Metallic bonds form between metal cations and delocalized electrons, allowing metals to conduct electricity. Organic compounds contain carbon and form covalent bonds, while inorganic compounds lack carbon and usually form ionic bonds between metals and nonmetals. Ionic bonds occur when atoms transfer electrons, and covalent bonds form when nonmetals share electrons equally. Electronegativity determines whether atoms form ionic or covalent bonds based on their ability to attract bonding electron pairs.
