Anthony Burgess s novel, A Clockwork Orange, presents a struggle between animalistic urges and
mechanistic society by way of the motif of a clockwork orange. Many would agree that a clock and an

nature of an orange combined with the precision and mechanics of a clock curiously imitates the way

Frank s mother was forced to seek Relief, the Irish version of America s welfare system. She also
sought help from the Catholic and Protestant Church in feeding her family. The iron in the book was
that help was not given out without an accompanying sermon, in hopes of persuasion to join one or the
other. Mc Court depicts those in charge of the Relief system as being biased and unchristian type of

for themselves while their parents sought work. In an effort to keep their apartment heated throughout
an especially cold winter, the children tore apart the furniture, and when that was gone they began to

thought he had rented them a 4 room apartment when it was only a 3 room, not realizing they had torn

The industrial revolution was a time of invention, progress and opportunity. However, there was also a
darker side to it all. Rebecca Harding Davis, author of Life in the Iron Mills, tells the story of
ironworker Hugh Wolfe from a first person narrator s point of view. This unnamed narrator of an
unspecified gender is part of the more privileged class of society. This person resides in the house that
the two protagonists of the story, Hugh and Debora Wolfe, used to live in. The higher ups of this time
had one mindset: there were two worlds society consisted of. Those that had money and were
considered civilized , and the rest of the population, working tirelessly, hardly considered humans.
These upper class characters proposed this idea with a rational, persuasive manner. Davis purpose was
to show the reader how wrong this view was and expose the evils within the industrial society while
also promising a better future. I agree with her purpose, as today s society sees the industrial
revolution as a very important piece to today s modern world. This is true, and the industrial
revolution had a huge impact on how our world operates and functions today, but the darker side of
this time period, working conditions, and morality are generally never discussed. The story starts off

The issue of restrictions on voter rights, via registration restrains, or restrains is not a new issue when
looking back at the history of the United States of America. There have been a number of Supreme
Court cases that have dealt with laws that have attempted to hamper the ability of minority groups to
have their voices be heard at an equal volume. One example is the case, Baker V. Carr (1962). This
was about how the county lines, and therefor Congressional representation, was greatly skewed and

being struck down the most restrictive voting law North Carolina has seen since the era of Jim Crowe,

Delta Air Lines is a global airline, one of the largest worldwide. According to SkyTeam (2009), a
worldwide alliance management team of ten members, the founding member Delta serves about 928

15,955 plus daily flights...as well as, code sharing (airline networks consisting of selling tickets of a

In this paper, we will venture into the globalization of Delta Air Lines and understand if they are just a

Deception In Pudd Nhead Wilson
Following the conclusion of Pudd nhead Wilson, a novel written by Mark Twain in 1894, but taking
place in the 1850s, it is obvious that the book was inundated with a myriad of differing themes.
However, there is a theme that stands out in terms of being the most influential message conveyed by
Twain. This theme is that deception does not succeed, nor have favorable outcomes. I was able to
choose one specific scene from the novel that truly represents this theme. The scene that most
symbolizes the backfiring and disadvantages of deception is in the scene where Tom is sold down the
river. This scene is important because it accurately depicts the results of deception and epitomizes the

In my visual, I have included a backdrop consisting of the town in which he resides. Within the scene,
the houses and buildings are colored darker to represent the citizens negative feelings towards Tom.
Once sold, it can be properly inferred that no one was going to miss... Tom (Twain 78). This
disadvantage of the deceit in Pudd nhead Wilson was that Tom s personality developed for the worse.
This is evident in him being sold down the river as his actions and personality, being driven by greed
and a false lifestyle given by Roxy, tainted his reputation. His mistreatment of Chambers, his
gambling, or gaming debts, and drinking addiction, all stemmed from being an imposter; Roxy s
deception moved Tom in the wrong direction, making him an immoral person (Twain 38). In my

wrongdoings and the guilt that he carries as a result of his actions when he should have been a slave. If
