Why Did the Discoveries of the Renaissance Make Little...
Why did the discoveries of the Renaissance make little practical difference to medical treatment
between c1500 c1700?
During the renaissance there were 3 significant figures, who were Andreas Vesalius who was famous
for his knowledge in anatomy, Ambroise Paré who was famous for his advances in surgery, and
William Harvey who was famous for working out how the body worked (physiology). These three
made extremely big and definitely important discoveries, but for different reasons never really at the
time came about to have an importance.
Andreas Vesalius published a book entitled The Fabric of the Human Body which was published
around the time that printing first came about. His specialism was anatomy, and in the book that he ...

William Harvey published the book called An Anatomical Account of the Motion of the Heart and
Blood in Animals which was officially published a fair time after the other two s books. He proved
that the heart acts as a pump by recirculating the blood, and showed that the blood flows around the
body and is carried away by the arteries and is carried back into the heart by the veins. This had a
limited impact because likewise to Vesalius, it did not make anyone healthier at the time, and it made
more of a long term impact on medicine. He had not found a way to practically cure people because
he had just made a book to further people s knowledge on how the body works. Although his book is
very useful for us nowadays, at the time people would not know how to approach it, and really wouldn
t make much of an impact on the people s health.
In conclusion, the main reason that I believe is the answer to not having much of a change in the
Renaissance is the people s attitude to change. For example, even though they knew deep down that
something wasn t working, they would still go ahead and use it because of the fact that it was what
they were used to. The great discoveries that were made by Vesalius, Paré and Harvey did not improve
people s health day to day, but instead made a serious impact in the general history of medicine. They
showed that the only persons attitude that was going to change was those of the rich and the

Nazi Germany And The Nazi Party Essay
Propaganda was significant in Germany in the period of 1933 to 1945 as it affected the people of
Germany greatly since propaganda was presented to people in their everyday lives in some manner or
form, making it inescapable. Propaganda was used mainly to display anti Semitic beliefs about Jews
and others who were thought of as irrelevant to Nazi Germany such as the disabled, mentally ill,
gypsies, communists and non Aryans who were all affected greatly by propaganda. Hitler and the Nazi
Party achieved this through their propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels who used every form of media
(radio, posters, newspapers, films, music and the arts) to portray the greatness of German culture.
Though, some of these forms of propaganda displayed different levels of effectiveness making some
forms more significant than others.
One of the most significant forms of propaganda in their impact on Germany was the use of radio.
Radios and radio licences summed to 90% of the ministry s expenses, which show how Hitler s
messages, speeches and Nazi related broadcasts reached such a broad audience of the German
population because radio was extremely accessible. Hitler made sure that radios were cheap enough
for every family to afford so that his speeches were publicised, giving Hitler more opportunity to
manipulate Germany and glorify the Nazi party. The significance of this form of propaganda is that
the radio was such a regular part of family life, and would ve been played frequently

Integrating Wellness Into Anesthesia School, And Give...
integrate wellness into anesthesia school, and give large discounts towards massage (Chipas et al.,
2012, p. 53).
Coping Mechanisms used among SRNAs For centuries, humans have pondered diverse mechanisms
of how to effectively deal with stress. The typical clinical setting of a SRNA consistently parallels the
conditions that define a stressful environment. Dr. William Halstead, the New York surgeon accredited
with popularizing regional anesthesia in the United States, used cocaine outside of the clinical setting
as a method of coping with the rigorous stressors of his career (McDonough, 1990). The stress
resulting from the SRNA education along with the DNP program can be a major source of
psychological stress for the SRNA. According to McDonough (1990), stress is an imbalance that seeks
to be relieved (p. 195). McDonough (1990) found that personalities and addictive tendencies of
individuals caused some individuals to abuse drugs. A survey was administered to 150 students to
assess addictive personality traits. Results indicated that anesthesia students had significantly higher
scores in excitement seeking behaviors. McDonough (1990) also suggested the creation of support
system to aid students in finding effective coping skills. Findings from this study provided the
anesthesia literature with insight into substance abuse among SRNAs. SRNAs develop various coping
mechanisms to relieve stressors. Kless (1989) studied the effectiveness of social support groups in

Short Story Of The Legend Of Rosewood
There once was a young prince named William, who lived in a grand castle on the edge of a small
village called Rosewood. It was the young princes twenty fifth birthday so he need to find a wife to

So he went all over the village looking for a young maiden to give his heart to. He searched near and

He stumbled onto a creepy house right next to a swamp. Even though he was scared to knock on the

The door opened slowly and there stood a brown headed girl with bright green eyes and rags for

The Current Five Step Program Enacted By The Department Of...
The current five step program enacted by the Department of Human Services is both inefficient and
permissive, calling for minimal action and few opportunities for the reconnection of a family. Often
times, case workers of the Department of Human Services (DHS) attempt to persuade young people
into removal and treatment with no clear understanding of the challenges that the family faces. Case
workers, although inclined to tell you they are there to keep the family together, often lead to tearing a
family apart because of the lack of assistance offered by DHS. A study done by Roan Fairbairn and
David Murray explored the gaps in care provided by DHS and its workers, with the outcomes of the
youth involved; most importantly targeting how case workers interacted with young people, stating
that strategies that attempt to engage young people in a dialogue about their individual circumstances,
including drug use, may be more effective than attempts to coerce them into treatment. They go on to
explain that practioners with the best intentions intervene and inadvertently cause more harm for the
clients than if they had not acted at all. (Fairbairn and Murray 18) Little is available in terms of a
nationwide change. In recent years, a call to action has been released with a keen eye on the lack of
progress made by DHS to change their system. The Children s Bureau is one of many organizations
that plan to tackle this issue head on. Upon review of DHS it was discovered that of the

Values Of Education
Values are virtues, ideals and qualities on which actions and beliefs are based. Values are guiding
principles that shape our world outlook, attitudes and conduct. (Dhunnoo. et al., n.d.). Human beings
have needs: physical and emotional. Some of these needs are catered at home while others at school or
religious institutions or the society itself. The school as an institution of education is responsible for
the cognitive and affective development of the learners. However in Mauritius, our primary school
curriculum has been focusing mainly on the cognitive domain since ages. Teaching is mostly done in a
traditional way; spoon feeding and rote learning since teachers are exam driven. They would teach
students in order to prepare them for the final exams at the end of the year, rather than for their whole
life. The main goal of the education system in our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First and foremost, the philosophical perspective will focus on the field of axiology (ethics), that is,
our notions of right , good , and wrong . In my point of view, right is to abide by rules and regulations
and good refers to a virtue, that is, something that is morally right while bad is something that is
unacceptable or morally wrong. For instance, I find that greeting family members, friends and
neighbours upon meeting them is something good while misbehaving with these people is something
that is considered bad . Wearing seat belts during driving is considered right because we are adhering
to the traffic laws. Similarly, I think that helping someone in need emotionally, physically and
financially is a good action. Hence, according to me, individuals should behave in a way that is
deemed well in society; responsible, honest, respectable, caring, friendly and

The Dark Knight And Inception
There are many successful directors who have produced at least one blockbuster film that is critically
acclaimed, and Christopher Nolan has been able to do this several times. Christopher Nolan began
directing movies in 1998 and has directed fourteen movies since 1998. The film critic Alissa
Wilkinson notes in her article The films of Christopher Nolan, explained, Nolan has shown himself to
be interested in both entertaining audiences and making them think, in pushing the boundaries of what
they believe a movie can and should be . Christopher Nolan also often deals with the subjects of time,
memory, and life philosophies that drive movies and characters. Two of Nolan s most prominent films
through his whole career have been the Dark Knight(2008) and Inception(2010). Both of the films
show how Nolan s movies end ambiguously and how each protagonists in his films has an antagonist
with opposite philosophies and beliefs.
Inception is a film that contains a protagonist and antagonists with opposing philosophical views and
beliefs. The movie includes examples of the belief that the world is real conflicting with the belief that
the world is a dream with death as the only way out. For instance in one part of the movie Dom is
argueing with Mal that they are in the real world as they both stand on the window ledge of opposing
buildings. Mal begs Dom to come with her as she says this world is a dream and that the only way to
wake up is by jumping.Dom tries to tell her that they are

An Analysis of the Choice Between Separated and Mixed...
An analysis of the choice between separated and mixed operation model for ICBC( London) Abstract:
Since the fifth wave of Merge and Acquisition in the 1990s, the global banking industries have
developed towards the direction of large scale, international and omnipotent banks. The mixed
operation of the commercial banks had already been the leading trend in the 21st century. With China
s entrance into WTO at the end of last century, the Chinese financial institutions, especially the
Chinese bank industries, are destined to participate in the global economy and to face the keen
competition from the financial conglomerate of the western developed countries. The commercial
banks still operate separately at present according to the law. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The competition among commercial banks increased. Especially, after joining WTO, Chinese state
owned commercial banks face more direct threat from foreign competition. However, China s
Commercial Bank Law clearly provides the current business model of commercial banks is separate
operation, separate supervision (Qu and Sun, 2006). Also as the renovation of technology and the
continuous development of the world s financial markets, the various financial derivatives have been
promoted. Meanwhile, the integration between different financial sectors gradually strengthened. The
original separated operation and supervision mechanism hinder the innovation of financial system and
enhancement of service efficiency. ICBC (London) is facing the level of competition in the financial
sector will become more intense, which requires the development under the British FSA s supervision.
It must keep the pace of the international financial banks. That means the mixed operation will be the
future development direction. To reach this argument, this paper will be based on the primary and
secondary data of operation performance of HSBC and ICBC operated in UK, and analyze the result
of comparison to conduct the appropriate choice of operation model for ICBC operating

The Importance Of Becoming An Oncology Radiologist
What is a butterfly? Most people might say that a butterfly is an insect with qualities of grace, beauty,
and peace. To me, however, when I think of butterflies, my grandma comes to my mind. My grandma
and I were very close, but in June of 2016, she passed away from multiple myeloma cancer. Before
she passed away, my grandma said, When you see a yellow butterfly, I want you to think of me . Her
death is what caused me to want to become an oncology radiologist. I want to be able to make an
impact in people s lives by aiding in the treatment of their cancer. Yellow butterflies have come into
my life in many ways since my grandma passed away. One of the most significant events was when
my mother and I were in Deadwood, South Dakota a few weeks after her death. We walked into our
favorite jewelry store that we have always visited when we have been in town. We didn t say anything

The American Colonization Society (ACS), also known as the American Society for Colonizing the

different, perceptions of what their role ought to be. So, there was a struggle among white and black
abolitionists about just what the proper role of a black abolitionist was in this movement. The tone of
this quote is questionable. Was Blight implying that black abolitionists had to refrain from deviating

of racism was still present and causing a rift between the black and white

Abolishment
Abolishment of the death penalty in America Every year, many prisoners on death row have to choose
their last meal before they face death. It is a very serious decision for inmates to make because it is the
last thing they got to savor and enjoy since they are moments away from execution. Prisoners on death
row, pay with their lives for the crimes they have committed. Instead of granting life sentences to
prisoners, federal courts punish prisoners by executing them. It is a long and difficult decision for
states to make, but based on the unjust manner cases are presented regarding prisoners of color, there
is a large number of innocent prisoners put to death row. This form of punishment is cruel and
unusual. It is cruel because it is a barbaric punishment that has no place in the 21st century. It is also
unusual since America is the only 1st world nation that still uses the death penalty. The death penalty
is also given to racial minorities the most. The issue of racial bias is greatly present in capital
punishment cases. The issue of putting someone with a mental disability on death row is always a
possibility. Although, the Supreme Court has ruled executions of the mentally ill illegal, there stands a
chance that the execution will end up happening. Considering all the possibilities of racial injustice
and mental health stigma, the death penalty should not be used as form of punishment in the U.S

Psychological Characters In Angela Duckworth s Grit
One may wonder, what indeed makes one successful and what has an effect on our psychological
traits? Angela Duckworth, in her non fiction book Grit, attempts to answer this question by making the
claim that grit, talent, and all other psychological traits relevant to success in life are influenced by
genes and also by experience .(82). Duckworth supports her claim through the use of anecdotal stories
and researchreferencing studies conducted by researchers. One example Duckworth uses includes the
Flynn Effect, (83) attributed to Jim Flynn. He analyzed IQ scores and its rapid growth through the
decades to explain how it is socially multiplied. In general, Duckworth attempts to convince the
audience that the characteristics making up a person come from one s genes as well as personal
experiences. I am in agreement with Duckworth s claim, because I have found multiple sources of
evidence that supports it. Also, her claim is the only logical explanation for our developing
psychological traits and its effect towards success. First we must explore the Flynn Effect and what it
means to us as a society.
People as a whole advance over time because of the world around us and the The Flynn effect is a
sound example of that. I believe in this Flynn Effect because Jim Flynn makes logical sense out of the
rapidly increasing IQ scores. Duckworth introduces the the Flynn Effect in Grit (83), named after Jim
Flynn referring to exponentially increasing IQ scores over the past century.

The supermarkets changed the dynamics of agrofood trade, production and employment as
supermarkets focused on providing better quality products to the consumers at cheaper rates which is
offcourse a good thing but due to this the suppliers put extra burden on the horticulture firms in South
Africa and that burden ultimately delegated to the lowest unit of the hierarchy of the firms, i.e., the
workers. Along with this I have found that Social and Economic crises in South Africa are not only the
result of bad effects of Global value chain and Global Product Networks but also the result of
Apartheid . Apartheid is a former social system, followed in South Africa, in which blacks and other
racial groups did not have the same political, economical and social rights like whites and were treated
differently from white people. Under apartheid the South Africa was classified into four different
races, i.e., the blacks, whites, coloured and Indian/Asians. In the whole country 80% of population

Spearheaded by Sophomore Abby Snyder, this group of students are fighting to create an inclusive
community where students that identity as transgender can feel comfortable and have a safe place to
use the restroom. After talking with Abby Snyder and Kelly Doran, the assistant director for capital
planning and construction at Colby, it is clear that there are many possible ways of implementing
gender neutral bathrooms on Colby s campus. For example, a short term solution would be to to make
all bathrooms in the dorms coed. Since Hillside buildings only have space for one bathroom on each
floor. As a result, when someone whose sex does not correspond with the gender indicated on the
bathroom sign, they have to go downstairs. In these buildings, if everyone is okay with making these
bathrooms coed, it should be allowed by the school for them to do so. This acts as a quick and easy fix
that benefits the transgender community as well as the cisgender community because it means that
men and women do not need to travel to certain floors to use the appropriate bathroom. Since a
majority of this school states that they feel comfortable with using bathrooms with someone of a
different sex or gender, the Colby rule preventing coed bathrooms should be revoked. Secondly, if a
dorm has two bathrooms on one floor, they could make one of these bathrooms gender neutral to
benefit those who do not mind it, and then bathrooms for specific genders could alternate by floor. A
third possible idea would be to have student indicate on their housing application whether or not they
are comfortable sharing a bathroom with another sex or gender. This way, multiple dorms could have
all gender neutral bathrooms and only have people who feel comfortable with it, while other dorms
could have people who are not comfortable with it. These are a few of many possible ways to

American Culture In Nigeria
Paper 2 Nigerian society changed significantly with the introduction of European values. Of those
changes one of the greatest was the introduction of individualism, rather than the pride people had in
the tribal system. The rise of individualism changes every society, but the Nigerian society was greatly
affected and saw more Nigerian trying to leave to live in other countries with greater opportunities.
One example of this would be Elvis in the short story Graceland, who wanted to move to America to
pursue a career as an Elvis impersonator. This profession is an odd one, especially considering the
Nigerian culture, but with the rise in individualism there is more in an emphasis on individual dreams

Man And Leapor s Essay On Woman
Optimism vs. Pessimism in Pope s Essay on Man and Leapor s Essay on Woman
Both Alexander Pope s Essay on Man, Epistle 2 and Mary Leapor s Essay on Woman expound the
fatalist contention that neither man nor woman can win, as each individual exists in a world of trade
offs. Yet, by each author s singular technique of sculpting his ideas with the literary tools of contrast,
argument, and syntax, the cores of the two essays turn back to back, evolving into distinct, but
contrary perspectives of Man s (in respect to mankind) and Woman s existence. Pope asserts that a
profusion of trade offs establish a certain equilibrium point where Man hangs on this isthmus of a

combines two impartial words that seem to stand in a paradox as a unit rudely suggests low class and
lack of refinement (but lacks the moral judgment of crudely ) while great indicates superiority,
prominence and nobility (without implying self righteous conceit, as grand might have done). Paired,
however, each phrase ( Darkly wise and rudely great ) carries on its own distinctive hybridized
meaning. Darkly wise, comes to depict an indefinite sensibility and rudely great, denotes an unrefined
dignity. Much simpler contrasts between black and white, dark and light, strength and weakness might
have sufficed, but, efforting to capture the depth of Man s character, Pope creates contrasts that escape
the banality of common antonyms and espouse the sundry spectrums of qualities that comprise Man s
character. By these contrasts, Pope was able to construct his thesis, case in point, by illustrating the
creative conglomeration that propitiously sets Man apart from God and beast.

The Seventh Seal Analysis
The Seventh Seal follows the knight, Antonius Block, his squire Jon, his actor friends Mia, Jof and
their son Michael, as well several other members of their acting troupe. Antonius and his squire have
just returned home from the Crusades, during which Antonius had become disenchanted with life and
began to feel abandoned by God. At the beginning of the film, the knight is met on a beach by Death
in the form of a man. Believing Death has come to kill him, Antonius challenges him to a game of
chess which continues throughout the film. Along the way home, Antonius befriends several members
of an acting troupe and invites them back to his castle in an attempt to save them from the plague
ravaging the country. In their travels, they meet the Flagellants, who march through towns in a group
whipping themselves in an attempt to repent for the sins they believe brought the plague on. Jof is the
only other character able to see the chess match with Death. Antonius intentionally distracts Death so
that Jof and his family may escape. However, Antonius loses the match in the next move. In the final
scene of the movie, Jof sees Death, the knight and his followers dancing in a field.
A central theme in The Seventh Seal is the ever looming presence of death in the lives of medieval
Europeans. The characters in The Seventh Seal are all presented with the reality of their mortality as
they face the horrors of the plague spreading throughout the country. In the movie, Death is embodied

Social Media And Its Impact On New Media
The widespread use of social media and the resulting transition to a system dependent on new media
has fundamentally changed the ways in which we communicate. One significant aspect of
communication that has been drastically altered is the news media and their presence on social media
sites such as Twitter primarily as a result of our changing interactions with and procurement of the
news. Over the course of the last semester, I worked as an Assistant Producer for both Unify and
Activism Media, which are sister companies. One of the most significant experiences I had during my
internship was in my work as a journalist for Activism Media. I was assigned to cover the public s
responses to the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent protests following the failure to indict
both Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantaleo (also known as the Shut it Down protests). My experiences
during this assignment illustrated a number of theoretical concepts in the media studies field chiefly:
citizen journalism, agenda setting, and framing. The creation of the printing press and news media
significantly altered the world s ability to communicate. Many scholars have argued that with the
printing press came a transformation of the public sphere and the public s ability to discuss and
identify societal issues. Jürgen Habermas, a German sociologist and philosopher, posits that early
modern capitalism created conditions for this bourgeois public sphere to emerge. Numerous
conditions permitted

Nitrates And Nitrites Lab Report
Factors:
There is some variation as to the levels of concentration in urine in regard to age and health status of
individuals. Certain disease processes and age, factor into the excretion of nitrates and nitrites via the
urinary tract. For instance, infants pose a greater susceptibility for toxicity. The presence of bacteria in
their gastrointestinal tract elicit a greater conversion percentage of nitrates to nitrites. This conversion
creates more nitric oxide metabolites which can cause a reduction in available oxygen in the blood.
The elimination of nitrates and nitrites concentrated in urine may give an indication of the synthases
taking place in the body. Concentration levels may be an indicator for disease processes and may be

Nitrate is not combustible and accelerates the burning when in contact with combustible material. A
common mistake is to boil water that contains high levels of nitrate. For example, the (CCAMP, 2013)
explains that if there is a high concentration of nitrate in drinking water, an immediate solution is to
use an alternative source of drinking, cooking, and mixing baby formula. The best recommended
source of water would be to use bottled water.
To reduce the chances of exposure of high levels of nitrate concentration the most common way is
reverse osmosis. For instance, treating technologies that remove nitrate include reverse osmosis, ion
exchange, and distillation (CCAMP, 2013). Using these methods to treat the water will reduce the
levels of nitrate that are in the drinking water. Reverse osmosis will remove 83 92% of nitrates in the
drinking water (Linton, 2014). By using this method, the nitrate levels will be reduced enough so that
it can be acceptable to drink.

The Abuse Of Prescription Neuro Enhancers
Throughout my college experience I have seen many students turn to prescription drugs so they can
stay awake longer and increase their ability to focus. When caffeine and energy drinks no longer cut it,
many students believe stimulants will improve their grades. I first learned of cognitive enhancement
drugs (CEDs), such as Ritalin, Adderall, and Provigil, in high school as a secret advantage students
would use during testing like the ACT. However, in college these CEDs are much more widely used,
usually as recreational study drugs, due to their ability to help students focus their energy and
concentration to a much higher level than normal. In this paper, I will argue that 1) the abuse of
prescription neuro enhancers cannot be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If everybody used performance enhancing drugs the net result would be twofold: nobody would gain
competitive advantage and a number of side effects would be suffered. In other words, the outcome
would be an increase in human suffering with no personal benefit, which no sane person could
possibly will. Furthermore, by applying the categorical imperative to this situation, we come to realize
the use of CEDs would be counterproductive towards one s imperfect duty to cultivate one s talents.
The college situation in particular is intended to provide intellectual and social stimulation in order to
personally develop and thus failing to cultivate personal talents does not promote the goal of treating
one s self as an intrinsically valuable being. When CEDs are used, one is choosing to miss out on the
process of psychological development that comes with challenges in order to rapidly alleviate the
frustration that we experience when faced with the inevitable challenges of college and adult life. As a
maxim the usage of smart drugs not only eliminates any competitive advantages academically and
causes mental damage, but it also decreases one s cultivation of talents. Therefore, this maxim as a
categorical imperative would be contradictory to one s desire to be successful and happy. The use of
CEDs to achieve success would be morally impermissible according to Kant, for this action would fail
to follow Kant s duty of self development by evading the cultivation of our

Betrayal In Macbeth Essay
Regarded as the darkest and most powerful work of Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Macbeth (1606),
follows the corruption of high nobility and the potent consequences that come with choosing evil over
good. Shakespeare tells the story of a courageous Scottish gentleman named Macbeth, the Thane of
Glamis, who receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become the Thane of Cawdor and
King of Scotland. Consumed by this insight and overwhelming ambition, Macbeth s actions snowball
into a plot of blood, madness, betrayal and the supernatural. Shakespeare used characterisation,

This apparition which Macbeth states in his soliloquy is just the brink of multiple hallucinations that

Macbeth has a nervous breakdown at a feast, shocked by seeing the gory ghost of Banquo, he realises
that he must acknowledge his sins and well as contemplating Macduff s future, I m in blood stepp d in

down the path of murder and sin.

Stress Management
Responses to stressors present different impacts on each individual. Stressors have a physical and
psychological effect on people although some people seem to be much less effected by stress being
able to withstand high levels of stress almost as if there daily lives depend on it. Even though it is
accepted stress is with us from are waking moment to the minute we sleep, almost all individuals

Here we will look at the different approaches plus the strengths and weaknesses of these methods.
PHYSICAL METHOD OF STRESS MANAGEMENT.
Drugs.
Strengths.
Prescribed drug treatment seems to be the strongest source of psychological stress control. Anti
depressants and BZs are prescribed to reduce the feelings of anxiety or depression induced through
stress induced illness. The effect of the drugs is simple; they suitably block or reduce the activity of
the brains neurotransmitter for release of serotonin, or directly reduce activity in the pathways leading
to the nervous system around the body, not allowing blood pressure or the heart rate to rise, as it is
these bodily systems that influence the feelings of anxiety. Once blocked or suppressed the individual
when faced with a stressor will feel much calmer and able to cope with the unwanted stressor
presented to them.
Weaknesses.
All drugs present side effects which are usually unpleasant. Most common side effects are nausea,
dizziness and stomach upset. Other side effects experienced are drowsiness and subdued awareness,
these are more serious side effects which can cause a threat to personal safety whilst driving or if you
are in a job that requires you to operate machinery. Drugs only treat the physical feelings experienced
from stress and not the psychological cause so also

Review of UKSports Anti-Doping Policy Essay
The two major justifications for the ban on the use of performance enhancing drugs in sport relate to
the protection of the health of athletes, and the maintenance of fair competition

The main objective of the U.K. Statement of the Anti doping Policy stems from this. The aim is to
ensure that the various governing bodies of sport in the United Kingdom have consistent and regular
sets of policies and regulations in order to protect the rights of athletes to compete drug free (U.K.

Renewable vs. Non-Renewable Energy Resources
Renewable Vs. Non renewable Energy Resources: Environmental and Economical Advantages and

Imagine a life without washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, computers, televisions, lights, and cars.
Imagine a planet so polluted that smog is in the air so bad that one cannot see very far, lakes and
streams are poisoned, and land so badly scarred from people trying to find more energy sources. One
day this may be a reality if we do not do something to change how we use our energy resources. This
may be the case if society keeps using non renewable energy resources at its current consumption rate.

Renewable Energy Resources
Pollution
Renewable energy resources are clean because they not only come from the environment but there is
no need to change chemically the source in order to get usable energy. The sun for instance gives off
heat, which warms our planet. This same heat can be used to warm water pipes, which can heat a
business or home. This definitely requires no equipment to acquire this energy. The sun as a resource
can also excite particles in a solar collector. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, solar collectors
are various devices used in the absorption of solar radiation to heat water or produce electricity,
(Dictionary and Thesauras Marriam Webster Online, 2007 2008). These excited particles generate
electricity. There does not necessarily have to be direct sunlight, for this process. Even on a cloudy
day, energy can be produced though lower than on a sunny day. Since the sun will be here for another
million to billion years from now this process can continue forever. Using the sun as an energy source
means that no pollution will be generated from it being converted into usable energy.
Wind power is another renewable energy source. Wind is generated from the sun heating the Earth.
Humans have been harnessing the power in wind for hundreds of years. Humans have used it

Jack London s To Build a Fire
Nature is always pushing man to his limits. When man heeds the warning signs that nature has to offer
and those warnings of other men, he is most likely to conquer nature. When he ignores these
warnings, nature is sure to defeat man. To build a fire is a prime example of this scenario. In the short
story, To Build a Fire by Jack London, an inexperienced traveler in the Yukon travels alone with his

his quest to reach his friends. The man s inexperience with traveling in the cold subzero temperatures

Furthermore, when he is sure he will lose his toes and fingers, he does not lose sight of his most

surveillance does create tension as the audience do not know what will be happening as the CCTV

In the opening of the film we as an audience are introduced to a female CCTV operator who happens

Colonial Avoidance Of Duties
How did the British attempt to handle colonial avoidance of duties? While reading chapter I found
myself comparing America to a teenage girl and Britain to a mother who is struggling to keep her
child undercontrol. I think I felt this way because America really hated being told what to do by their
mother country. The catalyst that eventually led to the eroding relationship between the two entities
really was the French and Indian War because Britain was left with a giant debt while America was
left with the satisfaction of winning and more land than ever. Britain called for stricter rule of colonial
lands this angers the colonists because they believe these actions go against their rights as English
citizens. Britain first tried to rein in control with the Proclamation of 1763 which prohibited white
settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. They followed this with the Quartering Acts which
required all colonists to provide supplies and barracks for soldiers. This really infuriated colonists who
in turn acted like teenagers. They paid no mind to what Britain proclaimed and moved to those lands

The Theories Of Human Development
Theories of Human development are relevant and matter in the real world . In my clinical practice as a
psychologist in training, I have found human development theories to be very useful in
conceptualizing and understanding my client s distress. I used theoretical frameworks that are based
on theories of human development to guide my interventions in therapy. For example, as a brief
psychodynamic clinician, I look to Freud s theory of anxiety to understand how distress was
developed for my clients and then based on this information I created interventions that assist me in
dismantling my client s defenses in order to reduce their anxiety. It had also guided my behaviors and
actions in therapy so that I do not harm my clients.
Also, drawing from attachment theory, my role as a clinician is to assess the attachment patterns of my
client as well as see how these patterns continued to play out in therapy with me. In role is to provide
my clients with a new experience and a different way of relating and connecting to others. Given my
work, I believe that theories of human development matter and have a real application in the world.
For this essay, I will discuss why theories of human development are relevant and how they matter in
the real world.
Theories of human development are relevant at the individual level because it helped us make sense
and make meaning of our lives. As discussed in Bronfenbrenner s model, the child or the individual is

Gender Violence And Sexual Violence In Fairy Tales
The frequent use of connotations in the tales helps readers to associate the reality with the fantasy.
Some fairy tales implicitly conveys some content that are not so suitable for children, yet they do not
directly tell the message by showing all the violent scenes. As the adults somehow find it hard to tell
the truth to their children, they need a tale like Little Red Cap to introduce a sensitive but important
concept to the next generation. Scholars suggest that Little Red Cap is a story about rape (Cashdan, 9).
Little Red Cap and her grandma are consumed by the aggressive wolf. The active role of a male preys

  • 2. Why Did the Discoveries of the Renaissance Make Little... Why did the discoveries of the Renaissance make little practical difference to medical treatment between c1500 c1700? During the renaissance there were 3 significant figures, who were Andreas Vesalius who was famous for his knowledge in anatomy, Ambroise Paré who was famous for his advances in surgery, and William Harvey who was famous for working out how the body worked (physiology). These three made extremely big and definitely important discoveries, but for different reasons never really at the time came about to have an importance. Andreas Vesalius published a book entitled The Fabric of the Human Body which was published around the time that printing first came about. His specialism was anatomy, and in the book that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... William Harvey published the book called An Anatomical Account of the Motion of the Heart and Blood in Animals which was officially published a fair time after the other two s books. He proved that the heart acts as a pump by recirculating the blood, and showed that the blood flows around the body and is carried away by the arteries and is carried back into the heart by the veins. This had a limited impact because likewise to Vesalius, it did not make anyone healthier at the time, and it made more of a long term impact on medicine. He had not found a way to practically cure people because he had just made a book to further people s knowledge on how the body works. Although his book is very useful for us nowadays, at the time people would not know how to approach it, and really wouldn t make much of an impact on the people s health. In conclusion, the main reason that I believe is the answer to not having much of a change in the Renaissance is the people s attitude to change. For example, even though they knew deep down that something wasn t working, they would still go ahead and use it because of the fact that it was what they were used to. The great discoveries that were made by Vesalius, Paré and Harvey did not improve people s health day to day, but instead made a serious impact in the general history of medicine. They showed that the only persons attitude that was going to change was those of the rich and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nazi Germany And The Nazi Party Essay Propaganda was significant in Germany in the period of 1933 to 1945 as it affected the people of Germany greatly since propaganda was presented to people in their everyday lives in some manner or form, making it inescapable. Propaganda was used mainly to display anti Semitic beliefs about Jews and others who were thought of as irrelevant to Nazi Germany such as the disabled, mentally ill, gypsies, communists and non Aryans who were all affected greatly by propaganda. Hitler and the Nazi Party achieved this through their propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels who used every form of media (radio, posters, newspapers, films, music and the arts) to portray the greatness of German culture. Though, some of these forms of propaganda displayed different levels of effectiveness making some forms more significant than others. One of the most significant forms of propaganda in their impact on Germany was the use of radio. Radios and radio licences summed to 90% of the ministry s expenses, which show how Hitler s messages, speeches and Nazi related broadcasts reached such a broad audience of the German population because radio was extremely accessible. Hitler made sure that radios were cheap enough for every family to afford so that his speeches were publicised, giving Hitler more opportunity to manipulate Germany and glorify the Nazi party. The significance of this form of propaganda is that the radio was such a regular part of family life, and would ve been played frequently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Integrating Wellness Into Anesthesia School, And Give... integrate wellness into anesthesia school, and give large discounts towards massage (Chipas et al., 2012, p. 53). Coping Mechanisms used among SRNAs For centuries, humans have pondered diverse mechanisms of how to effectively deal with stress. The typical clinical setting of a SRNA consistently parallels the conditions that define a stressful environment. Dr. William Halstead, the New York surgeon accredited with popularizing regional anesthesia in the United States, used cocaine outside of the clinical setting as a method of coping with the rigorous stressors of his career (McDonough, 1990). The stress resulting from the SRNA education along with the DNP program can be a major source of psychological stress for the SRNA. According to McDonough (1990), stress is an imbalance that seeks to be relieved (p. 195). McDonough (1990) found that personalities and addictive tendencies of individuals caused some individuals to abuse drugs. A survey was administered to 150 students to assess addictive personality traits. Results indicated that anesthesia students had significantly higher scores in excitement seeking behaviors. McDonough (1990) also suggested the creation of support system to aid students in finding effective coping skills. Findings from this study provided the anesthesia literature with insight into substance abuse among SRNAs. SRNAs develop various coping mechanisms to relieve stressors. Kless (1989) studied the effectiveness of social support groups in reducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Current Five Step Program Enacted By The Department Of... The current five step program enacted by the Department of Human Services is both inefficient and permissive, calling for minimal action and few opportunities for the reconnection of a family. Often times, case workers of the Department of Human Services (DHS) attempt to persuade young people into removal and treatment with no clear understanding of the challenges that the family faces. Case workers, although inclined to tell you they are there to keep the family together, often lead to tearing a family apart because of the lack of assistance offered by DHS. A study done by Roan Fairbairn and David Murray explored the gaps in care provided by DHS and its workers, with the outcomes of the youth involved; most importantly targeting how case workers interacted with young people, stating that strategies that attempt to engage young people in a dialogue about their individual circumstances, including drug use, may be more effective than attempts to coerce them into treatment. They go on to explain that practioners with the best intentions intervene and inadvertently cause more harm for the clients than if they had not acted at all. (Fairbairn and Murray 18) Little is available in terms of a nationwide change. In recent years, a call to action has been released with a keen eye on the lack of progress made by DHS to change their system. The Dark Knight And Inception There are many successful directors who have produced at least one blockbuster film that is critically acclaimed, and Christopher Nolan has been able to do this several times. Christopher Nolan began directing movies in 1998 and has directed fourteen movies since 1998. The film critic Alissa Wilkinson notes in her article The films of Christopher Nolan, explained, Nolan has shown himself to be interested in both entertaining audiences and making them think, in pushing the boundaries of what they believe a movie can and should be . Christopher Nolan also often deals with the subjects of time, memory, and life philosophies that drive movies and characters. Two of Nolan s most prominent films through his whole career have been the Dark Knight(2008) and Inception(2010). Both of the films show how Nolan s movies end ambiguously and how each protagonists in his films has an antagonist with opposite philosophies and beliefs. Inception is a film that contains a protagonist and antagonists with opposing philosophical views and beliefs. The movie includes examples of the belief that the world is real conflicting with the belief that the world is a dream with death as the only way out. An analysis of the choice between separated and mixed operation model for ICBC( London) Abstract: Since the fifth wave of Merge and Acquisition in the 1990s, the global banking industries have developed towards the direction of large scale, international and omnipotent banks. The mixed operation of the commercial banks had already been the leading trend in the 21st century. Prisoners on death row, pay with their lives for the crimes they have committed. Instead of granting life sentences to prisoners, federal courts punish prisoners by executing them. Angela Duckworth, in her non fiction book Grit, attempts to answer this question by making the claim that grit, talent, and all other psychological traits relevant to success in life are influenced by genes and also by experience .(82). Duckworth supports her claim through the use of anecdotal stories and researchreferencing studies conducted by researchers. One example Duckworth uses includes the Flynn Effect, (83) attributed to Jim Flynn. He analyzed IQ scores and its rapid growth through the decades to explain how it is socially multiplied. In general, Duckworth attempts to convince the audience that the characteristics making up a person come from one s genes as well as personal experiences. I am in agreement with Duckworth s claim, because I have found multiple sources of evidence that supports it. Also, her claim is the only logical explanation for our developing psychological traits and its effect towards success. First we must explore the Flynn Effect and what it means to us as a society. People as a whole advance over time because of the world around us and the The Flynn effect is a sound example of that. After talking with Abby Snyder and Kelly Doran, the assistant director for capital planning and construction at Colby, it is clear that there are many possible ways of implementing gender neutral bathrooms on Colby s campus. For example, a short term solution would be to to make all bathrooms in the dorms coed. Since Hillside buildings only have space for one bathroom on each floor. As a result, when someone whose sex does not correspond with the gender indicated on the bathroom sign, they have to go downstairs. In these buildings, if everyone is okay with making these bathrooms coed, it should be allowed by the school for them to do so. This acts as a quick and easy fix that benefits the transgender community as well as the cisgender community because it means that men and women do not need to travel to certain floors to use the appropriate bathroom. Since a majority of this school states that they feel comfortable with using bathrooms with someone of a different sex or gender, the Colby rule preventing coed bathrooms should be revoked. Secondly, if a dorm has two bathrooms on one floor, they could make one of these bathrooms gender neutral to benefit those who do not mind it, and then bathrooms for specific genders could alternate by floor. A third possible idea would be to have student indicate on their housing application whether or not they are comfortable sharing a bathroom with another sex or gender. When Macbeth has a nervous breakdown at a feast, shocked by seeing the gory ghost of Banquo, he realises that he must acknowledge his sins and well as contemplating Macduff s future, I m in blood stepp d in so far, that, should I wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o er (III.IV.CXXXVI) Macbeth comes to terms with his sins and from this, realises that the choice or either trying to repent for his crimes, or continuing are both equally challenging. This choice calls into question Macbeth s character, and shows that his ambition truly does override anything else, as he chooses to continue down the path of murder and sin. Prescribed drug treatment seems to be the strongest source of psychological stress control. Anti depressants and BZs are prescribed to reduce the feelings of anxiety or depression induced through stress induced illness. The effect of the drugs is simple; they suitably block or reduce the activity of the brains neurotransmitter for release of serotonin, or directly reduce activity in the pathways leading to the nervous system around the body, not allowing blood pressure or the heart rate to rise, as it is these bodily systems that influence the feelings of anxiety. Once blocked or suppressed the individual when faced with a stressor will feel much calmer and able to cope with the unwanted stressor presented to them. Weaknesses. All drugs present side effects which are usually unpleasant. Most common side effects are nausea, dizziness and stomach upset. Other side effects experienced are drowsiness and subdued awareness, these are more serious side effects which can cause a threat to personal safety whilst driving or if you are in a job that requires you to operate machinery. Review of UKSports Anti-Doping Policy Essay The two major justifications for the ban on the use of performance enhancing drugs in sport relate to the protection of the health of athletes, and the maintenance of fair competition (Black, 1996; as cited by Waddington, 2000) The main objective of the U.K. Statement of the Anti doping Policy stems from this. The aim is to ensure that the various governing bodies of sport in the United Kingdom have consistent and regular sets of policies and regulations in order to protect the rights of athletes to compete drug free (U.K. Statement of Anti doping Policy). Non renewable Energy Resources: Environmental and Economical Advantages and Disadvantages Imagine a life without washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, computers, televisions, lights, and cars. Imagine a planet so polluted that smog is in the air so bad that one cannot see very far, lakes and streams are poisoned, and land so badly scarred from people trying to find more energy sources. One day this may be a reality if we do not do something to change how we use our energy resources. This also costs much money to dig or drill, clean or extract these sources, and to ship them out to other companies. Renewable Energy Resources Pollution Renewable energy resources are clean because they not only come from the environment but there is no need to change chemically the source in order to get usable energy. The sun for instance gives off heat, which warms our planet. This same heat can be used to warm water pipes, which can heat a business or home. This definitely requires no equipment to acquire this energy. The sun as a resource can also excite particles in a solar collector. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, solar collectors are various devices used in the absorption of solar radiation to heat water or produce electricity, (Dictionary and Thesauras Marriam Webster Online, 2007 2008). These excited particles generate electricity. There does not necessarily have to be direct sunlight, for this process. Even on a cloudy day, energy can be produced though lower than on a sunny day. Since the sun will be here for another million to billion years from now this process can continue forever. Using the sun as an energy source means that no pollution will be generated from it being converted into usable energy. Wind power is another renewable energy source. Red road does engage the audience into watching what the actual character is watching with CCTV, which makes us, feel apart of the story and makes us want to keep on watching. CCTV surveillance does create tension as the audience do not know what will be happening as the CCTV footage is basically showing live events. In the opening of the film we as an audience are introduced to a female CCTV operator who happens to be Jackie. With this opening it kind of lets us know that this film is related to CCTV and that this female CCTV operator Jackie has a key part in the film. While reading chapter I found myself comparing America to a teenage girl and Britain to a mother who is struggling to keep her child undercontrol. I think I felt this way because America really hated being told what to do by their mother country. The catalyst that eventually led to the eroding relationship between the two entities really was the French and Indian War because Britain was left with a giant debt while America was left with the satisfaction of winning and more land than ever. Britain called for stricter rule of colonial lands this angers the colonists because they believe these actions go against their rights as English citizens. Britain first tried to rein in control with the Proclamation of 1763 which prohibited white settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. They followed this with the Quartering Acts which required all colonists to provide supplies and barracks for soldiers. This really infuriated colonists who in turn acted like teenagers. In my clinical practice as a psychologist in training, I have found human development theories to be very useful in conceptualizing and understanding my client s distress. I used theoretical frameworks that are based on theories of human development to guide my interventions in therapy. For example, as a brief psychodynamic clinician, I look to Freud s theory of anxiety to understand how distress was developed for my clients and then based on this information I created interventions that assist me in dismantling my client s defenses in order to reduce their anxiety. It had also guided my behaviors and actions in therapy so that I do not harm my clients. Also, drawing from attachment theory, my role as a clinician is to assess the attachment patterns of my client as well as see how these patterns continued to play out in therapy with me. In role is to provide my clients with a new experience and a different way of relating and connecting to others. Given my work, I believe that theories of human development matter and have a real application in the world. For this essay, I will discuss why theories of human development are relevant and how they matter in the real world. Theories of human development are relevant at the individual level because it helped us make sense and make meaning of our lives.
