Cognitive Behaviorism And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Chapter VIII.
Cognitive Behaviorism
Cognitive behaviorism has been highly embraced by popular culture and managed care, partly because
it offers quick fixes into behavioral problems and emotional distresses. Often times, students are
confused by the terminologies cognitive and cognitive behaviorism. To add to the confusion, there is
also cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. These terms are sometimes used
interchangeably in literature, but there are slight differences. Cognitive therapy is a specific type of
therapy technique developed by Aaron Beck in the 1960s. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a group of
therapy techniques that share similar theoretical and practical elements in counseling. Some of them
are presented later in this chapter. Both Cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy are
grouped under the field of cognitive psychology or the pragmatic school of thought, also called
cognitive approach. All of which have their roots in behaviorism. Counselors typically prefer the term
cognitive behaviorism because change in cognition impacts change in emotions and behaviors. It is
this key element that therapists strive to reach with their patients. In other words, simply changing the
cognition without changing the behavior or emotions associated with that cognition is futile.
1. Main Assumption: Individual s maladaptive emotions and behaviors are caused by their faulty ways
of thinking (cognitions).
2. Human Nature: Cognitive behaviorists believe

An Energy Source Is A Universal Objective For All Nations...
The search and need for an energy source is a universal objective for all nations on earth. Human
societies have been built on the consumption of natural resources for energy since the beginning of
human existence. The first source of course came from the burning of wood from trees to produce fire
that has kept humans warm and fed throughout the ages. With the evolution of human civilization the
need for more powerful energy sources have arisen. The industrial revolution of the early 20th century
demanded a new source which could keep up with humanities growing technologies. Coal, oil, and
natural gas now account for the vast majority of nation s sources of energy, but these resources have
only finite supply. Nuclear energy became an important next step in humanities source for a
sustainable energy source. In recent years though nuclear energy has started to decline in use primarily
due to the public s disapproval after such devastating nuclear disasters such as Chernobyl, Three Mile
Island and more recently the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan. This decline in nuclear energy is
not the case in China today, in fact they are making huge movements to ramp up their use of nuclear
energy. By looking at the history then taking an in depth look into recent nuclear power in China we
will be able to see why and how China is making such extensive leaps in nuclear energy.
In 1964 China created and tested its first atomic bomb and by 1966 China had launched its first

Teaching Students With Challenging Behaviors
Teaching students with challenging behaviors begins with understanding behaviors utilizing Culturally
Responsive Instructions and strategies. Howard is a sixth grader that has been referred to the office six
times in four month by his first year teacher Ms. Anderson for his insubordinations . Based on Ms.
Anderson observations Howard exhibits specific weakness in mathematics resulting in incomplete in
class work assignments and avoidance behaviors when asked to work at the whiteboard. Howard s
outbursts according to Educators Rick Lavoine students would rather be bad than dumb. Creating
intervention plan will accurately document the function, and communication behind his behaviors.
Howard exhibits behaviors that may be misconstrued as misbehaviors in the classroom at times.
Generating a learning community is a collaborative effort that requires an inclusive background of
experts. Together, teachers, parents/guardians, and other professionals can create a comprehensive
behavior intervention plan to understand Howard better. Creating Culturally responsive learning
environments is created when a multidisciplinary team acknowledges negative images and creates
positive self cultural diffractions. Howard humiliated one of his peers by commenting on the status
and type of car their father drives. SocioEcomocia status plays a role in Culture s impact on teaching
and learning is more than just level of income and educations. Along with social class goes a pervious

How Does Kate Grenville’s Novel, the Secret River,...
How does Kate Grenville s novel, The Secret River, complicate simplistic views of the colonial
situation?
To some extent the past generations have been reared on a patriotic view of past Australian history,
interpreting its history as largely a success. Since history is determined by the perspective of from
which it is written, this version of Australian history, the Three Cheers view, was written from the
perspective of white working class males, who consider Australian pioneers to be the simple, honest
and humble people. Until recently, a rival interpretation, the Black Armband view, has assailed the
generally optimistic view of Australian history by construing the history of Australia as a disgrace.
This second simplistic view ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What s mine is mine and I have never waited for any by your s leave...They were a pair of human ears,

Furthermore, Smasher is also guilty of the dehumanisation of an Aboriginal by creating a scarecrow
out of its body5, kidnapping and raping an Aboriginal woman6 and repeatedly asserting that the
Blacks deserve to die. Smasher 2appears in the novel to be a very hostile and aggressive man who is
not willing to even try to understand the Aboriginal culture, seeing himself as superior and highly
civilised. Because of his strong beliefs that the Aborigines are no more than irritating savages, he
frequently takes matters into his own hands by dealing with them violently and quickly. By making it
evident that Smasher s hatred and conflict towards the Aborigines was not a result of fear or self
defence, but an outcome from pure blind racism and malevolence, Grenville suggests that some of the
European settlers shared cruel, xenophobic personalities, which reinforces the Black Armband view of
Australian history.
In the novel, Grenville also creates another character who to a great extent juxtaposes the vision that
Smasher embodies. Thomas Blackwood, a fellow emancipist settler, out of all the characters in the
novel, is the one who shows utmost appreciation and knowledge of the Aborigines and their culture.

What Is The Meaning Of Goodnight Moon By Margaret Wise Brown
Title When my parents first started to read to me, I was not but a year old. They read to me every
night, Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. Goodnight Moon was my favorite bedtime story,
and I probably could have recited the whole book word for word back then. It was a book made to lull
small kids to sleep with the content of the book. Then, when I grew up a bit, they started reading the
Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne to me. I loved those books because they were
interesting and informational. I finally got to the point where I could read the Magic Tree House books
by myself, so I read one every night before bed. I read any book I could find until I got into the fourth
grade. That was when I read my sister s copy of the

Pulp Fiction Themes
Pulp Fiction (1994) is a mesmerizing, violent and entertaining movie. It has a bizarre cast of
characters, a nonlinear sequence of events and endless references to pop culture. The underlying
theme of the movie, however, deals with religion and the transformation of two characters: Jules
(Samuel L. Jackson) and Butch (Bruce Willis).
In the beginning of the film, Vincent (John Travolta) has returned from a stay in Amsterdam, and the
conversation between Jules and Vincent deals with what Big Macs and Quarter Pounders are called in
Europe. As the movie moves on, other references are the Fonz on Happy Days, Arnold the Pig on
Green Acres, the band Flock of Seagulls, Caine from Kung Fu, TV pilots, and other such ... Show

Jules always quotes this just before he kills someone. The point is that the passage refers to a system
of values and meaning by which one could lead one s life and make moral decisions. However, that
system has no connection with Jules s life and as he realizes later, the passage is actually meaningless
to him.
In addition to the pop references in the film, its dialogue on language is concerned with naming things.
What s a Big Mac called? What s a Quarter Pounder called? What s a Whopper called? When Ringo
(Tim Roth) calls the waitress garçon, she tells him: garçon means boy . When Butch s girlfriend refers
to his means of transportation as a motorcycle, he insists on correcting her: It s not a motorcycle, it s a
chopper. When a Hispanic cab driver, however, asks Butch what his name means, he replies: This is
America, honey; our names don t mean shit. The point is clear that in the absence of any lasting
ambition or value and meaning, our language no longer points to anything beyond itself. To call
something good or evil makes it so since there s no higher authority or criteria by which one might
judge such things. Jules quotes the Bible before his executions, but he might as well be quoting the
Fonz or Buddy Holly.
This absence of any kind of system for making value judgments, this lack of a larger meaning to their
lives, creates a

Blade Runner Versus Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep
Dana Langston
Blade Runner versus Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?...and the stupidity of comparing the two.
So, motherfucking Blade Runner. This piece of fucking cinematic masterpiece was supposedly
inspired by the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?)
written by author Philip K. Dick who was a literal dick I mean he was a piece of shit. Here s the thing
though: I think it s pretty fuckin stupid to compare Blade Runner and Do Androids Dream of Electric
Sheep? because they weren t intended to do the same goddamn thing. Lemme explain. Like many
great films, Blade Runner is based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? written by sci
fi legend Philip K. Dick. The story follows a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the driving force for Rick Deckard in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is the
money he would be making from retiring the Androids. As he sees it, the more money he makes, the
better an animal he can buy, because apparently he s too good for an electric sheep the pompous
fucking ass. In Blade Runner, the driving force is the fact that Deckard has been forced to retire the
Androids by the police department where, as far as the viewer can tell, Deckard use to work but
eventually quit. With a vast change in society and motivation, Blade Runner and Do Androids Dream
of Electric Sheep? are stupid to compare. It is difficult for one to see the relation in the two, other than
a few basic plot points that are the same. One of these plot points is the character Roy Batty, aka the
sadistic fuckhead that gets pleasure from mankind s heartbreaking distraught caused by Buster
Friendly (who ain t that friendly, friend). In the movie, Roy Batty and the other andies are violent
criminals. They murder quite a few people who get in their way, but they never kill out of some sort of
psychopathic detachment. They murder because they are afraid of dying, because they are plagued by
the fear of the unknown. And when Deckard dangles from the roof of Sebastian s apartment, Roy
reaches out and hauls his enemy onto the roof. In short, the Batty of Blade Runner is a flawed hero
who empathized with Deckard in his last

The Importance Of Idiolect
History is the cycle that repeats itself. Most people neglect to add in, how history adds changes to
itself. Words are often repeated;however, they may have a new definition. Words such as idiolect, used
in the 1940s and formally defined in the dictionary as Own or personal dialect . Now, it is formally
defined in the dictionary as the speech habits peculiar to a particular person . Idiolect is most
influenced by relationships and experiences, which help shape one s view on the world and their life.
The N word has always been a racial slur and still is;nevertheless, it still is but it it is used to take
away the power, and negative connotation from those who abused the word. This type of jargon differs
for my grandmother s generation as does, Stay woke , Do it for the culture , and No shade ;however,
they have shaped my view on the world just as my grandmother s has for her. The Black society does
not to deprive anyone of their sleep. Stay woke is the synonym to Don t sleep both meaning to stay
alert and stand up to any racial discrimination/injustice. Some people such as grandmother do not
understand why the younger generation does not just say what they mean. Fulfilling the stereotypical
teenage role, I was on my phone in bed scrolling through news feeds on snapchat and an article by
Essence caught my eye. The article spoke on the many issues of a black woman faces in society and
how you should deal with them. The article mentioned racism and its

Central State University s Theatre Production Performed...
Metropolitan State University s Theatre Production performed, God s Country. This play was written
by Steven Dietz in 1988. It revolved around a white supremacist group called The Order. This group
was led by Robert Jay Matthews and during the presence of The Order, Matthews organized the
members to perform various illegal acts to earn money for the groups cause. The illegal acts led to a
court trial that occurs during the play because The Order, was being prosecuted for the assassination of
radio host, Alan Berg. During MSU Denver s production of God s Country, the elements of the play
that stood out the most were: the success of one particular character, growing to dislike a character,
and the small amount of props that were used.
On opening night of God s Country, produced by Metropolitan s Theatre, one character seemed to be
more successful than any of the other characters and that was the boy. The boy in this production was
portrayed by a girl, but gave an outstanding and very believable performance. At the beginning of the
play there was a scene where all the kids were playing recess games, but the boy was so much more
believable in this scene than any of the other characters. This girl was dressed like a boy, no makeup,
and her movements were so well performed to distinguish her true self from the boy in which she
played. It was so believable that for awhile, you were not quite sure if this actress was either a younger
boy or a student at MSU Denver.

The American Red Cross is an organization that provides disaster relief for communities as well as
supporting military families, health education, and giving blood to people that could potentially save
their life. The American Red Cross was founded by a woman names Clara Barton on March 21st
1881. When the American Red Cross was first established they utilized life boats, donated clothing,
and medical supplies for families who have been devastated by disasters such as floods, disease,
tornados etc. Later after World War II, the American Red Cross then began to collect blood donations
to give to patients who had lost mass amounts of blood and in today s society the American Red Cross

Media Influence On American Women
Over the past several decades, the media and its influence on popular culture has been the single most
destructive force in the lives of American women. The media dictates much of what of our society
aspires to, and sets standards and precedents for a number of topics and behaviors. While, at times, it
can be the source of honest and educational information, media can also have a detrimental effect on a
person s worldview. The advertising industry, in particular, has transformed women from human
beings into sex objects by using their physical appearances as a platform to increase revenue.
Advertisers, in their effort to attract consumers, have abused technology, including photo editing
software, leading to ethical consumer disputes and serious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While porn does play an undeniable role in this negative mentality, companies such as Victoria s
Secret and Hooters can have an equivalent effect. Victoria s Secret s advertisements are not focused on
selling their clothes and Hooters restaurants are not concerned with serving the highest quality food to
their customers. In reality, both companies are selling sex it is about the bodies wearing the lingerie
and the waitresses serving the food. Men are seeing a world in which females are devalued, and they
re learning to take this same worldview into their future relationships (Berg 245). Often, men are not
equipped to deal with women s emotions or personalities when they enter relationships because the
sexualization of women in the media has made them seem like objects, not human beings. Again, men
are taught to value women for nothing other than their youth, beauty, and

Symbols And Symbols In Ancient India
SYMBOLISM OF TREE, LOTUS, SERPENT WATER BODIES IN EARLY INDIAN
ARCHITECTURE Symbolism is the use of symbols or signs to represent symbolic meanings, ideas or

system of symbols and representation. In early Indian architecture, symbols were widely used to

them. So these symbols embody more a religious purpose than an artistic aesthetic purpose. Decoding

One of my favorite locations is this staircase because you do not only get to see a fantastic view of san

Cultured and socially structured, Ancient Egypt was a civilization highly advanced for its time. The
Nile River provided the gift of fresh water allowing the surrounding land to be settled. Its yearly
predictable flooding created fertile soil for farming. This was the perfect environment in which
Egyptian society would prosper. Egypt was equipped with all the amenities of a modern society
including people who married, had children, practiced religion, and even had festivals with food, beer,
music and dancing. All that is known about ancient Egypt is a result of the hieroglyphic carvings of
the Great Pyramid walls and on tombs of dead. Originally from the Book of The Dead, The Chapter

The first stanza contains a total of nineteen lines and is composed of three common literary themes,
change, culture and religion. The chapter is about the speaker changing into Ptah who is the lord of
life, he conceived the elements of the universe with his heart and brought them into being with his
tongue (Rothenberg 524). Activities such as dancing, music and various religious festivals or
gatherings were common sources of entertainment. Especially crucial to the culture and society of
ancient Egypt was beer, also known as the drink of Egypt. All social classes were allowed to consume
beer, man or woman. Bread was also of cultural importance because it was one of the main
components of the ancient diet and often was presented in the hieroglyphics next to beer. In lines one
and two I eat bread / I drink ale.(1 2) , the reader becomes aware of the significance of beer and bread
within this culture. At the end of the first stanza the reader knows that a man is speaking of his
attendance at the festival of a Great God. The theme of power begins to prevail; All that is
abominable, all that is abominable I will not eat. / Shit is abominable, I will not eat it. / All that is
abominable to my Ka (double personality) will not enter my body.(7 9) extreme emphasis on the fact
that nothing inferior will be consumed by him is presented trough anaphora. The combination of

The United Sates is the clear leader among modern, stable democratic nations in its rates of
homicides, assault, rape, and robbery, and it is among the highest in incidents of group violence and
assassinations. This high level of violence is dangerous to our society. It is disfiguring out society
making fortresses of portions of our cities and dividing our people into armed camps. It is jeopardizing
to some of our most precious institutions; among them our schools and universities poisoning the
spirit of trust and cooperation that is essential to their proper functioning.
In the past years until now, violence among children has increased dramatically. Cases have been
reported where grade school students take guns and other weapons to school and use them against
their teachers and classmates. Things of that sort are very much a reality for schools around the
country. Is the reason for these acts of violence that children are becoming more aggressive at younger
ages? Does, the media have to do something with the increase in violence of young children, the fact
that the media has more violence in it than any other point in history? It could be a combination of
things, including work, single parents, peer pressures, etc. The true concern is that the media entertains
children with violent shows, which are aimed at them. Some networks agreed to place advisories

Ethical Rhetorical Persuasion In Today s World
A very prominent topic in the discourse of each unit for this course revolved in the question of
unethical persuasion and how unethical persuasion is used to persuade consumers in less than
auspicious ways. In the mediated world that we currently live in it is important to know and
understand when someone is attempting to persuade you and whether or not that persuasion is moral
or not. In Persuasion in Today s World Charles U. Larson examines persuasion and why it is important
that we train ourselves to become responsible receivers of persuasion. (Larson, pg.5, 2010) Larson
does this by first explaining that the average American is exposed to over 5000 persuasive messages a
day. This paper will talk about some of the most used persuasive methods ... Show more content on

Women s Rights And Abolitionist Movement Essay
The Beginning of Women s Rights Abolitionist Movement
Women s Rights Abolitionists Back in the nineteenth century men and women were not treated
equally as they are now. Women did not have as much freedom as the men did and that caused a
national movement. Not only were the women segregated from the men, but the discrimination against
the African American race was a huge ordeal as well. With both movements combined, it led to a
controversial development at that time. Not only were women fighting for equality, they were also
fighting for the prejudice to end amongst the different races. The beginning of the Women s Rights
Movement and the Abolitionist Movement was not only a historic development, but it changed the
world forever. First, let s talk about what caused the women s rights movement and how it not only
paved the way for the abolitionist movement but, how powerful the campaigns were when combined.
In the nineteenth century, the women s main role was to be a house wife. Women were often stuck at
home doing chores and taking care of the children. They were not allowed to vote, hold a title in
public office, work, own property, or even get an education (Women s Rights. (n.d.), 2016). The
women of the nineteenth century wanted to change those rules so they fought for equality. There were
many women who were brave enough to stand up for their rights and publicly speak about their
thoughts and civil liberties towards equality between men and women. In

She develops from an initiate to a tragic hero. Dian gave up love, family, and so much more to help

eventually led to the conservation of the gorillas but she was not alive to see it. Her work was made

Essay In Defense of Food
ENGWR 301
13 February 2014
In Defense of Pollan When Michael Pollan s book The Omnivore s Dilemma was published, many
readers began questioning him for advice on what they should eat in order to stay healthy. In his more
recent book, In Defense of Food, he responds with three rules, Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants
(Pollan 1). This seven word response seems too simple for a relatively complicated question, but as he
further elaborates these rules into specific guidelines, this summary turns out to be surprisingly
complete. Using inductive and deductive reasoning, he debunks the ideas behind nutritionism and
food science, and proves that the western diet is the cause for food related diseases. Inductive
reasoning is when a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While nutritionism is suppose to scientifically guide us to eat healthy, Pollan points out that there is no
scientific evidence to back it. Instead, he provides research conducted by Harvard nutrition scientist
that proves the opposite. In the public s mind [...] words like low fat and fat free have been
synonymous with heart health. It is now increasingly recognized that low fat campaign has been based
on little scientific evidence and may have caused unintended health consequences. (Pollan 43). In
Based off these observations, Pollan uses inductive reasoning to draw the conclusion that nutritionism
is more harmful then helpful. When Pollan s states to eat food as his first rule, he means exactly that,
eat real food. While this statement seems so obvious that it shouldn t need to be a rule, Pollan explains
how we are trapped by the Western diet and that access to real food over highly processed food
products is harder then it seems. Taking food s place on the shelves has been an unending stream of
foodlike substitutes, some seventeen thousands new ones every year (Pollan 147). For those that don t
know, the Western diet is a term coined to describe our pattern of eating, which is characterized by lots
of processed foods and meat, lots of added fat and sugar, lots of everything except fruits, vegetables,
and whole grains (Pollan 89). Using deductive reasoning,

The Influence Of A-Ha Moments In The Film Fried Green...
Have you ever experienced a moment in your life when everything seems to fit together and make
sense? These moments of insight and realization are known as A ha moments . They can be triggered
by arbitrary events or words and may not even create an impact on your life until a later time. A ha
moments can effect major aspects of life including career, relationships with family and friends, or
even lifestyle. An example of an A ha moment could be understanding a topic in school that did not
make sense until it was explained in a different way. Another example could be as simple as realizing
you will do better on a final exam if you study the material throughout the semester. My A ha moment
came while watching the film Fried Green Tomatoes. There was one line in the film spoken by Evelyn
Couch that stuck with me and gave me insight into my own life. She said, I looked in the mirror and I

Chinese Resistance To Imperialism
Overall resistance to imperialism at the turn of the 20th century was minimally successful mainly
because colonizers were militarily stronger. Imperialism occurs when a strong nation takes over a
weaker nation or region, it will control its economical, political, or cultural ways, using political,
military, social, or economic methods. There are two different methods to imperialism direct of
indirect, as there are different types of ways in imperialism. It can be a colony, protectorate, sphere of
influence and economic control. All of these types have different impacts on both the colonizers and
the colonized.
One example of failed military resistance to imperialism is the case of Zulu in South Africa. At the

notes and participating in lesson through discussion and other activities and assessments. These skills,
which my cooperating teacher is trying to help students develop in his class, are essential for their
survival in a high school environment and also useful in any work scenario when trying to learn a
given amount of information. I was eager to make myself approachable with the students, which I
expressed through my willingness to answer all questions and offer my assistance during any of their
assessments or evaluations in the two months that I was there. They seemed very comfortable with me
by the end of my stay, which made me feel very good about my ability to create a healthy classroom
atmosphere in the future. Finally, I made my lessons as interactive as

Core Competencies For Healthcare Professionals
My Leadership SMART Goal
The Institute of Medicine has defined five core competencies for healthcare professionals. These
competencies are to provide patient centered care, work in inter professional teams, employ evidence
based practice, apply quality improvement, and utilize informatics. (Finkelman, 2012, p. 214). Nurse
leaders recognize that the need to put the patient first is at the heart of patient centered care and is
significant in all aspects of nursing care. Patient centered care incorporates collaboration with the
patient and family and takes into consideration cultural diversity or issues that will affect the patient s
ability to manage and maintain their health. Keeping the lines of communication open with our
patients involves assuring that they are kept abreast of their health management and provided with up
to date education to help them utilize measures to maintain their health. As nurses we are accountable
to our patients and need to stay current with our own education and commit to lifelong learning
(Fights, 2012) to be sure we are passing on up to date and relevant information. Acquiring certification
is an important way of validating our practice and proving our commitment to providing quality
patient centered care. Fights challenges us to ask ourselves if we are committed to lifelong learning or
furthering our education. Signing up at Chamberlain to obtain my BSN was an important step for me
but I will not let this be the end of learning.

  • 2. Cognitive Behaviorism And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Chapter VIII. Cognitive Behaviorism Cognitive behaviorism has been highly embraced by popular culture and managed care, partly because it offers quick fixes into behavioral problems and emotional distresses. Often times, students are confused by the terminologies cognitive and cognitive behaviorism. To add to the confusion, there is also cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. These terms are sometimes used interchangeably in literature, but there are slight differences. Cognitive therapy is a specific type of therapy technique developed by Aaron Beck in the 1960s. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a group of therapy techniques that share similar theoretical and practical elements in counseling. Some of them are presented later in this chapter. Both Cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy are grouped under the field of cognitive psychology or the pragmatic school of thought, also called cognitive approach. All of which have their roots in behaviorism. Counselors typically prefer the term cognitive behaviorism because change in cognition impacts change in emotions and behaviors. It is this key element that therapists strive to reach with their patients. In other words, simply changing the cognition without changing the behavior or emotions associated with that cognition is futile. 1. Main Assumption: Individual s maladaptive emotions and behaviors are caused by their faulty ways of thinking (cognitions). 2. Human Nature: Cognitive behaviorists believe ... • 3. An Energy Source Is A Universal Objective For All Nations... The search and need for an energy source is a universal objective for all nations on earth. Human societies have been built on the consumption of natural resources for energy since the beginning of human existence. The first source of course came from the burning of wood from trees to produce fire that has kept humans warm and fed throughout the ages. With the evolution of human civilization the need for more powerful energy sources have arisen. The industrial revolution of the early 20th century demanded a new source which could keep up with humanities growing technologies. Coal, oil, and natural gas now account for the vast majority of nation s sources of energy, but these resources have only finite supply. Nuclear energy became an important next step in humanities source for a sustainable energy source. In recent years though nuclear energy has started to decline in use primarily due to the public s disapproval after such devastating nuclear disasters such as Chernobyl, Three Mile Island and more recently the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan. This decline in nuclear energy is not the case in China today, in fact they are making huge movements to ramp up their use of nuclear energy. By looking at the history then taking an in depth look into recent nuclear power in China we will be able to see why and how China is making such extensive leaps in nuclear energy. In 1964 China created and tested its first atomic bomb and by 1966 China had launched its first nuclear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Teaching Students With Challenging Behaviors Teaching students with challenging behaviors begins with understanding behaviors utilizing Culturally Responsive Instructions and strategies. Howard is a sixth grader that has been referred to the office six times in four month by his first year teacher Ms. Anderson for his insubordinations . Based on Ms. Anderson observations Howard exhibits specific weakness in mathematics resulting in incomplete in class work assignments and avoidance behaviors when asked to work at the whiteboard. Howard s outbursts according to Educators Rick Lavoine students would rather be bad than dumb. Creating intervention plan will accurately document the function, and communication behind his behaviors. Howard exhibits behaviors that may be misconstrued as misbehaviors in the classroom at times. Generating a learning community is a collaborative effort that requires an inclusive background of experts. Together, teachers, parents/guardians, and other professionals can create a comprehensive behavior intervention plan to understand Howard better. Creating Culturally responsive learning environments is created when a multidisciplinary team acknowledges negative images and creates positive self cultural diffractions. Howard humiliated one of his peers by commenting on the status and type of car their father drives. SocioEcomocia status plays a role in Culture s impact on teaching and learning is more than just level of income and educations. Along with social class goes a pervious set of ... • 6. How Does Kate Grenville’s Novel, the Secret River,... How does Kate Grenville s novel, The Secret River, complicate simplistic views of the colonial situation? To some extent the past generations have been reared on a patriotic view of past Australian history, interpreting its history as largely a success. Since history is determined by the perspective of from which it is written, this version of Australian history, the Three Cheers view, was written from the perspective of white working class males, who consider Australian pioneers to be the simple, honest and humble people. Until recently, a rival interpretation, the Black Armband view, has assailed the generally optimistic view of Australian history by construing the history of Australia as a disgrace. This second simplistic view ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What s mine is mine and I have never waited for any by your s leave...They were a pair of human ears, dark brown, hacked off rough. Furthermore, Smasher is also guilty of the dehumanisation of an Aboriginal by creating a scarecrow out of its body5, kidnapping and raping an Aboriginal woman6 and repeatedly asserting that the Blacks deserve to die. Smasher 2appears in the novel to be a very hostile and aggressive man who is not willing to even try to understand the Aboriginal culture, seeing himself as superior and highly civilised. Because of his strong beliefs that the Aborigines are no more than irritating savages, he frequently takes matters into his own hands by dealing with them violently and quickly. By making it evident that Smasher s hatred and conflict towards the Aborigines was not a result of fear or self defence, but an outcome from pure blind racism and malevolence, Grenville suggests that some of the European settlers shared cruel, xenophobic personalities, which reinforces the Black Armband view of Australian history. In the novel, Grenville also creates another character who to a great extent juxtaposes the vision that Smasher embodies. Thomas Blackwood, a fellow emancipist settler, out of all the characters in the novel, is the one who shows utmost appreciation and knowledge of the Aborigines and their culture. • 7. What Is The Meaning Of Goodnight Moon By Margaret Wise Brown Title When my parents first started to read to me, I was not but a year old. They read to me every night, Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. Goodnight Moon was my favorite bedtime story, and I probably could have recited the whole book word for word back then. It was a book made to lull small kids to sleep with the content of the book. Then, when I grew up a bit, they started reading the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne to me. I loved those books because they were interesting and informational. I finally got to the point where I could read the Magic Tree House books by myself, so I read one every night before bed. • 10. Pulp Fiction Themes Pulp Fiction (1994) is a mesmerizing, violent and entertaining movie. It has a bizarre cast of characters, a nonlinear sequence of events and endless references to pop culture. The underlying theme of the movie, however, deals with religion and the transformation of two characters: Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) and Butch (Bruce Willis). In the beginning of the film, Vincent (John Travolta) has returned from a stay in Amsterdam, and the conversation between Jules and Vincent deals with what Big Macs and Quarter Pounders are called in Europe. As the movie moves on, other references are the Fonz on Happy Days, Arnold the Pig on Green Acres, the band Flock of Seagulls, Caine from Kung Fu, TV pilots, and other such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jules always quotes this just before he kills someone. The point is that the passage refers to a system of values and meaning by which one could lead one s life and make moral decisions. However, that system has no connection with Jules s life and as he realizes later, the passage is actually meaningless to him. In addition to the pop references in the film, its dialogue on language is concerned with naming things. What s a Big Mac called? What s a Quarter Pounder called? What s a Whopper called? When Ringo (Tim Roth) calls the waitress garçon, she tells him: garçon means boy . When Butch s girlfriend refers to his means of transportation as a motorcycle, he insists on correcting her: It s not a motorcycle, it s a chopper. When a Hispanic cab driver, however, asks Butch what his name means, he replies: This is America, honey; our names don t mean shit. The point is clear that in the absence of any lasting ambition or value and meaning, our language no longer points to anything beyond itself. To call something good or evil makes it so since there s no higher authority or criteria by which one might judge such things. Jules quotes the Bible before his executions, but he might as well be quoting the Fonz or Buddy Holly. This absence of any kind of system for making value judgments, this lack of a larger meaning to their lives, creates a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Blade Runner Versus Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep Dana Langston Blade Runner versus Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?...and the stupidity of comparing the two. So, motherfucking Blade Runner. This piece of fucking cinematic masterpiece was supposedly inspired by the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) written by author Philip K. Dick who was a literal dick I mean he was a piece of shit. Here s the thing though: I think it s pretty fuckin stupid to compare Blade Runner and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? because they weren t intended to do the same goddamn thing. Lemme explain. Like many great films, Blade Runner is based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? written by sci fi legend Philip K. Dick. The story follows a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the driving force for Rick Deckard in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is the money he would be making from retiring the Androids. As he sees it, the more money he makes, the better an animal he can buy, because apparently he s too good for an electric sheep the pompous fucking ass. In Blade Runner, the driving force is the fact that Deckard has been forced to retire the Androids by the police department where, as far as the viewer can tell, Deckard use to work but eventually quit. With a vast change in society and motivation, Blade Runner and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? are stupid to compare. It is difficult for one to see the relation in the two, other than a few basic plot points that are the same. One of these plot points is the character Roy Batty, aka the sadistic fuckhead that gets pleasure from mankind s heartbreaking distraught caused by Buster Friendly (who ain t that friendly, friend). In the movie, Roy Batty and the other andies are violent criminals. They murder quite a few people who get in their way, but they never kill out of some sort of psychopathic detachment. They murder because they are afraid of dying, because they are plagued by the fear of the unknown. And when Deckard dangles from the roof of Sebastian s apartment, Roy reaches out and hauls his enemy onto the roof. In short, the Batty of Blade Runner is a flawed hero who empathized with Deckard in his last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Importance Of Idiolect History is the cycle that repeats itself. Most people neglect to add in, how history adds changes to itself. Words are often repeated;however, they may have a new definition. Words such as idiolect, used in the 1940s and formally defined in the dictionary as Own or personal dialect . Now, it is formally defined in the dictionary as the speech habits peculiar to a particular person . Idiolect is most influenced by relationships and experiences, which help shape one s view on the world and their life. The N word has always been a racial slur and still is;nevertheless, it still is but it it is used to take away the power, and negative connotation from those who abused the word. This type of jargon differs for my grandmother s generation as does, Stay woke , Do it for the culture , and No shade ;however, they have shaped my view on the world just as my grandmother s has for her. It revolved around a white supremacist group called The Order. This group was led by Robert Jay Matthews and during the presence of The Order, Matthews organized the members to perform various illegal acts to earn money for the groups cause. The illegal acts led to a court trial that occurs during the play because The Order, was being prosecuted for the assassination of radio host, Alan Berg. During MSU Denver s production of God s Country, the elements of the play that stood out the most were: the success of one particular character, growing to dislike a character, and the small amount of props that were used. On opening night of God s Country, produced by Metropolitan s Theatre, one character seemed to be more successful than any of the other characters and that was the boy. The boy in this production was portrayed by a girl, but gave an outstanding and very believable performance. At the beginning of the play there was a scene where all the kids were playing recess games, but the boy was so much more believable in this scene than any of the other characters. This girl was dressed like a boy, no makeup, and her movements were so well performed to distinguish her true self from the boy in which she played. It was so believable that for awhile, you were not quite sure if this actress was either a younger boy or a student at MSU Denver. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These moments of insight and realization are known as A ha moments . They can be triggered by arbitrary events or words and may not even create an impact on your life until a later time. A ha moments can effect major aspects of life including career, relationships with family and friends, or even lifestyle. An example of an A ha moment could be understanding a topic in school that did not make sense until it was explained in a different way. Another example could be as simple as realizing you will do better on a final exam if you study the material throughout the semester. My A ha moment came while watching the film Fried Green Tomatoes. There was one line in the film spoken by Evelyn Couch that stuck with me and gave me insight into my own life. She said, I looked in the mirror and I didn t like what I saw. Again, the quote from the movie that said, I looked in the mirror and didn t like what I saw motivated me. Essay about Teaching Portfolio Analysis Teaching Portfolio Analysis In this portfolio, I have documented my first experiences not only teaching social studies, but also teaching an eighth grade inclusion class in an urban middle school. Although these lesson plans might not as good as my lesson plans of the future will be, I feel they reflect a great deal of work and dedication that came through creating my first unit for a classroom. With time limitations, I had to base my unit plan on a chapter in the book that was meant to be an introduction to the studying of world history, including the basics of geography, anthropology, archaeology, and history, for these eighth grade students. The fundamentals of my philosophy have stuck, such as teaching responsibility and life skills, being approachable and creative as a teacher, and allowing the learning/teaching process to be interactive and beneficial to all. Throughout my portfolio, I continue to stress the importance of students taking notes and participating in lesson through discussion and other activities and assessments. These skills, which my cooperating teacher is trying to help students develop in his class, are essential for their survival in a high school environment and also useful in any work scenario when trying to learn a given amount of information. I was eager to make myself approachable with the students, which I expressed through my willingness to answer all questions and offer my assistance during any of their assessments or evaluations in the two months that I was there. They seemed very comfortable with me by the end of my stay, which made me feel very good about my ability to create a healthy classroom atmosphere in the future. Finally, I made my lessons as interactive as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These competencies are to provide patient centered care, work in inter professional teams, employ evidence based practice, apply quality improvement, and utilize informatics. (Finkelman, 2012, p. 214). Nurse leaders recognize that the need to put the patient first is at the heart of patient centered care and is significant in all aspects of nursing care. Patient centered care incorporates collaboration with the patient and family and takes into consideration cultural diversity or issues that will affect the patient s ability to manage and maintain their health. Keeping the lines of communication open with our patients involves assuring that they are kept abreast of their health management and provided with up to date education to help them utilize measures to maintain their health. As nurses we are accountable to our patients and need to stay current with our own education and commit to lifelong learning (Fights, 2012) to be sure we are passing on up to date and relevant information. Acquiring certification is an important way of validating our practice and proving our commitment to providing quality patient centered care. Fights challenges us to ask ourselves if we are committed to lifelong learning or furthering our education.
