Delisting the Grey Wolf Essay
Delisting the Grey Wolf
The United States Fish and Wildlife Service are considering removing the gray wolf from the
endangered species list once Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming have enough wolves to be deemed
sufficient to continue to expand the wolf population, requiring only that each of these three states have
a management plan in effect to prevent the gray wolf from becoming endangered again. With the
current attitude of the governments in these states, the wolf should not lose their federal support under
the Endangered Species Act as it would merely serve to cause the wolves to become endangered once
again, or at best, held to the absolute minimum population that the states can pass off as viable, self
sustaining populations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state legislature has favored the ranching industry above ecology and continues to do so. Public
polls conducted by Boise State indicate that the overwhelming majority of Idahoans (nearly 70
percent) support wolf restoration (Laverty, par. 4) and the legislature is seeking to remedy this by re
educating the public with a balanced view of the impact of wolves on big game species, those sectors
of the economy dependent upon sport hunting, livestock, domestic animals, and humans (State, 3).
Furthermore, the cost of wolf reintroduction will be presented as a part of any public education
program including direct and indirect costs (State, 3).
This so called balanced view was presented in a program in which the most misrepresented issues
concerned the economic impact of wolves. Ranchers were allowed to claim unsubstantiated losses,
with no attempt to validate the accuracy of these claims (Laverty, par. 2). In granting the balanced
view sought by the legislature, the program portrayed the salt of the earth rancher as a poor victim of
the federal government s whim to restore the killers (Laverty, par. 2).
The lies by omission also showed up in this balanced view program, it failed to expose the enormous
subsidies that benefit

The Characteristics Of Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe is a well known American poet and writer. He was born on January 19, 1809, in
Boston, Massachusetts but was raised as a foster child in Richmond, Virginia by John and Frances
Allan. His first collection of poems were published in 1827, the same year he moved to Boston and
enlisted in the United States Army. He was influenced by the Romantic literary era at the time but
much of his work is considered as the gothic genre, combining fiction, horror and romance. Many
credit him as the architect of the modern short story and with his focus on the dark side of human
nature, he is also known as the inventor of both the detective story and the horror genre. This work

The narrator describes near death experiences due to hunger and dehydration, the power of mother
nature and how the sea destroyed their ship. Survival instincts forced the crew to resort to cannibalism
for their survival before they finally landed on a tropical island where they were met by natives who
were intimidated by the white skinned strangers. The meeting of the civilized sailors and the
uncivilized natives described very different people who did not trust each other. When the natives
killed most of the sailors, Poe illustrates the similarity and primitive side of all people as they kill for
their own protection and survival. Pym managed to escape the island together with Peters and the
novel ends as they near the South Pole, leaving the conclusion to the imagination of the reader.
Edgar Allan Poe portrayed various themes throughout the novel. However, the main theme that stood
out was that of survival. Arthur Gordon Pym describes in his writings how he managed to stay alive
on board the Grampus after the mutiny that occurred and after the massive storm that nearly destroyed
the ship, tearing the sails, breaking the mast, and flooding the hold. All four men managed to survive
by lashing themselves to the hull. However, they get injured and bereft of food and water, going days
and nights suffering from thirst and starvation wavering between hope and despair. They endure
horrendous sights, such as a Dutch ship manned only by dead, rotting corpses, and the

Western European Religion Research Paper
For my essay, I chose to answer the question: Would you say the Western European
Christians in the early 16th century saw religion as a significant part of their lives? Why or why
not? This almost seems like a trick question to me as I feel, yes religion played a significant role in
their lives, but no I don t think they respected it as God intended. If you use money and political
status as a loophole in the system, is Christianity that important to you?
Through my readings and observations, I ve gathered that the central goal of many
Christians is to be free and clean of sins and accepted by God. Being taken in by God is ALL that
matters and they will absolutely do whatever is necessary to be certain this happens. Yes, I know ...

In 1517, a Dominican man named Tetzel was selling indulgences. He had people convinced
that if they paid for this piece of paper called an indulgence they would be pardoned of their
wrong doings. To me this act of fraud defines the word corruption in the Christian church
community. After the devastating damage the Black Death caused, Tetzel and his indulgences
came in at a prime time when people were most vulnerable. People witnessing their friends and
family dying left and right, everyone was in a panic because they needed to cleanse their soul as
soon as possible just in case the grim reaper took them away next. Although it seems Tetzel took
advantage of the faith of the Christian people, I don t think that s the case. The people buying
these indulgences took the easy was out in my opinion. As far as I know, nowhere in the bible
does it state your sins will be forgiven by paying someone money. A truly committed Christian
would know that and use the proper steps given to ask for God s forgiveness. This lack

Essay about Deep Sea Fish Adaptions
The discoverer of the titanic, Dr Robert Ballard famously referred to the deep sea as far more alien
than going to mars or the moon. The deep sea is one of the largest virtually unexplored ecosystems on
the planet; it is found at a depth of 1000 fathoms [1] and is subject to adverse changes in temperature,
pressure and light penetration amongst other factors. Therefore as expected fish decrease in
abundance, and species diversity. This trend is prominent as in order to survive the harsh conditions of
the deep sea, fish need a number of specific adaptations. Allowing them to ultimately survive, feed,
and reproduce.
The deep sea is one of the most hostile environments in the world, which a living organism is
subjected to. As you progress ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The viper fish (shown in figure 1) possesses large eyes to catch the little light present. This helps them
to locate prey as well as avoid predators. [4] Light cannot penetrate any deeper than the epipelagic
layer, therefore the only light present is that produced from the inhabitants themselves. A percentage
of deep sea fish are able to create light through the chemical reaction; bioluminescence. Most of the
light created by marine organisms is blue green in colour. As blue light travels best in water and most
marine organisms are sensitive to blue light. [6] Anglerfish produces the chemical luciferin which
reacts with oxygen to create light. The light helps species communicate, attract a mate or prey, or deter
predators. As the bioluminescent lure is believe to mimic the movements of zooplankton. [6]
Being the lower layer of the ocean, it is no wonder the pressure is immense for the fish of the deep.
The pressure exist between 200 600 atm , and in order to survive this immense pressure deep sea

collapse under intense pressure, instead they have neutral buoyancy where there bladders are filled
with lipids. The deep sea dragon fish lives at a depth of 5000 meter, to survive the dragon fish has soft

History Of The Glenlivet Distillery
One of the most famous distilleries in Scotland, the Glenlivet Distillery also has the proud honour of
being the oldest legal distillery in that famous whisky producing area of Highland Scotland Speyside.
Located near remote Ballindalloch, the Glenlivet Distillery was founded in 1824 by George Smith,
however illegal production had taken place on the site for decades previous. He broke with that illegal
tradition and obtained a distiller s licence but this attracted unwanted attention from the illegal
smugglers and many threats were made against the distillery, Smith himself and his family. His
perseverance paid off though, and with Smith acting as the pioneer many more legal distilleries
followed and the illegal smuggling all but died out.

Christian Worldview Research Paper
Western Civ Essay Hayden McLendon A worldview is one s presuppositions and values that a person
tries to use to understand the world around them. A presupposition affects how we believe and reflect
on how we view Politics, Science, and our ethics. A Christian world view helps us to interpret God,
Jesus, ideas, beliefs, convictions, and our habits of the world. The cool thing is that everyone has a
worldview whether they think it or not there isn t such a think as worldview neutral because believing
in not worldview is a worldview. God says in Matthew 12:30 Whoever is not with me is against me,
and whoever does not gather with me scatters and in Luke 9:50 Do not stop him, for whoever is not
against you is for you so being for God is follow his holy world the bible. So, when we read the bible
it says, That everything you do in the name of Lord Jesus, Giving thanks to God The Father through
him . A Christian worldview affects our economics, history, and actions. When we think about
economics we think money. But by keeping your life free from the love of money, and being content
with yourselves and what you have, God will never leave you nor will he forsake you. We should be

Its market reforms still aren t complete and its per capita income is still much lower than any
advanced country, which has led to China s high inequality. Along with economic issues, the rapid
economic growth has caused multiple other issues. China s main focus has been solely on its
economic aspects for so long that it almost seems as if they have been blind to the environmental
degradation, increasing rural crisis, growing unemployment and poverty, government corruption,
deteriorating public services, as well as escalating social unrests that is and has been occurring for a

massive environmental degradation and how it has been affected by the increases in Buddhist
religious freedom and ecotourism.
In 1949, China s natural forests were nationalized and private forests were collectivized, this gave
state enterprises control over the forests. The main problem that came out of this was that these
enterprises promoted leadership with higher profits from timber production. This caused managers of
companies to try to increase their profits from timber production but wouldn t use any of those profits
for replanting timber resources because they had no incentive to. This led to China s annual forest
volume harvested to be greater than the growth in forest volume, which directly connects to
deforestation. China had

Environmental Issues Challenging The Clean Water Act Of...
Coastal Area I live less than a mile from the San Francisco Bay and Estuary (SFBay). I wrote about
this bay s environmental issues in the Unit #1 Learning Journal assignment and have decided to use
this opportunity to elaborate on two specific environmental issues challenging the SFBay. To
summarize this ecosystem: It s the largest bay and estuary on the Pacific coast and has been damaged
by industrial activity, starting in 1850 with the Gold Rush and quickly followed by the logging,
railroad and salt pond industries. Its biggest threats are pollution, water diversion and filling in.
Conservation efforts began in 1965 and today the SFBay is collectively overseen by government and
private organizations. Two environmental problems the SFBay faces are mercury contamination and
overfishing. The Clean Water Act lists the SFBay as impaired for mercury. Estimates suggest the bay s
sediment is contaminated with about two hundred metric tons of mercury, much going back to original
Gold Rush. This pollutant has affected SFBay biota resulting in a state issued fish advisory waning not
to eat some common fish such as Striped bass and limited intake of other species (OEHHA, 2011; Ely
Viani, 2010). At the same time humanity was busy cutting down thousand year old redwood trees and
hydraulically destroying the Sierra Mountains, they were also busy pillaging the SFBay for fish,
shellfish and perhaps the unlucky whale pod that happened by. Some species were immediately
depleted and by

Descriptive Experience Of A Restaurant
The Wool Growers Basque Restaurant is located on the East side of Bakersfield. The location is in a
bad part of town. The outside of the building doesn t look very appealing and the location is
surrounded by old buildings and old neighborhood houses. As I arrived I was surprised to see a full
parking lot.
When I entered the restaurant I encounter a heavy crowd in the bar section. I was shocked to see only
white people from old to middle age. As I was walking down the hall to the dining area, I could see
many pictures of family generations. My classmates were there already, so we sat down and ordered
our meals. The place was packed! It seems like this is a very traditional family restaurant. All the
tables were occupied with grandparents, parents, and children. I could guess, there were about 150
people, and only Eva, Angie, Mirna, the waiter and I were Mexicans! I m assuming that many of the
clientele has been going to this restaurant as a family tradition. It was a neat experience. The food was
good.

Antibiotic Resistance By Bacteria, Viruses, Antibiotics,...
Background/Statement of Problem(s):One of the most critical challenges confronting the application
of chemotherapeutic agents in general, and antibiotics in particular, is the development of resistance
by target microbes such as bacteria, viruses etc. In most instances, antibiotic resistance, which is a
natural phenomenon, occurs when bacteria undergo or acquire mutation to alter the target sites of
drugs. As target microbes becomes less responsive to the inhibitory and killing effects of antibiotics,
the unfettered multiplication that results leads to therapeutic failure with consequent morbidity and or
mortality. This has been a serious and growing public health issue to which there has not been an
effective solution. The traditional answer to this problem has been to introduce new antibiotics that kill
the resistant mutants. Unfortunately, the pharmaceutical industry is now producing too few antibiotics,
particularly against Gram negative organisms, to replace antibiotics that are no longer effective for
many types of infection. This paper reviews possible new ways to discover novel antibiotics.
Supporting Data:Over the past century of antibiotic discovery and development, few parallel and
independent lines of discovery have been fruitful. The development of strategies to prevent the
evolution of resistance strains of microbes has been a top priority. In clinical practice, several
measures that have been tested to reduce the incidence of resistance development, including

Where is my health level at? How can I find out my health level? and so on. If you believe that you
are overweight the easiest way to find out is by using the BMI scale. BMI, Body Mass Index, is a form
of measuring ones body composition. Using your weight and height (in inches) you can measure your
BMI and have an idea of whether or not you are overweight. If the results are greater than 25 then you
are considered overweight under the BMI scale (4). Most people use the BMI scale to find out if they
need to lose weight or not. The BMI scale is not meant to be used in that way. It is only meant to be an
indirect measurement of body composition (4). Generally speaking, you are overweight if your results
come out to be over 25 as previously stated. Don t immediately fall to the conclusion if your BMI is
over 25 because the scale does not provide an accurate number since it does not take into account
many other factors. If you want a more accurate and official statement of your body weight and health
then there is the BIA method. Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), is a direct method of
measuring body composition. BIA uses the body s resistance and capacitive reactance to measure the
amount of water, nutrients and minerals and body fat (5). Using this method has a small fee as it can t
normally be done at home unless you have all of the tools. Typically, a BIA test will cost you around
20 30 dollars. It is not a bad price to pay because it gives you a lot

What Are The Characteristics Of The Second Beast
The second beast And behold, another beast, a second one, resembling a bear. And it was raised up on
one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth; and thus they said to it, Arise, devour
much meat! Characteristics of the beast. Regarding the second beast, we should consider the
following: The beast resembled a bear that is it looked like a bear and it had the character of a bear. It
was raised up on one side. Three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth. It was commanded to arise
and devour much meat. A second one, resembling a bear That is, after the lion had disappeared. The
bear was a well known animal found in Media, a mountainous, cold and rough country, covered with
woods. Its character is very much different from the lion or any other animal for that matter. There
must have been a very good reason why the bear was chosen to represent the second kingdom the one
that would succeed the lion kingdom. Bochart[4] says the bear is distinguished mainly for two things,
that is its cunningness and its ferocity. Aristotle[5] said that the bear is a greedy, silly and foolhardy
animal. In Hosea 13:8 God said to Israel: I will encounter them like a bear robbed of her cubs, and I
will tear open their chests. Writers on the natures of beasts say that none is more savage than a she
bear, when bereaved of her whelps [Jerome].[6] Another example of the bear s character is found in 2
Sa. 17:8 You know that your father and his men are mighty men, and that they are enraged, like a bear
robbed of her cubs in the field. According to the great King Solomon, there is only one thing worse
than a bear Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs rather than a fool in his folly (Pro. 17:12). The
characteristics of the second kingdom, therefore, would be things such as ferocity, roughness,
fierceness in war, especially when provoked. One would expect to find that its actions would be less
noble than that of the first kingdom. It would be, in other words, more severe in its treatment of those
that would stand up against it. This kingdom would apply a mixture of brutality and savage cunning in
its dealings with other nations. And it was raised up on one side The

is bad because our hands would hurt a lot after writing stuff in seven different classes. Also, we would
be using a lot of paper which is bad because people are cutting down trees for paper. Having
Chromebooks is also beneficial because if we are absent any day we could go one Google Classroom
and do the assignment or we could email our teachers so they could tell us what they did in class. We
are lucky that we get an education. Other kids around the world don t get an education. In 2013, an
estimated 110 million kids around the world don t go to school or can t go to school. Out of those 110

Employee Engagement Is Made Up Of Two Words, Employee And...
Employee Engagement
Employee Engagement is made up of two words, Employee and engagement. In simple words, it can
be defined as an engagement or commitment of an employee towards its organization. It is not entirely
clear when the term engagement was first used in relation to work, but generally the Gallup
Organization is credited for coining the term somewhere in the 1990s( Schaufeli, 2013 p.2).
An engaged employee can be easily distinguished from disengaged one by simply asking a question.
Ask an employee, what their company does? An engaged employee will say we provide software
services while a disengaged employee will say, they/Company provides software services. It is evident
from here that an engaged employee is involved completely to achieve the goals of company, hence
will be more efficient and considers himself as a part of the success of company. Various researches
have also shown that engaged employees are much more efficient than disengaged ones, which results
in positives for an organisation.
An engaged employee feels involved in and excited about his work. Engaged employees produce at
high levels individually, and contribute to improved business results. In fact, Gallup research shows
employee engagement can be linked to increased productivity and profitability, along with benefits
such as decreased turnover and absenteeism (Connolly, et al., 2013, p 48 52).An organisation with a
higher number of engaged employees is likely to be more effective, efficient

Justice and Moderation of the Soul in The Republic, by Plato
In his philosophical text, The Republic, Plato argues that justice can only be realized by the
moderation of the soul, which he claims reflects as the moderation of the city. He engages in a debate,
via the persona of Socrates, with Ademantus and Gaucon on the benefit, or lack thereof, for the man
who leads a just life. I shall argue that this analogy reflecting the governing of forces in the soul and in
city serves as a sufficient device in proving that justice is beneficial to those who believe in, and
practice it. I shall further argue that Plato establishes that the metaphorical bridge between the city and
soul analogy and reality is the leader, and that in the city governed by justice the philosopher is king.
The three men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This city eventually evolves into the feverish city. All desires are tried to be filled to its fullest
simultaneously. These conflicting desires cause unhappiness.
Glaucon sees the issue from the perspective of personal gain or loss, while Plato sees it from outside
that realm in the sphere of absolute truths. Clearly, an absolute truth is more viable and defensible than
a personal interest. Justice is a higher order than personal advantage and as is associated with
happiness whether one receives a reward for justice or not. The argument Glaucon raises against the
absolutism of justice is exemplified in his story of the man who discovers a gold ring that allows him
to become invisible. Glaucon proposes these two representative men as extreme examples of the two
sides of the argument and suggests that their positions be examined after their death to see which was
happier, based on the premise that the unjust man meted out injustice at will without ever suffering it
himself, while the just man acted only justly but was treated unjustly himself. Glaucon takes this
example to the extreme, with the just man being: whipped...racked...bound; he ll have both his eyes
burned out; and at the end, when he has undergone every sort of evil, he ll be crucified and know that
one shouldn t wish to be, but to seem to be, just (39). Glaucon sets these two men at extremes to prove

Summary Of The Celebrated Jumping Frog
I picked The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County , because I thought it looks interesting
from reading my classmate Mini s thoughts on Discussion Forum Unit 5. I felt a little out of sorts after
reading The Bet , but I knew The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County was the story with
same bet theme and I tried to read it for a change. The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County
has an as told to framework. A talkative man named Simon Wheeler relates to Mark Twain (the
narrator) the story of a gambler named Jim Smiley and the amazing animals Smiley used in his
schemes (Wilson, 1997, p18). Jim Smiley made a bet with the stranger. He offered to bet forty dollars
that Dan l Webster (frog) could outjump any frog in Calaveras County. But the stranger is a con artist,

Basic Military Training
We all have gone to our mom when we were little to ask her where dad goes each day. When she had
told us that dad had gone to work, most of us would want to know where he works. For me, my dad
was in the Air Force. It wasn t till later in my life that I learn that I have a long list of family, including
grandparents and numerous uncles. All my life I have wanted to join my family tradition and join the
Air Force. Before I join and I would like to know more about what I am enlisting to do, therefore I
would like to know what the benefits are. I have decided to do my Seiner project on that fact so I may
learn as well as share with you the benefits. This paper will start with the questions that I would like to
be answered, then I will talk about the different ways to join the Air Force, the benefits you will revive

The City Of The Chicago City
The Cloud Gate that is also called The Bean, is the best attraction in the Chicago city. As so many
tourists come from different region of world to visit the Chicago city, they see that shiny bean as a
selfie place. The bean is in Millennium Park which is open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. with free
admission. The visitors traveling can get to the park using primary Chicago public transportations
either bus or subway. Using CTA, one can take red line subway train to Randolph and from there it is
a short walk. The bean is the centerpiece of AT T plaza at millennium park, and it get extremely busy
in weekends. It is surrounded by huge tall building which are reflected on the bean by various shapes.
As people go around the city, they see different sculptures all around, but some people think that the
Cloud Gate is the Chicago s icon. The tourist does not miss to see that icon because it s a place for
taking memorable pictures and looking at the skyline of the Chicago city on the bright Bean.
The sculpture of Cloud Gate was designed by Anish Kapoor in 2006. He was born in India on March
12, 1954. He moved to London for further studies about arts in 1970s. It was his first public artwork
that he created in United States. Among 30 artists who submitted their sketches to build a sculpture in
the park, the millennium park officials selected Anish Kapoor s model as their top choice. The design

The Yellow Wallpaper Response
A short story is engaging, if its focus is on one character, a variety of literary devices are used to show
rather than tell a story and an impressive and well built plot. To prove my point of view, I will use The
Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Firstly, a short story is satisfying if it revolves around
a single character. The Yellow Wallpaper is about Jane , who is suffering from postpartum depression,
but doctors misdiagnosis it as hysteria and prescribes perfect bed rest and isolation. She is staying in a
bedroom which has yellow wallpaper. Being trapped in bed, isolated from others except for her
husband and husband s sister, staying away from her baby, in this situation her only activity is to look
at the wallpaper which she describes as It is dull enough to confuse the eye in following, pronounced
enough to constantly irritate and provoke study, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gradually, she starts to think that there is a woman trapped behind the yellow wallpaper who wants to
come outside. She tears down the wallpaper so that woman is free from imprisonment. Secondly, the
use of figurative language is crucial for an impressive pleasurable short story. For instance, in The
Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte uses delicious garden, atrocious nursery, blessed little goose, mysterious
deep shaded arbors, the riotous old fashioned flowers, gnarly trees etc. About the paper she expresses
her feeling as this paper looks to me as if it knew what a vicious influence it had, the pattern lolls look
like a broken neck and two bulbous eyes. Up and down and sideways they crawl, and those absurd
unblinking eyes are everywhere . Afterward, she thinks that it is like a woman stooping down and

Triangular Number Of Triangular Numbers
Triangular Numbers
Eli Nazarian
Ms. Ramson
H Algebra 2A
October 21, 2014
A triangular number is a number that counts the amount of objects that form when they are put
together to form an equilateral triangle (a triangle with all equal sides). The most common object used
to form a triangle are dots. When the dots create an equilateral triangle, the number of dots seen in the
triangle represent the triangular number. Overall, the sequence is generated from a pattern of dots
which form a triangle.
The first row contains a single dot and each subsequent row contains more dots than the previous one.
The sequence of triangular numbers are: 1, 3, 6,10, 15, 21... and so on.
When working with multiple triangles, each triangle is assigned a triangle number. For example,
triangle one (T1) has a triangular number of one. Triangle three has a triangular number of six. The
letter T, followed but a number represents a certain triangle.
The formula to calculate the amount of object using a stated length is:
Tn(th)= n(n+1) 2
T represents triangle number. N represents the length of the three sides of the equilateral triangle. If a
number (and only whole numbers) were plugged in for N. The final answer of the problem would
equal the number objects (dots) in the equilateral triangle.
Example: n= length of 6 Formula: Tnth= n(n+1) 2
Plug in 6 for n. T6th=6(6+1) 2
Solve. T6th= 6(7) T6th=42 T6th=21. 2 2

Anna Karenina Essay
In Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy presents marriage in a realistic sense, marriage is not an easy
institution; couples must work through the rough patches in order for it to be strong; he also presents
passion as a force that can have a positive influence, but simultaneously presents passion as a factor
that can have a corrupting power on a person s life. These two couples, Levin and Kitty and Vronsky
and Anna, are compared throughout the course of the novel. Levin and Kitty differ from Anna and
Vronsky because they do not communicate in the same ways. Kitty and Levin try to resolve issues as
they arise, so that they do not create a bigger issue. Another difference is that Ann and Vronsky are
sheltered from society because of Anna s position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are completely open with each other, no matter how difficult the subject is to talk about. Anna
and Vronsky are completely different with respect to their communication. They are described as
having a dark and powerful spiritual bond (Merezhlevosky, pg.772). Because their relationship is
based solely on love, it is harder for them to communicate effectively. Rather than take the time to
solve a problem, Anna and Vronsky blame each other for the problems. Anna is described as getting
more and more heated and thereby betraying the cause of her irritation (pg.326). Anna simply gets
angry and as a result cannot have a conversation with Vronsky. This is quite different from the Anna
we are introduced to early on in the novel. She is portrayed as a sweet, charming woman. This kind of
attitude is not at all what is expected of Anna. Vronsky is does not handle situations well either. At one
point in an argument, Vronsky leaves. He is described as having announced his departure (pg.584).
Unlike Kitty and Levin, Anna and Vronsky try to avoid each other when an issue comes up.
Because of Anna s position as a fallen woman, she and Vronsky lead rather different social lives than
do Kitty and Levin. As Anna and Vronsky s relationship develops and becomes public, their
interactions with society become dulled. At one point, Anna wishes to go to the theatre; however

Architecture Of Anglo Saxon Architecture
Early Britain was an era of take overs and violence , overall it was a time of darkness , but despite the
darkness this Anglo Saxon era was a time filled with a new culture and government . Anglo Saxons
came to Britain sometime during AD 425 450 and lasted until 1066 . When the Romans left Britain ,
new settlement began . With the new population in Britain , there was a need for housing too , the
Anglo Saxon architecture however , did not start until the mid fifth century . Anglo Saxon architecture
is a different style than modern architecture .
The Anglo Saxon era was not as advanced as we are today , meaning they had to make do with the
resources they had . The resources the had were any natural resources around them or materials that
were man made . The Anglo Saxon homes were not built to last , but to provide shelter . Since the
housing was meant to last . Wattle and Daub has been used to create a filler for the wooden frames . It
used materials that could be found easily which made it affordable to builders . The wattle and daub is
made by weaving together small wooden branches to create a wall . Mud , straw , horsehair and cow
or horse dung is mixed together and then smeared on the walls . Once this dries it is like plaster and
can even be painted . (Glover). In house framing we mostly use wood , but we are starting to use more
steel and concrete . Most interior walls are made of plaster or drywalls but can also be made of a stone
or brick . The walls are made

Similarities Between Jefferson Memorial And Pantheon
There are many similarities and differences between the Roman architecture and the Renaissance
architecture. The similarities between the Pantheon and St Peters Basilica are that they contain a
circular domed rotunda. They both contain Corinthian columns with a triangular pediment above.
They also both have a portico. Inside, both the building has several niches 9 . Both building have a
symmetrical layout. There have many architectural features that are very similar as Michelangelo, one
of the architects of St. Peters Basilica, studied the Pantheon before making designs 6 ; he based the St

The similarities in the architectural features are that they both have a spherical dome. They both have
steps leading up to the portico. Both buildings also have a pediment held up by the columns. Both the
structures are symmetrical and have 8 columns at the front. They have many similarities as the
Pantheon influenced Thomas Jefferson to make a similar structure, and because of the common dome
both the structures symbolized unity, and power. The difference is that the columns of the Pantheon
were Corinthian style columns in contrast to the Ionic style columns of the Jefferson Memorial. The
cella of the Jefferson memorial is open with columns as walls all around the rotunda. They were also
used for different purposes, the Pantheon is a temple and the Jefferson Memorial is a memorial.
However, just like how the dome represented the unity and symmetry of the Roman Empire, it also
symbolizes the democracy that has grown in America through unity.
There are many various features of Roman architecture that are evident in the Virginia State Capitol
Building and the Jefferson Memorial. Thomas Jefferson was influenced by both the Pantheon and
Maison Carree. Features like the symmetrical proportions of the buildings like the dome showed
continuity, this reflected on the glory of your society and the achievements they have accomplished, as
the imperial Rome was very successful. Most of the Roman structures also symbolized power as the
Roman valued this very much. America also values power so they may have been influenced by the

The Effects Of Alcohol And Teen Drinking
According to Dryden Edwards (2), teenage drinking is widespread, and teenagers believe that it is
acceptable. But, teenagers bodies are still developing. They fail to realize that consuming alcohol
places them in danger for numerous issues. Consuming alcohol is more widespread among teenagers
than most realize. Alcohol and Teen Drinking (1) reports that three fourths of seniors, a little over two
thirds of Sophomores, and two out of five 8th graders have experimented with alcohol. With rising
statistical information available on teenage drinking escalating, the signs and symptoms, causes,
treatment, and prevention becomes important factors in protecting our youth.
Armstrong McCarroll ( 8) explain that there is a definite connection between low academic success
and abuse of alcohol. Senior drop outs tended to be involved in consuming alcohol. Communities need
to create new strategies to assure that their teenage children are attending school and an alcohol
prevention program is implemented.
Simmers, Simmers Nartker, Simmers Kobelak (125) stated that alcohol is considered to be a
depressant. It is made up of ethyl alcohol or ethanol. Ethanol is the element in alcohol that makes you
intoxicated in products like liquor, beer, and wine. It is made by fermenting sugars, yeast, and
starches. Teenagers fail to realize that when they consume alcohol, they are causing the lining of their
stomach to tear. Alcohol consumption also gets in their bloodstream, and

3D Art Case Study
1. The 2D manuscript painting on vellum of The Limbourg Brothers from the February calendar was a
beautiful lively artwork. The painting illustrates the frigid winter air by using the white colors of the
snow to cover the landscape. Proportion is used to portray the far distance at which the center village
lies. The individuals in the painting are also larger in size than the animals to give a more realistic
representation. The artist uses lines to create the edges of the farm building built of wood. The top of
the calendar uses a half circle shape in which to illustrate the dates. Emphasis is given to the top of the
calendar that displays the dates using a dark blue and gold color to depict the night sky with

Emphasis is placed on the center of the sculpture where Saint Mark is situated inside the empty space
off the sculpture. The 2D I found least aesthetically pleasing was the Flemish oil painting of Jan Eyck,
Portrait of Giovanni Arnolfini and Giovanna Genami. Although painted with an astonishing level of
realism, his use of proportion when painting the hands is disproportionally small and seem flattened.
This illustrates how marriage back then did not require the presence of a priest or minister. The 3D
German gothic Pieta made from polychromed wood was a disturbing sculpture. The heads of the
Virgin Mary and Jesus are larger than their bodies. Anatomical details are exaggerated to emphasize
the suffering Jesus endured. Repetition within the sculpture takes form in the flowers of the pedestal in

Jesus. Overall this sculpture lacks color and looks like it has a rough texture. These artworks all

Easily Obtainable Information
In the age of cutting edge technology such as the world in which we live, easily obtainable
information has turned out to be a mainstay in society. The days of instant gratification are upon us
and waiting for any length of time since the advent of the Internet has become unacceptable in the
technological arena. Because information is so easily available, this gives pause to security and
privacy of personal identifiable information. With headlines screaming Identity Theft the
disadvantages are clear. No longer can users post whatever they are thinking, doing, wearing, etc.
without the profound knowledge that each post is forever solidified forever on the World Wide Web
for anyone with an Internet connection to access. Those with less technological knowledge have yet to
grasp this concept and this unfortunately has caused harm to their personal lives and professional
careers, in some cases.
Advantages of Easily Obtainable Information
One point of preference of adequately realistic data is practicality. It is advantageous for individuals to
be in one place and catch the most blazing news, listen to the crisp top melodies on the announcement

discussions through talk with various companions in a flash. It is simpler than perusing an entire

Similarities Between Abraham Lincoln And Abraham Lincoln
During the Civil War era, Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas were two figures that changed
America forever. They became two of the most influential people of their time. Through their
powerful and motivating speeches, they were able to change the minds of Americans and help to
improve society and the welfare of the people. Douglas fought for black civil rights through
compelling speeches, while Lincoln spoke more calmly and peacefully for unity with the Confederate
states. Both men had very different goals but had the same motivation to achieve a better America for
all. Lincoln was born on a farm to a very poor family and had very little schooling. However, he rose
from very humble beginnings to become the 16th president of the United States shortly before the
beginning of the Civil War. His fame comes mostly from leading the country through the Civil War
and changing the thinking of the American people at that time. He is a self taught lawyer, who was
also a shrewd military strategist and savvy leader. Lincoln is known and recognized for the
Emancipation Proclamation. It helped pave the way for the abolition of slavery. Lincoln was a noble
man. He was known as honest Abe when he practiced law. When he spoke he stood still and kept his
hands behind his back. He used his words very cautiously but spoke with conviction and motivation.

Peace in Yugoslavia From 1919 Until 1980
Peace in Yugoslavia meant unity. The country was a drawing together of different groups, which held
together from 1919 to the 1980. Before the First World War the Austria ruled the individual countries
of Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia as well as other countries such as Hungary as part of the Hapsburg
Empire. The other big empire was the Turkish Ottoman Empire. All the individual areas had different
ethnic groups and religions. The Croats were Roman Catholic, people living in Bosnia were mainly

➢ The 802.11b and 802.11g flavours of Wi Fi use the 2.4 GHz spectrum, which is crowded with other
devices such as Bluetooth, microwave ovens, cordless phones, or video sender devices, among many
others. This may cause degradation in performance. Other devices which use microwave frequencies
such as certain types of cell phones can also cause degradation in performance.
➢ Power consumption is fairly high compared to other standards, making battery life and heat a
concern.
➢ Not always configured properly by user. Commonly uses WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
protocol for protection, though has been shown to be easily breakable. Newer wireless solutions are
slowly providing support for the superior WPA (Wi Fi Protected Access) protocol, though many
systems still employ WEP.

Food Waste Food

Do Americans Waste Food? Americans throw away billions of pounds of food, worth billions of
dollars and enough to feed millions of people each year. Wasted food is the single largest component
of American landfills. Every year, around 40 percent of all food goes unconsumed in the United
States. This amounts to Americans squandering as much as $218 billion annually growing, processing
and transporting food that never gets eaten. That is a fairly large waste of resources considering all
that freshwater and land, all that fertilizer and energy used was for nothing. Washington Post . Even
Europe does a better job of curtailing food waste and food waste in Europe alone could feed 200
million hungry people! Food waste is often described as a farm to fork problem. Produce is lost in
fields, warehouses, packaging, distribution, supermarkets, restaurants and fridges. Why? We purchase
too many food products, our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, and we buy what is not expected. One
of the many reasons Americans have a big amount of food waste every year comes right from the
source: farming. Farming is a major contributor to food waste in the United States for different
reasons. According to the Washington Post, Roughly 7 percent of the produce that s grown in the
United States simply gets stranded on fields each year. When it comes to farming, there are many
ways produce may get wasted. To begin, some

West Memphis Three Men Research Paper
Murder begins where self defense ends. This quote from Georg Buchner can be used to describe the
tragic deaths of three little boys who were rendered defense less against their attackers. On May 5,
1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas, three young second grade boys, by the names of Christopher Byers,
Steven Branch, and Michael Moore, were brutally murdered after being beaten and hogtied by their
own shoelaces. A year later, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley were convicted and
sent to prison for this heinous crime. Even though the three men were convicted for the crime, there is
still great controversy as to who actually killed the three boys. Throughout all this controversy,
evidence, testimony, confessions, and more point towards the three men known as the West Memphis

the United States. As of 2013, 13% of the United States population was compromised of immigrants
and by 2050, the immigrant population is expected to grow to 19% (Bersani, 2014). The influx of
immigrants has been one of the most controversial topics throughout the nation and there is strong
public and political belief that immigrants are inherently crime prone and are dangerous to public
safety. However, research has consistently shown that foreign born individuals are less involved in
crime than native born Americans are (Bersani, 2014; Bui Thongniramol, 2005; Harker, 2001; Warner,

Assimilation, particularly segmented assimilation, has been thought to have a negative and also
differential influence on delinquency because it challenges the parent child relationship or creates
enormous stress on youths. Second generation immigrations tend to struggle with balancing the values
that their foreign born parents emphasize and with the values of mainstream America, while first
generation immigrants tend to maintain their cultural values when they move to the United States.
When youths cannot successfully balance the conflicting worlds, they may be prone towards
delinquency (Bersani, 2014; Bui Thongniramol, 2005; Harker, 2001). Acculturation, which is a
component of assimilation, also influences an immigrant youth s adjustment into American culture.
Research assessing acculturation suggests that immigrants are not crime prone because of the culture
they retain from their home country but rather it is the American society that is causing immigrant
youths, particularly in the second and third generations, to become like their native born peers in
regards to their involvement in delinquency and crime (Warner et al., 2010; Harker,

Why Do We Need Censorship In Schools
There is a book out there that talks about a topic that you do not agree with. While you may find the
book offensive, others may find it inspiring or a reflection of their life. These varying points of view
are what often lead to people calling for a ban of a certain book in a school or public library. This
brings to light a topic that impacts all of us in one way or another, censorship in the form of book
bans. This leads to a topic that can be the center of debate for many, whether or not we should allow
the censorship of books, or other forms of media, in our libraries. And by censoring books, we are
referring to taking them off of the shelves. Of course, many people have strong opinions on this.
Coincidentally, I also have an opinion. My opinion is that we should not censor books, while making
you understand why the idea of censorship in our school and public libraries goes against the
fundamental values and freedoms that we hold dearly as citizens of the United States. ... Show more

For example, some people can find certain works offensive, usually due to reasons such as language,
violence, sexual content, or the lifestyles portrayed in the pages. However, I would like to point out
that if someone does not agree with something, or if they find it offensive, they can exercise their
freedom of choice and choose not to read the book. It should not be up to a portion of the public to
decide what is acceptable for others. If we start denying this freedom of choice as it related to books
that are available in our libraries, what will the next step in denying our freedom of choice? If one
stops to think of why we love to live in the United States, freedom has to be at the top of this

The Pros And Cons Of Tanning
Tanning has become increasingly popular over years. The question is it beneficial or a bad business
deal to start. The truth is tanning is convenient method utilized by many individuals to gain skin tone
and color, builds self esteem and promote relaxation. It can be beneficial in many aspects of our lives
as well as an alternative to more harmful exposure but there are always risks at everything you do.
Dermatologists today are against it for the simple fact that they believe it causes skin cancer.
According to NCI (National Cancer Institute) exposure to UV radiation whether from the sun or from
artificial sources such as sunlamps utilized in tanning beds increases of developing skin cancer. IRAC

Being capable of doing this would be beneficial to some people because it doesn t take as long and
sitting out in the sun. There is a controlled dosage of the ultraviolet rays to reassure the consumer does
not receive a large amount of UV ray, these dosages should be spread out over several sessions. A
great aspect of tanning is clients get privacy in their own booth. Weight, being too white, tan lines and
uncomfortable bathing suits are not an issue with the tanning beds. Another advantage to tanning is it
is all year round. It doesn t matter if it is snowing or raining outside you can still get the benefit of a
captivating skin color.
Indoor tanning beds can have a negative impact on your skin. It can cause premature wrinkles, rashes,
and can cause cancer. Tanning is like a slow cooker that can slowly affect your skin and your aging
process. When tanning it is suggested to ask the salon staff the recommended exposure limits for your
skin type. Always precautious when you decide to tan for example if you do not wear goggles then it
can damage your ocular perceivers such as losing your vision. Wearing indoor sunscreen would be a
good precaution for your skin and you should consider your medical history for going tanning.
Secondly, knowing the type of bulbs when tanning is very important. The tanning lamps release
ultraviolet rays your body can tan. They contain: inert gasses, a little mercury, and phosphorus
coating.

Mary Olive Spring Analysis Essay
Spring reflects a deep communion with the natural world, offering a fresh viewpoint of the
commonplace or ordinary things in our world by subverting our expected and accepted views of that
object which in turn presents a view that operates from new assumptions. Oliver depicts the natural
world as a celebration of wonder and awe, the almost insignificant wonders capturing the true beauty
nature beholds.
Spring is a poem that visibly illustrates this, representing the natural world to be full of wonder
through imagery and metaphors without actually stating what the wonders are. The poem Spring
observes a bear that has risen from hibernation due to the awakening of another season, spring. It s

It encourages human beings to see themselves as part of the ecological system and to be one with
nature. It questions the hierarchies of empires and of the human and natural world itself, suggesting
that we must learn to love and transcend with the natural world, instead of seeking domination over it.
Like Spring, Wild Geese is written in casual language, but still manages to be stimulating and
powerful. It s rational simplicity truly captures the might of the words that sweep through our hearts to
provoke a feeling of unity and tranquillity with nature. This is exactly what Oliver is attempting to
portray through her poems, Wild Geese especially, by reminding us that we as a human race are so
preoccupied with the melodramatics of life that we fail to see the beauty and wonders surrounding us,
and that we should sit back and follow the natural and simple path the non human world follows.
The title itself almost says the poem, providing implicit imagery and evoking a sense of freedom and
wilderness. The geese are free and natural, unlike humans who are constrained by the values and
attitudes inhibited on us by society in which we conform to and accept, hindering our ability to be
truly free and released like the natural world is.

The PFC, Executive Function, and Dysfunction Essay
The PFC, Executive Function, and Dysfunction
Goldberg (2009) purports, that the prefrontal cortex (PFC) interconnects with every area associated
with specialized functions in the brain and is the only structure in the brain, which is so connected. He
proposes that this unique anatomical presentation of the PFC provides it with the opportunity and
ability to gather information stored within those associated areas and to apply appropriate responses to
environmental stimulus. These processes of assimilating and applying refer to executive function (EF)
and compare to the role of a conductor or CEO of a large company. When PFC malfunctions, due to

The most prevalent of all the fissures is the longitudinal fissure, which separates the two hemispheres.
The hemispheres further divides into the central fissure and lateral fissure, which create the landmarks
known as the four lobes and include the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe and the occipital
lobe. The prefrontal cortex or PFC is located in the frontal lobe, which is located at the foremost
anterior region of the cerebral hemisphere. Goldberg (2009) describes how the PFC contains
interconnections throughout the brain. He mentions how the PFC connects to the posterior association
cortex, which is associated with perceptual integration, and associates with the premotor cortex, the
cerebellum, and basal ganglia, all which help, regulate movement and motor control. The PFC
additionally connects to those structures, which are critical for memory and include the thalamus, and
hippocampus. Furthermore, the PFC connects to the hypothalamus, which regulates homeostasis, with
the amygdala, which regulates human relations. Finally, the PFC is reciprocates with brain stem nuclei
responsible for arousal and activation. The interconnections of the PFC uniquely positioned for
directing and assimilating the work of all the brain structures but are fragile and leave the PFC
susceptible to injury and disease.

The Effect Of Phonetic And Semantic Encoding On Correct...
Abstract
The current lab experiment was a partial replication of Craik and Tulving s 1975 study. The aim was
to investigate the effect of phonetic and semantic encoding on correct recognition of words. The
research hypothesis was semantically encoded words have a higher rate of correct recognition then
words that have been phonetically encoded. This was a one tailed hypothesis, as previous research
supported it. The null hypothesis was that the results will show no difference between words that are
successfully recognised from the two levels of encoding, and any difference will be due to chance.
The independent variable was the encoding level Phonetic or Semantic and the dependent variable
was the number of correctly recognized words on a standardized recognition sheet. An independent
measures design was used, with opportunity sampling to select 20 participants 10 male, 10 female
who were split into phonetic and semantic groups of 10 each. The findings were that phonetic
encoding had a mean of 17.2, and semantic encoding had a mean of 27.8. The Mann Whitney U test
showed that the results had a significance level of 0.01. Therefore, this experiment s data can be
considered 99% significant; the research hypothesis was supported and the null hypothesis was
rejected.

Commentary On Chasing Lincoln s Killer By James Swanson
Chasing Lincoln s Killer by James Swanson is a third person book about Lincoln s assassination and
the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth. In the beginning, the civil war just ended. A lot of southern s
were angry at Lincoln such as John Wilkes Booth. Booth had found conspirators to help assassinate
Abraham Lincoln and his cabinet members. Booth had a plan to kidnap Lincoln before but it failed, so
that made him furious. This plan had to be the ultimate plan. He thought about everything. The timing
had to be perfect for this one. The conflict is man vs person because it is about Booth trying to get
away from the police. Then, Lincoln, Mary Todd, Henry Rathbone and his fiancee, Clara Harris were
sitting in the the presidential box at Ford s Theatre ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meaningful Quotation Paragraph:
The real hero is Abraham Lincoln and the principles for which he lived and died: freedom and equal
rights for all Americans. (Swanson 193) is an important quote in the book. This quote is spot on. It is
so true that Lincoln did the best he could and died because of what he did. He was the one to stop the
fighting so everyone could be equal. This quote is in the epilogue, so this at the end of the story.
Everything has happened. John Wilkes Booth has been found and all the conspirators.
4. Author s purpose:
The author s purpose is to inform the audience what actually on April 15, 1865. One example is it
informs why Abraham Lincoln couldn t die at Ford s Theatre. It is because Lincoln deserves a proper
bed to die in. The second information that the author told me was that Lincoln was the happiest he has
ever been in the office that day. 5. What I Learned:
I have learned all about Lincoln s assassination. I learned that John Wilkes Booth tried to kill Lincoln
before. I also learned about Lincoln s cabinet member and Booth s conspirators and what they did.
One main thing I learn from this book is having compassion. When Lincoln was shot, Laura Keene an
actress went up to the box held lincoln s head in her lap. To make him as comfortable as he could be.
This shows that the world had compassion in those

The Pros And Cons Of Hurricane Glenn
The year is 2050, and you re the President of the United States. Hurricane Glenn has just ravaged most

all. The Constitution neither defines charity nor stipulates the amount, you are at liberty to give to any

Search And Seizure In Schools
As an educator, I, along with all educators, must be knowledgeable about the laws and school policies
in regards to search and seizures of students. Although I am aware of the state and school policies, the
school district I work for only wants the administration to deal with searches and seizures of students.
We must notify the administration immediately if we have reasonable suspicion of students violating
school rules or state laws. From there, the administration will conduct the search or other precautions
when or if they see fit. When searching book bags, purses, and lunch bags, the Mountain View School
District s handbook states, All book bags, purses, lunch bags, and back packs are subject to searches.

The Effects of Technology on the Accounting Profession
The Effects of Technology on the Accounting Profession
In today s business society, the accounting technology whether it be software or hardware is a vital
part of just about every major business. Many people overlook the importance of the role of
accounting technology in business and in the accounting profession. The fact is technology such as
accounting information systems can make or break a business.
Utilization of Information Technology in the Retail Businesses (Wal Mart)
To succeed in the rapidly evolving business environment we face today, businesses rely heavily on
accounting technology to track information about their customers and inventory (Lazerus, 2010). Wal

With the development accounting information systems managers have inherited the task of learning
and training their employees what they learn. For example, in a retail store accounting systems are
used to order, locate and organize inventory so supervisors are tasked with learning and training
employees to perform these tasks. Because employees and managers can now perform such tasks
easily it has limited the jobs that accounting professionals had cornered as theirs in the past. Because
of accounting systems managers have also inherited the task of learning how to perform minor
troubleshooting of their systems and to train others to perform the task. Accounting systems demand
more with regard to computer literacy but provides significant advantages such as helping
organizations to handle more tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Accounting software is an
important part of information technology, which relates to computer applications that enable a
company to generate, store, program, and retrieve data as and when needed (Rampur, 2011). An
example is an employee using an accounting information system to analyze inventory with a couple of
clicks of the computer. Accounting technology definitely has made the accounting field more
competitive. This is because with the use of such technology individuals outside of the profession can

  • 2. Delisting the Grey Wolf Essay Delisting the Grey Wolf The United States Fish and Wildlife Service are considering removing the gray wolf from the endangered species list once Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming have enough wolves to be deemed sufficient to continue to expand the wolf population, requiring only that each of these three states have a management plan in effect to prevent the gray wolf from becoming endangered again. With the current attitude of the governments in these states, the wolf should not lose their federal support under the Endangered Species Act as it would merely serve to cause the wolves to become endangered once again, or at best, held to the absolute minimum population that the states can pass off as viable, self sustaining populations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The state legislature has favored the ranching industry above ecology and continues to do so. Public polls conducted by Boise State indicate that the overwhelming majority of Idahoans (nearly 70 percent) support wolf restoration (Laverty, par. 4) and the legislature is seeking to remedy this by re educating the public with a balanced view of the impact of wolves on big game species, those sectors of the economy dependent upon sport hunting, livestock, domestic animals, and humans (State, 3). Furthermore, the cost of wolf reintroduction will be presented as a part of any public education program including direct and indirect costs (State, 3). This so called balanced view was presented in a program in which the most misrepresented issues concerned the economic impact of wolves. Ranchers were allowed to claim unsubstantiated losses, with no attempt to validate the accuracy of these claims (Laverty, par. 2). In granting the balanced view sought by the legislature, the program portrayed the salt of the earth rancher as a poor victim of the federal government s whim to restore the killers (Laverty, par. 2). The lies by omission also showed up in this balanced view program, it failed to expose the enormous subsidies that benefit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Characteristics Of Edgar Allan Poe Edgar Allan Poe is a well known American poet and writer. He was born on January 19, 1809, in Boston, Massachusetts but was raised as a foster child in Richmond, Virginia by John and Frances Allan. His first collection of poems were published in 1827, the same year he moved to Boston and enlisted in the United States Army. He was influenced by the Romantic literary era at the time but much of his work is considered as the gothic genre, combining fiction, horror and romance. Many credit him as the architect of the modern short story and with his focus on the dark side of human nature, he is also known as the inventor of both the detective story and the horror genre. The narrator describes near death experiences due to hunger and dehydration, the power of mother nature and how the sea destroyed their ship. Survival instincts forced the crew to resort to cannibalism for their survival before they finally landed on a tropical island where they were met by natives who were intimidated by the white skinned strangers. The meeting of the civilized sailors and the uncivilized natives described very different people who did not trust each other. When the natives killed most of the sailors, Poe illustrates the similarity and primitive side of all people as they kill for their own protection and survival. Pym managed to escape the island together with Peters and the novel ends as they near the South Pole, leaving the conclusion to the imagination of the reader. Edgar Allan Poe portrayed various themes throughout the novel. However, the main theme that stood out was that of survival. Arthur Gordon Pym describes in his writings how he managed to stay alive on board the Grampus after the mutiny that occurred and after the massive storm that nearly destroyed the ship, tearing the sails, breaking the mast, and flooding the hold. All four men managed to survive by lashing themselves to the hull. However, they get injured and bereft of food and water, going days and nights suffering from thirst and starvation wavering between hope and despair. They endure horrendous sights, such as a Dutch ship manned only by dead, rotting corpses, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Western European Religion Research Paper For my essay, I chose to answer the question: Would you say the Western European Christians in the early 16th century saw religion as a significant part of their lives? Why or why not? This almost seems like a trick question to me as I feel, yes religion played a significant role in their lives, but no I don t think they respected it as God intended. If you use money and political status as a loophole in the system, is Christianity that important to you? Through my readings and observations, I ve gathered that the central goal of many Christians is to be free and clean of sins and accepted by God. Being taken in by God is ALL that matters and they will absolutely do whatever is necessary to be certain this happens. Yes, I know ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1517, a Dominican man named Tetzel was selling indulgences. He had people convinced that if they paid for this piece of paper called an indulgence they would be pardoned of their wrong doings. To me this act of fraud defines the word corruption in the Christian church community. After the devastating damage the Black Death caused, Tetzel and his indulgences came in at a prime time when people were most vulnerable. People witnessing their friends and family dying left and right, everyone was in a panic because they needed to cleanse their soul as soon as possible just in case the grim reaper took them away next. Although it seems Tetzel took advantage of the faith of the Christian people, I don t think that s the case. The people buying these indulgences took the easy was out in my opinion. As far as I know, nowhere in the bible does it state your sins will be forgiven by paying someone money. A truly committed Christian would know that and use the proper steps given to ask for God s forgiveness. This lack

  • 6. Essay about Deep Sea Fish Adaptions The discoverer of the titanic, Dr Robert Ballard famously referred to the deep sea as far more alien than going to mars or the moon. The deep sea is one of the largest virtually unexplored ecosystems on the planet; it is found at a depth of 1000 fathoms [1] and is subject to adverse changes in temperature, pressure and light penetration amongst other factors. Therefore as expected fish decrease in abundance, and species diversity. This trend is prominent as in order to survive the harsh conditions of the deep sea, fish need a number of specific adaptations. Allowing them to ultimately survive, feed, and reproduce. The deep sea is one of the most hostile environments in the world, which a living organism is subjected to. As you progress ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The viper fish (shown in figure 1) possesses large eyes to catch the little light present. This helps them to locate prey as well as avoid predators. [4] Light cannot penetrate any deeper than the epipelagic layer, therefore the only light present is that produced from the inhabitants themselves. A percentage of deep sea fish are able to create light through the chemical reaction; bioluminescence. Most of the light created by marine organisms is blue green in colour. As blue light travels best in water and most marine organisms are sensitive to blue light. [6] Anglerfish produces the chemical luciferin which reacts with oxygen to create light. The light helps species communicate, attract a mate or prey, or deter predators. As the bioluminescent lure is believe to mimic the movements of zooplankton. [6] Being the lower layer of the ocean, it is no wonder the pressure is immense for the fish of the deep. The pressure exist between 200 600 atm , and in order to survive this immense pressure deep sea creature have special adapted bodies which have no excess cavities, e.g. Swim bladders that would collapse under intense pressure, instead they have neutral buoyancy where there bladders are filled with lipids. Located near remote Ballindalloch, the Glenlivet Distillery was founded in 1824 by George Smith, however illegal production had taken place on the site for decades previous. He broke with that illegal tradition and obtained a distiller s licence but this attracted unwanted attention from the illegal smugglers and many threats were made against the distillery, Smith himself and his family. His perseverance paid off though, and with Smith acting as the pioneer many more legal distilleries followed and the illegal smuggling all but died out. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Christian Worldview Research Paper Western Civ Essay Hayden McLendon A worldview is one s presuppositions and values that a person tries to use to understand the world around them. A presupposition affects how we believe and reflect on how we view Politics, Science, and our ethics. A Christian world view helps us to interpret God, Jesus, ideas, beliefs, convictions, and our habits of the world. The cool thing is that everyone has a worldview whether they think it or not there isn t such a think as worldview neutral because believing in not worldview is a worldview. God says in Matthew 12:30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters and in Luke 9:50 Do not stop him, for whoever is not against you is for you so being for God is follow his holy world the bible. So, when we read the bible it says, That everything you do in the name of Lord Jesus, Giving thanks to God The Father through him . A Christian worldview affects our economics, history, and actions. Along with economic issues, the rapid economic growth has caused multiple other issues. Although all of these issues at hand are important, the issue that I will be focusing on is the massive environmental degradation and how it has been affected by the increases in Buddhist religious freedom and ecotourism. In 1949, China s natural forests were nationalized and private forests were collectivized, this gave state enterprises control over the forests. The main problem that came out of this was that these enterprises promoted leadership with higher profits from timber production. This caused managers of companies to try to increase their profits from timber production but wouldn t use any of those profits for replanting timber resources because they had no incentive to. This led to China s annual forest volume harvested to be greater than the growth in forest volume, which directly connects to deforestation. China had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Environmental Issues Challenging The Clean Water Act Of... Coastal Area I live less than a mile from the San Francisco Bay and Estuary (SFBay). I wrote about this bay s environmental issues in the Unit #1 Learning Journal assignment and have decided to use this opportunity to elaborate on two specific environmental issues challenging the SFBay. To summarize this ecosystem: It s the largest bay and estuary on the Pacific coast and has been damaged by industrial activity, starting in 1850 with the Gold Rush and quickly followed by the logging, railroad and salt pond industries. Its biggest threats are pollution, water diversion and filling in. Conservation efforts began in 1965 and today the SFBay is collectively overseen by government and private organizations. Two environmental problems the SFBay faces are mercury contamination and overfishing. The Clean Water Act lists the SFBay as impaired for mercury. Estimates suggest the bay s sediment is contaminated with about two hundred metric tons of mercury, much going back to original Gold Rush. This pollutant has affected SFBay biota resulting in a state issued fish advisory waning not to eat some common fish such as Striped bass and limited intake of other species (OEHHA, 2011; Ely Viani, 2010). At the same time humanity was busy cutting down thousand year old redwood trees and hydraulically destroying the Sierra Mountains, they were also busy pillaging the SFBay for fish, shellfish and perhaps the unlucky whale pod that happened by. The outside of the building doesn t look very appealing and the location is surrounded by old buildings and old neighborhood houses. As I arrived I was surprised to see a full parking lot. When I entered the restaurant I encounter a heavy crowd in the bar section. I was shocked to see only white people from old to middle age. As I was walking down the hall to the dining area, I could see many pictures of family generations. My classmates were there already, so we sat down and ordered our meals. The place was packed! It seems like this is a very traditional family restaurant. All the tables were occupied with grandparents, parents, and children. I could guess, there were about 150 people, and only Eva, Angie, Mirna, the waiter and I were Mexicans! I m assuming that many of the clientele has been going to this restaurant as a family tradition. It was a neat experience. The food was good. • 12. Antibiotic Resistance By Bacteria, Viruses, Antibiotics,... Background/Statement of Problem(s):One of the most critical challenges confronting the application of chemotherapeutic agents in general, and antibiotics in particular, is the development of resistance by target microbes such as bacteria, viruses etc. In most instances, antibiotic resistance, which is a natural phenomenon, occurs when bacteria undergo or acquire mutation to alter the target sites of drugs. As target microbes becomes less responsive to the inhibitory and killing effects of antibiotics, the unfettered multiplication that results leads to therapeutic failure with consequent morbidity and or mortality. This has been a serious and growing public health issue to which there has not been an effective solution. The traditional answer to this problem has been to introduce new antibiotics that kill the resistant mutants. Unfortunately, the pharmaceutical industry is now producing too few antibiotics, particularly against Gram negative organisms, to replace antibiotics that are no longer effective for many types of infection. This paper reviews possible new ways to discover novel antibiotics. Supporting Data:Over the past century of antibiotic discovery and development, few parallel and independent lines of discovery have been fruitful. The development of strategies to prevent the evolution of resistance strains of microbes has been a top priority. In clinical practice, several measures that have been tested to reduce the incidence of resistance development, including ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Where is my health level at? How can I find out my health level? and so on. If you believe that you are overweight the easiest way to find out is by using the BMI scale. BMI, Body Mass Index, is a form of measuring ones body composition. Using your weight and height (in inches) you can measure your BMI and have an idea of whether or not you are overweight. If the results are greater than 25 then you are considered overweight under the BMI scale (4). Most people use the BMI scale to find out if they need to lose weight or not. The BMI scale is not meant to be used in that way. It is only meant to be an indirect measurement of body composition (4). Generally speaking, you are overweight if your results come out to be over 25 as previously stated. Don t immediately fall to the conclusion if your BMI is over 25 because the scale does not provide an accurate number since it does not take into account many other factors. If you want a more accurate and official statement of your body weight and health then there is the BIA method. Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), is a direct method of measuring body composition. BIA uses the body s resistance and capacitive reactance to measure the amount of water, nutrients and minerals and body fat (5). Using this method has a small fee as it can t normally be done at home unless you have all of the tools. Typically, a BIA test will cost you around 20 30 dollars. • 14. What Are The Characteristics Of The Second Beast The second beast And behold, another beast, a second one, resembling a bear. And it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth; and thus they said to it, Arise, devour much meat! Characteristics of the beast. Regarding the second beast, we should consider the following: The beast resembled a bear that is it looked like a bear and it had the character of a bear. It was raised up on one side. Three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth. It was commanded to arise and devour much meat. A second one, resembling a bear That is, after the lion had disappeared. The bear was a well known animal found in Media, a mountainous, cold and rough country, covered with woods. Its character is very much different from the lion or any other animal for that matter. There must have been a very good reason why the bear was chosen to represent the second kingdom the one that would succeed the lion kingdom. Bochart[4] says the bear is distinguished mainly for two things, that is its cunningness and its ferocity. Aristotle[5] said that the bear is a greedy, silly and foolhardy animal. In Hosea 13:8 God said to Israel: I will encounter them like a bear robbed of her cubs, and I will tear open their chests. Writers on the natures of beasts say that none is more savage than a she bear, when bereaved of her whelps [Jerome].[6] Another example of the bear s character is found in 2 Sa. 17:8 You know that your father and his men are mighty men, and that they are enraged, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. According to the great King Solomon, there is only one thing worse than a bear Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs rather than a fool in his folly (Pro. 17:12). The characteristics of the second kingdom, therefore, would be things such as ferocity, roughness, fierceness in war, especially when provoked. One would expect to find that its actions would be less noble than that of the first kingdom. It would be, in other words, more severe in its treatment of those that would stand up against it. • 17. Employee Engagement Is Made Up Of Two Words, Employee And... Employee Engagement Employee Engagement is made up of two words, Employee and engagement. In simple words, it can be defined as an engagement or commitment of an employee towards its organization. It is not entirely clear when the term engagement was first used in relation to work, but generally the Gallup Organization is credited for coining the term somewhere in the 1990s( Schaufeli, 2013 p.2). An engaged employee can be easily distinguished from disengaged one by simply asking a question. Ask an employee, what their company does? An engaged employee will say we provide software services while a disengaged employee will say, they/Company provides software services. It is evident from here that an engaged employee is involved completely to achieve the goals of company, hence will be more efficient and considers himself as a part of the success of company. Various researches have also shown that engaged employees are much more efficient than disengaged ones, which results in positives for an organisation. An engaged employee feels involved in and excited about his work. Engaged employees produce at high levels individually, and contribute to improved business results. In fact, Gallup research shows employee engagement can be linked to increased productivity and profitability, along with benefits such as decreased turnover and absenteeism (Connolly, et al., 2013, p 48 52).An organisation with a higher number of engaged employees is likely to be more effective, efficient ... Justice and Moderation of the Soul in The Republic, by Plato In his philosophical text, The Republic, Plato argues that justice can only be realized by the moderation of the soul, which he claims reflects as the moderation of the city. He engages in a debate, via the persona of Socrates, with Ademantus and Gaucon on the benefit, or lack thereof, for the man who leads a just life. I shall argue that this analogy reflecting the governing of forces in the soul and in city serves as a sufficient device in proving that justice is beneficial to those who believe in, and practice it. I shall further argue that Plato establishes that the metaphorical bridge between the city and soul analogy and reality is the leader, and that in the city governed by justice the philosopher is king. These conflicting desires cause unhappiness. Glaucon sees the issue from the perspective of personal gain or loss, while Plato sees it from outside that realm in the sphere of absolute truths. Clearly, an absolute truth is more viable and defensible than a personal interest. Justice is a higher order than personal advantage and as is associated with happiness whether one receives a reward for justice or not. The argument Glaucon raises against the absolutism of justice is exemplified in his story of the man who discovers a gold ring that allows him to become invisible. Glaucon proposes these two representative men as extreme examples of the two sides of the argument and suggests that their positions be examined after their death to see which was happier, based on the premise that the unjust man meted out injustice at will without ever suffering it himself, while the just man acted only justly but was treated unjustly himself. Glaucon takes this example to the extreme, with the just man being: whipped...racked...bound; he ll have both his eyes burned out; and at the end, when he has undergone every sort of evil, he ll be crucified and know that one shouldn t wish to be, but to seem to be, just (39). Triangular Number Of Triangular Numbers Triangular Numbers Eli Nazarian Ms. Ramson H Algebra 2A October 21, 2014 A triangular number is a number that counts the amount of objects that form when they are put together to form an equilateral triangle (a triangle with all equal sides). The most common object used to form a triangle are dots. When the dots create an equilateral triangle, the number of dots seen in the triangle represent the triangular number. Overall, the sequence is generated from a pattern of dots which form a triangle. The first row contains a single dot and each subsequent row contains more dots than the previous one. The sequence of triangular numbers are: 1, 3, 6,10, 15, 21... and so on. When working with multiple triangles, each triangle is assigned a triangle number. For example, triangle one (T1) has a triangular number of one. Triangle three has a triangular number of six. The letter T, followed but a number represents a certain triangle. Americans throw away billions of pounds of food, worth billions of dollars and enough to feed millions of people each year. Wasted food is the single largest component of American landfills. Every year, around 40 percent of all food goes unconsumed in the United States. This amounts to Americans squandering as much as $218 billion annually growing, processing and transporting food that never gets eaten. That is a fairly large waste of resources considering all that freshwater and land, all that fertilizer and energy used was for nothing. Washington Post . Even Europe does a better job of curtailing food waste and food waste in Europe alone could feed 200 million hungry people! Food waste is often described as a farm to fork problem. Produce is lost in fields, warehouses, packaging, distribution, supermarkets, restaurants and fridges. Why? We purchase too many food products, our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, and we buy what is not expected. One of the many reasons Americans have a big amount of food waste every year comes right from the source: farming. Farming is a major contributor to food waste in the United States for different reasons. On May 5, 1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas, three young second grade boys, by the names of Christopher Byers, Steven Branch, and Michael Moore, were brutally murdered after being beaten and hogtied by their own shoelaces. A year later, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley were convicted and sent to prison for this heinous crime. Even though the three men were convicted for the crime, there is still great controversy as to who actually killed the three boys. Throughout all this controversy, evidence, testimony, confessions, and more point towards the three men known as the West Memphis Three , to be the real killers. In the case of the three murdered eight year olds, West Memphis police department s investigative work led to a numbered list of suspects. As of 2013, 13% of the United States population was compromised of immigrants and by 2050, the immigrant population is expected to grow to 19% (Bersani, 2014). The influx of immigrants has been one of the most controversial topics throughout the nation and there is strong public and political belief that immigrants are inherently crime prone and are dangerous to public safety. However, research has consistently shown that foreign born individuals are less involved in crime than native born Americans are (Bersani, 2014; Bui Thongniramol, 2005; Harker, 2001; Warner, Fishbein, Krebs, 2010; Dipietro McGloin, 2012). Assimilation, particularly segmented assimilation, has been thought to have a negative and also differential influence on delinquency because it challenges the parent child relationship or creates enormous stress on youths. Second generation immigrations tend to struggle with balancing the values that their foreign born parents emphasize and with the values of mainstream America, while first generation immigrants tend to maintain their cultural values when they move to the United States. When youths cannot successfully balance the conflicting worlds, they may be prone towards delinquency (Bersani, 2014; Bui Thongniramol, 2005; Harker, 2001). Acculturation, which is a component of assimilation, also influences an immigrant youth s adjustment into American culture. Research assessing acculturation suggests that immigrants are not crime prone because of the culture they retain from their home country but rather it is the American society that is causing immigrant youths, particularly in the second and third generations, to become like their native born peers in regards to their involvement in delinquency and crime (Warner et al., 2010; Harker, ... Spring is a poem that visibly illustrates this, representing the natural world to be full of wonder through imagery and metaphors without actually stating what the wonders are. It s rational simplicity truly captures the might of the words that sweep through our hearts to provoke a feeling of unity and tranquillity with nature. This is exactly what Oliver is attempting to portray through her poems, Wild Geese especially, by reminding us that we as a human race are so preoccupied with the melodramatics of life that we fail to see the beauty and wonders surrounding us, and that we should sit back and follow the natural and simple path the non human world follows. The title itself almost says the poem, providing implicit imagery and evoking a sense of freedom and wilderness. The aim was to investigate the effect of phonetic and semantic encoding on correct recognition of words. The research hypothesis was semantically encoded words have a higher rate of correct recognition then words that have been phonetically encoded. This was a one tailed hypothesis, as previous research supported it. The null hypothesis was that the results will show no difference between words that are successfully recognised from the two levels of encoding, and any difference will be due to chance. The independent variable was the encoding level Phonetic or Semantic and the dependent variable was the number of correctly recognized words on a standardized recognition sheet. An independent measures design was used, with opportunity sampling to select 20 participants 10 male, 10 female who were split into phonetic and semantic groups of 10 each. The findings were that phonetic encoding had a mean of 17.2, and semantic encoding had a mean of 27.8. The Mann Whitney U test showed that the results had a significance level of 0.01. Therefore, this experiment s data can be considered 99% significant; the research hypothesis was supported and the null hypothesis was rejected.
