The Scarlet Letter Essay examples
In The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne analyzes Hester, Dimmesdale, and Chillingworth. In the story,
Hester is the main character of the story and was called Mistress Prynne (Hawthorne 70).
Dimmesdale, in the story was referred to as Reverend Dimmesdale (Hawthorne 90). Chillingworth
was originally named, Roger Prynne but later in the story he changed his name to Roger
Chillingworth. In the story, Hester committed adultery with Dimmesdale against Chillingworth and in
the beginning she got punished and sent to prison and later she got to get out of prison but with the
exception of having to wear the letter A on her breast every time she went out in to town.

Hester is named for the biblical Queen Esther (Gartner).
In the book, law may not be single handedly govern extramarital sex that is evidenced by Hester
having extramarital sex despite strict bans (Tamkang). The A on the breast of Hester is made of a
symbol to be made use of (Tamkang). Hester Prynne was victimized of committing adultery
(Tamkang). Hester Prynne, when she was convicted of extramarital sex, is brought before a tribunal
that could have given her a death sentence if they had not given her special consideration (Tamkang).
In the story, Hester is condemned to stand on the platform of the pillory for three hours, and thereafter
to wear on her bosom a scarlet letter (Tamkang).
Hester was forced to marry Roger Chillingworth, but she did not love him. She fell in love with Arthur
Dimmesdale and slept with him behind Chillingworth s back (Hawthorne 69). Hester Prynne was felt
as if she was not loved by Chillingworth, so she decided to start seeing the priest Arthur Dimmesdale.
Hester and Dimmesdale are not the types of shame and secrets (Howells). In Hester s endurance of
punishment there is publicity but not confession (Howells). The tragedy of the story is Hester Prynne s
personality (Howells). She dominates by virtue and is womanly and typical her (Howells). The A
keeps Hester away but hardly equips her with

The Conquest Of Hawaii Essay
Before reading this article it never occurred to me that Hawaii wasn t always a part of the United
States. Hawaii was always just one of those locations I knew existed, but seemed a lot like a fantasy.
After reading this document, my eyes were opened to how this land was stripped away from the
natives that once called it home. This theft of land all began when Captain James Cook first arrived on
the island on January 19, 1778. Cook first arrived in the Hawaiian Islands on 19 January 1778. He as
in command of two ships the Resolution and the Discovery ( The Conquest of Hawaii, 1). Though
Cook and his men s tragic end seemed to be the end of foreign contact with Hawaii, it was not. Before
long, foreigners came to Hawaii for its sandalwood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prominent leader within the community, Ka ahumanu, converted Christianity and aided these
missionaries. ... Ka ahumanu became a Christian in 1825... Eventually, though, she passed a code of
law based on the Ten Commandments, and the missionaries were well on their way to becoming a
strong influence in Hawaiian politics. Their idea was to educate Hawaiians, transform Hawaii into a
constitutional monarchy while acting as advisors to the monarchy along the way and get rich in the
process... ( The Conquest of Hawaii, 2). Before long, after the death of Ka ahumanu, who had helped
these foreigners gain a foot hold in Hawaii, Kamehameha III, the next chief in line, had signed a
constitution which allowed Hawaiian speaking whites to manipulate the young king and make ground
towards seizing Hawaii. With [the 64 page constitution], the white Hawaiian speaking advisors of
Kamehameha III took the first legal step to gain control of Hawaiian land ( The Conquest of Hawaii,
2). After this fatal error of Kamehamedha II, whaling began to become prominent in Hawaii. With the
non native whales came whalers who used local native Hawaiian women as sexual pawns. With
sickness, prostitution, and poverty at a high, Hawaii was in a terrible

Compare and contrast the two main figures of the European...
Napoleon s tragedy was that his ambitions surpassed his capacities; Bismarck s tragedy was that his
capacities exceeded his society s ability to absorb them. The legacy Napoleon left for France was
strategic paralysis; the legacy the Bismarck left for Germany was unassimilable greatness (statement
made by Henry Kissinger) is in my opinion a correct statement. This statement can actually be
separated into two parts. The first parts relates with the capacities, ambitions and successes of
Bismarck and Napoleon. The second part is about the final result of their reign and how their reigns
could be taken over after such changing of Europe.
Bismarck main objective was to bring together the German states and to form a powerful great

He wanted to create division in Europe, therefore he created crisis here and there, but couldn t control
the outcomes afterwards! Time and again, he would encourage a crisis now in Italy, now in Poland,
later in Germany only to recoil before its ultimate consequence (P.107 Kissinger) or Napoleon made
himself the prisoner of crisis he had himself engineered (P.107 Kissinger). Those crises would finally
result in Italy and Germany as Unification and new difficulties for Napoleon to cope with. His foreign
affaires always came out to be failures and to finally work against him.
Napoleon destroyed by many ways all the other alliances that were made between France and other
great powers, by supporting conflicts that wouldn t even benefit France. He supported the Italians in
the war against Austria, this laid to Italian Unification which made one more power to deal with
afterwards. He finally concluded an armistice with Austria ... without informing his Piedmontese allies
(P.111 Kissinger), creating hatred among the Italians towards his country. Austria was considered by
Napoleon as repugnant , therefore he wouldn t try to collaborate with them: As a Bonaparte,
[Napoleon 3] never felt comfortable cooperating with Austria, whatever raison d etat might dictate
(P.110 Kissinger). Napoleon lost the sympathy of Great Britain by annexing territory and by being
repeatedly annoying. Napoleon alienated Great Britain by annexing Savoy

Significant Change In The Giver
Significant Change #1:
Jonas, The Giver and Gade has birthmarks on their right wrists.
Explanation of Effect:
The Filmmaker s choice to change the light eyes to a birthmarks, because the movie started out in
black and white. So the birthmarks helps the audience tell who can see beyond and who couldn t. For
instance, in the movie Jonas saw the birthmarks on Gade s wrist just like The Giver and himself. In the
book Jonas said Gabe has the same color eyes. This affects the audience by making them confuse that
they would change the eyes.

Cults Of Personality Cult
The Problem with Personality Cults
What effects if any do cults of personalities have on a culture and society? When we think of cults, we
usually tend to think of a group who all follow one specific belief or leader. According to Webster s
Dictionary, a cult of personality is a situation in which a public figure (such as a political leader) is
deliberately presented to the people of a country as a great person who should be admired and loved.
Of course, there are many problems that may arise in this situation, one being that cults of
personalities are a threat to a culture s freedom because they directly target democracies and can
extinguish a society s liberties by elevating one person to such a point that they become god like in the
eyes of their followers.
Cults of personality can be anything from mass worship to strong political support of a leader.
Charisma is crucial for leaders and an important tool in uniting a following. Usually these leaders are
very active and bubbly and act very interested in their follower s ... Show more content on

Questions On Global Development Of Papua New Guinea, By...
1. The Overarching questions about global development that Professor Jared Diamond wished to
answer were as follows: How did Europeans develop advantages in the first place?, Why did the world
ever become so unequal?, What separates the haves from the have nots?, and How have guns, germs,
and steel shaped the history of the world? He was prompted to begin exploring these issues when he
was visiting Papua New Guinea. He enjoys bird watching and began going to Papua New Guinea
when he was twenty six. He began making regular trips there since then. On one of these trips he met
a man on the beach named Yali, and Yali asked him Why you white man have so much cargo and we
New Guineans have so little? This threw Diamond for a loop and from that moment on he began
researching and trying to find an answer to Yali s question.
2. Diamond makes a statement in the documentary in which he says The power of Europeans rests on
geography. When he comes to this conclusion he addresses many reasons as to why this is true. The
first being the specific geography of people in Papua New Guinea compared to people of Eurasia in
the Stone Age period. The people of Papua New Guinea are isolated on an island that is dense with
jungle and is wet. In Papua New Guinea there are limited resources for hunting and very limited
sources of nutritious food. The main source of food for New Guineans is sago. Sago is stripped from
the sago trees that grow in the jungles and even though it is edible it

Example Of A Rhetorical Essay Examples
Throughout my rhetorical proposal Social Horrors , I developed an argument that the abuse of social
media and texting admittedly has adverse effects on physiological development for children. After I
supported this argument with factual guidelines and relevant statistics, I then formed a proposal to try
and solve this issue for the parents in my audience; Particularly, parents that are raising young children
and minors. In order to create a well structured proposal and argument to achieve the purpose of
limiting screen time for children and young minors in the beginning stages psychological adolescence,
I used admonitory diction, testimonial experience, as well as relevant credible sourcing. Within the
introduction and conclusion, I take an admonitory tone and use admonitory diction in order to
influence my audience. In the introduction, I create a call to action atmosphere by stating I address all

the overall proposal and take account of everything. Even more so, when I give claims about the
potential health issues that can affect my audience s children, I cite pediatric publications and the
American Academy of Pediatricians to support my claims. If pediatricians didn t back my claims, I

Feminist Synthesis
By essentialism, Barry refers to the pure essence of the feminine which is assumed through Cixous
concept of écriture feminine (128). This idea is one which identifies femininity as a given entity which
is somehow just mysteriously there in a singular form, thus denying its existence as a social construct
that is shaped and conditioned in unique ways across different cultures (128). Cixous presents it as
impregnable to any form of conditioning, therefore characterizing the writing s syntax with spirit that
naturally emanates due to one s physical existence as a woman (128). These overarching
generalizations ultimately limit women to a very narrow identity category, consequently granting the
ability to critique the concept s

The twenty five years old female star of Twilight movies likes men and women as well. Last summer,
her mother confirmed that Kristen was dating Alicia Cargile, a visual effects producer and coordinator.
Before that, from 2009 to 2013, Stewart was in love with the now twenty nine years old Robert
Pattinson, her partner from the vampire movie (until she cheated on him with Rupert Sanders, the
director of Snow White and the Huntsman).
Kristen has a new partner, but it s a woman again
Some tabloids have brought to light that the relationship of Kristen Stewart and Alicia Cargile was
over, but the actress has chosen a woman to be her love again. Stéphanie Sokolinski, known as Soko,
is a singer and actress living in the USA, but working in her homeland, France too. One can know her

she was only a voice over).

How often have you attended an event and found that you were totally overwhelmed and under
prepared? I see it happen all the time and it makes my heart sink because, seriously, those are missed
opportunities that you will never get back.
There are many large, and valuable, events scheduled around North America (and the world, for that
matter) that are a gold mine of opportunity when it comes to learning and networking. Attending these
events is one of the best ways to grow your business and develop valuable and meaningful contacts,
too.
I like to be prepared before arriving at these events whether they are the large, once a year type, or
whether they are regular local networking opportunities. I know that, for many entrepreneurs, you just
don t know what you don t know. I want to share some of my best tips for seizing the opportunity and
really getting the best return on investment possible.
1. First and foremost, create a plan for the year and decide which events you will be attending and
why. There are so very many choices

Comparing Disney And Disney s The Frog Prince And The Frog...
The Frog Prince vs. The Princess and The Frog Disney s The Princess and The Frog is based on the
original story The Frog Prince written by the Grimm brothers in 1812. There have been many books
and movies inspired by the original The Frog Prince, each being different in their own way. The name
is a common difference between the original and newer versions of the story, usually modern versions
are named The Princess and The Frog like Disney s adaptation. Even though Disney s The Princess
and The Frog and the original The Frog Prince are the same story, they have notable differences and
very few similarities; the setting, her status, the story line, and the moral. The Frog Prince begins
telling how the princess very often spent her spare time at a well near her castle where she would play
catch with her golden ball. One day while she was playing catch, she accidentally threw her golden
ball into the well. As she cried about her golden ball a frog offered to help her as long as she made a
promise, but if you would love me, and have me for your companion and play fellow, and let me sit by
you at table, and eat from your plate, and drink from your cup, and sleep in your little bed if you
would promise all this, then would I dive below the water and fetch you your golden ball again.
(Grimm) Even the princess agreed, she left after the frog retrieved her golden ball for her. The day
after meeting the frog, she sat, eating at her dinner table only to be interrupted by

Conformity In Ken Kesey s One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
Merriam Webster defines conformity as action in accordance with some specified standard or
authority . As it is a type of influence that involves change in belief or behavior in order to fit into a
group. Where in Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, conformity is a matter of life or
death. In the novel and in life, conformity is viewed as an easy way to shape into society s mold.
Societal expectations are shaped by the so called Combine a mysterious and in the dark figure that is
view as the puppeteer of the way society functions. In the Novel, Chief Bromden a long time patient at
a psychiatric ward is the first to recognize the Combine and its powers. At the same time that this
novel was written, the society of the 1950s was being challenged by a group known as the beat
generation who wanted to reject and challenge the stringent norms that the majority deemed as
appropriate and necessary. While many members of society supported the beliefs of conformity, in
many ways the need for societal misfits was vital to secure a community where all people would have
a voice. While many did their best to challenge the Combine, in the end the Combine would prevail,
but the ideas of those who spoke out would resonate with others. The Combine is an unstoppable force
fueled by conformity, but Ken Kesey explains that the only way for progress in the novel (and society)
is for a McMurphy type of character to challenge the Combine.
In the 1950s, there was this prevalent

The night of November 7th 2000 put a flawed aspect of American democracy at the forefront of the
world stage. The election to the office of the leader of the free world, the Presidency of the United
States of America was in question. How could a candidate receive more votes and still lose in the
richest most powerful democracy in the world? I need not to go into a debate about the Electoral
College as my stance will be clarified rather clearly. The night of the election it seemed as if the Vice
President and candidate for the Democratic Party was poised for a close victor. As the polls closed
along the eastern seaboard, exit polling information indicated a clear, but narrow lead for the Vice
President as he still need to secure Florida and two states totaling 15 electoral votes or more to win the
Presidency (Toobin, 18). At 7:49 EST, NBC called Florida and the election for Gore, and so did 2 of
the 4 major television networks did the same in the following minutes. As the night continued Gore

Casa Valentina By Harvey Fierstein
Casa Valentina by Harvey Fierstein. The play certainly was not what I expected once I saw it live.
Before going to see it and writing this paper, I decided to do some research on both of the plays to see
if I could get a better understanding of them. As a result, I decided on Casa Valentina because it was
about a topic that I was unfamiliar with. The play is set in the early 1960s when men would go to the
Catskill Mountains and escape. But escape what? In this play, they would escape being men. Seeing
the photographic oddness of men being dressed in little neat dresses has always been a source of
comedy and a favorite in theatre. This play is no different. The play was also a huge success, being
nominated for multiple awards, including four Tony s and winning other awards. With this in mind, I
thought I was ready to view the play. What the playwright was trying to say about life is that everyone
is different. It raised universal questions of who am I? What is my identity? To what are the
differences in gender identity and sexual orientation? It truly posed some fascinating questions about
these identities. It even provoked the question of what ensues in matrimony when one of the partners
begins to represent both genders. What happens? Is one simply cut off? Is there room for them both? It
brings out the central conflict of illusion versus reality in my eyes. This is because these are grown
adult men, married with a spouse of the opposite sex. Yet in spite of all this,

Conrad in Under Western Eyes outlines the Russian Revolution. However, readers can further their
knowledge on the topics in the book. During the 19th century, Russia was ruled by autocrats, or czars,
who ruled with absolute power. Their individual philosophies affected the history and culture of the
vast empire (Merri et al.). The first ruler of Russia at this time was Alexander I. He came to power in
1801 during the Napoleonic Wars, between France and shifting alliances of other European powers (
Alexander I ). However, he died and Decembrist revolts followed as people argued of his successor
(Merri et al.). His brother, Czar Nicholas, then will come into power. However, the Russians revolt
against him because of harsh treatment and his constant want for more power. This forms a
revolutionary movement. He tried to conserve his power by restricting education so that revolutionary
ideas would not spread (Merri et al.). These are events for the story behind Under Western Eyes. The
book demonstrates not just the revolution, but regular Russian who rely on the revolutionaries to
achieve a complete change in the government and form a new outlook on life (Russian Revolution of
1917). There are starving young men in Russia who believe in you (Peter Ivanovitch, a revolutionist)
so much that it seems the only thing that keeps them alive is their misery (Conrad 217). Truly there are

The Emergence Of Nationalism In The Nineteenth Century
Introduction: Nationalism is the most potent factor conducting in the political ground. In the
nineteenth century it was almost universally accepted as a injunction for religion. Though in the
middle age religious view had prominent influence but in the first half of 16th century more emphasis
was given to geographic and national unity and field of national sovereign state was established. At
that time strong central national government was established in England, French, Spain. French
revolution has been considered the first emergence of nationalism. On the other hand Renaissance and
Protestant reformation movement significant role in the rise of European nationalism. Machiavelli
believed that the uniformity of tradition, language and law are the main element of nationalism
(Ayesuddin,1976, in bengali). Besides these it is also necessary to understand clearly the implication
of the trend of nationalist movement. The recorded history of Bangladesh is found from around the
first century of the Christian era. Until the coming of muslims in the early 13th century the region was
ruled by the Hindu and Buddhist kings. The muslim rule in Bangladesh began early in the 13th
century and continued until the coming of East India Company. It had been seen a seat of political
influence in the history of south Asia, especially 19th and 20th centuries. All major freedom
movements against the British rule and Sipahi Bidroha in 1857, was the first counterblasts against

Symbolism in Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan Boyle, is the story of a group of adolescents, searching for the one
situation that will proclaim them as bad boys and how their minds change. As the story begins, the
narrator gives the impression that he feels he and the others boys should have taken notice of some
obvious clues about themselves. These clues would have led them to the conclusion that they were far
from the bad guys they wished to be. However, the oblivious teenagers ignore these obvious signs and
continue in search of their goal.
In this story, Boyle uses many symbols to create the theme. The individual vehicles are each symbols
in the portion of the story that they appear. For example, early in the story, the narrator ... Show more

you wish for, you just might get it.

On the receiving end, the demodulator works by detecting one or both of the frequencies, often with a
band pass filter, regenerating the input signal. You can also use a signal processor to convert the
carrier from time domain to frequency domain with a fourier transform, and then pick off the signal
that way.) The FSK method of modulating/demodulation is typically limited to low frequency signal
rates, such as 300 bits per second
1.2.2: FSK DEMODULATION:
FSK demodulation is the process of recovering the original signal by detecting the frequencies
involved in the original modulation. Typically, this is done with a bandpass amplifier tuned to one of
the two frequencies, followed by a amplitude demodulator. The output is the original signal. It is
possible, though often unecessary, to use two bandpass ampliers, one for each frequency, but this is
redundant. It is also possible to use a digital signal processing technique to perform a fourier transform
on the input signal, but that can be complex and costly.
This is the method used in very early modems, up to around 1200 baud.
It is also possible, using FSK, to send multiple signals across one line. Simply pick suitable
frequencies for each modulation state, and mix the outputs into one consolidated analog signal. On the
other end, you have multiple bandpass filters running at the same time and, as long as the chosen
frequencies are

Advantages And Differences Between Free Weights And Free...
Strength training is excellent for developing different muscle groups, and there are plenty of machines
that will aid you in your fitness regimen. You need to make comparisons between using exercise
machines and free weights. Both have its advantages and disadvantages and the purpose of comparing
is to weigh which one meets your fitness needs the best.
The latest construction of free weights is widely available in the form of barbells and dumbbells.
Many dumbbells are single weight, one piece items. Some are designed similarly with barbells. It has
a bar on the center and the weights are removable. Thus, it gives you the option to change weights.
This is less expensive, however time consuming. You need to replace weights for every exercise. ...

Physical exercise, mainly aerobic physical exercise, is an excellent strategy to enhance your power.
Aerobic workout lets you preserve an elevated heart rate by performing a series of moderate workouts
for an extended time frame (15 20 minutes). Aerobic exercising may be as complicated as a complete
routine or as straight forward as swinging your arms at your sides something that gets your heart rate
up and keeps it there for at the least 20 minutes.

Tillie Olsen s Yonnondio Essay
Tillie Olsen s Yonnondio
In contrast to many other Depression era novels, in which the teamwork of the common man is seen as
society s glue, Tillie Olsen s Yonnondio looks with great admiration at one family s struggle to keep
above water. Through the travails of a coal mining/farming family, Anna Holbrook becomes the one
constant in a society that turns man against himself, and where fortune is evanescent.
The thirst for something stable is evident as the children show their awe of the physical world. As an
adult explains the stars to Mazie, Olsen writes: As his words misted into the night and disappeared,
she scarcely listened‹only the aura over them of timelessness, of vastness, of eternal things that had ...

With his comment, Olsen shows how the two worlds, country and city, are fundamentally separated.
This is further emphasized when the teacher scolds Mazie: Perhaps you indulged in rough play of this
nature where you come from, but we do not permit it here, nor does it go unpunished. (50 1)
The lack of cooperation between men is shown as Jim s young, single work partner quits in protest of
unfair conditions. Jim is keeps his fury silent: Alright for him to talk, alright with nothing more
important to worry about than getting canned up and stepping out a floosieŠhe couldn t see what was
really around and he believed the bull about freedomofopportunityŠand something about pursuit of
happiness. (62) Olsen s condensation of the maxims of our country shows their value as clichés and
their disconnection with the Holbrooks. The proper method living lies with the ants Erina observes:
Watch the little antsŠDont hurt their houses. They have to hurry and work so hard and carry heavy
things and I sees them carry each other sometime. (120)
Further insults are heaped upon the family. A doctor refers to the family in several derogatory ways.

White Privilege Summary
My initial reaction to this article was that of agreement. McIntosh describes white privilege vividly as
the idea of an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions and more. In other words, a white
person in the United States has on his or her back an invisible weightless knapsack granting favored
status, acceptance, and more. It was interesting seeing a white woman s perspective on the topic of
privilege. As I was reading I was reflecting on moments in my life where I have whiteness white
privilege and how it worked against me. I ve seen white privilege illustrated at various time

It offered a candid honest perspective on a taboo subject. Her studies in this field were rooted in
findings of men s unwillingness to acknowledge their over privileged status. These denials, protected
male privilege from being acknowledged or decreased. Calling out this unacknowledged male

portrayed was that privilege is real and whites are taught not to recognize privilege. They simply go
along with a system that is already biased in their favor, never noticing the privileges built into their
daily lives and institutional structures. In terms of primary identities like race and gender, I do not
think I am privileged. When looking at secondary identities like education and work experience I
could be considered privileged in comparison to individuals of my same background. The freedoms of

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.
William Shakespeare
Do you agree/disagree/partially agree that Charlemagne was an example of all three?
Clovis, king of the Franks, established the Merovingian Empire in 481. Then, in 511, he split his
empire between his four sons. The kings in the Merovingian line continued to hand down their thrones
to their later generations, which slowly started to make them weak. This was because they were using
nepotism instead of giving positions based on merit. So, after time, positions called Mayors of the
Palace were formed. Mayors of the Palace, according to the dictionary, were people of a line of
hereditary administrative lieutenants to the Merovingian kings who eventually took over royal
function and title in the Frankish kingdoms . Over time, the descendants of Clovis became to be
known as Do Nothing kings , because they relied on the Mayors of the Palace to do work. The Do
Nothing kings began to have virtually no power, but they still held on to their title as king. One of the
most famous Mayors of the Palace was Charles Martel. His son, Pepin became the Frankish king.
Pepin s son was Charlemagne. Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, was the emperor of the Holy
Roman Empire, who achieved many well known accomplishments which have shaped the political,
military, and religious aspects of Europe today. Charlemagne was known by Einhart as a good father,

Biblical Vs. Biblical Worldview
When one looks at the world through a Biblical lens, they lay a foundation for becoming an agent of
change, standing apart from society and pointing others towards Christ. A truly Biblical worldview is
one which results in the believer honoring Christ and clearly set apart from the world. Every
worldview has a set of underlying assumptions which influence how one sees the world, and a Biblical
worldview is no different. What is different is that these assumptions can be tied back to Christ. This
fundamental difference results in those who hold a Biblical worldview being truly separate from the
secular world, pointing towards Christ as they live out a life aimed solely at glorifying Him. In
Romans 1 8, Paul supplies Christians with a set of assumptions regarding the natural world, human
identity, human relationships, and culture, creating the foundation of the transformative Biblical
worldview. Each of these leads to modern implications which can be derived from scripture. Firstly,
there is a set of Biblical assumptions about the natural world. In Romans 1:20, Paul says that His
invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever
since the creation of the world. (Romans 1:20, ESV) This verse is stating that the world naturally
reveals the glory of God. The wonder of creation, from the mountains to the birds in the sky, all point
towards the existence of a creator. This is known as natural revelation, which is the idea that

They all increase the number of collisions.
Fair testing
* To make this a fair test I will only change one variable.
* Each experiment will be done three times so an average can be found.
* The same equipment will be used in each experiment.
Method
· Measure out 50ml of thiosulphate and add it to the conical flask.
· Draw a cross on a piece of paper and place the conical flask on it.
· Measure out 10ml of acid and add it to the conical flask and start timing.
· Look into the top of the conical flask and when the cross can no longer be seen stop the stop watch.
· Do the experiment again but measure out 8ml of hydrochloric acid. Then add 2ml of distilled water.
The ratio for each experiment will therefore be 10:0, 8:2, 6:4, 4:6 and of acid to water
Conclusion
I conclude that whilst carrying out this investigation I found out that the more acid was in the solution
the cross on the paper disappeared quicker. This shows that the more concentrated the acid is then the
quicker the reaction time. My research about the collision theory was correct and the more
concentrated the solution is then the number of collisions will be increased. If the numbers of
collisions are increased then the reaction time will also be increased.
My prediction that the less concentrated the acid is then the longer it will take for the sodium
thiosulphate to react with the acid is correct because experiment number 5

Research Paper On Oscar Wilde
The Victorian era emerged as a narrowly conventional society that strived to continue the excellence
of idealistic morals and conventions that both assisted in the formation of the time period and that
remained constant throughout the sixty plus years in English history. Notable figures of the 19th
century influenced how society functioned and often challenged the norm. Among these figures, Irish
playwright Oscar Wilde poised his actions and writings to contest and satirise the societal customs that
were existent during the era. Throughout Wilde s workings, he both explicitly and implicitly wove

The prevalence of this discrimination was evident all throughout Victorian society and allowed Oscar
Wilde [among others] to satirise the social conditions of the era. Born into the upper class, Wilde s
belonging to this faction would overwhelmingly establish the basis on which he found his targets for
satire (Graham n.d.) Within Wilde s play, A Woman of No Importance, he satirically alludes to the
treatment of women throughout the upper, middle, working, and under classes of Victorian society.
But good women have such limited views of life, their horizon so small, their interests so petty, aren t
they? (A Woman of No Importance, Wilde, 1893.) Although colloquially perceived as an insult to
women, Wilde characterises how the society in which he resided in deemed females to be only eligible
to stay within the household, redeeming the desires of their husband and family. These social
conditions were the foundation of the separate gender spheres where men were seen to be the
precipice of the social hierarchy and being affluent in the public eye, whilst females kept their

Benefits of Milk Frother
There are few advantages of milk frothers. The most obvious is its size. They are usually about thirty
centimeters long so they can be stored anywhere in the kitchen. That is very important because many
do not have kitchens as spacious or enough storage place.
Because milk frothers are usually made of plastic, they are very light. That means that they are
comfortable to use. Also, some foam models come with a glass of beakers. In that case, your only job
is to press the button to activate it.
Frothers are easy to use. Typically, you have the on/off button and the button to adjust the speed of the
skimmers. That is very convenient because you can use the frother at the time you bought it without
first reading the instructions or seeing online tutorials.
Milk frothers are significantly removed and then regular coffee makers. The skimmers are silent when
they are in operation, so you should not worry about the noise.

through a dull task. The task consisted in placing a large number of spools on pegs on a board, turn
each spool a quarter turn, take the spool off the pegs and then put them back on. The subject s attitudes
toward this task were negative.
The participants were then asked to lie about the task to another person. This person was actually an
assistant in the study. The lie was to try to convince the assistant that the task was actually interesting

There was an inconsistency between the attitudes of the participants and the behavior. The participants
who received twenty dollars just wanted the money. The larger amount of money provided external
justification for the behavior. There was no dissonance, and the participants did not need to change
their attitudes.
For the subjects who received only one dollar there was less external justification, and more

Pride And Nationalism In Henry V By William Shakespeare
In the play Henry V , William Shakespeare, to a strong extent, seeks to evoke nationalistic fervour. In
the play, this patriotic sentiment is often used to display one s sense of pride and belonging in what
they may believe to be the best country and is often manipulated by the main characters to influence
one s emotions. This sense of patriotism is expressed through the Archbishop s statement towards
Henry to invade France, the prosecution of the three traitors who were set out to kill King Henry and
the use of nationalistic fervour by King Henry to motivate the English soldiers into war against
France,
The Archbishop of Canterbury shows concern in giving up the church s prime assets to the king and
instead persuades him to go to war with France. He tells the king to look back into your mighty
ancestors. The dialogue portrays the lineage of previous kings which King Henry carries the bloodline
of. Therefore allowing King Henry to take pride in the true strength of the British, and gives him
assurance that he is able to win against the French, based on the previous successes of the English.
The archbishop then goes on behold his lion s whelp with half their forces the full pride of France.
The lion , a symbol of strength and bravery is used to metaphorically liken the English as brave,
strong soldiers. In comparison, the whole strength of the British is described by just one singular lion.

The Fourth Amendment Is On Privacy
The search and seizure stipulate that the Fourth Amendment is about privacy. It gives a prevision of
protection of personal privacy to every citizen s right, not to serve as a fixed protection against the

during police stops, arrests, searches and seizures of homes, papers and businesses. It has been placed
to be a legal mechanical device to ensure that people s rights are treated fairly under limited

sensuous and the beautiful in nature, as well as for the harsher and the unpleasant. Thus, it would be a
mistake to suppose that Frost is a mere painter of pleasant landscapes. Rather, the bleak, the barren,
and the sinister is more characteristic of his nature painting. Frost is not concerned with nature as
such, he is more concerned with the common human activity that goes in her lap as mowing, apple
picking, birch swinging, etc.
Frost was a great lover of birds, insects and animals. Specially keen and sympathetic was his interest
in birds, and he observed their ways and habits minutely. A Minor Bird, Never Again Would Bird s

Man keeps the universe alone, even though he may call out for counter love, he will not find it. Even
though he loved natural beauty, Frost recognized the harsh facts of the natural world. He viewed these
opposites as simply different aspects of reality that could be embraced in poetry. He accepts these
facts with honesty and is remorseless in his realization of them. He probes the quality of truth and
accepts that there may be no answer. . His poetic impulse starts with some psychological concern and
finds its way to a material embodiment which usually includes a natural scene. Frost always takes time
to describe it with sensitivity and care while using good poetic technique especially figurative
language. Many of his poems are text book examples of the use of imagery and poetic devices of all
kinds. He was a skilled versifier.
Robert Frost was regarded as anti romantic poet, his viewpoint towards nature was partially
pessimistic, and that is the actual reason that we find winter or cold in his work, in an abundance.
As Sajjad Saqlain cited in Famous Robert Frost Selected Poems;
Critic like Alvarez, do not interpret Robert Frost as nature poet at all.
Another Critic, Marion Montgomery remarked on this issue;
Robert Frost cannot be called as nature poet, regarding standard of

The Visualization Of Fear In Brent Staples s Just Walk On...
Fear is a quintessential human emotion. Some people live devoid of joy, happiness, and pleasure, but
no one escapes the experience of fear. The visualization of danger is greatly impacted by the many
stereotypes society has shaped. The formation of these stereotypes can affect the actions of both the
perpetrator and the victim. In Brent Staples essay, Just Walk on By, the author describes his
experiences, feelings, issues, stereotypes, and reactions towards the discrimination he has faced being
a black man in public surroundings. Staples describes several different personal experiences of when
he feels that he had been judged or discriminated against by other people, based on the color of his
skin and how that contributed to his overall appearance. He reveals how the actions taken towards him
were because of the fear linked to his labeled stereotypes of being a rapist, gangster, or mugger.
Staples feels fearful and does not have the same freedom as other people. Staples has many reasons to
be afraid. He discusses his own experiences on how he is stereotyped. In the essay, Staples describes
himself as a tall, young black man who has graduated and is educated. He also mentions that he is a
soft guy who would not even harm a chicken with a knife, so he could never do that to a woman.
Staples talks about how people think of him as a bad person, which he is not. In one case, Staples
states, It was clear that she thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist or worse (1). Even though
he is walking a clear distance at night behind a white woman, she is afraid of him. People stereotype
him because he is an African American and he looks intimidating. He is not treated fairly and is
always being discriminated against. If Staple s first victim thought he was a rapist or a mugger, she
might go on and tell other people that a mugger or rapist who is black followed her, and she got away
from him. Later on, other people start to think he is dangerous, and they could get violent with him.
The author feels fearful because, at any moment, people can hurt him if they suspect him of being a
bad person. He admits to feeling unsafe and being discriminated against in public places. He does not
feel accepted among people.

Essay about Eliyahu M. Goldratt s The Goal
The Goal
Here are the principles behind the dramatic turnaround story in The Goal.
The goal of a manufacturing organization is to make money. Jonah poses this as a question: What is
the goal? and Rogo actually struggles with it for a day or two, but any manager or executive that can t
answer that question without hesitation should be fired without hesitation.
But then again, the goal isn t clear to everyone. One of the characters in the book, an accountant,
responds to an offhand comment about the goal with a confused The goal? You mean our objectives
for the month? That s sure to strike a chord with a lot of readers.
At an operational level, measure your success toward the goal with these three metrics:

Decrease the unit of work. If you ve got people idle, you can afford to have them do their work in
smaller chunks. Under a cost accounting model, this hurts their efficiency by removing certain
economies of scale. But you have much faster turn around time. Everyone s more flexible. Work flows
more smoothly. (Well, this is what the book says.)
jorendorff.com Articles The Goal
The Goal A Process Engineering Novel
I read Eliyahu M. Goldratt s novel The Goal the other night, instead of sleeping.
The book has two parts. In the first 264 pages, a manufacturing plant manager turns his failing plant
into a tremendous success. That part of the book ends with the manager s promotion to a position with
oversight over several failing plants. In the second part of the book (73 pages), the manager prepares
for his new job by trying to deduce a repeatable process of ongoing improvement. He s trying to make
sense of what happened in the first part of the book so he ll have half a chance of repeating that
success on a greater scale.
For now, I ll set aside considerations of why The Goal is a novel, how effective it is as a book,
whether it succeeds as literature, and so on. This article is primarily about the ideas behind the book,
and why some are valuable while others are probably quite useless.
How to Turn Around a Failing Plant
The first part of the book is about a manufacturing plant.

Theme Of Revenge In The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter is full of betrayal, hatred, jealousy, and envy. These many traits lead to the theme of
revenge being very prominent in the book. Revenge alone caused much strife between characters in
the novel and became the main goal for Chillingworth. Though there are other places where you can
find this theme it is most often used with Roger Chillingworth. He was torn apart both physically and
mentally by the need of revenge, which led him to lose many relationships that he had with characters
in the book. Chillingworth s dark revenge soon began after he returned home from leaving the
country. When he returned he noticed his wife, Hester Prynne, up on a scaffold. Upon seeing this, he
recognizes a bright A on her chest which meant she was an adulteress. Roger and Hester talk after
years of not seeing each other and Roger demands answers on who the adulterer is. Through much
denial from Hester, Chillingworth explains that he isn t mad at Hester but rather curious to discover
the identity of the adulterer. Later on Hester confesses to Roger that it is Arthur Dimmesdale, the town
reverend, which was shocking to Chillingworth. Upon hearing this Roger plots to get revenge on
Reverend Dimmesdale and will not stop until he gets it. Chillingworth s life is by now taken over by
the need of revenge. Though, with that idea, Roger tries to hide his real feelings and cover them up. As
an example of that, he would tell Hester that he loves her, but in reality he wants to

Uncertainty And Imperfect Information On Entrepreneurship
Uncertainty and Imperfect information in entrepreneurship are two important concepts that should be
considered in the role of entrepreneurs. According to (Klir, 1999) uncertainty has many methods and
dimensions and can include concepts such as vagueness, disagreement and conflict, imprecision and
non specificity The term uncertainty can be defined broadly as any deviation from the unachievable
ideal of completely deterministic knowledge of the relevant system (Walker, 2003). Uncertainty could
mean unpredictability, doubt or fear of the unknown. It has to do with the risk entrepreneurs take in
business. Imperfect information on the other hand means lack of adequate information before
embarking on the business. It can also be viewed as incomplete collection of facts or flawed
communication. These two concepts play vital roles in businesses and if not carefully considered and
handled, they can have adverse effects on businesses.
Who Are Entrepreneurs?
An entrepreneur is a person who creates new business, taking risks in accomplishing the objectives
which they intend to make profits and growth by recognising vital opportunities (Burdus, 2010). They
are individuals who innovate, recognise business opportunities, gather and co ordinate new blends of
resources {i.e. production functions) in other to extract the most profits from their innovations in an
uncertain environment (Rapheal Amit, 1993) Entrepreneurs are private business owners. They are self
starters and optimistic

I Walk Into A Local Coffee Shop
I walk into a local coffee shop, eager to begin researching the topic for my thesis paper. Immediately, I
am bombarded by a series of sense experiences: the glowing orange yellow of the overhead lights, the
smell of roasting coffee and steamed milk, the warmth flowing from my cup, and the chatter of the
patrons around me as they talk amongst themselves or engage in their own work. As you read that
sentence, you likely begin to create your own mental image of my coffee shop with a varying degree
of accuracy depending upon the skill of your imagination. Suppose that you have the best coffee shop
imagination skills in the entirety of human history, and can take my description, however lacking, and
create a perfect representation of my coffee shop. I take a look at your picture and am amazed by how
closely you have captured every detail. It is as though you were there with me, and I begin to
reminisce on my experience. But, is it possible for you to reminisce alongside me? Can you smell the
coffee and feel the impact of your shoes on the concrete floor as I did? Obviously not, you would
probably say, as you were not there with me. However, suppose that I brought you with me. Are you
smelling the coffee, seeing the lights, and feeling the floor in the same way that I do? I would say no,
as would many philosophers. This is because you and I are fundamentally different persons with
fundamentally different qualia. In this paper, I will examine three highly influential arguments for

Consequences Of Civilization Dbq
A Civilization improves people s lives in comparison to the Neolithic Society as it shows an advanced
step into a social development and human society. The Neolithic Age which began around 8,000
B.C.E could be possibly describe as the greatest single change in human history, this is probably
because everything really revolves around it in our society now. As said by William Howells, Back of
History, Doubleay Co. It was dramatic, but long after, in its consequences, because everything else we
have achieved flowed out of this as a beginning... During the time of the Neolithic Revolution, people
had to set up temporary camps to live there for a while until the food begin to dwindle as starvation
was one step away with the weather changes and the animal migration! With the time passing by, they
were able to develop agriculture and with that people were able to farm instead of hunting and
gathering which lead to population expansion thus this is when a Civilization begin. With a
Civilization, the people within the society sets forth a form of government standard and a writing
language. First of all, one characteristic of a civilization is its writing system. Stated from document 3

Shang dynasty is made out of clay while also having much details and thought put into the design.

Mental Health History
ntroduction to the History of Mental Illness Before the advent of technology and the scientific age,
sources of mental illness were found to be the workings of demons, spirits, and the supernatural. In
that first century B.C superstition eventually transformed into some of the first early biological
explanations. Hippocrates was the first to theorize that mental illness was a disease of the brain. With
the fall of the Roman empire came the Dark Ages in Europe. The churches of Europe gained massive
influence and doctors were replaced with missionaries and faith healers. With the turmoil of Middle
Ages Europe s epidemics, political unrest, and famines a reversion of demonology was rampant in the
form of witch hunts, lunacy trial, and other barbaric ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there were other ways to ward of mental illness in this innovative society. The Ancient
Egyptians treated mental illness through recreational activities. Such activities were; concerts, dances,
painting, and gardening. The disabled were to engage in activities in order to achieve some
resemblance of normality in their lives, as well as to relive symptoms of their illness such as
erraticness. Knowledge of the human body was also known to this civilization. The advancement of
their technologies included surgeries, and medicine. Through papyri dating back to the sixteenth
century B.C.E , early documents suggest Egyptians were also likely the first to site the brain as the
location of mental functions. Hysteria in women was diagnosed as a biological function of a
wandering uterus fumigation of the vagina was used to recorrect the organ and return it to its original
position. ( INCERT reference)
The early physician and commonly held father of modern medicine Hippocrates was a vocal critic of
demonology. The Physician proposed mental illness stems from natural forces within the body,
principally the brain. If there were disturbances to ones thoughts or actions, the brain was the source
of these abnormalities. The categories classified into three different categories: mania, melancholia,

The Politics Of The Media
News media Is the American news media being honest like it was to be back when our great nation
begin? Many American s don t believe the media today because of the views that the media takes. The
2016 election year was one of the ugliest presidential elections in the history of the United States
between Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton. The news media play a big role in the election as they
bring the news to the public about Clinton and Trump. The media is has changed the delivery form the
traditional news delivery, to the now comical delivery in shows like SNL. Because television stations
tend to be either liberal or conservative and craft stories to appeal subtle and unbiased political news
coverage and commentary is increasingly difficult to find. The media has always been under criticism
of being biased because of conservatives and liberals coming out and saying that the news is biased.
Mostly, if they news is not pretrain in their favor for one of the political parties, they tend to say that it
is biased. The part that these political parties are most concerned about is all the undecided voters out
in the United States. And each political party wants those votes because they tend to flip the election
either way. So, the news media has a huge influence in those undecided votes and if the media is not
favoring their party they tend to call the news biased. There are some very good points that come from
each side that need to be look at to determine if the news is

  • 3. The Conquest Of Hawaii Essay Before reading this article it never occurred to me that Hawaii wasn t always a part of the United States. Hawaii was always just one of those locations I knew existed, but seemed a lot like a fantasy. After reading this document, my eyes were opened to how this land was stripped away from the natives that once called it home. This theft of land all began when Captain James Cook first arrived on the island on January 19, 1778. Cook first arrived in the Hawaiian Islands on 19 January 1778. He as in command of two ships the Resolution and the Discovery ( The Conquest of Hawaii, 1). Though Cook and his men s tragic end seemed to be the end of foreign contact with Hawaii, it was not. Eventually, though, she passed a code of law based on the Ten Commandments, and the missionaries were well on their way to becoming a strong influence in Hawaiian politics. Their idea was to educate Hawaiians, transform Hawaii into a constitutional monarchy while acting as advisors to the monarchy along the way and get rich in the process... ( The Conquest of Hawaii, 2). Before long, after the death of Ka ahumanu, who had helped these foreigners gain a foot hold in Hawaii, Kamehameha III, the next chief in line, had signed a constitution which allowed Hawaiian speaking whites to manipulate the young king and make ground towards seizing Hawaii. With [the 64 page constitution], the white Hawaiian speaking advisors of Kamehameha III took the first legal step to gain control of Hawaiian land ( The Conquest of Hawaii, 2). After this fatal error of Kamehamedha II, whaling began to become prominent in Hawaii. With the non native whales came whalers who used local native Hawaiian women as sexual pawns. • 4. Compare and contrast the two main figures of the European... Napoleon s tragedy was that his ambitions surpassed his capacities; Bismarck s tragedy was that his capacities exceeded his society s ability to absorb them. The legacy Napoleon left for France was strategic paralysis; the legacy the Bismarck left for Germany was unassimilable greatness (statement made by Henry Kissinger) is in my opinion a correct statement. This statement can actually be separated into two parts. The first parts relates with the capacities, ambitions and successes of Bismarck and Napoleon. The second part is about the final result of their reign and how their reigns could be taken over after such changing of Europe. Bismarck main objective was to bring together the German states and to form a powerful great German ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wanted to create division in Europe, therefore he created crisis here and there, but couldn t control the outcomes afterwards! Time and again, he would encourage a crisis now in Italy, now in Poland, later in Germany only to recoil before its ultimate consequence (P.107 Kissinger) or Napoleon made himself the prisoner of crisis he had himself engineered (P.107 Kissinger). Those crises would finally result in Italy and Germany as Unification and new difficulties for Napoleon to cope with. His foreign affaires always came out to be failures and to finally work against him. Napoleon destroyed by many ways all the other alliances that were made between France and other great powers, by supporting conflicts that wouldn t even benefit France. He supported the Italians in the war against Austria, this laid to Italian Unification which made one more power to deal with afterwards. He finally concluded an armistice with Austria ... without informing his Piedmontese allies (P.111 Kissinger), creating hatred among the Italians towards his country. Austria was considered by Napoleon as repugnant , therefore he wouldn t try to collaborate with them: As a Bonaparte, [Napoleon 3] never felt comfortable cooperating with Austria, whatever raison d etat might dictate (P.110 Kissinger). • 7. Cults Of Personality Cult The Problem with Personality Cults What effects if any do cults of personalities have on a culture and society? When we think of cults, we usually tend to think of a group who all follow one specific belief or leader. According to Webster s Dictionary, a cult of personality is a situation in which a public figure (such as a political leader) is deliberately presented to the people of a country as a great person who should be admired and loved. Of course, there are many problems that may arise in this situation, one being that cults of personalities are a threat to a culture s freedom because they directly target democracies and can extinguish a society s liberties by elevating one person to such a point that they become god like in the eyes of their followers. The Overarching questions about global development that Professor Jared Diamond wished to answer were as follows: How did Europeans develop advantages in the first place?, Why did the world ever become so unequal?, What separates the haves from the have nots?, and How have guns, germs, and steel shaped the history of the world? He was prompted to begin exploring these issues when he was visiting Papua New Guinea. He enjoys bird watching and began going to Papua New Guinea when he was twenty six. He began making regular trips there since then. On one of these trips he met a man on the beach named Yali, and Yali asked him Why you white man have so much cargo and we New Guineans have so little? This threw Diamond for a loop and from that moment on he began researching and trying to find an answer to Yali s question. 2. Diamond makes a statement in the documentary in which he says The power of Europeans rests on geography. When he comes to this conclusion he addresses many reasons as to why this is true. The first being the specific geography of people in Papua New Guinea compared to people of Eurasia in the Stone Age period. The people of Papua New Guinea are isolated on an island that is dense with jungle and is wet. In Papua New Guinea there are limited resources for hunting and very limited sources of nutritious food. There have been many books and movies inspired by the original The Frog Prince, each being different in their own way. The name is a common difference between the original and newer versions of the story, usually modern versions are named The Princess and The Frog like Disney s adaptation. Even though Disney s The Princess and The Frog and the original The Frog Prince are the same story, they have notable differences and very few similarities; the setting, her status, the story line, and the moral. The Frog Prince begins telling how the princess very often spent her spare time at a well near her castle where she would play catch with her golden ball. One day while she was playing catch, she accidentally threw her golden ball into the well. As she cried about her golden ball a frog offered to help her as long as she made a promise, but if you would love me, and have me for your companion and play fellow, and let me sit by you at table, and eat from your plate, and drink from your cup, and sleep in your little bed if you would promise all this, then would I dive below the water and fetch you your golden ball again. Societal expectations are shaped by the so called Combine a mysterious and in the dark figure that is view as the puppeteer of the way society functions. In the Novel, Chief Bromden a long time patient at a psychiatric ward is the first to recognize the Combine and its powers. At the same time that this novel was written, the society of the 1950s was being challenged by a group known as the beat generation who wanted to reject and challenge the stringent norms that the majority deemed as appropriate and necessary. While many members of society supported the beliefs of conformity, in many ways the need for societal misfits was vital to secure a community where all people would have a voice. While many did their best to challenge the Combine, in the end the Combine would prevail, but the ideas of those who spoke out would resonate with others. The night of the election it seemed as if the Vice President and candidate for the Democratic Party was poised for a close victor. As the polls closed along the eastern seaboard, exit polling information indicated a clear, but narrow lead for the Vice President as he still need to secure Florida and two states totaling 15 electoral votes or more to win the Presidency (Toobin, 18). At 7:49 EST, NBC called Florida and the election for Gore, and so did 2 of the 4 major television networks did the same in the following minutes. As the night continued Gore secured Minnesota and New Mexico, but confusion in exit polling data had led to a premature call for Gore (18, Toobin). As the red eye hours of the morning continued all four media outlets reported a flood of data from Volusia County, Daytona Beach put Bush up by more than 50,000 votes, thus the media outlets followed suit and eventually called Florida for Bush. • 16. Casa Valentina By Harvey Fierstein Casa Valentina by Harvey Fierstein. The play certainly was not what I expected once I saw it live. Before going to see it and writing this paper, I decided to do some research on both of the plays to see if I could get a better understanding of them. As a result, I decided on Casa Valentina because it was about a topic that I was unfamiliar with. The play is set in the early 1960s when men would go to the Catskill Mountains and escape. But escape what? In this play, they would escape being men. Seeing the photographic oddness of men being dressed in little neat dresses has always been a source of comedy and a favorite in theatre. This play is no different. The play was also a huge success, being nominated for multiple awards, including four Tony s and winning other awards. With this in mind, I thought I was ready to view the play. What the playwright was trying to say about life is that everyone is different. It raised universal questions of who am I? What is my identity? To what are the differences in gender identity and sexual orientation? It truly posed some fascinating questions about these identities. It even provoked the question of what ensues in matrimony when one of the partners begins to represent both genders. What happens? Is one simply cut off? Is there room for them both? It brings out the central conflict of illusion versus reality in my eyes. This is because these are grown adult men, married with a spouse of the opposite sex. Yet in spite of all this, ... The FSK method of modulating/demodulation is typically limited to low frequency signal rates, such as 300 bits per second 1.2.2: FSK DEMODULATION: FSK demodulation is the process of recovering the original signal by detecting the frequencies involved in the original modulation. William Shakespeare Do you agree/disagree/partially agree that Charlemagne was an example of all three? Clovis, king of the Franks, established the Merovingian Empire in 481. Then, in 511, he split his empire between his four sons. The kings in the Merovingian line continued to hand down their thrones to their later generations, which slowly started to make them weak. This was because they were using nepotism instead of giving positions based on merit. So, after time, positions called Mayors of the Palace were formed. Biblical Worldview When one looks at the world through a Biblical lens, they lay a foundation for becoming an agent of change, standing apart from society and pointing others towards Christ. A truly Biblical worldview is one which results in the believer honoring Christ and clearly set apart from the world. Every worldview has a set of underlying assumptions which influence how one sees the world, and a Biblical worldview is no different. What is different is that these assumptions can be tied back to Christ. This fundamental difference results in those who hold a Biblical worldview being truly separate from the secular world, pointing towards Christ as they live out a life aimed solely at glorifying Him. In Romans 1 8, Paul supplies Christians with a set of assumptions regarding the natural world, human identity, human relationships, and culture, creating the foundation of the transformative Biblical worldview. Each of these leads to modern implications which can be derived from scripture. Firstly, there is a set of Biblical assumptions about the natural world. In Romans 1:20, Paul says that His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world. This journey is the result of adoptees looking to fill in the missing cultural gap, while stilling trying to identify with their American adoptive families upbringing. This is considered Cognitive Dissonance, A psychological term used to describe mental conflict that occurs when beliefs or assumptions are contradicted by new information; arouses unease or tension; relieved by one of several defensive maneuvers: rejecting, explaining away, or avoiding new information; persuading self that no conflict really exists; reconciling differences; or resorting to any other defensive means of preserving stability or order in conception of world and of ... The task consisted in placing a large number of spools on pegs on a board, turn each spool a quarter turn, take the spool off the pegs and then put them back on. The subject s attitudes toward this task were negative. The participants were then asked to lie about the task to another person. This person was actually an assistant in the study. The lie was to try to convince the assistant that the task was actually interesting and fun. The participants were either given one dollar or twenty dollars for lying about the task. The experimenters found that those who lied and received the one dollar experienced the greatest dissonance, and they were more motivated to seek cognitive constancy than the participants who received twenty dollars. Those who received the one dollar reported to have enjoyed the task more than those who received the twenty dollars. There was an inconsistency between the attitudes of the participants and the behavior. The participants who received twenty dollars just wanted the money. The larger amount of money provided external justification for the behavior. There was no dissonance, and the participants did not need to change their attitudes. For the subjects who received only one dollar there was less external justification, and more dissonance. They reduced their dissonance by changing their attitudes toward the task. The ... • 39. Pride And Nationalism In Henry V By William Shakespeare In the play Henry V , William Shakespeare, to a strong extent, seeks to evoke nationalistic fervour. In the play, this patriotic sentiment is often used to display one s sense of pride and belonging in what they may believe to be the best country and is often manipulated by the main characters to influence one s emotions. This sense of patriotism is expressed through the Archbishop s statement towards Henry to invade France, the prosecution of the three traitors who were set out to kill King Henry and the use of nationalistic fervour by King Henry to motivate the English soldiers into war against France, The Archbishop of Canterbury shows concern in giving up the church s prime assets to the king and instead persuades him to go to war with France. He tells the king to look back into your mighty ancestors. The dialogue portrays the lineage of previous kings which King Henry carries the bloodline of. Therefore allowing King Henry to take pride in the true strength of the British, and gives him assurance that he is able to win against the French, based on the previous successes of the English. The archbishop then goes on behold his lion s whelp with half their forces the full pride of France. Frost has an equally keen eye for the sensuous and the beautiful in nature, as well as for the harsher and the unpleasant. Thus, it would be a mistake to suppose that Frost is a mere painter of pleasant landscapes. Rather, the bleak, the barren, and the sinister is more characteristic of his nature painting. Frost is not concerned with nature as such, he is more concerned with the common human activity that goes in her lap as mowing, apple picking, birch swinging, etc. Frost was a great lover of birds, insects and animals. • 42. The Visualization Of Fear In Brent Staples s Just Walk On... Fear is a quintessential human emotion. Some people live devoid of joy, happiness, and pleasure, but no one escapes the experience of fear. The visualization of danger is greatly impacted by the many stereotypes society has shaped. The formation of these stereotypes can affect the actions of both the perpetrator and the victim. In Brent Staples essay, Just Walk on By, the author describes his experiences, feelings, issues, stereotypes, and reactions towards the discrimination he has faced being a black man in public surroundings. Staples describes several different personal experiences of when he feels that he had been judged or discriminated against by other people, based on the color of his skin and how that contributed to his overall appearance. He reveals how the actions taken towards him were because of the fear linked to his labeled stereotypes of being a rapist, gangster, or mugger. Staples feels fearful and does not have the same freedom as other people. Staples has many reasons to be afraid. He discusses his own experiences on how he is stereotyped. In the essay, Staples describes himself as a tall, young black man who has graduated and is educated. He also mentions that he is a soft guy who would not even harm a chicken with a knife, so he could never do that to a woman. Staples talks about how people think of him as a bad person, which he is not. In one case, Staples states, It was clear that she thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist or worse (1). Even though he is walking a clear distance at night behind a white woman, she is afraid of him. People stereotype him because he is an African American and he looks intimidating. He is not treated fairly and is always being discriminated against. If Staple s first victim thought he was a rapist or a mugger, she might go on and tell other people that a mugger or rapist who is black followed her, and she got away from him. Later on, other people start to think he is dangerous, and they could get violent with him. The author feels fearful because, at any moment, people can hurt him if they suspect him of being a bad person. He admits to feeling unsafe and being discriminated against in public places. He does not feel accepted among people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Revenge alone caused much strife between characters in the novel and became the main goal for Chillingworth. Though there are other places where you can find this theme it is most often used with Roger Chillingworth. He was torn apart both physically and mentally by the need of revenge, which led him to lose many relationships that he had with characters in the book. Chillingworth s dark revenge soon began after he returned home from leaving the country. When he returned he noticed his wife, Hester Prynne, up on a scaffold. Upon seeing this, he recognizes a bright A on her chest which meant she was an adulteress. Roger and Hester talk after years of not seeing each other and Roger demands answers on who the adulterer is. Through much denial from Hester, Chillingworth explains that he isn t mad at Hester but rather curious to discover the identity of the adulterer. Later on Hester confesses to Roger that it is Arthur Dimmesdale, the town reverend, which was shocking to Chillingworth. Upon hearing this Roger plots to get revenge on Reverend Dimmesdale and will not stop until he gets it. Chillingworth s life is by now taken over by the need of revenge. Uncertainty And Imperfect Information On Entrepreneurship Uncertainty and Imperfect information in entrepreneurship are two important concepts that should be considered in the role of entrepreneurs. According to (Klir, 1999) uncertainty has many methods and dimensions and can include concepts such as vagueness, disagreement and conflict, imprecision and non specificity The term uncertainty can be defined broadly as any deviation from the unachievable ideal of completely deterministic knowledge of the relevant system (Walker, 2003). Uncertainty could mean unpredictability, doubt or fear of the unknown. It has to do with the risk entrepreneurs take in business. Imperfect information on the other hand means lack of adequate information before embarking on the business. It can also be viewed as incomplete collection of facts or flawed communication. These two concepts play vital roles in businesses and if not carefully considered and handled, they can have adverse effects on businesses. Who Are Entrepreneurs? An entrepreneur is a person who creates new business, taking risks in accomplishing the objectives which they intend to make profits and growth by recognising vital opportunities (Burdus, 2010). They are individuals who innovate, recognise business opportunities, gather and co ordinate new blends of resources {i.e. production functions) in other to extract the most profits from their innovations in an uncertain environment (Rapheal Amit, 1993) Entrepreneurs are private business owners.
