2. Evidence provided by:
Music Machinery
Music consumption statistics
This is a chart of the percentage of
consumers that listen to pop music (In
2011) and this evidence suggests
suggests that their are more male
listeners and that the most popular
age range is 16-20 at 49%.
This evidence was in fact provided
from back in 2011 and I cannot
confirm that this evidence is in fact
genuine or unbiased, however Music
Machinery does have a positive
reputation I will still conduct a survey
to help understand my audience
accurately therefore making a more
successful media product.
3. Simon Frith
Simon Firth is a Sociomusicologist, who supposed that pop music does in fact aim to
appealing to a general audience rather than a specific subculture or ideology. Also that they
do in fact have an emphasis on craftsmanship rather than “formal artistic qualities”.
This specifically refers to components that can be isolated and
defined. Therefore Simon Firth is supposing that pop is popular
because of the music itself / music video rather than specific
conventions or schemas set by people. Therefore making the
“Pop” culture vary a lot rather than other Genres where they
follow a specific ideology.
4. In this specific example:
Michael Jackson’s Thriller &
Adele - Send my love
Let's have a look in detail...
5. In Michael Jackson's thriller it does in fact have a narrative with a mixture of performance as
supposed by the theorist Joan Lynch who supposed there are three basic video structures
Performance, Narrative and Concept. Michael’s video follows these conventions. However in
Adele “Send my love” it is completely different as it is completely performance based with some
special effects. In this case music videos do in fact vary a lot within the genre therefore
meaning that I was indecisive of any specific conventions that I needed to follow. However, this
wasn't good enough information to accurately create a successful creating a media product
meaning that I will need to conduct successful primary market research to find out what makes
a successful music video. From the evidence provided by “Music Machinery” it seems that my
music video will be most popular within males and aged 16-20 however my own research will
need to be conducted alongside this evidence.
In this specific example:
