 What are some guiding principles in
classroom management and there
implications to teaching?
 What are ways by which a teacher can
prevent or solve discipline problems in class?
 How can a teacher come up with a physical
environment that is supportive of learning?
 What routines can be established for
efficient and effective learning?
A common problem, that beginning teachers
face poor classroom management. In this
chapter, classroom management is not yet
teaching, yet it is a pre-requisite to teaching.
As a classroom managers, we manage resources
to facilitate learning. These resources include
the 3 Ms Moment, Materials, and Man.
 Consistent, proactive discipline is the crux
of effective classroom management.
- “Prevention is better than cure”
If we are proactive in approach to
discipline we prevent unnecessary problems
from cropping up.
let us anticipate potential problems and
nip them in the bud. To be consistent in our
classroom management, we apply at all
times established rules and policies to all the
students regardless of creed, color, economic
status, academic standing in class.
 Establish routines for all daily tasks and
needs.
Routinized collection of assignments, passing
papers, and preparation for experiments
saves a lot of time and effort.
 Orchestrate smooth transitions and
continuity of momentum throughout the
day,
Smooth transition and continuity of
momentum throughout the day ensure that
every instructional moment is made use of
wisely.
 Strike a balance between variety and
challenges in a students activity
A variety of students activities will ensure
that students multiple intelligences and
varied learning styles are considered in the
conduct of students activities. Most of the
time of the activities fall under the
linguistically intelligent group category.
Games that required word use, talking,
writing. The logic and math wizards will also
recommended when boredom creeps into the
classrooms.
 As classroom manager, be aware of all
actions and activities in the classroom.
Awareness of everything that is happening in
the classroom. While our back faces them
while we are writing in the board, our “eyes
on the back of our heads” will make our
pupils and students feel that we now what
they are doing.
 Resolve minor inattention and disruption
before they become major disruptions.
“A stitch on time save nine” aptly applies
here. We have not to wait until our class of
control. Misdemeanor has a “ripple effect” id
not checked early. Conflagration begins with
a sparks. Put out the sparks early enough to
avoid conflagration.
 Reinforce positive behavior
Be generous with genuine praise. Some
teachers are quite stingy with praise.
 Treat minor disturbance calmly
“Do not make mountain out of the mole.” If
a stern look or gesture ca kill the
inappropriate behaviour so be it.
 Work out a physical arrangement if chairs
that facilities an interactive teaching-
learning process.
There is no doubt that external environment
affect desk s us. The most common
arrangement of tables and chairs are in front
and the student’s desk or chairs are arranged
in rows facing the teachers.
 Make good use of every instructional
moment. Minimize discipline time to
maximum instructional time.
We have 205 days for the school year. If the
average teaching-learning hours is 6 per day
then we have 1,230 hours for the entire
school year. These hours and days devoted to
four periodic test. The problem is that not all
this hours are used for instruction. Many
hours for instruction are robbed of every
students for some several reasons.
What can we do to minimize the time spent
on discipline problems in order to maximize
the academic time for instruction and task?
Here some research based effective
techniques:
 Orchestrate smooth transition
 Remain involved with the students during the
entire class period allowing for no idle time.
 Use fillers, in case you finish the lesson
ahead of time.
 Use planning or pacing materials such as the
copy of the scope and sequence of the
subject or a long term weekly and daily plan.
 Use common place to keep materials such as
scissors, school supplies .
 Follow a consistent schedule and maintain
the procedures and routine established at
the beginning of the year.
 Handle administrative task quickly and
effectively
 Prepare materials in advance
 Make clear and smooth transition,
 Limits disruptions and interruptions through
appropriate behavioral management
technique.
For quality output within an allotted period,
here are some suggestions:
 Schedule all activities with corresponding
time allotment way ahead of time. Early
preparations could avoid haste and
confusion.
 Provide enough time for everything you
expect to happen.
 Avoid rushing since you know you have
carefully allotted required for every activity.
 Anticipate difficulties or failure of some
operations in order to be able to pursue
alternative actions
 Be flexible with their assignments.
 Set the examples by showing that you are
time concious.
