The Independence Of Puerto Rico
Introduction
The attempted assassination of President Truman was an indication that Puerto Ricans would use
any necessary means to gain independence. Puerto Rico has been a territory of the United States for
almost a century. The citizens of Puerto Rico have always had different views on whether they want
independence or greater autonomy. The following essay will focus on the commonwealth status of
Puerto Rico and the attempted assassination of President Truman.
The commonwealth status of Puerto Rico between the 1950 1952 was with limited autonomy since
the Island was still under the Sovereignty of the United States (Francesco, C. Eugene, 1999). The
United States annexed Puerto Rico following the end of the Spanish American War. For almost a
century Puerto Rico has been under the influence of the United States. The constitutional
convention of 1952 gave Puerto Rico the right to form a republican government.
The citizens of Puerto Rico were not satisfied with the current status. For instance, under the
commonwealth status, Puerto Ricans could not exercise their political rights. While they were
considered the United States citizens, they could participate in the voting exercise in the United
States. The Island has no representation in the Electoral College, which means that none of the
citizens can take part in the presidential elections. This was a major challenge for the Puerto
Ricans, who felt that there was a need for change. The Puerto Ricans were also not protected

Persuasive Essay About Censorship
For everything that needs to be said there are always these things that never should be (Witherbee).
This statement has rung true for many generations and for many reasons. Censorship helps solve
this problem within T.V. shows, art, media, internet, and advertisements. In the world today people
are easily offended and some people use information to their advantage. Despite what some people
might believe, there are people in America that can use uncensored information to hinder the
productivity of the country to benefit themselves or another country. Censorshipis necessary to
protect different groups and people. However, some things are unnecessarily censored such as
books. Books are the best educator because authors usually have something more to say than the
words on the page say. There are certain groups such as the Parents Against Bad Books in
Schools who only see the words and meanings that are on the page (Parents Against Bad Books
in Schools). For example, the book Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was banned from certain
schools because it said the word nigger in it (Witherbee). If the reader would have read the book s
entirety one would have discovered the anti slavery tone the book possesses. Books teach lessons
and they show readers that problems either need to be fixed or one needs to come up with a better
solution. Books can be a great way to introduce children to real world situations without putting
them in stressful or unstable situations.

Loss Of Masculinity In Hemingway s
Since Hemingway s is largely a simple writer, there really aren t that many symbols in the text.
The symbols that are apparent usually refer to one of the major themes of a loss of masculinity.
Jakes war wound acts as a symbol of how WWI took his masculinity. The war wound is implied to
have left Jake impotent, this symbolizes the taking of his manhood. During the war, Jake was
scarred by the traumatizing scenes of death and suffering, entering the war he expected a glorified,
heroic, experience. While the tragedy of the war remained unspoken and avoided, Jake felt he
couldn t openly explain his discomfort with WWI, because it made him feel less manly, which us
symbolized by the dysfunctionality of the exact body part that defines him as male.

Overpopulation In The United States
The United States population is growing at an alarming rate. Overpopulation is the condition
where the population is rising rapidly and the resources cannot support it. The growth rate in the
United States is approximately 2.2%. This means by 2050 the population could reach 438 million
people ( World Bank Group ) Many citizens do not see any danger of the population rise in the
United States. Unawareness might be the biggest factor in why they believe this; however,
overpopulationcan destroy the environment, including food and water sources, while also raising
unemployment rates and the risk of disease.
Overpopulation can damage or even destroy the environment. The need for resources will grow
with the population, but natural resources will not be produced at a fast enough pace. Man may
try to produce the resources they need themselves but will there be enough space? According to
Young the average person needs a minimum of 100 square feet to feel comfortable in a living
space ( How Much Space Do You Really Need? ). Using the estimated population size of 2050,
human living space will take up 43.8 billion square feet. Assuming most of these people live in
apartment buildings so there is room for farming. Farms will need to switch out crops every year
to slow down the process of soil degradation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Heart Of Darkness Women
Despite the fact that the women are marginalised and devalued by Marlow and the other men in
the text, they play an integral role in the story. Jeremy Hawthorne s writes it is salutary to recall
that three female characters each play an indispensable role in Heart of Darkness Marlow s aunt...
Kurtz s African mistress, and Kurt s intended. It is because of his aunt that Marlow lands his place
in the company. She views Marlow s involvement in Africa as a way to bring the natives
enlightenment about the Western world and Western ideologies, weaning those ignorant millions
[the Africans] from their horrid ways. She believes he will bring truth and light to a dark place in
the world. Interestingly, Marlow is highly critical towards his Aunt,

The Main Effects Of Poverty In Developed Countries
Poverty can be defined as the state of being inferior in quality or insufficient in amount. This is a
very serious issue that needs to be addressed or it will only get worse. A family where money is
not a problem or are well off might think that someone in poverty means they cannot afford items
such as clothes or a car, but that notion could not be more wrong. Povertyis being unable to keep
clothes on one s back and struggling to find food to get through the day. The average citizen of a
first world country might think that poverty is not affecting them or not important, but in reality,
poverty is a serious problem leading to crime, affecting the development of children and education
in less developed countries.
One of the biggest effects of poverty in less developed countries in the drastic increase in crime.
Direct relationships are evident with the amount of crime in areas in the world where poverty is
existent. In the minds of people dealing with extreme poverty, the item wanted or reward
outweighs the risk of being caught. With no money and the constant struggle for food and
clothes, people resort to robbery or theft to get what is essential in surviving even if that
enhances the risk of illegal activities. With poverty, comes a lack of jobs and increased rate of
unemployment resulting in people coming to a last resort, drugs. The selling and use of drugs is a
way of making some money while the rest of the country is suffering with poverty. Drugs becoming

5 x 36 = 180 Jeremy has 5 strips each is 36 in long so 5 x 36 = 180 The next thing we have to do is
find the perimeter of the small triangle that comes out to be 58 in. The rectangles are similar
so.. perimeter of big rectangles equals scale factor times perimeter of small rectangle equals
scale factor times 58 it results with 4.5. the perimeter of the big rectangle is 261. so now all we
do is use addition for the perimeters which is what gave you the total length then use subtraction
for 180 the answer comes out to be 139 Based off the picture I can assume that it will expand by the
factor of one over four then it s probably going to become 25 percent larger. Instead of TU crossing
the x axis at one it s going to be at 1.25. As far as the relationship i m not 100% positive if it s going

Food Is The Highest Sign Of Igbo Hospitality
Food is a main part of our daily life that brings our families together at least once a day to
reconnect. It does not only keep us alive and functioning, but it helps us to learn and immerse
ourselves into other cultures. Food can symbolize different things in a certain culture, such as a
holiday or a celebration of some sort. An example is that on Jewish Passover each of the foods
during the Seder meal have a specific meaning, and is eaten to help with the remembrance of certain
events in their cultural history. Food can also show different cultures customs and their perceptions
of what good manners are.
In the Igbo culture, food is mentioned quite often, especially around times of celebration. It brings
people together to share one common thing, their desire for delicious foods. The different food each
have different meanings. Igbo people use their food to show gratitude, hospitality, and to express
certain customs. For example, the Kola Nut is the highest sign of Igbo hospitality. But, receiving a
Kola Nut was only a privilege for the men of the village, not the women. They would first bless the
Kola Nut, then break it, and lastly distribute it. Another food that is mentioned quite a bit
throughout Things Fall Apart and that has quite a significance is Palm wine. Palm wine is mostly
mentioned whenever one of the main characters has someone inside their home, during times of
celebration, and also during the time after Ikemefuna s death. An example of when the palm wine

Rapunzel Alternate Ending
Yes I know mother. She said with a slight roll of the eyes and turned her head. Even if she wasn t
allowed outside around others people or even watch shows about those around her age. Rapunzel
was still a teenager and did what most teenagers did from time to time, she rolled her eyes and
often ignored what her mother was telling her. It was just part of being a teenager. Not to mention
Rapunzel wanted to forget about the procedure until the day it came to happen. It was her way of
dealing with the whole thing. I just don t like it mother, though I understand why I have to go
through with it. She stated with a slight nod of the head. Turning to look at her mother once
more. I know mother, I would also hate to get sick. She stated with a nod, a soft smile forming at
the corners of her lips. You d think by now that Rapunzel would realize that Gothel was only ever
really looking out for herself, but she didn t. Rapunzel still believed that Gothel was doing what
was best for her.
Hearing Gothel s question a laugh escaped her mouth, I d probably go mad. She stated with a
slight no of the head. The window was the only thing connecting her with the outside world, the
only thing keeping her of sound mind. Though if Rapunzel had grown up without the window she
most likely wouldn t know any different. Maybe she would even be asking about the outside
world, maybe she would have been frightened of it. The young blonde could never see herself
frightened by it, a small smile crossed her face as she stared at her mother.
Rapunzel noticed the shocked look that spread across Gothel s face when she mentioned wanting to
paint her. Her brow rose a little, her head tilted to the side. It was like her mother was hearing
something she d have never heard before. Though Rapunzel couldn t really blame here. If she
didn t know many people who could paint than that could be why she was so utterly shocked by
Rapunzel. Hearing Gothel s reply Rapunzel nodded her head in agreement with her. Gothel did
always seem to find away to make herself look stunning and beautiful all the time. Rapunzel often
wondered how she could do it. She never would believe that her bone marrow was the key to her
mother s youthfulness. That didn t stop her

Social Media and Collaboration
If we look back to the time times of the Dark Ages in Europe, cultural progression was stunted by
deadly diseases and economic disarray across the continent. It wasn t until the Renaissance, a
golden age of rebuilding in Europe, that ideas of change and and prosperity began to flourish.
This period of time saw huge advancements in science, art, and literature across the world. Today,
hundreds of years later, we are currently in a golden age led by social media. Names like
Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are the socio economic leaders of modern times, helping to
leading the charge of change. As a result, social media as a whole is a beneficial tool for human
communication and collaboration. In the 21st century, distance is no longer a limitation of
communication with family or friends. Social media can turn a thousand miles into a single
click. In fact, today the lines are clearly blurred because our online worlds [have become] an
extension of our offline lives (Pell). It is now possible to speak with entire networks of close
friends much faster than we ve ever been able to before (Brandzel). Sharing pictures of a vacation
in the Bahamas, speaking with potential business partners in China, or meeting a new date in
town, it s all possible now with social media. People s words and thoughts are limited only to the
speed of light traveling around Earth. Beyond its use just to communicate, the true potential of
social media shines with its ability to allow collaboration.

Miso Park Symbolism
Miso Park
It s my symbol and I ll cry if I want to
If enough writers use a given object or situation in enough works, we start to recognize and
understand the range of possible meanings (Foster 242)
пЃ¬Some symbols are very easy to detect (common)
пЃ¬Example: rain=sadness or fire=hope
In a situation where we encounter purely private symbols, there are some things we can fall back
on (Foster 245)
пЃ¬Some symbols are harder to detect
пЃ¬They are private , meaning that you need a deeper analysis to uncover what the symbol
represents
Use what you know (Foster 248)
пЃ¬What you learn from one book will also apply to future books as well
пЃ¬The only thing that can prepare you to read a certain book is to read the book
Every work teaches us how to read it as we go along (Foster 248)

Other literary example: In the Hunger Games, the Mockingjay pin seems to represent mocking jays
(hybrid between jabber jays and mockingbirds) or their home district, but in reality, it symbolizes
rebellion, and ultimately, Katniss herself; she becomes the Mockingjay.
Media/pop culture example: In Frozen, Elsa s gloves seem to be used to solely hide her magical
power to prevent hurting anyone but the deeper meaning is that the gloves represent Elsa s fear
of showing people who she really is because she is different than the others. Likewise, Hans uses
his gloves to mask his true evil self near the end of the movie, as he tries to kill Anna by leaving her

Persuasive Essay On How To Get A Driver s License
Getting my driver s license was a huge milestone in my life. There are a lot of steps to take in order
to earn a license. You need to be prepared to drive in a world where rules are an abstract concept,
and are rarely applied. Here is the process I went through to obtain my driver s license, and how I
barely achieved a goal that was very important to me.
Before I could even think about driving myself to school, I had to obtain a learner s permit for 6
months. Most teenagers earn their learner s permit at 15 and a half, their parents give them $365
to go to driving school for 2 weeks, and then they have their license at 16 years old. That was not
the case for me. My parents were not as supportive of me nor as excited as most parents would be
for their teenagers to get their driver s license. I was unable to earn my permit until I was 16.
When the long and torturous 6 months of me driving with my mother were finally over, I simply
asked my parents if they could financially help me out with driving school. They never had the
money for those kinds of things. That meant it was all up to me to be independent and get a job.
At seventeen years old I had enough money to take to the Springfield School of Driving and place
a deposit to start my classes. After I finished driving school, I was eager to schedule my driver s
exam.
August 22, 2017 was a rainy day. At the time, I had never even driven once in the rain. I was
unaware how to use both windshield wipers and headlights. This

An Integral Theory Of Consciousness Essay
An Integral Theory of Consciousness and RR Ken Wilber (1997) reviewed various dimensions of
the theories of consciousness in existing literature and proposes an integral theory that will
incorporate most of the prominent existing theories. The theory Wilber proposes is an Integral
Theory of Consciousness . Specifically, he reviews the cognitive science outlooks: introspectionism;
neuropsychology; individual psychotherapy; social psychology; clinical psychiatry; developmental
psychology; problematic medicine views, nonordinary states of consciousnessview; eastern and
contemplative tradition; quantum consciousness; subtle energies point of views on the
consciousness state and functions.
After the review, Wilber comes to the conclusion that, The interior dimensions of the human being
seem to be composed of a spectrum of consciousness (p. 10). The spectrum, in this instance, defines
conditions or values that vary infinitely within a continuum. In other words, there is a kind of
indefinite transformation, in terms of quality and volume of information between the initial state
and the goal state within the domain of consciousness. This conclusion by Wilbur has implication
on the complexity of the RR processes, as described by Vervaeke (2012). Furthermore, Vervaeke
even described the initial and the goal state as sometimes unknown within the system (Vervaeke,
2016). The important finding here is that the discovery of the Wilber agrees with the complexity

provide adequate medical and preventive care to my patients. If there are any available resources
outside of usual scope of curative and preventative medicine it is my duty to provide and suggest
any and all ideas. The proposed hypothesis of this paper is dietary supplements such as creatine

proper diet and exercise. This hypothesis was tested by the meticulous analysis and comparison of

The study population seems to cause controversial results. The more athletic/leaner the
individual ( professional athletes) the faster rate of your results than your everyday individual
who eats healthy and works out at least 3 times a week. Creatine supplementation seems to slope
quickly initially and then gradually peak (Bemben et al,2005). For instance in a creatine
supplementation study of collegiate football players versus red shirt collegiate football players,
the creatine supplemented red shirt collegiate football players had significant greater
improvements in strength and anaerobic power in comparison to the placebo and control group
(Bemben et al,2005). The collegiate football players who were active also showed significant
strength increases but not at the proportion of red shirted collegiate athletes (Bemben et al,2005).
The obvious discrepancy can be linked to that college experience of both groups (Bemben et
al,2005) or the possibility that the red shirt collegiate athletes had no prior creatine use (the study
reported no usage for at least 4 weeks). Another factor to take into consideration can be the dosage
of creatine supplementation especially for football players who have such a large body mass

Consumers
Consumers have the ability to change the companies verdicts and ideas, as the customers are the
vital aspect to sales. Topshop have to continuously research the customers desires and progress their
products to best suit their needs throughout the future. Topshops organisation have to monitor five
different key markets to adapt their products and services for the consumers. Topshop have to study:
Consumer markets, resellers, corporate markets, administration markets and worldwide markets. As
the consumers needs and wants are changing endlessly, the demand for Topshops research and

Suppliers
Topshops performance is evidently heavily impacted by the actions of the suppliers, whether this
is a strength or weakness for the company. The organisation has to repeatedly monitor the actions
of the suppliers, thus will enable them to be prepared for any surprises coming their way.
Topshops suppliers have an effect on their actions as, for example, if the supplier delivers a
reduced facility to the company, the delivery to the stores would be increased and the product
quality could be decreased. Topshop have to ensure a strong relationship bond with the suppliers to
enable a successful and more trustworthy service in which the company have.

1950 1960
During the 1950 s, the United States experienced great change with the end of World War II,
making it difficult to label the busy decade. America was the most powerful nation in the world
and it was a time of complacency. The United States accepted two new states, Hawaii and Alaska
(www.fifties.com). The science world boomed with new inventions; televisions broadcast
nationally; rock n roll was popular; commercial hotel and fast food chains became common; the car
industry exploded; vaccinations for measles and polio were discovered; and birth control pills were
introduced (Layman VII). Another event in the 1950 s was the ratification of the 21st Amendment,

America also had incredible weapons, so awesome that they could destroy civilization, military
leaders, and ultimately convinced other countries of their military superiority (Layman VII).
Although America was the dominant nation, other countries were contributing to America s growth
and success. In 1955, Israel requested military aid from the United States to counteract the Soviet
aid Egypt was receiving. This request confirmed just how powerful the United States military was
during the 1950 s era. Also, the reopening of Vienna State Opera House, after almost being
destroyed by bombs and shells in the war, symbolized how the world bounced back from a
devastating war (Layman 10). In addition to the Opera House reopening, fifty nine nations
contribute to the United States Trade Fair in New York. Many countries attempted to reach
agreements and come to understanding with one another (Layman 15). Another example of
attempted world peace was the Communist sponsored World Youth Festival in East Berlin. It
consisted of 500,000 youths from all over the world united to learn different cultures other than
their own. This portrayed the large American youth population getting involved with other countries
attempting to learn and accept other cultures (Layman 5).
During the 1950 s, all of Europe tried to recover from World War II. Germany separated into
Western and Eastern Germany. Eastern Germany was given to Russia. While

The Latin Wars
Introduction
At its height in 117 A.D., the Roman Empire was the largest political organization in the western
world, extending across Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East (Mark, 2011). What is
uncanny about this accomplishment are the numerous peoples and cultures that Rome gathered
together under her banner. In my discussion post for this unit I will discuss the importance of the
aftermath of the Latin Wars (340 338 B.C) specifically regarding Rome s treatment of the Latium
cities and how this set the precedence for her treatment of future subjugations and laid the
foundation for maintaining her vast empire (Toll, 2009).
Discussion
Early in Roman history around 340 B.C. Rome s strategic allies in Latium sensing her ambition
and tiring of Rome behaving as the de facto ruler of the region , demanded to be treated as equals,
not as territories of Rome (Toll, 2009). Furthermore, if their ... Show more content on

Subsequently, Rome scoffed at the demands of the Latins resulting in the Latin Wars which
concluded with the Romans victors (Morey, 1901).
It is at this moment in history when the Romans having learned from past endeavors engaged in a
brilliant strategy to incorporate the towns of Latium into the Roman political organization
(Forsythe, 2006, p.289 292). Rome s initial step was to breakup the Latin Confederacy, isolating
each of the towns in Latium with the knowledge that a united Latium would present a substantial
threat to Rome s power (Morey, 1901). Based on each Latin city s behavior and aggressiveness
during the war and on their level of compatibility, the Romans delegated certain rights and freedoms
to each city (Toll, 2009). Some of the towns were fully integrated in to the Roman political
organization with the populace of those towns being granted full Roman citizenship which
bestowed on them the right to trade with and marry other Roman

A Comparison Between Homer s The Odyssey And The Holy Bible
Is There a Correlation?
Homer s The Odyssey and The Holy Bible, are writings from the ancient civilizations! The
proximity regarding similar narratives between the two publications has produced curiosity in
inquiring minds. Interchangeable associations of both texts have prompted an investigation to
explain why this literary phenomenon has occurred.
In ancient Greece, Greek mythology began to emerge. Mythical narratives began to erupt for the
purpose of giving an explanation to certain social, religious, and environmental phenomena. Greek
chronicles included the gods/goddesses, heroes, and non human creatures.
Unlike Mythology, narratives of the Bible are actual events that took place dating back to the
beginning of time. The conception of The Holy Bible s compilation started thousands of years
ago in the land of Egypt. Initially, the Old Testament Scriptures were written in the Hebrew
language, however, they were later translated to the Greek. At the onset of the New Testament
writings, they were originally recorded in the Greek language. Forty men transcribed the voice of
God, which resulted in sixty six books of the Holy Bible. The Holy Scriptures explained the
creations, formation of the world, God, God s chosen people, sin, and the plan of salvation as well.
Homer s The Odyssey, is an epic poem of mythology which includes twenty four books. The
ancient writings focused its topics of discussions on the Trojan War, a hero named Odysseus, and
the challenges he faced

Pros And Cons Of Bitcoin Wallets
Bitcoin Wallets What are they and How Do they Work?
Do you need a digital Bitcoin wallet for your mobile device or desktop computer? To understand
what a Bitcoin Wallet is, you should first learn about the Bitcoin. It is defined as a digital currency
that is transacted virtually rather than tangibly. Bitcoin was founded in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto,
a mysterious entity that abandoned their venture in 2010. Bitcoin was the first currency to use
cryptography, and there is no match for it until now. Cryptography is all about encryption of data
and communication when being conveyed online to ensure maximum security.
So, what is a Bitcoin Wallet?
Assuming you have understood what the term Bitcoin means, now we will describe a Bitcoin

Many types of coin wallet exist. Each of these wallets has its own pros and cons that you need to be
aware of. These are:
1.Desktop computer wallets
These entail software that is downloaded from the internet and installed on a laptop or a desktop PC.
The desktop software offers the user total control over their coins, ensuring that they do not entrust
them to dishonest third parties.
Desktop wallets are seen as the most secure because they are less likely to be targeted by internet
hackers who would mostly attack a group of Bitcoin addresses to be able to steal many coins at
once. Having a desktop wallet does not guarantee complete security though. You have the
responsibility to protect your Bitcoins from anything that could compromise the security of your PC.
If you are running a full node, it means that you have downloaded the entire block chain on your
PC or laptop and are solely responsible for updating it so that you can reference it when
transacting. A node is described as a spot on a network. For instance, the node will be the desktop
computer for those choosing to use it. A full node isn t always fun to run

How to Plan a Family Vacation Essays
How to Plan a Family Vacation
A penny saved is a penny earned. A job worth doing is worth doing right. We apply both of these
sayings to the working world all of the time. Why not apply them to our vacationing world as
well? Like most people, I look forward to a vacation, but planning it can become overwhelming
if you re not prepared. Planning a vacation should be fun and exciting. Vacationing is not always
a priority to many families due to economic distress, but as little as a few hundred dollars you
can plan a weekend getaway that s inexpensive but a lot of fun! The best vacation my family ever

Consider your finances and what you re willing to spend. After deciding on what weekend you ll
be leaving, finding a place to stay is the next thing to plan. Most places fill up early. Make hotel, car
and other reservations as soon as you can. Quality and prices vary with each hotel. Some rates
are as low as $30 a night, while some rates are as high as $200 a night or more. Picking a room
that s not in a scenic area or without a view is usually cheaper. Each hotel offers different rates and
quality. More expensive places offer kitchenettes, suites, fireplaces, heated pools, and more. Search
online for coupon codes, AAA, AARP, Military or Government discounts. For the least expensive
trip, you could plan a camping trip in a state park, but for some that would mean a larger expense
of purchasing tents, sleeping bags and camping gear. Unless you re prepared for a camping trip,
plan to stay in a hotel or cabin.
Have a checklist prepared when packing for your trip. Know what the climate will be during the
times that you re there. Know what days or nights you ll need formal clothing, casual clothing, or
swimwear. Make sure that you pack so you re not buying needed things that you may already have
at home. Consider the amount of luggage you re taking in case you ll be flying. Pack things such
as moist towlettes, money, passports, medicine and sunglasses. Consider small children when
traveling as they become bored and wear out easily. Pack plenty

How Did Martin Luther King I Have A Dream Speech
Martin luther king is most greatly known for his I have a dream speech but there is much more
to Mr. Kings life than just that. King led many Civil rights movements since the mid 1950 s

Google s Effect On Our Brain Essay
Google s effect on our brain
In the July August 2008 Atlantic magazine, Nicholas Carr published Is Google Making Us Stupid?
(http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200807/google). In this article Nicolas Carr argues that the
internet is changing how one thinks, and how it is causing a bad effect on one s brain. I have to
disagree. Although the internet is constantly changing, it helps in a positive way. Firstly, google has
become a great resource for educational purposes. Secondly, the internet has become a great
resource for intercultural experiences. Due to the general population spending most of their time on
computer s and smart phones, this information is accessible to us whenever needed.
Carr s entire argument is how the internet is making the population weak minded, which is easily
clearly arguable with the resources available to us now. Some examples of resources are online
school, library databases, educational games, daily newspapers, and even books are now sold
online and school is being provided online to be more accessible to us. The hyperlinks that Carr
mentions in his article as we power browse (1), in fact the internet/google is more helpful in going
further into a subject being studied. For instance if someone is trying to research a sickness, the
search starts with google, entering the sickness which leads them to an article, possibly Wikipedia,

The Ideals And Goals Of Humanism During The Renaissance
The ideals and goals of humanism in the Renaissance period are apparent in different pieces of

knowledge that began in Italyspread to the north with the greater renewal of the interests of
classical antiquity, and this is what is known in history as the Renaissance. The period was

It activated the concept of an active life as opposed to the contemplated life. During the medieval
period, people were living in contemplation, but with the rebirth of knowledge, people were
obligated to take the active measure in making life worth living, while also taking care of other
social beings. The man in the renaissance perspective should promote the cultural life with positive
and active engagement with the public life. In doing so, human beings should seek and acquire
significant knowledge in different areas to make it great. The human person should check his or her
moral, military and political actions while undertaking the service to the state. While doing so, they
should take into consideration the individual achievements, personal aspiration and the breadth of

In conclusion, it is inferential that the Renaissance period gave a greater measure of attention to
human growth with proper significance to human action. More importantly, the human person was

the emphasis was on human positive interaction to make sure that people live harmoniously not

Allegory In Veidt s Watchmen Moore And Gibbons
In Watchmen, Moore and Gibbons have a few subplots branching off of the main story. One of
these subplots centers on a newsvendor in New York City. A boy sitting close by is reading a
pirate comic book, and as the story moves forward, various panels and pieces of text from this
comic interposed with the real storyline. In this passage of WatchmenMoore and Gibbons utilize
the gritty allegory of the Sea Captain in the Black Freighter to foreshadow the ending of the

tolerated before one is considered villainous? How many innocent civilians can one harm without
becoming the very monster being fought against? Moore and Gibbons were using the Watchmen
not as a case for the necessity for people to take justice upon themselves but to show the idea that
vigilantes are essentially destined to turn into the villains they fight against. The main story is the
example of the message contained within the Tales of the Black

Accounting in health care has profound effects on financial statements, and knowing the necessary
components to conducting financial reports and balancing the assets is vital. Many things
contribute to the overall foundation of the balance sheet and valuations for the health care
organization. A lot of moving parts are required to keep health care organizations running and afloat
for the long term. One must understand the accounting concepts, and methods, terminology, in
order to explain the various uses on how they apply to balance sheets. Valuing assets and Generally
Accepted Accounting Principles(GAAP) method is effective for the right valuation as they will be
explained in the following paragraphs.
Differences between Cash and Accrual Accounting
Cash accounting is a simple method which deals with revenue and expense within the health
care organization and personal uses. This method can easily apply to everyday people as several
people have a personal checkbook; they use to keep track of their expenses and depositing
money every so often. Using a checkbook is how we withdraw money for expenses which is one
standard way to pay for items. Cash basis accounting is also applied when reporting salaries for
physicians or registered nurses as an expense and this would allow no revenue of patients treated
by physicians until the following year when profits are collected. As good as method this is for
people, accountants strive for a better way to assess the organizations

It has been legal to carry a conceal weapon since 2013 when Illinois became the last state to allow

safe after it passed in 2013. According to a 2010 poll over 55% of our population felt less safe
when learning that it s legal to carry in public places.
You have to be a certain kind of person to be able to properly carry and operate without making it
obvious or having the risk of an accident. Some states are taking this to lightly. Georgia and
Maryland require no training before receiving their concealed permit. In Alaska, Arizona,
Wyoming and Vermont you don t need a permit to legally concealed carry. This should be taken

The type and invasiveness of the surgery depends on the problem. In most cases, shoulder surgery
will be conducted in one of the two major methods.
Arthroscopic surgery is less invasive with small incisions made to fix joint damage. The recovery
time is less with this option, getting a patient back to a normal daily routine in a faster manner.
Open surgery is often implemented in more severe cases where the orthopedic surgeon needs a
better view of the damaged area. Open surgery has a longer healing and recovery process.
Under some circumstances, physical therapy may also be prescribed after surgery. Physical therapy
will help regain strength and flexibility in the shoulder area.
In Fountain Valley, Dr. Howard Marans can guide a potential new patient through all the various

The Dumbest Generation The Dumbest Generation
A few years ago, I decided to learn sign language. It was not a project for a class, a requirement to
graduate, or a fact that everyone knew. I just wanted to learn sign language, so I did what many
twenty first century millennials do and downloaded an app. The app showed me diagrams to learn
basic phrases, videos to perfect the movements, and lessons to learn more efficiently. The
technology of the app made learningsign language easy, and I could use it wherever I went. I
thought that I was smart for using technology to learn specific things, but Mark Bauerlein, the
author of a 2008 book called The Dumbest Generation, would disagree. According to Bauerlein,
twenty first century teenagers possess low knowledgelevels when compared to past generations
because of the increased use of technology. However, Bauerlein is mistaken. This generation is not
the dumbest generation because we focus on different topics, we write more often, and we know
that every generation has been called the dumbest . Every generation is different, and the
information that is commonly learned in each generation is affected by the events surrounding that
time period. As stated in The Dumbest Generation? Don t Be Dumbarticle written by Sharon

The Irish Declaration Of Independence
The cartoon above is called The Irish Declaration of Independence that We Are Familiar With
published in 1883 by Frederick Burr Opper. Opper is regarded as one of the pioneers of American
newspaper comic strips, best known for his comic strip Happy Hooligan. His comic characters
were featured in magazine gag cartoons, covers, political cartoons and comic strips for six decades.
The magazinethis cartoonis featured in was called Puck Magazine. Puck Magazine was America s
first successful humor magazine, which is to say it was long lived (1876 1918), influential, and
quite prosperous. It published three large color cartoons in each issue, which for the first ten years
or so were all political in nature. Later they were increasingly purely comic or illustrative. At Puck s
height, the cartoons were among the country s most important political pronouncements of the
week. In addition to that, Puck played a critical role in the evolution of American humor, moving
the art from its tall tales and dialect laden roots toward the more urbane and literary humor
associated with magazines like the New Yorker.
While this cartoon is based in America the prejudice against Irish natives and immigrants had long
been in issue. Over the centuries Ireland has dealt with conquerors, loss of culture, poverty, hunger
and political strife. The emerald isle was entirely conquered and colonized by the British in the
second part of the sixteenth century. After the colonization Ireland s inhabitants

According to the book Celebrity Politics, approximately 10 percent of Americans get national
political news from nightly entertainment shows such as the Tonight Show. For Americans under

The most notable case of a politician using celebrity endorsers is that of former President Ronald
Reagan, a former B list actor himself. Some of his supporters in 1980 included James Cagney, Zsa
Zsa Gabor, and Hoagy Carmichael (West and Orman 38).
The growing connection between politics and Hollywood has happened for a number of reasons, in
a somewhat cyclical fashion. Politicians need Hollywood stars to support their campaigns because
celebrities are useful in fundraising attempts and recognition. They have the advantages of fame,
wealth, and can easily command press attention. In return, celebrities endorse candidates whose
policies are beneficial to their industry. For example, while Clinton was in office he argued for
industry self regulation and a television rating system, as opposed to formal government regulation
(Ormand and West 38). For this and other reasons, Hollywood stars donated large sums of money
to Democratic candidates in return. In 2000, Hollywood contributed $20 million to Democrats as
opposed to the $13 million that was contributed to the less Hollywood friendly Republican party
(Ormand and West 40).
This is the new celebritized (Combs 123) political culture in which advocacy organizations must
function. Because the media is so inundated with celebrity

The Medieval Era
Tyler Sun December 14, 2014 Prof. Sparks HUMN 220 Chartres Cathedral The Medieval Era
was one with explosive cultural and architectural growth across almost all of Europe. One of the
places that experienced this the most was in France. With all of the radical changes happening
in France, there was a huge emphasis on religion and as a result the Chartres Cathedral was
created. The town of Chartres officially became a bishopric in the 4th century, and as with any
bishopric the cathedral was the most awesome and large building in the city. Everything was
built around this massive cathedral; the local shops, fairs, and other commodities of city life.
Not only was this building a testament to the creative ability of the architects, it was a location
for holy pilgrimage. According to tradition, Chartres Cathedral has housed the tunic of the
Virgin Mary since 876. The relic was said to have been given to the cathedral by Charlemagne,
who received it as a gift during a trip to Jerusalem. Because of this relic, Chartres has been a very
important pilgrimage center and the faithful still come from all over the world over to honor it.
The present cathedral is one of several French Gothic masterpieces built because fire had
destroyed its predecessors. The town itself was already a destination for holy pilgrimages,
however on a significantly smaller scale pre production. Before the Chartres Cathedral was built
and the tunic of the Virgin Mary was placed there, it was believed that there

Persuasive Essay On Voting In America

Mr. Bare

AP Gov.
Voting in America According to past studies done, only roughly 55% of registered voters actually
vote. the other 45% may have just not wanted to vote, or they may have not been able to for
multiple reasons. Ever since America was founded, there have always opticals put up intentionally
to restrict voting without clearly stating that they are restricting voting. If America claims that we
are a democracy , which according to the dictionary is a system of government by the whole
population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives , then
America should make it easier to vote so all citizens can be included in the choices of our country.
Ways to make this possible is by fixing the voter ID laws, create automatic registration, and change

The first major law passed to restrict voting was created in 1889. This is the year that the
country passed to make a poll tax. This meant that anyone who wanted to vote had to pay a tax
when they went to vote. This was mostly to keep black people from voting, as well as the poor
white people. Thankfully people realized that this was not right, and it was abolished in 1964
under the court case of Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections. The most recent restrictive voting law
is Voter ID Laws. These are put into place by individual states, starting as far back as 1977 in the
states of Georgia and Florida. These laws state that in order for a person to vote, they must show
proof of Identity such as a driver s license, a gun/ hunters license, a birth certificate, social security

Christopher Columbus And The Era Of The Americas
Many people think of Christopher Columbus as the person who discovered the Americas.
However, Leif Ericson, a Norseman or Viking, was the first European to see the Americas.
Columbus was born to Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarossa sometime between
August 25 and October 31, 1451 in Italy near Genoa (Heat Moon 4). Columbus had four other
siblings (Phillips 64). Columbus childhood was a tough one, even though he had a great parental
guidance. Columbus grew up in a medieval world exhausted by war and bigotries, religious
corruption and intolerance, a time of widespread spiritual dissolution and social pessimism, a
continent deeply in need of a rebirth (Heat Moon 5). The era of which Columbus lived in was
really in need of a make over. The way people acted, their decisions, and the changes in their
religion were not acceptable to any standard. That time period was very boring and depressing
and it was difficult to be happy. Christopher spent some of his early years at his father s trade of
weaving and later he became a sailor on the Mediterranean [Sea] ( Christopher Columbus). By the
time he was 31 or 32, Christopher had become a master mariner in the Portuguese Merchant
Service ( Christopher Columbus ). Later in life, Columbus had married DoГ±a Felipa Perestrello o

was granted the finance needed to complete the voyage from Spain ( Christopher Columbus ). He

Rousseau is known for his first book, A Discourse on the Sciences and Arts, about his

that humans are all good even though some don t show it. Jean Jacques Rousseaus philosophies

individuals who tax the system and slow down response times. Recently, many state government
officials began to propose community paramedicprograms where patients can be evaluated and even

A Research Study Conducted By The National Center For...
In 2012, a research study conducted by the National Center for Educational Statistics revealed that
only 73% of students entering high school will graduate (Mazer, 2012, para. 1). For those students
who achieve graduation, and continue on at the collegiate level, the study further revealed that only
57% or slightly more than half will earn Bachelor s Degrees, and 18% will leave college academics
completely (Mazer, 2012, para. 1). Most laypersons, outside of academics, would probably conclude
that these statistics are acceptable and reflective of a healthy educational system. Unfortunately, the
statistics reveal a serious problem existing in the teacher learner relationship. Although teacher and
learner both share culpability in the problems associated with the teacher learner relationship, and
other environmental and academic risk factors contribute to the problem, negative emotions
associated with learning, including lack of interest, are the primary reasons why students disengage
from coursework and either fail, or withdraw from school (Mazer, 2012). Hence, the paradox of
how to create interest in students still remains.
The 2012 study suggests that teachers can generate interest in the student through teacher
behaviors, thus, students who experienced intensified emotional interest in a subject were proven
to be drawn in by the teacher s own energized behavior and emotional interest in the subject (Mazer,

40% of infections reported by acute care hospitals. Up to 80% of UTIs are associated with the
presence of an indwelling urinary catheter. Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs)
represent the largest proportion of healthcare associated infections (HAI). Catheterassociated
urinary tract infection (CAUTI) increases hospital cost and is associated with increased morbidity
and mortality .CAUTIs are considered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to
represent a reasonably preventable complication of hospitalization. As such, no additional payment
is provided to hospitals for CAUTI treatment related costs.CAUTIs can lead to... Show more

Not maintaining a sterile technique during insertion and closed drainage system after insertion.
4.The drainage bag of the bacteriuric patient is a reservoir for organisms that may contaminate the
environment and be transmitted to other patients. 5.Outbreaks of infection with resistant gram
negative organisms attributable to bacteriuria in catheterized patients have also been reported.
PREVENTION
1.Limiting catheter use and, when a catheter is indicated, minimizing the duration the catheter
remains in situ are primary strategies for CAUTI prevention.
2.Ensure that only trained, dedicated personnel insert urinary catheters.
3.Implement a system for documenting the following information in the patient record: indications
for catheter insertion, date and time of catheter insertion, individual who inserted catheter, and date
and time of catheter removal
a.Include documentation in nursing flow sheet, nursing notes, or physician orders. Documentation
should be accessible in the patient record and recorded in a standard format for data collection and
quality improvement purposes.
4.Ensure that there are sufficient trained personnel and technology resources to support
surveillance of catheter use and outcomes.
5.Educate healthcare personnel involved in the insertion, care and maintenance of urinary catheters
about CAUTI prevention, including alternatives to indwelling catheters and procedures for catheter
insertion, management, and removal.

Comparison Of Freud And Jentsch s Concept Of The Uncanny
In 1919, Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, published his own psychological
investigation on the notion of uncanny. Previous studies were conducted on this subject by the
German psychologist Ernst Anton Jentsch, and served as the starting point for Freud s analysis.
However, the feeling of uncanny was not an easy concept to identify. Jentsch concluded that it
fits in the area of the fear of the unfamiliar and intellectual uncertainty. Freud, with some
opposition to Jentsch s investigation, took it further from what Jentsch concluded. Freud
theorizes that the uncanny is that class of terrifying which leads back to something long
known to us, once very unfamiliar. (Freud, 1) Coraline by Neil Gaiman as well Harry Potter by
J.K Rowling include examples of both Freud and Jentsch s concept of the uncanny .
Firstly, the etymology of the word uncanny is informative. In English, its etymology is
straightforward. The meaning of the word is like the antithesis of heimlich...meaning familiar ,
native , belonging to home . (Freud, 2) To be canny is to be good at dealing with things.
Contrary to canny, uncanny are things which we can not comprehend or believe. To us humans,
many things are frightening, yet familiar: spiders, snakes, height, failure, loss of loved ones,
driving, etc. These are not uncanny because we understand loss, discomfort, and death. When we
are faced with these situations we know why we are frightened, but that

The Discourse Of Shakespeare s Hamlet ( Rough Draft )
The Discourse of Dance in Shakespeare s Hamlet (Rough Draft)
Alan Brissenden, a noted dance critic and Shakespearean scholar, asserts that when Shakespeare
uses dance it always contributes to plot, character, or imagery, and sometimes to all of these at one
time ( Jacobean 249). In the comedies, dance is used in the first few acts of the play to create an
atmosphere of dramatic irony: dance, in its fundamental purpose in the Elizabethan and Jacobean
theater was to create a sense of harmony and goodwill; when paired with the plot of a tragedy,
dance stands in stark contrast to the discord of the final acts. Dance, therefore, makes a
dramatically relevant comment on the action to follow (Shakespeare 75). Though extensively
covered by academic discourse, little research has been conducted concerning the use of dance and
dance imagery in Hamlet. Shakespeare uses the discourse of dance and clowning to define Hamlet
s character. Dance does not inform the action, but rather informs the inaction. It defines Hamlet s
state of mind and his lack of desire to escape his melancholy. Dance is a means through which he
criticizes others, criticism which draws these characters into his own madness.
During the Early Modern period, dance had many uses; it was considered a form of medicine, a
sign of religious exaltation, and a social necessity. Dance was a popular form of exercise and
hygiene, keeping the humors in balance and promoting good health much like hunting, walking,

Eng 225 Week 3 Final Film Critique Outline
The Elephant Man English 225 Introduction To Film 11/3/2012 I chose to critique the film The
Elephant Man it is an iconic filmmaking endeavor. Director David Lynch shows the sadness and
the scariness of deformities onto the audience in a way that touches your heart and leaves you
with a sense of sadness and will also leave a tear in your eye. Most of the people who have watched
this film are touched and completely changes the way they view crippled, weak, and deformed
people in this world. The start of this film begins with Joseph Merrick s incredible story being
written into a play by Bernard Pomerance in 1979. This play is actually still performed from time
to time and a wonderful play to see. Lynch s film version was released... Show more content on

Merrick was found lying down in this manner when he was discovered the next day. Because of
the peaceful state of his body it is supposed that he chose his death in this manner. Although the
scene lacks evidence, Lynch stays true to at least what is known and believed. Lynch also gives
a final grace and dignity to the character of John Merrick which allows the film to end in a way
that is touchingly appropriate. As Merrick s proprietor, Freddie Jones plays a ruthless menace
and desperate part of man his greedy and delights in the suffering and controlling of those
weaker than himself. Michael Elphick plays a horrible night porter who orchestrates an
excruciating scene of humiliation in Merrick s hospital room in which Merrick is put on display
naked before paying onlookers. Anne Bancroft as Treves wife, provides the needed compassion
as she shows Merrick kindness in the face of a lifetime of women screaming at his physical
ugliness. The supporting cast deliver spot on performance that give validity and weight to the
plot. Today, The Elephant Man remains a highly acclaimed film and emotional masterpiece.
Expertly directed, written, and performed, with an old style cinematography and classical music,
the film can be seen as a return to the days of black white film. The emphasis on character and
acting skill was an original move by Lynch during a time when special

Synthesize Piracetamm
It is unclear when or how the discovery of plants or fruits had the potential to alter the moods or
minds as there are evidence from over 10,000 years ago. At that time, ancient man discovered that
certain plants promote changes in thinking and perception of reality. Also, throughout the years,
many countries from all around the world have different nootropic like substance. For example, the
Chinese have a plant known as Ginkgo Biloba that can enhance cognitive function in people with
cognitive problems and Indians have herbs known as Ayurvedic adaptogens to relieve stress. It is
not until recently that nootropics were created to enhance thoughts, memory, and mental
improvements. The nootropic revolution began in the 1960 s with the development... Show more

sedation, motor stimulation) and possess very few side effects and extremely low toxicity. In
1960, Timothy Leary, an American psychologist, and the Belgium company Union chimique belge
(UCB) tried to synthesize Piracetam from the racetams family. It was supposed to serve as a
calming supplement and sleep inducer. Unfortunately, they did not manage to succeed as no such
effects have been noticed. It was Dr. Giurgea, the chief neuropharmacologist at UCB that managed
to successfully synthesize Piracetam in 1964. The supplement was a great success and was
marketed in Europe in 1971. After the successful synthesis, studies on Piracetam were done from
all around the world to focus on specific aspects such as to improve memories and the
neuroprotection on patients with the Alzheimer s disease. These studies expanded to other
racetams such as Aniracetam and Oxiracetam. Aniracetam was developed by Hoffman La Roche in
1970 s which contributes to the neurotransmission by activating the Acetylcholine receptors.
Oxiracetam was developed in 1993. Its main goal is to improve the capacity to process
information. Racetams were revolutionary because there are no side effects and they combine both

Katharine s Comfort Theory For Adult Open Heart Surgery...
Applying Katharine Kolcaba s Comfort Theory to Adult Open Heart Surgery Patients
Cynthia Heibler
University of Cincinnati
April 12, 2017 AbstractThe leading cause of death in the United States according to the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of 2014, is heart disease ( Leading causes of
death , 2017). The use of open heart surgery in eligible patients, such as coronary artery bypass
grafting (CABG) or a cardiac valve replacement are two surgical ways to extend the life of those
living with heart disease. The recovery phase for these surgeries is crucial for the recuperation and
future health of the patient. Dietary modification, exercise and personal health habits need to be
adjusted to be conducive to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three types of comfort are defined as (a) relief comfort the state of having a specific comfort
need met ; (b) ease comfort the state of calm or contentment ; and (c) transcendence comfort the
state in which one can rise above problems or pain (Kolcaba, 2003).
All of the dimensions of comfort must be met by the patient, the family and healthcare provider to
enable healing or peaceful death, return to previous health state and promote health seeking
behaviors (HSB). Concerning the adult open heart surgery patient, achieving comfort in the form of
relief, ease and transcendence is important for early ambulation, coughing and deep breathing, for
participating in physical therapy and performing health promoting behaviors such as dietary
changes or smoking cessation.
State of Science
An in depth review of the nursing literature was completed to establish the state of science in
reference to providing comfort to the postoperative patient after open heart surgery. PubMed,
CINAHL and Google Scholar were utilized to complete the investigation using search terms such as

manner, they aren t connected or linked with one another but looking at the bigger picture, you
realize that they are connected in a much less considerable way. Except the further I go into both
of their readings, the larger the effort I put into struggling with their problems, the more I
distinguish the weak trail of a connection here, a minor commonality there; the more I break the
ideas and become aware of the nearly unnoticeable thread of a relation connecting these two
apparently unequal ideas. Ultimately, this doesn t denote that I can plainly write anything or
declare any relation among both of them. It still requires rationalizing my creativity as well as
my vision, spot the verifications and evidence to completely shore up my hypothesis. In the end,
if I am adequately troubled and engaged, a case can perhaps be ready for several kinds of
comparative analysis between Heidegger and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wittgenstein states: Philosophy must not interfere in any way with the actual use of language, so it
can in the end only describe it. For it cannot justify it either. It leaves everything as it is
(Philosophical Investigations В§124). The same goes for Heidegger when he states this about what
philosophy is; To let what shows itself to be seen from itself, just as it shows itself from itself
(Being and Time p.58) It is essential to argue Heidegger s concepts of everydayness and worldliness,
and Wittgenstein s notion of phenomenological representation and language, which is most plainly
demonstrated in his separation between description and explanation. Undoubtedly, there is not a
full similarity, there is no direct correspondence, but the connections that do appear to be there are
to some extent exciting and at the same time

  • 2. The Independence Of Puerto Rico Introduction The attempted assassination of President Truman was an indication that Puerto Ricans would use any necessary means to gain independence. Puerto Rico has been a territory of the United States for almost a century. The citizens of Puerto Rico have always had different views on whether they want independence or greater autonomy. The following essay will focus on the commonwealth status of Puerto Rico and the attempted assassination of President Truman. The commonwealth status of Puerto Rico between the 1950 1952 was with limited autonomy since the Island was still under the Sovereignty of the United States (Francesco, C. Eugene, 1999). The United States annexed Puerto Rico following the end of the Spanish American War. For almost a century Puerto Rico has been under the influence of the United States. The constitutional convention of 1952 gave Puerto Rico the right to form a republican government. The citizens of Puerto Rico were not satisfied with the current status. For instance, under the commonwealth status, Puerto Ricans could not exercise their political rights. While they were considered the United States citizens, they could participate in the voting exercise in the United States. The Island has no representation in the Electoral College, which means that none of the citizens can take part in the presidential elections. This was a major challenge for the Puerto Ricans, who felt that there was a need for change. The Puerto Ricans were also not protected ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Persuasive Essay About Censorship For everything that needs to be said there are always these things that never should be (Witherbee). This statement has rung true for many generations and for many reasons. Censorship helps solve this problem within T.V. shows, art, media, internet, and advertisements. In the world today people are easily offended and some people use information to their advantage. Despite what some people might believe, there are people in America that can use uncensored information to hinder the productivity of the country to benefit themselves or another country. Censorshipis necessary to protect different groups and people. However, some things are unnecessarily censored such as books. Books are the best educator because authors usually have something more to say than the words on the page say. There are certain groups such as the Parents Against Bad Books in Schools who only see the words and meanings that are on the page (Parents Against Bad Books in Schools). For example, the book Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was banned from certain schools because it said the word nigger in it (Witherbee). If the reader would have read the book s entirety one would have discovered the anti slavery tone the book possesses. Books teach lessons and they show readers that problems either need to be fixed or one needs to come up with a better solution. Books can be a great way to introduce children to real world situations without putting them in stressful or unstable situations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Loss Of Masculinity In Hemingway s Since Hemingway s is largely a simple writer, there really aren t that many symbols in the text. The symbols that are apparent usually refer to one of the major themes of a loss of masculinity. Jakes war wound acts as a symbol of how WWI took his masculinity. The war wound is implied to have left Jake impotent, this symbolizes the taking of his manhood. During the war, Jake was scarred by the traumatizing scenes of death and suffering, entering the war he expected a glorified, heroic, experience. While the tragedy of the war remained unspoken and avoided, Jake felt he couldn t openly explain his discomfort with WWI, because it made him feel less manly, which us symbolized by the dysfunctionality of the exact body part that defines him as male. ... • 5. Overpopulation In The United States The United States population is growing at an alarming rate. Overpopulation is the condition where the population is rising rapidly and the resources cannot support it. The growth rate in the United States is approximately 2.2%. This means by 2050 the population could reach 438 million people ( World Bank Group ) Many citizens do not see any danger of the population rise in the United States. Unawareness might be the biggest factor in why they believe this; however, overpopulationcan destroy the environment, including food and water sources, while also raising unemployment rates and the risk of disease. Overpopulation can damage or even destroy the environment. The need for resources will grow with the population, but natural resources will not be produced at a fast enough pace. Man may try to produce the resources they need themselves but will there be enough space? According to Young the average person needs a minimum of 100 square feet to feel comfortable in a living space ( How Much Space Do You Really Need? ). Using the estimated population size of 2050, human living space will take up 43.8 billion square feet. Assuming most of these people live in apartment buildings so there is room for farming. Jeremy Hawthorne s writes it is salutary to recall that three female characters each play an indispensable role in Heart of Darkness Marlow s aunt... Kurtz s African mistress, and Kurt s intended. It is because of his aunt that Marlow lands his place in the company. • 7. The Main Effects Of Poverty In Developed Countries Poverty can be defined as the state of being inferior in quality or insufficient in amount. This is a very serious issue that needs to be addressed or it will only get worse. A family where money is not a problem or are well off might think that someone in poverty means they cannot afford items such as clothes or a car, but that notion could not be more wrong. Povertyis being unable to keep clothes on one s back and struggling to find food to get through the day. The average citizen of a first world country might think that poverty is not affecting them or not important, but in reality, poverty is a serious problem leading to crime, affecting the development of children and education in less developed countries. One of the biggest effects of poverty in less developed countries in the drastic increase in crime. Direct relationships are evident with the amount of crime in areas in the world where poverty is existent. In the minds of people dealing with extreme poverty, the item wanted or reward outweighs the risk of being caught. With no money and the constant struggle for food and clothes, people resort to robbery or theft to get what is essential in surviving even if that enhances the risk of illegal activities. With poverty, comes a lack of jobs and increased rate of unemployment resulting in people coming to a last resort, drugs. The selling and use of drugs is a way of making some money while the rest of the country is suffering with poverty. Drugs becoming more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Food Is The Highest Sign Of Igbo Hospitality Food is a main part of our daily life that brings our families together at least once a day to reconnect. It does not only keep us alive and functioning, but it helps us to learn and immerse ourselves into other cultures. Food can symbolize different things in a certain culture, such as a holiday or a celebration of some sort. An example is that on Jewish Passover each of the foods during the Seder meal have a specific meaning, and is eaten to help with the remembrance of certain events in their cultural history. Food can also show different cultures customs and their perceptions of what good manners are. In the Igbo culture, food is mentioned quite often, especially around times of celebration. It brings people together to share one common thing, their desire for delicious foods. The different food each have different meanings. Igbo people use their food to show gratitude, hospitality, and to express certain customs. For example, the Kola Nut is the highest sign of Igbo hospitality. But, receiving a Kola Nut was only a privilege for the men of the village, not the women. They would first bless the Kola Nut, then break it, and lastly distribute it. Another food that is mentioned quite a bit throughout Things Fall Apart and that has quite a significance is Palm wine. Palm wine is mostly mentioned whenever one of the main characters has someone inside their home, during times of celebration, and also during the time after Ikemefuna s death. Hearing Gothel s question a laugh escaped her mouth, I d probably go mad. She stated with a slight no of the head. The window was the only thing connecting her with the outside world, the only thing keeping her of sound mind. Though if Rapunzel had grown up without the window she most likely wouldn t know any different. Maybe she would even be asking about the outside world, maybe she would have been frightened of it. The young blonde could never see herself frightened by it, a small smile crossed her face as she stared at her mother. Rapunzel noticed the shocked look that spread across Gothel s face when she mentioned wanting to paint her. Her brow rose a little, her head tilted to the side. It was like her mother was hearing something she d have never heard before. Though Rapunzel couldn t really blame here. If she didn t know many people who could paint than that could be why she was so utterly shocked by Rapunzel. Hearing Gothel s reply Rapunzel nodded her head in agreement with her. As a result, social media as a whole is a beneficial tool for human communication and collaboration. In the 21st century, distance is no longer a limitation of communication with family or friends. Social media can turn a thousand miles into a single click. In fact, today the lines are clearly blurred because our online worlds [have become] an extension of our offline lives (Pell). • 13. Persuasive Essay On How To Get A Driver s License Getting my driver s license was a huge milestone in my life. There are a lot of steps to take in order to earn a license. You need to be prepared to drive in a world where rules are an abstract concept, and are rarely applied. Here is the process I went through to obtain my driver s license, and how I barely achieved a goal that was very important to me. Before I could even think about driving myself to school, I had to obtain a learner s permit for 6 months. Most teenagers earn their learner s permit at 15 and a half, their parents give them $365 to go to driving school for 2 weeks, and then they have their license at 16 years old. That was not the case for me. My parents were not as supportive of me nor as excited as most parents would be for their teenagers to get their driver s license. I was unable to earn my permit until I was 16. When the long and torturous 6 months of me driving with my mother were finally over, I simply asked my parents if they could financially help me out with driving school. They never had the money for those kinds of things. That meant it was all up to me to be independent and get a job. At seventeen years old I had enough money to take to the Springfield School of Driving and place a deposit to start my classes. After I finished driving school, I was eager to schedule my driver s exam. August 22, 2017 was a rainy day. At the time, I had never even driven once in the rain. An Integral Theory Of Consciousness Essay An Integral Theory of Consciousness and RR Ken Wilber (1997) reviewed various dimensions of the theories of consciousness in existing literature and proposes an integral theory that will incorporate most of the prominent existing theories. The theory Wilber proposes is an Integral Theory of Consciousness . Specifically, he reviews the cognitive science outlooks: introspectionism; neuropsychology; individual psychotherapy; social psychology; clinical psychiatry; developmental psychology; problematic medicine views, nonordinary states of consciousnessview; eastern and contemplative tradition; quantum consciousness; subtle energies point of views on the consciousness state and functions. After the review, Wilber comes to the conclusion that, The interior dimensions of the human being seem to be composed of a spectrum of consciousness (p. 10). The spectrum, in this instance, defines conditions or values that vary infinitely within a continuum. In other words, there is a kind of indefinite transformation, in terms of quality and volume of information between the initial state and the goal state within the domain of consciousness. This conclusion by Wilbur has implication on the complexity of the RR processes, as described by Vervaeke (2012). Furthermore, Vervaeke even described the initial and the goal state as sometimes unknown within the system (Vervaeke, 2016). The Latin Wars Introduction At its height in 117 A.D., the Roman Empire was the largest political organization in the western world, extending across Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East (Mark, 2011). What is uncanny about this accomplishment are the numerous peoples and cultures that Rome gathered together under her banner. In my discussion post for this unit I will discuss the importance of the aftermath of the Latin Wars (340 338 B.C) specifically regarding Rome s treatment of the Latium cities and how this set the precedence for her treatment of future subjugations and laid the foundation for maintaining her vast empire (Toll, 2009). Discussion Early in Roman history around 340 B.C. • 21. A Comparison Between Homer s The Odyssey And The Holy Bible Is There a Correlation? Homer s The Odyssey and The Holy Bible, are writings from the ancient civilizations! The proximity regarding similar narratives between the two publications has produced curiosity in inquiring minds. Interchangeable associations of both texts have prompted an investigation to explain why this literary phenomenon has occurred. In ancient Greece, Greek mythology began to emerge. Mythical narratives began to erupt for the purpose of giving an explanation to certain social, religious, and environmental phenomena. Greek chronicles included the gods/goddesses, heroes, and non human creatures. Unlike Mythology, narratives of the Bible are actual events that took place dating back to the beginning of time. The conception of The Holy Bible s compilation started thousands of years ago in the land of Egypt. Initially, the Old Testament Scriptures were written in the Hebrew language, however, they were later translated to the Greek. At the onset of the New Testament writings, they were originally recorded in the Greek language. Forty men transcribed the voice of God, which resulted in sixty six books of the Holy Bible. The Holy Scriptures explained the creations, formation of the world, God, God s chosen people, sin, and the plan of salvation as well. (http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200807/google). In this article Nicolas Carr argues that the internet is changing how one thinks, and how it is causing a bad effect on one s brain. I have to disagree. Although the internet is constantly changing, it helps in a positive way. Firstly, google has become a great resource for educational purposes. Secondly, the internet has become a great resource for intercultural experiences. Due to the general population spending most of their time on computer s and smart phones, this information is accessible to us whenever needed. Carr s entire argument is how the internet is making the population weak minded, which is easily clearly arguable with the resources available to us now. Some examples of resources are online school, library databases, educational games, daily newspapers, and even books are now sold online and school is being provided online to be more accessible to us. In addition to that, Puck played a critical role in the evolution of American humor, moving the art from its tall tales and dialect laden roots toward the more urbane and literary humor associated with magazines like the New Yorker. One of the places that experienced this the most was in France. With all of the radical changes happening in France, there was a huge emphasis on religion and as a result the Chartres Cathedral was created. The town of Chartres officially became a bishopric in the 4th century, and as with any bishopric the cathedral was the most awesome and large building in the city. Everything was built around this massive cathedral; the local shops, fairs, and other commodities of city life. Not only was this building a testament to the creative ability of the architects, it was a location for holy pilgrimage. According to tradition, Chartres Cathedral has housed the tunic of the Virgin Mary since 876. The relic was said to have been given to the cathedral by Charlemagne, who received it as a gift during a trip to Jerusalem. • 44. Comparison Of Freud And Jentsch s Concept Of The Uncanny In 1919, Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, published his own psychological investigation on the notion of uncanny. Previous studies were conducted on this subject by the German psychologist Ernst Anton Jentsch, and served as the starting point for Freud s analysis. However, the feeling of uncanny was not an easy concept to identify. Jentsch concluded that it fits in the area of the fear of the unfamiliar and intellectual uncertainty. Freud, with some opposition to Jentsch s investigation, took it further from what Jentsch concluded. Freud theorizes that the uncanny is that class of terrifying which leads back to something long known to us, once very unfamiliar. (Freud, 1) Coraline by Neil Gaiman as well Harry Potter by J.K Rowling include examples of both Freud and Jentsch s concept of the uncanny . Firstly, the etymology of the word uncanny is informative. In English, its etymology is straightforward. The meaning of the word is like the antithesis of heimlich...meaning familiar , native , belonging to home . (Freud, 2) To be canny is to be good at dealing with things. Contrary to canny, uncanny are things which we can not comprehend or believe. To us humans, many things are frightening, yet familiar: spiders, snakes, height, failure, loss of loved ones, driving, etc. These are not uncanny because we understand loss, discomfort, and death. When we are faced with these situations we know why we are frightened, but that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Discourse Of Shakespeare s Hamlet ( Rough Draft ) The Discourse of Dance in Shakespeare s Hamlet (Rough Draft) Alan Brissenden, a noted dance critic and Shakespearean scholar, asserts that when Shakespeare uses dance it always contributes to plot, character, or imagery, and sometimes to all of these at one time ( Jacobean 249). In the comedies, dance is used in the first few acts of the play to create an atmosphere of dramatic irony: dance, in its fundamental purpose in the Elizabethan and Jacobean theater was to create a sense of harmony and goodwill; when paired with the plot of a tragedy, dance stands in stark contrast to the discord of the final acts. Dance, therefore, makes a dramatically relevant comment on the action to follow (Shakespeare 75). Though extensively covered by academic discourse, little research has been conducted concerning the use of dance and dance imagery in Hamlet. Shakespeare uses the discourse of dance and clowning to define Hamlet s character. Dance does not inform the action, but rather informs the inaction. It defines Hamlet s state of mind and his lack of desire to escape his melancholy. Dance is a means through which he criticizes others, criticism which draws these characters into his own madness. During the Early Modern period, dance had many uses; it was considered a form of medicine, a sign of religious exaltation, and a social necessity. Dance was a popular form of exercise and hygiene, keeping the humors in balance and promoting good health much like hunting, walking, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Director David Lynch shows the sadness and the scariness of deformities onto the audience in a way that touches your heart and leaves you with a sense of sadness and will also leave a tear in your eye. Most of the people who have watched this film are touched and completely changes the way they view crippled, weak, and deformed people in this world. The start of this film begins with Joseph Merrick s incredible story being written into a play by Bernard Pomerance in 1979. This play is actually still performed from time to time and a wonderful play to see. Lynch s film version was released... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Merrick was found lying down in this manner when he was discovered the next day. Because of the peaceful state of his body it is supposed that he chose his death in this manner. Although the scene lacks evidence, Lynch stays true to at least what is known and believed. Lynch also gives a final grace and dignity to the character of John Merrick which allows the film to end in a way that is touchingly appropriate. As Merrick s proprietor, Freddie Jones plays a ruthless menace and desperate part of man his greedy and delights in the suffering and controlling of those weaker than himself. Michael Elphick plays a horrible night porter who orchestrates an excruciating scene of humiliation in Merrick s hospital room in which Merrick is put on display naked before paying onlookers. Anne Bancroft as Treves wife, provides the needed compassion as she shows Merrick kindness in the face of a lifetime of women screaming at his physical ugliness. The supporting cast deliver spot on performance that give validity and weight to the plot. Today, The Elephant Man remains a highly acclaimed film and emotional masterpiece. Expertly directed, written, and performed, with an old style cinematography and classical music, the film can be seen as a return to the days of black white film. The emphasis on character and acting skill was an original move by Lynch during a time when special ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was Dr. Giurgea, the chief neuropharmacologist at UCB that managed to successfully synthesize Piracetam in 1964. The supplement was a great success and was marketed in Europe in 1971. After the successful synthesis, studies on Piracetam were done from all around the world to focus on specific aspects such as to improve memories and the neuroprotection on patients with the Alzheimer s disease. Similarities Between Heidegger And Wittgenstei manner, they aren t connected or linked with one another but looking at the bigger picture, you realize that they are connected in a much less considerable way. Except the further I go into both of their readings, the larger the effort I put into struggling with their problems, the more I distinguish the weak trail of a connection here, a minor commonality there; the more I break the ideas and become aware of the nearly unnoticeable thread of a relation connecting these two apparently unequal ideas. Ultimately, this doesn t denote that I can plainly write anything or declare any relation among both of them. It still requires rationalizing my creativity as well as my vision, spot the verifications and evidence to completely shore up my hypothesis. In the end, if I am adequately troubled and engaged, a case can perhaps be ready for several kinds of comparative analysis between Heidegger and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wittgenstein states: Philosophy must not interfere in any way with the actual use of language, so it can in the end only describe it. For it cannot justify it either. It leaves everything as it is (Philosophical Investigations В§124). The same goes for Heidegger when he states this about what philosophy is; To let what shows itself to be seen from itself, just as it shows itself from itself (Being and Time p.58) It is essential to argue Heidegger s concepts of everydayness and worldliness, and Wittgenstein s notion of phenomenological representation and language, which is most plainly demonstrated in his separation between description and explanation. Undoubtedly, there is not a full similarity, there is no direct correspondence, but the connections that do appear to be there are to some extent exciting and at the same time ...
