White light separates into colors when passing through a prism due to different wavelengths refracting at different angles, called dispersion. An object's color depends on both its composition and the color of light illuminating it. Primary colors are red, green, and blue, which when mixed in different amounts can create all other colors. Secondary colors are cyan, yellow, and magenta, which are combinations of two primary colors. Complimentary colors of light combine to form white light. Primary pigment colors are cyan, yellow, and magenta.
