
throughout the world. The government may not support a specific religion, but ultimately owes
individuals the respect they deserve, even if they do associate with a particular belief. This happens in
order to make religious freedom only a minor idea instead of the greater meaning of it as a right.
Many schools and other religious organizations are ultimately not supported by the government, in
order to maintain the separation of government agencies and religious doctrine (Your). Another
important part of the First Amendment, is the recognition of the Free Exercise Clause. This gives
individuals the right to select whether or not they want to be involved with a religion of their choice.
This clause also gives security to those who want to be able to express their religion, without fear of
harsh punishments inflicted by others. Unfortunately, many people do not express a specific religion
due to the view society has. Since many people see the freedom of religion as only an idea, there is not
much emphasis placed on protecting a right that should be the most

Mordred s Love
Mordred didn t want to love him. No, he wanted to hate the bright young king with the warm smile
and compassionate ways. He wanted to loathe him, for it would be far easier to allow destiny to carry
him to its sinister end if he felt no affection for the man legend claimed he was destined to kill. He
tried to find some cause for animosity. Arthur had persecuted his kind... perhaps not as much as his
father had, but he had also forced people with magic to live in secrecy and fear. He hadn t lifted the
decrees that made sorcery an unforgivable offense, regardless of whether or not the culprit had sought
to cause any harm through his actions. That should be enough... shouldn t it? And yet another voice, a

The Problems of Glaciers Melting Essay
Our planet has two glaciers of continental size, one being present on Antarctica and the other on
Greenland. Observations made by scientists over the last thirty five years all agree upon the notion of
shrinking, and or retreating of the ice sheets. The melting of ice sheets has powerful implications for
the millions of people who depend on glacial melt for drinking water and the millions of people who
will be displaced by the sea level rise occurring as a direct result of the melting. The observations of
ice melting also show that the rate at which the ice is melting is accelerating. Mountain glaciers
around the world are also on the retreat. Some instances of particular mountain glaciers may show
expansion, but studies done by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A third method known as satellite gravimetry measures changes in Earth s gravity field by deducing
satellite data and determining changes in ice mass.
When considering the retreat of the Greenland and the Antarctic ice sheets it is important to
understand how global warming is affecting the total mass and volume of the ice sheets. Global
warming, put simply is affecting ice sheets in two main ways. Warmer temperatures cause higher
levels of precipitation, which means more snowfall. On the contrary, warming temperatures cause ice
sheets to thin and melt. Therefore we must deduce which has the greater effect. A variety of
techniques, some which have been mentioned earlier have been employed over the years to measure
Greenland and Antarctica s mass balances. Various independent measurements have all agree upon a
clear long term trend showing a decline in ice mass. Confirmation has been acquired by the Gravity
Recovery and Climate Experiment, which measured shifts in Earth s gravity field. In the 1960s
Greenland was losing 100 gigatonnes of ice per year, this rate slowed during the 1970s and 1980s in
near mass balance. By 1996 the rate of ice mass loss had increased to 97 gigatonnes per year. As of
2007 a rapid increase of ice loss occurred, measured at 267 gigatonnes per year. In the larger scheme
of things we see how the amount of precipitation vs. the amount of melting interact with each other.
Earlier research suggested that the ice sheets

Parenting Styles In Psychology
Psychology is the science of the mind and behavior of living beings. This area of study originally
began in December 1879 by a German college professor named Wilhelm Wundt, but it is still a widely
researched topic today. Over the past few centuries, psychologists have dedicated their lives to
researching how the mind and actions of others correlate. Through their research, they have
discovered concepts such as sensation and perception, learning, memory, thinking, motivation and
emotions, health, and personalities. These discoveries have contributed greatly to society to help
explain why some people behave differently than others. Scientists have also learned that people are
not born knowing everything, but rather they develop over their lifespan. Factors such as parenting
styles, psychological disorders, genetics, environments, and personality components are present in the
development of people, including myself. These elements affect the outcome of someone s mental and
physical decisions. Parenting styles are one of the most impactful factors of a person s development in
life. The three major parenting styles are authoritarian, permissive, and authoritative. Authoritarian
parents forceful and they use many rules and expect complete respect out of their children. Permissive
parents are very relaxed in their requests and punishments for their children. Thirdly, authoritative
parents are demanding and hold expectations, but they also encourage their children to have open

Abstract: I have selected the following paper, Streptococcus Pneumoniae Invades Erythrocytes and
Utilizes them to Evade Human Innate Immunity, to present and review for an assignment.
Streptococcus Pneumoniae is the cause of pneumonia and sepsis. Erythrocytes, which are found in
blood, contain nutrients that factor into bacterial growth. Yamaguchi et al studied the interactions
between S. pneumoniae and erythrocytes. The researchers found that the Iron ion present in human
erythrocytes helped the growth of a sepsis pathogen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While all of this information has been gathered, the behavior of S. pneumoniae in blood remains
poorly understood. Erythrocytes, making up 40 50% of blood volume (Yamaguchi et al 2013), are a
key component for cellular respiration. Erythrocytes contain abundant nutrients like iron which is
required for life in nearly all forms. In this study, the researchers provide evidence that iron in red
blood cells partially inhibit pneumococcal growth and that S. pneumoniae has the ability to invade
human erythrocytes, supporting their hypothesis. By using a neutrophile bactericidal assay, the
researchers were also able to show that the survival rate for S. Pneumoniae in cultures with
erythrocytes increased 3x. The results also display that the pathogen s use of erythrocyte components
enables it to evades the immune system of the host.
Materials and Methods: As describes in Yamaguchi et al, the researchers purchased S. pneumoniae
strain D39 from the National Collection of Type Cultures. S. pneumoniae strain R6, which is an
unencapsulated derivative D39, was provided by Dr. Shin ichi Yokota. The primers used are given.
Primers are short sequences of DNA or RNA that is used as a starting point for transcription in DNA
synthesis. The PCR technique is used in biology labs to create a large amount of copies of a piece of
cut DNA, specifically DNA primers in this experiment(McEntee 8) S.pneumoniae and S. aureus were

Volcanic and Seismic Events Are Major Pieces of Evidence...
Volcanic and Seismic events are major pieces of evidence towards proving that plate tectonics theory
is valid (40 marks) The theory of plate tectonics states that the Earth s lithosphere (top layer of the
Earth s crust) is split up into rigid sections called plates that are moving relative to one another as they
move on top of the underlying semi molten mantle. These plates are either continental, The North
American Plate, or oceanic, The Nazca Plate. Tectonic plates are powered by convection currents,
which is the circular movement of magma within the mantle. These currents are powered by the core,
which heats the magma, causing it to rise, cool and fall back down. This circular motion causes the
plates, which float on the mantle, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earthquakes can be created on any of the plate boundaries. Earthquakes occur when tension is
released from inside the crust. Plates do not always move smoothly alongside each other and
sometimes get stuck. When this happens pressure builds up. When this pressure is eventually released,
an earthquake tends to occur. The point inside the crust where the pressure is released is called the
focus. The point on the Earth s surface above the focus is called the epicentre. Earthquake energy is
released in seismic waves. These waves spread out from the focus. The waves are felt most strongly at
the epicentre, becoming less strong as they travel further away. The most severe damage caused by an
earthquake will happen close to the epicentre. But there are some anomalies as there are earthquakes
which don t take place on a plate boundary and it s the same with volcanoes. An example of this is
Hawaii. Hawaii is a volcanic island which is found in the middle of a tectonic plate. Hawaii is an
example of a hotspot. The places known as hotspots are volcanic regions thought to be fed by
underlying mantle that is anomalously hot compared with the mantle elsewhere. They may be on, near
to, or far from tectonic plate boundaries. There are two hypotheses to explain them. One suggests that
they are due to hot mantle plumes that rise from the core mantle boundary. The other hypothesis
postulates that it is not high

Lawrence gives a visual of the war from all sides, from the earliest days of French colonization to the

economic aid to the Diem regime, it was doomed due to its internal corruption. The same argument is
used to evaluate U.S. military tactics: Successes on the battlefield petered out due to a fundamental
flaw in strategic assumptions. Revisionists such as Mark Moyar will surely disagree, but Lawrence
does represent the majority opinion among U.S. historians at the moment.
His narrative begins well before American forces set foot in Vietnam, delving into French colonialism
s contribution to the 1945 Vietnamese revolution, and revealing how the Cold War concerns of the
1950s led the United States to back the French. The heart of the book covers the American war,
ranging from the overthrow of Ngo Dinh Diem and the impact of the Tet Offensive to Nixon s
expansion of the war into Cambodia and Laos, and the final peace agreement of 1973. Finally,
Lawrence examines the aftermath of the war, from the momentous liberalization Doi Moi in Vietnam
to the enduring legacy of this infamous war in American books, films, and political debate.

Population Dynamics and Its Effects on Climate Change Policy
Population dynamics and its effects of climate change policy Population growth and its effects on
climate change have been hotly debated in recent years by scientists and politicians alike. The Fourth
Assessment Report of the IPCC has sparked great interest and concern over climate change and how it
affects countries differently. The concept of environmental justice has focused on climate change s
unbalanced effects on developing countries, whose populations are more vulnerable to climate change.
With rapidly growing populations and inadequate resources and technologies, developing countries
have struggled to develop their economy sustainability. The relationship between population and
climate change is grossly oversimplified by the idea that as population increase so does its effect on
climate change. Realistically, population and climate change affect each other through economic
trends, development patterns, society, institutions and the government. Population dynamics is not
simply the number of people in a given space. Rather, it is the distribution and continuously changing
demographics that make population dynamics a complex but important factor in climate change
policy. In recent climate change and environmental protection discussions, developed countries have
strongly suggested or even imposed environmental policies upon developing countries. This has
caused tension and misunderstandings on both sides as developing countries strive for the economic
success of their

Duality Between Nature and Society in The Tempest
One of the essential themes of The Tempest is the duality between nature and society. This is made
evident through the character of Caliban: the disfigured fish like creature that inhabits the island upon
which the play takes place. Caliban lacks civility because he was born on the island deprived of any
social or spiritual morality other than nature and instinct. He is literally man untamed. Caliban is not
monstrous simply for the sake of being frightening; his ghastly appearance is intended to literally
depict the essential differences between civilization and natural instinct.

These are present because life is easier with rules like this. Human beings no longer had to worry
about being killed or being looted as much as long as they were within the confines of a civilization.
People started to be able to take up specialized professions and be able to count on other people to
perform tasks such as carpentry, cooking, etc. Governments were formed to organize the people and
efficiently run a civilization. Now the individual was not responsible for every aspect of survival but
contributed to the overall survival of a civilization. From this economies were born either through
trade or currency. However, the cornerstones of human civilizations (money and power) have lead to a
whole new form of evil and brutality that was never present in nature. Its almost of a blind perversion
of human nature. Through bettering our situation, we have corrupted ourselves to an extent (greed).
Civilization can produce more savage and evil beings than nature. While Caliban is perceived as being
evil and monstrous, he really is not. He just does not know any better. However, Antonio is much
more malicious than Caliban because he knows what he has done is evil This goes back to the concept
of nature vs. society.

Caliban could have simply been a man raised in nature,

At this level, I am told that four specific beacons characterise the ideal of open and distance education
an ideal that is of course not always attained when resources are limited. These are:
good learning materials,
individual academic and professional support to each student,
effective administration and logistics, and
teaching rooted in research.
It follows then that these principles call for research in and the use of technology, the modes of
delivery, issues in student learning, and pedagogy in relation to the subject areas. In their turn, these
involve the following issues amongst many others.
The capability for research in open, distance and adult learning needs to be enhanced. But distance
education is no longer an island unto itself, so this research capability has to draw from and become
integrated with the community s overall research capabilities, especially in educational and social
research.
A balance must be sought between basic research (the best media mix for instruction, learner
characteristics and teaching strategies, interactive learning) and applied research (instructional design,
supported individualised learning through multimedia).
Probing into the globalisation of education and its effect on local or cultural contexts, the quality of
instruction through web based instruction.
The issue of quality control in general.

Mexican American Culture Analysis
Mona and I had an interesting talk about how her family mixed the American and Italian cultures
together while they were raising her. She told me that many of the traditions and rituals to
commemorate a death in Italy are not practiced in the United States. This is mainly due to the villages
in Italy being so small, allowing the people to be more familiar with each other. A funeral in Italy
depends a great deal on the family and their financial position in the village. The more money, the
more prestigious and elaborate the event would be. Mona said that the deceased is kept in a casket at
the family home, and that people come to the house to remember the dead. The family decorates the
door of their home indicating that a death has occurred, and they also put a table outside, in front of
the house, with pictures of the deceased on it. They also post notices all over town telling that a death
has occurred, and about the life of the deceased. These things are the families way of letting the
village knows that someone has died. After everyone has visited the deceased they all go to the church
where a service is held, including a full mass. After the service the pall bearers carry the casket from

Abuse Of Drug Abuse
Drug addiction within the healthcare has become a very important issue. Drug addicted Doctors
Health Care Professionals (2015) studied that doctors and other health care workers are addicted to
drugs in the same proportion as the general population (para, 1). Anesthesiologists, specifically,
continuously shows an increase rate of drug misuse. There are many factors that contribute to the
abuse of drugs to include: access to drugs, high stress environment, control oriented personality. The
main drugs that are being abused are fentanyl, sufentanil, merperidine, and morphine (substance abuse
among anesthesiologists, 2012). The abuse of drugs by medical professionals causes many patient
related problems. The burden of this issue is that diseases may be spreaded. The way physicians get by
with using drugs is they inject the patient first, then themselves, and then the patient again. In
combination to the dilemma of infection, there is the issue of patients not getting all the drugs they
require. When drugs are shared between a medical professional and a patient, it is known as drug
diversion, which signifies that the patient who genuinely needs the sedative or anodyne, or both is not

Computer technology evolves rapidly. There is a distinct advancement year to year. Computers handle
more processing power, use less energy, and depreciate like rocks falling off Pike s Peak. Leasing
helps prevent obsolescence. It offers an opportunity to upgrade equipment for a fraction of the cost of

Throughout history, the concept of humanism has changed and in a way evolved over the years. Many
believe that humanism began with the early Greek civilizations, but there are many instances of non
Greek expressions of humanism. From Hammurabi s Code in Mesopotamia, to the Romans art and
sculptures, and lastly the way the Egyptians viewed their Pharaoh s as leaders with supreme
importance.
Humanism is a term that has become synonymous with human and natural rights. One of the earliest
expressions of human rights is Hammurabi s Code of Laws. Hammurabi s laws were often recognized
because of the harsh punishments that would occur if you broke a certain rules. If a man put out the
eye of another man, his eye shall be put out. (*) In other words an eye for an eye has to be one of the
most notorious laws that s written in Hammurabi s Code. But, one of the most frequent of penalties of
the various 282 laws was death (@). Even though to many people these laws would be considered
extremely harsh, these laws became a model for future law systems. These laws set an example that
for every improper action there would be a proper punishment that would follow. But, the main
problem with these laws was that they were very vague and don t consider other possibilities such as
religion.
There are many different ways that humanism could be expressed. Specifically the Romans loved to
express humanism through their numerous sculptures

Personal Research Essay
When I saw the light Immediately, when I turned sixteen I woke up in the morning and saw a pair of
shinny silver keys sitting on my desk. I jumped up with excitement and rushed out the door wearing
only my boxers, with the keys dangling in my hand. There it was: my brand new GMC Envoy, dark
hunter green with a wax that could blind you. I stared at the car with excitement and admiration; it
was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, and it was mine. I took it for a test drive around the
block and opened it up on the highway only three blocks from my house. It had a V8 under the hood,
black leather seats, a Bose sound system and enough horsepower to tow anything I desired. After my
first test drive around the neighborhood, I picked up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The car was completely compressed so we weren t able to move on our own free will. The police had
to shut down all four lanes of the causeway. Barricades were put up on both ends and no one was
allowed near my car besides authorized personnel. While the fireman sawed off every door of my
Envoy, three ambulances awaited us. Brandon on the other hand was in such bad condition that he had
a fifty percent chance of living. I looked back at him and his neck was snapped forward and his mouth
dripped in blood his face looked completely lifeless. His face was turning blue from suffocating from
the seat belt that entangled his neck. They immediately sent Brandon on his way to the hospital on a
Helicopter. You could hear the propellers of the helicopter wailing over everything else that was going
on, even the sawing of the doors. One by one each of us were put onto a stretcher. Everyone soaked in
blood not saying a word to one another and in a state that none of us were able to move. All I could
hear were the moans of pain from my friends and the horns in the distance from the impatient
onlookers. I remember lying there while lights were flashing all around me and the ambulance crew
were shinning a light in my eye just to keep me conscious. Craig, Scott, and I where all sent to
Hillsborough Community Hospital in separate ambulances. With sirens blaring and lights reflecting
off cars as we passed at amazing speeds, I just stared at the ceiling

Artificial Selection Research Paper
Evolution is a real thing that happened and is still happening today, there is so much evidence to prove
it. We have the fossil record, we know how natural selection works and how and why it happens, and
we know how artificial selection works and that we use it all of the time today. There is just too much
evidence to call evolution just a theory.
The fossil record is the history of life, as documented by fossils. The fossil record can show us so
many things, from the history of how homosapiens evolved into what were are today to how whales
were once furry, four legged land animals. The fact that we share roughly 50 percent of our DNA with
a banana is pretty astounding, but if you were to follow our family tree back far enough, you would
find that every single one of us, human or not, share a common ancestor. Yes, it is pretty hard to
believe but it makes sense if you really think about it. If we have 98% of the same genes as
chimpanzees, 80% of similar genes as cows, and 60% of similar genes as a fruit ... Show more content

Have you ever wondered how we got different types of dogs or cats? Artificial selection! Around
27,000 40,000 years ago the hunter gatherers began to tame wolves to have as hunting companions.
The people would eventually begin to breed their wolves so that they would have certain traits like
hair length, color, size, sharpness of teeth, tail length, and just about everything in between. When
people realized that they could control how animals would look, they started experimenting to see
what all they could make. This is how artificial selection works. Humans discover that they can
change an animal s characteristics, they discover traits that make the animals more pleasing to people
(desired traits), and they use these traits to make animals that are best suited for whatever people want
and/or need them

The Folk Through Three Decades
This essay, by Sija Tsai, demonstrates in a historical chronology how the WFF (Winnipeg Folk
Festival) changed its suggested definition of the folk through three decades. She explored this topic by
exploring media coverage and administrator beliefs on the subject of the folklore presence at these
festivals.
The festival was inaugurated in 1974 and was originally designated to celebrate Winnipeg s centenary.
However, with its success, the festival because an annual celebration of folk. At its beginnings, the
WFF featured mostly Anglo North American and Irish folk singers. the musical acts would feature
performances (often vocal) of traditional material (often ballads) and original material (often highly
politicized) by mostly young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome of the pluralization of the WFF performances had mixed reviews. Some participants
thought that the festival was betraying their folk value due to the implementation of more popular and
world artist and others argued that it was a good change and that it supported a diversity acceptance
narrative. The pluralization of performances in the WFF s continued through the 1980 s and 1990 s.
During the 1990 s there was an apparent fusion of traditional and popular idioms which further blurred
the lines between its suggested binary. During the early 2000 there were questions addressing the
political issues of the program such as the apparent absence of aboriginal performances.
In conclusion, the change in performance seen in the last three decades of the WFF shows that the idea
of the folk is tangible and is subject to change. One of the principle reason that its definition changes
is because of the underlying idea that folk music is music which features exoticism from the normal
repertoire which constitutes a Canadian identity. Therefore, while in the 1970, the English ballads
were considered different, as the performance frequency of the English ballads were growing, its
integration into the Canadian sound/music identity was being solidified. Hence, the three decades of
folk festival shows that this continuous search for the exotic and fusion is due in part of a

Use Of Wormwood In C. S. Lewis The Screwtape Letters
The Screwtape Letters
In The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, there contains a character named Wormwood. One might
wonder what the name Wormwood means as well as where the name even comes from. The Greeks
actually called wormwood absinthion which derives in its meaning to something that cannot be drunk
(bibledictionary.org). The name wormwood is actually in the Bible. Wormwood is mentioned in
Revelation 8:10 11, Proverbs 5:3 5, and Lamentations 3:19. Revelation 8:10 11 says, The third angel
sounded his trumpet, and a great star blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and
on the springs of water the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and
many people died from the waters that had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Bible, wormwood is used when talking about destruction or bitterness. By definition,
wormwood is a bitter plant. In The Screwtape Letters, Wormwood is supposed to get a human to sin
(study.com). Coincidentally, the plant wormwood causes hallucinations and even causes lust
(study.com). The author of Lamentations was in deep distress. In verse eighteen it says, So I say, My
splendor is gone and all that I hoped is in the Lord. The writer was calling out to God as he recounted
his suffering. To relate his bitterness to something, he uses the comparisons of gall and wormwood.
This was a powerful comparison because of the of the pungency of the two. It is possible that C.S.
Lewis chose the name wormwood for this character because of its bitter effects upon a person. The
wormwood plant can make a person feel one way, and so deceives them into believing that the way
they feel under its influence is enjoyable. However, the wormwood plant causes destruction to both
the mind and the body. In the same way, Wormwood would deceive a person into thinking that sinning
is enjoyable and has lasting benefits. In reality, sin leads to death. Proverbs 14:12 says, There is a way
that seems right to man, but in the end it leads to death. This means that some decisions may seem
totally acceptable and justifiable by man s standards, but in the end these same decisions lead to

Kelly Mcgonigal s How To Make Stress Your Friend
1.) Summary: Kelly McGonigal who is a health psychologist gives a thought provoking lecture called
How to Make Stress Your Friend at an official TED conference in June 2013. During the first part of
the presentation, Ms. McGonigal confesses to the crowd that she been teaching about stress
completely wrong, Basically, I ve turned stress into the enemy. But I have changed my mind about
stress... Ms. McGonigal emphasizes the point that people who view stress as not harmful (not their
enemy), were less likely to die to people who view stress as their enemy; therefore, when people
change their mind about stress, they can change their body response to stress to make them healthier.
As the presentation gets further along, Kelly McGonigal states how oxytocin plays a huge role in
controlling stress. This neuro hormone, which is released during stress, motivates you to seek support,
which is the reason why stress makes you social. At the same time, oxytocin acts ... Show more

If a large majority of individuals view stress as their enemy, this can severely take a toll on their health
throughout their lifetime, and even cause their life to be shortened prematurely. As the lecture
illustrates, 43 percent of people who believe stress as harmful had an increased risk of dying. An
obstacle or barrier that might hinder this improvement would be human nature, because it s easy for
human to get stressed and be clouded with thoughts to be able to solve the issue of handling stress. On
the other hand, to solve the obstacles the society needs to be educated on how to make stress their
friend. Also, introducing mechanism within their life to reduce stress, and urge others to see stress as a
positive thing rather than a negative. Thus causing society to live a healthier physical and mental

Stereotypes Of Private School Students
I first became a private schooler when I attended pre school at age 4 and maintained this group until
my senior year of high school. Throughout my twelve plus years of a private education, I have seen
and heard nearly every stereotype, both complimentary and derogatory, accurate and erroneous, as
well as, prejudicial and supportive. Private schoolers are typified by false stereotypes just as any other
minority group is. For example, private school students are expected, by society as a whole, to be
successful and intelligent by default. Yet, there are some stereotypes that hold true, such as the
majority of private school students hold academic achievement as paramount alongside respect and
courteousness to others. Private school students are generally students in a family with a high
socioeconomic status and parents with a college education or higher. At large, society tends to typify
private school students as conceited, haughty, and arrogant. While this is true for some private school
students, it does not describe the majority of students of these students in an accurate light. I was
placed in the private school environment by my parents at age 4, and by my own personal decision, I
decided to continue until university. This decision was made in order to raise me in a safer and more
controlled setting, and personally, to remove as many negative influences as possible.
Due to the frequent discussion of superiority between the two schooling methods, much research has

When the Watched Becomes the Watcher In the aftermath of September Eleventh, Americans
developed extreme prejudice towards people with Muslim beliefs. In Watched by Marina Budhos, we
see this discrimination towards the Muslim population, including the main character Naeem. Naeem
feels as if everyone looks at him with determination to prove him guilty with whatever crime possible.
He feels like he is being watched by the police and even his neighbors, putting him in the middle of
complete chaos. Everyone has traditions and customs that reflect their cultural background. In Naeem

I can hardly breathe now. My teeth hurt. This is a test, only this time, I m not confused. I know exactly
what he s asking of me. (Budhos 44). In this section of the book, Naeem is being asked to do a very
risky thing. He is being asked to become a watcher, a mosque crawler.(Budhos 45). This is evident of
others judging Naeem for his culture, because in this sense these policemen are taking advantage of
the fact that Naeem comes from a poor family and is need of money. Here Naeem makes a decision
that affects the entire novel. They went back to Bangladesh, what with all the trouble after 9/11.
(Budhos 104). Having the novel take place in this point and time creates this atmosphere of hatred and
fear towards muslims. This makes Naeem become a watcher because without this detail in the setting,
Muslims would not have become a target and Naeem would not have this tedious and dangerous job.
About a thousand a month. (Budhos 121). Naeem was chosen to do a job because of his cultural
background. He had little money, was in a lot of trouble, and had ways of getting into what the police
needed to know more about. The police took advantage of his needs, which would not have happened

Clinton Impeachment
In 1999, for the second time in American history, the President of the United States was impeached.
For those who don t know, impeachment means to bring a government official to trial over accusations
of illegal or shameful activity. President William Jefferson Clinton, more commonly known as Bill
Clinton, took office in 1992 as a leader who had promised to bring a more honest and better
government to the American people. This Democratic politician would have his two terms in office
defined by self inflicted shameful events. Clinton s affair with Monica Lewinsky would go down as
one of the most talked about scandals known to man.
Monica Lewinsky, at the age of 21, began an internship at the White House, in July of 1995. After just

The two articles Clinton was found guilty for were lying under oath to a grand jury and obstructing
justice. At the beginning of 1999 the trial began. The New York Times released an article that said,
From the start of the trial on January 7, the Senate tried assiduously to avoid the partisan bitterness of
the House (Mitchell paragraph 34). The trial swung in favor of Clinton, and on February 12, 1999, the
verdict was read, with President Clinton found not guilty of the two articles he was tried for.
As President Clinton s second term came to an end his time in office would be seen as one of the most
disgraceful and embarrassing presidencies in American history. For only the second time in
presidential history the United States of America had impeached their president, and for the first time
in history the president went to court for sexual allegations. At the end of the trial Clinton had only
one thing to say, I am profoundly

Essay Slaves will be Slaves
Petronius Arbiter, in Trimalchio s Dinner Party, the third chapter of his book Satyricon, mocks the
nature of slaves. He was a top official in Rome, namely the quot;Judge of Taste quot; in Nero s court
(129). Regardless of the responsibilities he had, he was an aristocrat. The history of Rome was written
from an aristocratic perspective because they were the ones who had the money, ambition and free
time to document history. Petronius believed that slaves are low class, and that a slave that has been
set free, id est a freedmen, is still a slave at heart, ergo worthless. Not with all the money in the world
could he develop the taste of the upper class. In ancient and modern times alike, money cannot buy a
good personality or social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is a social outcast in Roman culture because he was sodomized, however he rationalizes that
quot;it s okay if your master makes you do it quot; (146). He uses language that a blacksmith might
use (23). His wife was a prostitute before he bought her freedom. For the cultured Roman, it would be
repulsive to even take bread from her hand, let alone marry her (26).
Some very sublime, perhaps debatable evidence of the thesis is presented by Petronius using a
metaphor to express his view that a slave will always be a slave. If a slave is freed, he s still the same
person, a low life. Petronius writes a scene where a boar wearing the hat of a freedman is brought into
the dining room. It was supposed to be the dinner for the previous night but they quot;set him free
quot; (29). However, a free boar is still a boar, and now he is dinner. The hat changes nothing.
Petronius asserts his personal belief that slaves will be slaves no matter what changes on the outside,
they will always be slaves on the inside.
From the viewpoint of the aristocracy, merchants were generally considered to be of a very low class.
Trimalchio, which ironically means quot;prince quot; in Hebrew (18), gained his freedom because he
was an accountant and the sexual servant to both the master and the mistress of the household. He
inherited money and freedom when his master died. He amassed great wealth by using that money in

  • 2. How Did Forensic Science Start Did you ever hear how forensic science had gotten started? Have you ever heard of the foundations of forensic science before? Do you know what the role is of a forensic technician and know of an example of it? Did you ever hear about the future of forensic technology before? Did you ever hear how forensic science had gotten started? Forensic science has been happening throughout human history. Back when the Roman Empire was around, they had their own form of forensic science. It s been around as long as there have been some type of law enforcement trying to figure out how someone died. Over the years, the methods and the tools have evolved greatly. It s evolved from asking people questions, to being able run DNA though different DATA bases to see if they can find a match to the victim, or being able to find the criminal who had committed the crime. When it first started out with forensic science, it was a lot of guessing and a lot of best educational guess to figure out what weapon may have been used. Now, they can match fire arms to the crime and other weapon s that may have been used. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it comes to what forensic science means, it translates to science to law. The word forensic comes from the world forensus, which translates to the word forum. This applies to conflict resolution. An example of this is when somebody goes to court for a crime they feel has been committed. The person that has had the biggest impact in forensic science was Hans Gross (1847 1915). It s not always people that has helped shape forensic science, it has also been court cases that has helped shaped forensic science. Some of the cases that have helped shaped forensic science are Falcone in 2005, Ortmeier in 2006 and Saferstein in 2007. Those are just a few cases that have helped shape forensic ... THE PROPOSED MODEL The proposed IDS model presents an entire structure for selecting the best sub set of KDD cup 99 dataset which will proficiently characterize normal traffic and abnormal traffic through which computationally capable IDS is built. Here, a Robust feature selection (RFS) algorithm works by combining three filtering methods for fastening the training process. The main intention of this approach is to use fuzziness to integrate filtering methods. The proposed Framework of the IDS was given in figure 1. It states the procedure of feature selection method. In essence, it has four steps 1) Pre processing 2) Applying Filter approach for three methods 3) Ensemble Feature Selection 4) Classification through SVM. While the proposed method is generic and can be pertained to any dataset, for testifying the proposed method on KDDCup99 dataset in IDS has been done. • 4. The Philosophies Of The Philosopher Socrates James Joiner PHI150 21 March 2017 Socrates This paper will examine, in two parts, the worldviews of the philosopher Socrates. The first part will examine four of his worldviews using evidence from The Apology, The Crito, and The Phaedo, all written by Plato and depicting dialogues from Socrates. The first section of the paper will also use supplementary analysis from Socrates by George Rudebusch. The second section of this paper will be a critique of Socrate s worldviews. Part 1: Socrates Worldview Knowledge In the Apology, Socrates states ...that real wisdom is the property of the god, and this oracle is his way of telling us that human wisdom has little or no value (Apology 23a). Upon hearing that the god at Delphi had pronounced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates believed wisdom to be of the utmost importance, essentially saying that without it, the soul is incomplete. Condition No one knows with regards to death whether it is not really the greatest blessing that can happen to a man; but people dread it as though they were certain that it is the greatest evil (Apology 29a). In his explanation of wisdom and knowledge, Socrates also reveals his worldview of the human condition. Socrates states that those who fear death are foolish because there is no possible way to know what it really holds. He believed that there were things far worse than death. Included among these were ignorance and foolishness. This ties in with his worldview of knowledge as he went to great lengths to seek out a person with more knowledge than himself, an act that defies ignorance according to his definition. Socrates believed that an ignorant life was not a life worth living. When he revealed the ignorance of the politicians, poets, and craftsmen, they were upset, further showing their ignorance in that they were offended in Socrates attempting to impart some wisdom on them. He further states, I only wish that ordinary people had an unlimited capacity for doing harm; that would mean that they had an unlimited power for doing good, which would be a splendid thing. In fact they have neither. They cannot make a man wise or foolish (Crito 44d). This further imparts Socrates belief that the human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, in Mark Twain s story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, the main character, otherwise known as Smiley, does not live by this saying. The story of Smiley and his celebrated jumping frog takes place in a gold mining camp, which is located in Calaveras County, California, during the Gold Rush era. The prominent choices of diction which appear on the first page of Twain s short story, some examples include, lurking suspicion and he backed me into a corner and blockaded me with his chair. . The diction helps foreshadow the deception that occurs later on in the story; furthermore, the choice of diction suggests intelligence, which means that someone of higher intelligence is foreshadowed to try and deceive someone of lower intelligence despite the fact there are consequences. The dialogue of Smiley being accounted by Simon Wheezler, he ketched a frog one day and took him home and said he cal klated to edercate him (Twain 3), contains diction that emphasizes the lack of a formal education. By using diction that suggests lack of intelligence and education, Twain is able to use the theme of deception ending with unexpected consequences to showcase that probability that people with lower intelligence have a hard time learning of their mistakes, especially when deceived. The final example of diction, well I don t see no p ints about that frog that s any better n any other frog, (Twain 4), highlights another person with a lack of education, but this person has more intelligence or at least more awareness than the people Smiley usually tricks, which will eventually make it harder for Smiley to deceive him; thus, being unable to deceive him means ... • 7. The Fairytale Of Cinderella By James Poniewozik Each and every child grows up viewing Disney movies, wearing princess gowns, and buzz lightyear suits. The parents of these children are the individuals purchasing these Disney costumes, toys, candy, and other related items for their children. Our society today accepts Disney and their culture of entertainment as a part of a child s childhood experience without second thought. Elements of the fairytale of Cinderella has adapted over time to please the culture in which it is told; yet in today s culture, adaptation to these elements is taken to where it has never been. In The Princess Paradox, James Poniewozik says, You can have the girly dream of glass slippers and true love, these films say, as well as the womanly ideal of self determination and independence and any contradictions between them are no match for the movies magic (Poniewozik 324). Peggy Orenstein compliments Poniewozik s article because she states, The first Princess items, released with no marketing plan, no focus groups, no advertising, sold as if blessed by a fairy godmother (Orenstein 327). Poniewozik is trying to argue that films have altered the story of Cinderella in the 21st century cinema realm due to the addition of the concept of feminism, women s separation from men, and the traditional magic implemented within them. Orenstein marries these articles together indirectly by pointing out that Disney legitimately had no marketing plan, yet they continue to rake in money. The reason Disney ... • 8. Circumcision Persuasive Speech Title: Circumcision in baby boys Name: Leya Saju Plain Language Summary What is circumcision? What are the benefits? What are the risks? Circumcision is when the skin that surrounds the tip of the penis is removed. It is a very common surgery in the United States. It is usually done in newborns, but can also be done in older men. Families choose to do circumcision because of personal hygiene, faith, tradition etc. While other families see it as unnecessary. Circumcision makes it easier to wash the penis and keep the area clean. It also decreases the chance of getting infections. Sometimes in men who are not circumcised, it may become difficult to pull the foreskin back. This may cause that foreskin or the head of the penis to become inflamed. Also, cancer of the penis is seen less in circumcised men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rarely, the foreskin does not heal properly or the cut may be made too short or too long. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends circumcision because there are a lot more benefits than risks, but the decision is entirely up to the parents. How is it done? Does it hurt? Circumcision is usually done within 10 days after birth at the hospital nursery. It takes about 10 minutes to do. The baby will lie on his back and the foreskin will be removed by attaching a Mogen or Gomco clamp to the penis. Ointment and gauze are then used to wrap the penis. An injection with anesthetics or a cream for pain is used first. To distract the infant, sometimes sugar water is also used. Research also shows that there may be a difference in pain when a Mogen clamp is used instead of Gomco. Players are constantly honing their bodies in the weight room not just to become faster and stronger than their competition, but also to protect against the injuries that can ruin a season (Barrabi). The National Hockey League (NHL) was one of the last professional sports organizations to issue sanctions against players who cause concussions and head injuries. Just in the past season alone, there have been a total of 44 suspensions in the NHL (TSN.com). Many of these suspensions were assessed due to dangerous, and sometimes intentional, behavior. To many people, these 44 suspensions occurring in the past season may seem too excessive; compared to 2004, it is. However, the frequency of behavior resulting in suspensions has increased over the past several years due to rule changes and a new disciplinary council assessing said suspensions. Despite the change in rules, some still intentionally commit acts of violence against opposing players. These players defense is that they are trying to preserve the tradition and respect of the game by humbling new, arrogant players who unnecessarily show off or target star players (Jones). Although preserving this tradition is expected and necessary due to the violent nature of the game, many players let their tempers get out of control. Because of various injuries, especially head injuries, league officials should take a tougher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arthur is hidden away with another of Arthur s vassals, Sir Ector, until one New Year s Day some time after Uther s death. Arthur was given away until King Uther died because he did not want anyone to find out about him. But then, King Uther passed and Arthur was sent back to his mother. Luckily for Arthur, being raised by a different family did not effect him tremendously. He was able to lead a somewhat normal life and eventually becomes king. • 17. Essay Follow the River Follow the River Follow The River by James Alexander Thom is about Mary Ingles gruesome but yet courageous tale of her remarkable 1,000 mile journey home after she had escaped form the captivity of the Shawnee Indians. Through Mary Ingles hard work and determination she proved that all obstacles big and small can be overcome. The book started out with a bloody massacre at Mary Ingles Virginia settlement in 1755. Mary Ingles was pregnant with her third child and twenty four years of age when the Shawnee Indians came and kidnapped her, her two sons, her sister in law, and her neighbor. The journey to the Shawnee village lasted five weeks in the Virginia wilderness, and once the captives arrived at the village they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally Mary was able to find her husband, but after thirteen years she was able to ransom for only one of her sons back and her sister in law, the other two children were kept by the Shawnee. Follow the River had a lot of dialogue leaving the reader with the feeling that they were battling the Virginia wilderness right along with Mary Ingles. James Alexander Thom used vivid description on everything that he wrote, he painted the picture for the reader with a myriad of words, and he left no leaf undescribed in the Virginia wilderness. The only thing that seemed confusing about this book is that the reader can never figure out where Mary Ingles is , it would help a lot if a map was placed somewhere in the book showing the trail of Mary and her companion. James Alexander Thom did seem a little bias in his book. He would call The Shawnee Indians heathens, he always just looked at the English point of view and never the Indians point of view, because at this time the reader should be informed that the Indians are being forced to be moved from place to place by the white man, but I don t believe that the authors intent was to give the Shawnee Indians a bad name he just wanted to get the point across that some young pioneer ... Reflection For Classroom Learning To learn this week s material, answer the discussion post, program the programming assignment, and get a good grade on the self quiz, I studied the learning material for almost 6 hours a day. I find if fun to sit down with the learning material, which was chapters one and two, and take notes during all my free time. My reactions to the learning material chapters one and two are so much information, that I didn t have enough time to read the optional learning material, or watch the optional video lectures. Chapters one and two are more than 100 pages of reading material; however, I did have time to read the NetBeans tutorials. I m still waiting for feedback to my discussion posts. I may have gotten my discussion post done early. There were only 3 or four other discussion posts posted previous to me entering in my discussion response in the discussion forum. However, I gave these three other students responses posts to their discussion posts, where I gave good grades for using learning material vocabulary and learning material insight to what the definitions of four operators are( ++ , != , , and %= ). I m a little dis heartened right now. The reason for my discouragement is my computer may have a glitch. Certain mathematical operations are fouled up by some malicious code, and when I multiply variables by 10 (in Netbeans and other IDEs), I get erroneous decimal places added onto my figures. This week, I learned how to setup NetBeans, how to discern basic fundemental programming blocks of java, how to setup java variables, how to control the flow of execution with branches and loops, how to test for conditions with operators, how to build classes, how to use installed classes like String and Math, how to use installed subroutines with string and Math, what the size of primitive data types are(short, int, long, float, double, char, and ), how to use enums, etc. ...almost too much to list in one paragraph, here. Doris Lessing in the fifth child, Gabriel Garcia Marquez in The very old man with enormous wings and John R Keats in Ode to a nightingale use examples of unrequited love, and symbols of positive and negative experiences to show how lack of affection can drive a person to either find closure or to sink them into depression depending on their certain experiences. All three of the authors have found different ways to show their readers that even though there is a different ending to each story that there is still hope to fix unrequited love. As a result, the population is scrutinized for acknowledging religions practiced throughout the world. The government may not support a specific religion, but ultimately owes individuals the respect they deserve, even if they do associate with a particular belief. This happens in order to make religious freedom only a minor idea instead of the greater meaning of it as a right. A third method known as satellite gravimetry measures changes in Earth s gravity field by deducing satellite data and determining changes in ice mass. When considering the retreat of the Greenland and the Antarctic ice sheets it is important to understand how global warming is affecting the total mass and volume of the ice sheets. Global warming, put simply is affecting ice sheets in two main ways. Warmer temperatures cause higher levels of precipitation, which means more snowfall. On the contrary, warming temperatures cause ice sheets to thin and melt. Therefore we must deduce which has the greater effect. A variety of techniques, some which have been mentioned earlier have been employed over the years to measure Greenland and Antarctica s mass balances. Various independent measurements have all agree upon a clear long term trend showing a decline in ice mass. Confirmation has been acquired by the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment, which measured shifts in Earth s gravity field. In the 1960s Greenland was losing 100 gigatonnes of ice per year, this rate slowed during the 1970s and 1980s in near mass balance. By 1996 the rate of ice mass loss had increased to 97 gigatonnes per year. As of 2007 a rapid increase of ice loss occurred, measured at 267 gigatonnes per year. • 27. Parenting Styles In Psychology Psychology is the science of the mind and behavior of living beings. This area of study originally began in December 1879 by a German college professor named Wilhelm Wundt, but it is still a widely researched topic today. Over the past few centuries, psychologists have dedicated their lives to researching how the mind and actions of others correlate. Through their research, they have discovered concepts such as sensation and perception, learning, memory, thinking, motivation and emotions, health, and personalities. These discoveries have contributed greatly to society to help explain why some people behave differently than others. Scientists have also learned that people are not born knowing everything, but rather they develop over their lifespan. Factors such as parenting styles, psychological disorders, genetics, environments, and personality components are present in the development of people, including myself. These elements affect the outcome of someone s mental and physical decisions. Parenting styles are one of the most impactful factors of a person s development in life. The three major parenting styles are authoritarian, permissive, and authoritative. Authoritarian parents forceful and they use many rules and expect complete respect out of their children. Erythrocytes, making up 40 50% of blood volume (Yamaguchi et al 2013), are a key component for cellular respiration. Erythrocytes contain abundant nutrients like iron which is required for life in nearly all forms. In this study, the researchers provide evidence that iron in red blood cells partially inhibit pneumococcal growth and that S. pneumoniae has the ability to invade human erythrocytes, supporting their hypothesis. By using a neutrophile bactericidal assay, the researchers were also able to show that the survival rate for S. Pneumoniae in cultures with erythrocytes increased 3x. The results also display that the pathogen s use of erythrocyte components enables it to evades the immune system of the host. Volcanic and Seismic events are major pieces of evidence towards proving that plate tectonics theory is valid (40 marks) The theory of plate tectonics states that the Earth s lithosphere (top layer of the Earth s crust) is split up into rigid sections called plates that are moving relative to one another as they move on top of the underlying semi molten mantle. These plates are either continental, The North American Plate, or oceanic, The Nazca Plate. Tectonic plates are powered by convection currents, which is the circular movement of magma within the mantle. These currents are powered by the core, which heats the magma, causing it to rise, cool and fall back down. This circular motion causes the plates, which float on the mantle, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Earthquakes can be created on any of the plate boundaries. Earthquakes occur when tension is released from inside the crust. Plates do not always move smoothly alongside each other and sometimes get stuck. When this happens pressure builds up. When this pressure is eventually released, an earthquake tends to occur. The point inside the crust where the pressure is released is called the focus. The point on the Earth s surface above the focus is called the epicentre. Earthquake energy is released in seismic waves. These waves spread out from the focus. The waves are felt most strongly at the epicentre, becoming less strong as they travel further away. The most severe damage caused by an earthquake will happen close to the epicentre. But there are some anomalies as there are earthquakes which don t take place on a plate boundary and it s the same with volcanoes. An example of this is Hawaii. Hawaii is a volcanic island which is found in the middle of a tectonic plate. Hawaii is an example of a hotspot. The places known as hotspots are volcanic regions thought to be fed by underlying mantle that is anomalously hot compared with the mantle elsewhere. They may be on, near to, or far from tectonic plate boundaries. There are two hypotheses to explain them. One suggests that they are due to hot mantle plumes that rise from the core mantle boundary. Population Dynamics and Its Effects on Climate Change Policy Population dynamics and its effects of climate change policy Population growth and its effects on climate change have been hotly debated in recent years by scientists and politicians alike. The Fourth Assessment Report of the IPCC has sparked great interest and concern over climate change and how it affects countries differently. The concept of environmental justice has focused on climate change s unbalanced effects on developing countries, whose populations are more vulnerable to climate change. With rapidly growing populations and inadequate resources and technologies, developing countries have struggled to develop their economy sustainability. The relationship between population and climate change is grossly oversimplified by the idea that as population increase so does its effect on climate change. Realistically, population and climate change affect each other through economic trends, development patterns, society, institutions and the government. Population dynamics is not simply the number of people in a given space. Rather, it is the distribution and continuously changing demographics that make population dynamics a complex but important factor in climate change policy. It follows then that these principles call for research in and the use of technology, the modes of delivery, issues in student learning, and pedagogy in relation to the subject areas. In their turn, these involve the following issues amongst many others. The capability for research in open, distance and adult learning needs to be enhanced. But distance education is no longer an island unto itself, so this research capability has to draw from and become integrated with the community s overall research capabilities, especially in educational and social research. A funeral in Italy depends a great deal on the family and their financial position in the village. The more money, the more prestigious and elaborate the event would be. Mona said that the deceased is kept in a casket at the family home, and that people come to the house to remember the dead. The family decorates the door of their home indicating that a death has occurred, and they also put a table outside, in front of the house, with pictures of the deceased on it. They also post notices all over town telling that a death has occurred, and about the life of the deceased. These things are the families way of letting the village knows that someone has died. After everyone has visited the deceased they all go to the church where a service is held, including a full mass. Many believe that humanism began with the early Greek civilizations, but there are many instances of non Greek expressions of humanism. From Hammurabi s Code in Mesopotamia, to the Romans art and sculptures, and lastly the way the Egyptians viewed their Pharaoh s as leaders with supreme importance. Humanism is a term that has become synonymous with human and natural rights. One of the earliest expressions of human rights is Hammurabi s Code of Laws. Hammurabi s laws were often recognized because of the harsh punishments that would occur if you broke a certain rules. If a man put out the eye of another man, his eye shall be put out. Even though to many people these laws would be considered extremely harsh, these laws became a model for future law systems. These laws set an example that for every improper action there would be a proper punishment that would follow. The pluralization of performances in the WFF s continued through the 1980 s and 1990 s. During the 1990 s there was an apparent fusion of traditional and popular idioms which further blurred the lines between its suggested binary. During the early 2000 there were questions addressing the political issues of the program such as the apparent absence of aboriginal performances. In conclusion, the change in performance seen in the last three decades of the WFF shows that the idea of the folk is tangible and is subject to change. One of the principle reason that its definition changes is because of the underlying idea that folk music is music which features exoticism from the normal repertoire which constitutes a Canadian identity. Therefore, while in the 1970, the English ballads were considered different, as the performance frequency of the English ballads were growing, its integration into the Canadian sound/music identity was being solidified. The author of Lamentations was in deep distress. In verse eighteen it says, So I say, My splendor is gone and all that I hoped is in the Lord. The writer was calling out to God as he recounted his suffering. To relate his bitterness to something, he uses the comparisons of gall and wormwood. This was a powerful comparison because of the of the pungency of the two. It is possible that C.S. Lewis chose the name wormwood for this character because of its bitter effects upon a person. The wormwood plant can make a person feel one way, and so deceives them into believing that the way they feel under its influence is enjoyable. However, the wormwood plant causes destruction to both the mind and the body. In the same way, Wormwood would deceive a person into thinking that sinning is enjoyable and has lasting benefits. He was a top official in Rome, namely the quot;Judge of Taste quot; in Nero s court (129). Regardless of the responsibilities he had, he was an aristocrat. The history of Rome was written from an aristocratic perspective because they were the ones who had the money, ambition and free time to document history. Petronius believed that slaves are low class, and that a slave that has been set free, id est a freedmen, is still a slave at heart, ergo worthless. For the cultured Roman, it would be repulsive to even take bread from her hand, let alone marry her (26). Some very sublime, perhaps debatable evidence of the thesis is presented by Petronius using a metaphor to express his view that a slave will always be a slave. If a slave is freed, he s still the same person, a low life. Petronius writes a scene where a boar wearing the hat of a freedman is brought into the dining room.
