Domestic Violence Speech
Domestic Violence Against Women
Introduction
On May 2, 1982, Michael Connell visited his estranged wife Karen and their son Ward. Karen and
Michael had been separated for more than a year but were seeing each other. A friend of Ward s also
visiting and the four of them were going on a picnic. They never made it. At around noon, Karen
staggered from the house, bleeding profusely from the neck. She collapsed into a neighbor s arms,
gasping that her husband had stabbed her and was still in the house with their 5 year old son and his
friend. The South Pasadena Police arrived on the scene to investigate. After several attempts to make
contact with Michael or the children failed, they contacted the L.A. Sherriff s SWAT team. The ...

To help determine if you have been a victim unaware let s define domestic violence or sometimes
called intimate partner violence (IPV) to determine if you or someone you know or love has ever been
a victim of domestic violence. Domestic violence as defined by The U.S. Office on Violence Against
Women (OVW) is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain
or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. The definition adds that domestic
violence can happen to anyone regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or gender , and that
it takes many forms, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional or psychological abuse, and
verbal abuse.
Type of abuse
To gain a better understanding of these different types of forms that abuse may have let s characterize
the most common ones in detail:
Physical abuse is abuse involving contact intended to cause feelings of intimidation, pain, injury or
other physical suffering or bodily harm. It often includes hitting, kicking, biting, shoving, restraining,
slapping, punching, choking, and other types of contact that will result in physical injury to the victim.
Physical abuse can also include behaviors such as denying the victim of medical care when needed,
depriving the victim of sleep or other functions necessary to live, or forcing the victim to engage in
drug/alcohol against her will.
Sexual abuse is any situation in which force is used to

The Impact Of Digital Technology On The Creation Of...
Henry Jenkins describes convergence as a situation where multiple media systems coexist and where
media content flows fluidly across them (2006: 282). An important part of the information transferred
across platforms are the techniques utilised in creation. Digital technologies have no doubt had a large
impact on moving images and how they are developed and produced in the modern world. There has
been the introduction of inexpensive consumer digital recording devices, and the ability to create a
video with mobile phones rather than needing a separate dedicated device. This has led to growth in
the creation of amateur moving images on platforms such as YouTube in a variety of forms. As well as
inspiring the creation of new areas of production, digital advances have enabled further evolution in
more traditional areas. Early cinematic pioneers dabbled with in camera trickery in order to create
fantastical scenes and amaze viewers, and this principle carries forward to today. Matt Reeve s Dawn
of the Planet of the Apes (2014) is a good example of the intriguing applications of digital technology
in order to achieve these old goals in a potentially better way. As with the introduction of any new way
to achieve a goal, the opportunities available to content creators have multiplied with the growth in the
variety of digital techniques. The power particular innovations in technology can have in their
contribution is perhaps underlined by the impact they have had in less revered

John Fahey s Hexadecimal Color
The hexadecimal color code #ffce00 is a shade of yellow. This particular shade of yellow can be
mentally associated with happiness, the sun, knowledge or wisdom, but in the past few decades, it has
been widely recognized as the trademark yellow border around the edge of every National Geographic
magazine. Since its first publication in 1888, National Geographic s rectangular yellow frame has
served as the brand s logo and has become as much of an icon as the golden arches. A business cannot
reach icon level without a masterful director and for the National Geographic Society (NGS), the
master was Mr. John Fahey Jr. who in many ways, revolutionized the entire society and in doing so, re
framed National Geographic s image. Fahey filled his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Addiction to material comforts and upholding ideas or doing things to please an audience, sponsor or
investor (Greene, 2012, p.201) is when conservatism turns into a battle between what is right and who
is richer. National Geographic content has been condensed, television shows are no longer as
educational as they are entertaining and business mogul, Rupert Murdoch owns over 70% which
means he gets to call the shots. Fahey hoped to use his powerful title to push educational
programming and provide more grants for students, but his visions did not align with those who had
the money. Creativity is by its nature an act of boldness (Greene, 2012, p. 201), so Fahey relinquished
his CEO position at National Geographic and has since taken his mastery skills elsewhere which
allows him to continue to overcome this conservatism emotional pitfall. For years National
Geographic writers scoured the earth for stories, and it took one man, John Fahey, to help assemble
global marketing deals and brand extensions (Kerwin) and due to his innovative character, he left his
mark on the magazine company and has not stopped mastering his

Coca Cola And A Low Calorie Cola
With each day, the advertisement industry is growing, becoming one of the most undeviating parts of
our lives. According to statistics, one third of all commercials are produced right here in the United
States. Being home to major multi national companies, the United States witnesses both excellent and
atrocious ads. While many firms have failed dreadfully sometimes to promote their products through
the help of a commercial, Coca cola has always flourished in this sector. Coca Cola managed to
produce astounding ads by consistently creating an emotional connection with its audience. With the
launch of its new soda Coca Cola Life in Buenos Aires Argentina, The Coca Cola company has
released another scintillating and heartwarming commercial along with it. The sixty second Coca Cola
ad advocates Coca Cola Life, a low calorie cola that is naturally sweetened with stevia leaf extract and
sugar. By chronicling the joys and pains of parenting and by portraying a family environment, Coca
Cola effectively elicits from viewers that connect their product with a sense of the warmth of a
peaceful family life. Thousands of ads have tackled the highs and lows of first time parenting but none
quite as magnificently as this. At the end of the commercial, it sends out a message, Destapa Tu
Naturaleza. Substantially, the brand s campaign invites consumers to open their good nature.
Eventually, they synthesized the idea of parenting and good nature

Teen Depression In Teens
Depression In Teens Suicide is the second leading cause of death in adolescence fifteenth through
nineteen only after traffic accidents (Klass). Teenage depression is a serious mental health problem
that causes teens to have the persistent feeling of sadness and lack of interest in activities. Depression
changes the way teens think, feel, and behave. Some people may wonder why depression is even a
concern, but depression itself causes two thirds of suicides (Department of Health). Most people don t
know what causes depression, the most common causes of depression are biological chemistry,
hormones, it can also be inherited; some people s depression stems from childhood trauma, or having
negative thoughts that give you a negative mood. There are chemicals in the brain that if abnormal or
impaired the function of nerve receptors and nerve systems change, leading to depression. Inheriting
depression is not simple, no one simply inherits depression from their mother or father, each person
inherits a unique combination of genes from their mother and father, and certain combinations can
predispose them to a particular illness (Department of Health). Childhood trauma, such as sexual or
physical abuse, domestic violence, neglect or parental loss, can have long lasting consequences,
researchers are exploring the effects of early trauma on the stress response systems (Department of
Health) that can later can lead to depression later in life. Teen depression may be linked to

Shamanistic Healing Essay
Shamanistic Healing
Shamanistic healing, one of the oldest spiritual healing powers, has recently become a topic of interest
in modern medicine.
What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is a mix of magic, folklore, medicine and spirituality that evolved in tribal and gathering
communities thousands of years ago. Shamanic faith presumes that everyone and everything has a
spirit which is a part of a greater whole, and that spirits affect all events, including illness and disease.
In the tradition of Shamanism it is believed that certain people named shamans exhibit particular
magical specialties at birth; the most common specialization is that of a healer. A Shaman is believed
to have the ability to communicate with the ethereal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First the physiological response is when the mind becomes absorbed in and focused on a dominant
idea and the nervous system is cut off from physical sensory input. The body exhibits reflex inertia,
involuntary nervous responses, and frenzy. Emotional perception, another form of ecstasy, refers to
overwhelming feelings of awe, anxiety, joy, sadness, fear, astonishment, passion, or any combination
of intense emotion. Finally, intuitive perception occurs when there is an understanding of the
transpersonal experience and expanded states of awareness or consciousness are possible. While the
physiological response is always present, the emotional response and intuitive perception may not be
within reach for all those who venture into ecstatic trance. Opposed to general hypnosis, practicing
shamanic techniques uses self hypnotic states to fine tune senses and observe the inner workings of
ones mind semi consciously. Research findings suggest that the contents of shamanic trance are not
solely influenced by psychopathology, biochemical effects, or cultural influences; there is a spiritual
variable that must be accounted for.

America s Age Of Hope
1980 1989: America s Age of Hope
From where did the vigor of the 1980 s come? 1980 to 1989 was a period in the United States which
spurred hope for the economy and in the spirits of the people. The 1980 s were a decade of the
American people standing together in tragedy and rejoicing with each other in victory. In 1989, the
fall of the Berlin Wall marked the end of the decade and an age of an oppression overseas. America
cheered for the freedom of her brothers and sisters in Germany. One highlight of the 1980 s was the
substantial growth of the economy through Reaganomics, President Reagan s principles of economics.
In television, the show Family Ties depicted an average family at the time, who supported each other
despite their wide range of beliefs and ideals. Why was this time in America so great? The people of
the nation believed in her, and America gave her people reason to believe.
The spirit of the 1980 s was born of previous decades. America s victory in World War II hurled the
nation into a society which became faster with each decade. The 1950 s, thriving on a time of high job
opportunity, rolled into the 1960 s time of activism of human rights for all peoples. Women s rights,
African American rights, and antiwar dominated the minds of many Americans in the 1960 s and 1970
s. Meanwhile, to the pleasure of the children, cable television s quality improved and shows
transitioned from grayscale to color. As the 1980 s hit with the Cold War stretching for its fortieth

Afrika, a new safari videogame for Sony s PlayStation 3 (PS3) console that allowed players to watch
wild animals and take virtual pictures. Hirai could not help feeling frustrated. Most of the conversation

Responding to the Wii? Market Birth, Collapse, and Rebirthb The videogame industry got off to an
uncertain start in 1972, when television maker Magnavox introduced Odyssey, the first home
videogame console. Priced at $100 (the equivalent of $516 in 2008 dollars),c Odyssey needed a
television screen to project its very limited action. The system came with 12 games, including versions
of tennis and ping pong, each on a printed circuit board.5 However, partly due to some uninspired
marketing and distribution decisions, Odyssey s appeal proved limited. Magnavox sold more than
100,000 game systems by year end, but sales quickly declined and Odyssey was pulled from the
market.6 Enter Atari Around the same time, a young entrepreneur named Nolan Bushnell was
developing arcade games with the use of then new microprocessor technology.7 In 1972, the company
he started, Atari, launched its first hit game an arcade version of ping pong.8 In Pong, two players
batted a ball of light back and forth between on screen paddles. The game instructions were simple:
Avoid missing ball for high score. 9 Pong was an immediate success: 8,500 arcade consoles were sold
in the first year.10 Bushnell

Downtown Cleveland Industry Analysis
Like many Midwest cities, Cleveland came of age during the rise of American industry. The city grew
an astounding 560 percent from 1880 to 1930, when it reached a population of 900,429. The era also
marks the golden age of banking and the building of countless, elaborate banks before the Wall Street
crash of 1929 that signaled the start of the Great Depression.
The former Ameritrust Tower and former Cleveland Trust rotunda were perfect examples of American

hotel, The Metropolitan at The 9. The hotel s $170 million redevelopment ranks among downtown

Dead Sea Scrolls Important To The World Today
The finding of the Dead Sea Scrolls is very important to the world today because they show tangible
evidence that God s Word is real and everlasting. They have had the greatest Biblical impact on holy
and historic events throughout history. The Dead Sea Scrolls have even been called the greatest
manuscript discovery of modern times. For these reasons, the Dead Sea Scrolls are important to us
today.
The Dead Sea Scrolls are a collection of different texts that were first discovered by a young boy
named Juma and his cousins, who were Bedouin goat herders, in 1947 in a cave at the Khirbet
Qumran in the West Bank near the Dead Sea, from which they derive their name. Then, in 1949
archaeologists searched and discovered more scrolls in ten other caves in the area. The texts are of
great historical and religious value. They include the third oldest known surviving texts of works
included in the Bible and they date back 1,000 years from the oldest known texts at that time and are
when Jesus lived. They also contain previously unknown stories about biblical figures. The texts are
written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Probably the Dead Sea Scrolls have had the greatest Biblical
impact. They have provided Old Testament manuscripts. The Dead Sea Scrolls have demonstrated that
the Old Testament was accurately transmitted during this interval. In addition, they provide a wealth
of information on the times leading up to, and during, the life of Christ (Wood). Therefore, the Dead

In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev and Lother Meyer separately made the periodic table, which showed that
the properties of chemicals recur periodically. However, both periodic tables sorted the elements in
order of increasing atomic mass. This, along with the discovery of the noble gasses made several
errors in repeating periods, one being argon and calcium. In 1913, H. G. J. Moseley ordered these
elements in increasing atomic number, fixing the error. In the periodic table, horizontal lines of
elements are called periods and vertical lines are called groups. Elements in the same group tend to
have repeating properties. Three of these main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The story begins at the Hotel de Bourgogne in the year 1640. Christian de Neuvillette attends the
theater with a man called Ligniere in hopes that this man can identify the woman he has fallen in love
with. Ligniere identifies the beautiful lady as Roxane, cousin to Cyrano de Bergerac. Christian also

he made a song that told of de Guiche s scheme to get Roxane and that de Guiche probably hated him

danger. Cyrano set out to confront the assassins with a crowd of people to watch.
The next part in the story takes place at Ragueneau s bakery. Ragueneau is a poet and congratulates
Cyrano for his duel in verse. Cyrano anxiously awaited the arrival of Roxane. Cyrano decided to write
Roxane a letter telling her how he felt about her but was unsure how to give it to her. He finally
decided he would give it to her in person. In the meantime a group of poets enter the shop and greet
Ragueneau. They discuss that the night before, a man killed eight men by himself. They asked Cyrano
if he knew the hero but he told them he didn t. The poets forget about the topic and go on to eating

Roxane and her duenna enter the shop. In order to obtain privacy, Cyrano fills three bags full of

tells Cyrano she has fallen in love with Christian. Christian was joining the Guards as a Cadet and she

HP s Acquisition of Autonomy
Goodwill Impairment and Fair Value Measurement: Hewlett Packard s Acquisition of Autonomy
Abstract
In today s business environment, mergers and acquisitions are becoming increasingly common.
Mergers and acquisitions create many accounting challenges including issues of fair value
measurement and the associated topic of goodwill impairment. The fair value measurement of an
acquired company usually entails using a Level 2 fair value estimate, or using a market or income
approach, both level three fair value estimates. Valuing an entity using the income approach can be a
very challenging due to the significant unobservable inputs that must be used to arrive at fair value.
Such unobservable inputs include items such as growth rates and ... Show more content on

(Add sentence about attributing a monetary value to goodwill.) In subsequent years, any amount of
goodwill determined from this fair value calculation needs to be tested for impairment.
In order to determine if goodwill impairment is required the Accounting Standards Codification (ASC)
describes a two step test for impairment (ASC 350 20 35). The first step is to compare the carrying
value of the entity (Autonomy) and compare it to its calculated fair value. If the fair value is less than
the carrying value (including goodwill) then it is necessary to move onto step two. Step two states that
if the implied fair value of goodwill is greater than the carrying value of goodwill, then there must be
a subsequent impairment to make up the difference. That means that if the reporting entity qualifies
after both tests, there must be a goodwill impairment loss to set the carrying value equal to the implied
fair value. HP describes how they test for goodwill impairment in their 2012 10 K,
For goodwill, HP performs a two step impairment test. In the first step, HP compares the fair value of
each reporting unit to its carrying value...If the fair value of the reporting unit exceeds the carrying
value of the net assets assigned to that unit, goodwill is not impaired and no further testing is
performed...If the carrying value of the net assets assigned to the reporting unit exceeds the fair value
of the reporting unit, then HP

Democracies are more likely to win “Total Wars” than...
The term total war has been attributed to a small number of conflicts. The term was originally coined
by the German military officer Erich Ludendorff in his book The Total War . Previous to this the
renowned military theorists Carl von Clausewitz and Antoine Henri Jomini both touched on the raw
principles of total war , but failing to ever recognise the term Ludendorff went on to fashion. It was
not until the 1950s that the term re emerged to describe the nature of the conflict during the First and
Second World Wars, whilst a number of wars previous to this have characteristics of total wars , the
primitive state of national economies and refusal to fully mobilise the economy purely for war can

The use of violence to repress and monitor was a common theme used by dictators to control their
peoples. This was uncommon in democracies, for example the British Prime Minister Winston
Churchill did not have his own personal guard, answerable only to himself; it was Churchill who was
scrutinized by the people, the reverse of the situation pertaining in both Germany and the Soviet
Union. Totalitarianism endangers the stability of a nation as there will be growing internal unrest due
to the excesses of terrorism, the denial of rights and the inability of large segments of the population to
participate in public affairs . It was these basic democratic principles which were absent throughout
the totalitarian regimes of the 20th Century; as a single man s ideology was allowed to develop
unrestricted, with little input from either a strong government or the general public.
In the autocratic governments of wartime Europe the chain of command was rigidly maintained from
the top down, unlike democracies where the chain was more susceptible to variation. The effects of
the totalitarian administrative structure manifest themselves in subordinates inability to question
orders and policies which leads to further disregard for the negative consequences of such commands.
A fine example of this would be German high command s inability to make intuitive judgements
without the Fuhrer s expressed permission, on the day of

The Integral Role Of The Renaissance In Southern Italy
The Renaissance brought about major changes in European politics, economics, sciences, and
cultures. New schools of thought, most notably Christian Humanism, techniques of painting and
sculpting, systems of government, and ways to communicate forever changed the face of Europe.
These changes, however, were not uniform in their influence or their style. The Southern, especially
Italian, Renaissance focussed particularly on both the individual and the Church, through studying old
Roman Catholic doctrines and Greco Roman classics, whereas the Northern Renaissance looked at
how society and the Church could be improved economically and politically. Cultural and geographic
differences were the main causes of the differences between the Southern ... Show more content on

The difference in geography in the North and South, as well as the cultures there, accounted for
differences in lifestyle, economics, and religion. The South was closer to the Caribbean and South
America, resulting in a sizable slave population there. Enslaved Africans were brought in to farm
cotton, rice, and tobacco, all of which took a considerable amount of labor to produce. The close
proximity to the equator caused a warmer climate that suited the cash crops. The Southern states didn t
emphasize religion as much as the North did. The Northern colonies, after all, were founded to escape
religious persecution, while the Southern colonies were mostly established to increase wealth and help
England achieve its mercantilist goals. Slavery, therefore, was not only almost absent in the North
because they weren t needed to farm, but also because of the importance of religion to its European
American inhabitants. While even after independence the South relied on slaves to farm few types of
crops, the North became industrialized and had a diversified economy through trade and
manufacturing. Societal values and geographic characteristics, like with the Southern and Northern
Renaissances in Europe, caused sectionalism and the development of two definite sections of the early

Emile Durkheim s Influence On Society
Émile Durkheim was born in France in 1858 to a Jewish family and started attending a rabbinical
school at a young age but eventually decided not to continue on that path and instead became an
agnostic. He eventually went on to become a philosophy teacher and is considered to have played a
pivotal roll in the rise of sociology. Durkheim believed that society shaped every aspect of human
thought and behavior. He promoted the importance of society and suggests that without it things like
art, family, laws and morality could not exist. He insists that although we are all individual beings
with the capability of making our own decisions, all of our life choices are made within a sociological
structure provide to us from the day were are born. He believed these social ties were so important that
we needed an entire discipline scientifically committed to understanding it. He wanted data to be
collected, studied and compared. Thus the field of Sociology was born, and Durkheim considered the
father of it. While attempting to understand the social Durkheim was continuously led back to the
religious. Durkheim found that religion and society were absolutely synonymous and that one could
not survive without the other stating, If religion has given birth to all that is essential in society, it is

Who Is Hulu s Target Market
Companies always reshape their product to grow or to obtain their goal. Now multiple companies are
buying one another to get a better reach of their target market. The first article from Advertising Age
states that Hulu will stop offering TV shows for free. That is quite daunting for the users you range
from all ages especially millennials who are the main users. The streaming service is discarding its
free platform that provided streaming viewers with a library of hundreds of movies, TV shows, and
clips since 2007. Hulu s decision to terminate free streaming is a major step as it tries to gain more
traction against other streaming video sites, such as Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon. Hulu becomes a

It is drastic because when Hulu was announced back in 2005 the cable companies weren t too happy
about another platform getting all the views. Now they are on board with cable cutting. And that new,
live TV service just got a ton more channels: CNN, TBS, Cartoon Network, TNT, and more. Not a bad
haul! Alongside that buy in is the guarantee of Time Warner s many TV channels and the content they
produce to Hulu s live TV offering. Time Warner is far from the first major TV content creator to hook
up with Hulu s live TV service. NBCUniversal, Disney, and Fox are all in talks with Hulu to offer
channels on the new service. There are still lots of questions about the new service, like when exactly
it will launch and how much it ll cost. Rumors put the service at between $30 and $40/month, with an
expected launch in early 2017. The two articles are related because they depict Hulu s future and their

The Ineffective Use Of Shorthands In Dracula By Bram Stoker
Bram Stoker makes the argument that technological advancements are ineffective through his
representation of Harker s use of shorthand. Stoker portrays how Harker attempts to challenge the
Count by using shorthand, but yet remains vulnerable to his power due to the ineffectiveness of
modern advancements. While Harker is trapped in Dracula s castle at the beginning of the novel, he
writes in his journal in shorthand. This abbreviated form of writing allows Harker to write more
swiftly and most importantly, it ensures that his writing is unintelligible to Dracula, who is unable to
decipher the symbols and abbreviations that he uses. While Harker is confined within Dracula s castle,

Writing in shorthand is a survival strategy for Harker as he is imprisoned within the Count s castle.
His shorthand is unintelligible to the Count since it is a newly emerged method of communication and
as a result, he is able to disclose his frightening experiences in the castle to Mina since it is
unintelligible to the Count. The use of shorthand itself suggests that Victorian society is shifting to
advancements in communication that prioritize efficiency and productivity, which reflects modernity s
drive to innovate technology which transforms Victorian society as a result. Harker s use of shorthand
is presented in a way that attempts to challenge Dracula, who is old fashioned and counters modernity
as he represents the supernatural in constrast to scientific and modern progress. The novel integrates
the use of this modern advancement in order to demonstrate the contrast between modernity and
supernatural traditions as Harker finds comfort in this modern form of communication as he is
threatened by Dracula s supernatural abilities within his old, dark ruined castle. However, Harker s use
of shorthand itself is not enough to overcome the

Fighting In Hockey
Professional hockey players eat, sleep, and breathe the game. This passion breeds a rare type of
diehard fan to follow the sport. The game of hockey is over 100 years old and fighting is one element
that has kept players engaged and fans hooked throughout the years. The first indoor hockey game
was played in 1875 and the NHL was formed 42 years later in 1917. In 1922, fighting was added to
the rule book as a regulated aspect of the game. Looking at the history of hockey shines a light on the
players and fans passion for the game. Hockey fights should stay in the game for the protection and

In the event that a player makes a dirty hit on a skilled player, the enforcer s role is to send a message
to the other team. For fear that a skilled player will be hurt and unable to play, an enforcer will take
matters into his own hands. As a result, skilled players feel protected and can do their job of scoring
goals more effectively. All things considered, fighters are there for protection, not violence. Fighting
as part of the game reduces injuries drastically. At the present time, fighting in the NHL is being
heavily debated and there are two very different sides to the argument. In the meantime, with the
stricter regulations against fighting, NHL injuries are at an all time high. My coach, Kelly Chase a
retired NHL enforcer says that with concussions being such a focus in sports, only 2% of the ones in
the NHL are caused by fights. The other 98% are caused by dirty hits. In the background of the
controversy, the game has evolved to where fighting is not an enforcer s only role on the team.

Research Paper On Climate Change
Climate Change We are living on this planet as if we have another one to go to. (Unknown) This quote
by an unknown source depicts the common mindset of the modern human. At the start of the 20th
century America had had numerous major advancements in technology and business. These
advancements helped to put America ahead, but at a cost. Emissions of Carbon Dioxide, other
greenhouse gases and aerosols have been steadily increasing since this time period and show no signs
of stopping soon (How Do We Know..). What is the reason for this? Could it be that people do not
know what they are doing? Maybe people just do not care? Many persons in America will deny the
changing climate because they claim there are no facts or they do not believe in the facts that scientists
have come to find. The advancement of climate change through production of Carbon Dioxide,
greenhouse gases and overuse of aerosol products can be blamed on mankind s waste and disregard.
Carbon Dioxide, also referred to as Co2, is one of the adverse chemicals that has been contributing to
climate change for decades. The careless attitude and dangerous professions of humans are, almost
collectively, directly responsible for the ever rising Carbon Dioxide concentration in our air. By reason

the Munich Agreement was forged. It was a meeting between the heads of state for Britain, France,

Taking a Look at the American Film Industry
After taking a closer look at the film industry in the current years, it is easy to see that the structure
market of this industry is an oligopolistic market. This means that there are several big companies that
contribute to more than fifty percent of the production of films produced each year. At the moment
some of the companies that together combine for more than this fifty percent are Sony, Warner
Brothers, Disney, and Paramount. These big production companies have a big hold on the market, and
are able to produce movies each month to keep a tight grip on the market share. This makes them the
leaders in this market, but there is still room for a private independent company to produce a film and
have great success ( Leading domestic distributors , 2013).
The film industry is in the business to entertain, so it falls under the entertainment business. This
opens the competition to a much broader sphere. There are so many other competitors under this
category that it is necessary to narrow it down to a more precise competition. When talking about the
entertainment industry this includes sports, video games, theme parks, television shows, live theater,
and music, but it s not helpful to compare to the film industry with all these other entertainment
sectors. The focus will be on television shows and video games, which are more closely related to the
film industry. In 2010 this section of television, films, and video games had revenue of $30 billion.

Discipleship in the Gospel of Mark Essay
In the gospel of Mark the author not only recounts the actions of Jesus, but also how he relates to two
particular groups, his followers and his adversaries. In this paper we will look at how he chose his
disciples, what qualities were required for discipleship, how he taught the disciples, and how they
measured up to his expectations.
Jesus literally calls his disciples to come and follow him. The summary statement is that Jesus called
to him those he wanted, and they came to him. (3:13) Simon, Andrew, James, John, were working as
fishermen when Jesus called them. Simon and Andrew left at once (1:18) and James and John left
immediately (1:20) But coming to Jesus also involved leaving other places and things. The four ...

(16:14, 8:31, 9:31 and 10:33 34) Throughout the gospel of Mark there is juxtaposition between large
crowds and intimate groups. Although the crowds are important to him, the small groups are the
setting he chooses to train his disciples. In chapter one after Jesus baptism he went immediately into
the wilderness. Then it oscillates from a huge crowd (33) to a solitary place (35) to crowds (45) to
lonely places (45). By example Jesus shows that the energy he expends with the crowds must be
renewed in quiet times with his Father. In chapters two and three Jesus seems to always be surrounded
by crowds. The friends of the paralytic tore up the roof because it was so crowded. Crowds are
mentioned in 2:13, 3:7, 3:20, and 3:32. Chapter 4 begins with Jesus teaching the crowds, but in 4:10
when he is alone with his disciples, he explains the parables. Mark clearly states that Jesus spoke in
parables to the crowds, but when he was alone with his own disciples he explained everything (4:34)
The same scenario is repeated in chapter 7 where Jesus speaks to the crowd (7:14) but his disciples
question him after the crowd leaves (7:17) and Jesus explains to them what he meant. In chapter 5
they are inundated again by the crowds. (verses 15, 17, 21, 24, 27, 30, 31, 37) but it is only with Peter,

the assets which are not correlated to each other and thus by including these asset classes he can

be a huge benefit physically, emotionally, and socially. It is no surprise that we have trained dogs to

assist people with disabilities such as visual impairment, post traumatic stress disorder, diabetes,
seizure disorder, mental illness, and mobility impairment are called service dogs.
However, certain dogs have been excluded as service dogs because of being labeled as the dangerous

breeds that are considered safe breeds. A service dog is a regular everyday dog that was trained to
perform tasks to help people with disabilities. People already feel that there are only specific breeds
such as Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, or German Shepherds that can be service dogs.
However, this is not factual according to the Fair Housing Act. Breed, size, and weight limitations

Apuleius wrote the Golden Ass during the Second Century A.D. In it he talked about many complex
allegorical contexts and layers of meaning pertaining to varying religious practices. He was able to do
this by essentially switching back and forth between side stories which might or might not intertwine
with the overall story. The religion of Isis was predominant in comparing the other lesser known or
rather inferior religions of the time such as Christianity. It seems as if Isis was praised in a way that
would grant her saint like qualities. Many things were considered important surrounding this including
dreams and the recounting of them to priests, as well as snakes associated with Aesculapius and the

There also is a misogynistic view of women throughout the book and their almost inescapable
correlation with magic and practices used essentially for evil. The story of Thelyphron discusses this
correlation, with women being the center of the story as well as the themes of magic and the occult.
Traditional religion of the day gave high regard and respect for the dead, more than the living in most
cases, and as such stringent funeral rites and burial procedures were hence followed to ensure proper
passage of the soul or reincarnation depending on what path you specifically may take. Hence in this
story, when it comes to mutilating the body of Thelyphron, instead of treating it as an unthinkable
crime, it only elicits laughter from the crowd. This act shows a shift in the story where ridicule and
public humiliation play an essential role in demeaning the rights of citizens and legal condemnation is
put into a clearer context. Public condemnation was also shown in the story of Aristomenes when he
was scared in being falsely accused of Socrates murder, driving him into hiding. This theme also
carries onto the trial of Lucius, which apparently turns out to be nothing more than an elaborate, and
decidedly cruel, practical joke. The repeated fear of condemnation and subsequent absolution are
evident throughout the story because this umbrella of fear kept control on peoples actions, and maybe
in a way were also the fears and insecurities

Value Of A Homeless Person
Chancellor Champ Mrs. Alexander English 12 February 26, 2017 How life should be valued The
politician or a homeless person, who should be valued more? To me, there are people that should be
valued more than others. Should the president suddenly pass than his/her nation could be plunged into
chaos. He/she is more valuable and should always be be more valued than a homeless person. A
homeless person, whether good or bad were to pass away, then he/she would effect little in the greater
nation. This is the cold hard truth. Here are 3 important reasons to discuss this and how they factor in
how a person should be valued. One important reason which determines a person s value, is simply a
person s importance. Now throughout human history there have always been those who have led us,
who were our leaders. These are our monarchs, presidents or other politicians who have run the day to
day affairs to running a nation. The leader rules over his/her citizens or subjects with their own roles
with varying levels of importance to society. Priest s who tend to the spiritual needs of a population.
Doctors who see to the physical health needs of a population. Today rich entrepreneurs and tycoon s

the reason Henry progresses the story as the main protagonist. He is the main driving force that is

While Henry does adapt his ways often, he doesn t always change. One of the examples of him

s will. Another example of this is his choice to end people s lives.
Henry V is a man of God, which is again shown on the eve of the Battle of Agincourt when he is
talking with his men. One of his men wishes they had more men fighting, yet Henry wishes the
opposite. If God has chosen them to lose this battle then more men would die. On the
other hand, if God had chosen them to win, extra men wouldn t be needed, so they can use those extra

Henry doesn t blame always blame the innocents for others crimes either. There is an example in

Neglectful Parenting Styles
This parenting style is called Neglectful, this is when a parent has a bad relationship and doesn t pay
attention to the child. If I was a parent I don t think I could ever treat my own child like they don t
mean anything to me. And as child I would be scared of my parents, going home and doing something
wrong. Some characteristics of being a neglectful parent are emotionally distant from your child, so
you never talk about feelings going through their minds which can be very damaging to a child. One
could have little to no supervision, have zero to one expectations for the child and don t support the
child with anything they do like attending school events or sporting events. Anything you do to a child
has an effect like if the parents doesn t do anything cook that child has to learn how to provide for
themselves. Also the child can built fears, anxiety, or stress due to the lack of support from their
parents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents that have this type of parenting may not have set rules but they are very loving parents.
Support in activities is one of their main goals, all they want for their child is to be happy. The
characteristics of this parenting style is pretty simple, some are have few rules or regulations for
behavior or the child. The parents rules are pretty inconsistent, if the child does not behave they
usually say if you behave you can get a toy or a treat. They ask the children about their opinion on
important decisions. The effect of this parenting style is that the child is not about to manage time or
habits, they show aggression more than emotional understanding and lastly they show low
achievement in academics. Personally I would consider this one of the better ways of

The Tribunes In Julius Caesar Act 1
Act 1 Scene 1 In plays, the type of language said by characters can have double or multiple meanings.
Language can be interpreted to evaluate the main idea of a particular scene in a play. In Julius Caesar,
William Shakespeare introduced a conflict in Act 1 Scene 1 through the use of language between the
conversations of the commoners and the tribunes to indicate that not all are content with Caesar s trip
back home. To begin, the tribunes speech differs from the commoners because they are degrading and
dehumanizing them. The tribunes perceive the commoners differently, based on class distinctions,
education, and wealth. Having said that, they believe it s alright to speak lowly towards them. For
example, Falvius said, Being mechanical,

Low Extremity Amputation
Abstract Lower extremity amputation constitute high percentage of limb amputation which
significantly reduce the motion ability and quality of life of the amputees. Therefore the most
important goal in the design of prosthesis is to restore function of the lost limb. Most of the
commercially available ankle foot prostheses are passive and thus cause many gait pathologies for
below knee amputees, such as high metabolic demand, poor shock tolerance and asymmetric gait
patterns. Even though several powered prosthetic devices have been designed and proposed to
improve amputee walking experience by exploiting active elements, these designs yet suffer from
heavy and bulky actuators which is necessary to produce the power of propulsion. In this paper,

Karen and Michael had been separated for more than a year but were seeing each other. A friend of Ward s also visiting and the four of them were going on a picnic. They never made it. At around noon, Karen staggered from the house, bleeding profusely from the neck. Domestic violence as defined by The U.S. Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. The definition adds that domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or gender , and that it takes many forms, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional or psychological abuse, and verbal abuse. • 3. The Impact Of Digital Technology On The Creation Of... Henry Jenkins describes convergence as a situation where multiple media systems coexist and where media content flows fluidly across them (2006: 282). An important part of the information transferred across platforms are the techniques utilised in creation. Digital technologies have no doubt had a large impact on moving images and how they are developed and produced in the modern world. There has been the introduction of inexpensive consumer digital recording devices, and the ability to create a video with mobile phones rather than needing a separate dedicated device. This has led to growth in the creation of amateur moving images on platforms such as YouTube in a variety of forms. As well as inspiring the creation of new areas of production, digital advances have enabled further evolution in more traditional areas. Early cinematic pioneers dabbled with in camera trickery in order to create fantastical scenes and amaze viewers, and this principle carries forward to today. Matt Reeve s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) is a good example of the intriguing applications of digital technology in order to achieve these old goals in a potentially better way. As with the introduction of any new way to achieve a goal, the opportunities available to content creators have multiplied with the growth in the variety of digital techniques. The power particular innovations in technology can have in their contribution is perhaps underlined by the impact they have had in less revered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 1980 s were a decade of the American people standing together in tragedy and rejoicing with each other in victory. In 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall marked the end of the decade and an age of an oppression overseas. America cheered for the freedom of her brothers and sisters in Germany. Priced at $100 (the equivalent of $516 in 2008 dollars),c Odyssey needed a television screen to project its very limited action. The system came with 12 games, including versions of tennis and ping pong, each on a printed circuit board.5 However, partly due to some uninspired marketing and distribution decisions, Odyssey s appeal proved limited. Magnavox sold more than 100,000 game systems by year end, but sales quickly declined and Odyssey was pulled from the market.6 Enter Atari Around the same time, a young entrepreneur named Nolan Bushnell was developing arcade games with the use of then new microprocessor technology.7 In 1972, the company he started, Atari, launched its first hit game an arcade version of ping pong.8 In Pong, two players batted a ball of light back and forth between on screen paddles. Fighting as part of the game reduces injuries drastically. At the present time, fighting in the NHL is being heavily debated and there are two very different sides to the argument. In the meantime, with the stricter regulations against fighting, NHL injuries are at an all time high. (Unknown) This quote by an unknown source depicts the common mindset of the modern human. At the start of the 20th century America had had numerous major advancements in technology and business. These advancements helped to put America ahead, but at a cost. Emissions of Carbon Dioxide, other greenhouse gases and aerosols have been steadily increasing since this time period and show no signs of stopping soon (How Do We Know..). What is the reason for this? Could it be that people do not know what they are doing? Maybe people just do not care? Many persons in America will deny the changing climate because they claim there are no facts or they do not believe in the facts that scientists have come to find. The advancement of climate change through production of Carbon Dioxide, greenhouse gases and overuse of aerosol products can be blamed on mankind s waste and disregard. Carbon Dioxide, also referred to as Co2, is one of the adverse chemicals that has been contributing to climate change for decades. The careless attitude and dangerous professions of humans are, almost collectively, directly responsible for the ever rising Carbon Dioxide concentration in our air. Taking a Look at the American Film Industry After taking a closer look at the film industry in the current years, it is easy to see that the structure market of this industry is an oligopolistic market. This means that there are several big companies that contribute to more than fifty percent of the production of films produced each year. At the moment some of the companies that together combine for more than this fifty percent are Sony, Warner Brothers, Disney, and Paramount. These big production companies have a big hold on the market, and are able to produce movies each month to keep a tight grip on the market share. This makes them the leaders in this market, but there is still room for a private independent company to produce a film and have great success ( Leading domestic distributors , 2013). The film industry is in the business to entertain, so it falls under the entertainment business. This opens the competition to a much broader sphere. There are so many other competitors under this category that it is necessary to narrow it down to a more precise competition. When talking about the entertainment industry this includes sports, video games, theme parks, television shows, live theater, and music, but it s not helpful to compare to the film industry with all these other entertainment sectors. Discipleship in the Gospel of Mark Essay In the gospel of Mark the author not only recounts the actions of Jesus, but also how he relates to two particular groups, his followers and his adversaries. In this paper we will look at how he chose his disciples, what qualities were required for discipleship, how he taught the disciples, and how they measured up to his expectations. Jesus literally calls his disciples to come and follow him. The summary statement is that Jesus called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. (3:13) Simon, Andrew, James, John, were working as fishermen when Jesus called them. Although the crowds are important to him, the small groups are the setting he chooses to train his disciples. In chapter one after Jesus baptism he went immediately into the wilderness. Then it oscillates from a huge crowd (33) to a solitary place (35) to crowds (45) to lonely places (45). By example Jesus shows that the energy he expends with the crowds must be renewed in quiet times with his Father. In chapters two and three Jesus seems to always be surrounded by crowds. The friends of the paralytic tore up the roof because it was so crowded. Crowds are mentioned in 2:13, 3:7, 3:20, and 3:32. Chapter 4 begins with Jesus teaching the crowds, but in 4:10 when he is alone with his disciples, he explains the parables. Mark clearly states that Jesus spoke in parables to the crowds, but when he was alone with his own disciples he explained everything (4:34) The same scenario is repeated in chapter 7 where Jesus speaks to the crowd (7:14) but his disciples question him after the crowd leaves (7:17) and Jesus explains to them what he meant. In chapter 5 they are inundated again by the crowds. (verses 15, 17, 21, 24, 27, 30, 31, 37) but it is only with Peter, James, and John present that Jairus daughter is ... The story of Thelyphron discusses this correlation, with women being the center of the story as well as the themes of magic and the occult. Traditional religion of the day gave high regard and respect for the dead, more than the living in most cases, and as such stringent funeral rites and burial procedures were hence followed to ensure proper passage of the soul or reincarnation depending on what path you specifically may take. Hence in this story, when it comes to mutilating the body of Thelyphron, instead of treating it as an unthinkable crime, it only elicits laughter from the crowd. This act shows a shift in the story where ridicule and public humiliation play an essential role in demeaning the rights of citizens and legal condemnation is put into a clearer context. Public condemnation was also shown in the story of Aristomenes when he was scared in being falsely accused of Socrates murder, driving him into hiding. This theme also carries onto the trial of Lucius, which apparently turns out to be nothing more than an elaborate, and decidedly cruel, practical joke. He/she is more valuable and should always be be more valued than a homeless person. A homeless person, whether good or bad were to pass away, then he/she would effect little in the greater nation. This is the cold hard truth. Here are 3 important reasons to discuss this and how they factor in how a person should be valued. One important reason which determines a person s value, is simply a person s importance. Now throughout human history there have always been those who have led us, who were our leaders. These are our monarchs, presidents or other politicians who have run the day to day affairs to running a nation. On the other hand, if God had chosen them to win, extra men wouldn t be needed, so they can use those extra men to suppress the Scottish rebellion.
