Determining the Relationship between Postnatal Depression...
CHAPTER 4
4.1 Search Strategy
The main purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between postnatal depression and
peer support by way of reviewing primary research articles. The search strategy adopted for this study
can be broken down into several steps. The key concepts and terminologies for the study were
identified. The synonyms of the terms were then determined which were also included within the
search terms. Boolean operators were the chosen search features. Databases from which the literature
search would be conducted were chosen. Using Boolean operators, different search expression were
created and the search conducted. The results were evaluated and the inclusion exclusion criteria
applied to get the articles that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Table 4.2.2: showing the key terminology as identified by the PICO framework and their synonyms
According to Kumar (2013), Boolean operators can be used to restrict and widen the search results in
a systematic way. As such, different key terms as identified by the PICO framework were combined
with different Boolean operators and the results obtained evaluated using the Inclusion exclusion
criteria for their suitability as study articles. Some of the expressions there were generated from the
combination of Boolean operators and the search terminology include postnatal depression OR
Postpartum depression OR perinatal depression AND peer support OR Social support OR lay support

Addictions A Banquet In The Grave Summary
The book Addictions A Banquet in the Grave was very informative. I viewed the purpose of the book
as being for the author to share his beliefs about several things. He explained his belief about how the
Bible speaks about addictions, addresses the issue of addictions, the spiritual side of addictions that
get disregarded during counseling and how the bible is a really important tool to use to address
addictions. His book also gave me an overview of the spiritual realism of addictions. Moreover, the
book is divided into two parts. Part one of the book was a theological viewpoint. For example, Jim s
story is one of the stories used to help the reader understand the nature of addiction. Jim struggled
with his alcohol addiction. He had been sober for years and he mentioned how he is angry at God
because of his alcohol addiction. He compared himself to most people whom he stated do not have to
struggle to stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Jim was considered to be well educated in biblical theology. It was identified that Jim
operates out of two contrary systems and he does not know what to believe. His struggles are with
temptations. Furthermore explained was how looking to scripture was something we did and since the
psychotherapeutic of the 1960 s the Christian community looks to secular psychotherapies for
guidance of how to live successfully. Welch, struggles with the thought of addiction being a sin,
sickness, or both. While reading the book Welch opens up the door for us to view the problem of
addiction differently. While I was reading the book I started falling into the thought that he wanted us
to review treating addiction through a different lens such as the lens of scripture. For example, Welch
mentions that when our desires are conflicting to with scripture, human beings do not always live
according to our

The Perception Of The Human Eye
Introduction
According to the dictionary, a sensation is the operation or function of the senses; perception or
awareness of stimuli through the senses, while a perception is the act or faculty of perceiving, or
apprehending by means of thesenses or of the mind; cognition; understanding. The eye is defined as
white membrane that contains an opening for light to get to the retina. The eye is developed in a way
that it receives physical stimuli like light and send it to the brain as an electrical signal that is
responsible for interpreting signals as images (Goldstein, Humphreys, Shiffrar, Yost, and Wiley, 2005).
Among the animals, human vision is regarded as the most sophisticated. The three primary layers of
the eye include choroid, retina, and cornea. Furthermore, the human eye is responsible for the complex
color perception that is initiated and instigated by cones in the retina and complicated by the
integrating impulse in the brain.
The process of sight
All the vision is based upon the perception of the electromagnetic rays. These beams then pass
through cornea as light and get into the eye through the pupil. The pupil performs the function of a
gatekeeper because it allows less or much light to enter to enable an individual to see an image clearly
(Goldstein, 2010). Iris is the pigmented area, which is around the pupil, and it acts as a sphincter.
Furthermore, iris has two layers that are responsible for changing the quantity of light that enters the
eye (Goldstein,

28th Amendment Benefits
The proposal of the twenty eighth amendment is that no Supreme Court justice shall serve any more
than 18 full years as a judge on the Supreme Court. A term of 18 years is suggested most often
because this length would allow presidents to appoint one member every two years (or two every
term, which is approximately the historical average) but would not allow them, even if elected to two
terms, to appoint a majority of the court. The constitution does not clearly specify any limit to the
number of Supreme Court justices nor the length of their terms. In this proposal for the 28th
amendment, not only gives term limits, but also sets a mental competency exam for every fifth year
and proposes vetting every second year. The founding fathers did ... Show more content on

The most common thought about lifetime tenure is that the Founding Fathers wanted to protect the
Justices from political pressure. Justices spend so many years on the court that they are not easily
influenced by the current political culture, therefore some argue that term limits are not necessary.
Taken together, the evidence does not support the argument that, measured either by age or length of
service, lifetime tenure on the Supreme Court needs to be modified or abolished. Doubtless there are
examples of justices who time their departures in just such a fashion, but statistical assessments that
sort out the relative impact of the factors that might lead a justice to retire suggest that the justices
have retired principally because of ill health and the availability of pension benefits. If this quote were
true, Chief Justice John Rehnquist, when diagnosed with thyroid cancer and Justice Ginsburg,
undergoing surgery for colon cancer, would have most probably retired for these health reasons. ... the
Court is a group consisting almost entirely of senior citizens, several of whom have battled serious
health problems. Compounding these concerns is the fact that the responsibility for determining when
a member of the Court may no longer be fully fit for the job is left to the discretion of the individual
justice, who obviously may not be in the best position to render an objective judgment about his or her

Ap Biology Chapter 1 Essay
1. Before, biologists assumed all microbes are bad for the human body (automatically thought of
pathogens), caused many diseases and harm our body fundamental systems. In addition, the biologists
think that our body is already built which had all the functions required to maintain our health.
However, the attitude has changed over the last decade. The biologists characterized the most
prevalent species of microbes in the body, and found out that these collective microbes do not threaten
us, and they also are important part of human bodies.
2. There are approximately 3.3 million genes (according to the European s census of microbial genes)
in the human digestive system. In comparison, it is about 150 times the count of 20,000 25,000 genes
our own gene.

These are some of the proposed functions of our microbiome. First of all, scientists have known for
years that gut bacteria break down certain components of good that would otherwise be indigestible
and would pass out of the body unused. In addition, Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron breaks down
carbohydrate, also capable of breaking down the large, complex carbohydrates found in plant. It also
has genes that code for more than 260 enzymes capable of digesting plant matter. Helicobacter Pylori
is a disease causing bacterium, however, H. pylori benefits the body by helping to regulate levels of
stomach acids, thus creating an environment that suits itself and it host, and surprisingly, plays a role
in regulating two hormones in appetite (ghrelin). This function greatly help most children in the U.S.

caused alterations in the compositions of their intestinal microbiome. This caused the rising of
childhood obesity, and overproduction of

Symbolism in The Farming Of Bones
In The Farming of Bones, a story based on tragic real life events written by Edwidge Danticat, a
Haitian girl named Amabelle attempts to establish a new life for herself in the neighboring Dominican
Republic after the tragic deaths of both her parents. After establishing herself in the Dominican town
of Alegria as a servant for a Dominican family, Amabelle s whole way of life is once again turned
upside down when Generalissimo Rafael Trujillo orders the slaughter of Haitians who are occupying
the Dominican Republic (Derby). Of the many themes and symbols used in this story the most
prominent of them is water. (Scribd Inc.) While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the crossing a member of their group is shot by a Dominican soldier and another drowns in the
water. We see here that life is once again being represented by the river, the lives of two individuals
were taken attempting to cross over the border but at the same time a new life awaited Amabelle and
Yves in their native country and for Amabelle the hope for her still remained that she may be able to
locate Sebastien. Once they arrived in Haiti, Amabelle and Yves eventually settled at the family home
of Yves and lived there for many years. During her time in Haiti Amabelle frequently pondered the
fate of her lover Sebastien the people she formerly served in the Domincian Republic. Soon her
curiosity gets the best of her and Amabelle arranges to once again cross the border into the Dominican
Republic and visit her old home where she lived as a servant, to do this she would once again have to
cross over the water, albeit this time by bridge. After crossing over the bridge Amabelle Is driven back
to Alegria, were she first encountered Sebastian and were she believed that Senora Valencia might still
live. After she arrives in Alegria Amabelle finds that Senora Valencia is in fact still alive and located in
the same town. Amabelle locates Senora Valencia and after a brief discussion of the events that have
occurred in the many years since they have seen each other, Amabelle requests one thing from Senora

Brain Stimulation Experiment
In this experiment to find out the effect that stimulation has on the brain fuction of young kids/test
subjects. The independent variable was the environment that the rats were placed into. Also the
ambience of the cages were also altered for the outcome of the experiment. These changes were
crucial to the experiment because it symbolizes the different atmospheres a child can grow up in and
how the presence of or lack of stimulating objects can affect the child s brain development. The
dependent variable which is what was measure was amount of cell growth in the brain of the rats as
well as the levels of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase which is located in the brain. This is able to
speed up transmission of impulses through brain cells which means that the more of this enzyme
found, the more advanced brain function the rat has. Another dependent variable was whether the rat s

validity. This also means that someone at a different lab would be able to recreate the experiment.

Personal Narrative-Track Journey
When first thinking about my greatest achievement throughout high school I got stuck. I sat long and
hard thinking about what moment throughout my entire high school career was I most proud at being
myself. The moment that I will forever be the most proud of myself comes from my junior year track
season. In general, my junior year track season was arguably one of my best running season in my
career for running. But, the city meet 800m race that season shined the brightest out of everything. In
Livonia, Michigan, we have three different public high schools. So, once a year we get all the schools

feeling on top of the world excited to go run the open 800m. When I got my position on the starting
line, I was lined up to a boy named Will Hengy. The week before the city meet my school had a dual
meet against the school he runs for. During the open 800m race that meet, him and I were shoulder to
shoulder coming down to the last 100m of the race and he barely beat me by 0.2 of a second. After
that race I told myself in my mind I would never let myself lose a close race to him ever again. Seeing
him lined up right next to me with a #1 on his shoulder and my shoulder only having a #5 on it made
me mad. The gun goes off and the race begins. After the first 400m of the race in I was in 3rd place
right next to Will. This position felt bitter sweet and I knew I had to come through this time around. It
was almost like deja vu, when we hit the 700m part of the race Will and I were shoulder to shoulder
once again. This time though I would not expect losing to him and beat him by 0.02 of a second and

Miley Cyrus s Influence On Society
What Miley Cyrus Really Stands For
In today s popular culture a big topic of discussion is pop singer, Miley Cyrus. She was a former star
on Disney Channel s Hannah Montana and now we have all seen her transformation from a girl to a
woman. To avoid fading away like many other celebrity teen stars as they aged, Miley decided to
reinvent herself as an adult musician by pushing the limits. Many people only see Miley Cyrus for her
unadulterated VMA Performances and her frowned upon behavior, which most individuals don t care
to get to know. There is another side of Miley that has made a huge impact on society and has reached
new levels in giving back to the community. Miley has dedicated herself to feminism, improving
society s image of women, leading the fight against LGBTQ discrimination, charity work, and using
social media to expose societal issues.
Most people don t know that Miley is feminist. She stands for up for women s equality and wants
everyone to feel accepted for who they are in this world no matter what their story has been along the
way. In an interview with BBC Radio 1 s Newsbeat Miley claims to be one of the biggest feminists in
the world. As Miley explains:
For me, it s not even that I m a feminist. I m for anybody. I m for everybody, for everything. I don t
care what you want to do in your life, or whom you want to be with, which you want to love, who you
want to look like. I m a feminist in the way that I m really empowering to women.

Cain Cain s Life Essay
Cain Cain grew up as the very first child in the world. He was the son of Adam and Eve, the
handcrafted creations of God at the beginning of time. Cain grew up with a younger brother named
Abel. He worked as a gardener while Abel was a herdsman. The turning point in Cain s life was
during harvest time when he brought a sacrifice of vegetables to God while his brother brought the
best lamb he had. God accepted Abel s offering but rejected Cain s. This threw Cain into an
uncontrollable rage in which he planned the murder of his brother. Even though God warned Cain to
subdue his evil intentions, Cain murdered his brother. This caused God to curse Cain as an endless
wonderer. Cain s sin was infected into all his descendants to the point of God whipping the slate clean
in a flood only to save Cain s brother s second brother Seth s descendant Noah and his family.
Isaac Isaac was the long anticipated son of Abraham and Sarah. He was the son of the promise in
which God gave to Abraham. However, Isaac was born into a hostile environment because of is half

Isaac won and Ishmael moved out. Tragically, Isaac s life just about came to an end when his father
obeyed the instructions of the Lord and headed to Mount Moriah to sacrifice him as a burnt offering.

Psychological Trauma In Edwidge Danticat s Breath, Eyes...
Trauma in Breath, Eyes Memory Psychological trauma is one way a distressing event can affect
someone, and can lead to long term post traumatic stress disorders. The novel Breath, Eyes, Memory
by Edwidge Danticat follows the life of a young girl, Sophie, who leaves her home in Haiti to live
with her mother in New York. Her mother, Martine, is a survivor of rape and testing , a method used
by mothers to determine whether their daughters are still virgins. Sophie is tested by Martine during
her teenage years, and is also subject to emotional abuse by her. Throughout the novel, both Martine
and Sophie s struggles are depicted as they contend with their burdens. Danticat uses characterization
and plot structure to illustrate the significant, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through her use of plot, Danticat shows how deeply and strongly trauma can affect a person. One way
the plot supports this theme is through conflict. After a while of living with Sophie, Martine begins to
suspect her of having a boyfriend. She then begins to test Sophie, as well as emotionally neglecting
her. This affects Sophie deeply, enough to drive her to a drastic act of self harm: she breaks her own
hymen with a pestle. Sophie describes the deed: My flesh ripped apart as I pressed the pestle into it. I
could see the blood dripping down onto the bed sheet. I took the pestle and bloody sheet and stuffed
them into a bag. It was gone, the veil that always held my mother s finger back every time she tested
me (88). This illustrates the lengths Sophie would go to in order to escape her mother s abuse, as well
as the strength of her resolve. She completed her act with the resolution of carrying a scar forever.
From this quote, it can be inferred that Sophie felt so cornered she felt injuring herself was her only
way out. As the book progresses, Sophie must face her own feelings about her mother, who has
sexually and emotionally abused her. Her conflict is focused on her struggle to figuring out how to
interact with her mother,

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this design project was to investigate the effect of various design and operating
parameters on the thermal efficiency, net work output per unit mass, and back work ratio of a
regenerative Brayton cycle. Specifically, these parameters include the pressure ratio, TminTmax ratio,
regenerator effectiveness, and compressor and turbine efficiencies, assuming the working fluid to be
air at 100kPa and 300K at the compressor inlet. Model calculations are presented ... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to their low overall thermal efficiencies, gas turbines initially had limited uses. As time has
passed, many renovations have been implemented to the gas turbine cycle to make it more efficient.
Some modifications include: increasing the turbine inlet temperatures, increasing the efficiencies of
turbo machinery components, and adding modifications to the basic cycle. In contrast to the ideal
cycle, the actual cycle undergoes unavoidable pressure drops during the heat addition and heat
rejection processes. In addition, the actual work input to the compressor is always more than the
output and the actual work output of the turbine is less than the work input due to irreversibility. These
relationships are displayed in the figures below:
Four other common modifications to the simple ideal and actual Brayton cycles include: 1)
Regeneration 2) Reheat 3) Intercooling 4) Regeneration with Reheat and Intercooling
The only methods amongst these choices that improve the overall thermal efficiency of the ideal
Brayton cycle are those that utilize regeneration. However, each of these four improvements also
increase the initial cost of building the equipment as well as the maintenance cost for the cycle. Thus,
deciding which power cycle to build depends on economics as much as it depends on engineering.

Operant Conditioning Program Analysis
A weight loss program in a month is a hard obstacle to tackle. If a roommate is in need of help so that
he can lose weight to make the football team, there are ways in which you can help. A behavior
modification program can be set up to help the roommate. To begin, the principles of operant
conditioning will get him started on his weight loss journey. In order for a successful program we need
to use positive reinforcement, progress reports, and a schedule of reinforcement.
First off, the most effective way one should create a behavior modification program is based upon the
ideas of operant conditioning. Operant conditioning is: learning controlled by the consequences of the
organism s behavior. There are two main categories of operant conditioning. ... Show more content on

A variable interval schedule works on an average time schedule, with the actual interval varying
randomly. A variable schedule is shown to cultivate more positive rates of response than a consistent
schedule. Meanwhile the roommate will be partially reinforced. This means that he will not be
reinforced for every time that he loses weight, but only at random intervals. This partial reinforcement
is shown to slow down the extinction rates of the desired behavior. Next, we will set the average time
interval to be five days. For example, after the first day of the month when the roommate is initially
weighed, we will weigh him seven days after the initial weigh in, and then 3 days after that. By doing
this, the average weigh in time is still five days. However, the actual interval is still at random. Lastly,
only various times that the roommate loses weight, he will receive his gold star as a stimulus for
positive reinforcement. After one month of receiving positive reinforcement in the form of a gold star,
the roommate will understand what he should be doing to lose weight.
In conclusion, using the principle of positive reinforcement in this program will successfully help the
roommate to lose weight and to gain a position on the football team. By using positive reinforcement
and a variable interval schedule of reinforcement, the behavior modification program will be

Essay about Purpose of Ruth
The Book of Ruth, although one of the smallest books in the Old Testament, has many values
displayed in its mere four chapters. Throughout the book, readers are shown the struggle of Ruth and
her mother in law, Naomi, as they try to survive in a patriarchal world. In chapter one Ruth and Naomi
s initial endeavor is revealed. Both Naomi and Ruth s husbands die and they are left abandoned, but
together, after Ruth refuses to leave Naomi. By chapter two Naomi and Ruth have made it to
Bethlehem and Ruth encounters Boaz for the first time while gleaning in his fields. Chapter three is
when Ruth and Boaz start to form a romantic relationship; after Naomi tells Ruth to go to the
threshing floor and lay at Boaz feet. Ruth obeys and when Boaz is ... Show more content on

Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with my, be it ever so severely,
if anything but death separates you and me. ( Life Application Study Bible 382)
Ruth shows her true faith and loyalty for God, which any and every modern Christian should strive to
mirror. However Rush s loyalty is also shown for Naomi in verses sixteen through eighteen. Naomi
pleads with Ruth to go back to her family. Ruth, despite the fact that she is defying Naomi, refuses to
return home. Ruth unlike other biblical characters does not let her loyalty stop at merely following
orders given to her. Instead Mira Morgenstern author of Ruth and the Sense of Self: Midrash and
Difference comments that Ruth affirms that she will always do what is [ethically and religiously]
demanded of her, but will utilize methodologies consonant with her own judgment (16). Ruth remains
loyal to Naomi despite Naomi s objections because Ruth is certainly doing what she thought was best
for Naomi. By staying with Naomi, Ruth makes unexpected personal sacrifices. Ruth does not only
remain loyal to God, but she also remains loyal to her kin even if the price seems too steep, because
she knows her God will always provide. Twenty first century Christians could learn many lessons
from Ruth s unwavering relinquishment for her people and her God. Ruth does not only offer loyalty
but also provides Naomi with a source of stability. It can be said that Ruth takes on a man s

Yorkville City Tax Case Study
As the city manager of Yorkville city I have been presented with a 1% tax income proposal on behalf
of the members of the city council in order to accumulate around 1 million dollars yearly to decrease
the current deficit that the city has of $650,000.The city council is asking me to hand out flyers to
promote this tax to the voters in order to pass the proposal with the city residents support in the next
coming elections. I would personally analyze the proposal and the reasons why there is such a bad
deficit of $650,000 and I would also find the specific measures taken by the city council or previous
city officials to work on the issue. The information should be gathered in different areas such as
accountability, new city programs and expenses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this specific case the dichotomy will involved the request made by the seven members of the city
council who are usually elected every two years and whose responsibility is to rectified my current
position. The support that the city council is asking for seems to be purely political, and the council
also expects my full support while presenting face on this 1 % income tax proposal in front of city
residents. That is a dichotomy where a public server like me gets frequently involved. However,
Frederickson (2015) also states that as a public administrator there is an inherent duty of policy
legitimacy and an ethical obligation to protect the interests of the underrepresentated. It is also
expected to administer city affairs according to the law, and bureaucratic standards of efficiency as
well as fairness (Frederickson,pg.20). If the council 1 % increase tax proposal does not benefit the
majority of the city s population, I would personally try to create a plan to address the deficit by
proposing a plan to evaluate, eliminate or preserve city programs. I would present this plan in the next
meeting and I would also politely express that I do not think it is appropriate for me to go around door
to door handing out

The Primary Market Structures And Marketing Efforts, And...
Summary
This report looks at the four primary market structures, with a focus on two. Within each of these two
market structures, this report will examine an industry, summarizing industry operations and
characteristics, advertising and marketing efforts, and the principal agent problem.
Market Structures
There are four basic market structures, each determined by the number of firms in the market and the
dynamics of competition. They are perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly, and monopolistic
competition. (Flynn, n.d.)
A market structure with perfect competition has a number of firms all offering an identical product. A
firm with a monopoly has no competition; this market structure is also called imperfect competition
due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company s name became synonymous with film. When Polaroid introduced instant film, it too
had a corner on its market as the only company with this technology.
In effect, a monopoly restricts free trade as it has no competition. A monopolistic firm is a price setter,
having the ability to set the price for a product that has no competition and no readily available
substitutes. (Price Maker, n.d.)
Another characteristic of a monopoly is its barriers to entry. These can include high start up costs,
control of natural resources, government regulations or restrictions, patents or copyrights, and
exclusive rights. A perfect example of a monopoly is a utility; this report will analyze electric utilities
as a monopoly.
Perfect Competition
Perfect competition, at the other end of the spectrum, has a large number of firms that all make or sell
the exact same product, such as beef or milk. These firms are price takers as there is no one firm that
can influence price. (Price Taker, n.d.) If one firm tried to raise prices or cut back production to
influence supply and demand there are several other companies to which consumers can take their
business.
Other characteristics of perfect competition include little or no exit or entry barriers, small market
share for each competitor, and price transparency to consumers. (Perfect Competition, n.d.) To better
understand the concept of perfect competition,

My Passion For Music And The Music Industry
I have always had a passion for music and the music industry, and my parents and I both knew that I
was not going for school, unless it was for something music related. The music industry is such a
broad category and there are so many moving parts within this sector. I chose music promotion for my
career project, because it would allow me to go in and out of different departments within the music
industry, along being able to work alongside creative individuals for artists. Pursuing a career in music
promotion would allow me to have my cake and eat it too, so to speak.

You do not need a specific degree or even a higher level of education in order to be successful in this
industry. This industry, and a career in music promotion is all about networking, ambition, a tenacious
attitude and a passion for your work. Unlike many other professions, the daily workload is not a fixed
amount or even a fixed measure of time. There may be day where you are working from sun up to sun
down, meeting other record executives or members, making phone calls left and right, or on the road
traveling to your next event. But then, there might be some moments when your job is to solely make
sure the artists you are managing are getting to their venues on time and meeting all the appropriate
industry people. Although all of this can seem quiet fast pace and a bit chaotic, one of the many
benefits of this career is the expectation that the artists you are promoting have of you. What do I
mean by that? The artists actually expect you to hang out with them for the night after a big show, or
even right before shows. These artists are always down to party, and they need a crew to have fun
with, and as a music promoter, you are a part of this crew! There are not many other industries with
this same expectation.
Like I mentioned earlier, a career in music promotion does not require a specific degree or level of
certification, but that does

Judith Butler s Theory Of Performativity In The Queer Theory
This research intends to shed light on Performativity as a crucial notion in gender studies. The term
Performativity, has emerged primarily thorough the publication of the philosopher Judith Butler s

ongoing process and will even change over time. Overall gendered performances existed since before

Significance Of The Number Seven In Poetry
Before being used by human beings as scientific symbols, the numbers played a symbolic and
mythological role in human life. The connection between the life of the primitive man with the
numbers has certainly been more, if not less, than today. In the current study, the number 7 has been
considered as one of the most efficient mythological symbols and archetypes in the contemporary
poetry to investigate into the role of this mythological number in the perspective of contemporary
poets. The number seven is a symbol of perfection and a combination of three and four. Three is a
symbol of female and four is a symbol of male and that s why it has drawn a lot of attention. Many of
the symbolic and ancient roles of this number are still used in the subconscious of today s human

Potential Solutions For High Youth Unemployment
Question How can the high levels of What are potential solutions for high youth unemployment in
Australia be solved, and what are its implications on inequality for young Australians? I. Introduction
High levels of unemployment have many negative effects, including rising inequality, which is a
major issue in developed economies such as Australia (REF). Income, and wealth inequality are the
two main types of inequality examined in economics. Income Distribution Income distribution refers
to how the total income of a nation is distributed between the population. An economy with high
income inequality will have the majority of the income distributed to a minority of the population

Economies attempt to maintain unemployment as low as economically sustainable (referred to as the
natural rate of unemployment), because high unemployment creates several issues in an economy
(REF). Both unemployment and underemployment are heavily linked to high levels of inequality, as
such young Australians are more likely to experience inequality (REF). The focus of this inquiry will
be on inequality and unemployment in young Australians. II. Issues High unemployment (and
underemployment) have several costs on Australian society. One of the key impacts of high
unemployment are the heightened levels of inequality (REF). As young Australians experience higher
unemployment (and underemployment) than the average Australian, they also experience significantly
higher levels of inequality (REF). Economy High levels of youth unemployment (and
underemployment), leads to the economy functioning inefficiently (functioning below the Production
Possibility Frontier [PPF]) (REF). Furthermore, a high rate of unemployment means that young
Australians lack the appropriate skills required in the workforce, thus more time and money is
required from the employer to train the young Australians to be able to participate in the workplace
(REF). High levels of youth unemployment result in individuals possessing lower disposable incomes,
consequently there is lower aggregate demand. As demand for labour is derived demand, the high
levels of youth unemployment will result

Developmental Math Syllabus
Essay 1
I teach developmental mathematics courses for struggling math students at the Community College of
Philadelphia. For many students, this is where the community college experience begins in a remedial
arithmetic or algebra class, reviewing mathematics concepts they learned, or should have learned,
before they graduated from high school. As I reviewed the course syllabus and class requirements on
the first day of a new semester, Scott, an older male student shouted out a barrage of questions: What
do we need this for? Can we take tests over? How many classes can we miss? His tone was hostile,
and all eyes were fixed on me and my reaction.

I teach in a computer lab and incorporate technology in the classroom. I use a supplemental online
program by Pearson Education, Math Lab Plus (MLP), to reinforce the material. The program has an
online discussion component. To foster a sense of community in the classroom, the first assignment I
post is for students to write a brief bio about themselves, including their goals and aspirations for
taking the course. I respond to each entry to make sure students know they are seen and heard and that
I care about their success. As part of their participation grade, students are required to respond to two
other students in the course. This helps them recognize they are part of a community of learners and
not just another student lost in the crowd. Students are placed in cooperative learning groups where
they work with a partner to improve their understanding of different math concepts.
Additionally, I use a toolbox of leadership strategies that are implemented throughout the semester
including: reflective practice, naming and reframing the questions that arise and analyze the results,
integrating theory into practice. Carl Buehner said, They may forget what you said, but they will never
forget how you made them feel.

Male View of Hysteria Presented in The Yellow Wallpaper
Male View of Hysteria Presented in The Yellow Wallpaper
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper has been viewed as either a work of
supernatural horror or as a feminist treatise regarding the role of women in society. A close analysis of
Gilman s use of symbols reveals The Yellow Wallpaper as her response to the male view of hysteria
from ancient times through the nineteenth century. In The Yellow Wallpaper Gilman questions the
validity of Hippocrates s theory of the wandering uterus and Weir Mitchell s rest cure . As she wrote in
her essay Why I Wrote the Yellow Wallpaper? , [the story] was not intended to drive people crazy, but
to save people from being driven crazy... (107). By her own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hippocrates explained that the various symptoms of hysteria, such as nervousness, depression, and
hysterical fits, were caused by the uterus s interactions with the other organs in the body. In his text
On the Nature of Women he explains the cause and treatment of a hysterical fit:
If the uterus comes towards the liver, the female suddenly becomes speechless, and clenches her teeth,
and her color comes back...In such situations, push beneath the liver with the hand and tighten a
bandage beneath the hypochondria, and by opening the mouth administer a most fragrant wine, and
anoint the nostrils and apply malodorous fumigations. And fragrant fumigations below the uterus.
(Palis 227)
Not only was the uterus capable of wandering around the body, it was believed that the womb was
attracted and repelled by certain odors.
Gilman seems to address the ridiculousness of such logic when she refers to the inconsistencies in the
design of the wallpaper in The Yellow Wallpaper. The narrator complains, On a pattern like this, by
daylight, there is a lack of sequence, a defiance of law, that is a constant irritant to a normal mind
(263). This same complaint could be used against the popular view of hysteria. The theory that the
woman s uterus dislodged itself in the body and wandered around aimlessly violates natural law. In
this respect, the ancient view of hysteria is similar to the wallpaper

CHAPTER 4 4.1 Search Strategy The main purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between postnatal depression and peer support by way of reviewing primary research articles. The search strategy adopted for this study can be broken down into several steps. The key concepts and terminologies for the study were identified. • 4. Addictions A Banquet In The Grave Summary The book Addictions A Banquet in the Grave was very informative. I viewed the purpose of the book as being for the author to share his beliefs about several things. He explained his belief about how the Bible speaks about addictions, addresses the issue of addictions, the spiritual side of addictions that get disregarded during counseling and how the bible is a really important tool to use to address addictions. His book also gave me an overview of the spiritual realism of addictions. Moreover, the book is divided into two parts. Part one of the book was a theological viewpoint. For example, Jim s story is one of the stories used to help the reader understand the nature of addiction. Jim struggled with his alcohol addiction. He had been sober for years and he mentioned how he is angry at God because of his alcohol addiction. He compared himself to most people whom he stated do not have to struggle to stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Jim was considered to be well educated in biblical theology. It was identified that Jim operates out of two contrary systems and he does not know what to believe. His struggles are with temptations. Furthermore explained was how looking to scripture was something we did and since the psychotherapeutic of the 1960 s the Christian community looks to secular psychotherapies for guidance of how to live successfully. Welch, struggles with the thought of addiction being a sin, sickness, or both. While reading the book Welch opens up the door for us to view the problem of addiction differently. While I was reading the book I started falling into the thought that he wanted us to review treating addiction through a different lens such as the lens of scripture. For example, Welch mentions that when our desires are conflicting to with scripture, human beings do not always live according to our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Perception Of The Human Eye Introduction According to the dictionary, a sensation is the operation or function of the senses; perception or awareness of stimuli through the senses, while a perception is the act or faculty of perceiving, or apprehending by means of thesenses or of the mind; cognition; understanding. The eye is defined as white membrane that contains an opening for light to get to the retina. The eye is developed in a way that it receives physical stimuli like light and send it to the brain as an electrical signal that is responsible for interpreting signals as images (Goldstein, Humphreys, Shiffrar, Yost, and Wiley, 2005). Among the animals, human vision is regarded as the most sophisticated. The three primary layers of the eye include choroid, retina, and cornea. Furthermore, the human eye is responsible for the complex color perception that is initiated and instigated by cones in the retina and complicated by the integrating impulse in the brain. The process of sight All the vision is based upon the perception of the electromagnetic rays. These beams then pass through cornea as light and get into the eye through the pupil. The pupil performs the function of a gatekeeper because it allows less or much light to enter to enable an individual to see an image clearly (Goldstein, 2010). Iris is the pigmented area, which is around the pupil, and it acts as a sphincter. Furthermore, iris has two layers that are responsible for changing the quantity of light that enters the eye (Goldstein, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. 28th Amendment Benefits The proposal of the twenty eighth amendment is that no Supreme Court justice shall serve any more than 18 full years as a judge on the Supreme Court. A term of 18 years is suggested most often because this length would allow presidents to appoint one member every two years (or two every term, which is approximately the historical average) but would not allow them, even if elected to two terms, to appoint a majority of the court. The constitution does not clearly specify any limit to the number of Supreme Court justices nor the length of their terms. In this proposal for the 28th amendment, not only gives term limits, but also sets a mental competency exam for every fifth year and proposes vetting every second year. The founding fathers did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most common thought about lifetime tenure is that the Founding Fathers wanted to protect the Justices from political pressure. Justices spend so many years on the court that they are not easily influenced by the current political culture, therefore some argue that term limits are not necessary. Taken together, the evidence does not support the argument that, measured either by age or length of service, lifetime tenure on the Supreme Court needs to be modified or abolished. Doubtless there are examples of justices who time their departures in just such a fashion, but statistical assessments that sort out the relative impact of the factors that might lead a justice to retire suggest that the justices have retired principally because of ill health and the availability of pension benefits. If this quote were true, Chief Justice John Rehnquist, when diagnosed with thyroid cancer and Justice Ginsburg, undergoing surgery for colon cancer, would have most probably retired for these health reasons. ... the Court is a group consisting almost entirely of senior citizens, several of whom have battled serious health problems. Compounding these concerns is the fact that the responsibility for determining when a member of the Court may no longer be fully fit for the job is left to the discretion of the individual justice, who obviously may not be in the best position to render an objective judgment about his or her ... Before, biologists assumed all microbes are bad for the human body (automatically thought of pathogens), caused many diseases and harm our body fundamental systems. In addition, the biologists think that our body is already built which had all the functions required to maintain our health. However, the attitude has changed over the last decade. The biologists characterized the most prevalent species of microbes in the body, and found out that these collective microbes do not threaten us, and they also are important part of human bodies. 2. There are approximately 3.3 million genes (according to the European s census of microbial genes) in the human digestive system. This affects Sophie deeply, enough to drive her to a drastic act of self harm: she breaks her own hymen with a pestle. I took the pestle and bloody sheet and stuffed them into a bag. It was gone, the veil that always held my mother s finger back every time she tested me (88). Specifically, these parameters include the pressure ratio, TminTmax ratio, regenerator effectiveness, and compressor and turbine efficiencies, assuming the working fluid to be air at 100kPa and 300K at the compressor inlet. Model calculations are presented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to their low overall thermal efficiencies, gas turbines initially had limited uses. As time has passed, many renovations have been implemented to the gas turbine cycle to make it more efficient. Some modifications include: increasing the turbine inlet temperatures, increasing the efficiencies of turbo machinery components, and adding modifications to the basic cycle. In contrast to the ideal cycle, the actual cycle undergoes unavoidable pressure drops during the heat addition and heat rejection processes. In addition, the actual work input to the compressor is always more than the output and the actual work output of the turbine is less than the work input due to irreversibility. These relationships are displayed in the figures below: Four other common modifications to the simple ideal and actual Brayton cycles include: 1) Regeneration 2) Reheat 3) Intercooling 4) Regeneration with Reheat and Intercooling The only methods amongst these choices that improve the overall thermal efficiency of the ideal Brayton cycle are those that utilize regeneration. However, each of these four improvements also increase the initial cost of building the equipment as well as the maintenance cost for the cycle. Thus,

This partial reinforcement is shown to slow down the extinction rates of the desired behavior. Next, we will set the average time interval to be five days. For example, after the first day of the month when the roommate is initially weighed, we will weigh him seven days after the initial weigh in, and then 3 days after that. However Rush s loyalty is also shown for Naomi in verses sixteen through eighteen. Naomi pleads with Ruth to go back to her family. Ruth, despite the fact that she is defying Naomi, refuses to return home. Ruth unlike other biblical characters does not let her loyalty stop at merely following orders given to her. Instead Mira Morgenstern author of Ruth and the Sense of Self: Midrash and Difference comments that Ruth affirms that she will always do what is [ethically and religiously] demanded of her, but will utilize methodologies consonant with her own judgment (16). I respond to each entry to make sure students know they are seen and heard and that I care about their success. Male View of Hysteria Presented in The Yellow Wallpaper Male View of Hysteria Presented in The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper has been viewed as either a work of supernatural horror or as a feminist treatise regarding the role of women in society. A close analysis of Gilman s use of symbols reveals The Yellow Wallpaper as her response to the male view of hysteria from ancient times through the nineteenth century. In The Yellow Wallpaper Gilman questions the validity of Hippocrates s theory of the wandering uterus and Weir Mitchell s rest cure . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hippocrates explained that the various symptoms of hysteria, such as nervousness, depression, and hysterical fits, were caused by the uterus s interactions with the other organs in the body. In his text On the Nature of Women he explains the cause and treatment of a hysterical fit: If the uterus comes towards the liver, the female suddenly becomes speechless, and clenches her teeth, and her color comes back...In such situations, push beneath the liver with the hand and tighten a bandage beneath the hypochondria, and by opening the mouth administer a most fragrant wine, and anoint the nostrils and apply malodorous fumigations. And fragrant fumigations below the uterus. (Palis 227) Not only was the uterus capable of wandering around the body, it was believed that the womb was attracted and repelled by certain odors. Gilman seems to address the ridiculousness of such logic when she refers to the inconsistencies in the design of the wallpaper in The Yellow Wallpaper. The narrator complains, On a pattern like this, by daylight, there is a lack of sequence, a defiance of law, that is a constant irritant to a normal mind (263). This same complaint could be used against the popular view of hysteria. The theory that the woman s uterus dislodged itself in the body and wandered around aimlessly violates natural law.
