The Death Penalty Is Wrong !
The Death Penalty is wrong!! Imagine Sierrah coming to court and hearing the judge say she is
sentence to die. Imagine waking up every day in a cell waiting to die. There are no contact visits and
she is in a cell 23 hours of the day by herself. She wait on death row for two decades until finally her
day of execution comes. The guard comes up to cell twenty eight and says it s time to go and takes her
to the death house. She gets the last meal and says final goodbyes before being strapped to a gurney
and asked to say her very last words. Family slowly watches her die and soon they take the body to
prison cemetery. So, is the death penalty right for America? There have been people that were
convicted of a crime they did not do. Innocent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inmates are executed by lethal injection which is a combination of drugs. Sodium thiopental was
chosen to render the person deeply unconscious. Pancuronium bromide, which causes the person to
lose the ability to breathe. The potassium chloride is extremely deadly because it stops the heart.
Capital punishment is still legal in 31 US states but as the drugs needed for execution get harder to
come by, states are getting creative ( How America Executes Its Prisoners 1). Seventeen have executed
260 inmates three states Texas, Florida and Georgia account for more than half of those . ( How
America Executes Its Prisoners. 1). The US began to turn to a one drug method and this has caused a
major lawsuit. In 2014, Tennessee said that when the drugs for can t be found then the state can use
the electric chair. Utah has went back to using the firing squad and Arkansas plans to kill 8 men before
they run out of drugs ( How America Executes Its Prisoners. 2). There has been a halt on executions
but many states are appealing to reinstate the death penalty. Texas has done the most executions than
any other state. The death penalty is an enormous problem in America because innocent people are
being put to death. When the courts find out that a person is innocent it s too late because he s already
dead. The death penalty also cost tax payers a lot of money and are paying for the prisoner to be
housed, fed, and security. Tax payers often pay for the drugs to

Emily Dickinson Essay
amp;#8220;Best Things dwell out of Sight ;(#998) describes one of America amp;#8217;s greatest
poets. She dwelled out of sight for most of her life and her poems, with the exception of seven
published anonymously, remained out of sight until well after her death. Many literary scholars have
attempted a biography on this mysterious woman and poet and yet none are conclusive. Dickinson
remains an enigma even today but biographical speculation allows us to analyze some of her poetry
even though we may be completely inaccurate about what we presuppose.
There are some facts about Emily Elizabeth Dickinson that we know for certain. She was born on
December 10, 1830 and is recognized as one of America amp;#8217;s greatest poets. She had an ...

After leaving school she returned home and spent the remainder of her life there. She took occasional
trips but always returned home to her sanctuary and eventually stopped travelling and even leaving her
house completely. She corresponded with her confidantes and friends through letters, rarely seeing
them.
The men she corresponded with during her life include Benjamin Newton, a law student; Reverend
Charles Wadsworth, a Philadelphia minister; Thomas Higginson, a literary critic and Civil War hero,
and Otis Lord, a judge who had been her father amp;#8217;s closest friend. She regarded these men as
intellectual advisers as well as friends. Although many of them found her poetry to be fascinating,
none advised her to publish them.
Dickinson wrote the majority of her poetry during the 1860 amp;#8217;s at which time she had
become increasingly reclusive. She began wearing only white dresses and she hardly left her home, let
alone Amherst. Although she occasionally visited friends, by the time she was forty years of age, she
refused invitations to leave home and spent the remainder of her life taking care of her parents until
they died (her father died in 1847, her mother died in 1882). Emily herself became bedridden during
the last year of her life and her sister, Lavinia, nursed her until

Breath, Eyes, Memory By Edwidge Danticat
Struggles Between One Another Deepka Chopra once made a statement, When you struggle with your
partner, you are struggling with yourself. Every fault you see in them touches a denied weakness in
yourself. (Deepka Chopra). In Breath, Eyes, Memory, Martine and Sophie both had many struggles
that were caused or involved by one another. Breath, Eyes, Memory, by Edwidge Danticat, is an
intriguing story about an impoverished, close knit family that experiences many challenges through
another due to their many differences. Throughout Breath, Eyes, Memory, Danticat uses hyperbole,
imagery, and symbolism to develop that struggle within a person can impact others around them.
Moreover, Danticat uses hyperbole to develop the struggle of Martine. While Sophie visits ... Show

Since Sophie got tired of Martine testing her, she decided to rip her veil: My flesh ripped apart as I
pressed the pestle into it (Danticat 87). The reader is able to depict Sophie getting a pestle and pushing
it into her vagina. This is a struggle Sophie had to cope with because it caused her a lot of pain. To
help deal with her pain, Sophie took therapy classes and had many practices: I didn t feel guilty about
burning my mother s name anymore (Danticat 207). A person can imagine Sophie writing down
Martine s name and throwing it into the fire. Martine has caused Sophie a lot of pain so burning her
pain can open doors for a new beginning. While Sophie had her own struggles, Martine was struggling
with the baby: She stabbed her stomach with an old rusty knife (Danticat 229). Martine pleaded for a
lot of people to help her. Most of Martine s struggle came from how Sophie was conceived. The act of
Martine gruesomely stabbing her stomach helps the reader visualize how she committed suicide and
how she could not have the baby. Danticat uses imagery to develop how the struggles of Martine and
Sophie correlate with each

Analysis Of Dutchman And The Ethics Of Living Jim Crow
When analyzing the works Dutchman and The Ethics of Living Jim Crow the message the authors are
trying to convey become clear through their effects on the reader. In my essay I will explain how the
authors use literary terms to help the reader gain a better knowledge in their work. In Amira Baraka s
work Dutchman symbolism has a major effect on the overall message as a whole. Although, we see
many forms of symbolism there are two that really jump out to me. First, when Lula murders Clay.
That to me is a symbol of the racism and what it does to its victims especially back in that time period.
Clay puts in a great effort to fit in with the people around him and to be accepted and saw as equal as

The train in the story may be a symbol of the life of a black man in today s society. We live make a
mistake or fall into an unknown trap then you die. Basically, opportunities and chances don t come
often for the minority male species. The long train ride allows a man to feel the freedom he so desires
and ends once that freedom is no longer available. On the other hand Richard Wright writes about life
experiences living under the Jim Crow laws. The informative and chronological style of writing
Richard uses deeply affects the reader while taking in what is really happening during this time. He
begins by giving us the harsh reality behind the racism he s dealing with. Wright begins by describing
the land to show us how not only did the South have a plethora of racist acts but, the towns were also
set up in a racist manner. Wright linked anything green to white people because the only green in town
was found where the white people lived. Blacks didn t get quite good as their yards were filled with
cinders. The blacks and whites were also separated by railroad tracks. Of course, the blacks were
behind the railroad tracks maybe to emphasize white supremacy. The Jim Crow laws simply meant
that white people could treat blacks any way they wanted to and blacks couldn t retaliate. We received
this message very clearly when Richard began to talk about the play wars he and his friends had

The Development And Challenge Of 3d Printing
Title
The Development and Challenge of 3D Printing
Introduction
In recent years 3D printing arouses focus of public with appearing in a huge number of areas. In this
essay, it will describe 3D printing which is one important application of rapid prototyping.
Rapid prototyping (RP) is general for several techniques, which read in data from computer aided
design (CAD) drawings and manufacture automatically three dimensional objects layer by layer
according to the virtual design (Sanna 2008).
3D printing also known as additive manufacturing is any of various processes used to make a three
dimensional object. In 3D printing, additive processes are used in which successive layers of material
are laid down under computer control. These objects can be almost any shape or geometry and are
produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot.
Due to the limitation of space this essay will introduce the basic principle of just four kinds of main
printers nowadays and their positive application in construction. The essay left will focus on the two
main challenge this technology is facing now and predict the possible development direction.
Basic principle
At the begin of manufacturer,3D printable models ought to be created by a computer aided design
(CAD) package, 3D scanner or via a plain digital camera and photogrammetry software This step is
called Modeling . Following the modeling, the second step is printing . Although the

Demand Of Demand And Demand Essay
Demand Determinants The concept of demand is derived from the willingness and ability of
consumers to buy goods or services at a particular time depending on prices and preferences. In most
cases, the demand for goods and services depends on the affordability and comfort of consumers to
purchase them, while holding other factors as constant (Hubbard O Brien, p. 70 2013). Basic
economic concepts of demand state that an increase in price affects the demand in a negative way; as
prices of gasoline increase, the demand should go down. The concept or law of demand is focused on
the correlation between the price of gasoline and the quantity of demand for the product. From my
observation, consumers are constantly looking for ways to minimize their consumption of gasoline.
This century, motorists are opting for fuel efficient automobiles with the aim of reducing their overall
fuel consumption. The theoretical concept of price adjustment by gasoline consumers can affect Edgar
s idea to open a retail gas station. Whenever retail fuel prices increase, in the long run, consumers may
retaliate by cutting off the frequency of gas consumption by reducing time spent driving, reduce the
number of times they use their car and other methods that will save them from using more money in
gas stations. In the short run, the change in price of gasoline per gallon is not sufficiently volatile to
affect consumption significantly. The graph below shows U.S. National Average in gasoline prices

Louisiana Purchase Dbq
Louisiana Purchase Seminar Write Up The Louisiana Purchase today, is considered one of the greatest
things an acting president has ever done. However, when Jefferson did buy the territory, it was viewed
by many of his fellow Republicans as Federalistic, and an act of viewing the Constitution very loosely.
Many claimed that he was abandoning his political principles, which he had fought for so strongly in
the past. However, amid all the claims of his betrayal of his political principles by buying the territory
without consulting congress, it is clear that he didn t abandon them, because he did it for an agrarian
expansion, and because he believed that it was best for Americans. Both of these reasons are two of
the main ideals of the Republican ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was for several reasons, primarily being the hypocrisy of using the necessary and proper clause
after having attacked Hamilton relentlessly for having used the same clause to set up a National Bank.
It is obvious just how much hypocrisy was taking place when we see Jefferson comments regarding
the National Bank, in which he said, To take a single step beyond the boundaries specially drawn
around powers of Congress is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible
of any decision. By using the necessary and proper clause, Jefferson managed to avoid having to go
through Congress to get approval, and also managed to avoid the state governments, just as Hamilton
did. This was the exact opposite of what a typical Republican would do, as they believed that the
states should have much more power than the federal government. Given that he appears to go against
many of the Republican main ideals, he was considered by several as a neo Federalist. However, even
amongst all of this, it is still clear that he didn t throw away his political ideals as many said he did,
which can be seen in the ways that he did all of this to help the people who he was

The Disappearance Analysis
The short story The Disappearance by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni basically is about an Indian man
who lived in America. At first, he married an educated Indian girl. However, she, unlike her husband,
did not have a traditional mindset. She eventually left him, and this was something which he could not
accept. He started to recall the times when she was with him. He was in a state of denial that his wife
could possibly leave him when he thought he had been good to him, and that he had done enough to
satisfy her. However, this was not the case. His wife wanted a modern husband one who would let her
have her say, and not only bringing her to Yosemite Park. He tried to forget about her, but he could not
do so. He then came across a light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was also oppressed psychologically because she was restricted and could not live the life she
wanted even though they were living in a free country. She eventually escaped and left behind the
only product of their marriage which she really loved her son. This must be a hard decision for a
mother to leave her child behind, but we can say that she is not entirely irresponsible. This is because
chances of her child growing up normally like his peers would be unlikely if they were to be in hiding
everyday. By leaving her son behind, the wife could ensure that he would be taken care of, at least
financially, by her husband. She could not guarantee that for her child given the circumstances she
would be facing by escaping from her husband. So, this point here reinforces Feminist criticism.
However, there is also a quote in the story which undermines Feminist criticism. She d been out for
her evening walk, she took one every day after he got back from the office. Yes, yes, always alone, she
said that was her time for herself . Here, we can see that the wife was allowed to go for a walk every
evening. She was not really restricted to be at home 24/7. This point here then undermines Feminist
criticism.
Besides that, the characters can also show us whether the short story reinforces or undermines
Feminist criticism. There are two main characters in The Disappearance , which are the husband

Compare And Contrast Alexander III And Alexander II
In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting the different reforms implemented by both Alexander
II and Alexander III. Also looking at how it effected Russia in general
After the Crimean war Russia had suffered a devastating defeat, Alexander II decided that there had to
be change in his country in order to make Russia successful again. Alexander II was also known as the
Liberator , this was mainly due towards his reform on emancipation towards the serfs. 40 million serfs
were freed in 1861. The reason for this reform is questionable but Alexander II was probably trying to
prevent the lower classes from having a revolution.
Serfs now had the right to marry without interference and could also own land. However they did have

However the economy surprisingly did still grow under him. The reasons for this might have been
because of the stocks and banks opened up by Alexander II.
Alexander II s reforms were great developments but was unfortunately not that effective. On the other
hand Alexander III reformed quite a lot of them. He was not a bad person for doing this but it may be
because he lacked confidence. To be a successful ruler, it is important to receive a good education and
Alexander III did not receive this. He loved his family very much and had to assure his family and
himself even though many saw him as incompetent as a tsar.
Alexander III in the end decided to reverse everything his father Alexander III brought to Russia.
Alexander II was probably not the most liberal man to ever live however he did bring some hope
which had never been present before he ruled. Alexander II had many successful reforms that helped
the nation grow politically and economically. After Alexander II s extremely brutal death his son,
possibly feared he would have a similar death and as a result changed everything to the previous state
before Alexander II came to

Refractive Eye Surgery Essay
Introduction
Light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and travels in waves. The electromagnetic
spectrum consists of many other forms of radiation including: radio waves, microwaves, infrared
waves, ultraviolet rays, x rays, and gamma rays (Sandner, 2009). Humans are only capable of
seeing the visible spectrum of light and some even have difficulties with that. However, with
technology taking a turn, many new inventions have come into existence that can help many
parts of the body, including the eyes. Optical devices/processes help us see farther and more
clearly than we can with unaided eyes (Sandner, 2009). One of these optical devices/processes is
laser vision correction. For most people with vision problems, this brand of surgery looks very
appealing to them, which can decrease or even eliminate dependency on glasses and contact
lenses (Sandner, 2009). However, there are also risks that come along with them, and those risks
can be very dangerous.
Background Research
Types of Refractive Eye Surgery
Laser vision correction consists of different types including, but not limited to: LASIK,
LASEK, PRK, and ALK. Each type of surgery is executed for different purposes such as near
sightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. According to MedicineNet.com (nd), all types of
refractive eye surgery involve the reshaping of the cornea or clearing the front part of the eye so
that light can travel through onto the retina properly focused.

The teenage years and transition to adulthood is in itself a very difficult period. Blending or fitting in
are omnipresent issues that must be dealt with. For children of immigrants, this difficulty is only
intensified through language. Both Amy Tan and Khang Nguyen strategically use narrative anecdotes
and employ several rhetorical devices to illustrate this struggle in their works, Mother Tongue and The
Happy Days, respectfully. Amy Tan chooses her childhood home as the primary setting of her work.

Tan and Khang describe the struggle of fitting in with the added difficulty of growing up as a child of
immigrants. Both compare and contrast their relationships inside and out side the home in order to
clearly demonstrate the differences and difficulties. As the stories develop, so do their characters,
allowing for subtle reflection.
At hoe, Amy Tan maintained a loving relationship with her mother. There, they were able to speak to
each other the same way and understand each other perfectly. It was only outside the home that
communication became a problem. She recalls how people disrespected her mother in department
stores, restaurants and other places. Her mother, on a daily basis, received a constant condescending
attitude from people. Tan became very uncomfortable with such attitudes. When her mother is
disrespected or treated unfairly, Tan would simply sit there red faced and quiet . She never felt angry
toward her mother, like Khang did. However, she did feel that her mother s informal English limited
her perception of her.
As an adult, Tan understands that her mother s English is the language of intimacy. She now

A Brief Biography of Ivan the Terrible
Ivan IV Vasilyevich (1530 1584), was the first of two children of Basil III and Elena Glinskaya. Ivan
came into the world on August 25, 1530. Nearly a year after this Ivan s father died when he was only
three. Basil had died due to a small, little pimple on his thigh that had developed into a deadly sore.
Basil requested at his deathbed that his son Ivan would become the ruler of Russia when he became a
man at age 15. Once Basil died the boyars took over Russia, denying Ivan s right to the throne. Ivan s
mother then with other trusted boyars took over the ruling party. Elena was able to successfully rule
Russia for four years, until she died suddenly in 1538, apparently from poisoning, leaving eight year
old Ivan an orphan. They had ended and that Ivan had complete power. On Sunday, January 16, 1547,
Ivan was crowned czar in Moscow s lavish Cathedral of the Assumption. Ivan soon married Anastasia
Romanovna Zakharyina Yurueva. Anastasia bore him six children of whom only two survived infancy.
At times Ivan was very devote; he used to throw himself before the icons, banging his head against the
floor. It resulted in a callosity at his forehead. Once Ivan even did a public confession of his sins in
Moscow. During the beginning of Ivan s reign, the administrative functions of the government were

truth is relative for everyone. Yet, all three authors are often desiring inclusiveness of things left out in

electric pianos to add a back up to a sound. Even though both bands are legendary, alike sounding, and
award winners, they are still very different. Rush and Led Zeppelin have been compared to each other,

The Potential for Avian Influenza to Cause Another...
The Potential for Avian Influenza to Cause Another Worldwide Pandemic
Abstract
There are three major factors involved in the start of a pandemic; the viral strain must be new, able to
cause serious illness, and transmit efficiently between humans. This article explores the avian
influenza virus?s potential to cause another global pandemic through its ease of transmission and
ability to evade treatment. Avian type A influenza virus generally spreads either through an
intermediate vector during the process of antigenic shift or directly to humans when it jumps the
species barrier. A certain strain of the virus, H5N1 was of particular concern as it was the first strain to
move directly from birds to humans. The avian influenza virus poses ... Show more content on

There are three types of influenza viruses, namely A, B, and C. Of the three, type C is the least
harmful and type A is the most lethal because of its ability to mutate quickly. Furthermore, type A
viruses affect a variety of animals from humans, pigs, and horses, to sea mammals, and birds. Type A
viruses also have a large number of smaller subtypes as well, all of which reside
Avian Influenza: A Global Pandemic 2 among aquatic birds. This huge source of genetic variation is
what makes the Type A virus the most likely to undergo antigenic shift. The influenza virus is made up
of eight gene segments. When a human influenza virus and an avian influenza virus come in contact
with one another, they swap gene segments and create a new hybrid virus. (World Health
Organization, 2005). This hybrid virus may encompass the virulent factors of both parent viruses.
Since this influenza strain is new, organisms don?t have a preexisting immunity to it and this fact
guarantees the virus a wide variety of susceptible hosts, allowing it to cause severe damage. Second,

The list of potential pro inflammatory cytokines important in the pathogenesis of RA and other
autoimmune and inflammatory diseases has been extended by another cytokine interleukin IL 23. This
cytokine plays a potential role in immune modulation of different subpopulations of T helper (Th)
cells in concert with IL 12 (Lupardus and Garcia, 2008).
IL 23 is a pro inflammatory cytokine belonging to the IL 12 cytokine family. IL 23 is essential for the
differentiation of Th17 lymphocytes, a subtype of T lymphocyte implicated in chronic
inflammatory/autoimmune mediated diseases (Guo et al., 2013).
IL 23 is produced by several types of antigen presenting cells such as macrophages and denderitic
cells. IL 23 is found in the skin of patients with psoriasis, in the bowel of patients with chronic
inflammatory bowel disease and in synovial membrane of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. IL 23 is
involved in osteoclastogenesis, independently from IL 17, via induction of RANKL expression.
Debate continues to surround the role of IL 23 in the pathophysiology of inflammatory joint diseases
(rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis) (Duvallet et al., 2011).
Reports have indicated that in humans increased levels of IL 23 are associated with the several
autoimmune diseases including RA, Lyme arthritis, inflammatory bowel

Reducing Medication Errors During Long Term Care Facility...
Reducing Medication Errors in Long Term Care Facility
One of the critical core components of Skilled Nursing Facility is medication administration. As cited
by Tenhunen, Tanner, and Dahlen (2014), they stated that 88% of the residents living in the nursing
homes are aged 65 years old and older. They discussed that every five of administered medications in
nursing home has one probability of error. This means that about half of the residents have the
possibility of two or more medication errors daily. This applies to the Pasadena Care Center (PCC)
because its residents are mostly older adults who require medications on a daily basis. Moreover,
residents are prescribed with multiple medications, which make them vulnerable to medication errors.
The staff at PCC is trying their best to ensure safe medication administration, however, it still in need
of a major change. The goal of the proposed change is to decrease the medication errors in this
organization to ensure patient safety.
Background
The PCC is a Skilled Nursing Facility and is licensed for 99 beds. It provides specialized care services
ranging from short term, long term, and hospice care. The residents come from different racial
background and were diagnosed with acute to chronic medical conditions. The majority of residents
are older adults and often taking numerous medications, which put them at risk for medication errors.
As discussed by Lane, Troyer, Dienemann, Laditka, and Blanchette (2014), older individuals

The Cultural Environment Of Today s Society
This work will analyse and consider the cultural environment in which we are all subjected to in today
s society. Culture doesn t have just one meaning, they vary depending on where you live, how you
live, how you been taught, religion, language and many others. These are just some of the factors of
that create the diversification of specific types of culture, that we all have to adapt too even if you look
at individualism and collectivism. Businesses of today, also have to change the way they operate, to
suit and operate effectively depending on where they want to situate themselves, otherwise problems
could arise
Culture can be recognised for nor right or wrong in today s society. We ve become as a human race
influenced by various avenues and ideas of how things should be done. We all have an ideology that
the society we have been bought up is the correct fashion of which others should follow suit, but that
not the case in some instances. Culture is the shared values of beliefs, values and normality of how
people and businesses should act on in the environment of which we are surrounded by. This doesn t
mean as an individual one has to follow but in some cases as a sign of respect you ll just have too.
Culture may not be right or wrong but just a matter of opinion, not truth. Society changes all the time,
when society changes the culture does too. 10 years ago the culture of which we live in used to be
completely different. In that space of time we have changed the way we

Why Is Nina Dobrev A Good Role Model
Everyone has a different role model for their own different reasons. Sometimes it s just because of
what they do and their films, and other times it s because of their great personality and loving nature.
Overall, everyone has a specific person they look up to whether it s a celebrity or their mother. Nina
Dobrev, one of many actresses, stands out amongst the crowd for me. She is kind and compassionate
and always modest and humble. Through hard work, patience, and persistence, Nina Dobrev has
become a successful actress as well as an amazing role model. Nina Dobrev s childhood held many
amazing memories for her. Born on January 9, 1989 in Sofia, Bulgaria; her full name was Nikolina

something in life, I have to take the necessary steps and measures to achieve what I want (141). Nina
works hard and never gives up, following what her parents taught her and what she is teaching to
supporters everyday. I ve always wanted to constantly challenge myself and play different characters
in different genres, whether it s action, drama, romantic, comedy, or a period piece. I ll never take a

inspires young minds to follow her lead, to work for the things they want. Through hard work and
persistence, Nina Dobrev has become a successful actress and inspiring role model. Her childhood

Summary Of Pollastek E. Al s Study
Summary: The central focus of Pollastek et al s (2012) study was to determine why elderly drivers are
more likely to be involved in vehicular accidents at intersections than younger experienced drivers. As
a means of data collection Pollastek et al (2012) tested the scanning ability of elderly drivers at
intersections through a series of different scenarios. Each scenario took place in a simulated
environment, testing the scanning ability of elderly drivers where they were instructed to go through
1) a four way intersection, 2) turn right at a T intersection and 3) proceed through an intersection.
Pollastek et al (2012) found that elderly drivers fail to properly scan for potential hazards while
proceeding through intersections. Pollastek et al (2012) also found that by providing video feedback
the participants in the training group performed similarly to younger experienced drivers.
Reactions:
The strengths of Pollastek et al s (2012) study lie in the methods used for data collection. By utilizing
a driving simulator to imitate potentially hazardous driving conditions, Pollastek et al (2012) ensured
that the experiment was safely conducted. The driving simulator also allowed Pollastek et al (2012) to

YOUTH
Evidence Based Practices for Homeless Sexual Minority Youth
Kerri Dunn Bales and Mary Ann Callaway University of Oklahoma
Abstract: SMY (sexual minority youth, which refers within this paper to youth who identify as gay,
lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer) are at risk for trauma in particularly high numbers. When
SMY become homeless, their risk for exposure to trauma becomes even higher, presenting the helping
professions with a population that faces unique problems in clinical settings that may seek to treat
homelessness without considering minority stress and repeated exposure to trauma. We reviewed
literature concerned with trauma, homelessness and SMY issues to determine which EBPs (evidence
based practices) have been deemed most helpful for this population and found very few. Our
investigation into local resources available to homeless SMY was similarly discouraging. Since
previous trauma and marginalized sexual orientation are the primary factors for continued risk, we can
suggest that Trauma Informed Care and Gay Affirmative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are currently
our best choices. This paper will seek to explore why.
Description of the Problem: When discussing homeless SMY, we should remember that we are
looking at the intersection of two populations whose risk factors for trauma are already elevated. To
better understand these risks we looked at three

The key role of NK cells in various aspects of immune response are now being recognized and have
been attracting increased attention for their potential clinical efficacy via immune based therapies. As
their name implies, this unique member of the innate immune system can recognize targets without
being previously sensitized and thus kill cells that are deemed dangerous to the host. This is
particularly important when evaluating biologic studies of NK cells and factors that influence NK cell
effect in cancer immune surveillance, viral immunity, and transplantation alloreactivity. In this
chapter, we will review NK cell biology, discuss their role in the alloHSCT setting, and review new
advances in incorporating NK cells as therapeutic options for malignancies. Large granular

their initial discovery, NK cells were characterized as lymphocytes having an immuno phenotype that
lacked expression of CD3 but expressed CD56+. This characterization thereby differentiated them
from T cells having CD3+ expression and thus NK cells do not express the CD3/T cell receptor (TCR)
complex or experience TCR gene rearrangement. NK cells can be further divided into two distinct

Air Breathing Engines Author: Mohsin Rehman Abstract: This paper mentions the history and early
attempts at propulsion and the basic principle and theory of propulsion. Different types of air
breathing engines like turbojet turbofan ramjet scramjet etc. their basic working principle along with
their different working parts and the air planes on which these engines successfully worked are
discussed down the path. Progresses made on historical basis, future planning for the betterment of
aircraft propulsion industries and their major priorities are the highlighted areas of this research paper.
Index terms: horse power, Mach no, oxidizer, stealth technology, thermodynamics. I. Introduction: In
aircraft designing, propulsion system is the basic structure. For an aircraft to leave the ground and be
in air we want a system which can speedily thrust it into air. Before going after history and detail we
have to learn what propulsion basically is. The word is derived from two Latin words: pro means
before or forwards and pellere meaning to drive. Propulsion means to push forward or drive an object
forward [1]. A propulsion system is a machine that generates thrust in order to push an object forward.
Propulsion systems work on newton s third law of action and reaction. Action is that working fluid is
accelerated by the engine and the reaction to this acceleration produces a force on the engine [1]. The

protein with small amounts of cholesterol. HDL has more protein in it than cholesterol This makes
HDL more healthy, rather than being harmful to the body. LDL is a low density protein that is mainly
composed of cholesterol. When LDL levels are too high, it can create major problems for the body.
LDL has less nutrients and more cholesterol. HDL is known as the good cholesterol . HDL benefits the

The Road Of Immortality And Glory
The Road to Immortality and Glory
Gilgamesh and The Illiad are epics that tell a character s struggle to gain immortality and glory.
Gilgamesh and Achilles s motivations to gain immortality and glory are quite different. However, their
journeys in trying to achieve these things are quite the same. Through the journey of trying to obtain
immortality and glory, Gilgamesh and Achilles teach their audience the true way a person is able to
gain immortality and glory in life.
Although greatness, honor, and dignity are shared influences on the motivations of both characters,
their personal motivations for wanting to achieve such things are different. Gilgamesh s motivation
comes from the death of his companion, Enkidu. Gilgamesh states, Shall I not die too? Am I not like
Enkidu? Oh woe has entered my vitals! I have grown afraid of death, so I roam the steppe. (59. lines 3
5) Enkidu s death instills anguish and panic in Gilgamesh regarding his own fate. These feelings of
uncertainty and anxiety send Gilgamesh on a pursuit to find immortality, so that he can live forever.
Achilles, on the other hand, is motivated by glory, respect, and honor. It is imperative to Achilles that
he be known as the greatest warrior. This title is crucial to Achilles because of the immortal fame it
would bring him. Each character s motivation for wanting to personally gain superiority is different.
For Gilgamesh, it took the death of a companion before death and immortality became a fear for

Finally, the third reason is a breach of warranty claim. The law implies a warranty by a manufacturer
which places its product on the market that the product is reasonably fit for the ordinary purpose for
which it was intended. If it is, in fact, defective and not reasonably fit to be used for its intended
purpose, the warranty is breached. Ultimately, Nancy Denny won because the court found that
defendant had, breached its implied warranty of merchantability and that the breach was the proximate
cause of Nancy Denny s injuries . Ford may have avoided these liabilities had they marketed the
vehicles manual towards off road only, or had they proved product safety was reasonable to drive in
ordinary circumstances. Judge Simons dissented on the case stating he felt consumer expectation had
no place in personal injury litigation. His reasoning seemed to place absolute burden on a
manufacturer in all cases. His reasoning s stated ordinary uses and intended and reasonably

defective and reasonable to provide a decision in other cases. Any other decisions that would arise in
similar cases would ultimately place the burden on the manufacturer to prove there was no
defectiveness and the product could be used in any sort of circumstances. The

Author Summary Shirley Jackson was born in San Francisco, California on December 14, 1919. The
family left California and moved to New York when she was sixteen. At age twenty Shirley enrolled at
the University of Syracuse. There she met Stanley Edgar Hyman. Her and Hyman were later married
in 1940. Her literary production increased tremendously after her marriage and the birth of their four
children. Unfortunately with all of her success she was still human, with human problems. She was an
agoraphobic and severely depressed. The may be why her stories are so far out in left field compared
to what was being written at the time, and even today. Her writing was an outlet for her and this lead
so many successful works of literature. Shirley Jackson s stories always seem to center on one thing:
almost every story is about a protagonist s discovering or failing to discover or successfully ignoring
an alternate way of perceiving a set of circumstances or the world. Often a change in the character s
perspective leads to terror, anxiety, neurosis, or even loss of their identity. Jackson s most notable
work The Lottery is a ghastly story that tells of the way people blindly follow traditions and conform
to their society. She also published many short stories in periodicals such as the New Yorker, Good
Housekeeping, Woman s Day, The Hudson Review, and The Yale Review. She also published novels
such as The

Satan As A Tragic Hero Essay
DeRosas 1
Sundi M. DeRosas
Professor Julie Roth
ENGL.2322.W31C
6 December, 2015 Satan as a tragic hero
In the poem of ?Paradise Lost? written by John Milton, Satan is thought of as a tragic hero because he
is perceived as a strong leader to the fallen angels and has tremendous importance. He struggles to
overcome his apprehensions and choses to dedicate him to evil. He lacks strength to accomplish his
goal of corrupting mankind. Satan becomes unable to judge God?s grace and is not able to find a way
of making his past right. Therefore, he is punished by being condemned to eternal Hell. In the
beginning of ?Paradise Lost?, Milton draws the reader to Satan by his very seductive ways and lures
them to believe he is an innocent victim by his cunning character. The reader sees Satan as having
attributes of a hero because we see him through his eyes. His evil is brought to human level and one
may feel compelled to understand him. We begin to sympathize with him against our will and realize
just how seductive evil really is and not to succumb to it. Satan shares his pain and alienation as he
reaches Earth. The reader can identify with him and therefore feels sympathetic towards him. Many
tragic heroes begin their journey because of self assurance and pride and are not prosperous in the end.
Satan obtains a struggle within him and questions God?s relationship with the angels in Heaven and
doesn?t believe God should be above everyone else. He has many

Memories Of Murder
Why the isn t the case solved in memories of murder
The movie memories of murder takes a unique take on a mystery movie where the case is never
solved even though it could have been easily solved due to a plot point in the story. There are some
other reasons behind the decision to not solve the case one of them being that this movie was based off
a true ,story korea s first serial killer witch was made not to long after the original case. this case was
never solved so it s only fair that the movie was as well, and because of this the director could do
some interesting takes on some scenes that he couldn t do otherwise. First off the mystery could have
been solved at the very beginning the detectives found a witness of the killer but because they
interrogate the witness and beat a confession out of him they learned nothing about who the true killer
is. This was done to show as a detective you don t you want to find the killer but you don t want to get
a fake confession. This was a very common practice by cops at the time to beat suspects and a
recurring theme with all the other suspects in the film. Arrested beat until they confessed then
evidence appears that proves them innocent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abortion Is Wrong Essay
Is Abortion Wrong?
One of the most cherished beliefs of conservatives is that morals are absolute. If an act such as
abortion is wrong, they believe, it is wrong for all time; there are no exceptions. Usually, this
absolutism arises from the belief that the law of God cannot be broken under any circumstances.
Yet, not even the Bible considers an act to be wrong in and of itself the scriptures are loaded with
exceptions and qualifications to the law. To those who believe that the only exceptions to the law
should be those that the Judeo Christian God gives us, then there are three places to find those
exceptions: the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the writings of Christian leaders in the 2,000
years since. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conservatives may object that the power actually belongs to God, and the church leadership is simply
transmitting the information. But history clearly refutes this idea. African slavery in America received
the full blessing of four centuries of popes. Considering the social and scientific disasters that the
Church hierarchy (of all denominations) have been guilty of promoting, from the burning of witches
to the enslavement of innocents, no thinking person could ever place blind faith in the fallible
leadership of men.
That s just a practical observation; let s turn to a more theoretical treatment of moral absolutism. The
problem with this theory is that not even the Bible considers an act to be wrong in and of itself. God
gave Israel the Ten Commandments forbidding certain acts, but then he also ordered Israel to carry out
those very acts against her enemies. This sort of moral relativism is apparent in Christian history as
well. Slavery and war were not condemned as evil in and of themselves; Christian scholars and popes
wrote entire libraries on what constituted just and unjust slavery and just and unjust war. They drew
all the exceptions permissible under God for these atrocities, which they viewed as correct in certain
circumstances. They also did this with more positive behaviors, such as the only correct occasions to
have sex, which the Church

Subcultures And Its Influence On Contemporary Society
Historically, subcultures found its definition originating in the early 1800s, with examples such as
bohemia and another example(ref). Whether subcultures still have an identifiable existence in today s
contemporary society is contentious pertaining to its difficulty in actual measurement. It is important
to look from a historical perspective at the features that define a subculture, and gives it the unique
identity that constitutes some discernible traits that differ from conventional society. This is to say that
the traits that make the subculture are not singular in their form, for they can be both abstract and
material. It is the intent of this essay to highlight such features and question if subcultures as a term,
should still be applicable in contemporary society. From Teddy Boys, mods and rockers, hells angels
to punks and even modern day terms for groups such as chavs, subcultures have throughout history
attempted to identify themselves from what is considered societies definition of normal (ref). This
form of indifference against the majority agreed upon social construction of society, is expressed in a
multitude of ways. The social constriction that minority groups feel in the respect of class
stratification, cultural, political, and religious beliefs result in sense of being ostracized (ref). Through
this constraint, the expression of subcultures emerges in the manifestation of unique socially
constructed ideas and beliefs. This typically goes hand in hand with

Black Power Movement
According to Freeland (2006) The black power movement was an all encompassing movement that
called for political, economic, and social changes for the African American community During the
black power movement African American men and women began thinking a lot more about
themselves positively and having a lot of pride about their race. The black power movement focused
on health, religion, education, and political values directly related to the black race. One interesting
area that was heavily emphasized during the black power movement was the importance of having an
education. During the 60 s and 70 s African Americans were going to colleges and universities in
droves. In that time period African American students wanted to attend an institution where they
would not be a minority, and have instructors who understand where they come from. The type of ...

According to Spurgeon (2009) African Americans face exclusion from social activities, unwelcoming
residence hall environments, and less friendly peers p.33. Typically African Americans want to avoid
this type of treatment so they choose a college that is more suited for them culturally. Another
common reason why this type of college is chosen by students is due to them wanting to learn more
about African American history which is a part of the curriculum Palmer (2010) mentioned several
reasons why it is hard for African American students aren t able to be engaged while at a PWI. He
cites the lack of involvement in campus activities such as student government. African American
students are likely to get involved with a black student union but very few of them want to take on a
leadership role in these organizations on campus. Palmer mentions that African American students are
very likely to participate in intramural athletics while on

R. Vs. Pushpanathan
The subsequent paragraphs in this document contain a detailed analysis of the case R. v. Pushpanathan
with regards to how each of the following schools of philosophy would rule in the aforementioned
case: Legal Realism, Natural Law, Legal Positivism, and Critical Legal Theory. Also written within
this document are the major questions that required answers for this case and a personal ruling on
whether or not Pushpanathan should have been awarded refugee status despite his previous arrest for
conspiracy to traffic in a narcotic due to his involvement with a group in possession of heroin with a
street value of $10 million.
Legal Realism
Under the philosophy of legal realism the decision on whether or not to grant Pushpanathan refugee
status ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This belief would greatly influence the case of R. v. Pushpanathan from a moral standpoint. A judge
who is set in the philosophy of natural law would most likely deny Pushpanathan refugee status
because of the circumstances in the case. Pushpanathan s actions would never be seen as morally
correct. Had Pushpanathan carried out his plans to traffic $10 million worth of heroin he would have
caused tremendous damage to society. This damage would come in many forms such as: economic,
civilian, and property. For example, the trafficking of heroin could lead to the loss of employment for
hundreds of people which would in turn harm the economy. Trafficking heroin would also lead to the
deaths of many people due to overdose and violent confrontations over the drug, as well as thousands
of dollars in property damage caused by uncontrollable outbursts when those addicted to the drug
begin to suffer from withdrawal because they lack the means necessary to obtain any of the substance.
The action of trafficking drugs is seen by most as morally wrong because of the damage it causes to
society. From this, one can safely assume that the law that is in place to deter people from trafficking
dangerous substances such as heroin is seen as morally correct by those who reflect the values of the
natural law philosophy because it protects society from what most people see as morally wrong.
Moreover, a judge who is set in the philosophy of natural law would see the lack of morality in
Pushpanathan s actions and the moral reasoning behind the law that punishes those who traffic
dangerous substances such as heroin. From this information, the judge would likely make the decision
to deny Pushpanathan refugee

Alchemy Research Paper
Alchemy has no clear origin, and is as old as religion itself. Although it has no clear origin the
earliest known recording of alchemy is in china, Egypt, and Indian alchemy. Zoismos of panoplis ( a
very
famous alchemist) belived alchemy originated in pharanic Egypt where it was used by the priestly
class.
Chinese alchemy has an unknown origin as well, but archeologist and historians belive that
Chinese alchemy is branched off Daoist religions and practices. The China s alchemy was mainly
focused
on the body by healing and increasing lifetimes.
There are two kinds of Chinese alchemy Waidan (referring to outside) focuses on the creation of

in
1403 Henry lV of England also banned the practice of multiplying metals, but they were able to buy a
license to do so. Nicholas flamel wrote mainly about the product of the philosophers stone, when he
wrote about his alchemy he always wrote down the ingredients, and the outcome but he never wrote
on how he preformed his transmutation. Flame also dedicated his life in the pursuit of the old
knowledge of alchemy and espessialy books on the philosophers stone.
Alchemy in the renaissance was even more influential to our lives because during the
renaissance a man named Philippus Aurelolus Paracelsus proposed the theory that humans needed
certain balances of minerals are in the human body and that certain minerals can be used to cure many
alements. He also pioneered the use of chemicals and minerals in medicine. Also there was a huge,

Pearl Harbor Reaction Paper
The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was the single most important event of the century and there are
many lessons learned from this event that can be applied to modern day military principles.
Complacency on the part of the United States Government and senior military officials played a key
role in this attack being successful. No one ever thought the Japanese, or any other nation for that
matter, would directly attack the United States. Had the intelligence officials at the time utilized the
high impact, low probability critical thinking model to identify those high payoff targets, then maybe
the attack could have been prevented. In terms of technology, the United States had a distinct
advantage at the time, especially since the Japanese communications code was not only broken, but
remained unchanged for a significant amount of time. There were plenty of indicators that were
collected by United States intelligence activities and by Washington; however, most of the critical
information collected was never appropriately passed to the people that needed it most, the
commanders in the field. And finally, when the commanders in the field were weary of an impending
attack, their request for additional men, weapons, and equipment went unanswered despite
Washington having enough information to substantiate the concern.
Misuse of Intelligence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the United States learned that the Japanese were planning for some kind of attack,
reconnaissance efforts in the Pacific should have been the priority of effort. With the amount of
reconnaissance aircraft and water craft that were housed in Pearl Harbor, this should have been an
easy task. Additionally, there were two United States aircraft carriers in the Northern Pacific in
vicinity of Midway Island. Had those aircraft carriers been performing regular reconnaissance flights,
they may have been able to spot the Japanese Imperial Navy on their course for Pearl

She wait on death row for two decades until finally her day of execution comes. The guard comes up to cell twenty eight and says it s time to go and takes her to the death house. The death penalty is an enormous problem in America because innocent people are being put to death. When the courts find out that a person is innocent it s too late because he s already dead. • 3. Emily Dickinson Essay amp;#8220;Best Things dwell out of Sight ;(#998) describes one of America amp;#8217;s greatest poets. She dwelled out of sight for most of her life and her poems, with the exception of seven published anonymously, remained out of sight until well after her death. Many literary scholars have attempted a biography on this mysterious woman and poet and yet none are conclusive. Dickinson remains an enigma even today but biographical speculation allows us to analyze some of her poetry even though we may be completely inaccurate about what we presuppose. There are some facts about Emily Elizabeth Dickinson that we know for certain. She was born on December 10, 1830 and is recognized as one of America amp;#8217;s greatest poets. She had an ... She took occasional trips but always returned home to her sanctuary and eventually stopped travelling and even leaving her house completely. She corresponded with her confidantes and friends through letters, rarely seeing them. The men she corresponded with during her life include Benjamin Newton, a law student; Reverend Charles Wadsworth, a Philadelphia minister; Thomas Higginson, a literary critic and Civil War hero, and Otis Lord, a judge who had been her father amp;#8217;s closest friend. She regarded these men as intellectual advisers as well as friends. Although many of them found her poetry to be fascinating, none advised her to publish them. Dickinson wrote the majority of her poetry during the 1860 amp;#8217;s at which time she had become increasingly reclusive. She began wearing only white dresses and she hardly left her home, let alone Amherst. Although she occasionally visited friends, by the time she was forty years of age, she refused invitations to leave home and spent the remainder of her life taking care of her parents until they died (her father died in 1847, her mother died in 1882). Every fault you see in them touches a denied weakness in yourself. (Deepka Chopra). In Breath, Eyes, Memory, Martine and Sophie both had many struggles that were caused or involved by one another. Breath, Eyes, Memory, by Edwidge Danticat, is an intriguing story about an impoverished, close knit family that experiences many challenges through another due to their many differences. Throughout Breath, Eyes, Memory, Danticat uses hyperbole, imagery, and symbolism to develop that struggle within a person can impact others around them. Since Sophie got tired of Martine testing her, she decided to rip her veil: My flesh ripped apart as I pressed the pestle into it (Danticat 87). The reader is able to depict Sophie getting a pestle and pushing it into her vagina. This is a struggle Sophie had to cope with because it caused her a lot of pain. To help deal with her pain, Sophie took therapy classes and had many practices: I didn t feel guilty about burning my mother s name anymore (Danticat 207). A person can imagine Sophie writing down Martine s name and throwing it into the fire. Martine has caused Sophie a lot of pain so burning her pain can open doors for a new beginning. While Sophie had her own struggles, Martine was struggling with the baby: She stabbed her stomach with an old rusty knife (Danticat 229). Martine pleaded for a lot of people to help her. Most of Martine s struggle came from how Sophie was conceived. The act of Martine gruesomely stabbing her stomach helps the reader visualize how she committed suicide and how she could not have the baby. • 5. Analysis Of Dutchman And The Ethics Of Living Jim Crow When analyzing the works Dutchman and The Ethics of Living Jim Crow the message the authors are trying to convey become clear through their effects on the reader. In my essay I will explain how the authors use literary terms to help the reader gain a better knowledge in their work. In Amira Baraka s work Dutchman symbolism has a major effect on the overall message as a whole. Although, we see many forms of symbolism there are two that really jump out to me. First, when Lula murders Clay. That to me is a symbol of the racism and what it does to its victims especially back in that time period. Clay puts in a great effort to fit in with the people around him and to be accepted and saw as equal as anyone else, but his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The long train ride allows a man to feel the freedom he so desires and ends once that freedom is no longer available. On the other hand Richard Wright writes about life experiences living under the Jim Crow laws. The informative and chronological style of writing Richard uses deeply affects the reader while taking in what is really happening during this time. He begins by giving us the harsh reality behind the racism he s dealing with. Wright begins by describing the land to show us how not only did the South have a plethora of racist acts but, the towns were also set up in a racist manner. Wright linked anything green to white people because the only green in town was found where the white people lived. Blacks didn t get quite good as their yards were filled with cinders. The blacks and whites were also separated by railroad tracks. Of course, the blacks were behind the railroad tracks maybe to emphasize white supremacy. The Jim Crow laws simply meant that white people could treat blacks any way they wanted to and blacks couldn t retaliate. The Development And Challenge Of 3d Printing Title The Development and Challenge of 3D Printing Introduction In recent years 3D printing arouses focus of public with appearing in a huge number of areas. In this essay, it will describe 3D printing which is one important application of rapid prototyping. Rapid prototyping (RP) is general for several techniques, which read in data from computer aided design (CAD) drawings and manufacture automatically three dimensional objects layer by layer according to the virtual design (Sanna 2008). 3D printing also known as additive manufacturing is any of various processes used to make a three dimensional object. In 3D printing, additive processes are used in which successive layers of material are laid down under computer control. These objects can be almost any shape or geometry and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot. Due to the limitation of space this essay will introduce the basic principle of just four kinds of main printers nowadays and their positive application in construction. The essay left will focus on the two main challenge this technology is facing now and predict the possible development direction. • 7. Demand Of Demand And Demand Essay Demand Determinants The concept of demand is derived from the willingness and ability of consumers to buy goods or services at a particular time depending on prices and preferences. In most cases, the demand for goods and services depends on the affordability and comfort of consumers to purchase them, while holding other factors as constant (Hubbard O Brien, p. 70 2013). Basic economic concepts of demand state that an increase in price affects the demand in a negative way; as prices of gasoline increase, the demand should go down. The concept or law of demand is focused on the correlation between the price of gasoline and the quantity of demand for the product. From my observation, consumers are constantly looking for ways to minimize their consumption of gasoline. This century, motorists are opting for fuel efficient automobiles with the aim of reducing their overall fuel consumption. The theoretical concept of price adjustment by gasoline consumers can affect Edgar s idea to open a retail gas station. Whenever retail fuel prices increase, in the long run, consumers may retaliate by cutting off the frequency of gas consumption by reducing time spent driving, reduce the number of times they use their car and other methods that will save them from using more money in gas stations. In the short run, the change in price of gasoline per gallon is not sufficiently volatile to affect consumption significantly. The graph below shows U.S. National Average in gasoline prices ... However, when Jefferson did buy the territory, it was viewed by many of his fellow Republicans as Federalistic, and an act of viewing the Constitution very loosely. Many claimed that he was abandoning his political principles, which he had fought for so strongly in the past. However, amid all the claims of his betrayal of his political principles by buying the territory without consulting congress, it is clear that he didn t abandon them, because he did it for an agrarian expansion, and because he believed that it was best for Americans. Both of these reasons are two of the main ideals of the Republican ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was for several reasons, primarily being the hypocrisy of using the necessary and proper clause after having attacked Hamilton relentlessly for having used the same clause to set up a National Bank. It is obvious just how much hypocrisy was taking place when we see Jefferson comments regarding the National Bank, in which he said, To take a single step beyond the boundaries specially drawn around powers of Congress is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any decision. By using the necessary and proper clause, Jefferson managed to avoid having to go through Congress to get approval, and also managed to avoid the state governments, just as Hamilton did. This was the exact opposite of what a typical Republican would do, as they believed that the states should have much more power than the federal government. Given that he appears to go against many of the Republican main ideals, he was considered by several as a neo Federalist. However, even amongst all of this, it is still clear that he didn t throw away his political ideals as many said he did, which can be seen in the ways that he did all of this to help the people who he was ... • 9. The Disappearance Analysis The short story The Disappearance by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni basically is about an Indian man who lived in America. At first, he married an educated Indian girl. However, she, unlike her husband, did not have a traditional mindset. She eventually left him, and this was something which he could not accept. He started to recall the times when she was with him. He was in a state of denial that his wife could possibly leave him when he thought he had been good to him, and that he had done enough to satisfy her. However, this was not the case. His wife wanted a modern husband one who would let her have her say, and not only bringing her to Yosemite Park. He tried to forget about her, but he could not do so. He then came across a light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was also oppressed psychologically because she was restricted and could not live the life she wanted even though they were living in a free country. She eventually escaped and left behind the only product of their marriage which she really loved her son. This must be a hard decision for a mother to leave her child behind, but we can say that she is not entirely irresponsible. This is because chances of her child growing up normally like his peers would be unlikely if they were to be in hiding everyday. By leaving her son behind, the wife could ensure that he would be taken care of, at least financially, by her husband. She could not guarantee that for her child given the circumstances she would be facing by escaping from her husband. So, this point here reinforces Feminist criticism. However, there is also a quote in the story which undermines Feminist criticism. She d been out for her evening walk, she took one every day after he got back from the office. Yes, yes, always alone, she said that was her time for herself . Here, we can see that the wife was allowed to go for a walk every evening. She was not really restricted to be at home 24/7. This point here then undermines Feminist criticism. Besides that, the characters can also show us whether the short story reinforces or undermines Feminist criticism. Also looking at how it effected Russia in general After the Crimean war Russia had suffered a devastating defeat, Alexander II decided that there had to be change in his country in order to make Russia successful again. Alexander II was also known as the Liberator , this was mainly due towards his reform on emancipation towards the serfs. 40 million serfs were freed in 1861. The reason for this reform is questionable but Alexander II was probably trying to prevent the lower classes from having a revolution. He loved his family very much and had to assure his family and himself even though many saw him as incompetent as a tsar. Alexander III in the end decided to reverse everything his father Alexander III brought to Russia. • 11. Refractive Eye Surgery Essay Introduction Light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and travels in waves. The electromagnetic spectrum consists of many other forms of radiation including: radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, ultraviolet rays, x rays, and gamma rays (Sandner, 2009). Humans are only capable of seeing the visible spectrum of light and some even have difficulties with that. However, with technology taking a turn, many new inventions have come into existence that can help many parts of the body, including the eyes. Optical devices/processes help us see farther and more clearly than we can with unaided eyes (Sandner, 2009). One of these optical devices/processes is laser vision correction. For most people with vision problems, this brand of surgery looks very appealing to them, which can decrease or even eliminate dependency on glasses and contact lenses (Sandner, 2009). However, there are also risks that come along with them, and those risks can be very dangerous. Background Research Types of Refractive Eye Surgery Laser vision correction consists of different types including, but not limited to: LASIK, LASEK, PRK, and ALK. Each type of surgery is executed for different purposes such as near sightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. According to MedicineNet.com (nd), all types of refractive eye surgery involve the reshaping of the cornea or clearing the front part of the eye so that light can travel through onto the retina properly focused.

  • 17. A Brief Biography of Ivan the Terrible Ivan IV Vasilyevich (1530 1584), was the first of two children of Basil III and Elena Glinskaya. Ivan came into the world on August 25, 1530. Nearly a year after this Ivan s father died when he was only three. Basil had died due to a small, little pimple on his thigh that had developed into a deadly sore. Basil requested at his deathbed that his son Ivan would become the ruler of Russia when he became a man at age 15. Once Basil died the boyars took over Russia, denying Ivan s right to the throne. Ivan s mother then with other trusted boyars took over the ruling party. Elena was able to successfully rule Russia for four years, until she died suddenly in 1538, apparently from poisoning, leaving eight year old Ivan an orphan. They had ended and that Ivan had complete power. On Sunday, January 16, 1547, Ivan was crowned czar in Moscow s lavish Cathedral of the Assumption. Ivan soon married Anastasia Romanovna Zakharyina Yurueva. Anastasia bore him six children of whom only two survived infancy. Fallacies In Calloway In spite of Calloway, Lepore, and Stavans desiring for good history to be written and valued by society at large, the suggested alternative forms of writing and producing history are liable to the same human fallacies and errors faced within the standard historical evidence. As Calloway notes, all historical records need critical consideration. This is due to various factors like bias, fallible memory, and audience that colors these sources. • 21. The Potential for Avian Influenza to Cause Another... The Potential for Avian Influenza to Cause Another Worldwide Pandemic Abstract There are three major factors involved in the start of a pandemic; the viral strain must be new, able to cause serious illness, and transmit efficiently between humans. This article explores the avian influenza virus?s potential to cause another global pandemic through its ease of transmission and ability to evade treatment. Avian type A influenza virus generally spreads either through an intermediate vector during the process of antigenic shift or directly to humans when it jumps the species barrier. A certain strain of the virus, H5N1 was of particular concern as it was the first strain to move directly from birds to humans. The avian influenza virus poses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are three types of influenza viruses, namely A, B, and C. Of the three, type C is the least harmful and type A is the most lethal because of its ability to mutate quickly. Furthermore, type A viruses affect a variety of animals from humans, pigs, and horses, to sea mammals, and birds. Type A viruses also have a large number of smaller subtypes as well, all of which reside Avian Influenza: A Global Pandemic 2 among aquatic birds. This huge source of genetic variation is what makes the Type A virus the most likely to undergo antigenic shift. The influenza virus is made up of eight gene segments. When a human influenza virus and an avian influenza virus come in contact with one another, they swap gene segments and create a new hybrid virus. (World Health Organization, 2005). This hybrid virus may encompass the virulent factors of both parent viruses. Since this influenza strain is new, organisms don?t have a preexisting immunity to it and this fact guarantees the virus a wide variety of susceptible hosts, allowing it to cause severe damage. Second, since the virus now contains human influenza genes, it can be transmitted efficiently between humans, fulfilling all the conditions required to cause a pandemic. The process mentioned above can be further explained by examining the virus?s structure. Type A influenza viruses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reducing Medication Errors in Long Term Care Facility One of the critical core components of Skilled Nursing Facility is medication administration. As cited by Tenhunen, Tanner, and Dahlen (2014), they stated that 88% of the residents living in the nursing homes are aged 65 years old and older. They discussed that every five of administered medications in nursing home has one probability of error. This means that about half of the residents have the possibility of two or more medication errors daily. This applies to the Pasadena Care Center (PCC) because its residents are mostly older adults who require medications on a daily basis. Moreover, residents are prescribed with multiple medications, which make them vulnerable to medication errors. The staff at PCC is trying their best to ensure safe medication administration, however, it still in need of a major change. The goal of the proposed change is to decrease the medication errors in this organization to ensure patient safety. Background The PCC is a Skilled Nursing Facility and is licensed for 99 beds. It provides specialized care services ranging from short term, long term, and hospice care. The residents come from different racial background and were diagnosed with acute to chronic medical conditions. As a means of data collection Pollastek et al (2012) tested the scanning ability of elderly drivers at intersections through a series of different scenarios. Each scenario took place in a simulated environment, testing the scanning ability of elderly drivers where they were instructed to go through 1) a four way intersection, 2) turn right at a T intersection and 3) proceed through an intersection. Pollastek et al (2012) found that elderly drivers fail to properly scan for potential hazards while proceeding through intersections. Evidence Based Practices For Homeless Sexual Minority Youth Running Head: EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICES FOR HOMELESS SEXUAL MINORITY YOUTH Evidence Based Practices for Homeless Sexual Minority Youth Kerri Dunn Bales and Mary Ann Callaway University of Oklahoma Abstract: SMY (sexual minority youth, which refers within this paper to youth who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer) are at risk for trauma in particularly high numbers. When SMY become homeless, their risk for exposure to trauma becomes even higher, presenting the helping professions with a population that faces unique problems in clinical settings that may seek to treat homelessness without considering minority stress and repeated exposure to trauma. We reviewed literature concerned with trauma, homelessness and SMY issues to determine which EBPs (evidence based practices) have been deemed most helpful for this population and found very few. Our investigation into local resources available to homeless SMY was similarly discouraging. Since previous trauma and marginalized sexual orientation are the primary factors for continued risk, we can suggest that Trauma Informed Care and Gay Affirmative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are currently our best choices. This paper will seek to explore why. Description of the Problem: When discussing homeless SMY, we should remember that we are looking at the intersection of two populations whose risk factors for trauma are already elevated. Brown 10 07 12 Denny v. Ford Motor Company Nancy Denny believed she was buying a Bronco II, which gave her the ability to switch between two wheel and four wheel drive. According to the sales manual this feature would be appealing to women due to the vehicles ability to drive safer on snow and ice. Nancy Denny bought the vehicle due to the benefits of the four wheel drive and additionally, she had not interest in using the vehicle for off road purposes. It could be said that the information provided in the manual were somewhat misleading, especially for those not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, the third reason is a breach of warranty claim. The law implies a warranty by a manufacturer which places its product on the market that the product is reasonably fit for the ordinary purpose for which it was intended. If it is, in fact, defective and not reasonably fit to be used for its intended purpose, the warranty is breached. Ultimately, Nancy Denny won because the court found that defendant had, breached its implied warranty of merchantability and that the breach was the proximate cause of Nancy Denny s injuries . Ford may have avoided these liabilities had they marketed the vehicles manual towards off road only, or had they proved product safety was reasonable to drive in ordinary circumstances. Judge Simons dissented on the case stating he felt consumer expectation had no place in personal injury litigation. His reasoning seemed to place absolute burden on a manufacturer in all cases. His reasoning s stated ordinary uses and intended and reasonably foreseeable implied warranties. If this were the case it would be hard to determine the definition of defective and reasonable to provide a decision in other cases. Any other decisions that would arise in similar cases would ultimately place the burden on the manufacturer to prove there was no defectiveness and the product could be used in any sort of circumstances. Author Summary Shirley Jackson was born in San Francisco, California on December 14, 1919. The family left California and moved to New York when she was sixteen. At age twenty Shirley enrolled at the University of Syracuse. There she met Stanley Edgar Hyman. Her and Hyman were later married in 1940. Her literary production increased tremendously after her marriage and the birth of their four children. Unfortunately with all of her success she was still human, with human problems. She was an agoraphobic and severely depressed. The may be why her stories are so far out in left field compared to what was being written at the time, and even today. Her writing was an outlet for her and this lead so many successful works of literature. Shirley Jackson s stories always seem to center on one thing: almost every story is about a protagonist s discovering or failing to discover or successfully ignoring an alternate way of perceiving a set of circumstances or the world. Often a change in the character s perspective leads to terror, anxiety, neurosis, or even loss of their identity. Jackson s most notable work The Lottery is a ghastly story that tells of the way people blindly follow traditions and conform to their society. She also published many short stories in periodicals such as the New Yorker, Good Housekeeping, Woman s Day, The Hudson Review, and The Yale Review. She also published novels such as The ... • 43. Satan As A Tragic Hero Essay DeRosas 1 Sundi M. DeRosas Professor Julie Roth ENGL.2322.W31C 6 December, 2015 Satan as a tragic hero In the poem of ?Paradise Lost? written by John Milton, Satan is thought of as a tragic hero because he is perceived as a strong leader to the fallen angels and has tremendous importance. He struggles to overcome his apprehensions and choses to dedicate him to evil. He lacks strength to accomplish his goal of corrupting mankind. Satan becomes unable to judge God?s grace and is not able to find a way of making his past right. Therefore, he is punished by being condemned to eternal Hell. In the beginning of ?Paradise Lost?, Milton draws the reader to Satan by his very seductive ways and lures them to believe he is an innocent victim by his cunning character. The reader sees Satan as having attributes of a hero because we see him through his eyes. His evil is brought to human level and one may feel compelled to understand him. We begin to sympathize with him against our will and realize just how seductive evil really is and not to succumb to it. Satan shares his pain and alienation as he reaches Earth. The reader can identify with him and therefore feels sympathetic towards him. Many tragic heroes begin their journey because of self assurance and pride and are not prosperous in the end. Satan obtains a struggle within him and questions God?s relationship with the angels in Heaven and doesn?t believe God should be above everyone else. He has many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Memories Of Murder Why the isn t the case solved in memories of murder The movie memories of murder takes a unique take on a mystery movie where the case is never solved even though it could have been easily solved due to a plot point in the story. There are some other reasons behind the decision to not solve the case one of them being that this movie was based off a true ,story korea s first serial killer witch was made not to long after the original case. this case was never solved so it s only fair that the movie was as well, and because of this the director could do some interesting takes on some scenes that he couldn t do otherwise. First off the mystery could have been solved at the very beginning the detectives found a witness of the killer but because they interrogate the witness and beat a confession out of him they learned nothing about who the true killer is. This was done to show as a detective you don t you want to find the killer but you don t want to get a fake confession. This was a very common practice by cops at the time to beat suspects and a recurring theme with all the other suspects in the film. • 45. Abortion Is Wrong Essay Is Abortion Wrong? One of the most cherished beliefs of conservatives is that morals are absolute. If an act such as abortion is wrong, they believe, it is wrong for all time; there are no exceptions. Usually, this absolutism arises from the belief that the law of God cannot be broken under any circumstances. Yet, not even the Bible considers an act to be wrong in and of itself the scriptures are loaded with exceptions and qualifications to the law. To those who believe that the only exceptions to the law should be those that the Judeo Christian God gives us, then there are three places to find those exceptions: the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the writings of Christian leaders in the 2,000 years since. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conservatives may object that the power actually belongs to God, and the church leadership is simply transmitting the information. But history clearly refutes this idea. African slavery in America received the full blessing of four centuries of popes. Considering the social and scientific disasters that the Church hierarchy (of all denominations) have been guilty of promoting, from the burning of witches to the enslavement of innocents, no thinking person could ever place blind faith in the fallible leadership of men. That s just a practical observation; let s turn to a more theoretical treatment of moral absolutism. The problem with this theory is that not even the Bible considers an act to be wrong in and of itself. God gave Israel the Ten Commandments forbidding certain acts, but then he also ordered Israel to carry out those very acts against her enemies. This sort of moral relativism is apparent in Christian history as well. Slavery and war were not condemned as evil in and of themselves; Christian scholars and popes wrote entire libraries on what constituted just and unjust slavery and just and unjust war. They drew all the exceptions permissible under God for these atrocities, which they viewed as correct in certain circumstances. They also did this with more positive behaviors, such as the only correct occasions to have sex, which the Church ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Subcultures And Its Influence On Contemporary Society Historically, subcultures found its definition originating in the early 1800s, with examples such as bohemia and another example(ref). Whether subcultures still have an identifiable existence in today s contemporary society is contentious pertaining to its difficulty in actual measurement. It is important to look from a historical perspective at the features that define a subculture, and gives it the unique identity that constitutes some discernible traits that differ from conventional society. This is to say that the traits that make the subculture are not singular in their form, for they can be both abstract and material. It is the intent of this essay to highlight such features and question if subcultures as a term, should still be applicable in contemporary society. From Teddy Boys, mods and rockers, hells angels to punks and even modern day terms for groups such as chavs, subcultures have throughout history attempted to identify themselves from what is considered societies definition of normal (ref). This form of indifference against the majority agreed upon social construction of society, is expressed in a multitude of ways. The social constriction that minority groups feel in the respect of class stratification, cultural, political, and religious beliefs result in sense of being ostracized (ref). Through this constraint, the expression of subcultures emerges in the manifestation of unique socially constructed ideas and beliefs. This typically goes hand in hand with ... The black power movement focused on health, religion, education, and political values directly related to the black race. One interesting area that was heavily emphasized during the black power movement was the importance of having an education. During the 60 s and 70 s African Americans were going to colleges and universities in droves. This belief would greatly influence the case of R. v. Pushpanathan from a moral standpoint. A judge who is set in the philosophy of natural law would most likely deny Pushpanathan refugee status because of the circumstances in the case. Pushpanathan s actions would never be seen as morally correct. Had Pushpanathan carried out his plans to traffic $10 million worth of heroin he would have caused tremendous damage to society. This damage would come in many forms such as: economic, civilian, and property. For example, the trafficking of heroin could lead to the loss of employment for hundreds of people which would in turn harm the economy. Trafficking heroin would also lead to the deaths of many people due to overdose and violent confrontations over the drug, as well as thousands of dollars in property damage caused by uncontrollable outbursts when those addicted to the drug begin to suffer from withdrawal because they lack the means necessary to obtain any of the substance. The action of trafficking drugs is seen by most as morally wrong because of the damage it causes to society. From this, one can safely assume that the law that is in place to deter people from trafficking dangerous substances such as heroin is seen as morally correct by those who reflect the values of the natural law philosophy because it protects society from what most people see as morally wrong. Moreover, a judge who is set in the philosophy of natural law would see the lack of morality in Pushpanathan s actions and the moral reasoning behind the law that punishes those who traffic dangerous substances such as heroin. From this information, the judge would likely make the decision to deny Pushpanathan refugee ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pearl Harbor Reaction Paper The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was the single most important event of the century and there are many lessons learned from this event that can be applied to modern day military principles. Complacency on the part of the United States Government and senior military officials played a key role in this attack being successful. No one ever thought the Japanese, or any other nation for that matter, would directly attack the United States. Had the intelligence officials at the time utilized the high impact, low probability critical thinking model to identify those high payoff targets, then maybe the attack could have been prevented. In terms of technology, the United States had a distinct advantage at the time, especially since the Japanese communications code was not only broken, but remained unchanged for a significant amount of time. There were plenty of indicators that were collected by United States intelligence activities and by Washington; however, most of the critical information collected was never appropriately passed to the people that needed it most, the commanders in the field. And finally, when the commanders in the field were weary of an impending attack, their request for additional men, weapons, and equipment went unanswered despite Washington having enough information to substantiate the concern.
