1. Unit 15 LA B&C
“The disappearance of oliver Barrett”is the title of my movie. The focus of my film is entertaining
action sequences. The main point of my film is to entertain the viewer with flashy camera angles
and choreographed fight scenes
I decided to promote my film on:
Instagram making and account and posting behind the scenes and posters.
Youtube, publishing a trailer on there as well as where the finished movie will be uploaded to.
The genre of the film will be action, and will follow codes and conventions of typical action films
therefore there will be fast paced scenes and graphic images such as the use of weaponry and
violence.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The film is suitable for people over 16 this is because young children may be exposed to
violence and weapon use therefore not a positive message.most of the people who will want to
watch the film will be male as action films are most popular with the male demographic, this film
will not be offensive to any race gender or demographic therefore it is suitable to view by
anybody of age.
The poster features an interesting design as it is intentionally
made to look cracked. This could be a metaphor for the action in the film or the emotional
damage the main character goes through in the film. I think this is a very clever design choice.
2. The colors red and white are prevalent on this poster and all promotional material and all the
fonts are similar the team promoting the film are trying to convey the premise of it being an
action film.
Just like this poster my film will show release day information so interested potential customers
will know when to book tickets.
in this poster the two main colors are blue and orange on
the blue side of the the poster features patterns that are similar to coding languages this
connotes a possible detective spy film.
The target in the middle of the “O” in “bourne” suggests he is being hunted or there is significant
violence.
Because there are a sequence of Bourne films, the Bourne in the poster being bold makes the
audience know the film is of the same franchise.
The two characters are slightly blurry creating a sense of urgency bu they also go nicely with the
blue background creating a sense of order.
Primary research
I have decided i would want feedback from my target audience so i had surveys printed and
requested people from different college classes to fill them out for me

Conclusion
Most teenagers these days no matter their interests typically consume advertisements through
social media due to them spending most of their free time on it, and print media is used very
little if not at all therefore if i am to advertise to college and secondary school students i must
only do it through digital media. Teens differ to how they get convinced to watch films through
the ads they see, some like compelling storylines while others is just elements of their favourite
genre. Some teens are stubborn so will not be convinced to see a film unless what they have
already seen peaks their interest.
PITCH
The title of my film is “the disappearance of oliver barrett” it is about a political candidate being
kidnapped by an alt left movement who do not agree with his political opinions, a secret agent is
tasked with his safe return, there will be alot of action sequences so i think my film will be pg
due to the weaponry shown throughout the film the release date would hopefully be around the
spring when the summer holidays are around for university and college students to have
enough time to view the film i have decided to promote my film on instagram as it is a great way
to promote posters and wallpapers and behind the scenes, youtube by publishing a trailer, and
where the movie will be posted to be free for everyone
Reception theory
Dominant when there is a clear cut message with the film and there is no audience opinion to be
made
4. Negotiated reading when there is an idea to the film but the audience can make their own
opinion
Oppositional reading when the audience make their own idea up to the meaning of the film
Research i have been thinking about doing a survey and interviewing college students to see if
there is an interest in my film among the students the questions will include
What is the course you are doing? This will be a question because i will want students from
different courses being interviewed as i want students with different interests for a more
accurate reading
Would you be interested in an action film that involves a political candidate being kidnapped?
why? This will make sure there is interest for a film like the one i am making among students
Audience profile
Age 18-30 years old
Gender male
Education college/uni student or working class
Job working class
Why they would like to see my film as it is an action genre therefore they will find it entertaining
Secondary research
my film poster will be loosely based of the taken franchise and their
promotional material. In this poster the main colors used are black and red black connotes
death as it is the common color used in funeral ceremonies, and red connotes violence as it is a
harsh bright color and the same as blood, this links with the film being an action movie, and
creates a scary, hopeless atmosphere.
The feature of a gun also connotes violence for my poster. I would like to incorporate some kind
of weaponry on my poster to clearly show my film is an action film.
5. The iconic quote on the poster creates tension not directly but insinuates it i would incorporate a
quote on my film poster.
Reception theory
The marketing for taken is very much filled with preferred reading the audience know what the
film is about and know right away whether they are interested or not
