Animation Stimuli For The Study Of Instructor Gestures
System for creating animation stimuli for the study of instructor gestures in education. The system
does not require artistic talent or programming expertise. The system provides an animation character
that serves as an instructor avatar .The avatar can speak ,write on a nearby white board ,and make
pointing ,embodied cognition and charisma gestures .The avatar is controlled with a text script that
specify when and what the avatar says and does. Introduction : Animation plays an important role in
education. Animation such as pointing; circling; or underlining can help capture; maintain ,and direct
the student s attention during lecture . Instructor animation serve as a complementary communication
channel that helps student parse and grasp the information presented to them verbally and visually. For
example : in the context of learning mathematical equivalence ,a balance gestures elicits the students
firsthand experience with the concept of physical equilibrium, which is used to scaffold the novel
concepts of balancing the sides of equation . Animation can help convey an instructor s appealing and
engaging personality which enhances the learning .Important as animation seems to be ,much remains
to be discovered through education research regarding what ,when and how instructor animation
benefit learning. . Traditional education research on instructor animation relies on video stimuli.

Media And Moral Panics Analysis
Lastly, I will discuss how the article I have chosen greatly relates to this idea of media and moral
panics. The sexualisation of women in the media is very much true, and is continuously reinforced and
exposed to children. Women as sexual objects, and women continuously being a part of news that
relate to sexual acts is a form of moral and media panic in society. Moral panics have become the
main way in which daily events are brought to the attention of the public. Moral panics become a
means whereby the state persuades people to accept the need to deal with threats to the social order
through authoritarian means (Buckingham Jensen, 416, 2012). To add, moral panics are
overwhelmingly concerned with moral values, and drawing on lines between

Personal Response to creation
Personal Response Creation
Lenses by Leah Silverman
The main theme is humans can find it emotionally difficult to conform to society, but usually end up
doing so. The meaning of this theme is that we all want to do things that are practical to society even
if it feels wrong in our hearts. The main driving component which draws people too conformity are the
desire to be accepted in certain status groups. People fear that if they do not conform to society, they
will be breaking the social contract, therefore be rejected by society at not being able to achieve their
personal goals. It is easier to do what is expected than following our minds and rebel. We chose this
theme because we can all relate to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This individual believes that lies would destroy friendships and lives of others. This relates to the topic
because when we conform to society, we become dishonest with ourselves. We lie about our feelings
and emotions to do what is expected. In the poem it says lying could really hurt a person inside.
However, by becoming truthful and showing our true self could also hurt us because by doing so, we
could be judged and talked about in a negative light. Leah Silverman s Lenses tells the story of a
young surgeon, Corinne, who is asked to replace the vivid eyes of a friend with two round, steel
lenses. She finds herself in a difficult situation where she must decide whether or not to go through
with the operation, risking ruining her friend s depth and character. The overall message of the story is
that the people are made as unique individuals. The story emphasizes how the eyes contribute to the
individuality and beauty of a person, and the fact that nothing can replace them. This relates to the
theme because as people try to fit into society, they start to change and become someone they are not.
It is important to know the significance of being unique because it tells so much about our character
and feelings. Also, though a person goes through a

Pieter Claesz Still Life
A quick glance at the Still Life (1643) by Pieter Claesz (figure 1) reminds me of his Still Life with
Oysters and Roemer (1642) (figure 2). The environment looks familiar, because they both depicted
similar objects against the same wall, the same light source and perhaps the same table. A silver plate
with three pieces of oysters, accompanied by a knife on the left, always occupies the middle
foreground of the table; behind the plate of oysters is always a gleaming Roemer that is placed on the
left across from a piece of bread. I also see pepper spreading out from its newspaper packing, and at
the back, a pinch of salt sitting in a metal container while topping the brim.
I think the meaning(s) of the Still Life (1643) lie(s) in the comparison ... Show more content on

Nevertheless, I feel Hochstraser would stand out and warn me not to be fooled by those fancy objects
appearance or underestimate little things value. She would direct me to look at the pepper on the table
and think about the labors and lives cost on the way from its homeland to Dutchmen s table. On the
one hand, a Dutch merchant would be encouraged by the abundant still life painting to invest in more
voyage and goods from Dutch colonies; on the other hand, due to the underestimation of the cost and
labor on the importing activity, Dutch people yet never realized the bankruptcy that awaited nearby.
Thus, everything is expensive in the Still Life (1643). However, I wondered if the bread has shown
traces of getting consumed by someone, then why not everything? I suppose originally there were five
oysters presented in the table, but only two were needed and perhaps the pearl was from one of the
eaten ones. I suppose the Roemer was filled nearly to the top with liquor yet the consumer only sipped
a little out of it. I suppose that the consumer may not even need the pepper and salt, because, as Still
Life with Oysters and Roemer (1642) suggests, I did not see pepper gets grinded and salt gets
sprinkled on the plate. Then I questioned: if the consumer does not need the salt, why does he/she
have it on the table with a luxurious container whose appearance surpasses its function? Although

A New Economic Vision For America s Infrastructure
The Way Forward
A New Economic Vision for

Summary
Disruptive market, demographic, fiscal, and environmental dynamics are fundamentally reshaping
America s economic landscape. In this new reality, the United States should think of infrastructure not
in the general but in the specific, understanding the ways in which different infrastructure sectors such
as transportation, energy, and water are governed, financed, and delivered. At the same time,
metropolitan areas need to outline their priorities given their distinct economies, competitive
advantages, and infrastructure needs. As public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States faces an unprecedented number of economic, demographic, fiscal, and
environmental challenges that compel both the government and the private sector to rethink the way
they do business. While these new forces are incredibly diverse including everything from the shale
gas revolution to renewed consumer preferences for urban living they share one underlying need:
modern, efficient, and reliable infrastructure. Tangible assets made of concrete, steel, and fiber optic
cable are essential building blocks of the American economy. Infrastructure enables global trade,
powers businesses, connects workers to their jobs, creates new opportunities for struggling
communities, and protects America from an unpredictable natural environment. From private
investments in telecommunication systems, broadband networks, freight railroads, energy projects,
and pipelines, to public investments in transportation, water, public buildings, and parks,
America s infrastructure is the backbone of a healthy national economy. Infrastructure also supports
American workers, providing millions of jobs each year to build and maintain the structures and
facilities that power our economy. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that approximately
14 million Americans are employed in fields directly related to infrastructure. From locomotive
engineers, electrical power line installers and truck drivers to airline

John Mackie s Views On The Problem Of Evil
The problem of evil
It s only not depict a logical argument intended for a disciple, however, he give an dispute of such
extent as to style a disciple s religious opinions wholly illogical in as much as a disciple grips to
something that can be proved moreover believe on what can be present refuted from extra theories
they grip.
For disciples who grip to a God who is both exclusively good and omnipotent is the single problem of
evil.
The subsequent propositions are erratic, according to Mackie.
1. God is omnipotent.
No boundaries to what an omnipotent creature can do.
2. God is exclusively good.
An exclusively good creature is opposite to evil in a manner that it rejects evil as remote as it can.
3. God is omniscient.

God subsists.
All of them cannot be true this mean one of them have to be false.
We can contradict that God is all powerful or wholly good, or we can contradict that there is any evil
in the creation.
FALLACIOUS SOLUTIONS
1. Good cannot be without evil, since evil is counterpart of good.
2. Evil is essential as a means to virtuous.
3. A world with several evil is better than a world with no evil.
4. Evil is essential for free will.
Good cannot be without evil, since evil is counterpart of good
The plain concept is that without letting some evil, God could not have completed a creation which
had any good, because it is unmanageable for good will to exist without evil.
Mackie states that evil must essentially exit of good exist since they are rational counterparts.
Therefore, it s rationally required that in creating good God must also generate at slightest some evil.
Evil is essential as a means to virtuous
This idea contains a stark limit on God s power thus contains refusing God s omnipotence.
Without a certain means it can t get a certain end called causal law.

The Policies of Lenin and Stalin Essay
Identified within this study is the argument that whilst many of Lenin s theories and practices were
continued under Stalin, many were in fact developed and extended to new levels, possibly reflecting
different motives: what Pipes refers to as Stalin s personality of excesses . Although for many years,
numerous historians including both members of the Western school of thought (such as Pipes), along
with the official Soviet historians of the time believed that Stalin was the natural heir of Lenin,
opinions have changed with time. As more evidence came out of Stalin s mass atrocities, the Soviet
historians soon began to see Stalin as the betrayer of the revolution as Trotsky had always maintained,

According to this view, had Lenin lived, these policies would probably have been reversed as political
and economic stability was restored, and certainly would not have given rise to the mass
extermination of millions of peasants and party members, which prevailed under Stalin in the 1930s.
In scrutinising the actions of Stalin, I have examined especially how they differed from those of
Lenin, and in what ways the motives for similar actions changed. One aspect of continuity is reflected
in the control and influence that both Lenin and Stalin had over their parties. In 1921, Lenin
effectively destroyed democracy in the party through his ban of factionalism. Although this was used
to end the problem of splits (during the crisis of the same year), many see it as a key factor in allowing
Stalin to rise to power. Stalin often accused people of factionalism (e.g. Trotsky, Zinoviev, Kamenev)
as a response to any challenges to his authority. It also created a situation that allowed the party
leadership to do what it wanted and dismiss any opposition. Pipes argues that as a result of this, the
Bolsheviks were carefully coerced into always following Lenin s will, and that his policy of
democratic centralism was merely a façade like many of the other

What Is The Differences Between The Bertram House And The...
Typology is the taxonomic classification of characteristics found in buildings and urban places,
according to their association with different groups, such as degrees of development, levels of
formality, and thought processes. It stands to reason that 2 buildings with the same typology would
have more similarities than they would differences. However this is not always the case. More often
than not buildings with the same typology can differ greatly. Take for example the Bertram House and
the Tubac House. These two buildings are both a house typology however they represent this same
typology in varying ways some ways similar others vastly different. These differences have come
about due to many influences such as style, lighting, form, spatial organization, plan of the building,
school of thought, separation of private, semi private and public space, materiality, and focus of the
building. This essay aims to theorize how buildings with the same typology can have such massive
differences between them.
The Bertram House (See Figure 1.1) was designed and constructed by John Barker in 1839 (an
English emigrant) and named the house in memory of his first wife Ann Bertram Findlay. The Bertram

house typology. In that they are able to hold all the functions that it was intended while at the same

be extremely different but still architecturally work as that same typology and furthermore that when it
comes to designing a certain typology there is no defined way in which this can be

Changes due to Urban Renewal in Pyrmont-Ultimo Essay
In 1900, Pyrmont was an important port and industrial area, with a population of almost 30 000
people. There was a wide range of industries and services present including wharves, dockyards,
warehouses, abattoirs, wool stores, railway yards and even an incinerator for the disposal of Sydney s
waste. It was deemed a working class suburb with a predominantly Irish/Catholic population. As the
income for Pyrmont was only modest, semi detached cottages were the most common type of housing
present.
In the 1960 s however, Pyrmont Ultimo was deteriorating at a fast rate and became an unfortunate
example of urban decay. The government policy of decentralisation, which is having industries move
away from the centre of the city, was having an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The major objectives were to improve the economic efficiency, social equity and environmental
sustainability of Australia s cities and Pyrmont Ultimo was a targeted suburb for urban renewal. There
were several areas that the program aimed to improve including housing, transport, public parks or
open spaces and protection of the environment.
Housing:
Prior to urban renewal, Pyrmont Ultimo had residents with similar incomes. However to achieve the
goal of social equity plans were made for a mixed, high density, medium rise residential area.
Approximately 7500 new dwellings have been constructed plus the renovation of 1400 existing
dwellings. The aim was to cater for all household types such as families, couples and singles, provide
affordable housing for middle to low income earners, provide residential dwellings with waterfront
access and with water and city views, protect existing housing, retain a socially diverse residential
population which includes all income groups, provide opportunities to live close to places of work and
to create a high quality urban environment. The provision of affordable or public housing was an
important aspect to consider in the process. Without some sort of intervention to provide this
affordable housing, the attractiveness of living close to Sydney s CBD would only be reserved for
high income earners as dwellings would be too expensive and rent would be too high. From a social
equity point of view it was therefore vital to provide

Viktor and Rolf are an inseparable duo in the fashion world and I was in awe the moment I saw their
work. I was planing on researching only one side of the duo for Haute couture but all the information
on them is in sync. When in Arnhem, The Netherlands in 1992 Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren

The duo worked hard to develop their first line that premiered in 1993 (Heritage, 2015). The duo was

Viktor and Rolf have recently announced that they will no longer continue in ready to wear and
strictly focus on haute couture. They state that ready to wear is creatively restricting (Socha, M.,2015,
February). The announcement happened after their most recent collection for fall/winter 2015/16. The
show was breathtaking. Victor states that The idea was wearable art. now that we are concentrating on
couture we wanted to emphasize very literally how we have artistic roots and how fashion can be art
in our universe.
Viktor and Rolf have been very successful at creating a name for themselves. This success has led to
interest in there haute couture lines. Because of the major breakthroughs and innovative collections
the men will continue to grow. Their strong point is art and dropping their ready to wear line will
allow them to continue to push the boundaries in fashion, inspire, and awe crowds. Viktor and Rolf
have established a name and keep living up to their title. They only continue to push and strive to
invent new concepts. I expect Viktor and Rolf to define new terms for fashion and art.

Passing And Repealment Of The Fourteenth Amendment
Answering how the Prohibition failed is a lofty question with many answers and components of
answers. Even daily life during the Prohibition had was shaped by illegal alcohol making and trading.
You would regularly hear of people being gunned down in the street due to a bad deal or a falling out.
The combination of crime and disobedience at such a high rate spelled for the inevitable repeal of
Amendment 18, but what were some of the specific factors? This paper will try to examine what led to
the passing and repealment of The 18th Amendment + The Volstead Act. In order to understand the
problem, we have to first know what caused it. That would be the 18th Amendment and the Volstead
Act. The 18th Amendment prohibited the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a controversial move for the Congress to make, it certainly did not go off without
consequences. The Volstead Act, even as concrete as its rules seem, had many loopholes that the
American people could abuse. One of the largest and most obvious loopholes was that medicinal
alcohol could still be prescribed by physicians. Many people would feign sickness in order to obtain
whisky legally and reliably. This caused the sale of medical alcohol to insanely spike in sales, but even
with the obvious implications these stats held, the government did not remove whisky as a prescribed
medicine. Many farmers would also profit off of alcohol made of grapes and other juices. Since the
government couldn t ban fruit juices, they would mix those fruits with a certain dry fruit used to create
alcohol. Supplies in which you could easily brew your own alcohol could also be found in common
groceries. People even went as far as to joining the congregation to obtain sacramental wine. If one
wanted to enjoy their drinking with others, they could just enter one of the many Speakeasies, popping
up underground. These secret bars had secret entrances, which could only be accessed with a spoken
password. It was said that with every legitimate bar closed, six speakeasies would take it s place.
While some made the use of legal loopholes to get their alcohol fix, many turned to crime and
subterfuge. People who didn t want to directly get their hands dirty called upon the

Desolation In Cask Of Amontillado And The Guest
He Was Alone : A Discussion of to What Extent Do Text Writers Utilize Light and Dark Imagery to
Epitomize the Concept of Desolation In The Cask of Amontillado And The Guest
The Cask of Amontillado and The Guest are both works that encompass a variance of imagery to
further enhance a specific theme, which is found to be prominent in these stories. Although imbuing a
notable contrast in regards to the embedment of literary devices, The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar
Allen Poe and The Guest by Albert Camus are two works that use light and/or dark imagery to
emphasize the state of desolation; whether it be mental, physical or societal woe, it strives to play an
effective role in the plot evolvement in both works. The contrast in the stories is ... Show more content

In contrast, one can sense the subtle progression that occurs in The Cask of Amontillado. Regardless
of the dominance of dark imagery in this piece, the story is set initially in the supreme madness of the
carnival season a rather exciting, uplifting setting where Montresor first lures a drunk Fortunato to the
catacombs for his fateful demise. Thereafter, as they go to search for this supposed cask of
Amontillado, the surrounding imagery begins to notably develop into long walls of piled skeletons
with casks and puncheons. In summary, this imagery can be interpreted in the sense that in The Guest,
there had always been this omniscient aura of desolation; the constant repetition of cold, distant
imagery reinforces the very little development of Daru s circumstances. In the beginning, Daru is
introduced as the exiled school teacher of an empty, frigid classroom, and as the story encloses with
him being still alone. His mentality is static; he still feels as much seclusion from vast landscape.
Whereas, in The Cask of Amontillado, the transition of imagery from an elated atmosphere of
Fortunato drinking with his tight fitting parti striped dress..conical cap and bells to now a dreary
ambience, as the characters trudge down vaults that are insufferably damp can ultimately signify
Montresor s mental descent. As he brings Fortunato closer to his death, his mind is reaching closer and
closer to this inevitable anguish that overtakes him, proven by the ever so contemptuous words, for the

Comparing Women Of Athens And Sparta
The position and roles of women in society have generally improved over time. These factors,
however, differ from region to region because different properties determine them. They include laws,
cultures, and community set up. The same elements described the position and roles of women in
ancient Greece. The two major cities with contrasting perceptions of women were Athens and Spartan.
These areas had different cultures and set ups. Athens was a developed city at the time and consisted
of a number of scholars ranging from philosophers to artists. Spartan, on the other hand, had a military
like lifestyle and not so many scholars. These differences shaped the roles of women in different
aspects of the two communities. The difference in positions led several philosophers and writers to put
down texts on this subject. This essay refers to these texts to compare the women of Athens and Sparta
and show the general inequality they experienced.
Women in Athens had close to zero rights. They lived in a society that was dominated by men who
preferred to isolate them. Women could not participate in public and civic matters especially politics.
Citizens were the only ones that could get involved in civic issues. At the time, only men could be
citizens (O Pry 8). However, the Royal and a few freeborn women could make a contribution to
political issues, a fact that displeased most men. Aristotle writes in On a Good Wife that a woman
should not bother with public issues. He goes on to

Albert Einstein. Peace is defined as a state of tranquility or silence. An example of peace would be , a
state of security or order within a community that have laws in place. Another definition of peace is a
period of mutual understanding between the nations. Immanuel Kant was an individual who expressed
the concept of republic peace in which international relation scholars named democratic peace . Do

Disarmament , demobilization and reintegration are three major aspects of post conflict consolidation
that have been displayed obviously in the authorization of peacekeeping operations over the last
twenty years. Disarmament is the collection, documentation, control and disposal of small arms

population. Demobilization is the discharge of active combatants from the armed forces and groups
which includes a phase of reinsertion that provides short term assistance to ex combatants.
Reintegration is defined as the process in which ex combatants acquire civilian status and gain
sustainable employment and income. It is also a political, social and economic process that has an
accessible time frame which is generally taking place in local communities. This clearly illustrates that
world peace can exist among countries

The Problem Of Cover Songs
There is a belief in today s society that grew from the past that a cover song is merely a copy or rip off
of the original. This dilemma is discussed in an article by a man named Don Cusic, who has taught
courses in the music business industry since the year of 1982 and is known as a pioneer in music
business education. Cusic s other accomplishments and credibility come from being an historian on
country music, a scholar and writer known worldwide, author of over 209 books and 500 articles, and
having appeared on CMT programs, TNN shows, and two BBC series (Belmont University). The
reason that cover songs are an important discussion in today s society is because there is an increase
presently in cover song creation and also a steady increase of criticism on cover songs. This is due to
the creation of increasingly popular video uploading sites on the internet like YouTube, where any
person can go in, view a cover song and assert that it s bad because it isn t the original song. The
article In Defense of Cover Songs is a strong argumentative article with weak points due to providing
strong historical information on a cover song s influence on the creation of major known songs and
artists and that it conveys a weak unprofessional bias opinion from the author Cusic, who argues that
cover songs are a person s own interpretation of a song and that critics and fans should not belittle a
cover song compared to an original song. First, in the article he discusses the loss of

What Is The Scale Of Nature In Paradise Lost
Carly Merryman ENGL 328 Stoll 3 October 2014 Paradise Lost: Books V VI Milton s scale of nature,
while appearing linear, allows the creatures within in it to ascend to God by steps, (V.512). This
creates a dynamic scale that would enable a particular being the ability to move up and down the scale
based on its behaviors, and align itself closer to God. However, an animal or a human can only climb
so far. No matter how virtuous an animal was it could never surpass a human because it is lacking the
spiritual essence that God awarded to man. Similarly, a human, while living, could never attain the
same closeness to God as an angel. So while this allows for some degree of mobility, each sect of the
scale is confined within the parameters that God set forth. If the creation was one first matter all as
Raphael says to Adam then that would mean that all matter came from God. Not only does this
reconcile science and religious beliefs because as Newton s First Law says, Matter can neither be
created nor destroyed, but it also asserts that all matter begins as being inherently good. This
explanation disqualifies ex nihlo because as science says there can be no absolute nothing. Milton s
attempts to resolve the religion versus science issues are made stronger by his references to Galileo
and astronomy. But Milton s version of the creation tackles the problem of absolute nothingness. If
there were absolute nothingness before matter, then that nothingness would have had to

Carl Sagan s On Nuclear Disarmament By Carl Sagan
On Nuclear Disarmament is a brilliant piece of work by Carl Sagan detailing the costs of nuclear war.
From the mass destruction and finality of nuclear weapons, to the fool s bargain we ve made, and how
we only reconcile after lives have been lost it is evident we must do everything in our power to
prevent a nuclear war. We, as the human race, have made so many technological advancements to
better our lives and improve our environment. However, when it comes to our weapons, it seems we
may have gone too far. In the hopes of keeping us safe we ve developed stronger, better weapons.
Whether it s to protect us from each other or from others, safety has always been the number one
concern. Yet, with the use of nuclear weapons our safety is no longer ensured. A thousand times a
thousand, times a thousand is a billion; in less than a century, our most fearful weapon has become a
billion times more deadly (Sagan 656). As said by Sagan, our weapons have become exponentially
stronger in such a short amount of time. We ve done this under the belief that it ll make us safer when,
in fact, we don t really possess the knowledge to use such a destructive force. When it comes to
nuclear weapons there is no going back. After the damage has been dealt it can t be undone. Some of
them had an explosive yield equivalent to ten million tons of TNT; enough to kill a few million (Sagan
656). We hold the power to kill a few million people, when less than a century ago we only had
enough power

Liberalism Vs. Realism Essay
Liberalism vs. Realism
In a world where the drive for power and the will to dominate are held to be fundamental aspects of
human nature as the Classical Realists would argue, the necessity for International Organizations
cannot be dismissed as some liberalists argue. According to Iriye 2002, IGO s consists of institutions
that come into existence through formal agreements among nations and represent their corresponding
governments (Iriye 2002, Pg. 12 14). With that in mind, some liberalists argue that joining
international organizations and institutions like the United Nations socializes some leaders so that
their motivations are more benign (Dunne 2011, Pg. 103). I am convinced to a certain extent with this
idea as I feel that even though classical realists argue that every man has within him the desire to rule
or the desire for power (Dunne and Schmidt 2011, Pg. 90). When several leaders come together all
from different IR theoretical backgrounds (liberalists, realists, constructivists) each decision they
make comes collectively thus not leaving too much room for their individual biases based on their
theoretical perspectives to impact important international relations issues negatively . Although I
highly doubt if anything can be done to control the human desire for power accumulation as a classical
realist would say, a part of the psyche of man, I do believe the liberalists argument to be of substance.
Because IGO s result in socialization, they also create a

THE CONTEXT OF TALENT MANAGEMENT
As South Africa embarks on it s journey into the second decade of democracy, few can argue that
tremendous strides have been made on the political, economic, social and legislative fronts. Much of
our legislation and policy directions are amongst the most progressive in the world. However, many
challenges remain. One of these is the shortage of professional and managerial skills and the
imbalances in terms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This manifests itself at 2 levels. Firstly, firms soon reach a state of overload. Deadlines are missed,
standards and quality of work drop and a vicious cycle emerges and feeds on itself. This is a very
common phenomenon with small and medium sized professional firms. They do not have the capacity
to manage their growth or the peaks and valleys associated with the modern business world. Secondly,
the firm is so consumed with meeting operational deadlines that it loses it s ability to keep up to date
with latest best practice, legislation or other issues demanding new skills. In this case clients will soon
recognise that mistakes are made due to lack of currency of skills. These are some of the more visible
risks to firms who do not pay attention to the attraction, growth and retention of key talent. Beyond
the visible, other manifestations of the problem arise. Staff morale declines because leadership talent
is absent and this energy drop is transferred to the client. Internal politics and protection of territory or
unwillingness to share information and surface problems affect the functioning of the firm. All of
these things affect the ability of the organisation to offer great service and take advantage of
opportunities to grow.

Argumentative Essay On Honey Bees
Bees, commonly referred to as a nuisance, actually play an important role in the world, bees may seem
like just another bottom of a food chain useless Anthophila on planet Earth, but they play a vital part

Women s Status Of Women
INTRODUCTION
Throughout history and civilization women seem to have been in a constant state of evolution either
towards a submissive role or a strong role but nonetheless, changing. This paper will discuss women
from the lower and middle ranks in history and their status in the various civilizations.
This paper argues that the status of lower and middle class women deteriorated over time and only the
Paleolithic period seemed to comprise of a gender neutral society.
THE STATUS OF WOMEN OVER TIME
In the Paleolithic society, women seemed to have an equal contributing hand towards the survival of
the community. Men traveled and hunted while women gathered fruits from areas within the vicinity
of their residence. Although hunted meat brought home by the men was important, the vegetables and
fruits gathered by the women were equally as important for survival especially when men failed at
their hunt. The interdependence of the sexes ensured that one sex is not dominant over another.
(Bentley and Ziegler, pg.10).
The Venus Figurines (named after the Roman goddess of love) of early homo sapiens were small
structures of women that depicted prominent sexual features focusing greatly on fertility and new life.
These figurines are believed to also play a role in rituals to increase fertility. (Bentley and Ziegler,
pg.14) This shows that women were always subjected to their physical appearance and the fact that
they were seen as baby carriers.
From the Neolithic era, women are

Social Media And Electronic Communication
Communication
Electronic communication technologies influence the social development of adolescents in several
ways including interpersonal communication, and emphasized that interpersonal communications are
depersonalized because adolescent now conduct a higher proportion of communication electronically
rather than face to face or voice to voice. (Subrahmanyam greenfield, 2008). Any type technology to
communicate with others, such as cell phones, instant messaging, and social networking sites, it
deprives any visual or auditory cues of facial expression, body language, and voice dynamics (Cyr,
Berman, Smith, 2014). Interpersonal relationship problems arise when messages on either end are
misunderstood (Erozkan, 2013).
When adolescents communicate face to face, it provides an adequate tone of voice, therefore the
message is more clearly, in contrast, when using social media, the reader may misinterpret the
message. Erozkan (2013) emphasized that without effective communication, a message can turn into
error, misunderstanding, or frustration. Communication is the basis of personal relationships and
effective communication happens when the message that is sent is the same message that is received
(Erozkan, 2013). This can cause differences in relationships as interactions face to face are necessary.
Although face to face interactions provides more meaning to relationships, adolescents opt to use their
electronic communication. Some adolescents might be more expressive

Using Lies to Define Morality of Characters in Adventures...
Mark Twain once said, Lie an abomination before the Lord and an ever present help in time of trouble.
Twain s description of deceit gives it a type of double meaning. This idea of lying being used for good
as well as evil is not unheard of. Many time people find it necessary to lie to maintain a greater good
or save a life. However, all too often, people lie for self serving, immoral purposes. In this quote,
Twain elegantly shows the delicate balance between good and evil in the performance of the same act.
Furthermore, Twain also shows this complex thought in his portrayal of characters in Adventures of

Mary Jane she fetched the letter her father left behind, and the king he read it out loud and cried over

Similarities Between Louis Xiv And Peter The Great
Absolutism is a political system in which a King or Queen has absolute power over a country. This
ruler also controls the political system, taxes, laws and every aspect of society. An absolute monarch
can also believe in divine right. This is the belief that God gave power to the monarchs to be a God on
earth. An example of these types of rulers are Louis XIV, who ruled for 72 years, Ivan the Terrible
who ruled from 1530 to 1584, and Peter the Great who ruled from 1682 to 1725. Peter the Great was
the most significant absolutist ruler because of all the great things he did for the poor people and his

Teenage Driver Observation Paper
On March 30, 2018, a call was dispatched about a possible drunk driver traveling eastbound on
Highway 90, passing Highway 57. The reporting party described the vehicle as an older model Dodge
truck faded red in color.
I was sitting in my vehicle at the police department when I observed a Dodge Ram matching the
description drive past me. They were traveling at a speed of 30 MPH in a 45 MPH speed zone. When I
got behind the vehicle I noticed they were traveling while touching the left center line, they also had a
bunch of miscellaneous items hanging from their rear view mirror obstructing their view. I initiated
my blue lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop. We pulled into the Mcdonald s parking lot off of
Highway 90. Sgt. Fowler then pulled up and assisted me on my traffic stop.
The vehicle consisted of three passengers. The driver was identified as Ricky Smith, the back
passenger was identified as Tony Teauge, and the front passenger was Smith s mother.
After asking Smith for a valid driver s license and proof of insurance, he stated he does not have a
valid license and that it is suspended. Smith stated his mother was at the casino in Biloxi and was too
drunk to drive. Smith went and picked her up knowing he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He let his mother do most of the talking when I asked him questions and when he spoke his speech
was slurred. He became nervous and was begging for a cigarette after being asked to step out of his
vehicle. He started talking real fast and started stuttering while explaining his story. Smith admitted to
having a few drinks while at the casino, which were mixed drinks. He stated that he knows he messed
up by driving after consuming alcohol at the casino. Smith was willing to take a portable breathalyzer
on scene to determine the level of alcohol that was in his system. The test showed a positive result of
his blood alcohol level reading

Marine Mammal Protection Act Essay
Environmental laws play an important role in maintaining the earth and its resources; their goal is to
protect the environment. The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 is a great example of the
government making an effort to protect marine life. The Marine Mammal Protection Act is also often
referred to as MMPA. This act made it illegal for anyone without a permit to take marine mammals
out of United States waters. This includes hunting, killing, capturing, and/or harassment of any marine
mammal. On October 21, 1972 President Richard Nixon signed this policy into effect. Richard Nixon
is an individual who has encouraged a lot more environmental laws to be passed. The Marine
Mammal Protection Act of 1972 was actually the first act that the United States Congress passed that
specifically asked an ecosystem to approach a natural resource with caution. This has never been done
before and President Nixon opened up the door for many more environmental laws to be passed.
Usually something extreme must happen in order for Congress to get involved and take ... Show more

For example, scientists are continually working on cutting edge technology in order to ensure that the
management s actions are most effectively achieving the goal of MMPA. They also stay in contact
with Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program in order to expand our understanding
of anthropogenic and natural causes of marine mammal mortality. They continually investigate and
work to lessen the severity of the effects of sound on marine mammals. MMPA has also set up ten
different teams that consist of scientists, conservationists, and fishing industry representative. These
teams have been put in place to reduce the incidental catch of marine mammals. They regularly take
assessments of population size of most marine mammals in the United States water. And most
importantly they continually work to minimize the impact that human activities have on marine

Literary Analysis of The Dancing Bear and Planting a...
Analysis of William Frederick Witherington s short story The Dancing Bear
1.
The initial impression gathered from the passage is bizarre and very dreamlike, perhaps chiefly
because it is an excerpt from a novel or a larger literary work. Upon further analysis, the passage
develops an eerily violent tone. The events appear to take place in the home of Dieter Bethge, during a
stormy night while he is sleeping. Immediately the rain is described as falling with sodden fury ,
introducing the negative tone. Shortly after this description, Mrs. Hax adopts the persona of an animal
stalking its prey. She methodically trimmed the glass out of the frame eerily without emotion, despite
the fact that she is on her way to cause harm to Dieter, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, after the paragraphs describing Dieters dream end, the passage is written in a dreamlike
manner. It seems that Bethge mistakes Mrs. Hax for the dancing bear, which is strange because her
actions in the first paragraph are nothing like the graceful actions of the bear, and she does not want to
fold him onto the fragrant, brilliant fur in a warm embrace but rather harm him.
Analysis of Dana Gioia s Poem Planting a Sequoia 1. (b) The tone of the Planting a Sequoia prose
passage is reflectively melancholy. It is not one of pure agonizing sadness, yet there are underling
depressing qualities to the author s words. The purpose of the passage is to describe the death an
individual, presumably the first born son of the narrator. The narrator is speaking to the Sequoia that
he is planting. Each of the stanzas switch from a mood of death and a mood of life. The rain
blacken[ing] the horizon , the dull gray skies and the old year coming to an end all work together to
create the melancholy mood. The following stanza switches to a newer and livelier mood, including
the celebration of the first son s birth, earth having more life to bear , the description of a green
sapling rising among the twisted apple boughs and the promise of new fruit in other autumns . The
promise of ne fruit describes the symbolic purpose of the tree. Although a life is lost, there is hope for
future fruit , or life in the future. The third stanza begins with the

  • 3. Media And Moral Panics Analysis Lastly, I will discuss how the article I have chosen greatly relates to this idea of media and moral panics. The sexualisation of women in the media is very much true, and is continuously reinforced and exposed to children. Women as sexual objects, and women continuously being a part of news that relate to sexual acts is a form of moral and media panic in society. Moral panics have become the main way in which daily events are brought to the attention of the public. Moral panics become a means whereby the state persuades people to accept the need to deal with threats to the social order through authoritarian means (Buckingham Jensen, 416, 2012). The meaning of this theme is that we all want to do things that are practical to society even if it feels wrong in our hearts. The main driving component which draws people too conformity are the desire to be accepted in certain status groups. People fear that if they do not conform to society, they will be breaking the social contract, therefore be rejected by society at not being able to achieve their personal goals. This individual believes that lies would destroy friendships and lives of others. This relates to the topic because when we conform to society, we become dishonest with ourselves. We lie about our feelings and emotions to do what is expected. In the poem it says lying could really hurt a person inside. However, by becoming truthful and showing our true self could also hurt us because by doing so, we could be judged and talked about in a negative light. Leah Silverman s Lenses tells the story of a young surgeon, Corinne, who is asked to replace the vivid eyes of a friend with two round, steel lenses. She finds herself in a difficult situation where she must decide whether or not to go through with the operation, risking ruining her friend s depth and character. The overall message of the story is that the people are made as unique individuals. The story emphasizes how the eyes contribute to the individuality and beauty of a person, and the fact that nothing can replace them. This relates to the theme because as people try to fit into society, they start to change and become someone they are not. It is important to know the significance of being unique because it tells so much about our character and feelings. Also, though a person goes through a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pieter Claesz Still Life A quick glance at the Still Life (1643) by Pieter Claesz (figure 1) reminds me of his Still Life with Oysters and Roemer (1642) (figure 2). The environment looks familiar, because they both depicted similar objects against the same wall, the same light source and perhaps the same table. A silver plate with three pieces of oysters, accompanied by a knife on the left, always occupies the middle foreground of the table; behind the plate of oysters is always a gleaming Roemer that is placed on the left across from a piece of bread. I also see pepper spreading out from its newspaper packing, and at the back, a pinch of salt sitting in a metal container while topping the brim. Nevertheless, I feel Hochstraser would stand out and warn me not to be fooled by those fancy objects appearance or underestimate little things value. She would direct me to look at the pepper on the table and think about the labors and lives cost on the way from its homeland to Dutchmen s table. On the one hand, a Dutch merchant would be encouraged by the abundant still life painting to invest in more voyage and goods from Dutch colonies; on the other hand, due to the underestimation of the cost and labor on the importing activity, Dutch people yet never realized the bankruptcy that awaited nearby. Thus, everything is expensive in the Still Life (1643). However, I wondered if the bread has shown traces of getting consumed by someone, then why not everything? I suppose originally there were five oysters presented in the table, but only two were needed and perhaps the pearl was from one of the eaten ones. I suppose the Roemer was filled nearly to the top with liquor yet the consumer only sipped a little out of it. I suppose that the consumer may not even need the pepper and salt, because, as Still Life with Oysters and Roemer (1642) suggests, I did not see pepper gets grinded and salt gets sprinkled on the plate. Then I questioned: if the consumer does not need the salt, why does he/she have it on the table with a luxurious container whose appearance surpasses its function? Although Hochstraser ... • 6. A New Economic Vision For America s Infrastructure The Way Forward A New Economic Vision for America s Infrastructure May 2014 By Robert Puentes, The Brookings Institution Bruce Katz, The Brookings Institution Marc Lipschult z, KKR Raj Agrawal, KKR Summary Disruptive market, demographic, fiscal, and environmental dynamics are fundamentally reshaping America s economic landscape. In this new reality, the United States should think of infrastructure not in the general but in the specific, understanding the ways in which different infrastructure sectors such as transportation, energy, and water are governed, financed, and delivered. At the same time, metropolitan areas need to outline their priorities given their distinct economies, competitive advantages, and infrastructure needs. As public ... The United States faces an unprecedented number of economic, demographic, fiscal, and environmental challenges that compel both the government and the private sector to rethink the way they do business. While these new forces are incredibly diverse including everything from the shale gas revolution to renewed consumer preferences for urban living they share one underlying need: modern, efficient, and reliable infrastructure. Tangible assets made of concrete, steel, and fiber optic cable are essential building blocks of the American economy. Infrastructure enables global trade, powers businesses, connects workers to their jobs, creates new opportunities for struggling communities, and protects America from an unpredictable natural environment. From private investments in telecommunication systems, broadband networks, freight railroads, energy projects, and pipelines, to public investments in transportation, water, public buildings, and parks, America s infrastructure is the backbone of a healthy national economy. Infrastructure also supports American workers, providing millions of jobs each year to build and maintain the structures and facilities that power our economy. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that approximately 14 million Americans are employed in fields directly related to infrastructure. The Policies of Lenin and Stalin Essay Identified within this study is the argument that whilst many of Lenin s theories and practices were continued under Stalin, many were in fact developed and extended to new levels, possibly reflecting different motives: what Pipes refers to as Stalin s personality of excesses . Although for many years, numerous historians including both members of the Western school of thought (such as Pipes), along with the official Soviet historians of the time believed that Stalin was the natural heir of Lenin, opinions have changed with time. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this view, had Lenin lived, these policies would probably have been reversed as political and economic stability was restored, and certainly would not have given rise to the mass extermination of millions of peasants and party members, which prevailed under Stalin in the 1930s. In scrutinising the actions of Stalin, I have examined especially how they differed from those of Lenin, and in what ways the motives for similar actions changed. One aspect of continuity is reflected in the control and influence that both Lenin and Stalin had over their parties. In 1921, Lenin effectively destroyed democracy in the party through his ban of factionalism. Although this was used to end the problem of splits (during the crisis of the same year), many see it as a key factor in allowing Stalin to rise to power. Stalin often accused people of factionalism (e.g. Trotsky, Zinoviev, Kamenev) as a response to any challenges to his authority. It also created a situation that allowed the party leadership to do what it wanted and dismiss any opposition. Pipes argues that as a result of this, the Bolsheviks were carefully coerced into always following Lenin s will, and that his policy of democratic centralism was merely a façade like many of the other ... Typology is the taxonomic classification of characteristics found in buildings and urban places, according to their association with different groups, such as degrees of development, levels of formality, and thought processes. It stands to reason that 2 buildings with the same typology would have more similarities than they would differences. However this is not always the case. More often than not buildings with the same typology can differ greatly. Take for example the Bertram House and the Tubac House. These two buildings are both a house typology however they represent this same typology in varying ways some ways similar others vastly different. These differences have come about due to many influences such as style, lighting, form, spatial organization, plan of the building, school of thought, separation of private, semi private and public space, materiality, and focus of the building. This essay aims to theorize how buildings with the same typology can have such massive differences between them. There were several areas that the program aimed to improve including housing, transport, public parks or open spaces and protection of the environment. Housing: Prior to urban renewal, Pyrmont Ultimo had residents with similar incomes. However to achieve the goal of social equity plans were made for a mixed, high density, medium rise residential area. Approximately 7500 new dwellings have been constructed plus the renovation of 1400 existing dwellings. The aim was to cater for all household types such as families, couples and singles, provide affordable housing for middle to low income earners, provide residential dwellings with waterfront access and with water and city views, protect existing housing, retain a socially diverse residential population which includes all income groups, provide opportunities to live close to places of work and to create a high quality urban environment. The provision of affordable or public housing was an important aspect to consider in the process. Without some sort of intervention to provide this affordable housing, the attractiveness of living close to Sydney s CBD would only be reserved for high income earners as dwellings would be too expensive and rent would be too high. One of the largest and most obvious loopholes was that medicinal alcohol could still be prescribed by physicians. Many people would feign sickness in order to obtain whisky legally and reliably. This caused the sale of medical alcohol to insanely spike in sales, but even with the obvious implications these stats held, the government did not remove whisky as a prescribed medicine. Many farmers would also profit off of alcohol made of grapes and other juices. Since the government couldn t ban fruit juices, they would mix those fruits with a certain dry fruit used to create alcohol. Regardless of the dominance of dark imagery in this piece, the story is set initially in the supreme madness of the carnival season a rather exciting, uplifting setting where Montresor first lures a drunk Fortunato to the catacombs for his fateful demise. Thereafter, as they go to search for this supposed cask of Amontillado, the surrounding imagery begins to notably develop into long walls of piled skeletons with casks and puncheons. In summary, this imagery can be interpreted in the sense that in The Guest, there had always been this omniscient aura of desolation; the constant repetition of cold, distant imagery reinforces the very little development of Daru s circumstances. In the beginning, Daru is introduced as the exiled school teacher of an empty, frigid classroom, and as the story encloses with him being still alone. His mentality is static; he still feels as much seclusion from vast landscape. Whereas, in The Cask of Amontillado, the transition of imagery from an elated atmosphere of Fortunato drinking with his tight fitting parti striped dress..conical cap and bells to now a dreary ambience, as the characters trudge down vaults that are insufferably damp can ultimately signify Montresor s mental descent. These factors, however, differ from region to region because different properties determine them. They include laws, cultures, and community set up. The same elements described the position and roles of women in ancient Greece. The two major cities with contrasting perceptions of women were Athens and Spartan. These areas had different cultures and set ups. Athens was a developed city at the time and consisted of a number of scholars ranging from philosophers to artists. Spartan, on the other hand, had a military like lifestyle and not so many scholars. These differences shaped the roles of women in different aspects of the two communities. The difference in positions led several philosophers and writers to put down texts on this subject. This essay refers to these texts to compare the women of Athens and Sparta and show the general inequality they experienced. Women in Athens had close to zero rights. They lived in a society that was dominated by men who preferred to isolate them. Women could not participate in public and civic matters especially politics. Citizens were the only ones that could get involved in civic issues. At the time, only men could be citizens (O Pry 8). However, the Royal and a few freeborn women could make a contribution to political issues, a fact that displeased most men. • 22. The Problem Of Cover Songs There is a belief in today s society that grew from the past that a cover song is merely a copy or rip off of the original. This dilemma is discussed in an article by a man named Don Cusic, who has taught courses in the music business industry since the year of 1982 and is known as a pioneer in music business education. Cusic s other accomplishments and credibility come from being an historian on country music, a scholar and writer known worldwide, author of over 209 books and 500 articles, and having appeared on CMT programs, TNN shows, and two BBC series (Belmont University). The reason that cover songs are an important discussion in today s society is because there is an increase presently in cover song creation and also a steady increase of criticism on cover songs. This is due to the creation of increasingly popular video uploading sites on the internet like YouTube, where any person can go in, view a cover song and assert that it s bad because it isn t the original song. The article In Defense of Cover Songs is a strong argumentative article with weak points due to providing strong historical information on a cover song s influence on the creation of major known songs and artists and that it conveys a weak unprofessional bias opinion from the author Cusic, who argues that cover songs are a person s own interpretation of a song and that critics and fans should not belittle a cover song compared to an original song. • 24. What Is The Scale Of Nature In Paradise Lost Carly Merryman ENGL 328 Stoll 3 October 2014 Paradise Lost: Books V VI Milton s scale of nature, while appearing linear, allows the creatures within in it to ascend to God by steps, (V.512). This creates a dynamic scale that would enable a particular being the ability to move up and down the scale based on its behaviors, and align itself closer to God. However, an animal or a human can only climb so far. No matter how virtuous an animal was it could never surpass a human because it is lacking the spiritual essence that God awarded to man. Similarly, a human, while living, could never attain the same closeness to God as an angel. So while this allows for some degree of mobility, each sect of the scale is confined within the parameters that God set forth. If the creation was one first matter all as Raphael says to Adam then that would mean that all matter came from God. Not only does this reconcile science and religious beliefs because as Newton s First Law says, Matter can neither be created nor destroyed, but it also asserts that all matter begins as being inherently good. This explanation disqualifies ex nihlo because as science says there can be no absolute nothing. Milton s attempts to resolve the religion versus science issues are made stronger by his references to Galileo and astronomy. But Milton s version of the creation tackles the problem of absolute nothingness. If there were absolute nothingness before matter, then that nothingness would have had to ... From the mass destruction and finality of nuclear weapons, to the fool s bargain we ve made, and how we only reconcile after lives have been lost it is evident we must do everything in our power to prevent a nuclear war. We, as the human race, have made so many technological advancements to better our lives and improve our environment. However, when it comes to our weapons, it seems we may have gone too far. In the hopes of keeping us safe we ve developed stronger, better weapons. Whether it s to protect us from each other or from others, safety has always been the number one concern. Yet, with the use of nuclear weapons our safety is no longer ensured. A thousand times a thousand, times a thousand is a billion; in less than a century, our most fearful weapon has become a billion times more deadly (Sagan 656). As said by Sagan, our weapons have become exponentially stronger in such a short amount of time. We ve done this under the belief that it ll make us safer when, in fact, we don t really possess the knowledge to use such a destructive force. When it comes to nuclear weapons there is no going back. After the damage has been dealt it can t be undone. • 32. Liberalism Vs. Realism Essay Liberalism vs. Realism In a world where the drive for power and the will to dominate are held to be fundamental aspects of human nature as the Classical Realists would argue, the necessity for International Organizations cannot be dismissed as some liberalists argue. According to Iriye 2002, IGO s consists of institutions that come into existence through formal agreements among nations and represent their corresponding governments (Iriye 2002, Pg. 12 14). With that in mind, some liberalists argue that joining international organizations and institutions like the United Nations socializes some leaders so that their motivations are more benign (Dunne 2011, Pg. 103). I am convinced to a certain extent with this idea as I feel that even though classical realists argue that every man has within him the desire to rule or the desire for power (Dunne and Schmidt 2011, Pg. 90). When several leaders come together all from different IR theoretical backgrounds (liberalists, realists, constructivists) each decision they make comes collectively thus not leaving too much room for their individual biases based on their theoretical perspectives to impact important international relations issues negatively . Although I highly doubt if anything can be done to control the human desire for power accumulation as a classical realist would say, a part of the psyche of man, I do believe the liberalists argument to be of substance. Firstly, firms soon reach a state of overload. Deadlines are missed, standards and quality of work drop and a vicious cycle emerges and feeds on itself. This is a very common phenomenon with small and medium sized professional firms. They do not have the capacity to manage their growth or the peaks and valleys associated with the modern business world. Secondly, the firm is so consumed with meeting operational deadlines that it loses it s ability to keep up to date with latest best practice, legislation or other issues demanding new skills. In this case clients will soon recognise that mistakes are made due to lack of currency of skills. These are some of the more visible risks to firms who do not pay attention to the attraction, growth and retention of key talent. Beyond the visible, other manifestations of the problem arise. Staff morale declines because leadership talent is absent and this energy drop is transferred to the client. Internal politics and protection of territory or unwillingness to share information and surface problems affect the functioning of the firm. All of these things affect the ability of the organisation to offer great service and take advantage of opportunities to grow. This paper argues that the status of lower and middle class women deteriorated over time and only the Paleolithic period seemed to comprise of a gender neutral society. Any type technology to communicate with others, such as cell phones, instant messaging, and social networking sites, it deprives any visual or auditory cues of facial expression, body language, and voice dynamics (Cyr, Berman, Smith, 2014). When I got behind the vehicle I noticed they were traveling while touching the left center line, they also had a bunch of miscellaneous items hanging from their rear view mirror obstructing their view. I initiated my blue lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop. We pulled into the Mcdonald s parking lot off of Highway 90. Sgt. Fowler then pulled up and assisted me on my traffic stop. The vehicle consisted of three passengers. The driver was identified as Ricky Smith, the back passenger was identified as Tony Teauge, and the front passenger was Smith s mother. After asking Smith for a valid driver s license and proof of insurance, he stated he does not have a valid license and that it is suspended. • 45. Marine Mammal Protection Act Essay Environmental laws play an important role in maintaining the earth and its resources; their goal is to protect the environment. The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 is a great example of the government making an effort to protect marine life. The Marine Mammal Protection Act is also often referred to as MMPA. This act made it illegal for anyone without a permit to take marine mammals out of United States waters. This includes hunting, killing, capturing, and/or harassment of any marine mammal. On October 21, 1972 President Richard Nixon signed this policy into effect. Richard Nixon is an individual who has encouraged a lot more environmental laws to be passed. The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 was actually the first act that the United States Congress passed that specifically asked an ecosystem to approach a natural resource with caution. • 46. Literary Analysis of The Dancing Bear and Planting a... Analysis of William Frederick Witherington s short story The Dancing Bear 1. The initial impression gathered from the passage is bizarre and very dreamlike, perhaps chiefly because it is an excerpt from a novel or a larger literary work. Upon further analysis, the passage develops an eerily violent tone. The events appear to take place in the home of Dieter Bethge, during a stormy night while he is sleeping. Immediately the rain is described as falling with sodden fury , introducing the negative tone. Shortly after this description, Mrs. Hax adopts the persona of an animal stalking its prey. She methodically trimmed the glass out of the frame eerily without emotion, despite the fact that she is on her way to cause harm to Dieter, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, after the paragraphs describing Dieters dream end, the passage is written in a dreamlike manner. It seems that Bethge mistakes Mrs. Hax for the dancing bear, which is strange because her actions in the first paragraph are nothing like the graceful actions of the bear, and she does not want to fold him onto the fragrant, brilliant fur in a warm embrace but rather harm him. Analysis of Dana Gioia s Poem Planting a Sequoia 1. (b) The tone of the Planting a Sequoia prose passage is reflectively melancholy. It is not one of pure agonizing sadness, yet there are underling depressing qualities to the author s words. The purpose of the passage is to describe the death an individual, presumably the first born son of the narrator. The narrator is speaking to the Sequoia that he is planting. Each of the stanzas switch from a mood of death and a mood of life. The rain blacken[ing] the horizon , the dull gray skies and the old year coming to an end all work together to create the melancholy mood. The following stanza switches to a newer and livelier mood, including the celebration of the first son s birth, earth having more life to bear , the description of a green sapling rising among the twisted apple boughs and the promise of new fruit in other autumns . The promise of ne fruit describes the symbolic purpose of the tree. Although a life is lost, there is hope for future fruit , or life in the future. The third stanza begins with the ...
