The Art of Decision-Making: Navigating Complexity and Uncertainty
Question 4 and 5 - Who would be the audience for your media product? How did you attract/address your audience?
1. Question four and five: Who would be the audience for your media product? How did you
atract/address your aduience?
The audience Reel Production want to attarct for our film 'Bad Blood' is males aged 16 - 34, we
chose this to be our traget aduience as we felt sterotypically due to research males bewteen the
ages 16 and 34 mostly watch action genre films.
While doing audience research it showed that many teenage males and young adult
males watch action movies. People think that this is because men often enjoy the thrill
and adrenaline rush from things that are often included within action movies. These are
things such as cars, guns girls and violence. These are all things associated with the
typical hegemonic male. However it is also proven that testosterone levels rise within
men as they watch action movies and this often brings out the ‘Little Boy’ within men. In
other reseach found that; Men aged between 16 - 34 are 85% more likely to watch an
action genre film.
Only 15% of men would rather watch a different film genre.
The most popular action films are the Star Wars saga, the marvel collection, the DC
collection, Lucas films e.g. Indiana jones, and James Bond films. I think these films are
rather popular as they have a variety of action scenes and also a variety of different
angle shots that help build tension and make the action clearer.
We addressed the audience by using differnet lighting, at the start of the opening two
minutes we used a bright lighting to draw the audience in then we had a darker lighting
for the end of the opening two minutes to imitate trouble/danger. We did this at the
end of the two minute opening to create some supsense and to keep the audience
intersted.
Another way we addressed the aduience was through sound, we used sound effects to
create a realistic atmosphere. The sound effects we used were 'gun shot' and 'swoosh',
we used thse to create a tension and supsense to keep the aduience interested and
involved with the film.
The props we used within the film was another way we intreged the audience. The
props we used were sterotypical for a action film; e.g. A gun. Using the gun imitated
trouble/danger, again, which is linked with violence. We used the violence link as research
showed men and teenage boys enjoy seeing some sort of violence in a movie as it excites them.
