Sexual Identity And Gender Expression
To conceptualise sexual identity and gender expression, Judith Butler (1990) proposes a
poststructuralist perspective; that gendered behaviour (masculinity and femininity) is learned, a
performative act, and that gender is constructed through a heterosexual matrix . She describes this as
[A] hegemonic/epistemic model of gender intelligibility that assumes that for bodies to cohere and
make sense there must be a stable sex expressed through a stable gender (masculine expresses
discursive male, feminine expresses female) that is oppositionally and hierarchically defined
through the compulsory practice of heterosexuality (Butler, 1990; 151).
She proposes that one is born a particular sex, which in turn dictates one s gender, which in turn ...

Reality, from the realist perspective, is seen to have a stratification of existence, which Bhaskar
(date) outlines as the empirical , the actual and the real . The empirical is the experienced, a sub
set of the actual; the things and events in their concrete historicity, and these are both a sub set of
the real; the structures, the internal relations of the actual parts. Socially, realists distinguish the
empirical reality of social life from the real objects whose causal powers effect social change
through actual mechanisms. This ontological depth has bearing when exploring the sex gender
relationship, where there are real anatomical sex differences, and empirically real gender
differences. Rather than deterministic , sex categories are causal to result in a particular gender.
One born to a particular anatomical sex tends to be a particular gender; the outcome is probable.
That is because of the actual mechanisms, the cultural, religious, historical truths, that create a
tendency between the real and the empirical . This is what Butler somewhat fails to portray: the
influences of race, class, and time.
Heteronormativity is the term coined to define the systemic and pervasive belief, structurally,
socially and somewhat unconsciously, that heterosexuality is the normal and inevitable sexuality, it
makes sense . It is grounded in determinism; that one s anatomical sex must compliment their
partner s opposite

Essay on The First Amendment and its Impact on Media
The First Amendment and its Impact on Media
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The first
amendment to the United State s constitution is one of the most important writings in our short
history. The first amendment has defined and shaped our country into what it is today. The
amendment has constantly been challenged and ratified through literature, court cases, and our
media. In fact, media is driven by the first amendment. Without it, we as citizens wouldn t be able

The most famous defamation case, which still sets precedent in today s cases, is New York
Times v. Sullivan (1964). New York Times v. Sullivan (1964) is the leading case on the question
of defamation liability for media defendants. The case, heard before the Supreme Court, declared
that public officials and figures could not recover for an alleged defamation unless they can prove
both that the statement was false, and was made with actual malice. This decision prevents the
news media from reporting on false or slanderous stories. It protects the country s public icons
seeing they are almost always in the spotlight. In addition to defamation hindering media, obscenity
and pornography on the net have placed limitations on what some websites may provide in terms of
content.
Under Miller v. California (1973) in order for material to be found obscene by a court of law, the
material must appeal to the prurient interest, as judged against local community standards. The
material must also depict or describe sexual conduct (as defined by applicable state law) in a
patently offensive or indecent way and lack serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.
These standards apply equally in the context of the Internet as they do in ordinary books and
magazines. Where material is found to be obscene, the First Amendment does not apply. This

Into The Wild Sacrifice Analysis
Patty Zhang

Honors American Literature
26 September 2016 Sacrifice as a Value Trade off Between Society and Individual
In any conception of the human condition, sacrifice inevitably accompanies the choices that life
presents. Yet, the definition of sacrifice is ambiguous and relies on individual interpretation: it can
be willingly trading lesser possessions for more desirable goals or forcibly relinquishing values.
Despite the distinct social contexts and time periods, Jon Krakauer s Into the Wild and Kate
Chopin s The Awakening reflect similar notions of sacrificethrough their protagonists, Chris
McCandless and Edna Pontellier respectively. Chris McCandless and Edna Pontellier perceive
sacrifice as a trade off between values, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edna becomes increasingly dissatisfied as a mother woman once she realizes that sacrifice
means choosing between an outward existence which conforms and an inward life which
questions (13). After the summer at Grand Isle, Edna begins to pursue her own interests,
relieving herself of obligations because she no longer feels content to feed upon opinion when
her own soul had invited her (94). Edna s awakening is directly caused by her perception of
sacrifice. Realizing that fulfilling social roles necessitates giving up her autonomy, Edna fights
against the sacrifice that her culture expects from women. She moves out into a pigeon house
and refuses to entertain guests on reception day, small actions which resist the social pressures
threatening her personal identity. Edna consciously destroys the facade of a traditional life for
her genuine desires, noting that it is better to wake up after all, even to suffer, rather than to
remain a dupe to illusions (112). Self discovery is worth life s delirium to Edna; the possible
social repercussions and stigma are painful but necessary sacrifices. Edna dismantles the false life
she leads, and with it social benefits and status, believing that the the suffering is preferable to
sacrificing and repressing her true self. Her understanding of sacrifice as

Teens And The Media Essay
Portrayal of Teens in the Media
The media, that giant intimidating creation has taken the stereotypes of teens, the way people
view teens, and the way we view ourselves, and has turned it into a delusional monster. The media
at this point in time portrays teenagers as generally bad. Well to be honest, not generally bad, but
mostly horrible. We are seen as the cause for alarmand trouble in society. The media portrays us as
manic delinquents with no solid past and no concrete future.
The main points of teenagers that are warped into a lie are appearance and generalization of
actions. The media spreads the idea that just because some teens choose to get more piercing done,
or a tattoo, or decide to get a different hair color that it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Teenagers are seen as immature and with no future. But are we not more mature than our adult role
models by not generalizing about them?
I admit that I personally know a few people that have made some choices that have resulted in
jail sentences and other consequences. Just because there are a few teenagers like that does not
mean that we are all alike in that aspect. Another misconception about teenagers is that the inner
city or black teens are involved in gangs. This is one of the lowest and cheapest
misinterpretations. Generalizing by race and where people live (and in turn generalizing because
of social class) makes me sick. I see this as a pitiful portrayal and a complete lie.
The media also portrays teens as spending their time doing nothing. They put us in shows and in
commercials in groups of three or four, complete with the previously discussed tattoos and loose
pants, just sitting around doing nothing. They send the message across that we are basically just a
quot;crime waiting to happen. quot; Which is not the case. About 98% of the teens I know
responsibly arrange and map out their plans. Very few of them sit around with no job waiting to do
something wrong. Another part of this misinterpretation is the attitude of teenagers in general. The
media portrays general teenage attitude (which is portrayed as hating all forms of authority and not
wanting to listen to anyone) as going hand in hand with crime and delinquency.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Online Education
Would you prefer having all your quizzes, assignments, and lectures on a computer screen or a
traditional classroom teacher where it is mandatory to listen to their lectures and their assignments
are on paper? There are both advantages and disadvantages to a traditional setting and an online
education. The advantages of online learningare that you get immediate feed back whether it s a
test, quiz or an assignment you get results of your score and what you got wrong in the matter of
just submitting your work. that gives you more time to look back at what you did wrong so you
can fix it and restudy the material given. Scores as well are immediate, as soon as you click out of

Another negative advantage is the lack of discipline, some students need to be nagged on and told
what to do. Other students need motivation from teachers and their peers, they need the constant
support or push. thirdly a disadvantage is the tecnical difficulties in the computer system, the
website could be down, crash and the constant updates like java, shockwave, and flash. Other
things could happen at home like their computer could break, wifi could go down or the power
could go off.
The positive sides of traditional in classroom schooling is having the classroom of students learning
the same material, with the same teacher having the advantage to exchange ideas and questions
with one another. Since you have the same material as the student next to you, you can help each
other and brainstorm homework questions after school if you both are stuck since there is no
teacher that goes home with you. In a traditional school, you have the operativity to make new
friends, join clubs, go to dances, and attend a rally. The disadvantages of a trading school are
one of the biggest problems most schools have is the big class sizes. the big class sizes of 27 to
30 students s that the teacher can t help you individually faster than it could be in a smaller
classroom. The bigger classroom could also be a distraction because of the loud kids or the ones
who don t do their work. Another

The unprecedented events of September 11, 2001 changed the way many Americans view
American Muslims. The events brought Muslims into the national and international spotlight but
with a new intensity. From the outside, the new intensity of the post 9/11 public pressures
reinforced the already existing differences between the Western World and the Islamic World. This
self and collective soul searching raised many questions: How have American Muslims managed
their identities as Muslims and Americans? How is American Muslim identities being articulated

processes that have to do with identity, giving way to a critical engagement of religious pluralism...

More specifically, Patel focus is on the religious identities of young people in a world made up
of many religious identities and secular outlooks and argues that religious programs and people
can make a difference. These programs can be the right influence for today s youth in a
significantly positive way. On page 12 of the book Patel writes: How does one ordinary young
person s commitment to a religion turn into a suicide mission and other ordinary young person s
commitment to that same faith become an organization devoted to pluralism? The answer, I
believe, lies in the influences young people have, the programs and people who shape their
religious identities. (Acts of Faith Patel page 12)
From the reading, Patel sets out to not only convince people that programs and personal can shape
student s lives of all ages but also to give the reader some insight into the ways that programs and
initiatives can be successful. In the book Patel presents his own life story, which focuses on his
development of faith during his childhood, college years, teaching experience, and the founding of
the Interfaith Youth Core. Patel s stories are interwoven and are reflective reactions to the world
around him trying to puzzle through the challenges and struggles in order to balance and harmonize
with the incompatible relations among his personal, family, social, and most importantly his
religious identities that are no doubt linked to his growing

Cross Border Terrorism And Kashmir
Cross border terrorism in Kashmir
Since the beginning, Pakistan s two nations theory that The Hindu and Muslim cannot stay together
in one umbrella, led to partition of India and birth of Pakistan. Jammu Kashmir as an unfinished
agenda of partition and consider that being Muslim majority state contiguous with its territory
should be part of Pakistan. After losing three battle (in 1947 48, 1965, 1971 and Kargil conflict in
1999) on the name of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan, they failed. Pakistan very
well knows that in conventional war they will never accession Jammu and Kashmir; they
approached the low conflict intensity war with India by using sub national actors as a relatively
cheap and easy way to keep Indian forces to tie down and to balance the conventional
asymmetry, for which even death is a laser price to pay. Former Pakistan s foreign minister
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, in a fiery speech delivered at UN Security Council, condemned India s
aggression and declared his nations intend to fight for thousand years. Zia s policy took shape
after General Zia ul Haq had deposed Bhutto in coup in July 1977, assuming the office of
President of Pakistan, he embarked on a new policy to promote terrorism in India through a
thousand cuts in Kashmir. The single act has brought a conceptual change in the Terrorism warfare
theory where idea terrorism has been used. Radical changes have taken place in the way in which
terrorist acts could be committed against

Universal Design Model
When teaching students with diverse needs depending on the student s disabilities the individual
student will need different accommodations or modifications to access the curriculum. Throughout
a teacher s career special education teachers will come across a wide range of diverse learning
needs. I think that one helpful way to help all students with or without diverse needs access the
curriculum can be done through the concept of Universal Design for Planning. According to
Kristen Lee Howard (2004), UDL consists of, Focusing educators on developing flexible curriculum

These strategies for students can be built on their strengths of learning. The students can
demonstrate their work through ways that help them build on their weaknesses through using their
strengths. The students will begin to feel confident in themselves and their individual learning. One
way of implementing UDL into the classroom is through a three step model that focuses on
Respecting Diversity, Inclusion Instructional Practices and System and Structure. The first model
Respecting Diversity, according to Katz (2011) states, Programs that help teachers to create a
classroom climate that improves students self concept, sense of belonging, and respect for diverse
others (4). I believe that respecting students diversity in learning styles will help provide a safe
learning environment for all students. When working with students with diverse needs in an
inclusion classroom it s important for the students to believe in themselves. Students with learning
needs can feel overwhelmed with the other students in the class. It s our job as the teachers to help

Into Battle by Julian Grenfell and Counter Atak by...
Into Battle by Julian Grenfell and Counter Attack by Siegfried Sassoon are two poems with
different ways of looking at going into battle. Into Battle shows a positive outlook on going to war
and is what the young courageous men who signed up for the army would have felt. Grenfell uses
soft kind wars even when describing the most horrific moments of war. On the other hand, Counter
Attack unlike Into Battle is a negative outlook to the war. From the beginning of it there is no
hope, the soldiers appear to be helpless. Sassoon uses very descriptive negative words, he
describes with detail the cruel reality of war. The poem Into Battle was written before the war,
making the audience soon to be soldiers. The time period for this... Show more content on

Continuing his positive outlook on war Grenfell describes what he thinks it means to die in
battle and Sassoon gives his version. He describes the experience of battle with, joy of battle, a
very honorable thing to say. It is a way most people do not look at dying in war as but to look at
it that way is a respectively masculine attitude. With what he continues to say it resembles the
attitude of Lieutenant Dan in the movie Forest Gump, instead of praising Forest for saving his
life he becomes angry and bitter towards him. Lieutenant Dan says something on how his father
and his grandfather had all died in war and it was his destiny. That point is brought up to show
how Grenfell describes dying in war as the most honorable and glorifying moment in a soldiers
life. Quite the opposite in Counter Attack when this soldier dies he is left alone, none heeded
him, he then becomes lost. Instead of finding glory, this soldier is drowned, in his own blood, one
of the most painful ways to die. Reading these two poems gives two completely different views of
the same thing. Going into battle is one of the most traumatic events on a mans life whether it is
positive or negative. Sassoon emphasizes the brutality and horrid of the events taking place in the
battle. The words he selectively uses describe the scenes

Deicer Lab Essay
Abstract Through three different experiments we were to find the quality of NaCl as a deicer.
These experiments included testing the freezing point depression of NaCl in solution at two
different concentrations, testing for the H of an aqueous NaCl solution, and combining NaCl with
MgCl2 in an aqueous solution to test for freezing point depression. Through these various
experiments we found NaCl to be the best deicer for our region due to its proficient freezing point
depression and its cost efficiency.
Introduction
As scientists we were given the task to find the overall effectiveness of NaCl as a deicer. In
choosing the best deicer we are comparing NaCl to KCl, MgCl2, and CaCl2. We believed NaCl to
be the best deicer as it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Day One
Through our data acquisition on day one our predicted values for the change in temperature of our
NaCl solution in water was slightly off. This was most likely due to recording the freezing
temperature sometime after the precise moment of the solution freezing. However, we predicted
that as we doubled our concentration of NaCl in solution the freezing point depression would also
double which is consistent with our results. Through our day one experiments we were able to
better understand the ability of NaCl as a deicer by understanding how the freezing point depression
changes based on concentration. We could further test these results by testing with different
concentrations of NaCl.

About three months later on December 2, 1866 they were married at Croydon,Utah by Bishop

The Day Of Colorado For Spring Break
Adrian Monk, from the wonderful usa television series Monk, only drinks Sierra Springs bottled

entire life. What a time to be alive.
Daylight slowly escaped us as we finally arrived in Portland. Rental car, two parents who didn t
know where they were going and three kids who were worn out and were falling asleep in the

A Critical Analysis Of The Positive Accounting Theory
Preface:
The Normative theory of accounting prescribes the accounting treatment and disclosure
requirements for a particular scenario. Whereas, the positive accounting theory is a method which
tries to explain and predict a particular scenario and the resultant accounting treatments an entity
would adopt but does not prescribe a concrete set of rules or treatment.
Analysis:
The Positive Accounting Theory focuses more on the schematics and operations of various business
relationships and the assistance of accounting in functioning of these. For example the disclosure of
financial statements in the relationship between the management and stake holders.
The Efficient Market Hypothesis developed in the 1960 and it advocated a perfect market ... Show

As a result this is priced into the pay of the managers. Therefore in case of these contracts the
managers bear a part of the agency costs in times when their acts of self interest are anticipated and
cannot be monitored. There may be cases wherein the rewards of the managers may be dependent
upon the profit / numbers reported and hence they may resort to tweaking these for their personal
benefit.
A fine example to explain the above hypothesis would be in case of entities wherein the
managers are rewarded in the form of shares in the company. This on one hand serves as an
incentive and also leads to aligning of the goals of the manager to increasing the value of the
company in the market in future periods as it also results in increase of wealth the manager s
personal wealth.(Healy, 1985)
In a scenario wherein such a theory is in operation the external auditor acts as the representatives of
the stakeholders in upholding the ethical and academic correctness of the accounting framework
adopted by the managers. They need to demand the basis of incentives to the managers and ensure
that in case of the borrowed funds the accounting based controls are in place to protect the interests
of the lenders and

Katrina And Hurricane Katrina Similarities
It has been over a decade that we witnessed the catastrophe that wreaked havoc on New Orleans.
That infamous catastrophe is popularly known as Hurricane Katrina. However, in recent news it
appears that we have another disastrous hurricane within our midst. Hurricane Harvey has since
devastated the state of Texas, and more specifically the large city of Houston. This article helps to
detail the comparisons between the two hurricanes. Although Hurricane Harvey is still in effect,
there are many similarities and differences that we can already see between it and Hurricane Katrina
. One main difference is the cities population sizes; while New Orleans had an estimated 455,000
people, Houston has a population of two million people. The city of New Orleans also resided
below sea level. The precautions to hurricanes were also very unique. For New Orleans there
was an issued mandatory evacuation a day before the storm made landfall. Although, there was
an evacuation about 100,00 people remained stuck in the city. However, for Houston there was
no evacuation issued, civilians were simply encouraged to take shelter. A few days after Harvey
made landfall, people were then urged to leave the area. One similarity is that both of the cities
had systems to keep from possible flooding. New Orleans had a system of levee walls and
Houston had a system of waterways and bayous. When Hurricane Katrina made landfall near the
Louisianaand Mississippi border, it was categorized as a category

Memory and Fortune in the Odyssey
When scholars analyze themes of meaning in the Homeric epic The Odyssey, a common area of
focus is the significance of memory and forgetting to the story. One interpretation of the text poses
that characters being able to remember Odysseus brings about fortunate consequences for the
protagonist, while forgetting about him or his deeds leads to negative ones. However, the forgetting
of Odysseuss transgressions by the suitor s fathers at the end of the epic contradicts this as
Odysseus is spared through it. It is through the juxtaposition of Athena s requests for memory and
forgetting, respectively, at the beginning and conclusion of the epic that show the retention of the
memory of Odysseus by others is not inherently beneficial nor detrimental to him. Rather, memory
is a tool: a double edged sword that can either improve or worsen his condition based on
circumstance. What is inherent, however, is the tendency of events to progress, albeit slowly and
circuitously, towards the inevitable homecoming of Odysseus, his retaking of the seat of power,
and the return to normalcy on Icatha. Memory and forgetting merely serve as a means to achieve
that fated end, rather than being objects of meaning themselves. That the remembrance of Odysseus
by other characters helps him out later on in the epic is certainly supported by events that transpire
in the first half of the story. The action begins with Athena pleading with her father Zeus to release
Odysseus from his two decade

Drug Use And Its Effect On The Global Increase Of Death...
Introduction Illicit drug use is a prevalent issue in today s society. According to the Australian
Institute of Health and Welfare, the global increase of death and disease can be largely attributed
to the illegal use of drugs (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Though the rates of illegal drug use have
remained constant in recent years, there has been a shift in the use of specific drugs (Illicit Use of
Drugs, 2013). One drugthat has received a lot of attention due to an apparent increase in usage is
Methamphetamine. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulantdrug that has been a source of
controversy within Australia. Though the usage of methamphetamine in Australia has remained
constant over the past few years, there has been a significant change in the preferred form of the
drug (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). For example, the usage of methamphetamine powder saw a
significant decrease from 2010 to 2013. In contrast, the use of the crystalline form more
commonly know as ice nearly doubled in the same time frame (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Due to
the increase of ice usage, as well as the highly addictive nature of the drug, many are concerned that
Australia is in the midst of an ice epidemic. This essay will examine methamphetamine s
pharmacokinetic properties, its pharmacological mechanisms, the long and short term effects of
use, as well as discuss the prevalence of ice in Australia.

Rhodes Must Fall Movement Essay

created and encouraged by students at the University of Cape Town in response to The

Movement was created by the students in order for black students to feel like they belong and
included in the university, as well as for equality for black students and students of colour within
UCT. On the 9th of March 2015, a student from UCT threw human excrement at the statue of Cecil

Decolonisation can be defined as a process which always was and will continue to be a violent
process. This is due to the fact that one man will be replacing another using the same force that
was used to colonise them (Fanon, 2001). Decolonisation can be described as being a process of
complete disorder as it is when two or more conflicting forces meet one another. These opposing
forces will have their own beliefs as well as different ways of doing certain tasks (Fanon, 2001).
The movement of Rhodes Must Fall is exactly that. During the movement, violence is seen when
human excrement is thrown at the statue of Cecil John Rhodes. Another representation of
violence is the sudden outbreak of one of the leaders and the vandalism that was present.
Although Fanon states that violence will always be a part of the decolonisation process, I do not
believe that we should associate and include violence when standing up for what we believe in, as
this may infringe on peoples human rights if one does not feel safe in a certain situation where
violence is a prominent

usually called quatrains a rhyme scheme is in each quatrain as well. The poem deals with a group
of neighbors at a funeral dealing with the sudden deathof a young girl. Ransom s main point is that
death can be an unexpected, merciless, and permanent event and to show how fragile life can

It is easy to ignore the possibility of our friends or family dying at any moment or day. Death
always seems categorized with a person being of older age. If an elderly person passes away
from a disease or an organ failure in a hospital, it is expected. If a little girl is murdered or died in
an accident; then it is an unforeseen tragedy. When at a funeral, the friends and relatives of the
deceased all think about the same thing. The memories of the past clash with the reality of the
present. They wonder how a person who was previously so full of life and character now a

The Importance Of Safe Sex In High School
You wake up in the middle of the night to your child screaming. It s 4 in the morning and you
have school at 8:45 the next morning. That s the life of a teenage mom, and to many who think
it s not real, it is. Teenage pregnancy is still a very real occurrence in America and there are more
than 200,000 babies born each year to teenage moms. Due to the amount of babies born to girls
under the age of 19, parenting classes should be a required class in high schools. This parenting
class could teach girls the importance of safe sex, how much it costs to raise a baby and also
show how much your life can change when you have a child. Parenting classes could teach the
importance of safe sex to teenage girls. Many girls in high schooltake the risk of unprotected sex
and to understand this issue we need to look at the statistics. According to www.dosomething.org,
90% of teenage girls who have unprotected sex end up pregnant within just one year. Also
according to www.betterhealth.org, 51% of females are sexually active before they get medication
contraceptive prescribed by a doctor. 40% of high school seniors also do not use a condom which
significantly increases the risk of a pregnancy. With the chance that condoms don t work or if it
rips, the change of pregnancy increases. This class could show girls the importance of birth control,

Reflection Paper On Extroverts
Reflection: The topic of introverts should not be compelled into acting as if they are extroverts
that was presented by Susan Cain in her TED talk really connects to me because I personally
identify myself as an introvert. Similar to Susan Cain, I would describe myself as reserved,
mellow and comfortable with being alone. I enjoy being by myself and listening to music while
getting deep into the thoughts in my head. I don t really like getting small casual conversations
with strangers and I get emotionally drained with being in a large group of people. These are
some of the things that my little introverted self likes to do. But being quiet and not outgoing is
not the most desirable thing to do, as this is true for my family, friends and the society.
Throughout my life, I have been forced into thinking that if I don t get out there and approach
people, be as outgoing as I possibly could, I will never be successful in life and have others
appreciate me. In a way, it seem like everyone and everything around me is trying to force me to
be something that I m not, which is being an extrovert. This is the same for society as well.
Society expects everyone, especially those who are introverted to be gregarious and make a
statement or act like an extrovert. Society makes it seem that if we don t be in a certain way, in
this case being like an extrovert, no one will get anywhere in their lives, or we can t have it all .
This concept is heavily used in companies and in the business world. When companies look for
potential employees, they tend to look for those who are outgoing and cordial because they think
that they will represent the company well. Often times these companies won t choose those who
seem introverted because they think that they are too soft spoken to represent them in a way that
these companies want them to. We often think that those who are outgoing and sociable are the
ones who make great leaders. But in fact, introverts are the ones that make better leaders because
they are more likely to have their fellow members to come up with their own ideas. Examples of
great leaders in the world who were introverts are Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Rosa Parks.
While extroverts may not let others form

Ode On A Grecian Urn John Keats Analysis
In the poem Ode on a Grecian Urn, John Keats talks about three drawings that he sees on an
ancient urn. Throughout the poem, Keats uses rhetorical questions, imagery, and a change in tone
to explain to the readers what he sees on the urn and the feelings he is getting from the old urn s
pictures. He helps the reader understand there is a deeper meaning beneath the surface of the art
and how the urn is teaching life lessons while it stays there silent. In the first stanzalines 5 7, the
poem asks what leaf fring d legend haunts about thy shape of deities or morals or both... , and
this starts off the description of the first drawing Keats sees on the urn. The first stanza ends
with multiple rhetorical questions, and Keats uses these questions as a way to get the reader to
think about the images that he is seeing. He also personifies the urn and is asking these
questions to the urn. Even though the urn cannot respond, he still asks the questions to get the
reader to start visualizing what the drawing has. There are people present, but he s asking if they
are gods or mortal people. He s asking about the woman and what is going on between the men
and the woman, and he says what wild ecstasy (line 10) referencing a party that might be going

Woofers produce low sound frequencies. After that there are subwoofers. They produce the

these is that they can be big and take up space and therefore I don t recommend them for small

The name Walter Payton is one that needs no introduction. He was the NFL Player of the Year
and Most Valuable Player in both 1977 and 1985. His list of accomplishments include catching
492 pass receptions for 4,538 yards, 15 touchdowns, and passing 34 times for 331 yards and 8
touchdowns. As you can see, Walter Payton is one of the greatest players ever. Walter Payton is a
class act, and will always be remembered as a pioneer on the gridiron.
Marcus Allen is a man who commands attention every time he steps on the field. Marcus is the
only running back that is just as dangerous catching the ball out the backfield as he is running the
ball. Holding records that range from most catches in a season to most yards in a season; Marcus
Allen is the most divers running back the N.F.L. has ever saw. Marcus also has donated a lot of
money to different foundations.
To be considered one of the greatest running backs of all time you must posses the qualities not
just of a good runner, but also as a good person. All three of these men posses those qualities and
are the greatest running backs of all time. Moreover,

Nietzsche Overcoming Nihilism Analysis
Friedrich Nietzsche: Overcoming Nihilism
The understanding of Friedrich Nietzsche s argument suggests that we can overcome nihilism.
Nihilism suggests that all values are untrue and nothing is justifiable, and Nietzsche believes one
can overcome it by revaluating our values (Nietzsche et al. 1887). From the following quote, I
understand that Nietzsche has two main arguments, one of which is a cultural debunking argument
which refers to a social selection and the other is a consequence based argument which is the bad
consequences of us subscribing to the slave morality. Considering these two arguments, Nietzsche
notions that by devaluating our values, one could start seeking power and answers. One final
argument Nietzsche mentions is that we are all incomplete nihilists and we need to become
complete nihilists by creating our own values. All in all, Nietzsche claims that cultural debunking
arguments, consequence based arguments and devaluating our values will help one overcome
nihilism.
Firstly, by culturally debunking theories, Nietzsche believes we can find meaning in something that
is not already there. Nihilism states that existence has no aim , unity or truth to it, making life
valueless as a result (1888). Nietzsche states that we have to put meaning into this fictitious world
and by doing so, we can deposit a true world beyond the world we re familiar with. In premise one
of the cultural debunking argument, Nietzsche states that society has a concern with

Tuition Assistance Program Reflection
The skills that I need to learn over the next 12 months are Phlebotomy, faster keyboard typing
skills, and critical thinking methods. I also need to improve and develop my patient care skills
that is an important key to be successful in my future career. I searched about the Tuition
Assistance Program that currently my employer is offering. I received the phone number and the
email address of the person that is responsible for this program. My colleagues believe that the
employer gives the tuition assistance to the employee who can work full time, the problem is I
work part time, but still I want to try this opportunity and talk to that assigned person and ask about
the Tuition Assistance Program. I also have a plan to use

The Dangers Of Freedom In The Film Under The Same Moon
Freedom is acquired through adversity. Adversity comes with fear. Many breakthroughs may
they be scientific, political, or social, have come about after overcoming adversity. Fear is
natural and expected when making decisions that will alter the future. But despite this fear,
breakthroughs are still possible. Every day, people are pushing at the boundaries of life to
expand general knowledge and to build better lives for them and their children. Some may say
that fear is a big enough threat to stop freedom. However, I assert that fear accompanies freedom
and every time freedom is established, no matter how insignificant, fear is overcame. When fleeing
from oppression or taking huge risks in life in hopes of obtaining physical or financial freedom,...

There are some who argue that when a woman decides to dress in a way that shows off her skin,
she is asking for negative attention from men. This reason is why the locker room behavior of
men is borderline accepted in primarily American culture. When women are told that the way
that they dress puts themselves in danger with men, it shames females into thinking that their
freedom to dress is less important because they have to worry about how they are going to be
treated. Though I concede that there is no reason to show off inappropriate areas of the body
publicly, I still insist that a woman should be able to choose to wear what she wants without
being afraid of the consequences. After all, clothes are just clothes. My main point is that women
shouldn t have to be afraid because their freedom is more valuable than any man who would take
advantage of them. Being safe in this circumstance is purely outrageous when the fact that women
can wear clothes however they want and choose their freedom over the safety that is ensured by
covering up. Another example that goes hand in hand with freedom to wear what is chosen is the
clear backpacks that students of Parkland High School in Florida are required to now use as a
result of the shooting in February. The freedom of these students is being taken away so that
teachers and administrators can ensure that the students are not

Investigating The Risk And Benefits Of The Pertussis...
HLSC122 Assessment #2
Scenario Two involves investigating the risk and benefits of the pertussis immunization. Farah, a
mother of her 2 week old son Rami, decided she needs to know more about the risk of the
immunization before she makes her final decision and immunize her son. The question that was
given was: In infants, how does being immunized against pertussis, compared with not being
immunized, effect morbidity and mortality? A search process was documented in this essay to
show how research can be performed in order to answer this particular scenario and question.
Key words PICO structure
The key words chosen were infants , immunization and pertussis. They were located by looking at
the question and what was being asked. Choosing key words allows quality research to be done
and evidence to be found in order to answer the PICO question. The PICO structure and question
guide was also used. This structure is a good strategy to break down the question, find the key
words and main topics to be focused on researched. It s important to understand that the PICO
system is a quantitative numerical system therefore it answers questions like how much, how many
and how often, and measures values and counts (Liamputtong, 2016).
The population is infants and babies from one month old to 23 months old or around the
immunising age. The population can be narrowed down by researching the age that infants are
given the pertussis immunization in order to get a more focused

Starbucks Pest Analysis
1.1 PESTLE C for Starbucks UK
The PESTLE C defines a framework to analyze the different macro economic factors that are being
used to scan external environment that are the components of the strategic management. This is
used for external analysis while conducting market research and it gives the outline of the different
environmental factors. It is a tool that is strategic in nature to understand the growth or decline in
the market, the current position of a business and also provide directions for future successful
information (Gupta, 2013).
1.1.1 Political Environment
The political factors are all about how much and to a degree the government can intervene in an
economy of a country. This may include the government policies; the stability or instability in the
political system; trade policies of the foreign countries; tax regulations; labor market law; laws
related to the environmental factors and the restrictions on trade etc. ... Show more content on

This can be considered as a most significant change in the social system of UK and other countries
of the world and will have impact on the performance of Starbucks.
As Starbucks is going to expand its customer base by including the middle and lower class
customers so, it has to face a Socio Cultural challenge as it has to lower down the prices by not
compromising on the quality of its products. The trend for CSR and green related concepts are
increasing among the consumers so, it needs to consider these factors while operating in the
modern business environment. Lastly, the baby boomers are retiring which means their spending
habit will also shift so, to overcome this issue the company should have to look out on how to tap
the generation X and the Millennials to make them the part of its strategy (Anon,

The Roles of The National Security Enterprise
The National Security Enterprise (NSE) is the overarching government apparatus responsible for
national security decision making. This is generally thought of as the National Security Council
(NSC) and the Department and Agencies they represent. However, Roger Z George and Harvey
Rishikof point out in The National SecurityEnterprise: Navigating the Labyrinth that national
security decision making may rest with the President and the NSC but is significantly influenced by
the Modern Media (including the traditional Press), lobbyist, think tanks, and the US Congress. A
significant role for the NSE is ensuring that these different elements of government can exchange
information, share responsibilities, and collaborate to avert or at least minimize damage to U.S.
foreign and domestic interests.(George and Rishikof 2011)
The National Security Act of 1947 created the National Security Council. The National Security
Council (NSC) is the principal White House institution that is responsible for coordinating national
security strategy, advising the president on national security issues, overseeing policy
implementation through the interagency process, and responding to national security crises.
(George and Rishikof 2011) The exact make up of the National Security Council has fluctuated with
the changes in Presidential administrations. It has always consisted of the Vice President, the
Secretaries of Defense, and State, the two statutory advisors the Chairman of the Joint

Importance Of Public Speaking Speech
Before I started taking UMUC SPCH 100, I never encountered a situation where I had to use
public speaking skills at all. Just the thought of having to speak in front of a class as a requirement
made me nervous. But that wasn t the only challenge I was facing mentally. Since I never had any
public speaking experience before, things such as body language, tone, eye contact, etc. were easily
forgotten since my last speechclass over five years ago. All of that was easily spotted in the
process of making my self introduction video when I kept deciding to do retakes repeatedly. In the
end, I managed to produce a product that would keep me from failing but it was nothing that I
could be proud of.
When it came time for the second speech to be due I was relieved almost that it would be
another prerecorded session. I thought about how I could have sort of cheat the fundamentals
of public speaking by just doing retakes any time I messed up. But my luck ran out when it was
changed to an in class project where we would use our peers as an interview partner. I was glad
that we have been doing a few impromptu speeches up to this point. Without any sort of warm
up beforehand it would have been a far worse speech than it already was. After interviewing my
partner, I thought I had compiled enough information but I failed to transition it to a well
organized speech. I took this as a good wakeup call that I really needed to practice the basic of
public speaking. After delivering my speech I

Compare And Contrast The Liberal And Conservative Views On...
My philosophical viewpoint on the political parties can closely relate to both Liberal, and
Conservative. I will explain why I compare myself to both parties, and explain my views on
controversial topics. Liberalism part of the left wing of politics and the opposite of
conservative, Liberals have more tolerance for change, while conservatives would like to stick
with tradition attitude, values, and more so relates to politics rather than social reform. First and
most importantly gun control is an extremely popular topic as of right now with all the
shootings going on. Liberals protest that citizens should not have the right to keep and bear arms
because of all the shootings going on, while conservatives think that everyone with credibility
should be able to own a gun and protect himself or herself, and I completely agree with that. If
we as a whole make owning a gun illegal, not only will it start a big outrage across the country
and probably cause more destruction and death, but also it will also not help. For example drugs,
they are illegal but anyone can get it, and guns are much... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, conservatives are opposed of gay marriage, and abortion while liberals are not
opposed to it, this is where a lot of the conflict starts because some people think that it is
unconstitutional. Another big topic would be free health care, my personal opinion about this
is as said, the price of health care should go down for families who can t afford it but I think we
should at least keep the price slightly the same for capable families that way we can at least pay
for the technology to keep our medical field moving on and pay the doctors for their delicate
work in the field, without doctors we wouldn t have made it this far and they save lives daily, this
should really be

  • 3. Sexual Identity And Gender Expression To conceptualise sexual identity and gender expression, Judith Butler (1990) proposes a poststructuralist perspective; that gendered behaviour (masculinity and femininity) is learned, a performative act, and that gender is constructed through a heterosexual matrix . She describes this as [A] hegemonic/epistemic model of gender intelligibility that assumes that for bodies to cohere and make sense there must be a stable sex expressed through a stable gender (masculine expresses discursive male, feminine expresses female) that is oppositionally and hierarchically defined through the compulsory practice of heterosexuality (Butler, 1990; 151). She proposes that one is born a particular sex, which in turn dictates one s gender, which in turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reality, from the realist perspective, is seen to have a stratification of existence, which Bhaskar (date) outlines as the empirical , the actual and the real . The empirical is the experienced, a sub set of the actual; the things and events in their concrete historicity, and these are both a sub set of the real; the structures, the internal relations of the actual parts. Socially, realists distinguish the empirical reality of social life from the real objects whose causal powers effect social change through actual mechanisms. This ontological depth has bearing when exploring the sex gender relationship, where there are real anatomical sex differences, and empirically real gender differences. Rather than deterministic , sex categories are causal to result in a particular gender. One born to a particular anatomical sex tends to be a particular gender; the outcome is probable. That is because of the actual mechanisms, the cultural, religious, historical truths, that create a tendency between the real and the empirical . This is what Butler somewhat fails to portray: the influences of race, class, and time. Heteronormativity is the term coined to define the systemic and pervasive belief, structurally, socially and somewhat unconsciously, that heterosexuality is the normal and inevitable sexuality, it makes sense . It is grounded in determinism; that one s anatomical sex must compliment their partner s opposite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first amendment to the United State s constitution is one of the most important writings in our short history. The first amendment has defined and shaped our country into what it is today. The amendment has constantly been challenged and ratified through literature, court cases, and our media. In fact, media is driven by the first amendment. The most famous defamation case, which still sets precedent in today s cases, is New York Times v. Sullivan (1964). New York Times v. Sullivan (1964) is the leading case on the question of defamation liability for media defendants. The case, heard before the Supreme Court, declared that public officials and figures could not recover for an alleged defamation unless they can prove both that the statement was false, and was made with actual malice. This decision prevents the news media from reporting on false or slanderous stories. It protects the country s public icons seeing they are almost always in the spotlight. In addition to defamation hindering media, obscenity and pornography on the net have placed limitations on what some websites may provide in terms of content. Under Miller v. • 5. Into The Wild Sacrifice Analysis Patty Zhang Gilligan Honors American Literature 26 September 2016 Sacrifice as a Value Trade off Between Society and Individual In any conception of the human condition, sacrifice inevitably accompanies the choices that life presents. Yet, the definition of sacrifice is ambiguous and relies on individual interpretation: it can be willingly trading lesser possessions for more desirable goals or forcibly relinquishing values. Despite the distinct social contexts and time periods, Jon Krakauer s Into the Wild and Kate Chopin s The Awakening reflect similar notions of sacrificethrough their protagonists, Chris McCandless and Edna Pontellier respectively. Edna becomes increasingly dissatisfied as a mother woman once she realizes that sacrifice means choosing between an outward existence which conforms and an inward life which questions (13). After the summer at Grand Isle, Edna begins to pursue her own interests, relieving herself of obligations because she no longer feels content to feed upon opinion when her own soul had invited her (94). Edna s awakening is directly caused by her perception of sacrifice. Realizing that fulfilling social roles necessitates giving up her autonomy, Edna fights against the sacrifice that her culture expects from women. She moves out into a pigeon house and refuses to entertain guests on reception day, small actions which resist the social pressures threatening her personal identity. Edna consciously destroys the facade of a traditional life for her genuine desires, noting that it is better to wake up after all, even to suffer, rather than to remain a dupe to illusions (112). Self discovery is worth life s delirium to Edna; the possible social repercussions and stigma are painful but necessary sacrifices. Edna dismantles the false life she leads, and with it social benefits and status, believing that the the suffering is preferable to sacrificing and repressing her true self. The media portrays us as manic delinquents with no solid past and no concrete future. The main points of teenagers that are warped into a lie are appearance and generalization of actions. Teenagers are seen as immature and with no future. But are we not more mature than our adult role models by not generalizing about them? I admit that I personally know a few people that have made some choices that have resulted in jail sentences and other consequences. Just because there are a few teenagers like that does not mean that we are all alike in that aspect. Another misconception about teenagers is that the inner city or black teens are involved in gangs. This is one of the lowest and cheapest misinterpretations. Generalizing by race and where people live (and in turn generalizing because of social class) makes me sick. I see this as a pitiful portrayal and a complete lie. The media also portrays teens as spending their time doing nothing. They put us in shows and in commercials in groups of three or four, complete with the previously discussed tattoos and loose pants, just sitting around doing nothing. They send the message across that we are basically just a quot;crime waiting to happen. quot; Which is not the case. About 98% of the teens I know responsibly arrange and map out their plans. Very few of them sit around with no job waiting to do something wrong. Another part of this misinterpretation is the attitude of teenagers in general. With what he continues to say it resembles the attitude of Lieutenant Dan in the movie Forest Gump, instead of praising Forest for saving his life he becomes angry and bitter towards him. Hurricane Harvey has since devastated the state of Texas, and more specifically the large city of Houston. This article helps to detail the comparisons between the two hurricanes. Although Hurricane Harvey is still in effect, there are many similarities and differences that we can already see between it and Hurricane Katrina . One main difference is the cities population sizes; while New Orleans had an estimated 455,000 people, Houston has a population of two million people. The city of New Orleans also resided below sea level. The precautions to hurricanes were also very unique. For New Orleans there was an issued mandatory evacuation a day before the storm made landfall. Although, there was an evacuation about 100,00 people remained stuck in the city. However, for Houston there was no evacuation issued, civilians were simply encouraged to take shelter. A few days after Harvey made landfall, people were then urged to leave the area. • 19. Memory and Fortune in the Odyssey When scholars analyze themes of meaning in the Homeric epic The Odyssey, a common area of focus is the significance of memory and forgetting to the story. One interpretation of the text poses that characters being able to remember Odysseus brings about fortunate consequences for the protagonist, while forgetting about him or his deeds leads to negative ones. However, the forgetting of Odysseuss transgressions by the suitor s fathers at the end of the epic contradicts this as Odysseus is spared through it. It is through the juxtaposition of Athena s requests for memory and forgetting, respectively, at the beginning and conclusion of the epic that show the retention of the memory of Odysseus by others is not inherently beneficial nor detrimental to him. Rather, memory is a tool: a double edged sword that can either improve or worsen his condition based on circumstance. What is inherent, however, is the tendency of events to progress, albeit slowly and circuitously, towards the inevitable homecoming of Odysseus, his retaking of the seat of power, and the return to normalcy on Icatha. Memory and forgetting merely serve as a means to achieve that fated end, rather than being objects of meaning themselves. That the remembrance of Odysseus by other characters helps him out later on in the epic is certainly supported by events that transpire in the first half of the story. Unfortunately, too many Americans do not take time to truly understand the issues and the reasoning behind both sides of the controversy. • 27. Reflection Paper On Extroverts Reflection: The topic of introverts should not be compelled into acting as if they are extroverts that was presented by Susan Cain in her TED talk really connects to me because I personally identify myself as an introvert. Similar to Susan Cain, I would describe myself as reserved, mellow and comfortable with being alone. I enjoy being by myself and listening to music while getting deep into the thoughts in my head. I don t really like getting small casual conversations with strangers and I get emotionally drained with being in a large group of people. These are some of the things that my little introverted self likes to do. But being quiet and not outgoing is not the most desirable thing to do, as this is true for my family, friends and the society. Throughout my life, I have been forced into thinking that if I don t get out there and approach people, be as outgoing as I possibly could, I will never be successful in life and have others appreciate me. In a way, it seem like everyone and everything around me is trying to force me to be something that I m not, which is being an extrovert. This is the same for society as well. Society expects everyone, especially those who are introverted to be gregarious and make a statement or act like an extrovert. Society makes it seem that if we don t be in a certain way, in this case being like an extrovert, no one will get anywhere in their lives, or we can t have it all . This concept is heavily used in companies and in the business world. When companies look for potential employees, they tend to look for those who are outgoing and cordial because they think that they will represent the company well. Often times these companies won t choose those who seem introverted because they think that they are too soft spoken to represent them in a way that these companies want them to. We often think that those who are outgoing and sociable are the ones who make great leaders. But in fact, introverts are the ones that make better leaders because they are more likely to have their fellow members to come up with their own ideas. Examples of great leaders in the world who were introverts are Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Rosa Parks. While extroverts may not let others form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the first stanzalines 5 7, the poem asks what leaf fring d legend haunts about thy shape of deities or morals or both... , and this starts off the description of the first drawing Keats sees on the urn. The first stanza ends with multiple rhetorical questions, and Keats uses these questions as a way to get the reader to think about the images that he is seeing. • 46. Importance Of Public Speaking Speech Before I started taking UMUC SPCH 100, I never encountered a situation where I had to use public speaking skills at all. Just the thought of having to speak in front of a class as a requirement made me nervous. But that wasn t the only challenge I was facing mentally. Since I never had any public speaking experience before, things such as body language, tone, eye contact, etc. were easily forgotten since my last speechclass over five years ago. All of that was easily spotted in the process of making my self introduction video when I kept deciding to do retakes repeatedly. In the end, I managed to produce a product that would keep me from failing but it was nothing that I could be proud of. When it came time for the second speech to be due I was relieved almost that it would be another prerecorded session. I took this as a good wakeup call that I really needed to practice the basic of public speaking. After delivering my speech I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will explain why I compare myself to both parties, and explain my views on controversial topics. Liberalism part of the left wing of politics and the opposite of conservative, Liberals have more tolerance for change, while conservatives would like to stick with tradition attitude, values, and more so relates to politics rather than social reform. First and most importantly gun control is an extremely popular topic as of right now with all the shootings going on. Liberals protest that citizens should not have the right to keep and bear arms because of all the shootings going on, while conservatives think that everyone with credibility should be able to own a gun and protect himself or herself, and I completely agree with that. If we as a whole make owning a gun illegal, not only will it start a big outrage across the country and probably cause more destruction and death, but also it will also not help. For example drugs, they are illegal but anyone can get it, and guns are much... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, conservatives are opposed of gay marriage, and abortion while liberals are not opposed to it, this is where a lot of the conflict starts because some people think that it is unconstitutional. Another big topic would be free health care, my personal opinion about this is as said, the price of health care should go down for families who can t afford it but I think we should at least keep the price slightly the same for capable families that way we can at least pay for the technology to keep our medical field moving on and pay the doctors for their delicate work in the field, without doctors we wouldn t have made it this far and they save lives daily, this should really be ...
