Mary Prince Character Analysis
The people in England, I am sure, have never found out what is carried on here. Cruel, horrible place!
(Prince and Ferguson Pg. 74), Mary Prince describing Turks Island for the first time after being sold to
the land owner. The History of Mary Prince by Mary Prince is a firsthand account of the tragedies and
daily struggles she faced trying to free herself from the oppression that is slavery. Mary Prince and the
original editor Thomas Pringle use her story and personal experience for propaganda towards the
movement of abolishing slavery in England, she accomplishes this through shedding light on the
oppression she faced and the overwhelming task of gaining her freedom.

After years of abuse Mary had grown weak from a variety of illnesses and her owner wished to have
nothing more of her and ordered her to find a new owner to purchase her. She valiantly tried to find

would give Mary her freedom that she was not for sale when it came time to discuss selling her.
Shortly after this Mary met a free man by the name Daniel James, the two would eventually get
married without Mr. Wood knowing of this act. When Mr. Wood found out that Mary and Daniel were
together, his wife proceeded abuse Marry until she become too ill to work. Mr. and Mrs. Wood then

process of either buying her freedom or providing work and place to live for the coming years. She
would eventually come under the service of the Pringle family where she would live out her remaining

The 1918 Spanish Flu Epidemic
The 1918 Spanish Flu Epidemic was a deathly virus that made its way to every across the globe by
1919, leaving a devastating affect on the world s population and leaving many questioning any
previous faith in religion and modern science. This essay will explore the global affect of the Spanish
Flu Epidemic with special reference to its impact on South African society.
Victims of the Spanish flu epidemic suffered from an acute infection in the respiratory system. The
virus itself takes its form in droplets exposed to the air, which could then be transferred from person to
person with ease. Droplets were emitted into the air by an infected person, which could then infect
others who breathed in these droplets. Urbanization, increased travel and the unfortunate late reporting
s of the influenza are factors which contributed to the expansion of the Spanish flu ... Show more

The Boston navy barracks provided that perfect condition for the virus to rapidly multiply, with some
seven thousand men crowded together. The epidemic was thriving and it appeared much like an
explosion as it struck the continents simultaneously and from there it spread rapidly across the globe.
What had been considered a fairly mild influenza had broken out into a pandemic that held a looming
threat over humanity.
The first wave of the Spanish flu epidemic was marked by mild symptoms that shared a familiarity
with the common flu, such as headaches, fevers and an overall weakness. The second wave of the
Spanish flu epidemic brought enhanced and horrifying symptoms. Those who fell ill with the Spanish
flu suffered from labored breathing, vomiting and nausea, bleeding from the nose or mouth and
delirium. The Spanish flu epidemic was decidedly marked by a cracking sound in the chest and by a
distinct odor released by the infected

The Stereotypes Of `` Stuff Asian People Like `` And The...
Asians are typically loud especially when we are on the phone because we do not take insights of our
surroundings. This is one of the biggest stereotypes about Asians out there. According to a 2008 online
article called Stuff Asian People Like written by Peter; states that Asians tend to be loud due to
adversity. We were compared to the Anglo Saxon legend of Beowulf. Asians are actually peaceful
looking creatures who are soon to be evolved into creatures of such legends like Beowulf . According
to Peter, we are compared to Beowulf because when Asians tend to talk loudly, it is as if we are
screaming at the top of our lungs while trying to kill someone as Beowulf; a barbaric warrior would
do. Peter also states that Asians tend to speak out loud due to the fact that we are stressed out in life.
Peter is really basing this stereotype off of some kung fu movie, because we all know it is true that
when someone like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee starts fighting, they tend to pull out some loud grunts.
Also the article states that we speak loudly because we are not able to express our opinions due to
communism laying a barrier on our world and once we hit America, we are loud due to that barrier
being lifted. What a big load of lies. I say it is a lie because I used to visit my country of Vietnam back
then, and Vietnam is a huge communist country, yet I have seen many people especially other ethnic
Asians visiting the country talking extremely loud. Voicing opinions are one thing,

The Prospect Park Lake
The Prospect Park lake is the only one of its kind in Brooklyn. It is man made and roughly 60 acres
(equivalent to 45 football fields!). It is located in the southern section of the park near the Parkside
Avenue entrances and between Prospect Park West and Ocean Avenue.
An intricate system of ponds and ravines keep the lake filled with water. The park s designers,
Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux (also designers of Manhattan s Central Park), realized that
there were several natural ponds in the higher mid section of the park.
Consequently, Olmsted and Vaux engineered a ravine that would carry water downhill from these
ponds over a series of mini waterfalls and into the lake.
The lake is about 7 feet deep and is home to 20 species of

The Greatest Single Cause Of The War Essay
The greatest single cause of the war was the system of secret alliances which developed. How far do
you agree with this interpretation on what caused World War One. The first world war between the
triple entente and the triple alliance is said to be the first modern war. A previously unseen number of
human lives were lost on both sides and because of this when the war ended it came to be known as
the war to end all wars as said by the former president of the United States Woodrow Wilson. The
interpretation above is correct but only to a certain extent, one must understand and fully asses all the
factors of the war before making a judgement. There are two clear origins for the start of WW1, long
term origins and short term origins. Both must be analysed and assessed properly in order to make a
just statement in regard to the main cause of WW1. There are four generalised long term origins of the
first world war, Nationalism, Imperialism, Militarism and the world war one alliances. However, it
must be stated that the long term causes of the war are far more complex and must be dissected and
analysed in depth before truly understanding the long term causes of the war. A short term analysis
aims to explain why the war began when it did, how and why the European powers went to war and
how the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of
Hohenberg played a part in the start of the war. This division of the work will help, to qualify

Impact Of Public Policy On Global Energy And Climate Change
Aidan Johnson

25 April 2016
The Impact of Public Policy on Global Energy And Climate Change As a political science major with
a focus on international politics, energy and the environment are not just a means to an end but instead
they are the focus of the work itself. Rather than studying business and needing energy to run things
effectively, the study of international relationships is in the business of dealing with these large topics
in energy reduction especially as they relate to reducing carbon emissions. The deeper one dives into
the real core of worldwide energy production the more complicated and hopelessly confusing it may
seem. With thousands of government policies dictating energy production, and hundreds of
governments acting around the world to come to agreements concerning emission and environmental
protection, the concern of global climate change as a result of carbon emissions has been seen by
many as beyond hope. However, despite overwhelming odds, in December 2015 a landmark
agreement was reached by 195 countries to decrease global fossil fuel emissions and attempt to
mitigate the effects of global warming. Just a few months later in April of 2016 it was signed into
effect by all of them, and while it still needs to be ratified in many countries this is a historic step
towards protecting the environment from the harmful effects of global warming. Ahead a brief outline
of our domestic energy policy will be examined, followed by an overview of

The Mythology Of Thor, Apollo, And Other Gods
Much of culture that people have been apart of throughout the centuries has largely been contributed
to the religion in which is followed. For instance, the Greeks believed in Zeus, Apollo, and other gods
of that nature. With the progression of time, however, these religions have slowly faded turning into
simple myths of the past. Many former religions are now mere myths. One in particular stills plays an
influential role in today s modern society, and that is Norse mythology. More specifically, Thor, one of
the many gods of the Norse religion, can still be found throughout the cultures of the world. Although
Thor is no longer necessarily a god, more of a legend, he still can be found in many tales and stories.

Overall, what is now considered Norse mythology was once a thriving religion with many follows
who had hopes for life after death. Similar to many other religions, Norse mythology holds one very
particular, and special figure that many look up to for guidance and wisdom. In this case, that person
is Thor. Thor is certainly, one of the more popular and important gods in Norse mythology. Thor is the
son of the God of the gods, Odin, and his wife, Fyorgyn. His destined duty, is to protect the Aesir god
and their fortress known as Asgard. Many of Thor s tales are that of him protecting his people and
saving the world. Quite often, Thor is dedicated as having a red beard, the eyes of fire, and being as
large as a monster. This image is the intimidating factor which, in many ways, drives his power and
undeniable strength. Many of his tales follow him into battles with his sidekick goats, Tanngniost and
Tanngrisnir, and his brother Loki. More often than not, Thor wins these battle because of his almost
indomitable strenght. With these characteristics, Thor has become the archetype of loyalty and that of
an honorable warrior, which still holds true today. As a god, Thor has a very important role. He is
considered the storm and weather good, similar to the Greek Zeus. His job, as mentioned before, is to
defend the world and also to control the never ending skies. His hammer, Mjollnir is what gives him

Literature And The English Literature Essay
Literature can briefly be defined as written works, especially those considered of superior or lasting
artistic merit; books and writings published on a particular subject or leaflets and other printed matter
used to advertise products or give advice. One of the most popular forms of literature would be
English literature. If one would look up the definition for English literature, the best descriptive
information would be that it s impression and format is over one hundred years old, and continues to
be one of the most common studied forms of art, as far as written, studied in high schools and
universities around the world. English literature is basically the study of literature that has been
written in the English language. This form of literature expands past the most common American
language and dates back to the Shakespearean and Renaissance timeline. English literature has
progressed and taken many different forms over the years and constantly evolves numerous elements
that makes it such an elaborate art. It all begins with an emotion, perception, or experience the author
may have endured or witnessed. It is the understanding of these words and elements, which causes not
only the students that are required to read said literature; but those who appreciate the true authenticity
of a well written novel or short story, to truly appreciate the purpose and importance of it all. When
you are reading a novel can you easily depict who the author has designed to be the

Novartis s Transparency Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Introduction to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a measure of a business s impacts on society, both positive
and negative. Pharmaceutical companies in particular are held to a high ethical standard by the public
due to the nature of their products. Novartis, the third largest drug and biotech company in the world,
aspires to be a model of ethics and philanthropy in the industry. The company uses its size and global
prominence to set a high CSR standard for all businesses. This paper examines some of Novartis s
most recent projects that contribute to the company s respected reputation, but also investigates
lawsuits against Novartis and shortcomings with its transparency, both of which the administration
continually fails to address.
Recent Philanthropic Initiatives
Novartis has increased its budget for charitable healthcare over the last few years. The company
developed entire departments to oversee charity projects, raise awareness of diseases, and increase
accessibility to its products. These projects focus on providing both preventative and treatment based
healthcare to low income populations.

Censorship And Censorship Of Music
Throughout the years, music has evolved and transformed in many ways. However, there are
restrictions in today s music, otherwise known as, censorships. A crisis has emerged concerning the
issue of censorship. This argument consists of two possible stances: one, supporting the continuation
of censorship, and two, eliminating the status quo of censorships in the music industry. There have
been countless debates and arguments regarding the issues of censorship ever since the U.S. Congress
passed the Radio Act in 1927 (The History). The time has arrived for censorship to be brought to an
end. The government should release their grip on the censorship of music for the following reasons: it

I can t seem. To find myself again. My walls are closing in. (Linkin Park, Crawling ). These lyrics just
show to prove how much emotion was displayed into the song itself. With that said, censorship
sabotages an artist s intent to express themselves. Not only does it limit one s ability to put forth one s
feelings into his or her songs, but it also affects the artist s creativity.
Second of all, music should not be censored because it reduces an artist s capability to be creative. A
musician uses certain lyrics for a reason. Every lyric has some sort of meaning. Whether it be to
rhyme with a subsequent phrase, or going with the flow. Regardless of its purpose, it still has value.
However, creativity is not only limited to the lyrics in a song. Creativity can also be express through
rhythm and tone. The downside, one can only have so much creativity than resides in the tone of a
song. In the song, Never Take Away My Freedom it says, Can take everything I own. You can have
and sing my song. You can never take away my freedom (David Guetta). This means that he could be
stripped of everything that he owns. But his freedom can never be taken away by anyone. This holds
true about music as well. Artists have the ability to create any kind of music they wish. Lyrics help
surpass that limitation of creativity. An artist s lyrics cannot and should not be contained by the power
of the government. It takes time and dedication to create music. Musicians carefully

Impact of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill on USA’s...
Depleting reserves, high oil prices and spectacular offshore discoveries concentrated a global attention
to deep water (National Geographic, p.3). Joel and Bourne (2010) claim the Gulf of Mexico now
accounts for 30 percent of U.S. production, with half of that coming from deep water (1,000 to 4,999
feet) . The U.S. government roughly calculated that the deep Gulf might contain 45 billion barrels of
oil (NG, p.44). Hence, this fact gave new reasons for oil companies to drill oil wells in that region.
The Minerals Management Service (MMS), the national agency that administrated offshore drilling,

a matter of minutes or days. The millions of gallons of oil that have spilled into the Gulf of Mexico are

Taking a Look at the European Renaissance Essays
The foundation for the concept of modern humanism was established during the Renaissance in
Europe, which took place during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The European Renaissance
indicates a milestone in the shift of the human thought process. During this time period, people
became less focused on matters of theism and more focused on exercising philosophies of reason,
individuality, and learning. Numerous people developed an interest in a philosophy known as
humanism, also referred to as humanistic studies or the humanities, which challenged the structure of
society, especially when considering the role of the church. Such ideas sparked responses from a

Humanists believed that this ancient literature could reveal what was needed to live a moral and
effective life, as well as serve as a model for Latin style. Knowledge of the classics was coveted and
pursued by the intellectuals of Europe. The revival of ancient Greek and Roman texts, as well as the
spread of humanistic ideals, during this time period could not have been accomplished effectively
without certain advancements in technology that occurred during the Renaissance.
The humanist movement spread throughout Europe with incredible speed and sparked a number of
changes in society. The Gutenberg Printing Press was instrumental in the spread of humanistic
philosophy throughout Europe. During this time period there was an explosion of printed materials
and by the year 1500, around forty thousand titles and approximately eight to ten million copies had
been printed. These changes, though arguably inevitable, might not have proceeded with such
momentum without the aid of several key individuals that aided in the expansion of humanist ideals.
Francesco Petrarca, commonly referred to as Petrarch, is considered to be the father of modern
humanism. However, one might not think this of Petrarch when taking his solitary nature into account.
Petrarch was a member of the Stoic faction of humanists. This group of humanists relied on reason
alone to achieve gratification. Though Petrarch was a member of this group, he never really

Bridget Jones Diary And Men In Black Analysis
Viewers of popular film often give little thought to the deeper, underlying themes within the narrative.
Analysis of the film and knowledge of the cultural issues represented can be important for increased
enjoyment, understanding and a wider awareness of society. Bridget Jones s Diary (2001) (BJD) is a
dry humoured, reality based, romantic comedy about the life of a single woman who is searching for a
partner. Men in Black (1997) (MIB) is a fantasy science fiction film where agents protect the earth
from extra terrestrials. Although Bridget Jones s Diary and Men in Black seem similarly light,
comedic entertainment with customary conflicts, they differ in their approach to racial and feminist
issues. Besides BJD and MIB both being viewed as undemanding entertainment and immensely
popular at their release (Rogers 2010;Tatara 2001), they differ in audience, ratings and styles. MIB,
rated PG (http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?q=men+in+black t=lfc) is science
fiction, watched in the majority by males (Redfern 2012, p. 46) while BJD, rated M,
(http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?q=Bridget+Jones%27+Diary t=lfc) is part of the
romantic comedy genre addressed to a mainly female audience (Ferriss and Young, 2007,
p.32;Redfern 2012, p. 46). BJD uses minimal special effects as it is a reality based film. However,
MIB uses a wide range of special effects to intensify its aliens and science fiction theme (Tatara 2001;
Hicks 2007.p.110). BJD s music is older (1980 s) pop hits played to emphasise the emotions of the
protagonist. This contrasts to MIB s electronic and orchestral music combining to create an
otherworldly atmosphere without sentimentality. . In addition, BJD and MIB both involve protagonists
fighting for a cause: BJD fighting for love and MIB fighting for the planet. BJD uses a romantic triad
involving Bridget (Renee Zellweger) and two competing men, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), the upright
character and Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), the unethical character (Hedley 2002, p. 207). Their
escalating conflict decreases after they physically fight each other over Bridget. In the final scenes,
Bridget herself ends the conflict by choosing the more virtuous character, the preferred

The Protestant Reformation Of The Western Church During...
The Protestant Reformation was the religious revolution that took place in the Western church during
the 16th century and was initially aimed at reforming the beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic
Church. Western Christianity was developed in the areas of the former
Western Roman Empire and consisted of the Latin Church of the Roman Catholic Church, the
Waldensians, and Hussites, along with a wide variety of Protestant denominations, that include
Anglicanism, Anabaptism, Calvinism, and Lutheranism. This movement is said to have been sparked
by Martin Luther in 1517 and resulted in the split of Western Christianity.
During the Reformation, Martin Luther was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, monk
who was a very significant and influential figure. Luther s teachings state that redemption and eternal
life after death are not earned by the good deeds performed throughout your life. Instead, salvation is
only received as a gift of God s grace through how strong one s faith is in Jesus Christ as redeemer
from sin. This theology he believed in challenged the authority of the church and Pope by teaching
that the Bible is the only source of knowledge from
God. Luther also openly opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptized Christians to be a holy
priesthood. Sacerdotalism is the belief that propitiatory sacrifices for sin require the

Priesthood, are the only

Designing A Bedroom With Vintage Style
If you love vintage decor, the bedroom is a great place to begin decorating, especially if some of your
items have sentimental value. The top of a dresser or chest can be used as a display place for items
with personal meaning, and the rest of the room can be decorated with color and style in mind. From
fancy floral tissue holders to framed tabletop photos, the space can ooze with old fashioned charm.
Use these ideas for decorating a bedroom with vintage decor, and turn back the hands of time while
creating a comfy place for rest and relaxation.Hang a Grouping of Vintage Paintings with Composite
Frames Vintage paintings are available at flea markets, resale shops, estate sales and online. Look for
those with gilded composite frames and paper on the back that has obviously darkened with age. They
are decades old and ideal for decorating a bedroom with vintage style. Choose subjects that coordinate
with the decorating theme of the bedroom, or go with an eclectic arrangement of pieces from around
the same time period. The largest painting in the first photo was displayed for decades on my
grandmother s living room wall, and it was an ideal piece for my bedroom. I created a special area on
top of a tall chest of drawers to hold vintage items that had once belonged to family members. The
wall above the furnishing was the perfect place to display the painting along with a smaller one of
similar style. I found it at a local resale shop, and I purchased it because it reminded me

What Type Of Istj Personality
People with the personality of ISTJ are often people who are looked up to and known to be
trustworthy. These type of people are very factual based and like to stick straight to the point. This is
why they are known for being very efficient workers, when a plan is laid out for them and instructs
them of which tasks need to be done in order to complete it is when they get the most work done.
Someone with this personality would be one that does not give that much personal information out to

changed to snowboard, everything changed dramatically. I fell to my knees a lot until I felt the pain of
having several bruises but I kept on going on. It hurt and I felt the freezing white layer of snow touch

Nature Treatment of Risk
Nature Treatment of Risk:
It is impossible to win the great prizes of life without running risks. So it s needless to say the
influence of risk in our daily life as well as the business world itself. Well here are different risks and
their nature briefly discussed with requisite statements.
Risk:
An acclaimed quote of Ralph Waldo Emerson about risk says, I dip my pen in the blackest ink,
because I am not afraid of falling into my inkpot. Without being any more rhetoric here s what Oxford
English dictionary states about risk Risk is (Exposure to) the possibility of loss, injury, or other

The Impact Of The Edo Period In Japan
The Edo period in Japan lasted from 1603 to 1867, and it is associated with peace and prosperity, as
well as increasing urbanization and the rise of a new merchant class (Yonemoto n.p.). During the 15th
and 16th centuries, Japan was consumed by chaos and lawlessness due to the constant military
conflicts and political intrigue of the Sengoku (Warring States) period (Ebisawa n.p.). Oda Nobunaga
who was a prominent military and political leader of the Sengoku period was the first to undertake
efforts towards uniting Japan and created a foundation for establishing a prolonged period of peace.
He succeeded in subduing all the lands of central Japan and carrying out a series of revolutionary
reforms, such as liquidation of internal customs, opening of free trade markets, and compilation of
land cadaster (Ebiwasa n.p.). The main goal of Nobunaga s reforms was the development of foreign

Similarities Between Riyadh And Greensboro
All cities in the word are unique. Some of the cities have similarity and the other are different. Also,
some of the cities located in the same country but it totally different from each to other. It is different
in people behave, accent, and whether. However, my hometown Riyadh is very different from
Greensboro in United states. The three significant differences between them are size, weather, and
activity.
First, the important thing different between Riyadh and Greensboro is size. Riyadh is a big city and
population number was increasing every year. As a result, the Traffic sign sure will happen. In
addition, the distance between North and South is very long. For example, my home is in the north

the other hand, Greensboro is a small city when I compare it with Riyadh. At the sign, I have never

Factors Of Juvenile Crime
Juvenile crime has been a major issue in the United State, from the beginning and its impact on
society. People are trying to find effective ways to stop it. Juvenile crime has many factors that
influences the United States and makes people want to stop it. Juvenile crime is an issue that needs to
be stopped. Juvenile crime can be a danger to many people. Juvenile crime had a strong uprising when
conditions within the society got worse. Research over the past few decades on normal child
development and development on delinquent behavior has shown that individual, social, and
community conditions and interactions influence behavior(McCord). This says that in bad
environments in the community the children that live there are more likely to be an individual with
juvenile delinquency. Clearly, genes affect biological development, but there is no biological
development without environmental input, Bock and Goode (McCord, 66). This quote says that
environmental interaction develops kids, so kids that interact with a bad environment can end up in a
worse position than other kids [what other kids? Kids from a good environment? JMH]. The age can
influence whether or not a child will be a juvenile delinquent. Studies of criminal activity by age
constantly find that rates of offending begin to rise in pre adolescence or early adulthood(McCord).
This says that juvenile crime usually starts when the children are teens or entering their puberty years.
This can be a big deal because that age is usually when kids are influenced more easily. The
percentage of boys who self reported serious delinquent behavior rose from 5 percent at age 6 to about
18 percent at age 16 for whites and 27 percent for blacks at age 16. Loeber (McCord,68). This says
that delinquent behavior and crime rose for each race at the age of 16. The family influence also plays
a big role for a child if the child is going to be a delinquent or not. When families have difficulties
with the task laid on them, the product often is a juvenile delinquent.(McCord) This says that parents
with no care in how their child ends up will have their child become a juvenile delinquent.
Juvenile crime is affecting the United states because Juvenile crime and

Corporal Punishment Essay
Over the years, the use of corporal punishment or physical punishment, which is also known as
spanking, has been argued and debated upon. Children need to be disciplined and though there are
different forms of discipline, sometimes all a child needs is a little spanking to set them straight.
Corporal punishment is the deliberate infliction of pain as retribution for an offense, or for the purpose
of disciplining or reforming a wrongdoer, or to deter attitudes or behavior deemed unacceptable.
The argument over whether to spank or not to spank usually devolves into two points of view. The No
Spankers contend that spanking is child abuse, and that it is associated with various adult pathologies.
They have consistently argued that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spanking, when it is done for the right reasons, that is, for wrong done by a child, does no harm but
rather helps to strongly send a message to that wayward child that you as a parent are serious and that
negative behavior has to stop. Though I am at an age where my parent spanking me is totally
inappropriate, I survived the spanking of my early years and I believe I am a better adult because of it.
I turned out to be a law abiding citizen, who, as insignificant as it might be, has never seen the insides
of a police car, let alone a police station. I believe that the effects of spanking a child cannot be
decided through study or research. People are born with different characteristics; some children do not
have to be spanked before doing what they are asked to do, while some children are belligerent and
need that pat on the butt now and then to put them on the right path. I completely disagree that
children who are spanked turn out to have trust issues or lose sight of the differences between right
and wrong. The fact that they were able to notice or discover these traits in these children that were
spanked when they were little does not prove a direct correlation. There could be more to these traits
that lies underneath. What I do agree with though, is that spanking makes a child discontinue his or
her negative behavior to avoid being spanked and this helps create better

Most teenagers have parents they can rely on. Whether it s their mom or their dad or any other

mom is my only parent. My dad would oftentimes unconsciously act like he isn t my dad and more so,

uninvolved with the family, I became more involved. Because of my dad, I learned how to become
independent and not rely him anymore. However, despite his ignorance, my dad is still my dad and I

The Influence Of Media And Pop Culture On Young Girls
In today s society media and pop culture are heavy influences on girls of all ages. Everywhere we look
there is something claiming to make us happier, look better, and telling us how we can improve our
lifestyles. Young girls to young adults are drawn to these advertisements. Studies say that girls from
the age of thirteen to nineteen are most vulnerable to the persuasion of the advertisements put out by
companies claiming to help them live a better and more defined life. Magazines such as Seventeen
magazine target young girls using celebrities, visual techniques, and many other techniques to draw
their attention. To be in Style
One technique used by Seventeen is the use of bright colors to drawn in attention. They use bold, busy
colors and fonts contrasted on clean, crisp backgrounds to catch the young eyes of girls who connect
these contrasts with an upbeat style. They use bold, feminine, sophisticated type fonts to grab the eyes
of women. Their headlines stick out, making themselves the center of attention.
Most of these headlines are fashion centered. They use fashion to appeal to girls find the best clothes
makeup and hairstyles. They make it feel personal by claiming to know what will work for you and
your body type, face shape, and skin tone. They sell their secrets on how to look great every day. They
dress they re models in clothes that reflect the theme of the magazine. This appeals to the women s
desire to be in style.
Idolization
Another technique they use and one of the most commonly used by Seventeen is the use of celebrities.
Teens often look at celebrities as superhumans. They find celebrities to look up to. They idolize them,
want to be like them. Magazines use this to their advantage. They plaster the faces of some of the most
influential stars to their front pages claiming to help teens become just like their idol. They make sure
to cover all social platforms from actresses to singer, models, and socialites. Seventeen has used
people such as Sarah Hyland, Maddie Ziegler, Zendaya and Carrie Underwood. They use these people
as marketing tools. These people are seen in the public eye as credible sources especially by the girls
who look up to them. They try to appeal to the fact

The Relationship Between Taphonomy On Shell Stable Isotope...
RESULTS DISCUSSION
Taphonomy s relationship to δ¹³C and δ18O Using the taphonomic number described above and
displayed in Table 2; I examined the relationship between diagenesis of the recently dead to the
variation seen in both of the stable isotope records acquired here (Figure 3). The average value of each
taphonomic number is not as important as the fact that one standard deviation (represented by error
bars) increases from about 0.2 ‰ to 0.8‰ in δ13C values, and 0.3‰ to 0.9‰ in δ18O values as the
taphonomic number increases. If this relationship is universal, it represents a significant impact on the
records acquired by damaged, fossil or recent shells. As stated in the introduction some studies have

For example, the taphonomic measure of aragonite matrix delamination is more prevalent on the umbo
and commissure of the shell and rarely appears in the central shell region. Results show that the
commissure displays the highest levels of variation, with one standard deviation reaching 1.5 ‰ for
δ13C and 3.5 ‰ in δ18O values (Figure 4). These high levels at the commissure are similarly found at
the umbo with standard deviations of 1.5‰ δ13C and 1.1 ‰ in δ18O. Both records show a sweet spot
of low variation between 20 60% shell length (Figure 4). This increased variation in an isotopic record
could be attributed to 3 factors; 1) regional climate variability, 2) Taphonomic damage of commissure
and umbo preferentially, 3) varying growth rate on shell leading to varying degrees of time averaging,
as can sloppy drilling technique.
(1) Regional climate variability have caused these organisms to experience large seasonal fluctuations
in temperature and salinity both of witch affect the δ18O values of the Aragonite. To determine a
measure of time the percent shell length measure described above was multiplied by the average life
span of the organism to get a measure of years before collection.

Multi-Tasking To Music
Introduction to Project There are many steps to explain how the brain and the sense of hearing works,
but putting this one sense and powerful object together is something that could be considered multi
tasking. Multi tasking is the ability to do two different tasks at one time. Listening to music can either
be beneficial or not beneficial to one. It also might be effected by what type of music is being listened
to, such as classic music, pop music, or Chinese music. The ability to do two different things at once is
very skillful, but it could always be harmful. It could hurt your brain, and it can cause your brain to
like overheat because of thinking to much. There are many pros and cons between this multi tasking
way. People either think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in restaurants, offices, banks, shops, and hospitals. In all these locations there is usually
a song playing softly in the background. There are many jobs that do use music, such as therapist
because it is proven that it can help increase effectiveness ( Rong ). Multi tasking is doing two things
at once, or trying to do two things at once. When multi tasking your brain works completely different
from just doing one thing at a time. While multi tasking with two different task the front of the brain
takes one task, while the sides work together to achieve the other task that is at hand. Multi tasking
makes the brain go back and forth from the two or more activities ( The Multitasking Mind ). When
two activities are being done at once the brain divides into two different parts, and that was what

Summer Holidays
Summary The article, Should children study in the summer holidays? (Jackson, 2017) discusses the
pros and cons of continuing a child s education throughout their summer vacation. In favor of this idea
was Vivien Stiles, a professional tutor for Kumon, who argued that studying over the summer would
help children ease back into a full school year. Stiles continued to explain the program as a two day
school week which teaches Mathematics and English. The average time it takes for each student to
complete their homework for their class is between 15 and 90 minutes. Others, like Tanith Carey, fear
that extending classroom education into the summer may overwhelm some young minds. She
explained how her daughter felt so overwhelmed by her education experience she tried to deny an
award she won because there was too much that surrounded the acceptance of that award. Once Carey
realized how much stress the extra schooling during the summer was causing her daughter, she
removed her from the tutoring program so she could play and experience a stress free childhood. Over
years the results have been quite positive for Carey and her two daughters as they have both found
passions in the arts and are leading healthy happy lives. She stresses the importance of learning not
only in classrooms, but through nature, exploring, and experiencing the natural environment around
them. According to Carey some parents are overlooking how much their children really learn when

Escape Extinction And Its Effects On Society
The advent of functional analysis (Iwata, Dorsey, Slifer, Bauman, Richman, 1982/1994) and
functional assessments (Dunlap Kern, 1993) have provided behavior analysists with great ability to
provide effective treatment for their clients. One common topic of research is the treatment of escape
maintained behaviors. Multiple treatments have been established to treat escape maintained behavior.
Escape extinction is often utilized in the treatment of behaviors that are maintained through the
removal of demands. Escape extinction involves no longer allowing the delay, removal, or avoidance
of demands contingent on the occurrence of the problem behavior (Iwata, Pace, Kalsher, Cowdery,
Cataldo, 1990). Escape extinction provides some advantages as it is easily compatible with other
treatments, increasing the effectiveness of those treatments. However, escape extinction may have
some disadvantages including that it may be difficult for those providing treatment to do so with high
levels of integrity due to the effort involved in doing so. If treatment is not implemented consistently it
may make it more difficult to implement extinction in the future (McConnachi Carr, 1997). There may
also be an increase in the targeted response and aggression following extinction (Lerman, Iwata,
Wallace, 1999). While extinction is effective there are associated side effects that are incompatible
with wide spread use in many public settings such as classrooms. There is a need for

Bus Stop By William Inge
The visual that a play presents is a dominating factor in the quest to invite an audience member into a
world of which they feel a part. In a play such as Bus Stop by William Inge, this is especially
important because Grace s Diner plays a primary role in the storytelling. Inge s use of the iconic
American diner to tell his story is ingenious. Simply setting eyes on the set inevitably evokes pleasant
feelings of familiarity and comfort in the minds of most audience members. A diner is a place where
people gather; a place where individuals from different backgrounds share a similar experience. Inge

audience to see the action on stage without straining their eyes. Therefore, most of the light would be
generated from the lighting system in the theatre. It is imperative that the contrast between the diner

windows piled with snow on the outside, almost to the top of the windows, as if a snow plow had
pushed the snow up against them. The tops of the windows would appear to be covered in frost. This
visual would provide a realistic and budget friendly means of establishing the weather, because it

controllable velocity would contribute heavily to this. The warm colored lighting in the diner, as well

economy. To put this into perspective the country has a 59.4 while the world average is 60.3.
However, in the regional average 67.1. The country s today score is still a considerable improvement
from its former years where in the early 2000 s it was hovering below 50 and even just above 40. The
political situation in Serbia is continuing to develop especially with the international community.
Serbia applied for membership into the European Union in 2009 and EU accession negotiations are
projected early in 2014. Admission into the European Union would provide tremendous improvement
socially, politically, and economically.
Economy
The economy of Serbia is for the majority a developing service oriented economy, much like the
United States. Under the control of Milošević the country was oppressed and the UN sanctions forced
trade to a slow crawl throughout the country. The NATO bombings of 1999 destroyed much of the

Persuasive Essay On Hyper 1940
For centuries people dreamed of the transportation of the future. Would there be flying cars? How
could humans reach their desired destination in half the time it normally takes them? With unique
transportation comes many irreversible risks many are not willing to take. Currently, a man by the
name of Elon Musk has started pushing for the transportation of the future, the Hyperloop. The
Hyperloop resembles a futuristic train and Musk claims that it could reach speeds of 800 miles per
hour, meaning a trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles would be cut down to thirty minutes. At first,
this news seems incredible. People could visit loved ones more often, plan fun day trips that were not
easily planned before, and work in places not possible before because of the commute time. Upon
further inspection and research into this proposed transportation of the future there become
unanswered questions. Will the general public feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hyperloop would be a miracle for people who commute or travel often. Unfortunately, miracles
are not always realistic. A tried and true method of travel will always be the airplane. Soaring safely
through the clouds and traveling the world allows people the luxury of experiencing new places. The
airplane has more routes, less unanswered questions, and is drastically cheaper than the proposed
Hyperloop. On the other hand, the Hyperloop would be much faster and offer a pleasing futuristic
aesthetic. Both forms of transportation aim to please travelers, but the plane offers many more definite
benefits. Passengers traveling by plane have the advantage of getting to their destination much faster
than if they drove or took a train. As of right now, the plan for the Hyperloop is strictly in California,
which would make riding it impossible for some people. Most people are skeptical, as they should be.
The general public would rather stick with modes of transportation they are familiar

Code Of Hammurabi Natural Law
The Code of Hammurabi (~1780 BCE) is the first known preserved example of written law which
describes potential crimes and prescribed punishments (Code, 2017). Originating in the Mesopotamian
region, the codex serves as an edict and guide for the peoples of the region to follow in the course of
common civility within the larger society. The code was grounded in commonly accepted principles of
morality and ethics and provided a clear set of norms for all members of society to live together in
peace (Code, 2017, para 3). The Code of Hammurabi laid the groundwork for the idea of
jurisprudence in that; when the people know what is expected of them and are made aware of the
potential punishment in the event that declared potential crimes ... Show more content on

It is important to note that the Allies eventually established the laws and procedures for the
Nuremberg trials with the London Charter of the International Military Tribunal (IMT), issued on
August 8, 1945 (History, 2010, para 6). It was the IMT which, in a ex post facto manner, declared
under Article 6: Jurisdiction and General Principles, that the acts which fell under their purview were
those of Crimes against peace (a.), War crimes (b.), Crimes against humanity (c.) (Avalon, 2008). With
the final surrender of Germany during WWII occurring on May 8, 1945 and the IMT war crimes
description being committed to writing a full three months to the day after the final surrender of those
who would be tried for said crimes, there is no conceivable way under the positive law concept of
Nullum crimen sine lege that the individuals being tried could have known that the actions that they
took prior to the establishment of the law, and during the course of the war, would be punishable under
an international war crimes court which did not exist at the time of the actions. The intent of the IMF
was to ensure that any individual, civilian or military who had committed what the IMF considered to
be humanitarian atrocities would be brought to judgment

What Are The Similarities Between Shakespeare And Barabas
Shakespeare and Marlowe were both influenced by the anti Semitic ideas of the society they lived in.
Hence, Shylock from the Merchant of Venice and Barabas from the Jew of Malta is portrayed as a
typical Jew, which was stereotyped in the Elizabethan times. In both plays, a victimized Jew tries to
seek revenge against a Christian, but then eventually fails on the threshold of triumph.
Shylock and Barabas are both rich Jewish men, who are representatives of the same faith. From the
start of each play, both protagonists are portrayed as men to be despised.
Churches forbade Christians from engaging in money lending because they believed that it
endangered the Christian s soul. However, since the Christians regarded the souls of Jews lost, Jews ...

My gold, my fortune, my felicity. Strength to my soul, death to mine enemy, welcome the first
beginner of my bliss He refuses to acknowledge her presence making the audience believe that he
would pick his money over his daughter.
Similarly, in the Merchant Of Venice, Shylock is portrayed to be confused about which of the two; his
daughter or his money, is more important to him. When Jessica, his daughter, runs away, steals all of
his money and elopes with Lorenzo, a Christian, Shylock mostly worries about regaining his wealth
and not his daughter. My daughter, O my ducats, O my daughter! Fled with a Christian! O my
Christian ducats! Justice, the law, my ducats!
Money is one of the greatest indicators of how Shylock and Barabbas have confused their priorities,
focusing on unimportant things. The audience doesn t know whether money or love (their own
daughters) play a more significant role in their lives. Thus, the two characters are similar because they
are both driven by money and thus, portraying them to be heartless. The audience also believes that
the fact that they are both Jewish may have something to do with their evil

Examples Of Narcissism In The Alchemist
When Coelho included a different version of the story, Narcissus, in the prologue, he hinted that one
of the themes in the Alchemist would be man s relationship with nature. This was his way of
introducing the concept that all things are the manifestation of one thing only. And that when we
recognize that and begin to work with nature, that we will achieve great things. The lake, which
Coelho wrote about, in the Narcissus story supports this by saying, I weep for Narcissus, but I never
noticed that Narcissus was beautiful. I weep because, each time he knelt beside my banks, I could see,
in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected. After reading the book I came to believe that there
is an element of narcissism in following one s own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Englishman and Santiago are both looking for something, the alchemist and treasure. But the
difference is that the boy is searching by observing his surrounding and the Englishman is searching
by reading the books. Though they might not agree with each other s ways they still respect each other
and are good friends. As Santiago tells himself, Everyone has his or her own way of learning things.
The Alchemist chose to befriend Santiago instead of the Englishman because Santiago examined the
desert and the people of the caravan. The Englishman was immersed in his books, not bothering to
contemplate the desert until Santiago advised him to. The alchemist even says, He has other things to
do first. But he s on the right track. He has begun to try to understand the desert. As for the two hawks
and the falcon they represent the understanding of nature and what it tells us through symbols. They
also reveal the knowledge of how the world and all of its inhabitants communicate and ultimately
work together to find their personal legend. As far as the fact that they are dead, it is my belief that the
alchemist sent his falcon to kill them because Santiago read their

Similarities Between Wordsworth And Romanticism
Romanticism The Industrial Revolution in England brought major changes to British lifestyle. The
working classes experienced polluted conditions both in factories and at home. Technological
advances contributed to a less agriculturally dependent economy. The Enlightenment also reinforced
rational thinking, rather than imagination. The increasingly industrial society in England led Romantic
writers to emphasize the beauty of the natural world because they questioned both the advancements
of industry and the virtue of human rationalism (Kagan 416 418). British Romantics William
Wordsworth and John Keats both embrace the uplifting and inspiring qualities of the natural world in
many of their poems. However, while Wordsworth alludes to a ... Show more content on

Again, he creates an unearthly and spiritual mood to emphasize nature as a dreamlike domain. By
doing so, he recognizes the calming qualities of the natural world, and so takes time to recollect his
experience with the daffodils. In addition to incorporating a transcendental register of diction,
Wordsworth uses personification to develop the spiritual quality of nature. Wordsworth personifies the
daffodils and compares them to spiritual entities to create an ethereal mood in his poem, giving the
flowers a mythical quality. He incorporates mythopoesis, which is the making of myths ( Mythopoesis
). The daffodils are described as a crowd, / A host, of golden Daffodils (Wordsworth 3 4). In literature,
angels are referred to as the heavenly host ( Angel Wings Angels ). Wordsworth makes this connection
to portray the daffodils as mythical and angelic. Nature is personified as a spiritual being, which
makes it seem otherworldly, and thus Wordsworth presents the natural world as a dreamlike entity that
he can always look back on for serenity. Also, he describes the daffodils Tossing their heads in a
sprightly dance (12). The term sprightly derives from the word sprite, meaning a fairy like creature (
Sprite ). Again, Wordsworth compares the daffodils to a mythical being, making nature spiritual. He
constantly personifies the daffodils using mythopoesis to highlight

Life In The Fast Lane Analysis
Life in the Fast Lane is a classic rock song by The Eagles with an upbeat tempo; however, the lyrics
reveal a darker theme than the tune suggests. The song opens by introducing and describing the two
main characters. He was brutally handsome, and she was terminally pretty. because these are
oxymoron s it is saying that they are attractive people, but this is not the average happily ever after
romance song. This is reinforced when the song states that he was ruthless and cruel and that the one
thing they have in common is that they are good in bed. The song later reveals that they share a drug
abuse habit and party too often. This lifestyle is often looked at as glamorous but on the inside isn t as
rewarding as it seems. The second verse

What Was The Cause Of The Great Depression In Chinatown In...
Everything started going well until the 1930 s hit, that s when they started to suffer an extremely low
rate because of when the Great Depression. 200 or even more businesses were closed down in
Chinatown. When the war ended they started to reopen their businesses which made the population
increase. This had a downside because due to the living conditions the lived in an extremely small
apartment. This was a problem because newly immigrated Chinese had to find a home or with people
around the city. Some of the apartments had 12 people in a home and only had two beds to sleep in.
Around the 1950s and early 1960s, Chinatown was destroyed to provide space for a new project which

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Policy
It s 2036 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. College students have crowded into the bars on Dickson Street to
watch Senator Donald Trump Jr. faces off against Governor Chelsea Clinton for a presidential debate.
The topic of this debate: Domestic Policy. The two candidates shake hands, wave to the crowd, and
take their place behind their respective podiums. Megyn Kelly reaches for the microphone and asks,
Mr. Trump, since the beginning of automated driving in 2025, nearly 5 million Americans in the
professional driving industry have lost their jobs. How will your administration help transition these
workers to new industries? Ok, back to 2016. While the candidates in this future America may be

Compare this to the 36 seconds for a ride with an average price of $4.00 that NYC Uber passengers
currently enjoy. Additionally, consider that it is already more cost effective to use a ride sharing
service rather own a car if you live in a city and drive less than 10,000 miles a year. This means that as
automation advances, ride sharing will increasingly be a cheaper and more attractive option and
personal vehicles will greatly diminish. The future of transportation could conceivably be large fleets
of autonomous vehicles serving as the central mode of transportation. Now, consider how automation
will affect shipping and the truck driving industry. There are 3.5 million truck drivers in the United
States according to the American Trucker Association. Last May, the first self driving truck had a
successful test in Nevada. This truck was built by a a company called Freightliner, which has said that

The 1918 Spanish Flu Epidemic The 1918 Spanish Flu Epidemic was a deathly virus that made its way to every across the globe by 1919, leaving a devastating affect on the world s population and leaving many questioning any previous faith in religion and modern science. This essay will explore the global affect of the Spanish Flu Epidemic with special reference to its impact on South African society. Victims of the Spanish flu epidemic suffered from an acute infection in the respiratory system. The virus itself takes its form in droplets exposed to the air, which could then be transferred from person to person with ease. Droplets were emitted into the air by an infected person, which could then infect others who breathed in these droplets. • 4. The Stereotypes Of `` Stuff Asian People Like `` And The... Asians are typically loud especially when we are on the phone because we do not take insights of our surroundings. This is one of the biggest stereotypes about Asians out there. According to a 2008 online article called Stuff Asian People Like written by Peter; states that Asians tend to be loud due to adversity. We were compared to the Anglo Saxon legend of Beowulf. Asians are actually peaceful looking creatures who are soon to be evolved into creatures of such legends like Beowulf . According to Peter, we are compared to Beowulf because when Asians tend to talk loudly, it is as if we are screaming at the top of our lungs while trying to kill someone as Beowulf; a barbaric warrior would do. Peter also states that Asians tend to speak out loud due to the fact that we are stressed out in life. Peter is really basing this stereotype off of some kung fu movie, because we all know it is true that when someone like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee starts fighting, they tend to pull out some loud grunts. Also the article states that we speak loudly because we are not able to express our opinions due to communism laying a barrier on our world and once we hit America, we are loud due to that barrier being lifted. What a big load of lies. I say it is a lie because I used to visit my country of Vietnam back then, and Vietnam is a huge communist country, yet I have seen many people especially other ethnic Asians visiting the country talking extremely loud. An intricate system of ponds and ravines keep the lake filled with water. The park s designers, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux (also designers of Manhattan s Central Park), realized that there were several natural ponds in the higher mid section of the park. • 6. The Greatest Single Cause Of The War Essay The greatest single cause of the war was the system of secret alliances which developed. How far do you agree with this interpretation on what caused World War One. The first world war between the triple entente and the triple alliance is said to be the first modern war. A previously unseen number of human lives were lost on both sides and because of this when the war ended it came to be known as the war to end all wars as said by the former president of the United States Woodrow Wilson. The interpretation above is correct but only to a certain extent, one must understand and fully asses all the factors of the war before making a judgement. There are two clear origins for the start of WW1, long term origins and short term origins. Both must be analysed and assessed properly in order to make a just statement in regard to the main cause of WW1. There are four generalised long term origins of the first world war, Nationalism, Imperialism, Militarism and the world war one alliances. • 7. Impact Of Public Policy On Global Energy And Climate Change Aidan Johnson BBE2201 25 April 2016 The Impact of Public Policy on Global Energy And Climate Change As a political science major with a focus on international politics, energy and the environment are not just a means to an end but instead they are the focus of the work itself. Rather than studying business and needing energy to run things effectively, the study of international relationships is in the business of dealing with these large topics in energy reduction especially as they relate to reducing carbon emissions. The deeper one dives into the real core of worldwide energy production the more complicated and hopelessly confusing it may seem. With thousands of government policies dictating energy production, and hundreds of governments acting around the world to come to agreements concerning emission and environmental protection, the concern of global climate change as a result of carbon emissions has been seen by many as beyond hope. However, despite overwhelming odds, in December 2015 a landmark agreement was reached by 195 countries to decrease global fossil fuel emissions and attempt to mitigate the effects of global warming. Just a few months later in April of 2016 it was signed into effect by all of them, and while it still needs to be ratified in many countries this is a historic step towards protecting the environment from the harmful effects of global warming. Ahead a brief outline of our domestic energy policy will be examined, followed by an overview of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not only does it limit one s ability to put forth one s feelings into his or her songs, but it also affects the artist s creativity. Second of all, music should not be censored because it reduces an artist s capability to be creative. A musician uses certain lyrics for a reason. Every lyric has some sort of meaning. Whether it be to rhyme with a subsequent phrase, or going with the flow. Regardless of its purpose, it still has value. However, creativity is not only limited to the lyrics in a song. The U.S. government roughly calculated that the deep Gulf might contain 45 billion barrels of oil (NG, p.44). Hence, this fact gave new reasons for oil companies to drill oil wells in that region. • 16. Bridget Jones Diary And Men In Black Analysis Viewers of popular film often give little thought to the deeper, underlying themes within the narrative. Analysis of the film and knowledge of the cultural issues represented can be important for increased enjoyment, understanding and a wider awareness of society. Bridget Jones s Diary (2001) (BJD) is a dry humoured, reality based, romantic comedy about the life of a single woman who is searching for a partner. Men in Black (1997) (MIB) is a fantasy science fiction film where agents protect the earth from extra terrestrials. Although Bridget Jones s Diary and Men in Black seem similarly light, comedic entertainment with customary conflicts, they differ in their approach to racial and feminist issues. Besides BJD and MIB both being viewed as undemanding entertainment and immensely popular at their release (Rogers 2010;Tatara 2001), they differ in audience, ratings and styles. MIB, rated PG (http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?q=men+in+black t=lfc) is science fiction, watched in the majority by males (Redfern 2012, p. 46) while BJD, rated M, (http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?q=Bridget+Jones%27+Diary t=lfc) is part of the romantic comedy genre addressed to a mainly female audience (Ferriss and Young, 2007, p.32;Redfern 2012, p. 46). BJD uses minimal special effects as it is a reality based film. However, MIB uses a wide range of special effects to intensify its aliens and science fiction theme (Tatara 2001; Hicks 2007.p.110). BJD s music is older (1980 s) pop hits played to emphasise the emotions of the protagonist. This contrasts to MIB s electronic and orchestral music combining to create an otherworldly atmosphere without sentimentality. . In addition, BJD and MIB both involve protagonists fighting for a cause: BJD fighting for love and MIB fighting for the planet. BJD uses a romantic triad involving Bridget (Renee Zellweger) and two competing men, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), the upright character and Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), the unethical character (Hedley 2002, p. 207). During the 15th and 16th centuries, Japan was consumed by chaos and lawlessness due to the constant military conflicts and political intrigue of the Sengoku (Warring States) period (Ebisawa n.p.). Oda Nobunaga who was a prominent military and political leader of the Sengoku period was the first to undertake efforts towards uniting Japan and created a foundation for establishing a prolonged period of peace. He succeeded in subduing all the lands of central Japan and carrying out a series of revolutionary reforms, such as liquidation of internal customs, opening of free trade markets, and compilation of land cadaster (Ebiwasa n.p.). Juvenile crime has many factors that influences the United States and makes people want to stop it. Juvenile crime is an issue that needs to be stopped. Juvenile crime can be a danger to many people. Juvenile crime had a strong uprising when conditions within the society got worse. Research over the past few decades on normal child development and development on delinquent behavior has shown that individual, social, and community conditions and interactions influence behavior(McCord). This says that in bad environments in the community the children that live there are more likely to be an individual with juvenile delinquency. Clearly, genes affect biological development, but there is no biological development without environmental input, Bock and Goode (McCord, 66). This quote says that environmental interaction develops kids, so kids that interact with a bad environment can end up in a worse position than other kids [what other kids? Kids from a good environment? JMH]. The age can influence whether or not a child will be a juvenile delinquent. Studies of criminal activity by age constantly find that rates of offending begin to rise in pre adolescence or early adulthood(McCord). This says that juvenile crime usually starts when the children are teens or entering their puberty years. This can be a big deal because that age is usually when kids are influenced more easily. The percentage of boys who self reported serious delinquent behavior rose from 5 percent at age 6 to about 18 percent at age 16 for whites and 27 percent for blacks at age 16. Loeber (McCord,68). This says that delinquent behavior and crime rose for each race at the age of 16. The family influence also plays a big role for a child if the child is going to be a delinquent or not. When families have difficulties with the task laid on them, the product often is a juvenile delinquent.(McCord) This says that parents with no care in how their child ends up will have their child become a juvenile delinquent. Children need to be disciplined and though there are different forms of discipline, sometimes all a child needs is a little spanking to set them straight. Corporal punishment is the deliberate infliction of pain as retribution for an offense, or for the purpose of disciplining or reforming a wrongdoer, or to deter attitudes or behavior deemed unacceptable. Spanking, when it is done for the right reasons, that is, for wrong done by a child, does no harm but rather helps to strongly send a message to that wayward child that you as a parent are serious and that negative behavior has to stop. Though I am at an age where my parent spanking me is totally inappropriate, I survived the spanking of my early years and I believe I am a better adult because of it. I turned out to be a law abiding citizen, who, as insignificant as it might be, has never seen the insides of a police car, let alone a police station. I believe that the effects of spanking a child cannot be decided through study or research. People are born with different characteristics; some children do not have to be spanked before doing what they are asked to do, while some children are belligerent and need that pat on the butt now and then to put them on the right path. I completely disagree that children who are spanked turn out to have trust issues or lose sight of the differences between right and wrong. The fact that they were able to notice or discover these traits in these children that were spanked when they were little does not prove a direct correlation. There could be more to these traits that lies underneath. What I do agree with though, is that spanking makes a child discontinue his or her negative behavior to avoid being spanked and this helps create better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

RESULTS DISCUSSION Taphonomy s relationship to δ¹³C and δ18O Using the taphonomic number described above and displayed in Table 2; I examined the relationship between diagenesis of the recently dead to the variation seen in both of the stable isotope records acquired here (Figure 3). The average value of each taphonomic number is not as important as the fact that one standard deviation (represented by error bars) increases from about 0.2 ‰ to 0.8‰ in δ13C values, and 0.3‰ to 0.9‰ in δ18O values as the taphonomic number increases. Results show that the commissure displays the highest levels of variation, with one standard deviation reaching 1.5 ‰ for δ13C and 3.5 ‰ in δ18O values (Figure 4). These high levels at the commissure are similarly found at the umbo with standard deviations of 1.5‰ δ13C and 1.1 ‰ in δ18O. Both records show a sweet spot of low variation between 20 60% shell length (Figure 4). This increased variation in an isotopic record could be attributed to 3 factors; 1) regional climate variability, 2) Taphonomic damage of commissure and umbo preferentially, 3) varying growth rate on shell leading to varying degrees of time averaging, as can sloppy drilling technique. While multi tasking with two different task the front of the brain takes one task, while the sides work together to achieve the other task that is at hand. Multi tasking makes the brain go back and forth from the two or more activities ( The Multitasking Mind ). In favor of this idea was Vivien Stiles, a professional tutor for Kumon, who argued that studying over the summer would help children ease back into a full school year. Stiles continued to explain the program as a two day school week which teaches Mathematics and English. The average time it takes for each student to complete their homework for their class is between 15 and 90 minutes. Others, like Tanith Carey, fear that extending classroom education into the summer may overwhelm some young minds. She explained how her daughter felt so overwhelmed by her education experience she tried to deny an award she won because there was too much that surrounded the acceptance of that award. Once Carey realized how much stress the extra schooling during the summer was causing her daughter, she removed her from the tutoring program so she could play and experience a stress free childhood. Escape Extinction And Its Effects On Society The advent of functional analysis (Iwata, Dorsey, Slifer, Bauman, Richman, 1982/1994) and functional assessments (Dunlap Kern, 1993) have provided behavior analysists with great ability to provide effective treatment for their clients. One common topic of research is the treatment of escape maintained behaviors. Multiple treatments have been established to treat escape maintained behavior. Escape extinction is often utilized in the treatment of behaviors that are maintained through the removal of demands. Escape extinction involves no longer allowing the delay, removal, or avoidance of demands contingent on the occurrence of the problem behavior (Iwata, Pace, Kalsher, Cowdery, Cataldo, 1990). Escape extinction provides some advantages as it is easily compatible with other treatments, increasing the effectiveness of those treatments. However, escape extinction may have some disadvantages including that it may be difficult for those providing treatment to do so with high levels of integrity due to the effort involved in doing so. If treatment is not implemented consistently it may make it more difficult to implement extinction in the future (McConnachi Carr, 1997). There may also be an increase in the targeted response and aggression following extinction (Lerman, Iwata, Wallace, 1999). While extinction is effective there are associated side effects that are incompatible with wide spread use in many public settings such as classrooms. There is a need for ... Wordsworth personifies the daffodils and compares them to spiritual entities to create an ethereal mood in his poem, giving the flowers a mythical quality. He incorporates mythopoesis, which is the making of myths ( Mythopoesis ). The daffodils are described as a crowd, / A host, of golden Daffodils (Wordsworth 3 4). In literature, angels are referred to as the heavenly host ( Angel Wings Angels ). Wordsworth makes this connection to portray the daffodils as mythical and angelic.
