Electromagnetic waves consist of changing electric and magnetic fields that can travel through matter or empty space, transferring energy. They are produced when electric charges vibrate or accelerate and all travel at the same speed in a vacuum, as measured by Michelson. While wavelength and frequency vary inversely, electromagnetic radiation behaves both as waves and particles, with intensity decreasing with distance from the source as photons disperse.
