Using Radio Transmission to Promote Development Projects
In this chapter, a brief review of the relevant research literature will be presented to generate a
theoretical outline of this proposed research. This theoretical outline will guide the research strategy.
Fraser Estrada (2002) commented that since late 1970s, the importance of community participation
at all stages of a development initiative has been commonly acknowledged. Parvalla (2003)
defined (as cited in Ballur, 2012) community as a territorially bound group with some commonality
of interest (p, 92) who are usually sharing a common language for daily communication with the
same cultural heritage. It is clear from this discussion that for developing any community, radio, in
particular community radio can be a supportive tool to cover wide range of population. In addition,
it has a great influencing power to motivate the marginalised group of people
According to the Community Radio Installation, Broadcast and Operation Policy (2008) by
Ministry of Information of People s Republic of Bangladesh, in the guidelines part, it stated that
Community radio is, in effect, a form of public service broadcasting, which serves a community
rather than the whole nation. Community radio is an own resource of a community, which will
reflect the outlook and attitude, norms and culture and thought and ideology of the very community
people (p, 1). While defining the community radio AMARC (the French acronym for the World
Association of Community Radio) (as cited in Ballur, 2012)

We Were Liars Essay
What actually defines success? In the book We Were Liars, written by E. Lockhart, the
protagonist Cadence Sinclair is starting to reinvent herself, as she becomes more and more aware
of the world outside or her small isolated bubble of rich people, dripping with privilege. The
Sinclairs spends entire summers on their private island, drinking expensive wine and eating posh
food. Their worst nightmare is being abnormal, hence the carefully crafted outer image of the
perfect family, which, of course, could not possibly be more inaccurate. Cadence s, or Cady s,
grandfather is ruling the roost, with his three daughter at his feet, who are all hoping to one day
inherit his fortune. Throughout the entire book, Cady is starting to challenge what is... Show more

We were liars is a story about the ideals we are all supposed to aspire to, simply because of the
way our society defines success; as being forceful, reckless, hasty and bold. The dauntless ideal
Cadence falls prey for. I think the book is trying to shed light on the insidious backside of our
idea of heroism, and the too often gruesome consequences it might bring. That it more frequently
than not results in the unnecessary suffering of others. Cady s cousin Mirren on the other hand,
had a very different life motto: Always be kinder than you have to . Despite being just as
privileged as Cady, she manage to do what Cady fails so strikingly. Mirren shows that it is not

Research Essay Russian Revolution
According to Dictionary.com, A revolution is an overthrow or repudiation and the thorough
replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed
(Dictionary.com Staff). During the Russian Revolution, many of the citizens were left to starve
and were controlled by a corrupt government due to the poor leadership of Czar Nicholas II.The
people of Russia were greatly affected by the Revolution by this because it changed their everyday
lives forever. Poor leadership, scarcity of food, and corrupt governing can cause riots, rebellion and
death to the citizens of Russia. The Russian Revolution left a lasting effect on Europe and its
people by executing them and leaving them to starve because of the defective government and
leadership that Russia possessed.
The Russian Revolution left behind a long effect on Europe by Russian citizens losing faith in the
leadership of Czar Nicholas II because of the corruption that occurred to the Russian government.
According to History.com, By 1917, most Russians had lost faith in the leadership ability of Czar
Nicholas II. Government corruption was rampant, the Russian economy remained backward, and
Nicholas repeatedly dissolved the Duma, the Russian parliament established after the 1905
revolution, when it opposed his will (History.com Staff).Russia suffered a great deal in terms of

Compare And Contrast Plymouth And Jamestown
Long before the Founding Fathers, European countries built settlements in the wilderness of the
New World. During the 1600 s, English settlers founded Plymouth and Jamestown along the Eastern
Coast of North America. Puritans established Plymouth to escape the Catholic Church of England.
The Virginia Company established Jamestown in search of fortune. Both settlements managed
unavoidable contact with the natives. Although both Plymouth and Jamestown s interactions with
Native Americans included early encounters, diplomatic intermediaries, and peace treaties,
Jamestown s approach differed from by displaying less aggression. While both settlements had early
encounters with Native Americans, they demonstrated different levels of aggression. Early... Show

Jamestown colonists signed the Treaty of Chickahominy in 1614, which guaranteed that Native
Americans would pay an annual tribute of corn to Jamestown ( Jamestown and the Indians: The
First Decade. ). Jamestown depended on the tribute because much of their agriculture focused on
the cash crop, tobacco ( Jamestown and the Indians: The First Decade. ). In 1616,
Openchancanough ordered the natives to withhold their annual payment ( Jamestown and the
Indians: The First Decade. ). When Natives claimed the tribute had already been payed, the
English opened fire killing between 20 and 40 Natives ( Indian Wars List and Timeline. ).
Jamestown s demands again ended in a blood bath. In contrast, John Carver of Plymouth and

The treaty assured mutual protection from harm, respect for property rights, and assistance in time

The Increment of the Proportion of Nurses with a...
Recommendations The fourth recommendation suggests the increment of the proportion of
nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020. In this way, it is fundamental to note that
such an increase is likely to impact extensively on the performance of nurses and the general
efficiency of the nursing profession. An increase of such nurses to 80% would certainly mean
that the care and duty normally provided by the nurses will certainly improve. Considering that
most nurses only hold diploma certificates as the basis for their service, an increase in degrees
will mean that more nurses will have learnt more about the nursing profession. In this regard, their
performance would be expected to increase drastically. In the same way, the government will
certainly be forced to chuck out more money in paying the nurses since the increase in the level of
qualifications for the nurses would have to be accompanied by an increase in their salaries and
wages. On the other hand, it is presumed that such an increase in the number of nurses with degrees
might negatively affect the nursing profession in case the nurses are not sufficiently paid. Most of
them would thereby opt to offer their services in the private sector in case the government is
unwilling to remunerate them effectively. When more nurses get the degrees, they will operate
with a lot of commitment and dedication owing to the increase in their salaries and wages. By
doubling the number of nurses with a doctorate would

Good Moral Character In Silas Marner
I believe that the development of good moral character is defined by both the choices that we
make, and the experiences that we endure because of those choices. For example, If one chooses
to act out of vice, then he can expect to experience a life that is not surprisingly miserable,
because he is choosing to act out of pure self interest. On a similar level the same is true for virtue,
although it would be the opposite seeing as how virtue is based out of kindness and in doing
what is morally right. Sometimes, the choices that we make can even lead to an unexpected
twist of events, where a person who might be stuck on vice ends up choosing to take a path that
is ultimately virtuous. In the same way, the film Silas Marner reflects this idea when it comes to
three of the films main characters. Throughout the film, each of these characters must work
through a collection of their own choices and experiences, and by the end of the film we get a
better sense of whether or not their moral character has developed, and if so in what ways. Lets
begin with looking at the first of these characters, Dunstan Cass. Dunstan Cass, younger brother
of Godfrey Cass, is the very epitome of what it is like to live a life lead by vice. The only
concerns that he has are those of his own self interest, and he lacks any sense of moral virtue
whatsoever. He is arrogant, selfish, completely vile, and has an impeccable talent for lying and
being dishonest. In the words of Plutarch, Any admixture of

Whole Milk Vs Dairy Milk
Dairy milk has long been a staple of The American home throughout the years, and rightfully so.
Versus it s alternative counterparts, standard whole cow s milk is a singular natural source for
many of the body s needed nutrients. These nutrients are needed for the developing body in young
children, as well offering several benefits and enhancing performance in many athletes. Dairy
alternatives do not achieve this same offering on their own and must be enriched.
Milk is a very important source of essential vitamins and minerals. According to The Southeast
Dairy Association, just one 8 ounce serving of whole milk contains 8 grams of protein.

Another value of milk is that of its natural benefits for athletes. Chocolate Milk offers much more

Red squirrels are an important part of the ecosystem in which the oak lives. They are important
because they eat off the oak trees. That is important because the soil is fertilized from the squirrel

The Harms Of Plagiarism In Finding Forrester
In the movie Finding Forrester , it s main focus was to imply the word Plagiarism into the acts of
the main character Jamal Wallace. This plays a role later into the movie in which he is assumed to
have plagiarized the work of William Forrester a famous writer. Although the movie promotes the
harms of plagiarismit also tells a good story about a friendship amongst two strangers. Throughout
the movie Jamal Wallace developes a friendship with William Forrester that starts to become more
than just writing sessions in an apartment. They begin to find a friendship within themselves due
to their same abilities as writer, and begin to trust one another in keeping secrets solely just inside
Forrester s apartment. Both characters really show the true meaning of what a friendship should be
between two people no matter if they have the same interest or are different from one another.
Jamal is a kid from the Bronx who is shown to be an African Americanstudent that seems to be an
average student that receives C s in his classes. From the town he is from many people believe
that during this time a guy who is African American was not educated and would not go far in
anything they do but to be in jail. For Jamal at the age of 16 he didn t believe that he had a plan
of what he wanted in life so he lived as if he was a regular kid going to school. Jamal lived up to
the belief at that time that African Americans were not intelligent enough and lacked ambition
to make something of themselves. He pretends to be much less than he truly is capable of being
and doesn t feel like he needs to express how well of a writer he can be. Although he portrays this
character of being an average student at his school his test results shows that anyone can be
smart and can be there true self once they truly find what they want in there future. After Jamal
gets to know William Forrester, and begins to learn the true meaning behind writing and he
begins to find his true self through his writing and who he is as a person. He begins to love the
passion writing has to offer after being taught the true meaning of why William Forrester wrote

How Are Culture and Leadership Linked Essay
1799
1799
How are the concepts of culture and leadership linked?
Introduction:
This literature review will make use of four pieces of academic work to discuss how the concept of
culture can intrinsically affect leadership. The literature finds that the link between culture and
leadership is an important, yet complicated relationship. I will begin by discussing and defining
the central concepts of culture and leadership. I will then explain and analyse the significance of
culture upon leadership. Finally I will review Hofstede s cultural framework to assess its
significance and relevance to the topic at hand.
Culture:
To begin, culture is a phenomenon that carries multiple definitions. A simplistic view sees it as how

Some leaders skills and styles may be perfect in one nation and ineffectual in another (Shanthi,
2009). Indeed, it is not inaccurate to say that cultural sensitivity is the most important trait for
leaders to have, given the globalisation of our modern world (Wharton University, 1999). The idea
of culture being the central idealism as to why leaders act the way they do in certain environments
is linked to Contingency Theory. This theory stipulates that a leader needs to be able to adapt to the
context they face (King and Lawley, 2013).
Hofstede s framework
Geert Hofstede believed that national cultures were potentially homogenous with organisational
cultures, and that national cultures could be quantitatively identified and compared (King and
Lawley, 2013). Hofstede over a four year period carried out 116,000 morale surveys, from 72
countries, using IBM subsidiaries (Kirkman, Lowe and Gibson, 2006) and from his findings
derived a four fold dimensional framework for measuring national cultures. His first dimension,
Power Distance, is the extent to which people within a nation are accepting of the unequal
distribution of power within institutions and organisations (Hofstede, 1980). This dimension also
helps to explain the way in which leaders and subordinates interact and under what pretences (King
and Lawley, 2013). His second dimension is Uncertainty Avoidance, which measures the

President John Tyler How many people actually know of the tenth president, John Tyler? Well, I
bet not very many so I am here to give some facts. Do you know where and when he was born?
Hmmm, I thought so. He was born on March 29, 1790, in Charles City County, Virginia. This fine
man graduated from the College of William and Mary at the age of seventeen. Not impress
enough? In addition, he went on to study law and became an employee for a prestigious law firm
in Richmond. At the age of twenty one, Tyler used his father s connections to obtain a position in
the Virginia House of Delegates. This southern aristocrat... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unsurprisingly enough, they did win and Harrison assumed presidency while Tyler became the
Vice President. Their slogan was Tippecanoe and Tyler too. Hmmm, doesn t that ring a bell? Are
you with me so far? No, not yet? Well, then, let me continue. Harrison gave his inaugural speech
out in the cold and wearing neither a coat nor a hat. Unfortunately, he became ill and died a
month later. Of course, Tyler immediately assumed into presidency. Considering this event was a
first in history, many felt that he was merely an acting or temporary president. He gained the
nicknames of His Accidency and Accidental President. Fear of alienation from Harrison s
supporters, His Accidency kept the entire cabinet although he knew there were a few that hated
his guts. He vetoed a bill of resurrecting the Bank of the United States, which made everyone
much more furious. Henry Clay expelled Tyler from the Whig Party, called him a traitor, and
attempted an impeachment. Daniel Webster in the other hand stayed and supported Tyler. Who s
a traitor now? Despite all the loathing, Tyler did not loose his confidence and stubbornness. He
knew what was right for the country and did not fear to use his power. After all, he was the
president. He also vetoed two bills for higher tariffs and worked on annexation of Texas. He signed
the Texas statehood bill into law on the first day of March 1845. The Americans

Compare And Contrast The Canterbury Tales And The Cook s Tale
The Canterbury Tales has many tales that have great meaning that is told in their own special
way, depending on the reader s understanding of the tales. I chose to compare and contrast The
Prioress s Tale and The Cook s Tale. What makes these two tales the same, but different in their
own way? Of course, the common answer would be the tales are written by the same author, but
they are told by different people. These stories have in common that the main characters do what
they love, and the theme is to stay true to yourself. The main differences between the two tales are
that the characters are from different generations, they are different kinds of genre, and the role of
wrongdoing. With the tales being told the way the author wrote it, the... Show more content on

In the Prioress s Tale, the story was told of young boy, who was taught the value of life and to
always be thankful for the Christ s sweet mother. The story genre had religion and horror due to
how the story was told. Like for the religion genre, the story was told in a place of Christian
people walk, ride, and went to school in a Jewish quarters, due to country leader hate toward
Christ and His followers. The horror genre of the story, the boy was murder, for singing in the
streets, and left for dead.
The Jewish hired a murderer who took up a secret place in an alley, and as the child went by, this
cursed Jew seized and held him tight, and then cut his throat and cast him into a pit. 573 (Chaucer,
Geoffrey)
In the Cook s Tale, the story was told of young man, who had a job, but enjoy the city life more.
The story genre was a juvenile humor, of how the man would have a good time in the city life, but
went to great length to keep enjoy his jolly life. For example, he stole from his master to have the

Classical Conditioning Paper
Although classical conditioning is something that most people experience in a daily basis, it may
also be the first thing someone remembers in a day. According to Olson and Hergenhahn (2009)
classical conditioning is defined as a type of learning in which a neutral stimulus comes to elicit a
response after being paired with a stimulus that naturally brings about that response. In this paper
the subject is to describe the theory of classical conditioning as well as describing a scenario in
which one could apply classical conditioning theory to, and bring forth the scenario by showing
illustrations of how this could be used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is known as the unconditioned stimulus (UCS). Meat is the unconditioned stimulus
because at the sight of the meat the dogs begin to salivate (Feldman, 2010). The dog s response
to the meat educes salivation and is known as the unconditioned response (UCR). An
unconditioned response is defined as a reflexive and natural response that is not connected to
prior learning. Unconditioned responses always occur in the presence of the unconditioned
stimulus (Feldman, 2010). While conditioning the dogs, Pavlov would ring a bell right before
the presentation of meat. Eventually, the dogs would associate the ringing of the bell with the
meat. Therefore, the dogs would begin to salivate at the sound of the bell. At this point, Pavlov
could state that he had classically conditioned his dogs. The bell which was a prior neutral
stimulus had now become the conditioned stimulus (CS) that brought forth the conditioned
response (CR) of salivation (Feldman, 2010). Moreover, we have to ask what would happen if
these poor dogs were never again received food upon the ringing of the bell. This would lead to
extinction. Extinction occurs when a prior conditioned response decreases in frequency and
eventually disappears (Feldman, 2010). In order for Pavlov to unconditioned his dogs he would
have to break their association with the sound of the ringing bell and the presentation of food. To
do so he

Facts About The United States
Facts About the United States I believe most of us have been to a foreign country at least one
time in his/her life. Visiting other countries during vacation is a typical way to explore new
cultures as well as new places. However, there is no feeling similar to the fact that you are going
to live in a foreign country by yourself. A country you know no one living in. What makes this
feeling even harder is what you hear about that country. Is what we hear about the US true? Or is
someone trying to get advantages from distributing unreal thoughts about the US? I keep asking
myself these questions and yet I have no answer. Before I came to the US, I heard hundreds of
thousands of stories about the US. Stories that I would not have traveled to the US if I had
believed in. And until yet, there still are many people who believe in these stories. One of the
most common stories is that American people are hard to deal with. I mean, if they do not like
what you say or if you do something they do not like, you would get killed right away. But, after
I traveled to the US, I did not see that. Well, some people do carry guns with them at all times, but
they never kill anyone. They just use their guns for self defense. So, if you do not hurt them, they
will not hurt you. I believe people from all over the world have the same concept, but I do not know
why we ignore this fact and we only focus on American people. Not only was carrying guns the

Moodity Definition Essay
Literary texts can be divided into commodities and non commodities based on whether or not their
messages are benefitting the author directly. If a work is created to sell an ideal that may not
benefit the author immediately, it often has a larger impact on society, and it becomes a
commodity. However, if the work brings in any monetary value or help to its author, it is no longer
a commoditybecause it profited its creator. Because this can vary due to the use of the text by
others, literature can become a commodity to different degrees thanks to the interpretation of the
work by their audience. The term commodity itself, as coined by Marx, has a very broad definition.
The commodity is, first of all, an external object, a thing which... Show more content on

John Lennon, through his music, spread his view of the importance of world peace. He was
able to gain many followers to his movement and impact the world of music and politics through
his music. John Lennon himself was wealthy and did not need to spend his time and energy on
trying to better life for the less fortunate. Because he was actually able to send out his message
and effectively create rallies and movements in response to his views, his listeners made his
music a commodity. However, though his music was able to do a lot of good, it also was the
reason he was incredibly wealthy. Through his social status because of his wealth, he was able to
spread his message. His listeners, in order to hear his message, would buy his music and feed
into his fame and fortune. This defies the definition of commodity because his literature, or his
music, was also very beneficial to himself. Though his listeners used it to create political
awareness of the need for peace, he also used it to keep his name famous and to keep his income
steady. This complicates his music as defined as a commodity, and shows that an audience can give
something use value and make it a commodity at the same

Social Status And Social Class In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby was published in 1925 and it revolves around class and money. Social status
and class difference are two important themes of the novel and the characters are given their
power and impact by the class they belong to giving them various advantages and disadvantages.
Different characters are from different social classes in the novel. Tom Buchanan and Daisy
belonged to the upper class, Nick Caraway belonged to the middle classand the Wilson s were part
of the lower class. Gatsby had the wealth to be part of the upper class but he was not. Social classis

A History of Submissive Women in Literature
The feminine gender has long been one that has been repressed throughout history and forced to
acclimate itself to a world dominated by men. Although major improvements have been made in the
strife for equality, this continues to be a man s world. In the short stories The Chrysanthemums and
A Rose for Emily, as well as in the drama A Doll s House, the protagonists are all frustrated women
who are unfulfilled with their subservient lives. Partly imposed upon them by their setting s
historical and societal norms, they choose to either do something about it or continue to internalize
their dissatisfaction. When analyzing these pieces of literature, it becomes quite obvious which of
the protagonists fall under the category of those... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Elizabeth Hardwick, Nora is intrinsically independent and free spirited from the very
beginning of the play (294). Unni LangГҐs also wrote an essay on Ibsen s drama and about Nora s
specific motives. He wrote, When she performs acts that are generally reserved for men, or
withdraws from practices associated with women, she shows the gender attribution of these acts to
be social constructions and thereby contests their reified status (157). So, LangГҐs claims that Nora
s rebellion and discontent began long before she literally walked out on Trovald, her husband.
The events that eventually unfolded at the end of the play and that lead her to finally leave her
husband were just those last straws that broke the camel s back. Before her final stage exit, Ibsen
has Nora say, For eight years I have been patiently waiting, enforcing this idea of long lived
frustration (3.1107). Again, this idea of the rebellious woman at the end of the nineteenth century
was not only reserved to post Civil War America as was the case with Emily Grierson. Nora
Helmer and her insurgence, against all ethical and moral norms of society at the time, did not go
unnoticed in Northern Europe. According to Marilyn Yalom, The idea that a respectable woman

The Design Of The Hardware
The selection of the hardware is a very critical part of the hardware implementation of the
project; the selector must know the pros and cons on the design of each component that is being
used. The selection can lead to the failure or success of the project. Therefore, special attention is
required to the selection process and it was discussed with the specialist of the electrical and
mechanical engineering fields to be on safe side. The main components of the system that are
used in this project are as follows: 1.Motor 2.Microcontroller 3.LEDs 4.Sensor for Synchronizing

It includes a motor controller. The function of the motor controller is to convert the DC into AC.
Mechanically, these motors have simpler design than the other types of the DC motor as there is
no requirement of transferring power to the spinning rotor from the outside of the motor. The
position of the rotor is sensed by the control of a Hall Effect sensor or any other such device to
optimize torque and regulate speed. Advantages Advantages of the Brushless DC motor are their
long life, better efficiency, and high RPM with no maintenance required. Disadvantages The
design of the controllers for these types of the motors is a bit more complex and they have
relatively higher initial cost. These are the only disadvantages of the Brushless DC motor. 2.
Brushed DC motors: The generation of the torque in the brushed DC motors is coming directly
from the DC power. The internal commutation and the magnets that are stationary (magnets can be
permanent or electromagnet) supply the power to the motor to generate the torque. These motors
include carbon brushes to transfer the power to the rotating shaft. Advantages The cost required
for a brushed DC motor is relatively low compared to other DC motors. These are highly reliable
and have very simpler and basic type to control the motor. Disadvantages The major disadvantages
of this type of motor include a shorter life span

Why Statistics Are Part Of Everyday Life
Statistics are part of everyday life. Whether we know it or not we use them in some way, shape or
form during the course of our day. Business and medical professionals, sociologists and scientists
alike all utilize statistics in order to determine probabilities of outcomes. The purpose of this paper
is to discuss what I have learned about statisticsin during this class covered during the last five
weeks. The topics I will cover inform the class are descriptive statistics, inferential statistics,
hypothesis development and testing, selection of appropriate statistical tests and evaluating
statistical results. The intent is to discuss the application of the elements in analyzing and making
decisions about data. Our book states that there are many kinds of descriptive statistics.
Calculating measures of central tendency and measures of variability are two we focused on. As
their names suggest, measures of central tendency indicate what is most typical in a data set.
Measures of variability gauge how much difference there is in a set of measures (Tanner Youseef
Morgan, 2013). Descriptive statistics aid in sorting through large amounts of data and making them
understandable. In order to measure central tendency we utilize the mean, median, and mode.
These are used to find the most frequent value (mode), the middle most value (median), and the
average (mean). These would be useful if you wanted to use age as a data point in a marketing
campaign to target the age

In Nothing Gold Can Stay the author is discussing natures first green and how it is golden and

author uses nature to develop the theme of living life to it s fullest by using comparisons,
symbolism, and imagery. The poem Unfolding Bud conveys the theme of enjoying the golden
part of your life with the use of analogy. The author writes, One is not amazed, At a first glance,
By a poem, Which is as tight closed As a tiny bud. This quote shows the author comparing a

Cultural Universals Of Ireland
Cultural universals are behaviors that all cultures must address. A few examples of cultural
universals include food, shelter, religion, storytelling, holidays, language, and gender roles. The
focus of this essay is going to be based on a culture that originated in Ireland and is known as
Irish. Ireland is an island and, it is located in the North Atlantic Ocean. Ireland is often called the
land of saints and scholars referring to the golden age of monastic learning, or the emerald isle
referring to the green landscape (CultureSociety). The Irish cultural universals that are going to be
the focus of this essay include language, food, holidays, and symbols.
Language is a cultural universal because, it is an important part of our lives. It is a uniquely human
gift, which lets us communicate and differentiates us from primates. But [sic] language is much
more than just a means of communication. It is also an inseparable part of our culture. (Brophy).

feelings, and needs.

Persuasive Essay About Censorship
For everything that needs to be said there are always these things that never should be (Witherbee).
This statement has rung true for many generations and for many reasons. Censorship helps solve
this problem within T.V. shows, art, media, internet, and advertisements. In the world today people
are easily offended and some people use information to their advantage. Despite what some people
might believe, there are people in America that can use uncensored information to hinder the
productivity of the country to benefit themselves or another country. Censorshipis necessary to
protect different groups and people. However, some things are unnecessarily censored such as
books. Books are the best educator because authors usually have something more to say than the
words on the page say. There are certain groups such as the Parents Against Bad Books in
Schools who only see the words and meanings that are on the page (Parents Against Bad Books
in Schools). For example, the book Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was banned from certain
schools because it said the word nigger in it (Witherbee). If the reader would have read the book s
entirety one would have discovered the anti slavery tone the book possesses. Books teach lessons
and they show readers that problems either need to be fixed or one needs to come up with a better
solution. Books can be a great way to introduce children to real world situations without putting
them in stressful or unstable situations.

The Alchemist Reflection Essay
I was taught to strive not because there were any guarantees of success, but because the act of
striving is itself the only way to keep faith with life. This is a quote said by Madeline Albright, an
American politician and diplomat. What Madeleine Albright means is that when you strive, you are
not only have a chance of success, but you are giving faith and other good qualities to your
surroundings. This is a lesson that Santiago learns throughout his whole journey. In the novel, The
Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, When we strive to become better, everything around
us becomes better, too. First, Santiago arrives at a crystal shop and works there to earn back
money he had lost. Next, while Santiago is walking, he a has a vision of a terrible war. Finally,
Santiago strives to turn himself into the wind.
First, when Santiago first arrives at the crystal shop, he spends one year working hard to earn
back his lost money. For instance, as Santiago is finishing his first year at the shop, the crystal
merchant gives his thanks to Santiago: I am proud of you he said. You brought me a new feeling
to my crystal shop (63). As Santiago continuously works for one year, he is able to earn back his
lost money as well as improve the merchant s shop, providing easier living for the merchant and the
customers. Santiago provides the merchant with an on going line of customers and a great profit.
To add on, the customers are able to feel the luxuries that are bought with the crystal glasses. But,
most importantly, Santiago is able to learn some very important life lessons that help him
throughout the rest of his journey. Ultimately, as Santiago strives to earn back his stolen money, he
is not only improving his life, but he is a also improving the lives of the merchant and customers.
Nest, while Santiago is taking a stroll, he sees two hawks violently flashing at each other, giving
him a vivid vision of a gruesome war at the oasis. For example, as Santiago shares his vision with
the chieftains, they decide to give Santiago a chance: Tomorrow, we are going to break the
agreement that says no one at the oasis can carry arms. Throughout the entire day we will be on the
lookout for our enemies (111).

The Hardest Job That I Have Ever Had Changed My Life
The hardest job that I have ever had in my life that required a lot of my time and effort, is raising

favorite thing to say to me was it s a twin thing they will grow out of it. This was the beginning of

finding out what was wrong with my sons? Why are they behaving in this manner? I was
relentless in finding out and I didn t stop until I received all the right answers. I finally started

Faulty Hill Formation Research Paper
At the intersection of Neva Road and U.S. 36 we examined three different members, the Smoky
Hill, Fort Hayes, and Codell, which belong to two different formations, Niobrara and Benton. The
Smoky Hill and Fort Hayes belong to the Niobrara formation while Codell belongs to the Benton
Formation. In the Niobrara s Smoky Hill and Benton, Inoceramid clam (giant clam) fossils were
found. These three formations are of Late Cretaceous.
The Smoky Hill Member is mainly a calcareous mudstone, a rock outcrop that looks and behaves
mostly like mudstone, but does have some characteristics of a limestone, like fizzing. The Smoky
Hill is the youngest of the members. It is fine grained, dark to light gray, mudstone which breaks in
rectangular like shapes. Mudstones are deposited in low energy environments, like ocean floor,
deltas, or lakes.
The Fort Hayes is in the middle of the two formations, and it is mainly made up of ... Show more

This sandstone is a dark ish gray brown, medium to fine grained sandstone. This sandstone was
the most hidden of all all the members, making it seem more easily erodible. Sandstones are
usually deposited at a higher energy because as the energy level lowers the force can not longer
hold the heavier particle. So, not only is the Codell member the oldest, but it had the most energy.
Sandstone can be deposited at the beach, the shore of a lake, deltas or deserts.
The Inoceramid clams found in the Niobrara formations leads to the assumption that the mudstone
and limestone were deposited at the sea floor. Clams today are mostly found in the deep burrows
of mud, and with the principle of uniformitarianism you can deduce that those clams were also
most likely living on the sea floor. The clams living at the sea floor would be supported by the fact
that the clam fossils were found in mudstone and limestone because mudstone is usually in lower
energy environments like the sea

Importance of Accountability
PV2 Starling, LaTonya Importance of Accountability The importance of accountability and
communication in the Military is so each and every personal is all on the same page. Also so our
organization runs smooth. Communication is the heart of what makes the United States Army
what it is today. Without communication vital information would not be passed down from the
Chief of Command to a chain of Non Commissioned Officers to the soldiers. Not to mention,
innocent lives would be in jeopardy, missions would be misconstrued, and simple information
from NCO to soldier would be conflicted. The smallest amount of information is always
imperative. For example, if a soldier goes out over the weekend and doesn t inform anyone of he or

If you always have a hundred percent accountability you will never have any problems like
wondering where someone is or like wondering why something missing. If you ever have a
problem like that then it is because you are not doing a very good job at keeping track of
anything. If someone like that were to be in charge of a large group of people and not know if
someone could be missing is not a good way to be leader. That s why being disciplined on it
early in your career is important. I understand. One example of being responsible would be to
remember to properly PMCS you re vehicle prior to taking it on mission. The responsible thing
to do would be to go through every aspect of the PMCS and not taking any shortcuts. If your
vehicle were to fail on you while you were outside the wire you could potentially endanger
everyone s lives on the entire convoy. As said before responsibility must be used in every part of
being a Soldier in the U.S. Army, not just PMCSing a vehicle, responsibility falls under just
about every topic such as, waking up with enough time to prepare for your first formation, or
mission, being in the proper uniform, and having all of the inspect able items without having to be
reminded or helped in any way. Accountability is: the obligation imposed by law or lawful order
or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or
funds. There many reasons why

For The Union Dead
What Killed the Union: For The Union Dead Analysis
Much of the human race strives to escape the sands of time as future generations will forge their
own paths and forget the great work of their relentless ancestors. No one wants to be forgotten, and
if they are, rarely ever are their works uncovered. However, when it happens, it seems as though the
whole world stops for a moment and appreciates what they have completed their work inspires the
work of future generations. As it turns out, maybe they were not forgotten after all.
Overtime, Boston s monuments have become run down and forgotten, which ultimately led Robert
Lowell to write For The Union Dead. Lowell uses strong diction, imagery, and euphemism to
display what war does to people and how great war heroes can be forgotten in the modern world
amongst the great accomplishments of the current century.
Robert Lowell was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He often implements themes of family, the past,
and the present into his poems. In his early years, he had a liking to bullying and violence towards
other children. Later on, Lowell fell into depression while attending Harvard. His psychiatrist
recommend that he take a break from the schooling. He was eventually diagnosed as a manic ...

Shaw was an officer in the Civil War who led the 54th regiment. This was the first regiment of
African American men (Hill 7:73). These men lost their lives for a country that at the time did
not see them as social equivalents, though Shaw strived to see them as such. Because of this,
Shaw earned a memorial in the heart of Boston for all to see. The memorial portrays Shaw on
horseback as his men wielding bayonet equipped rifles follow him into battle. In addition, an angel
is depicted watching guard over the soldiers as they prepare to wage war.

  • 2. Using Radio Transmission to Promote Development Projects In this chapter, a brief review of the relevant research literature will be presented to generate a theoretical outline of this proposed research. This theoretical outline will guide the research strategy. Fraser Estrada (2002) commented that since late 1970s, the importance of community participation at all stages of a development initiative has been commonly acknowledged. Parvalla (2003) defined (as cited in Ballur, 2012) community as a territorially bound group with some commonality of interest (p, 92) who are usually sharing a common language for daily communication with the same cultural heritage. It is clear from this discussion that for developing any community, radio, in particular community radio can be a supportive tool to cover wide range of population. In addition, it has a great influencing power to motivate the marginalised group of people According to the Community Radio Installation, Broadcast and Operation Policy (2008) by Ministry of Information of People s Republic of Bangladesh, in the guidelines part, it stated that Community radio is, in effect, a form of public service broadcasting, which serves a community rather than the whole nation. Community radio is an own resource of a community, which will reflect the outlook and attitude, norms and culture and thought and ideology of the very community people (p, 1). The Sinclairs spends entire summers on their private island, drinking expensive wine and eating posh food. • 9. The Increment of the Proportion of Nurses with a... Recommendations The fourth recommendation suggests the increment of the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020. In this way, it is fundamental to note that such an increase is likely to impact extensively on the performance of nurses and the general efficiency of the nursing profession. An increase of such nurses to 80% would certainly mean that the care and duty normally provided by the nurses will certainly improve. Considering that most nurses only hold diploma certificates as the basis for their service, an increase in degrees will mean that more nurses will have learnt more about the nursing profession. In this regard, their performance would be expected to increase drastically. In the same way, the government will certainly be forced to chuck out more money in paying the nurses since the increase in the level of qualifications for the nurses would have to be accompanied by an increase in their salaries and wages. On the other hand, it is presumed that such an increase in the number of nurses with degrees might negatively affect the nursing profession in case the nurses are not sufficiently paid. Most of them would thereby opt to offer their services in the private sector in case the government is unwilling to remunerate them effectively. When more nurses get the degrees, they will operate with a lot of commitment and dedication owing to the increase in their salaries and wages. • 11. Good Moral Character In Silas Marner I believe that the development of good moral character is defined by both the choices that we make, and the experiences that we endure because of those choices. For example, If one chooses to act out of vice, then he can expect to experience a life that is not surprisingly miserable, because he is choosing to act out of pure self interest. On a similar level the same is true for virtue, although it would be the opposite seeing as how virtue is based out of kindness and in doing what is morally right. Sometimes, the choices that we make can even lead to an unexpected twist of events, where a person who might be stuck on vice ends up choosing to take a path that is ultimately virtuous. In the same way, the film Silas Marner reflects this idea when it comes to three of the films main characters. Throughout the film, each of these characters must work through a collection of their own choices and experiences, and by the end of the film we get a better sense of whether or not their moral character has developed, and if so in what ways. Lets begin with looking at the first of these characters, Dunstan Cass. Dunstan Cass, younger brother of Godfrey Cass, is the very epitome of what it is like to live a life lead by vice. The only concerns that he has are those of his own self interest, and he lacks any sense of moral virtue whatsoever. He is arrogant, selfish, completely vile, and has an impeccable talent for lying and being dishonest. In the words of Plutarch, Any admixture of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction: This literature review will make use of four pieces of academic work to discuss how the concept of culture can intrinsically affect leadership. The literature finds that the link between culture and leadership is an important, yet complicated relationship. I will begin by discussing and defining the central concepts of culture and leadership. I will then explain and analyse the significance of culture upon leadership. Finally I will review Hofstede s cultural framework to assess its significance and relevance to the topic at hand. Culture: To begin, culture is a phenomenon that carries multiple definitions. Indeed, it is not inaccurate to say that cultural sensitivity is the most important trait for leaders to have, given the globalisation of our modern world (Wharton University, 1999). The idea of culture being the central idealism as to why leaders act the way they do in certain environments is linked to Contingency Theory. This theory stipulates that a leader needs to be able to adapt to the context they face (King and Lawley, 2013). Hofstede s framework Geert Hofstede believed that national cultures were potentially homogenous with organisational cultures, and that national cultures could be quantitatively identified and compared (King and Lawley, 2013). Hofstede over a four year period carried out 116,000 morale surveys, from 72 countries, using IBM subsidiaries (Kirkman, Lowe and Gibson, 2006) and from his findings derived a four fold dimensional framework for measuring national cultures. His first dimension, Power Distance, is the extent to which people within a nation are accepting of the unequal distribution of power within institutions and organisations (Hofstede, 1980). This dimension also helps to explain the way in which leaders and subordinates interact and under what pretences (King and Lawley, 2013). Meat is the unconditioned stimulus because at the sight of the meat the dogs begin to salivate (Feldman, 2010). The dog s response to the meat educes salivation and is known as the unconditioned response (UCR). An unconditioned response is defined as a reflexive and natural response that is not connected to prior learning. Unconditioned responses always occur in the presence of the unconditioned stimulus (Feldman, 2010). While conditioning the dogs, Pavlov would ring a bell right before the presentation of meat. Eventually, the dogs would associate the ringing of the bell with the meat. Therefore, the dogs would begin to salivate at the sound of the bell. At this point, Pavlov could state that he had classically conditioned his dogs. The bell which was a prior neutral stimulus had now become the conditioned stimulus (CS) that brought forth the conditioned response (CR) of salivation (Feldman, 2010). Moreover, we have to ask what would happen if these poor dogs were never again received food upon the ringing of the bell. This would lead to extinction. Extinction occurs when a prior conditioned response decreases in frequency and eventually disappears (Feldman, 2010). If a work is created to sell an ideal that may not benefit the author immediately, it often has a larger impact on society, and it becomes a commodity. However, if the work brings in any monetary value or help to its author, it is no longer a commoditybecause it profited its creator. Because this can vary due to the use of the text by others, literature can become a commodity to different degrees thanks to the interpretation of the work by their audience. According to Sally, Logan had one of her tantrums that afternoon. Sally asked Logan if she needed to scream, and Logan said yes. She brought her to the basement and put her in a highchair. She left her there for an hour, periodically checking on her. When she came back to check after starting dinner, she found Logan on the floor, motionless, and not breathing. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. That night, the police came to interview. Sally says nothing was restraining Logan and she must ve fallen and hit her head. After a search of the house, the police found evidence that raised doubts. In a second search, detectives found 40 feet of duct tape with hair on it. Although major improvements have been made in the strife for equality, this continues to be a man s world. In the short stories The Chrysanthemums and A Rose for Emily, as well as in the drama A Doll s House, the protagonists are all frustrated women who are unfulfilled with their subservient lives. Partly imposed upon them by their setting s historical and societal norms, they choose to either do something about it or continue to internalize their dissatisfaction. According to Elizabeth Hardwick, Nora is intrinsically independent and free spirited from the very beginning of the play (294). Unni LangГҐs also wrote an essay on Ibsen s drama and about Nora s specific motives. He wrote, When she performs acts that are generally reserved for men, or withdraws from practices associated with women, she shows the gender attribution of these acts to be social constructions and thereby contests their reified status (157). So, LangГҐs claims that Nora s rebellion and discontent began long before she literally walked out on Trovald, her husband. The events that eventually unfolded at the end of the play and that lead her to finally leave her husband were just those last straws that broke the camel s back. Before her final stage exit, Ibsen has Nora say, For eight years I have been patiently waiting, enforcing this idea of long lived frustration (3.1107). Again, this idea of the rebellious woman at the end of the nineteenth century was not only reserved to post Civil War America as was the case with Emily Grierson. Nora Helmer and her insurgence, against all ethical and moral norms of society at the time, did not go unnoticed in Northern Europe. After at least twenty more BEEP s, I decided to put forth a little more effort than usual and rolled over so I could actually see what I was doing. To my dismay, I miscalculated my distance from the edge and my idea did not go as planned. To say the least, I immediately began considering carpeting the bedroom floor. I sleepily made my way to the kitchen, using precautionary methods to avoid any mirrors this early in the morning. The moment I stepped through the door I was met with the best surprise a girl could have. Waffles! I said to my suddenly wide awake self. I could hear my mothers laughter at my reaction from the next room over. There s nothing funny about hunger, Mummy! I shouted in response. There is when we re talking about your bottomless pit of a stomach, she said as she made her way back into the kitchen to join me for breakfast. As I piled my plate four syrup soaked waffles high, she only picked one to pair with her sugar free syrup. She always was unnecessarily concerned about her weight. We shortly sat with only the sound of our forks against our plates, but that was short lived. So what s the plan for today? I asked her. The Design Of The Hardware The selection of the hardware is a very critical part of the hardware implementation of the project; the selector must know the pros and cons on the design of each component that is being used. The selection can lead to the failure or success of the project. Therefore, special attention is required to the selection process and it was discussed with the specialist of the electrical and mechanical engineering fields to be on safe side. The main components of the system that are used in this project are as follows: 1.Motor 2.Microcontroller 3.LEDs 4.Sensor for Synchronizing 5.Power Supply 4.1 Motor The two major classifications of the motors are AC and DC motors. The function of the motor controller is to convert the DC into AC. Mechanically, these motors have simpler design than the other types of the DC motor as there is no requirement of transferring power to the spinning rotor from the outside of the motor. The position of the rotor is sensed by the control of a Hall Effect sensor or any other such device to optimize torque and regulate speed. Advantages Advantages of the Brushless DC motor are their long life, better efficiency, and high RPM with no maintenance required. Disadvantages The design of the controllers for these types of the motors is a bit more complex and they have relatively higher initial cost. These are the only disadvantages of the Brushless DC motor. 2. Brushed DC motors: The generation of the torque in the brushed DC motors is coming directly from the DC power. The internal commutation and the magnets that are stationary (magnets can be permanent or electromagnet) supply the power to the motor to generate the torque. These motors include carbon brushes to transfer the power to the rotating shaft. Advantages The cost required for a brushed DC motor is relatively low compared to other DC motors. These are highly reliable and have very simpler and basic type to control the motor. Disadvantages The major disadvantages of this type of motor include a shorter life span ... • 32. Why Statistics Are Part Of Everyday Life Statistics are part of everyday life. Whether we know it or not we use them in some way, shape or form during the course of our day. Business and medical professionals, sociologists and scientists alike all utilize statistics in order to determine probabilities of outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to discuss what I have learned about statisticsin during this class covered during the last five weeks. The topics I will cover inform the class are descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, hypothesis development and testing, selection of appropriate statistical tests and evaluating statistical results. The intent is to discuss the application of the elements in analyzing and making decisions about data. Our book states that there are many kinds of descriptive statistics. Calculating measures of central tendency and measures of variability are two we focused on. As their names suggest, measures of central tendency indicate what is most typical in a data set. Measures of variability gauge how much difference there is in a set of measures (Tanner Youseef Morgan, 2013). Descriptive statistics aid in sorting through large amounts of data and making them understandable. In order to measure central tendency we utilize the mean, median, and mode. These are used to find the most frequent value (mode), the middle most value (median), and the average (mean). These would be useful if you wanted to use age as a data point in a marketing campaign to target the age ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This statement has rung true for many generations and for many reasons. Censorship helps solve this problem within T.V. shows, art, media, internet, and advertisements. In the world today people are easily offended and some people use information to their advantage. Despite what some people might believe, there are people in America that can use uncensored information to hinder the productivity of the country to benefit themselves or another country. Books are the best educator because authors usually have something more to say than the words on the page say. There are certain groups such as the Parents Against Bad Books in Schools who only see the words and meanings that are on the page (Parents Against Bad Books in Schools). For example, the book Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was banned from certain schools because it said the word nigger in it (Witherbee). If the reader would have read the book s entirety one would have discovered the anti slavery tone the book possesses. This is a quote said by Madeline Albright, an American politician and diplomat. This is a lesson that Santiago learns throughout his whole journey. First, Santiago arrives at a crystal shop and works there to earn back money he had lost. Next, while Santiago is walking, he a has a vision of a terrible war. Finally, Santiago strives to turn himself into the wind. First, when Santiago first arrives at the crystal shop, he spends one year working hard to earn back his lost money. As Santiago continuously works for one year, he is able to earn back his lost money as well as improve the merchant s shop, providing easier living for the merchant and the customers. Santiago provides the merchant with an on going line of customers and a great profit. To add on, the customers are able to feel the luxuries that are bought with the crystal glasses. But, most importantly, Santiago is able to learn some very important life lessons that help him throughout the rest of his journey. Ultimately, as Santiago strives to earn back his stolen money, he is not only improving his life, but he is a also improving the lives of the merchant and customers.
