ROLE OF COMPUTER IN EDUCATION
 Computer have changed the way we work and
play a vital role in every profession.
 It aid in industrial processes, field of education,
medicine, etc.
 Computer softwares have also been
developed for every field and they are
flourishing which is playing an important role in
education.
 This is why education experts have made
computer education an integral part of
curriculum.
ROLES COMPUTER PLAY IN
EDUCATION
Computer technology has a great impact on the
educational sector.
 Owing to memory capacities of Computers, large
chunks of data can be stored in them.
 Computer teaching plays a key role in modern
education system.
 Students find it easier to refer to the internet than
searching for information in fat books.
 Online education has revolutionized the education
industry.
 Computer education has made the dream of
distance learning ,a reality.
Cont…
 Education is no longer limited to classroom it
has reached far and wide thanks to computers.
 Computer facilitate effective presentation of
information.
 Presentation soft wares like power point and
animation soft wares like flash can be of great
help to the teachers in delivering lectures.
 The otherwise not so interesting topics
become interesting due to audio-visual effects
as subject can be explained in different ways.
WHAT IS COMPUTER EDUCATION?
 Computer refers to an electronic device which is capable of receiving
information (data) in a particular form and performing a sequence of
operations, in accordance with a predetermined program to produce a
result in a form of information.
 Computer education is an application of computer program to education
in order to aid teaching and learning in the school, particularly in the
classroom setting.
 Computers has proved to be a valuable educational tool.
 Computer assisted instruction(CAI) uses computerized lessons that
ranges from simple drill and practices questions to complex interactive
tutorials.
 These program have become essential teaching tools in schools where
topics are complex and the cost of human-teachers is extremely high.
ADVANTAGES OF COMPUTER
EDUCATION
 A computer is an electronic device that stores and
processes data.
 It allows users to manipulate data easily.
 The speed of performance of a computer is
incomparable, therefore, teaching and learning
process becomes more efficient.
 The computer and internet have affected our way of
learning, working , storing information,
communicating, playing and also writing. In fact,
computers are used in every sphere of life today.
 One can write more effectively by means of a
computer.
Cont…
 A computer allows the user to create
documents, edit ,print and store them so they
can be retrieved later.
 Using the computer, one can remain
connected to the world through the internet.
 Internet is a network of computers that
communicate via the internet protocol suite
(IP).
 Computer can be used by students as a
storage system where materials, information
and electronic educational books can be
stored.
USES OF COMPUTER IN EDUCATION
 Computer is important in keeping office records, online/offline
admission, attendance, classroom teaching-learning process,
setting examination papers, conducting online/offline
examination, evaluation, feedback, student’s portfolio, etc.
 Various apps, such as, translator, groups, mail, docs, sites,
images, etc. are very helpful.
 Online content can be created at wikis, blogs, free websites
and various other platforms easily.
 Ppts and other types of files can be uploaded/downloaded
from slideshare, scribd, etc.
 Videos can be uploaded/downloaded from Youtube etc.
Cont…
 Images can be uploaded/downloaded from
google images, Instagram, Etc.
 All kinds of resources are available on
internet.
 Online courses can be created at moodle.
 Free online courses can be done.
Cont…
 NFE is provided to those sections of the
community who have no access to or have
dropped out from Formal Education.
 Non-formal Education has emerged as a
search for alternatives in educational
experience because formal education has not
successfully responded to development
problems.
 This form of education has also been
employed in a number of and elsewhere with
mixed outcomes.
FORMAL EDUCATION
 Formal education is a structured and systematic
form of learning.
 This is the education of a certain standard delivered
to students by trained teachers.
 To make sure formal learning is standardized and
all learning institutions (e.g. schools, colleges,
universities, etc.)
 All teachers are trained and licensed to teach
children, and they’re the same teachers the students
will see every day to keep their education and
training consistent.
DISTANCE EDUCATION
 First is the concept that distance education is
institutionally-based.
 This is what differentiates distance education
from self-study.
 The second component of the definition of
distance education is the concept of
separation of the teacher and student.
 Most often, separation is thought of in
geographic terms—teachers are in one
location and students in another.
DISTANCE EDUCATION
 Interactive telecommunications is the third component
of the definition of distance education.
 Interaction can be synchronous or asynchronous—at
the same time, or at different times.
 Finally, we examine the concept of connecting learners,
resources, and instructors.
 This means that there are instructors who interact with
learners and that resources are available that permit
learning to occur.
 Resources should be subjected to instructional design
procedures that organize them into learning
experiences which promote learning, including
resources that can be observed, felt, heard, or
completed.
COMPUTER BASED
LEARNING
 Computer Based Learning is the version of distance
learning, requiring students to participate at designated
times and places.
 This means that students must touch base at a
designated computer lab, or even meet in an actual
classroom at a pre-determined time.
 The most common form of distance learning is a
program that sets a pre-determined schedule that can
be kept from any location.
 This could mean that students are able to work from
home, school, or the office, as long as they log onto the
online learning site at a designated time.
 These programs often include a live online forum.
Cont…
 Synchronous technology is a mode of online delivery
where all participants are present at the same time.
 Requires a timetable to be organized.
 Asynchronous technology is a mode of online delivery
where participants access course materials on their own
schedule.
 Students are not required to be together at the same
time.
 Synchronous technologies:
 Telephone , Videoconferencing Web Conferencing ,
Audio conferencing , Internet chat.
 Asynchronous technologies:
 Audiocassette, E-mail ,Print Materials, Voice Mail/fax
Videocassette, Broadcast video, Radio, CD-ROM.
VIDEO DISK
 A Videodisk (or videodisc) is a digital
recording (e.g. video or audio) on an optical
disk that can be played on a computer or a
television set.
 This technology has been replaced by DVDs,
but there are still working installations in use
for training.
 Videodisks were relatively popular devices in
education before CD-ROMS
and DVDs became popular.
ELECTRONIC MAIL
 Electronic mail, often abbreviated as E-mail, is
a method of exchanging digital messages,
designed primarily for human use.
 E-mail systems are based on a store & forward
model in which E-mail server systems accept,
forward, deliver and store messages on behalf
of users, who only need to connect to the e-
mail infrastructure.
 An electronic mail message consists of two
components:
 Message header
 The message header contains control
information, including an originators email
address and one or more recipient addresses.
 Usually additional information is added, such
as a subject header field.
 Message body which is the emails content.
WHY TO USE EMAIL?
 We can send a message anytime anywhere.
 We can send the same message to several peoples at
same time.
 We can forward the information to coworkers without
retyping it.
 We can send the messages around the world as easily
as to friend in the next.
 We can save the time, E-mail is very fast, usually taking
no more time than a few minutes to be received.
 We can mail Electronic documents and recipients can
then edit and return revised versions.
 It is very fast as compare to postal mail.
Advantages of Email
 Quick Communication Message can be sent to
many.
 Messages can be saved and stored.
 It can be pasted to any other document.
 Documents, Images and Videos can be
attached.
 Emails are not anonymous.
 Free of cost.
COMPUTER CONFERENCING
 Computer conferencing is the use of an
enhanced electronic mail environment to
establish communication—asynchronously or
synchronously—among participants who may
be separated by time and/or distance.
 Computer conferencing allows a student to
engage in individual communication with
another student or with the instructor.
 To participate in group communication with
other students and the instructor.
Advantages of Computer
Conferencing
 There are a number of advantages that accrue to
computer conferencing.
 Some are advantages shared by other delivery
systems, but some are unique to Computer
Conferencing.
 Some of the advantages are directly related to
the characteristics of the technology itself—
 administrative, logistical, and hardware/software-
based advantages, which might be called “hard”
advantages.
Cont…
 These are that computer conferencing:
 • is time- and space-independent;
 • is primarily a text-based medium;
 • provides a permanent record;
 • enables document transfer;
 • decreases turnaround time; and
 • allows access to on-line resources.
Cont…
 Other advantages of CC have more to do with pedagogy and
process—what we call “soft” advantages. Computer
conferencing:
 • provides an egalitarian ( based on the principle that all people
are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities) context;
 • improves access to education;
 • overcomes social isolation and increases emotional
involvement;
 • has potential for improved participation;
 • provides opportunity for increased interaction both with the
instructor and with peers;
 • enables cooperative and collaborative group work; and
 • enables knowledge-building.
World Wide Web (WWW)
 Definition: The Web is the part of the Internet
that consists of pages (documents) linked to
each other around the world.
 These pages have pictures, sounds, and more.
Explanation:
 A website can have many pages; the first is the
Home Page.
 You use a browser to point and click your way
to other pages or to do research.
 Sentence: "Do you have a site on the Web?"
MICROFICHE
 A microfiche is a small sheet of film on which
writing or other information is stored, greatly
reduced in size.
 Microfiche is a card made of transparent
film used to store printed information in
miniaturized form.
 To read the card, one places it under the lens of
a microfiche reader machine, which magnifies
it.
ADULT EDUCATION
 Adult education can play an important role in
improving the conditions for learning, in
increasing the sharing of this learning along
the lines of intercultural education, and in
equalizing opportunities for learning and for
meaningful participation among all members of
society.
Objectives of Adult Education
 The important objectives of adult education are:
 1. To make adults aware of their civic responsibilities to
one another and to the community, the nation.
 2. To make them economically more efficient.
 3. To develop a sense of responsibility and a knowledge of
how to proceed in making personal adjustments to home
life and family relationship.
 4. To promote health and physical fitness.
 5. To supplement and broaden educational background.
 6. To provide the means for encouraging cultural
development and an appreciation of arts.
 7. To provide for the development of educational interests
through opportunity for self expression.

  • 15. DISTANCE EDUCATION  First is the concept that distance education is institutionally-based.  This is what differentiates distance education from self-study.  The second component of the definition of distance education is the concept of separation of the teacher and student.  Most often, separation is thought of in geographic terms—teachers are in one location and students in another.
  • 16. DISTANCE EDUCATION  Interactive telecommunications is the third component of the definition of distance education.  Interaction can be synchronous or asynchronous—at the same time, or at different times.  Finally, we examine the concept of connecting learners, resources, and instructors.  This means that there are instructors who interact with learners and that resources are available that permit learning to occur.  Resources should be subjected to instructional design procedures that organize them into learning experiences which promote learning, including resources that can be observed, felt, heard, or completed.
  • 17. COMPUTER BASED LEARNING  Computer Based Learning is the version of distance learning, requiring students to participate at designated times and places.  This means that students must touch base at a designated computer lab, or even meet in an actual classroom at a pre-determined time.  The most common form of distance learning is a program that sets a pre-determined schedule that can be kept from any location.  This could mean that students are able to work from home, school, or the office, as long as they log onto the online learning site at a designated time.  These programs often include a live online forum.
