Evaluation question 4
1. Who would be the audience for your media product? Evaluation-Question 4
2. Marketers typically combine several variables to create a demographic profile of their audience They determine what segments or subgroups exist in the overall population And create a clear and complete picture of the characteristics of a typical member of each of these segments. DEMOGRAPHICS
3. To determine the audience for our film we need to use the demographics which media producers want to know: Income bracket/status Age Gender Race Location Our product:
4. The audiences income for our product could be quite broad. This is the demographic table used: I think our audience will be students and adults/young adults with lower incomes, coming under the bracket between C1 and E. This is because of the age group I am aiming for and the main audience who will see a thriller. INCOME/STATUS
5. Certain genres are considered appropriate for certain ages/genders, specifically, in society There is a niche market already created for some genres. For thrillers the rating tends to be 15 or 18 Our product will aim for 18-25 year olds This is because I have looked at the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) for guidelines on the ratings of films. AGE
6. A 15 rating is considered allowed violence and gore but without going into detail. I think our film should be an 18 certificate as our film is a crime thriller and I feel it needs detail and explanation with the violence that would be in the film. This is similar to ‘Seven’ which we have based our film on throughout, which is rated 18 and follows the detectives finding out why someone has committed the murders. It could also be discriminatory to some extent because of the Nazi theme involved- this is not allowed in a 15 certificate. Reasons for 18+
7. Our film will aim for males and females, however it will be mainly aimed at males. This is partly because of the niche market already created being the majority male It is also because the two main characters in our film are male. Females could be marketed through the attractiveness of the male characters as well as the detective/crime style plot line adding to the violence. This set up is similar to ‘Seven’ which has two male main characters, one of which is the attractive Brad Pitt. We could include a female associated with the victim in our opening sequence so that the female audience has something to identify with. GENDER
8. I think the main audience in this section of demographics will be white. This is because the Nazi theme within the film might become offensive to some other ethnicities watching the film. As well as this the main characters are white. To appeal to the wider audience I would put in an african-american character, this would mean that others wouldhave something to identify with. ‘Seven’ is also appealing to the wider audience with the main character played by Morgan Freeman. RACE
9. The film will be marketed to America and Britain because it is a mainstream film, produced by New Line Cinema. America are the two main audiences within film and will be easier to target with the actors being from Britain as well. LOCATION
