2. From our research, we found that it was best to
our film a certificate 15. This was because our
survey monkey results confirmed that it was
mostly 16-18 year olds that had taken part. This
means only people above the age of 15 are
able to view our film. This allows to include
violence, strong language, sexual references,
nudity and drug taking. Our target audience is
ages 15-24 years old and is not gender specific.
3. One of the films our film opening is similar to is Our
opening is similar to "Shutter Island" (Scorsese, 2010),
which is also certificate 15. A way in which they are similar
is that shutter island also has a montage of clips at the
beginning.
Our opening is also "Gone girl" (Fincher, 2014), because,
like ours the credits fade in and out. Our thriller, like "Gone
girl" (Fincher, 2014) is also a psychological thriller. From
our research we found that “Gone girl” appealed to mostly
teenagers.
Links to other films include, ‘Fathers and Daughters’
(2015, Muccino) as it covers loosing a parent, like our
thriller would if it was made into a full length film.
4. We decided on 15-24 for many reasons. Firstly, our survey
monkey showed that mostly teenagers liked thrillers.
Another reason was because, our audience are roughly
the same age as our protagonist and therefore allows her
to be a relatable character.
We found this would be an easier age range for us to cater
to as we are 16 and 17 years old ourselves, therefore on
top of audience feedback we have a good understanding
of what this age range want to see in a thriller.
We also thought this would be an appropriate age rang
because of the themes our film would cover such as
loosing a parent as well as strong violence and language.
5. We originally thought about having a female
target audience but we changed this as we
believe we should have a wide target audience.
We changed this because we wanted to make a
film which both genders could relate to as if we
made our film into a full length, the victim’s
character would be explored further, allowing
the film to have one protagonist as female and
one as male.
6. Above, is two of our audience profiles, in which we studied a female and male in
our target audience age range. This helped massively as it gave us so much
more information about our target audience in general, which contributed to
thinking about our marketing campaign and ideas for this.
7. Ways in which we targeted our target audience include:
Our protagonist’s age, she is around the same age as our target
audience, making her relatable.
Make up of the protagonist
First piece of music, as from our audience feedback we found that our
audience enjoyed the suspense building music.
Our second track, as it is upbeat and fun, which was also chosen by
us, who would be our target audience as we are all around the same
age as our target audience.
The fact that our film is a psychological thriller as from our audience
research we found that our target audience prefer psychological
thrillers.
Another way in which we targeted our audience was by making our
marketing campaign very focused on social media as from our
research we found that 94% of teenagers had some form of social
media.
