Book Review on the French Revolution and the People Essay
For my report I read The French Revolution and the People by David Andress to learn what were
the reasons causing the French Revolutionary War. The main thesis of the book is the known
problems and reactions which affected the events and outcomes of the revolution in every stage,
now everyone in France was affected by the revolution. I agree with the author s thesis on many
different levels. Since the multiple troubles the people had at that time did not originate just then
but decades before. As well with constant economic pressure of all the upper classes upon them
only worsened the situation. Since all the troubles and problems of the poor were never looked
after, now everyone in France gets a taste of the revolution. First,... Show more content on

The churches collect tithes and since the right to collect tithes was owned by both the lay
landowners and seigneurs (similar to mayors) the tithes were mostly mandatory. Although the tithe
was to pay for the church s services you still would be charged for weddings, baptisms, and
funerals. In some cases the clerics and the religious instructions to be both landowners and
seigneurs, in turn being able to claim rents and feudal dues from large numbers of peasants.
Second, how seigneurialism did not get rid of feudalism but only changed it for the seigneurs to
get more power. Over time it shifted from feudalism to more of a financial relationship since the
lords wanted more money and they couldn t tax serfs who didn t get paid. The seigneurs had
many rights such over extensive land, an annual rent, a share of harvest; fee if land has changed
hands or inherited would be paid by past serfs. They also had rights over the game in their land
forbidding peasants from killing anything without privilege, as well as the right to ride over
peasant s crops during the pursuit of the game. Also more rights are honorary pews in the front of
the church and the weathercock on top of manor house. The seigneurs also had the right to
dispense justice so many tens of thousands of seigneurial courts were apart of villages. Also,
another problem that occurred during that time was a drought. France ran into a few climatic
problems in 1785 which lead a drought a major

The Role Of Muckraking In Haiti
In total, the American Red Cross has received $488m in donations to aid in rebuilding the poor
neighborhood of Campeche in Haiti s capital city, Port Au Prince (Sullivan et al.). With this
copious amount of money, the organization has only built six permanent homes in all of Haiti.
Where did all of that money go, and why hasn t it been used to provide assistance to the poor
country? Thanks to muckraking done by NPR and ProPublica s investigative journalists, there has
been information uncovered about the American Red Crosss scandal. Muckraking does still exist as
demonstrated by Laura Sullivan and Justin Elliot s 2015 series, How the Red Cross Raised Half a
Billion Dollars for Haitiand Built Six Homes . ProPublica and NPR published Laura... Show more

Essay on Scottish American Immigration
Scottish American Immigration
America was created by people who immigrated to the country over the years. One of the many
groups of people to come to America and help build into what she is today was the Scots. In order
to discuss the Scottish immigration you must understand why they immigrated, what type of
prejudice they faced, and what role the Scots now have in today s America. Though the Scots did
not have the influx of people immigrating as the Irish, Italian, or English they had a major influence
on the development of America.
When did the first Scottish arrive and why did they come? The first Scots in America probably
came with the Vikings is what Wikipedia says on when the first Scots came to America. The first
official ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this many Scots did not face prejudice or discrimination and more Scots came to the
New World. So much so that at the time of our first federal census (1790) people of Scottish
(including Scottish Irish) origins made up more than six percent of the population.
(geneologymagazine.com) By the year 2000 approximately 1.5 million Scots have immigrated to
America. (Gormley) So were the Scottish discriminated against or did they discriminate. The truth
of the matter is that though the Scottish was not discriminated against, they did participate in
discrimination. The Scottish was some of the main farmers of cotton and tobacco. Because of this
the Scottish owned many slaves and fought to be able to keep the African Americans slaves. Their
discrimination against this race would continue well into the 1960 s. This would include
discriminating against them in jobs, whether that being not hiring because of color, or not
promoting for the same reason.
For the most part the Scottish did real well for themselves once they were in America. A fair went
on to have children who became presidents; Andrew Jackson was one of those children. Along
with Andrew Jackson there were a few more Scots to help sign the Declaration of Independence.
Many presidents later would be of Scottish decent. Many went on to become successful tobacco and
cotton farmers. Many went on to settle and discover the American West

Doubt in Hamlet
Her death was doubtful. Analyse the theme of doubt in Hamlet.
In Shakespeare s play Hamlet, doubt is one of the most important themes. In fact, the whole play
is based on the story of a ghost who claims to be Hamlet s father, and nobody can be sure if what
he says is the truth. In this essay, I am going to focus on the theme of doubt throughout the play. I
will first speak about the opening scene, and then I will talk about the ghost, which is a supernatural
element used by Shakespeare to create doubt in the play. I will also analyse the passage in which
Hamlet declares his love to Ophelia. Finally, I will briefly discuss Hamlet s sanity.
What happens in the opening scene is very relevant and foreshadows the atmosphere of the whole ...

However, I think that at the end of the play we can be sure that Claudius was Hamlet s father s
murderer, but we cannot be sure about Hamlet s sanity at all; it remains one of the most important
doubts at the end of the play.
In conclusion, I would say that the whole play of Hamlet is founded on doubt. In fact, the main
plot is built on a doubtful accusation of a ghost, which is something that we cannot even be sure
exists. Moreover, doubt is present in different passages throughout the play, like in the opening
scene. Doubt is also present in Hamlet s speech, and Shakespeare manages to introduce the theme
of doubt almost everywhere in his play.

Three Symbols In The Dumpster
I ve been good friends with my partner, Lauren Lester, for a while now, but our most recent
assignment together, aptly named three symbols in a bag, has opened my eyes to some
interesting revelations about her. While not very in depth, I ve learned more about her and her
family than she may realize. My partner bestowed upon me a Kermit amiibo type figurine, an art
marker, and a lady bug plushy, with simple explanations as to their significance, but I took it
much deeper, each item telling a story of its own. The first item Lauren pulled out of her bag
was her Muppet propaganda, the Kermit amiibo. From my past experiences with her love for
Pepe and other repulsive memes, I figured it was meant to represent her obsession with frog like
monstrosities, but was fortunately disproven. She provided me with a brief explanation of how
she, like many American children, grew up watching the Muppets. Her love for the character built
upon years worth of childhood memories as she got older, the timeless characters still present
today. I however, couldn t really sympathize with her adoration for the stuffed amphibian as I didn
t grow up like most kids, watching old timely horror movies and letting Frankenstein fuel my
young curiosities. At 13 years old I ve actually only seen one Muppets movie.... Show more content

The Saga of the Tigua Indians Essay
The Saga of the Tigua Indians The Saga of the Tigua Indians is an amazing one. By all reasoning
they should have been wiped out long ago. There quiet defiance to change, however, has carried
them through. From the height of civilization to near extinction the Tigua have remained. They
endure imprisonment by the Spanish, oppression and manipulation by everyone that followed. This
is the story of a people thought to extinct, that are once again learning to survive.
Early histories of the Tigua Indians are conflicting and largely untrue. Since 1680 it had been
believed that the Tiguas were traitors to the Pueblo Nation, and had chose sides with the Spanish
during the Pueblo Revolt. Upon the Spanish retreat south it was believed that ... Show more content

With such a large presence of Spanish soldiers it would have been foolish for the Indians of
Isleta to resist them. After failed attempts to recapture lands lost to the north, Governor Otermin
finally decided to give up and proceeded south to greater safety of the Mission of Guadalupe at

few Tigua. One in Juarez three camps for the Indians were established. Alvaro de Zualata was the

present Church of Ysleta has an interesting record from this time stating that in addition to these
camps set up by the Spanish, a few Tigua try to found Ysleta del Sur in a nearby place.
In 1681 Otermin was determined to recapture the lost territories in New Mexico. He mounted an

How I Use A Research Paper Essay
There are few things in this world that I hate more than having to create a research paper. I
usually don t get to choose the topic, I have to spend lots of time in the library, and I usually wait
until the last minute, so the whole ordeal is worse than it should have been. Well, there are a few
things I taught myself to do to keep my researchpapers flowing and much easier to organize and
compile. These are the ideas that I use every single time for any type of sourced writing, including
writing articles for Associated Content.
Create a notes file: This is the ultimate tool for my writing. When I have found a source for my
paper I take it with me to the computer. While I m reading the portion of this book, or
encyclopedia, or Internet article, I have a writing program open and I write down paragraphs and
bullet points of the article in my own words, highlighting key concepts. This is separated by
sources so when I m writing I can quickly put down sources, and after I use an article I create my
insert for my bibliography. If you keep up with your bibliography notes, when it comes to make
your works cited page, you re already done!
Create headings for your notes: Give your notes from your notes file and copy and paste them
into categories. Give each category a heading as to the general idea that groups them together. For
example, on my paper in how the Nazi party controlled the people of Germany, I made a group
called Fear Factor. I put all my notes regarding fear in

History Of Roman Number Symbols
The history of Roman Number Symbol are represented by letters. The Roman numerbs are
represented by seven different letters are I, V, X, L, and D. Therefore, these roman letters represent
1, 5, 10, 100, and 500. Ancient Roman use these seven letters to make a lot of different numbers
and to be written of the Roman alphabet. In the Etruscans was an ancient civilization of Italy
developed their own numeral systemwith different symbols. A common theory of the origin Roman
numeral system was represented by hand signal. For example, the Roman numeral system by hand
signal was used like one, two, three and four signaled by the equivalent amount of fingers that were
used. Then, The numberfive is represented by the thumb and fingers separated, making a V shape
and The number ten is represented by either crossing the thumbs or hands, signaling an X shape
(Pollard). Therefore, the numbers; six, seven, eight and nine are represented by one hand signaling
a five and the other representing the number 1 through to 4. The hand signal was used for counting
by either crossing the thumbs, fingers separated, and signaled, which helped to hand... Show more

Comparison Of Pain In American Sniper And Schindler s List
Indirect Pain The feeling of pain has often been referred to as a controversial one, as one of the
sensations that is felt by the body. Recently, discussions about the subject of pain have been focused
on the difficulty encountered in trying to establish a definition for it. Because pain has no one
definition, expressing it becomes quite elusive for the sufferer, which then leads to the difficulty in
the understanding of pain by an outsider. Elaine Scarry makes a strong argumentthat to have pain is
to have certainty whereas, to hear about pain is to have doubt, (Scarry, 13) and with this she
emphasizes that pain is almost impossible to deduce by an outsider because all they experience is
doubt. Although Scarry s argument is valid, Joanna Bourke makes a contrasting argument that,
indeed, hearing about or witnessing another person s pain could actually destroy the onlooker,
(Bourke, 46) which could be interpreted to mean that one s pain could in fact be shared by others
as opposed to Scarry s argument. Therefore, the transferability of pain in American Sniperand
Schindler s List stems from the acknowledgement of the pain of the sufferer through the use of
framing and close up shots of the onlooker, and it is that acknowledgement that makes for the
possibility of the sharing of pain in regards to the situations of war in the movies. Scarry envelopes
her argument in the elusiveness of the sharing of pain that the relative presence of bodies does not

What Is The Australian Landscape
A poem is a way to escape, a way to feel something you ve never felt, see something you ve never
seen, and go somewhere you ve never gone. Poets have always used their language, tone, and
devices to transport their reader to see a new and different perspective on key aspects of society.
One distinct example of this, is the depiction of the Australian landscape which is expressed from
varying perspectives in different poems, including John Tranter s Backyard, Jill Jones s
Transformations in a City Block, and Dorothea Mackellars My Country. Tranter has expressed the
suburban scenery, with which a majority of Australians are familiar with, as well as a realistic life
and the idea of living simply. Jones, as well as Tranter, shows the real environment in which most
Australians live, the city, contrary to the belief of many. On the other hand, My Country illustrates
the ideal and well known Australian landscape of the bush and natural environment, which is not a
completely accurate representation of Australians and how we live. Nevertheless these poems work
together to form a cohesive anthology concerning the different perspectives of Australiaand its
scenery, revealing the duality of this countries landscape and a contrast between the ideal and real
environment in which Australians live.
The poem Backyard conveys the notion of the simple yet chaotic life that is found when living in
the landscape of suburban Australia. This blank verse poem of seven stanzas has slight rhythm, no
rhyme and has utilised enjambment throughout. These aspects contribute to the sense of reality and
chaos created as the poem sound closer to normal speech, as though you re just have a conversation
with the narrator. The poem follows the events that occur and environment of a family s backyard,
discussing the various aspects with which most Australian s would be able to relate with to some
degree and overall telling the reader to live life simply. Moreover, the use of the rhetorical question
Is that a fifties home movie, or the real thing? makes the audience think about what the true
Australian landscape really is. People outside of Australia don t tend to associate this country with
the suburbs but this statement makes them

Female Substance Abuse Counseling At The Hendry County Jail
A large number of incarcerated women report high rates of abuse, including physical, sexual, or
emotional abuse (Wolff, Frueh, Shi, Schumann, 2012). This writer recently started to conduct
individual substance abuse counseling to women incarcerated at the Hendry County Jail. During
the time of speaking to these women, a common factor has arisen, that is the fact that most of these
women have been involved in some sort of domestic violence. Although there are women s jail
groups available throughout the country, there are not enough of these groups that focus on
battered women. This writer proposes to incorporate a battered women s in jail group that will

The goals of the battered women s in jail group were sampled from The National Clearinghouse for

supporting survivors of abuse in developing strategies and identifying resources to help prevent
them from experiencing abuse again in the future, helping survivors plan and prepare for being
released, including developing comprehensive strategies for enhancing their safety while in the
community (Bible, 2011).

Similarities Between Thomas Jefferson And Slavery
Thomas Jefferson and Slavery
Thomas Jefferson had written in the Declaration of Independence that, all men are created equal.
Also, every man has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In addition, several
enlightenment thinkers in Europe believed in natural law, human progress, and a government
made for the people, all of whom inspired Jefferson. Despite this, in 1716, 500,000 African slaves
were kept in the Americas, and Jefferson was one of these people that owned slaves.
Slavery was legal in all states until 1777, when Vermont outlawed it. Six years later,
Massachusetts followed. New Hampshire removed it from their constitutional interpretation.
After this, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Connecticut adopted gradual emancipation
programs, meaning they gradually freed slaves, ending it in these states. Finally, New York and
New Jersey freed their slaves, leaving the southern colonies remaining. While some people did
free their slaves in the south, many did not. This is because they heavily relied on them, not just
for work, but for their status. It was woven in their lives to the point where it was a
representation of the slave owner s wealth. Jefferson hated slavery, to the point where he made a
plan to remove it in Virginia, which ended up failing. He was in a large amount of debt at the time,
so he didn t believe he could free his own slaves while he was still alive.
Thomas Jefferson had a close relationship with a slave named Sally Hemings, which was very
controversial and considered shameful at the time. James Callender said that Jefferson had
fathered several children from one of his slaves, which didn t get credit until Fawn M. Brodie
published a book in 1974 called, Thomas Jefferson: An Intimate History, where she portrayed the
relationship between Jefferson and Hemings. While most versions showed their relationship as
shameful and scandalous, she made it look like they were a happy couple, as if he fell in love
with her and married when she was 14. Others do not think this way because Jefferson was very
protective of his social life, going to extreme measures to hide it. This makes some people believe
he was trying to hide something. Some are not sure if authorities would

Climate Change And Urban Environment
Change in climate is becoming a major concern on a global scale, as it has had a tremendous
impact on urban environment. Oxford dictionary defines climate change as:
A change in global or regional climate patterns, [...] attributed to the increased levels of
atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. (Oxford Dictionary 2015)
The increasing amount of green house gases (GHG) released in the atmosphere is causing
significant changes in the environment leading to unpredictable weather patterns and warming of
the climate system is putting a great pressure on city development and infrastructures. This essay
outlines three problems caused by climate change in urban areas, and evaluates the effectiveness of
some of the mitigation and adaptation strategies. This essay reasons that mitigation and adaptation
strategies need to work in synergy in order to address the situation effectively.
The three problems caused by climate change are, rise in sea level, varied energy demand, and
water scarcity. Firstly, the impact on costal areas contributing to sea level rise has made low lying
cities vulnerable to them. Hunt and Watkiss (2011, p. 32) estimates that a 50 m raise in sea level

King Lear Vs A Thousand Acres Analysis
King Lear vs A Thousand Acres
While it may appear that Jane Smiley s A Thousand Acres is nothing but a modernized interpretation
of Shakespeare s King Lear, one can see that below the surface these two tales are anything but
alike. Through Smiley s characters Larry, Caroline, Ginny and Rose, it is easy to conclude that they
contrast their parallels, Lear, Cordelia, Goneril and Rose, greatly from Shakespeare s play. Among
the multiple themes that make this conclusion possible, the most prominent are the contrasting
themes of relationships, outcomes, character development and motivations.
At first, Shakespeare portrays King Lear as an arrogant man whose only concern is himself; Lear
has no problem relishing in his title and power as ruler, but has trouble carrying out the
responsibilities of a king and doing good for his people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caroline is portrayed as an intelligent, successful and well put together daughter, which is more
than Cordelia was perceived as. While Caroline was in fact pushed away due to her not agreeing
with her fathers ideas, instead of being seen as the good daughter, she is envied by her sisters.
As for her relationship with her father Larry, she was more or less forced into caring for him.
Due to her ignorance towards his molestation of Ginny and Rose, Caroline takes in her father
and attempts to protect him from her sisters who she believes are trying to hurt him. While Rose
tries to convince Caroline that Ginny and her are in fact trying to help, We did everything for
you! We saved you from Daddy! (Smiley 244), Caroline disagrees saying, Did I really have to be
saved from Daddy? From my own father? (Smiley 244). While Caroline is forced to care for her
father because her sisters would not, Cordelia willingly forgave and went with her father. This
difference in relationships only further aid the reader to conclude that Shakespeare and Smiley s

Essay on The Physics of Bridges
The Physics of Bridges
The design of the bridge superstructure is based on a set of loading conditions which the
component or element must withstand. A bridge engineer must take into account a wide variety of
loads which may vary based on the duration of the load
(permanent or temporary), the direction of the load (vertical, longitudinal, etc.), and the effect of
the load (shear, bending, torsion, etc.).
In order to form a consistent basis for design, organizations like AASHTO, American
Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, have developed a set of standard
loading conditions which are applied to the engineer s design model of the structure. Other nations
maintain their own set of design loads like the BS ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the table 1.1 the designer would separate items such as sidewalks, railings, parapets, signing,
utilities, and the wearing of the surface.
Pressures due to earth and water are also considered permanent loads. While these loads primarily
affect substructure elements, they have the potential of impacting superstructure elements as well
at points where these two components interface (e.g., at the abutment backwall). This gives us a
good reminder that while we are discussing the structure s individual components, we can not lose
sight of the structure as a whole.
Temporary loads are those loads, which are placed on a bridge for only a short period of time. Just
as dead loads are the permanent loading condition, live loads represent the major temporary
loading condition. There are, however, several other classes of temporary loads, which the
designer must consider. The temporary loads are: vehicle live load, earthquake live load, wind
loading, channel forces, centrifugal forces, impact forces, and erection loads.
The term live load means a load that moves along the length of a span. Therefore, a person
walking along the bridge can be considered live load. Obviously, a highway bridge

• Describe The Three Broad Categories Within The DSM-2
The most well known and widely used diagnostic classification system is the DSM V
(Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). In the early 1900, steps were taken to
follow a system similar to the DSM that is currently used today. The DSM I was first published
in 1952 by the American Psychiatric Association, with the DSM II being released in 1968 as an
amendment of the original (Pomerantz, 2014). While the earlier editions of the DSM were
similar to each other, they were very different from the other editions later released (Lilienfeld
Landfield, 2008). There were three very broad categories in the earlier editions: neuroses which
would include mood disorders such as major depression and anxiety disorders; psychoses which
would include disorders like schizophrenia; and character disorders which are known today as
personality disorders (Blashfield, Flanagan, Raley, 2010).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The language used in the definitions reflect the psychoanalytic approach to how professionals
viewed mental illness at the time, due to psychoanalysis being the main view of the psychiatrics

described: instead of being a list of specific symptoms for each disorder, it was a simple paragraph
giving a vague description of the disorder leading to limited generalisability for the practising
professionals (Woo Keatinge,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Recycled Aggregates
The recycled aggregates can undergo some processing procedures and adaptation to the desired
characteristics. Some of these processes are: homogenisation, crushing and screening and
autogenous cleaning. The homogenisation process Material aims to standardise and remove waste
materials such as wood, steel, plastics, among others. Initially, construction wasteand demolition are
separated by the predominant color: gray or red. It is then performed quartering, where the material
is distributed in different layers along a plastic and from the middle section, they are divided into
several sections entitled cells. The material is then sent to a crusher where grinding occurs (Kwan,

In general, the durability of concrete covers directly on the ease or difficulty of fluid transport

How Do You Agree That Bill s Father Is A Reckless Driving
A behavioral psychologist would say that Bill participates in unhealthy and risky behavior such
as drinking heavily and driving recklessly because he has been influenced by her family to act
like that. For example, Bill s father could have been an alocholic and a careless driver. His father
may drink a lot, so naturally Bill may do the same and pick up his father s behaviors.
Additionally, Bill s father could have tought Bill how to drive. Assuming that Bill s father is a
reckless driving, Bill could have learned that it is acceptable to drive in a careless manner. Bill s

Semiotics In That 70s Show
Introduction Semiotics can be defined as the study of symbols and signs particularly with regard
to how they are used to create meaning and communicate it to others. Semiotics also offers tools
that make it possible to uncover the cultural conventions and codes that highlight the period to
which a setting was placed and interpret meanings behind the symbols (Berger, 2014). In the pilot
episode of That 70s Show , it is possible to apply semiotic analysis since there are various signs
and symbols that reveal different elements of the show. Different signifiers in the episode and what
they portray helps the audience to interpret the message that the producer is trying to convey. That

Cecil The Lion Peter Singer Analysis
Remember Cecil the Lion? A lot of people were shocked, even outraged, when they heard about
his death at the hands of an American hunter in 2015. The response to the lion s death was so
strong that the guy who shot Cecil basically went into hiding until he issued an apology. Our
society reacts with horror when we hear about a majestic lion being shot or sacks of kittens
being tossed into rivers, or owners training their dogs to fight each other for sport. However,
what is the difference between killings Cecil and killing a duck, deer, cow, pig, or a chicken?
How do we reconcile the strong feelings many of us have about certain animals, mainly the cute
ones like kittens and puppies, with the way we actual use animals in our own lives?
Most of us think nothing about using non human animals for their meat, milk, or skins and not only
do we use animals in these ways, but using them as we do almost always harms them. A common
method for testing cosmetics, for example, involves restraining rabbits and putting the product into
their eyes, leaving it for a set amount of time and then washing it out and checking for adverse
reactions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

our descendants look back on us and our treatment of non human animals with the same reaction.

The lean practice advocates for the creation of a more value added system geared towards customer

Chiquita in Colombia: Funding Paramilitary Groups to Protect Business and Employees

United Fruit Company, a company that grows bananas in Central America and exports them to
North America and Europe, became Chiquita Brands International in 1984 through a series of

The company could have closed down and sold its banana plantation in Colombia, but Chiquita let
the atrocities continue for years. Perhaps Chiquita was following the analytical framework of
utilitarianism. Chiquita may have thought that making these payments to paramilitary groups was
protecting more workers than it was harming; therefore, it was the right thing to do.
Knowing that paramilitary groups had murdered Chiquita workers, one would assume continuing to
make payments to these groups would be wrong. When Chiquita continued making payments and
workers were still being massacred, one should consider stopping the payments and selling the
farmland. Perhaps Chiquita could even relocate the banana plantation and help relocate the workers
to a more secure area.
Chiquita faced legal challenges by doing business in a politically unstable foreign environment.
A lesson learned from this case is to keep up with and always abide by the laws set in the foreign
country, as well as one s own country. Following the laws and making sure one knows the laws is
good advice for any firm starting a business in a similarly volatile

Slit Drum History
The evolution of the drums has varied from being made from a simple wood log, to having a
hollow object covered in rawhide, to being completely electronic. Like any instrument, each one
produces a different sound. Some may sound light like a snare, deep like a bass, or metronomic by
simply producing a clicking noise to keep count. Some are completely electronic, even.
Starting from one of the oldest drums in the world, the slit drum is an instrument originating from
Africa that is made from a hollow piece of wood or carved from bamboo. They are typically
made with three slits, (hence the name slit drum ) each one producing a different tone. Like
most drums, slit drums can be played using rubber mallet or with the tips of your finger tips.
Unlike today, where we have telephones and social media to talk to one another long distantly,
this instrument was once, and probably still is, used as a form of communication. For war cries,
signaling, storytelling, and ceremonies. The djembe drum is made somewhat like the slit drum.

new accountability system emerged. In San Francisco Unified School District, central
administrative teams began a transition phase starting as early as four to five years ago when
Common Core State Standards were introduced to low performing schools. As the Instructional
Reform Facilitator during that time, it was exciting because new and more robust learning/content

John Grisham wrote The Pelican Brief, in 1992 and it was one of his best selling books. Louisiana
s marshes are being destroyed and are suffering greatly because of humans. Grisham shows
extensive knowledge of the wetlands as well as the wildlife through discussing the endangered
Brown Pelican and how humans have brought it to the brink of extinction. Numberless amounts of
waterfowl, birds, and countless species that call Louisiana home are now being terrorized thanks
to non native species, humans and a numerous amount of different causes. The Brown Pelican,
Louisiana s state bird, has been endangered until 1995, and about half of all the geese in North
America spend the winter in the coastal marshes (Elliott, Charles). Additionally, Louisiana is the
leading state for the number of wintering ducks (ВЁSGPВЁ). The marshes are extremely
important to the fowl that live there year round and for the ones that do not. The Bobwhite Quail,
that live there year round, have suffered huge losses to their population. From 1966 they have

Stretching, post exercise, is also a recovery technique used to combat the detrimental effects of
exercise. According the study conducted by Beckett, Schneiker, Wallman, Dawson, and Guelfi
(2009), a static stretching regimen of the lower extremity prime movers resulted in slower sprint
times for test participants. Results also revealed that stretching had detrimental effects on the
repeated sprint ability test. This study suggested that static stretching did not have a significant
impact on athletic performance or post activity recovery. Participants who performed static
stretching during their recovery period all recorded slower sprint and repeated sprint test times.
Conversely, Ray, Lago PeГ±as, CasГЎis, and Lago Ballesteros (2012), studied the effects of
stretching (passive recovery) twenty four hours post exercise, on subsequent testing for professional
soccer players. The researchers concluded that static stretching improved performance on counter
movement jump test for participants, but had no effect on 20 meter sprint times and agility testing.
This researchers suggested that the evidence found within this study is inconclusive, there is no
definitive way to decide if stretching had a positive impact on athlete recovery. Stretching, although
used by many practitioners and proven to aid in injury prevention does not seem to have a positive
or negative affect on recovery from the studies

The Things They Carried, written by Tim O Brein, is a story told through the eyes of members of

these things inside, maintaining a mask of composure (Belasco 1469). The physical aspects of the
things they carried, the men could get a respite by setting them down for a moment, but the mental
things could not be dropped so easily, in fact most men always carried this weight, thus making the
mental weight upon their shoulders more tedious to deal with. The biggest mental struggles the
men dealt with were those of the memories flashing across their minds of fellow comrades dying,
the emotional weight of men not knowing if the man they are standing next to may die that day,
memories from home and the war, both shameful and joyous, the turmoil of day to day life in an
alien land, and embarrassment. O Brien expands on this by saying, They carried the soldier s
greatest fear, which was a fear of blushing. Men killed, and died, because they were embarrassed
not to. It was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, no dreams of
glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor (Belasco 1469). The stress of these things, were

Aung San Suu Kyi is a visionary that fights for Burma, her country, believing that people should

not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the
scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it (page 682). In order to bring this matter to

Aung San Suu demonstrates ethos in her speech by contrasting her father with the pacifism of
Gandhi by stating: The words used by Jawaharlal Nehru to describe Mahatma Gandhi could be
applied to Aung San. (page684). She uses that allusion to show her admiration for Gandhi, whom
she identifies as Abhaya , the absence of fear from the mind. Aung San Suu strongly supports his
immense contribution to human rights, peace, and non violent resistance to fight oppression. She
uses Gandhi as an example to persuade the reader that, just like him, she is worthy of trust and
respect. She wants to show them that she has the same beliefs, same ideology as Gandhi, whom
with his moral and methods brought down imperialism, colonialism and dictatorships. Kyi even
continues to say that there is an inevitable sameness when she compares Gandhi to her father. A lot
of attention focused on her because she is the daughter of once an influential man, so she knows
that if she talks about him they would have no problem as to follow her. When it comes to her
thoughts about Burma s governments, Kyi shows a good amount of planning and knowledge when
talking about economic growth. She states that: Public dissatisfaction with economic hardships has
been seen as the chief cause of the movement in Burma, sparked off by the student demonstrations
of 1988. (page682).

Corruption In The Canterbury Tales
Geoffrey Chaucer, the first author that used English in a major literary work, is the author of The
Canterbury Tales. Often referred to as the Father of English poetry, Chaucer, is one of the well

characterization, Chaucer uses appearance versus reality to tell the readers how the different
religious pilgrims either breaks or follows their vows.
One of the vows that Geoffrey Chaucer shows the readers how the religious figures and how the
church was corrupt was the vow of poverty. An upholder of God cannot be attached to worldly or
material things and is to live modestly like the vow of poverty says. In line 180 the narrator
describes the Monk as taking the modern world s more spacious way, (Chaucer). In doing this, the
Monk owns greyhounds and horses and wears grey fur and gold pins (Chaucer, 193 200). The
narrator also describes the Monk as personable, but in reality, the Monk is not sympathetic. Another

Essay On John Knox
Did you know John Knox is famous for his preachings? John Knox left a legacy behind which is
one topic that will be mentioned. Along with his life and career, contributions, and life without the
individual. John Knox was a important figure in the Scottish Reformation and caused the people of
Scotland to live. John Knoxwas a Scottish minister and founder of the Church of Scotland. John
Knox was born in 1514 near Haddington, East Lothian Scotland. There is not much known about
John Knox before 1540. Knox s mothers name was Sinclair and his father s name was William.

For example if he never became a preacher the religious revolution in Scotland would ve never
been instigated. Also John Knox was the founder of the Presbyterian Church, so if he never
existed it would never be founded. The Presbyterian church is a community of believers in Jesus
Christ that seek love. The church encouraged people to worship not just in church but in everyday
settings. I don t think that things would be completely different now if he never existed but I do
believe that some things would. For example Knox made worshipping Jesus a everyday task. If it
weren t for that who knows what could be different. John was Scotland s leader for the reformation
and the reformation was the process on how the Papacy broke. Knox lead the Protestant
Reformation in Scotland. For all we know many others things that John had an input on could ve

The Importance Of The Gilded Age In The Gilded Age
The Importance of Frances Willard Throughout the course of the Gilded Age, several influential
figures rose impacting the economy, political factors, and culture of the United States. One of the
most important figures of this time period was Frances Willard, born in New York in 1839. She
held several important positions, exceeding as an educator, a women s suffragist, and a co founder
of the Woman s Christian Temperance Union. The fact that Frances Willard held these positions
indicates that she contributed to the improvement of the United States, specifically by educating
Women, fighting for Women s rights, and fighting for prohibition. These key roles were
complementary to the issues associated with the United States at the time. For example, a
significantly low percentage of the population attended college after completing high school. Most
of the people that attended college at the time were men. Women were typically held to Victorian
standards by society s expectation of them to stay home to raise children, making it uncommon for
them to attend college. In terms of alcohol, Christian churches completely disagreed with and
despised the consumption of liquor, leading to the establishment of temperance reform. Frances
Willard was the most influential figure of the Gilded Age because of her work through the Woman s
Christian Temperance Union that contributed towards the ratification of the 18th and 19th
amendment, prohibiting the consumption or production of alcohol and

Cellular Pathophysiology
The two major hallmarks of Alzeheimer s, in terms of cellular pathology, are neuritic plaques and
neurofilbrillary tangles.
NFTs
Structure: paired helical filaments with some straight filaments
Major component: hyperphosphorylated tau protein
Tau protein is a microtubule associated protein that is normally located in the axon s microtubule
network
Adopt a somato dendritic distribution in the neuron
In pyramidal neurons they are flame shaped
In round neurons they appear round
Insoluble, resistant to clearance, persist even after the neuron dies
The pathophysiology surrounding neurofibrillary tangles and hyperphosphorylated tau is poorly
understood, but there are 2 theories as to how this works:

Biblical Allusion During The Romantic Age
Biblical allusion during the Romantic Age was not uncommon. Because Biblical images and
references were in the minds of most Romantic readers, a poet would often use this strategy to
contextualize an assertion being made. Wordsworth is no different. However, the level to which he
uses this technique within his poetry fluctuates. The Ruined Cottage only contains two obvious
examples, while Michaelis rich with Biblical imagery and allusion. Because of this difference, the
Biblical allusion within the two poems will be discussed within three categories those which are
concerned with a connection to nature, those which inspire the hope of salvation, and those which
deal with the creation and deterioration of covenants. Delving first into... Show more content on

She is presented as greedy and neglectful of the inherent spirituality in things, and possibly had
false intentions behind sending Luke away. It seems this is a warning from Wordsworth. It is also
valuable to note that Michael s troubles begin when his nephew defaults on a loan. However, the
poem never labels him as nephew but instead, his brother s son (211). If Michael s name is meant
to conjure the name of the archangel Michael, it can t be ignored that one of the brothers of that
archangel is Satan. Viewing the name this way creates a parallel which makes Michael s nephew
a quasi son of evil. Because of the nephew s industrious life (212), he is disconnected from the
land and therefore amoral. With these instances of naming, Wordsworth seems to be commenting
on how morality is connected to living life by means of nature rather than by means of material or
industry. Turning now to allusions that inspire hope, we look towards Robert s Sunday clothes in
The Ruined Cottage. Still in its place. His Sunday garments hung / Upon the self same nail, his
very staff / Stood undisturbed behind the door (432 34). The garments that are hung up, are not just
regular clothes, but his Sunday garments. This small detail gives the image it s religious tone.
Continuing, the word staff certainly alludes to the staff of Moses in the bible, who is known for

An Analysis of “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good
Night”
An analysis of Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night This poem was written by Dylan Thomas
who had been acknowledged as one of the most important Welsh poets of the 20th century. The
poem is a son s plea to his dying father. Thomas shows four different kinds of people in four
stanzas wise men, good men, wild men and grave men so as to encourage his father to fight
against death rather than to accept in silence. The tone used in the poem is passionate and
intense. Rage, rage against the dying of the light (line 3) is an attitude the old is supposed to hold.
Old age should burn and rave at close of day (line 2) is exactly the theme that the poet wants to
pass on. Though wise men at their end know dark... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors (line 14) This is a metaphor that means grave men never
distinguish their hope and always hold a passionate attitude towards life. A disabled person still
can fight against the doom. Why healthy people give in to death? In the last stanza, the poet
points out that this poem is particularly written for his dying father. Curse, bless, me now with
your fierce tears, I pray. (line 17) In this sentence, curse , bless , fierce and tears all have the
rhyme s which makes the tone soft sounding. Thomas begs his father to die with anger, not
humility. Whatever the ways, the curse or bless, the poet can bear it so long as his father not
surrender to death. This poem is structured in a form called villanelle, which has 19 lines long,
but only uses two rhymes. In this poem, night , light , right , bright , flight , sight and sight all
end with t sound and day , they , bay , way , gay and pray all end with ei sound. The rhythm of this
poem follows as aba, aba, aba, aba, aba, abaa . Moreover, it is clear to see that first five stanzas are
triples and last stanza is a quatrain, which is also another standard of villanelle. There are two
refrains in the poem. Do not go gentle into that good night. (line 1) is repeated in line 6, line 12
and line 18. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. (line 3)is repeated in line 9, line 15 and line

The Tradition Of War Poetry Essay
The Tradition Of War Poetry
By comparing and contrasting a selection of war poems consider the ways in which attitudes to
war have been explored and expressed. When considering poetry written post 1900 concentrate on a
selection of poems written by Wilfred Owen.
Humans have turned to poetry in many different instances as a way of expressing them selves,
using the best combination of words, in the best order to express exactly how they are feeling at
that moment. Poetry is one of the most powerful means of communication that uses words very
sparingly, and often defines the era in which the poet lived and died. I think that is why many
poems are written about war, as anyone who was involved in ... Show more content on

He also uses strong metaphors to describe how the men should fight in the battle, such as imitate
the action of the tiger. This line prepares the troops psychology as well as physically by saying
that they should be strong, courageous and fierce like the animal. The poem is also very patriotic,
and talks of how the men should not disgrace their mothers or ancestors. Like the poem The
Soldier by Rupert Brooke, it presents the idea that dying for your country would be a good, brave
thing to do and is in a way a sense of duty towards their mother England.
This poem is not wholly positive or negative. It gives war a good image by making it sound
courageous and noble but it also expresses some horrific images such as, Or close the wall with
our English dead. I think that the last line of the poem, Cry, God for Harry, England and Saint
George. sums up the overall message of the poem by ending in a strong religious line, using a
group of 3 to make the speech effective, and emphasising the fact that their cause is a righteous one.
Although The Charge Of The Light Brigade does put much importance on the idea of how brave
and courageous the men fighting were it also creates a different message compared to The Battle
Of Harfleur from Henry V. I think what Alfred Tennyson was trying to do in this poem was to
convey and explain what mistakes

A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess
Imagine having stolen, raped, and even murdered all at the age of 15. The new canon of dark
literature and controversy has finally hit the stage. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
written in 1962 could only be described in the old cockney expression queer as a clockwork
orange . Meaning it is bizarre internally, but appears natural on the surface. The story begins with
the protagonist and narrator Alex a 15 year old boy, who sets the bar for the most cold blooded
and callous characters of literature. His droogs, Pete, Georgie and Dim, who was really dim,
would spend their time in the Korova Milkbar drinking drug laced milk. After a good drink of the

Nadsat itself, symbolizes the adolescent stage of violence and would not give the same effect if

whole; gives readers the option of distancing themselves from the violence in the novel; and
prevents the novel from becoming dated (15), gives each reader a different experience and have
immense possibilities on how to view Alex as a character. The question of human morality has been
discussed and argued for many years, and Anthony Burgess challenges the question of free will in
A Clockwork Orange. First, what exactly is human morality? In a the journal of Strong Reciprocity

behavior was п¬Ѓtness enhancing in the years marking the emergence of Homo sapiens because
human groups with many altruists fared better than groups of selfish individuals, and the
п¬Ѓtness losses sustained by altruists were more than compensated by the superior performance of
the groups in which they congregated (Gintis, Henrich, Bowles, Boyd, Fehr 1).
Though our human nature is to be good, Alex is the complete opposite. Alex is suddenly
backstabbed by his companions while robbing a woman s house, who he murdered that night. Alex

Bruce Knauft and The Gebusi Religion
As anthropologist Bruce Knauft described, the Gebusi clan had words that described many
different aspects, examples included oil the Gebusi word for tomorrow and yesterday and owa for
grandparents and grandchildren, but the most defining one was kogwayay, a catchfall marker to
describe all of their cultural distinction. Because of kogwayay s branching terminology, kogwayay
is also the Gebusi s word for ethnicity, the identification with a cultural group because of shared
values customs and beliefs, while inversely excluded from different groups. One aspect that
contributes to the Gebusi s sense of kogwayay is religion. Through Knauft s book we see their
religious ways introduced and watch them change and adapt with the dynamics of cultural change
over time. As defined above, ethnicity is the shared customs, values and beliefs that the cultural
group shares that set them apart from other groups. The religion described within Knauft s
research is applicable to majority of those elements, making it a vital part of kogwayay. One of the
Gebusi s traditions is presented in the suicide description of chapter three. Dugawe, one of the men
of tribe, was found after hanging himself, and in Gebusi tradition the women massage the body and
cover themselves in the bodily fluids oozing from the decomposing body. While ethnocentrism may
come out in a majority of people, this is part of the Gebusi beliefs and customs that set them apart
from certain groups and bring individuals together.

The Book s Name Is `` Smoke Gets On Your Eyes By...
Reading Project The book s name is Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. by Caitlin Doughty. It is about
author s work experience in the crematory, and the awareness and cognition of death. Caitlin
mentioned that she works in a crematorium because she wanted to overcome the fear of death.
Because when she was eight years old at Windward Mall, she saw a little girl climb up to where
the escalator met the second story railing, then she tipped over the edge and fell thirty feet, landing
face first on a laminate counter with a sickening thud (Caitlin 29). So, she lost control of death.
Maybe people fear of death because they experience some frightening things, no matter in real
life or virtual. In addition, Cicirelli said, The meanings of death and life are interdependent. Life
gains its meaning from the fact of death. How, when, where, and why one anticipates dying
influences the meaning of the life that one has. Such a view implies changing individuals over
time, and consequently a life span perspective on development of personal death meanings and
related death fears. One would expect the individual to develop different personal meanings and
death fears over the course of life from early childhood to adolescence, young adulthood, middle
adulthood, and old age ( Cicirelli 715). When I was seven years old, I fear of death because the

The Siege of Port Arthur
Once the city of Port Arthur was under siege at the hands of Togo s navy, and the First army was
able to successfully land in Chemulpo, the Japanese set out to launch the second half of its joint
campaign. The objective was to stage a limited war in an effort to further contain the Russian troops
in the region and exhaust any possibility they had of rebuilding their resources to counter Japanese
attack. Japan was smart, they knew they could not sustain fighting and continue to pull out victories
if Russiawas able to replenish and rebuild. If the Russians were afforded the time they needed, the
war may have taken a different turn for the Japanese.
The first successful land attack began with the battle at Yalu river. The river was not far from
Port Arthur, and its significance was also that it represented the border between Korea and
China. The goal of the Russians was in contrast, as General Kuropatkin, Far East Army Russian
Commander, was interested only in holding the line long enough to receive reinforcements by
way of the Trans Siberian railway. In other words, the Russian army was on the defensive. He
knew the process of replenishment would be a lengthy one, and the Japanese, under the
leadership of General Kuroki, did as well. Japan was aware that victory would need to be swift to
maintain their strategy of driving the offensive and keeping the Russians on their heels (Warner,
pp. 252 268). Kuropatkin had long been vocal about the dangers of expansion and

  • 2. Book Review on the French Revolution and the People Essay For my report I read The French Revolution and the People by David Andress to learn what were the reasons causing the French Revolutionary War. The main thesis of the book is the known problems and reactions which affected the events and outcomes of the revolution in every stage, now everyone in France was affected by the revolution. I agree with the author s thesis on many different levels. Since the multiple troubles the people had at that time did not originate just then but decades before. As well with constant economic pressure of all the upper classes upon them only worsened the situation. Since all the troubles and problems of the poor were never looked after, now everyone in France gets a taste of the revolution. First,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The churches collect tithes and since the right to collect tithes was owned by both the lay landowners and seigneurs (similar to mayors) the tithes were mostly mandatory. Although the tithe was to pay for the church s services you still would be charged for weddings, baptisms, and funerals. In some cases the clerics and the religious instructions to be both landowners and seigneurs, in turn being able to claim rents and feudal dues from large numbers of peasants. Second, how seigneurialism did not get rid of feudalism but only changed it for the seigneurs to get more power. Over time it shifted from feudalism to more of a financial relationship since the lords wanted more money and they couldn t tax serfs who didn t get paid. The seigneurs had many rights such over extensive land, an annual rent, a share of harvest; fee if land has changed hands or inherited would be paid by past serfs. They also had rights over the game in their land forbidding peasants from killing anything without privilege, as well as the right to ride over peasant s crops during the pursuit of the game. Also more rights are honorary pews in the front of the church and the weathercock on top of manor house. The seigneurs also had the right to dispense justice so many tens of thousands of seigneurial courts were apart of villages. Also, another problem that occurred during that time was a drought. France ran into a few climatic problems in 1785 which lead a drought a major ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Role Of Muckraking In Haiti In total, the American Red Cross has received $488m in donations to aid in rebuilding the poor neighborhood of Campeche in Haiti s capital city, Port Au Prince (Sullivan et al.). With this copious amount of money, the organization has only built six permanent homes in all of Haiti. Where did all of that money go, and why hasn t it been used to provide assistance to the poor country? Thanks to muckraking done by NPR and ProPublica s investigative journalists, there has been information uncovered about the American Red Crosss scandal. Muckraking does still exist as demonstrated by Laura Sullivan and Justin Elliot s 2015 series, How the Red Cross Raised Half a Billion Dollars for Haitiand Built Six Homes . ProPublica and NPR published Laura... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many other angry calls for investigation have been made in other states. The American Red Cross finished off the conference by ending with a statement from Red Cross spokeswoman, Jana Sweeney. • 4. Essay on Scottish American Immigration Scottish American Immigration America was created by people who immigrated to the country over the years. One of the many groups of people to come to America and help build into what she is today was the Scots. In order to discuss the Scottish immigration you must understand why they immigrated, what type of prejudice they faced, and what role the Scots now have in today s America. Though the Scots did not have the influx of people immigrating as the Irish, Italian, or English they had a major influence on the development of America. When did the first Scottish arrive and why did they come? The first Scots in America probably came with the Vikings is what Wikipedia says on when the first Scots came to America. The first official ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this many Scots did not face prejudice or discrimination and more Scots came to the New World. So much so that at the time of our first federal census (1790) people of Scottish (including Scottish Irish) origins made up more than six percent of the population. (geneologymagazine.com) By the year 2000 approximately 1.5 million Scots have immigrated to America. (Gormley) So were the Scottish discriminated against or did they discriminate. The truth of the matter is that though the Scottish was not discriminated against, they did participate in discrimination. The Scottish was some of the main farmers of cotton and tobacco. Because of this the Scottish owned many slaves and fought to be able to keep the African Americans slaves. Their discrimination against this race would continue well into the 1960 s. This would include discriminating against them in jobs, whether that being not hiring because of color, or not promoting for the same reason. For the most part the Scottish did real well for themselves once they were in America. A fair went on to have children who became presidents; Andrew Jackson was one of those children. Along with Andrew Jackson there were a few more Scots to help sign the Declaration of Independence. Many presidents later would be of Scottish decent. Many went on to become successful tobacco and cotton farmers. Many went on to settle and discover the American West ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Doubt in Hamlet Her death was doubtful. Analyse the theme of doubt in Hamlet. In Shakespeare s play Hamlet, doubt is one of the most important themes. In fact, the whole play is based on the story of a ghost who claims to be Hamlet s father, and nobody can be sure if what he says is the truth. In this essay, I am going to focus on the theme of doubt throughout the play. I will first speak about the opening scene, and then I will talk about the ghost, which is a supernatural element used by Shakespeare to create doubt in the play. I will also analyse the passage in which Hamlet declares his love to Ophelia. Finally, I will briefly discuss Hamlet s sanity. What happens in the opening scene is very relevant and foreshadows the atmosphere of the whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I think that at the end of the play we can be sure that Claudius was Hamlet s father s murderer, but we cannot be sure about Hamlet s sanity at all; it remains one of the most important doubts at the end of the play. In conclusion, I would say that the whole play of Hamlet is founded on doubt. In fact, the main plot is built on a doubtful accusation of a ghost, which is something that we cannot even be sure exists. Moreover, doubt is present in different passages throughout the play, like in the opening scene. Doubt is also present in Hamlet s speech, and Shakespeare manages to introduce the theme of doubt almost everywhere in his play. • 6. Three Symbols In The Dumpster I ve been good friends with my partner, Lauren Lester, for a while now, but our most recent assignment together, aptly named three symbols in a bag, has opened my eyes to some interesting revelations about her. While not very in depth, I ve learned more about her and her family than she may realize. My partner bestowed upon me a Kermit amiibo type figurine, an art marker, and a lady bug plushy, with simple explanations as to their significance, but I took it much deeper, each item telling a story of its own. The first item Lauren pulled out of her bag was her Muppet propaganda, the Kermit amiibo. From my past experiences with her love for Pepe and other repulsive memes, I figured it was meant to represent her obsession with frog like monstrosities, but was fortunately disproven. She provided me with a brief explanation of how she, like many American children, grew up watching the Muppets. Her love for the character built upon years worth of childhood memories as she got older, the timeless characters still present today. I however, couldn t really sympathize with her adoration for the stuffed amphibian as I didn t grow up like most kids, watching old timely horror movies and letting Frankenstein fuel my young curiosities. At 13 years old I ve actually only seen one Muppets movie.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As almost anyone who s met her will know, Lauren is a fantastic artist who is always putting pencil to paper in stunning productions of artistry, so of course I assumed that it could only represent her passion for art. Because of this I also know that it takes years of practice and is more likely than not, a huge part of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Saga of the Tigua Indians Essay The Saga of the Tigua Indians The Saga of the Tigua Indians is an amazing one. By all reasoning they should have been wiped out long ago. There quiet defiance to change, however, has carried them through. From the height of civilization to near extinction the Tigua have remained. They endure imprisonment by the Spanish, oppression and manipulation by everyone that followed. This is the story of a people thought to extinct, that are once again learning to survive. Early histories of the Tigua Indians are conflicting and largely untrue. Since 1680 it had been believed that the Tiguas were traitors to the Pueblo Nation, and had chose sides with the Spanish during the Pueblo Revolt. Upon the Spanish retreat south it was believed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With such a large presence of Spanish soldiers it would have been foolish for the Indians of Isleta to resist them. After failed attempts to recapture lands lost to the north, Governor Otermin finally decided to give up and proceeded south to greater safety of the Mission of Guadalupe at Juarez. The Spanish were accompanied by a group of Indians from mixed tribes, including a few Tigua. One in Juarez three camps for the Indians were established. Alvaro de Zualata was the first priest of the Sacramento camp was located on the present day site of the Mission Church at Ysleta, Texas. Ysleta, Texas, or Ysleta del Sur is the current location of the remaining Tigua Indians. Two other camps were also formed; St. Pedro de Alcantarra and Seneca del Sur. The present Church of Ysleta has an interesting record from this time stating that in addition to these camps set up by the Spanish, a few Tigua try to found Ysleta del Sur in a nearby place. In 1681 Otermin was determined to recapture the lost territories in New Mexico. He mounted an expedition to the north and was successful in surprising the Pueblo of Isleta under the cover of darkness. He was able to capture nearly all of the inhabitants. The Spanish continued to move north. The Pueblo forces were successful again, however, in repulsing the Spanish. Thus forcing the Spanish back south toward El Paso. His parents owned a small restaurant in Baltimore, and only earned a little money. Soon George went to an interview at St. Mary s school. St. Mary s accepted him but he had to live there until he was to be 21. He saw his first baseballgame at St. Mary s and hadn t heard of it until then. The first position he played was catcher. He was good at it and played for the Brownies, one of St. Mary s local teams. He made his first friend on the Brownies. His name was Johnny. The man asked George, George, do you want to play ball for the Baltimore Orioles? George happily accepted. George had pitched a no hitter for a couple innings. He was getting very tired. The coach called out another pitcher who wasn t as good as George, but was still super good. The first pitch, the other team got a hit. • 9. How I Use A Research Paper Essay There are few things in this world that I hate more than having to create a research paper. I usually don t get to choose the topic, I have to spend lots of time in the library, and I usually wait until the last minute, so the whole ordeal is worse than it should have been. Well, there are a few things I taught myself to do to keep my researchpapers flowing and much easier to organize and compile. These are the ideas that I use every single time for any type of sourced writing, including writing articles for Associated Content. Create a notes file: This is the ultimate tool for my writing. When I have found a source for my paper I take it with me to the computer. While I m reading the portion of this book, or encyclopedia, or Internet article, I have a writing program open and I write down paragraphs and bullet points of the article in my own words, highlighting key concepts. This is separated by sources so when I m writing I can quickly put down sources, and after I use an article I create my insert for my bibliography. If you keep up with your bibliography notes, when it comes to make your works cited page, you re already done! Create headings for your notes: Give your notes from your notes file and copy and paste them into categories. Give each category a heading as to the general idea that groups them together. For example, on my paper in how the Nazi party controlled the people of Germany, I made a group called Fear Factor. I put all my notes regarding fear in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mice injected with Peramivir showed better survivability rates than those receiving the same dosages of Zanamivir, and Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) when initially infected with the H1N1 influenza virus. Support of our hypothesis is seen by noting that during the pandemic of 2009 Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) was the initial drug of choice and treated people infected with H1N1 successfully. However as the pandemic spread across the United States antiviral resistance was noted as increasing commensurate with the number of days the pandemic raged. • 14. Comparison Of Pain In American Sniper And Schindler s List Indirect Pain The feeling of pain has often been referred to as a controversial one, as one of the sensations that is felt by the body. Recently, discussions about the subject of pain have been focused on the difficulty encountered in trying to establish a definition for it. Because pain has no one definition, expressing it becomes quite elusive for the sufferer, which then leads to the difficulty in the understanding of pain by an outsider. Elaine Scarry makes a strong argumentthat to have pain is to have certainty whereas, to hear about pain is to have doubt, (Scarry, 13) and with this she emphasizes that pain is almost impossible to deduce by an outsider because all they experience is doubt. Although Scarry s argument is valid, Joanna Bourke makes a contrasting argument that, indeed, hearing about or witnessing another person s pain could actually destroy the onlooker, (Bourke, 46) which could be interpreted to mean that one s pain could in fact be shared by others as opposed to Scarry s argument. Therefore, the transferability of pain in American Sniperand Schindler s List stems from the acknowledgement of the pain of the sufferer through the use of framing and close up shots of the onlooker, and it is that acknowledgement that makes for the possibility of the sharing of pain in regards to the situations of war in the movies. Scarry envelopes her argument in the elusiveness of the sharing of pain that the relative presence of bodies does not necessarily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. What Is The Australian Landscape A poem is a way to escape, a way to feel something you ve never felt, see something you ve never seen, and go somewhere you ve never gone. Poets have always used their language, tone, and devices to transport their reader to see a new and different perspective on key aspects of society. One distinct example of this, is the depiction of the Australian landscape which is expressed from varying perspectives in different poems, including John Tranter s Backyard, Jill Jones s Transformations in a City Block, and Dorothea Mackellars My Country. Tranter has expressed the suburban scenery, with which a majority of Australians are familiar with, as well as a realistic life and the idea of living simply. Jones, as well as Tranter, shows the real environment in which most Australians live, the city, contrary to the belief of many. On the other hand, My Country illustrates the ideal and well known Australian landscape of the bush and natural environment, which is not a completely accurate representation of Australians and how we live. Nevertheless these poems work together to form a cohesive anthology concerning the different perspectives of Australiaand its scenery, revealing the duality of this countries landscape and a contrast between the ideal and real environment in which Australians live. The poem Backyard conveys the notion of the simple yet chaotic life that is found when living in the landscape of suburban Australia. This blank verse poem of seven stanzas has slight rhythm, no rhyme and has utilised enjambment throughout. These aspects contribute to the sense of reality and chaos created as the poem sound closer to normal speech, as though you re just have a conversation with the narrator. The poem follows the events that occur and environment of a family s backyard, discussing the various aspects with which most Australian s would be able to relate with to some degree and overall telling the reader to live life simply. Moreover, the use of the rhetorical question Is that a fifties home movie, or the real thing? makes the audience think about what the true Australian landscape really is. • 19. Similarities Between Thomas Jefferson And Slavery Thomas Jefferson and Slavery Thomas Jefferson had written in the Declaration of Independence that, all men are created equal. Also, every man has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In addition, several enlightenment thinkers in Europe believed in natural law, human progress, and a government made for the people, all of whom inspired Jefferson. Despite this, in 1716, 500,000 African slaves were kept in the Americas, and Jefferson was one of these people that owned slaves. Slavery was legal in all states until 1777, when Vermont outlawed it. Six years later, Massachusetts followed. New Hampshire removed it from their constitutional interpretation. After this, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Connecticut adopted gradual emancipation programs, meaning they gradually freed slaves, ending it in these states. Finally, New York and New Jersey freed their slaves, leaving the southern colonies remaining. While some people did free their slaves in the south, many did not. This is because they heavily relied on them, not just for work, but for their status. It was woven in their lives to the point where it was a representation of the slave owner s wealth. Jefferson hated slavery, to the point where he made a plan to remove it in Virginia, which ended up failing. He was in a large amount of debt at the time, so he didn t believe he could free his own slaves while he was still alive. Thomas Jefferson had a close relationship with a slave named Sally Hemings, which was very controversial and considered shameful at the time. James Callender said that Jefferson had fathered several children from one of his slaves, which didn t get credit until Fawn M. Brodie published a book in 1974 called, Thomas Jefferson: An Intimate History, where she portrayed the relationship between Jefferson and Hemings. While most versions showed their relationship as shameful and scandalous, she made it look like they were a happy couple, as if he fell in love with her and married when she was 14. Others do not think this way because Jefferson was very protective of his social life, going to extreme measures to hide it. This makes some people believe he was trying to hide something. Oxford dictionary defines climate change as: A change in global or regional climate patterns, [...] attributed to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. (Oxford Dictionary 2015) The increasing amount of green house gases (GHG) released in the atmosphere is causing significant changes in the environment leading to unpredictable weather patterns and warming of the climate system is putting a great pressure on city development and infrastructures. This essay outlines three problems caused by climate change in urban areas, and evaluates the effectiveness of some of the mitigation and adaptation strategies. This essay reasons that mitigation and adaptation strategies need to work in synergy in order to address the situation effectively. The three problems caused by climate change are, rise in sea level, varied energy demand, and water scarcity. Firstly, the impact on costal areas contributing to sea level rise has made low lying cities vulnerable to them. Hunt and Watkiss (2011, p. 32) estimates that a 50 m raise in sea level would render Mumbai s informal communities in severe despair. Moreover, climate change will lead to variation in energy demand. Through Smiley s characters Larry, Caroline, Ginny and Rose, it is easy to conclude that they contrast their parallels, Lear, Cordelia, Goneril and Rose, greatly from Shakespeare s play. Among the multiple themes that make this conclusion possible, the most prominent are the contrasting themes of relationships, outcomes, character development and motivations. A bridge engineer must take into account a wide variety of loads which may vary based on the duration of the load (permanent or temporary), the direction of the load (vertical, longitudinal, etc.), and the effect of the load (shear, bending, torsion, etc.). In order to form a consistent basis for design, organizations like AASHTO, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, have developed a set of standard loading conditions which are applied to the engineer s design model of the structure. This gives us a good reminder that while we are discussing the structure s individual components, we can not lose sight of the structure as a whole. Temporary loads are those loads, which are placed on a bridge for only a short period of time. Just as dead loads are the permanent loading condition, live loads represent the major temporary loading condition. There are, however, several other classes of temporary loads, which the designer must consider. The temporary loads are: vehicle live load, earthquake live load, wind loading, channel forces, centrifugal forces, impact forces, and erection loads. The term live load means a load that moves along the length of a span. Therefore, a person walking along the bridge can be considered live load. Obviously, a highway bridge ... Like any instrument, each one produces a different sound. Some may sound light like a snare, deep like a bass, or metronomic by simply producing a clicking noise to keep count. Some are completely electronic, even. Starting from one of the oldest drums in the world, the slit drum is an instrument originating from Africa that is made from a hollow piece of wood or carved from bamboo. They are typically made with three slits, (hence the name slit drum ) each one producing a different tone. Like most drums, slit drums can be played using rubber mallet or with the tips of your finger tips. Unlike today, where we have telephones and social media to talk to one another long distantly, this instrument was once, and probably still is, used as a form of communication. For war cries, signaling, storytelling, and ceremonies. The djembe drum is made somewhat like the slit drum. Made with a hardwood that is hollowed out, however, this drum is made with a piece of animal hide covering the top of it. It is also a bit like the slit drum in a sense that it is mainly ... After it is cut down, typically the wood is custom fitted to specifically fit the drummer. • 33. The No Chiuld Left Behind Act Essay Change is inevitable. When the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) initiative finally became defunct, a new accountability system emerged. In San Francisco Unified School District, central administrative teams began a transition phase starting as early as four to five years ago when Common Core State Standards were introduced to low performing schools. As the Instructional Reform Facilitator during that time, it was exciting because new and more robust learning/content standards also required a change in our approach to instruction and assessment. This was the lever in my mind that this could help close the achievement gap. However this new initiative also brings uncertainty and apprehension for many teachers. When I began my first year as... My theory of action was if I help teachers build instructional capacity by developing and improving their backwards planning or curriculum mapping (identifying essential standards) and enhance their data analysis approach, will they make a shift from following a script to making effective instructional decisions based on the specific needs of students. My strategic actions were to plan and design professional development opportunities that would enhance the teachers instructional practices and differentiate my support for them through professional learning communities, informal walkthroughs, and formal evaluation processes. During one of our professional development days in the week before school started, we spent an entire day reviewing the curriculum mapping process and began identifying the most essential standards and learning outcomes for students. One subtle indicator was that only two teachers demonstrated understanding about the importance of using assessment results to plan their first two weeks of lessons. One suggested that they would begin with a writing prompt to determine where students were in their narrative writing, and the other expressed the urgency to administer the reading assessment so that she could put her students in reading groups. Analysis Of The Article The Pelican Brief The Wetlands In Grisham s novel, The Pelican Brief, he presents a case where an organization attempts to protect the coastal marshes of Louisiana against the selfish oil companies and citizens that wish to destroy it for money. This is a tremendous concern that people deal with in America. John Grisham wrote The Pelican Brief, in 1992 and it was one of his best selling books. Louisiana s marshes are being destroyed and are suffering greatly because of humans. Grisham shows extensive knowledge of the wetlands as well as the wildlife through discussing the endangered Brown Pelican and how humans have brought it to the brink of extinction. Numberless amounts of waterfowl, birds, and countless species that call Louisiana home are now being terrorized thanks to non native species, humans and a numerous amount of different causes. The Brown Pelican, Louisiana s state bird, has been endangered until 1995, and about half of all the geese in North America spend the winter in the coastal marshes (Elliott, Charles). Additionally, Louisiana is the leading state for the number of wintering ducks (ВЁSGPВЁ). The marshes are extremely important to the fowl that live there year round and for the ones that do not. The Bobwhite Quail, that live there year round, have suffered huge losses to their population. From 1966 they have declined 75%, primarily due to habitat degradation (ВЁSGPВЁ). Results also revealed that stretching had detrimental effects on the repeated sprint ability test. The physical aspects of the things they carried, the men could get a respite by setting them down for a moment, but the mental things could not be dropped so easily, in fact most men always carried this weight, thus making the mental weight upon their shoulders more tedious to deal with. The biggest mental struggles the men dealt with were those of the memories flashing across their minds of fellow comrades dying, the emotional weight of men not knowing if the man they are standing next to may die that day, memories from home and the war, both shameful and joyous, the turmoil of day to day life in an alien land, and embarrassment. O Brien expands on this by saying, They carried the soldier s greatest fear, which was a fear of blushing. Men killed, and died, because they were embarrassed not to. It was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, no dreams of glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor (Belasco 1469). She is presented as greedy and neglectful of the inherent spirituality in things, and possibly had false intentions behind sending Luke away. It seems this is a warning from Wordsworth. It is also valuable to note that Michael s troubles begin when his nephew defaults on a loan. However, the poem never labels him as nephew but instead, his brother s son (211). If Michael s name is meant to conjure the name of the archangel Michael, it can t be ignored that one of the brothers of that archangel is Satan. Viewing the name this way creates a parallel which makes Michael s nephew a quasi son of evil. Because of the nephew s industrious life (212), he is disconnected from the land and therefore amoral. With these instances of naming, Wordsworth seems to be commenting on how morality is connected to living life by means of nature rather than by means of material or industry. Turning now to allusions that inspire hope, we look towards Robert s Sunday clothes in The Ruined Cottage. Still in its place. Because of kogwayay s branching terminology, kogwayay is also the Gebusi s word for ethnicity, the identification with a cultural group because of shared values customs and beliefs, while inversely excluded from different groups. One aspect that contributes to the Gebusi s sense of kogwayay is religion. Such a view implies changing individuals over time, and consequently a life span perspective on development of personal death meanings and related death fears. The objective was to stage a limited war in an effort to further contain the Russian troops in the region and exhaust any possibility they had of rebuilding their resources to counter Japanese attack. Japan was smart, they knew they could not sustain fighting and continue to pull out victories if Russiawas able to replenish and rebuild.
