1. Best Essays Uk
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Best Essays UK" can be a challenging endeavor, as it
requires a comprehensive understanding of the diverse landscape of UK literature and the ability
to critically evaluate and compare various works. The task demands not only an in-depth
knowledge of prominent authors and their contributions but also an awareness of the historical
and cultural contexts that have shaped British literature.
To create a compelling essay, one must navigate through a plethora of literary genres, from
classic literature to contemporary works, and highlight the distinctive features that make certain
essays stand out as exemplary. Additionally, exploring the evolution of writing styles, themes,
and perspectives over time is essential for a nuanced analysis.
The complexity of the topic also lies in the subjective nature of determining what constitutes the
"best" essays. Different readers may have varied opinions on the matter, influenced by personal
preferences, cultural backgrounds, and academic perspectives. Therefore, constructing a well-
argued and balanced essay involves presenting a range of viewpoints and justifying the criteria
used for evaluating excellence in essays.
Furthermore, the essay should go beyond mere analysis and delve into the socio-political
influences on UK literature, examining how historical events, cultural shifts, and societal changes
have shaped the writing landscape. This requires extensive research and the ability to connect
literature with broader contextual factors.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Best Essays UK" demands not only a deep appreciation for
the rich tapestry of British literature but also the analytical skills to critically assess and articulate
what makes certain essays stand out. It is a task that requires dedication, research, and a nuanced
understanding of both the literary works and the historical and cultural context in which they
were produced.

2. William Faulkner s The Bear
After the Civil War, the American Southerners had a strong trauma that could not be
forgotten. Considering that William Faulkner was also one of these Southerners,
approaching to his texts through a psychoanalytic lens would be a meaningful
work. In fact, Faulkner is one of the rare writers who faced Southern racial taboo :
the miscegenation. In addition, a Southern Renaissance that what Faulkner does
with the South through his novels are very similar with what Freud did with the
European civilization after the World War I in his work about psychoanalytic
mourning (Lee 229). Actually, Faulkner went through the World War I just like
Freud did and he is one of the Lost Generations : a group of writers who were
strongly affected by the inhumanity of war. Thus, this essay will focus on analyzing
Faulkner s The Bear in psychoanalytical view. In The Bear, the wildernessis one of
the significant motifs. Issac and Faulkner saw the wilderness as gigantic, chaotic,
and fearful. It gets over the cultural differentiation of human and separation, which
are characteristics of the Symbolic Order of Lacan s theories (Dobie 71). In other
words, the chaotic wilderness alludes to the Real Order, which remains foreclosed
form the analytic experience (Dobie 70 71). Moreover, the wilderness is considered
as primitive chaos and part of semiotic. Actually, a description of Isaac s first entrance
into the wilderness shows how the passage conveys somewhat sexual impression.

3. A Prayer For Owen Meany Essay
During my junior year of high school, I read A Prayer for Owen Meany by John
Irving. Before then I had enjoyed reading, but it had never been more to me than a
source of entertainment, similar to watching TV. However, the ingenious,
miniscule symbols and nuances about the book forever changed the way I look at
literature. Throughout the book, Irving subtly compares Owen Meany (a tiny,
strange boy with an extremely high voice) to Jesus. At one point, he plays Jesus in
a Christmas pageant. His parents even believe (and try to convince him) that he
was a virgin birth, much like Jesus was according to the Bible. More subtly, his
friend John Wheelwright frequently uses the exclamation Jesus! but only when he
is talking to Owen, almost as though he is addressing him. Owen also plays the
Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come in a play, although he is just referred to as the
Ghost of the Future. Later on he has a vision of his own date of death. There are
countless other important and significant symbols in the book as well, ranging from
an armadillo to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until I read Fight Club, most books had a very similar feel to read, so I never
understood why different people loved certain authors over others. However,
Palahniuk s writing was so distinctive and new to me that it perfectly illustrated the
significance of the author of a book. Fight Club is fast moving, disjointed, and
confusing. The text is seemingly randomly punctuated with obscure comments such
as I am Jack s complete lack of surprise. This method of writing mimics the frantic
sense of confusion that the reader endures before finally finding out that the narrator
and Tyler Durden are the same person. This way of writing, much like a well written
movie music score, sets the scene and mood for the entire novel in a way that is
impossible to do with just descriptions and simple
4. The Law Of Admissions Standards
It s impossible to prophesy on what types of cases will arise. And it s doubtful that
anyone could have predicted the issues that would come with university admissions
standards. Because lets be honest, no school wants to be viewed as the dunderhead
who rejected the next Shakespeare or Aristotle. Many factors can play a role: GPA,
SAT scores, extracurricular activities, and other academically related aspects, are
always going to be taken into consideration. But there s one other factor it s the one
hairy, delicate topic that people tiptoe around and that s the race factor. Everyone
cringes when the word race begins floating around.
So, the Supreme Court gave universities a blueprint for creating admissions
standards: Grutter v Bollinger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But without a doubt, universities have a rational basis for excluding some students
while rejecting others. A university does not have the means to accept every single
person that applies; it s just not feasible. Therefore, they can create guidelines for
granting a student admission. For example, examining GPA, standardized test scores,
organizational involvement, community service hours, and the like, are ways that
universities can accept or deny students. Not only is this rational, but it s also
necessary to ensure a universities success.
On the other hand, strict scrutiny is a far more nitpicky. If a university implements
standards that use race as a factor, then it calls for for the most exacting judicial
scrutiny (Bakke, 438 U.S. 265 (1978). Grutter and Fisher dealt with this precise
question: Does using race as a factor in university admissions violate the Equal
Protection Clause? In exact situations, it does not. If the admissions provisions are of
the narrowly tailoring construct, it is permissible. Now let us turn to examining the
nuances of Grutter and Fisher.
Beneath the watchful eye of strict scrutiny, the burden lies on the state, or in this case
the university, to prove they have a compelling interest in having racial
classifications. For universities, the compelling interest is cultivating a diverse
student environment. And according to Chief

Assess the main reasons for Australia s involvement in the Vietnam War.
After gaining independence from France in 1954, by the leadership of Ho Chin
Min, Vietnam was posed with the task of creating a political faction. Due to the
country s diverse political views Vietnam was temporally split in two (at the 17th
parallel). The north side was lead by Ho Chi Minh, a popular leader allied with
communist China. Having freed the people of Vietnamfrom French occupation, many
Vietminh supported his every step. In the south the people were led by America who
controlled the region through puppet politicians such as Ngo Dinh Diem. South
Vietnam was republic based and sought to diminish communism and prevent Soviet
Russia any political support. But why did Australia, a country at first glance not
having any need to get involved in the Vietnam conflict do such thing? After
analysing many sources and content Australia s participation in the Vietnam War was
inevitable. I have used a number of sources including extracts from PM Menzies
various speeches (source1) and recorded statements, credited American government
websites dedicated to history and letters discussing Australia s critical role in the
Vietnam War (source 3). The sources reveal Australia s main reasons for getting
involved in the Vietnam War, which include The Domino theory, the SEATO treaty,
the containment policy, Australia s tactical Forward Defence system, various
alliances and commitments with United States of
6. Undermines Religion In The Golden CompassBy Philip
Pullman
The Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman, has been a controversial book that has been
criticized and even banned by many religious groups such as the Catholic Church and
religious right groups. Pullman undermines religion in The Golden Compass through
his characters beliefs and actions which demonstrate that the church is controlled by
people who are corrupt and will do anything to maintain power including lying,
kidnapping, inhumane experimentation, and even murder. The main character, Lyra,
is an eleven year old orphan girl who lives at Jordan College in an alternate universe
from ours. Here, people have daemons or animals always with them that represent the
true nature of their humans. Children s daemons can change shape often, but after
puberty, adult daemons are fixed and represent their owners souls. Lyra is an
innocent, tomboyish girl who constantly gets into mischief with her daemon, Pan,
and her friends. She is oblivious to the good and bad going on around her until her
Uncle, Lord Asriel, arrives and shows her evidence of the discovery of Dust in the
far North which represents original sin. From then on, Lyra is exposed to the evil
going on in her world. Children are disappearing around her. They are being
kidnapped by Gobblers, and she later learns that the children are being severed from
their daemons through inhumane experiments by the church to prevent them from
exercising free will and sinning. She thinks of this cutting as the most horrible thing,

The United State Declaration of Independance was signed for ВЁLife, Liberty, and

same from one person to another. Some people wants to freedom, some people
wants money, some people wants fame, and some people want a lot of different
things. Whatever that dream is, not everyone have the same chance and opportunity
at pursuing it because of poverty. Poverty comes from inequality in an abundance
wealth and education absence. If not impossible, it is tremendously tough for those
in poverty to be at the level of others and have the same probability of succeeding.

9. Disadvantages Of Capitalism
A concept is a thought or idea that is conceived and sometimes put into action. The
concept of capitalism is a very important concept to the United States and many other
countries whose citizens value freedom and independency. Capitalism has many
different aspects to it. First, capitalism is a social system. The trade and industry of a
capitalist country is based off of private owners and not the government. Capitalismis
centered around the rights of the individuals. It allows the individual to make his or
her own decisions. Capitalism is usually open to new ideas, new firms, and new
owners. This is why capitalism is favored by so many countries and governments
around the world. Capitalism allows the individuals to be expressive and... Show

An extremely good quality about capitalism is that it brings about economic
freedom. Any individual can purchase whatever goods or services he or she wants,
granted he or she has enough purchasing power, or money, to obtain it. Having
economic freedom allows individuals to purchase and own property. This right to
own property allows many other freedoms. Congregations own churches, which
allows religious freedom. Freedom of the press is protected by newspapers
owning printing presses. Families have financial well being and protection by
owning a home. Properties owned by businesses allow for the production of goods
and services to trade. All these freedoms are very important to a government who
wants the happiness and well being of its people. Economic freedom brings about
political freedom. Without political freedom, the government of a specific area
would have way too much power. If a government is able to own the means of
production and set the prices of goods and services, it leads to a very powerful
state. This essentially creates a large bureaucracy where the government makes many
decisions. This leads to less freedom of the individual. Political freedom is necessary
because it brings individuals rights such as the right to vote, which allows individuals
to decide who their representatives or rulers should be. Having representatives allow
the thoughts and ideas of the majority
10. The Toothpaste Factory Got The Top People
Dedication To my parents, who gave me life and taught me the meaning of it. Both
by accident. Introduction Once upon a time, a toothpaste factory had a problem.
They sometimes shipped empty boxes without the tube inside. This was caused by
the way the production line was set up, and people with experience in designing
production lines will tell you how difficult it is to have everything happen with
timings so precise that every single unit coming out of it is perfect 100% of the
time. Small variations in the environment (which can t be controlled in a cost
effective fashion) mean you must have quality assurance checks smartly distributed
across the line so customers all the way down to the supermarket don t get angry
and buy another product instead. Understanding how important that was, the CEO
of the toothpaste factory got the top people in the company together and they
decided to start a new project in which they would hire an external engineering
company to solve their empty boxes problem since their engineering department
was already too stretched to take on any extra effort. The project followed the usual
process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP and third parties selected. Six
months (and $8 million) later, they had a fantastic solution on time, on budget, high
quality and everyone in the project had a great time. They solved the problem by
using high tech precision scales that would sound a bell and flash lights whenever a
toothpaste box would weigh less
11. Human Nature Vs. Moral Logic Essay
With numerous wars, murders, and rapes it s normal to think that humans tend
towards disorder. Even at a young age, humans are selfish and think egocentrically.
If they are lucky, they grow up to think abstractly, only to use those thoughts to
outsmart another human. However, human nature is fundamentally good: if one
was to strip a human of their social responsibilities and influences, they would
realize that a human is simple minded and morally good. They openly donate their
time and resources to care for their loved ones. It s only when societal beliefs
interfere with moral logic does one not care for their family members, justifying
their reasoning with something like, I don t have enough time to get my mom her
medication. I have to go to work. To Zhu Xi, humans contain a basic understanding
of the principles or patterns of human nature. In that, they possess ethical/moral
principles that are naturally ingrained in them. Humans are morally good since
they contain the knowledge of what is right or wrong. For example, a human
would shy away from killing a person, since it s wrong to kill, and they would give
their money to a poor man on the street, since that would be the right thing to do.
Zhu Xi sees these basic ethical principles as li. Li is the basis of human nature, as it
structures reality. It is the moral pattern, li, that influences our actions and thoughts,
which helps build our character. Qi is the basic building block of the world: the
physical shape and
12. Colorado River Pollution
Pollution in the Colorado River

The Colorado River supplies water to most of the southwestern United States and
despite this fact, pollution levels are continually rising and in some cases above
acceptable limits. The Colorado River supplies and runs through five states and
during some parts of the year to the Mexican border. During the rivers journey various
types of pollutants come into contact to with it degrading the water quality
downstream. The river water benefits humans in multiple ways the first obvious
answer is by drinking it. Farming and other agricultural uses demand 60% and

In 2005, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) formed the
Clean Colorado River Alliance (The Alliance) under a recommendation from then
Governor Janet Napolitano. The Alliance s first task was to develop recommendations
for dealing with current water problems in the Colorado River. Next, address the
water quality of the river for human sustainability now and into the future. Lastly
develop an action plan for dealing with the pollution issues of the river; The Alliance
delivered the final report to Governor Napolitano in December 2005.
The preliminary report outlined a partnership plan modeled after the Chesapeake Bay
Program. Although major differences exist between the Colorado River cleanup
project and the Chesapeake Bay reclaim project, the fundamental principles of a
successful program are similar. The final report delivered to Governor Napolitano is a
detailed look into the major pollutants contained in the river system. The Alliance
detail seven pollutants devoting a chapter to each one, including an action plan for
dealing with the pollutant individually. The six pollutants covered are nutrients,
metals, endocrine disrupting compounds, perchlorate, bacteria and pathogens, salinity
/total dissolved solids, and sediments and suspended solids.
The Alliance s report gives a comprehensive action plan for reducing the amount of
pollution in and river and improving overall water

I believe their future will depend on meeting consumer preferences, revisions in
regulations, and international business. The energy drink industry is subject to
changing consumer tastes that may negatively affect Monster if they do not meet
demand. Increases in consumer awareness of the dangers of energy consumption will
continue to represent a challenge. Legislation has already been proposed to restrict
the sale of energy drinks, limit caffeine content in beverages, impose additional
taxes, limit product sizes, and impose age restrictions for the sale of energy drinks
(Monster Beverage Corporation, 2015). Monster Energy will continue to broaden
their line with an increased selection of organic, diet, light, and low calorie drinks.
Opportunities in the international market also exist for Monster Energy. Red Bull
dominates the international market, but I expect Monster to present a challenge due
to their recent partnership with Coca Cola. This partnership will allow them to
utilize Coca Cola s extensive distribution network. Coca Cola transferred their NOS
and Full Throttle energy drink brands to Monster Energy also, so now the company
will have a greater share of the market. Although Red Bull is the leader in the energy
drink market, Monster has the greatest drive and consumer following. I think they
will be the number one selling energy

Compiling popularity charts and the related advertising is also opened up as the
medium switches from physical CDs and tapes distributed and sold via established

enough, the industry is also challenged from another source the sharing of music
between different people connected via the Internet. Although technically illegal this
practice of sharing between people s record collections has always taken place but not
on the scale which the Internet threatens to facilitate. Much of the established music
industry is concerned with legal issues how to protect copyright and how to ensure
that royalties are paid in the right proportions to those who participate in production
and distribution. But when people can share music in MP3 format and distribute it
globally, the potential for policing the system and collecting royalties becomes
extremely difficult to sustain It has been made much more so by another

Cleansing brings about purity and this is an important aspect of wabi cha, which is
the name given to the tea ceremony by the Japanese (Yamashita, 11). Along with
cleansing themselves through the tea ritual the Japanese people use daily bathing to
remain clean both physically and mentally.
The bath was important to the Japanese culture and every night a Japanese family
would take turns soaking in their bath in order of seniority to relax after the
stresses of the busy day (Wynn, 61). This relaxing in the warm bath after a long day
helps to cleanse them both mentally by refreshing their mind and cleansing their
soul, and physically by soaking in the soap that they placed in the water.
Anthropologist, Scott Clark, believed that bathing in Japan and being able to
comprehend the reason you are taking the bath is participating in something that is
unique to the Japanese culture (Wynn, 62). This is because cleansing the body in
Japanese society means much more than just removing the dirt from the outside of
their body but it also symbolizes a deeper cleaning that reaches to the soul. This is
the part that makes cleanliness so important to the Japanese. Japan is unique from
other cultures because of its relationship among people being built on the act of
immersing themselves in water (Wynn, 61). Public baths were popular in early Japan
but as the focus on cleanliness became more important to their society, private baths
became more popular. Families began to have a bath

To some, wonder woman is regarded as a feminist icon. However, O Reilly does not
believe so because of the submissive themes that her creator included in the comics.
Though Wonder Woman is one of the most popular female superheroes who seemed
to be equal to her male counterparts, she had to demonstrate if she was worthy
enough to become a superhero through set trials. Wonder Woman was not born into
her title; she had to earn it unlike all the male superheroes that came before and
after her. Born Princess Diana from the Amazon, she had to compete in a series of
extremely difficult physical trials and once she proved her worth in a final life or
death challenge, the title of Wonder Woman was bestowed upon her. O Reilly gives
multiple examples in her article about the differences male and female superheroes
have. For instance, the popular Superman comics came out a few years earlier. Clark
Kent s choice to fight crime was never questioned or challenged. He did not have to

There is also a trend towards whole bean specialty coffee. During the 1990 s, the
ground coffee industry was stagnant; slowly declining sales. On the other hand, the
whole bean market has grown by 8% annually since 1990. A survey suggests that
36% of coffee drinkers purchased whole bean coffee because they believed that
roasting at home would give a fresher, better taste.
Another factor decreasing our market share is the international market. Although
we are increasing in every market domestically, our international market has greatly
decreased by 26.6% during 2001 to 2002. Our decrease is equal to a full year
percentage of sales of 2001 2002 in Southern New England. (MA, CT, RI).
Green Mountain also faces several problems because it is simply a wholesaler.
Starbucks coffee is a familiar name to customers with a reputation, which precedes
its name. Green Mountain simply does not because of our limitations of being a
wholesaler. Green Mountain made a decision to close all their locations because of
flat sales and a lease problem. The retail locations are important because they are a
vehicle for consumers to sample Green Mountain coffee. Starbucks retail locations
help customers familiarize with its products.

19. Poem And William Carlos William s Order In The Streets
In the poem Poem the syntax is very interesting because of how each line is
organized. The way the lines are organized gives an image of what the poem is
trying to show us. The way the poem is laid out may leave some think it is
awkward, but the way it is organized actually makes it more rhythmatic than it
would just read out in 1 or 2 lines. When reading the poem I picture the cat climbing
/walking with pauses every time the line ends. For example in lines 5 7, first the
right (Williams 5) pause as the cat steps, forefoot/carefully (Williams 6 7) you can
picture the cat going slowly and carefully. In Order in the Streets, Donald Justice uses
similar syntaxstructure to William Carlos William s Poem . The syntax is similar
because both poems use how the lines are organized as a way to make the poem
more interesting. In Order in the Streets , the syntax help shape a picture of what
the author is trying to portray. For example in lines 3 5, Jeep rushes (Justice 3) you
can picture a jeep driving fast, to the scene (Justice 4) you slowly get a sense of
the setting, of riot (Justice 5). By the end of these lines you can picture a jeep

#4In Emily Dickinson s poem Some keep the sabbath going to Church , you can
clearly see her opinion of religion and God. It seems like Dickinson likes the idea
of religion, she just prefers to practice outside of the Church. For example in lines
2 4 following the central metaphor, she says I keep it, staying at Home /With a
Bobolink for a Chorister /And an orchard, for a Dome (Dickinson 2 4). In these
lines she seems to find going out into nature to be more beneficial than a church.
When Dickinson says With a Bobolink for a Chorister , you can see she prefers the
sound of birds over the sound of singing from a member of the choir. And when she
says And an Orchard, for a Dome , it is clear that she prefers looking up and seeing
trees rather than a dome of a chapel. In conclusion, I believe that Dickinson s views
on religion is positive, but she prefers to practice it out in nature.

After the creature tells his tale to Victor, Brooks says that spoken verbal

the purpose of that he can be in love with, and would get love in return.( Brooks
21. Rousseau Contributions
Jean Jacques Rousseau was a Swiss born French Enlightenment thinker most
famous for the 1762, The Social Contract. The Social Contract is Rousseau s most
valued work due to its ties within the French Revolution. Born in Geneva in 1712,
Rousseau was shaped by the death of his mother and loss of his father at an early
age. Sent to live with the Baroness de Warens, he gained a formal education that
enabled him to write his later famous works. He loathed the Baroness values even
when they eventually became lovers, but growing up in her educational
environment allowed Rousseau to be exposed to different opinions that would
eventually shape his Enlightened ideas, (Historyguide.org, www.historyguide.org
/europe/rousseau.html.). This also exposed Rousseau to different religious ideas
eventually forming his views that the church was corrupt, (Nardo, Don. The
Onrush of Modern Ideas. The French Revolution, Cengage Learning, 2008, pp. 21
21.) Then in 1741, Rousseau fled to Paris where he wrote, Les Muses Galantes.
This work allowed for Rousseau to meet Voltaire and exchange Enlightenment
ideas. Being exposed to the popular crowd abled Rousseau in 1750 to write, A
Discourse on the Sciences and the Arts based off of a prison he visited holding
Denis Diderot. Diderot was one of the people Rousseau was able to meet due to
Les Muses galantes, it was there Rousseau got the inspiration to form an opinion on
the following essay question, Have arts and sciences improved or corrupted the
morals of mankind? ( Historyguide.org, www.historyguide.org/europe
/rousseau.html.). Rousseau believed the arts and sciences had not corrupted man
just simply decreased their freedoms. Being around Diderot in prison abled
Rousseau to write, Discourse on the Origin of Inequality which stressed his ideals of
man s natural goodness and the corruption of regularized life, which connects back
to Rousseau s visit to Diderot in an institutionalized prison. These events and works
all lead up to Rousseau s most famous and popular work, The Social Contract.
Published in 1762, The Social Contract paved the way for the ideas of the French
Revolution. The Social Contract really defined Rousseau s opinion on
institutionalism stating, Man

23. Indigenous Ecological Calendars
The purpose of the course is to gain some understanding of Indigenous Australia by
being exposed to Indigenous ways of understanding the world. Therefore, our goal
was to deliver the information to our peers as simple and as clear as possible to
help meet this purpose. My tutorial group discussed the week 5 reading on Australian
Aboriginal peoples seasonal knowledge and its merging with Western science. This
article illustrates the findings on traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and talks
about its contribution to natural resource management (NRM) (Prober, S. M., M. H.
O Connor, and F. J. Walsh, 2011, pg 1).
We split up the article into parts and divided the sections equally so that we each
covered a different main point during the presentation. I spoke about the role of
ecological calendars in traditional ecological knowledge. These calendars help us
identity the crossovers from indigenous ecological knowledge and western findings
or beliefs. Ecological calendars created by Aboriginal people played a role beyond
just organizing biological knowledge they formed a belief system that was relevant to
customary livelihood, culture, and spirituality. ... Show more content on

toward elucidating advantages of indigenous over Western NRM

A moral dilemma is to be placed in a situation which involves conflicts between
moral requirements. These situations have a very apparent conflict between moral
imperatives such that obeying one will result in transgressing the other. This paper
will demonstrate choices, tragedy, respect, individuality, and values in the
following stories: The Moose and The Sparrow by Hugh Garner, The Yellow
Sweater by Hugh Garner, The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, The Painted Door
by Sinclair Ross, and David by Earle Birney A choice is something one must make

Painted Door John chose to leave Ann at home with a snow storm on its way so
that he could walk five miles to his fathers house to make sure he would be warm

to walk an extra two miles to Steven s home to ask if he could keep Ann company
until John returned home. Ann chose to commit adultery. She loved John, she is
dedicated to him, but she felt neglected by him and was in desperate need for love
and comfort. She chose to let Steven to ease her emotions by taking advantage of her

FABRICATION AND TESTING OF ICE PLANT TEST RIG
ABSTRACT
Refrigeration may be defined as the process of achieving and maintaining a
temperature below that of the surrounding, the aim being to freeze to ice, cool some
product, or space to the required temperature. The basis of modern refrigeration is
the ability of liquids to absorb enormous quantities of heat as they boil and evaporate.
One of the most important applications of refrigeration air conditioning is to produce
ice for commercial applications with minimum energy consumption. Ice plant is
used for producing refrigeration effect which uses the vapor compression cycle and

COMPRESSOR
In this Ice Plant we use the reciprocating compressor. The compressor in which the
vapour refrigerant is compressed by reciprocating motion of piston is known as
reciprocating compressor. The purpose of compressor in the vapour compression
cycle is to compress the low pressure dry gas from the evaporator and raise its
pressure to that of condenser. There are two types of reciprocating compressor,
Positive Displacement and Dynamic. In this plant we are using positive displacement
hermetic compressor. Since the compression of the refrigerant requires some work to
be done on it, therefore a compressor must be driven by some prime mover. The
prime mover is an electric motor which converts input electrical energy to useful
mechanical work. This work is transmitted as torque to the compressor through
common shaft and coupling

29. Drinking And College Students
Drinking in college is a popular activity to take part in. However, that does not mean
it is healthy or useful. Alcohol companies feed off college students. Their advertising
is directed at underage drinkers, and many college students fall into that category. So,
why do these young adults drink? The answer is in the ads, the alcoholcompanies are
promoting fun times and joyous lives. Therefore, the underage students see drinking
as a social normand think they might even have a better life after they start drinking.
Nonetheless, people know the cold hard truth about alcohol, it is an unhealthy and
even deadly substance. Colleges need to fix their alcohol advertising and drinking
problems by dropping their alcohol sponsors and promoting healthier lifestyles along
with showing the students that you do not need to drink to become popular, which in
turn eliminates underage drinking and the harm that goes along with alcohol
consumption. Whether alcohol companies will admit that their advertising is focused
on underage people and more specifically underage college students, it is the truth.
Multiple tests and surveys have been conducted on students and the effect that
alcohol adverting through social media has on them. In Carrotte s article about this
topic, she conducts a study on a large group of students and young adults with a
median age of 21.1 years old. The people in the survey that marked that they had
consumed alcohol also had to fill out an audit. The

Divine Law versus Human Law
Sophocles famous play, Antigone, can be perceived as a conflict between individual
conscience and state policy. Yet the issue of the play goes beyond that conflict and
touches the universal conditions of suffering, religion, and loyalty. Through Antigone
s character which represents the spheres of family loyalty, divine law, and human
suffering, Sophocles conveys the idea that a law of man that violates religious law
is not a law at all. He expresses this idea by having Antigone dutifully bury her
brother s body although it is against King Kreon s ruling. Antigone s action is not
only an act of family loyalty but is an act of piety demanded by the gods. The play

Suffering is a universal condition that the characters in the play must deal with.
Since the day Polyneices and Eteokles died, Ismene suffers by not being capable of
having emotions. She says to Antigone: Nothing makes me happy, nothing hurts me
anymore (Sophocles 22). The loss of loved ones can cause one to suffer but to not
honor those who died can cause a vast amount of distress. Because Eteokles was
honorably buried and Polyneices was not, Antigone suffered for her brother; the guilt
built every second he remained unburied. She does not regret burying her brother by
saying, But if I had let my own brother stay unburied/I would have suffered all the
pain I do not feel now (Sophocles 572 3). She would rather bury her brother and go
against the state than live her life in pain. She is independent in her decision
because she would is willing to suffer her own death so she won t suffer her
brother s death any longer: I m ready to suffer for it and to die./Let me. No
suffering could be so terrible as to die for nothing (Sophocles 120 3). She is
conveying that no matter what, she will suffer. If she does nothing for her brother
she will suffer and if she does, she will suffer the death penalty. It is better, she
concludes, to suffer and die out of loyalty to her own family. Although Ismene

Introduction
Investment on securities such as shares, debentures, bonds are profitable as well as
exciting. It is indeed rewarding but involves a great deal of risk. Shapiro (2006)
describes the emergence and growth of the market for derivative instruments can be
traced back to the willingness of risk averse economic agents to guard themselves
against uncertainties arising out of fluctuations in asset prices. Kawaller, the
President of Kawaller Company, LLC and Managing Director of the Kawaller Fund in
Brooklyn, NY (2008) analysed the prevailing scenario and stated that currency risk is
an inherent aspect of international commerce. Fortunately, for enterprises that

So a company should maintain a high level of interest coverage ratio (ICR) in order
to meet its debt obligations. A positive sign is expected between ICR and derivatives
usage.
Liquidity
Nance et al. also argue that firms can reduce the expected financial distress and
agency costs associated with long term debt by maintaining greater short term
liquidity. The variable used as proxy for a firm s short term liquidity is the quick
ratio. The quick ratio, a variant of the current ratio, measures a firm s ability to repay
short term operating liabilities with readily available cash.
Underinvestment
Myers (1977), Smith and Watts (1992) have found that firm value depends on the
future opportunities. If there are lots of investment opportunities available to the
firms, it seems that this firm has the capability to generate more cash flow to the firm
and to the shareholders. Consequently, this will be reflected in the stock price. So,
the value of a firm having much more investment opportunities will be higher
compared with the one of a firm with limited set of investment opportunities, which is
supported by the result form Allayannis (2001). As an indicator of investment
opportunities for the company, PPE, the ratio of a firm s capital expenditures for
property, plant, and equipment to total assets and R D is the ratio

Mary Rowlandson tried her best to keep her faith and believe in the power of God to

it to help stay alive, but also to increase his popularity with the Indians to win over
their favor and support. Cabeza De Vaca became known as a healer to many of the
Indians. At one point, Cabeza De Vaca stated that:
And during that time I fared very badly, both from great hunger and from the ill
treatment I received from the Indians, which was so bad that I had to flee three

Cabeza De Vaca, winning favor, used his religious views in order to get some of

36. Defending Abortion and the Law Behind It
Abortion
No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or
will not be a mother. ― Margaret Sanger
In america abortion has caused so much controversy. Abortion is just as simple as a
mother terminating her pregnancy because of numerous reasons. It could be because
of rape, health problems, they are not in the right position to take care of the child, or
it could be a life threatening risk. And many more reasons why women have
abortions.
Today my partner and I will be a pro choice supporting abortion and the meaning and
circumstances behind it. We will go more in depth about abortions and why women
should have the right to have abortions.
As the first point is the abortion law was considered legal by Roe V. Wadecase. Roe,
a pregnant single woman, brought a class action suit challenging the
constitutionality of the Texas abortion laws. These laws made it a crime to obtain
or attempt an abortion except on medical advice to save the life of the mother. But
why is this even being questioned? Should a woman have a choice to be pregnant
or not? It s just absolutely absurd! I disagree with most of society that says abortion
should be illegal. We have the rights to do what we want with our body. (Roe V.
Wade: The Abortion Rights Controversy in American History) Secondly I would
like to state the fact that almost FOUR decades ago, Roe V. Wade passed the law for
legal abortion. Does that not mean anything to anyone! During the Roe V. Wade case

ways. Two of the most significant differences are the elimination of the discrepancy
criterion in diagnosing learning disabilities in favor of multi level support for all
students, and the centrality of culturally responsive practices (Wisconsin Department
of Public Instruction, 2010).

A Role of Ethics and Social Responsibilities in Management.
Ethics can be defined as a process of evaluating actions according to moral principal
of values(A.Alhemoud). Throughout the centuries people were trying to choose
between profit and moral. Perhaps, some of them obtain both, but every time it could
have roused ethical issues. Those issues concern fairness, justice, rightness or
wrongness; as a result it can only be resolved according to ethical standards. Setting
the ethical standards for the way of doing business in corporation is primarily task of
management. Corporations have to maintain the same standards as an individual
person and, in addition, corporations, as organizational units, have their own social ...

Moreover, the public demand for prosecution of any violations of corporate,
professional and business ethics has been increased. Finally, mass media made

conduct regulations were created to draft guidelines for ethical conduct, develop a
process for monitoring business practices and recommend ways to correct
questionable activities. (J.Byrne) All these measures were taken to balance various
social responsibilities with the high degree of moral and sense of attainment.

39. Stereotypes In The Aeneid
Virgil potrays his characters, both male and female, in a way that threatens the
standard cultural norms of Rome at this time. While they do possess certain Roman
characteristics, Penthesilia, an Amazon warrior queen, Dido, queen of Carthage,
and Camilla, a female warrior, are all well known representations of women
destined to face their doom in a world that is completely dominated by males. These
examples serve to reinforce the importance of gender roles and also to serve as
warning signs for when limits are surpassed. The Aeneidserves not only to establish a
Roman identity that acknow3ledges that women are indeed a necessary component to
the continued existence, but also what happens when their role extends too far. Virgil

He is described by Virgil in Book I as father Aeneas and fond father, as always
thoughtful of his son. Aeneas is deeply respectful of his father and is highly
devoted to his son. During the fall of Troy, Aeneas carries his father on his back
and holds his young son [s hand as they make their way out of danger and to safety.
In Book III, Aeneas s paternal responsibilities have been expanded to include his
son, the Trojans placed in his care, and the entire future of the Roman race. Aeneas
celebrates the anniversary of his father s death by sacrificing to the gods and
participating in the tradition of the athletic games. He maintains a very deep
respect for Anchises, his father, even after his death. When Aeneas visits the
underworld, the pietas he has for Anchises is evidebnt. Later, the notion of pietas
is made visible in Aeneas s son who takes on the great responsibility of gathering
and leading the warriors. He respects Aeneas s role as a leader and makes every
attempt possible to follow through with Aeneas s duties. The love that exists between
fathers and sons, the ideal of pietas, is one of the most emotional bonds portrayed in

40. The Industrialization Of The World Trade Markets Essay
intro Before the 1900s Latin America began to strengthen their economy by means
of industrialization. In doing this they developing railroads, roads, and port
facilities which increased trade and profits. Because of these advancements, they
were able to participate in the world trade markets. Some larger countries such as
Brazil and Argentina grew exponentially by trading there products (coffee and
wheat). After the World Wars, trade declined in world markets and Latin American
governments found it necessary to practice Import Substitution Industrialization
(ISI). ISI is the creation of domestic industry to provide products previously
imported. ISI was Latin America s principle method in achieving economic growth.
Though the ISI was not successful in Latin America, it was victorious in Brazil
raising Brazil from a third world country to first world status. During the early
stages of Industrialization, Brazil s earnings from traditional exports of goods were
declining. According to____, shows the importance of various merchandise in the
world trade markets. It s concluded that the importance of food products and
agriculture have declined. Also with the decline in world trade, like the rest of Latin
America, Brazil s policy makers agreed that ISI was necessary for economic growth.
Following the WW there was an industrialization spurt which called for new policies.
Some policies that were formed were import licensing system, multiple exchange rate
system, and modified system.

Swimming became a true sport in the 19th century when Great Britain began to
start holding competitions to see who could get from one side of the pool to the
other the fastest. The first type of stroke that they used was breaststroke because
that was the easiest way to swim at the time while still being able to breathe. As
time progressed the British started using a stroke called the forward crawl with a
scissor kick, however a man named Frederick Cavill in 1887 traveled to the South
Seas and saw people using the forward crawl but with a flutter kick which is now our
modern day freestyle. Swimmingfirst became featured in the Olympics in 1896 and
the only strokes that were raced were Freestyle and Breaststroke. Backstroke was

Millions of Americans suffers from the effects of alcohol and drug abuse. It can

alcoholism or drug addiction begins, an individual s problems not only don t go

from the immediate and long term adverse effects from the drugs and alcohol abuse.
Is it really true that advertising increases alcohol consumption, which increases

This is how young people view them. If one treats beverage alcohol as a dangerous
substance to be avoided and not even advertised, he or she inadvertently can raise it
up from the ordinary into the range of the powerful, the tantalizing, and the desirable
Big Deal. (Hanson, 1997). In so doing, we slip into the familiar, failed pattern of
demonizing the substance of alcohol rather than discouraging irresponsible behavior.
Alcohol addiction is a very serious and life threatening illness. Everything can get
ruined in one s life. The life cycle of alcohol addiction begins with a problem,
discomfort or some for of emotional or physical pain a person is experiencing and
becomes difficult to deal with. At some point alcohol or drug enters the picture and
provides a temporary, synthetic relief, and for a moment it seems to act as a solution
to the problem. Alcohol addiction can be overcome and the individual can return to
leading a happy, healthy, productive and responsible life once again. Often people
drink during social occasions; it tends to loosen inhibitors.
Unfortunately, the recklessness often is the result of excessive drinking and is a
leading cause of serious injuries and accidental deaths. In addition, alcohol is the
most common cause of preventable birth defects that include fatal alcohol syndrome.
The effects of alcohol abuse can be short term and long term. Short term effects of
alcohol use include: altered

*PLEASE NOTE: As I was unable to find both of these scenes by themselves online,
I have transcribed where they occur in their larger bodies and have attached
screenshots that directly relate to my points.
OBJECT ONE: Projector Scene from the episode Hush, of Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
occurring approximately 27 minutes in.
I have chosen to scrutinize this particular scene as its complete lack of dialogue
allows us to closely examine how non verbal communication is used to convey
meaning. Nonverbal communication between people is communication through
sending and receiving wordless cues (Stephen W. Littlejohn 2009). When we consider
that Individuals are believed to use clothing to define and communicate their social
identities to others (Fienberg 1992), we can attach a wealth of information to the
onscreen characters simply from observing their costumes. Giles blazer allows him to
be viewed as authoritative and mature; Buffy s fashionable outfit is synonymous with
her popular status, whilst Xander s sports Guernsey and sneakers underpin his casual,
outgoing persona. The director of the show uses the
style, branding, colour and fashionability of the clothing as a tool for the audience to
assess their personality traits (Chalky et al, 2012).
Non verbal communication within this scene also manifests itself via kinetic
transmission; that is, posture, eye contact and the

same qualities as the Party does in 1984 and making the dystopian society in the
novel seem closer to the real world than we thought. Through symbols in the novel
such as the telescreens and the news, we are able to see exactly how the Party is
able to control the people by completely eliminating any sense of privacy. Winston

Telescreens are a computer screen which the Thought Police uses to survey the
people as well as a way for the Party to communicate information. Their placement
is all over the entire state of Oceania leaving no privacy for any of the Oceanian
citizens. Winston says, Every sound you made was overheard, and, except in
darkness, every movement scrutinized (Orwell 3). This shows the telescreens
allow constant surveillance, and even in the dark, it picks up ever sounds.
Therefore, these devices make it so that the Party knows what you are doing all
the time. This also shows there is no margin for error when it comes to the Party.
Any disobedient gesture or act will be picked up the telescreens. The Thought
Police will arrest you if they pick up any sort of act or thought of action against the
Party. Even in the safety of your own home, you are really not safe at all. However
there is one thing the telscreen cannot pick up, He thought of the telescreen with its
never sleeping ear. Winston explains, They could spy upon you night and day, but if
you kept your head you could still outwit them (Orwell 166). This shows that the
telescreen is always watching with its never sleeping ear. However, one thing the
telescreens cannot control is the human mind and knowledge. This where the media
and news and the how the Party runs it comes

Above are the trials I had on the cell before I did the final and last trial. It seems
that the Duracell lasted the longest during the second trial, and the first trial they
came to a close tie. So for the final and last trial I would have to see how long the
batteries last by doing the expeirment percisely as I can. The first battery I tested is
the Energizer battery which lasted 6 hours, and 35 minuets. The second battery I
tested is the Duracell battery which lasted 22 hours and 15 minuets. The third
battery I tested is the Enercell battery which lasted 15 hours, and 2 minuets. The last
battery I tested was the Rayovac battery which lasted for 24 hours, and 30
minuets. The battery brand which lasted the longest out of the four of them was the
Rayovac battery. My expeirment came to end, because all the batteries burned out.
After all the batteries were done with testing I organizied them into a graph showing
how long each of the batteries lasted. The outcome was that the Rayovac battery
lasted the longest. I rejected my hypothesis because my hypothesis staed the
Rayovac battery, and the Duracell battery will end in a tie. Which was wrong,
because the Rayovac battery lasted longer then the Duracell cell battery. However I
overlooked the fact that the Rayovac battery wasn t made out of just Lithium it was
made out of Lithium Ion. Which is
47. Coal Is A Fossil Fuel
Coal is a fossil fuel and is the result of altered remains of prehistoric vegetation that
originally accumulated in swamps and peat bogs. The material that formed fossil
fuels varied greatly over time as each layer was buried. As a result of these variations
and the length of time the coal was forming, several types of coalwere created.
Depending upon its composition, each type of coal burns differently and releases
different types of emissions.
The first step of coal formation occurs when peat is transformed physically and
chemically. This process is known as coalification. During the process of
coalification, peat endures a plethora of changes due to bacterial decay,
compaction, heat, and time. Peat deposits differ in content from one another and
can contain everything from pristine plant parts such as roots, bark, spores, etc. to
decayed plants, decay products, and even charcoal if the peat caught fire during
accumulation. Coal is formed in anoxic swamp areas with a plethora of vegetation.
In such an environment, the accumulation of plant debris exceeds the rate of
bacterial decay of the debris. The bacterial decay rate is reduced because the
available oxygen in organic rich water is completely used up by the decaying
process. Anaerobic (without oxygen) decay is much slower than aerobic decay.
In order for the peat to turn into coal, it is necessary for the peat to be covered by
sediment. The peat is compacted and as a result, much water is squeezed out during
the first

Streaming services platforms are much more interactive compared to cable. The
viewer can pause, rewind or fast forward through the content; viewers can change
the language if they demand. The streaming services video player remembers the
exact time the viewer stopped watching, so the viewer can resume their program
from where they were left off. Also, Consumers have the freedom to watch
anything from the streaming services diverse content catalog, and they can rate
and write a review of the shows and movies. Also, consumers can conserve their
favorite shows and movies in my list section to watch it later. Netflix, Hulu, and
Amazon also offer far more than cable does. People can watch a wide variety of
movies, from comedies to documentaries, which may never air on the TV. Netflix
subscribers can also choose among a range of different TV shows as many times
as they want, even if it has been taken off the original channel it aired on (Binge or
Bust? Netflix Vs. Cable TV 1). Streaming services use an advanced algorithm. This
algorithm collects data from the viewers to learn about viewer s interest. As an
example, let say the viewer just watched a comedy movie and if the viewer gives
the movie a positive rating, this algorithm will remember that and in the future, it
will suggest the same kinds of movies to the viewer. This same algorithm helped
Netflix create their original hit series House of Cards. In the

Release air from tires. Now that all of the wheels are off and the hubs are buffed
you need to release the air out of tires. There is a special tool called a VCR (Valve
Core Remover) that allows you to remove the core out of the valve without damaging
the sensor that is beneath it. Once all the of air has left tireyou need to put it up to the

The placement of the shovel is very important as you can damage the wheel if the

the Watchers who lead them into sins are Semihazah and Azazel. Azazel was the
leader of the improper revelations, of showing and telling the wrong teachings. This

Qumran was a settlement inhabited by the Essenes. The Essenes were a strict,
isolationist, Judaism group that believed themselves to be the right group and all
other groups were wrong. This resulted in their isolation from other groups because
they were unsuccessful in convincing other groups to live by their standards. The
Essenes expected that the end was near. The Hasmoneans can be viewed as Jewish
terrorists or freedom fighters that wanted to establish a Jewish state. They were
successful in overthrowing Greek rule and establishing a Jewish state. The
Hasmoneans also claimed king and priestly roles. However, kings were only
supposed to be from the line of David and priestly roles were only to be fulfilled
from the lineage of Zadok. Therefore, the Hasmonean rule was breaking covenant
rules because its rulers did not abide by the proper lineages. The Teacher of
Righteousness, who served as the official mediator of revelation, taught that what
the Hasmoneans were doing was wrong and that it would lead to the end. The
Essenes viewed themselves as the Sons of Light, representing the community and
