1. Examples Of Poetry Analysis Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Examples of Poetry Analysis Essays" can be both
challenging and rewarding. The difficulty arises from the nuanced nature of poetry and the
intricate task of dissecting its elements. Analyzing poetry goes beyond merely appreciating the
verses; it involves deciphering the poet's intent, understanding literary devices, and delving into
the emotions conveyed through language.
One of the initial challenges lies in selecting appropriate examples for analysis. With countless
poets and poems spanning various genres and eras, the choices can be overwhelming. Careful
consideration must be given to picking poems that not only showcase the diversity of poetic
styles but also provide ample material for in-depth exploration.
Once the poems are selected, the actual analysis demands a keen eye for detail. Unraveling the
layers of meaning within each line requires a deep understanding of literary devices such as
metaphors, similes, symbolism, and imagery. Grappling with the poet's choice of words and their
connotations adds another layer of complexity to the analysis.
Moreover, weaving these observations into a coherent essay structure can be a formidable task.
The challenge is to present a fluid narrative that seamlessly integrates examples, analyses, and
interpretations without losing the reader's attention. Balancing the technical aspects of poetic
analysis with the emotional and subjective responses to the poetry poses a continual challenge.
Despite the difficulties, delving into the world of poetry analysis offers an opportunity for
intellectual growth and a richer appreciation of language. It encourages a nuanced exploration of
the intricate dance between form and content, challenging the writer to articulate the ineffable
beauty inherent in poetic expression.
In conclusion, navigating the intricacies of crafting an essay on "Examples of Poetry Analysis
Essays" demands a blend of analytical prowess, literary sensitivity, and effective communication
skills. The process is an enriching journey that not only hones one's writing abilities but also
deepens one's connection to the profound artistry of poetry.

2. Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls
For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is a historical fiction love story, set
in Spain during the Spanish Civil war, which heavily develops thematically from a
line about human nature from John Donne s Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions of
No man is an Iland; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main,
(Preface). Within the novel, anti fascist American man, Robert Jordan, transforms
from a distrustful man into an altruist for his loved ones, who discovers the idea
Donne put onto paper and Hemingway transcribed, creating a true, convincing, and
logical conclusion (4, 247); however, this change almost solely comes from the plot
device of romantic love, which is only able to be understood as logical with a
suspension of disbelief (210). In order to judge the plot of the journey of the
protagonist and the ending of the novel, his development as a character should
first be analyzed. Initially, when coming to the revolution, Robert Jordan views
the world as a black and white battle of ideas and his only fear was not to complete
his duty to his cause in life and war, rather than the people the fighting truly stands
for (51), which also extends to his lack of initial trust in his comrade, Anselmo (4).
Jordan as an independent loner represents a man believing he is an Iland, in how he
chooses to separate himself from others and believes his ideology is flawless, rather
than trying to improve as a human. Jordan eventually falls out of his linear views,
3. Joseph Mccarthy And The Mccarthy Era
In the United States, the 1950s was a time riddled with heightened political
repression due to the fear of communism. This fear was instilled in the people by the
American government, who saw the growing fondness of communism around the
world as a threat to the American way of life. With Senator Joseph McCarthy as the
head of the communist witch hunt, this period in time is often referred to as the
McCarthy Era. The McCarthy Era is marked by unjust accusations of disloyalty to the
United States without consideration for appropriate evidence. During this time,
thousands of American citizens were accused of communism and communist
sympathy. Of these thousands, a particular case stands out amongst the others. This
was the case of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, the first Americans ever executed for
espionage against the United States. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were a married
couple who were accused by the United States government of conspiracy against
America by running the operation of a Soviet spy ring that was leaking information
about the atomic bomb back to the Soviet Union. Although Julius and Ethel
Rosenberg were both eventually convicted as spies, there was little hard evidence
ever presented at their trial. However, many co conspirators testified for the trials,
which would eventually lead to their conviction. The Rosenberg s may have been
spies for Soviet Russia, but they were American citizens nonetheless who deserved a
just trial. The Rosenberg s did not have any

2/4/16 Comparing Modern Mongolia To Modern United States
Cultures in every area are always interesting to learn about and they are many
differences, let s see what we can learn about from modern Mongolia to the modern
United States. The countries that I will be comparing are the United States and
Mongolia in the today s world. My three main points that we are gonna learn about
are the eating habits, animal species, and how people live and interact with the
environment. The first point that I will be comparing is the way people eat in
Mongolia and the US.

For instance in the article Modern Mongolia kids wait at a bus stop men in suit
talking about business stuff at a cafe shop. People talk on a cellular phones. More
than half of the population lives on the countryside which is three million.
Information like this is important because now you know what they do (sorta) and
they act mature and they are not one of those poor countries.
United States
We Americans are always modern an article called american lifestyle parents have
children, always work, kids go to daycare, lots of people always on social media,
lots of narcissism, people meet on social media, fun things to do on weekends, lots
and lots and lots of other stuff. We americans tend to be busy a lot but we can have
fun and times to be serious. This information is important because for newcomers let
s say mongolians want to come to the US well the american lifestyle is so much
more different at least I think so. Eating habits, animals, and lifestyle are very
interesting topics to compare about, it s also important because each of these plays a
very important role in each country. People can learn about and share cultures without
stereotyping by ging on research in
5. Identities Are Multiple And Grow In Spurts
Many key concepts in chapters 3,4, and 8 are directly related. For example, affirming
another person s culture reinforces that identities are multiple and grow in spurts.
There are similarities and differences in family and cultural group histories. Lastly,
many people need explanation in an intercultural relationship, which may lead to
multicultural identities. All of these things directly affect one another, specifically
intercultural relationships. Consequently, an intercultural relationship contains all of
these concepts. One challenge many people face in intercultural relationships is
affirming the other person s culture. This means that we need not only to recognize
that the other person might have different beliefs, perceptions, and attitudes, but also
to accept those characteristics as an important part of the other s identity. (Martin
/Nakayama pg. 262) A person s identity in that relationship is one of their many
identities. Identities are multiple and depend on different times and contexts. They
are also created in spurts. Their identity may not grow for a long period of time, until

The explanation is to other people, family and society about their relationship, and to
each other about their individual cultures. This process of mutual clarification is one
of the healthiest characteristics of intercultural relationships. (Martin/Nakayama pg.
262) Providing explanation to each other, about their own cultures, may lead to
multicultural identities. Once a person learns of the other s traditions, values, or
religion, they may identify more, in that aspect, with the other culture. You have
multiple identities both outside and within your intercultural relationship. Your
identities within your intercultural relationship may be multicultural, which is
brought about by explanation from one another. Without the explanation, you may
have never known you identify

English, T. J. Paddy Whacked: The Untold Story of the Irish American Gangster.
New York: Regan, 2006, 442 p.p
Throughout his career T.J English has written five books and a multitude of
articles for the LA Times, The New York Times, Playboy, and a variety of other
magazines and newspapers. All of his books (The Westies, Born to Kill, Havana
Nocturne, and The Savage City) and articles cover some aspect of the criminal
world, whether it be the criminal themselves, or the act that they carry out. T.J
English was awarded the New York Press Club Award for Best Crime Reporting back
in 2010 and had already written two books about organized crime which shows that

Another misconception I had was that gangsters/mobsters controlled only corrupt
policemen and judges when in fact, they controlled people at all levels of the
government, occasionally even the president. Important characters like president
James K. Polk, the Kennedy s, and several senators had a relationship with Irish
American gangsters that contributed to the politician as well as the gangster s
success. Their strongest relationships though, were with the police force.
Becoming a policeman was encouraged by the White Anglo Saxon Protestants
because who better to take on the dangerous, low paying job than a Paddy? (61)
And so, Irishmen who often had grown up with famous mobsters ended up as the
majority of the police force; mobsters not only gained more power in the local area
due to this, but the stage was now set for corruption at all levels as well.
In addition to the educational facts, I also learned some neat fun facts about
gangsters and their traditions. Old Smoke Morrissey was the first true Irish Mob
Boss, and as such he was the one who established the looks, desires, and attitude
that we derive our stereotypes from. He started the tendency of wearing striped
suits, hats, big rings, and pocket watches, as well as having a well kept beard and
hoping to be accepted by aristocratic society through money. The famous book The
Great Gatsby was actually inspired by the mixture of glamour and danger that

October 17, 2015 Media vs. the body Image Body image remains to be a very
controversial topic in today s society, because of how easy it is to become a hate
crime over a small comment on how small or big someone s body is. Today, it is
unavoidable to see the look that it seems society wants us to look. Professor Susan
Bordo writes the article, Never Just Pictures , describing her investigation between
the media and its effects on how people view their bodies. She uses ethos, logos,
and pathos to bring in the attention of the people, in order to get her message across
to be aware of media and how they portray the ideal body image. Bordo notes the
patterns of the different types of models that magazines and commercial ads use,
to say that even though they have changed the face of beauty, they never really
changed the body of it. And she analyzes the affects that these ads have on how
people view their bodies, and alter what the ideal body image is. Bordo uses other
sources to prove her argument mainly allowing readers to have more reasons to side
with her argument. Having reviewed this article, I think that we should publish this
article in the Shorthorns, because it will attract the attention of most people, since
right now young people still struggle with differentiating between what is a real
body and what is a body that has been altered for the likes of what the media likes.
Bordo s main claim to the article is that media is
8. Visual Aesthetics
Part One: Visual Aesthetics Essay The work of art I chose is a sculpture by
Antonio Raggi which is located in the church of Santi Domenico e Sisto, in Rome. I
think it gives meaning to the story by giving you a physical work that expresses all
of the thoughts and emotions the characters are feeling. The piece shows Mary on
her knees in front of Jesusdesperately reaching towards him, probably to prove to
herself that he is really there in front of her, while Jesus seems to be gesturing with
his outstretched hand do not touch me . The first thing that I was drawn to when I

most important part in the sculpture. My eyes then wandered to Jesus s face, then to...

Mary is talking with a man she assumes is a gardener asking him questions, instead
of answering he speaks her name, causing Mary to instantly recognize who she
thought was a gardener as instead being Jesus. Why did Mary not recognize him
until she heard his voice? This is because, according to Nancy because she believes
that which she hears. Some other characters in the story put their faith in what
they saw, the disciple John sees an empty tomb and based on what he sees is able
to believe that Jesus has risen from the dead. However, Mary Magdalene could not
place her faith in what she saw like others could. When she saw the empty tomb
with the discarded bandages she still didn t believe that Jesus could be alive, and
even when Jesus himself was standing before her she was still unable to believe.
What triggered Mary to come to the understanding that Jesus was alive was not
sight, but sound. When she heard his voice she instantly knew that it was him
before her and not the gardener she had believed him to be. After she knew it was
him she called out to Jesus to show him that she believed. She used her voice to
show him that she has believed based on that which she can hear. Some need to see

9. Relationship In Tracy Chevalier s Girl With A Pearl Earring
In Girl with a Pearl Earring , Tracy Chevalier tells the story of the creating of
Vermeer s famous painting titled Girl with a Pearl Earring . Chevalier explains the
artist s complicated relationship with both models and patrons. She also touches on
how apprenticeships worked during this time period. There is also in depth
descriptions of the mixing of paints and color application. Chevalier gives a realistic
representation of what the process of art creation entails in the 17th century.
The patron and the artist often have a somewhat complicated relationship. The patron
describes to the artist what they want in the painting, and it s in the artist s best
interest to follow instructions carefully, or they might not be paid. At the same time,
however, it would be best for the patron to give the artist some creative freedom, as
they understand the elements of art best. The price of the art may be determined by
any number of things. It could be set by characteristics of the painting, like the type
of paint used, the materials, the size of the painting, or the number of people featured
in the composition. For example, paintings containing ultramarine blue would be
more expensive because it is made with lapis lazuli, a very expensive semi precious
stone. The prices could also be determined by the guild or another outside
influence. Griet mentions in the book she suspected that Maria Thins struck up
the deals for Vermeer. Depending on the severity of the discrepancy, a patron
could find another artist, or an artist can simply solve the problem the patron has
with the work. For example, if there was a small detail the patron was unhappy
with, it could be fixed relatively quickly and easily. If the patron was unhappy with
the piece in its entirety, and the artist was unwilling to comply with their requests, it
would not be completely out of the question for the patron to find a different artist.
Throughout the book, there is a wide range of type of models used. The models
were typically chosen by the patron, like the patron s wives or whoever may strike
the fancy of the patron, like Griet, for example. Stereotypically, however, the models
often had a special sort of relationship with the artist. After many hours
10. What Is The Root Of Social Darwinism
The survival of the fittest the root of Social Darwinism. Charles Darwin, who was a
naturalist ruled out that an adaptable species would only survive and reproduce. The
concept is the same in Social Darwinism, but was not introduced by Darwin. Social
Darwinists such as Herbert Spencer and William Sumner claimed that in a society,
only the wealthiest and powerful survives in contrast with the poor and impotent.
This applies especially to the people living under Laissez faire capitalismin which the
government does not control the business. Andrew Carnegie s gospel of wealth
contradicted with the common believes of Social Darwinism. Andrew proposed that
the wealthy should distribute their wealth to level up the discrepancy between
people. Spencer, Sumner, the famous Darwinists advocated that life of a human was a
struggle for existence, where only the best thrives. Human life was basically
contrasted with organisms. Darwinists held belief that the wealthy will have more
independence, basic needs, and sophisticated living, and the poor left out to die. They
thought that poor were unfit for the survival, and thus should be aided.... Show more

He insisted that the wealthiest should share their wealth to others who in need. In his

wealth to others in a thoughtful manner. His ultimate goal was to gravel up the
inequality between people. Traditionally, wealth was passed down to generation;
Carnegie proposed that it would be beneficiary to spend that wealth to the public.
Andrew argued to put the wealth to its best use when administered by the wealthy. He
is also against the extravagant spending, and wasting capital rather than investing into
something beneficial. He put his philosophies into practice by building Carnegie

people, both famous and not. They are painted by a variety of artists of European

The little girl s dress gives the texture of lightness and seems like airy fabric that
would be thin and translucent. The time in this piece is very accurate of the late
1700 s and when viewing it, the time seems classic. The emphasis of this piece is
mainly the mother and the daughter, however when looking at them you are drawn
into looking at their realistic eyes. The eyes seem like the focal point which draws
the viewer in to the picture.
The relationship in the painting between the mother and daughter give it a definite
asymmetrical balance and maybe a little radial balance. A radial balance because of
their eyes being the central focus, then the faces, then the holding of each other, then
where they are placed on the canvas, and then the bench and the landscape. The
colors used by the painter, also creates balance with in the picture. The wine
colored dress of the mother, red sash of the daughter s dress, ruby lips, and the rosy
cheeks give a warm feeling to the central focus of the mother and daughter. The
cool color of the sky is the same as the women s eyes as well as the trees and green
on the mother s dress. These balances give unity or a unifying feeling to the painting,
especially between the mother and daughter.
The idea of this piece is to show the connection between mother and daughter being
painted. It shows the time and the classic style of the

It is possible to understand certain pieces of literature outside its historical context;

Muhammad Ali was a Palestinian poet that was born in 1931. He grew up in
Saffuriya, Galilee which is located in the Middle East. Ali was self taught through his
readings of classical Arabic literature, American fiction, and English poetry. Ali then
began to write poems in the 1970s. He wrote a poem entitled Meeting at an Airport
which is based on his personal experiences. Without knowing his background
information and history, it is unclear about what exactly is meant by this poem. This
piece of literature elicits the sense of reconnection and the exact same feelings for
each other just like the first time they met. In the poem, Meeting at an Airport written
by Taha Muhammad Ali, historical context is needed to understand this piece because
it emphasizes the theme, the purpose of the poem, and establishes credibility ( Poetry
Foundation ). When a reader grasps a theme throughout any piece of literature, he or
she never clearly understands the intent without knowing where the theme came
from. The theme that is portrayed in the poem is, often times reconnecting with a

Opening Sentences... Widely considered her most celebrated book of poems, the
posthumous Ariel exposes Plath s twisted physiological torment. Perhaps its most
well known work, Lady Lazarus unambiguously examines suicide and death. It cloaks
its reader in the solitude that weighs so heavily on its author. In this poem, Plath
alludes to Lazarus, a man who Jesus resurrects from the dead. Plath is in fact the
female foil to this biblical figure, and through the chaos and loneliness her husband,
father, and friends cultivate, they ultimately drive her to suicide. However, despite her
attempts, the poet unfailingly rises from her deathbed to confront an increasingly
harsher world. Similar to Plath, singer songwriter Joni Mitchellintroduces themes...

Mitchell s self awareness is essential to understanding her particular predicament.

they are irresponsible; other times it is because they drive as if they don t have
anywhere to be and make the road congested. They worst of all types of drivers are
those that drive at 100 mph in areas where no one should be going over half that.
Ideally, one would want to avoid the reckless Road ragers, the overly careful
Sunday Drivers, and the speedy Dragsters, at all costs. The Road ragers are the
drivers that think they own the road. They don t care about anyone. When
someone is going too slow, these guys will ride on top of his bumper; an easy
solution to this problem is to ease off the accelerator and go even slower to let the
jerks know who is in control. Once these numbskulls are able to pass, they often

They put everyone on the road with in danger because these motorists will race

fairly easy because any time they arrive at a light, the car s engine will begin to
roar at its owner s request, and the tires will squeal in pain as the car takes off. The
car has a distinct look to it as well; usually, the car will have tinted black windows
and very low suspension. Extremely dedicated, and dangerous, dragster will have
their engines tuned just for the extra edge on the residential streets they frequent. If
a casual driver had to pick one driver type to share the road with, he would never pick

20. Evaluation And Synopsis Of The Event
Written Evaluation/Synopsis of the Event
Our event was complicated from the beginning; however, our group managed a
brand new event for the Undergraduate Communication Association through the
guidance of Jessica Thompson and Josh Nesselrodt as our clients and the hard work
of our team. The event that our group hosted was Pathfinder, a communication
driven discussion of both academics and career opportunities through two panels.
The event, sponsored by the Pepsi Enhancement fund, despite conquering several
great feats as a new event with high reviews from attendees, a few things did not go
as we panned for our event. However, we would like to discuss various others in
which we took much pride.
First, we had originally discussed a later date that gave us some leeway with how we
were going to present marketing materials as well as the social media strategy to
promote our event properly. Pressed for time, we cut our event time by a few weeks.
This led to a few issues as we had much to do in little time. We were able to get
flyers out to the campus area as well as promote through our Facebook event and the
University of Maryland s UCA Twitter handle.
Another victory for our group was our attendance. For the timing of the event being
on campus on Friday midday, we were able to pull a small group of an attentive
audience. Those that were there were engaged and in reviews, said they had found
the information very useful to their lives perusing communication. Panelists as well

this to be very important when given any time of leadership responsibility.
Second, I have also learned the importance of the forgive and forget mentality.
Having practice every day, it is easy to get on each others nerves. However, it is
important to realize that every day is a new day. Before coming to a conclusion, it is
crucial to listen to both sides and also take emotions into consideration.
Lastly, I feel that it is very important to plan floor activities that provide students on
the floor with opportunities to get to know each other. Through these activities and
new found relationships, I feel that it will help the residents to be more respectful,
social, and cordial with one another. Bonding opportunities create more of a family

22. Iraq War 2003 Essay
Before the invasion to Iraq and during the war, many Americans were misinformed
about the Iraq issue. They played a significant role in building and maintaining the
support for this military operation. A study called Misperceptions, the Media and the
Iraq War by The Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) showed that many
people held misperception about three main topics: involvement of the Iraqi
government in 9/11 and Al Qaeda, evidence of the weapons of mass destruction, and
favorable views of world public opinion. According to their polls, 57% of people
thought that Iraqwas directly involved in the 9/11 attacks or gave substantial
support to Al Qaeda. Moreover, 22% of respondents believed that weapons of mass
destruction were found in Iraq after the war and that Iraq actually used weapons of
mass destruction during the war, and one third thought that world public opinion has
approved of the US going to war with Iraq.
These misperceptions are one of the reasons, why Iraq war in 2003 became an
extensively discussed topic for many reasons and from many perspectives. One of

Marginal Cost Revenue
A way to determine the quantity of profit maximization is to conclude where marginal
revenue equals marginal costs. Rather than computing the profit for all levels of
sales; total revenue and total variable costs are considered. Marginal revenues and
marginal costs are considered in a similar way like marginal profit, thus defining the
amount of change for all sales levels (Huter, 2012, p.2).
Pricing Non Pricing Strategies
CVS needs to think through numerous elements impacting its business. Pricing
strategies, rivals and their current products, consumer demands and suppliers are
examples of these elements. For pricing strategies, CVS should consider closeouts,
discounts, product bundle pricing, penetration pricing, geographical pricing, and
membership or trade pricing. For non pricing strategies, options comprise: enhanced
service quality, longer opening hours, advertising, and extended warranties

As a result of Sir Isaac Newton s experiment, humans are able to have an
understanding of the light color spectrum; consisting of visible light, colors, and
electromagnetic radiation, the light color spectrum is only a very small portion of the
electromagnetic spectrum.
In 1666, Sir Isaac Newton set up an experiment that required a hole in a window
shade, a glass prism, daylight, and a darkened room. As the ray of daylight entered
the room, its beam passed through the prism. The light therefore then displayed onto
a further off white wall as a dispersing beam made up of various colors. This sight
led to Newton s conclusion that white light comprises of numerous types of light,
each being from a single pure color bent in differing angle degrees. Now using a
converging lens to block out some colors and refuse others, Newton continued his
experiment. Consequently, he discovered that the new visible colors had appeared
entirely distant than the ones found in the natural developing spectrums. ... Show

Although all electromagnetic radiation is light, our eyes can only perceive a small
portion, known as the visible light spectrum. Other names for the visible light
spectrum are known as the optical spectrum of light and the spectrum of white light.
We can see only a little portion of the spectrum for the reason being that some parts of
the visible spectrum contains wavelengths that are either too big or too small and
energetic for the human eye to comprehend. The additional wavelengths and

26. Important Aspects Of Music Education
Education should enhance understanding of the world, of oneself, and of one s
own experience (Kelly 2009). What is important about music education? There are
many important aspects in music education like pedagogy and performance. For
me, music education is about letting the students express themselves. Having the
ability to give an idea or to vent is a vital tool in today s society. This concept
influences music because expression is not only in how to connect a phrase, but
also how to tell a story. With my time in college, Dr. Joseph Frye will always tell me
to tell a story with music. He will also ask me what I want to feel after playing a
piece. This is what I believe is important in music education. What is it about
expression that makes it so important for music education? Firstly, expression is the
main source to music because you have all these different ways to create music.
Music can make a person feel great or can make a person feel down in the dumps.
Music could not do this to people if it did not have a little expression in it. Secondly,
expression is important to the emotional development. In an NAfME article, it states
that students who were involve with music are more emotionally developed (NAfME
2014). This statement is important because with emotions most people need to
express it, but it is usually harder to talk to someone about it. So why not utilize
music to do it? This ties back to music education because without music education no

A tornado is defined as a violently rotating column extending from a thunderstorm to
the ground. The most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with
wind speeds of two hundred and fifty miles per hour or more. Damage paths can be
more than one mile wide and fifty miles long. In an average year, eight hundred
tornadoes are reported nationwide, resulting in eighty deaths and over one thousand
five hundred injuries. In the body of my essay, I will tell you about types of

they inflict, variations of tornadoes, and how to detect tornadoes.

What makes them dangerous is that their energy is concentrated in a small area,
perhaps only a hundred yards across. Not all tornadoes are the same, of course, and
science does not yet completely understand how part of a thunderstorm s energy
sometimes gets focused into something as small as a tornado.
Whenever and wherever conditions are right, tornadoes are possible, but they are
most common in the central plains of North America, east of the Rocky Mountains
and west of the Appalachian Mountains. Tornadoes can also occur in many other
areas of the world as well. They have been recorded in Australia, Europe, Africa,
Asia, and South America as well as in North America. They occur mostly during the
spring and summer; however, the tornado season comes early in the south and later
in the north because spring comes later in the year as one moves northward. They
usually occur during the late afternoon and early evening. However, they have been
know to occur in every state in the United States, on any day of the year, and at any
hour.
The damage from tornadoes comes from the strong winds they contain. It is generally
believed that tornado wind speeds can be as high as three hundred miles per hour in
most violent tornadoes. Wind speeds that high can cause automobiles to become
airborne, rip ordinary homes to shreds, and turn broken glass and other debris into
lethal missiles. The biggest threat to living creatures, including humans, from
tornadoes is from
30. `` Medicine For Melancholy `` By Barry Jenkins Essay
Medicine for Melancholy , a film by Barry Jenkins, uses the story of a young African
American couple learning about each other to explore how Jenkins himself feels
about San Francisco s reputation for beauty and inclusion. The film starts with the
main characters, Micah and Joanne, waking up the morning after a drunken one night
stand and realizing that they do not know much about each other. Micah manages to
beguile a reluctant Joanne into spending the day together in San Francisco. Jenkins
uses picturesque and diverse communities as backdrops for the couple to celebrate
the superficial beauty and inclusiveness of San Francisco. As Micah and Joanne learn
more about each other, they discover that they have different perspectives about the
same city. Micah defines himself and his experiences in the city based on being
African American, and, although Joanne is conscious of her race, she does not view
race as what defines her or her place in San Francisco. At first the Jenkins focuses on
Micah s perspective, highlighting his passion for proselytizing about how black
peopleare struggling to find their identity in the city. With help from Joanne s more
centrist views and Jenkins artful cinematography, the film shifts focus away from
Micah s race centric perspective of inclusion to reveal that San Francisco, the city of
otherness, is actually forcing lower income people of all races to leave by
redevelopment making housing unaffordable. Through the depiction of a young
31. Biological Effects from Exposure to Second-Hand Smoke
Recently, there has been a lot of up to date evidence dealing with biological effects
from exposure to second hand smoke. A lot of people aren t educated about this
topic, but second hand smoke can harm someone almost as much as someone who
actually smokes, depending on how often he/she is around it. Young children are a
huge target for this subject because many biological and medical researchers have
found second hand smoke causing lifetime damage, and many other negative effects
to children as they grow. Smokingbans in certain areas around the world has caused
the number of children s hospital visits for asthmato drop significantly (Louis 1).
Children are also greatly affected by second hand smoke and some parents do not
realize the harm that they are causing to their young children. Young children are
growing fast and their lungs are also growing very fast and second hand smoke can
seriously damage their lungs temporarily or even permanently. Children can t walk
away from second hand smoke, either because they are too young to walk or their
parents won t let them. When children are riding in the back of a car and an adult
decides they want to smoke, the child or children have no other choice but to
breathe in the thick, chemical filled smoky air. 16 percent of the world s population
is covered by comprehensive smoke free laws, and 40 percent of children worldwide
are routinely exposed to second hand smoke (Louis 2). With the research that is

according to Mary Hall an american author who wrote the biography of Rosa Parks

were seated first, and that forces them to seat farther back or just stand until they
arrive to their stop. What also is ridiculous is that is that they are not allowed to sit
across from the whites in the same row (Academy of Achievement). Even throughout
all these rules, some bus drivers would just close their doors and take off before they
get on leaving them stranded to find another bus for transportation.

34. The Physical Pain Of The Worst Pain
Up to now, I have only described the physical pain. Which as it turns out was and is
not even close to being the worst pain. The worst pain resides way back in that dark
place you do not want to go, because you know if you allow yourself to crawl there,
you may never come back. All along the way, through this journey through pain, I
have always allowed time to beat myself up and question everything about whom,
why and how come I made the choices I have made. I questioned my manhood. I
questioned my dedication. I questioned everything but the truth. I was physically
unable to do it. The mental exhaustion from the physical limitations were impeding
my judgement. Admitting this would mean acknowledging I was not a man. I would
be unable to provide for my family. I was pushing myself closer to that dark spot. I
was getting down on myself. I had already pushed people away with my attitude and
misery. As each day passed, and I realized another person I had hurt or bad decision I
made, I became more distant and reclusive. More bitter, more angry and I could not
stop it. What I was failing to realize was I was already on the spiral slide down the
dark abyss to hell. I would go through this never ending cycle. The center of the
circle is pain and circling around it are depression, anger and anxiety. It was a never
ending cycle. Always in one of those dark places.
The pain, as is my leg, is gone. I am not sure how eight years of pain wound up
disappearing that quickly. The hard part
35. How Did Pope Sixtus Influence The Church
Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon were religious purists of the late
fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. These Spanish monarchs are accredited with
the atrocities that were perpetrated by the governmental and religious authorities in
Medieval Spain. Isabella and Ferdinand viewed the religious diversity in Spain,
increasingly consisting of Muslims, Jews, and New Christians, as harmful and
impure. Catholicism, the primary religion of the land and practice of the monarchs,
was becoming less powerful and less universal. Viewing this as unacceptable, Isabella
and Ferdinand brought the issue to the Pope, Sixtus IV. In response to the tenacious
pressuring from the two, Sixtus agreed to the purposefully vague terms of the Spanish

Pope Sixtus, the church authority who permitted the persecution, was a man of
luxury. Early on in his reign, he established himself as a Pope with expensive taste
and expansive vision. His churches throughout Italy served to put him in a favorable
light amongst the visionaries and upper class. Sixtus greatest achievement during his
reign was his commissioning of the world renowned Sistine Chapel. He
commissioned painters and architects to fill the illustrious ceilings with murals and
religious imagery to emphasize his prosperity. Sixtus obsession with the Papal
image was his major character flaw. His unyielding desire for extravagance was
what allowed his lapse in judgment to occur. The Pope not only had an opportunity
to cast out the notion of an Inquisition as soon as the proposition was brought forth,
he also had an opportunity to extinguish the movement after the realization that his
granted authority was being abused. His willingness to give in to political pressure
even when confronted by injustice is comparable to Pontius Pilate s reaction to Jesus
of Nazareth. Pilate, when the chief priests brought forth Jesus, was faced with the
decision of either displeasing his people, or crucifying a potentially innocent man.
Like Sixtus, instead of choosing the morally upright decision, Pilate chose the
socially and politically convenient choice and gave into the demands of the Jews and

Outline and Evaluate Models of Memory. (12 Marks)
There are roughly four models of memory in total, but two stand out and are used in
this particular specification.
Atkinson and Schifrin s (1968) Multi Store Model is one of them.
Their model suggests that the memory consists of three stores, a sensory store, a
short term store and a long term store; all three have a specific and relatively
inflexible function. It stressed that information for our environment such as the visual
or auditory and haptic (by touch) initially goes into the sensory memory or empirical
register. However, it has very limited capacity, and its duration is very brief, so if we
do not notice this much we would forget it, but if we pay attention to it or think ...

If we then decide to remember the information, it would then go back to the short
term memory where it would be rehearsed.
In the Long term memory, information is encoded as declarative semantic or
episodic according to Tulvig. It is also encoded as semantic memory as stated by
Baddeley. The only problem with this is that the test lacks ecological validity as it
was carried out in a laboratory, and that the study could be criticized in terms of
demand characteristics where the people involved could have already known what
results they were aiming for, in which case the results would be biased. There was
also experimenter bias, as the person involved already knew what he was aiming
for and didn t allow for natural course of events. Also the group was not a
representative of all the undergraduates tested. On a Positive note, the study has good
reliability as the group was partially quite big.
This study has been supported by several theories and psychologists as well as
statements.
The primacy effect supports this study, as it stresses that through research those who
had to recall a list of items, recalled the first ones and last ones better than those
through the middle as earlier items were rehearsed better and transferred to the Lon
term memory whilst later ones were in the short term memory. As it also suggests,
rehearsal was prevented by an interference task, meaning that the
38. Charter School Vs. Public Schools
Students Success
Why choose to go to Charter School rather than public school? Charter schools are
public school of choice, meaning families choose for their children. Federal
legislation provides grants to help charters to manage start up costs. They create
better educational opportunities for the students therefore they have higher
expectations in teaching. Charter Schools and zoned (public) schools are tuition free
but unfortunately not everyone can get in to Charter school, since it works by lottery.
Everyone has the opportunity to apply and has a choice to attend Charlet School if the
students are lucky enough to get in. Charter schools are more effective for three
reasons: they have higher graduation rates, teachers are more prepared and devoted to
their students, and teachers take a greater responsibility for their students as they
compete against Zoned Schools.
How important is it for a student to graduate? Isn t it a waste of time going to
school for twelve years and wasting all the government money and still not receive a
diploma? That is why students need to work harder to earn it and Charter schools are
the ones that offer students to become more educated. Joffee states, Charter schools
have higher API scores and graduation rates than traditional schools: Academically,
comparing LAUSD Alliance charter high schools to LAUSD traditional high schools
located in the same neighborhoods, we found the Alliance schools have decisively
higher API scores, 762 vs.
40. According To (Smith, 2012), Jetblue Was The Best-Funded
According to (Smith, 2012), JetBlue was the best funded startup in the history of U.S.
aviation established in 1999. The company started when the founder realized that
there are many needs to minimize the time taken by travelers to book their traveling.
Neeleman decided to utilize the technology to come up with a system that will enable
the customers to reduce their time that they use while waiting to be attended. The
founder of the airlinewas working with different carriers before deciding to come up
with JetBlue Company which come after the first fail. He was a great admirer of
Kelleher and Southwest, but he noted that there were two seemingly contradictory
forces at work if an airline could be successful.
The first thing was that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He said that they were a new kind of low fare airline with great people and
innovative thinking. They offer friendly services and they he was aiming at bringing
people back to air travel.
All this was just a way of coming up with a good strategy that the company could use
so that they can offer significant personal services, create a state of the art revenue
management system. From their strategy, the airline was focusing on offering a
single class of services to their customers with a fare averaging at 65% less than
the competition. Through taking this step, they could be utilizing all their
resources since no seat would remain ticketless. The ticket could be one way thus
relieving the travelers the burden of paying two ways of which would be one a
major challenge to them. The other strategy that the airline comes up with to
enhance their customer services was to give a voucher of $159 in the case of any
delay in flight for more than an hour for any reason apart from unfavorable weather
conditions or air traffic. They were also to give out a voucher of $25 for misplaced
bags. From these strategies that the airline built helped it to have more travelers
contributing to their development.
The other factor that leads to the success of the airline had adequate capital to start the
41. Goth Girls Research Paper
Do you see her? She went from normal to Goth. That s what people claimed of me
being, yet behind the scenes I was a victim of a sixth grade Friendswood Junior
High rumor. As an enthusiastic sixth grade student, I was anxious to meet new
people and make new friends. As I did I apparently fell into a category classified as
the Goth Girls group . As you can imagine I was not aware of it at the time and
perhaps uncomprehending of the overwhelming consequences of the entire scenario.
As an effect, I felt as though I was unintentionally throwing myself head over heels
into an outrageous environment of catastrophic social delirium as a student in my
new school. I eventually reached the conclusion that I was losing friends and I came

42. Entourage Research Paper
Entourage is an HBO sit com program that is centered around Hollywood A list star
Vincent Chase, his older half brother and down on his luck D list actor Johnny
Drama Chase, manager Eric E Murphy, and driver/fetch man Salvatore Turtle
Assante who rounds out the group of friends. All of these characters grew up in
Queens, New York and have a very tight bond, it s portrayed as a group of ultra
close friends who attempt to make the most out of Vince s Hollywood stardom and
the highs and lows that come with it. Rounding out the main cast is Ari Gold who is
Vince s smart, intimidating, and charismatic agent who always attempts to get what
he thinks is best for his client at any cost. According to website Pop Matters, HBO s
Entourage works as a sitcom because of the consistency and predictability of its
ensemble the titular team of 20 and 30 something guys that toil (often
unglamorously) in the background of a film star s life in order to ensure his
continued success and the resultant flow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vince is an A list movie star at such a young age and his entire squad knows how to
get members of the opposite sex. They manipulate, trick, and humiliate some of
these girls throughout the many seasons all to just have sexual relations with
them. On occasion there will be a handful of times that one of the characters likes a
girl enough to want to go out with her but 85% of the time if not more the boys are
just trying to hook up. This proves to be instrumental to an HBO program because
it sells the fantasy that most of us have grown up with of the American Dream .
This fantasy is proven to be that if we work hard enough we ll make enough
money and be able to have a pick of anybody that we want in the entire world as our
partner and we will ultimately be happy. This notion is also similar with the addition
of new HBO program
43. Cheese In The Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is a sporting event that is famous for producing funny and well
known advertisements. During the 2016 Super Bowl, Taco Bell released a
successful ad for a new food item. This product is known as the Quesolupa with its
key feature being a unique cheese filled shell. In the ad itself, it is first expressed
that cheese put inside a taco shell is a pretty big deal, in fact it is bigger than just
about everything. To express this, a series of clips follow the initial claim showing
just how big of a deal it really is. Some examples claim that this product from Taco
Bell is going to be a bigger deal than virtual reality, drones, or just the Internet as a
whole. Due to the large number of people of different demographics that watch...

This implied view is another reasons this commercial works so well. The idea behind
the advertising used here is once again not to tell the viewer what to do, but instead,
to create positive associations with the company and the product being sold.
Taco Bell likely had a great deal of success with this campaign. By having a funny
commercial that the target demographic could relate to, people will be influenced by
what they saw even if they don t know it, which in the end, is a sign of persuasion
being used

With an English accent and a smize, John Oliver hosts the show Last Week Tonight ,
which features Oliver comedically attacking various people or organizations. With
the use of rhetorical devices and satire, John Oliver comically conveys various ideas
regarding politics, faulty companies, and beauty pageants. In explanation of his ideas,
he frequently utilizes satirical techniques and rhetorical devices such as reductio ad
absurdum, incongruity, caricature, invectiveness, false/weak analogies, and logos to
explain his points.

In order to create a better understanding of the history of dialysis and healthcare,
Oliver scholarly explains, In 1972, something amazing happened. Richard
Nixon...signed a bill into law which said the government would pay for dialysis for
anyone that needed it... In order to make his explanations credible, Oliver
incorporates facts which increases his logos and ethos. To expand on the idea of
the kidneys being the sole organ which obtains government funded healthcare, he
declares with a picture of kidneys sitting in the snow of Canada, Your kidneys, and
only your kidneys are Canadian! This statement is another example of incongruity;
again, Oliver presents a statement which is contrasts greatly from the current
situation of which he is in. While he is discussing the role government plays in
dialysis, he delivers the idea of kidneys sitting in the snow of Canada, which assists
him in his argument of the government only providing healthcare coverage of the
kidneys. Just as the Times stated in their review of Oliver, [He] is willing to voice
genuine passion over his subjects , he voices his passionate displeasure towards
Trump in his President elect Trump segment. Oliver targets Trump on a specific
debate in which he was mistakenly unaware of the nuclear triad, and he critically
reveals, The components of the nuclear triad are important. It is unacceptable not to
be able to name every single one of them. They are
45. Cdp Lab Report
CDDP Induces Phosphorylation of TRAF6 Reducing Ubiquitination in the Cytosol
Genotoxic stresses are hypothesized to reduce K63 linked ubiquitination of p53
which would then cause TRAF6 to not be recruited. K63 linked ubiquitination of
p53 was assessed through stimulation with the genotoxic stress agent CDDP. To
test this hypothesis, an immunoprecipitation assay of mouse embryonic fibroblasts
(MEFs) was used to observe p53 ubiquitination in the cytosol of wild type and
TRAF6 knockout cells in the presence of CDDP for 4 hours. P53 was blotted as an
input to ensure presence. This assay shows that K63 linked ubiquitination of p53
was only observed in wild type MEFs in the cytosol indicating that TRAF6 is
necessary for K63 linked... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an immunoprecipitation assay, 293T cells testing wild type and mutated TQ/SQ
sites in TRAF6 was utilized to determine the effect of genotoxic agents on the
phosphorylation of TRAF6 at TQ/SQ motifs. The authors immunoprecipitated for flag
asTRAF6 was tagged with the flag antibody. CDDP and ATM/ATR were used as our
tested variables. The assay elucidated that the double mutation of S13 and T330 on
TRAF6 significantly reduced phosphorylation of TRAF6 in the presence of CDDP
and absence of ATM/ATR. Consequently, this data provides information for belief
that mutated TRAF6 is not sufficient for phosphorylation to occur in the presence of
CDDP. Finally, a cellular fractionation assay for 293T wild type and mutant TRAF6
cells with or without CDDP treatment tested whether such mutation in the presence of
genotoxic stress inhibits or promotes TRAF6 expression. As in the previous
fractionation studies, tubulin and laminB were loading controls. These results
concluded that the mutant displayed resistance to the CDDP mediated reduction of
TRAF6 in the cytosol. Overall, these studies suggest that CDDP induces
phosphorylation of TRAF6 in the cytosol, which may contribute to the reduction of
K63 linked ubiquitination in the cytosol. The information provided thus far suggests
that K63 linked ubiquitination of p53 is accomplished by TRAF6, which is
hypothesized to suppress spontaneous apoptosis. Moreover, genotoxic stress is shown
to promote TRAF6
