Churchill And Operation Catapult
Put differently, Churchill tried diplomacy first with France and then indirectly through the U.S. Both
strategies serve as indications of Churchill s push to get the result he wanted. Nevertheless, the lack of
success with diplomatic efforts did not deter Churchill. It only drove him to devise a more forceful,
violent tactic: Operation Catapult. The conditions of Operation Catapult demonstrate that Churchill
carried out the attack at Mers el Kébir because he assumed Germany had plans to take the French
Fleet. All of the options included in the ultimatum that Britain gave France, including the threat to use
force, centered on keeping the French Fleet away from Germany. To demonstrate, one of the
conditions demanded that France permit the fleet

Why Is Fighting In Ice Hockey Essay
Why is Fighting Allowed in Ice Hockey?
The frequent fighting tradition in the armature and professional Ice Hockey has been a part of the
sport for many centuries and the fans love it when individuals or teams fight. Contrary to popular
belief, fighting is punishable in the game although tolerated. The fines are minor, commonly five
minutes out of the game. This situation is different in other sports where fighting attracts suspension,
ejection, and huge fines. The fighting culture in Ice Hockey goes by the name the code in what
officials say is allowing the game to police itself by making somebody pay the consequences of doing
something bad. Some fights are light while others are serious and lead to spilling of blood and harm to
body parts. Since the early 1900s, fighting in the sport has been on the decline as the game develops
and more rules are put in place to protect players.
History
From the beginning of the sport, fighting became inevitable because of its competitive nature, player s
emotions, and the equipment s they use. There are different reasons given as to why fighting occurs,
including lack of rules during the early development of the sport and crime and poverty in Canadian
neighborhoods where the sport developed. The inclusion of the blue lines in 1918 that allowed
forward passing in the neutral zone increased physical play that further favored fighting, in ... Show

Other reasons may be personal like bad blood between players, revenge, or even an enforcer s need to
keep his job. Enforcers have no official role, but they play in shifts like all the other players, however,
their primary role is to prevent opposing players not to play rough. They also deter excessive physical
play from the opposing team s pests and they also go by the name goons.

Theme Of Love In Frankenstein
Throughout the novel, Frankenstein, many of the characters show the love that they have for each
other. It seemed as though love was one of the main aspects in the book and what seemed to hold a lot
of relationships together. Of course it is known for a mother or a father to love their children, but just
as they love their children, it is understood that they love each other just as much. Just how Victor
loved Elizabeth with what seemed to be every breath he took, and the monster loved Victor because
that was he creator, his father figure. No matter the pain that love may bring, it will always be one of
the main aspects of life.
Earlier in the novel, Victor states, Elizabeth had caught the scarlet fever; but her illness was not
severe, and she quickly recovered. During her confinement, many arguments had been urged to
persuade my mother to refrain from attending upon her. (...), she could no longer debar herself from
society, and entered her chamber longer debar herself from her society, and entered her chamber long
before the danger of the infection was passed. The consequences of this imprudence were fatal
(Shelley, 25). The mother was one of the first to show that the love of a guardian is one that should be
cherished because the actions will show much louder than words. Caroline would not sleep knowing
that her child was sick and the sickness could possibly kill her. The mother had soon gotten sick, but
she was not as fortunate as Elizabeth. A mother s love is a love that

The Monster Figurative Language
The lyrics to a song called The Monster by Eminem are different than the lyrics to any other rap that I
have heard. This song is about the writers fame, and how he sometimes struggles and becomes angry
at it. The speaker of The Monster is I , which we know is the author, Eminem. This means that the
point of view of this poem is first person. In this song, Eminem is recounting events that are occurring.
By looking at lines such as I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek and Hit the lottery, oh
wee (next line:) But with what I gave up to get it was bittersweet , I figured out that the poem reveals
that the speaker s character is a tad frustrated that fame caused him to give up some things that he
loved. Eminem isn t exactly addressing a particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one thing, I realized that this poem has no setting, and that there isn t a particular event. Then, I
examined the figurative language of the song, and if there are any patterns. The Monster is mostly
made up of figurative language, making it quite thought provoking. I noticed that it all refers back to
his fame and his struggles. Basically, all of the figurative language is about the same topic. I also
noticed that there are two main types that the author uses: idioms/expressions and similes. ...For
wanting my cake I eat it too, and wanting it both ways is an example of an idiom used in the song.
Going cuckoo and cooky as Kool Keith and Ironic cause I think I m getting so huge I need a shrink are
only two of the many similes in The Monster. Thirdly in my deep analysis of this song, I determined
the structure of this poem. I came to conclusions that every stanza has sixteen (16) line plus a (1) line
leading into the chorus. So every stanza includes seventeen (17) lines. In addition, I determined that
there is a lot of rhyming, but there seems to be no

A Day At Merritt Reservoir
Have you ever smelled 4 day old moldy tube socks that have been soaked in lake water and left under
a bed? As a cabin keeper at Merritt Reservoir I had many bizarre encounters in a mere three month
summer break. Imagine walking into the crammed bait shop on a crisp summer morning. You clock in
for the day and gather all the supplies needed to get the job done. These supplies may range from the
typical cleaning utensils such as rags and window cleaner, extra toilet paper and towels, Febreeze, and
rubber gloves for sticky situations. However, you also must be sure to grab mousetraps, a bible, and a
strange device that consists of a hook on a long wooden rod. You will soon learn what these items are
for, and how handy they can be throughout the day ahead. The ongoing task of the day is to heave
your massive cleaning cart up and down the slopping old concrete walkways leading to each cabin.
This monster is convenient since it carries all of your items and you have them handy all at once, but
can be a workout on a long day. When cleaning cabins, you do not have a set amount of hours to look
forward to finishing. Every day, you are given a set amount of cabins, which can vary depending on
how busy the lake is. You must complete that set amount throughout the day, regardless of how fast or
slow you work. The first cabin of the day houses a family of 4 who must rarely rough it in the woods.
They have requested every day this week to be the first to get cleaned out in the

De Nadie Commentary
De Nadie Commentary
This documentary is focused on the numerous immigrants originating from Central America,
undertaking an extremely dangerous journey of about 2500 miles up north towards the southern
border of the United States, where they hope to cross and profit from the wealth available in the U.S..
The movie is accordingly named de Nadie , which translates into No One , and follows various
immigrants on their journeys, interviewing them on their way and depicting the many injustices and
setbacks encountered by each of them. The difficulties emphasized in this documentary are mainly the
one s which are usually overlooked when discussing the issue of U.S immigration, including political,
economical, medical and criminal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the documentary stories are told by immigrants who crossed paths with La Mara, some
about fighting back and being savagely injured, others about obeying and surviving and others who
hid and lost everything.
Contributing to all this violence and injustice, one would hope for the just calls of the police.
Unfortunately the police in Central America is just as bad, and is referred to in the movie as the
thieves with permits . The police is generally known not to help the immigrants or at least act
judicially, but rather to assault them, stealing everything they own from them and beating and abusing
them sometimes resulting in casualties. This is confirmed in the documentary by many immigrants
and civilians in Mexico who have personally experienced the abuse and see no bright future for justice
in their country. The police is also accused of being corrupt, so not much can be done against the
situation and malpractices, also due to the unwillingness of the victims to file complaints and raise
awareness. Most are unwilling out of fear of being deported back to their own country, this bringing us
to the next issue, the Immigrations Department. Unfortunately once the immigrants get to the border
of Mexico, the next obstacle addressed in the movie is the Mexico Immigrations Department. In the
documentary the Immigration Department explains how Mexico has become extremely involved in
the U.S immigration procedure of the

Masking In Me Before You, By Jojo Moyes
Masking Is Good...Or Is It?
When was the last time you wore a mask? Was it beneficial or harmful to you and/or others? Masking
started a really very long time ago, and it still happens today. It happens occurs all the time constantly,
and everyone will do it sometime in their life. People change their persona depending on where they
are and their environment. Masks can be worn mentally or physically, and for many different
purposes, including plays, religion, rituals, or trying to fit in. These devices can also be harmful or
beneficial painful or profitable to you, someone else, or society. Sometimes Some days it affects all of
these things. They Masks give people the power to do what they want, and give them the courage, but
it can backfire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason people mask themselves is so that they can change how society views them, therefore
people don t get to be who they really truly are. In the book, Me Before You , written by Jojo Moyes,
Will Traynor doesn t get to live the life that he wants to live. This life he wants to live is the one he
had before the motorcycle accident, where had had become mostly paralyzed. Louisa, his caregiver,
separated his depression a bit from him, but he still decided that he wanted to commit suicide because
of both the physical and mental pain he is going through. This Throughout the story shows that Will
masks himself therefore because he can t be who he truly is and who he wants to be. In the book, Will
explains to Louisa about his old self, with his memories and experiences. He recalls a time when he
was in Paris, going through the cafés and the city square. Louisa mentioned her taking him to Paris,
but Will described that he wants to go as his old self and not the person he is now because it causes
too much pain. He had a great life before, full of fun and sports, but now, everything is different. The
mask is keeping Will from having a good life and the one that he was meant to have. Masks, an article
by George Ulrich, states, In play these children and adults are able to become something they are not;
something that cannot be...One of the most important things that masks do is transform the identity of
the wearer... These parts of the text shows how masks can change them and who the wearers really
are. This affects people because they spend their life being someone that they aren t. Some would say
that they help people become a person that they want to be. This only applies to some cases and
people need to look at the overall picture. Even if they wear the mask and they like it on, they aren t
who they were meant to

Essay on Ideology in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Minister’s...
Ideology in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil
Bennett and Royle in their textbook, Introduction to Literature, Criticism and Theory, define ideology
as representing ... the imaginary relationship of individuals to their real conditions of existence (161).
The ideology of self, of personal identity, is represented by a person s perception of what is acceptable
in their society. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story, The Minister s Black Veil, the minister appears
before his community with a black veil covering his face. He gives no explanation for this apparel and
the community becomes agitated that their minister refuses to remove it. The readers challenge is to
discover why the minister wears the veil and why he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hooper, pacing slowly his meditative way toward the meetinghouse. With one accord they started,
expressing more wonder than if some strange minister were coming to dust the cushions of Mr.
Hooper s pulpit. Are you sure it is our parson? inquired Goodman Gray of the sexton. (Hawthorne 2 4)
Accepted ideology is an ideology that is in itself not real, it is illusory and mutable. When the illusion
is challenged, the ideology of self is challenged. By using words that depict the illusory ideology of
the parishioners, and perhaps also mirror the illusory ideology of the reader, Hawthorne reinforces the
idea that Ideology is constituted by images and fantasies (Bennett Royle 160). The sentences, He has
changed himself into something awful... (Hawthorne 8) and The black veil...throws its influence over
his whole person, and makes him ghostlike (Hawthorne 13) reinforce the illusory aspects of an
established ideology. Bennett and Royle say, To become human, to identify oneself as a subject, then,
is an effect of ideology (162). The parishioners cannot locate the minister beneath his veil as a subject
they can only locate the veil as subject. The black veil, though it covers only our pastor s face, throws
its influence over his whole person, and makes him ghostlike... (Hawthorne 14). The minister, the
previously known subject, has become ghostlike , has vanished to another realm and the parishioners
expectations and illusory ideology is upset. This reaffirms

Attrition Rate In Youth Sports
It is amazing just how many children play sports in the United States of America. The number of our
youth between the ages 5 18 years old that play, was over 36 million in 2016 (Seth). An alarming
number, is that 70% of these children stop playing sports by the time they turn 13 years old. So why
do so many children stop playing sports at this young age? How much higher could that 36 million
plus number be? What, if anything, can be done to fix this? I propose that the attrition rate in children
s sports will decrease, and these same children can be taught valuable life skills like teamwork, how to
win, how to lose, and set them up for future life challenges with proper education and training for
coaches and parents. It is important to note ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is it to work really hard or to get cuts and bruises? Is that what motivates them to play? Kids play
sports to have fun. My own daughter has verified what I have been reading about. It is the parents and
coaches that change that for them. One website polled kids to ask them what they expect a coach to be
focused on. The number one thing kids say the coach should focus on is making sure every kid plays.
That was followed by teaching new skills and third was winning (Gavin). The innocence of kids
always impresses me. Many times, parents are focused on college and scholarships as a long term goal
for the child. Parents can push their children toward this goal not thinking about the negative
outcomes. Sometimes kids are pushed so hard that they lose interest in the game, or worse, they try to
rise to the challenge and injure themselves. Sometimes parents need to step back and remember they
are children. They are only focused on having fun and parents need to enjoy this time in their children

The Reality Of Reality Television Essay
Reality television is now one of the most consumed television genres broadcasted to the general
public. Reality television has become more about mindless watching and creating the most unrealistic
environment possible, rather than creating a show for an important purpose. Today, shows like Beauty
and the Geek, Big Brother, and every other reality show fit into this mold, but when viewed critically
lessons appear. In the case of TV today, reality shows depict an altered reality because of the
unrealistic situations this genre presents. Firstly, Beauty and the Geek claimed they conducted the
ultimate social experiment, and yet is still considered as a show in the genre of reality TV. Since
Beauty and the Geek subsisted as a social experiment, altered variables, such as the environment,
influenced participants to conduct themselves in a different way than how they would behave on a
regular basis in reaction to the stimuli the show provided. Contestants altered their behavior by
sharing a bed with a stranger, and they acted friendly because they were now living with strangers in a
home with cameras, so they felt they needed to impress. Beauty and the Geek is comparable to Big
Brother because they were both filmed under altered conditions. For Big Brother specifically, the
contestants participated under a much more controlled environment by being locked into a compound
that was cut off from the rest of the outside world. This meant no TVs, phones, computers, etc., which

Some Application of Calculus
Calculus: Calculus (Latin, calculus, a small stone used for counting) is a branch of mathematics
focused on limits, functions, derivatives, integrals, and infinite series. This subject constitutes a major
part of modern mathematics education. It has two major branches, Differential Calculus and Integral
Calculus, which are related by the fundamental theorem of calculus. Calculus is the study of change,
in the same way that geometry is the study of shape and algebra is the study of operations and their
application to solving equations. A course in calculus is a gateway to other, more advanced courses in
mathematics devoted to the study of functions and limits, broadly called mathematical analysis.

Although when we are dealing with a curve it is a different story. Calculus allows us to find out how

the Area of Any Shape: Although we do have standard methods to calculate the area of some shapes,
calculus allows us to do much more. Trying to find the area on a shape like this would be very difficult
if it wasn t for calculus. Some Practical Examples: Example1: A manufacturer sells 500 units per week
at 31 dollars per unit. If the price is reduced by one dollar, 20 more units will be sold. To maximize the
revenue, find: (a) The selling price Let x be the number of one dollar reduction Price in dollars per
unit: 31 − x (b) The number of units sold Number of units sold: 500 + 20x (c) The maximum revenue
Revenue = (price per unit). (Number of units) R(x) = (31 − x). (500 + 20x) = −20x2 + 120x + 15500

Critical Review Of Analytical Frameworks
In the past decade, language memoirs, linguistic autobiographies, and learners journals and diaries
have become a popular means of data collection in applied linguistics. It is not always clear however
how one should go about analyzing this data. The aim of this paper is to offer a critical review of
analytical frameworks applied to how one language autobiography can say a lot about one person s
past experiences and shapes them into who they are today. I will discuss the dialect, both geographical
environment and social factors, and associates within through developing, using and changing an
idiolect which constitutes part of a persona and self identity of these frameworks in relation to the type
of information they seek: subject reality, life reality, and text reality. I argue that some analytical
results, in particular content from academic journals, are insensitive to the interpretive nature of
autobiographic data. Subsequently, I will talk about my idiolect that is a collection of features of
vocabulary development through parent child directed speech, neighborhood and the Hawaiian Island
Voices, textism behavior with school children and academic attainment, depression and its effect on
language, and gaining identity through second language learning.
Language is acquired through steps, and is a gradual, lengthy process, and one that involves a lot of
apparent errors . Those who strive to own cultural and linguistic competence and to live it are on

Solitary Confinement Should Not Be Rigid And Tough On Crime
Defining Solitary Confinement The government has concluded that any research lab should not keep
testing animals in the cages, so why government is treating human being in that way? The term
solitary confinement becomes so popular as the politicians promised to be rigid and tough on crime.
The politician makes different promises about keeping us safe and putting bad peoples behind the
bars, but they donot think twice about potential effects on the convict s health and family. Moving on,
Solitary confinement is an isolation of the prisoner in a dark room sized of toilet for the long period of
time. It breaks their spirit and ability to think; also has an uncountable negative effect on the body.
They basically spend more than 23 hours per a day in the room that is same as the average parking

people who came back after serving months in the confinement, likely to suffer from mental illness
and experience sleeping problems, hallucinations like strange sounds and uncontrolled fear.
Furthurmore, the situation of the prisoners is worst because the human body needs to interact with
other peoples to maintain their mental and cognitive state. Without any interaction, they suffer from
anxiety and depression that leads to various health and behavioral problems. In the solitary
confinement, prisoners are being abused by the guards and other cell mates. There are plenty of cases

What Is The Difference Between Ancient Mesopotamia And...
Ancient Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt are two of the earliest and greatest civilizations to ever exist.
They both show the transition from a Paleolithic society into a settled civilization. Nevertheless,
Mesopotamia has been a worldwide centre of awe and amazement . The first written language created
by the Sumerians of ancient Mesopotamia became the first means of of written communication for
humankind. The spread of agriculture created a new way of life and evolved man from nomadic
hunters into civilized people . Most important of all, the creation of the wheel opened up a new way
for transportation to be carried out. Between both civilizations, it ancient Mesopotamia left the
greatest impact on posterity.
To begin, the Sumerians of ancient Mesopotamia introduced the first forms of written language
Cuneiform. The beginning of writing was an essential tool that transferred thoughts and speech into
text. It was extremely important and allowed for the beginning of record keeping of all sorts. At this
point, writing was used only for record keeping, and thus only concrete words(nouns) such as ox ,
grain and sheep were needed. As society became more complex, the language evolved enabling signs
to be used...and eventually abstract thoughts (Newman 44). The world came to know a unique way of
expressing thoughts and learned to convey messages through writing. From then on, records could be
kept, history and stories could be recorded and abstract thinking could shine

Whitman s Song Of Myself
Song of Myself , by Whalt Whitman, is a poem included in the book Leaves of Grass written in 1855.
This poem is probably the most popular of the entire book and, also, one of the most acclaimed and
influential poems written by an American (Wikipedia, 2015). Due to its immense popularity, it has
been translated to many different languages. In the case of Spanish translations, the most well known
version is the one translated by Borges in 1969. Despite its public acknowledgment, Borges translation
is not completely faithful to the original poem. In fact, Canto de mi mismo presents differences with
the original poem, as a result of the differing personal views from both authors. One phrase whose

Ocean Acidification And Its Effects On The Environment Essay
Unmistakable people are familiar with the probability that looks reefs to submerged rainforests. Coral
reefs orchestrate the most biodiverse living spaces in the ocean, and their closeness is crucial to the
survival of a clearing number of other marine species an awe inspiring piece of which we rely on upon
for support. To understand carbon developing in ocean water we need to appreciate the carbon
condition. Right when CO2 segregates in seawater to go on watery CO2 (CO2(aq)) it moreover shapes

Okonkwo And Ikemefuna
Okonkwo lost himself after losing everything he had. He didn t have a real enough sense of self to
adapt to all the changes that hit him like a whirlwind. All Okonkwo ever wanted was to be better than
his father. Not to prove to himself that he was better, but to prove it to the other villagers. As a way to
achieve this, he hardened himself at young age and took lead role in his homelife. Okonkwo was never
complacent until Ikemefuna came only. Okonkwo had plenty of children, but none of them to ever be
just right. Nwoye reminded him too much Unoka and put the fear of repetition in his heart and Enzima
was perfect, she knew Okonkwo like the back of her hand but she was of course, a female. Ikemefuna
took up the son role.

comparing their features it appears that SCC Soft Computer provides higher and latest technology, but
I have difficulty understanding few of their terminology when describing their product features.
Therefore, to me, I come to the conclusion that adapting to their application might be challenging and

Democracy And The Benefits Of Democracy
The world is changing, and right now there is a great amount of tension between many of the
countries. So how do we solve all of this tension? A democratic government protects the rights of its
citizens creating a society where everyone works together to improve the country economically,
politically and socially. Before one can begin to discuss the merits of democracy, one must first
answer the question what is democracy? In his essay on democracy, Robert Dahl explains how
democracy cannot exist without protecting the rights of its citizens. Democracy is more than a system
of government, it is also a system of rights because rights are the essential building blocks of a
democratic government (Dahl 100). Democracy builds off of the idea of human rights to create a
system of government shaped around a collection of powers which belong to every citizen. Because
rights provide the foundation for the democratic system, it cannot be practiced without providing a
guarantee of personal rights. Cornel West illustrates how democracy is more than just a type of
government, it is a way of life which benefits its citizens. Democracy is a cultural way of being which
causes people to become empowered and enlightened (West 115 16). Democracy changes the way that
its citizens think, in democratic societies the culture is based largely around how democracy is
beneficial. The cultural influence of democracy causes a change in its citizens they develop into more
sophisticated

Persuasive Essay On Drug Decriminalization
Just Say No. This phrase was uttered in 1982 by Nancy Reagan, the first lady of the United States, in
response to a schoolgirl s question of what she should do if offered drugs (Weinraub A5). These words
became the slogan for a nationwide substance abuse prevention program that followed the then
recently enacted drug policies intended to discourage the manufacture, sale, and use of illicit drugs in
the United States. These zero tolerance policies carried harsh penalties and strict enforcement for all
drug related offenses. Almost four decades later, these policies are still in effect, as is their focus on
criminalization as a means to reduce the availability and usage of drugs. Their ineffectiveness is
evidenced by the facts that drug use rates have remained steady over the past four decades and
incarceration rates have exponentially rose during that same period. I believe that a new course of
action should be taken, and a bold new drug policy should be enacted. Decriminalization would result
in a substantial decrease of the prison population, relieve the unnecessary burden that has been placed
on our criminal justice system, shift the paradigm from drug enforcement to drug treatment, reduce the
health risk of HIV, AIDS, and heroin related deaths; and provide unprecedented benefits from the
regulation of the manufacturing and sales of substances that are currently illegal.
In order to understand why drugs should be decriminalized in this country, it is important to know

Poverty and Social Security
Is work a route out of poverty?
In recent years there has been much debate on the subject of work and is work the true route out of
poverty? This piece of work will show both sides of the story as in how people look at the topic from
government officials to the common person. It will look at policies that government have set to get
people back to work. This piece of work will look at a number of different sources. There are many
that still believe that staying on benefits is the best choice for them and there is much evidence to
support this point as well, this point can be seen more and more in the last 7 or 8 years, ... Show more

In truth, there are millions who still live in a poor household and this is even when there is at least one
occupant that is in a full time job, these people are still in poverty because wages are not keeping up
with the rate of infliction. In recent years the number of household that are working and that are still in
poverty has actually increased. Although in recent years the number of households that have no one
working in them and that were in poverty has declined, so it can be seen that in some cases work is not
the route out of poverty. Buck, (2008)
The more you look into this subject in depth the more you see that there seems to be no way out of
poverty even if the person is working in a full time job. The state of the nation report which was done
by Alan Milburn suggests that work is no longer the way out of poverty because of the rise in day to
day living which has been rising for many years, but the minimum wages has not being keeping up
with this rise. Alan Milburn believe that to help with the minimum wage, the winter fuel allowance
should be cut. He pointed out that pensioners are not affected by the down turn as much as younger
people that are still working. This point was seen to be citizen heavily. Alan Miburn also say in the
report that there should be more of a performance related pay for teachers and many other jobs. The

Examine the way that the two scenes from the Sixth Sense...
The intriguing supernatural thriller, Sixth Sense, combines a mixture of honesty and deception to
create a film which is renowned as having one of the most unpredictable and satisfying endings, at
least in recent cinema. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the film reveals the tortured existence of
Cole, a very unique little boy, cursed with a unique but sinister gift, a sixth sense the ability to see the
dead. Haunted by these apparitions since birth and unable to share his troubles for fear of suspicion of
his insanity, Cole struggles under the burden of his gift, leaving him disturbed and isolated from those
around him until the more obvious signs of his mental turmoil begin to appear in his behaviour.
However, shortly after a violent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the following two scenes it is possible to find many instances of the techniques which make this
possible and to perceive more fully the connection between what we are shown and what this leads us
to presume.
In the first of the two scenes we witness the introduction of Cole and Dr Crowe in what appears to be
a pre arranged visit. A vital part of convincing the audience of his existence is in creating the illusion
of interaction between himself and others and in the opening of the scene, the body language of Cole s
mother and Dr Crowe is used to suggest this. In medium shot, (often used to provide a ?blank sheet?
for emotions), we see the two characters in profile. While Dr Crowe is calm and smiling slightly, Cole
s mother holds her body angled away from him and has a tight, cold expression, giving a definite
impression of tension. From this it appears that a conversation and more probably a disagreement has
taken place between them, as a ghost he would be unable to do this, the audience would have no
reason to suspect him at this point. The tension also allows us to presume that she looks away from
him in order to avoid his gaze, rather than as a result of his invisibility. However, both here and when
Cole enters the room medium close up shots and shots over the shoulder provide us with a view Dr
Crowe s line of sight and of course it is only natural to assume that if his gaze was

Tourette s Syndrome Analysis
Barking, convulsive tics, grimacing, swearing Imagine having frequent involuntary urges of mimicry
and repetition of abrupt behaviors. These traits are often associated with Tourette Syndrome, a
neurological disorder that researchers believe is caused by and abnormal metabolism of the
neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin. It is genetically transmitted from parent to child. There is
a fifty percent chance of passing the gene on from parent to child. It s one of the more common
genetic diseases detected in one to ten children out of 1,000. The exact cause of Tourette s syndrome is
still unknown, some research suggests that it occurs when the neurotransmitters fail to balance within
the brain. Readers question, how someone can go from tossing pots and pans, to being very precise as
a highly recommended surgeon. Tourette s Syndrome does not totally affect a persons life
productivity, nor does it it result in an altered life expectancy. Populations not affected by this
disorder, fail to understand how someone could suddenly exhibit such normality. Developing a further

  • 2. Churchill And Operation Catapult Put differently, Churchill tried diplomacy first with France and then indirectly through the U.S. Both strategies serve as indications of Churchill s push to get the result he wanted. Nevertheless, the lack of success with diplomatic efforts did not deter Churchill. It only drove him to devise a more forceful, violent tactic: Operation Catapult. The conditions of Operation Catapult demonstrate that Churchill carried out the attack at Mers el Kébir because he assumed Germany had plans to take the French Fleet. All of the options included in the ultimatum that Britain gave France, including the threat to use force, centered on keeping the French Fleet away from Germany. To demonstrate, one of the conditions demanded that France permit the fleet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Why Is Fighting In Ice Hockey Essay Why is Fighting Allowed in Ice Hockey? The frequent fighting tradition in the armature and professional Ice Hockey has been a part of the sport for many centuries and the fans love it when individuals or teams fight. Contrary to popular belief, fighting is punishable in the game although tolerated. The fines are minor, commonly five minutes out of the game. This situation is different in other sports where fighting attracts suspension, ejection, and huge fines. The fighting culture in Ice Hockey goes by the name the code in what officials say is allowing the game to police itself by making somebody pay the consequences of doing something bad. Some fights are light while others are serious and lead to spilling of blood and harm to body parts. Since the early 1900s, fighting in the sport has been on the decline as the game develops and more rules are put in place to protect players. History From the beginning of the sport, fighting became inevitable because of its competitive nature, player s emotions, and the equipment s they use. There are different reasons given as to why fighting occurs, including lack of rules during the early development of the sport and crime and poverty in Canadian neighborhoods where the sport developed. The inclusion of the blue lines in 1918 that allowed forward passing in the neutral zone increased physical play that further favored fighting, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Theme Of Love In Frankenstein Throughout the novel, Frankenstein, many of the characters show the love that they have for each other. It seemed as though love was one of the main aspects in the book and what seemed to hold a lot of relationships together. Of course it is known for a mother or a father to love their children, but just as they love their children, it is understood that they love each other just as much. Just how Victor loved Elizabeth with what seemed to be every breath he took, and the monster loved Victor because that was he creator, his father figure. No matter the pain that love may bring, it will always be one of the main aspects of life. Earlier in the novel, Victor states, Elizabeth had caught the scarlet fever; but her illness was not severe, and she quickly recovered. During her confinement, many arguments had been urged to persuade my mother to refrain from attending upon her. (...), she could no longer debar herself from society, and entered her chamber longer debar herself from her society, and entered her chamber long before the danger of the infection was passed. The consequences of this imprudence were fatal (Shelley, 25). The mother was one of the first to show that the love of a guardian is one that should be cherished because the actions will show much louder than words. Caroline would not sleep knowing that her child was sick and the sickness could possibly kill her. The mother had soon gotten sick, but she was not as fortunate as Elizabeth. • 7. The Monster Figurative Language The lyrics to a song called The Monster by Eminem are different than the lyrics to any other rap that I have heard. This song is about the writers fame, and how he sometimes struggles and becomes angry at it. The speaker of The Monster is I , which we know is the author, Eminem. This means that the point of view of this poem is first person. In this song, Eminem is recounting events that are occurring. By looking at lines such as I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek and Hit the lottery, oh wee (next line:) But with what I gave up to get it was bittersweet , I figured out that the poem reveals that the speaker s character is a tad frustrated that fame caused him to give up some things that he loved. Eminem isn t exactly addressing a particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For one thing, I realized that this poem has no setting, and that there isn t a particular event. Then, I examined the figurative language of the song, and if there are any patterns. The Monster is mostly made up of figurative language, making it quite thought provoking. I noticed that it all refers back to his fame and his struggles. Basically, all of the figurative language is about the same topic. I also noticed that there are two main types that the author uses: idioms/expressions and similes. ...For wanting my cake I eat it too, and wanting it both ways is an example of an idiom used in the song. Going cuckoo and cooky as Kool Keith and Ironic cause I think I m getting so huge I need a shrink are only two of the many similes in The Monster. Thirdly in my deep analysis of this song, I determined the structure of this poem. I came to conclusions that every stanza has sixteen (16) line plus a (1) line leading into the chorus. So every stanza includes seventeen (17) lines. In addition, I determined that there is a lot of rhyming, but there seems to be no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a cabin keeper at Merritt Reservoir I had many bizarre encounters in a mere three month summer break. Imagine walking into the crammed bait shop on a crisp summer morning. You clock in for the day and gather all the supplies needed to get the job done. These supplies may range from the typical cleaning utensils such as rags and window cleaner, extra toilet paper and towels, Febreeze, and rubber gloves for sticky situations. However, you also must be sure to grab mousetraps, a bible, and a strange device that consists of a hook on a long wooden rod. You will soon learn what these items are for, and how handy they can be throughout the day ahead. The ongoing task of the day is to heave your massive cleaning cart up and down the slopping old concrete walkways leading to each cabin. This monster is convenient since it carries all of your items and you have them handy all at once, but can be a workout on a long day. When cleaning cabins, you do not have a set amount of hours to look forward to finishing. Every day, you are given a set amount of cabins, which can vary depending on how busy the lake is. You must complete that set amount throughout the day, regardless of how fast or slow you work. The first cabin of the day houses a family of 4 who must rarely rough it in the woods. They have requested every day this week to be the first to get cleaned out in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Contributing to all this violence and injustice, one would hope for the just calls of the police. Unfortunately the police in Central America is just as bad, and is referred to in the movie as the thieves with permits . The police is generally known not to help the immigrants or at least act judicially, but rather to assault them, stealing everything they own from them and beating and abusing them sometimes resulting in casualties. This is confirmed in the documentary by many immigrants and civilians in Mexico who have personally experienced the abuse and see no bright future for justice in their country. The police is also accused of being corrupt, so not much can be done against the situation and malpractices, also due to the unwillingness of the victims to file complaints and raise awareness. Most are unwilling out of fear of being deported back to their own country, this bringing us to the next issue, the Immigrations Department. In the book, Me Before You , written by Jojo Moyes, Will Traynor doesn t get to live the life that he wants to live. This life he wants to live is the one he had before the motorcycle accident, where had had become mostly paralyzed. Louisa, his caregiver, separated his depression a bit from him, but he still decided that he wanted to commit suicide because of both the physical and mental pain he is going through. In the book, Will explains to Louisa about his old self, with his memories and experiences. He recalls a time when he was in Paris, going through the cafés and the city square. Louisa mentioned her taking him to Paris, but Will described that he wants to go as his old self and not the person he is now because it causes too much pain. Ideology in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil Bennett and Royle in their textbook, Introduction to Literature, Criticism and Theory, define ideology as representing ... the imaginary relationship of individuals to their real conditions of existence (161). The ideology of self, of personal identity, is represented by a person s perception of what is acceptable in their society. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story, The Minister s Black Veil, the minister appears before his community with a black veil covering his face. Are you sure it is our parson? inquired Goodman Gray of the sexton. (Hawthorne 2 4) Accepted ideology is an ideology that is in itself not real, it is illusory and mutable. When the illusion is challenged, the ideology of self is challenged. By using words that depict the illusory ideology of the parishioners, and perhaps also mirror the illusory ideology of the reader, Hawthorne reinforces the idea that Ideology is constituted by images and fantasies (Bennett Royle 160). The sentences, He has changed himself into something awful... (Hawthorne 8) and The black veil...throws its influence over his whole person, and makes him ghostlike (Hawthorne 13) reinforce the illusory aspects of an established ideology. Bennett and Royle say, To become human, to identify oneself as a subject, then, is an effect of ideology (162). The parishioners cannot locate the minister beneath his veil as a subject they can only locate the veil as subject. The black veil, though it covers only our pastor s face, throws its influence over his whole person, and makes him ghostlike... (Hawthorne 14). • 13. Attrition Rate In Youth Sports It is amazing just how many children play sports in the United States of America. The number of our youth between the ages 5 18 years old that play, was over 36 million in 2016 (Seth). An alarming number, is that 70% of these children stop playing sports by the time they turn 13 years old. So why do so many children stop playing sports at this young age? How much higher could that 36 million plus number be? What, if anything, can be done to fix this? • 14. The Reality Of Reality Television Essay Reality television is now one of the most consumed television genres broadcasted to the general public. Reality television has become more about mindless watching and creating the most unrealistic environment possible, rather than creating a show for an important purpose. Today, shows like Beauty and the Geek, Big Brother, and every other reality show fit into this mold, but when viewed critically lessons appear. In the case of TV today, reality shows depict an altered reality because of the unrealistic situations this genre presents. Firstly, Beauty and the Geek claimed they conducted the ultimate social experiment, and yet is still considered as a show in the genre of reality TV. Since Beauty and the Geek subsisted as a social experiment, altered variables, such as the environment, influenced participants to conduct themselves in a different way than how they would behave on a regular basis in reaction to the stimuli the show provided. Contestants altered their behavior by sharing a bed with a stranger, and they acted friendly because they were now living with strangers in a home with cameras, so they felt they needed to impress. Beauty and the Geek is comparable to Big Brother because they were both filmed under altered conditions. For Big Brother specifically, the contestants participated under a much more controlled environment by being locked into a compound that was cut off from the rest of the outside world. This meant no TVs, phones, computers, etc., which makes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some Application of Calculus Calculus: Calculus (Latin, calculus, a small stone used for counting) is a branch of mathematics focused on limits, functions, derivatives, integrals, and infinite series. This subject constitutes a major part of modern mathematics education. It has two major branches, Differential Calculus and Integral Calculus, which are related by the fundamental theorem of calculus. Calculus is the study of change, in the same way that geometry is the study of shape and algebra is the study of operations and their application to solving equations. I will discuss the dialect, both geographical environment and social factors, and associates within through developing, using and changing an idiolect which constitutes part of a persona and self identity of these frameworks in relation to the type of information they seek: subject reality, life reality, and text reality. I argue that some analytical results, in particular content from academic journals, are insensitive to the interpretive nature of autobiographic data. Subsequently, I will talk about my idiolect that is a collection of features of vocabulary development through parent child directed speech, neighborhood and the Hawaiian Island Voices, textism behavior with school children and academic attainment, depression and its effect on language, and gaining identity through second language learning. • 29. Democracy And The Benefits Of Democracy The world is changing, and right now there is a great amount of tension between many of the countries. So how do we solve all of this tension? A democratic government protects the rights of its citizens creating a society where everyone works together to improve the country economically, politically and socially. Before one can begin to discuss the merits of democracy, one must first answer the question what is democracy? In his essay on democracy, Robert Dahl explains how democracy cannot exist without protecting the rights of its citizens. Democracy is more than a system of government, it is also a system of rights because rights are the essential building blocks of a democratic government (Dahl 100). Democracy builds off of the idea of human rights to create a system of government shaped around a collection of powers which belong to every citizen. Because rights provide the foundation for the democratic system, it cannot be practiced without providing a guarantee of personal rights. Cornel West illustrates how democracy is more than just a type of government, it is a way of life which benefits its citizens. Democracy is a cultural way of being which causes people to become empowered and enlightened (West 115 16). Democracy changes the way that its citizens think, in democratic societies the culture is based largely around how democracy is beneficial. • 30. Persuasive Essay On Drug Decriminalization Just Say No. This phrase was uttered in 1982 by Nancy Reagan, the first lady of the United States, in response to a schoolgirl s question of what she should do if offered drugs (Weinraub A5). These words became the slogan for a nationwide substance abuse prevention program that followed the then recently enacted drug policies intended to discourage the manufacture, sale, and use of illicit drugs in the United States. These zero tolerance policies carried harsh penalties and strict enforcement for all drug related offenses. Almost four decades later, these policies are still in effect, as is their focus on criminalization as a means to reduce the availability and usage of drugs. Their ineffectiveness is evidenced by the facts that drug use rates have remained steady over the past four decades and incarceration rates have exponentially rose during that same period. I believe that a new course of action should be taken, and a bold new drug policy should be enacted. Decriminalization would result in a substantial decrease of the prison population, relieve the unnecessary burden that has been placed on our criminal justice system, shift the paradigm from drug enforcement to drug treatment, reduce the health risk of HIV, AIDS, and heroin related deaths; and provide unprecedented benefits from the regulation of the manufacturing and sales of substances that are currently illegal. In the following two scenes it is possible to find many instances of the techniques which make this possible and to perceive more fully the connection between what we are shown and what this leads us to presume. In the first of the two scenes we witness the introduction of Cole and Dr Crowe in what appears to be a pre arranged visit. A vital part of convincing the audience of his existence is in creating the illusion of interaction between himself and others and in the opening of the scene, the body language of Cole s mother and Dr Crowe is used to suggest this. In medium shot, (often used to provide a ?blank sheet? for emotions), we see the two characters in profile. While Dr Crowe is calm and smiling slightly, Cole s mother holds her body angled away from him and has a tight, cold expression, giving a definite impression of tension. From this it appears that a conversation and more probably a disagreement has taken place between them, as a ghost he would be unable to do this, the audience would have no reason to suspect him at this point. The tension also allows us to presume that she looks away from him in order to avoid his gaze, rather than as a result of his invisibility. However, both here and when Cole enters the room medium close up shots and shots over the shoulder provide us with a view Dr Crowe s line of sight and of course it is only natural to assume that if his gaze was ...
