Civil War Amputations Essay
Amputations were very common during the civil war because there were no antibiotics and infection
was very common. Many things could result in amputations including gunshot wounds, infections,
multiple breaks in a bone, injury, etc. Chloroform was used to sedate patients before surgery for an
amputation. Most amputees would not go back into battle. Over 75% of the amputees survived
surgery, which was a lot considering that medical knowledge wasn t that advanced since America had
a mindset of war over medicine, at the time. Also, since there were so many amputations and almost
all of the surgeons could do them, doctors were nicknamed sawbones .
This pamphlet was a guide for a surgeon to perform an amputation. As most surgeons had very little
medical training, this was completely necessary. More than 30,000 amputations were performed
during the civil war, with a 23.4% mortality rate. As surgeons got more ... Show more content on

Surgeons worked very hard and once the Civil War was over (likely) or the army thought it was time
for a soldier to leave the war (less likely) they were discharged. By the time the civil war ended more
than 12,000 surgeons had served. In all, more than 174,000 wounds were presented in field hospitals
around the US. Of these, 30,000 resulted in amputations by a surgeon. Surgeons were completely
necessary for the success of either side (though the North won the war) to succeed in the war.
This image shows Mary Edward Walker. She was the only female surgeon to ever serve during the
Civil War and advocated for women s rights. During the Civil War, she was captured by the
Confederate Army. When she was released, she received the Medal of Honor for her meritorious
service. When the civil war was over, Walker lectured on issues such as dress reform and Women s
suffrage. Mary Walker started the realization and advocation that women are equal to

Closing The Achievement Gap Through Administration
Closing the Achievement Gap Through Administration
Patrick Kegley
Texas A M University Commerce Closing the Achievement Gap Through Administration
Whether on the scale of a school district, a state, or the nation, achievement gaps exist. Wealth seems
to be the deciding factor, with race coming in at a close second, but these do not (and should not) be
deciding factors. The State of Texas has developed The P 16 Initiative which seeks to close theses
performance gaps between the poor and wealthy. Our textbook reads: The P 16 is an effort to work
with stakeholders collaboratively to foster a more integrated education system, while addressing issues
of college readiness standards, teacher education, and educational ... Show more content on

As with the importance of selecting a highly qualified principal to help raise test scores and closing
achievement gaps, the selection and support of staff is also critical. Gregory F. Branch, Eric A.
Hanushek, and Steven G. Rivkin s 2013 study School Leaders Matter examined the effectiveness of
many principles leadership and the effect they had on student achievement ratings. A primary channel
through which principals can be expected to improve the quality of education is by raising the quality
of teachers, either by improving the instruction provided by existing teachers or through teacher
transitions that improve the caliber of the school s workforce (Branch, pg.4). A principal must be able
to continually seek out professional development, to research best practices and new educational
theories to support their staff and students. If principals are to close the achievement gap, they must be
willing to inform and instruct their staff on new teaching strategies. Mr. Canada, from his TED talk,
Our failing schools. Enough is enough! , states: You go into a place that has failed kids for fifty years
and say: so what s the plan? And they say: Well, we are going to do what we did last year, this year .
What kind of business model is that? (TED, 2013). The principal willing to venture into new,
uncharted waters may succeed or fail, but at least they

Cord Blood
Cord blood refers to the blood that remains in the blood vessels of the placenta along with the
umbilical cord that it is attached to. Also known as placental blood or umbilical cord blood, cord blood
contains red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. It is also rich in blood forming
(hematopoietic) stem cells. These are similar to the ones found in bone marrow. Due to its similarity
with bone marrow, cord blood may be used for transplantation. Storing this blood can potentially be
used as a form of treatment for a child, should they become ill. The reason for this is because, stem
cells present in the blood can become any human cell. By storing this blood, it not only helps the
individual from whom the extra blood came from

The Changes In Religion In The Communist Manifesto By Karl...
For Karl Marx, the changes in religion ultimately reflect the changes happening in society, because the
religious world is just a reflection of the real world. If this is the case here, the use of technology in a
religious setting would make sense, as our technological world is ever expanding and will further
benefit the people at the top of religious hierarchies. In terms of online for profit churches, Marx
might argue that the market is driving the religious realm to cater to technological advances. Marx
states in The Communist Manifesto, The feudal system of industry...now no longer sufficed for the
growing wants of the new markets , meaning that longstanding religious traditions, such as confession
and synagogue teachings before Bar/Bat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, Durkheim would also argue that religion is mirrored after society, meaning that as society
evolves specifically in the technological realm religious practices will follow suit. This will occur
because religious representations are collective representations which express collective realities ,
meaning Durkheim would probably think that online churches are meant to appeal to modern ideals
(McIntosh, 1997). As Durkheim states in Religion and Society, the rites are a manner of acting, which
take rise in the midst of the assembled groups which are destined to excite, maintain or recreate
certain mental states... , he further establishes that religious groups will do what is necessary to
conform to what is happening in society in order to stay relevant (McIntosh, 1997). Durkheim would
probably argue in favor of these online for profit church practices because it brings a sense of unity to
modern society, and acts as a way to revitalize the conscience collective, and churches provide a
society whose members are united by the fact that they think in the same way in regard to the sacred
world (McIntosh, 1997). Online churches might provide a new ritual that serves to remind us of our
social solidarity. In opposition, Durkheim might argue that online for profit churches bring with them
a lack of anomie. As stated by

Battlefield Vs. Call Of Duty Game
BATTLEFIELD VERSUS CALL OF DUTY
The Battlefield franchise is one of the top selling shooter games of all times. It is best known for its
real life recreation of all out war. This game is a first person shooter team based game. Almost like an
arcade game with the guns on the side of it. Since 2002 the game has been loved by those who
consider themselves game players. Battlefield was different from any other game you could know.
Most shooter games are individual based, but what makes Battlefield different is you must work with
a team. For example, flag football is a team based game you need everyone doing their part to capture
the flag. No one has ever seen a game which required team effort online with random people before in
the history of video gaming. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within these franchises, they both accommodate the needs of gender without any bias stereotypes. The
game is an interactive shooting game video game, which will contribute to the history of those
individuals within the industry. Activision is the company that created this game. This franchise is
known for its fast paced online multiplayer games. Multiplayer is where you play with other players
that have the same game as you (It is like playing chess online).
With Call of Duty, you can talk to a person constantly with no wait within the game which requires a
microphone? Nevertheless, with Call of Duty you are a lone wolf by yourself without anyone actively
playing or interaction with others. You as a player must decide what s best for you even though you
are on a team. Think about the saying Every man for themselves there the title provides the individual
with insight or prior knowledge about this particular game. It is a war game, but it is more on a

Revenue in Print Media
REVENUE IN PRINT MEDIA
Print production is measured on its quality, timeliness and effectiveness, whether it s a brochure or
packaging or a magazine advertisement. But when something in the production process goes wrong, it
can not only cause delays but also increase cost and impact quality. The challenge for print buyers is
to manage print jobs efficiently through procurement and production while guaranteeing consistent
quality and on time in budget completion. This requires specialized expertise.
Digital technology is increasingly competing with print media by opening access to endless sources of
news. It may now seem that the need of the reader to buy a newspaper for news and the need of the
advertiser to advertise in it, is slowly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Modern newspapers must be compact, a less is more approach would help cut newsprint, printing,
distribution and other costs that do not add to the journalism.
As for the revenue to sustain print media, it will have to come from a high degree of integration
between the static and the dynamic mediums. For example, a dynamic browser tool bar may aggregate
news from different sources, allowing not only targeted advertising but also for charging micro
payment from readers.
In the true sense of the word no two media can be rivals. New technology rarely replaces the previous
technology completely. As both print and digital media is completely dependent on computers for their
production process it would be easy for both to be complementary to each other. The wise perspective
would be one of digital and print media rather than digital vs print media.
The economic downturn has thrown up a challenge and an opportunity for the print media to
transform itself.

To save money on dining out, purchase groceries to last you for the week. You can buy things to make
sandwiches so that you do not have to spend a lot of your vacation in the kitchen. Also, purchase
things for several home cooked meals so that you will not be tempted to eat out often.
The final step will be packing for your trip. Make a list of things that you will need while on vacation.
Be sure to pack all clothing and toiletries that you will need for a week. Also be sure to pack any
medications that you will need for the length of your stay. As you pack, take the time to mark things
off your list. Did you remember all of the kids swimsuits, floats, water toys and sunblock? Did you
pack snacks for the ride to your destination and games for the kids to play while riding to keep them
from getting bored?
Planning in advance and thoroughly for your vacation is the best way to enjoy your vacation when the
time to go finally arrives. As long as you have planned correctly by reserving your room, purchasing
your supplies, and packing properly, you will have a fabulous and worry free vacation. You and the
whole family will be able to enjoy your time away, and you will make many memories to enjoy
because you took all the stress and worry out of your vacation by properly planning the trip. Later on,
you will be able to reminisce about all the great times you had with your

Cybersecurity Talent Case Study
Shortage of Cybersecurity Talent
Companies are constantly under series of attacks by hackers. Hackers have carried out successfully
attacks across the globe due to lack of proper defense, this is as result of lack of cybersecurity talents
that can adequately secure networked systems and data being targeted. More than 80% of IT
professional survey in a new report said they had problems filling security roles within their

Studies found that businesses are having a hard time finding talent for secure software development,
intrusion detection and attack mitigation.
Two key concerns are being prime hacking targets, and reputational damages and loss of proprietary
data from cyber attacks. The latest huge cyber attack on Equifax has to do with lack of skilled
cybersecurity talents, with security tools not being properly managed a company s ability to respond
and mitigates breaches or attacks is compromised. The most alarming problem is that in certain cases
it takes companies more than three months to figure out that their systems have been breached , this is
as a result hired cybersecurity professional not being able to determine the scope of an attack and how

Change In Society
A great leader once said, I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but
by the content of their character (Martin Luther King Jr.). As society continues to expand, the tension
between differences inflates even more, causing people to conceal their true self. Although people are
able to be who they desire to be, justice continues to be ignored towards many groups of people all
over the world. In order for people to protect themselves from the judgement of society and fit into the
social norm, many people will obscure their true identity, affecting them in ways they never imagined.
One of the most common reasons that people hide their true identity is to avoid ridicule from the
community. Even though there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This act of denying their wrongs showed how changes in society could have happened, but since
social stigmas are strong, people obscured themselves. Another example of people hiding themselves
from the tension of change can be seen in the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Dolphus
Raymond, a wealthy white man who lives with his black mistress and mulatto children, portrays a
type of person who uses a different personality to mask himself. While talking to Scout, Dill, and Jem,
Dolphus says, It ain t honest, but it s mighty helpful to folks. Secretly, Miss. Finch, I m not much of a
drinker, but you see, they could never, never understand that I live like I do because that s the way I
want to live (Lee 268). Pretending to be something else in a world that is judgmental is not hard for
many people and it can or cannot affect the person. In this case, Dolphus does not mind hiding his true
self because of the thoughts people would have towards him. After Scout questions him on why he
would cry if he were younger, he replies, Cry about the simple hell people give other people without
even thinking. Cry about the hell white people give colored people, without even stopping to think
they re people too (Lee 269). Although it is ironic that Dolphus, a drunk minded person, would care
about such a serious topic since he is not any different than people in society. Many individuals are
very aware and hesitant of the judgement that could occur if they changed their morale or way of life;
in turn prohibiting the chance for changes in society. While To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the 1930s,
there is still racism happening today. For example, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people
really struggle. A young male living in Charlotte, North Carolina, named Brandon, identifies as
bisexual

Mahatma Gandhi As A Champion Of Rhetoric
After carefully reviewing all the candidates, I finally chose who I believe could be the next champion
of rhetoric. Before Barack Obama and Martin Luther King Jr there was another champion that was not
mentioned in the book. That champion is Mahatma Gandhi. I am interested in Mahatma Gandhi
because of his principles and the way he led his people. Anyone can just sit through it all and do
nothing. There are also people that think that violence and fear will be the solution of the problem, but
Gandhi made a difference by using his words. Everybody knows Gandhi because he used those non
violent acts, like fasting to protest. For example, when he was thrown in jail, he fasted and eventually
they let him out. The reason why they let him out was because they didn t want him to die. If he died,
the British knew that would mean trouble for them. After the British raised the tax on salt, Gandhi and
others decided to protest against them. As a result, Gandhi led the people to the ocean so they can
make their own salt. As he led them he was fully aware of the risks. As I stated before, people were
not only moved by his actions but also his words. After he determined who was his audience, then he
was able to compose a speech that would eventually sway them. Usually, the main purpose of his
speeches was to persuade his people into taking action for a better quality of life and even sometimes
to inform his people about some of the things that were going on. One of those examples is The

The Notebook By Nicholas Sparks
The movie The Notebook is based on a romance novel written by Nicholas Sparks. It begins in a
nursing home with Duke, also known as Noah reading to an elderly woman, Allie Hamilton. Allie has
dementia, therefore has slowly been losing her memory. Duke reads the story of two lovers (Allie and
Noah) who meet in South Carolina at a carnival one summer night. Allie was a rich and privileged
seventeen year old city girl. Noah, however, was a small town country boy. The two spent the whole
summer together but Allie was forced by her parents to move and go to college, although she was
willing to give it up for Noah. Noah wrote Allie 365 letters that she never received due to her mom
hiding them from her. Seven years later, Allie meets and falls in love with a wealthy soldier named
Lon. One day Allie came across Noah s picture in the paper next to a newly restored house, a house
that they had once shared a passion filled night in. Seeing Noah s picture in the paper drew Allie right
back to him. They ended up spending a couple of days together and towards the end Allie decides she
does not want to leave. Allie has to choose between Noah and her fiancé, Lon. The story then stops,
and leads back to the nursing home. The now older, yet sickly Allie miraculously begins to remember
that she was the girl from the story. A day later, Allie and Noah were found dead in the same bed
holding hands.

Health Disparities Within Dekalb County
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to provide insight on health disparities seen within DeKalb
County. The residents of DeKalb County are diverse in race, ethnicity, and income. Since the county is
so diverse there are many health disparities seen amongst its residents. Health disparities occur within
a county when one group of a population has noticeably better or worse health than another group
within the same population. These groups of people can differ by income, education, sex, race,
location, and even sexual orientation. This Paper will discuss the health disparities that exist within
DeKalb County, and explain why these disparities exist from a historical, political and social aspect.
Furthermore, this paper will give background information on health outcomes from national, state, and
local epidemiological perspective in order to support the claims that disparities actually exist within
this county.

that the Eagles front office knew Nick would be ready if called upon. It was week 13, the Eagles were

Political Philosophy Of Niccolo Machiavelli
Niccolo Machiavelli, a banished political theorist once said, The first method for estimating the
intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him. Compared to the men around him,
Machiavelli has the most compelling political philosophy. Machiavelli certainly is a leading political
theorist who uses history and straight forwardness to prove his point. The Prince is filled with great
knowledge that has the ability to inspire the reader. Niccolo Machiavelli use of historical analysis,
realist attitude and brazen syntax are the driving forces that make his political philosophy so
compelling.
Machiavelli found it really important to study those that came before him. Machiavelli states, I have
been unable to find among my possessions anything which I hold so dear or esteem so highly as that
knowledge It is this knowledge and carefully analysis of history that makes his argument truly
compelling. Theorists before him like aristotle used observation and imagination in order to develop
their political theory s. But observation does not determine political success it is the careful analysis
and emulation of great leaders . Machiavelli proves this when he says , But as to exercise for the mind,
the prince ought to read history and study the actions of eminent men,...and above all, do as some
eminent men have done in the past,..so that when fortune changes she may find him prepared to resist

Imitation In Emerson s Self-Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson
In this essay, Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson, the author elaborates an unsuitable claim
towards a great man having independence within himself; however, in today s world it will not apply
because social media create a boundary for them to develop. Individuals tend not to follow their own
intuition, but they follow others thoughts and opinions. According to Forbes, a news source for
professionals, states Studies have found that the longer people mull over big decisions, the less
satisfied they are afterward. Furthermore, if a person uses their intuition, it will take them a long time
figuring out what they want. Sometimes a person s decision relies on others opinions instead of
making the decision in which they hold in their intuition. Many individuals perceive this as their gut
feeling. People can achieve a task faster if they stop thinking or ask for others opinions. For instance,
there could be many situations that a person needs reassurance from others they rely on others
opinions. Although, many adolescents use the past experience of someone close them so that they will
not make the same decisions as them in which it would not affect their lives. Professor Harold argues
persuasively of imitation: the same ability [can] exploited their model someone own mind. Imitation
can cause self awareness towards someone. It creates a model for someone to imitate and make it part
of their life . Many people use social media as a way they can find their true self.

Essay On Dc Motors
ABSTRACT Brushless permanent magnet DC motors are being manufactured and used increasingly
in everything from home appliances to automobiles due to their inherent advantages. The merits of
these motors could be enhanced further according to another design approach method which alters the
typically used winding parts for low to medium power range motors. This paper deals with the high
power brushless DC motor used for traction in a 48 V golf cart system. The stator is designed with
segment rectangular copper winding to maximize output power within its limited dimensions. In the
design process, the closed slot opening and slot pole combination are investigated and compared in
terms of efficiency and input current density. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With no windings on the rotor, they are not subjected to centrifugal forces, and because the windings
are supported by the housing, they can be cooled by conduction, requiring no airflow inside the motor
for cooling. This in turn means that the motor s internals can be entirely enclosed and protected from
dirt or other foreign matter. Brushless motor commutation can be implemented in software using a
microcontroller or computer, or may alternatively be implemented in analogue hardware or digital
firmware using an FPGA. Commutation with electronics instead of brushes allows for greater
flexibility and capabilities not available with brushed DC motors, including speed limiting, micro
stepped operation for slow and/or fine motion control, and a holding torque when stationary. 3.
COGGING TORQUE: Cogging torque of electrical motors is the torque due to the interaction

Bryson Tiller s A Walk In The Woods
The author of A Walk in the Woods, Bryson Tiller, tell his story about hiking the Appalachian trail. He
narrates his experience and what he went through with his friend Katz. He frequently takes a pause
from narrating though, and goes into giving information and statistics about the Appalachian Trail,
mostly about how it is not well taken care of. So, it is safe to say that a theme or purpose for him
writing this book is to make people see that nature needs to be protected. Nature is important for
everything and everyone, more than humans are important for nature since humans are the ones
slowly destroying it. He also mentions how after hiking he felt stronger and healthier. He is almost
thanking the trail for bringing him where he is now, and it comes back to the importance of taking care
of nature because people can feel revitalized after spending some time in it. Bryson describes the
Appalachian trail over the years and how it has changed, largely in a negative way due to the poor care
it has received from Forest Services. He mentioned the loss and extinction of trees in the trail. He
stated, In just over thirty years the American chestnut became a memory. The Appalachians lost four

Factors That Affect The Treatment Of Tina Depression
The purpose of this paper is to examine important misconceptions of psychopathology which could
impact the treatment of Tina depression. Discuss her symptoms of depression, intake interview, and
why the counselor s own perception of psychopathology is extremely important in the diagnostic
process (GCU, 2015). Make sure her family member knows about medications, treatments, referrals,
and any other special instructions (Wolters, 1999).

ANALYZING ONE S OWN BELIEFS 2 Negative symptoms may cause Tina to neglect herself
physically it is likely that the inactivity that marks this symptom cluster contributes to the poor
physical health and decreased her life expectancy. Evidence for optimal treatments is scarce. The
significant developments in pharmacological and psychosocial treatments for positive symptoms
achieved in the past decade have not yet been matched by progress in negative symptom treatment
(Buchanan 2007), there are indications that researchers are focusing him or her attention on treatments
for the negative symptom cluster (Hilary, el al, 2013).
DEPRESSIVE DISORDERS The clinical picture for depression can be complicated because of the
subjectivity that is possible in reporting depressive symptoms. Reported symptoms are clear and
depressed mood is the only sign note, the diagnosis of a depressive disorder seems most appropriate
(Dziegielewski, 2014). Careful attention should be given to properly assess any recurrent thoughts of
suicide. One rule to remember is that Tina is more likely to harm herself not in the throes of a
depressive episode but rather when the feelings of depressive episode begin to lift. The return to
energy gives the client the initiative to act on thoughts and feelings expressed. There is suicidal

The Lavon Affair Essay
The Lavon Affair was an Israeli covert operation in 1954 in which a sleeper cell of Jewish Egyptians
were given the task of planting and detonating bombs at different targets. The aim of the operation
was to put the blame on the Muslim Brotherhood and communists in Egypt. Israel hoped these attacks
would show western powers such as America, England, and France that the regime at the time ruled

Consumer Spending In The United States
American s are known for spending the money they do not have. Most people in the United States are
consumers that is the reason why Walmart is so successful. In August many people spent more money
than usual as personal spending, consumer consumption, and household consumption. People tend to
spend more money when supply decreases and therefore their demand increases. Many of these
individuals do not see the real expenditures they are making. These are the reasons why in August
household spending rose: First, personal spending which includes health care amongst other things,
advanced 0.4% in August (Sparshott, 2015). Credit cards may not be an ally for an individual because
they tend to swipe the card and end up with a big bill. Next, consumer spending may be influence by
the final sales every store in the U.S. presents. At the end, one spent more than expected. Consumer
spending may be a good thing for GDP but not for the individual. Many people need counseling on

try to negotiate with the consortium to agree on a valid contract. The content of contract, for example,

If one aligns oneself with another person, and the person whom he or she has partnered up with is a
difficult or stubborn person, it will make a difference in what they are trying to pursue. The people
with whom one aligns oneself with makes all the difference. This is proven in the relationships

being a cruel, harsh, and demanding businessman. Andrew decided he was going to leave Carnegie

During the Victorian era, which spanned from 1837 to 1901 under the reign of Queen Victoria, there
was a great growth in the industry and in prosperity for Great Britain, and coupled with this growth
was another in the social classes, particularly with an emphasis on the fine upper class. This growth of
focus on the upper class and subsequently the lack of focus on the poor lower class were brought to
the attention of author Charles Dickens, and he, one of many times, chronicles the ideals of social

This will attract more customers to rent from Enterprise because one they will help to contribute to
keep the environment clean and also because they have hybrid cars they will also be able to save
money because they will get more miles to the gallon. Political, Legal Politics also plays a major role
in factors that affect Enterprise. Two examples, one if there is a political upheaval in another country it
may cause oil prices to rise and second, if the government decided to raise taxes on cars. Both of these
situations would affect Enterprise because to compensate for these added costs they may have to
increase the cost of rentals and the demand for rentals will go down, as some consumers may not be
able to afford to rent a car. The company should be focused and aware of what is going on in the world
both locally and abroad so that if a situation occurs or they see where a situation could cause a threat
for them they have a system where they can use the price of one rental to offset the other so that
consumers will not have to pay that much more for a rental. Technological In the 21st century the

operations that confine thousands of animals in an enclosed location for feeding, breeding and

Narcissistic Behavior
There are two developments in the Western society that help in the rise of narcissistic behavior. The
first is that of the attention it takes for parents to reach that top of financial achievement in Western
society. While there are many parents who do a great job raising children, the careers that often can
bring such wealth take the parents away from the children and with the wealth and no guidance from
parents it is easier for children to develop such a narcissistic disorder. They can be spoiled at times and
other times be rejected this flip flop culture can lead to a lack of empathy and a need to feel grandiose
within themselves.
The second part of the growth narcissism would be the exaltation of celebrities. The range of
individuals whom are raised up to an almost godlike level in our society, is a horrifying thing. We
have gotten to a level of where we almost worship movie stars, musicians, athletes, and even
politicians. But in the last few years even more, with the developments of reality TV it is almost a
matter of luck or what kind of creative circumstance you can put yourself in that grants fame and
power. With all of these people being looked to as higher than the regular person, it is no surprise that

Essay about Controlling Adolescents Exposure to Violence...
The debate about violence in media, such as video games, has been going on for years now, however,
there is no definite answer on what to do about it. Should adolescents be able to differentiate between
video game fantasy violence and real life? Is it partially the parents fault for not controlling their
access to these games? Perhaps there is more to it than just the scientific side of things. Adolescents
should be able to differentiate violence in video games from real life and be able to recognize patterns
in gender role and age. In turn, adults should be held responsible for what the adolescents play by
controlling access to this media in the first place.

Researchers state that, the most frequently cited mechanism by which the games can result in
aggressive behavior is the social learning theory (Sherry 413). The researchers go on to argue that
since game players are rewarded for performing violent acts in the video games adolescents may
transfer this to the outside world. Another mechanism researchers cite for the effects of violent video
games is the general arousal method. This method says that the highly violent games provide the
arousal that is necessary to become more aggressive (Sherry 413). These arguments are valid and open
up the controversy on video game violence, which has been going on for years.
Video games have been a pan of American life since the 1970s (Bushman and Funk 1). Around the
late 1970s video games were becoming more advanced. This is around the time that the first violent
video game came out. Parents started to become concerned about the themes their children would
grasp from these games. However, it was not until 1992 with the release of Mortal Kombat (Capcom )
that the debate really escalated (Bushman and Funk 2). Researchers and gamers constantly collided
with each other over the effects of media on adolescents. With the advent of new graphics and newer
systems, video games have gotten much more violent. The new Mortal Kombat game, Mortal
Kombat: Deception (Capcom ) has modern graphics and bloodier fatalities. However, there are still

Japan s Identity And Cultural Identity
Harumi Befu is an Emeritus Professor of Anthropological Sciences in the School of Humanities and

research interests include the social and analysis aspects of Japan s globalisation, and analysis of
Japan s nationality and cultural identity. In his article Concepts of Japan, Japanese culture and the
Japanese , he discusses in a strong and unbiased method the reality of what Japan truly is. However,
despite the strength of his article there are the negatives, where he does not address any solutions to
the issues he raises. When most people think of Japan, it is the main and central island of Honshu,

Symbolism in The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas and Sur by...
Guin s Symbolic Meanings Symbolism is commonly used by authors that make short stories. Guin is a
prime example of how much symbolism is used in short stories such as The Ones Who Walk Away
from Omelas and Sur. In both of these stories Guin uses symbolism to show hidden meanings and
ideas. In The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas there is a perfect Utopian city, yet in this perfect
city there is a child locked in a broom closet and it is never let out. A few people leave the city when
they find out about the child, but most people stay. Furthermore, in Sur there is a group of girls that

With this in mind both the child in the broom closet and drooz are the two most important symbols in
The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas because they both help reveal the main theme of the story to
the readers. The third most important symbol in The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas is the colors
Guin uses to describe the city of Omelas. Guin uses green and gold the most to describe the city
Omelas and its citizens. She also uses red, silver, white, and dark blue to help describe the city of
Omelas. In The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas gold is used as a symbol for power and wealth,
while green is used as a symbol for energy. Correspondingly The horses wore no gear at all but a
halter without a bit. Their manes were braided with streamers of silver, gold, and green (Guin 1). As
one can see by this quote green and gold are obvious, yet important symbols. Green and gold as
symbols relate back to the citizens and the city of Omelas. Hence green and gold can lead the reader to
find many themes they would not think of without these two very important symbols. In Sur Guin uses
the weather as one of the main symbols. Throughout the whole story of Sur Guin is very descriptive
about the weather. For instance It was over cast, white weather, without shadows and without visible
horizon or any feature to break the level; there was nothing else at all (Guin 167). This quote shows

Duck Creek Watershed Essay
Background (1 ¶): What is the Duck Creek Watershed? What problems is it facing? What is being
done so far to remedy these problems? Who is working on this problem?
The Duck Creek watershed in Scott County, IA is currently facing high levels of Escherichia coli (E.
coli) bacteria contamination. This pollution has put the watershed on the impaired waters list for the
state of Iowa. The impaired waters list is a comprehensive list of every waterway in a state that has a
contamination problem according to EPA regulations (insert source for impaired waters explanation
EPA regulations). Much of the pollution that can be found in the Duck Creek watershed is coming
from nonpoint source (NPS) pollution. Nonpoint source pollution significantly contributes to the
deterioration of water quality due to the difficulty in identifying, assessing and controlling the sources
of this type of pollution (citation Wang). This pollution is caused by runoff moving over the land. It
picks up and carries away natural and human made pollutants, finally depositing them into lakes,
streams, rivers, wetlands and even our underground sources of drinking water (citation SCSWCD).

The Effect Of Heat On The Heat Essay
INTRODUCTION
Heat is a form of energy that is transferred between two substances at different temperatures. The flow
of the energy is from the object of higher temperature to the object of lower temperature. The heat is
measured in units of energy, usually calories or joules. Temperature on the other hand, is how cold or
hot an object is. The temperature is the average kinetic energy per molecule of a substance. This is
measured in degrees on the Celsius or Fahrenheit or in Kelvins. When heat is added to a substance, the
kinetic energy of individual particles increases, which makes them move faster resulting in a increase
in temperature. The more heat that is added per gram of substance, the greater the temperature change.
The relationship between the heat added, the mass of a substance, and the temperature change it
undergoes is known as the specific heat. An increase in internal energy is required to convert a solid to
a liquid,. Conversely, a reduction in internal energy can cause liquids to freeze or solidify. When heat
is added to a solid or a liquid, the temperature of the sample does not necessarily rise. During a phase
change, heat is added to the sample without an increase in temperature. Heat absorbed or released as
the result of a phase change is called latent heat. There is no temperature change during a phase
change, thus there is no change in the kinetic energy of the particles in the material. Latent heat is an

Rhetorical Analysis Of Arm Wrestling With My Father By...
Arm Wrestling with My Father Change is inevitable, and often leads to emotional repercussions. Brad
Manning expresses this idea in his coming to age essay Arm Wrestling with My Father, in which he
traces the evolution of his relationship with his father. Using rhetorical devices such as repetition,
selection of detail and analogy, Manning further proves his ambivalence towards his and his father s
impending roles reversals. Manning begins the essay by describing a regular arm wrestling match with
his father, and uses repetition while describing the match ...is what he always said...he would always
control the outcome...Dad would always win; I always had to lose (156). The repetition gives this
passage significance and makes it stand out, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several years later, after Manning has gone to college and his father has aged, Manning has an
epiphany. ...but it all became clearer to me one day this past January (158). This marks his total shift
of perspective towards his competition with his father. However, one day on a trip home, his father
challenges his to an arm wrestling match for old time s sake. The rising action leads to Manning
beating his father. For a slight moment, Manning feels accomplished, but then the emotion turns into
great remorse. Manning introduces an analogy to help the reader make a connection to Manning s
sentiment Arm wrestling my father was now like this, like hooking Big Joe, the fish that Lake
Quachita hold but you can never catch, and when you finally think you got him, you want to let him
go, cut the line, keep the legend alive (159). Manning gave this analogy to give the essay feeling; the
reader can really connect. What comes next is a total role shift between father and son. Manning
struggles with the fear of becoming his father s caretaker, a fear that can lead most adults feel
orphaned. Manning then returns to the synecdoche of the arm when recalling his father s protection
...to have overpowered the arm that protected me...knowing his arms are ready to catch me and keep
me safe (159). The longing of emotional love, at this point, switches to a new desire for his father to
be the strong protector he once was. However, his father leaves him at the airport with a hug, giving
Manning an emotional connection to take with him on his

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Employees
5.3 .2 Disadvantages
Apart from the advantages offered by captives, there are some factors that limit captive expected
performance.
These include:
Lack of market co operation.
Lack of adequate statistics.
Government control.
Insurance nationalism.
Tied up capital.
Reinsurance cost.
While companies form captives with the initial motive of underwriting its parent s risks, they are
likely to need the cooperation of the market. Sometime market co operation is very difficult to get,
especially in a very difficult insurance market environment where the possibility of creating a parent
company is either not available or it is possible only at exorbitant cost.
Also, if the risk being put into a captive is of an uninsurable nature ... Show more content on

The growth of captives has been gradual in the early stage until the 1960s, and 1970s, when a
substantial expansion took place. The growth may be seen as a clear evidence of the demand by
corporations and institutions for a greater level of cost efficiency and response to new problems of risk
management.
The coming of captives brought significant changes in the business environment of risk management
and even greater changes are envisaged to occur in the future. The changes captives brought along
have affected many including commercial insurers and reinsurers, government bodies, the operation of
insurance agents and brokers in the distribution systems for insurance. The effects are felt in the
competitive pressure experienced by the traditional insurance market brought about by captive
presence, which has brought about important underwriting changes among the commercial insurers.
The current method of rate making by commercial insurers is altered significantly because of the
growing importance of captive, since current rating classes now tend to be broad, permitting the
average insurer to operate in a fairly level and stable rate structure across industries. Thus, firms with
relatively favourable loss experience are contributing to losses of those with poorer experience.
Captives constituted a big threat for the conventional insurance because they have a lot going for
them. The traditional insurance market did not welcome captive movement because it saw the
movement as a threat to its share of the insurance market. They were made to accept captives when
they realised that many businesses were flourishing as a result of captive activities and they benefited
directly and indirect from those

Why Credit Unions Are Important Essay
A credit union is a nonprofit, member owned, money making cooperative whose members can borrow
from pooled deposits at low interest rates. This is so important to communities for several reasons.
Firstly, credit unions are much more personal to a community rather than stockholders or a corporate
owned bank. Credit unions also provide lower interest rates for people whom may not be in the best
situations. Lastly, a credit union helps a community grow bigger, better, and stronger. These are only a
few of the many reasons why credit union are important, not only to me but also to other members of
the community.
When I say that a credit union is more personal to a community than a stockholder or corporate owned
bank, I am trying that most people in small, rural towns similar to where I live everybody knows
everybody. When somebody around here goes into a store, nametags are not really needed. But, when
you have to travel to a large bank, the chances are that you won t know who you are dealing with. In a
smaller community like ours, people prefer to know who they re working with, especially when
borrowing a large amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interest rate is the portion of the loan charged to a borrower. The interest rate is usually expressed
as an Annual Percentage Rates or APR. A lower interest rate is better for a person receiving a loan
because you don t have to pay back a lot of money that you never got to use. That seems like common
sense, right? For example, people would rather pay a credit union s average APR of 2.64% than a bank
s traditional 4.78% APR. For example, say one has borrowed ten thousand dollars. At an APR of
2.64% for a one time payment is $10,264 versus a 4.78 % on a ten thousand dollar loan, which is
$10,478. That is over two hundred dollars more! Because a credit union is nonprofit, you don t pay
more than what you

Jebusites Research Paper
The Jebusites were a Canaanite tribe who built and lived in Jerusalem prior to its invasion by King
David. The Books of Kings state that Jerusalem was known as Jebus before this event. According to
some biblical chronologies, the city was overthrown by King David in 1003 BC or according to other
sources 869 BC. The Hebrew Bible describes the Jebusites as living in the mountains, besides
Jerusalem. (Numbers 13:29, Joshua 11:3) In Exodus, the good and large land, flowing with milk and
honey which was promised to Moses as the future home of the distressed Hebrew people included the
land of the Jebusites (Exodus 3:8). According to the Book of Joshua, Adonizedek led an alliance of
Jebusites, and the tribes from the neighboring cities of Jarmut, Lachish, Eglon and Hebron against
Joshua, (Joshua 10:1 3) but was soundly defeated, and killed. ... Show more content on

Judges 1:21 interprets the Jebusites as continuing to dwell at Jerusalem, within the territory otherwise
occupied by the Tribe of Benjamin. The Books of Kings state that once Jerusalem had become an
Israelite city, the surviving Jebusites were forced by Solomon to become serfs; though since some
archaeologists believe that the Israelites were simply an emergent tribe in Canaanite society, it is
possible that this is an etiological explanation for serfs than a historically accurate one. It is unknown
what ultimately became of these Jebusites, but it seems logical that they were taken in by the
Israelites. According to the Jebusite Hypothesis, however, the Jebusites persisted as inhabitants of
Jerusalem and comprised an important faction in the Kingdom of Judah, including such notables as
Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Bathsheba, the queen and mother of the next monarch,

Advantages And Disadvantage Of Passive Targets In...
Passive tags
Today, the passive tags are the simplest form of tags without any power source such as a battery, in
order to start communication with the reader. The passive tag gets its power from the radio waves
transmitted by the reader. The tag contains minimal information such as the unique tag ID and it can
be read at a range of ten to twenty feet away from the reader. Passive tags are cheaper to manufacture
and are mostly used in disposable items or they can also be used in asset management.
Radio frequency bands, the memory used inside the tag, antenna design etc. act as a factor to the cost
of passive tags. Passive tags operate at various frequencies ranging from low, high, ultra high to
microwave frequencies. The manufacturing of passive tags ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
These tags are more expensive than passive tags the reason being the internal hardware and the range
that they cover. The cost of the tags is based on the storage type, battery and the area that the tag can
cover.
Semi passive tags
Semi passive tags are a combination of active and passive tags. Even though they do not initiate the
communication with the reader, they contain batteries to respond back to the reader with its own
power. Such type of tags are useful in environments where continuous monitoring is required over
large areas.
Sometimes in order to save the battery life of the tag, the tags remain in the passive state and wait for
an activation signal from the reader. Once the signal is received, it uses its own battery power to
transmit the signals. Semi passive tags can also be connected to the sensors to store sensor
information.
To summarize passive tags are the most used tags if we can trade off with its major disadvantage: it
cannot cover longer ranges as in the case of active and semi passive

Political Philosophy, By Steven Cahn
In Steven Cahn s book, Political Philosophy, The Essential Texts, philosophers such as Socrates, Plato,
Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau created the circumstances to enable the fundamental
principals of philosophy and politics. These knowledgeable, astute and significant men have helped to
achieve the structure of our past and present democracy as well as a plan of action for the rights and
values that we as citizens can all relate to today. They are grounded in their thinking and tied together
as a whole in ideas and practices of politics, philosophy and humankind. Possessors of morals and
ethics reflected in their works have influenced current social interaction and the foundation of our
current practice of democracy in which we have relied upon this present day. For over a hundred
years, theorists have deliberated the nature of our species and the method of governing appropriately
to warrant the Commonwealth. Today in politics there is a palpable disunion about the useful role of
system and a sharp division regarding human nature.
The role of government and society s role individually had been critical topics of the philosophers.
Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle had their thoughts on the subject of fairness and the government.
Socrates was convinced that democracy was not a sensible form of government, in his opinion, the
electorate of the people was rough justice. Plato alleged that government ought only to have rulers

Advertising And Gloria Steinem s Sex, Lies, And Advertising
Advertisements are intended to make their audience feel remarkable if and only if they purchase what
is being publicized. In 2005, Dove launched a Real Beauty campaign in an effort to reassure women
of their physical beauty. The campaign featured women of all different shapes and sizes to connect
with each body type. However, this campaign would not be advantageous to both the consumers and
advertisers if the advertisers did not get their fair share. Gloria Steinem, author of Sex, Lies, and
Advertising, is strongly challenged by Dove s campaign by exemplifying how Ms., a magazine that
Gloria was co founder of, eliminated advertisements in order to maintain journalistic integrity.
However, Jennifer L. Pozner, author of Dove s Real Beauty Backlash, utterly supports Dove s Real
Beauty campaign by concurring with Dove s powerful message of confidence. Despite their opposing
views on advertisements, both women share a common ground: Advocating the empowerment of
women.
Browsing through a magazine, one finds oneself looking at nothing but ads. Not in Ms., a feminist
magazine conducted by one of the best known icons of the women s movement, Gloria Steinem.
Steinem worked whole heartedly in order to portray opposition towards advertisement. She vindicates
her opposition by claiming that, In any case, we do know it s the advertisers who are determining what
women are getting now (Steinem 199). Steinem highlights how advertisers have taken over magazines
entirely. They

Many things could result in amputations including gunshot wounds, infections, multiple breaks in a bone, injury, etc. Chloroform was used to sedate patients before surgery for an amputation. Most amputees would not go back into battle. Over 75% of the amputees survived surgery, which was a lot considering that medical knowledge wasn t that advanced since America had a mindset of war over medicine, at the time. Also, since there were so many amputations and almost all of the surgeons could do them, doctors were nicknamed sawbones . This pamphlet was a guide for a surgeon to perform an amputation. As most surgeons had very little medical training, this was completely necessary. More than 30,000 amputations were performed during the civil war, with a 23.4% mortality rate. Closing The Achievement Gap Through Administration Closing the Achievement Gap Through Administration Patrick Kegley Texas A M University Commerce Closing the Achievement Gap Through Administration Whether on the scale of a school district, a state, or the nation, achievement gaps exist. A primary channel through which principals can be expected to improve the quality of education is by raising the quality of teachers, either by improving the instruction provided by existing teachers or through teacher transitions that improve the caliber of the school s workforce (Branch, pg.4). A principal must be able to continually seek out professional development, to research best practices and new educational theories to support their staff and students. • 5. The Changes In Religion In The Communist Manifesto By Karl... For Karl Marx, the changes in religion ultimately reflect the changes happening in society, because the religious world is just a reflection of the real world. If this is the case here, the use of technology in a religious setting would make sense, as our technological world is ever expanding and will further benefit the people at the top of religious hierarchies. In terms of online for profit churches, Marx might argue that the market is driving the religious realm to cater to technological advances. Although people are able to be who they desire to be, justice continues to be ignored towards many groups of people all over the world. This act of denying their wrongs showed how changes in society could have happened, but since social stigmas are strong, people obscured themselves. Another example of people hiding themselves from the tension of change can be seen in the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Dolphus Raymond, a wealthy white man who lives with his black mistress and mulatto children, portrays a type of person who uses a different personality to mask himself. While talking to Scout, Dill, and Jem, Dolphus says, It ain t honest, but it s mighty helpful to folks. Secretly, Miss. Finch, I m not much of a drinker, but you see, they could never, never understand that I live like I do because that s the way I want to live (Lee 268). Pretending to be something else in a world that is judgmental is not hard for many people and it can or cannot affect the person. In this case, Dolphus does not mind hiding his true self because of the thoughts people would have towards him. After Scout questions him on why he would cry if he were younger, he replies, Cry about the simple hell people give other people without even thinking. Cry about the hell white people give colored people, without even stopping to think they re people too (Lee 269). Although it is ironic that Dolphus, a drunk minded person, would care about such a serious topic since he is not any different than people in society. Many individuals are very aware and hesitant of the judgement that could occur if they changed their morale or way of life; in turn prohibiting the chance for changes in society. There are also people that think that violence and fear will be the solution of the problem, but Gandhi made a difference by using his words. Everybody knows Gandhi because he used those non violent acts, like fasting to protest. For example, when he was thrown in jail, he fasted and eventually they let him out. The reason why they let him out was because they didn t want him to die. If he died, the British knew that would mean trouble for them. Individuals tend not to follow their own intuition, but they follow others thoughts and opinions. According to Forbes, a news source for professionals, states Studies have found that the longer people mull over big decisions, the less satisfied they are afterward. Sometimes a person s decision relies on others opinions instead of making the decision in which they hold in their intuition. Many individuals perceive this as their gut feeling. This paper deals with the high power brushless DC motor used for traction in a 48 V golf cart system. The first is that of the attention it takes for parents to reach that top of financial achievement in Western society. Perhaps there is more to it than just the scientific side of things. Adolescents should be able to differentiate violence in video games from real life and be able to recognize patterns in gender role and age. Researchers state that, the most frequently cited mechanism by which the games can result in aggressive behavior is the social learning theory (Sherry 413). The researchers go on to argue that since game players are rewarded for performing violent acts in the video games adolescents may transfer this to the outside world. Another mechanism researchers cite for the effects of violent video games is the general arousal method. This method says that the highly violent games provide the arousal that is necessary to become more aggressive (Sherry 413). These arguments are valid and open up the controversy on video game violence, which has been going on for years. Video games have been a pan of American life since the 1970s (Bushman and Funk 1). Around the late 1970s video games were becoming more advanced. This is around the time that the first violent video game came out. • 40. The Effect Of Heat On The Heat Essay INTRODUCTION Heat is a form of energy that is transferred between two substances at different temperatures. The flow of the energy is from the object of higher temperature to the object of lower temperature. The heat is measured in units of energy, usually calories or joules. Temperature on the other hand, is how cold or hot an object is. The temperature is the average kinetic energy per molecule of a substance. This is measured in degrees on the Celsius or Fahrenheit or in Kelvins. When heat is added to a substance, the kinetic energy of individual particles increases, which makes them move faster resulting in a increase in temperature. The more heat that is added per gram of substance, the greater the temperature change. The relationship between the heat added, the mass of a substance, and the temperature change it undergoes is known as the specific heat. An increase in internal energy is required to convert a solid to a liquid,. Conversely, a reduction in internal energy can cause liquids to freeze or solidify. When heat is added to a solid or a liquid, the temperature of the sample does not necessarily rise. During a phase change, heat is added to the sample without an increase in temperature. Heat absorbed or released as the result of a phase change is called latent heat. There is no temperature change during a phase change, thus there is no change in the kinetic energy of the particles in the material. Latent heat is an intensive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The growth of captives has been gradual in the early stage until the 1960s, and 1970s, when a substantial expansion took place. The growth may be seen as a clear evidence of the demand by corporations and institutions for a greater level of cost efficiency and response to new problems of risk management. The coming of captives brought significant changes in the business environment of risk management and even greater changes are envisaged to occur in the future. The changes captives brought along have affected many including commercial insurers and reinsurers, government bodies, the operation of insurance agents and brokers in the distribution systems for insurance. The effects are felt in the competitive pressure experienced by the traditional insurance market brought about by captive presence, which has brought about important underwriting changes among the commercial insurers. The current method of rate making by commercial insurers is altered significantly because of the growing importance of captive, since current rating classes now tend to be broad, permitting the average insurer to operate in a fairly level and stable rate structure across industries. Thus, firms with relatively favourable loss experience are contributing to losses of those with poorer experience. Captives constituted a big threat for the conventional insurance because they have a lot going for them. The traditional insurance market did not welcome captive movement because it saw the movement as a threat to its share of the insurance market. They were made to accept captives when they realised that many businesses were flourishing as a result of captive activities and they benefited directly and indirect from those ... • 43. Why Credit Unions Are Important Essay A credit union is a nonprofit, member owned, money making cooperative whose members can borrow from pooled deposits at low interest rates. This is so important to communities for several reasons. Firstly, credit unions are much more personal to a community rather than stockholders or a corporate owned bank. Credit unions also provide lower interest rates for people whom may not be in the best situations. Lastly, a credit union helps a community grow bigger, better, and stronger. These are only a few of the many reasons why credit union are important, not only to me but also to other members of the community. When I say that a credit union is more personal to a community than a stockholder or corporate owned bank, I am trying that most people in small, rural towns similar to where I live everybody knows everybody. When somebody around here goes into a store, nametags are not really needed. But, when you have to travel to a large bank, the chances are that you won t know who you are dealing with. In a smaller community like ours, people prefer to know who they re working with, especially when borrowing a large amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An interest rate is the portion of the loan charged to a borrower. The interest rate is usually expressed as an Annual Percentage Rates or APR. A lower interest rate is better for a person receiving a loan because you don t have to pay back a lot of money that you never got to use. That seems like common sense, right? For example, people would rather pay a credit union s average APR of 2.64% than a bank s traditional 4.78% APR. For example, say one has borrowed ten thousand dollars. At an APR of 2.64% for a one time payment is $10,264 versus a 4.78 % on a ten thousand dollar loan, which is $10,478. That is over two hundred dollars more! Because a credit union is nonprofit, you don t pay more than what you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Jebusites Research Paper The Jebusites were a Canaanite tribe who built and lived in Jerusalem prior to its invasion by King David. The Books of Kings state that Jerusalem was known as Jebus before this event. According to some biblical chronologies, the city was overthrown by King David in 1003 BC or according to other sources 869 BC. The Hebrew Bible describes the Jebusites as living in the mountains, besides Jerusalem. (Numbers 13:29, Joshua 11:3) In Exodus, the good and large land, flowing with milk and honey which was promised to Moses as the future home of the distressed Hebrew people included the land of the Jebusites (Exodus 3:8). According to the Book of Joshua, Adonizedek led an alliance of Jebusites, and the tribes from the neighboring cities of Jarmut, Lachish, Eglon and Hebron against Joshua, (Joshua 10:1 3) but was soundly defeated, and killed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Judges 1:21 interprets the Jebusites as continuing to dwell at Jerusalem, within the territory otherwise occupied by the Tribe of Benjamin. The Books of Kings state that once Jerusalem had become an Israelite city, the surviving Jebusites were forced by Solomon to become serfs; though since some archaeologists believe that the Israelites were simply an emergent tribe in Canaanite society, it is possible that this is an etiological explanation for serfs than a historically accurate one. It is unknown what ultimately became of these Jebusites, but it seems logical that they were taken in by the Israelites. According to the Jebusite Hypothesis, however, the Jebusites persisted as inhabitants of Jerusalem and comprised an important faction in the Kingdom of Judah, including such notables as Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Bathsheba, the queen and mother of the next monarch, ... • 45. Advantages And Disadvantage Of Passive Targets In... Passive tags Today, the passive tags are the simplest form of tags without any power source such as a battery, in order to start communication with the reader. The passive tag gets its power from the radio waves transmitted by the reader. The tag contains minimal information such as the unique tag ID and it can be read at a range of ten to twenty feet away from the reader. Passive tags are cheaper to manufacture and are mostly used in disposable items or they can also be used in asset management. Radio frequency bands, the memory used inside the tag, antenna design etc. act as a factor to the cost of passive tags. Passive tags operate at various frequencies ranging from low, high, ultra high to microwave frequencies. The manufacturing of passive tags ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These tags are more expensive than passive tags the reason being the internal hardware and the range that they cover. The cost of the tags is based on the storage type, battery and the area that the tag can cover. Semi passive tags Semi passive tags are a combination of active and passive tags. Even though they do not initiate the communication with the reader, they contain batteries to respond back to the reader with its own power. Such type of tags are useful in environments where continuous monitoring is required over large areas. Sometimes in order to save the battery life of the tag, the tags remain in the passive state and wait for an activation signal from the reader. Once the signal is received, it uses its own battery power to transmit the signals. Semi passive tags can also be connected to the sensors to store sensor information. To summarize passive tags are the most used tags if we can trade off with its major disadvantage: it cannot cover longer ranges as in the case of active and semi passive ... • 46. Political Philosophy, By Steven Cahn In Steven Cahn s book, Political Philosophy, The Essential Texts, philosophers such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau created the circumstances to enable the fundamental principals of philosophy and politics. These knowledgeable, astute and significant men have helped to achieve the structure of our past and present democracy as well as a plan of action for the rights and values that we as citizens can all relate to today. They are grounded in their thinking and tied together as a whole in ideas and practices of politics, philosophy and humankind. Possessors of morals and ethics reflected in their works have influenced current social interaction and the foundation of our current practice of democracy in which we have relied upon this present day. For over a hundred years, theorists have deliberated the nature of our species and the method of governing appropriately to warrant the Commonwealth. Today in politics there is a palpable disunion about the useful role of system and a sharp division regarding human nature. The role of government and society s role individually had been critical topics of the philosophers. Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle had their thoughts on the subject of fairness and the government. Socrates was convinced that democracy was not a sensible form of government, in his opinion, the electorate of the people was rough justice. Plato alleged that government ought only to have rulers with the intelligence and education ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Advertising And Gloria Steinem s Sex, Lies, And Advertising Advertisements are intended to make their audience feel remarkable if and only if they purchase what is being publicized. In 2005, Dove launched a Real Beauty campaign in an effort to reassure women of their physical beauty. The campaign featured women of all different shapes and sizes to connect with each body type. However, this campaign would not be advantageous to both the consumers and advertisers if the advertisers did not get their fair share. Gloria Steinem, author of Sex, Lies, and Advertising, is strongly challenged by Dove s campaign by exemplifying how Ms., a magazine that Gloria was co founder of, eliminated advertisements in order to maintain journalistic integrity. However, Jennifer L. Pozner, author of Dove s Real Beauty Backlash, utterly supports Dove s Real Beauty campaign by concurring with Dove s powerful message of confidence. Despite their opposing views on advertisements, both women share a common ground: Advocating the empowerment of women. Browsing through a magazine, one finds oneself looking at nothing but ads. Not in Ms., a feminist magazine conducted by one of the best known icons of the women s movement, Gloria Steinem. Steinem worked whole heartedly in order to portray opposition towards advertisement. She vindicates her opposition by claiming that, In any case, we do know it s the advertisers who are determining what women are getting now (Steinem 199). Steinem highlights how advertisers have taken over magazines entirely. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
