The Causes Of Fanaticism In The Salem Witch Trials
The most important reason was the ergot, which was a parasitic fungus that poisoned people through
rye bread. This caused caused symptoms that were very similar to the symptoms blamed on
witchcraft, leading adding credibility to this reason. Additionally, this reason is the most logical and
scientifically sound reason out of all of these documents, since it relied on biology. The second most
important reason was probably the fanaticism that caused everyone to blame Satan for the witchcraft,
which stopped people from looking for other reasons which may have caused the witchcraft. This
fanaticism stopped people from looking at other causes of the symptoms, and they didn t bother to use
a scientific or logical perspective because they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a known fact that ergot fungus causes people to hallucinate. This is seen in Document H, which
states, (Ergot) has 10 percent of the activity of LSD, (and) is also found in morning glory seeds, the
ritual hallucinogenic drug used by the Aztecs (Caporael 1). Because of its hallucinogenic properties,
the ergot probably caused many of the supposed apparitions that many people saw, such as Ann
Putnam, Jr, in Document G. Additionally, there was a drought in 1692 which killed the rye that the
ergot fungus grew on, and the Salem Witch hysteria also stopped the next year (Caporael 1). This
means that rye, which the ergot fungus grew on, definitely had a factor in the Salem Witch Trials. The
ergot fungus was also observed to affect more females than males (Caporael 1). This would explain
why there were so many more women became accusers than men, as seen in Document C. This shows
a direct correlation between the ergot fungus and the people who were affected by witchcraft
symptoms, which adds further credibility to how the ergot fungus caused the Salem Witch hysteria in
1692. The fanaticism over Satan causing witchcraft was also another factor that caused the Salem
Witch hysteria in 1692. Because the ergot fungus caused hallucinations and symptoms that people
usually associated with witchcraft, it was probably easier to blame Satan than to look for another
reason that could be more reasonable.

Pt1420 Unit 6 Assignment
Describe what you did.
This week we went a little bit more into the actual process of constructing an inverted index and how
to implement the handling of misspellings, the accuracy of retrievals based on context, and the
structures of resulting indexes for the purpose of searching them. For the discussion assignment, I
needed to cover the differences between BSBI and SPIMI. For our programming assignment, we
needed to make some alterations to a SPIMI python program to create an index and list of documents.
Describe your reactions to what you did.
I found everything that we covered this week very interesting. While I appreciated the differences
between a BSBI and SPIMI, I m a little confused as to why you would use a BSBI except in situations
where there are some very specific hardware ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am feeling pretty good about the class still. A lot of the techniques we are learning about for
efficient, accurate, and helpful searching of a corpus I find very interesting. I need to take some more
time to review the indexer Python code we were supplied so I feel completely comfortable with how it
is achieving the indexing.
Describe what you learned.
Particularly the handling of misspelled search terms or wildcard items was the thing that I feel like I
really took away from this week. Certainly, the index creation techniques were learned but I think that
to really strongly grasp those I just need to get more hands on experience with their implementation.
The things I learned about for managing search terms I feel like I could, at least conceptually,
immediately apply.
What surprised me or caused me to wonder?
I found the technique of the permuterm indexing especially of note. While it seems like it results in a
massive index it was interesting to think of how that could be applied along with other ideas to
mitigate human imperfections for searches.
What happened that felt particularly challenging? Why was it challenging to

The Three Eras Of The Medieval, Renaissance And Baroque...
The three most well known, and arguably most important, musical eras in western civilizations would
be the; medieval, Renaissance and Baroque time periods. With the basics of music with Gregorian
chant and organum from the medieval era to the newfound polyphony texture from the Renaissance
and the equal temperament and major minor tonality of the baroque era; Each time period brings a part
of the foundation that most past, present, and future music is and will be based on. While it may seem
that these three eras or completely different, they do contain several underlying similarities. Beginning
at around 476 AD, the medieval era is mostly related to the church as most music from this era is
sacred. The style of this era, the Gregorian chant is monophonic only comprising of the plainchant (or
the single line melodies of early church music) in texture only comprising of the plainchant (or the
single line melodies of early church music). It is not until the arrival of the French composers Léonin
and Pèrotin in 1100 and 1200 respectively that polyphony would be incorporated into musical worship
with the decoration of Gregorian chant with one or more simultaneous musical lines, thus transitioning
from Gregorian chant to Organum. During this era, most of the music and roles for musicians
belonged to the church except for the troubadours of southern France and the trouvères of northern
France. The music was responsorial between the mass and the father during church and was

Pyramidal Cells (PC)
Pyramidal cells(PC) are the source of excitatory input to the cortex, similarly the granule cell in the
cerebellum, core and matrix thalamocortical cells in the thalamus, and by STN in the basal ganglia.
GABA is responsible for keeping a tab on excitatory activity in the brain and prevent the occurrence
of a seizure (9). The process of surround inhibition occurs at every station(i.e. in the spinal cord,
brainstem, thalamus, somatosensory cortex) for discriminative active touch and is regulated by GABA
interneuron. These interneurons allow only the strongest input to go through resulting in precision and
make it possible for two distinct points stimulated on the skin to be interpreted by adjusting the
effective receptive field size(23).This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inhibitory control is provided by basket cells which are GABA ergic. The GABA release is
activated by incoming glutamate activity (7). Inhibition mediated by basket cells is enhanced when
excitability increases during preparation prior to movement(motor set)(7). Basket cell activity helps
control the output of PC and describing the discharge pattern of these cells. Double bouquet
cells(DBC) are responsible for restricting the activity of minicolumn and preventing a spread of
activity(7). They also inhibit basal and apical dendrites of the CM cell (7,11). Top down influence
mediated by thalamocortical connections and cortico cortical connections result in activation of local
GABA ergic interneurons and glutamatergic neurons, inhibition of the basket cells/chandelier/DBC
results in disinhibition of the CM cells leading to the conversion of No Go to Go (7). The position of
DBC enables its role in controlling the horizontal influence of overlapping PC(7). Recent studies
indicate critical role of inhibitory interneurons located in L1 a)single bouquet cell which inhibits local
interneuron that has an effect on dendrites, soma, axon hillock of L5 pyramidal cell but not the
pyramidal cell itself(disinhibition effect on few PC) and b) Neurogliaform cells inhibition of apical
dendrites of numerous PC(widespread inhibition)(7). The disinhibition circuit is established in the

Gnaeus Pompeius was born in 106 BCE. Gnaeus was born during the time of political tension between

This is perfect for Pompey, because since the beginning, Pompey s role model was the Famous
Alexander the Great. Nowadays, Pompey is known to be the Roman Alexander. Sometimes, Pompey s
young age kept him from leveling up his position. He was too young to be a senator, but authorities
were eager to bend the rules so he could be one. However, he refused in order to exaggerate his rank.
Pompey marries his third wife Mucia in 79 BC. Together, they bore three children: Pompeia
(daughter), Sextus (son), and Gnaeus (son). In 81 BC, Sulla named himself dictator of Rome.
Dictatorship was established during the times of Hannibal, 135 years before. Dictatorship was
intended to last 6 months in intense crisis. However, when Sulla announced himself dictator, there was
no time limit. This is argued to be the beginning of the fall of the Roman Republic; when the strive of
power became more desired over keeping the Republic in tact. Sulla became Dictator of for the
Reconstruction of State . Unlike Marius, Sulla was more interested in the Aristocracy, than the regular
poor people. In 79, Sulla retired from public life and raced against death to finish his memoirs. Sulla

Amelia Earhart Theory
How could someone survive a plane crash? Trying to explain what had happened to the disappearance
of Amelia Earhart, theories were developed. For the purpose of these theories, some people either
believe that Japanese troops kidnapped Earhart, she died as a castaway, or that she lived under another
identity. In the end, Amelia Earhart did survive her attempted voyage around the world. Earhart s
mysterious disappearance leads to different theories. One of those theories is that the Japanese
kidnapped Amelia Earhart and her navigator Noonan, holding them captive. Earhart and Noonan were
making a stop on Howland island, but before they arrived, they lost connection with the U.S. Coast
Guard. Years later, the government discovered a photograph in the U.S. National Archives, displaying
what is supposed Earhart and Noonan near Japanese troops. Along with the two missing people in the
photograph, parts of plane were behind them. An American spy took the picture. An article in:
Kent Gibson, a facial recognition expert, who studied the photo, said in the History Channel special
that it s very convincing evidence that the photo is of Noonan. The hairline is the most distinctive
characteristic, Gibson said. It s a very sharp receding hairline. The nose is very prominent.
A facial recognition expert claimed that the U.S. spies photograph could possibly be Noonan and
Earhart. Although it is very possible for the kidnapping of Earhart and Noonan, the picture with the

Analysis Of Bach s Orgel Buchlein
J.S. Bach was born into a stylistic period called the Baroque period. This period
was one of decorative, lavish extravagance in relation to art, architecture and
music. Similar to architecture at this time, Bach s music was extremely ornate
with heavy embellishments and was somewhat characterised by its ornamentation
yet still had a strict organisation of insistent rhythms. Thus, music of the
Baroque period is somewhat paradoxical in that, while it is extravagantly ornate
and emotionally expressive, it still manages to be rigorously controlled and
systematic. This may be seen particularly in Bach s Orgel Buchlein, more
commonly known as The Little Organ Book, which contains 46 chorale
preludes for organ which has been argued to be a key to understanding his
music as a whole. Each of these chorales within the Orgel Buchlein takes an
original Lutheran chorale and develops it by adding a motivic development.
Further, throughout Bach s Orgel Buchlein, he explores diverse range of
expressive techniques, techniques that had not yet been discovered by any of his
contempories as he combines a rhetorical and expressive musical language with
refined counterpoint. Bach had been determined to combine strict polyphony
with free composition whilst also using contrapuntal elements to articulate the
emotion behind the words being sung. This development marked the beginning
of Bach s individuality, personifying every note of each

Distinguished American author and intellectual Kurt Vonnegut stated the following about glorification

Essay On David Copperfield
Capturing the differences of the classes can be difficult on film, but there were a multitude of visual
and audial differences. First off, there was a clear difference in how the people from the different
classes spoke. In David Copperfield (99 ) you can take Dan Peggotty and Edward Murdstone as two
very clear examples of how the members of the different classes spoke. Some may find it hard to
differentiate their
Another huge difference between the upper, and lower, class was that the children of the lower class
families had to work. Naturally, poor families could not afford clothes, food and all the other
necessities their children needed. Therefore, many children had to work in factories to support their
family. In David Copperfield (99 ), David had to work for a while in a factory during his stay at the
Micawber families, as Mr. Micawber was jailed due to him not paying rent. From what we could see,
David s experience in the factory was a horrible one, where the air was terrible and work conditions
incredibly dangerous for children. Why this was so common can be a natural result of where society
does not support the working class, resulting in an endless spiral of misfortune. A child is born into a
poor family. This child then has to work in a factory to support his family. These events resulting ...

Alternative Energies Essays
Do you have to pay to put fuel in a vehicle? I know I do and it s becoming more of a large burden
rather than just another small expense of living. It s safe to say that the majority of people owning
motor vehicles dislike the constant fluctuation in the price of oil and gasoline. The four worst polluters
when it comes to the burning of fossil fuels are the United States, China, Japan, and Britain (Editorial
par. 3). At the rate at which it is rising now, vehicles are soon going to be a luxury because people will
not be able to afford the price of fuel. One possible solution to this problem, and many other instances
that rely on the burning of fossil fuels, is the use of renewable energy sources. Two of the more

something new that has been recently discovered. Solar power has been utilized in many different
ways dating back to the ancient Egyptians. Surprising as it is, we utilize the power today in similar
ways to what the Egyptians used it for. Common uses of solar energy are drying objects such as
clothing and other necessities and growing crops (Solar Energy par. 6). The broad use of solar energy
continues to arise in many different and unique ways. A scientist by the name of Joseph Priestly used

A Short Note On Melanoma And Prostate Cancer
Allenmar Sicsic
Fall 2014 Carcinoma of the prostate, commonly known as prostate cancer, is a diagnosis of a
malignant tumor (adenocarcinoma) of the prostate gland (Chabner). The prostate is a significant
muscular organ that belongs to the male reproductive system. Approximately the size of a walnut, the
prostate is located at the base of the bladder and in front of the rectum (Prostate Gland). In conjunction
to the seminal vesicles and the Cowper s glands, the prostate secretes fluids that contain sperm which
is transported into the female reproductive tract for fertilization (Prostate Gland). The vas deferens is a
tube that carries sperm from the testes and secretions from the seminal vesicles to the prostate. After

Unfortunately, prostate cancer symptoms may be asymptomatic during the beginning stages.
Therefore, all males over the age of 50 should have routine physical examinations because it is only
through some or all of the following tests that prostate cancer can be detected early. The first test I will
be discussing is called the Digital Rectal Examination (DRE), which entails the doctor placing a
gloved and lubricated finger into the rectum in order to feel for any lumps in the prostate (Cherath).
Most prostate tumors start in the posterior area of the prostate, hence why the rectum is examined due
to its location being behind the prostate gland. This type of pre screening is less efficient than a PSA
test, however, it can help men who have normal PSA levels and still have tumors. If the doctor feels
there is a need for further testing after a DRE then he/she may request other tests to confirm the
findings. Furthermore, the most common and routine blood test that helps detect prostate cancer is the
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test. This blood test is used to measure the amounts of PSA
circulating in the blood (Cherath). PSA is a protein made by the cells lining the prostate gland, and
normal levels of this are 4.0 ng/mL and lower.

A Brave New World Cloning Analysis
The idea of cloning has been around for decades, and some scientist have even utilized this process. In
the story Brave New World by Aldous Huxley the author presents the process of cloning by using
hatcheries instead of natural reproduction, which no longer exists, to create individuals. Individuals in
society are given different doses of lethal drugs to alter development so that they meet the standards
based on their pre determined social classes. The concept of cloning is used to propagate another
organism or cell to create an exact copy of its original without the use of natural reproduction. This
process has been very successful with the cloning of animals, cells, and even a recent human
experiment. In the case of cloning, the power of

Fukushima Chernobyl Disaster
The most recent major incident with nuclear power took place in Fukushima. Some people believe
that the explosion of nuclear reactor the tragedy is similar to the detonation of a thermal nuclear
device and this is a common misunderstanding: nuclear reactor cannot possibly explode in the way
atomic bomb does because the reactors utilize only slow neutrons. After the Chernobyl disaster, with
improvements in emergency procedures and plant designs, the fission process can now be effectively
moderated. When the Fukushima reactors were hit by the tsunami, the fission reaction was shut off
successfully. However, the real problem is that even if the fission process has been shut off, the core

Car Mount Advantages And Disadvantages
Car Mounts Car mounts are specifically designed to have your mobile device in a place where it can
be seen so that firstly it can be used as a mapping device and secondly because of the stringent hands
free laws that you can see who is calling and at the same time be able to talk to the person who has
called. Once it has been mounted you are also able to touch the screen which allows you to carry out
basic commands while you are driving. The smartphone technology is trending to voice commands
and having it mounted in front of you will make it a lot easier when you are driving. Features Most
people will buy a universal cell phone car mount because that way the whole family can use the
device and you will not be restricted to use one phone a consideration if you decide to upgrade. You
need to consider the type of mounting mechanism the car mount uses as they vary. The car mount will
either be a suction type for the windshield or dashboard or will clip onto the front ventilator so it is up
to you where you would like to position your mobile device Even though the car mount is universal

For through observation and exploration of those lands and coasts, both by land and sea, it must be
recognized that these settlements must be the rampart, fortress, and the defense of all this New Spain.
(pg. 1). The author Jesus F. de la Teja takes a objective look of settlement of San Antonio and its
surroundings. His book covers over the course of a period of the 18th Century. His writings describe
the life of the settlers, economics, living conditions, and their use of the land. He does a superior job
of characterizing the early Texas Colonial settlers daily life. The author uses distinct unbiased

San Antonio. With the many diverse groups and families settling San Antonio, Teja covers the
diversity the area goes through. Teja could have placed more emphasis in painting a picture that San
Antonio was the focal point in the Northern Boundary lands. I highly endorse this book for a person
looking to study the growth of San Antonio in the 18th Century. Community in San Antonio de Bexar

(Chipman) Teja provides a precise overview of the early settlers norms, beliefs, and attitudes in
occupying San Antonio in an nonpartisan manner. Permanently settled in 1718, San Antonio began as
a military and missionary outpost on the northern frontier of New Spain. (Chipman) Teja also captures
how the older settlers viewed their relationship with the arrogant Islenos. Chipman further reflects on

As not all local authorities were keen to provide social housing, they found ways to sell their housing
stock. There was at that time legislation in place to enable this, but as the houses had been built with
government funds, these sales had to receive approval from the ministry of health. These approvals
were not forthcoming and, property prices were too high for many to afford. The onset of WW1
impacted on sales during 1914 1938 due to restrictions and after WW11 the acting Labour
Government formerly opposed such sales. The Housing Act in 1952 revoked the Housing Act 1936
restricting requirement to obtain the best sale price for these properties and between 1952 1979 the
acting government granted various consents, in 1967, to prevent under pricing, market value sale price
was introduced and remains so to this day. 2.2 The Right to Buy 1980 Contrary to popular belief Right
to Buy existed under the Conservative party before Margaret Thatcher was elected as party leader or
indeed Prime Minister. Over 370,000 properties were sold between 1952 and 1980, this was largely
down to the generous discounts offered and would have increased regardless of the introduction of the
Right to Buy legislation in1980. It is important to note that local authorities were restricted on using
monies generated by Right to Buy for rebuilding as these funds were reverted back to the treasury and

female, high school students dressed in uniform walk a barren landscape. The only colour and
movement comes from the trucks that roar through. Isolated, Aboriginal community. * Walk past an
indigenous man carrying a jerry can of petrol. Stereotypical image of addiction. Lena in a thick
Australian accent: Whadda dickhead. Clear from this dialogue that her values are very different from

cockatoo on the road side. White is indicative of innocence and purity. Another thing destroyed. * Car
is pulled over by police. Officer refers to the driver as boy a derogatory term, belittling, demeaning.
An allusion to the African slave term and reflection of inherent racism. The generic title removes the
individuality of the driver. An assertion of power. * Police car seen leaving in rear view mirror

* Lena sits in the back seat, next to another young, fair skinned Aboriginal woman. She has a toddler
on her lap. Again, that theme of pregnancy is raised and in response to the child s cries, the driver
turns and slaps her across the face. This scene seems to highlight the negative aspects of Aboriginal
culture that is, the subordination of women and prevalence of domestic violence. * L: Stop the fucking

The Relationship Between Machiavelli And Machiavelli s...
The topic of proper governing has been well discussed throughout history by several
unique voices. While some philosophers have similar opinions on what it takes to be an effective
leader, such as intelligence and worldliness, there are many that disagree on traits they find beneficial.
The reasons for these disagreements are vast but one of the crucial factors are the societies and
historical eras these authors were nurtured within. Through their own experiences with government
and turmoil, philosophers are able to give their critiques on government and human nature as a whole.
Socrates and Machiavelli, both philosophers in what it means to be a proper leader and the role of the
people within a society, share contrasting views. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through his writings in The Prince, we are able to create the image of an ideal Machiavellian prince
and principle. This image of the ideal principle can then be applied to Socrates and his views on how
the govern should function in The Apology. Machiavelli and Socrates do have similar philosophies but
there are also areas where they are likely to disagree. While Socrates would approve of some aspects
of the ideal prince and the political system he would lead, he would overall not approve of a
Machiavellian principle as it encourages aggressive behavior that contradicts what he considers to be
just.
There is an aspect that both Socrates and Machiavelli both speak about in detail within their works
that provide a positive connection between them. Machiavelli writes about the mindset of the people
in his criticism of the role of religion in the government. In The Prince, Machiavelli does mention
principles that have the church as a core part of the prince s legitimacy, which he refers to as
Ecclesiastical Principles (The Prince, CH. XI). Machiavelli does confess the the people within the
principles are happier, but this is not what he values. He believes that an ideal prince should not
encourage religious practices, especially in relation to his role as the ruler. To Machiavelli, he believes
that the prince should put loyalty to the state over that of a higher power. He writes which men are
esteemed, being often forced, in order to maintain the state, to act

The Pros And Cons Of Open Border Policy
Modern day America has put strict boundaries on immigration, but during the 18th and 19th centuries,
an open immigration policy was encouraged and accepted. The concept of America as the land of
dreamers and new beginnings is now lost due to recent border policies. An open border policy should
be implemented in America as it upholds the Constitution, benefits the domestic and international
economy, and maintains ethical standards for preserving human life.
Border restrictions and confinements on migration put the very principles of the constitution at stake.
Many proponents of closed borders utilize the Constitution s Foreign Commerce Clause , located in
Article 1, to support their argument that Congress has been granted power over migration. According
to Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University, the clause supposedly gives Congress
control over migration and border policies. Despite this supposition, the Foreign Commerce Clause is
merely the realization of its name: it only grants Congress power over commerce between foreign
entities. The term commerce implies economic transactions and consequently the movement of
commodities, in this case, international movement of commodities. While manual labor can be
considered a commodity, immigration itself is not only the movement of manual labor. Immigration is
the motion of hope and humanity, a movement in pursuit of the American dream. This may be
represented in manual labor, but immigration is not only that, it

Desire In Thou Blind Man s Mark By Sir Philip Sidney
In Sir Philip Sidney s sonnet, Thou Blind Man s Mark, the speaker describes his personal experience
with the vice of desire. Buy expressing the abstract and hazardous nature of desire it becomes evident
that the speaker acknowledges both his disdain for the subject and his struggle to overcome it. The
initial quatrain builds the idea of the blind man s mark, known as desire, with the speaker presenting
progressively derogatory comments about it. By addressing desire as the blind man s mark the speaker
implies that those who succumb to it are unaware of themselves doing so, since blindness represents a
lack of perception. Adding to this notion, the speaker continues to call desire fond fancy s scum, and
dregs of scattered thought to engrain the fleeting an trite nature the subject possesses. This list of
insults climaxes in the final line of the quatrain, where the speaker states that the ultimate danger of
the convoluted web of will is its perpetuity, since its end is never wrought; because it spirals on
without an individuals critically analyzing their actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Underground War in Gaza by Joe Sacco
In our American society, newspapers are very important they provide a lot of solid information of
what is happening in national and international level. Newspapers are usually written to expose
conflicts, peace, knowledge, lost, and other cultural media. These articles can be written in different
forms such as of multiple paragraph, photos, and comics; such as the one that the New York Times
newspaper releases from their journalist, Joe Sacco the author of the comic book The Underground
War in Gaza on July 6, 2003. In his comic he exposes the conflicts between Israel and Palestine. Sacco

Throughout Sacco s comic he chooses to draw himself as part of the comic, in doing so he shows how
his charter is the only one that has an actual communication with the upper level of the Israeli army,
demonstrating that Palestinians have no way of communication with the opposing side.
In addition to Sacco strategies, the first perspective Sacco shows in his comic book is protection. Even
when protection happens in both sides of conflict, Palestine is illustrated as a more protective
community, since the invaders are located within their territories. He shows how protection is within
the Palestinian and Israeli families and pride. Sacco adds that families began to leave their houses, in
page 24, he presents, his family was chased out by constant Israeli gunfire, in this quote Sacco draws
himself also in the frame next to Mr. T. a man who is looking after his family s security. This man has
to make a life decision of leaving their secure home, to find an actual secure place for his family.
Sacco points out those guns are in the hands of Israeli army, but also in Palestinians hands. He chooses
to not make the clear connection but the constant firing happens when there are two different parties
attacking. This attack is seen as a protection for both countries lives. In the other hand Israelis are
protecting their families that live in the other side of the borders; they don t want their families to live
through what is happening in Palestine for this same reason

Comparing Satire In Candide And Gulliver
Fundamentally, the main two characters in these books Voltaire s Candide and Swift s Gulliver s
Travels (Candide and Gulliver) respectively have been used as units or vehicles for satire throughout
the works. It is therefore of paramount importance to note that, Gulliver and Candide serve as ironies
in these books. The books uses simple language but is characterized by irony as shown by the actions,
practices, and behaviors of the characters. Also of importance to note is that, although the author
exposes the two main characters to positions that do not best fit them in terms of their actions, the
reader must be made to understand that the characters remain oblivious and naïve to their
circumstances. According to the nature of the two literature works, I think the reader must be made to
understand that, the two books are used to criticize human weakness by using some names such as
Yahoos and Horse to describe human and the society. In the Voltaire s Candide, the main character is
exposed to all sorts of ridiculous circumstances which excellently work to paint a clear picture of the
intentions of the author who suffered a lot in his life as he was forced to exile in England, and

Esperanza s negative view of herself slowly changes as she begins to focus on her larger community

growing because of the people she s around. Everybody that s around her are either much younger or
much older. This is shown by Esperanza using phrases like this kid in the vignette Our Good Day to
describe people around her (Cisneros 14). Having nothing but kids around someone is only going to
stop them from growing. Having someone that is ones age can help see what pace that person needs to
be at in order to keep up. This however, is not the case with Esperanza. The only people who she is

Space Exploration Is A Waste Of Money
Have you ever wondered about the possibilities of finding a planet like Earth which can sustain life?
Through the continuation of space exploration, we can continue to look for earth like planets and learn
much more about the mysteries of the universe. Space programs and exploration have helped mankind
to develop useful knowledge in different fields such as digital technology and medicine. According to
Mindy Townsend, a writer for the social networking website Care2, we have to give credit to NASA
for the development of the cell phone camera, which was developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory
(JPL), one of NASA s research centers. (par. 2). Likewise, Townsend also gives credit to NASA for
the technology used in the development of CAT scanners, microscopy, and radiography (par. 6).
However, many people still argue that space exploration is a waste of money because they claim that
money can be spent on other priorities such as education and health care. Even though space
exploration is expensive, the United States government should continue funding space exploration to
promote innovation in technology, find extraterrestrial natural resources in the near future, and protect
planet earth from outer space threats like space debris and excessive solar radiation.
Through innovation in technology, the space exploration programs of the United States have achieved
several benefits for today s society. Many studies have shown that space programs have encouraged

As suggested by the article to keep reserve stocks for up to 90 days of supply. For example, in Baji a
major oil refinery was set on fire by ISIS forces who were controlling this refinery in the past. This oil
refinery was one o the major oil production companies in the country. In such cases small safety
stocks will finish in a few days, so only keeping reserve stocks may not be the solution . World s 60
percent oil reserves are in middle east where these types of incidents occur (Critchlow,

In case of natural disaster or a major disruptions various strategies can be used to prevent loses. As the

and was used by many companies in the past. For instance, In March,2000 after a major electronic

waiting for the product Nokia changed the product design and sourced different component from other

Mockibngbird the characters Mrs Dubose, Tom Robinson and Atticus Finch all demonstrate what true
courage really is. The first character I will discuss is Mrs Dubose. Mrs Dubose is a very old woman
battling an illness and a morphine addiction. Secondly, I will discuss Tom Robinson. Tom is a black
man who is (falsely) accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. Finally I will explain why Atticus Finch is
courageous. Atticus is the father of the novel s narrator Scout or Jean Louise Finch. All three
characters demonstrate great bravery throughout the novel, each have their hardships and each try to
push through the adversity to their best ability.

As a reader, I found Atticus to be the most courageous character in the novel. The reasons behind this
statement are that Atticus defends a black man in court, he stands up to the lynch mob in front of the
jailhouse and because he can fight without words. First, Atticus is very valorous for taking the Tom
Robinson case. For a white man to be acquainted with a black man who was not his slave was rather
sporadic. Even after all of the physical and verbal abuse Atticus took he kept his word and defended
Tom for all he was worth. I can t stay here all day and this summer is going to be a hot one. (Atticus,
Page 128) As a reader, this was the greatest act of courage executed in the novel. For Atticus to risk
his respect, family and life to protect a black man took great bravery and sacrifice. Secondly, Atticus
protected Tom from he lynch mob at the jailhouse. As the men poured out of the car towards Atticus,
he was undaunted buy the moving shadows approaching him. In ones and twos, men got out of the
cars. Shadows became substance as lights revealed solid shapes moving toward the jail door. Atticus
remained where he was. (Scout, Page 152 153) Atticus fearlessly confronted the mass of angry men
and reasoned with them until there is an interruption courtesy of Scout. This event proves that Atticus
is very brave because he came up against a whole mob and did not back down. Finally, Atticus is

Civil Disobedience And The Apartheid
Throughout history, civil disobedience has been used to bring about change across a wide variety of
civil rights issues. In India, Mahatma Gandhi used civil disobedience to nonviolently protest against
the British Raj and, after a thirty year struggle, earn independence both for himself and his people. In
the United States, Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. employed civil disobedience to overcome both the
Jim Crow laws that had oppressed the African American minority and the systemic racism that was
once prevalent in the Southern United States. In South Africa, Nelson Mandela utilized civil
disobedience to lead an anti apartheid revolution to combat the apartheid system that systemically
discriminated against the black inhabitants of South Africa. All three of these exemplary men have
earned a Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts (the prize was not awarded in 1948 because there was no
suitable living candidate , a tribute to Gandhi who was recently assassinated). Although violence could
have been used to combat these civil rights violations, all three of these individuals chose not to resort
to violence, in favor of a more amicable alternative: civil disobedience. Furthermore, all three of these
cases help to demonstrate that in democratic societies, civil disobedience is both a necessary and
effective tool that brings about deliberated change in both governmental and/or social systems without
inciting violence. Civil disobedience is effective as a tool to bring about social

The prescription filling process of the health maintenance organization (HMO) consists of the doctor
sending the prescription to the pharmacy via paper with the patient, paper to the nurse who calls in the
prescription with instructions, or faxing the prescription to the pharmacy. From there, the personnel at
the pharmacy fill the prescription by inputting the information given to them into their computer in
order to print the instructions and medication labels for the prescriptions. They then pull the requested
medications per the instructions, fill the necessary containers to give to the patients, and label ... Show

Handwriting has always been, and will remain, a problem in medicine. A 1979 study showed that it
was difficult to interpret about half of all physicians handwritten orders. Little has changed since then,
(In the long run, penmanship classes for doctors won t do much for patient safety, 2001). This has
been an ongoing problem since inception. Therefore, the beginning of the process should be changed
in this day and age of technology to have prescriptions entered into computers and handheld devices
by the doctor, to ensure accuracy of the medication that is needed to be filled, and electronically sent
to the pharmacy. Having a nurse call in prescriptions is a non value added activity that can be
eliminated. This may be expensive at the start to implement, but in the long term, it will save both
organizations time, help reduce errors, and add value to the level of service the organization gives.
With this change, label errors should also be reduced as well, ensuring the patient receives the correct
medicine and dosage.
After implementing the technological advancements, the pharmacy will be required to keep a log of
all medications brought back or called saying that they are the wrong medicine. These logs will be
collected monthly to measure the amount of prescriptions filled wrong to determine if the changes are
working.

  • 2. The Causes Of Fanaticism In The Salem Witch Trials The most important reason was the ergot, which was a parasitic fungus that poisoned people through rye bread. This caused caused symptoms that were very similar to the symptoms blamed on witchcraft, leading adding credibility to this reason. Additionally, this reason is the most logical and scientifically sound reason out of all of these documents, since it relied on biology. The second most important reason was probably the fanaticism that caused everyone to blame Satan for the witchcraft, which stopped people from looking for other reasons which may have caused the witchcraft. This fanaticism stopped people from looking at other causes of the symptoms, and they didn t bother to use a scientific or logical perspective because they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a known fact that ergot fungus causes people to hallucinate. This is seen in Document H, which states, (Ergot) has 10 percent of the activity of LSD, (and) is also found in morning glory seeds, the ritual hallucinogenic drug used by the Aztecs (Caporael 1). Because of its hallucinogenic properties, the ergot probably caused many of the supposed apparitions that many people saw, such as Ann Putnam, Jr, in Document G. Additionally, there was a drought in 1692 which killed the rye that the ergot fungus grew on, and the Salem Witch hysteria also stopped the next year (Caporael 1). This means that rye, which the ergot fungus grew on, definitely had a factor in the Salem Witch Trials. The ergot fungus was also observed to affect more females than males (Caporael 1). This would explain why there were so many more women became accusers than men, as seen in Document C. This shows a direct correlation between the ergot fungus and the people who were affected by witchcraft symptoms, which adds further credibility to how the ergot fungus caused the Salem Witch hysteria in 1692. The fanaticism over Satan causing witchcraft was also another factor that caused the Salem Witch hysteria in 1692. Because the ergot fungus caused hallucinations and symptoms that people usually associated with witchcraft, it was probably easier to blame Satan than to look for another reason that could be more reasonable. ... • 3. Pt1420 Unit 6 Assignment Describe what you did. This week we went a little bit more into the actual process of constructing an inverted index and how to implement the handling of misspellings, the accuracy of retrievals based on context, and the structures of resulting indexes for the purpose of searching them. For the discussion assignment, I needed to cover the differences between BSBI and SPIMI. For our programming assignment, we needed to make some alterations to a SPIMI python program to create an index and list of documents. Describe your reactions to what you did. I found everything that we covered this week very interesting. While I appreciated the differences between a BSBI and SPIMI, I m a little confused as to why you would use a BSBI except in situations where there are some very specific hardware ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am feeling pretty good about the class still. A lot of the techniques we are learning about for efficient, accurate, and helpful searching of a corpus I find very interesting. I need to take some more time to review the indexer Python code we were supplied so I feel completely comfortable with how it is achieving the indexing. Describe what you learned. Particularly the handling of misspelled search terms or wildcard items was the thing that I feel like I really took away from this week. Certainly, the index creation techniques were learned but I think that to really strongly grasp those I just need to get more hands on experience with their implementation. The things I learned about for managing search terms I feel like I could, at least conceptually, immediately apply. What surprised me or caused me to wonder? I found the technique of the permuterm indexing especially of note. While it seems like it results in a massive index it was interesting to think of how that could be applied along with other ideas to mitigate human imperfections for searches. What happened that felt particularly challenging? Why was it challenging to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Three Eras Of The Medieval, Renaissance And Baroque... The three most well known, and arguably most important, musical eras in western civilizations would be the; medieval, Renaissance and Baroque time periods. With the basics of music with Gregorian chant and organum from the medieval era to the newfound polyphony texture from the Renaissance and the equal temperament and major minor tonality of the baroque era; Each time period brings a part of the foundation that most past, present, and future music is and will be based on. While it may seem that these three eras or completely different, they do contain several underlying similarities. Beginning at around 476 AD, the medieval era is mostly related to the church as most music from this era is sacred. The style of this era, the Gregorian chant is monophonic only comprising of the plainchant (or the single line melodies of early church music) in texture only comprising of the plainchant (or the single line melodies of early church music). It is not until the arrival of the French composers Léonin and Pèrotin in 1100 and 1200 respectively that polyphony would be incorporated into musical worship with the decoration of Gregorian chant with one or more simultaneous musical lines, thus transitioning from Gregorian chant to Organum. During this era, most of the music and roles for musicians belonged to the church except for the troubadours of southern France and the trouvères of northern France. For the purpose of these theories, some people either believe that Japanese troops kidnapped Earhart, she died as a castaway, or that she lived under another identity. In the end, Amelia Earhart did survive her attempted voyage around the world. Earhart s mysterious disappearance leads to different theories. One of those theories is that the Japanese kidnapped Amelia Earhart and her navigator Noonan, holding them captive. Earhart and Noonan were making a stop on Howland island, but before they arrived, they lost connection with the U.S. Coast Guard. Years later, the government discovered a photograph in the U.S. National Archives, displaying what is supposed Earhart and Noonan near Japanese troops. Along with the two missing people in the photograph, parts of plane were behind them. An American spy took the picture. An article in: Kent Gibson, a facial recognition expert, who studied the photo, said in the History Channel special that it s very convincing evidence that the photo is of Noonan. The hairline is the most distinctive characteristic, Gibson said. It s a very sharp receding hairline. The nose is very prominent. • 8. Analysis Of Bach s Orgel Buchlein J.S. Bach was born into a stylistic period called the Baroque period. This period was one of decorative, lavish extravagance in relation to art, architecture and music. Similar to architecture at this time, Bach s music was extremely ornate with heavy embellishments and was somewhat characterised by its ornamentation yet still had a strict organisation of insistent rhythms. Thus, music of the Baroque period is somewhat paradoxical in that, while it is extravagantly ornate and emotionally expressive, it still manages to be rigorously controlled and systematic. This may be seen particularly in Bach s Orgel Buchlein, more commonly known as The Little Organ Book, which contains 46 chorale preludes for organ which has been argued to be a key to understanding his music as a whole. Each of these chorales within the Orgel Buchlein takes an original Lutheran chorale and develops it by adding a motivic development. Further, throughout Bach s Orgel Buchlein, he explores diverse range of expressive techniques, techniques that had not yet been discovered by any of his contempories as he combines a rhetorical and expressive musical language with refined counterpoint. Bach had been determined to combine strict polyphony with free composition whilst also using contrapuntal elements to articulate the emotion behind the words being sung. Ptsd In Slaughterhouse Five Distinguished American author and intellectual Kurt Vonnegut stated the following about glorification of war: Perhaps, when we remember wars, we should take off our clothes and paint ourselves blue and go on all fours all day long and grunt like pigs. That would surely be more appropriate than noble oratory and shows of flags and well oiled guns. (Cat s 147) World War II is one of the most significant memories of the twentieth century. It has impacted the collective consciousness of all Americans, but none more than the soldiers, just out of childhood, who fought and died in it. • 13. Essay On David Copperfield Capturing the differences of the classes can be difficult on film, but there were a multitude of visual and audial differences. First off, there was a clear difference in how the people from the different classes spoke. In David Copperfield (99 ) you can take Dan Peggotty and Edward Murdstone as two very clear examples of how the members of the different classes spoke. Some may find it hard to differentiate their Another huge difference between the upper, and lower, class was that the children of the lower class families had to work. Naturally, poor families could not afford clothes, food and all the other necessities their children needed. Therefore, many children had to work in factories to support their family. In David Copperfield (99 ), David had to work for a while in a factory during his stay at the Micawber families, as Mr. Micawber was jailed due to him not paying rent. From what we could see, David s experience in the factory was a horrible one, where the air was terrible and work conditions incredibly dangerous for children. Why this was so common can be a natural result of where society does not support the working class, resulting in an endless spiral of misfortune. A child is born into a poor family. Therefore, all males over the age of 50 should have routine physical examinations because it is only through some or all of the following tests that prostate cancer can be detected early. The first test I will be discussing is called the Digital Rectal Examination (DRE), which entails the doctor placing a gloved and lubricated finger into the rectum in order to feel for any lumps in the prostate (Cherath). Most prostate tumors start in the posterior area of the prostate, hence why the rectum is examined due to its location being behind the prostate gland. This type of pre screening is less efficient than a PSA test, however, it can help men who have normal PSA levels and still have tumors. If the doctor feels there is a need for further testing after a DRE then he/she may request other tests to confirm the findings. Furthermore, the most common and routine blood test that helps detect prostate cancer is the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test. This blood test is used to measure the amounts of PSA circulating in the blood (Cherath). PSA is a protein made by the cells lining the prostate gland, and normal levels of this are 4.0 ng/mL and lower. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While Socrates would approve of some aspects of the ideal prince and the political system he would lead, he would overall not approve of a Machiavellian principle as it encourages aggressive behavior that contradicts what he considers to be just. • 29. The Pros And Cons Of Open Border Policy Modern day America has put strict boundaries on immigration, but during the 18th and 19th centuries, an open immigration policy was encouraged and accepted. The concept of America as the land of dreamers and new beginnings is now lost due to recent border policies. An open border policy should be implemented in America as it upholds the Constitution, benefits the domestic and international economy, and maintains ethical standards for preserving human life. Border restrictions and confinements on migration put the very principles of the constitution at stake. Many proponents of closed borders utilize the Constitution s Foreign Commerce Clause , located in Article 1, to support their argument that Congress has been granted power over migration. According to Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University, the clause supposedly gives Congress control over migration and border policies. Despite this supposition, the Foreign Commerce Clause is merely the realization of its name: it only grants Congress power over commerce between foreign entities. The term commerce implies economic transactions and consequently the movement of commodities, in this case, international movement of commodities. • 32. Desire In Thou Blind Man s Mark By Sir Philip Sidney In Sir Philip Sidney s sonnet, Thou Blind Man s Mark, the speaker describes his personal experience with the vice of desire. Buy expressing the abstract and hazardous nature of desire it becomes evident that the speaker acknowledges both his disdain for the subject and his struggle to overcome it. The initial quatrain builds the idea of the blind man s mark, known as desire, with the speaker presenting progressively derogatory comments about it. By addressing desire as the blind man s mark the speaker implies that those who succumb to it are unaware of themselves doing so, since blindness represents a lack of perception. Adding to this notion, the speaker continues to call desire fond fancy s scum, and dregs of scattered thought to engrain the fleeting an trite nature the subject possesses. This list of insults climaxes in the final line of the quatrain, where the speaker states that the ultimate danger of the convoluted web of will is its perpetuity, since its end is never wrought; because it spirals on without an individuals critically analyzing their actions. ... Even when protection happens in both sides of conflict, Palestine is illustrated as a more protective community, since the invaders are located within their territories. He shows how protection is within the Palestinian and Israeli families and pride. Sacco adds that families began to leave their houses, in page 24, he presents, his family was chased out by constant Israeli gunfire, in this quote Sacco draws himself also in the frame next to Mr. T. a man who is looking after his family s security. This man has to make a life decision of leaving their secure home, to find an actual secure place for his family. Sacco points out those guns are in the hands of Israeli army, but also in Palestinians hands. He chooses to not make the clear connection but the constant firing happens when there are two different parties attacking. This attack is seen as a protection for both countries lives. • 35. Comparing Satire In Candide And Gulliver Fundamentally, the main two characters in these books Voltaire s Candide and Swift s Gulliver s Travels (Candide and Gulliver) respectively have been used as units or vehicles for satire throughout the works. It is therefore of paramount importance to note that, Gulliver and Candide serve as ironies in these books. The books uses simple language but is characterized by irony as shown by the actions, practices, and behaviors of the characters. Also of importance to note is that, although the author exposes the two main characters to positions that do not best fit them in terms of their actions, the reader must be made to understand that the characters remain oblivious and naïve to their circumstances. According to the nature of the two literature works, I think the reader must be made to understand that, the two books are used to criticize human weakness by using some names such as Yahoos and Horse to describe human and the society. In the Voltaire s Candide, the main character is exposed to all sorts of ridiculous circumstances which excellently work to paint a clear picture of the intentions of the author who suffered a lot in his life as he was forced to exile in England, and imprisoned for a long time. ... • 43. Civil Disobedience And The Apartheid Throughout history, civil disobedience has been used to bring about change across a wide variety of civil rights issues. In India, Mahatma Gandhi used civil disobedience to nonviolently protest against the British Raj and, after a thirty year struggle, earn independence both for himself and his people. In the United States, Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. employed civil disobedience to overcome both the Jim Crow laws that had oppressed the African American minority and the systemic racism that was once prevalent in the Southern United States. In South Africa, Nelson Mandela utilized civil disobedience to lead an anti apartheid revolution to combat the apartheid system that systemically discriminated against the black inhabitants of South Africa. All three of these exemplary men have earned a Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts (the prize was not awarded in 1948 because there was no suitable living candidate , a tribute to Gandhi who was recently assassinated). Although violence could have been used to combat these civil rights violations, all three of these individuals chose not to resort to violence, in favor of a more amicable alternative: civil disobedience. Little has changed since then, (In the long run, penmanship classes for doctors won t do much for patient safety, 2001). This has been an ongoing problem since inception. Therefore, the beginning of the process should be changed in this day and age of technology to have prescriptions entered into computers and handheld devices by the doctor, to ensure accuracy of the medication that is needed to be filled, and electronically sent to the pharmacy.
