Persuasive Essay On Green House Effect
We as a society have reached one of the most crucial time periods in the history of our world. Due to
the way we have used the resources on this earth we have created a situation in which our climate is
drastically changing. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil has caused gases like carbon
dioxide to become trapped in the atmosphere causing a natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse
effect has caused the earth s average temperature to rise and has resulted in arctic glaciers melting.
These glaciers had gases trapped inside them that are now being released into the atmosphere further
raising the earth s temperature. Due to the way we are polluting our air we have caused global
warming. This global warming has caused stronger natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires
putting our society in more danger than ever before. Joseph Fournier came up with the idea of the
greenhouse effect in 1824. In the late 1950 s Charles Keeling created a tool in Mauna Loa Hawaii to
measure the amount of carbon dioxide being trapped in the atmosphere due to the greenhouse effect.
This tool has discovered a steady increase in the carbon dioxide levels over the last fifty years in what
has become known as the Keeling Curve . Keeling discovered that about twenty five percent of the
carbon dioxide molecules in our atmosphere are man made. These carbon dioxide molecules being
trapped in the atmosphere are raising earth s temperature at a dangerous rate. Many in the science

Hester Prynne and Roger Chillingworth in Puritan Society...
Believed by many writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, society corrupts and conforms the
individual, and it is the individual who breaks from consistency and conformity that is most free.
Hester Prynne, a woman punished for adultery, is isolated by herself and her community, but breaks
free from strict Puritan society. Roger Chillingworth, the husband of Hester, isolates himself which
leads to the destruction of himself and the community. Hester Prynne and Roger Chillingworth
experience different types of isolation, and while Hester chooses to transcend Puritan laws and live a
purposeful life regardless of how it affects her, Chillingworth decides to become infatuated with the
sin of Arthur Dimmesdale and live in revenge outside of Puritan ... Show more content on

The puritan mindset affected how Hester and Chillingworth viewed there isolation. Hester Prynne s
isolation, though primarily inflicted by the community, was also inflicted by herself, and in her
isolation, Hester became an integral community member at the cost of her femininity and passion.
Hester is primarily isolated by her community as she is forced to wear the scarlet letter for the rest of
her life to separate her as an adulteress. This was common practice for colony members in Plymouth
in 1694 though typically a whipping or death was the punishment (Hawthorne 220). The isolation
caused by her community is not destructive to herself, and in a way, is beneficial for her soul. Using
her needlework as an outlet for her creativity, Hester provided clothes for the poor, embroidered
clothing, and earned back her reputation. Not only would the A come to mean Able, but it also gave
herself a sense of belonging. According to Jennifer McClinton Temple, such isolation leaves that
person nothing but he or she s mind and therefore inspiring creativity (McClinton Temple). Being left
to her own faculties, Hester was able to think freely and apart from typical Puritan ideas. According to
Hawthorne, for a Puritan, and a woman no less, to have broken free from Puritan conformity would
have held to be a deadlier crime than that stigmatized by the scarlet letter in the eyes of the Puritan
magistrates (Hawthorne

The Population Of Bluefin Tuna
The population of Bluefin Tuna has been dramatically declining over the past few decades with no
expectation of slowing down. Bluefin Tuna are a very important species of fish because they are one
of the top predators in the ocean and if they become extinct the balance of the ocean s ecosystem
would be off. The classification of Bluefin Tuna includes a few different types, all of which are
endangered and it is estimated that they will soon become extinct. The categorization of each type of
Bluefin Tuna species is based on geographical location although the exact number varies from 3 8.
Although there are still significant number of Bluefin tuna in the ocean, the demand for the fish has
increased dramatically with no sign of decreasing. This demand has caused new and harmful fishing
methods to be created. They have become incredibly popular in sushi as well as other food and for this
reason the population has declined; however, there are methods that could be used in order to prevent
the species from becoming extinct.
Analyzing the change in fishing practices and a change in the fish that are caught might explain this
change. Due to the fact that the spawning process causes fish to stay in shallow waters and closer to
land, they are more likely to be caught at this time. For this reason the age that they are at during the
spawning period would indicate what age they usually are when they are caught. The estimated age

The beginning settlements of the Massachusetts and Virginia colonies were both brought together by
the similar groups of people, however their different beginnings as a colony, views on religion, and

The colonies of Virginia and Massachusetts were both established during the same time, but the ways

Virginia began to create plantations for tobacco and Massachusetts was a seaport, both began to suffer
from the increase of immigrants. The immigrants created a lot of competition for work. Both societies
were engulfed with an increase of immigrants, creating a competition for jobs. Boston was in bad
shape and people looked to the community for help. Virginia made its money through tobacco, and
along with that came an increase in slavery. On the other hand Massachusetts did not have as great of
a demand for slaves. Though both of the settlements had different tactics, neither of them could avoid
the problems from increase of immigration and both relied on their separate means of making profit.
To conclude, it can be seen that both colonies, had similar goals as to what needed to be done to make
their colonies last, but the methods that were used were very different. From Virginia and
Massachusetts it can be determined that two colonies with the same goal can come to two separate

that is also a component of its failure to make peace? ME Public opinion polls among Palestinians

Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans Research Paper
Men who are affected by unusual spots, penis pain, thickening of the penis skin, and phimosis the
inability to retract the foreskin may be affected by a condition known as balanitis xerotica obliterans.
While this condition is not generally serious, it can get worse without treatment and may lead to more
serious complications. Not all doctors are familiar with this condition, so men who experience the
related symptoms should be familiar with the disorder so that they can help their doctors understand
what to look for.
Following is a brief overview of balanitis xerotica obliterans, as well as the available treatments and
some tips to proper penis care.
What is balanitis xerotica obliterans?
Commonly abbreviated as BXO, this condition is considered as the male manifestation of lichen
sclerosis, a benign condition that affects the skin. While the symptoms are not confined to the penis,
they can be most worrying in this area, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there appears to be a hereditary component, and men who suffer from BXO are also likely
to experience other autoimmune type conditions. While BXO may appear unattractive and cause
issues with sex, the condition is not contagious and cannot be passed to a partner, either through
sexual contact or otherwise.
Common Symptoms of BXO
The most common symptoms of BXO include white patches on the glans penis, as well as under the
foreskin; a thickened ring of tissue may also form around the tip of the glans, and penis pain may also
occur. Adhesions of the foreskin to the glans may also occur and lead to phimosis, a condition in
which it is difficult or impossible to retract the foreskin over the crown of the penis. Erectile issues
may also accompany these symptoms.
In more advanced stages, the white or grayish patches may reach the shaft, and even the scrotum.
Scrubbing or otherwise attempting to move the lesions is not effective and may cause further damage
to the skin.

If differences cannot be resolved an ET1 can be submitted to the tribunal with the relevant fee. The
claim is then logged (by the claimant) and a copy is sent to Acas and to the employer (respondent),
along with an ET3 form. The employer has 28 days to complete and return the response form to the

Using Homemade Solar Cookers And Solar Energy
Using Homemade Solar Cookers and Solar Energy to Pasteurize Non Potable Water by Killing
Harmful Bacteria, Parasites, and Diseases
Maia J. Graudick
Brown School
Abstract
In less developed countries, there is a lack of availability in potable water for safe consumption. Using
a device known as a solar cooker may allow for cheap and easy access to water without worry of
contracting diseases. Solar cookers utilize solar energy by focusing the sun s rays into water, heating
the water to a temperature hot enough to kill harmful pathogens. A homemade solar cooker was filled
100ml of non potable water and set out in the sun for 50 minutes. The experiment resulted in a success
with 95.9% of all organisms in the water being killed, effectively pasteurizing the water for safe
drinking. The experiment provided evidence to support that solar cookers are reliable option for
pasteurizing non potable water in less developed countries.
Using Homemade Solar Cookers and Solar Energy to Pasteurize Non Potable Water by Killing
Harmful Bacteria, Parasites, and Diseases Water is highly important in sustaining human life.
Untreated water however, can have very harmful effects on the body. Water that is not of drinking
standards, or non potable water, can contain harmful and possibly fatal pathogens. The consumption of
this water by humans is extremely dangerous. In less developed countries (LDCs) effective methods
of pasteurizing non potable water are not always readily

Is there a democratic deficit in the EU and if so, how might it be reduced?
One of the most controversial debates in the history of European Union (EU) is if there is a
democratic deficit in the EU. On the one hand, many scholars argued that the democratic deficit exists
in the EU. On the other hand, there are other scholars who claimed that there is not a democratic
deficit in the EU. In this essay, the writer will support the argument that the democratic deficit in the
EU exists and will propose how this deficit can be reduced. In the first part of this paper the
arguments, which support the existence of the democratic deficit, will be discussed. After that, this
essay will present the claims that there is no democratic deficit in the ... Show more content on

Furthermore, people can vote for and support the head of potential government. As a result, Hix
(2005:175) argues that democracy exists if there is a competition between rival political manifestos for
public policies and between the leaders of political parties and if there is a possibility to change the
government if citizens do not satisfy from government s policies. To conclude, in the majority of the
democracies today, the party or the leader that wins the elections becomes the government or the
president (Hix 2005:176).
What is democratic deficit?
As it is discussed briefly what this essay means as democracy, it is important to define what is
democratic deficit. Because of there is not a clear and concise definition for democratic deficit; this
essay is based on the standard version and the five standard claims of democratic deficit as it was
presented from Hix (2008).
The first claim is that European integration has led to an increase of executive power on the one hand
and on the other hand that national parliament lose more of their power (Hix Follesdal 2006:534,
Raunio 1999). It is true, that members of governments of members states of the EU participate in the
legislation process such as ministers from national governments in the council of minister. As a result,
it is possible that national governments can overcome the national parliaments when vote or co
decision in legislative process in the EU (Hix Follesdal 2006).

The Ocean Tone
As an observation of the opposing natures of the ocean s surfaces and depths, Hawthorne s The Ocean
illustrates the tranquility of a grave beneath the ocean s waves. The melancholy tone of the poem acts
like a unifying current, pervading the text of the poem and saturating it with a feeling of peace
mingled with undertones of sadness. Divided into two octaves, the poem first depicts the nature of the
ocean referring to it as quiet and alone then the second half of the poem contrasts typical graves with
the graves of mariners beneath the sea (2). The poem also relies on a detached observer to act as the
speaker to directly connect the audience to the image of the ocean which it is describing. The poem
starts with a description of the ocean and its caves and the first octave also establishes the inherent
contrast between the ocean s silent caves and its fury (1 3). The first octave portrays a divided ocean;

The final line of the first stanza emphasizes the power of the ocean and that it does not discriminate
when choosing its victims since it willingly takes the young, the bright, the fair (8). The poem then
transitions like the crest of a wave colliding with a sandy beach as it begins to talk specifically of
those who find solace beneath the wrathful waves. The poem s structure also echoes the ebb and flow
of the ocean as one wave flawlessly makes way for another. The second stanza begins by describing
the slumber of the wearied seamen and by stating that they are resting calmly the speaker conjures an
atmosphere of finality and peace (9). The poem also refers to the sea as belonging to the seamen
through the use of the word own and in doing so he emphasizes that because the men spent their lives
on the sea it became their home

Understanding Library Impact On Student Learning
Many college decisions alone are made upon the evaluation of a campus facilities, most importantly,
the library; the central spot students meet and attain their studies. The Watauga campus of Caldwell
Community College and Technical Institute has been neglected and is in dire need of a more
sophisticated and modern academic library. Academic libraries benefit students, as well as faculty
members. They offer a place for students studying alone or with a group, provide reference materials,
and in some snazzy locations, a place to get a cup of Joe. Education is the basis of personal growth
and professional success and a library is a wonderful place to begin this journey. According to Derek
Rodriguez in the scholarly journal, Understanding Library Impacts on Student Learning, libraries
define, develop, and measure outcomes that contribute to institutional effectiveness and apply findings
for purposes of continuous improvement (7). Libraries serve to be a very quiet and beneficial place of
study for students whose home lives conflict with their education. But what happens when a person s

Sustainability In Bc
Sustainability means having a forest that benefits as many people as possible right now, but will also
be there to use in the future (cite). Sustainability is very important in B.C. as such a large portion of
the province is covered in forests. This also makes the forest industry very important economically.
These factors make sustainability of such a large forested land base very important for British
Columbia in the present and the future. The BC government has made impressive bounds towards
making its forests sustainable. With the efforts that BC s government is making, it has made

(BCFPD). The board oversees the activities of forest companies, their private contractors, and the
government on public land. The board audits randomly selected forestry companies to be audited for
compliance and enforcement with forest practice requirements, audits the enforcement of the
government forest practices requirements, addresses public complaints on forestry practices, and
conducts special investigations on forestry issues (mr113). All the work that the BCFPD does has led
to notable positive changes in BC forestry. Some of these positive changes include: Less disturbance
from logging, smaller cut blocks, better logging roads and proper maintenance, and more deactivation
of logging roads (mr113). While reports have noted these improvements, the board still believes that
there is room for improvement. Policies and changes are continually evolving to make BC s forest as
competitive and sustainable as possible. Some of the changes that are believed to be needed include
new policies for efficiency, more timber availability to smaller organizations, such as first nations or
small communities to help long term economic development, and many others(mr113).

Docudrama Iron Jawed Angels Analysis
Many believe that the feminist movement started in the 70 s when feminism became more of a
household name, but in reality the feminist movement started with the suffragist movement. The
docudrama Iron Jawed Angels directed by Katja von Garnier in 2004, tells the story of passionate and
remarkable young suffragists, Alice Paul and her friend, Lucy Burns, setting the stage for what a
progressive and determined woman during this time should look like. Alice and Lucy are two activists
who just arrived from London and are meeting with Carrie Chapman Catta and Anna Howard, leaders
of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Carrie and Anna are more conservative with
their activism, while Alice and Lucy want to take the bull by the horns and fight for a constitutional

The parade draws much needed public attention, but much of it is not positive attention. The women
start to get attacked by men while the police stand idly by and let it happen. The younger activists are
actually pleased with the publicity they end up getting, including the front page of the newspaper,
despite all the negativity that came with it. Even with all the hard work these women put in, President
Wilson does still not see women s suffrage as an important enough issue to be dealing with right now.
With all of this happening, Alice decides it would be best to create a separate organization of women
that is solely dedicated to adding an amendment to the constitution. This causes the relationship
between the more conservative activists and the younger activists to deteriorate, leading to more
trouble within the suffragist movement. Fast forward in the movie and members of the party begin
standing at fence of the White House with a banner stating their demand for a constitutional
amendment. This causes much of the public to turn against the suffragists, possibly doing more harm
than good for the

Language As An Image Of Reality
Ashley Newman
Phil 422 Prof. Livingston Language as an Image of Reality
Wittgenstein s the Tractatus and Plato s Cratylus are two works that offer remarkably comparable
theories. The Tractatus uses propositions to establish a theory regarding language and Plato uses
names in the dialogue Cratylus to develop a similar theory. Using propositions and names,
respectively, the two philosophers develop arguments showing that there is an extreme parallel
between language and pictures. After Plato discloses the origination of names and Wittgenstein looks
at the composition of propositions, the two philosophers are able to assess the relation between names,

the importance of breaking down these first names into their elemental forms of letters and syllables.
Because there are no names before first names that offer a way to name first names, he decides each

What I Learned From My Writing
Since the beginning of English 1100, I have created trends in my writing. My approach to writing,
point of view, and writing styles are similar in all of my papers. I have taken the skills I learned from
my previous experiences of writing and improved them in this class. My liberal ideas that have been
embedded in my writing since high school are shown and reflected in multiple projects that I ve
completed. Many of my grammatical errors began to stick out and I have since learned how to correct
them. English 1100 has helped me to correct grammatical errors that I had never noticed before and
has ultimately allowed me to discover why I write a particular way. I have improved my writing habits
through this class and have been able to enhance my skills to the best of my ability.
A common trend among my papers has been my sentence structure. For the most part, my sentences
would be short and very straight forward. A common mistake that I see among many of my peers is
writing consciously, a problem I do not have. I like that I can get right to the point which allowed me
to be more direct in stating my facts and less worried about filling my paper with fluff. By the end of
the semester, I learned to make my sentences more balanced which would allow me to have more flow
throughout my paper. As the semester went on I started to pay closer attention to the length and the
content of each sentence and how each correlated with each other. I took a skill I had coming into the

Persuasion Techniques in the Workforce Essay
What is the most influential way of speaking that anyone can use that can change one s belief in a
matter of a few minutes? The techniques of persuasive language can alter the mind of anyone almost
subliminally. The use of such techniques such as rhetorical questions, humor, parallelism, or
exaggeration can change the mind even the most swayed believer. Good persuasive techniques are
often used in the work force through various instances. People who practice law or are car salesman
often find themselves using the effective persuasive techniques to convince others that their idea is the

Loaded words are sometimes used by attorneys to make an action seem more important or serious
than they really is. For an example, if someone steals an object from someone else, and it is put as, the
perpetrator deprived the victim s freedom by taking a prized possession that meant so much to him,
the incident is blown to a large proportion they may or may not be as serious as it is put. When jurors
receive loaded words, the real information is sometimes hidden or lost, which satisfies the goal of the
speaker, or in this a case, an attorney. Humor is sometimes used by lawyers to make the situation seem
lighter or less serious than the situation really is. If the lawyer makes the situation seem less important,
the listeners, or the jurors, can be effectively swayed into looking at the situation from a different
perspective. The use of persuasion in the law profession takes great skill and practice in order to be
used effectively. Although the persuasion used by attorneys are necessary for their profession, it is the
persuasive techniques used that make them look like liars or cheaters all because they make their
living by proving others wrong.

of their use of keen and very effective persuasion skills, salespeople efficiently influence people in

The museum s Collections of the art turn out to rely on the contributions of passionate individual
collectors. Both the museums were founded for the purpose of encouraging and developing the study
of fine arts and are open for the public, and situated in the United States.(Walter 3)
Viewing art in Frick Museum is fascinating since it serves as a monument to an individual founder and
memorizes the founder s personal taste of art.The collection displays the beliefs, choices and values of
an era. The advantage of this is that the collectors idealized the time of art history, thereby creating
museums to represent them after their death. It offers special opportunities for self representation as
reconciles the supposedly opposite values of private and public. They sort to retain control over their
creations. The museum allows an exceptional visual understanding of a crucial aspect of the history of
art. (Walter 3)The disadvantage in viewing art from Metropolitan museum is that the art, themuseum

Preferred Change Model
Leading Through and Beyond Change | L7451 A01 Preferred Change Model:
It is not only important to create a change friendly environment, it is also important to find the best
models and frameworks to implement the change. Kotter s eight step model for organizational change
is a detailed model and it provides organizations with a step by step guide to implement change
effectively. According to Calegari, Sibley, Turner (2015) the steps include 1) create a sense of
urgency; 2) build a guiding team; 3) get the vision right; 4) communicate the vision for buy in; 5)
empower action; 6) create short term wins; 7) don t let up; and 8) make change stick. (p. 34). Some of
the merits of this model include it s widely recognized effectiveness, it is very detailed and it focuses
on responses to change (Calegari, et al., 2015; Smith, 2011). There are also shortcomings in this
model, including the lengthy process, no flexibility in flow, and it is very sequential (Calegari, et al.,
2015; Smith, 2011). I would adjust for the shortcomings by stressing the importance of every step. I

It is important to have an understanding of Maxim, Will, and Duty to better understand the Categorical
Imperative theory. Maxim is a subjective principle of volition; Kant believed that when people were
doing something, they always followed the general principle. For example, if one person needed to
borrow some money from his friend, and he knows that he was not able to pay it back. However, he
still borrowed that money from his friend. In this time, the general principle is that whenever I need
money, I can borrow it from the others, even though I know that I would not give it back. So that
people would follow this general principle under the same situation if they argue with it. Also, the will
means what makes a good man good is the will to have a decision that is decided by universal moral
law in some way. Besides, the last one is the duty, according to Kant s theory; he believed that self
interest and motivation are different; how people act from the respect of the universal law would make
a good will. In another word, the theory of duty is a person with the capacity to act morally to
universal law. Furthermore, to better illustrate Kant s theory there is no better way than comparing the
differences between that with rule utilitarianism. The principle of utility is the greatest amount of good
for the greatest number. , which is also called consequentialism; the moral behavior

The feminist theory is an ougrowth of the general movement to empower women world wide.
Likewise to the feminist theory the short story Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perems Gillmarn
exposes the mental state of women in the late 1800s, and perharps even of the author s own struggle

power dynamics between men and women and the female experience. The short story Yellow

6.29. Thermal Interactions
Part 1:
In an insulated container, you mix 200. g of water at 80ºC with 100. g of water at 20ºC. After mixing,
the temperature of the water is 60ºC. * a. How much did the temperature of the hot water change?
How much did the temperature of the cold water change? Compare the magnitudes (positive values)
of these changes.
200g of water at 80°C = hot water
100g of water at 20˚C = cold water
After mixing the temperature is 60˚C (equilibrium T)
Answer:
The temperature of hot water changed:
60˚C 80˚C = 20˚C
The temperature of cold water changed:

q = ms∆T q = ? * 4.18J/g˚C * 40˚C
Mass of sample is not given, so we cannot calculate the heat added to the water sample.
Therefore the mass of the sample is needed to perform this calculation.
Part 3:
Two samples of water are heated from 20ºC to 60ºC. One of the samples requires twice as much heat
to bring about this temperature change as the other. How do the masses of the two water samples
compare? Explain your reasoning.
Answer:
Given;
Temperature change (∆T) = 60 20 = 40˚C
The first sample requires heat q1 = qJ (say) .......1
Then the second sample required heat q2 = 2q1J = 2q J .......2
Mass of first sample = m1g
Mass of second sample = m2g
Specific of water (s) = 4.18J/g˚C
By the equation: q = ms∆T q1 = m1 * 4.18J/g˚C * 40˚C for first sample q2 = m2 * 4.18J/g˚C * 40˚C
for the second sample
Putting the value of q from equations (1) and (2)
2 * m1 * 4.18J/g˚C * 40˚C = m2 * 4.18J/g˚C we get:
2m1 = m2 m1 = ½ m2
Thus the mass of the first sample is one half the mass of the second sample.
6.30. Enthalpy * a. A 100. g sample of water is placed in an insulated container and allowed to come

Answer:
100g water
Initial T = 21˚C
Final T = 41˚C
∆H = ?
From the equation: q = s * m * ∆T
∆T = tf ti = 41˚C 21˚C = +20˚C
Therefore, q = 4.18J/g˚C * 100g * (+20˚C) = 8.36 kJ

What Is The Role Of Slavery In African-American Culture
Slavery had also been present in New York from the earliest days of Dutch settlement. As their role

Inflation
Nigeria s consumer prices increased 17.24 percent year on year in April of 2017, easing slightly from
a 17.26 percent rise in the prior month. The inflation rate fell for the third straight month to the lowest
in nine months, led by a slowdown in prices of housing and utilities and transport (Wilson, David,

The Jewish acceptance of their ability to fit into the white crowd became a huge problem for blacks.
Considering the history of blacks and the history of Jews, there are some commonalities. First of all,
would be that both groups are minorities. Second, both groups of people have been victims of
oppression throughout their existence. However, for those Jewish survivors of the Holocaust, they
were able to escape their sorrows and migrate to the United States for a better life. For African
Americans, this wasn t the case. Where were they to run to post slavery? They were stuck in their
place of misery that lasted for years and the only thing they could do was hope for better days in the
country that hurt their race. There were very different views on the idea of whiteness . In Jane Anna

that Jews in the United States are seen by their black counterparts to have opted to become white.
Assuming that most blacks at the time were ignorant to the actual history behind Jews, they felt like
they were just choosing whiteness and genuinely wanted to contribute to the oppression of blacks,
leading to an increased amount of Anti Semitism due to anti whiteness. In Karen Brodkin s How Jews

The Balance Sheet For Microsoft
According to Bruns (2004), the balance sheet is a financial document, which identifies a company s
assets and liabilities. By deducting asserts from liabilities, a company s net worth can be calculated to
show the value of the company. Further, it shows the financial of the company on a particular date and
it provides a snapshot of a business health at a point in time (Bond, n.d. p. 4). However, the fact that
the balance sheet is a snapshot denotes that it is only valid at the time it was created. Thus, it may not
represent a true and fair view of the company. In this essay, I will discuss different aspects of the
balance sheet for Microsoft. I will also focus on the importance of the balance sheet and the role it
carries out.
Microsoft was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen from Seattle, and incorporated in 1981
(Liquori, 2011). Being the number one software company in the world Microsoft employs about

Institutions can have positive and negative effects that can alter an individual s perceptions, judgment
and values. Raw by Scott Monk, Hard Rock by Etheridge Knight and Dangerous Minds by John N.
Smith help communicate an understanding of how such institutions can reform an individual.
The novel Raw written by Scott Monk, is simple in style but introduces interesting and an acceptable
insight to the concept of the institution and the individual experience . Brett Dalton resembles a highly

He implies that the power to change lives within the individual. Further on in the novel, Brett is still of
concern and Sam reaches out to try and help. Don t shut me out, Brett. I do know the score and that is
why I m worried about you . This indicates the positive effect of the institution and on the individual.
Josh is another character who helps Brett reform. Josh is seen as the rehabilitated teenager who
chooses to stay on the farm. He helps Brett realize that his problems are the least of his worries when
compared with other troubled teenagers, for example Josh himself. His problems are quite
indescribable, he has no parents that desire to care for him, whilst Brett does, and this changes Brett s
perspective towards Josh and his life. Monk deliberately outlines the change in Brett through Josh to
demonstrate the changing experience and positive effect of the institution on Brett.
Scott Monk employs many techniques to convey his ideas of the positive changes Brett incurred from
an institution. One of many is the use of contrast, which juxtaposes Brett s life at the beginning and his
reformed life at the end. Monk highlights this contrast through the prologue and epilogue. In the
prologue, Brett hates anyone who has the authority he thinks the whole world is against him, whilst in
the epilogue Brett had learnt to make friendships, gain trust and respect and learn to accept his own
mistakes and responsibilities.

Cleaning A Car After It Has Had Body Work
Cleaning a car after it has had body work done and been buffed is not as simple as it sounds. There are
several steps to this process and each step requires materials a common household would not have.
The materials needed include several microfiber towels, glass cleaner, show shine, interior cleaner,
spray bottles, steel wool, vacuum cleaner with extendable hose, a water hose and/or a power washer,
car wax, and paint thinner. Making a car spick and span after it has been repaired is not necessarily a
complex process, but it does have several steps that a common person would not think about. The first
step to washing a vehicle is to check it over and make sure everything that was supposed to be fixed
is. The easy way to see which parts were replaced is to feel around the car and find the fresh paint.
Fresh paint feels much smoother than the paint on the original parts of the car. Finding the replaced
parts is important because around those parts are where the rubbing compound leftover from the
buffer and the overspray leftover from the painter will be located. Rubbing compound is what buffers

The Legalization Of Abortion In The United States
Abortion, one of the most controversial ongoing issues, has become common in the United States.
There are a lot of reasons defending the legalization of abortion. However, understanding the medical
information and perspectives on abortion can solve this controversial issue. Unlike the common
knowledge that abortion is performed in an unsafe setting and has the potential long term
complications, abortion is actually performed by professions and has few complications if it is
performed within twelve weeks of pregnancy. First of all, abortion is a method to terminate a
pregnancy by using medicine or surgery to remove the fetus from the uterus. It always has been a part
of human culture since long time ago. One of the most common reasons of ... Show more content on

However, the beginning of human life cannot be determined and extends beyond the knowledge of
medicine. The problem of the moral status of the fetus is done by experiences, religious and
philosophical beliefs, moral belief, and so on. Medicine does not ability to establish when the moral
status on the fetus occurs. Moreover, the fetus within 12 weeks is not fully developed, so arguing
about the fetus s moral fetus is somewhat unreasonable and unnecessary. According to Elizabeth
Harman, inaccessible facts determine a fetus s moral status. We can t ever know how to treat an early
fetus, because we can t be sure of its moral status. (Harman). Furthermore, the fetuses cannot feel pain
during abortion (Rosenfield). According to Stuart W. G. Derbyshire, necessary to the development of
pain experience is also yet to occur. (Derbyshire), and there is no evidence that brain and neurological
system are developed enough even at twenty four weeks for the fetus to experience pain (Rosenfield).
Arguing about something that has not proven is not right. Even though today s medical techniques
have been developing rapidly, there are certainly some concepts that cannot be proven with them.
Abortion may be performed naturally or artificially. Abortion that occurs within the first twenty weeks
is called a miscarriage and after twenty weeks is called a stillbirth. The types of surgical abortion
procedure are varied on the stage

Apathy In American Psycho
I believe that everyone in my generation should watch the controversial film American Psycho. This
movie is essentially a social commentary on how our society is dying. It provides some examples of
the symptoms of a dying society we see in our world today, like apathy, moral decay, and affluenza.
American Psycho displays apathy in the last scene of the movie. The main character,
Patrick Bateman, had just committed mass murder the night before and confessed it to his lawyer. His
lawyer, fearing the public backlash against Patrick, essentially told him to act as if nothing happened.
Patrick was never punished for his heinous crime because no one cared enough to prosecute him. In
addition, when Patrick returned to the apartment where he murdered his friend several days before, he
found a real estate company there that was cleaning up the place and attempting to sell the apartment.
When he inspected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One scene that displays this features Patrick and his friends comparing business cards. Patrick s card is
not the best, so he has a mental breakdown. In another scene, he kills his friend because his friend
likes a different restaurant than Patrick does. Perhaps the most glaring example, however, is the scene
where he brutally stabs a homeless man to death: first, he felt bad for the homeless and said he would
help the him, but then when Patrick saw that the homeless man was absolutely pathetic by Patrick s
standards , Patrick proceeded to take out a knife and stab the homeless man to death. American Psycho
is a masterfully crafted social commentary relevant today. It shows the signs of a defective and dying
society, which include apathy, moral decay, and affluenza. This is relevant today because these three
qualities are exactly what we see today in society. American Psycho can be interpreted as a call to
action, to maintain high moral standards and to not let our wealth blind us to the needs of other

Essay about canadian tire audit report
Client risk profile
Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited (CTC) is primarily a canadian retailer, focusing on automotive
and general merchandise. Founded in 1922, the company has been around for almost a century,
building strong brand recognition in Canada. Initially starting as a car parts retailer they have
expanded rapidly into other areas, mainly general merchandise retail. They have other secondary
divisions being; Partsource Automotive stores (strictly automotive parts), Financial Services, Mark s
Work Wearhouse (clothing retailer), FGL Sports Ltd. (various sporting good retail chains), and
Canadian Tire Petroleum (gas stations and car washing). The main users of CTC s financial statements
have been identified as the debt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This system causes many inefficiencies, both financial and non financial, for CTR in comparison to its
competitors (EXHIBIT CIBC REPORT). However, the dealer corporation model is as old as Canadian
Tire itself and extremely unlikely to change. Essentially the dealer is responsible for everything in
store, and the corporation takes care of the rest. A list of segregated responsibilities can be seen in
Exhibit Z.
Going Concern Canadian Tire Corporation is in good financial standing and extremely unlikely to
bankrupt in coming years. Currently CTC s debt to equity ratio is 0.242 below the industry average of
1.557, with a current ratio 0.614 above the industry average of 1.061. Addressing the debt to equity
shortfall, CTC has decreased its debt to equity from 1.897 to 1.739 between third quarters of 2012 and
2010. This is including the acquisition of FGL Sports Ltd. which spiked debt in 2011. (CITE
ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES) There is no issue of going concern.
Technology IT is centrally managed for each of CTC s specific divisions. Retail stores use software to
keep track of inventory and prices regarding items in stores. The stores then transmit this information
to make purchases from CTC. It is an integral part of their supply chain and retail operations. They are
continuing to upgrade these internally developed systems, which could pose a risk for exceptions.
These systems will require increased test of controls

Altur A Short Story
It s been missed before. Don t feel bad if you do it too; there s a sign that points out Whitewater State
Park, but not the towns that surround it. It s okay. It s a small place surrounded by cornfields. It s cozy.
I mean, if you like the small town feel, Altura is the place to be! I bet if you stood on one end of Main
Street, you could spit into the farthest yard on the other end. Altura is in a sort of funny spot. It s only
11 miles from the heart of Winona County and 13 from the fairgrounds, yet most people never know it
even exists. There are maybe four hundred people; however, you would not know it in the winter. It s
a ghost town then. The old folks all leave for Florida or somewhere else, somewhere nice. Despite the
flaws, Altura has a lot to offer all year round; it will always be a part of me. Usually, it s the end of
December before I notice the lack of life. The months leading up to it are pretty busy. I m not sure
who does it, but the town gets pretty festive right before everyone leaves. The first snowfall brings out
a lot of people. Soon afterwards, the lights and decorations go up. It s funny really. The cheerful
shrieks from the children and the struggle of hanging the Christmas lights makes the ... Show more

boring and slow Altura is, it will always be a part of me. This small old town is part of who I am. In

Walmart Business Model Good For Consumers
I think it s fair to assume that the majority of the people reading this paper have been to a Walmart
store at least once in their lives. The corporation has dominated the American market for years, and
currently holds the number one position at the top Fortune 500 companies of 2014 (Fortune, 2014). As
Walmart holds such a pivotal position across America, I think it s a good idea to devote an
investigation into its benefits and drawbacks over several different areas. With that being said, the
areas that we ll be looking into within this paper: 1) Is the Walmart business model good for
consumers? 2) Is the Walmart business model good for communities? 3) Is the Walmart business
model good for international development? Now allow me to attempt to answer these three questions
by providing both mine and others opinions on the matter let s start with the question of Walmart and
consumers. Walmart and Consumers My initial thought on the matter is that Walmart s business model
is more than beneficial towards consumers. As a customer I m always on the lookout for a better deal,
and by scraping those essential pennies off of their prices Walmart has created an environment entirely
conducive towards me saving more money than I would if I shopped elsewhere that day. As a result of
Walmart s always low prices there are huge amounts of people who give their time (and more
importantly, their money) to the superstore chain. Another area worth mention is the way that Walmart

Weed Research Paper
Marijuana is one of Americas most addicting drugs on the market. Marijuana is most commonly
referred to as Weed . Weed is Americas most popular drug. Marijuana refers to the dried leaves,
flowers, stems, and seeds from the hemp plant, Cannabis sativa. The plant contains the mind altering
chemical delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and other related compounds. Marijuana is not like
other drugs, weed is inhaled as a smoke and then proceeds to the lungs. There at the lungs it weakens
the little hairs inside the lung witch then lets the weed smoke slip through with ease. It then gets into
the blood stream and then goes to the brain and then heart. The brain tells the heart to let go of more
blood flow. Now in only one to five minutes your body has begun to change, and your eyes start to get
blood shot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The addiction stage is the part of the process that in which one starts to want it more so your body
searches for more. With no luck finding any your body goes into shock and into panic, it no longer
wants it, it needs it. So your body technically throes a big temper tantrum in a struggle for the drug.
The final stage of the process is withdraw. Your body has built up a tolerance to the drug, now you
need to ease off it. If you try to get off it all at once your body could go back into shock, so you need
to ease off it, just start smoking it a little less, a little less, and a little less until you finally

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Green House Effect We as a society have reached one of the most crucial time periods in the history of our world. Due to the way we have used the resources on this earth we have created a situation in which our climate is drastically changing. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil has caused gases like carbon dioxide to become trapped in the atmosphere causing a natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect has caused the earth s average temperature to rise and has resulted in arctic glaciers melting. These glaciers had gases trapped inside them that are now being released into the atmosphere further raising the earth s temperature. Due to the way we are polluting our air we have caused global warming. This global warming has caused stronger natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires putting our society in more danger than ever before. Joseph Fournier came up with the idea of the greenhouse effect in 1824. In the late 1950 s Charles Keeling created a tool in Mauna Loa Hawaii to measure the amount of carbon dioxide being trapped in the atmosphere due to the greenhouse effect. This tool has discovered a steady increase in the carbon dioxide levels over the last fifty years in what has become known as the Keeling Curve . Keeling discovered that about twenty five percent of the carbon dioxide molecules in our atmosphere are man made. These carbon dioxide molecules being trapped in the atmosphere are raising earth s temperature at a dangerous rate. Many in the science ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hester Prynne and Roger Chillingworth in Puritan Society... Believed by many writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, society corrupts and conforms the individual, and it is the individual who breaks from consistency and conformity that is most free. Hester Prynne, a woman punished for adultery, is isolated by herself and her community, but breaks free from strict Puritan society. Roger Chillingworth, the husband of Hester, isolates himself which leads to the destruction of himself and the community. Hester Prynne and Roger Chillingworth experience different types of isolation, and while Hester chooses to transcend Puritan laws and live a purposeful life regardless of how it affects her, Chillingworth decides to become infatuated with the sin of Arthur Dimmesdale and live in revenge outside of Puritan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The puritan mindset affected how Hester and Chillingworth viewed there isolation. Hester Prynne s isolation, though primarily inflicted by the community, was also inflicted by herself, and in her isolation, Hester became an integral community member at the cost of her femininity and passion. Hester is primarily isolated by her community as she is forced to wear the scarlet letter for the rest of her life to separate her as an adulteress. This was common practice for colony members in Plymouth in 1694 though typically a whipping or death was the punishment (Hawthorne 220). The isolation caused by her community is not destructive to herself, and in a way, is beneficial for her soul. Using her needlework as an outlet for her creativity, Hester provided clothes for the poor, embroidered clothing, and earned back her reputation. Not only would the A come to mean Able, but it also gave herself a sense of belonging. According to Jennifer McClinton Temple, such isolation leaves that person nothing but he or she s mind and therefore inspiring creativity (McClinton Temple). Being left to her own faculties, Hester was able to think freely and apart from typical Puritan ideas. According to Hawthorne, for a Puritan, and a woman no less, to have broken free from Puritan conformity would have held to be a deadlier crime than that stigmatized by the scarlet letter in the eyes of the Puritan magistrates (Hawthorne ... • 4. The Population Of Bluefin Tuna The population of Bluefin Tuna has been dramatically declining over the past few decades with no expectation of slowing down. Bluefin Tuna are a very important species of fish because they are one of the top predators in the ocean and if they become extinct the balance of the ocean s ecosystem would be off. The classification of Bluefin Tuna includes a few different types, all of which are endangered and it is estimated that they will soon become extinct. The categorization of each type of Bluefin Tuna species is based on geographical location although the exact number varies from 3 8. Although there are still significant number of Bluefin tuna in the ocean, the demand for the fish has increased dramatically with no sign of decreasing. This demand has caused new and harmful fishing methods to be created. They have become incredibly popular in sushi as well as other food and for this reason the population has declined; however, there are methods that could be used in order to prevent the species from becoming extinct. Analyzing the change in fishing practices and a change in the fish that are caught might explain this change. Due to the fact that the spawning process causes fish to stay in shallow waters and closer to land, they are more likely to be caught at this time. For this reason the age that they are at during the spawning period would indicate what age they usually are when they are caught. The estimated age structure of fish caught by the Indonesian fleet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The colonies of Virginia and Massachusetts were both established during the same time, but the ways that they were established were very different .The Virginia colony had many failures and close calls, while on the other hand Massachusetts landed a successful first settlement. Virginia began to create plantations for tobacco and Massachusetts was a seaport, both began to suffer from the increase of immigrants. The immigrants created a lot of competition for work. Both societies were engulfed with an increase of immigrants, creating a competition for jobs. Boston was in bad shape and people looked to the community for help. Virginia made its money through tobacco, and along with that came an increase in slavery. On the other hand Massachusetts did not have as great of a demand for slaves. Though both of the settlements had different tactics, neither of them could avoid the problems from increase of immigration and both relied on their separate means of making profit. To conclude, it can be seen that both colonies, had similar goals as to what needed to be done to make their colonies last, but the methods that were used were very different. From Virginia and Massachusetts it can be determined that two colonies with the same goal can come to two separate political systems based off of their economic ... • 6. The Israel-Palestine Conflict 2) Hamas won legislative elections but lost the presidential election and it is the president who conducts negotiations. The reason was the electorate s disgruntlement with Fatah s corruption. Perhaps that is also a component of its failure to make peace? ME Public opinion polls among Palestinians consistently show high levels of support for the two state solution, which averaged 82 87% in 2000 07, while 73 77% favored reconciliation between the two peoples and 66 71% joint economic ventures between an Israeli and Palestinian state (Dowty, p. 190). At the same time, the majority of Israeli s supported the two state solution, although 30 40% remained opposed for religious, nationalist or security reasons. Palestinians supported ongoing attacks against Israel not to overthrow the government or take over the country and drive out the Jews, or because of irrational hatred of Jews and Israel, but only because of the continuing military occupation and expansion of settlements. Camp David didn t fail because of Israel but because according to the most pro Arab primary account (Agha Malley) Arafat walked out after having said no to everything . At Taba, Arafat ran out the clock on negotiations. Followed by burning the olive branch extended by Peres at Davos. • 10. Using Homemade Solar Cookers And Solar Energy Using Homemade Solar Cookers and Solar Energy to Pasteurize Non Potable Water by Killing Harmful Bacteria, Parasites, and Diseases Maia J. Graudick Brown School Abstract In less developed countries, there is a lack of availability in potable water for safe consumption. Using a device known as a solar cooker may allow for cheap and easy access to water without worry of contracting diseases. Solar cookers utilize solar energy by focusing the sun s rays into water, heating the water to a temperature hot enough to kill harmful pathogens. A homemade solar cooker was filled 100ml of non potable water and set out in the sun for 50 minutes. The experiment resulted in a success with 95.9% of all organisms in the water being killed, effectively pasteurizing the water for safe drinking. The experiment provided evidence to support that solar cookers are reliable option for pasteurizing non potable water in less developed countries. Using Homemade Solar Cookers and Solar Energy to Pasteurize Non Potable Water by Killing Harmful Bacteria, Parasites, and Diseases Water is highly important in sustaining human life. Untreated water however, can have very harmful effects on the body. Water that is not of drinking standards, or non potable water, can contain harmful and possibly fatal pathogens. The consumption of this water by humans is extremely dangerous. In less developed countries (LDCs) effective methods of pasteurizing non potable water are not always readily ... One of the most controversial debates in the history of European Union (EU) is if there is a democratic deficit in the EU. On the one hand, many scholars argued that the democratic deficit exists in the EU. On the other hand, there are other scholars who claimed that there is not a democratic deficit in the EU. In this essay, the writer will support the argument that the democratic deficit in the EU exists and will propose how this deficit can be reduced. To conclude, in the majority of the democracies today, the party or the leader that wins the elections becomes the government or the president (Hix 2005:176). What is democratic deficit? As it is discussed briefly what this essay means as democracy, it is important to define what is democratic deficit. Because of there is not a clear and concise definition for democratic deficit; this essay is based on the standard version and the five standard claims of democratic deficit as it was presented from Hix (2008). The first claim is that European integration has led to an increase of executive power on the one hand and on the other hand that national parliament lose more of their power (Hix Follesdal 2006:534, Raunio 1999). It is true, that members of governments of members states of the EU participate in the legislation process such as ministers from national governments in the council of minister. • 12. The Ocean Tone As an observation of the opposing natures of the ocean s surfaces and depths, Hawthorne s The Ocean illustrates the tranquility of a grave beneath the ocean s waves. The melancholy tone of the poem acts like a unifying current, pervading the text of the poem and saturating it with a feeling of peace mingled with undertones of sadness. Divided into two octaves, the poem first depicts the nature of the ocean referring to it as quiet and alone then the second half of the poem contrasts typical graves with the graves of mariners beneath the sea (2). The poem also relies on a detached observer to act as the speaker to directly connect the audience to the image of the ocean which it is describing. Understanding Library Impact On Student Learning Many college decisions alone are made upon the evaluation of a campus facilities, most importantly, the library; the central spot students meet and attain their studies. The Watauga campus of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute has been neglected and is in dire need of a more sophisticated and modern academic library. Academic libraries benefit students, as well as faculty members. They offer a place for students studying alone or with a group, provide reference materials, and in some snazzy locations, a place to get a cup of Joe. Education is the basis of personal growth and professional success and a library is a wonderful place to begin this journey. According to Derek Rodriguez in the scholarly journal, Understanding Library Impacts on Student Learning, libraries define, develop, and measure outcomes that contribute to institutional effectiveness and apply findings for purposes of continuous improvement (7). Libraries serve to be a very quiet and beneficial place of study for students whose home lives conflict with their education. But what happens when a person s school doesn t have a proper facility? Sustainability is very important in B.C. as such a large portion of the province is covered in forests. This also makes the forest industry very important economically. These factors make sustainability of such a large forested land base very important for British Columbia in the present and the future. All the work that the BCFPD does has led to notable positive changes in BC forestry. Some of these positive changes include: Less disturbance from logging, smaller cut blocks, better logging roads and proper maintenance, and more deactivation of logging roads (mr113). Alice and Lucy are two activists who just arrived from London and are meeting with Carrie Chapman Catta and Anna Howard, leaders of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. The younger activists are actually pleased with the publicity they end up getting, including the front page of the newspaper, despite all the negativity that came with it. Even with all the hard work these women put in, President Wilson does still not see women s suffrage as an important enough issue to be dealing with right now. With all of this happening, Alice decides it would be best to create a separate organization of women that is solely dedicated to adding an amendment to the constitution. Language As An Image Of Reality Ashley Newman Phil 422 Prof. Livingston Language as an Image of Reality Wittgenstein s the Tractatus and Plato s Cratylus are two works that offer remarkably comparable theories. The Tractatus uses propositions to establish a theory regarding language and Plato uses names in the dialogue Cratylus to develop a similar theory. Using propositions and names, respectively, the two philosophers develop arguments showing that there is an extreme parallel between language and pictures. This brings Socrates to acknowledge the importance of breaking down these first names into their elemental forms of letters and syllables. Because there are no names before first names that offer a way to name first names, he decides each letter and syllable of a first name must correspond to an element of which it is composed. My liberal ideas that have been embedded in my writing since high school are shown and reflected in multiple projects that I ve completed. Many of my grammatical errors began to stick out and I have since learned how to correct them. English 1100 has helped me to correct grammatical errors that I had never noticed before and has ultimately allowed me to discover why I write a particular way. I have improved my writing habits through this class and have been able to enhance my skills to the best of my ability. A common trend among my papers has been my sentence structure. For the most part, my sentences would be short and very straight forward. A common mistake that I see among many of my peers is writing consciously, a problem I do not have. I like that I can get right to the point which allowed me to be more direct in stating my facts and less worried about filling my paper with fluff. By the end of the semester, I learned to make my sentences more balanced which would allow me to have more flow throughout my paper. I turn on the radio, the TV, and, yes, sit down at my table to relax with your newspaper (which I have valued for many years now for its absence of Nazi views, but no more, I suppose), and all I hear or see or read is how gun violence has skyrocketed, guns are ruining this country, how the darn government should put more limits on gun use. This has gotten to a point where now, it feels personal. Someone needs to take a stand for these poor guns. Why, a person might wonder, should he listen to my opinion? • 39. The Balance Sheet For Microsoft According to Bruns (2004), the balance sheet is a financial document, which identifies a company s assets and liabilities. By deducting asserts from liabilities, a company s net worth can be calculated to show the value of the company. Further, it shows the financial of the company on a particular date and it provides a snapshot of a business health at a point in time (Bond, n.d. p. 4). However, the fact that the balance sheet is a snapshot denotes that it is only valid at the time it was created. Thus, it may not represent a true and fair view of the company. In this essay, I will discuss different aspects of the balance sheet for Microsoft. I will also focus on the importance of the balance sheet and the role it carries out. Microsoft was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen from Seattle, and incorporated in 1981 (Liquori, 2011). Being the number one software company in the world Microsoft employs about 52,000 people working full time, 21,000 in product research and development, 23,500 in sales, marketing, and support, 2,200 in manufacturing and distribution, and 4,000 in finance and administration. The following report will include an analysis of financial reports, income statements, Balance sheets, and cash flow statements (Liquori, 2011). Smith Institutions can have positive and negative effects that can alter an individual s perceptions, judgment and values. Raw by Scott Monk, Hard Rock by Etheridge Knight and Dangerous Minds by John N. Smith help communicate an understanding of how such institutions can reform an individual. The novel Raw written by Scott Monk, is simple in style but introduces interesting and an acceptable insight to the concept of the institution and the individual experience . Don t shut me out, Brett. I do know the score and that is why I m worried about you . This indicates the positive effect of the institution and on the individual. Josh is another character who helps Brett reform. Josh is seen as the rehabilitated teenager who chooses to stay on the farm. He helps Brett realize that his problems are the least of his worries when compared with other troubled teenagers, for example Josh himself. His problems are quite indescribable, he has no parents that desire to care for him, whilst Brett does, and this changes Brett s perspective towards Josh and his life. Monk deliberately outlines the change in Brett through Josh to demonstrate the changing experience and positive effect of the institution on Brett. Scott Monk employs many techniques to convey his ideas of the positive changes Brett incurred from an institution. One of many is the use of contrast, which juxtaposes Brett s life at the beginning and his reformed life at the end. Monk highlights this contrast through the prologue and epilogue. In the prologue, Brett hates anyone who has the authority he thinks the whole world is against him, whilst in the epilogue Brett had learnt to make friendships, gain trust and respect and learn to accept his own mistakes and responsibilities. • 41. Cleaning A Car After It Has Had Body Work Cleaning a car after it has had body work done and been buffed is not as simple as it sounds. There are several steps to this process and each step requires materials a common household would not have. The materials needed include several microfiber towels, glass cleaner, show shine, interior cleaner, spray bottles, steel wool, vacuum cleaner with extendable hose, a water hose and/or a power washer, car wax, and paint thinner. Making a car spick and span after it has been repaired is not necessarily a complex process, but it does have several steps that a common person would not think about. The first step to washing a vehicle is to check it over and make sure everything that was supposed to be fixed is. The easy way to see which parts were replaced is to feel around the car and find the fresh paint. Fresh paint feels much smoother than the paint on the original parts of the car. Finding the replaced parts is important because around those parts are where the rubbing compound leftover from the buffer and the overspray leftover from the painter will be located. Rubbing compound is what buffers put on the car before they start buffing so that the buffer itself won t scratch the vehicle. When buffing the white compound will often get lodged in the small crevices of car, like in the crack between the headlight and car or the bumper and the back quarter panel. Overspray is a white and rough substance left on the car from the painters. It can be easily seen on darker color cars, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are a lot of reasons defending the legalization of abortion. However, understanding the medical information and perspectives on abortion can solve this controversial issue. Unlike the common knowledge that abortion is performed in an unsafe setting and has the potential long term complications, abortion is actually performed by professions and has few complications if it is performed within twelve weeks of pregnancy. The problem of the moral status of the fetus is done by experiences, religious and philosophical beliefs, moral belief, and so on. Medicine does not ability to establish when the moral status on the fetus occurs. Moreover, the fetus within 12 weeks is not fully developed, so arguing about the fetus s moral fetus is somewhat unreasonable and unnecessary. According to Elizabeth Harman, inaccessible facts determine a fetus s moral status. We can t ever know how to treat an early fetus, because we can t be sure of its moral status. (Harman). Furthermore, the fetuses cannot feel pain during abortion (Rosenfield). According to Stuart W. G. Derbyshire, necessary to the development of pain experience is also yet to occur. • 44. Apathy In American Psycho I believe that everyone in my generation should watch the controversial film American Psycho. This movie is essentially a social commentary on how our society is dying. It provides some examples of the symptoms of a dying society we see in our world today, like apathy, moral decay, and affluenza. American Psycho displays apathy in the last scene of the movie. The main character, Patrick Bateman, had just committed mass murder the night before and confessed it to his lawyer. His lawyer, fearing the public backlash against Patrick, essentially told him to act as if nothing happened. Patrick was never punished for his heinous crime because no one cared enough to prosecute him. In addition, when Patrick returned to the apartment where he murdered his friend several days before, he found a real estate company there that was cleaning up the place and attempting to sell the apartment. American Psycho is a masterfully crafted social commentary relevant today. It shows the signs of a defective and dying society, which include apathy, moral decay, and affluenza. Currently CTC s debt to equity ratio is 0.242 below the industry average of 1.557, with a current ratio 0.614 above the industry average of 1.061. The corporation has dominated the American market for years, and currently holds the number one position at the top Fortune 500 companies of 2014 (Fortune, 2014). As Walmart holds such a pivotal position across America, I think it s a good idea to devote an investigation into its benefits and drawbacks over several different areas. With that being said, the areas that we ll be looking into within this paper: 1) Is the Walmart business model good for consumers? 2) Is the Walmart business model good for communities? 3) Is the Walmart business model good for international development?
