Fmri, The New Aspects Of Deception Detection
fMRI, THE NEW ASPECTS OF DECEPTION DETECTION
INTRODUCTION
If deception becomes human behaviour, lie detection will play key role of proving their deceit. For a
century, researchers studied significantly about lying and deception as the human behaviour in
scientific, philosophical and legal aspects (Ford, 2006) and attempted to create the instruments to
detect lies. Many techniques were developed to detect deception and determine the truth (Kleinmuntz
and Szucko, 1984 cited in National Research Council, 2003).
In early of the 20th century, lie detection was invented by using physiological responses as indicators
of deception, known as the polygraph (National Research Council, 2003). Polygraph has been used in
many objectives, for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, the definition of human deception will be demonstrated followed by the historical background
of lie detection and development of the polygraph. After that theoretical and drawbacks of polygraph
are reviewed. Moreover, fMRI will be explained in scientific aspect. Finally, the evaluation of fMRI
on human deception and its benefits will be shown to complete the idea of the new aspect of detection
deception.
What is the Human Deception?
Many researchers used to define deception in various definitions. For example, Mitchell, 1986 defines
deception as a false communication that tends to benefit the communicator which is a broad meaning
and describes many acts as deceit. Nonetheless, there are many people who disagree with this
(Mitchell, 1986 cited in Vrij, 2008, 12). While, Vrij, 2008 defines lying as an intentional act also
implies that if two people contradict each other, this does not automatically mean that one of them is
lying (Vrij, 2008, 14). Thus, it can be explained that perception depends on action s purpose of
communicator and also the perception of the receiver.
A History of Lie Detection and Development of Polygraph
In China, 1000 B.C., the lie detection was logically used for the first time. Suspects were tested by
filling their mouths with a handful of dry rice and, then, it is spat out. If

Karl Popper The Enemy Of Certainty Analysis
In the three part informative bibliography Karl Popper, the enemy of certainty, published by The
Guardian, scientist and philosopher Karl Popper s perspective on science is identified and discussed.
Author Liz Williams describes how Karl Popper was driven by a passion for learning and
understanding the world around him, and eventually grew to reject the ideas of empiricism and
positivism. Popper states that deductive reasoning, rather than inductive reasoning, should be used to
evaluate a theory based on the idea that proving a theory false provides a stronger argument compared
to proving a theory true. Popper also argues that theories cannot be considered scientific theories
unless they are able to be proven false, or are falsifiable. They must be able to be tested, and have the
ability to be proven false through those tests, before it can be considered a scientific theory. Popper
argues that scientific revolutions come about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Popper s scientific philosophy was solely based on truth, based on the idea that new scientific theories
are generated when old scientific theories are proven to be false; he states that in order for a theory to
be scientific, it must be falsifiable. On the other hand, Kuhn s philosophy was based on thought, and
how scientist s collective thoughts and theories change as concepts and practices change with time.
These two individuals have directly opposing philosophies truth versus thought. Finally, Lakatos
scientific philosophy acts as a happy medium between the two, describing science and scientific
revolutions as both truth and thought, although he did emphasize that truth may be a more reliable
factor. Whether it be truth, or thought, or both behind the changes in science over time, it does not
change the fact that scientific revolutions happen, and that they will continue to happen throughout the

Today, 18 different Hmong clan names are still passed down from generation to generation. Hmong
clan names are equivalent to American last names. First names identify people and last names identify
clans. The 18 clans provide life time membership and ongoing material and spiritual support to their
members from birth to death. Newborns are given the father s clan name, which they cannot change.
For that reason, Hmong women retain their clan name when they get married (Moua, 1995). The
foundation of Hmong life is marriage and family (Millett, 2002). An ancient ritual requires the groom
to pay a bride price, a negotiated sum of money paid to the bride s parents. Hmong newlyweds live
with the husband s parents until they have two or more children. However, Hmong culture expects the
last born married son, his wife, and children to permanently live with, support, and care for his parents
and grandparents until their death. Unfortunately, time honored Hmong traditions are challenged by
American culture. For example, there is conflict between Hmong Christians and Hmong Animists.
Animists sacrifice animals to worship spirits; they believe that all living things have spirits (Brittan,
1997). Hmong Christians worship God and condemn animal sacrifice. As a result, Christianity altered
traditional Hmong rituals and ceremonies. For instance, Christianity eliminated the payment of a bride
price

North And South African Trade Essay
In West and South Africa the rulers of empires took control of trade, this trade was supported by the
goods of wealthy eastern city states. Trade in Africa was thriving years before the Europeans
arrived.Africa participated in a system of regional and international trade; However, people were
affected in both positive and negative ways. Trade offered neighboring areas to share their unique
exports, trade was what kept most empires running. There were various trade items shared through
regional trade. In an excerpt from Kingdoms of the Medieval Sudan Jonathan Rotondo McCord said,

Cultural blending came with trade because people from far away areas brought not only their trade
items but also pieces of where they came from such as fashion, language, and religion. It is stated in
document 6 [The Moorish Merchants] came in small vessels...from the kingdoms of Kilwa, Mombasa,
and Malindi...some of them speak Arabic, but more part use the language of the country. They clothe
themselves from the waist down with cotton and silk cloths, and other cloths they wear over their
shoulders like capes and turbans on their heads . The merchants from Kilwa, Mombasa, and Malindi
brought not just trade items with them but pieces of their culture such as their clothing and language,
this resulted in cultural blending. The people of africa were negatively affected because of slave trade.
Document one shows the trade routes between africa and europe, africa exported slaves to europe. The
slave trade was important to keep up with europe s high demand for workers in the manufacturing of
goods, although this made it possible for materials to be manufactured the important roles people of
africa once played such as teachers and farmers were left empty causing famine and instability in

Attitudes towards women, and their role in American...
Attitudes towards women, and their role in American Musical Theatre.
For my essay, I am going to look at the attitudes towards women, both from men and other women,
and the significant role that that women had in telling the stories in American musical theatre.
Showboat was the first musical of its kind. Up to this point, musicals consisted of songs and dances,
with often feeble storylines based around the big stars. Showboat had a real story, adapted from a
novel, and both the singing and dancing told the story.
At the beginning of Showboat, after we have been introduced to the main characters, we hear the main
female characters attitude towards men and love.
Fish got to swim, birds got to fly,
I got to love one man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The musical starts with a woman singing Summertime, to lull her baby to sleep. When this fails, her
husband has a try. He sings A woman is a sometime thing , this song shows the attitude of the men
towards their women in the community, that they are less respected than men.
Bess is clearly outside the close knit Catfish Row community. She is a bar girl and drug addict, who is
in total contrast to the stereotypical, hard working, religious women of Catfish Row. Crown
(Bess partner) kills a gambling partner and leaves Bess in Catfish
Row while he runs away from the police. Porgy and Bess become a couple, and we see Bess changing.
She starts to dress like the women of Catfish Row and gives money to help bury Clara s husband (who
Crown killed). The women s attitude towards her changes and they stop seeing her as a tart and start
looking at her as a friend.
Bess doesn t have a theme of her own, instead adopting part of the theme of whoever she s with.
The loneliness theme that she absorbs is used by Gershwin to show that Bess love can take away
Porgy s loneliness. Later this theme
adoption is used to link Bess with Sportin life. We are also shown
Bess dependence on other people as she doesn t sing a song on her own. By using Porgy s range of a
perfect fifth (used throughout the musical to show community and togetherness) she shows that she is
starting to fit in. Then her past catches

The Aztecs And The Incas
1. Introduction
Imagine living in a world where everything is ruled by how the night sky looked. As the sun starts to
set, the sky starts to get illuminated not by one, but by millions and millions of other stars! This is
what the Aztecs and the Mayas saw every night. Both the Aztec and the Maya were a powerful and
advanced civilization that were created separately from the Western European civilizations and did an
amazing job doing so. Just like many other Ancient Civilizations the night sky plays a significant role
in their society. Astronomy, Religion, culture and architecture are all aligned the stars.
Both the Aztecs and the Maya originated in what is now the southern part of Mexico and other parts of
Central America. The Maya are the predecessors of the Aztecs and much of their customs are seen the
Aztec culture. But the Maya were not the first; there were the Olmec s, Toltec s, and the Chichimec s
before the Maya and Aztec. Progressively you see that each successive civilization impacted the next
in aspects of the religion and the astronomy.
The astronomy that the Aztecs and the Maya developed was phenomenal. They were both great at
predicting eclipses, as well as being the civilizations with the most accurate synodic periods of the
Moon, Earth, Venus, and Mars at that time period. Clearly these people knew what they were doing
and what they were looking at. Astronomy was such and important piece to their culture that you can

This has many advantages, such as the fact that double fertilization guarantees that the endosperm will
develop only in ovules where the egg has been fertilized. It also avoids angiosperms from wasting
nutrients. 13. Explain how fertilization in animals is similar to that in plants.
 Fertilization in animals is similar to that in plants because its first cellcell change occurs after
gamete fusion rises in the cytoplasmic Ca2+ levels as it does in animal gamete fusion. Also, the plants
make a block to polyspermy, which is the fertilization of an egg by more than one sperm cell, as do
the animal s cell s eggs. 14. Describe the fate of the ovule and ovary after double fertilization. Note
where major nutrients are stored as the embryo develops.
 After double fertilization, the ovule matures into a seed, and the ovary matures into a fruit
encircling the seed. As the embryo grows the seed stores proteins, oils, and starch. 15. Describe the
development and function of the endosperm. Distinguish between liquid endosperm and solid
endosperm.
 After embryo development, endosperm is growth to store nutrients. This happens after double
fertilization, when the triploid nucleus of the ovule s central cell divides. This causes the formation of
a milky multinucleate supercell . This becomes multicellular after cytokinesis. Finally, when the cell
walls are completed, the endosperm becomes solid. 16. Describe the development of

Nietzsche s Critique of Judeo-Christian Values
Nietzsche s critique of Judeo Christian values
As perhaps one of the most important pieces of work written by Nietzsche, On the Genealogy of
Morality contains some of his most complex and provocative thoughts on the nature of morality and
its origins. It is evident throughout his essays that Nietzsche has a profound discontent with modern
society and its values, a discontent that Nietzsche attempts to explain through a thorough critique of
the modern values that have stemmed from the rise of Judeo Christianity values that have shaped
today s civilization. In his analysis of concepts such as morality and guilt, he explores the history of
the deformation of the once noble and animalistic human society that succumbed to its death ... Show

Essentially, their intelligence became their weapon against the nobles. Nietzsche expresses this when
he states priests make the worst enemies...because they are the most powerless. Out of this
powerlessness, their hate swells into something huge and uncanny to a most intellectual and poisonous
level (17). Among all of the priestly caste, however, Nietzsche identifies the Jews to be the most
hateful, and characterizes them as being the most entrenched with priestly vengefulness (17). The
desire of the clerical caste to effect their revenge on the nobles in the form of a revaluation of the their
moral code was the embodiment of their ressentiment turning itself from thought and into action.
Nietzsche expresses this when he states The beginning of the slaves revolt in morality occurs when
ressentiment itself turns creative and gives birth to values: the ressentiment of those beings who,
denied the proper response of action, compensate for it only with imaginary revenge (20). Nietzsche
associates the slave revolt in morality with the priestly castes, namely the Jews , dedicated and
deliberate desire to implement their revenge through the creation and revaluation of morals, stating
with regard to the huge and incalculably disastrous initiative taken by the Jews with this most
fundamental of all declarations of war...the slaves revolt in morality begins with the Jews: a revolt
which has two thousand years of history behind it (17).

The Pros And Cons Of Volunteerism
5. Conclusion
With this thesis I wanted to create a broader view on the systems behind all the critiques on
volunteerism projects in order to contribute to projects that are both beneficial for volunteers as well
as for host communities. The theoretical aim of this thesis was to contribute to the scientific debate on
how volunteerism projects impact volunteers and host communities, through showing how this impact
is influenced by processes of liminality and Othering. On top of that, I wanted to question the notion
of giving aid as the starting point of volunteerism projects. The story represented two groups;
volunteers and host communities, who joined volunteerism projects with good intentions. Some,
however, unaware of the unintended consequences and how their expectations would work out.
5.1 The unintended consequences of the desire to help
It all started with one group of volunteers who had a specific interest in improving the waste
management in Bandung and another group of volunteers that wanted to teach English to children in
the same region. They both found volunteering project from AIESEC that focussed on these interests
and made their way to Indonesia. But, despite the focus of these projects on waste management and
teaching English on paper, the projects turn out to be focussed on something as well in reality; the ...

cultural understanding is, next to one of the aims of most volunteerism project, necessary for the

Technological Innovations In World War One
War, whether intentional or not, surrounds us and has done for many centuries. The four years of the
First World War saw combat on a scale that had never been experienced before the conflict was global,
it affected countless millions and, due to rapid technological advances on all sides, the nature of
combat changed significantly. The final days of swords and cavalry charges gave way to the routine
use of machine guns and tanks a new technological era had been heralded, an era we still live in today.
In World War One (WW1), technological innovations were primarily aimed at ending the stalemate
and aiding the allied victory. War demands the development of new methods of destruction and with
that an increase in technology. WW1 saw the innovation

Compare And Contrast Walt Whitman And I Too Sing America...
How are you known? A last name is what defines them, it tells their past. It tells what they should be
like in relation to ancestors. When the word amerca comes to mind do you consider it part of you?
Walt whitman was a man that was born in New York, he knew what america came from. Whitman
wrote a poem called I Hear America Singing. In this poem he tells of citizens doing their job or daily
duty while singing America. Later on in history a man named Langston Hughes, he was an African
american poet during the Harlem Renissance. This was a time period that allowed Afican Americans
Poetry to be taken seriously. Langston wrote a poem that struck the hearts of all people, it is called I,
Too, Sing Amerca, this poem expands on how hard Africna Americans had it. They had to take care of
everything for their meals, and after all of that they were sent to eat their shares in the kitchen away
from everyone. This poem was thought to be a response to whitmans poem. in these poems that have

structure or outline of the poem, finally they also explain how proud people are to be an American.

heavy use I can definitely say it was an exceptional purchase. When selecting a mixer my husband did
most of his research online; he read reviews and consumer reports as well as getting background

Ozzy Osbourne Suicide Solution Analysis
Music has a powerful influence in our lives. It is something that surrounds us every day; it has become
so attached to us that we use it as inspiration, to feel relaxed, comfortable and sometimes we make
decisions led by the type of music we are listening in that instant. During the time Ozzy Osbourne has
released many pieces of music containing very contentious messages, which is the case of Suicide
Solution . In result of this piece of music, there were some tragical deaths, making Suicide Solution to
become controversial.
The song was released on September 20, 1980. But its outcomes did not wait too long and four years
later Osbourne was in the eye of the hurricane. On October 26, 1984, a 19 years old American named
John McCollum shot himself in his bedroom while listening to Osbourne s songs. His parents pointed
out that the song Suicide Solution had encouraged him to commit suicide. The police reported that the
solo debut Blizzard of Osbourne was found on McCollum s turntable and they said that the last song
he had listened was Suicide Solution . He shot himself and he was found still wearing his headphones.
John s parent sued Osbourne in October 1985; they sued him and his record company. But the case
was dismissed in August 1986. When this happened, John s parents tried to bring even more attention
to the case. They said that the song contained themes of devil worship and death, they used as
evidence the quote that says suicide in the only way out and they

The Characteristics Of The Eastern Grey Kangaroo And Red...
What s your favorite animal? May not be the kangaroo because you might not know much about them.
The Kangaroo is an animal that really wouldn t pop up into your mind when people ask you that
question. Kangaroos might not be a big hyped up animal but, they re pretty interesting because they
have many features that some other animals don t. When people think about the Kangaroo what comes
to there mind is the Eastern grey kangaroo and Red Kangaroo. Why people think of the grey kangaroo
is because it s a larger species. The kangaroo s diet, the way they survive when danger s get in the
way, also different type of kangaroos, their features about them, and the reproduction. Kangaroos are
marsupials that are only found in Australia that also have pouches. They have muscular tails, strong
back legs, long pointed ears, and short fur.
This mammal is different for the reason that they have pouches. The females have mammary glands
that they carry the young ones until they re old enough to be on their own. When the mother gives
birth the baby crawls up the mother s body immediately to enter the pouch. When the baby is inside
the pouch it attaches to one of the four teats, the reason for that is so it enlarges and to hold it inside in
place. When the joey or baby is born it weighs less than a gram also it s only about 2 cm long. Before
the joey is born the mother makes sure to lick the pouch to make sure its clean before the baby enters
it. Eastern Grey Kangaroos are the most common

Newton And Seurat Research Paper
The world that we live in is constantly innovating new ideas and methods to benefit the lives of many.
It is a fascinating opportunity to reflect on all the inventions that have been made throughout each of
our lifetimes. Two very important individuals that shaped the world we live in today is Sir Isaac
Newton and Georges Pierre Seurat.
Sir Isaac Newton was an English mathematician and physicist. There is a theory that Newton
discovered gravity when he saw a falling apple. Supposedly, when he was observing the apple he was
also thinking about the forces of nature. Newton realized that some force must be acting on falling
objects like apples because otherwise they would not start moving from rest. Newton also realized that
the moon would fly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when you stand on something soft, the object caves in or is pushed down. This is the
reaction of one s force on the soft object, and the soft object s reaction to one standing on it.Seurat
painted the La Grande Jatte in three distinct stages. In the first stage, which was started in 1884, Seurat
mixed his paints from several individual pigments and was still using dull earth pigments such as
ochre or burnt sienna. In the second stage, during 1885 and 1886, Seurat dispensed with the earth
pigments and also limited the number of individual pigments in his paints. This change in Seurat s
palette was due to his application of the advanced color theories of his time. His intention was to paint

Analysis Of Mississippi Goddam By Nina Simone
It is a jaunty ragtime melody that fools listeners into briefly perceiving the number as a feel good pop
song, yet sustains its relevance by acknowledging the continued failure of a full realization of Black
freedom a century after the Thirteenth Amendment. [1. Sound of the Break: Jazz and the Failures of
Emancipation Bridget R. Cooks American Quarterly (June 2016) no. 2
330http://muse.jhu.edu/article/622084] It took Nina Simone an hour to write Mississippi Goddam ,
which is a song based on the place names of oppression. It was written immediately in the wake of the
1963 church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, where four African American girls, none older than
fourteen, were murdered while at Sunday school.
In this song, she mocked government promises, stereotypical insults, and the continuing warning of
public leaders to Go Slow , which the backup singers call out Too Slow! repeatedly. This song had no
intention of being uplifting with lyrics like we shall overcome , instead it is a song about a movement.
A woman who did not have much to begin with and small hope for the American future sings, Oh but
this whole country is full of lies... You re all gonna die and die like flies.
Nina Simone never thought she was going to stay in the show business. When she first got into show
business, she wasn t even a blues singer or jazz singer. She was a classical pianist who studied to
become the first black classical pianist in America, and that s all that was on her mind and what she
prepared to be. She born with the name of Euince Waymon in a town called Tryon, North Carolina.
She began to play the piano at around three or four. Her mother was a preacher and took her to the
revivals, where she started to play the piano at church. Revival meetings were some of the most
exciting times for Simone, since the music was so intense and the feeling of going out of yourself was
the best, especially since she would lead these meetings.
When Simone was seven, the choir of her church gave a program at the local theater, and she was on
it. Two white women heard her playing some songs and one of them, Mrs. Mazzanovich, decided then
and there to give music lessons. For five years, she studied classical piano with this

Socrates, Machiavelli, And Rousseau s Views On Political...
Socrates, Machiavelli, and Rousseau are three philosophers discussing political ethics from entirely
different perspectives. This paper argues that Socrates, Machiavelli, and Rousseau are all idealists
regarding their stances on political ethics. First, this paper argues that Socrates is an idealist due his
belief that the current government has much more potential than it is currently reaching, and that the
government could eventually be changed. Second, this paper argues that Rousseau is an idealist
because of his unrealistically positive view of the natural state of humanity and negative view of
society. Lastly, this paper argues that Machiavelli is idealistic because of the overwhelming,
impossible number of criteria that the Prince ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He proclaims that examining both myself and others is really the very best thing that a man can do,
and that life without this sort of examination is not worth living (Plato 66). Socrates believes that the
government will be able to change so that people who value goodness and truth would be in power.
However, later in the Apology, Socrates contradicts himself when he explains why he has led a mostly
private life, saying that if I had long ago attempted to take part in politics, I should have died long ago
(Plato 58). Socrates believes a man who really fights for justice must lead a private, not a public, life
(Plato 59). This goes against what he has been saying for the rest of the trial and demonstrates the
unrealistic quality of the high standards to which he holds the government and leaders. If Socrates
says it is dangerous for proponents of justice to live a public life, it becomes extremely difficult for
politicians to be virtuous and morally good, since politicians live essentially their whole lives in the
public sphere. It is not realistic for Socrates to believe that the government of Athens could progress
so that good people hold the power, when he has shown that in his own experience and observations it
is not safe for good people to hold public positions.
Another contradiction that emphasizes the dissonance between Socrates ideas and

Causes Of Cataract Blindness
Investigate the causes and treatment of cataract blindness.
What is cataract blindness?
This is a type of blindness that is caused by a cataract, which is a clouding in the eye s normally clear
lens. Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide and can affect either or both eyes. The
normally clear or black pupil becomes clouded with a grey, milky colour and causes vision to become
proportionally reduced. It has a great impact on a human s independence because a cataract only
allows light and dark to be distinguished. Who suffers from cataracts?

Narrative Essay On Water Polo
Water Polo is not an easy sport. And honestly, I kind of randomly picked the sport. When I first started
I barely knew what Water Polo even was, I had nothing to compair it to and no expectations. I started
to play Water polo in my Freshmen year, not knowing what I was jumping into; I didn t know what
swim sets were, I could barely swim, and I was very out of shape. But I also meet some really
amazing people, they were the main reason I stayed in the sport.
I became friends with a fellow Freshmen on my team, she had being playing club Water polo for a
long time before joining the Southridge Water polo team. She really helped me in my performance in
games; she worked with me on my shooting, leg work, and just the basics in general. But she wasn t
the only friend I made on the team; I got to know some Seniors who were really nice. One of them
even gave me a crown that said Varsity Water Polo 2016 . When she gave it to me, I asked, Is this one
of those Burger King crowns? and she replied, No! I got it .. from the crown store! Nevertheless, that
is still one of my favorite memories. It was just so random that I loved it, and still remember it to this
day. Another Senior was really tall and really nice, she always asked me how I was doing, and was
always ready to give me hand. At the end of the season it was really sad to see them have to go, I didn
t see them at school very much, so I really only saw them at practice, but I won t forget them anytime
soon.
I definitely wasn t the best player on the team, and I m still not, but I did have some shining moments.

Summary Of Addition By Garrett Hardin
In the excerpt, Life Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor. , the author Garrett Hardin raised the
question whether rich nations should sustain the needs of the more insufficient nations in the world.
He addresses this question by utilizing the idea of a lifeboat. Hardin metaphorically paints the picture
of a boat, which represents the world, the passengers within the boat, which represent the rich nations,
and the swimmers outside of the boat, which represent the poorer nations in need of financial gain. In
Addition, the author exerts that there is only a significant amount of room available on the boat,
limiting the inclusion of the swimming passengers. Furthermore, the ecologist opens the door to the
different scenarios in which questions the morality of those aboard.Simultaneously, Hardin delivers
the possible outcomes of each solution to strengthen his stance against assisting the poor. Garrett
Hardin, zeroing in on the negative outcomes of allowing others aboard the lifeboat, effectively
supports his claim, through his metaphoric model of the lifeboat , the plethora of scenarios, and the
inclusion of moral theories. In the beginning, Garrett Hardin adequately illustrates the idea of the
Lifeboat Scenario to introduce his logic for not (280). First, Hardin states that there are 50 people
located inside the lifeboat, but he notes that there is room for only 10 more, generating a total capacity
of 60 people allowed onboard. Not to mention, Hardin says

The Role Of Female Circumcision In Western Societies
In Western Societies, such as the United States, women have become more independent both
politically and financially. Yet, in third world countries and patriarchal societies, it is not uncommon to
see women hold subservient roles to men. Many women still follow traditions of the past within their
cultures, such as, female genital mutilation (FGM) or female circumcision a painful surgical procedure
to remove part of the clitoris (or clitoral hood) to suppress female sexuality. Female circumcision is
banned in the United States, as the World Health Organization considers the procedure a violation of
human rights for women and girls ( FGM in the United States ). In a recent case, two physicians and

At first glance, the Malbim would seem to object to the government s ban to FGM. The Malbim
argues that individual freedoms are greater than societal needs. Each individual must pursue his/her
goal of fulfilling the divine purpose, the elevation of the physical through the spiritual. This can be
done through the pursuit of self development and self perfection via Torah observance. If this is the
case, society, according to the Malbim, should help individuals reach moral perfection by giving
support and freedom to individuals. The role of government is to create an environment free from
impediments as much as possible and give the individual the maximum opportunity to pursue good
(Sicker and TanenbaumCHAT 244 245). However, in this case, the doctors are not reaching moral
perfection, as they are violating the Jewish law of bodily mutilation. From a Jewish perspective, these
doctors are straying from self perfection, as this procedure is impeding on the divine purpose. The
Malbim would argue that the government should bring these doctors a step closer to moral perfection,
by banning the practice of FGM on girls. This way, the government would be fulfilling its role of
creating an environment where individuals would be able to reach moral perfection on their own.
Although the government should interfere as little as possible, in the same time,

Integrated Project Delivery Method For Construction
Integrated Project Delivery Method
What is IPD (Integrated Project Delivery) as it applies to construction? Generally speaking here is
how it works: IPD is a process where a team of everyone involved in the project gets together and
create a plan then continue to be involved to see it through completion. The team is bound together by
contract legally and stands to gain or lose financially as a whole by the outcome of the project. The
American Institute of Architects (AIA) currently defines IPD as a project delivery method that
integrates people, systems, business structures and practices into a process that collaboratively
harnesses the talents and insights of all participants to reduce waste and optimize efficiency through
all phases of design, fabrication and construction (Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia 2015). Instead of
each stakeholder having their own side projects all members are stationed in the same pool where they
can exchange ideas. At this point, the project depends on collaboration and team building (Burcin
Karen, 2010).
In a bit more detail, the team can be owner, construction manager, architect, engineers, builders,
contractor, subcontractors, designers and even technical vendors depending on the project. They are
legally bound by a contract from the concept phase through the completion of the project. Each
member of the team is involved has a say in all phases and has a responsibility for completion and
quality of all phases. Unlike traditional

Themes Of The Time Machine
Once in my basketball game, my team was losing by many points. However, we never gave up and
started to make a comeback. The crowd was getting louder as the final seconds approached. There was
2 seconds left, and Julien Flores shot the ball. Swoosh. We had won the game because we never gave
up. Persevering through obstacles is the major theme in H.G. Wells novel titled, The Time Machine .
This novel is about a time traveler who traveled far into the future and encountered strange humanoid
creatures. The world was very different and another species called the Morlocks had stolen his Time
Machine. The Time Traveler persevered through this and he eventually got his Time Machine back
and he travelled back home.
An example of the main theme in The Time Machine being how you should persevere through
obstacles is found on page 104 and H.G. Wells states, So I came back. For a long time I must have
been insensible upon the machine. This evidence show show the main theme of the Time Machine is
that you should never give up because the Time Traveler has been trying to get home for a long time
and he never gave up. He was eventually able to get home and this shows how since the time traveler
was able to get home because he persevered, the main theme in the novel is that you should never give
up. Another piece of evidence that H.G. Wells includes is on page 1 and it states, There I object, said
Filby. Of course a solid body may exist. All real things This evidence shows how the

Analysis Of The Movie The Rye
Catcher in the Rye was a phenomenal work of literature. The novel has been able to withstand the test

coming soon, every detail must amaze the avid reader of the book. This includes, lighting, a flawless
director, a cluster of A list actors, outstanding scenery, and last but certainly not least, a soundtrack
that will knock the viewer of the movie into a sense of amazement. A soundtrack can completely
devastate a movie. If there is a scene where a character in the scene is crying because they lost their
friend, it would definitely be strange if music in the background was Can t Touch This by M.C.
Hammer. Soundtracks tell the audience what to feel whether it would be fear or excitement. With a
soundtrack playing a critical position in a movie, the songs that have been chosen have transcended
more than just the scenes they are played in, and turned into the embodiment of some of the major
themes in the movie. A great selection for the opening song would be a song by Chance the Rapper
called Finish Line . In this song, Chance the Rapper appears to just spout sentences that just come to
head like the stream of consciousness like Holden. When Holden goes on his particular tangents he

The Effects Of Stigma On Functioning On Bipolar Disorder...
The Impact of Stigma on Functioning in Bipolar Disorder Patients Bipolar disorder, also known as
manic depression, is a mood disorder that requires careful medication management during a patient s
lifetime (Halter, 2014, p. 227). Bipolar disorder is described as recurrent episodes of mood changes
ranging from mania to irritability to depression (Halter, 2014, p. 228). Periods of normal functioning
are also recurrent with mood shifts. Often times bipolar disorder goes undiagnosed for many years
which is linked to undesirable outcomes such as suicide (Halter, 2014, p. 227). On the other hand,
many patients with a definite diagnosis report denying their illness because of the stigma that is
associated with mood disorders (Thome, Dargel, Migliavacca, Potter, Jappur, Kapczinski, Cereser,
2011) . Perceived stigma is an attribute that devalues or discriminates against a human being because
of their mental illness (Pedneault, 2014). Stigmatizing attitudes can negatively impact on the patients
psychosocial functioning, behavior tendencies and cognitive function.
Research Appraisal I chose to do an article relating to bipolar disorder patients, because I have come

Liberty In The First American Society
Liberty would be defined in one s own words as, the power to act as one pleases, and being free within
the society in which one stays. The society and the mindset of the majority of the early American
colonists were based around liberty and the whole meaning behind it, and they wanted to make a
society based upon the idea of it. A River View High School teacher says, the society of this period in
time was as close to anarchy as possible (Justice 2016).This, in other words, is saying they had their
own voice in the way they chose to live and pursue their own happiness. The American colonists and
the founding fathers never let anything get in the way of their beliefs, hence the reason they were lead
into so many wars and battles. The colonists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When America was first created, the founding fathers made it under the idea that all men were created
equal. Note, they only stated men, more specifically white men. It wasn t until years after that, 1920,
when women finally got their rights, to finally vote and to finally speak their own opinions, and to not
have to hide behind whatever male figure was in their life, and instead make their own decisions for
themselves. It wasn t until years later, in 1964, when it was made possible for the African American
and other race men became equal and had the freedom to be able to live and do the same thing as
whites. So in other words, the constitution has changed for the better on that note. On the other hand,
the government has also changed for the worse, and a few different ways. Today the government
changed the laws for the protection of people. The second amendment, which has been around since
America was made because obviously the founding fathers knew it was important to protect yourself,
is possibly being changed because the Americans feel that it is harmful to have or own a gun, and that
is something that half the people of America agree with, and half don t. There are other laws that are

Tax Benefits Of The Tax
Under the tax law, certain tax benefits can significantly reduce a taxpayer s regular tax amount. The
alternative minimum tax (AMT) applies to taxpayers with high income by setting a limit on those
benefits. It helps to ensure that those taxpayers pay at least a minimum amount of tax. The AMT is the
excess of the tentative minimum tax over the regular tax. Therefore, the AMT is owed only if the
tentative minimum tax is greater than the regular tax. The tentative minimum tax is figured separately
from the regular tax. In general, compute the tentative minimum tax by:
1. Computing taxable income eliminating or reducing certain exclusions and deductions, and taking
into account differences with respect to when certain items are taken into account in computing
regular taxable income and alternative minimum taxable income (AMTI)
2. Subtracting the AMT exemption amount
3. Multiplying the amount computed in (2) by the appropriate AMT tax rates
4. Subtracting the AMT foreign tax credit (IRS.gov, 2016) (p. 1)
The federal tax law sets the AMT exemption amounts and AMT tax rates. Taxpayers can use the
special capital gain rates in effect for the regular tax if they are lower than the AMT tax rates that
would otherwise apply. Some tax credits that reduce regular tax liability do not reduce AMT tax
liability. If a taxpayer is not liable for AMT this year, but he or she paid AMT in one or more previous

A critique of Ehrlich, David E, and Donald G Rainnie. Prenatal Stress Alters The Development Of
Socioemotional Behavior And Amygdala Neuron Excitability In Rats .
1.0 Background
The research is discussing the effects of prenatal stress (PS) on the development of socioemotional
symptoms as well as neurodevelopmental disorders. The study arises from existing literatures where a
significant relationship has been established between prenatal stress and social deficits such as autism
and attention deficit hypersensitivity disorder among children and schizophrenia among adolescents.
King et al. identifies exposures to environmental hardships and stressful events as the underlying
factor in the development of PS (274). The aspect has a negative impact on the immune and endocrine
system as well as neurological development (Charil et al. 56). Studies have revealed that PS affects
several aspects of brain development in the fetal stage. It increases rate of cell death and reduces rate
of proliferation in the hypothalamus pituitary axis (Schoenfeld and Gould 15).
The research argues that PS affects the amygdala, a socioemotional control center in the brain that
plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders. The claim is
backed by several studies. PS plays a major role in abnormal psychological, cognitive, and behavioral
outcomes in both human and animals. Charil

Mental Health Centers. The serious mentally ill who were supposed to benefit by these developments
were replaced by people who were well off and thought they were sick. Making the problem worse the
serious mentally ill were unable to re enter hospitals because of tighter admissions standards (
Contemporary World Issues 1990). Without hospitalization or the ability to support themselves they
were forced to the streets.
Declining wages have put housing out of reach for many workers. In every state, more than minimum
wage is needed to afford a one or two bedroom apartment. A minimum wage worker would have to
work 87 hours a week to afford a two bedroom apartment (U.S Conference of Mayors 1998). Thus
insufficient income leaves many people homeless.
For families and individuals struggling to pay rent, a serious illness or disability can push them over
the edge into homelessness. This might begin with a lost job, reduction of savings to pay for care, and
eventual eviction.
I feel in writing this essay we should all help the homeless to get back on their feet. They are in
desperate need of a helping hand, to get through this. Other reasons for helping the homeless are, they

weight, they turned to food for comfort. They also faced harassments on a daily basis in public places
and often failed to get promotions at their jobs because of this discrimination. Although prejudice
against the obese isn t something new, it is shocking to see at what point people would go to
discriminate against these individuals. The article highlighted numerous examples and situations
where the overweight were humiliated in public. These

6.0Industry Trends And Agency Issues. 6.1 Industry Trends.
6.0 Industry Trends and Agency Issues 6.1 Industry Trends Over recent years, globalization placed
intense new demands on the transportation and supply chain sector. Given the fluctuations in a number
of related Federal policies, it is recognized that transportation communities nationwide are entering an
unprecedented era of change. As indicated by the preceding Market Analysis (section 4.0), moving
forward, TB T is expected to continue to operate in this highly uncertain business and transportation
environment. Therefore, TB T must position itself to approach new opportunities, risks, and
challenges with an ability to change how the department does business and abandons non core. 6.1.1 A

With two tunnels and four bridges built in the 1920s and 1930s, and bus terminal facilities that are
over a half century old, large scale projects are necessary to provide safe, efficient, resilient, and
modern facilities. Given the magnitude of ongoing investments including the raising of the Bayonne
Bridge roadway and the replacement of the Goethals Bridge, TB T has had to enter into innovative
arrangements for construction, project finance, interagency coordination, and community relations.
6.1.3 Fuel Tax Challenge Complicating TB T s asset invest needs is the fact that the once dependable
fuel tax is no longer producing revenues at the rate required to maintain transportation infrastructure.
According to the Wall Street Journal, improved fuel economy and the rise of hybrid and electric
vehicles means that additional driving won t match higher gasoline sales. Furthermore, how much
people pay for the roads won t necessarily correspond to how much they use them. Traditionally, the
United States has met increased demand by building new facilities that expand capacity, but this is no
longer feasible for a variety of reasons. The time to move through the National Environmental Policy
Act (NEPA) process is often extensive, land acquisition may no longer be possible, and now fuel tax
revenues may be insufficient to pay for new investments in infrastructure. As a result, transportation
agencies and policymakers must explore new

Roles Of Women In The 1800s Essay
Roles of Women in the late 1800s Around the late 1800s, the roles of women were different than
todays. Women could not participate in majority of the occupations that men are allowed too. Women
could not vote, they were unauthorized to own property, and were restricted to working. Women were
only seen as stay at home wives, and completed all the duties as a housewife. Women cooked,
cleaned, and nurtured the children while the fathers worked outside the home. The womanhood was
considered to be piety and domesticity with submissiveness and passivity. Sarah Josepha Hale, editor
of Godey s Lady s book, characterized women as one who was timid and delicate, demanded
protection, and possessed a sweet dependency. Men were symbolized as aggressive, materialistic, and
competitive; therefore, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From 1870 till 1900, the number of wage earning women flourish by relatively 70 percent. Beliefs
about the womanhood decided which woman could enter the work field. In 1890, nearly 5 percent of
married white women, in the neighborhood of 41 percent single women, and around 30 percent of
African American women worked outside the homes. Women often worked as domestic servants,
doing the jobs of nursing, office work, teaching, and sales. By the mid 1870s, states in the North
passed the Married Women Property Act, which allowed married women to own and control property
in their own right. In some states, the law varied widely; however, this epitomized the transfer of
property rights and made improvements to the status of American married women. Teachers from the
North were selected to educate former slaves. In 1869, over 9 thousand teachers were initiated to
instruct former slaves. Over half a million African Americans, ranging from all ages, were inducted in
elementary schools. Before the Civil War, it was impossible for most southern black females to

George V. Jordan Marsh Co. Brief
1. George v. Jordan Marsh Co., 359 Mass. 244 (Mass. 1971) 2. Facts: Plaintiff Irene George (P) is
filing suit against Defendant Jordan Marsh Co. (D) for mental anguish and emotional distress which
resulted in two heart attacks. D sold goods on credit to P s emancipated son, who purchased them on P
s account. D alleged that P stated in writing that she would pay the debts (which she did not incur),
even though it is understood that P did not make this guarantee. D then attempted to intimidate P into
paying these debts she did not owe by calling her at late hours, by mailing her bills, by sending her
letters stating late charges were being added on and that her credit had been revoked, and by numerous
other tactics. P suffered great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
common law which would satisfy these actions as described. Court states that no such common law
exists mainly because an issue such as this has not been dealt with by the court, it does not inherently
mean there is no tort present. The court also looks at Restatement 2d § 46 which states One who by
extreme and outrageous conduct intentionally or recklessly causes severe emotional distress to another
is subject to liability for such emotional distress, and if bodily harm to the other results from it, for
such bodily harm. Restatements 2d would consider the repeated attempt at unnecessary debt recovery
the extreme and outrageous conduct. 6. Holding: As stated in the case: one who, without a privilege to
do so, by extreme and outrageous conduct intentionally causes severe emotional distress to another,
with bodily harm resulting from such distress, is subject to liability for such emotional distress and
bodily harm even though he has committed no heretofore recognized common law tort. 7. Court s
Order: As a result of this holding the court has established sufficient law entitles P to have her case
heard before trial court. 8. Reason: We can understand the policy rational of the Court in making this
decision. Being that there was no explicit law on the books, the Court felt that the best interest of
society would call for an establishment of such a rule to allow the case to be heard. As such it is
possible for a reasonable person

Ice Fili Is A Large Scale Domestic Ice Cream Market Essay
Although Ice Fili is a large scale domestic ice cream producer it must compete with other large and
small firms in the overall ice cream industry. To breakdown this dynamic I will begin my report with
an analysis of the overall ice cream industry in Russia, and will then move on to an analysis on Ice Fili
s competitive advantages, and strategy. Lastly after analyzing these two areas I will provide my
recommendations for Ice Fili over the next three to five years.
External Environment Analysis (Five Forces)
Threat of New Entrants: High. In the Russian ice cream market we see competitors of ranging sizes
competing against one another. 30% of the domestic market is made up of regional small scale
producers that have come into the market because it was easy for them to pivot from producing frozen
foods to ice cream with very limited capital. Outside of regional producers foreign ice cream
companies can enter into the Russian ice cream market whenever they so choose by importing their
products to distributors. Foreign companies have been controlled as of late due to instability of the
Russian currency against the U.S dollar, but even with this currency risk some foreign competitors
have been able to survive by making large capital investments, and producing their product within
Russia instead of importing it.
Degree of Rivalry: Medium. The degree of rivalry within the industry is balanced in that a few factors
lend to strong rivalry while a similar amount do not. Because

Pearl Harbor Inaccuracies
Pearl Harbor is a love story film set in Pearl Harbor during World War II, but many inaccuracies are
found throughout the film concerning the war. The film s depiction of the events and chronology of
World War II are inaccurate. Details and the behaviors of characters during the war are also
inaccurately portrayed, and certain emotions and messages are wanted to be conveyed by the director
of the film, Michael Bay. Pearl Harbor inaccurately depicts the true chronology and events of World
War II. For starters, the crop duster biplane shown in the beginning shot was not commercially
available until the late 30 s, and crop dusting was not a profession until after the end of the war.
Events in the movie are presented realistically in the sense that Japan does attack Pearl Harbor;
however, it is what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the movie shows the B 25 s only bombing Tokyo during the Doolittle Raid when in
reality, three major industrial cities were bombed. When the movie showed the Japanese attack on
Pearl Harbor the nurses could be seen wearing casual clothing. These nurses, being naval employees,
would have been required to wear their uniforms at all times in real life. Buildings are also shown
accurately, as proven when the White House in the movie is shown to have air conditioners on its roof.
Overall, the look of the film inaccurately reflects the war, be it because of the character s modern
haircuts or the fact that the Marlboro cigarettes shown in various scenes were not manufactured until
much later. The film s overall look at the war is further brought down by the awkward love triangle
between Rafe, Danny, and Evelyn. So far, the film s illustration of events, details, and overall look at
the war have been inaccurate; even more inaccuracies can be found when the characters themselves
are

Summary Of The Days Of Good King
In the days of good King Harry the Second of England he of the warring sons there were certain
forests in the north country set aside for the King s hunting, and no man might shoot deer therein
under penalty of death. These forests were guarded by the King s Foresters, the chief of whom, in each
wood, was no mean man but equal in authority to the Sheriff in his walled town, or even to my lord
Bishop in his abbey. One of the greatest of royal preserves was Sherwood and Barnesdale forests near
the two towns of Nottingham and Barnesdale. Here for some years dwelt one Hugh Fitzooth as Head
Forester, with his good wife and son Robert. The boy had been born in Lockesley town in the year
1160, stern records say and was often called Lockesley, or Rob of Lockesley. He was a comely, well
knit stripling, and as soon as he was strong enough to walk his chief delight was to go with his father
into the forest. As soon as his right arm received thew and sinew he learned to draw the long bow and
speed a true arrow. While on winter evenings his greatest joy was to hear his father tell of bold Will o
the Green, the outlaw, who for many summers defied the King s Foresters and feasted with his men
upon King s deer. And on other stormy days the boy learned to whittle out a straight shaft for the long
bow, and tip it with gray goose feathers. The fond mother sighed when she saw the boy s face light up
at these woodland tales. She was of gentle birth, and had hoped to see her son famous

  • 2. Fmri, The New Aspects Of Deception Detection fMRI, THE NEW ASPECTS OF DECEPTION DETECTION INTRODUCTION If deception becomes human behaviour, lie detection will play key role of proving their deceit. For a century, researchers studied significantly about lying and deception as the human behaviour in scientific, philosophical and legal aspects (Ford, 2006) and attempted to create the instruments to detect lies. Many techniques were developed to detect deception and determine the truth (Kleinmuntz and Szucko, 1984 cited in National Research Council, 2003). In early of the 20th century, lie detection was invented by using physiological responses as indicators of deception, known as the polygraph (National Research Council, 2003). Polygraph has been used in many objectives, for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, the definition of human deception will be demonstrated followed by the historical background of lie detection and development of the polygraph. After that theoretical and drawbacks of polygraph are reviewed. Moreover, fMRI will be explained in scientific aspect. Finally, the evaluation of fMRI on human deception and its benefits will be shown to complete the idea of the new aspect of detection deception. What is the Human Deception? Many researchers used to define deception in various definitions. For example, Mitchell, 1986 defines deception as a false communication that tends to benefit the communicator which is a broad meaning and describes many acts as deceit. Nonetheless, there are many people who disagree with this (Mitchell, 1986 cited in Vrij, 2008, 12). While, Vrij, 2008 defines lying as an intentional act also implies that if two people contradict each other, this does not automatically mean that one of them is lying (Vrij, 2008, 14). Thus, it can be explained that perception depends on action s purpose of communicator and also the perception of the receiver. A History of Lie Detection and Development of Polygraph In China, 1000 B.C., the lie detection was logically used for the first time. Suspects were tested by filling their mouths with a handful of dry rice and, then, it is spat out. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Karl Popper The Enemy Of Certainty Analysis In the three part informative bibliography Karl Popper, the enemy of certainty, published by The Guardian, scientist and philosopher Karl Popper s perspective on science is identified and discussed. Author Liz Williams describes how Karl Popper was driven by a passion for learning and understanding the world around him, and eventually grew to reject the ideas of empiricism and positivism. Popper states that deductive reasoning, rather than inductive reasoning, should be used to evaluate a theory based on the idea that proving a theory false provides a stronger argument compared to proving a theory true. Popper also argues that theories cannot be considered scientific theories unless they are able to be proven false, or are falsifiable. They must be able to be tested, and have the ability to be proven false through those tests, before it can be considered a scientific theory. Popper argues that scientific revolutions come about ... Popper s scientific philosophy was solely based on truth, based on the idea that new scientific theories are generated when old scientific theories are proven to be false; he states that in order for a theory to be scientific, it must be falsifiable. On the other hand, Kuhn s philosophy was based on thought, and how scientist s collective thoughts and theories change as concepts and practices change with time. These two individuals have directly opposing philosophies truth versus thought. Finally, Lakatos scientific philosophy acts as a happy medium between the two, describing science and scientific revolutions as both truth and thought, although he did emphasize that truth may be a more reliable factor. Hmong clan names are equivalent to American last names. First names identify people and last names identify clans. The 18 clans provide life time membership and ongoing material and spiritual support to their members from birth to death. Newborns are given the father s clan name, which they cannot change. For that reason, Hmong women retain their clan name when they get married (Moua, 1995). The foundation of Hmong life is marriage and family (Millett, 2002). An ancient ritual requires the groom to pay a bride price, a negotiated sum of money paid to the bride s parents. Hmong newlyweds live with the husband s parents until they have two or more children. However, Hmong culture expects the last born married son, his wife, and children to permanently live with, support, and care for his parents and grandparents until their death. Unfortunately, time honored Hmong traditions are challenged by American culture. For example, there is conflict between Hmong Christians and Hmong Animists. Animists sacrifice animals to worship spirits; they believe that all living things have spirits (Brittan, 1997). Hmong Christians worship God and condemn animal sacrifice. For my essay, I am going to look at the attitudes towards women, both from men and other women, and the significant role that that women had in telling the stories in American musical theatre. Showboat was the first musical of its kind. Up to this point, musicals consisted of songs and dances, with often feeble storylines based around the big stars. Showboat had a real story, adapted from a novel, and both the singing and dancing told the story. At the beginning of Showboat, after we have been introduced to the main characters, we hear the main female characters attitude towards men and love. When this fails, her husband has a try. He sings A woman is a sometime thing , this song shows the attitude of the men towards their women in the community, that they are less respected than men. Bess is clearly outside the close knit Catfish Row community. She is a bar girl and drug addict, who is in total contrast to the stereotypical, hard working, religious women of Catfish Row. Crown (Bess partner) kills a gambling partner and leaves Bess in Catfish Row while he runs away from the police. Porgy and Bess become a couple, and we see Bess changing. She starts to dress like the women of Catfish Row and gives money to help bury Clara s husband (who Crown killed). The women s attitude towards her changes and they stop seeing her as a tart and start looking at her as a friend. Bess doesn t have a theme of her own, instead adopting part of the theme of whoever she s with. The loneliness theme that she absorbs is used by Gershwin to show that Bess love can take away Porgy s loneliness. Later this theme adoption is used to link Bess with Sportin life. We are also shown Bess dependence on other people as she doesn t sing a song on her own. By using Porgy s range of a perfect fifth (used throughout the musical to show community and togetherness) she shows that she is starting to fit in. Then her past catches ... As the sun starts to set, the sky starts to get illuminated not by one, but by millions and millions of other stars! This is what the Aztecs and the Mayas saw every night. Both the Aztec and the Maya were a powerful and advanced civilization that were created separately from the Western European civilizations and did an amazing job doing so. Just like many other Ancient Civilizations the night sky plays a significant role in their society. Astronomy, Religion, culture and architecture are all aligned the stars. Both the Aztecs and the Maya originated in what is now the southern part of Mexico and other parts of Central America. The Maya are the predecessors of the Aztecs and much of their customs are seen the Aztec culture. But the Maya were not the first; there were the Olmec s, Toltec s, and the Chichimec s before the Maya and Aztec. Progressively you see that each successive civilization impacted the next in aspects of the religion and the astronomy. The astronomy that the Aztecs and the Maya developed was phenomenal. They were both great at predicting eclipses, as well as being the civilizations with the most accurate synodic periods of the Moon, Earth, Venus, and Mars at that time period. In the second stage, during 1885 and 1886, Seurat dispensed with the earth pigments and also limited the number of individual pigments in his paints. Analysis Of Mississippi Goddam By Nina Simone It is a jaunty ragtime melody that fools listeners into briefly perceiving the number as a feel good pop song, yet sustains its relevance by acknowledging the continued failure of a full realization of Black freedom a century after the Thirteenth Amendment. [1. Sound of the Break: Jazz and the Failures of Emancipation Bridget R. Cooks American Quarterly (June 2016) no. 2 330http://muse.jhu.edu/article/622084] It took Nina Simone an hour to write Mississippi Goddam , which is a song based on the place names of oppression. It was written immediately in the wake of the 1963 church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, where four African American girls, none older than fourteen, were murdered while at Sunday school. In this song, she mocked government promises, stereotypical insults, and the continuing warning of public leaders to Go Slow , which the backup singers call out Too Slow! repeatedly. This song had no intention of being uplifting with lyrics like we shall overcome , instead it is a song about a movement. A woman who did not have much to begin with and small hope for the American future sings, Oh but this whole country is full of lies... You re all gonna die and die like flies. Nina Simone never thought she was going to stay in the show business. When she first got into show business, she wasn t even a blues singer or jazz singer. She was a classical pianist who studied to become the first black classical pianist in America, and that s all that was on her mind and what she prepared to be. Her mother was a preacher and took her to the revivals, where she started to play the piano at church. Revival meetings were some of the most exciting times for Simone, since the music was so intense and the feeling of going out of yourself was the best, especially since she would lead these meetings. When Simone was seven, the choir of her church gave a program at the local theater, and she was on it. However, later in the Apology, Socrates contradicts himself when he explains why he has led a mostly private life, saying that if I had long ago attempted to take part in politics, I should have died long ago (Plato 58). Socrates believes a man who really fights for justice must lead a private, not a public, life (Plato 59). This goes against what he has been saying for the rest of the trial and demonstrates the unrealistic quality of the high standards to which he holds the government and leaders. If Socrates says it is dangerous for proponents of justice to live a public life, it becomes extremely difficult for politicians to be virtuous and morally good, since politicians live essentially their whole lives in the public sphere. When I first started I barely knew what Water Polo even was, I had nothing to compair it to and no expectations. I started to play Water polo in my Freshmen year, not knowing what I was jumping into; I didn t know what swim sets were, I could barely swim, and I was very out of shape. But I also meet some really amazing people, they were the main reason I stayed in the sport. I became friends with a fellow Freshmen on my team, she had being playing club Water polo for a long time before joining the Southridge Water polo team. She really helped me in my performance in games; she worked with me on my shooting, leg work, and just the basics in general. But she wasn t the only friend I made on the team; I got to know some Seniors who were really nice. One of them even gave me a crown that said Varsity Water Polo 2016 . When she gave it to me, I asked, Is this one of those Burger King crowns? and she replied, No! I got it .. from the crown store! Nevertheless, that is still one of my favorite memories. It was just so random that I loved it, and still remember it to this day. Another Senior was really tall and really nice, she always asked me how I was doing, and was always ready to give me hand. At the end of the season it was really sad to see them have to go, I didn t see them at school very much, so I really only saw them at practice, but I won t forget them anytime soon. • 27. Summary Of Addition By Garrett Hardin In the excerpt, Life Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor. , the author Garrett Hardin raised the question whether rich nations should sustain the needs of the more insufficient nations in the world. He addresses this question by utilizing the idea of a lifeboat. Hardin metaphorically paints the picture of a boat, which represents the world, the passengers within the boat, which represent the rich nations, and the swimmers outside of the boat, which represent the poorer nations in need of financial gain. In Addition, the author exerts that there is only a significant amount of room available on the boat, limiting the inclusion of the swimming passengers. Furthermore, the ecologist opens the door to the different scenarios in which questions the morality of those aboard.Simultaneously, Hardin delivers the possible outcomes of each solution to strengthen his stance against assisting the poor. Garrett Hardin, zeroing in on the negative outcomes of allowing others aboard the lifeboat, effectively supports his claim, through his metaphoric model of the lifeboat , the plethora of scenarios, and the inclusion of moral theories. In the beginning, Garrett Hardin adequately illustrates the idea of the Lifeboat Scenario to introduce his logic for not (280). First, Hardin states that there are 50 people located inside the lifeboat, but he notes that there is room for only 10 more, generating a total capacity of 60 people allowed onboard. Yet, in third world countries and patriarchal societies, it is not uncommon to see women hold subservient roles to men. At first glance, the Malbim would seem to object to the government s ban to FGM. The Malbim argues that individual freedoms are greater than societal needs. Each individual must pursue his/her goal of fulfilling the divine purpose, the elevation of the physical through the spiritual. This can be done through the pursuit of self development and self perfection via Torah observance. If this is the case, society, according to the Malbim, should help individuals reach moral perfection by giving support and freedom to individuals. The role of government is to create an environment free from impediments as much as possible and give the individual the maximum opportunity to pursue good (Sicker and TanenbaumCHAT 244 245). However, in this case, the doctors are not reaching moral perfection, as they are violating the Jewish law of bodily mutilation. From a Jewish perspective, these doctors are straying from self perfection, as this procedure is impeding on the divine purpose. The Malbim would argue that the government should bring these doctors a step closer to moral perfection, by banning the practice of FGM on girls. This way, the government would be fulfilling its role of creating an environment where individuals would be able to reach moral perfection on their own. Generally speaking here is how it works: IPD is a process where a team of everyone involved in the project gets together and create a plan then continue to be involved to see it through completion. The team is bound together by contract legally and stands to gain or lose financially as a whole by the outcome of the project. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) currently defines IPD as a project delivery method that integrates people, systems, business structures and practices into a process that collaboratively harnesses the talents and insights of all participants to reduce waste and optimize efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication and construction (Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia 2015). Instead of each stakeholder having their own side projects all members are stationed in the same pool where they can exchange ideas. At this point, the project depends on collaboration and team building (Burcin Karen, 2010). In a bit more detail, the team can be owner, construction manager, architect, engineers, builders, contractor, subcontractors, designers and even technical vendors depending on the project. They are legally bound by a contract from the concept phase through the completion of the project. The crowd was getting louder as the final seconds approached. There was 2 seconds left, and Julien Flores shot the ball. Swoosh. We had won the game because we never gave up. Persevering through obstacles is the major theme in H.G. Wells novel titled, The Time Machine . This novel is about a time traveler who traveled far into the future and encountered strange humanoid creatures. The world was very different and another species called the Morlocks had stolen his Time Machine. The Time Traveler persevered through this and he eventually got his Time Machine back and he travelled back home. An example of the main theme in The Time Machine being how you should persevere through obstacles is found on page 104 and H.G. Wells states, So I came back. For a long time I must have been insensible upon the machine. This evidence show show the main theme of the Time Machine is that you should never give up because the Time Traveler has been trying to get home for a long time and he never gave up. He was eventually able to get home and this shows how since the time traveler was able to get home because he persevered, the main theme in the novel is that you should never give up. Present day with a movie of the bestselling novel is coming soon, every detail must amaze the avid reader of the book. This includes, lighting, a flawless director, a cluster of A list actors, outstanding scenery, and last but certainly not least, a soundtrack that will knock the viewer of the movie into a sense of amazement. A soundtrack can completely devastate a movie. If there is a scene where a character in the scene is crying because they lost their friend, it would definitely be strange if music in the background was Can t Touch This by M.C. Hammer. Soundtracks tell the audience what to feel whether it would be fear or excitement. With a soundtrack playing a critical position in a movie, the songs that have been chosen have transcended more than just the scenes they are played in, and turned into the embodiment of some of the major themes in the movie. The Impact of Stigma on Functioning in Bipolar Disorder Patients Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a mood disorder that requires careful medication management during a patient s lifetime (Halter, 2014, p. 227). Bipolar disorder is described as recurrent episodes of mood changes ranging from mania to irritability to depression (Halter, 2014, p. 228). Periods of normal functioning are also recurrent with mood shifts. Often times bipolar disorder goes undiagnosed for many years which is linked to undesirable outcomes such as suicide (Halter, 2014, p. 227). On the other hand, many patients with a definite diagnosis report denying their illness because of the stigma that is associated with mood disorders (Thome, Dargel, Migliavacca, Potter, Jappur, Kapczinski, Cereser, 2011) . Perceived stigma is an attribute that devalues or discriminates against a human being because of their mental illness (Pedneault, 2014). Stigmatizing attitudes can negatively impact on the patients psychosocial functioning, behavior tendencies and cognitive function. The society and the mindset of the majority of the early American colonists were based around liberty and the whole meaning behind it, and they wanted to make a society based upon the idea of it. A River View High School teacher says, the society of this period in time was as close to anarchy as possible (Justice 2016).This, in other words, is saying they had their own voice in the way they chose to live and pursue their own happiness. Today the government changed the laws for the protection of people. • 35. Tax Benefits Of The Tax Under the tax law, certain tax benefits can significantly reduce a taxpayer s regular tax amount. The alternative minimum tax (AMT) applies to taxpayers with high income by setting a limit on those benefits. It helps to ensure that those taxpayers pay at least a minimum amount of tax. The AMT is the excess of the tentative minimum tax over the regular tax. Therefore, the AMT is owed only if the tentative minimum tax is greater than the regular tax. The tentative minimum tax is figured separately from the regular tax. In general, compute the tentative minimum tax by: 1. Computing taxable income eliminating or reducing certain exclusions and deductions, and taking into account differences with respect to when certain items are taken into account in computing regular taxable income and alternative minimum taxable income (AMTI) 2. Subtracting the AMT exemption amount 3. Multiplying the amount computed in (2) by the appropriate AMT tax rates 4. Subtracting the AMT foreign tax credit (IRS.gov, 2016) (p. 1) The federal tax law sets the AMT exemption amounts and AMT tax rates. Taxpayers can use the special capital gain rates in effect for the regular tax if they are lower than the AMT tax rates that would otherwise apply. Prenatal Stress Alters The Development Of Socioemotional Behavior And Amygdala Neuron Excitability In Rats . 1.0 Background The research is discussing the effects of prenatal stress (PS) on the development of socioemotional symptoms as well as neurodevelopmental disorders. The study arises from existing literatures where a significant relationship has been established between prenatal stress and social deficits such as autism and attention deficit hypersensitivity disorder among children and schizophrenia among adolescents. King et al. identifies exposures to environmental hardships and stressful events as the underlying factor in the development of PS (274). The aspect has a negative impact on the immune and endocrine system as well as neurological development (Charil et al. 56). Studies have revealed that PS affects several aspects of brain development in the fetal stage. It increases rate of cell death and reduces rate of proliferation in the hypothalamus pituitary axis (Schoenfeld and Gould 15). The research argues that PS affects the amygdala, a socioemotional control center in the brain that plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders. The claim is backed by several studies. PS plays a major role in abnormal psychological, cognitive, and behavioral outcomes in both human and animals. Charil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film s depiction of the events and chronology of World War II are inaccurate. Details and the behaviors of characters during the war are also inaccurately portrayed, and certain emotions and messages are wanted to be conveyed by the director of the film, Michael Bay. These forests were guarded by the King s Foresters, the chief of whom, in each wood, was no mean man but equal in authority to the Sheriff in his walled town, or even to my lord Bishop in his abbey. One of the greatest of royal preserves was Sherwood and Barnesdale forests near the two towns of Nottingham and Barnesdale. Here for some years dwelt one Hugh Fitzooth as Head Forester, with his good wife and son Robert. The boy had been born in Lockesley town in the year 1160, stern records say and was often called Lockesley, or Rob of Lockesley. He was a comely, well knit stripling, and as soon as he was strong enough to walk his chief delight was to go with his father into the forest. As soon as his right arm received thew and sinew he learned to draw the long bow and speed a true arrow. While on winter evenings his greatest joy was to hear his father tell of bold Will o the Green, the outlaw, who for many summers defied the King s Foresters and feasted with his men upon King s deer. And on other stormy days the boy learned to whittle out a straight shaft for the long bow, and tip it with gray goose feathers. The fond mother sighed when she saw the boy s face light up at these woodland tales. She was of gentle birth, and had hoped to see her son famous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
