Introduction Of The Policy Report Essay
Brief Introduction of the Policy Report
I am a translator who graduated from Capital TongWen Hall (京师同文馆)and who wrote this
policy report to Qing Government in the year of 1905, when Yuan Shi Kai (袁世凯) and Zhang Zhi
Dong (张之洞) reported to the government to eliminate the Civil Examination. The reason I am
writing this policy report is because I see it is necessary to still keep the exam system, but we surely
need to change the exam system if we do not eliminate it. The old goal of the Civil Examination is to
pick elites from population to work as government official and have a powerful impact on China s
social mobility, and the new goal of it will be accommodating science without eliminating the Civil
Service Examination. However, I am writing to advise and report to try our best to keep both goals in
the exam system. I will talk about the details of why we should not eliminate the exam system, why
we need to change the system and what we are going to change in the system and how we are going to
implement these changes into the system and try to minimize the contradiction between the old
literature elites and new scientific elites. Background
The function of Civil Service Examination is for recruitment and admission to the civil service, and
for the Ancient Chinese government it mainly functioned as a tool to pick literature elites who are
capable to work for the country. It broke the tradition of genealogical monopoly in using people in the
government and it certainly

EFFECT OF EXERCISE TRAINING AND NUTRITION THERAPY ON FUNCTION, FATIGUE,
AND PAIN IN WOMEN WITH FIBROMYALGIA
Research Question: What is the effect of resistance/aerobic training and nutrition therapy on function,
fatigue, and pain in women with FM?
Abstract Background and Significance: Fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms such as pain and fatigue can
have a severe impact on function and quality of life. The exact etiology of FM is unknown,
consequently there is no single best treatment. Studies have shown that exercise plays a role in
modulating adverse symptoms of FM. Aerobic exercise has clearly been shown to improve symptoms,
but strength training still needs further study. Theories have also suggested that nutrition may be
linked to FM; whether it is a cause or effect is still unknown. This study will examine the effects of
exercise training and nutrition therapy on function, fatigue, and pain in women with FM. Subjects and
Methods: Subjects will include 594 women diagnosed with FM. There will be 4 groups: an exercise
group, a nutrition therapy group, an exercise and nutrition therapy group, and a control group who will
receives information on FM. The intervention will last 14 weeks. Weeks 1 7 will be a buildup period
and weeks 8 14 will be a period where subjects exercise for the recommended dose based on the
American College of Sports Medicine guidelines. Follow up measurement will be performed at 6
months. The fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (FIQ), multidimensional fatigue

Analysis Of Coming Of Age In Mississippi By Anne Moody
The book Coming of Age in Mississippi is a memoir written by Anne Moody. The book recounts her
experiences as a young black woman in the Civil Rights Movement, and gives a firsthand account of
many of the historical events during that time period, such as sit ins, protests, and civil unrest. Anne
Moody was a vocal activist and member of organizations such as the NAACP, who spoke out against
racism and segregation. Born in 1940 in rural Mississippi, Anne lives with her parents and her sister
Adline in a two room shack that does not have electricity or plumbing. The shack is on a plantation
owned by white people, the Carter family, who do have those luxuries, and Anne s parents work on the
plantation. Anne s father leaves the family after an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rice, who first told her about the NAACP and civil rights activism. Anne states that Mrs. Rice became
like a mother to her, telling her anything she wanted to know, though she warned Anne that if anyone
else found out she was talking about these things, she would be fired. At the end of the school year,
Mrs. Rice is indeed fired, but Anne does not know why, and she does not see her again. Still, Mrs.
Rice s impact on Anne was the catalyst that led Anne into the civil rights movement, as she learned
that there were things she could do to try to change the way things were. Another important woman is
Mrs. Burke, Anne s racist employer. Mrs. Burke does Anne no favors, but through working for her,
Anne s eyes are opened to the hostility of whites. Mrs. Burke accuses Anne s younger brother of
stealing from her, even though he is innocent. This event leads to Anne quitting the job and choosing
to work as a waitress instead of a maid. She wants to use her earnings to pay for college, so that she
may become educated. Finally, Anne s stepmother plays a significant role in Anne s life. After Anne
leaves her mother s home to move in with her father, she develops a bond with her stepmother, Emma,
who is kind and friendly. She shows compassion to those around her, and even when an altercation
with her brother in law results in her getting her foot shot, she doesn t blame him. Instead, she places
the blame with white society, which makes life so much harder for people like

Neoconservative And Discrimination Against Gays And...
People may not notice little things that others do or say. Something as small as calling someone gay
because they identify themselves as homosexual, could emotionally traumatize them. Examples of
these issues are LGBTQ+ working in a labour intensive employment, and is treated as weak or unfit
for the position, thus being looked down upon. For centuries, people follow the stereotype that people
of a different gender or sexual identity are looked down upon and considered outliers of the society.
Our group will go in depth and demonstrate examples of discrimination against LGBTQ+ in the
workforce, by first analyzing the root of this problem. A few questions that we will evaluating are: if
people dislike LGBTQ+ in the workforce because they are homosexuals, or because they are lacking
in skill, education, experience etc. Second question that ties with the root of the issue is to find out
why majority of people discriminate individuals that identify as LGBTQ+ homosexuals. Lastly, our
group will be explaining different point of views of this issue. We will be using a variety of
frameworks that we have learned in class such as viewing the social problem with a Neoliberal,
Neoconservative and transformative outlook to analyze the social problem. Topics that we can analyze
using these frameworks, include who is at fault or who is to blame within the social problem, how
each framework would try to resolve the social problem, and what are some things that each
framework can do

Mental Illness And Mental Health
Mental health is very important to many people in and around this country. Millions of Americans live
with various types of mental illness and mental health problems. Treatment options often include
medication and psychotherapy. There are several categories of mental illness to include personality
disorders, mood disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and stressor
related disorders, psychotic disorders and many more. Many of these disorders can be referenced in
the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5, APA, 2013). DSM is the most
universal of modern classification systems for mental disorders. These are used by clinicians,
therapist, social workers and other social service professionals to assess and assist in diagnosing
individuals with various symptoms that meet the criteria of a diagnosis. So many people deal with the
symptoms of mental illness and never are able to tell their story. In An Unquiet Mind, by Kay Redfield
Jamison, she recounts her struggles with bipolar disorder and manic depression. She struggled with
her disease for a number of years and it was uplifting on how she was finally able to come to terms
with her illness and be able to manage it. When you think of mood disorders, depression and bipolar
disorder likely come to mind first. That s because these are common, severe illnesses and leading
cause of disability. Depression and bipolar disorder can be emotionally crippling, making it difficult to

Famous Thinkers Paper
Looking back throughout history many famous thinkers have made an impact on society; however, not
as much as Dr. Martin Luther King; a people s man or Mr. Bill Gates a business hero. After
researching these two famous thinkers and their contributions to society I will identify the problems
each wanted to solve, the solutions to the problems and the implementation of those solutions. The
exploration of each thinker s social, political, and personal environments will show how those factors
contributed to their respective creativity, a full comparison of their creative processes, a critique of

He graduated from high school at the age of 15 and went to work in Connecticut. He was surprised
that he could sit or eat wherever he wanted, unlike in the south. In 1953, he moved to Alabama and
began his ministry at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. During this time segregation was at its
height, and he was in a position to speak out for equal rights. Many people were advocating ending
segregation by any means possible, but he believed the best way to promote racial equality was to
organize peaceful nonviolent protest. He thought the use of violence would only hinder the efforts of
the equal right movement. This theory was proven during the protest in Birmingham. Dr. King was
arrested for leading a nonviolent protest. The Birmingham police were dispatched for crowd control
and used violent force against the protestors. Despite the violence the protesters did not retaliate. This
event was also influential in achieving racial equality in the United States. Dr. King was born into a
household deep rooted into the southern black ministry, particularly the southern Baptist. While going
to college to receive his education in ministry, Dr. King made a decision to follow in the actions of his
teacher and the college president, Mr. Benjamin Mays. Benjamin was a public gospel activist who had
dedicated his life to combating racial inequality. Dr. King also went to the Crozer Theological
Seminary in which he studied and learned the idea of nonviolence by Mohandas Gandhi

Descriptive Essay About My Day
In the silent neighborhood of Beall Avenue in Rockville, the alarm echoed for the fifth time to alert me
that it was about five AM in the morning. It was June eighth, the day that I had been anticipating since
I began ninth grade four years ago. High school graduation was finally here. My best friend and I got
up quickly and started our day. Agnes applied foundation on my rough face and filled in my eyebrows.
My lips were painted with rosy mauve and my smooth cheekbones illuminated. My hair was curled
and I was ready to leave my best friend s house. The birds chirped and slow R B jams played from my
car speakers as I made my way to my place. I parked my car, turned the lock, and witness a mess
before me. No one was ready.

At the station platform, there was a sea of diverse faces, some carrying a conversation, and some who
were listening to their early morning tunes. Many were in suits carrying a briefcase on their side while
I was with my flowy white dress, four inch black heels, and a black bag that I held in my hand,
standing next to my family.
The platform lights were blinking, signaling the metro was arriving shortly. Once it docked, the door
opened for some to get off, and some to get in. I had already discerned through the metro s transparent
windows that it barely had space for my family and I. The riders inside were firmly grasping the pole
for support, standing close to each other. My parents had decided then to wait for the next train. I
agreed and we were on the lookout for the next one.
About ten minutes later, another metro had finally appeared, and this one had standing room for the
four of us. It was not unexpected that there would be no seats and we were left standing with no
choice but to appreciate the bittersweet ride on that pleasant morning.
I grasped tightly to the bar, as I stood in my four inch heels trying to hide my annoyance. My feet
were throbbing in pain and there was nothing more that I needed at that moment than a seat. A seat,
that would have comforted me and put my uneasiness to rest. I kept glancing over at my phone to
check the time and saw that time was nearing. I did not utter a single word through the train ride until
we arrived at DuPont Circle. I

Bar And Bat Mizvah In Jewish Culture
Some of the most precious and memorable times in religious communities are when children take
place in a religious ceremony and ritual. For the Jewish community, the bar and bat mitzvahs are very
special and represent one of these cherished and unforgettable times: This is about becoming
something. You re at a time in your life when important changes are happening to you and in you
(Feinstein).
To begin, bar and bat mitzvah is the Hebrew Jewish way of saying the son and daughter of the
commandment . According to the Jewish law, a bar and bat mitzvah ceremony is recognition that a
child has reached spiritual maturity and can now take on the responsibilities of an adult: Spiritual
maturity is the ability to experience the depth and complexity of life ... Show more content on

During the service, the bar or bat mitzvah will lead prayers, chant songs, and read from the Torah.
Next, the parents will usually say a speech at the end to recognize their child for entering a state of
spiritual maturity. The modern bar and bat mitzvahs are usually in the morning and are followed by a
party at night; however, more traditional Jews will have it on the sundown Friday and will not have a
party after. This is because they are not permitted to drive or play music on the Shabbat. Depending on
the family, the party after the service ranges in scale and suspense and they can take place in houses,
halls or restaurants. The parties usually include a meal, speeches and dancing; bar and bat mitzvah
ceremonies can be compared to wedding styles. The child will most likely choose some sort of centre
piece and theme for the tables as well as hiring a dj or a band: A popular feature at bar and bat mitzvah
parties is the candle lighting ceremony, in which the bar or bat mitzvah child lights a series of candles,
choosing to honor different friends and family members with each candle.

Urban Myths Of Urban Legends
Imagine the urban legends from your younger years, a reminiscent of your wildest fears. Your heart
rate gradually increases from the thought, feeling it pump out from your chest. Your breathing staggers
and paranoia surrounds you. You re frozen from fear, yet you can t run or fight it off. As we grow,
urban legends are intended to make us feel specific emotions: as children they instill fear, as
adolescents they re meant more as humorous banter, while as adults, they re forgotten and replaced
with new ones only to be told to a child later one thus far continuing the cycle. In the urban legends:
My Dead Girlfriend , Calls from Beyond , Bed Reckoning , and Carmen Winstead , we live in a fast
track world where our phones as well as social media sites are main factors in our lives. These four
urban legends are made to scare us into being more cautious with who can easily access your or a
loved one s phone and or social media.
Starting with the urban legend titled, My Dead Girlfriend , a man begins receiving messages from his
girlfriend via Facebook. There s nothing seemingly wrong with getting messages from your girlfriend,
right? The only problem with those messages was that the man s girlfriend had died in a car accident
more than over a year ago. Before this creepy story ended up on Snopes.com it was posted on Reddit s
NoSleep community forum, usually a sharing source for original scary stories. This man kept
receiving messages from his dead girlfriend s Facebook

Time Management Strengths And Weaknesses
Makena Kane College Recommendation Brag Sheet
Academic Strengths
Time Management: I am a film producer, and the most important quality is being a good time
manager. On sets, the producer is the one who keeps everyone on task and to schedule. Having good
time oriented brain has led me to be more proactive in my studies and outside activities. Actually,
having anxiety is one of the helpful factors in making me keep on top of deadlines. By being so on top
of time, I have never turned in homework late due to how my anxiety does prevent me from
procrastinating.
Adaptive: Being at an art school, and the fact that I have moved about 8 times in my life, I have
learned to be very adaptive. No matter the situation, location, or people I am with, I will be able to
work and figure out the problem. This has helped in times like my 64 Film Festival, where we have to
film a 7 minute film over a weekend. I have to adapt to where we film and what the script is like to
make schedules, and problems happen at a moment s notice. Without being able to adapt, I would not
have be capable of producing now 3 (successful, might I add) films in this festival.
Critical Thinking: One of my best academic strengths I believe is how much I am a critical thinker.
When working on group projects especially, I am usually the one who plans the structure of what is
happening and the best way to achieve the ultimate goal. I have a very analytical mindset, where I
work best with organized to do lists, making it

Why Russian Businesses Use Technologies
In the world of fierce business competition, technologies often become the principal source of
competitive advantage for firms. Technological innovations have already become the basic measure of
entrepreneurial growth and business success, but only firms that possess unique, inimitable technology
resources can successfully outperform their competitors. State and policy support is crucial for the
successful adoption of technologies by firms. The case of Russia is no exception. Russia possesses a
sophisticated scientific and technology base, but the rates of adoption of technologies in Russian
business remain formidably low. Only a broad government based innovation policy can help Russian
businesses to move forward and to become a part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Businesses in Russia operate in the atmosphere of economic instability and elevated legal risks, which
makes successful adoption of technologies virtually impossible. Although the rates of technology
adoption in Russian business are gradually increasing, the country is still an eternity away from
creating a perfect and profitable business technology synergy.
Russia and Russian businesses are characterized by the growing levels of technology adoption.
Russian businesses rapidly expand their innovative capabilities (Gurkov 299). The more optimistic
Russian CEOs feel about their business future, the higher the rates of technology adoption become
(Gurkov 300). Almost every third entrepreneur and CEO in Russia that enjoys a good or excellent
position in business reports intensive changes in their technological structures and infrastructures
(Gurkov 300). The fact that Russia possesses a sophisticated technology base facilitates the adoption
of technological innovations in Russian firms (Watkins 2). The professionalism of scientific and IT
personnel facilitates the rapid advancement of technologies in Russian business. Russia s technology
and innovation potential is much greater than that of other countries with similar

Sharing Is Not Always Caring
As a teenager, receiving one s very first cell phone is the first step in establishing popularity. Tweeting,
texting, Instagram ing and publishing life s fails and funnies are the teen social norm and staple to the
lines of communication between other teens. Creativity is put to the test when language is turned into

The Effects Of Child Labor On The Chocolate Industry
The Effects of Child Labor in the Chocolate Industry: December 6, 2015, was an important day for
many Americans, as it marked the 150th year since the abolishment of slavery when the U.S.
authorized the 13th Amendment to the Constitution to end what can be described as the darkest
chapter of American history. Many in Western Society seem to be unaware of the contemporary
slavery still plaguing many developing countries, particularly involving children. The 2010
documentary film called The Dark Side of Chocolate explored the modern day slavery that is
occurring within many West African countries, where children are being exploited and trafficked in
order to harvest chocolate. In fact, the United States Department of State estimates that approximately
109,000 children in the Ivory Coast s cocoa industry work under the worst forms of child labor
(Mustapha, 2010, p.3).
By exploring the use of child labor in the chocolate industry in West Africa, this paper will present the
argument where I will argue that the unethical use of child labor has led to impoverished families,
negative health impacts among children, and has affected economies in West Africa. In order to
overcome this situation, there is a need for enforced policies, government action, and corporations
taking accountability in order to put an end to child labor. The first part of the paper will discuss how
the cocoa industry affects families, the health of child laborers, and the economy, followed by various

The Imagery of Bloodshed in The Oresteia Essay
The Imagery of Bloodshed in The Oresteia
In the prologue of Agamemnon, the first play of Aeschylus trilogy, The
Oresteia, the watchman implores the gods for a blessed end to all our
pain. (20). He is asking for deliverance from the retributive system of
justice, where the only certainty is that bloodshed breeds more bloodshed.
The old men of the chorus in their opening chant, Hymn to Zeus, declare
that suffering must be experienced before man can be released from this
ceaseless irredeemable bloodshed and thus be, free from all the pain. (1)
They declare that it is a law laid down by Zeus that we must suffer,

At the beginning of the
play, the chorus describes the blood that was shed by Agamemnon in Troy,
where he was driven to avenge Priam s theft of Helen. Here, Agamemnon acted
true to revenge, [like] a stabbing Fury, (65) plunging his sword into a
mother/ bursting with unborn young the babies spilling, / quick spurts of
blood [and] cut off the race just dashing into life! (107) He is a bloody
lion that lapped its fill, gorging on the blood of kings. (812 13) Not
only did his need for vengeance cause bloodshed in Troy, it also resulted
in his sacrifice of his daughter. The chorus describes how Agamemnon
performed this act in order to appease Artemis for [she] must have blood.
(201) if the fleets are to be able to sail to Troy. The chorus relates
the older warlord saying, Obey, obey, or a heavy doom will crush me! / Oh
but doom will crush me/ once I rend my child/ the glory of my house / a
father s hand s are stained,/ blood of a young girl streaks the altar./
Pain both ways and what is worse?/ Desert the fleets, fail the alliance?/
No, but stop the winds with a virgin s blood,/ feed their lust, their
fury? feed their fury! Law is law! (205 16)
To Agamemnon, the
consequences that would arise out of not fulfilling the vendetta and
destroying Troy outweigh those which would result from the sacrifice of his
daughter. He

The Six Principles For Effective Use Of Technology In The...
It is usual for teachers to use technology in classrooms today. Technology is a great tool to use for
teachers to teach and for students to learn. However, that does not mean technology is always being
used appropriately. By using technology, the way we choose problems and how we present them
change (Goldenberg, 2000). In Goldenberg s article, he discusses the six principles for effective use of
technology in the classroom. These principles are, the genre principle, the purpose principle, the
answer vs. analysis principle, the who does the thinking principle, the change content carefully
principle, and the fluent tool use principle. In order to learn how technology is used in classrooms, I
observed in a 2nd grade ICT classroom at a public school in Brooklyn. I observed the same teachers
teach their students math and science using technology. While I observed math, the teacher would start
her lessons by introducing the topic by playing a Brain Pop Jr. video. During the Brain Pop Jr. video,
the characters would ask higher order critically thinking questions. The teacher did not pause the video
during when the questions were asked. The students hand would go up and she would tell them to put
their hands down. The characters in the video would answer the question a second later. To improve
this lesson, I would suggest stopping the video when the questions are being asked. This would allow
the teacher to check for the students understanding of the material and allow for

Shakespeare examines love in two different ways in Sonnets 116 and 130. In the first, love is treated
in its most ideal form as an uncompromising force (indeed, as the greatest force in the universe); in the
latter sonnet, Shakespeare treats love from a more practical aspect: it is viewed simply and
realistically without ornament. Yet both sonnets are justifiable in and of themselves, for neither
misrepresents love or speaks of it slightingly. Indeed, Shakespeare illustrates two qualities of love in
the two sonnets: its potential and its objectivity. This paper will compare and contrast the two sonnets
by Shakespeare and show how they represent two different attitudes to love. In Sonnet 116,
Shakespeare defines love by way of truth. He begins not by launching into a discourse on the nature of
love but on the nature of marriage, which, he implies, is built on commitment and truth: Let me not to
the marriage of true minds / Admit impediments. If two people are honest and truthful then they will
have understood just what is expected of them in their marriage vows therefore, the poet sees no
reason to object. Love follows on truth, he seems to say. In fact, this must be so for the same principle
applies in Sonnet 130. After an entire sonnet of lines in which the poet denigrates his mistress, he still
finally refers to her as is his love despite it all, simply because she is unique in and of herself and the

An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge and The Necklace
People always like to impute all the misfortunes they have been through to their unfair destinies.
However, most of the occurrences happen in the human society is not random, and every consequence
must have a corresponding reason. Sometimes, the motive of one s action is hard to find because it
may be psychogenic reasons that hide deep in one s mind. Sigmund Freud comes up the idea that
human beings are motivated, even driven, by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts of which they are
unaware (Tyson 14 15). In most of the literature works, narrators unconscious egos like desires and
believes are often the most important factors to affect their behaviors and cause the consequential
narrative events happen. Both of protagonists in the articles, Peyton Farquhar in Ambrose Bierce s An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge and Madame Loisel in Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace, are
struggled with their identities, and suffered from the delusions caused by their egos, which lead
themselves to make the irretrievable mistakes, and finally, they fall to the fantasies again to defend the
consequences caused by their mistakes.
Both of the protagonists are not satisfied with their current identities, their desires blind their minds,
and make them easily fall into unrealistic delusions. In the An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, in
order to create suspense, Bierce does not mention the narrator s identity until Part II. He describes
Peyton Farquhar as a well to do planter; Farquhar s

The Schoolmaster in Albert Camus s The Guest Essay
In Albert Camus s The Guest, an idealistic schoolmaster, Daru, is forced to make many unsettling
decisions when ordered to deliver an Arab prisoner to higher authorities in Tinguit. From the
beginning, after the prisoner is transferred into his custody, Daru chooses to treat him as a guest rather
than a prisoner. Also, Daru decides not to cast judgment on the Arab for the crime of killing his
cousin. Lastly, Daru chooses not to play God and assume the awesome responsibility of deciding
another man s fate. Thus, when Daru is faced with a series of confusing and complicated situations he
chooses to be himself and make his own decisions rather than be influenced by others. The mere
thought of keeping a prisoner in one s home is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, Daru acted as host, providing the prisoner with food and money for his journey toward
Tinguit. Daru never made the prisoner feel as though he was truly imprisoned. Daru s kindhearted
nature made the prisoner feel more like a proper guest. Even though Daru treated his guest with
kindness, it would not have been out of the average person s character to pass judgment on him for the
crime of killing his cousin. At first, Daru felt a sudden wrath against this man, against all men with
their rotten spite, their tireless hates, their blood lust. Later after sharing a meal with him, Daru
decides not to pass judgment regarding crime for which the Arab was charged; instead he befriends
this man, understanding his fears. The Arab asks Daru, Are you the judge? Daru responds, No, I m
simply keeping you until tomorrow. Daru tries to imagine his face bursting with rage. He couldn t do
so. Daru is aware of this man s vulnerability when the Arab inquires about whether the gendarme will
be escorting him to jail. Again, Daru does not pass judgment on this man s fears; instead he
understands his trust in him. In the end, when Daru lets the Arab choose whether to turn himself in or
choose the path of freedom, he does not judge why the Arab decides imprisonment. It is apparent from
the beginning that Daru does not want the

The Challenges Of Canada s Health Care System
There are 196 countries with healthcare systems across the world... Canada s healthcare system is
ranked 30th overall. Most critics keep health care related debates to the small scope of Canada and the
USA. However, neither the USA nor Canada s systems are ranked in the top 25 for overall efficiency

in regards to major problems; financial aspects, timely access, and the doctor shortages. Evidence
shows that the best healthcare systems in the world are founded on a strong primary care system

This survey included over 3,700 physicians in eight different countries. The results showed Canada
continuously had the lowest overall adaption rate; early adaption of technologies is a key element to
sustaining healthcare systems (Williams). Canada is a slow adapter of innovative technologies that
could enhance the quality of health care services and improve the health and quality of life of
Canadians (Daniel Muzyka). There is plenty of evidence to validate that many Canadians are incorrect
in believing that they have the best healthcare system in the world . Spending on healthcare in Canada
continues to outpace the government spending program in growth and is limiting public investments
in other areas that would make for an overall more effective society (Daniel Muzyka). Canada is the
10th highest spender, spending an average of $2,600 per Canadian per year. Recent studies by Brett

total government revenue. He found that if recent trends persist, provincial government spending on
healthcare will consume more than half of total revenues from all sources in six of 10 provinces by the
year 2020 (Neil Stuart). Due to the over spending factor and tight budgets, several healthcare
institutions in Canada are cutting back costs any way they can. Specifically, in

Human Nature In Gilgamesh
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh was mostly divine but shared minimal characteristics of a god.
Such characteristics were bold physical structures and the strength of a wild bull which he inherited
from his mother, Ninsun, the cow goddess. Everything else such as his characteristics, mentality, and
actions mirrors ours, humans which makes him more like us than a god. His actions portray the burden
of the flawed human nature that we all carry such as being aggressive, competitive, and running away
from our fears.
Initially, Gilgamesh was known as the tortuous, accomplished, and competitive king of Uruk who
drove people out of their sanity and sought trouble. He frequently held competitions to determine the

Furthermore, by agreeing to bet his life on the success of his quest, Gilgamesh reveals the desire for
being remembered by humans which are specified in the statement, I must set my hand to cutting a

just the nature of human to not be satisfied with anything that we have. Something deep inside us
always desires for more. Gilgamesh was the king of Uruk, instead of creating the reputation of a kind,
considerate, generous king, he decided to slay a tremendous monster and tried to impress others
instead. It s the most common mistake that we humans always make. We tend to be so busy
impressing others and striving for their cheers with such frequency, that we forget to be ourselves and
think before we act.We often feel self conscious and inferior to ourselves after we experience failure,
which we fail to tolerate. Impressing others and having the ought to be seen in a positive perspective is
what makes us compete against one another which might not always be morally right. Sometimes it s
better to be the best together rather than ruining relationships due to the consequence of proving to the
world that you re finessed. Gilgamesh harassing young girls and women of his kingdom implies that it
s also an aspect of the human nature to be aggressive and compel others to do something for their

Even though Deming, Juran, and Crosby all have similarities between their key principles in quality
management there are several aspects that are different to the approaches. They all recognize the
importance of measurement to improve quality; however, the level of importance each emphasizes is
different. Crosby and Juran view the cost of quality as the focus of measurement whereas Deming
does not use the cost of quality as a focus (Suarez, 1992, p.18). To Deming, meeting the customers
needs and expectations about a product or service is of higher importance to quality. He also considers
unknown costs such as the impact of lost customers to be more significant than visible costs (Suarez,
1992, p.18).
Deming, Juran, and Crosby all define quality in different ways. Deming defines quality as a
continuous improvement and the ultimate goal is zero defects; however, he realizes an error free
product may not be economically feasible or practical (Kerzner, 2009, p. 880). Deming also states a
product or service is defined by the customer and quality is a relative term and will change based on
the customer s needs (Suarez, 1992, p.3)
Juran s definition of quality focuses 100% of the customer s satisfaction of the product. He stresses a
balance between product features and products free from deficiencies and believes a quality product is
free from deficiencies (Suarez, 1992, p.4). In order to achieve this

Marcus Aurelius And Stoicism
After the death of Aristotle, philosophy that targeted greater complex depths was outrun by philosophy
that focused on mere everyday lives. With the rise and fall of Skepticism, Cynicism, and Epicureanism
there was an influence that survived years impacting life and that was Stoicism. Zeno of Citium who
believed that the world had an ultimate plan and everything including nature, animals, and humans,
were there for a reason (Hergenhahn Henley, 2014, p. 66). The reason Stoicism was easily used is
because it was well suited with the way Romans highlighted their law and order giving the extensive
coverage displayed by many philosophers, including Marcus Aurelius. Marcus Aurelius, was born in
121 C.E. Growing up his focus of education was overseen by Emperor Hadrian and soon taken over
by Emperor Antonius teaching him more of a rhetoric (Sellars, 2002). As the years progressed he
shifted in to a study of philosophy leading to him becoming what we know as one of the most
important Stoic philosophers. Marcus Aurelius became an emperor in A.D. 160 lasting to A.D.180. he
was working closely with Lucius Verus in 169 and his son Commodus in 177 (Crook, 2017). Marcus
Aurelius later passed away in A.D. 180, yet his most personal literature is still read today, Meditations.
Marcus Aurelius and his philosophies were composed down in a collection of his intimate writings
titled Meditations. The compilations and stories that Meditations follows are the influence of Stoicism

Essential Illness In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
Author George R.R. Martin once said, there is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand that
man a sword or spear and send him forth to war, the beast stirs. Comparably this is exemplified
through the Holocaust. Hitler when a civil man, but once he was handed power, he instantly overused
it which caused him to harm millions of innocent people. Golding and authors Hersh, Tahiri, and
Schwartz, have revealed this situation through their stories to show how mankind s essential illness
affects those of all ages through different conditions. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding

increWhen the United States first went to war President Bush thought it was a good idea to cut taxes.
...this was the first time in American history that a president took us into a war and cut taxes (Farley,

lowered tax rates prior to and during the Iraq War the United States was put in a difficult predicament.
We were required to borrow large sums of money from other countries to finance the war. This is a
large part of why we are struggling with a national debt issue today. As of today the United States has
accumulated over $18 trillion in national debt. Of that $18 trillion, one third can be attributed to the

Informative Essay On Twin
Introduction: We go together like copy and paste. Some people would say it s just a twin thing you
wouldn t understand. All throughout your life you are asked who was born first, are you identical or
fraternal, you guys do know you look nothing alike, can you feel each other s pain, do you guys fight,
do you guys do everything together, or even how do I tell you guys apart. Another question we are
asked is so that means you have the same birthday, right . Don t get me wrong there are many
advantages of being a twin, but along with those advantages comes many disadvantages.
Main point: First let me start by telling you what the really meaning of twin is. The term twins
actually comes from the ancient German word twin or twine meaning two together. There are identical
twins, and fraternal twins. Identical twins mean that they develop from one zygote that splits and
forms two embryos, or dizygotic or also known as fraternal, meaning that they develop from two eggs.
A big thing that people do not understand is that twins can be two girls, two boys, or even a boy and a
girl. Growing up I went to school many different sets of twins and none of us act the same so when we
get asked what it is like to be a twin, we can only answer for our twin experience and not for

Would World Affairs Be More Peaceful If Women Dominated Politics?
A recent addition to the study of international relations is the idea of gender and the difference it may
have on political beliefs and actions. The argument is rooted in the concept that women are not as
prone to violence and war as men, and therefore would lead the world in a more peaceful direction
than it is currently going. To make this assumption, one would have to suppose that there are
fundamental biological differences between men and women and that these differences result in
behavioral variations as well. This is exactly what Francis Fukuyama does in his article Women and

In his essay, a study was cited that concluded boys were more aggressive than girls. Psychologist
Judith Bardwick has conducted studies and also found this to be true. However, she contends that this
research does not lead to the findings that girls are passive and nonaggressive (Bardwick). She states
that to say boys are more aggressive does not mean that girls are not (Bardwick). Nonetheless,
Fukuyama declares that a truly matriarchal world, then, would be less prone to conflict...than the one
we inhabit now. Mary Caprioli argues against Fukuyama s claims that a female dominated society
would be more peaceful. She says that though there may be a gender gap in the support for war, this is
not due to women s natural instincts to be passive and non violent. Traditionally, women have not had
the power, or even the choice, to act violently. Violence is simply not an option for them. This is why
it may appear that survey results show that a majority of women are anti war. The outcome of these
polls are used by many to assert the idea that all or most women are more pacific and are opposed to
violence. But there are flaws in this evidence. First, a survey conducted of solely western countries
can hardly represent women on a worldwide scale. Second, in these polls women are likely to express
no opinion rather than supporting war; this is not the same as being opposed to it. Most women are
noticeably less interested or knowledgeable about war

Liquor Never Brewed
In I taste a liquor never brewed Emily Dickinson expresses her passion and love for nature by talking
about her intoxication of alcohol. The extended metaphor and use of sound reflects the speaker s
attitude toward nature. With a decently constructed extended metaphor, Dickinson shows her love of
nature. The open line brings something interest to the reader: a liquor never brewed (l.1). How can a
liquor never have brewed be a liquor? This opening line hooks attention tightly by introducing a
seemingly contradiction. The special liquor initiates the metaphor of nature, which is strengthened and
clarified by inebriate of air (l.5) and Debauchee of Dew (l.6) in the second stanza. Dickinson connects
features of drunkenness and nature in those two lines: the narrator is not getting drunk with alcohol,
but with the admirable scenery in nature. The following line further explains the setting of the poem

The Hero In Odysseus In Homer s The Odyssey
To most people, a hero is a person who is admired for their courage, noble qualities, outstanding
acheivements and sacrificing their life for others. Heroes in Greek mythology were often seen as a
people who were clever, talented, courageuos, noble, had great strenght, had great victories in battle,
connections to the gods and to other supernatural forces. Odysseus shows many signs of heroic traits
throughout his quest in The Odyssey. Odysseus is put into numerous life threatening situations but he

that he has the characteristics of a hero. Odysseus shows no signs of being a villian throughout the
entire story as he tries to get back to Ithica, his home, and reunite with his wife, family and friends.
Odysseus shows how clever and talented he is many times throughout The Odyssey. Odysseus is very

doted brush to create the freckles and they are a couple of shades darker than the skin tone. This artist
like the others uses harmonious colours but also adds some contrast to the piece with the red light
illuminating the figure from behind. Pipi by Hsiao Ron Cheng
The colours that this artist uses makes the artwork look very washed out. The artist adds highlight to
the skin of the person in this artwork which gives a nice sheen to the face creating some dimension in
the face. This artworks have very soft lines and the skin is very blended. This artist also uses
harmonious colours, and also colours that are very close in shade but the artist also adds a little
contrast to the piece such as the darkness in the eyes as well as the bottom of the background being
blue which makes the pink stand out a little more.

The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran Essay
The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran
Over the course of the last century, the Islamic Republic of Iran (formerly known as Persia) has seen
colonialism, the end of a dynasty, the installation of a government by a foreign power, and just over
three decades ago, the popular uprising and a cleric led revolution. These events preceded what could
be considered the world s first Islamic state, as politics and fundamentalist religion are inextricably
linked in contemporary Iran. Looking at Iran from the mid 1940 s until the present day, one can trace
the path that led to the rise of fundamental Islam in Iran in three distinct periods. The first is that
which began with the rise of secular nationalism and the decline of Islam. In ... Show more content on

In a classic case of western countries meddling in the foreign affairs of a sovereign nation for their
own national interests, the American CIA and British intelligence conspired to topple the
democratically elected government in 1953. They succeeded in restoring the exiled Pahlavi dynasty to
power by installing Reza Shah Pahlavi s son, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi as the Shah of Iran. After
taking office, Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi continued and expanded upon a policy of westernization
begun by his father and aggressively repressed Iran s fundamental Islamists to consolidate his power.
The Pahlavi dynasty s restoration fostered anger among the citizens, as Muhammad Reza Shah
Pahlavi was seen as a western puppet and therefore a more contemporary extension of the humiliating
colonialism endured at the hands of the west. Fostering women s rights, western dress, toleration of
alcohol and the suppression of Islamic customs, traditions and clothing all served to earn him the ire
of the general population and Islamic clerics. Milton Edwards (2006) referred to this accelerated
secularism (p. 37) as being part of the erosion of religious elements in Iran. Muhammad Reza Shah
Pahlavi thought himself loved by the people, but popular sentiment was against him; and completely
behind an exiled Iranian cleric living in Paris named Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Ayatollah
Khomeini had been writing papers

Social Foundry Case Study
Business Overview
History
The Social Foundry was established as a pilot program in March of 2016. With one participant being
sourced from the Working for the Dole program. During this time, this participant has been employed
working 25 hours per week learning carpentry and woodworking skills. In October of 2016 the Social
Foundry obtained its Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and became a registered public
benevolent institution. In late November 2016, a Development Manager was employed to start the
process of generating funding for this new venture. This role expanded quickly to explore the viability
of this concept being implemented within the Macedon Ranges region, engaging with local
community providers many discussions have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Please refer to (app. 5), the Social Foundry proposition directly tackles this problem by offering an
alternative pathway to further education and workplace training.
Over time we see our model being able to be replicated in numerous forms in many regions
throughout Australia. Currently our focus is limited to woodworking and carpentry, long term it could
be expanded into manufacturing, I.T., customer service, agriculture or food services just to name a
few.
The Social Foundry aims to focus on the needs of the Kyneton community located in the Macedon
Ranges. However, having access to the train line the scope of our demographic can reach as far south
as Gisborne and Castlemaine to the north.
Shortly the Social Foundry will be hiring a Head of Operations who will be overseeing the mentoring
program for our participants. We will also be establishing a strong presence in the centre of Kyneton
establishing a workshop where goods will be produced. This area will also act as a community
resource where we have partnered with Moto Bean Coffee Roasters. We will be creating a place in
Kyneton where young people will be trained in skills and be able to sell the goods they produce. These
goods will be for sale in this area where the public are welcome to

Michael Eisner Disney America
Michael Eisner underestimated the public relation and marketing aspect of the Disney America Theme
Park. Pinkleton, Austin, Zhou, Willoughby and Reiser (2012) stated: a healthy, well functioning
democracy depends on the participation of engaged citizens who understand the political process and
keep informed about the actions of their government and public officials (p. 24). Likewise, Eisner
misjudged the media s reaction to the creation of a Disney theme park. Schlichting (2014) concluded,
journalists were still seen as the most powerful mediators of the public sphere and hence the key
stakeholders of the public path of public affairs management (p. 414).
Therefore, this case study is an example of a large corporation attempting to implement its will
amongst the people and our democracy allowed them to fight against the measure. Moreover, Eisner
miscalculation led to multiple hiccups that range from leaked information, employees misspeaking
and Eisner himself letting emotions and his bearing jeopardize the future them park existence.
Furthermore, if I found myself as Eisner senior advisor I would request that I be able to analyze the
entire situation thru a hired independent counsel and provide him with three course of actions that he

and Disney current 10K. Additionally, the council would create eight projected budgets based on five

also be required to do the same for Disney s 10K s as well. Overall, these budgets would provide

  • 2. Introduction Of The Policy Report Essay Brief Introduction of the Policy Report I am a translator who graduated from Capital TongWen Hall (京师同文馆)and who wrote this policy report to Qing Government in the year of 1905, when Yuan Shi Kai (袁世凯) and Zhang Zhi Dong (张之洞) reported to the government to eliminate the Civil Examination. The reason I am writing this policy report is because I see it is necessary to still keep the exam system, but we surely need to change the exam system if we do not eliminate it. The old goal of the Civil Examination is to pick elites from population to work as government official and have a powerful impact on China s social mobility, and the new goal of it will be accommodating science without eliminating the Civil Service Examination. However, I am writing to advise and report to try our best to keep both goals in the exam system. I will talk about the details of why we should not eliminate the exam system, why we need to change the system and what we are going to change in the system and how we are going to implement these changes into the system and try to minimize the contradiction between the old literature elites and new scientific elites. Background The function of Civil Service Examination is for recruitment and admission to the civil service, and for the Ancient Chinese government it mainly functioned as a tool to pick literature elites who are capable to work for the country. It broke the tradition of genealogical monopoly in using people in the government and it certainly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

EFFECT OF EXERCISE TRAINING AND NUTRITION THERAPY ON FUNCTION, FATIGUE, AND PAIN IN WOMEN WITH FIBROMYALGIA Research Question: What is the effect of resistance/aerobic training and nutrition therapy on function, fatigue, and pain in women with FM? Abstract Background and Significance: Fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms such as pain and fatigue can have a severe impact on function and quality of life. The exact etiology of FM is unknown, consequently there is no single best treatment. Studies have shown that exercise plays a role in modulating adverse symptoms of FM. Aerobic exercise has clearly been shown to improve symptoms, but strength training still needs further study. Theories have also suggested that nutrition may be linked to FM; whether it is a cause or effect is still unknown. This study will examine the effects of exercise training and nutrition therapy on function, fatigue, and pain in women with FM. Subjects and Methods: Subjects will include 594 women diagnosed with FM. There will be 4 groups: an exercise group, a nutrition therapy group, an exercise and nutrition therapy group, and a control group who will receives information on FM. The book recounts her experiences as a young black woman in the Civil Rights Movement, and gives a firsthand account of many of the historical events during that time period, such as sit ins, protests, and civil unrest. Anne Moody was a vocal activist and member of organizations such as the NAACP, who spoke out against racism and segregation. Born in 1940 in rural Mississippi, Anne lives with her parents and her sister Adline in a two room shack that does not have electricity or plumbing. The shack is on a plantation owned by white people, the Carter family, who do have those luxuries, and Anne s parents work on the plantation. Anne s father leaves the family after an ... Anne states that Mrs. Rice became like a mother to her, telling her anything she wanted to know, though she warned Anne that if anyone else found out she was talking about these things, she would be fired. At the end of the school year, Mrs. Rice is indeed fired, but Anne does not know why, and she does not see her again. Still, Mrs. Rice s impact on Anne was the catalyst that led Anne into the civil rights movement, as she learned that there were things she could do to try to change the way things were. Another important woman is Mrs. Burke, Anne s racist employer. Mrs. Burke does Anne no favors, but through working for her, Anne s eyes are opened to the hostility of whites. Mrs. Burke accuses Anne s younger brother of stealing from her, even though he is innocent. This event leads to Anne quitting the job and choosing to work as a waitress instead of a maid. She wants to use her earnings to pay for college, so that she may become educated. Finally, Anne s stepmother plays a significant role in Anne s life. After Anne leaves her mother s home to move in with her father, she develops a bond with her stepmother, Emma, who is kind and friendly. She shows compassion to those around her, and even when an altercation with her brother in law results in her getting her foot shot, she doesn t blame him. • 5. Neoconservative And Discrimination Against Gays And... People may not notice little things that others do or say. Something as small as calling someone gay because they identify themselves as homosexual, could emotionally traumatize them. Examples of these issues are LGBTQ+ working in a labour intensive employment, and is treated as weak or unfit for the position, thus being looked down upon. For centuries, people follow the stereotype that people of a different gender or sexual identity are looked down upon and considered outliers of the society. Our group will go in depth and demonstrate examples of discrimination against LGBTQ+ in the workforce, by first analyzing the root of this problem. A few questions that we will evaluating are: if people dislike LGBTQ+ in the workforce because they are homosexuals, or because they are lacking in skill, education, experience etc. Second question that ties with the root of the issue is to find out why majority of people discriminate individuals that identify as LGBTQ+ homosexuals. Lastly, our group will be explaining different point of views of this issue. We will be using a variety of frameworks that we have learned in class such as viewing the social problem with a Neoliberal, Neoconservative and transformative outlook to analyze the social problem. Topics that we can analyze using these frameworks, include who is at fault or who is to blame within the social problem, how each framework would try to resolve the social problem, and what are some things that each framework can do ... • 6. Mental Illness And Mental Health Mental health is very important to many people in and around this country. Millions of Americans live with various types of mental illness and mental health problems. Treatment options often include medication and psychotherapy. There are several categories of mental illness to include personality disorders, mood disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and stressor related disorders, psychotic disorders and many more. Many of these disorders can be referenced in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5, APA, 2013). DSM is the most universal of modern classification systems for mental disorders. These are used by clinicians, therapist, social workers and other social service professionals to assess and assist in diagnosing individuals with various symptoms that meet the criteria of a diagnosis. So many people deal with the symptoms of mental illness and never are able to tell their story. In An Unquiet Mind, by Kay Redfield Jamison, she recounts her struggles with bipolar disorder and manic depression. She struggled with her disease for a number of years and it was uplifting on how she was finally able to come to terms with her illness and be able to manage it. He was surprised that he could sit or eat wherever he wanted, unlike in the south. In 1953, he moved to Alabama and began his ministry at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. During this time segregation was at its height, and he was in a position to speak out for equal rights. Many people were advocating ending segregation by any means possible, but he believed the best way to promote racial equality was to organize peaceful nonviolent protest. He thought the use of violence would only hinder the efforts of the equal right movement. This theory was proven during the protest in Birmingham. Dr. King was arrested for leading a nonviolent protest. The Birmingham police were dispatched for crowd control and used violent force against the protestors. Despite the violence the protesters did not retaliate. This event was also influential in achieving racial equality in the United States. Dr. King was born into a household deep rooted into the southern black ministry, particularly the southern Baptist. While going to college to receive his education in ministry, Dr. King made a decision to follow in the actions of his teacher and the college president, Mr. Benjamin Mays. • 8. Descriptive Essay About My Day In the silent neighborhood of Beall Avenue in Rockville, the alarm echoed for the fifth time to alert me that it was about five AM in the morning. It was June eighth, the day that I had been anticipating since I began ninth grade four years ago. High school graduation was finally here. My best friend and I got up quickly and started our day. Agnes applied foundation on my rough face and filled in my eyebrows. My lips were painted with rosy mauve and my smooth cheekbones illuminated. My hair was curled and I was ready to leave my best friend s house. The birds chirped and slow R B jams played from my car speakers as I made my way to my place. At the station platform, there was a sea of diverse faces, some carrying a conversation, and some who were listening to their early morning tunes. Many were in suits carrying a briefcase on their side while I was with my flowy white dress, four inch black heels, and a black bag that I held in my hand, standing next to my family. The platform lights were blinking, signaling the metro was arriving shortly. Once it docked, the door opened for some to get off, and some to get in. I had already discerned through the metro s transparent windows that it barely had space for my family and I. The riders inside were firmly grasping the pole for support, standing close to each other. My parents had decided then to wait for the next train. I agreed and we were on the lookout for the next one. About ten minutes later, another metro had finally appeared, and this one had standing room for the four of us. It was not unexpected that there would be no seats and we were left standing with no choice but to appreciate the bittersweet ride on that pleasant morning. I grasped tightly to the bar, as I stood in my four inch heels trying to hide my annoyance. My feet were throbbing in pain and there was nothing more that I needed at that moment than a seat. A seat, that would have comforted me and put my uneasiness to rest. I kept glancing over at my phone to check the time and saw that time was nearing. • 9. Bar And Bat Mizvah In Jewish Culture Some of the most precious and memorable times in religious communities are when children take place in a religious ceremony and ritual. For the Jewish community, the bar and bat mitzvahs are very special and represent one of these cherished and unforgettable times: This is about becoming something. You re at a time in your life when important changes are happening to you and in you (Feinstein). To begin, bar and bat mitzvah is the Hebrew Jewish way of saying the son and daughter of the commandment . Next, the parents will usually say a speech at the end to recognize their child for entering a state of spiritual maturity. The modern bar and bat mitzvahs are usually in the morning and are followed by a party at night; however, more traditional Jews will have it on the sundown Friday and will not have a party after. This is because they are not permitted to drive or play music on the Shabbat. Depending on the family, the party after the service ranges in scale and suspense and they can take place in houses, halls or restaurants. The parties usually include a meal, speeches and dancing; bar and bat mitzvah ceremonies can be compared to wedding styles. The child will most likely choose some sort of centre piece and theme for the tables as well as hiring a dj or a band: A popular feature at bar and bat mitzvah parties is the candle lighting ceremony, in which the bar or bat mitzvah child lights a series of candles, choosing to honor different friends and family members with each candle. ... Time Management Strengths And Weaknesses Makena Kane College Recommendation Brag Sheet Academic Strengths Time Management: I am a film producer, and the most important quality is being a good time manager. On sets, the producer is the one who keeps everyone on task and to schedule. Having good time oriented brain has led me to be more proactive in my studies and outside activities. Actually, having anxiety is one of the helpful factors in making me keep on top of deadlines. By being so on top of time, I have never turned in homework late due to how my anxiety does prevent me from procrastinating. Adaptive: Being at an art school, and the fact that I have moved about 8 times in my life, I have learned to be very adaptive. No matter the situation, location, or people I am with, I will be able to work and figure out the problem. This has helped in times like my 64 Film Festival, where we have to film a 7 minute film over a weekend. I have to adapt to where we film and what the script is like to make schedules, and problems happen at a moment s notice. Without being able to adapt, I would not have be capable of producing now 3 (successful, might I add) films in this festival. Critical Thinking: One of my best academic strengths I believe is how much I am a critical thinker. • 17. The Effects Of Child Labor On The Chocolate Industry The Effects of Child Labor in the Chocolate Industry: December 6, 2015, was an important day for many Americans, as it marked the 150th year since the abolishment of slavery when the U.S. authorized the 13th Amendment to the Constitution to end what can be described as the darkest chapter of American history. Many in Western Society seem to be unaware of the contemporary slavery still plaguing many developing countries, particularly involving children. The 2010 documentary film called The Dark Side of Chocolate explored the modern day slavery that is occurring within many West African countries, where children are being exploited and trafficked in order to harvest chocolate. In fact, the United States Department of State estimates that approximately 109,000 children in the Ivory Coast s cocoa industry work under the worst forms of child labor (Mustapha, 2010, p.3). By exploring the use of child labor in the chocolate industry in West Africa, this paper will present the argument where I will argue that the unethical use of child labor has led to impoverished families, negative health impacts among children, and has affected economies in West Africa. Technology is a great tool to use for teachers to teach and for students to learn. However, that does not mean technology is always being used appropriately. By using technology, the way we choose problems and how we present them change (Goldenberg, 2000). In Goldenberg s article, he discusses the six principles for effective use of technology in the classroom. These principles are, the genre principle, the purpose principle, the answer vs. analysis principle, the who does the thinking principle, the change content carefully principle, and the fluent tool use principle. In order to learn how technology is used in classrooms, I observed in a 2nd grade ICT classroom at a public school in Brooklyn. I observed the same teachers teach their students math and science using technology. While I observed math, the teacher would start her lessons by introducing the topic by playing a Brain Pop Jr. video. During the Brain Pop Jr. video, the characters would ask higher order critically thinking questions. The teacher did not pause the video during when the questions were asked. The students hand would go up and she would tell them to put their hands down. The characters in the video would answer the question a second later. To improve this lesson, I would suggest stopping the video when the questions are being asked. This would allow the teacher to check for the students understanding of the material and allow for ... • 24. A Comparison of Shakespeare s Sonnets 116 and 130 Comparison of Shakespeare s Sonnets 116 and 130 Shakespeare examines love in two different ways in Sonnets 116 and 130. In the first, love is treated in its most ideal form as an uncompromising force (indeed, as the greatest force in the universe); in the latter sonnet, Shakespeare treats love from a more practical aspect: it is viewed simply and realistically without ornament. Yet both sonnets are justifiable in and of themselves, for neither misrepresents love or speaks of it slightingly. Indeed, Shakespeare illustrates two qualities of love in the two sonnets: its potential and its objectivity. This paper will compare and contrast the two sonnets by Shakespeare and show how they represent two different attitudes to love. In Sonnet 116, Shakespeare defines love by way of truth. He begins not by launching into a discourse on the nature of love but on the nature of marriage, which, he implies, is built on commitment and truth: Let me not to the marriage of true minds / Admit impediments. If two people are honest and truthful then they will have understood just what is expected of them in their marriage vows therefore, the poet sees no reason to object. Love follows on truth, he seems to say. In fact, this must be so for the same principle applies in Sonnet 130. After an entire sonnet of lines in which the poet denigrates his mistress, he still finally refers to her as is his love despite it all, simply because she is unique in and of herself and the other half of ... • 33. Marcus Aurelius And Stoicism After the death of Aristotle, philosophy that targeted greater complex depths was outrun by philosophy that focused on mere everyday lives. With the rise and fall of Skepticism, Cynicism, and Epicureanism there was an influence that survived years impacting life and that was Stoicism. Zeno of Citium who believed that the world had an ultimate plan and everything including nature, animals, and humans, were there for a reason (Hergenhahn Henley, 2014, p. 66). The reason Stoicism was easily used is because it was well suited with the way Romans highlighted their law and order giving the extensive coverage displayed by many philosophers, including Marcus Aurelius. Marcus Aurelius, was born in 121 C.E. Growing up his focus of education was overseen by Emperor Hadrian and soon taken over by Emperor Antonius teaching him more of a rhetoric (Sellars, 2002). As the years progressed he shifted in to a study of philosophy leading to him becoming what we know as one of the most important Stoic philosophers. Marcus Aurelius became an emperor in A.D. 160 lasting to A.D.180. he was working closely with Lucius Verus in 169 and his son Commodus in 177 (Crook, 2017). Marcus Aurelius later passed away in A.D. 180, yet his most personal literature is still read today, Meditations. Marcus Aurelius and his philosophies were composed down in a collection of his intimate writings titled Meditations. The compilations and stories that Meditations follows are the influence of Stoicism along with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Essential Illness In Lord Of The Flies Analysis Author George R.R. Martin once said, there is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand that man a sword or spear and send him forth to war, the beast stirs. Comparably this is exemplified through the Holocaust. Hitler when a civil man, but once he was handed power, he instantly overused it which caused him to harm millions of innocent people. Golding and authors Hersh, Tahiri, and Schwartz, have revealed this situation through their stories to show how mankind s essential illness affects those of all ages through different conditions. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses Jack s desire for blood and to kill to portray man becoming savage from a civil state. Typically, taxes rise during times of war to help compensate for the cost of fighting. With lowered tax rates prior to and during the Iraq War the United States was put in a difficult predicament. We were required to borrow large sums of money from other countries to finance the war. This is a large part of why we are struggling with a national debt issue today. All throughout your life you are asked who was born first, are you identical or fraternal, you guys do know you look nothing alike, can you feel each other s pain, do you guys fight, do you guys do everything together, or even how do I tell you guys apart. Another question we are asked is so that means you have the same birthday, right . Don t get me wrong there are many advantages of being a twin, but along with those advantages comes many disadvantages. Main point: First let me start by telling you what the really meaning of twin is. The term twins actually comes from the ancient German word twin or twine meaning two together. There are identical twins, and fraternal twins. Identical twins mean that they develop from one zygote that splits and forms two embryos, or dizygotic or also known as fraternal, meaning that they develop from two eggs. A big thing that people do not understand is that twins can be two girls, two boys, or even a boy and a girl. A recent addition to the study of international relations is the idea of gender and the difference it may have on political beliefs and actions. The argument is rooted in the concept that women are not as prone to violence and war as men, and therefore would lead the world in a more peaceful direction than it is currently going. To make this assumption, one would have to suppose that there are fundamental biological differences between men and women and that these differences result in behavioral variations as well. However, she contends that this research does not lead to the findings that girls are passive and nonaggressive (Bardwick). She states that to say boys are more aggressive does not mean that girls are not (Bardwick). Nonetheless, Fukuyama declares that a truly matriarchal world, then, would be less prone to conflict...than the one we inhabit now. Mary Caprioli argues against Fukuyama s claims that a female dominated society would be more peaceful. She says that though there may be a gender gap in the support for war, this is not due to women s natural instincts to be passive and non violent. Traditionally, women have not had the power, or even the choice, to act violently. Violence is simply not an option for them. This is why it may appear that survey results show that a majority of women are anti war. The outcome of these polls are used by many to assert the idea that all or most women are more pacific and are opposed to violence. But there are flaws in this evidence. First, a survey conducted of solely western countries can hardly represent women on a worldwide scale. Second, in these polls women are likely to express no opinion rather than supporting war; this is not the same as being opposed to it. • 42. Liquor Never Brewed In I taste a liquor never brewed Emily Dickinson expresses her passion and love for nature by talking about her intoxication of alcohol. The extended metaphor and use of sound reflects the speaker s attitude toward nature. With a decently constructed extended metaphor, Dickinson shows her love of nature. The open line brings something interest to the reader: a liquor never brewed (l.1). How can a liquor never have brewed be a liquor? This opening line hooks attention tightly by introducing a seemingly contradiction. The special liquor initiates the metaphor of nature, which is strengthened and clarified by inebriate of air (l.5) and Debauchee of Dew (l.6) in the second stanza. Dickinson connects features of drunkenness and nature in those two lines: the narrator is not getting drunk with alcohol, but with the admirable scenery in nature. The following line further explains the setting of the poem endless summer day (l.7). Also, in the first stanza, the speaker comments that the liquor never ... These events preceded what could be considered the world s first Islamic state, as politics and fundamentalist religion are inextricably linked in contemporary Iran. In a classic case of western countries meddling in the foreign affairs of a sovereign nation for their own national interests, the American CIA and British intelligence conspired to topple the democratically elected government in 1953. They succeeded in restoring the exiled Pahlavi dynasty to power by installing Reza Shah Pahlavi s son, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi as the Shah of Iran. After taking office, Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi continued and expanded upon a policy of westernization begun by his father and aggressively repressed Iran s fundamental Islamists to consolidate his power. The Pahlavi dynasty s restoration fostered anger among the citizens, as Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi was seen as a western puppet and therefore a more contemporary extension of the humiliating colonialism endured at the hands of the west. Fostering women s rights, western dress, toleration of alcohol and the suppression of Islamic customs, traditions and clothing all served to earn him the ire of the general population and Islamic clerics.
