Pygmalion Essay
The distinctive voices, characteristic in any text/s, can be deconstructed to develop an understanding
which may validate, challenge or disprove society s values and/or beliefs within a given context.
Language, in all its forms, is a human thing, and allows the traces or imprints of human use, not
inherently but in its use. A text may promote obvious distinction between the authorial voice and
character s viewpoint. This can be seen in the play of Pygmalion in by George Bernard shaw and the
film Pleasantville directed by Gary Ross. Both of these texts show distinctive voices through dialogue
the use of dialogue which highlights the relationships and differences between characters.
Pygmalion is a play in five acts. It is about a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another distinctive voice in Pymalion is that Henry Higgins . is an important character in the play as
he is Eliza s tutor. He Is an expert in phonetics and is very proud of his skill and his ability to
transform Eliza into a lady. However he fails to follow the rules of social conduct when they are out in
public. This is evident in Act III when he was rude to the hostess saying: fearful bore for you this sort
of thing. Forgive my part in it . However he is most rough with Eliza. His voice is characterised by the
severe tone, high volume and use of profanity or insults. He also uses a harsh tone, particularly when
talking to Eliza e.g You won my bet! You! Presumptuous insect!/ I won it. In this quote he uses
exclamations, repetition and italics to show his emotion. This quote uses exclamations and repetition of
you to emphasise his emotion. He also uses the metaphor of Eliza as an insect to communicate his
anger but also create the sense that she is small and meaningless. This quote shows his inability to
acknowledge that eliza worked hard for the bet. Damn Mrs.pearce ; and damn the coffee; and damn
you: and wildly damn my own folly in having lavished my hard earned knowledge and the treasure of
my regard and intimacy on a heartless guttersnipe . At this point Mr.Higgins has truly lost his temper.
This is shown in the repetition of the curse damn . He has been hurt by what Eliza has said because he
believes that she is ungrateful. Eliza has won

Slavery And The American Revolution
Slavery has been a key issue in American history since the first settlers settled here in 1607. Historians
such as Vincent J Rosivach writes that when the issue of slavery is mentioned the first thing people
think about is the slavery model of the deep south, the cotton kingdom. Rosivach writes that there
were many different slave models such as the northern American colonies and 4th century Athens.
Rosivach and many other historians agree that the way slavery was done in the north was totally
different from the south. Slaves have had an important role particularly in the northern American
colonies helping them early establish themselves first as a region then as a country. Historians have
argued that America was built on the backs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the north owners usually owned only one or two slaves. Historians have figured that these owners
could have done without them if necessary. Owning slaves was less a commitment than a response to
labor needs. That is why we see blacks working in their owners shops. Historians like Shane white
argue that slaves now had an advantage over slaves in any other area, because these slaves were
picking up trades that could help in their future journey. Rosivach on page 552 talks about how slaves
helped the economy. White talked about the trades they picked up and now Rosivach expands on that.
Since most slave owners only owned a few slaves the owner s main priority was to make ends meet
for his family. Rosivach talks about how slaves could run the owner s shops if the owners had to leave
for a short period of time. Slaves also helped speed up production. With two people working it helped
the owner make more money. They were not running large scaled operations but simple community
ran business. Rosivach also states that even if someone did not own a slave in the north they could
produce the same amount of production as a slave and his owner. Rosivach is making the claim that
slaves are expendable and not a dire need as they were in the south. Rosivach and White both talk
about the type of work slaves did in the north. Along with that work came the person they worked for.

The Rampage of Polio
During the twentieth century Americans were afraid. They were afraid of the Russians, they were
afraid of the economy, they were afraid of Hitler, and they were afraid of polio. A disease as
indiscriminate as a nuclear bomb, it struck young and old, rich and poor, white and black. It caused
fear and hysteria, confusion and anger, paralysis, and even death. By this time the United States had
endured smallpox, cholera, yellow fever, and tuberculosis; but it had never experienced a wide spread
epidemic of a disease that seemed to specifically target children before the twentieth century.
Although polio effects people of all ages, children are the most susceptible due to their weak immune
systems. Many victims of polio were partially or completely paralyzed, and thousands died. The
summer plague would run rampant in the United States for nearly four decades. Before the 1890 s
polio was fairly common but largely unknown. The disease was very common in early history due to a
lack of sanitation but because many people contracted the disease they developed immunity to that
strain at an early age. If the infected persons lived through the early infection they were then immune
to that particular strain of polio. This meant that in excess of 90% of some populations were immune,
while less than 0.5% were paralyzed due to polio. Evidence has been found of polio in the ancient
world. Some scientists believe hieroglyph depictions of people

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound ( Hifu ) Therapy System,...
ABSTRACT In High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) therapy system, electrical impedance
matching networks should be used between the ultrasound transducer and signal generator in order to
maximize the electrical power transmission. Impedance matching networks are designed based on LC
resonant networks and that can be analyzed by analytical design theory and smith chart design
technique. Graphical method using smith chart is adapted to understand the concept. The reflective
power should be reduced after successfully matching the electrical circuit. However, the problem with
our case, HIFU transducer has been observed with significant amount of reflective during LC
matching network; that reflective power has to be reduced as much as possible. In order to eliminate
reflective power we tried transformer matching instead of LC network and we are getting desired
output. Even after that, we are getting slightly change over working resonance frequency which is not
optimum for highly focused ultrasound transducer application or any other application. However, if
we propose broadband matching network for transducer matching then we can increase the range of
working frequency and we can compensate that problem. To conclude, transmission power can be
increased by implementing broadband electrical matching networks. In this paper, I discuss the
characteristics and different applications of piezoelectric material and how matching is an important to
observe the behavior of

The disease has affected motor control over his body, but all mental functions, including cognition,
have remained unaffected. His upper extremities, lower extremities, and facial muscles have been
greatly compromised, thus decreasing his ability to walk, perform voluntary arm and hand
movements, and produce coherent speech. Stephen has been using two canes to aid in ambulation but
he has recently had trouble walking or standing without his wife s assistance. Loss of motor control in
his upper extremities has made it difficult to grasp the cane hand grips, feed himself, and perform self

Field Artillery History
In the Army customs and courtesies, as well as traditions, can be traced back through time and linked
to a certain place in history; this also applies to many of the tactics, techniques, and procedures in
place today. The battle of La Drang took place during the Vietnam War, where many changes took
place to adapt to the foreign battlefield. It is a battle that very easily highlights the changes the Army
has made in its utilization and techniques for integrating the field artillery with maneuver elements. It
displays the adjustment made a command and control level, by decentralizing the firing batteries from
the field artillery battalion, as well as the changes to how soldiers on the ground made use of indirect
fires.

Internet Privacy Essay
With the internet gaining such popularity, privacy has become a thing of the past. People have come to
accept that strangers can view personal information about them on social networks such as facebook,
and companies and the government are constantly viewing peoples activity online for a variety of
reasons. The government has attempted to help the consumer regain their privacy online by passing
the Consumer Internet Privacy Protection Act of 1997, although it is difficult to enforce and has
become outdated with the fast moving tendency of the constantly changing internet. Some companies

They also share personal information including email to several other websites, resulting in endless
spam. A study was done that proved at least 45% of the top 185 most visited websites are sharing user
information with another website and often, they share with at least four other websites. On many
websites, at the end of their privacy policy is a small, pre checked box that asks the user whether this
website can share your information with other websites. Many people don t even see this box, and end
up agreeing to it because it is so discreet and already checked off. Furthermore, Online advertising is
an enormous source of information collected about consumers, and serves as an important lens to
focus our understanding of data collection and use. (Harbour) These companies use text files called

Tchaikovsky Concert Review
On November 4, 2016 at 8pm, my friend Audrey and I went to the Nashville Symphony to watch
Mozart and Tchaikovsky concert. Audrey and I sat together in row C, Seats 21 and 22. This section
was close to front but still couple rows back in the middle section. The symphony was pretty crowded
on the main floor, and the balconies were semi full. When looking at the stage all of the artists were in
rows facing the crowd. They were in order based on their instruments which I saw violins, violas,
cellos, basses, flutes, horns and many more instruments. It was really neat how everything was set up.
The piano was not there when the first song played, after the first song played the piano was lifted out
of the stage s floor and placed onto the middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I liked watching everyone play their instruments and how amazing it sounded. Hearing the music in
class was not the same as hearing it in the symphony. The song came to a solo part then faded into a
quite yet unresolved close. Everyone stood up to applause, then they announced the next song to be
played which was called Manfred Symphony in B minor, Op.58 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This
section of the symphony lasted about 25 minutes. As it started I could hear the bassoons and bass
clarinet playing. Tchaikovsky features are elaborate, virtuoso orchestration with sound effects. For
example, horns play with pavillon en l air, with bells raised upward for a more climactic passage.
While the song continued to play I could also hear flutes, doubling piccolo, oboes, English
horn,clarinets,horns,trumpets,cornets,trombones,tuba,timpani,percussion,harps, harmonium, and
strings. The song had a fragile fleeting sound which becomes more impassioned, yet dramatic stroke
that quietly fades. Tchaikovsky music has a conventional sonata structure and plunges into a truncated
recapitulation following the enormous exposition. His music rises to a frightening climax and then
fragments into the movements to a shattering sound. The ending started to fade away in a B minor, it
was a gentle peaceful

Sociological Explanations Of Gender Display By Goffman s
This next section provides a general discussion of Goffman s (1976) gender display . This is used to
investigate how gender is represented through interaction, and therefore be seen as natural, while it s
being produced as a socially organised achievement . Femininity and masculinity are viewed as
prototypes of essential expression something that can be conveyed in any social situation and yet
something that strikes at the most basic characterisation of the individual (1976, p. 75). These are seen
as meaningful behaviour which are evidence of our essential natures . Goffman (1979, p. 69 70)

that there are crucial biological measures that differentiate males from females. Furthermore, other
cultures have become aware of the existence of cross genders (Williams 1986, cited in West and

argument that genitalia isn t revealed to society on a day to day basis; still we carry on observing a
world of two naturally sexed human beings. It is the assumption that measures are required that
supplies the basis for sex classification. They argue gender is cultural occurrences, rather than a group

One is the adequacy of the research itself. In view of the extent of the research, and the high
proportion of negative findings, this seems unlikely to be fruitful. I will deal with it here cursorily.
Another is the appropriateness of the research to the nature of the theory. In this respect I argue that it
is the sort of theory which is not easily amenable to crucial test, as Wahba and Bridwell accept. This
would usually be seen as a shortcoming. I here argue that, on the contrary, it is one of the qualities
which gives the theory its power. The third ground is that the theory itself can be refined. A series of
modifications are later proposed. The remainder of the paper works through a number of stages. The
general nature of Maslow s hierarchy is first examined. A the same time the adequacy of current
research methods to test it is assessed. Then follows a more detailed analysis of the theory. As a
consequence of this examination I propose a series of Maslow revis(it)ed Paper 02 5 modifications
to the categories of needs, their relationship, and the underlying rationale for the hierarchy. Finally, I
review the agreement between the theory and other general theories which address similar issues. The
nature of Maslow s hierarchy Before the research can be assessed or the theory reviewed it is
necessary that I clarify the very nature of the theory. Briefly, I argue that it is essentially a taxonomy,

Edward Snowden Research Paper
The German Intelligence Apparatus The German intelligence agencies roots go back to the days of the
Abwehr when Germany had the most sophisticated intelligence and counter intelligence agency in the
world prior to the start of WWI. Today German intelligence agencies are split into four different
agencies with some overlapping responsibilities and missions. The largest of these is the Federal
Intelligence Service (Bundesnachrichtendienst). The BDN acts as an early warning to alert German
officials of potential threats from abroad. Since it is Germany s only overseas intelligence agency it
collects on military and civilian interest. It often shares information and works closely with the KSA,
Strategic Reconnaissance Command, on those missions. Its primary missions are to collect and
analyze data on terrorists, WMD s, drug and weapon trafficking, illegal migration and information
warfare. The BDN has a $615 million Euro budget and has 6500 employees. The agency is one of the

Panthera Leo Research Paper
Taxonomy
Introduction
The animal kingdom consists of about 800,000 known species (to include those that have been proven
to exist). All animals have multiple cells and therefore rely on the cells of other living or dead
organisms for their sustenance (growth and development). Animals develop from small groups of
unspecialized cells and the animals with simple cells grow their missing body parts through
regeneration. There are 36 phyla in the kingdom Animalia, for instance, Porifera, Annelida, Mollusca,
Arthropoda, Echinodermata and Chordata among others (Dudley, 2002). Panthera leo
The African lion (Panthera leo), is a bold and admired species of the animal kingdom which
commands a lot of respect and fear in equal measure from human beings and wild animals alike. It
belongs to the phylum Chordata, class Mammalia, order Carnivora and family Felidae. African lions

dominate the pride of lions, which they have control over. Pride males form coalitions in order to
increase their chances of deposing an alpha male in another territory. Succession battles are violent

precipitated by the need to pass individual genes to the next generation of lions through the siring of

the defeated lion through the killing of the suckling cubs of their predecessors (Grinnel,

Monk Warriors from the Heian Period
While many individual monk warriors are still recognized from the Heian period in Japan, the most
notorious amongst them all in Japanese records and literature is Shinjitsu. Regarded as Japan s number
one evil martial monk, 1 Shinjitsu comes across as more of an akuso (evil monk) than the ultimate
representation of the greedy and violent sōhei 2 that previous interpretations and literature make him
out to be. In his book The Teeth and Claws of Buddha, Mikael S. Adolphson attempts to better classify
Shinjitsu as the monk commander and warrior administrator he was, and it is this new interpretation
that makes him so important. Shinjitsu, in historical records, was less likely to use his monastic
position than use his ties in the imperial court and with other nobility to assert his control, and was in
fact involved in the first event of the imperial court calling for help from monastic troops. Born in
1086, Shinjitsu belonged to a branch of the Minamoto clan, the Seiwa Genji, who were renowned for
their military services and accomplishments. After Shinjitsu s ancestor Minamoto no Mitsunaka
helped the Fujiwara clan strengthen their position in the imperial court, members from their branch of
the Minamoto family were called the teeth and claws of the Fujiwara. 3 Shinjitsu s grandfather and
father (Yoriyasu) followed in this tradition, and Shinjitsu seems to have picked up traits from both of
them, two of which are made obvious through the historical records concerning him.

As the drastic increase of social media networks has increased, so too has the cyberbullying
prevalence. Merriam Webster defines cyberbullying as the electronic posting of mean spirited
messages about a person often done anonymously. Kassandra Gahagan and her fellow colleagues
studied cyberbullying among students and its outcomes. Studies show higher rates of suicidal thoughts
and behaviors with victims of cyberbullying, along with higher rates of depression, anxiety and
paranoia (Gahagan, Vaterlaus Frost, 2015). While cyberbullying can be both intentional or
unintentional, it is a negative process which effects the victim. This includes comments, posts without
consent and messages. The study conducted sought to determine the prevalence of cyberbullying
among young adults and the negative outcomes through asking three questions. While cyberbullying
continues to be an ongoing controversy, depression is steadily increasing among social media users.

One Of Michael Jordan s Greatest Basketball Player
Michael Jordan wasn t born a great basketball player. He was given the tools to be an incredible
athlete, but it is what he did with those tools that allowed him to become one of the greats. Through
his talent, hard work, and determination, Michael Jordan became one of the greatest basketball players
of all time.
Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York to his parents Deloris and
James Jordan. He had two brothers and two sisters. He and his family soon moved to Wilmington,
North Carolina after his birth. At a young age, Michael Jordan excelled at everything he did
(Christopher).
Michael Jordan attended Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina (Johnson). As a
sophomore he played quarterback for the junior varsity football team and also ran track. Michael tried
out for the varsity basketball, but failed to make the team and had to play his sophomore year on
junior varsity (Christopher). Michael was so upset he went home and locked himself in his bedroom.

Oedipus King And Allegory Of The King
In Sophocles Oedipus the King and Plato s Allegory of the Cave, the main characters begin in a state
of darkness, either literally or figuratively, but throughout the texts, both are able to see the light
eventually and grasp higher knowledge. One difference between the two texts is that the main
character in The Allegory of the Cave is physically restrained from enlightenment. Meanwhile in
Oedipus the King, Oedipus is restrained by his rash, arrogant, and illogical actions. The contrast in the
situation between the two develops the idea that when someone acts solely on intuition, such as
Oedipus, he will be blinded by ignorance. This surfaces in Oedipus the King when Oedipus spurns
religious traditions, logical reasoning, and insightful advice; which then culminates in his downfall.
Oedipus s arrogance leads to ignorance right from the beginning of the play when he disputes the
prophet Tiresias. This dispute shows how arrogant and egotistical Oedipus is because religion was an
impactful part of ancient Greek life, which makes speaking out against a prophet such as Tiresias even
more shocking. When Tiresias refuses to answer Oedipus s questions because the answers are too
painful, Oedipus pushes on for answers. Tiresias denies Oedipus s request again, and Oedipus verbally
attacks Tiresias saying, You scum of the earth, you d enrage a heart of stone! (381). Oedipus is
infuriated by the fact the Tiresias refuses him. Although some may point out that Oedipus is

Gender Biases In The Music Industry
biases. Now when you take a look at the surface of the music business there seems to be diversity with
gender, but behind the scenes, this bias has changed very little. This behind the scenes industry
consists of music production, mastering, mixing, A R, administration and many other record label jobs
that are given. The gender biases that exist in today s music industry serve a harsh reminder of
influential sexism, most prominent biases are the attitudes towards women because of pre existing

executives acknowledge that they have made some headway during the last few years in terms of
representation in the marketplace. However, they urge the industry to keep pushing forward on the

The Old Testament Of The Bible
There are several great leaders in the Old Testament of the Bible. However, there are some that
deserve additional respect, and there are others that do not even have the great appearance or
qualifications of a leader. Just as there are leaders such as these, a person that is related to both of
these types of leaders is our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Old Testament leaders of the Bible that deserve
further respect or do not have the greatest appearances or qualifications of a leader are easily
compared and contrasted to Jesus s life and ministry.
Jesus life and ministry can be compared and contrasted to leaders of the Old Testament in the Bible
that are highly underestimated. One example of a leader who deserves a newfound respect Old
Testament leader is Queen Esther, who was once a poor Jew, was crowned queen when King
Ahsaurerus married her. The second in command of the King, Haman, underestimated Esther, as he
did not realize she was a Jew, and tried to kill every Jew that lived in their country. Esther knew she
needed to save her people so she revealed this plot to the king and said in Esther 7:3, If I have found
favor in your site, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be granted me for my wish, and my
people my request. 1 This bold statement is Esther basically saying that she would give up her life in
exchange for her people. This example is an excellent one of a great leader who deserves a far greater
respect than she deserves because Esther had the power

Writing Style Of Frankenstein
Mary Shelley writing style for the novel Frankenstein is very special as it is written in a creative
narrative point of view even though when reading it there are times when one can forget that Robert
Walton is the true singular narrator. Frankenstein is both a frame narrative and a story within a story,
the story within the story is seen through Walton telling of Victor s telling of the Creature s story.
Mary Shelley s writing style can clearly be seen in the novel with the letters from Robert Walton to his
sister in which you can see the narrative point of view, however as you continue to chapter one it
becomes hard to see that as it becomes the story within a story which then again happens when the
creature tell Victor about what he has been doing since he was created. All of theses events are told by
Walton yet it is hard to tell as the novel began to use words like I and my as if Victor was the narrator
for example I am by birth a Genevese, and my family is one of the most distinguished of that republic.
(19) which is describing Victor yet it seems as he is saying it. This can be seen throughout the main
part of the story but towards the end with You have read this strange and terrific story, Margaret...
(182) you can again see that Walton has been the narrator the whole time. Frankenstein is a novel that
is full of memorable quotes many of which have a much deeper meaning, one of the first ones is What

In order to develop and establish in vitro human spermatogenesis models, we need to build up an
unlimited source of human spermatogonia stem cells (SSCs). Human SSCs are a unique population of
cells in postnatal mammals that undergo self renewal. SSCs are rare in the testis, constituting around 1
in 3 000 4 000 testicular cells. It is difficult to obtain enough SSCs to serve for the toxicity testing
from biopsy of human testis. The rapid progress in stem cell research has opened a new era for
exploring human spermatogenesis. Mouse ESCs, nonhuman primate (NHP) ESCs, and hESCs have
been differentiated into primordial germ cells (PGCs) and fetal precursors of the spermatogenic
lineage [50 61]. hiPSCs can enter meiosis and in some cases produce haploid products in vitro [55, 56,
60, 62, 63]. hESCs and hiPSCs are reported to differentiate directly into advanced male spermatogenic
lineages in vitro [56, 62, 64 66]. However, the efficiency of generation of the human SSCs is still quite
low and different among the reports. The discovery of the method to generate human SCCs from
hiPSCs in a high efficiency will open up the possibility to provide an unlimited source of human
SSCs, which can be used to construct in vitro model for reproductive toxicity testing. Therefore, in
this proposal, we will use High Content Analysis (HCA) to optimize the culture condition to improve
the efficacy of differentiating hESCs to human SSCs, and apply these cells to develop an integrated
pathway based high throughput (HT)/high content analysis (HCA) for reproductive toxicity

MAPK And The Regulation Of The Isolation Of Eukaryotic Cells
Introduction Isolation of DNA along with transcriptional material in the nucleus, by the nuclear
envelope, from the cytoplasm and the translational material held there gives the opportunity for exact
regulation (Lange et al, 2006). The nuclear envelope provides the ability for regulation of gene
expression and signal transduction. With this regulation cells can, if exposed to an extracellular signal,
perceive and create an intracellular response to withstand or react to such a signal, for example, by
signalling cascades with the use of mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) (Brown and Sacks,
2009). A protein kinase can phosphorylate a protein at serine, threonine or tyrosine residues which can
affect its position within the cell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The many isoforms of JNK could have varying catalytic activity on their substrates such as the means
to phosphorylate a transcription factor (c Jun) in JNK1 and JNK2 (Liu et al, 2004). JNK
phosphorylate either serine or threonine residues when there is a proline after it (Hibi et al, 1993).
JNK can also be phosphorylated by autophosphorylation most notable in the JNK2 isoforms where it
still allows initiation of substrates with the strongest occurrence in JNK22 (Tsuiki et al, 2003). There
are three kinases involved in the MAPK phosphorelay system which act in series: MAPK kinase
kinase (MKKK), MAP kinase (MKK) and MAPK (JNK), which respond to external stimuli, shown in
Figure 1 (Johnson et al, 2005). There are a wide range of stimuli that can activate regulation of JNK
including ultraviolet irradiation, growth factors (tumour necrosis factor ), cytokines and even protein
synthesis inhibitors (anisomycin) activates MKKK and using phosphorylation to activate the next
kinase in the process, MKK, which in turn phosphorylates MAPK (Dérijard et al, 1994; Kallunki et al,
1994; Lange Carter et al, 1993). There are 13 different MKKK including MEKK1 4, MLK2/3 and
DLK that can act in the JNK pathway which provides the ability to responds these different external
signals (Brown and Sacks, 2009; Dérijard et al, 1994; Johnson and Lapadat, 2002; Kallunki et al,
1994). In the sequence of MEKK there are specific motifs

Legacy Of The Whitlam Government
The legacy of this government was that it instigated major changes in the social and cultural fabric of
Australia but it also challenged the philosophy of what an Australian is and what Australia
represented. The late 1960s and early 1970s were times of great change. Perspectives and acceptances
about imperialism, women s liberation, racism, ideology, religion, war, morality, social responsibility
and the natural environment were changing for a great many people throughout the world. Some
issues were long term political debates that had been presented previously but not received enough
support for legislative change.
The first Bill introduced to the Senate on March 1, 1972, the Death Penalty Abolition Bill was by not a

The children of the post war baby boom were reaching or nearing adulthood, Australia had a large
youth population and in typically ALP seats like Whitlam s own seat of Werriwa the youth population
was very high (6). The withdrawal of troops from Viet Nam and the end of conscription were also
issues that affected the youth of Australia.
Another legacy of the Whitlam Government is found in the support and improvements offered to
women. Soon after the Whitlam government came to power issues relating to rights and status of
women were either supported or addressed by the Government. This included the rights and requests
for equal pay for equal work, for maternity leave, amendments to the Public Services Act, grants for
family planning centres, more affordable availability of the contraceptive pill and a supporting
mothers pension for women who were the sole parent (7).
The anti racist philosophy forwarded by the Whitlam Government marked a major change in the ALP
and the White Australian ideology. The Racial Discrimination Bill 1975 represented a major
achievement of the Whitlam Government that effected immigration, indigenous affairs and rights,
international politics and the beginning of the multiculturalism policy.
Two other of the major policy changes instigated by the Whitlam Government were the introduction
of free tertiary education and the introduction of free medical services under Medicare.
The Whitlam Government also brought changes in the

The Identity of Black Women in the Post-Bellum Period...
The Identity of Black Women in the Post Bellum Period 1865 1885
Throughout history, the black woman has always had a multitude of responsibilities thrust upon her
shoulders. This was never truer than for southern black women in the period between 1865 and 1885.
In this span of twenty years, these women were responsible for their children, their husbands,
supporting their families, their fight for freedom as black citizens and as women, their sexual freedom,
and various other issues that impacted their lives. All of these aspects of the black woman s life
defined who she was. Each of her experiences and battles shaped the life that she lived, and the way
she was perceived by the outside world.

One of the first things that the black woman attempted, after gaining her freedom, was to obtain a job.
These women learned quickly, however, that they would not be equals just because they were now
free. The job opportunities available to black women, like many other aspects of their lives, would be
of much less quality than the jobs offered to the rest of the population. They would be low paying,
involve extended hours, and would put them in constant danger; black women would have to negotiate
the literal rough terrain of Atlanta and the social consequences it imposed on their everyday lives as
they struggled to earn a living for their families and searched for peace of mind. They would have to
persevere in their quest to work and support their household.
After the Civil War, all black citizens of the Unites States were allegedly free. The thirteenth
amendment banning slavery had been passed and the reconstruction of the South was moving along
swiftly. This promised freedom, however, was far from what was expected. There were many laws and
forces at work to keep blacks in some type of involuntary servitude. Some of the laws that limited
black freedom included making it a crime to hire away a worker who had been under contract with a
different employer (so called enticement laws), various contract enforcement statutes that bound the
black worker to their employer, and vagrancy statutes in which unemployed

My I Decided For A Teacher
The day I decided that I wanted to be a teacher I pictured myself choosing my favorite books and
having thoughtful discussions. I imagined my students would enjoy the many activities we completed
and at the end of the unit they would take a test and we would move on to the next topic. I was
unaware of what the field of education would actually entail. I soon learned that teaching was nothing
like what I imagined. I didn t realize that my teachers made teaching a classroom full of student look
easy because they used several techniques. They realized that they must take into account not only
what they are teaching (content), but also whom they are teaching (individual students) (Corley,
2007). As I ve learned more about my field I have realized that teaching involves providing the best
education to students based on their ability to learn. When you understand that this is what teaching is
about, you try practices that will make your instruction stronger. Differentiation is one way to make
sure that all learners gain the education they deserve.
Learning Plan When planning any lesson, I always consult the standards to determine what students
must know and be able to do. The standard for this lesson states, Students analyze, make inferences
and draw conclusions about persuasive text and provide evidence from text to support their analysis.
Students are expected to: evaluate the merits of an argument, action, or policy by analyzing the

The King, A Man With Broad Shoulders And A Muscular Build
This morning, the king received word that a fire snorting dragon was again terrorizing the countryside.
It is scaring the people of his kingdom, and they want to leave their land. He summoned his legion of
knights and advisors to the castle for a meeting. Once before the king sent the royal knights into the
area, they tried to stop the giant lizard from roaming the lowlands and raising havoc in the kingdom.
The knights, in their shiny armor, could not slay the animal. Only chase him back into the mountains.
Should he return to the valleys and fields they would have no option, but to slay him. The king, a tall
man with broad shoulders and a muscular build, is a respected leader on or off the battlefield. He
ordered the tables in the grand ballroom, pushed together to form a square letter U. The knights and
advisers will be sitting on the outside of the tables. The king, wearing his blue robe with the royal
crest, will walk back and forth on the inside of the tables. Looking troubled, the king rested his right
hand on the handle of his sword. As he walked by looking at the people sitting on the other side of the
table, he would, from time to time stroke his white beard with his left hand. With a stern and
demanding look on his face, the king made eye contact with each person sitting on the other side of
the table as he walked by. Stopping when he got to Titus, the king looked the boy for a moment, and

power to the executive branch. I am also convinced that having an annual session would be beneficial
for the oversight of the administration, and it would put administrative accountability for the execution

Monotheistic Religion In The Paleolithic And Neolithic Period
Paleolithic: The Paleolithic period lasted from about 200,000 b.c. to about 10,000 b.c. It was the early
phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed a steady development of stone tools, antler and bone
artifacts, engraving on bone and stone, and paintings on the walls of caves and rock structures. There
was not much structure built or agriculture done in this period as the people lived a nomadic lifestyle,
migrating with the herds of animals they hunted for food.
Neolithic: The Neolithic period lasted from about 9000 b.c. to about 8000 b.c. It was the last phase of
the Stone Age; and encompassed the domestication of animals, the development of agriculture, and
the manufacturing of pottery and textiles. During this period people were beginning to settle and
develop a more sedentary way of life. With this type of life style came territorial issues, meaning that
because of the idea of settling and claiming land people would be more likely to protect it or fight for
it.
Monotheism: The basic definition of monotheism is the belief in one God. The opposite of
polytheism, which is the belief in many Gods, who each serve a different purpose. However, for a
monotheistic religion, the God is all knowing, all seeing and all powerful; this God would be the sole
creator and provider. There are three major religions associated with monotheism, Judaism,

The Social Arrangement That Permits Have More Than One...
Polygyny, the social arrangement that permits a man to have more than one wife at the same time,
exists in all parts of the world. Although looked down upon by societies views mainly in developed
countries, among the 849 human societies, 75 percent practice polygyny. Seeing this, although
common in developed countries, it poses a question for the origin of monogamy. Is monogamy really
the prevalent practice or simply a moral ideology?
Ancient Hebrews, Mormons in the United States and Chinese traditionalists, originated the practice of
polygyny, however the modern day practice is concentrated in Africa, the Middle East, and Indonesia.
Although in a much advanced time, the traditionalist understanding for polygamy still holds true for
majority of those who practice it. Men are able to acquire these wives based on distinct factors, not a
brawl for all, as many perceive it to be. Polygamy is used for many different reasons. Per
Anthropologists it could be used for the following purposes: Increase the probability of children,
increase labor supply within a kinship network, dealing with the problem of surplus women,
attempting to expand a man s alliance (more power) or to provide sexual satisfaction during periods of
post partum for the woman (Macfarlane 1986). Polygamy is inclusive but not restrictive to the wives
sharing the same home along with the same husband. Some have wives with different homes that are

Some people claim to have been abducted, and some people believe it is crazy to say other life forms

Alien sightings continue to surface. The 1947 Roswell incident is a great example of a UFO sighting.

were small bits of metal that Marcel held a cigarette lighter to, to see if it would burn ( 1947 Roswell

Kraft has acquired more than 70 major brands (The History of, n.d., pg. 5). Kraft Foods Incorporated
is now the world s second largest food company with annual revenues of $49.2 billion (Kraft Foods,
2010, pg. 3). They are obviously a force to be reckoned with in the food industry, so how did they
make such a big mistake, and how did it affect them in the long run?
Ready to Roll Sweepstakes In June of 1989, Kraft Foods Incorporated put a promotional sweepstakes
in newspapers in Chicago and Houston in an attempt to attract the attention of those markets which
they did but not necessarily in a good way. This promotion was called Ready to Roll, and it involved
matching game pieces. The right half of these game pieces were printed out onto promotional flyers
found in newspapers in Chicago and Houston. The left half of the game pieces could be found in
specially marked Kraft cheese slice packages. If these pieces were matched together and sent in by the

Kellogg is $14.2 billion American multinational food manufacturing organization based in Battle
Creek, Michigan, USA. The food manufacturing giant has production units in 18 countries and it

come out as a successful brand known for its packaged breakfast food items.
Kellogg entered India in 1995. On its advent, it made another classification of marked breakfast cereal
items. From that point forward the voyage for Kellogg s has been a long way from simple, really it has
been tough to the point that it has ended up to be one of the greatest brand disappointments in India.

Kellogg s had a firm belief that its brand value conveyed forward from the west would reflect its
accomplishment in India. It pushed its overall effective quality firm pieces in a conventional manner
that had guaranteed accomplishment all through the western nations. However along these lines of

the company.
First of all, Indians prefer hot milk compared to cold milk. At the point when the Kellogg s flakes are
blended with hot milk, they ended up being saturated subsequently out rightly dismisses by the buyers.
Kellogg s later needed to adjust their food items to suit hot milk yet the harm had been carried out.
Secondly, the price of half kg packet of Kellogg s cornflakes was itself much higher when compared

Scripture Is The Infallible Word Of God Essay
Scripture
I believe that scripture is the infallible Word of God, divinely inspired by God through human hands,
for the teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training of Christians and forming the basis of the Christian
life and guiding them on the path to Christ. I believe that scripture is infallible rather than inerrant,
because human writers through which God spoke can still make mistakes. However, Matthew 24:35
reminds us that God s word is true in all ages and places. 2 Timothy 3:16 gives reasons why it is
import for believes to use the scripture such as teaching and correcting. Scripture guides us along the
path we should as evidences by Psalms 119:105 comparing Scripture to a lamp to show us the way. I
have also personal experienced the wisdom that the scriptures can offer to those who need guidance. I
also believe that scripture should be the main point of guidance, which is something that my church
has taught me such I was young. Matthew 7:24 instructs us to build our house on the rock (scripture)
which is the most solid place to rest our life.
Father
I believe that the Father is the first, yet equal, part of the trinity, the perfect, unchanging Creator God
who rules over the universe as the highest power. He always has been and always will be the eternal
master of humanity. I believe and have been taught by my church to believe, that God is part of the
trinity, equal in importance to the other two members. Jesus equates himself with the Father in John
10:30, saying

The Realism Of Realism And Film
The aesthetics of realism in each film can be utilized in many diverse ways to offer certain truths
about the world of the film to further express the film s story. These theatrical elements emphasize
what the film attempts to relay to the audience; moreover, it intensifies the authenticity of each aspect
of the film. The use of real people, on camera interviews, textual information, and of direct address to
the camera displays the realism of each film.
Textual information is shown in This is Spinal Tap and Shut up and Sing in various parts of the movies
and for different reasons. The first time textual information is presented in Spinal Tap is at the
beginning of the film. As the band plays at the concert, the camera moves to each band ... Show more

On camera interviews in both the films accentuate the films realism. In Shut up and Sing there is an
interview in the beginning of the movie which took place after Natalie voiced her impolite comment
about President Bush. This shows the audience that Natalie is in fact sorry she said what she had said
but not sorry she had spoken up. Martie furthers her point by saying that their band would not be as
eminent as they are now if Natalie restrained her outspoken attitude. Another example is when the
Dixie Chicks are interviewed after the release of their new song Not Ready to Make Nice. The
interviewer says that public opinion has changed much in the past three years and that Bush s ratings
have gone down. Natalie replies that they were compelled to write their newest album. This shows the
audience the band s determination to stick with their opinions and that Bush s support has decreased
while the band s support has endured. In Spinal Tap, there are several instances in where the band is
interviewed. It is relayed to the audience that several drummers that were once apart of Spinal Tap
have all died under mysterious circumstances. This element, on camera interviews, is used to disclose
some background of the band. Another example is when the lead singer of the band is interviewed
after Nigel quits the band. David says that he will move on because Nigel leaving is no different than
all the other people that have left the band. He also says

Canada A Civic Nation
Since confederation, Canada has been a nation that is completely different to the rest of the world.
Citizens embrace different cultures, religions and ethnicities as their own. When a civic nation is born
there are always going to be discrepancies; not everyone is united under one idea. Therefore, loyalties
begin to contend with each other which has resulted in the Canada we live in today. Separatists are
amongst the majority. Quebec, The Maritimes, Cascadia, The West, all want to be independent from
the government run within Ontario. As citizens we must ask ourselves, if the confederation in 1867
was offered to us today, would we accept?
Identity is a complex topic for Canadians. How can we define ourselves as a nation if individually we
are all different? The country of Canada became united under one flag and one anthem in 1867. Today,
separatists like Douglas Christie and Tom Best have a hard time connected with the anthem, our
countries means of unity. In the documentary Disunited Sates of Canada Douglas Christie speaks to
the comparison of the Star Spangled Banner to O Canada. He says that when he hears American s sing
there anthem he feels passion behind it and it leaves goosebumps under his skin. Yet, when he sings or
hears the Canadian anthem he does not feel confident in his nation. This statement touches on an
emotion felt by many Canadian citizens today, including myself. ... Show more content on

John Watson s Little Albert Experiment
In February of 1920 at The Johns Hopkins University, John Watson and his graduate student Rosalie
Rayner performed a controlled experiment that would show the effects of classical conditioning in
humans. Drawing from the influence of earlier psychologists such as Ivan Pavlov, and inspiring many
psychologists to come, Watsons experiment truly changed the field of psychology. Born on January 9,
1878 in Greenville, North Carolina, John Broadus Watson was son to a poor family. His mother was
very religions, and his father broke many rules of marriage by drinking and having affairs. John went
to the University of Chicago to receive a masters degree, where he met his first wife, Mary Ikes, with
whom he would have two children. However, John has the same habits as his father, and later was
divorced by Mary. He would next meet and later marry Rosalie Rayner, one of his graduate students.
Together, John and Rosalie would go on the perform the Little Albert experiment. This test, named the

In detail, his goal was to find out if a response of fear can be conditioned into a young baby, how long
it would last, and if it could be passed on. The structure of the experiment was simple. Albert was to
be placed in a room in which a metal bar stood behind him. First, objects such as a white rat, rabbit,
and cotton wool (neutral stimuli) was to be placed in front of him, to see if he reacted fearfully to
them. Next, the two researchers would hit the metal bar (unconditioned stimulus) behind Albert,
causing him to cry (unconditioned response). Then, to link the object the the response, when the object
was introduced to Albert, the bar was hit, causing him to cry with the object present. This sound, after
several trials, was later removed, causing Albert to cry (now a conditioned response) when the object
(now a conditioned stimulus) alone was shown to

Being Back To School
It s great being back to school. Although I m not too fond of getting up early in the morning I do
prefer to be busy with school than stay at home doing nothing the whole time. I m a new student at
College Park Middle School. I m glad to say that I like being one of your students and I will be
counting on you to teach me. I hope we can get along through this school year. I was born in the
Philippines which is an island in Asia on the year of 2002. I lived there with my grandparents, aunts,
and uncles till I was two years old. My mom came back to the Philippines and flew me to Korea with
her. There I met Shawn, my dad. A few years on 2007 my little brother, Donovan, was born. In 2009
we moved to Texas and lived there up to 2016. During that time my second little brother, Jonathan,
was born on 2013. My mom saved up enough money to bring her parents from the Philippines to
come live with us and help us take care of my two younger brothers and I on 2015. ... Show more

Laser printers are usually bigger than inkjet printers. A printer can print one sided or double sided.
Most small offices purchase an all in one inkjet printer which means that this printer can print from a
computer and can be used as a photocopier it is also able to scan documents and send fax through the
internet. Printers need to be connected to a computer or computer network either wirelessly or through
a cable to be able to print documents from one or more computers. Big company have often a range of
different printers and copiers available depending on what is needed by the staff: fast big quantity
printing or precise high quality picture and photo printing.
Scanners: They are used to convert a document or image into an electronic file that can be used and
stored on a computer, Sometime scanners are part of a printer but usually scanners that are the most
efficient are small scanners that can be attached to a computer through an USB cable they can scan
single sided or double sided documents very fast. They can scan in colour or in black and white.
Scanners are essential when a company needs to keep hard copy of their files in law firm in a medical
environment or in an accountancy department.

Comparison of Billy Elliot and Grease
The musicals Billy Elliot and Grease present both conventional and unconventional representations of
gender throughout. Both musicals also seem to obscure the message of the underlying gender
stereotyping issues by overshadowing them with elements such as music, dance and costume.
Men have been stereotyped as dominant, strong, brave and aggressive. Also there is an image of men
being portrayed as harder workers than women and supposedly the more intelligent gender.
Men are thought to be physically tougher, more aggressive, more rational, better able to handle sex
without love, and more likely to be successful at work by virtue of their greater will to win.
(Nicholson, 1993, 2)
Most often, men have less of an emotional attachment to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the music in Billy Elliot seems to confront the issues within the lyrics and not withdraw an
audience s attention from the problems that are presented within this show.
Billy initiates the music in his life. He has the potential to triumph over his environment. The lyrics of
the soundtrack are also noteworthy, as they imply that Billy is a born dancer. (Lancioni, 2006, 718)
He Could be a Star is a song that is sung in majority by Jackie Elliot about Billy s potential at
becoming a professional dancer.
He could be a star for all we know
We don t know how far he can go . (Billy Elliot Soundtrack, 2000)
Throughout Billy Elliot, Jackie is represented as a strong, aggressive and brave character, however as
he sings this song he seems to lack in these masculine qualities as he loses the strength to keep up with
the strike and appears as weak to his colleagues who may not understand the depth as to why Jackie
must leave the strike and go back to work.
Another element of musical theatre is dance, which is evident in both Grease and Billy Elliot. One of
the most famous dances from Billy Elliot is the angry dance, performed by Billy out of frustration
from constantly being mocked and disregarded because of his love for dancing.
This scene not only expresses Billy s rage, it visually represents his childhood. Billy is blocked by
barriers of gender, class, and

Misleading Marketing At For Profit Colleges Essay
Misleading Marketing at For Profit Colleges Restricts Societal Growth
Although for profit colleges offer higher level education to interested students, they also operate as
businesses attempting to maximize profit, which raises the question: should education be viewed as a
mere product/service to be sold to those students willing to pay a designated price or an enlightening
experience that is fundamental to improving oneself and society? Since for profit colleges are able to
make a profit, unlike their non profit counterparts, they have placed a larger emphasis on maximizing
revenue than providing valuable education, which has led to an increase in the recruitment of students,
who are the primary sources of revenue, through methods of advertising and promotion. The usage of
aggressive marketing strategies has been extremely effective in increasing student enrollment at for
profit colleges by appealing to vulnerable individuals, such as veterans or high school dropouts, with
the ability to obtain a better career and life. However, in an effort to recruit more students, the
advertising and promotional tactics used by these institutions have misled students by presenting false
information about tuition costs and credibility of the provided education. By doing so, students who
wished to participate in higher education to improve themselves have, instead, experienced mounting
student debt and an inability to find a job supportive of their degree. By belittling education into a

  • 2. Pygmalion Essay The distinctive voices, characteristic in any text/s, can be deconstructed to develop an understanding which may validate, challenge or disprove society s values and/or beliefs within a given context. Language, in all its forms, is a human thing, and allows the traces or imprints of human use, not inherently but in its use. A text may promote obvious distinction between the authorial voice and character s viewpoint. This can be seen in the play of Pygmalion in by George Bernard shaw and the film Pleasantville directed by Gary Ross. Both of these texts show distinctive voices through dialogue the use of dialogue which highlights the relationships and differences between characters. Pygmalion is a play in five acts. It is about a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another distinctive voice in Pymalion is that Henry Higgins . is an important character in the play as he is Eliza s tutor. He Is an expert in phonetics and is very proud of his skill and his ability to transform Eliza into a lady. However he fails to follow the rules of social conduct when they are out in public. This is evident in Act III when he was rude to the hostess saying: fearful bore for you this sort of thing. Forgive my part in it . However he is most rough with Eliza. His voice is characterised by the severe tone, high volume and use of profanity or insults. He also uses a harsh tone, particularly when talking to Eliza e.g You won my bet! You! Presumptuous insect!/ I won it. In this quote he uses exclamations, repetition and italics to show his emotion. This quote uses exclamations and repetition of you to emphasise his emotion. He also uses the metaphor of Eliza as an insect to communicate his anger but also create the sense that she is small and meaningless. This quote shows his inability to acknowledge that eliza worked hard for the bet. Damn Mrs.pearce ; and damn the coffee; and damn you: and wildly damn my own folly in having lavished my hard earned knowledge and the treasure of my regard and intimacy on a heartless guttersnipe . At this point Mr.Higgins has truly lost his temper. This is shown in the repetition of the curse damn . He has been hurt by what Eliza has said because he believes that she is ungrateful. • 3. Slavery And The American Revolution Slavery has been a key issue in American history since the first settlers settled here in 1607. Historians such as Vincent J Rosivach writes that when the issue of slavery is mentioned the first thing people think about is the slavery model of the deep south, the cotton kingdom. Rosivach writes that there were many different slave models such as the northern American colonies and 4th century Athens. Rosivach and many other historians agree that the way slavery was done in the north was totally different from the south. Slaves have had an important role particularly in the northern American colonies helping them early establish themselves first as a region then as a country. Historians have argued that America was built on the backs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the north owners usually owned only one or two slaves. Historians have figured that these owners could have done without them if necessary. Owning slaves was less a commitment than a response to labor needs. That is why we see blacks working in their owners shops. Historians like Shane white argue that slaves now had an advantage over slaves in any other area, because these slaves were picking up trades that could help in their future journey. Rosivach on page 552 talks about how slaves helped the economy. White talked about the trades they picked up and now Rosivach expands on that. Since most slave owners only owned a few slaves the owner s main priority was to make ends meet for his family. Rosivach talks about how slaves could run the owner s shops if the owners had to leave for a short period of time. Slaves also helped speed up production. With two people working it helped the owner make more money. They were not running large scaled operations but simple community ran business. Rosivach also states that even if someone did not own a slave in the north they could produce the same amount of production as a slave and his owner. Rosivach is making the claim that slaves are expendable and not a dire need as they were in the south. Rosivach and White both talk about the type of work slaves did in the north. Along with that work came the person they worked for. During this time before the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Rampage of Polio During the twentieth century Americans were afraid. They were afraid of the Russians, they were afraid of the economy, they were afraid of Hitler, and they were afraid of polio. A disease as indiscriminate as a nuclear bomb, it struck young and old, rich and poor, white and black. It caused fear and hysteria, confusion and anger, paralysis, and even death. By this time the United States had endured smallpox, cholera, yellow fever, and tuberculosis; but it had never experienced a wide spread epidemic of a disease that seemed to specifically target children before the twentieth century. Although polio effects people of all ages, children are the most susceptible due to their weak immune systems. Many victims of polio were partially or completely paralyzed, and thousands died. The summer plague would run rampant in the United States for nearly four decades. Before the 1890 s polio was fairly common but largely unknown. The disease was very common in early history due to a lack of sanitation but because many people contracted the disease they developed immunity to that strain at an early age. If the infected persons lived through the early infection they were then immune to that particular strain of polio. This meant that in excess of 90% of some populations were immune, while less than 0.5% were paralyzed due to polio. Evidence has been found of polio in the ancient world. Some scientists believe hieroglyph depictions of people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound ( Hifu ) Therapy System,... ABSTRACT In High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) therapy system, electrical impedance matching networks should be used between the ultrasound transducer and signal generator in order to maximize the electrical power transmission. Impedance matching networks are designed based on LC resonant networks and that can be analyzed by analytical design theory and smith chart design technique. Graphical method using smith chart is adapted to understand the concept. The reflective power should be reduced after successfully matching the electrical circuit. However, the problem with our case, HIFU transducer has been observed with significant amount of reflective during LC matching network; that reflective power has to be reduced as much as possible. In order to eliminate reflective power we tried transformer matching instead of LC network and we are getting desired output. Even after that, we are getting slightly change over working resonance frequency which is not optimum for highly focused ultrasound transducer application or any other application. However, if we propose broadband matching network for transducer matching then we can increase the range of working frequency and we can compensate that problem. To conclude, transmission power can be increased by implementing broadband electrical matching networks. In this paper, I discuss the characteristics and different applications of piezoelectric material and how matching is an important to observe the behavior of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Occupational therapy practice involves assessing and determining an appropriate treatment approach based on the client s disability and individual needs. In addition, the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process (3rd ed.; AOTA, 2014) denotes various frames of reference to guide therapists when choosing specific intervention strategies based on the client s needs (Cole Tufano, 2018). Loss of motor control in his upper extremities has made it difficult to grasp the cane hand grips, feed himself, and perform self care tasks, such as bathing, brushing teeth, and dressing. Stephen s speech production has been affected causing his words to be slow, slurred, and sometimes incoherent due to decreased motor control of the tongue, mouth, and facial muscles. Field Artillery History In the Army customs and courtesies, as well as traditions, can be traced back through time and linked to a certain place in history; this also applies to many of the tactics, techniques, and procedures in place today. The battle of La Drang took place during the Vietnam War, where many changes took place to adapt to the foreign battlefield. It is a battle that very easily highlights the changes the Army has made in its utilization and techniques for integrating the field artillery with maneuver elements. Audrey and I sat together in row C, Seats 21 and 22. This section was close to front but still couple rows back in the middle section. The symphony was pretty crowded on the main floor, and the balconies were semi full. When looking at the stage all of the artists were in rows facing the crowd. They were in order based on their instruments which I saw violins, violas, cellos, basses, flutes, horns and many more instruments. It was really neat how everything was set up. I liked watching everyone play their instruments and how amazing it sounded. Hearing the music in class was not the same as hearing it in the symphony. The song came to a solo part then faded into a quite yet unresolved close. Everyone stood up to applause, then they announced the next song to be played which was called Manfred Symphony in B minor, Op.58 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This section of the symphony lasted about 25 minutes. As it started I could hear the bassoons and bass clarinet playing. Tchaikovsky features are elaborate, virtuoso orchestration with sound effects. For example, horns play with pavillon en l air, with bells raised upward for a more climactic passage. While the song continued to play I could also hear flutes, doubling piccolo, oboes, English horn, clarinets, horns, trumpets, cornets, trombones, tuba, timpani, percussion, harps, harmonium, and strings. The song had a fragile fleeting sound which becomes more impassioned, yet dramatic stroke that quietly fades. Tchaikovsky music has a conventional sonata structure and plunges into a truncated recapitulation following the enormous exposition. His music rises to a frightening climax and then fragments into the movements to a shattering sound. The ending started to fade away in a B minor, it was a gentle peaceful ... Femininity and masculinity are viewed as prototypes of essential expression something that can be conveyed in any social situation and yet something that strikes at the most basic characterisation of the individual (1976, p. 75). These are seen as meaningful behaviour which are evidence of our essential natures . It is the assumption that measures are required that supplies the basis for sex classification. They argue gender is cultural occurrences, rather than a group of characteristics or ways of acting. In view of the extent of the research, and the high proportion of negative findings, this seems unlikely to be fruitful. I will deal with it here cursorily. Another is the appropriateness of the research to the nature of the theory. In this respect I argue that it is the sort of theory which is not easily amenable to crucial test, as Wahba and Bridwell accept. This would usually be seen as a shortcoming. I here argue that, on the contrary, it is one of the qualities which gives the theory its power. The third ground is that the theory itself can be refined. A series of modifications are later proposed. The remainder of the paper works through a number of stages. The general nature of Maslow s hierarchy is first examined. A the same time the adequacy of current research methods to test it is assessed. Then follows a more detailed analysis of the theory. As a consequence of this examination I propose a series of Maslow revis(it)ed Paper 02 5 modifications to the categories of needs, their relationship, and the underlying rationale for the hierarchy. Finally, I review the agreement between the theory and other general theories which address similar issues. The nature of Maslow s hierarchy Before the research can be assessed or the theory reviewed it is necessary that I clarify the very nature of the theory. Edward Snowden Research Paper The German Intelligence Apparatus The German intelligence agencies roots go back to the days of the Abwehr when Germany had the most sophisticated intelligence and counter intelligence agency in the world prior to the start of WWI. Today German intelligence agencies are split into four different agencies with some overlapping responsibilities and missions. The largest of these is the Federal Intelligence Service (Bundesnachrichtendienst). The BDN acts as an early warning to alert German officials of potential threats from abroad. Since it is Germany s only overseas intelligence agency it collects on military and civilian interest. It often shares information and works closely with the KSA, Strategic Reconnaissance Command, on those missions. Its primary missions are to collect and analyze data on terrorists, WMD s, drug and weapon trafficking, illegal migration and information warfare. • 15. Panthera Leo Research Paper Taxonomy Introduction The animal kingdom consists of about 800,000 known species (to include those that have been proven to exist). All animals have multiple cells and therefore rely on the cells of other living or dead organisms for their sustenance (growth and development). Animals develop from small groups of unspecialized cells and the animals with simple cells grow their missing body parts through regeneration. There are 36 phyla in the kingdom Animalia, for instance, Porifera, Annelida, Mollusca, Arthropoda, Echinodermata and Chordata among others (Dudley, 2002). Panthera leo The African lion (Panthera leo), is a bold and admired species of the animal kingdom which commands a lot of respect and fear in equal measure from human beings and wild animals alike. Monk Warriors from the Heian Period While many individual monk warriors are still recognized from the Heian period in Japan, the most notorious amongst them all in Japanese records and literature is Shinjitsu. Regarded as Japan s number one evil martial monk, 1 Shinjitsu comes across as more of an akuso (evil monk) than the ultimate representation of the greedy and violent sōhei 2 that previous interpretations and literature make him out to be. In his book The Teeth and Claws of Buddha, Mikael S. Adolphson attempts to better classify Shinjitsu as the monk commander and warrior administrator he was, and it is this new interpretation that makes him so important. Shinjitsu, in historical records, was less likely to use his monastic position than use his ties in the imperial court and with other nobility to assert his control, and was in fact involved in the first event of the imperial court calling for help from monastic troops. Born in 1086, Shinjitsu belonged to a branch of the Minamoto clan, the Seiwa Genji, who were renowned for their military services and accomplishments. After Shinjitsu s ancestor Minamoto no Mitsunaka helped the Fujiwara clan strengthen their position in the imperial court, members from their branch of the Minamoto family were called the teeth and claws of the Fujiwara. 3 Shinjitsu s grandfather and father (Yoriyasu) followed in this tradition, and Shinjitsu seems to have picked up traits from both of them, two of which are made obvious through the historical records concerning him. ... Oedipus King And Allegory Of The King In Sophocles Oedipus the King and Plato s Allegory of the Cave, the main characters begin in a state of darkness, either literally or figuratively, but throughout the texts, both are able to see the light eventually and grasp higher knowledge. One difference between the two texts is that the main character in The Allegory of the Cave is physically restrained from enlightenment. Meanwhile in Oedipus the King, Oedipus is restrained by his rash, arrogant, and illogical actions. The contrast in the situation between the two develops the idea that when someone acts solely on intuition, such as Oedipus, he will be blinded by ignorance. This surfaces in Oedipus the King when Oedipus spurns religious traditions, logical reasoning, and insightful advice; which then culminates in his downfall. Oedipus s arrogance leads to ignorance right from the beginning of the play when he disputes the prophet Tiresias. This dispute shows how arrogant and egotistical Oedipus is because religion was an impactful part of ancient Greek life, which makes speaking out against a prophet such as Tiresias even more shocking. When Tiresias refuses to answer Oedipus s questions because the answers are too painful, Oedipus pushes on for answers. Writing Style Of Frankenstein Mary Shelley writing style for the novel Frankenstein is very special as it is written in a creative narrative point of view even though when reading it there are times when one can forget that Robert Walton is the true singular narrator. Frankenstein is both a frame narrative and a story within a story, the story within the story is seen through Walton telling of Victor s telling of the Creature s story. Mary Shelley s writing style can clearly be seen in the novel with the letters from Robert Walton to his sister in which you can see the narrative point of view, however as you continue to chapter one it becomes hard to see that as it becomes the story within a story which then again happens when the creature tell Victor about what he has been doing since he was created. In order to develop and establish in vitro human spermatogenesis models, we need to build up an unlimited source of human spermatogonia stem cells (SSCs). Human SSCs are a unique population of cells in postnatal mammals that undergo self renewal. SSCs are rare in the testis, constituting around 1 in 3 000 4 000 testicular cells. It is difficult to obtain enough SSCs to serve for the toxicity testing from biopsy of human testis. The rapid progress in stem cell research has opened a new era for exploring human spermatogenesis. Mouse ESCs, nonhuman primate (NHP) ESCs, and hESCs have been differentiated into primordial germ cells (PGCs) and fetal precursors of the spermatogenic lineage [50 61]. hiPSCs can enter meiosis and in some cases produce haploid products in vitro [55, 56, 60, 62, 63]. hESCs and hiPSCs are reported to differentiate directly into advanced male spermatogenic lineages in vitro [56, 62, 64 66]. However, the efficiency of generation of the human SSCs is still quite low and different among the reports. The discovery of the method to generate human SCCs from hiPSCs in a high efficiency will open up the possibility to provide an unlimited source of human SSCs, which can be used to construct in vitro model for reproductive toxicity testing. MAPK And The Regulation Of The Isolation Of Eukaryotic Cells Introduction Isolation of DNA along with transcriptional material in the nucleus, by the nuclear envelope, from the cytoplasm and the translational material held there gives the opportunity for exact regulation (Lange et al, 2006). The nuclear envelope provides the ability for regulation of gene expression and signal transduction. With this regulation cells can, if exposed to an extracellular signal, perceive and create an intracellular response to withstand or react to such a signal, for example, by signalling cascades with the use of mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) (Brown and Sacks, 2009). The many isoforms of JNK could have varying catalytic activity on their substrates such as the means to phosphorylate a transcription factor (c Jun) in JNK1 and JNK2 (Liu et al, 2004). JNK phosphorylate either serine or threonine residues when there is a proline after it (Hibi et al, 1993). JNK can also be phosphorylated by autophosphorylation most notable in the JNK2 isoforms where it still allows initiation of substrates with the strongest occurrence in JNK22 (Tsuiki et al, 2003). There are three kinases involved in the MAPK phosphorelay system which act in series: MAPK kinase kinase (MKKK), MAP kinase (MKK) and MAPK (JNK), which respond to external stimuli, shown in Figure 1 (Johnson et al, 2005). There are a wide range of stimuli that can activate regulation of JNK including ultraviolet irradiation, growth factors (tumour necrosis factor ), cytokines and even protein synthesis inhibitors (anisomycin) activates MKKK and using phosphorylation to activate the next kinase in the process, MKK, which in turn phosphorylates MAPK (Dérijard et al, 1994; Kallunki et al, 1994; Lange Carter et al, 1993). I am also convinced that having an annual session would be beneficial for the oversight of the administration, and it would put administrative accountability for the execution of legislative policies to be easily enforced. The States may respond more rapidly to new federal laws which require state participation Annual session would eliminate the need for any special sessions The annual sessions may help policy making process more timely and orderly There are always a couple of bills that end up failing to get heard or advanced because of the way Texas holds sessions. • 35. Monotheistic Religion In The Paleolithic And Neolithic Period Paleolithic: The Paleolithic period lasted from about 200,000 b.c. to about 10,000 b.c. It was the early phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed a steady development of stone tools, antler and bone artifacts, engraving on bone and stone, and paintings on the walls of caves and rock structures. There was not much structure built or agriculture done in this period as the people lived a nomadic lifestyle, migrating with the herds of animals they hunted for food. Neolithic: The Neolithic period lasted from about 9000 b.c. to about 8000 b.c. It was the last phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed the domestication of animals, the development of agriculture, and the manufacturing of pottery and textiles. During this period people were beginning to settle and develop a more sedentary way of life. With this type of life style came territorial issues, meaning that because of the idea of settling and claiming land people would be more likely to protect it or fight for it. Monotheism: The basic definition of monotheism is the belief in one God. The opposite of polytheism, which is the belief in many Gods, who each serve a different purpose. However, for a monotheistic religion, the God is all knowing, all seeing and all powerful; this God would be the sole creator and provider. There are three major religions associated with monotheism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Olmecs: This civilization prospered from about 1600 BCE to 3500 BCE. Although looked down upon by societies views mainly in developed countries, among the 849 human societies, 75 percent practice polygyny. Seeing this, although common in developed countries, it poses a question for the origin of monogamy. Is monogamy really the prevalent practice or simply a moral ideology? Ancient Hebrews, Mormons in the United States and Chinese traditionalists, originated the practice of polygyny, however the modern day practice is concentrated in Africa, the Middle East, and Indonesia. Although in a much advanced time, the traditionalist understanding for polygamy still holds true for majority of those who practice it. Men are able to acquire these wives based on distinct factors, not a brawl for all, as many perceive it to be. Polygamy is used for many different reasons. Per Anthropologists it could be used for the following purposes: Increase the probability of children, increase labor supply within a kinship network, dealing with the problem of surplus women, attempting to expand a man s alliance (more power) or to provide sexual satisfaction during periods of post partum for the woman (Macfarlane 1986). Many people believe that aliens do not exist, and many people believe that aliens do exist. Some people claim to have been abducted, and some people believe it is crazy to say other life forms may exist out there. Interesting enough, many signs do point to the existence of extraterrestrial life forms. Many examples of Alien and UFO sightings include, such as spaceship wreckage, recorded sightings in the sky, and Alien life forms found on Earth and other planets. To begin with, reported Alien sightings continue to surface. The 1947 Roswell incident is a great example of a UFO sighting. An unidentified flying object crashed on a ranch northwest of Roswell, New Mexico, sometime during the first week of July 1947 ( 1947 Roswell UFO Incident ). Brazel said that as they rode along, he began to notice unusual pieces of what seemed to be metal debris scattered over a large area. Upon further inspection, he said, he noticed a shallow trench several hundred feet long gouged into the ground ( 1947 Roswell UFO Incident ). And, according to Marcel, the debris was strewn over a wide area, I guess maybe three quarters of a mile long and a few hundred feet wide. Scattered in the debris were small bits of metal that Marcel held a cigarette lighter to, to see if it would burn ( 1947 Roswell UFO Incident ). Misleading Marketing At For Profit Colleges Essay Misleading Marketing at For Profit Colleges Restricts Societal Growth Although for profit colleges offer higher level education to interested students, they also operate as businesses attempting to maximize profit, which raises the question: should education be viewed as a mere product/service to be sold to those students willing to pay a designated price or an enlightening experience that is fundamental to improving oneself and society? Since for profit colleges are able to make a profit, unlike their non profit counterparts, they have placed a larger emphasis on maximizing revenue than providing valuable education, which has led to an increase in the recruitment of students, who are the primary sources of revenue, through methods of advertising and promotion.
