light, easy and informal manner. In other words
talking to somebody in a friendly way.
Chatting on the Internet comes in many forms.
You can have one-on-one chatting via instant
messaging software. You can also have group
discussions via a chat room or a forum.
It offers a real-time transmission of a sender to a
receiver.
The first online chat system was called
Talkomatic, created by Doug Brown and David R
Wolley in 1973.
Whatsupp, Messenger, Wechat, Viber, etc are
the examples of real time chatting application.
4. Free of Cost: Most of the chat services are free of
cost. The only cost incurred is that for Internet.
Multitasking: You can complete other tasks while
chatting over the Internet. For example, you can be
online at anytime even while working or reading.
Ease of Accessibility: Chat services are available to
everyone. It helps us to remain in touch with our
families and friends in any part of the world.
Increase knowledge: Using online chatting can
provide learners with opportunities for ... with
professionals and to broaden horizons through
qualified knowledge. We can also know the traditions
and cultures from the other country.
5. Time Management: Because you can multitask
while chatting on the Internet, it can become
easy to lose track of time. You can end up
chatting longer than you intended to, which can
make it difficult to complete other tasks.

someone's remarks can be hard to determine
over the Internet. Therefore, you have to be
very careful with the way you word things.
Dangers: If you chat with strangers over the
Internet, you can open yourself to predators.
People can lie about who they are in an effort to
hurt you in some way. Your conversations can
also be saved, which can come back to haunt you
if someone has bad intentions.
6. E-Mail i.e. Electronic mail is a method of
exchanging messages between people using
electronic devices.
It is a way of sending electronic messages or
data from one computer to another.
An E-mail server holds the message for a person
until he retrieves it.
In order to make use of E-mail service you need
to create an e-mail account on any of the email
service providers like gmail.com, yahoo.com,
hotmail.com, rediff.com etc.
On July 4, 1996 Hotmail launched the first free
web based email service.
7. Easy to use : We can send & receive email
messages and save them on our computers.
Fastest means of Communication : They are
delivered at once around the world. No other
form of written communication is as fast as
an email.
Easy to compose : The language used in
emails is simple and informal and hence easy
to compose.
Eco-friendly : Emails do not use paper. They
are environment friendly and save a lot of
trees from being cut down.
8. Multiple uses : Emails can also have pictures
in them. We can send birthday cards or
newsletters as emails.
Bulk Messaging : We can easily send bulk
messages to a large number of people
simultaneously.
Official mode of communication : Most of
the corporate especially in paperless offices
it is a formal means of communication.
Specially when offices are in different cities
or countries email is used to send the
information.
9. Emails may carry viruses. These are the small
programs that harm our computer system.
They can read out your email address book
and send themselves to a number of people
around the world.
Many people send unwanted emails to other.
These are called spam mails.
Your mailbox may get flooded with emails
after a certain time so you have to empty it
from time to time.
