Dred Scott Decision Essay
Around the 1850 s, tension between the Northern states and the Southern states was rising. The issue
of slavery was a conflict that greatly contributed to this tension. The Northern and Southern people
had very different views on slavery. Most of the Northern people thought that slavery was wrong,
while the Southern people thought that slavery was justified. During this time, a court case filed by a
black slave against his white slave master occurred and it widened the gap between them even more.
The idea of a black man suing for his freedom was ridiculous to most of the Southern people. My
second paragraph is about Dred Scott s life. It will mostly be about his life before the case. The third
paragraph will be information about the case ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John granted their request and they married. Harriet and Dred had two sons who died during infancy
and two daughters, Eliza and Lizzie. In 1842, the Emersons and the Scotts returned to St. Louis, (The
Life of Dred Scott). Dred s residency in the Upper Louisiana Territory and Illinois gave him the right
to become free, but at this time he did not know his rights. When John died in 1843, his widow hired
him out to an army captain. While under the Army captain s command, he tried to find freedom for his
family. When Mrs. Emerson refused his offer of three hundred dollars for their freedom, he decided to
take legal action, (Dred Scott s fight for freedom). These legal actions led to a series of long legal
battles. The Blow brothers provided the Scott Family with legal and finical help for court. In 1847,
Dred Scott first went to trial to sue for his freedom, (Dred Scott s fight for freedom). While the
immediate issue in this case was Dred Scott s status, the court also had the opportunity to rule on the
question of slavery in the territories, (Appleby et all, 446 447). One of the main issues of this case was
that the justices were trying to settle a political problem rather than being completely fair in their
decisions. Dred lost the first trial but was granted a second trial. The next year the Missouri Supreme
Court decided that the case should be retried, (Dred Scott s fight for freedom). In 1850, the Circuit
Court of St. Louis County

The Censorship Of The Media
Despite Trump s obvious bigotry and objectively harmful policies, he has enjoyed a meteoric rise to
the face of the Republican Party in the 2015 elections. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party s nominee,
Hillary Clinton, faces a litany of allegations regarding her mishandling of classified information of an
attack on an American embassy in a foreign nation. Many late night television hosts often joke that
these two candidates are in a race that they should win because their opponent is quite obviously a
terrible choice. And yet as Americans debate the the merits of these candidates, many other countries
and their politics are disregarded. In a global economy, the ongoings of the world inform American
policy and economics. Yet Americans remain ambivalent because other countries are not debated in
the news. The news media implicitly apply filters to their coverage of news stories to inform the
public thereby creating a narrative skewed by political or financial gain to influence their viewers.
Because the media is privatized, it is difficult to recognize this propaganda system. Careful dissection
of the time and space dedicated to each story covered by the anchors between networks and
newspapers highlights this discrepancy.
A cursory examination into ABC World News and NBC Nightly News reveals a conscious decision to
dedicate increasing amounts of time to self identified feel good stories and minimize coverage of the
civil unrest in Yemen, the Syrian refugee crisis, and the

Analysis Of The Pardoner
My initial reaction to the work was one on astonishment. Everything that the Pardoner was saying and
describing reminded me of the Evangelists of today of who travel from town to town and setup great
big tents just to steal the money from good hard working people from the way the Pardoner has the
same sermon practiced and rehearsed. Upon first reading, I have read this poem more than a few
times, I jotted down some words that I had never heard of before, those being; Cuckold, Avarice, and
Jakes.
Geoffrey Chaucer lived between 1340 and 1400 in London England. The son of a Sommelier of sorts,
his family made their money from the selling and buying of wine. In his teens Chaucer went to fight in
the hundred years war during he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In every small village that he visits his sermon topic is always the same: greed is the root of evil. The
Pardoner always preaches about greed, the same sin that he admits to possessing. Although the
Pardoner himself is guilty of Greed, he warns people about the dangers of covetousness through
examples from history and the Bible. However, the Pardoner himself states For I ll have money, wool,
and cheese, and wheat, though given by the poorest serving lad, or by the poorest widow in the place
meaning that he would rather take from the starving and destitute than give up his creature comforts.
In Flanders, there were three young hooligans who loved to amuse themselves by gambling, being
rambunctious and drinking. The Pardoner goes into a speech of criticism about their sinful lives.
Finally, after his long speech, the Pardoner reflects back onto the three young hooligans, who are
drinking at the tavern when they hear the church bell signaling the sound of a passing coffin. A servant
tells the group of travelers that the dead man was a friend of the three who had been stabbed in the
night by a thief called Death . The young hooligans declare that they will find and kill the thief Death.
They pledge to each other as brothers in their endeavor.
The young hooligans meet an old man in rags who

Broken Air Conditioners Letter
Dear neighbors, we are the tenants in building 807. We have had a broken air conditioner since June!
We many repeated efforts to report and the issue to be fixed. The office and maintenance team gave us
nothing but false promises and commitments to resolve the issue. This one of many issues that have
been neglected, due to poor management and a poor maintenance team.
It comes to our attention that we are not alone in this. Many neighbors that I have talked to have
similar stories. For example one of our own, our neighbor has a mold infestation in her home, and is
causing her and her children to get sick! She does not know what to do and can t afford to move her
family.
This treatment is absolutely unacceptable! And Ravens Crossings will pay!

Le Roman And Les Misérables
Le Roman was a story by Victor Hugo about several characters who are faced with horrible situations.
Throughout the story the characters have to overcome the conflicts that they posses and those that are
thrown at them throughout the rest of the story. Troubles such as poverty, criminal records, and greed
weaves all the characters together to show that they are all connected. In Les Misérables, the
characters are also faced with many problems. However, those problems are based off of racism,
betrayal, and fear. Like in le roman, the characters are connected and eventually creates some kind of
relationship. Le Roman and Les Misérables both shows how difficult situations can bring people

Although his crimes would seem minor today, those crimes where major back then and his attempts to
escape had only increased his sentence. When he was released from his prison, he reentered society
and was imminently met with rude, unwelcoming gestures from the citizens of France. In Les
Misérables there had been many examples of characters who had shown a resemblance to Jean
Valjean. In the beginning of the movie a man named Henri had been accused of killing a man that
committed suicide when he had been driving him home. This resulted in him being sent to prison
where he had tried to escape. Later in the movie, Henri s son who is also referred to as Henri is grown

his training as a boxer, Henri was able to lift the piano up and save the man. This is similar to when
Jean Valjean was able to save a man stuck underneath a cart by lifting it off of the man s chest.

The Fda s Global Unique Device Identification Analysis
The FDA has established a unique device identification (UDI) database to enhance the identification
of medical devices from point of manufacture through delivery to the end user. This guideline covers
medical devices Classes I, II, and III (FDA 2014), where Class I poses the lowest risk to patient and
Class III carries the highest risk. When fully implemented, the label for the majority of medical
devices will contain a unique device identifier (UDI) in a human and machine readable (barcode) form
(FDA 2017). Medical device companies operating under FDA guidelines will be required to submit
certain information about each device to the FDA s Global Unique Device Identification Database
(GUDID) (FDA 2014). In order to allow organizations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Problem Statement
Many companies have set forth action plans for UDI compliance, however, when they purchase the
Prisym ID solution, their personnel, from entry level through C level have not had exposure or
training on the PRISYM 360 software application and do not have sufficient knowledge of the
application as required to perform their job. They may have understanding of the guideline
requirements, but they do not yet know how to translate it into creating the actual label for market
medical devices.
Problem Background and Causes
The FDA developed UDI in order to better track medical devices manufactured in the United States. It
was signed into law on Septebmer 27, 2007 as a part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
Amendments of 2007 (FDA, 2007). The law is recognized as a significant addition to overall FDA
authority, and as a result medical devices companies must implement the guidance to maintain
compliance with U.S. FDA, or be ordered to cease all operations. The organizations must prepare and
train personnel relative to the production labeling process in order to ensure product being sold is in
compliance. Because the employees are not yet trained on the proper usage is a concern to the
company if they are to meet the deadline for total compliance. The deadline as set forth by the FDA is
a phased in schedule between 2014 2020. The PRISYM 360 solution is UDI compliant, and the
instruction will allow the organizations employees to

Gold Coast Drivers Research Paper
Lauren Foster 18400834 EDC171 Teachers inquiring about the world How can Gold Coast drivers
contribute to the sustainability of the Great Barrier Reef whilst in traffic congestion? I am concerned
by the amount of harmful carbon emissions being produced into the atmosphere by my vehicle, whilst
idling in heavy traffic congestion on the Gold Coast. As a Queensland resident, I am aware of the rich
natural ecosystems within the state, particularly the Great Barrier Reef. Situated along the Queensland
coastline, the Great Barrier Reef stretches 2,300km from the north of Bundaberg to the tip of Northern
Queensland, making it the largest living structure in the world (Zell, 2012). My carbon emissions are

This document specifically highlights how the Gold Coast City Council is tackling the city s issue of
traffic congestion by improving the existing structure of the roads and public transport. Hopefully this
will decrease the number vehicles on the road which will reduce the amount of carbon emissions into
the atmosphere (City of Gold Coast, 2013). A Peer reviewed journal, Estimation of Carbon Footprint
of Fuel Loss Due to Idling of Vehicles at Signalised Intersection in Delhi confirmed my concerns
relating to carbon emissions whilst idling in traffic congestion by providing the calculation of the
amount of carbon emissions produced by average car using petrol. CO2 emissions from a gallon of
gasoline = 2,421 grams x 0.99 x (44/12) = 8,788 grams = 8.8 kg/gallon = 19.4 pounds/gallon or litre
equivalent CO2 emissions from a gallon of diesel = 2,778 grams x 0.99 x (44/12) = 10,084 grams =
10.1 kg/gallon = 22.2 pounds/gallon or litre equivalent (Bhandaria, Paridab, and Singh 2013). Further
investigation includes research into what alternative economical vehicles are available from vehicle
manufacturers and to source more statistics relating to carbon emissions and ocean

Panselectionism Vs Pluralism
I am reminded of learning that when air rushes out of a flat tire, it isn t being squeezed out, it is merely
not being completely contained and the kinetics of matter in the gas phase are sufficient to allow the
tire to deflate to equilibrium with the atmosphere. At first this seemed like a linguistic matter and
mostly irrelevant. For most people it is a completely irrelevant nuance, but not for physicists and
chemists who are using the principles of effusion to separate isotopes of radioactive uranium.
Similarly, while a discussion regarding the difference between panselectionism and pluralism will
sedate most readers into a state of drooling submission, the critique issued by Gould and Lewontin
should be considered carefully by evolutionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several alternatives to panselectionism are presented and are generally all a variation on the neutral
theory of molecular evolution (printing should pend inquiry regarding the lack of credit to Motoo
Kimura for development of said theory). This hypothesis proposes that random genetic drift plays a
dominant role in genetic evolution with selection playing a minor supporting role. In the section titled
Telling Stories, the authors criticize scientists who ignore and/or marginalize the more likely
explanation of neutral theory in favor of the archaic approach of justifying every identifiable
characteristic of an organism as beneficial and inventing an often completely untestable hypothesis for
its utility. I heartily agree with this objection I have long felt that the field of evolutionary biology is
weakened every time the phrase over millions of years is uttered (and it is uttered far beyond the point
of cliché), and every time a biologist duplicitously represents that selection happens without values
and judgment (of course), and then proceeds to describe the various features in terms of survival value
and utility. As the authors point out, the mere existence of a good fit between organism and
environment is insufficient evidence for inferring the action of natural selection (593). Finally, the
authors invoke Darwin himself in order to remind readers that He was patently pluralist and bristled at
being portrayed as a panselectionist although as Gould and Lewontin note, we do not now regard all
of Darwin s subsidiary mechanisms as significant or even valid

Decentralization In The Caterpillar Company
Caterpillar (CAT) has become the industry leader in earth moving machinery for several reasons.
However, a sole reason for the company s success is the patent for their farm treads (Kotler, Keller
395). If CAT failed to trademark these treads, they would have never received the advantages resulting
from their contract with the Army in the mid 20th century. This relationship helped CAT build their
brand equity, all while gaining market share. Besides the trademark, the company s restructuring in the
1990 s helped CAT to manage its sales, profits, and losses. According to Chron, decentralizing
improves a company s decision making process because managers have greater authority and control
(Joseph). Furthermore, the managers will begin to evaluate each decision thoroughly since the
outcome reflects directly back on them. Moreover, decentralization is a primary reason why CAT was
able to bounce back from the 1980 s recession. Decentralization constructs separate business units
which encourages each organization to assume responsibility for their actions (Joseph). The
individualized organizations allow managers to adapt their strategies to the varying market
environments. In other words, managers have the authority to react appropriately to different
environmental situations, as well as, allows them to respond in a timely fashion. Furthermore, CAT
investing in research and development has contributed greatly to the company s success. The

Effective Communication in Healthcare
Effective communication regardless if it is a personal or business situation it is important because it
allows us to have the necessary understanding of the person and the situation so a proper resolution
can be reached. With the proper communication in place trust can be established, respect will be
added, environment that support creative ideas, affection, problem solving and caring can grow.
Unfortunately communication sounds simple but most of the time communication between individuals
is misinterpreted which in turns causes serious conflict and frustration among everyone involved. By
instilling effective communication in your everyday life will help you grow and connect with those
around your personal and professionally ( Help It Guide , n.d.).
Effective communication is about comprehending the emotions behind what is being discussed plus
the day to day exchanging of information. Effective communication can enhance relationships at
work, school, home, or any social situation by making your connection with others better and help you
work better as a team to make better decision and to solve problems. We also have to remember to
effective communication is combined with listening skills, nonverbal communication, managing our
stress, and recognize and comprehend your own emotions and the people you are talking to ( Help It

points.) Apart from any quantitative analysis, are there any reasons to anticipate that Apache
Corporation s acquisition of MW Petroleum might be a positive net present value activity for Apache,
for Amoco? Explain. This looks like an attractive deal for both parties. Amoco does many things well,
but managing smaller, marginally productive oil and gas fields apparently isn t one of them. This is a
chance to unload some properties that because of their high cost structure, Amoco can t manage
profitably. Apache, on the other hand, has low costs and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The estimates of reserves and annual production figures were generated by independent petroleum
engineers (presumably paid by Amoco). The forecasts of direct costs are based primarily on Amoco s
historical experience, and projected overhead is based on amounts Amoco itself expects to save by
divesting MW. Recall, the basic premise of the transaction is that Apache can operate the fields more
efficiently than Amoco. Because such efficiencies have not yet been incorporated into the projections,
there is reason to believe the direct costs are overstated from Apache s perspective. Looking only at
the direct costs, their overstatement suggests that the resulting valuation may be biased low. If so, the
valuation will be below Apache s maximum acquisition price, and Apache could bid above this figure
and still generate a positive NPV. The valuation might be viewed more properly as Amoco s
reservation price, below which it should not sell. 3. (20 points.) Exhibits 3 7 contain cash flow
projections for MW Petroleum. To what extent do these numbers represent free cash flows suitable for

Political influences mainly affect Starbucks through government imposed minimum wage
fluctuations. Their workers are trained to perform few tasks such as coffee making, food preparation
and cashiering. With such few job functions, there is hardly a need for highly experienced or educated
employees. This would allow Starbucks to pay their workers at minimum wage or just slightly higher,
making Starbucks very sensitive towards increasing the minimum wage of their workers as that would
increase labour costs. Other political influences that can affect Starbucks profits are regulatory and
licensing restriction, government rent control, tax base determination and labor laws.
The increasing demand of food and beverage services causes Starbucks rapid economic environment
growth. Starbucks greatest concern is its relationship with its coffee bean producers. Nations
producing coffee are influential on coffee purchasing companies. This is because coffee is the world s
second largest traded supply, and prices of coffee beans are being subject to significant market
volatility. Starbucks demands for premium green coffee beans, resulting in irregular pricing and are
usually sold at negotiated prices. Starbucks greatest concern is that the producers would ally and
artificially make the coffee prices inflate (Diedrich, 1999).

Figure 9: Kosovo Commercial Banks Deposits and Loans: December 2009 February 2015 Source:

Adding the New Kosovo Power Plant to the commercial loan levels of Kosovo s banking institutions
would increase loan levels from €2.08 billion to €3.0 billion, pushing the loan to deposit ratio over
100 percent. This one transaction would increase macroeconomic risk for the country. First, it would
concentrate risk in an economy that is small and is already struggling with risk diversification.
Second, it would exceed the standard set by independent bank examiners to maintain an 80 percent
loan to deposit ratio. Third, it would add to political tensions in the country on a range of issues
related to domestic and foreign banking. Fourth, it is likely to place credit constraints on other sectors
at a time when the private economy is vulnerable; according to the World Bank, the current growth
model for private development in Kosovo is already unsustainable.

How Opponents to Gay Marriage Offer Illusory Arguments
How Opponent to Gay Marriage offer Illusory Arguments
The book The Invisible Gorilla: How Our Intuitions Deceive Us by Chabris and Simons truly makes a
strong case for how six different types of illusions (or beliefs) truly disserve the human population.
The six common illusions that the book discusses are the illusion of memory, the illusion of
confidence, the illusion of knowledge, the illusion of cause and the illusion of potential. Chabris and
Simon argue that one can see these illusions at work in a range of human interactions and current
events. Sometimes these illusions demonstrate the fallibility of the human mind; sometimes they just
demonstrate the need of human beings to impose meaning or order upon things or events which lack
both.
A current issue that demonstrates several of the six illusions that Chabris and Simons discuss is the
debate over gay marriage. Those who oppose gay marriage often demonstrate an argument which is
full of illusory and shoddy ideas. For example, one of the main arguments against gay marriage is that
allowing homosexuals to marry will destroy the institution of marriage. This demonstrates the illusion
of cause. The illusion of cause arises when we see patterns in randomness, and we are most likely to
see patterns when we think we understand what is causing them (Chabris Simons, p.155). The work of
Stanley Kurtz tried to prove that allowing same sex marriage in Denmark, Norway and Sweden
decreased the rate of heterosexual marriage

Textbooks Vs Textbooks
How many countries are in the world, can dogs eat strawberries, what is the largest building in South
America? These are all great questions that can easily be researched on an iPad. Recent studies show
that as of 2016 43 percent of Americans read online books, magazines, or newspapers. The idea of
tablets in the classroom is supported by teachers and students around the country. They believe that
tablets would be more effective for learning purposes and improve standardized testing. In the U.S
over 8 billion dollars are spent on outdated textbooks each year. Replacing textbooks with tablets will
benefit students in and outside the classroom.
The K 12 system has shown that switching to tablets instead of textbooks will lower the cost spent on
outdated textbooks by $250 $1000 a year per student. The textbook industry is made up of three
companies: McGraw Hill, Pearson, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. With all companies combined
schools pay around $8 billion a year on textbooks that students do not want to carry nor read.
Opposing sides believe that the cost of an electronic tablet will substantially exceed the price of a
textbook. However, tablets are constantly decreasing in price, making them for more affordable that a
single textbook. The average electronic tablet cost $295 where the average textbook cost anywhere
from $350 $800. iPads would also save money in the long run by reducing printing and textbook

Easter Island
Easter Island I was born today. My bones quarried at Rano Raraku near the northeast end of my
homeland, Easter Island. My makers were small, with deep tawny skin that gleamed with moisture
under the sun as they carved the gentle curves of my body. As I lay among the rock, an unmoving
piece of stone that stretched across the land to the creatures that constructed me, I observed the
thriving life around me. I was surrounded by trees, some whose unbranched bodies shot into the
vibrant sky, their silky, lively leaves dancing in the warm wind that swept over me. Down at my laying
level, grew a variety of small, round, leafy, thin, and sweet smelling plants, sprouting from the land
like gifts sent from the fertile soil. From the moment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which happily swam around the island. And each night, I would watch these boats, like a heard of
hungry savages, charge towards the shore with their slaughtered fish thrown in a heap, ready to be
feasted on by the islanders. I was no longer the only one of my kind. Hundreds of others lined the
shore. Some were taller, others much smaller, each with differently carved facial features, some even

Why People Fail At Weight Loss
Losing weight is a struggle. So many of us are overweight and look to all sorts of weight loss methods
in order to lose the extra pounds. Still, the vast majority of people on diets fail at losing that weight.
More often than not, they even gain it all back, plus more! What makes us fail so often? Even people
who are normally so responsible and motivated tend to fail at this endeavor. In order to be motivated
to do something and see it through to the end, there needs to be a balance between work put in, and the
reward you get from that work. The main reason that most people fail at weight loss is because the
hard work usually vastly outweighs the outcome. You could eat right and exercise for weeks and only
lose a few pounds. Such small progress ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel like I cannot stop eating. I have lost ALMOST 30 pounds and I am slowly starting to put it back
on again. I have been feeling kinda bad about myself lately, and with that comes comforting myself
with food. I know that if I get to the gym, that will help, but mentally, I have fallen off the weight loss
wagon really hard and need to pull myself back up on it again. It s easier said than done. I was
thinking about doing a fast today and just re centering myself again. Saying some prayers and reading
my Bible to get my head back in the game. I give all the glory to God for my loss so far, because
without Him, I couldn t do this. I honestly do not have the will power. Why does food hold such
power over some of us? I look at people on television or even people out in public that are thin. I am
insanely jealous. What must that be like to be thin? I ve never known what it feels like. What must it
be like to not let your life revolve around food? To not always think about what can I eat next? or I
should invite a friend to dinner so I can eat something yummy. My mindset is just all wrong and I don
t know how to change that. I don t know why food comforts me, but it does. It makes me feel good for
about two minutes. I get lost in the flavors and the feeling of endless chewing. Usually when I eat a
high fat meal, I feel like crap when it s all done. Why can t I remember that feeling? Why doesn t that
sit with me in my mind? I hate the way I look. My body disgusts me. I don t understand how my
husband can want me, but he does. I m totally blessed by him. He thinks I m the most beautiful
woman in the world. I get depressed really easily, and I think it s because I ve been eating so badly.
Have you ever noticed that when your diet gets bad, your mentality takes a huge downfall? I do. I m
going grocery shopping today and my goal is to buy everything healthy. Lots of fruits and veggies and
chicken. I think another problem is that I m getting bored with

Jorge Luis Borges Irony
The writing styles of Edgar Allen Poe and Jorge Luis Borges are very in sync when it comes to literary
devices such as irony, imagery, setting and so on. In many of their stories, the authors demonstrate
their extraordinary technique through the short story The Purloined Letter written by Poe and The
Garden of Forking Paths written by Borges. Piquing the readers mind and causing a sensation of awe
at the end their story, they entice the reader to experience a whole new world of literature, forcing the
reader to scrutinize the text in a manner, in which a pedestrian reader would find complex. These

Romeo and Juliet
Explain how you would direct a section of Act 3 scene 5 of Romeo and Juliet for a modern audience.
In your answer you should focus on how Juliet would be presented in this scene and how the scene
would be acted?
Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play, which embodies the true spirit of love and destiny. The play shows
fate, premonition, violence and vengeance while two lovers pine for each other. It shows how love can
be over powering which would supersede all other values and loyalties. Lovers are forced to dissent
their entire social world, e.g. when Romeo leaves his friends to see Juliet and when Juliet says that she

The way royal families lived in China was very similar to the way the Capulets and Montagues lived,
as there were always rivals e.g. one royal family of a country against another and the Capulets against
the Montagues. The living lifestyle of China was very conservative. Women were not treated equal,
they were segregated from society, and they did not have the privilege to vote, work in a high position
etc. Women were undermined and were controlled by men [father, brother/s and husbands ]. They
were forbidden to talk in public or in the presence of men; they were merely present to obey with what
the men demanded. The way women were portrayed then was similar to how Lady Capulet was
treated by her husband. From the way Lady Capulet reacted to certain situations we could tell that she

Environmental Changes In Judaism
In November of 2015 the Roman Catholic, Islamic, and Buddhist religious traditions all produced
statements sharing the same belief: Climate Change is a major concern (http://gbccc.org). The
Buddhist tradition has been supporting the protection of the planet for decades (http://gbccc.org).
Understanding the principles of the Buddhist tradition helps to explain why Buddhists have been early
advocates of environmentalism. Throughout Buddhist countries there have been large movements to
create environmental change, and Buddhists leaders hope that Buddhism continues to disseminate
environmental change around the world.

Muslim Women Of Pakistan, By Tehmina Durrani s My Feudal...
A society that operates with male dominated ideologies and mechanisms contributes to the
disempowerment and subjugation of woman. This paper studies predicament of Muslim wives in
society of Pakistan through institution of marriage as depicted in Tehmina Durrani s My Feudal Lord,
an autobiographical narrative. The publication of My Feudal Lord received many awards and made it
exceptional and extraordinary literary work, which surfaces the issues of Muslim women of Pakistan,
and is still relevant as it contributes to the feminist cause. The book is a painful account of a woman s
traumatic marriage in Pakistan, who suffers in silence for thirteen years and then decides to come out
of the life of abuse and humiliation. It also highlights the hidden agency of a woman that has the
potential to expose and challenge a male dominated society. Durrani s courage, resistance and mighty
pen become agents for change. These agents, along with exposition of assumed authority of
debauchery and superiority of male culture assist her in dismantling established societal pattern of
marriage. The process of evolution encourages her to reflect on the woes of other women in Pakistani
society and the ways to counter violence, inequality and isolation in feudal trap. The paper
demonstrates concerns like inequality, violence and male dominance and argues that despite caught in
a patriarchal trap woman with her conviction and female agency finds a way to be heard and asserts

Marketing On Christmas Gift Exchange And Asymmetrical...
This paper looks at the gift giving tradition between the Natives and the Europeans. Carlos and Lewis
s Marketing in the Land of Hudson Bay article explains in great detail the strategies used by the
Hudson Bay Company to develop a trading relationship with the Natives, as well as the trends in
trading. The article also elucidates that in order to understand its customer s culture and demands, the
Hudson Bay Company participated in Native traditions one of which was to present gifts to Native
traders before the actual trading. As the importance of this tradition is emphasized in the article as well
as the data presented, this paper aims to explore the influence of receiving gifts on trade between the
two parties. Gift exchange is a common practice among many countries and many professions. The
economists look at gifts as an incentive to increase productivity. This theory is tested and proved in the
following two articles.
The article Regarding gifts on Christmas gift exchange and asymmetrical business relations by
Jeannette Lemmergaard, and Sara Louise Muhr, focuses on the impression the company gifts can
make on the business partners during Christmas. The authors argue that corporate gift exchange
between business partners at Christmas is an attempt to build personal relationships, as a gift
represents social and cultural value than just the economic value. The article extensively investigates
the regard and obligation phenomenon, which is explained in the article as:

The Significance of Edward Hyde s Character in The Strange...
The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novel written by Scottish author Robert Louis
Stevenson and published in 1886. It concerns a lawyer, Gabriel Utterson, who investigates the strange
occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the reclusive Mr. Edward Hyde. This novel
represents an ideology in Western culture; the perpetual conflict between humanity s virtuosity and
immorality. It is interpreted as an accurate guidebook to the Victorian era s belief of the duality of
human nature. This essay will explore Mr. Edward Hyde and whether Stevenson intended for him to
be a mere character in the novel or something of wider significance. Enfield is the first to come across

This suggests that Hyde is a strange man. Stevenson uses this powerful description to convey and
portray a man who comes across as mysterious and dangerous. Stevenson makes him more mystifying
when Enfield continues, I can t describe him. And it s not want of memory; for I declare I can see him
this moment. (Page 15) This immediately brings a sense of a man with deformities that can t be
described. Stevenson uses this to confuse the reader and amplify the sense of foreboding. Surely when
one can see somebody in their mind, they can describe how they look and describe their deformities
especially? Not being able to describe Hyde shows that he isn t a normal human; he s something far
more inhumane. Utterson meets Hyde when Hyde is trying to go through the door where the novel
started. After talking very briefly with Hyde, Mr. Utterson gets the impression that Hyde prefers the
solitude as he quickly unlocks the door to enter. This time the reader gets an accurate account of how
Hyde looks like. Mr. Hyde was pale and dwarfish (Page 23) is the initial line to the description. This
could create the sense that Hyde is malnourished and still not fully formed yet. He gave an impression
of deformity without any namable malformation (Page 23) reinforces the idea that Hyde had a
deformity that couldn t be described. Even though Utterson just met Hyde, he is indescribable which
creates the notion that Hyde looks different from

Examples Of Persona Of The Masses In The Great Gatsby
Persona of the Masses On weekends his Rolls Royce became an omnibus bearing parties to and from
the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a
brisk yellow bug to meet all trains (39). Certainly, few knew the authentic Jay Gatsby from the novel
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. People thought they could fathom him, but countless were
fabricated lies. Copious amounts of people in our society progress through life like this also. Never
showing who they genuinely are because of shame or even fear of not being accepted by others.
Gatsby represents in our society, how people put on a persona to be likeable to the masses.
Gatsby was a household name around New York at the time of the era in the book. Everyone knew of
his extravagant parties and his mansion, of sorts. By midnight the hilarity had increased. A celebrated
tenor had sung in Italian, and a notorious contralto had sung in jazz, and between the numbers people
were doing stunts all over the garden, while happy, vacuous bursts of laughter rose toward the summer
sky (46). The parties threw by Gatsby were a rage, he threw all theses flashy parties just so maybe,
Daisy would come and she would notice how rich he is. In society now people try to obtain all the
new clothes, cars, the newest iPhone even. We ve been taught if you don t have all theses things then
you won t be accepted. An outcast, and you don t want that right? So we have accomplished theses

A Report On The Company s Welcome Back At Underwriting A...
Welcome back. Last week we looked at underwriting a $250K high yield transaction through the eyes
of an independent lessor. Our existing customer, RedBet LLC, had properly paid off two short term
leases with us, leaving us a small exposure on a third lease (total exposure had been $320K). RedBet
is now coming back to finance of $250K in vacuum tank trailers, a sale that is very important to our
preferred vendor. RedBet is an oilfield servicing firm headquartered in New Mexico. We asked, Would
you do this deal? Why or why not?
As much as we appreciate our lessee, we know that it s even more important for us to value our
preferred vendor. With the oil business in decline and our vendor needing to close every sale, this
transaction may make or break our relationship with the vendor (who we think could find another
funding source to do this deal). In spite of the oil industry downturn, we want to retain this vendor
relationship because (a) the vendor is also offering us high quality non oilfield transactions, (b) the
cyclical oil business will eventually come back, (c) this vendor s originations have been very
profitable for us (high yield and excellent performance−so far), (d) we don t have a concentration in
oilfield exposures, and (e) good vendor relationships like this are hard to develop.
In addition, with a yield 17%, the transaction could generate substantial income for us. So instead of
categorically declining this oil industry transaction, we look for a way to get

A Brief Note On Health Insurance And Insurance Essay
While on the topic of insurance, I will also need to start putting diverting some of my income to cover
health insurance, possibly disability insurance and even life insurance. I currently have an HMO plan
through Blue Cross Blue Shield of TX and the rates are astronomical. Health insurance is one of the
key factors I am using as I am looking for long term employment. Since I am a student, there are not
many individual insurance policies available so I am forced to pay extremely steep monthly rates, but
am hopeful that the health insurance offered through my future employer will allow me to receive
access to better doctors at a lower overall price. Just as auto insurance and renter s/home insurance is
needed to help offset the costs of accidents that may occur, the cost of not having health insurance is
much higher than the rates I am currently paying so not having insurance is not an option (not to
mention without health insurance, you now receive a fine.) I also would like to receive disability
insurance through my employer to cover lost income as a result of an accident, or illness. Other
sources of disability insurance are available through social security, worker s compensation, and
private insurance companies, but as I stated, I would accept these benefits through my employer,
social security or worker s compensation but I am unlikely to purchase my own individual disability
policy. I currently do not have a life insurance policy as I have limited assets and zero

Business Impact Analysis
This is an essential organization s business component that composes of a continuance plan for the
firm (Hiles, 2002). This plan includes planning components that aid in developing strategies for
mitigating risks, and an exploratory component to indicate and identify any vulnerability.
In this analysis account, the researcher is going to discuss and subsequently describe methods for
establishing components priorities by determining components dependencies and reliance in both
business continuity and disaster recovery.

Work Recovery Time (WRT) this is the second phase of MTD, it happens mostly on the third day of
MTD.
Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) this is the system recovery time, it is the available time to recover
disrupted resources and systems.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO) this is the extent or amount of data loss that a critical business
system can tolerate.
The above are the recovery time framework that will assist in calculating the time and form through
which a business will evolve before collapsing (Hiles, 2002).
To do a business impact analysis, the element of component dependency arises. Components
dependencies are the interdependency between the exploratory components and the planning
components. With the planning component, the organization will dwell much on the minimizing and
mitigating the risks that will lead to business disruption, while the exploratory component will dwell
so much on discovering and identification of vulnerable areas within the business. Their dependency
is as important as the two areas. For an organization to mitigate the risks, it should be aware of the
areas that are more vulnerable to risks, and if an organization identifiers the risk then it will have to
look for ways to reduce its occurrence or the impacts. Mostly the planning happens after the
exploratory component (Cardoza, 2006).

401 Plan Should Not Be The Retirement Options
Employer matched 401k plan should not be the only retirement options people have its one of a few.
Company pensions are almost a thing of the past many companies are doing away with this benefit
due to cost associated with maintaining this plan. Today most people don t even stay at a job longer
than five years, with this type of turnaround it would make it that much more costly to an organization
to maintain this benefit. The key to addressing the retirement needs of your employees it to educate
them. By providing educational retirement workshops the employee will be better equip in making
informed decisions about retirement. We all know it s never early to plan for retirement the earlier the
better. Young people as young as twenty should have a retirement plan already under way, when you
are educated and informed you put yourself in a better position in the long run. As the HR professional
in charge of informing the employees I would have a meeting broken into groups by departments. At
the meeting I will explain our company s retirement options company wide. Literature should be
distributed explaining the plan how it works and what to expect when that time comes. Keeping the
lines of communication open with the employees is essential; the employee should understand fully all
aspects of the employer sponsored retirement plans.

The Poverty Of Poverty And Poverty
There are so many Americans living in poverty today, and the number of those living in poverty will
probably only go up from here. What s even more disheartening is that a lot of the poverty stricken
families include young children. America is considered one of the richest nations in the world, and
that we are so much better off than other countries. While it may be true, I beg to ask the question of
why are so many of our fellow brothers and sisters living in poverty? For those of us who are fortunate
to be able to afford the basics of things go about our lives without thinking about not being able to pay
for basic needs, we don t even realize that a lot of the people we come into contact with are probably
poor. Most often when we do think of poor, we picture of the images of the children in Africa with no
clean water or no food at all, when really that is not the case. Some families do not have enough food
to feed their children, or make just enough to pay the basic bills and have little money for food.
Poverty is defined as the state or condition of having not enough money, goods, or any means of
support for oneself. Statistics say that at least 16 % of Americans are living below the poverty line.
Poverty is considered as one of America s leading problems. What is important to note is that a lot of
those people living in poverty actually have jobs. They just do not make enough money to be able to
afford health care, food, clothes, and barley their homes. a quarter

was the development of a vaccine for polio. To test the vaccine the cells were quickly put into mass
production in the first ever cell production factory. Another enormous breakthrough was the successful
cloning of human cells in 1955. Demand for the HeLa cells grew quickly. Since they were put into
mass production, Henrietta s cells have been mailed to scientists around the globe from research into
cancer, AIDS, the effects of radiation and toxic substances, gene mapping, and countless other
scientific pursuits. (Smith, 2002, Wonder Woman: The Life, Death, and Life After Death of Henrietta
Lacks, Unwitting Heroine of Modern Medical Science .) HeLa cells have been used to test human
sensitivity to tape, glue, cosmetics, and many other products. Scientists have grown some 20 tons of
her cells, and there are almost 11,000 patents involving HeLa cells. (Batts, 2010) Neither Lacks nor
her family gave her physician permission to harvest the cells. At that same time, however, permission
was neither required nor usually sought. (Washington, 1994) In the early 1970 s, the family of

if Susan is willing to go with him. He sympathetically takes Susan and her daughter in in order to care
and protect the two girls from to Henchard s drunkenness and irrational behavior. While Newson is
gone at sea, Susan and their daughter, the second Elizabeth Jane, fear the worst and believe he has
died at sea. This turn of events causes Susan to seek out Henchard after realizing she was never

was lost at sea, Susan and Elizabeth Jane Newson return to Wessex in order to reconnect with
Henchard, only to find out from the furmity woman that Henchard is now the successful mayor of
Casterbridge. When Susan sees the life Henchard has made for himself without her, she wishes not to

regains a marriage with Henchard and due to knowone knowing the truth about her and Henchards
past, the locals in Casterbridge see Susan as a delayed choice in a wife for Henchard. Susan is said to
be pale, simple, and fragile with residents calling her The Ghost due to her sickly appearance. The
people of Casterbridge do not respect Susan as a suitable wife for their mayor and believe Henchard
married below him saying things like, Never seen a man wait so long for so little. Susan s purpose in

Elizabeth Jane, Henchard tries to make a better life for himself to undue all the guilt he feels. When he

for to try to make up for the misery he must have caused them. If Susan had not agreed to go with
Newson the sailor the day at the fair, Hechard would not have vowed to stop drinking for the next 20
years which ultimately gave him a new perspective and new start at life. The two agree to not tell
Elizabeth the truth about their past because if she knew Elizabeth Jane would suffer

Ad Libitum Observation Essay
After I conducted the first two hours of research using the Ad libitum sampling method, I had fifty
eight different observations for this particular segment. My data is attached to the back of this
document, if you wish to read through each of my comments and how often I recorded. To make it
easier to read I typed up my observations and data into excel. In order to make it easier to analyze I
created a general activity column on my spreadsheet. Which then I used to create a pie chart I called
Ad Libitum Data, which I used to analyze how Bambio spent her time. During this two hour segment
of my observations she spent 17% of the time eating, 22% of the time resting, 38% of the time
sleeping, 18% of the time travelling, and 5% doing other behaviors. ... Show more content on

Each of them gave an accurate account of the events. The Ad libitum data is very detailed and
accounts for every single action I witnessed. It goes into way more detail than my Focal Animal
Instantaneous data. The Focal Animal Instantaneous had a comments column but I used this to right a
brief account of the behavior for each time stamp. While the Ad libitum goes into far more detail. This
is a good thing, but it also could be a bad thing. It makes it much more difficult to analyze, than that of
focal animal instantaneous. The Focal data is much more easy to enter into a chart and tally up, due to
it only recording certain elements, which made it much easier to create charts to analyze it. Where as
with Ad libitum I had to really pick out the general behavior from each entry, and it took a lot more
work just to get a graphical representation. This method would be best if you were looking for an in
depth account of the behavior being witnessed. Whereas it maybe a bit harder to analyze it will give
you a more accurate account. Focal animal instantaneous on the other hand is a much more
streamlined method, which would help you to generalize behavior and make things much easier to
analyze. Neither method is really better, but they are different and serve different

Essay on Hamdi et al. v. Rumsfeld
Hamdi et al. v. Rumsfeld
Hamdi et al. v. Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense, et al. could prove the undoing of the Bush
administration s legal defense of the abuses at Guantanamo Bay. In this case, four British citizens are
suing Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld as well as a host of Army and Air Force Generals and
policy apparatchiks for allegedly authorizing the use of torture in Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay.
The four were captured in Afghanistan, either by Americans or America s ally, the Northern Alliance,
and transported to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba where they were held for over two years. Their status
there was not as enemy combatant, which guaranteed them certain protections under the Geneva
Convention, but rather as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No criminal charges can be filed. This little know statute, passed as part of the Judiciary Act of 1789
reads thus:
That the district courts shall have.... cognizance, concurrent with the courts of the several States, or the
circuit courts, as the case may be, of all causes where an alien sues for a tort only in violation of the
law of nations or a treaty of the United States.
The Alien Tort Statute had been used a mere 21 times since the law was passed in 1789. The courts
have upheld jurisdiction for only two of those cases. But the results of Filartiga v. Pena Irala (1980)
have changed everything. In this case the court upheld jurisdiction and finally found guilty a
Paraguayan ex police officer for torture and murder of Joelito Filartiga. Pena Irala, the Paraguayan ex
officer, was about to be deported from the U.S. Filartiga s family in America contacted human rights
activist and lawyer Peter Weiss, requesting that he find some way to prosecute Pena Irala before he
was deported back to Paraguay where he would be safe from prosecution. Weiss had to be creative and
be quick about it; only three days were left before the deportation.
His idea, to use the Alien Tort Statute as a human rights tool, had no precedent and was a long shot.
How could he convince an American court to accept jurisdiction over an event that happened in

Deere Company has a high expectation of the increase in profit in the future with several perspectives.
First, they expect the increases in demand for the agricultural industry because of the increase of total
population around the world, especially in the Asian and Africa regions. Thus, they expanded the
plants in China, India, and Latin America, where the middle class population is getting larger. Second,
they expect the increases of urbanization in the developing countries, where to require the
development of infrastructures in those countries. The population in the urban area is expected to
increase from 50 percent in 2014 to 70 percent at the end of 2050. (Gamble, Peteraf, Thompson, 2015,
p. 367). However, it has been just a forecast. In fact, the unexpected situation occurred. The declines
of agricultural industry demand in 2015. The net farm industry income declined to $73.6 billion,
which is about 32 percent declines in 2015. It has been the lowest number since 2009. (U.S.

Great Companies Moral Responsibility In Good To Great
In the book Good to Great, the author discusses how the great companies address the issue of rigor in
the hiring process using three practical disciplines. Having the right people in the right position is one
of the key aspects of having a great company. When a company is attempting to go from good to great
these disciplines are needed to head down that path to greatness. The first is when in doubt, don t hire.
Great companies do not settle or hire just to fill an open position. They take the time to interview and
constantly look until the find the person that best fits the position and the company s needs. Hiring the
wrong person can waste valuable time and money that could have been better used. The second
discipline is when you know

The Invisible Boundary Analysis
The Invisible Boundary The main point of this chapter was to show the reader or the students how
much the life of the human being is affected by privilege. Even though everyone say that you get to
what you want because of how hard you work. After reading this chapter, I learned that it is also the
privileges that you have is what helps you to get what you want or achieve your goal. Moreover,
having privileges or being a part of a majority group rather than a minor group makes life a little
easier. This chapter taught be that not all the privileged people are racist. In the chapter, Jim was
white, tall male, he got football scholarships to go to college. Being a white tall male is a privilege. It
made it so easy for Jim to work hard and get to higher potions in his career and make more money.
When there could have been a white woman or a Black male that work as hard as Jim but did not get
higher positions or higher payment as Jim. From the reading, I understood that it is difficult for non
privilege people to be where Jim is at. Because they are not as privileged as Jim. Privilege people
would have to work twice or more than twice as hard than privileged people to show their leaders or
bosses that they are capable of being in charge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, there is no a set definition of being privileges or not. I can be privileged in the United States of
America and go somewhere else and be not privileged at all. Furthermore, sometimes people fall into
the idea of deserving or not. In the reading, it was mention that people fades away from the idea of I
am privileged so I got this job and drift toward I deserve this job . The privileged people view the non
privileged people as they do not deserve the job in this case. Which is not true and I did not think
about it from this point of view

Uniforms in Schools Don t Make Sense
Imagine you walk into school and everyone is wearing the same jeans, same striped scarf and the same
hairstyle. Dont you want to stand out? Be yourself?Wentzville School District should not have
uniforms but what s happening now is that we are voting on uniforms and a dress code is getting
stricker. We can t show our shoulders, no tanks etc. People that are involved, the school
administrators, teachers, students, parents. I think we shouldn t have school uniforms because it doesn t
give us to be unique and our own style,it cost money some families can t afford these things, you can
still get bullied. One reason we shouldn t have uniforms doesn t give us to be unique and our own
style, we would all have to wear the same thing. It stops us from showing their unique side and
expressing themselves in ways uniforms can t. (www.debate.ur/opinions/doesimposeing school
uniforms prevent students fromshowing unique.) Being able to express yourself and dress the way you
like is everything to me. I know I would be tempted to wear my cute clothes rather than my uniform.
Gillian Sanford from Frontier Middle School said, I don t like going to school knowing that everyone
is going to wear the same thing. I would also get tired of wearing the same thing everyday. Uniforms
don t give anyway to express yourself, it would take away one of the few things that students can
choose in school. says Justin Qualley from Frontier Middle School. Another reason why we shouldn t

The Transformation by Mary Shelley
What does a person think holds the most influence; the mistake itself or the actions that fallow after
seeing the daylight of their mistakes? Will the mistakes be left to suffer in silence or will that person
submit to their fatalities in a humble manner? In the short story Transformation by Mary Shelley, the
main character Guido recalls his life story and admits all the horrible mistakes he made, despite his
shame and embarrassment. He s a young man who was desperately in love with Juliet; although he
was an arrogant and selfish man who disregarded Juliet s feelings. Even after he realized he had lost
Juliet forever, a dwarf convinces him revenge is the adequate reaction. So, Guido trades his
appearance and life for the Dwarf s riches. Guido believes that in order to exact revenge on Juliet and
her father he needs money; the catch is this exchange will only last for three days. When he sees the
Dwarf inside his own body, he realizes his own faults and his selfless act in response re paid his debt
in the end. The moral lesson of Transformation by Mary Shelley is that making a mistake is not the
biggest issue; what you do once you realize where you went wrong is what matters. The author
developed this moral through conflict and characterization. Mary Shelley use Guido s inside war as a
conflict in her short story Transformation to help support the moral lesson that making a mistake isn t
what truly matters. It is your reaction from your mistake and what you learn

  • 2. Dred Scott Decision Essay Around the 1850 s, tension between the Northern states and the Southern states was rising. The issue of slavery was a conflict that greatly contributed to this tension. The Northern and Southern people had very different views on slavery. Most of the Northern people thought that slavery was wrong, while the Southern people thought that slavery was justified. During this time, a court case filed by a black slave against his white slave master occurred and it widened the gap between them even more. The idea of a black man suing for his freedom was ridiculous to most of the Southern people. My second paragraph is about Dred Scott s life. It will mostly be about his life before the case. Harriet and Dred had two sons who died during infancy and two daughters, Eliza and Lizzie. In 1842, the Emersons and the Scotts returned to St. Louis, (The Life of Dred Scott). Dred s residency in the Upper Louisiana Territory and Illinois gave him the right to become free, but at this time he did not know his rights. When John died in 1843, his widow hired him out to an army captain. While under the Army captain s command, he tried to find freedom for his family. When Mrs. Emerson refused his offer of three hundred dollars for their freedom, he decided to take legal action, (Dred Scott s fight for freedom). These legal actions led to a series of long legal battles. The Blow brothers provided the Scott Family with legal and finical help for court. In 1847, Dred Scott first went to trial to sue for his freedom, (Dred Scott s fight for freedom). While the immediate issue in this case was Dred Scott s status, the court also had the opportunity to rule on the question of slavery in the territories, (Appleby et all, 446 447). One of the main issues of this case was that the justices were trying to settle a political problem rather than being completely fair in their decisions. Dred lost the first trial but was granted a second trial. The next year the Missouri Supreme Court decided that the case should be retried, (Dred Scott s fight for freedom). • 3. The Censorship Of The Media Despite Trump s obvious bigotry and objectively harmful policies, he has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the face of the Republican Party in the 2015 elections. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party s nominee, Hillary Clinton, faces a litany of allegations regarding her mishandling of classified information of an attack on an American embassy in a foreign nation. Many late night television hosts often joke that these two candidates are in a race that they should win because their opponent is quite obviously a terrible choice. And yet as Americans debate the the merits of these candidates, many other countries and their politics are disregarded. In a global economy, the ongoings of the world inform American policy and economics. Yet Americans remain ambivalent because other countries are not debated in the news. The news media implicitly apply filters to their coverage of news stories to inform the public thereby creating a narrative skewed by political or financial gain to influence their viewers. Because the media is privatized, it is difficult to recognize this propaganda system. Careful dissection of the time and space dedicated to each story covered by the anchors between networks and newspapers highlights this discrepancy. A cursory examination into ABC World News and NBC Nightly News reveals a conscious decision to dedicate increasing amounts of time to self identified feel good stories and minimize coverage of the civil unrest in Yemen, the Syrian refugee crisis, and the ... Everything that the Pardoner was saying and describing reminded me of the Evangelists of today of who travel from town to town and setup great big tents just to steal the money from good hard working people from the way the Pardoner has the same sermon practiced and rehearsed. Upon first reading, I have read this poem more than a few times, I jotted down some words that I had never heard of before, those being; Cuckold, Avarice, and Jakes. However, the Pardoner himself states For I ll have money, wool, and cheese, and wheat, though given by the poorest serving lad, or by the poorest widow in the place meaning that he would rather take from the starving and destitute than give up his creature comforts. In Flanders, there were three young hooligans who loved to amuse themselves by gambling, being rambunctious and drinking. The Pardoner goes into a speech of criticism about their sinful lives. Finally, after his long speech, the Pardoner reflects back onto the three young hooligans, who are drinking at the tavern when they hear the church bell signaling the sound of a passing coffin. A servant tells the group of travelers that the dead man was a friend of the three who had been stabbed in the night by a thief called Death . When fully implemented, the label for the majority of medical devices will contain a unique device identifier (UDI) in a human and machine readable (barcode) form (FDA 2017). They may have understanding of the guideline requirements, but they do not yet know how to translate it into creating the actual label for market medical devices. The law is recognized as a significant addition to overall FDA authority, and as a result medical devices companies must implement the guidance to maintain compliance with U.S. FDA, or be ordered to cease all operations. The organizations must prepare and train personnel relative to the production labeling process in order to ensure product being sold is in compliance. Because the employees are not yet trained on the proper usage is a concern to the company if they are to meet the deadline for total compliance. A Peer reviewed journal, Estimation of Carbon Footprint of Fuel Loss Due to Idling of Vehicles at Signalised Intersection in Delhi confirmed my concerns relating to carbon emissions whilst idling in traffic congestion by providing the calculation of the amount of carbon emissions produced by average car using petrol. Panselectionism Vs Pluralism I am reminded of learning that when air rushes out of a flat tire, it isn t being squeezed out, it is merely not being completely contained and the kinetics of matter in the gas phase are sufficient to allow the tire to deflate to equilibrium with the atmosphere. At first this seemed like a linguistic matter and mostly irrelevant. For most people it is a completely irrelevant nuance, but not for physicists and chemists who are using the principles of effusion to separate isotopes of radioactive uranium. Several alternatives to panselectionism are presented and are generally all a variation on the neutral theory of molecular evolution (printing should pend inquiry regarding the lack of credit to Motoo Kimura for development of said theory). This hypothesis proposes that random genetic drift plays a dominant role in genetic evolution with selection playing a minor supporting role. In the section titled Telling Stories, the authors criticize scientists who ignore and/or marginalize the more likely explanation of neutral theory in favor of the archaic approach of justifying every identifiable characteristic of an organism as beneficial and inventing an often completely untestable hypothesis for its utility. I heartily agree with this objection I have long felt that the field of evolutionary biology is weakened every time the phrase over millions of years is uttered (and it is uttered far beyond the point of cliché), and every time a biologist duplicitously represents that selection happens without values and judgment (of course), and then proceeds to describe the various features in terms of survival value and utility. As the authors point out, the mere existence of a good fit between organism and environment is insufficient evidence for inferring the action of natural selection (593). However, a sole reason for the company s success is the patent for their farm treads (Kotler, Keller 395). If CAT failed to trademark these treads, they would have never received the advantages resulting from their contract with the Army in the mid 20th century. This relationship helped CAT build their brand equity, all while gaining market share. Besides the trademark, the company s restructuring in the 1990 s helped CAT to manage its sales, profits, and losses. According to Chron, decentralizing improves a company s decision making process because managers have greater authority and control (Joseph). Furthermore, the managers will begin to evaluate each decision thoroughly since the outcome reflects directly back on them. Moreover, decentralization is a primary reason why CAT was able to bounce back from the 1980 s recession. Decentralization constructs separate business units which encourages each organization to assume responsibility for their actions (Joseph). The individualized organizations allow managers to adapt their strategies to the varying market environments. Apart from any quantitative analysis, are there any reasons to anticipate that Apache Corporation s acquisition of MW Petroleum might be a positive net present value activity for Apache, for Amoco? Explain. This looks like an attractive deal for both parties. Amoco does many things well, but managing smaller, marginally productive oil and gas fields apparently isn t one of them. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The estimates of reserves and annual production figures were generated by independent petroleum engineers (presumably paid by Amoco). The forecasts of direct costs are based primarily on Amoco s historical experience, and projected overhead is based on amounts Amoco itself expects to save by divesting MW. Recall, the basic premise of the transaction is that Apache can operate the fields more efficiently than Amoco. Because such efficiencies have not yet been incorporated into the projections, there is reason to believe the direct costs are overstated from Apache s perspective. Looking only at the direct costs, their overstatement suggests that the resulting valuation may be biased low. If so, the valuation will be below Apache s maximum acquisition price, and Apache could bid above this figure and still generate a positive NPV. How Opponents to Gay Marriage Offer Illusory Arguments How Opponent to Gay Marriage offer Illusory Arguments The book The Invisible Gorilla: How Our Intuitions Deceive Us by Chabris and Simons truly makes a strong case for how six different types of illusions (or beliefs) truly disserve the human population. The six common illusions that the book discusses are the illusion of memory, the illusion of confidence, the illusion of knowledge, the illusion of cause and the illusion of potential. Chabris and Simon argue that one can see these illusions at work in a range of human interactions and current events. Sometimes these illusions demonstrate the fallibility of the human mind; sometimes they just demonstrate the need of human beings to impose meaning or order upon things or events which lack both. A current issue that demonstrates several of the six illusions that Chabris and Simons discuss is the debate over gay marriage. Those who oppose gay marriage often demonstrate an argument which is full of illusory and shoddy ideas. For example, one of the main arguments against gay marriage is that allowing homosexuals to marry will destroy the institution of marriage. This demonstrates the illusion of cause. The illusion of cause arises when we see patterns in randomness, and we are most likely to see patterns when we think we understand what is causing them (Chabris Simons, p.155). What must it be like to not let your life revolve around food? To not always think about what can I eat next? or I should invite a friend to dinner so I can eat something yummy. It concerns a lawyer, Gabriel Utterson, who investigates the strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the reclusive Mr. Edward Hyde. This novel represents an ideology in Western culture; the perpetual conflict between humanity s virtuosity and immorality. It is interpreted as an accurate guidebook to the Victorian era s belief of the duality of human nature. Stevenson uses this powerful description to convey and portray a man who comes across as mysterious and dangerous. Stevenson makes him more mystifying when Enfield continues, I can t describe him. And it s not want of memory; for I declare I can see him this moment. (Page 15) This immediately brings a sense of a man with deformities that can t be described. Stevenson uses this to confuse the reader and amplify the sense of foreboding. Surely when one can see somebody in their mind, they can describe how they look and describe their deformities especially? Not being able to describe Hyde shows that he isn t a normal human; he s something far more inhumane. Utterson meets Hyde when Hyde is trying to go through the door where the novel started. After talking very briefly with Hyde, Mr. Utterson gets the impression that Hyde prefers the solitude as he quickly unlocks the door to enter. This time the reader gets an accurate account of how Hyde looks like. Mr. Hyde was pale and dwarfish (Page 23) is the initial line to the description. This could create the sense that Hyde is malnourished and still not fully formed yet. Certainly, few knew the authentic Jay Gatsby from the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. People thought they could fathom him, but countless were fabricated lies. Copious amounts of people in our society progress through life like this also. Never showing who they genuinely are because of shame or even fear of not being accepted by others. A celebrated tenor had sung in Italian, and a notorious contralto had sung in jazz, and between the numbers people were doing stunts all over the garden, while happy, vacuous bursts of laughter rose toward the summer sky (46). Our existing customer, RedBet LLC, had properly paid off two short term leases with us, leaving us a small exposure on a third lease (total exposure had been $320K). RedBet is now coming back to finance of $250K in vacuum tank trailers, a sale that is very important to our preferred vendor. RedBet is an oilfield servicing firm headquartered in New Mexico. We asked, Would you do this deal? Why or why not? As much as we appreciate our lessee, we know that it s even more important for us to value our preferred vendor. With the oil business in decline and our vendor needing to close every sale, this transaction may make or break our relationship with the vendor (who we think could find another funding source to do this deal). In spite of the oil industry downturn, we want to retain this vendor relationship because (a) the vendor is also offering us high quality non oilfield transactions, (b) the cyclical oil business will eventually come back, (c) this vendor s originations have been very profitable for us (high yield and excellent performance−so far), (d) we don t have a concentration in oilfield exposures, and (e) good vendor relationships like this are hard to develop. In addition, with a yield 17%, the transaction could generate substantial income for us. So instead of categorically declining this oil industry transaction, we look for a way to get ... I currently have an HMO plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield of TX and the rates are astronomical. Health insurance is one of the key factors I am using as I am looking for long term employment. Since I am a student, there are not many individual insurance policies available so I am forced to pay extremely steep monthly rates, but am hopeful that the health insurance offered through my future employer will allow me to receive access to better doctors at a lower overall price. Just as auto insurance and renter s/home insurance is needed to help offset the costs of accidents that may occur, the cost of not having health insurance is much higher than the rates I am currently paying so not having insurance is not an option (not to mention without health insurance, you now receive a fine.) I also would like to receive disability insurance through my employer to cover lost income as a result of an accident, or illness. Other sources of disability insurance are available through social security, worker s compensation, and private insurance companies, but as I stated, I would accept these benefits through my employer, social security or worker s compensation but I am unlikely to purchase my own individual disability policy. To do a business impact analysis, the element of component dependency arises. Components dependencies are the interdependency between the exploratory components and the planning components. With the planning component, the organization will dwell much on the minimizing and mitigating the risks that will lead to business disruption, while the exploratory component will dwell so much on discovering and identification of vulnerable areas within the business. Their dependency is as important as the two areas. For an organization to mitigate the risks, it should be aware of the areas that are more vulnerable to risks, and if an organization identifiers the risk then it will have to look for ways to reduce its occurrence or the impacts. What s even more disheartening is that a lot of the poverty stricken families include young children. America is considered one of the richest nations in the world, and that we are so much better off than other countries. While it may be true, I beg to ask the question of why are so many of our fellow brothers and sisters living in poverty? For those of us who are fortunate to be able to afford the basics of things go about our lives without thinking about not being able to pay for basic needs, we don t even realize that a lot of the people we come into contact with are probably poor. Some families do not have enough food to feed their children, or make just enough to pay the basic bills and have little money for food. Poverty is defined as the state or condition of having not enough money, goods, or any means of support for oneself. Statistics say that at least 16 % of Americans are living below the poverty line. • 44. Ad Libitum Observation Essay After I conducted the first two hours of research using the Ad libitum sampling method, I had fifty eight different observations for this particular segment. My data is attached to the back of this document, if you wish to read through each of my comments and how often I recorded. To make it easier to read I typed up my observations and data into excel. In order to make it easier to analyze I created a general activity column on my spreadsheet. Which then I used to create a pie chart I called Ad Libitum Data, which I used to analyze how Bambio spent her time. During this two hour segment of my observations she spent 17% of the time eating, 22% of the time resting, 38% of the time sleeping, 18% of the time travelling, and 5% doing other behaviors. ... It goes into way more detail than my Focal Animal Instantaneous data. The Focal Animal Instantaneous had a comments column but I used this to right a brief account of the behavior for each time stamp. While the Ad libitum goes into far more detail. This is a good thing, but it also could be a bad thing. It makes it much more difficult to analyze, than that of focal animal instantaneous. The Focal data is much more easy to enter into a chart and tally up, due to it only recording certain elements, which made it much easier to create charts to analyze it. Where as with Ad libitum I had to really pick out the general behavior from each entry, and it took a lot more work just to get a graphical representation. This method would be best if you were looking for an in depth account of the behavior being witnessed. Whereas it maybe a bit harder to analyze it will give you a more accurate account. Focal animal instantaneous on the other hand is a much more streamlined method, which would help you to generalize behavior and make things much easier to analyze. Neither method is really better, but they are different and serve different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though everyone say that you get to what you want because of how hard you work. After reading this chapter, I learned that it is also the privileges that you have is what helps you to get what you want or achieve your goal. Moreover, having privileges or being a part of a majority group rather than a minor group makes life a little easier. This chapter taught be that not all the privileged people are racist. In the chapter, Jim was white, tall male, he got football scholarships to go to college. Being a white tall male is a privilege. It made it so easy for Jim to work hard and get to higher potions in his career and make more money. When there could have been a white woman or a Black male that work as hard as Jim but did not get higher positions or higher payment as Jim. From the reading, I understood that it is difficult for non privilege people to be where Jim is at. Because they are not as privileged as Jim.
