Increase Proportion Of Nurses With Baccalaureate Degree
Increase proportion of nurses with baccalaureate degree by 2020 If one can stop for a few minutes and
imagine a doctor s office, a hospital, and a nursing home without nurses, you can easily see the
important role that a nurse plays in society. It s not far fetched to believe that fewer nurses can shorten
our lifespan. Imagine a hospital stay or a surgery without nurses. Imagine your chances of infection
and a successful recovery without the constant care that nurses provide in the absence of the doctor
and in many cases, in the presence of the doctor. For acute care patients fewer or no nurses can be a
matter of life and death. Nurses take pride in the practice of their profession they care for people, not
the medical condition. They are passionate about patient advocacy, support reform of the health
delivery system and go the extra mile when patient care appears endless. When the Institute of
Medicine (IOM) released its 2010 report, The Future of Nursing, Leading Change, and Advancing
Health, many nurses felt affirmed by the spotlight this prestigious group placed on nursing. The reality
is the newly designed healthcare requirements by President Obama will lead to millions of previously
uninsured Americans needing care that nurses can provide. These growing demands lend themselves
to different types of care providers under the nursing umbrella. There are: LPNs, nursing assistants,
RNs with associate degrees, baccalaureate and master degrees, nurse practitioners,

Alternative Energy And Renewable Energy
Throughout the 20th and 21st century, our knowledge about the environment and energy has steadily
grown, as well as our dependence on them. Nowadays, power and electricity are in every facet of our
daily lives. Due to this, we overlook several negative effects our traditional use of fossil fuels have
caused. Fossil fuels are fuel deposits that were formed hundreds of millions of years ago, which is
where the term fossil fuels come from. The two most common fossil fuels currently in use are coal and
oil, which power the majority of our infrastructure. However, fossil fuels are known to have some
drawbacks which is where projects for alternative energy come into play. Alternative energy, or also
known as renewable energy are energy sources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fossil fuels are already a widely established in the current market place. There is no need for big
technology innovations or research breakthroughs, since it is already a commonplace energy
commodity. The current job market which involves fossil fuels such as oil and coal are huge. IHS
Global Insights claims that by 2020 around three million jobs in America will be involving oil and gas
extraction. The processing of these fuels also does create useful byproducts, like plastics. While these
are a few advantages, there is sadly many more pressing disadvantages. (ConserveEnergyFuture) The
burning and processing of fossil fuels release high levels of carbon dioxide into the air. This heavily
contributes to a climate phenomenon known as Global Warming , which is considered one of the
greatest humanitarian crises of our time. As previously stated, fossil fuels are nonrenewable. This puts
a hard cap on the amount we can eventually use, which means there is a finite supply. Fossil fuels are
generally located deep in the earth, and the process of mining them are extremely harmful for the
environment. Coal mining heavily affects the areas where it is mined, due to the location of nearby
materials. Coal is often found beside highly acidic substances, so after mining is completed the only
material left in the area is acidic, which destroys the land. Coal and oil production facilities also
produce liquid slag which is

The Role Of Large Corporations Under Repressive Regime
What is the role of large corporations under repressive regime? Do they engage in criminal activities?
If yes, how should they be included in a process of transitional justice? The purpose of this work is to
establish the links between the business world and transitional justice mechanisms. My purpose is
more specifically to link the potential crimes perpetrated by corporations and the transitional justice
mechanisms. This work does not link the transitional justice field to a defined field of research.
Corporate responsibility or accountability is a concept coming from law and business literature. For
the United Nations, transitional justice is the full range of processes and mechanisms associated with a
society s attempt to come to terms with a legacy of large scale past abuses, in order to ensure
accountability, serve justice and achieve reconciliation. The vast majority of the literature discussing
transitional justice focuses on individuals or states, not collective organizations. Mechanisms of
transitional justice are fourfold and include: a justice process, a reparation process, a truth process and
a stabilization process. All these 4 processes are studied as either applying to individuals or state.
However, in many cases the responsibility of individuals is related to the collective responsibility of a
group or an organization other than the state. The objective of this work is to try to connect the role of
businesses and transitional justice mechanisms. The

Greenwashing in Media Essay
Research ProjectGreenwashing in Media In this day and age companies have mastered the technique
of misleading customers by fabricating false claims about a green product or service that they swear to
provide. This insincere display of information is called Greenwashing , a spin off of Whitewashing .
Greenwashing could be said to be a global phenomenon and it s commonly seen in advertisements, on
products packing, websites, emails, speeches, and videos (just to name a few). Greenwashing is a
thought out process, a planned and typically well designed campaign. There is a wide range of reasons
why companies are eager to partake in greenwashing; divert attention for regulatory change, to

On your weekly trip to the supermarket it s easy to find a number of products, from coffee to
dishwashing soap, that flaunt their green attributes (American Psychological Association, 2010). With
such rumors of greenwashing, consumers are more confused than ever. However, some consumers
know the tricks and are coming to find that there are companies whose marketing practices are legit,
not exaggerated or deceiving. APA also found that, people are willing to spend more of their hard
earned green on green products, according to a 2008 survey of 9,000 adults performed by the global
business firm Boston Consulting Group (American Psychological Association, 2010). Consumers who
are willing to pay more for a product or service are assuming that they are purchasing a healthier,
safer, and better quality product or service for the environment. Unfortunately there are consequences
that arise when a consumer has been greenwashed. These consequences are that consumers ultimately
spend more money on products that they believe stand true, and when purchasing these products the
consumer is supporting companies that are harming the environment. Downing et al. states that,
learning how to read advertising critically thus provides individuals with important tools for
interpreting contemporary American culture and avoiding manipulation. Ads are complex texts, the

Jaws Film Techniques
Jaws (1975)
Media Coursework
Peter Benchley wrote Jaws the novel before it was made into a film directed by Steven Spielberg.
Jaws is a thriller/horror with the main aim being to build up suspense and tension. When making the
film Jaws Steven Spielberg had to face the challenging task of translating Benchley s popular novel
into a hit movie whilst still maintaining the suspense created through the many textual devices used by
Benchley, such as language techniques and sentence structure. Spielberg managed use different
camera angles and shots alongside lighting effects to create atmosphere and tension to pretty much the
same effect. In the background he uses music and sound effects to add to the dramatic visual images

Another interesting point is as Chrissie is removing her clothes while running it is almost as she is
leaving herself exposed to potential danger and making herself more vulnerable. At this point as the
viewer sees Chrissie isolated in the water they realise that she is facing danger only limited by their
own imagination.
As Chrissie continues swimming, the frame changes to a point of view shot, accompanied by the same
music as in the opening shot. The audience s thoughts change immediately from the images of the
cheerful beach party to the earlier reference of the shark in the opening sequence. This provides a very
effective contrast. The audience s expectations are realised when Chrissie feels a sharp pain, and then
begins splashing about in the water as she is attacked.
The unseen shark thrashes her around in the water, and she eventually clings onto a buoy, making its
bell ring, in a vain attempt to alert the nearby community. After a final grasp for breath, she finally
disappears under the surface of the water leaving the viewers with the burden of her death.
The second victim of the shark is a young boy named Alex, this time the scene is set in along the
beach, crowded with people enjoying the long Independence Day holiday. Also on the beach is police
chief Brody with his own family. Sunbathers lie on the packed beach. This is a very unlikely place and
time for an eventful scene. Again the

to take pictures of the firearm. The second step is to take measurements and pictures of the firearm.
The third step is to pick up the firearm while wearing gloves. The fourth step is to secure the firearm
by turning on the safety, if there is one. The fifth step is to remove the ammunition, or bullets left in
the firearm. The sixth step is to place the unused ammunition or bullets into a paper bag, label and seal

The Crystal Frontier By Carlos Fuentes
In The Crystal Frontier, Carlos Fuentes presents two of his main characters in much a similar fashion;
in Spoils, we find Dionisio is a world renowned chef and cuisine connoisseur, and also a fervent critic
of American cuisine and culture. Dionisio believes that through his country s chromosomal
imperialism, Mexico will be able to solidify its sphere of influence in America; however, when he
travels to the United States, he indulges in the same institutions that he ridicules when he lives in
Mexico. Similarly, in Pain we encounter the young and aspiring doctor, Juan Zamora. Zamora is an
ambitious student who travels to the United States to further his education and learns that successful
networking is the way to get ahead in American society. Zamora and Dionisio are both functions of
their environment. When they are living in America, they are exhibiting an innate interconnectedness
with society, and when they live in Mexico quite the opposite; Zamora and Dionisio display traditional
attributes which are stereotypical to that of the Mexican who lives in solitude. This essay will seek to
dissect each character and describe how each utilizes his own respective Mexican Mask to acquire
what he truly desires, and it will describe how each character s personality fluctuates simply due to
where he is geographically located. Dionisio believes that through Mexico s chromosomal imperialism
his country will endure and even spread its cultural influence in the United States

The On Balancing The Environment
Balancing the Environment Does the implementation of government policies in order to decrease
negative environmental effects violate individual rights? Immanuel Kant one of the most recognized
names in deontological theory proposed a theory that is based on determining if you are using
someone or something as a means or an end. In essence stating that in order for a decision to be made
one must take into account whether a person is being manipulated against their consent or they are
being foster towards an equally beneficial end (O Neill, 1993). One could say it is everyone s duty to
push the government to introduce policies to decrease negative environmental impacts in order to
sustain a healthy and inhabitable environment for the future. Yet this raises the question, how does one
determine this is their duty and is this being forced against one s will with no substantial benefit?
While others may argue that to protect the planet is the duty of all people. The term deontology comes
from the Greek word deon, meaning duty. The theory of deontology states we are morally obligated to
act in accordance with a certain set of principles and rules regardless of outcome (Shakil, n.a).
Immanuel Kant expanded on this theory and introduced what has come to be known as Kantian
Deontology. Kantian Deontology proposes, no one rational or autonomous creature should be treated
as mere means for the enjoyment or even the happiness of another. (O Neil, 1993). Therefore, no

A Comparison of Realism in Uncle Vanya and A Doll s House...
Realism in Uncle Vanya and A Doll s House
A play serves as the author s tool for critiquing society. One rarely encounters the ability to transcend
accepted social beliefs. These plays reflect controversial issues that the audience can relate to because
they interact in the same situations every day. As late nineteenth century playwrights point out the
flaws of mankind they also provide an answer to the controversy. Unknowingly the hero or heroine
solves the problem at the end of the play and indirectly sends a message to the audience on how to
solve their own problem.
Henrik Ibsen and Anton Chekov both provide unique analysis on issues their culture never thought as
wrong. In the play A Doll s House Ibsen tackles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She believes that her forgery is justified through her motive. She is not a criminal like Krogstad
because his crime was simply a moral failing and not for the good of his family. A morally unjustified
crime is the only type of crime. Nora s believes that her love for her husband is what propelled her to
sign her father s name and pass it off as his own. Nora s motive is to save her husband s life and
keeping it secret is to save him from pain and humiliation. If he knew, it would hurt his manly
independence (p. 22) and upset Nora and Torvald s mutual relations (p.22). Nora knows that without
forging her father s signature she would not be able to save her husband. Nora uses her wit to find a
way to be able to overcome the shackles placed on her by society and get enough money to save
Torvald s life.
In Uncle Vanya Chekov ends the play with Sonya and Uncle Vanya returning to their normal lifestyle
and forgetting about the upset Serebryakov and Elena s presence creates. Sonya protests that she and
her uncle will bear patiently bear the trials fate sends (Chekov p. 230) and work for others (p. 230).
Sonya sacrifices her own happiness for that of her father and stepmother. Sonya exudes every positive
trait that society contains. She sacrifices her life to work for her father without questioning his motives
for leaving. She dedicates herself to her family and overlooks their flaws to help them. Sonya, Uncle

Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own Essay
Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own
Missing works cited
In A Room of One s Own, Virginia Woolf ponders the plight of women throughout history. Woolf
reads the lives of women and concludes that if a woman were to have written she would have had to
overcome enormous circumstances (Woolf xi). Woolf s initial thesis is that a woman must have money
and a room of her own if she is to write fiction (Woolf 4). Throughout the book, however, she
develops other important conditions for artistic creation. Woolf mentions many nineteenth century
female writers in order to explain these conditions, but she does not mention Mary
Shelley. Woolf most likely excludes the author of Frankenstein because her writing contains

Rejection and discouragement from family, friends, and society fills her life. Because the world will
not permit the expression of her genius, she eventually commits suicide. Woolf argues that like ?
Shakespeare?s sister,? any woman ?born with a gift for poetry in the sixteenth century was an
unhappy woman, a woman at strife against herself? (Woolf 50). Although the circumstances of female
writers greatly improve over the next 300 years, Woolf finds that ?even in the nineteenth century a
woman was not encouraged to be an artist. On the contrary, she was snubbed, slapped, lectured and
exhorted? (Woolf 55). Despite the great odds against her, a few women managed to disregard their
discouraging environments and write successfully. The conditions that they overcame amaze Woolf: ?
What genius, what integrity it must have required in face of all that criticism, in the midst of that
purely patriarchal society to hold fast to the thing as they saw it without shrinking? (Woolf 74).
Unlike most nineteenth century female writers, Mary Shelley is supported in her intellectual pursuits
throughout her life. Although society discourages female writers, her family surrounds her with
constant encouragement. Shelley comes from a background of famous radical writers. The political
and moral writings of her father, William Godwin, are extremely influential during the time. Her
feminist mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, writes the controversial book, A

The Federal Emergency Management Agency
The Rise and Fall of Legitimacy: A Review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
from 1979 to 2005
Introduction
Legitimacy is the lifeblood of an organization. With conflict and competition a clear winner is
considered legitimate. Cooperation, however, offers the potential for legitimacy for multiple parties. A
legitimate organization has authority based on being representative, accountable, responsible,
effectiveness, efficiency, minimal interference from political pressure, and established rules. Rules
provide a rational foundation for procedures and operations. Administrative decisions grounded in
established rules are the basis of a legal rational authority and ensure that decisions are not biased or
influenced. Weber (1922) and Stillman (1998) identify the application of established, impersonal rules
and procedures as an important characteristic of an organization and crucial to a legitimate authority.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has seen a rise and fall regarding its view of
legitimacy between the years of 1979 and 2005. FEMA carried a reputation for a lack of legitimacy
for nearly two decades. Strong leadership and a new approach led to an increased respect and view of
legitimacy by the public. However, this was short lived. This paper will discuss the significant
contributing factor leading to FEMA s return to a lack of legitimacy in the response to Hurricane
Katrina.

Identifying My Area Of Student Growth Since Undertaking...
My essay will outline the journey of identifying my area of student growth since undertaking this
Bachelor of Dementia Care degree and introductory units. Academic achievements, typically are
based on examination or assessment marks. As Cottrell (2013, pp. 12 13) shows, a quiz can identify
and evaluate a measurement of achievement particularly of a new student. I will endeavour to show,
with the use of differing methods or tools of measurement, they act as a catalyst to improve or impede
my academic development. Additionally, I will discuss examples and explain how I can apply the
outcomes of my development.
It has been thirty years since I completed by Higher School Certificate, receiving a mark measuring
my ability to recall prior years of secondary study. So, as I commence university to attain my degree,
how will I manage study, work and family commitments? Do I have the skills to undertake this so late
in my life? (Vivekananda Shores, 1996, p.10). Overwhelmed and anxious about what I had committed
myself to, the initial exhilaration of enrolling as a university student was replaced with anxiety.
Scanning through discussion boards provided affirmation of the anxieties I experienced. The Feedback
I received from one participant responded I feel that self doubt too (M. Bancroft, personal
communication, March 3, 2016) (Appendix A) this alerted me to an opportunity to abate my anxiety,
but also provided me with a tool to test my strategies and ideas.

Me Knife Diamond And Flower Analysis
A piece of art I really liked at the El Paso Art Museum was Me, Knife, Diamond and Flower created
by James Surles in 1999. This piece is three dimensional and made out of pine, poplar and fabricated
stainless steel. The first thing I noticed was the big knife so immediately I was drawn to go see what it
was all about. I found it be very expressive because it definitely made me feel a little creeped out that
there was a knife, leaving me to wonder if this was about a murder, or trying to tell a story of some
kind. The woodcut flower and knife I think was a great touch to the piece so it differentiates them
from the diamond and the face. The composition of this art piece shows depth with the face and
diamond up front, to the knife behind it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was another three dimensional piece of work that caught my eye, but not for its beauty. This
piece stood out because it was hideous and dull. The first thought that came into my mind was what
the hell is that? I am not too sure if this it was supposed to be a witch s hat or a limbless and leafless
tree but is ugly. This piece had a lot of texture ranging from very smooth looking to extremely bumpy
which I did not feel was appealing whatsoever. It looked like someone just starting hitting it from to
create dimples. There was no real pattern, repetition or rhythm to the texture. The higher you looked
up on the piece, the more texture that appeared in the surface. The bottom of the sculpture had a lot
more smoother and finer texture to it. I saw this piece just shortly after I saw Me, Knife, Diamond and
Flower which really had my mind stimulated in a positive manner and then I stumbled across this
piece which changed my mood almost instantly. I was sad to see such an emotionless piece right after
seeing James Surles and I felt like I wasted time in my life just staring at it. I decided to Google what
Rolo meant and in Latin America it means stick. In no shape or form do I see a stick in the artwork. I
would assume that it is not supposed to portray a stick and am left to wonder what it could. Is it
supposed to represent something? Is it symbolic? I can honestly not tell you for sure as there is little

Critique Of Death Of A Salesman
Death of a Salesman is a story of a man who wants to be a successful businessman and dreams of the
same thing for his sons. The story goes on to explain how Loman s hard work does not pay. In other
words, today s society is filled with people who do not get the credit they deserve for the little things
they do in life. Loman is an example of 20th century people who resort to illusion in order to gain
some dignity. The author, Arthur Miller, tells the story of a sales man who faces the end of his life
without fulfilling his idealistic ambitions.
For a hard work he puts in, he does not get appreciate it for. For instance, Loman would drive 700
miles to work and come home without even earing a cent. He had to borrow money from Charley, his
next door neighbour, just to provide food on the table so that he could provide a future for his sons. I

Loman Willy is low man. No great hero, he is already so low on the ladder that he has hardly
anywhere to fall. I believe, the meaning of names has a lot of impact on one s life. In this case, Loman
tried to be best in life but was never successful. Even his death could not bring satisfaction for his
family since his other suicide attempts would not let the insurance company pay the family money.
While reading about death of a salesman I believe this is biographical criticism. Since at that time the
American society was evolving in to what is known as 1950 s traditional family structure. Another
reason as it is biographical criticisms is because the author is alluding to his struggles through a
character called Willy Loman. The author is taking about the time when the family had to go through
great Depression when then family was facing financial hardship. The author, Arthur Miller, is
narrating his life and psychological problems during his teen

Differences And Disadvantages Of Standardization Vs....
2.3.1 Standardization vs. customization On one hand, standardization represents a way of reducing the
costs, increasing productivity, lowering the prices and systemizing innovations so that they can be
reproduced (Sundbo, 1996; Gallouj, 1994; Sundbo 1998, cited in Sundbo, 2002). Customization on
the other hand, increases the customer satisfaction ensuring the perceived quality, creates
opportunities for rising the price. Furthermore it enables innovation to take place near the customer,
which offers a great possibility to succeed on the market. The traditional economic theory highlights
productivity gains as being the essence of any economic activity, implying economies of scale and
cost reduction, while the theories of service development stress the importance of customer care in
service activities, not reducing the costs (Normann, 1991; Gronroos 1990, cited Sundbo, 2002).

China s Act For The Internationalization Goal Of Renminbi
The definition of international and reserve currency is a common currency unit which is used to settle

Essay on Counterfeit Items Cause Economic Damage
Everyone has seen the sidewalk vendor hawking a too good to be true designer handbag. The clues to
counterfeit luxury items used to be so obvious that most people knew exactly what they were buying.
This sadly is no longer the case. The production of counterfeit items causes American manufactures to
suffer about $200 billion in losses each year according to the International AntiCounterfeiting
Coalition (Freedman, 1999). A large part of counterfeited items are fashion goods. They are usually
easily recognizable, especially at the designer or luxury end of the market. The more exclusive a brand
is, the more likely it is to be counterfeited (Lai Zaichkowsky, 1999). As these goods are also high
value, there is considerable profit to be made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that almost anything can be faked, counterfeiting is becoming a huge economic issue. Many
businesses are losing customers because they are not able to spot counterfeit items. Customers are
doing more and more shopping on the Internet for convenience and lower prices rather than shopping
at their local trusted retailer.
Customers are buying merchandise without knowing the seller or their reputation (McCausland,
2010). The shopper who would never have considered buying from the guy on the corner whispering,
Pssst! Want to buy a watch? can easily be fooled by a website that looks genuine but isn t, says Susan
Scafidi, a law professor at Fordham Univeristy (McCausland, 2010). Some websites are even very
open about the fact that they sell counterfeit merchandise. They label their designer knockoffs as
replicas or inspired by the original designer (Freedman, 1999). The shoppers who do not realize that
they are buying counterfeit goods or who are knowingly buying counterfeit goods will continue to
purchase these items from counterfeiters because they are cheaper than buying the real thing.
The customers who are knowingly purchasing fakes are contributing to the reduced profitability of
legitimate businesses. These sales have driven companies out of business completely or they have
been forced to significantly scale back their operations.
Globalized production is another factor that

The And The Colonists Of The Americas
The original motivations for the Spaniards going to the New World were to spread Christianity and
grow wealthy; however, when they arrived, the actions of the Spaniards against the natives of the
Americas did not reflect these original goals and led to unanticipated consequences. One such
unexpected consequence was a reliance on slave labor. In order to accomplish the work necessary to
make the profits that the Spaniards had expected, they turned to the natives as a work force. This need
for laborers led the Spanish to enslave the natives, which led to conflict and cruelty, which went
against the initial goal of spreading Christianity; if the prospective converts are being mistreated by
those hoping to do the converting, the conversion itself becomes much more difficult due to the
negative relationship. The Spaniards strongly believed that it was their sacred duty to save the
faithless natives of the Americas by introducing them to God, and so they did all they could to see this
happen, despite the negative impacts on the relationship between the natives and the Spaniards. This
also made it more difficult to easily exploit the resources of the region against the wishes of the
natives, because the growing bitterness between the Spanish and the natives made it impossible to
successfully work together in an economic setting in the same way as the Dutch and the French. Thus,
the actions of the Spaniards upon reaching the New World worked mostly against their original goals

Lyell s Allegory
When Lyell s substantive complaint to clear and canny catastrophism, its perceived that the genuine
verbal confrontation was not doctrine versus hands on work, but rather a contention between
adversary empirics established in the topic of this book a contention of allegory between time s cycle
and time s bolt. Lyell was not the white knight of truth and hands on work, but rather a purveyor of a
captivating and specific hypothesis established in the consistent condition of time s cycle. Along these
lines, we can t comprehend the significance of time s bolt and time s cycle in setting up our
perspective of time and process until we get through this most encompassing of all cardboard

Indi The Architecture Of Community
1. Introduction
A City is not an accident but the result of coherent vision and aims.
Leon Krier, The Architecture of Community
India is moving towards fast paced economic growth. After India entered Open Market Operations
under the leadership of Prime Minister P.V. Narsimha Rao, economic policies endured lots of
opportunities for foreign direct investment further offering people new windows of employment and
growth of the nation overall. In the reports of McKinsey s India s Urban awakening, it has been
mentioned that many countries are facing problems of aging population whereas India comparatively
has a young and growing population which is a potential demographic advantage . For this advantage
to work wonders, India needs urban centers with better transportation, infrastructural facilities and
housing. In the very same report of McKinsey, it said that the urban economy will provide 85 percent
of total revenue, which will finance development nationwide . Thus report of McKinsey indirectly
states that cities are the engines of growth, hence with better transportation system and infrastructure
the urban development will enhance at a faster pace.
Public transportation takes a special place in city s smooth functioning, since it offers mobility and
access to people in accomplishing their daily tasks. Technological advancement and rise in incomes
have made people to rely more on private mode of transport due to poor services by public transport
agencies in India.

Nichole Heath Research Paper
Growing up in a small town in Western Nebraska Nichole Heath was a very hard working and
ambitious person. Starting her senior year in High School Nichole was not sure where her future was
going to take her. Softball was her priority growing up and she knew she couldn t rely on it to carry
her through life so she needed to come up with a good plan that would help set her up for the future
she was about to embark on. After long hard thought Nichole Heath decided she would take the time
to look into the military.
Her brother Chris Heath had recently joined the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Poke,

Once she arrived the Navy office was currently closed. A bit confused, Nichole looked around and
found a few pamphlets about the Navy to read when a gentleman popped his head out of an office and
asked if he could assist her. It was the Air Force recruiter. SSgt Troxell introduced himself and asked if
she had a minute. With the Navy office closed she figured why not. It was the Army and she had
plenty of time to spare.
After speaking with SSGT Troxell about what the Air Force had to offer and what types of jobs they
had, Nichole had made her mind up. She knew she wanted to have a job that she could use her hands
and mechanical abilities, so she chose to become a jet engine mechanic. It was a great feeling to have
a clear vision of my future, and knowing I had set myself up for success the beginning of my senior
year. (Foe, 2009) Nichole planned on spending the summer at home visiting family after graduation,

A Biographical Film Milk By Van Gus Sant
Milk is a Biographical Film, directed by Van Gus Sant, and released on October 28, 2008. It is based
on gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk. The film starts off with an old footage of police
raiding gay bars and arresting patrons during the 50s and 60s, which is then followed by Dianne
Feinstein s announcement stating that Harvey Milk, who is played by Sean Penn, and Mayor George
Moscone, played by Victor Garber, had been assassinated. Harvey starts out in San Francisco s Castro
district as a small business owner who witnesses the pursuit of gay men and becomes a strong
proponent for LGBT rights. Homosexuals were often beaten up and harassed in the streets, this pushed

Teresa And The Acquisition Of Virtue
In the pages recounting her life, the sixteenth century Carmelite nun Saint Teresa of Ávila provides a
specific view regarding how virtue is a gift granted by God that must be fostered through a Christian s
actions and community, a gift that is tested by corresponding vices. To Teresa, vices simply amount to
twisted virtues. Teresa casts God as the . . . true Virtue, from which all virtues spring . . . and,
convexly, casts the human race as distanced from God, and therefore, distanced from virtue (Teresa
99, 58). In order to acquire virtue, God s grace is critical and all efforts are useless without it (92).
Instead of Christians sowing virtues, Teresa states that God alone plants virtues within His followers
(118). Once planted, it is up to each individual to foster each virtue, lest it be taken away. According to
Teresa, the development of each virtue represents a long journey (263). The fully grown tree also must
be protected, as the individual must take care, to not permit worms, sent by the devil, to ravage the
tree (230). Virtues, in fact, equate to splendid jewels to be taken away if their bearer forgets to polish
and display them (73).
Teresa further argues the ability to nurture any virtue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She outlines the four ways to water God s garden: draw water from the well by hand, draw water from
the well with the help of a windlass, use a river or stream, or receive heavy rain (78). The first three
methods require work, but the last is purely God s wish to multiply the virtues within a person (83).
God may see some need for this non Christian, whom he still loves, to have this character trait in order
to fulfill God s plan or purpose. This could explain the capacity for some amount of pure virtue within

Symbolism In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Zora Neale Hurston s short story, Sweat effectively shows an African American woman overcoming
her abusive husband. In Sweat, the antagonist, Sykes abuses his wife, Delia emotionally and
physically. The protagonist, Delia overcomes her fear of her husband by letting her anger build up
inside until she finally no longer cares about her husband s well being. By the end of the story, Delia s
pint up anger results in her watching her husband die even though she could save him. Symbolism
plays a major role in Sweat. The clothing symbolizes Delia s purity but when Sykes messes up the
clothes it symbolizes the mess that he makes of their marriage. The snake symbolizes Sykes. The
Chinaberry tree symbolizes peace. Each symbol contributes to the ... Show more content on

the Bible, Sykes tricks Delia everyday to make her miserable and please himself. When Sykes cheats

Paul s Letter For The Romans
Paul s letter to the Romans is special in many ways. It has provided the church with such theological
doctrine. Within its long text, Paul assures equal judgment by God as well as equal chances to pursue
righteousness to God. Paul addresses the debacle of Israel and the implications of that on the Gentiles.
Paul looks to the Roman house churches and tackles possible issues within their context. Paul
encourages the Romans to respect and not resist governing authorities. One topic Paul does not touch
explicitly is the role of women in the church, but implicitly Paul speaks volumes about women within
the church. In chapter 16, Paul commends and greets several women. His language gives strong clues
to the state of women in the ministry of the early church. This paper will explore the way Paul
commends and greets Phoebe, Prisca, Mary, and Junia and the implications of those greetings to reach
beyond the belittling of women in the church.
Women in the Early Church It is difficult to address the topic of women in the early church because
culturally, Women were not accepted. Generally, it has not been acceptable for women to have a
teaching role within the church. More conservative denominations may even limit that more. Aside
from a general lack of woman s rights throughout time within many cultures, Christians cite the idea
that women cannot have positions of authority within the Church from passages like 1 Corinthians
14:34 where Paul says, The women should keep silent in the

Land Of Ur Research Paper
The land of Ur is one that, until relatively recent archaeological discoveries, has been a bit of a
mystery. The writings of Maimonides and Josephus both place Ur at different locations throughout the
Assyrian empire. It has been believed that Ur was farther north but archaeological evidence places the
land of Ur on the western bank of the Euphrates River in the southeastern potion of ancient
Mesopotamia. According to archaeological excavations, this was a place of great culture,
sophistication, influence, riches, and power. The people of Ur worshipped many gods but they
primarily worshipped the moon god, Nanna, and his consort Ningal. Ur was a massive influence in its
day, being a center of religion, culture, and economics that had an effect ... Show more content on

The story of Nanna follows that the old woman of Nippur, Nunbarshegunu, taught her daughter Ninlil
how to win the affections of the air god, Enlil. She succeeded but Enlil began to frighten her so she
refused his advances and he then raped her. The other gods were disgusted by this action and they
banished Enlil to the netherworld. Ninlil chose to follow him there, pregnant with their child. Not
wanting their son, Nanna, to live in the netherworld he chose to impregnate her with three other
children who grew to rule the netherworld as deities in his place while Nanna was freed. Nanna, the
moon god, ascended to heaven and (with his consort Ningal) became the father of Utu, the sun god.
Nanna continued to rule as the deity of the people and land of Ur. The city contained a massive
ziggurat, which was a mountain like temple that stretched into the sky (reminiscent of the tower of
Babel) with a shrine to the gods on top. The Sumerian culture believed that the god Enlil designed the
universe and that the water god, Enki, constructed the world. Enki creates the world and then entrusts
each place to a special entity with the moon god being the deity that people of Ur worship.
Ur is known as the premier city of the Sumerian civilization. Located near the Euphrates and the
Tigris rivers it became a mighty port city. The riches of this civilization are shown in the excavations
of the royal tombs where the kings, queens, and

Competitors include BCF, Ray s Outdoor, The North Face, and Columbia. The major threats in the
industry environment are detailed below: The Bargaining Power of Suppliers (Moderate): Most of the
industry s products are sourced and manufactured by a network of third parties. The supplier group is
diluted compared to the industry; KMD alone has over 45 suppliers. There is credible threat of
suppliers adopting forward integration resulting in loss of major suppliers and emergence of new
competitors for the industry. Highly effective and specialised products will pose high supplier
switching costs for industry firms. The Intensity of Rivalry among Competitors in an Industry (High):
Equally balanced competitors exist within the industry such as BCF and KMD; these firms also face
competition from retailers and wholesalers. The growth of the industry is relatively agile in both
financial and technological aspects. The intensity or rivalry is further accentuated by relatively high
storage and fixed rental costs, extensive product differentiation and minimal switching costs. 1.2
Internal Environment  To provide quality products to a broad market at a range of price points This

The Differences Between China And Western Europe
Imagine living in America and it not being well America. There would be different ways of
agriculture. Different languages. Different religious beliefs. Having a different way of living in
society, economically and politically. Everything would be different if China would have went about
and conquered Western Europe during the 14 1500 s.
There are many things in history that can mark the milestone differences between China and Western
Europe. No one really knows when Chinese culture really began, however Chinese civilization began
near the Yellow River (Huang He) becoming North China, and Yangtze River (Chang Jiang) indicating
South China. The first Dynasty, the Xia (Hsia) Dynasty began in about 2070 or 2205 BCE. Historians
have found proof of the wheel first being used in China during this time showing urban culture did
exist. The Shang Dynasty followed introducing the first Chinese Government. A lot of the basic
Chinese culture was introduced during the Zhou (Chou) Dynasty such as the Mandate of Heaven.
China contains a lot of history throughout the years. There were battles between the states, many new
emperors and leaders, as well as new technologies. All of which brought three great Chinese
philosophies; Daoism, Confucianism, and Legalism. It wasn t until about 581 CE that China was

Canal. It was during the Song Dynasty, in 960 CE, that China promoted better tools. The

Mixed Market Systems In The United States
In a society that values a wide range of customs, traditions, and hierarchies, a thorough understanding
of these systems can potentially result in success within a community as well as ones own life. Here in
the United States, we lived in a mixed market system. We hold many liberties in terms of all aspects of
our lives, such as the our decision of what we need, what we want, what we do, and how it is done. In
a mixed market economy, we also have the option to own a business, if we so chose to, or we can
choose to be employed by another. Our lives here in the United States are determined solely by our
decisions. Financially, we are in charge of the wealth we accumulate. We may choose to make a
withdrawal from the bank, or we can make a deposit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Actions from both parties determine the state of the economy compared to the economies of other
countries, such as North Korea and Cuba. In these countries, they thrive in a command economy,
which encourages complete control of the economy and aspects of the citizens lives by the
government. This type of economy encourages equality between all citizens and many restrictions are
placed on individuals, including the inability to own a private business. In America, however, most of
the economy is controlled by the citizens, and we are able to start or own a business if we so choose.
Because of this freedom, it allowed Gates to start a business alongside his close comrade, Paul Allen.
They would not have been able to accomplish this feat if they lived in a country which supported a
command economy. Also, in a MME, free enterprise is supported, which allows for economic control
by the people and their privately owned businesses. It allows individuals to completely regulate their
businesses, such as the price of a product, which lets businesses compete fairly. Although Mr. Gates
thrived in his business, the opportunity of competition with other technological companies contributed
to his success. It allowed him to learn and improve his product. An example of competition Microsoft
had to face was Apple, the company that developed and produced the idea of all Apple products such
as the iPhone and the iPad. Microsoft also shared a bit of competition with Google. In the early years,
Apple and Microsoft were close allies, but because of continued technological innovation and
similarities between the two platforms, both companies were drawn apart. The strive to provide a
better product for consumers allowed for learning opportunities which contributed to the success of
both companies. But the influence of free enterprise, which only exists in a mixed

  • 2. Increase Proportion Of Nurses With Baccalaureate Degree Increase proportion of nurses with baccalaureate degree by 2020 If one can stop for a few minutes and imagine a doctor s office, a hospital, and a nursing home without nurses, you can easily see the important role that a nurse plays in society. It s not far fetched to believe that fewer nurses can shorten our lifespan. Imagine a hospital stay or a surgery without nurses. Imagine your chances of infection and a successful recovery without the constant care that nurses provide in the absence of the doctor and in many cases, in the presence of the doctor. For acute care patients fewer or no nurses can be a matter of life and death. Nurses take pride in the practice of their profession they care for people, not the medical condition. They are passionate about patient advocacy, support reform of the health delivery system and go the extra mile when patient care appears endless. When the Institute of Medicine (IOM) released its 2010 report, The Future of Nursing, Leading Change, and Advancing Health, many nurses felt affirmed by the spotlight this prestigious group placed on nursing. The reality is the newly designed healthcare requirements by President Obama will lead to millions of previously uninsured Americans needing care that nurses can provide. These growing demands lend themselves to different types of care providers under the nursing umbrella. There are: LPNs, nursing assistants, RNs with associate degrees, baccalaureate and master degrees, nurse practitioners, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Alternative Energy And Renewable Energy Throughout the 20th and 21st century, our knowledge about the environment and energy has steadily grown, as well as our dependence on them. Nowadays, power and electricity are in every facet of our daily lives. Due to this, we overlook several negative effects our traditional use of fossil fuels have caused. Fossil fuels are fuel deposits that were formed hundreds of millions of years ago, which is where the term fossil fuels come from. The two most common fossil fuels currently in use are coal and oil, which power the majority of our infrastructure. However, fossil fuels are known to have some drawbacks which is where projects for alternative energy come into play. Alternative energy, or also known as renewable energy are energy sources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fossil fuels are already a widely established in the current market place. There is no need for big technology innovations or research breakthroughs, since it is already a commonplace energy commodity. The current job market which involves fossil fuels such as oil and coal are huge. IHS Global Insights claims that by 2020 around three million jobs in America will be involving oil and gas extraction. The processing of these fuels also does create useful byproducts, like plastics. While these are a few advantages, there is sadly many more pressing disadvantages. (ConserveEnergyFuture) The burning and processing of fossil fuels release high levels of carbon dioxide into the air. This heavily contributes to a climate phenomenon known as Global Warming , which is considered one of the greatest humanitarian crises of our time. As previously stated, fossil fuels are nonrenewable. This puts a hard cap on the amount we can eventually use, which means there is a finite supply. Fossil fuels are generally located deep in the earth, and the process of mining them are extremely harmful for the environment. Coal mining heavily affects the areas where it is mined, due to the location of nearby materials. Coal is often found beside highly acidic substances, so after mining is completed the only material left in the area is acidic, which destroys the land. Coal and oil production facilities also produce liquid slag which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Role Of Large Corporations Under Repressive Regime What is the role of large corporations under repressive regime? Do they engage in criminal activities? If yes, how should they be included in a process of transitional justice? The purpose of this work is to establish the links between the business world and transitional justice mechanisms. My purpose is more specifically to link the potential crimes perpetrated by corporations and the transitional justice mechanisms. This work does not link the transitional justice field to a defined field of research. Corporate responsibility or accountability is a concept coming from law and business literature. For the United Nations, transitional justice is the full range of processes and mechanisms associated with a society s attempt to come to terms with a legacy of large scale past abuses, in order to ensure accountability, serve justice and achieve reconciliation. The vast majority of the literature discussing transitional justice focuses on individuals or states, not collective organizations. Mechanisms of transitional justice are fourfold and include: a justice process, a reparation process, a truth process and a stabilization process. All these 4 processes are studied as either applying to individuals or state. However, in many cases the responsibility of individuals is related to the collective responsibility of a group or an organization other than the state. The objective of this work is to try to connect the role of businesses and transitional justice mechanisms. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Greenwashing in Media Essay Research ProjectGreenwashing in Media In this day and age companies have mastered the technique of misleading customers by fabricating false claims about a green product or service that they swear to provide. This insincere display of information is called Greenwashing , a spin off of Whitewashing . Greenwashing could be said to be a global phenomenon and it s commonly seen in advertisements, on products packing, websites, emails, speeches, and videos (just to name a few). Greenwashing is a thought out process, a planned and typically well designed campaign. There is a wide range of reasons why companies are eager to partake in greenwashing; divert attention for regulatory change, to persuade critics or consumers, expand the company s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On your weekly trip to the supermarket it s easy to find a number of products, from coffee to dishwashing soap, that flaunt their green attributes (American Psychological Association, 2010). With such rumors of greenwashing, consumers are more confused than ever. However, some consumers know the tricks and are coming to find that there are companies whose marketing practices are legit, not exaggerated or deceiving. APA also found that, people are willing to spend more of their hard earned green on green products, according to a 2008 survey of 9,000 adults performed by the global business firm Boston Consulting Group (American Psychological Association, 2010). Consumers who are willing to pay more for a product or service are assuming that they are purchasing a healthier, safer, and better quality product or service for the environment. Unfortunately there are consequences that arise when a consumer has been greenwashed. These consequences are that consumers ultimately spend more money on products that they believe stand true, and when purchasing these products the consumer is supporting companies that are harming the environment. Downing et al. states that, learning how to read advertising critically thus provides individuals with important tools for interpreting contemporary American culture and avoiding manipulation. Jaws is a thriller/horror with the main aim being to build up suspense and tension. When making the film Jaws Steven Spielberg had to face the challenging task of translating Benchley s popular novel into a hit movie whilst still maintaining the suspense created through the many textual devices used by Benchley, such as language techniques and sentence structure. Spielberg managed use different camera angles and shots alongside lighting effects to create atmosphere and tension to pretty much the same effect. Another interesting point is as Chrissie is removing her clothes while running it is almost as she is leaving herself exposed to potential danger and making herself more vulnerable. At this point as the viewer sees Chrissie isolated in the water they realise that she is facing danger only limited by their own imagination. As Chrissie continues swimming, the frame changes to a point of view shot, accompanied by the same music as in the opening shot. The audience s thoughts change immediately from the images of the cheerful beach party to the earlier reference of the shark in the opening sequence. This provides a very effective contrast. The audience s expectations are realised when Chrissie feels a sharp pain, and then begins splashing about in the water as she is attacked. The unseen shark thrashes her around in the water, and she eventually clings onto a buoy, making its bell ring, in a vain attempt to alert the nearby community. After a final grasp for breath, she finally disappears under the surface of the water leaving the viewers with the burden of her death. The second victim of the shark is a young boy named Alex, this time the scene is set in along the beach, crowded with people enjoying the long Independence Day holiday. Also on the beach is police chief Brody with his own family. Sunbathers lie on the packed beach. This is a very unlikely place and time for an eventful scene. Again the ... • 8. The Crystal Frontier By Carlos Fuentes In The Crystal Frontier, Carlos Fuentes presents two of his main characters in much a similar fashion; in Spoils, we find Dionisio is a world renowned chef and cuisine connoisseur, and also a fervent critic of American cuisine and culture. Dionisio believes that through his country s chromosomal imperialism, Mexico will be able to solidify its sphere of influence in America; however, when he travels to the United States, he indulges in the same institutions that he ridicules when he lives in Mexico. Similarly, in Pain we encounter the young and aspiring doctor, Juan Zamora. Zamora is an ambitious student who travels to the United States to further his education and learns that successful networking is the way to get ahead in American society. Zamora and Dionisio are both functions of their environment. When they are living in America, they are exhibiting an innate interconnectedness with society, and when they live in Mexico quite the opposite; Zamora and Dionisio display traditional attributes which are stereotypical to that of the Mexican who lives in solitude. This essay will seek to dissect each character and describe how each utilizes his own respective Mexican Mask to acquire what he truly desires, and it will describe how each character s personality fluctuates simply due to where he is geographically located. • 9. The On Balancing The Environment Balancing the Environment Does the implementation of government policies in order to decrease negative environmental effects violate individual rights? Immanuel Kant one of the most recognized names in deontological theory proposed a theory that is based on determining if you are using someone or something as a means or an end. In essence stating that in order for a decision to be made one must take into account whether a person is being manipulated against their consent or they are being foster towards an equally beneficial end (O Neill, 1993). One could say it is everyone s duty to push the government to introduce policies to decrease negative environmental impacts in order to sustain a healthy and inhabitable environment for the future. Yet this raises the question, how does one determine this is their duty and is this being forced against one s will with no substantial benefit? While others may argue that to protect the planet is the duty of all people. The term deontology comes from the Greek word deon, meaning duty. The theory of deontology states we are morally obligated to act in accordance with a certain set of principles and rules regardless of outcome (Shakil, n.a). Immanuel Kant expanded on this theory and introduced what has come to be known as Kantian Deontology. Kantian Deontology proposes, no one rational or autonomous creature should be treated as mere means for the enjoyment or even the happiness of another. (O Neil, 1993). Therefore, no person ... • 10. A Comparison of Realism in Uncle Vanya and A Doll s House... Realism in Uncle Vanya and A Doll s House A play serves as the author s tool for critiquing society. One rarely encounters the ability to transcend accepted social beliefs. These plays reflect controversial issues that the audience can relate to because they interact in the same situations every day. As late nineteenth century playwrights point out the flaws of mankind they also provide an answer to the controversy. Unknowingly the hero or heroine solves the problem at the end of the play and indirectly sends a message to the audience on how to solve their own problem. Nora s motive is to save her husband s life and keeping it secret is to save him from pain and humiliation. Nora knows that without forging her father s signature she would not be able to save her husband. Nora uses her wit to find a way to be able to overcome the shackles placed on her by society and get enough money to save Torvald s life. • 11. Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own Essay Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own Missing works cited In A Room of One s Own, Virginia Woolf ponders the plight of women throughout history. Woolf reads the lives of women and concludes that if a woman were to have written she would have had to overcome enormous circumstances (Woolf xi). Woolf s initial thesis is that a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction (Woolf 4). Throughout the book, however, she develops other important conditions for artistic creation. Woolf mentions many nineteenth century female writers in order to explain these conditions, but she does not mention Mary Shelley. Woolf most likely excludes the author of Frankenstein because her writing contains considerable male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rejection and discouragement from family, friends, and society fills her life. Because the world will not permit the expression of her genius, she eventually commits suicide. Woolf argues that like ? Shakespeare?s sister,? any woman ?born with a gift for poetry in the sixteenth century was an unhappy woman, a woman at strife against herself? (Woolf 50). Although the circumstances of female writers greatly improve over the next 300 years, Woolf finds that ?even in the nineteenth century a woman was not encouraged to be an artist. On the contrary, she was snubbed, slapped, lectured and exhorted? (Woolf 55). Despite the great odds against her, a few women managed to disregard their discouraging environments and write successfully. The conditions that they overcame amaze Woolf: ? What genius, what integrity it must have required in face of all that criticism, in the midst of that purely patriarchal society to hold fast to the thing as they saw it without shrinking? (Woolf 74). Unlike most nineteenth century female writers, Mary Shelley is supported in her intellectual pursuits throughout her life. Although society discourages female writers, her family surrounds her with constant encouragement. Shelley comes from a background of famous radical writers. The political and moral writings of her father, William Godwin, are extremely influential during the time. Her feminist mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, writes the controversial book, A ... • 13. The Federal Emergency Management Agency The Rise and Fall of Legitimacy: A Review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from 1979 to 2005 Introduction Legitimacy is the lifeblood of an organization. With conflict and competition a clear winner is considered legitimate. Cooperation, however, offers the potential for legitimacy for multiple parties. A legitimate organization has authority based on being representative, accountable, responsible, effectiveness, efficiency, minimal interference from political pressure, and established rules. Rules provide a rational foundation for procedures and operations. Administrative decisions grounded in established rules are the basis of a legal rational authority and ensure that decisions are not biased or influenced. Weber (1922) and Stillman (1998) identify the application of established, impersonal rules and procedures as an important characteristic of an organization and crucial to a legitimate authority. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has seen a rise and fall regarding its view of legitimacy between the years of 1979 and 2005. FEMA carried a reputation for a lack of legitimacy for nearly two decades. Strong leadership and a new approach led to an increased respect and view of legitimacy by the public. However, this was short lived. This paper will discuss the significant contributing factor leading to FEMA s return to a lack of legitimacy in the response to Hurricane Katrina. My essay will outline the journey of identifying my area of student growth since undertaking this Bachelor of Dementia Care degree and introductory units. Academic achievements, typically are based on examination or assessment marks. As Cottrell (2013, pp. 12 13) shows, a quiz can identify and evaluate a measurement of achievement particularly of a new student. I will endeavour to show, with the use of differing methods or tools of measurement, they act as a catalyst to improve or impede my academic development. Additionally, I will discuss examples and explain how I can apply the outcomes of my development. It has been thirty years since I completed by Higher School Certificate, receiving a mark measuring my ability to recall prior years of secondary study. So, as I commence university to attain my degree, how will I manage study, work and family commitments? Do I have the skills to undertake this so late in my life? (Vivekananda Shores, 1996, p.10). Overwhelmed and anxious about what I had committed myself to, the initial exhilaration of enrolling as a university student was replaced with anxiety. Scanning through discussion boards provided affirmation of the anxieties I experienced. The Feedback I received from one participant responded I feel that self doubt too (M. Bancroft, personal communication, March 3, 2016) (Appendix A) this alerted me to an opportunity to abate my anxiety, but also provided me with a tool to test my strategies and ideas. • 15. Me Knife Diamond And Flower Analysis A piece of art I really liked at the El Paso Art Museum was Me, Knife, Diamond and Flower created by James Surles in 1999. This piece is three dimensional and made out of pine, poplar and fabricated stainless steel. The first thing I noticed was the big knife so immediately I was drawn to go see what it was all about. I found it be very expressive because it definitely made me feel a little creeped out that there was a knife, leaving me to wonder if this was about a murder, or trying to tell a story of some kind. The first thought that came into my mind was what the hell is that? I am not too sure if this it was supposed to be a witch s hat or a limbless and leafless tree but is ugly. This piece had a lot of texture ranging from very smooth looking to extremely bumpy which I did not feel was appealing whatsoever. It looked like someone just starting hitting it from to create dimples. There was no real pattern, repetition or rhythm to the texture. The higher you looked up on the piece, the more texture that appeared in the surface. The bottom of the sculpture had a lot more smoother and finer texture to it. I saw this piece just shortly after I saw Me, Knife, Diamond and Flower which really had my mind stimulated in a positive manner and then I stumbled across this piece which changed my mood almost instantly. I was sad to see such an emotionless piece right after seeing James Surles and I felt like I wasted time in my life just staring at it. I decided to Google what Rolo meant and in Latin America it means stick. In no shape or form do I see a stick in the artwork. The story goes on to explain how Loman s hard work does not pay. In other words, today s society is filled with people who do not get the credit they deserve for the little things they do in life. Loman is an example of 20th century people who resort to illusion in order to gain some dignity. The author, Arthur Miller, tells the story of a sales man who faces the end of his life without fulfilling his idealistic ambitions. For a hard work he puts in, he does not get appreciate it for. For instance, Loman would drive 700 miles to work and come home without even earing a cent. • 17. Differences And Disadvantages Of Standardization Vs.... 2.3.1 Standardization vs. customization On one hand, standardization represents a way of reducing the costs, increasing productivity, lowering the prices and systemizing innovations so that they can be reproduced (Sundbo, 1996; Gallouj, 1994; Sundbo 1998, cited in Sundbo, 2002). Customization on the other hand, increases the customer satisfaction ensuring the perceived quality, creates opportunities for rising the price. Furthermore it enables innovation to take place near the customer, which offers a great possibility to succeed on the market. The traditional economic theory highlights productivity gains as being the essence of any economic activity, implying economies of scale and cost reduction, while the theories of service development stress the importance of customer care in service activities, not reducing the costs (Normann, 1991; Gronroos 1990, cited Sundbo, 2002). • 19. Essay on Counterfeit Items Cause Economic Damage Everyone has seen the sidewalk vendor hawking a too good to be true designer handbag. The clues to counterfeit luxury items used to be so obvious that most people knew exactly what they were buying. This sadly is no longer the case. The production of counterfeit items causes American manufactures to suffer about $200 billion in losses each year according to the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition (Freedman, 1999). A large part of counterfeited items are fashion goods. They are usually easily recognizable, especially at the designer or luxury end of the market. Many businesses are losing customers because they are not able to spot counterfeit items. Customers are doing more and more shopping on the Internet for convenience and lower prices rather than shopping at their local trusted retailer. Customers are buying merchandise without knowing the seller or their reputation (McCausland, 2010). The shopper who would never have considered buying from the guy on the corner whispering, Pssst! Want to buy a watch? can easily be fooled by a website that looks genuine but isn t, says Susan Scafidi, a law professor at Fordham Univeristy (McCausland, 2010). Some websites are even very open about the fact that they sell counterfeit merchandise. They label their designer knockoffs as replicas or inspired by the original designer (Freedman, 1999). The shoppers who do not realize that they are buying counterfeit goods or who are knowingly buying counterfeit goods will continue to purchase these items from counterfeiters because they are cheaper than buying the real thing. The customers who are knowingly purchasing fakes are contributing to the reduced profitability of legitimate businesses. The And The Colonists Of The Americas The original motivations for the Spaniards going to the New World were to spread Christianity and grow wealthy; however, when they arrived, the actions of the Spaniards against the natives of the Americas did not reflect these original goals and led to unanticipated consequences. One such unexpected consequence was a reliance on slave labor. In order to accomplish the work necessary to make the profits that the Spaniards had expected, they turned to the natives as a work force. This need for laborers led the Spanish to enslave the natives, which led to conflict and cruelty, which went against the initial goal of spreading Christianity; if the prospective converts are being mistreated by those hoping to do the converting, the conversion itself becomes much more difficult due to the negative relationship. The Spaniards strongly believed that it was their sacred duty to save the faithless natives of the Americas by introducing them to God, and so they did all they could to see this happen, despite the negative impacts on the relationship between the natives and the Spaniards. This also made it more difficult to easily exploit the resources of the region against the wishes of the natives, because the growing bitterness between the Spanish and the natives made it impossible to successfully work together in an economic setting in the same way as the Dutch and the French. • 27. Teresa And The Acquisition Of Virtue In the pages recounting her life, the sixteenth century Carmelite nun Saint Teresa of Ávila provides a specific view regarding how virtue is a gift granted by God that must be fostered through a Christian s actions and community, a gift that is tested by corresponding vices. To Teresa, vices simply amount to twisted virtues. Teresa casts God as the . . . true Virtue, from which all virtues spring . . . and, convexly, casts the human race as distanced from God, and therefore, distanced from virtue (Teresa 99, 58). In order to acquire virtue, God s grace is critical and all efforts are useless without it (92). Instead of Christians sowing virtues, Teresa states that God alone plants virtues within His followers (118). Once planted, it is up to each individual to foster each virtue, lest it be taken away. According to Teresa, the development of each virtue represents a long journey (263). The fully grown tree also must be protected, as the individual must take care, to not permit worms, sent by the devil, to ravage the tree (230). Virtues, in fact, equate to splendid jewels to be taken away if their bearer forgets to polish and display them (73). Teresa further argues the ability to nurture any virtue ... Paul looks to the Roman house churches and tackles possible issues within their context. Paul encourages the Romans to respect and not resist governing authorities. One topic Paul does not touch explicitly is the role of women in the church, but implicitly Paul speaks volumes about women within the church. In chapter 16, Paul commends and greets several women. His language gives strong clues to the state of women in the ministry of the early church. This paper will explore the way Paul commends and greets Phoebe, Prisca, Mary, and Junia and the implications of those greetings to reach beyond the belittling of women in the church. Women in the Early Church It is difficult to address the topic of women in the early church because culturally, Women were not accepted. Generally, it has not been acceptable for women to have a teaching role within the church. More conservative denominations may even limit that more. Ninlil chose to follow him there, pregnant with their child. Not wanting their son, Nanna, to live in the netherworld he chose to impregnate her with three other children who grew to rule the netherworld as deities in his place while Nanna was freed. Nanna, the moon god, ascended to heaven and (with his consort Ningal) became the father of Utu, the sun god. Nanna continued to rule as the deity of the people and land of Ur.
