Othering Through Media

Kivikuru Othering and the media A literature review on media about, for and by minorities Lieselotte

we live in a multicultural society, meaning that we are constantly faced with the other , we often turn

I will first discuss these activities before turning to mainstream and ethnic media. Dual nature of
othering Authors (Bailey et al., 2007; Canales, 2000; Haynes et al., 2006) acknowledge the dual nature
of the process of othering where it simultaneously causes exclusion and inclusion. Haynes et al.
(2006) formulate it precisely when they state that the construction of an other is, in fact, a dual process
whereby an imagined included us is created through the construction of an excluded other (p.13).
Exclusionary othering uses the power within relationships for domination and subordination. People
who experience this form of othering often experience alienation, marginalization, decreased
opportunities, internalized oppression and exclusion. Inclusionary othering on the other hand, attempts
to utilize power within relationships for transformation and coalition building. Individuals who
experience this form of othering , potentially undergo consciousness raising, sense of community,
shared power and inclusion (Canales, 2000). Complementing this dual nature of othering , Schmidt
Bunkers (2003) explains the remarkable paradox concerning the other: Never has the world been more
dangerous, with terrorism continuing to spark suspicions of those that are different from us. And,
never, at the same time, has the world been more in need of finding ways to embrace those that are
different and those that are viewed as

What Does The Presence Of Different Sectarian Groups (...
How does the presence of three different sectarian groups (Christian, Sunni, Shiite) affect the political,
economic, and social stability of a nation is an interdisciplinary research question because it seeks to
understand the relationship between the economics and its key insights while examining the political
environment can led to conflict and how that conflict was exacerbated by the involvement of many
different cultural sects. Analyzing the case of Lebanon requires an interdisciplinary approach for
several reasons. First, the problem is complex, meaning that there are several components and each
components has a different disciplinary character. Second, important insights into the problem have
been produced by expects from multiple disciplines. Third, no single disciplinary approach has been
able to address this problem comprehensively. Fourth, the case of Lebanon falls within the research
domains of several disciplines. By establishing these links across disciplinary knowledge domains
requires creating common ground and performing integration, which is a distinct feature of
interdisciplinarity. The scope of this study will focus on the nation of Lebanon with the events
unraveling sense the early 1970 s until today. The composition of the Lebanese society allows us to
examine how the presence of Christian, Sunni, and Shiite camps can lead to social instability with war
being the most extreme manifestation of civil strife. Instability in a nations political

Tactical Training Essay
Since day one in the Army, we have all heard leaders use phrases such as train as you fight and train to
standard . Surprisingly these are not just some catchy phrases that someone made up to motivate
soldiers. These phrases, and many more come directly out of an Army manual, the ADP 7 0 to be
precise. So why are we talking about this? Well, to paraphrase ADP 7 0, unit training is the life blood
of the Army. (Headquarters, D.A., 2012) Train as you will fight; ADP 7 0 defines this as training under
an expected operational environment for the mission . It goes on to talk about establishing things that
a unit can expect to face in an operational environment. I think we as a whole have become very good
at this over the last 15 years. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a much larger threat to us as aviators then we are used to dealing with, and we cannot
continue to rely on the same tactics to keep us save. So what must we do? This is where we have to
change the way we think, act, and fight. Tactical training needs to become as important as our
emergency procedure (EP) training is to us. When training EP s, we train the maneuvers to the point
that rote memorization turns into understanding and correlation, you don t even have to think about
what to do, it is just instinctive. Unfortunately, we do not share the same thoughts when it comes to
tactical training. It has been argued that when your aircraft is engaged by the enemy you are now in an
emergency, so why not treat it the same as a mechanical malfunction?(US, DOT, FAA, 2008) The
importance of realistic tactical training goes back to the train as you fight saying. It will allow us as
aviators to fine tune our skills not only as individuals but as teams as well. That way, when we are
faced with a real life scenario, it is not the first time we are thinking about it and everyone knows what
everyone else is going to do. Ultimately the most important part of using realistic training is so we can
bring everyone back home

Theme Of Alcoholism In Reservation Blues
Alcoholism severely changes the lives of the people it affects. By stripping away the few choices the
natives once had, the men no longer have any way to go. With this in mind, this photo looks more at
the struggles of an individual with alcoholism. The bottle represents alcoholism s tendency to trap its
victims. In Reservation Blues, the men are said to be trapped on the reservation by the beer they
indulge themselves in. Therefore, the man is trapped within the bottle and without a means of escape.
The duality of the symbol comes into play when one looks at him as a reflection on the bottle or as a
being inside the bottle. When a reflection, he is trapped in the shape of the bottle where he navigates a
two dimensional world trying to find

The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood By John Everett Millais
The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded by John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and
William Holman Hunt who were students at the Royal Academy. Millais, Rossetti, and Hunt were
dissatisfied with the academy teaching students to mimic renaissance masters like Raphael, and sought
to create art reminiscent of the medieval period. In addition for their distaste for renaissance perfection
in art the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood were inspired by the theories of writer and art critic, John
Ruskin. Ruskin encouraged artist to go back to nature, as well as show moral and material truth in
their art via the use of symbols and more naturalistic depictions of nature (Harrison, Wood and Gaiger,
200). The Brotherhood at its inception strove to transmit a message of artistic renewal and moral
reform by imbuing their art with seriousness, sincerity, and truth to nature. (Meagher) From Millais I
will focus on one of his more famous paintings Ophelia, followed by Rossetti s Proserpine, and Hunt s
Awakening Conscience.
John Everett Millais Ophelia painted in 1851 is a depiction of noble woman Ophelia from
Shakespeare s Hamlet. Ophelia s story is tragic as she loses the favour of price Hamlet who then goes
on to kill Ophelia s father. Ophelia is driven mad by these event and is found dead in a brook, the
scene depicted in Millais painting. True to the Pre Raphaelites and Ruskin s ideology the background
was painted from observation with great care and detail. Perhaps the most

Heterosexism And Sexism
Sexism and Heterosexism Sexism is a type of discrimination which I feel is such a part of our culture
that we often do not even recognize it and it is widely overlooked. Johnson (2013) suggests we need to
deal with the social roots that generate and nurture the social problems that are reflected in the
behavior of individuals (p. 335). Unquestionably, it becomes difficult to recognize, and therefore
begin to change, that which is the social norm in our world; and yet, to do nothing perpetuates the
problem of a patriarchal culture (Johnson, 2013).
In a patriarchal culture, on group is exercising control over another group, or groups, in an effort to
exert domination in all areas (Johnson, 2013). The symbols and ideas that make up patriarchal ...

This is to say nothing of attitudes against women when sexism is combined with racism. Based on
information presented by Blackmon (2008), South Carolina governor Cole Blease was quoted as
saying I have...very serious doubt as to whether the crime of rape can be committed against a negro (p.
305). According to Katz (2013), it will take not only women activists, but men who are willing to
reject the sexist attitudes of the males who have come before them to eradicate the gender inequality
which is commonplace in today s society. Additionally, sex segregation in the workplace deserves
acknowledgement. In the twenty first century, so many advancements have been made for women in
this area; and yet, women are still left disadvantaged in the economic arena (Bernstein, 2013).
Bernstein (2013) acknowledges women are still predominantly shouldering the burdens of raising a
family, and even though 15% of women are holding historically male dominated positions, their
average yearly pay with a graduate degree lags male pay by approximately $35,000 a year. Given the
overall acceptance of sexism in our society, women are inundated with female ideals of the perfect
woman and body images which set impossible standards. Statistics show exposure to advertisement

Change is the law of Nature:
Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change
anything. George Bernard Shaw. Let us change our mind and be ready to make changes for the future
generation. The trends in technology are growing rapidly. We should set our mind to adopt those
changes.
Only when we are ready to accept changes, we could develop the interest in knowing things. Being a
teacher it is always essential to get updated with subject and technology. So that the expectation of
21st century generation will be fulfilled.
Children observe many new inventions and growth of technology in which they live with. So their
expectation in knowing things would be different. Along with the methods which we had learnt in
B.Ed. courses such as Lecture method, Demonstration method, Trial and Error method, Experimental
method, we should also discover many new approaches to enrich the mind of the young generation
through technology.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that depression will be the second highest cause of
medical cause of disability by the year 2030, second only to AIDS/HIV. Depression comes in many
different forms and shapes affecting around 350 million people worldwide, roughly 7% of the world
population and despite the available treatment options many do not have accessibility to said options.
This paper is meant to discuss an overview of depression and emotional support animals, a relatively

Depression is a mental health disorder that can be characterized by loss of interest of once enjoyable
activities, and a persistent mood of depression (MacGill, 2017). As previously stated earlier in this
paper, hundreds of millions suffer from this debilitating mental disorder on a global scale and is
extremely prevalent in today s society. According to MacGill, those individuals suffering from
depression often times have symptoms consisting of feelings of loneliness, worthlessness, apathy, or
depressed moods and tend to have a difficult time doing things or getting out of bed (2017). Other
symptoms that arrive with depression can also include irritability, anxiety, isolation, lethargic
tendencies, suicidal thoughts, appetite loss, and weight gain or loss. There are numerous causes of
depression, according to MacGill, ranging from genetics, environmental factors, traumatic events,
psychological and psychosocial problems, drugs and drug abuse, having had a major depressive
disorder, or a change in neurotransmitter levels (2017). Serotonin, a neurotransmitter that results in a
happy feeling, is typically found in highly reduced levels in those who suffer from depression which
usually leads to said person being diagnosed SRIs (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) as a form of
treatment and is usually prescribed

Hamlet Madness Analysis
One of the most controversial arguments about William Shakespeare s Hamlet is whether Hamlet,
indeed, went insane or if his madness was no more than an act. Proof for the latter is given in several
instances throughout the play; Hamlet undeniably kept his sanity intact. Loved ones of Hamlet
insinuate that he is not mad. Hamlet himself justifies that his mental state is sound. Shakespeare also
shows what he believes is the true definition of madness in the character Ophelia, not Hamlet. Even
though Hamlet s disposition seems as that of a madman, statements of others around him, declarations
from Hamlet himself, and contrasts between Ophelia and Hamlet prove otherwise.
Amid his feigning of madness, several individuals suspect that Hamlet truly is sane; encounters with
Claudius, Gertrude, and Polonius show that Hamlet s rather false insanity is possibly discovered.
Claudius, of course, pays very close attention to every move Hamlet makes. After all, Claudius did kill
his father and marry his mother shortly thereafter. When Hamlet begins his mad behavior the king
states, ...what he spake, though it lack d form a little, / Was not like madness. There s something in his
soul... (56). King Claudius believes that even though Hamlet is acting differently, he is not mad. He
specifically states that what Hamlet says is not like madness at all, yet he feels as though there is
something else within Hamlet s soul that is bothering him. Upon Claudius and Polonius informing
Gertrude of what they believe is the source of Hamlet s behavior, Gertrude reminds them ...that it is no
other but the main: his father s death and our [Gertrude and Claudius] o erhasty marriage (35). Thus,
both Hamlet s uncle father and aunt mother declare their son sane and decide that something else is
making him act oddly apart from madness (44). Even though Polonius says that Hamlet is mad, he
comments ...yet there is method in t to suggest that even though Hamlet may be crazy, perhaps there is
a reason behind it (39). Polonius also suggests that Hamlet has a way with words and reflects on how
pregnant sometimes his replies are... (39). He suggests heavily that perhaps Hamlet is only putting on
madness to carry out a plan or a

Becoming The Gospel Michael Gorman
In his new book Becoming the Gospel Michael Gorman provides an interesting look at the life and
letters of the apostle Paul. Gorman wants his readers to consider that more than knowing the gospel
and its power to save, Paul want his recipients of his letters to live out the gospel in their lives. Thus
Gorman s central argument in this book is that Paul wanted the communities he addressed...to become
the gospel, and in so doing to participate in the very life and mission of God (Gorman 2). Gorman
explores this idea by taking the reader through a look at the letters of Paul using a missio Dei lens, to
provide a new view of what Paul is teaching to these early Christian communities. Gorman begins by
developing the central idea of the mission die in the Pauline letters by having us consider what it
would do to our understanding to consider the mission of God in what Paul wrote in those letters. In
this chapter he defines for the rest of the book what he means by mission Dei. Gorman sums up Paul s
understanding as, God is on a mission to to liberate humanity...from the powers of sin and death
(Gorman 24). In the rest of chapter one Gorman develops this by looking at Paul, salvation and our
participation in God s mission. Next Gorman invites us to read Paul missionally, by introduction the
Missional Hermeneutic (Gorman 50). This hermeneutic is, reading the biblical text as witness to God s
purposes in the world and as an invitation to participate in...divine

Beatty Samuelson Essay
7. Bluffing can be ethical, depending on the circumstances and how it is employed. In fact, Beatty
Samuelson, in Essentials of Business Law, points out the Kantian evasion or plater , which serves as
the basis for deceiving someone in an ethical way. She describes it as a truthful statement that is
nonetheless misleading (36). For instance, Kant s example of a murderer coming to our door asking
for someone who is in our own home and who he wants to kill illustrates an instance when answering
questions fully could lead to terrible consequences (36). In that case, Samuelson argues, telling the
truth and pointing the killer to the victim would be very costly, so it is better to employ Kant s evasion
principle and reply with a truthful, but misleading statement. Immanuel Kant, according to Samuelson,

Although gender discrimination currently receives intermediate Fourteenth Amendment Scrutiny, they
should receive strict scrutiny. As Samuelson points out, like in the case of race, A government action
interfering with a fundamental right receives strict scrutiny and will likely be declared void (127).
Gender discrimination, just like race discrimination, should also be considered an interference with a
fundamental right and, therefore, receive strict scrutiny. The repercussions of the severe problem of
gender discrimination in American society can be seen in the gender pay gap in our country. In fact,
according to the Institute for Women s Policy Research, In 2014, female full time workers made only
79 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 21 percent. Women, on average, earn
less than men in virtually every single occupation for which there is sufficient earnings data for both
men and women to calculate an earnings ratio. The fact that women are discriminated on the basis of
gender in the workplace and paid less than men is sufficient to argue that gender discrimination should
be treated with the same scrutiny as race

Hearing Lips And Seeing Voices By Harry Mcgurk
Multi sensory integration is a process in which sensory input from one sense organ interacts with and
influences how other sense organs process this same input, and how these inputs combine to produce a
cohesive and unified perceptual experience (Talsma, Senkowski, Soto Faraco, and Woldorff, 2010). A
prime example of multi sensory integration is the process of speech perception which combines
auditory and visual inputs to form a cohesive and comprehensive speech percept (Nath and
Beauchamp, 2012). In their 1976 article Hearing Lips and Seeing Voices , Harry McGurk and John
MacDonald described a perceptual phenomenon they referred to as the McGurk effect (McGurk and

These McGurk and MacDonald studies were the first to demonstrate that visual stimuli can modify
speech perception when it is presented simultaneously with incongruent auditory stimuli. These
findings contested the traditional assumption that speech perception in face to face conversation was a
unimodal, rather than multi sensory process, that is, a strictly auditory process that was independent of
visual input (McGurk and MacDonald, 1976; Rouger, Fraysse, Degunie and Barone, 2007;
MacDonald and McGurk, 1978). Although McGurk and McDonald provided valuable insight into the
role of visual processes in speech perception, their initial studies did have some limitations, for
example, their manner place hypothesis failed to provide a comprehensive theory of the cognitive
processes involved in producing the McGurk effect. They also failed to measure their participant s
lipreading performances prior to conducting their study and thus, this potential confounding variable
was not taken into consideration. Furthermore, McGurk and MacDonald failed to explain why up to
one third of their participants did not experience the McGurk effect at all.
Since these original McGurk effect studies, there has been some debate between theorists and
researchers,

A Shortage Of Food Causing A Food Crisis Is Sweeping The...
Since 2008, a shortage of food causing a food crisis is sweeping the globe. The breadbasket of the
world, the United States also cannot escape it. There is not always enough food for this world, so
people have tried all kinds of ideas to produce more food. Unfortunately, land is limited for every
country, and people have to raise the output of every land. At the beginning, people used grafting.
Grafting merges the advantages of two plants. For example, the seedling of a corn which is drought
tolerant was transplanted to another kind of corn which is high producing, and the final corn will be
drought tolerant and high producing. Though the result is very good, it s very difficult and expensive
to transplant every plant. People innovated hybridization plants, but they are not stable. When the
gene was found, many scientists began researching how to transplant the gene to another plant, and
then we created Genetically Modified Organism food.
Farmers have widely adopted GM technology. Between 1996 and 2013, the total surface area of land
cultivated with GM crops increased by a factor of 100, from 17,000 square kilometers (4,200,000
acres) to 1,750,000 km2 (432 million acres). 10% of the world s croplands were planted with GM
crops in 2010. In the US, by 2014, 94% of the planted area of soybeans, 96% of cotton and 93% of
corn were genetically modified varieties. In recent years GM crops expanded rapidly in developing
countries. In 2013

Analysis Of The Book The Boy s The Striped Pajamas
In this Literary analysis report, of the book The Boy in the Striped Pajamas , I will be breaking down
the story. Starting with the beginning introducing the main protagonist and antagonist of the movie.
Then introducing the main conflict and how the protagonist tried to fix this problem, and how it was
solved. The final paragraph will break down the movie even further by explaining symbols, showing
what they mean, and how this movie depicted the real world. To start off, The movie The boy in the
striped pajamas was directed by Mark Herman. The Story starts off in Berlin during World War II. The
boy s father is a soldier and is commander of a concentration camp. So in order to do his job he has to
move his whole family closer to the camp. The rest of the story takes place in Auschwitz were the
concentration camp is located at. The protagonist of this story is a little boy named Bruno. He is an 8
year old German boy. Bruno doesn t know what really is going on in the war. He is still innocent,
during this time, all that he knows about the war is that his father is trying to make the world a better
place. The antagonist in this story is Bruno s dad. He is a very high official of the German army. He

Absolutism In Australia
Based on this classification, Evans argues that apart from its formal headship, all of Australia s
institutions exercising public power are modern republican . His comment suggests that in addition to
following Montesquieu s doctrine of separation of powers, which seeks to divide the power of the
government into three separate institutions, the Australian system also distributes power through a
system of checks and balances. However, unlike the American Constitution of 1787, which, as table 1
and figure 3 demonstrates, divides the judicial, the legislative, and the executive into three relatively
separate institutions that are confined to the exercise of its own function , Australia s system of rule
from above has led to what a former Vice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, early republican ideas did influence Australia s political culture. As McKenna and Hudson
note, since the colony of New South Wales was established in 1788, convicts were inspired by the
bloody outcome of the French Revolution and with the works of Thomas Paine. As a result, it was
during this period that a radical form of republicanism emerged as working class convicts quickly
asserted their independence from the British caste . In this sense, as loyalty to the Crown and
traditionalism became the framework for political activity, the shooting of the republican pig
highlighted that republicanism and anything outside of this traditional framework was considered to
be the antithesis of the common law. The idea of republicanism as the monarchy s political other
exacerbated in the 1830s. This is demonstrated by Governor Darling s letter in 1827, which states, the
colony can no longer be preserved...the free press and bias legislative councils may result in an
Australian republic . His letter highlight s that the struggle between the colonialists and the
republicans was beginning to shape the political culture of New South Wales. It should be noted that
the divisiveness over the republic also led to different strands of republicanism. For instance, in
addition to separatist yeomanry radical and conservative aristocratic republicanism, theological
republicanism was promoted under clergyman John Lang. In contrast to the aspirations of the Irish
radicals, Lang insisted that loyalty to Britain and equality under God would be the first priority for an
Australian republic. However, as Lang s attempts to appeal to the interests of the anti Transportation
League failed, Deniehy s utopian republicanism, which was based on nationalism and democracy,
gained mass support during the Eureka rebellion in 1854. Within two years, the emergence of colonial

Quantitative easing is increasing the flow of money into the financial system. Money has three
functions:

2. Store of value
3. Means of payment
Quantitative easing uses money as a means of payment. It is used as a tool of monetary policy when
the other tool of monetary policy which is interest rate is near zero and not increasing. Monetary
policy concerns the way in which government actions shift how money is used.
When was it used and why?
The Bank of England started to use quantitative easing in early 2009 as an act of loose monetary
policy to boost the economy after the recession of 2008. When economy falls into recession, incomes
fall as unemployment rises this means that the government pays more benefits increasing the budget
deficit. This also means that consumer expenditure decreases as consumptions fall with income
falling.
Therefore the excess expenditure needs to be covered it can be covered by taxes, issuing bonds,
issuing money. Increasing taxes will not work as unemployment has gone up. As well as this
increasing tax will not work

American Beauty Term Paper
Term Paper: American Beauty
What are the costs of living in a success driven, consumer oriented, image obsessed society? This
challenge to contemporary America s suburban culture finds a voice in Sam Mendes 1999 movie
American Beauty. The film s complex subtlety underscores its implication that subtlety itself is a
casualty in our society. American Beauty s tagline exhorts viewers to look closer, but the film
expresses ambivalence concerning what is revealed by closer inspection. On one hand, protagonist
Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) and his young neighbor Ricky Fitts (Wes Bentley) speak of the
unappreciated beauty surrounding us; however, Lester also begins to question the values of a world
that seems perfect but is actually a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mendes and cinematographer Conrad Hall substitute film of a lower resolution to add realism to shots
supposedly filmed with Ricky s video camera. Black and white footage in the closing montage
sequence differentiates Lester s memories of his life and family from the story time of the flashback
that makes up the rest of the movie. However, the most important feature of American Beauty s
camerawork is the use of the technique to reinforce the message of the movie s tagline, which tells
viewers to look closer. Though zoom out shots occasionally appear most notably in the closing
helicopter shot they are far outnumbered by zooms that bring the audience closer to the subject. This
preponderance not only contributes to the film s theme but also emphasizes zoom outs, particularly in
the final shot of the film. Ricky makes abundant use of the zoom feature on his camera, and because
his subject is often Jane, close ups on her are common. One particularly interesting example appears
in the scene of Angela spending the night with Jane in the movie s first section. The girls notice that
Ricky has spelled out Jane in the yard in burning letters. Surmising that Ricky is filming them, Jane
retreats flustered while Angela, ever the exhibitionist, dances at the window. Rather than focusing on
Angela, the crass, unsubtle beauty, Ricky zooms past her to settle on Jane s face reflected in a mirror.

A State Of Confusion And Dismay
I awaken in a state of confusion and dismay as to where I am and how I got here. I assign confusion to
being in a pitch black room, or what I assume to be a room, I cannot tell for sure because it s so dark
and empty. As I stumble around and try to find some sort of clue as to where I am, a blinding light
suddenly pierces through the darkness and shines with an unbearable heat against my pale face. I
begin to wonder if I am trapped in here for a reason, maybe I have done something to deserve this.
Maybe it was the time I stole from the local gas station, or maybe it was something much worse,
maybe it was something more evil and of morbid intent. As I lay on the hard ground trying to push
those dark memories deep inside my head, I begin to notice the light moving and change in brightness
almost as if someone was holding it. I get the weird sensation that I am not alone and am being
watched, but this feeling soon passes as I notice the room get hot and the air becomes thick with
humid air like a summer night after a long storm. The air continues to get thicker; I begin to feel
myself choking, and soon realize why I am in this place and just what it wants. My flight back home
landed around nine in the morning, and all around me I saw families reunited with their loved ones; all
around me was love and compassion which I had not felt in quite some time. I walked through the
snaking hallways of the airport looking for my family who had maybe gotten lost and was waiting at

Herman Melville s Moby Dick
In 1851, after reading the information from Owen Chase s diary and selecting information from his
own experience, Herman Melville wrote Moby Dick, a story about a one legged captain in search of
the whale responsible for devouring his leg, which is considered one of the greatest novels in
American literature. Herman Melville, born on August 1, 1819, admired every aspect of literature
from a young age. Having lost his father when he was only 13, he was forced to go to work to provide
for his family. Writing wasn t a priority for the young Melville but it was definitely inspiring to him.
Herman was influenced by many authors such as: William Shakespeare, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar
Allan Poe, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and more. However, because he had to work
rather than write, he held many positions such as: teacher, bank clerk, cabin boy, whaler, and finally,
in 1846, author. While he was a whaler for three years, encountering many personal events on the sea
and on strange islands, he heard a story about events from a whaling ship during 1819, the Essex,
which influenced his writing of Moby Dick. His novel wasn t highly regarded initially, especially in
England, where it was originally published. It failed to include the epilogue in the first edition,
therefore making it a target of great criticism. Future editions, including the American, did include the
epilogue. Although critics admired Melville s diction, style, and plot, the story didn t appeal to

O Connor s `` A Good Man Is Hard For Find `` And ``...
Flannery O Connor was a devout catholic whose writing was a reflection of the violence in the
temporal world. O Connor suffered with lupus which had a grave impact on her life, but that didn t
stop her from publishing many stories that achieved awards. O Connor s stories, A Good Man Is Hard
to Find and Good Country People are two examples of the talented woman s works that gained
popularity over the years. Through analyzing these short stories, one could insinuate that there are
many commonalities between the setting, characters, and themes of these stories.
In A Good Man Is Hard to Find, O Connor immediately introduces an older woman who was
completely against taking a family trip to Florida. Instead she was determined to redirect their trip
toward Tennessee. O Connor includes brief details of the woman that could lead the reader to believe
that she isn t completely sane. For example, as the old lady gets into the car, she was hiding a basket
with Pitty Sing, the cat, in it, (612). Fearing that the cat would miss her too much. The woman also
overdressed herself to the point where she was completely gaudy in case of an accident, anyone seeing
her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady, (612). These silly characteristics
create a witty scene for the road trip.
Along the way, the family stops to grab some food at a barbecue joint and the grandmother discusses
the unlikelihood of finding a trustworthy man during such a time with the owner of

Comparison Of The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras...
Mark Twain is known as a great author from his own unique style of writing. All his publications have
a similarity in a certain style of his writing which makes his works of art such amazing books. Chapter
12 of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The celebrated Jumping
Frog of Calaveras County , both written by Mark Twain have many similarities in the form of
figurative language, syntax, and diction.
To start with, Mark Twain s figurative language helps make his story unique. He utilises a range of
bizzare similes in both passages that make these stories stay true to the past and humorous. For
example in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Twain writes, ... cottonwood thick as harrow teeth .
This would be considered as one of his similes that are very unusual since many readers might not
know what a harrow even is but as you can infer, that in those times people in the book would have
known what he was speaking about. This shows how his bizzare similes stick to the time period of his
writing. To add, in the second publication the similes
Twain had integrated made the story a little more humorous to read. Twain writes, He was a different
dog, his underjaw d began to stick out like the fo castle of a steamboat,... (The celebrated Jumping
Frog of Calaveras County 6). This shows how his use of similes here was humorous since Twain made
fun of a dog with a large underbite. Although, his use of similes is fantastic his use of symbolism was
excellent also. ... Andrew jackson

important thing is Tuesday s job fair. I got my resume ready early, and I got to know more interested

situation, as well as the main work content. I also asked the most concerned about the issue, and one

Fear Of Tyranny
Before the year 1787, we were all in fear of tyranny. Thinking things would go back to like they were
in England, with the king having complete power over everyone and everything, a group of delegates
joined together to help calm these fears. They grouped in the summer of 1787, in the great land of
Philadelphia, and wrote everything down. They came up with laws and rules and government ideas
and formed it into what we call the Constitution of America (Background Essay). But how did this
help keep us from tyranny? Well, in the list of laws, we also had rules for our government and how it
would work. They split our government into three branches, the Legislative Branch, the Executive
Branch, and the Judicial Branch. Now, these branches work together

Beryl Markham s West With The Night
West with the Night is an autobiography by Beryl Markham, who is a pilot is Africa. In her book she
juxtaposes Africa and London and then extends that juxtaposition to stand for the universal feelings of
boredom and freedom. She chooses events from her job that highlight the difference between Africa
and London to characterize herself as exotic and unique. She opens this excerpt by telling the story of
transporting life saving oxygen to a dying old man. By choosing to reveal to us important and
dangerous events from her job she reveals that she thinks of herself as adventurous, out of the box,
and a hero.
In the beginning of this excerpt she compares her life in Africa where she claims she was unable to

We know from her description of London that she abhors being bored and she suggests that boredom
is tied to loneliness in her description of her life in Africa. In spite of this she confesses that Night
flying over charted country by aid of instruments and radio guidance can still be a lonely business, but
to fly in unbroken darkness without even the cold companionship of a pair of earphones or the
knowledge that somewhere ahead are lights and life and a well marked airport is something more than
just lonely. The experience of that something that is more than just lonely appears to be the thing that
she dislikes most about her job but she doesn t hesitate to night fly if someone should require her
assistance. She doesn t give any mind to the physical danger that is a part of flying an airplane at night
instead her only concern is whether or not she will be bored. Clearly for Markham her greatest fear is
not death but it is the experience of being under stimulated. It is clear from her description of her job
that countless times she has gone up into that airplane anyways and faced her worst fear. In doing so
Markham shows herself to be someone who is willing to sacrifice herself to help someone

The Weaknesses Of Marcus Brutus In Shakespeare s Julius...
At the end of William Shakespeare s Julius Ceasar, it was Marcus Antonius that said upon Marcus
Brutus death, This was the noblest Roman of them all... . I would have to agree with that statement for
many reasons. Though, what I ve seen as his strengths, there are some that also serve as his
weaknesses. Brutus lives by a strict moral compass and code of ethics entwined with a rigid sense of
idealism. All of which are great virtues but are also deadly flaws. Brutus acts out of a desire to limit
the self serving aspects of his actions. Ironically, however, in each instance, he dooms the very cause
that he seeks to promote, which does no one any good. Also, his commitment to principle repeatedly
leads him to make mistakes. In the play, where

Christianity in William Blake s Works
Christianity in Blake Theology is actually one of the many topics that frequently appears in a variety
of work of English poet William Blake. A brief overview of some of the author s more noted works
such as The Marriage of Heaven and Hell , The Book of Thel , and Songs of Innocence and
Experience readily attest to this fact. In Songs of Innocence and Experience, however, a number of the
author s poems seem to integrate a decidedly Christian worldview within their text and the cosmology
presented to readers through these works. This proclivity of Blake s is particularly salient in The
Chimney Sweeper and The Lamb . In fact, one can argue that most of the fundamental beliefs that
Christianity is based upon are found within these poems, which serve as excellent examples of the
author s tendency to write poems that adhere to a decidedly Christian viewpoint. Thematically, each of
the aforementioned poems details some of the central precepts in Christianity. This point is made
abundantly clear when one analyzes The Chimney Sweeper , which connotes situations that are
analogous to the redeeming grace of Jesus whose presence and divinity the religion of Christianity is
based upon for sinners: which is implied by the dirt and soot that characterizes the young chimney
sweepers in this poem. Within this poetic work Blake makes allusions to the sacrament of baptism, in
which the redeemed chimney sweepers are primarily able to earn God s grace after they wash in a
river

The True Pacifist Ending is achieved by sparing all the enemies that you encounter. In this ending, you
befriend all the main characters of the game including Undyne, Papyrus, and Alphys. You also don t

tells him that you have done nothing wrong, as you have just tried to befriend the monsters. After this,
the monsters will all follow you to the Surface as the barrier is opened. At the end, all the monsters
view a sunset on the Surface, and Asgore asks the player if they will be the ambassador for the
monsters, allowing them to achieve peace. These endings are quite philosophical and show what
would happen if RPGs were more realistic. This game s philosophy has completely changed how
gamers are viewed nowadays. The reason non gamers view gamers a certain way is because of the out
group homogeneity bias. As our brains crave nothing but efficiency, they attempt to group people of a
similar nature together. Also, as our brains are lazy, they do not try to find out as much about a group
as possible, but instead opt to base a group off of what information they are already getting. When
gamers are grouped, non gamers generally group anyone who plays a video game with others who
also play video games. This causes subgroups such as retro gamers, indie gamers, and casual gamers,
groups that are almost nothing alike, to be grouped

The War Of The Korean War
It all started with a split on the Korean Peninsula. Southern Korea was about to be woken up for a
crude awakening. June 25, 1950 is the start of it all, Korea was about to go under a civil war. The 38th
Parallel was the division line because it was the 38th degree north line of latitude. As soon as the
United States of America had been helpful in wars in the past, in many other wars so they helped the
Southern part of Korea become free of the communism that the North was pushing towards them.
Many Americans have never heard of the Korean War or briefly know of it, why is that? Well that is
because many Americans have forgotten about this war because this was not one that the United States
was fighting for ourselves and instead for the South Koreans. The Forgotten War is the nickname for
the Korean War, but here is where the importance of the United States that helped in the Korean War
is going to shine through. The veterans that had fought in this war had fought for South Korea s need
to not be controlled by communism and be controlled by Dictator Kim Il sung. The involvement in the
Korean War was to helped protect South Korea because the United States helped South Korea gain
their own independence from North Korea, to have South Korea not be controlled by communism like
how North Korea wanted them to be ruled with, and the United States helped in the after war era with
the tensions high between both North and South Korea. In Northern Korea the Soviet Union had

The U.s. Supreme Court
The U.S. Supreme Court is the highest federal court in the United States of America. This is expressed
in Article III, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution, which states that, The judicial power of the United
States, shall be vested in one Supreme Court. (1) They have jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to
federal and constitutional law, including the interpretation of such laws. Article III, Section 2 of the
U.S. Constitution clarifies the Supreme Court s judicial jurisdiction by stating that, Judicial power
shall extend to all cases, in Law and Equity, arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United

judiciary in the U.S. Constitution have allowed the courts to overrule state legislatures, Congress,
governors, and even presidents. They are able to strike down laws, rules, and regulations that are
interpreted as violations of federal or constitutional law.
There are several factors that influence Supreme Court decision making, many of which fall into two
categories of influence: political and legal. Demonstrated in the attitudinal model, a judge s attitudes

New Public Management ( Npm )
New Public Management (NPM) was developed in response to some criticisms of the public sector.
One of them is to make the public sector more financially accountable since they need to demonstrate
to the government who provides them funding, that the money is being put into good use. They also
need to ensure efficient resource allocation (Peyton) because resources are limited yet there is an
increase in expectations and demands. For example, number of public hospitals and medical expertise
may be insufficient to meet the public s demand. This is because government feel compelled to ensure
that everyone can access healthcare and is therefore, provided at a low cost. The problem is made
worse due to the growth of private hospitals, where quality of services is regarded as superior to
public hospitals. The public medical sector is thus under great pressure to improve service quality and
efficiency.
It is said that the new public management reforms have made public sector organisations more
calculable and accountable. First of all, it is important to define these terms. Calculable means the
ability to measure and assess the worth of something. In our context, it often means putting monetary
value on tangibles and intangibles. Accountable means being held responsible for actions taken and
the ability to answer to those who are involved in the process. Accountability can be towards donors
(upwards) or towards beneficiaries (downwards). In order to investigate this statement

Truman Capote s Cold Blood
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is considered one of the first novels to establish a new genre. Capote
combined fictional elements to a real crime story that set the groundwork for future true crime novels.
The foundation of the story is the tragic murder of the Clutter family, Herbert, Bonnie, Nancy, and
Kenyon, and the effect it had on small town of Holcomb, Kansas. In Cold Blood is a journalistic novel
that has the credibility of fact, the immediacy of film, the depth and freedom of prose, and the
precision of poetry, . Throughout the novel, Capote switches between the perspective of the killers, the

who was cut a man s man figure. His shoulders were broad... his square jawed confident face retained

The Return Of Depression Economics
2008 Economics Noble Prize winner and Princeton University professor, Paul Krugman, translates the
roots of modern and prior financial crisis economics. In his book, The Return of Depression
Economics and The Crisis of 2008, Krugman first educates the reader of historical and foreign
financial crises which allows for a deeper understanding of the modern financial system. The context
provided from the historical analysis proves to be a crucial prospective in such a way that the rest of
Krugman s narrative about modern finance continually relates back to the historical analysis. From
there, Krugman analyzes and updates his prior studies done on the Asian financial crisis. He then
applies his knowledge from historical events to the modern day financial struggles and argues his
opinion about how and why our financial world operates the way it does. Krugman explains his
perspective that the world believed that depression economics was no longer a problem, however the
Asian crisis, Japan s liquidity trap and the Latin American crisis having acted as warning signals to
modern market struggles. Thus he says that this subject needs further examination and more resources
should be poured into it. For Krugman, Depression Economics is still a relevant problem and should
be further studied.
On top of simply translating past and present financial systems, Krugman dissects the interconnection
between economics and politics. Starting with the rise of socialism, many governments took on

Essay On Physical Contact
Physical Contact in the Arab World vs. the West
Bayader Al Ghamdi
Effat University
Junior Year
GSEM 200
Introduction: Physical contact is a form of communication that requires no verbal communication or
writing in order to be understood although it may differ from one country and culture to another. Body
language is considered to be a silent form of communications that succeeds to deliver an idea or a
message. Most of the time, hand gestures and physical contact are known to be more effective than
words. The most important thing in communication is hearing what is not said. (Peter Durocher, 1967,
p2). Such as, a wide smile on a child s face can say more than a thousand words could ever say. Thus,
there are many forms of nonverbal communications that touch the deep sense of humanity. Physical
interaction is one of the most essential factors of human communication. Generally, it is considered as
a strong form of communication. The human body is the best picture of the human soul , Ludwig
Wittgenstein. Physical contact can help an individual gain another person s trust over a short period of
time. However, it is still a complex topic because it differs from one culture to another. Each culture
has its own traditions and ideologies. Furthermore, in some culture, certain forms of physical contact
are considered forbidden, offensive or taboo. This paper aims to answer the following questions: ...

Sodium Hypochlorite
Description
When our favorite white T shirt gets badly stained, we reach for our favorite laundry detergent that
contains bleach. The bleaching agent present in the detergent is a chemical called sodium
hypochlorite, which is the focus of our discussion in this lesson.
!!!What is Sodium Hypochlorite?
When our favorite articles of clothing get stained, and when we need to clean our bathrooms, we reach
for our laundry detergent household cleaners that contain bleach.
Bleach
The main constituent of household bleach is a chemical called sodium hypochlorite. __Sodium
hypochlorite__ in liquid form is greenish or yellowish in color and is commonly referred to as bleach
because it is the active ingredient in bleach. Its chemical formula is __NaClO__, composed of one
sodium (Na) atom, one chlorine (Cl) atom and one oxygen (O) atom. Its chemical structure shows that
hypochlorite ion (ClO ) has an ionic bond with sodium (Na+) ion.
Sodium Hypochlorite Chemical Structure
Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) is produced by a process known as the __Hooker process__, which is
the method used for a large scale production of NaClO. In the Hooker process, sodium hydroxide
(NaOH) is exposed to chlorine gas (Cl2). Along with sodium hypochlorite, the reaction between these
two substances produces sodium chloride (NaCl), water (H2O):

Much Ado About Nothing Structuralism Essay
Like Father, Like Daughter: Structuralism Amongst the Women in Shakespeare
During the Renaissance, it was common for women to behave in a certain manner in a patriarchal
society. Women were subordinate to any man in their life, whether it was a husband or a father.
However, Shakespeare creates female roles in his plays that often steer away from the common script.
These women challenge, deceive, and steal from these men, including one s closest to them in their
lives. In Merchant of Venice, young Portia and Jessica are two examples of these strayed female
characters. They feel trapped in the hands of their father s and do their best to break free of that hold.

This shows the extreme version of a rebellious teenager in order to escape her father. Once Shylock
finds out his daughter has disappeared with his money and jewels, he is outwardly upset with the fact
that his possessions are gone. He even states that he wished his daughter were dead at [his] foot, and
the jewels in her ear! Would she were hearsed at [his] foot, and the ducats in her coffin! (Act III,
Scene i, 76 79). Surely, one can t believe there are any similarities in this relationship, however,
structuralism shows the underlying pattern between Shylock and Jessica. Diane Dreher author of
Domination and Defiance: Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare, points out that the two hold a
common trait: Greed. Shylock s greed is expressed through his constant talk on commerce and his
precious ducats, and Jessica has inherited that ideology. Before running away with Lorenzo, she drops
down a basket filled with money and jewels belonging to her father. One would assume it was an act
of reprisal, however, Dreher argues it is greed much like her father s. She describes her as bad and
disloyal, unfilial, a thief; frivolous, greedy, without any more conscience than a cat, (pg. 102). These
two characters know that money holds a powerful position in their lives. Along with this greed, both
are very determined characters in terms of fighting for what they want. With Shylock, he is constantly
trying to receive justice through the deal he made with Antonio. Despite the strange request, he
demands that he receives his pound of flesh from Antonio and stops at nothing to see it through. This
passion can be seen in Jessica as well when she is determined to marry Lorenzo despite her father s
wishes. She gets to the point of disguising herself as a man in order to be with him. She goes great

easier to compute [pic] and to give the correlation the sign of [pic] . But note that the correlation can
range from +1 to 1, while the coefficient of determination can only range from 0 to 1. Also note that
since the slope in simple regression is [pic] , [pic] or [pic] or [pic]. The last equation has a counterpart

Example: [pic] applicants are rated by [pic]officers. The ranks are below. [pic]Note that if we had
complete disagreement, every applicant would have a rank sum of 10.5. [pic]. The Kendall Coefficient
of Concordance says that the degree of agreement on a zero to one scale is [pic]. To do a test of the
null hypothesis of disagreement [pic], look up [pic] in the table giving Critical values of Kendall s
[pic] as a Measure of Concordance for [pic] and [pic], [pic]so that we accept the null hypothesis of
disagreement.. Example: For [pic] and [pic] we get [pic], and wish to test [pic] Since [pic] is too large
for the table, use [pic]. Using a [pic] table, look up [pic] . Since 9 is below the table value, do not

then the square root of [pic] , [pic] is called the multiple correlation coefficient. Note that [pic] where
[pic] is the sample variance of [pic], and that for large [pic], [pic]. 5. Partial Correlation (Optional) If
[pic], its multiple correlation coefficient can be written as [pic] or [pic]. For example, in the multiple
regression problem, we got three multiple correlation coefficients [pic], [pic] and [pic] If [pic] and we

Describe The Relationship Between Polonius And Ophelia
As a father, Polonius immediately cautions Ophelia from Hamlet s affections. His lecture lasts a
lengthy 20 lines, displaying his passion in keeping Ophelia away from Hamlet. Although the speech is
full of criticism, his fatherly concern is clear in his warnings. In this lecture, Polonius uses a special
image in order to illustrate his perspective and fear for Ophelia s relationship with Hamlet: These
blazes, daughter, Giving more light than heat, extinct in both Even in their promise as it a making, You
must not take for fire. (I.iii.126 129) Polonius specifically chooses blazes as the image to bring
attention to its short intensity. Compared to normal fire, blazes are large and fierce which means that
people are at greater risks of getting hurt. Also, due to the bright intensity, they also die out quicker.
This suggests that Polonius believes Hamlet s current passion will end quickly and Ophelia would be
hurt as a result. Instead of being optimistic, Polonius immediately takes a ... Show more content on

Although Ophelia tries to persuade her father of the strength of Hamlet s love by mentioning he said
to her almost all the holy vows of heaven, Polonius rejects the validity of them (I.iii.123). Vows have a
connotation of solemn and unbreakable which enforces the heavy duty that comes from uplifting
them. Religion is also a crucial part of people s lives, further increasing the seriousness of the vows.
With this, the vows Hamlet promises Ophelia seem everlasting. However, Ophelia states that he only
says almost all which means that the important vow, marriage, is left out. Therefore, Polonis labels the
sacred vows that Hamlet tells Ophelia as an insincere promise. Since Ophelia s relationship with
Hamlet is not cemented as official or marriage, Polonius views their relationship as ephemeral and
therefore strongly encourages her to limit communications with

Landslide Limousines Performance Management Framework
HRM/531

Pamela Jones
A strategic performance management framework is very essential for the success of our client,
Bradley Stonefield of Landslide Limousine. It is imperative to explore the characteristics for a
performance management framework. For us to create an efficient, successful performance
management framework, we must incorporate the four levels of training assessment in developing a
comprehensive job analysis. The recommendations for a performance management framework are
also aligned to the organizational business strategy as identified by Mr. Stonefield. As ... Show more

Positive job responsible parties employees will influence their level of ethical job performance, such
that employees with more positive job responses will engage in higher levels of ethical job
performance that employees with less positive job responses) (Valentine, 2010, p. 197). Since drivers
are unsupervised and interact directly with clientele, it is of paramount importance that drivers display
professional attitudes and exemplary customer service. To aid better attitude and exemplary job
performance, it is recommended that a philosophy of autonomy and free will is incorporated into the
job narrative for drivers and dispatch. Studies show that when employees leave that there is an
element of free will in their work, they perform better and demonstrate better workplace behavior
(Stillman, 2010). Specifically, research has concluded that belief in free will facilitates control
behavior and buffers against impulsive action, which, in turn, translates to better job performance
(Stillman, 2010, p. 48). Therefore, by incorporating a philosophy of autonomy into employee
expectations and job analysis, Landslide Limousines will increase the positive performance of
employees.

William Shakespeare s The Prince And Julius Caesar
Texts are a reflection of its contextual values; it is evident that aspects of human nature remain
constant irrespective of context. Texts ruminative of this include Tim Parks translation of Niccolo
Machiavelli s The Prince (1532) and William Shakespeare s historical tragedy Julius Caesar (1599).
The values and attitudes of these two texts anticipated responders and influenced purpose, form and
content such as the darker aspects of humanism, the changeless nature of man, and the fickle nature of
people.
Machiavelli s text The Prince mirrors the darker aspects of humanism man is essentially corrupt, self
serving and deceptive . His intended responders were a select of people in power and of educated elite,

Machiavelli suggests that the most supreme approach to change the degenerate individual into a
decent individual is through the good law, although even the best law is pointless. Machiavelli
characterizes man as being self serving and not willing to act in the best interest of the state, and when
the prince is in danger they turn against him . Machiavelli strengthens the prince s need to be feared
by stating, Men worry less about doing an injury to one who makes himself loved than to one who
makes himself feared . To acquire honour, Machiavelli suggests that a prince must be readily willing
to deceive the citizens. These treacherous measures would bring the prince honour and trust among the
citizen, suggesting that man s nature is changeless, which is exemplified in Shakespeare s Julius
Caesar through the character of Mark Antony.
Mark Antony in Julius Caesar abandoned Caesar as soon as he is killed and to seek his own glory.
Being a true friend of Caesar, Mark Antony promises Caesar s soul that he would seek revenge against
the conspirators for his brutal murder, And Caesar s spirit, ranging for revenge, with Ate by his side
come hot from hell...That this foul deed shall smell above the earth with carrion men, groaning for
burial. . Shakespeare utilizes dramatic irony when Brutus takes Antony s promise of not saying
anything against the conspirators in front of the crowd for the audience know

The Curriculum And Lesson Planning
Teacher Interview During the interview I asked Ms. Mandy questions about the curriculum and lesson
planning. During the summer she works with kindergarten and first grade. When the children go back
to school she works with the younger groups. She is working in a toddler room. For Ms. Mandy a
good teacher is someone who is reliable patient, and compassionate. She also believes teachers should
get down to the child s level and to pay attention to the children s needs in order to be a good teacher.
In Ms. Mandy s workplace they use Creative Curriculum. Creative Curriculum is to teach children to
be thinkers. Teachers will observe and document the child s development throughout the time the child
is in the center. When creating the lesson plans they include the objectives the children should learn
from the activities. To Ms. Mandy the Creative Curriculum is a guideline for her to have
developmentally appropriate practice for her lesson planning. She said that the Creative Curriculum
aligns with the Illinois Early Learning Standards which goes along with the Common Core. From
what I see is that birth through kindergarten the daycare centers use the Creative Curriculum to see
their developmental process and then when the children start heading off to public school. The public
schools use the Common Core to prepare them for college and the workforce. I feel that this is good to
align these two types of tools to help children succeed in school and life. Ms. Mandy said that they

Catheterization Research Paper
Catheters are tubes that are used to drain fluids from the body. They are often employed in removing
the fluid from the urinary bladder and therefore, are an important element in urology care. It is
important to understand their importance and correct use, if you are looking to take care of a patient. It
used in a variety of environments.
Here, we first look at how catheters are used and then discuss the problems that may appear when they
are not used in the proper manner.
Catheters in Urology Care
Catheters are basically connected either to a bodily vessel or a cavity. They can be used to either drain
body fluids or push medicine into the body. Catheterization can be done, using a number of needles
and tubes. Some of them are soft while some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are easily employed by a patient or a trained caregiver at home and therefore, ensure that they
can be used in different circumstances. They are perfect for people who have lost their urinary control
due to a variety of reasons.
The advantage of this method is that you can avoid constant catheterization which is associated with
several problems, such as male infertility and tract infections. The method also ensures that patients
can keep their bladder pressure low throughout the day. These catheters do not cause prolonged issues
and can easily be avoided once the person is able to use ordinary methods.
Foley Catheter A Foley catheter is designed to be connected to the bladder through the urethra. It is the
most commonly used catheter in urology care. It has two channels with one open and the other one
with a balloon. The open channel is used to drain urine out while the closed channel is used to inflate
the balloon. The inflation keeps a Foley catheter in place. These catheters are created these days from
silicone rubber.
They should only be used when indicated by a medical practitioner. As they are inserted through the
urethra, they carry a greater risk of infections and other side effects.

By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will first discuss these activities before turning to mainstream and ethnic media. Dual nature of othering Authors (Bailey et al., 2007; Canales, 2000; Haynes et al., 2006) acknowledge the dual nature of the process of othering where it simultaneously causes exclusion and inclusion. Haynes et al. (2006) formulate it precisely when they state that the construction of an other is, in fact, a dual process whereby an imagined included us is created through the construction of an excluded other (p.13). Exclusionary othering uses the power within relationships for domination and subordination. People who experience this form of othering often experience alienation, marginalization, decreased opportunities, internalized oppression and exclusion. Inclusionary othering on the other hand, attempts to utilize power within relationships for transformation and coalition building. Individuals who experience this form of othering , potentially undergo consciousness raising, sense of community, shared power and inclusion (Canales, 2000). Complementing this dual nature of othering , Schmidt Bunkers (2003) explains the remarkable paradox concerning the other: Never has the world been more dangerous, with terrorism continuing to spark suspicions of those that are different from us. And, never, at the same time, has the world been more in need of finding ways to embrace those that are different and those that are viewed as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How does the presence of three different sectarian groups (Christian, Sunni, Shiite) affect the political, economic, and social stability of a nation is an interdisciplinary research question because it seeks to understand the relationship between the economics and its key insights while examining the political environment can led to conflict and how that conflict was exacerbated by the involvement of many different cultural sects. Analyzing the case of Lebanon requires an interdisciplinary approach for several reasons. First, the problem is complex, meaning that there are several components and each components has a different disciplinary character. Second, important insights into the problem have been produced by expects from multiple disciplines. Third, no single disciplinary approach has been able to address this problem comprehensively. Fourth, the case of Lebanon falls within the research domains of several disciplines. By establishing these links across disciplinary knowledge domains requires creating common ground and performing integration, which is a distinct feature of interdisciplinarity. The scope of this study will focus on the nation of Lebanon with the events unraveling sense the early 1970 s until today. The composition of the Lebanese society allows us to examine how the presence of Christian, Sunni, and Shiite camps can lead to social instability with war being the most extreme manifestation of civil strife. • 4. Tactical Training Essay Since day one in the Army, we have all heard leaders use phrases such as train as you fight and train to standard . Surprisingly these are not just some catchy phrases that someone made up to motivate soldiers. These phrases, and many more come directly out of an Army manual, the ADP 7 0 to be precise. So why are we talking about this? Well, to paraphrase ADP 7 0, unit training is the life blood of the Army. (Headquarters, D.A., 2012) Train as you will fight; ADP 7 0 defines this as training under an expected operational environment for the mission . It goes on to talk about establishing things that a unit can expect to face in an operational environment. I think we as a whole have become very good at this over the last 15 years. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a much larger threat to us as aviators then we are used to dealing with, and we cannot continue to rely on the same tactics to keep us save. So what must we do? This is where we have to change the way we think, act, and fight. Tactical training needs to become as important as our emergency procedure (EP) training is to us. When training EP s, we train the maneuvers to the point that rote memorization turns into understanding and correlation, you don t even have to think about what to do, it is just instinctive. Unfortunately, we do not share the same thoughts when it comes to tactical training. It has been argued that when your aircraft is engaged by the enemy you are now in an emergency, so why not treat it the same as a mechanical malfunction?(US, DOT, FAA, 2008) The importance of realistic tactical training goes back to the train as you fight saying. It will allow us as aviators to fine tune our skills not only as individuals but as teams as well. That way, when we are faced with a real life scenario, it is not the first time we are thinking about it and everyone knows what everyone else is going to do. Ultimately the most important part of using realistic training is so we can bring everyone back home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By stripping away the few choices the natives once had, the men no longer have any way to go. With this in mind, this photo looks more at the struggles of an individual with alcoholism. The bottle represents alcoholism s tendency to trap its victims. In Reservation Blues, the men are said to be trapped on the reservation by the beer they indulge themselves in. Therefore, the man is trapped within the bottle and without a means of escape. • 6. The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood By John Everett Millais The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded by John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and William Holman Hunt who were students at the Royal Academy. Millais, Rossetti, and Hunt were dissatisfied with the academy teaching students to mimic renaissance masters like Raphael, and sought to create art reminiscent of the medieval period. In addition for their distaste for renaissance perfection in art the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood were inspired by the theories of writer and art critic, John Ruskin. Ruskin encouraged artist to go back to nature, as well as show moral and material truth in their art via the use of symbols and more naturalistic depictions of nature (Harrison, Wood and Gaiger, 200). The Brotherhood at its inception strove to transmit a message of artistic renewal and moral reform by imbuing their art with seriousness, sincerity, and truth to nature. (Meagher) From Millais I will focus on one of his more famous paintings Ophelia, followed by Rossetti s Proserpine, and Hunt s Awakening Conscience. John Everett Millais Ophelia painted in 1851 is a depiction of noble woman Ophelia from Shakespeare s Hamlet. Ophelia s story is tragic as she loses the favour of price Hamlet who then goes on to kill Ophelia s father. • 7. Heterosexism And Sexism Sexism and Heterosexism Sexism is a type of discrimination which I feel is such a part of our culture that we often do not even recognize it and it is widely overlooked. Johnson (2013) suggests we need to deal with the social roots that generate and nurture the social problems that are reflected in the behavior of individuals (p. 335). Unquestionably, it becomes difficult to recognize, and therefore begin to change, that which is the social norm in our world; and yet, to do nothing perpetuates the problem of a patriarchal culture (Johnson, 2013). • 11. Hamlet Madness Analysis One of the most controversial arguments about William Shakespeare s Hamlet is whether Hamlet, indeed, went insane or if his madness was no more than an act. Proof for the latter is given in several instances throughout the play; Hamlet undeniably kept his sanity intact. Loved ones of Hamlet insinuate that he is not mad. Hamlet himself justifies that his mental state is sound. Shakespeare also shows what he believes is the true definition of madness in the character Ophelia, not Hamlet. Even though Hamlet s disposition seems as that of a madman, statements of others around him, declarations from Hamlet himself, and contrasts between Ophelia and Hamlet prove otherwise. Amid his feigning of madness, several individuals suspect that Hamlet truly is sane; encounters with Claudius, Gertrude, and Polonius show that Hamlet s rather false insanity is possibly discovered. Claudius, of course, pays very close attention to every move Hamlet makes. After all, Claudius did kill his father and marry his mother shortly thereafter. When Hamlet begins his mad behavior the king states, ...what he spake, though it lack d form a little, / Was not like madness. There s something in his soul... (56). King Claudius believes that even though Hamlet is acting differently, he is not mad. He specifically states that what Hamlet says is not like madness at all, yet he feels as though there is something else within Hamlet s soul that is bothering him. Upon Claudius and Polonius informing Gertrude of what they believe is the source of Hamlet s behavior, Gertrude reminds them ...that it is no other but the main: his father s death and our [Gertrude and Claudius] o erhasty marriage (35). Thus, both Hamlet s uncle father and aunt mother declare their son sane and decide that something else is making him act oddly apart from madness (44). • 12. Becoming The Gospel Michael Gorman In his new book Becoming the Gospel Michael Gorman provides an interesting look at the life and letters of the apostle Paul. Gorman wants his readers to consider that more than knowing the gospel and its power to save, Paul want his recipients of his letters to live out the gospel in their lives. Thus Gorman s central argument in this book is that Paul wanted the communities he addressed...to become the gospel, and in so doing to participate in the very life and mission of God (Gorman 2). Gorman explores this idea by taking the reader through a look at the letters of Paul using a missio Dei lens, to provide a new view of what Paul is teaching to these early Christian communities. Gorman begins by developing the central idea of the mission die in the Pauline letters by having us consider what it would do to our understanding to consider the mission of God in what Paul wrote in those letters. In this chapter he defines for the rest of the book what he means by mission Dei. Gorman sums up Paul s understanding as, God is on a mission to to liberate humanity...from the powers of sin and death (Gorman 24). In the rest of chapter one Gorman develops this by looking at Paul, salvation and our participation in God s mission. In fact, Beatty Samuelson, in Essentials of Business Law, points out the Kantian evasion or plater , which serves as the basis for deceiving someone in an ethical way. She describes it as a truthful statement that is nonetheless misleading (36). For instance, Kant s example of a murderer coming to our door asking for someone who is in our own home and who he wants to kill illustrates an instance when answering questions fully could lead to terrible consequences (36). Hearing Lips And Seeing Voices By Harry Mcgurk Multi sensory integration is a process in which sensory input from one sense organ interacts with and influences how other sense organs process this same input, and how these inputs combine to produce a cohesive and unified perceptual experience (Talsma, Senkowski, Soto Faraco, and Woldorff, 2010). A prime example of multi sensory integration is the process of speech perception which combines auditory and visual inputs to form a cohesive and comprehensive speech percept (Nath and Beauchamp, 2012). Although McGurk and McDonald provided valuable insight into the role of visual processes in speech perception, their initial studies did have some limitations, for example, their manner place hypothesis failed to provide a comprehensive theory of the cognitive processes involved in producing the McGurk effect. The breadbasket of the world, the United States also cannot escape it. There is not always enough food for this world, so people have tried all kinds of ideas to produce more food. Unfortunately, land is limited for every country, and people have to raise the output of every land. At the beginning, people used grafting. Grafting merges the advantages of two plants. For example, the seedling of a corn which is drought tolerant was transplanted to another kind of corn which is high producing, and the final corn will be drought tolerant and high producing. Though the result is very good, it s very difficult and expensive to transplant every plant. People innovated hybridization plants, but they are not stable. When the gene was found, many scientists began researching how to transplant the gene to another plant, and then we created Genetically Modified Organism food. However, unlike the American Constitution of 1787, which, as table 1 and figure 3 demonstrates, divides the judicial, the legislative, and the executive into three relatively separate institutions that are confined to the exercise of its own function , Australia s system of rule from above has led to what a former Vice ... As McKenna and Hudson note, since the colony of New South Wales was established in 1788, convicts were inspired by the bloody outcome of the French Revolution and with the works of Thomas Paine. As a result, it was during this period that a radical form of republicanism emerged as working class convicts quickly asserted their independence from the British caste . In this sense, as loyalty to the Crown and traditionalism became the framework for political activity, the shooting of the republican pig highlighted that republicanism and anything outside of this traditional framework was considered to be the antithesis of the common law. The idea of republicanism as the monarchy s political other exacerbated in the 1830s. His letter highlight s that the struggle between the colonialists and the republicans was beginning to shape the political culture of New South Wales. It should be noted that the divisiveness over the republic also led to different strands of republicanism. For instance, in addition to separatist yeomanry radical and conservative aristocratic republicanism, theological republicanism was promoted under clergyman John Lang. In contrast to the aspirations of the Irish radicals, Lang insisted that loyalty to Britain and equality under God would be the first priority for an Australian republic. Why The Bank Of England Introduced A Quantitative Easing... this essay I will be explaining why the Bank of England introduced a quantitative easing programme and how it operates as well as explaining the effect this programme has had by evaluating if it has been successful. My essay is in five sections: what is quantitative easing, when was it used and why, how does it work, impacts of the programme and finally has it been successful. What is quantitative easing? Quantitative easing is increasing the flow of money into the financial system. Money has three functions: 1. Unit of account 2. Store of value 3. Means of payment Quantitative easing uses money as a means of payment. It is used as a tool of monetary policy when the other tool of monetary policy which is interest rate is near zero and not increasing. Monetary policy concerns the way in which government actions shift how money is used. When was it used and why? The Bank of England started to use quantitative easing in early 2009 as an act of loose monetary policy to boost the economy after the recession of 2008. When economy falls into recession, incomes fall as unemployment rises this means that the government pays more benefits increasing the budget deficit. This also means that consumer expenditure decreases as consumptions fall with income falling. Therefore the excess expenditure needs to be covered it can be covered by taxes, issuing bonds, issuing money. Increasing taxes will not work as unemployment has gone up. Herman Melville, born on August 1, 1819, admired every aspect of literature from a young age. Having lost his father when he was only 13, he was forced to go to work to provide for his family. To start with, Mark Twain s figurative language helps make his story unique. He utilises a range of bizzare similes in both passages that make these stories stay true to the past and humorous. For example in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Twain writes, ... cottonwood thick as harrow teeth . Twain writes, He was a different dog, his underjaw d began to stick out like the fo castle of a steamboat,... (The celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County 6). Thinking things would go back to like they were in England, with the king having complete power over everyone and everything, a group of delegates joined together to help calm these fears. They grouped in the summer of 1787, in the great land of Philadelphia, and wrote everything down. They came up with laws and rules and government ideas and formed it into what we call the Constitution of America (Background Essay). But how did this help keep us from tyranny? Well, in the list of laws, we also had rules for our government and how it would work. They split our government into three branches, the Legislative Branch, the Executive Branch, and the Judicial Branch. Now, these branches work together ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In her book she juxtaposes Africa and London and then extends that juxtaposition to stand for the universal feelings of boredom and freedom. She chooses events from her job that highlight the difference between Africa and London to characterize herself as exotic and unique. She opens this excerpt by telling the story of transporting life saving oxygen to a dying old man. By choosing to reveal to us important and dangerous events from her job she reveals that she thinks of herself as adventurous, out of the box, and a hero. We know from her description of London that she abhors being bored and she suggests that boredom is tied to loneliness in her description of her life in Africa. In spite of this she confesses that Night flying over charted country by aid of instruments and radio guidance can still be a lonely business, but to fly in unbroken darkness without even the cold companionship of a pair of earphones or the knowledge that somewhere ahead are lights and life and a well marked airport is something more than just lonely. The experience of that something that is more than just lonely appears to be the thing that she dislikes most about her job but she doesn t hesitate to night fly if someone should require her assistance. She doesn t give any mind to the physical danger that is a part of flying an airplane at night instead her only concern is whether or not she will be bored. Clearly for Markham her greatest fear is not death but it is the experience of being under stimulated. At the end of William Shakespeare s Julius Ceasar, it was Marcus Antonius that said upon Marcus Brutus death, This was the noblest Roman of them all... . I would have to agree with that statement for many reasons. Though, what I ve seen as his strengths, there are some that also serve as his weaknesses. Brutus lives by a strict moral compass and code of ethics entwined with a rigid sense of idealism. All of which are great virtues but are also deadly flaws. Brutus acts out of a desire to limit the self serving aspects of his actions. Ironically, however, in each instance, he dooms the very cause that he seeks to promote, which does no one any good. Also, his commitment to principle repeatedly leads him to make mistakes. In the play, where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Christianity in William Blake s Works Christianity in Blake Theology is actually one of the many topics that frequently appears in a variety of work of English poet William Blake. A brief overview of some of the author s more noted works such as The Marriage of Heaven and Hell , The Book of Thel , and Songs of Innocence and Experience readily attest to this fact. In Songs of Innocence and Experience, however, a number of the author s poems seem to integrate a decidedly Christian worldview within their text and the cosmology presented to readers through these works. This proclivity of Blake s is particularly salient in The Chimney Sweeper and The Lamb . In fact, one can argue that most of the fundamental beliefs that Christianity is based upon are found within these poems, which serve as excellent examples of the author s tendency to write poems that adhere to a decidedly Christian viewpoint. Thematically, each of the aforementioned poems details some of the central precepts in Christianity. This point is made abundantly clear when one analyzes The Chimney Sweeper , which connotes situations that are analogous to the redeeming grace of Jesus whose presence and divinity the religion of Christianity is based upon for sinners: which is implied by the dirt and soot that characterizes the young chimney sweepers in this poem. Within this poetic work Blake makes allusions to the sacrament of baptism, in which the redeemed chimney sweepers are primarily able to earn God s grace after they wash in a river ... The story goes like this: You are a child that has tried to climb the tall mountain known simply as Mt. Ebbett. As you are climbing, you fall into a deep hole, and realize you have fallen into what is known as the Underground. The Underground is a land where monsters were sealed away after a long and terrifying war. You are told by many characters that to exit the Underground, you must find the barrier. At the end, all the monsters view a sunset on the Surface, and Asgore asks the player if they will be the ambassador for the monsters, allowing them to achieve peace. These endings are quite philosophical and show what would happen if RPGs were more realistic. This game s philosophy has completely changed how gamers are viewed nowadays. The reason non gamers view gamers a certain way is because of the out group homogeneity bias. As our brains crave nothing but efficiency, they attempt to group people of a similar nature together. Also, as our brains are lazy, they do not try to find out as much about a group as possible, but instead opt to base a group off of what information they are already getting. • 35. New Public Management ( Npm ) New Public Management (NPM) was developed in response to some criticisms of the public sector. One of them is to make the public sector more financially accountable since they need to demonstrate to the government who provides them funding, that the money is being put into good use. They also need to ensure efficient resource allocation (Peyton) because resources are limited yet there is an increase in expectations and demands. For example, number of public hospitals and medical expertise may be insufficient to meet the public s demand. This is because government feel compelled to ensure that everyone can access healthcare and is therefore, provided at a low cost. The problem is made worse due to the growth of private hospitals, where quality of services is regarded as superior to public hospitals. The public medical sector is thus under great pressure to improve service quality and efficiency. It is said that the new public management reforms have made public sector organisations more calculable and accountable. First of all, it is important to define these terms. Calculable means the ability to measure and assess the worth of something. In our context, it often means putting monetary value on tangibles and intangibles. Accountable means being held responsible for actions taken and the ability to answer to those who are involved in the process. Accountability can be towards donors (upwards) or towards beneficiaries (downwards). In order to investigate this statement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his book, The Return of Depression Economics and The Crisis of 2008, Krugman first educates the reader of historical and foreign financial crises which allows for a deeper understanding of the modern financial system. The context provided from the historical analysis proves to be a crucial prospective in such a way that the rest of Krugman s narrative about modern finance continually relates back to the historical analysis. From there, Krugman analyzes and updates his prior studies done on the Asian financial crisis. He then applies his knowledge from historical events to the modern day financial struggles and argues his opinion about how and why our financial world operates the way it does. Krugman explains his perspective that the world believed that depression economics was no longer a problem, however the Asian crisis, Japan s liquidity trap and the Latin American crisis having acted as warning signals to modern market struggles. Thus he says that this subject needs further examination and more resources should be poured into it. For Krugman, Depression Economics is still a relevant problem and should be further studied. On top of simply translating past and present financial systems, Krugman dissects the interconnection between economics and politics. Starting with the rise of socialism, many governments took on ... Essay On Physical Contact Physical Contact in the Arab World vs. the West Bayader Al Ghamdi Effat University Junior Year GSEM 200 Introduction: Physical contact is a form of communication that requires no verbal communication or writing in order to be understood although it may differ from one country and culture to another. Body language is considered to be a silent form of communications that succeeds to deliver an idea or a message. Most of the time, hand gestures and physical contact are known to be more effective than words. The most important thing in communication is hearing what is not said. (Peter Durocher, 1967, p2). Such as, a wide smile on a child s face can say more than a thousand words could ever say. Thus, there are many forms of nonverbal communications that touch the deep sense of humanity. Physical interaction is one of the most essential factors of human communication. Generally, it is considered as a strong form of communication. The human body is the best picture of the human soul , Ludwig Wittgenstein. Physical contact can help an individual gain another person s trust over a short period of time. However, it is still a complex topic because it differs from one culture to another. Much Ado About Nothing Structuralism Essay Like Father, Like Daughter: Structuralism Amongst the Women in Shakespeare During the Renaissance, it was common for women to behave in a certain manner in a patriarchal society. These women challenge, deceive, and steal from these men, including one s closest to them in their lives. Surely, one can t believe there are any similarities in this relationship, however, structuralism shows the underlying pattern between Shylock and Jessica. Diane Dreher author of Domination and Defiance: Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare, points out that the two hold a common trait: Greed. Shylock s greed is expressed through his constant talk on commerce and his precious ducats, and Jessica has inherited that ideology. Before running away with Lorenzo, she drops down a basket filled with money and jewels belonging to her father. One would assume it was an act of reprisal, however, Dreher argues it is greed much like her father s. She describes her as bad and disloyal, unfilial, a thief; frivolous, greedy, without any more conscience than a cat, (pg. 102). These two characters know that money holds a powerful position in their lives. Along with this greed, both are very determined characters in terms of fighting for what they want. With Shylock, he is constantly trying to receive justice through the deal he made with Antonio. Despite the strange request, he demands that he receives his pound of flesh from Antonio and stops at nothing to see it through.
