Structure Of Argumentative Essay
Writing an essay on the structure of an argumentative essay can be both challenging and
rewarding. On the surface, the topic might seem straightforward, as it involves outlining the
components of a specific type of essay. However, delving deeper reveals the intricacies of
crafting a compelling argument, organizing thoughts coherently, and presenting evidence
persuasively.
One of the initial challenges lies in understanding the fundamental elements of an argumentative
essay. This includes grasping the importance of a clear thesis statement, identifying reliable
sources for evidence, and acknowledging counterarguments. Balancing these elements while
maintaining a logical flow is crucial, and it requires a keen understanding of the topic at hand.
Moreover, the process involves selecting relevant evidence to support the main claims. This
requires thorough research and critical analysis to ensure the chosen sources are credible and
contribute effectively to the argument. The ability to synthesize information and present a
cohesive argument is a skill that demands time and practice to master.
Organizing the essay itself can be another hurdle. Determining the most effective sequence for
presenting ideas, transitioning between paragraphs, and ensuring a smooth progression of
thought can be challenging. The writer must consider the reader's perspective and anticipate
potential objections, addressing them strategically within the essay.
Additionally, crafting a compelling introduction and conclusion requires finesse. The
introduction must grab the reader's attention, provide context, and present a clear thesis
statement. Conversely, the conclusion should effectively summarize the main points, restate the
thesis, and leave a lasting impression. Achieving this balance is no easy feat.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the structure of an argumentative essay involves navigating
through various challenges. It demands a solid understanding of the components of effective
argumentation, the ability to find and synthesize relevant evidence, and the skill to organize
thoughts in a coherent and persuasive manner. However, mastering these challenges can lead to
the development of crucial writing and critical-thinking skills.

Sheltering Sky versus Blood Meridian Essay
Extreme circumstances bring about substantial changes in people. At least that is
what Paul Bowles and Cormac McCarthy seem to be saying in the writing of their
respective books, The Sheltering Sky and Blood Meridian. Both authors place their
characters in difficult locations, dealing with difficult people and expect them to
emerge changed, for better or for worse. In The Sheltering Sky, Bowles takes his
American trio and places them in the desert landsof the African continent where the
wide, dry impossibly desolate terrain takes its toll on their minds and bodies.
Likewise, McCarthy takes his ragged bunchof marauders, most prominently the Kid,
and has them wandering the massive expanse of the untamed west. This convention
of forced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both parties chance upon characters, both eccentric and dangerous, and all involved
seem to get themselves into the most impossible situations imaginable. Apparently
the point Bowles and McCarthy are trying to convey to the reader is that great change
and substantial inner growth can only come about through intense emotional stress
and physical challenge.
Kit, in The Sheltering Sky, learns some very interesting things about herself
through the course of our travels with her. She starts out as Port s wife, a secondary
character of sorts, afraid to voice her opinions on virtually everything. We have the
inside track on her thought s and feelings though, and are privy to the fact that she
is unhappy not only with her situation and current location, but also with her
marriage and identity. We get our first glimpse of her realization of these problems
on her train ride with Tunner, as Port is traveling with the Lyles. Her spontaneous
affair with Tunner is a symptom of her unhappiness and is the beginning of a
downward spiral that takes her to the brink of insanity and far beyond. We see the
beginning of her growth in her encounter in the Fourth Class cabin of the train when
see comes in close contact with the miserable peasant folk and she realizes that aside
from their cultural differences she is no better than these simple folk and in some
ways she is far worse. As her story progresses we, the reader, get to see the progress
of her downfall due to the
Abraham Lincoln s Letter From Birmingham Jail
1.Discuss three things that connect Lincoln and King through these writings
When first getting this assignment, I thought it would be difficult to compare
Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Speech and Martin Luther King Jr. s letter from
Birmingham jail seemed like they would be very different. I thought this because of
how much time passed between both of these writings and since both individuals had
such different agendas, at least that s what I thought. After the reading I did find
many underlying similarities. Starting with the most obvious one, right off the bat, I
noticed that both Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. incorporate their
faith into their writings. In Lincoln s speech and MLK s letters, I noticed many
quotes taken from the bible. In MLK s letter he went a step further and
incorporated not just his own faith and what he believed, but other faith and
religions as well. In the Second Inaugural Address, Lincoln said, Both read the same
Bible, and pray to the same God . He then went on and stated from the bible let us
judge not that we be not judged . This comes from Matthew 7.1, and basically what
is meant is that the we should think of ourselves first, as individuals ... Show more

The main reason they are so different is because of the initial agenda behind these
writings. Lincoln s agenda for his Inaugural Speech was to enlighten citizens of the
hard times ahead and how we as citizens need to come together as one. Martin
Luther King Jr. s writing was intended to enlighten people of his side of the world,
which evolves discrimination, hatred and inequality. Unlike Lincolns, MLK was not
trying to get the readers ready for what was to come, but rather for what should
come. He was sharing his side of the story. Lincoln was not sharing a story but rather
the facts of what the civil war brought, which was dividing the
The Reality Of British Television Programs
When thinking of British television programs, it is impossible for one not to think of
the international hit, Doctor Who. Originally debuting in 1963 under the British
Broadcasting Corporation, Doctor Who included an upperclass white male playing
the lead character along side another white male and two white females. Doctor Who
aired during the 1960 s when Great Britain was still recovering from the
destruction of World War II and was also facing the reality that they were not the
world power they once were. Also, large influx of immigrations were entering
Great Britain during this period. Class, gender, and racial prejudices were
extremely prevalent within society and Doctor Who was no exception. Yet
eventually attitudes change and the producers of the show understood that to
remain relevant within popular culture, they would also need to change. Even
though, Doctor Who has made strives over the past five decades to create a more
inclusive television program, they still lack in accurate representation of society.
During the 1960 s, Great Britain was coming to terms with the decline of their once
massive empire as well as overall lose of world power. The United States of America
and the Soviet Union were now the dominating powers, leaving Great Britain
frustrated. That is where media stepped in the help counteract this fact. British
television and films were made to demonstrate the power and knowledge of the
kingdom with the James Bond series and the Avengers. Doctor
Literary Devices In Hills Like White Elephant
Ernest Hemingway was an American novelist who was credited with having a
major impact on the fictional writings of the 20th century. His writings have
influenced many people through his life experiences seen throughout many of his
stories. In Hills like White Elephants Hemmingway uses multiple literary devices
throughout the story. Three of these devices are imagery, symbolism, and a
metaphor. Hemmingway uses imagery in his story when he calls his girlfriend a
jig. A jig is a device use to trick someone just like the man feels happened to him.
The American feels that the woman is using the baby as a jig for them to stay
together. By having the two different stances on decision it creates a conflict that is
going to make one have to give in and accept the others option. According to Howard
Hannum, Jig expresses all too well what the girl had meant to the American. This
statement is true because she is trying her best to stay away from talking about
abortion even though it is clear that the American wants her to get one.... Show more

Symbolism is the use of a symbol to represent something else. Hemmingway uses
colors as a way to symbolize the happiness one feels and the bitterness of another.
According to Lewis weeks color symbol involving black of licorice and the
whiteness of the hills suggests the contrast between sorrow and joy (75). This
shows how in the story the woman feels happy that she is pregnant but at the same
time is upset due to the fact that the American wants her to get the procedure done.
Hemmingway also uses color symbolism when talking about the setting of the story.
He says, The hills across the valley of Ebro were long and white. On this side there
was no shade and no trees and the station was between two lines of rails in the sun

Symbolic Interactionism In Sound And Fury
In this paper I will be introducing three key themes in this course that we have
covered throughout the year that specifically tie into the film Sound and Fury These
themes include the self, experiencing emotionality, and symbolization. This paper
will furnish a comprehensive analysis of the film in relation to the themes outlined.
Society uses symbolic interactionismthrough interacting on an everyday basis by
understanding the workings of the world. There are different paradigms that we use
through our sociological thought process. Through these paradigms they help us
conceptualize what is taking place in life.
Symbolic Interactionist approach falls between meaning making and socio cultural

Peter speaks to the principal and says back in my home town there is a huge
hearing community and they are in charge and give them orders, but they do not
understand our deaf culture. There was a lot of deaf awareness in Maryland. Peter
mentioned that he feels inspired there. He said when I am in the deaf world I feel
safe, when I am in the hearing world I feel like I m locked up in jail, and held back
. So Peter and his wife decided to move to Maryland. What is particularly
interesting in both of these scenes and what we have learned throughout the course
is that there is an emotional significance to identification because our self esteem is
bound by identification and a sense of belonging. With this, we are always
comparing ourselves with other groups, and the reason that we do this is to
maintain our self esteem. Once two groups identify themselves as separate, and
rivals, and then they start to compete in order to maintain our sense of self and self
esteem. This is one of the key aspects when understanding the self and social
identity. There are two rivals here, one is the deaf world, and another is the
hearing world. Peter had stated before that in his hometown he feels that the
hearing world is in charge and they give orders. This is just one example of how
Peter is visibly threatened by the hearing world. His identity is being deaf. So the
natural decision for him and his family would be to move to a town which has a
better understanding and acceptance of deaf culture which specifically relates to the
deaf identity that Peter and his Family
Essay on Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson
President Woodrow Wilson s legacy of being a peace keeping president has lasting
impression on the United States. From his great intellect and progressive reform,
to the tragedy of the Great War and his hope for peace, Wilson was a strong leader
through it all. Decades after his death, he is still remembered as the man that he
was: an ethical and caring person who desperately wanted to better the world. It was
in the beginning of the 20th century when this man finally left his mark on our
country which not only made him a significant historical figure, but also a hero and
a man who worked hard to make the time he lived in his. Born in Virginia in 1856,

An important aspect that signified Woodrow Wilson as a prominent historical
figure was the Great War and his crusade for peace. When the Great War began,
Wilson tried to put an end to it, but neither side budged. Even though it seemed the
war would go on for a while, Wilson believed he could still end it and eventually all
wars in general (Brands 51). By the time the U.S. had entered the war (1917),
Wilson was still determined to end the war for all wars. He created the 14 Points,
which outlined the terms for the Treaty of Versailles, as well as the League of Nations
which intended to reinforce peace in the world through diplomacy (Brands 60). In
any case, almost every one of Wilson s decisions had an underlying theme of peace
to them and that is what he was remembered for. On the home front, Wilson was
also known as a Progressive because he changed the conditions in society at the
time. He passed laws which limited the age of workers to 16, and even helped
farmers improve their farms in the Farm Loan Act (Brands 87). Overall, Wilson
felt that it was his duty to better the world, from home to all the way overseas. Even
though some believed that he was too idealistic and not realistic in terms of his
views, he still did the world a lot of good. Ending the Great War, creating the 14
Points, forming the League of Nations, being a Progressive, and fighting for world
peace were the main contributions that Wilson made which we now look back upon as
Core Competencies For Healthcare Professionals
My Leadership SMART Goal
The Institute of Medicine has defined five core competencies for healthcare
professionals. These competencies are to provide patient centered care, work in inter
professional teams, employ evidence based practice, apply quality improvement, and
utilize informatics. (Finkelman, 2012, p. 214). Nurse leaders recognize that the need
to put the patient first is at the heart of patient centered care and is significant in all
aspects of nursing care. Patient centered care incorporates collaboration with the
patient and family and takes into consideration cultural diversity or issues that will
affect the patient s ability to manage and maintain their health. Keeping the lines of
communication open with our patients involves assuring that they are kept abreast of
their health management and provided with up to date education to help them utilize
measures to maintain their health. As nurses we are accountable to our patients and
need to stay current with our own education and commit to lifelong learning (Fights,
2012) to be sure we are passing on up to date and relevant information. Acquiring
certification is an important way of validating our practice and proving our
commitment to providing quality patient centered care. Fights challenges us to ask
ourselves if we are committed to lifelong learning or furthering our education.
Signing up at Chamberlain to obtain my BSN was an important step for me but I will
not let this be the end of learning.

Essay about Daniel Keys Flowers For Algernon
CHARLY
The book Flowers For Algernon , by Daniel Keys was written in 1961. Later,
Richard Heynes decided to produce the movie in 1968 properly called Charly .
There are both similarities and differences between the two. However, the differences
play a more crucial role between the two rather then the similarities.
One major difference between the movie and book is the events that took place. One
example is when Charly met Fay. This never happened in the movie. But in the
movie, when he met her he let all of his inner feeling out into the open and had a
great time. In the movie he only went away for awhile and even then he only had
what seemed to be a few short flings. With Fay, Charly was able express himself to...

Donner s bakery he was never harassed by the new employee. This was when Joe
Carp and the other realized that Charly was back to his old self. Joe Carp roughed up
the bully and got him fired for his actions directed at Charly.
Another major difference between the book and movie is the traits and actions
taken by the characters. One example is Alice Kinnian. In the story, she is depicted
as a quiet, non aggressive person, but in the movie she is very much the opposite
in character. For one, she never really made a move towards Charly, however, in
the movie, she is the more aggressive between the two. Also, towards the end of the
movie, Alice asked Charly to marry her and that never even happened in the novel
at all. Charly is another character who is given different traits and actions in the
movie then the book. In the book, he is a kind, warm hearted man who couldn t
harm a fly. Believe it or not in the movie Charly tried to sexually assault Alice. In
the book he never ever would have tried to do such a horrible thing to Alice. Also,
he got very upset when he found out that he failed one of the tests given to him at
the laboratory. He could have cared less if he failed in the book. Charly s family is
something else that was never mentioned in the movie, and it s probably the most
important difference of them all. It is the most important because of the fact that
when Charly went to visit his family, it brought to him a great deal of happiness
Lowell Girls Case Study Answers
Lowell Girls
Lowell Girls Background Information
In 1821, the Boston Manufacturing Company under Francis Cabot Lowell built a
textile factory in Waltham, Massachusetts . The next step to achieve economic
success was to establish a workforce. The workers at the manufacturing center could
not be children, but did not need to be strong to use the machinery, yet had to be
smart to completely understand the method to effectively create products with the
mechanisms. The solution for Lowell s ideal personnel was to hire young
unmarried women to work in the mills. These women were recruited from 10 years
old to middle age throughout rural New England and were called Lowell Mill Girls.

Employment in the factories allowed the women to gain a sense of freedom, as they
were free from parental authority, had time to attain information for a better
education, and able to earn money. This freedom was viewed as a threat to the
societal norm in the United States. Women were typically restricted in society,
making the actions of the Mill Girls extremely meaningful. Other people perceived
the factory system as a form of slavery and helped fight against long hours and
working conditions faced by the women. Textile mills that were run by the Lowell
Girls were key to saving America during economic crisis when there were not any
other methods to manufacture products. The women s impact on the economy was
indisputable when they went on strike to demand better working conditions. The
textile industry came to a complete stop, pressuring factory owners to grant the Mill
Girls requests. The amount of change over time in society concerning the treatment
of women was evident after the Lowell movement. The women that challenged
companies for labor reforms were the same women that were not independent and
could not vote in society. These girls were able to voice their concerns and opinions
through newspapers, strikes, and the Factory Girls
Dimensional Fund Advisors Case Study
Dimensional Fund Advisors is an investment consulting firm, founded by David
Booth in the year 1981. Mr. Booth was a Ph.D. student at the business school and
one of Professor Eugene Fama s students, a professor who came up with the efficient
market hypothesis. Mr. Booth believes in the soundness of the hypothesis that he
says the financial crunch supplied further proof and support of market efficiency as
far as publicly traded stocks and bonds are involved, but he cautioned that the idea
should not be extended to other areas of the financial market and its managers make
money by applying this strong belief.
The efficient market hypothesis states that financial markets are profitable and that the
prices in the stock market already embed all familiar information regarding a stock or
other security and that the prices adjust quickly to new information which includes
current and future expectations about a stock. It further explains that if all needed
information concerning the investment is known, it will be difficult for any investor
to outperform the market since he/she will be working with the same information as
everyone else. Also, that it is impossible to consistently beat the market by stock
picking.
However, Dimensional investment consulting firm make their money by
concentrating their efforts on what matters and managing a wide range of strategies

Summary Of Women In The Thousand And One Nights
The Thousand and One Nights, is a frame tale. A frame tale means that there are
stories within stories, and all the tales included have a connection in one way or
another. Some of the en framed stories in The Thousand and One Nights portray
women as being submissive to their men and always eager to please what their
men desire of them. Also, in some of the tales they are looked at as simply mere
objects, having near no value, and having no rights. However, the narrator,
Shahrazad, differs from these women by using her courage and power against King
Shahrayar, to save not only her life, but risking it to save those of other women.
In The Thousand and One Nights, we encounter wives that are cheaters, disobedient
and concubines just wanting to please the men. For example, this frame tale opens up
with the story of King Shahrayar and Shahrazad, the daughter of the King s vizier.
King Shahzaman sees his wife committing adultery. Seeing his wife do such an act,
made him have no respect for woman, as shown when he said, No. Women are not to
be trusted (The Thousand and One Nights 557). After this encounter, he kills her
and the kitchen boy, who was the person that she was committing adultery with, and
decides to leave the city and go with his brother, Shahrayar, who was living in India
and Indochina. When he arrived to his brother s palace, they conversed and enjoyed
each other s presence for a couple of days until his brother decided to take a ten day
hunt. Shahzaman stayed at
Phenomenal Woman By Maya Angelou
The author of Phenomenal Woman, Maya Angelou is a jack of many trades. This
multi talented woman is not only an award winning author and poet, but also an
actress, screenwriter, dancer, and civil rights activist (Maya par 2). Maya Angelou s
amazing gift of writing was so powerful and inspirational. Although she no longer
walks the earth, her works continue to live on and be the food for our souls. She was
truly a living example of the phenomenal and confident person that we should all
strive to be. In the poem Phenomenal Woman, Maya Angeloulets us know that it is
not what we look like. It is how we carry ourselves. We should have a sense of
shamelessness about ourselves. We should be shameless and confident, no one can
take away our pride, and they cannot do anything but respect us for it.
Maya Angelou had a way of expressing her feelings and experiences through her
writing. This poem was a beautiful example of her doing just that. In the first
stanza, she writes using strong imagery to where I can immediately visualize the
setting of the poem. I pictured the setting to be a formal event where Maya
Angelou herself is walking into the venue, making a grand entrance that had all
eyes on her. When I read the excerpt, I m not cute or built to suit a fashion model s
size (Maya 2), I instantaneously thought of the era Maya Angelou endured that her
body type was not socially accepted. It was an era when being a black woman was far
from being envied. Women with similar

It is stated by McInerney McInerney that Overemphasis on one type of developmental
readiness such as reading readiness, for example may preclude learners from
demonstrating that they are more capable in other areas of performance (McInerney,
D.M McInerney, V. 2002) Therefore the same theory would apply to a student having
physical developmental readiness. Through physical activity students grow their
motor skills and enables them to utilise them in learning environments such as the
class room. In kindergarten students the motor skills would be a lot less developed
that that if a year 6 student, so when planning a physical activity this needs to be
taken into account. The benefits of implementing physical activity into the
curriculum of students are not only a valuable asset to the students health and well
being, but also to their learning development. Physical activity promotes healthy
growth and development of the cardio respiratory system, enabling oxygen to travel
throughout their bodies helping with healthy muscle and bone growth in children.
Physical activity also promotes social health benefits in children giving them more

Neither the life of an Individual nor the history of a Society can be understood

sociology. Every human live in a society, Sociology is the systemic study of human
society and relationships on a group level. And also it allows looking on the big

Being a great philosopher he got interested in studying sociology and he focused
on the study of society which is called sociology . During the days when August
Comte started discovering more about sociology, he found out that there is a
system called Positivism . Positivism means checking or testing if a social method
works on human social behavior and sees how societies are structured. His efforts
led to the development of sociology among the people. He kept on trying to
promote his idea around the world. He died due to stomach cancer in Paris on

August Comte there was another person with the exact opposite idea about
sociology. William George Spencer s son Herbert Spencer was born in Derby,

The Feminization Of Poverty Trend And Black And White...
To address and answer the question being asked in this paper, I could use the same
methodology Low talks about in his paper. To be able to answer how much the
feminization of poverty trend and black and white inequality trend can explain the
U.S wealth distribution, I would use the same regression model lows uses. Instead
of just looking at blacks versus whites, I will look at female headed households
versus male headed household too. Similar to Low s paper, I will use the Binder
Oaxaca decomposition to document the difference in wealth earnings if male
headed households receives the female variables and vice versa. I hope to find that
some of the wealth distribution can be explained by the variable differences
between the male and female headed household. I expect the difference will only
be noticeable towards the bottom of the distribution, probably below top 50%. The
difference in median household incomes between whites and blacks has grown
from about $19,000 in 1967 to roughly $27,000 in 2011. Median black household
income was 59% of median white household income in 2011, up modestly from
55% in 1967; as recently as 2007, black income was 63% of white income. As of
2015, relative to the average hourly wages of white men with the same education,

So far this century, more than a quarter of all Inuit deaths in Nunavut have been
suicide: twenty seven percent, which is one of the highest suicide rates in the
world. For Canada s first nation s population, suicide rates are twice the national
average. In both indigenous groups, females attempt suicide more than males. The
ratio of aboriginal suicides is a 3:2 ratio which is significantly higher than the
Canadian suicide average. Young adults ages 15 24 form the age group with the
most suicides which is surprisingly, five to seven times the Canadian average.
Particularly, there are broad based inequalities on many across all areas of children s

The Progressive Era Of The United States
George F. Will once said, The United States is a successful nation that is constantly
susceptible to melancholy because things are not perfect. During the 1880 s to the
1920 s this statement seemed to be true about America but this sadness was not seen
from the outside. The Progressive Era brought out these issues and made everyone
aware of them. This era was a period in the United Statesthat consisted of social
activism and political reforms. The importance of this era was the passing of labor
laws, anti trustlaws, unionization for important industries and the introduction of four
new amendments in the constitution.
Children have been servants throughout human history. Employers were taking
advantage of children by making them work very long days and work in dangerous
conditions. Children laborers also lacked an education due to the long hours they
worked. Children worked to help support families but yet got very little pay.
Reformers and labor organizers wanted to restrict children labor and improve the
working conditions. Most Americans would never agree, they wanted adults to run
the work world and rather give any available job to an adult than a child. The
education reformers battled the vast majority of America because of their opinions on
child education. (I. Yellowitz) After a while, primary school education was a
necessity. This education would improve their self fulfillment and the advancement
of the United States. The Fair Labor Standards Act was designed
Positive And Negative Impacts Of The Industrial Revolution
Prior to the Industrial Revolution manufacturing was mostly produced within people
s homes using hand tools and basic machines. The Industrial Revolution began in
Britain in the late 1700s, and spread to other countries throughout Europe and
America. The Industrial Revolution caused many different positive and negative
impacts. It was a period of time in which rural areas became industrialized and urban.
Instead, of using hand tools and basic machines, new technology and inventions
enabled people to start using special purpose machinery. Factories played a key role
in the Industrial Revolutionbecause the high demand for workers created job
opportunities for many people. New machinery in factories was quick and efficient
for mass productionof items. The Industrial Revolution led to urbanization and
population growth. People wanted to live closer to the factories they worked at.
Despite the many positive effects of
Industrialization, it also had many negative impacts also. The population increased
rapidly and caused overcrowding in many urban areas. Living conditions in cities
were unsanitary and caused many health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Child labor fueled the Industrial Revolution. In (Document 1) Sadler a mill
worker states the he had started working in the mills at 10 years old. Most children
started working in factories or mines as young as seven years old. Factories found
it easier and more beneficial to hire children because they could be payed less,
were small and quick, and easier to control. The working conditions in factories
were terrible also. In (Document 13) Hebergram a mill worker has been told he will
die within a year because of the dust in factories and from overwork. Workers had
to work long hours with no breaks in between. Factories were filled with unsafe
machinery that usually resulted in losing a limb or your life. In addition factories
were not kept clean so it was easy for diseases to get passed
The Drinking Age Of 21
The drinking age in America should be lowered from 21 to 18. At 18, someone in
America is legally considered an adult, and they can indulge in things that are
potentially far more harmful than alcohol. Under certain circumstances, alcohol
has already been permitted for people under the age of 21. Furthermore, the
drinking age of 21 is ineffective because people between the ages of 18 to 21 are
still drinking regardless. However, this drinking often takes the shape of dangerous
binge drinking. Many college deans, who have first hand knowledge of how
ineffective the current drinking age is, are in support of a lower drinking age.

Joining the army puts someone s life on the line. These are all serious actions that
have serious consequences.
America draws the line at drinking alcohol, which belittles 18 year olds, making
them seem less like adults. Someone could risk his or her life for his or her
country, or wreck his or her body with cigarettes, but drinking alcohol is forbidden.
Some states agree that this logic is flawed, such as Alaska, who passed a bill that
allows active members of the military to drink at the age of 18, with the rationale
that if they re old enough to fight and die for their country, they re old enough to
have a beer, (Brown). Being in the army is not the only time that there has been an
exception for the drinking age in America. Many young children and teenagers
have had wine during communion at Church, or during other religious ceremonies

Persuasive Essay On Community College
Every semester there is a fight to find a parking space on campus. I began
Northshore Technical Community College in the fall of 2014 at the Hammond area
campus. With enrollment increasing rapidly, Northshore relocated the business
department to the North campus of Southeastern Louisiana University campus in
the spring of 2016. There is limited parking for freshmen. The parking area, we can
use is assigned to the overflow of the upper classmen. Even though driving a car to
campus is convenient, riding a bicycle to school is a more practical option for some
commuter college students since of the amount of parking spaces available to
students are limited.
Parking is not only an issue for Southeastern Louisiana University, consequently is

The Natural Resource Of Natural Resources
1.1Background and Introduction Over the last decade, the term natural resource
curse has gained importance among resource rich countries; it claims that natural
resource wealth is linked to poor economic growth (Sachs Warner, 2001). In other
words, countries with an abundance of natural resources are less developed and
tend to grow slower than resource poor countries (Sachs Warner, 2001). It may seem
that having plenty of natural resources is a gift, yet the fact is economic growth in
countries like Indonesia and Nigeria do not actually show that the profusion of
natural resources are a blessing (The Economist, 2000). Expectation to have a high
growth economy because of being rich in natural resources has gone. In fact, natural
resources have been causing many major conflicts to those resource rich countries in
terms of economics, international relations, and environment (Ross, 2003). Looking
back on Indonesia s history, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for 3.5 centuries,
the reason was simply because Indonesia is rich of natural resources, due to the
limitations of natural resources, especially herbs and spices back in Netherlands
(Cribb, n.d.). During that time the Dutch tried to get the natural resources as much as
they could without considering the welfare of the Indonesian (Cribb, n.d.). Indonesia
had been freed from the Dutch and Japanese, yet, until today after 65 years of
attaining independence, the country has not been able to liberate its people
Cabbage Vendor By Natasha Trethewey Summary
I.Analysis of Cabbage Vendor by Natasha Trethewey from Domestic Work
In Cabbage Vendor written by Natasha Trethewey, a woman talks about her
gardening and cooking of cabbage. She seems to be selling some of her cabbage to
a man and his first request is that he wants everything to be natural. He watches her
through a peep hole as she gets the cabbage together for the man. The cabbage made
me think as if she is getting herself together for the man. This sounds like a type of
symbolism as if he was admiring her, but he wants her to be a natural woman. In
America, most men want the woman that they are with to be natural in every way
and still be beautiful. Although the woman might be beautiful natural, some woman
feel beautiful once their beauty is enhanced by something. Beauty can be enhanced
by makeup, hair relaxers, and even plastic surgery. Therefore, for a man to want
you to be natural, you cannot have any make up, hair relaxers, and definitely not
any plastic surgery. In Cabbage Vendor written by Natasha Trethewey, a man uses
symbolism to express his wants of a natural woman and a woman just wants to add a
little spice in her life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What does the man want from her in the long run? How can she benefit the man?
These are both things men normally think about when choosing a lady they admire.
In the beginning of the poem, the man seemed to be just a costumer, but he began
watching her. This could have been what some pesky costumers do, but I saw it as
more than that. He saw how she carried herself and began to see her as more. Instead
of watching how she handled the food, he watched

What Is The Difference Between Italy And The United States
Imagine if you are an American in Rome, the most beautiful city in Italy. You see
breath taking monuments, but you also see a huge crowd, and many people
speaking, obviously Italian, but also a lot of foreign languages, considering that
there are a lot of tourists. There are two very interesting facts about these two
countries: did you know that for every mile square mile in Italy there is an artwork?
Did you know that the United States of America are 30 times bigger than Italy and
have 5.5 times the population?
Even though both Italy and the United States enjoy food in similar ways, they are
quite different. Italy is centered around food. The United States. The food is different

Physician Assisted Suicide Essay example
In today s society, one of the most controversial issues is physician assisted suicide
for the terminally ill. Many people feel that it is wrong for people, regardless of
their health condition, to ask their health care provider to end their life; while others
feel it is their right to be able to choose how and when they die. When a physician is
asked to help a patient into death, they have many responsibilities that come along
with that single question. Among those responsibilities are: providing valid
information as to the terminal illness the patient is suffering, educating the patient as
to what their final options may be, making the decision of whether or not to help the

After one minute, an automatic timer closed the pentothal line and released the
contents of the third bottle. Adkins heart stopped beating within six minutes.

Economic Impact On Australia s Economy And Society
The changing land use via the construction of the new Crown Resort in Sydney
harbour yields a majority of negative implications on the environment, Australia s
economy, and society. The effect on the environment, including air and water
pollution, and the deconstruction of the working harbour, is detrimental to health
and well being. The social implications include the effect on gamblers individual
lives and the lives of social housing occupants, as well as the impact casinos have on
Australia s international profile. The economy is affected because it widens the
economic gap between rich and poor and changes the area via the changing of
residents due to high rates catering to wealthy tourists.

Church Service Paper
For this assignment I attended a church service at Our Savior Lutheran Church in
Plantation. Walking into the church there are rows of pews, and at the end of the isle
stands the alter, to the left, there was a candle, which signifies the presence of the
Holy Spirit. Above the alter hung a cross, which symbolizes the life, death, and
resurrection of JesusChrist. In a Protestant church one will never see a crucifix,
which means they do not have the body of Jesus hanging on the cross. The reason for
this is because Protestants focus on the resurrection of Jesus and the complete work
of Christ. In other branches of Christianity, like Catholicism, one can find a crucifix
because Catholicism focuses on Jesus death (Patheos). Surrounding the alter were

Market analysis with direct competitor in the region suggests that studio prices are at
least 21% lower and one bedroom suite prices are at least 40% lower than the
competition in the new pricing model. Comparison with the general market suggests
similar findings. MAIN REPORT
In May 2006, Westmount Retirement Residence was having very low profitability.
Its very simple pricing model essentially charged each resident the same price per
month regardless of their needs. This was due to a change in the patientsВґ demands.
In the past, patientsВґ demands were similar and therefore the companyВґs pricing
and costing system was appropriate. But changes in the population and in the
requirements of the residents caused that the pricing model remained out of date and
the costing system inappropriate. One of the problems observed when analyzing the
companyВґs situation was that due to the costing system used it was not possible to
have a clear picture of how much each of the services offered were costing.
Consequently, it was clearly very difficult being able to define a pricing system that
will give the shareholders the desired profit. The first step was to design a new
costing system adequate for the company

A customer would probably not be expected to pay for goods purchased using this

Usually, these remaining uncertainties can be accounted for by estimating and
recording allowances for anticipated returns and bad debts, thus allowing revenue
and related costs to be recognized at point of delivery. But occasionally, an abnormal
degree of uncertainty causes point of delivery revenue recognition not to be
appropriate. Revenue recognition after delivery sometimes is appropriate for
installment sales and when a right of return exists.
Judgment Case 5 3
Mega should recognize revenue for the initial fee equally over the estimated average
period members will continue to be members. Even though the fee is nonrefundable,
it is not earned until services are provided. Since there is no contractual period of
service, it must be estimated. Mega would be justified in recognizing only $3 of the
initial fee immediately to offset the cost of the membership card. The payment option
chosen by members does not affect the revenue recognition policy.
The monthly fee should be recognized as revenue upon billing, as long as adequate
provision is made for possible uncollectible amounts.
Judgment Case 5 4
The revenue recognition policy is questionable. The liberal trade in policy causes
gross profit to be overstated on the original sale and understated on the trade in sale.
This results from the granting

A Joint Venture Between Nora And Sakari
The negotiations for a joint venture between Nora and Sakari have been taking
place for over two years and 20 meetings. Meeting locations have varied, but have
been held in both of the firm s respective countries of Helsinki and KL. So far, the
meetings sunk costs in promoting the JV between the two companies are estimated at
RM3 million.
There are mutual benefits for a cooperative effort. The main benefit for Sakari
would be to meet its strategy of expanding R D centres in to South east Asia which
is a market of unexploited potential. They would be to meet this strategy if they
gained access through Malaysia. Nora s main benefit would be able to fulfill its TMB
contract since its bid was reliant on providing Sakari s 4G LTE technology (XX).
Despite the benefits that would occur due to the agreement the negotiation efforts
failed to reach a JV agreement between the two entities. Some of the major reasons
for negotiation failure were due to difference in goals, negotiation and interaction
styles, cultural differences and behaviors, and lack of trust.
GOALS, NEGOTIATION AND INTERACTION STYLES
Their approaches to negotiation and objectives were very different for each party.
Nora went in with an integrative negotiation strategy since they had already won their
bid based on using Sakari s 4G technology and having a successful agreement would
be important in fulfilling the contract with TGMXX. The were interested in creating

The Bureaucracy Of The Industrial Revolution Essay
Be a leader is inspiring, managing and depending on the performance of the team
to be promote. That is why the theories of leadership evolve form bureaucracy to
post bureaucracy. The bureaucracy style is the oldest model, created by Taylor and
Ford on the begging of the industrial revolution the leadership is more related with
managerialism and autocratic() On the other hand and the post bureaucracy is new
model, it is more related with empower the employee and make him make de
decision. In this model the company cares and development the employee (asdasd).
For a leader it is necessary both characteristic to adapt to different situations. The
differences between the styles affect the behavior of the followers and the
performance of the company ().What most influences the leaders? Is the bureaucracy
better than post bureaucracy for the employees? Is post bureaucracy behavior more
manipulative?
The leadership style from bureaucracy is more authoritarian than post bureaucracy.
One example is Ford. He segmented the entire production in smaller steps to
facilitate the production. On the other hand he demanded the most of all labors.
What the leaders say is one order, the order of a leader was a wish and sometimes
related as a god (article). There was no discussion about the resolution and how it is
going to be development. In contrast, the leaders from post bureaucracy express
more concerns about the effects of decision. The decision is make where is supposed
to be done.(

Examples Of The Truman Show
The Truman show is a story about a man named Truman Burbank, a normal man
that doesn t realize his entire life is staged, fake and streaming live every moment
of every day. Within the first few minutes of the movie starting you think
everything is perfect in Truman s fake world with is nice welcoming neighbors,
friendly businessman and people around him. What you don t know and realize is
that Truman s 1950 s utopia is scripted and controlled by another mini village of
people behind the scenes of the world s largest studio ever built. Everything seems
to be perfect for Truman, he has a successful job as an insurance sale mans with a
sweetheart wife who is also a nurse and his best friend from childhood who loves to
stop by at random time with a cold six pack in hand to help distract Truman and
keep him on track. However, Truman is a smart man and slowly starts to see things

norm even if those times have changed and evolved into what we have today.
While these values and ideology are scripted and staged around Truman to him it s
his norm as strange as some of the choreographing may be. However, the viewers
of the show while may not be able to relate to his norm they do idolize Truman;
wishing they could be part of his norm in which Truman has been socialized too.
Truman shows how even once injected with paranoia how we as a society have to
discover the truth at any cost. Even how the product placement was injected into the
Truman s life as corny as it was; it was a necessary evil for the show to produce

Gulliver s Travels Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Swift in this section of the story in a way gives up on humankind, he has no respect
for them and explains humans as brutal and irrational. Swift tells the story through
Gulliver s eyes and uses satire, irony, and critiques human nature on many levels. He
is unable to fit in with either species since one is irrational and erratic and the other is
overly rational and gullible. Human nature has somewhat both of these characteristics
with using violence and intelligent techniques to improve life and society.
Swift begins his story with Gulliver being overran by his shipmates and left on an
unknown island. On this island he comes across these outrageous creatures that have
no self control and begin defecating all over the place after he hits ... Show more

He uses these techniques to prove the absurd nature of his characters in the story.
A lot of authors have criticized Swift s story of Gulliver s Travels for his use of
irony and satire to make fun of society and human behavior. Kathleen Williams said
It is clear, both from the satires and the religious writings, that Swift was hostile to
all doctrines of the natural self sufficiency of man (pg 275). The writings of Swift
can have most societies question their own behaviors and relate somewhat to the
insane nature of human behavior. Swift makes people question themselves in this
story to who are you are you a yahoo or houyhnhnms, the negative part is that both
are not good.Swift also clearly shows the negative nature in his expression of the
yahoos but it can be unclear, and open for opinion if he writes the houyhnhnms as
positive characters. Mary believes Swift shares Gulliver s love of the houyhnhnms
and his hatred of mankind for its failure to achieve houyhnhnms rationality (pg.
1153). Swift s character Gulliver seems upset that he cannot be one of the
houyhnhnms and they do not accept them into society, they believe he may be a
more modest yahoo but a yahoo all in the same. This is why in the end he still
cannot accept the fact that he is a yahoo and repels his own family to talk to horses.
He can t get out of his head even though the houyhnhnms are not reality that he is not
one of them
Racial Disparities And Gender Disparities
When it comes to healthcare racial disparities continue to be an ongoing issue. In
fact racial disparities have been a topic of discussion since desegregation. The US
Department of Health and Human Services, in 1984 published a report that called
attention to the healthcare disparities. The report was called Heath, United States
1983(Dougher, 2015). Within the context of the report there lies a passage that
describes the major disparities that are within the burden of illness and death that is
experienced by African Americans and other minorities, despite significant progress
in the overall health of the nation (Dougher, 2015). It was evident that there was a
serious lack of health care minorities. Low income neighborhoods are still witnessing
a rising gap in healthcare coverage. For example, patients with diabetes are more
likely to undergo limb amputation than those in higher income areas (Pearl, 2015).
Also, research has shown the Caucasians women have and overall incidence of breast
cancer that is higher than that of African Americanwomen (Williams, Mohammed,
Leavell, Collins, 2010). On the contrary there is a higher death rate of breast cancer
in African American women than in Caucasians women.
African American women are diagnosed with breast cancer at a rate of one in ten.
Caucasian women see a rate of 1 in 8 however, 1 in 31 African American women are
found die from their illness where 1 in 37 Caucasian die from breast cancer (ASPCS,
2014). These numbers are
The Pros And Cons Of Career Politicians
In today s politics, political candidates will do anything to please their constituents
and persuade them into giving them their votes. The American political system is
flawed by Career Politicians. Career Politicians are incumbents who are motivated
by the goal of staying in office for another term. The more years these officials hold
office for, the more power, reputation, and money they earn. But after too many terms
in the same position they lose the common public interest (if they ever had it to start),
and holding their office becomes strictly for the money and the power. The public
buys into their campaigns and slogans, and they continually get voted in, but
consistently fail to make impressionable changes.
Career politicians break down the structure in our government in ways even an
enemy could not: They create a constant power vacuum of superficial platforms and
un kept responsibilities, to fulfill their duties in office for the best interest of the
public. They promise more action with more time, and in return they raise taxes to
fund filler government programs. Arguments for term limits vary from as long as ten
years to down to just two. Our country s debt has skyrocketed in the last decade, and
it s not just the cyclical nature of the economy. It is the funding of government
programs that are being started by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

solution to the high unemployment rates. They care about pleasing the biggest
wallets, and the heaviest purses, so they can weigh all their attention on them and

open to newer ideas and fresher faces. Change in perspective is needed, and the

The Boys In The Boat Chapter 13 Summary
Teamwork is Key
When you get the rhythm in an eight, it s pure pleasure to be in it. It s not hard
work when the rhythm comes that swing as they call it. I ve heard men shriek out
with delight when that swing came in an eight, it s a thing they ll never forget as
long as they live. George Pocock The 1936 Olympics was an international multi
sport event held in Berlin where eight young boys, against all odds, managed to row
their way to their first gold medal in the eights rowing competition. The Boys in
The Boat by Daniel James Brown delves into the stories of Joe Rantz and
Washington s rowing organization before their victory in the Olympics, revealing
the many obstacles they had to overcome to gain the coveted gold medal. At the
beginning of Chapter 13, the epigraph above describes the beauty and efficiency of
the swing in rowing, where a team begins to row in sync in an almost magical
fashion, leading to an amazing increase in performance. The following chapter
described the creation of the rowing crew and their victory at the Pacific Coast
Regatta over their rivals in California. Their victory, however, was only possible
through the crew s performance as a team, achieving the swing that Pocock s
described in the epigraph. Teamwork is essential to the success of any organization,
large or small. The necessity of teamwork was especially emphasized through
Pocock s comparison between a rowing crew and a symphony, stating If one fellow

To illustrate, it does not require any too difficult technique. In addition, people are
less likely to forget this method after ignoring this activity for such a long period of
time. Just make a perfect combination between utilizing your bike and paying lots of
efforts, then you will receive tons of benefits.
Strengthen the muscular parts
Like many other sports, cycling contributes to firming the different muscles located in
various parts of your body.
For those who are too lazy to work out regularly, the muscular system tends to reduce
by 50% of its strength
On the other hand, it can cause your muscles to get weak and numb permanently.
Even too lazy to practice is also the cause of aging muscle and make it become
useless in the future
Therefore, riding a bicycle allows the body s muscles to be activated such as the
abdomen, shoulder, arm and calf. Especially, it helps to firm the sensitive parts in the
waist and abdomen. This creates chances for the muscular system to be strengthened
and operated much more efficient.
Increase the strength of bones
In addition, these parts of your body are supported together by utilizing the ligaments,
tendons and muscles. There are various advantages for your boning system
Persuasive Essay On Football
Football is an American sport, that many families and friends enjoy together.
However, many people have not been interested in going to the football games
they normally enjoy and not because of losses, but because of the disrespectful
players in the National Football League (NFL). Kneeling during the National
Anthem has become an issue, and some find it offensive because it s disrespectful
to veterans and active military personel, it shows our country doesn t care how we
act, and it causes people of our nation to fight each other. NFL players are kneeling
and the people who have served and are in the process of serving for our country,
plus their family members believe that this is disrespectful to them. However,
some service men and women are okay with this, they say the players have the
right to protest and that is why we have so many rights supporting freedom in our
country. Donald Trump said in his speech last week in Alabama the people who
own NFL should fire all players who kneel during the anthem. Trump used harsh
words when he was describing the way the players should be kicked off the teams.
Pat Tillman, former NFL player and now Army ranger shows on twitter that it s not
disrespecting veterans to kneel during the anthem. As this is what he and others
fought for, the right to protest, some veterans agree. Although, Kevin Ferrell and
other service men and women, thinks this is not what they went to war for and took
the chance of dying for. Some feel this is showing they don t want to be an
American, but nothing is stopping them from living elsewhere. Although many
people are saying the NFL players kneeling during the anthem bothers them, they
aren t doing anything and this shows they don t really. This stands out, because of
the fact that Donald Trump spoke last week and still no one has done anything to
help this situation. Pat Tillman, former NFL player and now Army ranger, shows on
twitter, it s not disrespectful to veterans to kneel during the anthem. However, Kevin
Ferrell, 5 year Army veteran says this is not what he went to war for and could ve
died for, many other veterans have mutual feelings. Some feel this is showing they
don t want to live here, but nothing is

Dream is the royal road to the unconscious. Sigmund Freud. Sigmund Freud was a

1886, they had five daughters. Even with the struggles that Freud had with his family,
his education was a success. Freud graduated high school with all honors. He

He was able to dig deeper into the dream in order to figure out what it was about or
why someone was having a certain dream. Freud was successful throughout all of
the theories. Freud believed that every little idea or item had a possible meaning.
For example, seeing a picture in a dream would have a possible meaning that
something could happen with the picture the next day. An impressive part of Freud
s work, was taking small ideas and making them have a bigger meaning by asking
questioning about the ideas, in order to find their possible meaning. When someone
had a dream, Freud would want the person to discuss their dreams and their thoughts
and hopes in order to see if there was a deeper meaning behind the action that was
thought of. Freud created a new view on dreams and thoughts by understanding the
superego and the tools that were used. Freud created many great benefits for the
The Next Chapter of Peter Pan, My Darling Pan Essay
We flew throughout the night and only rested on a cloud to gaze at the beautiful

orange planet glowing in the distance. Surrounding it was a ring of gold dust of what
I can only suspect to be fairydust. This must be Neverland. I have never seen such a

2011: Arizona Monument Fire Devastates Over 30,000 Acres Within the Huachuca
Mountains. This paper will cover the scope of the events of the Monument Fires as
well as the basic summary of need for the State of Arizona for Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) funding. Background. On June 12, 2011 in Sierra
Vista, Arizona a city near the Mexican border, a suspected human caused fire was
started within the Coronado National Monument Park, along the southern tip of
the Huachuca Mountains in Southern Arizona and quickly shot through the
canyons south of the city of Sierra Vista. Over the course of 14 days, the wildfire
burned to some extent 100% of the park s acreage; destroyed a total of 62 homes,
18 outbuildings and 4 businesses (Youberg Pearthree, 2011) and mandatory
evacuations were in effect due to the fires moving quickly towards the outskirts
along with the danger of the smoke that blanketed the town. The fire was wind
driven spread and was aided by high temperatures and low humidity. The
Monument Fire burned 30,526 acres by the time of containment a month later on
July 12. Unfortunately, the disaster would not over when the fire was finally
extinguished. A burned landscape presents a number of safety hazards that either
did not exist prior to the fire or are increased by the effects of the fire. These types
of hazardous conditions may continue for several years after a fire. The fire had
destroyed the grasslands and trees that grew along the canyons of the
Disadvantages Of Fuzzy Logic
Chapter 2
2.1 Fuzzy Logic Controller Fuzzy logic is a type of multi valued logic. It deals with
approximate reasoning rather than precise. Fuzzy logic derived from fuzzy set
theory. Fuzzy logic was first proposed by Lotfi Zadeh in 1965. Fuzzy logic has
currently used in control theory, artificial intelligence systems specially to control
complex aircraft engines and control surfaces, helicopter control, messile guidance,
automatic transmission, wheel slip control, auto focus cameras and washing
machines, railway engines for smoother drive and fuel consumption and many
industrial processes. Fuzzy logic provide better results if we compared it with PID

It can also control fast processes.
Disadvantages of fuzzy control
Human knowledge is often incomplete and episodic as compared to systematic way.
If the model is not known then it is impossible to achieve the stability of the

Sometime rules are mismatched and non coherent.
In complex operation fuzzification and defuzzification take long time.

Lupe As A Role Model
Most people think being a role model is like a popularity contest, they think it s
easy. People think all they have to do is fit in with the crowd so they can be
popular. But being a role model is not an easy task, although Lupe makes it look that
way when she doesn t even fit in. In the story, The MarbleChamp, by Gary Soto, Lupe
is a very good role model. Lupe shows this by being a good sport, always working
hard, and by being intelligent.
One reason why I think Lupe is a good role model is because she is very intelligent.
As proof, Lupe s academic grades are straight A s. This shows that Lupe is
intelligent because not many people get straight A s on their report card every year
of school. Secondly, Lupe is intelligent because she has won multiple awards. For
example, Lupe won the school spelling bee, she won the blue ribbon award in the
science fair, she was the winner of a reading contest at the library three summers in
a row, she was also the top student in her piano recital, and she was the playground
champion of chess. Talk about a ton of awards, right? Lupe feels like none of these
awards mean anything though. Lupe wishes she could win some type of award in
athletics, so that she can keep up with the other girls in her school, that s why Lupe
is working towards her goal of being the marble champion. Also, in one case in the
story, when Lupe was playing marbles on her bed, she figured out that her bedspread
was slowing down the marbles as she shot them. This
Explain Why Was Mesmer Created What Would Be
Hypnosis
(1.)Describe how Mesmer created what would become hypnosis. Why was Mesmer s
method of testing his idea problematic in light of the scientific method?
The origins of hypnosis came from a physician known as Franz Anton Mesmer
who some would say related an effective therapy based on the idea that illness,
mental or otherwise, was the result of misaligned magnetic forces within someone
who is experiencing extreme distress. Mesmer earned his medical degree and had a
thriving practice but he also had a passion for science and kept up to date with
current developments. He was interested primarily in recent discoveries of
electricity and magnesium. He believed that magnesium directly affected humans
and that good health was a direct result of aligned internal magnetic forces. He
believed that if these forced did not align that a person would be either mental or
physically ill or both. Since it was believed that illness was created by the forces
opposing each other as a physician and scientist he believed in order to cure illness
these forces needed to straighten out within the body. He believed that in order to
cure his patients who would develop mental health disorders he would prescribe
them a heavy dose of iron and then pass magnets over their bodies. His patients
would then go into a crisis state a type of trance state where his patients ... Show more

Adjectives In The Odyssey
One of the greatest poems of Greek culture is the Odyssey from the unsighted great
poet Homers, which is described as being an epic poem, and one of the most
important for the Greeks. Furthermore, the word epic has many definitions that
differ from each other, yet it can be the only word that encircle many adjectives
within its definition making it the perfect fit to describe such an important and
valuable poem in literature. According to dictionary.reference.com, there are six
adjectives among other forms of speech that defines the word epic. For these six
adjectives assertively describe in detail the epic poem of the Odyssey, it is exclusively
important to explain why the word epic makes such a perfect fit.
The first definition among the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, we can extend this definition more profoundly by looking at the 2nd
definition of the word Resembling, which refers to an archaic form of comparison.
Accurately, the Odyssey is an archaic poem dating back to the ancient Greek
culture, but to what other epic poem could it be archery compare? Not only because
the Odyssey and the Iliad were written by the same author, the great and blind
Homers, but also because in a sense both epic poems are portrayed as the two most
important peace of poetry in Greek literature.
The third definition of the word epic as an adjective is defined as heroic; majestic;
impressively great. Odysseus is the heroic king of Ithaca who after the troy wars that
lasted 10 years, never cheated on his wife which he could of done many times, and
does everything possible to return home and be with his son Telemachus and spouse
Penelope. Because Homers include the many ancient Greek gods, it is
understandably correct to account the Odyssey as being a majestic poem in which
the god s decisions make the journey of Odysseus returning home impressively
Role Of Transportation In The Victorian Era
The Victorian Era spanned over sixty years of British history, during which Queen
Victoria ruled the country. During this era, great improvements were made in the
area of transportation. These innovative changes produced larger and faster ways to
travel for less money. In Charles Dickens A Tale of Two Cities, horse drawn carriages
are used as the most prevalent form of transportation. Transportation in the British
Victorian Erawas vastly different than today s transportation as evidenced in Dickens
A Tale of Two Cities.
During the Victorian Era there were very few modes of transportation. The most
widely used forms of transportation during this time were horse drawn carriages,
ships, trains, and walking. Types of transportation were greatly improved during the
time leading up to the Victorian Era. Carriages provided for faster transportation of a
large number of people for less money. Ships had been... Show more content on

In every respect, this was a revolutionary transformation more revolutionary, in its
way, than the rise of the cotton industry because it represented a far more advanced
phase of industrialization and one bearing on the life of the ordinary citizen outside
the rather small areas of actual industry (Hobsbawm). Finally, there was an easier
way to bridge the gap between country and city life. This technological advancement
changed peoples lived drastically, mainly because it was so much faster than anything
before.
Over a century has passed and technology has never slowed down since. Today, the
people of Britain, both wealthy and poor, have so many more transportation
choices. Over the years, as the scientific revolution allowed, more varied and
cheaper ways of travelling were invented. In present day Britain, there are a lot of
ways that people get around. You no longer have to be rich to get where you are
going in a safe and timely

Structure Of Argumentative Essay

  • 1. Structure Of Argumentative Essay Writing an essay on the structure of an argumentative essay can be both challenging and rewarding. On the surface, the topic might seem straightforward, as it involves outlining the components of a specific type of essay. However, delving deeper reveals the intricacies of crafting a compelling argument, organizing thoughts coherently, and presenting evidence persuasively. One of the initial challenges lies in understanding the fundamental elements of an argumentative essay. This includes grasping the importance of a clear thesis statement, identifying reliable sources for evidence, and acknowledging counterarguments. Balancing these elements while maintaining a logical flow is crucial, and it requires a keen understanding of the topic at hand. Moreover, the process involves selecting relevant evidence to support the main claims. This requires thorough research and critical analysis to ensure the chosen sources are credible and contribute effectively to the argument. The ability to synthesize information and present a cohesive argument is a skill that demands time and practice to master. Organizing the essay itself can be another hurdle. Determining the most effective sequence for presenting ideas, transitioning between paragraphs, and ensuring a smooth progression of thought can be challenging. The writer must consider the reader's perspective and anticipate potential objections, addressing them strategically within the essay. Additionally, crafting a compelling introduction and conclusion requires finesse. The introduction must grab the reader's attention, provide context, and present a clear thesis statement. Conversely, the conclusion should effectively summarize the main points, restate the thesis, and leave a lasting impression. Achieving this balance is no easy feat. In conclusion, writing an essay on the structure of an argumentative essay involves navigating through various challenges. It demands a solid understanding of the components of effective argumentation, the ability to find and synthesize relevant evidence, and the skill to organize thoughts in a coherent and persuasive manner. However, mastering these challenges can lead to the development of crucial writing and critical-thinking skills. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other academic writing tasks, various resources are available, including professional writing services. These services can provide support in crafting well-structured and compelling essays tailored to specific requirements. • 2. Sheltering Sky versus Blood Meridian Essay Extreme circumstances bring about substantial changes in people. At least that is what Paul Bowles and Cormac McCarthy seem to be saying in the writing of their respective books, The Sheltering Sky and Blood Meridian. Both authors place their characters in difficult locations, dealing with difficult people and expect them to emerge changed, for better or for worse. In The Sheltering Sky, Bowles takes his American trio and places them in the desert landsof the African continent where the wide, dry impossibly desolate terrain takes its toll on their minds and bodies. Likewise, McCarthy takes his ragged bunchof marauders, most prominently the Kid, and has them wandering the massive expanse of the untamed west. This convention of forced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both parties chance upon characters, both eccentric and dangerous, and all involved seem to get themselves into the most impossible situations imaginable. Apparently the point Bowles and McCarthy are trying to convey to the reader is that great change and substantial inner growth can only come about through intense emotional stress and physical challenge. Kit, in The Sheltering Sky, learns some very interesting things about herself through the course of our travels with her. She starts out as Port s wife, a secondary character of sorts, afraid to voice her opinions on virtually everything. We have the inside track on her thought s and feelings though, and are privy to the fact that she is unhappy not only with her situation and current location, but also with her marriage and identity. We get our first glimpse of her realization of these problems on her train ride with Tunner, as Port is traveling with the Lyles. Her spontaneous affair with Tunner is a symptom of her unhappiness and is the beginning of a downward spiral that takes her to the brink of insanity and far beyond. We see the beginning of her growth in her encounter in the Fourth Class cabin of the train when see comes in close contact with the miserable peasant folk and she realizes that aside from their cultural differences she is no better than these simple folk and in some ways she is far worse. As her story progresses we, the reader, get to see the progress of her downfall due to the
  • 3. Abraham Lincoln s Letter From Birmingham Jail 1.Discuss three things that connect Lincoln and King through these writings When first getting this assignment, I thought it would be difficult to compare Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Speech and Martin Luther King Jr. s letter from Birmingham jail seemed like they would be very different. I thought this because of how much time passed between both of these writings and since both individuals had such different agendas, at least that s what I thought. After the reading I did find many underlying similarities. Starting with the most obvious one, right off the bat, I noticed that both Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. incorporate their faith into their writings. In Lincoln s speech and MLK s letters, I noticed many quotes taken from the bible. In MLK s letter he went a step further and incorporated not just his own faith and what he believed, but other faith and religions as well. In the Second Inaugural Address, Lincoln said, Both read the same Bible, and pray to the same God . He then went on and stated from the bible let us judge not that we be not judged . This comes from Matthew 7.1, and basically what is meant is that the we should think of ourselves first, as individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason they are so different is because of the initial agenda behind these writings. Lincoln s agenda for his Inaugural Speech was to enlighten citizens of the hard times ahead and how we as citizens need to come together as one. Martin Luther King Jr. s writing was intended to enlighten people of his side of the world, which evolves discrimination, hatred and inequality. Unlike Lincolns, MLK was not trying to get the readers ready for what was to come, but rather for what should come. He was sharing his side of the story. Lincoln was not sharing a story but rather the facts of what the civil war brought, which was dividing the
  • 4. The Reality Of British Television Programs When thinking of British television programs, it is impossible for one not to think of the international hit, Doctor Who. Originally debuting in 1963 under the British Broadcasting Corporation, Doctor Who included an upperclass white male playing the lead character along side another white male and two white females. Doctor Who aired during the 1960 s when Great Britain was still recovering from the destruction of World War II and was also facing the reality that they were not the world power they once were. Also, large influx of immigrations were entering Great Britain during this period. Class, gender, and racial prejudices were extremely prevalent within society and Doctor Who was no exception. Yet eventually attitudes change and the producers of the show understood that to remain relevant within popular culture, they would also need to change. Even though, Doctor Who has made strives over the past five decades to create a more inclusive television program, they still lack in accurate representation of society. During the 1960 s, Great Britain was coming to terms with the decline of their once massive empire as well as overall lose of world power. The United States of America and the Soviet Union were now the dominating powers, leaving Great Britain frustrated. That is where media stepped in the help counteract this fact. British television and films were made to demonstrate the power and knowledge of the kingdom with the James Bond series and the Avengers. Doctor
  • 5. Literary Devices In Hills Like White Elephant Ernest Hemingway was an American novelist who was credited with having a major impact on the fictional writings of the 20th century. His writings have influenced many people through his life experiences seen throughout many of his stories. In Hills like White Elephants Hemmingway uses multiple literary devices throughout the story. Three of these devices are imagery, symbolism, and a metaphor. Hemmingway uses imagery in his story when he calls his girlfriend a jig. A jig is a device use to trick someone just like the man feels happened to him. The American feels that the woman is using the baby as a jig for them to stay together. By having the two different stances on decision it creates a conflict that is going to make one have to give in and accept the others option. According to Howard Hannum, Jig expresses all too well what the girl had meant to the American. This statement is true because she is trying her best to stay away from talking about abortion even though it is clear that the American wants her to get one.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Symbolism is the use of a symbol to represent something else. Hemmingway uses colors as a way to symbolize the happiness one feels and the bitterness of another. According to Lewis weeks color symbol involving black of licorice and the whiteness of the hills suggests the contrast between sorrow and joy (75). This shows how in the story the woman feels happy that she is pregnant but at the same time is upset due to the fact that the American wants her to get the procedure done. Hemmingway also uses color symbolism when talking about the setting of the story. He says, The hills across the valley of Ebro were long and white. On this side there was no shade and no trees and the station was between two lines of rails in the sun (Hemmingway
  • 6. Symbolic Interactionism In Sound And Fury In this paper I will be introducing three key themes in this course that we have covered throughout the year that specifically tie into the film Sound and Fury These themes include the self, experiencing emotionality, and symbolization. This paper will furnish a comprehensive analysis of the film in relation to the themes outlined. Society uses symbolic interactionismthrough interacting on an everyday basis by understanding the workings of the world. There are different paradigms that we use through our sociological thought process. Through these paradigms they help us conceptualize what is taking place in life. Symbolic Interactionist approach falls between meaning making and socio cultural position. It is through communicating and interaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Peter speaks to the principal and says back in my home town there is a huge hearing community and they are in charge and give them orders, but they do not understand our deaf culture. There was a lot of deaf awareness in Maryland. Peter mentioned that he feels inspired there. He said when I am in the deaf world I feel safe, when I am in the hearing world I feel like I m locked up in jail, and held back . So Peter and his wife decided to move to Maryland. What is particularly interesting in both of these scenes and what we have learned throughout the course is that there is an emotional significance to identification because our self esteem is bound by identification and a sense of belonging. With this, we are always comparing ourselves with other groups, and the reason that we do this is to maintain our self esteem. Once two groups identify themselves as separate, and rivals, and then they start to compete in order to maintain our sense of self and self esteem. This is one of the key aspects when understanding the self and social identity. There are two rivals here, one is the deaf world, and another is the hearing world. Peter had stated before that in his hometown he feels that the hearing world is in charge and they give orders. This is just one example of how Peter is visibly threatened by the hearing world. His identity is being deaf. So the natural decision for him and his family would be to move to a town which has a better understanding and acceptance of deaf culture which specifically relates to the deaf identity that Peter and his Family
  • 7. Essay on Woodrow Wilson Woodrow Wilson President Woodrow Wilson s legacy of being a peace keeping president has lasting impression on the United States. From his great intellect and progressive reform, to the tragedy of the Great War and his hope for peace, Wilson was a strong leader through it all. Decades after his death, he is still remembered as the man that he was: an ethical and caring person who desperately wanted to better the world. It was in the beginning of the 20th century when this man finally left his mark on our country which not only made him a significant historical figure, but also a hero and a man who worked hard to make the time he lived in his. An important aspect that signified Woodrow Wilson as a prominent historical figure was the Great War and his crusade for peace. When the Great War began, Wilson tried to put an end to it, but neither side budged. Even though it seemed the war would go on for a while, Wilson believed he could still end it and eventually all wars in general (Brands 51). By the time the U.S. had entered the war (1917), Wilson was still determined to end the war for all wars. He created the 14 Points, which outlined the terms for the Treaty of Versailles, as well as the League of Nations which intended to reinforce peace in the world through diplomacy (Brands 60). In any case, almost every one of Wilson s decisions had an underlying theme of peace to them and that is what he was remembered for. On the home front, Wilson was also known as a Progressive because he changed the conditions in society at the time. He passed laws which limited the age of workers to 16, and even helped farmers improve their farms in the Farm Loan Act (Brands 87). Overall, Wilson felt that it was his duty to better the world, from home to all the way overseas. Even though some believed that he was too idealistic and not realistic in terms of his views, he still did the world a lot of good. Ending the Great War, creating the 14 Points, forming the League of Nations, being a Progressive, and fighting for world peace were the main contributions that Wilson made which we now look back upon as
  • 8. Core Competencies For Healthcare Professionals My Leadership SMART Goal The Institute of Medicine has defined five core competencies for healthcare professionals. These competencies are to provide patient centered care, work in inter professional teams, employ evidence based practice, apply quality improvement, and utilize informatics. (Finkelman, 2012, p. 214). Nurse leaders recognize that the need to put the patient first is at the heart of patient centered care and is significant in all aspects of nursing care. Patient centered care incorporates collaboration with the patient and family and takes into consideration cultural diversity or issues that will affect the patient s ability to manage and maintain their health. Keeping the lines of communication open with our patients involves assuring that they are kept abreast of their health management and provided with up to date education to help them utilize measures to maintain their health. As nurses we are accountable to our patients and need to stay current with our own education and commit to lifelong learning (Fights, 2012) to be sure we are passing on up to date and relevant information. Acquiring certification is an important way of validating our practice and proving our commitment to providing quality patient centered care. Fights challenges us to ask ourselves if we are committed to lifelong learning or furthering our education. Signing up at Chamberlain to obtain my BSN was an important step for me but I will not let this be the end of learning. Achieving
  • 9. Essay about Daniel Keys Flowers For Algernon CHARLY The book Flowers For Algernon , by Daniel Keys was written in 1961. Later, Richard Heynes decided to produce the movie in 1968 properly called Charly . There are both similarities and differences between the two. However, the differences play a more crucial role between the two rather then the similarities. One major difference between the movie and book is the events that took place. One example is when Charly met Fay. This never happened in the movie. But in the movie, when he met her he let all of his inner feeling out into the open and had a great time. In the movie he only went away for awhile and even then he only had what seemed to be a few short flings. With Fay, Charly was able express himself to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Donner s bakery he was never harassed by the new employee. This was when Joe Carp and the other realized that Charly was back to his old self. Joe Carp roughed up the bully and got him fired for his actions directed at Charly. Another major difference between the book and movie is the traits and actions taken by the characters. One example is Alice Kinnian. In the story, she is depicted as a quiet, non aggressive person, but in the movie she is very much the opposite in character. For one, she never really made a move towards Charly, however, in the movie, she is the more aggressive between the two. Also, towards the end of the movie, Alice asked Charly to marry her and that never even happened in the novel at all. Charly is another character who is given different traits and actions in the movie then the book. In the book, he is a kind, warm hearted man who couldn t harm a fly. Believe it or not in the movie Charly tried to sexually assault Alice. In the book he never ever would have tried to do such a horrible thing to Alice. Also, he got very upset when he found out that he failed one of the tests given to him at the laboratory. He could have cared less if he failed in the book. Charly s family is something else that was never mentioned in the movie, and it s probably the most important difference of them all. It is the most important because of the fact that when Charly went to visit his family, it brought to him a great deal of happiness

Lowell Girls Case Study Answers Lowell Girls Lowell Girls Background Information In 1821, the Boston Manufacturing Company under Francis Cabot Lowell built a textile factory in Waltham, Massachusetts . The next step to achieve economic success was to establish a workforce. The workers at the manufacturing center could not be children, but did not need to be strong to use the machinery, yet had to be smart to completely understand the method to effectively create products with the mechanisms. Employment in the factories allowed the women to gain a sense of freedom, as they were free from parental authority, had time to attain information for a better education, and able to earn money. This freedom was viewed as a threat to the societal norm in the United States. Women were typically restricted in society, making the actions of the Mill Girls extremely meaningful. Other people perceived the factory system as a form of slavery and helped fight against long hours and working conditions faced by the women. Textile mills that were run by the Lowell Girls were key to saving America during economic crisis when there were not any other methods to manufacture products. The women s impact on the economy was indisputable when they went on strike to demand better working conditions. The textile industry came to a complete stop, pressuring factory owners to grant the Mill Girls requests. The amount of change over time in society concerning the treatment of women was evident after the Lowell movement. The women that challenged companies for labor reforms were the same women that were not independent and could not vote in society. These girls were able to voice their concerns and opinions through newspapers, strikes, and the Factory Girls

Mr. Booth was a Ph.D. student at the business school and one of Professor Eugene Fama s students, a professor who came up with the efficient market hypothesis. Mr. Booth believes in the soundness of the hypothesis that he says the financial crunch supplied further proof and support of market efficiency as far as publicly traded stocks and bonds are involved, but he cautioned that the idea should not be extended to other areas of the financial market and its managers make money by applying this strong belief. The efficient market hypothesis states that financial markets are profitable and that the prices in the stock market already embed all familiar information regarding a stock or other security and that the prices adjust quickly to new information which includes current and future expectations about a stock. It further explains that if all needed information concerning the investment is known, it will be difficult for any investor to outperform the market since he/she will be working with the same information as everyone else. Also, that it is impossible to consistently beat the market by stock picking. • 13. Summary Of Women In The Thousand And One Nights The Thousand and One Nights, is a frame tale. A frame tale means that there are stories within stories, and all the tales included have a connection in one way or another. Some of the en framed stories in The Thousand and One Nights portray women as being submissive to their men and always eager to please what their men desire of them. Also, in some of the tales they are looked at as simply mere objects, having near no value, and having no rights. However, the narrator, Shahrazad, differs from these women by using her courage and power against King Shahrayar, to save not only her life, but risking it to save those of other women. In The Thousand and One Nights, we encounter wives that are cheaters, disobedient and concubines just wanting to please the men. For example, this frame tale opens up with the story of King Shahrayar and Shahrazad, the daughter of the King s vizier. King Shahzaman sees his wife committing adultery. Seeing his wife do such an act, made him have no respect for woman, as shown when he said, No. Women are not to be trusted (The Thousand and One Nights 557). This multi talented woman is not only an award winning author and poet, but also an actress, screenwriter, dancer, and civil rights activist (Maya par 2). Maya Angelou s amazing gift of writing was so powerful and inspirational. Although she no longer walks the earth, her works continue to live on and be the food for our souls. She was truly a living example of the phenomenal and confident person that we should all strive to be. In the poem Phenomenal Woman, Maya Angeloulets us know that it is not what we look like. It is how we carry ourselves. We should have a sense of shamelessness about ourselves. We should be shameless and confident, no one can take away our pride, and they cannot do anything but respect us for it. Maya Angelou had a way of expressing her feelings and experiences through her writing. This poem was a beautiful example of her doing just that. In the first stanza, she writes using strong imagery to where I can immediately visualize the setting of the poem. I pictured the setting to be a formal event where Maya Angelou herself is walking into the venue, making a grand entrance that had all eyes on her. When I read the excerpt, I m not cute or built to suit a fashion model s size (Maya 2), I instantaneously thought of the era Maya Angelou endured that her body type was not socially accepted. It was an era when being a black woman was far from being envied. Women with similar

To be able to answer how much the feminization of poverty trend and black and white inequality trend can explain the U.S wealth distribution, I would use the same regression model lows uses. Instead of just looking at blacks versus whites, I will look at female headed households versus male headed household too. Similar to Low s paper, I will use the Binder Oaxaca decomposition to document the difference in wealth earnings if male headed households receives the female variables and vice versa. I hope to find that some of the wealth distribution can be explained by the variable differences between the male and female headed household. I expect the difference will only be noticeable towards the bottom of the distribution, probably below top 50%. The difference in median household incomes between whites and blacks has grown from about $19,000 in 1967 to roughly $27,000 in 2011. Median black household income was 59% of median white household income in 2011, up modestly from 55% in 1967; as recently as 2007, black income was 63% of white income. As of 2015, relative to the average hourly wages of white men with the same education, experience, metro status, and region of residence, black men make 22.0 percent less, and black women make 34.2 percent less. The Progressive Era brought out these issues and made everyone aware of them. This era was a period in the United Statesthat consisted of social activism and political reforms. The importance of this era was the passing of labor laws, anti trustlaws, unionization for important industries and the introduction of four new amendments in the constitution. Children have been servants throughout human history. Employers were taking advantage of children by making them work very long days and work in dangerous conditions. Children laborers also lacked an education due to the long hours they worked. Children worked to help support families but yet got very little pay. Reformers and labor organizers wanted to restrict children labor and improve the working conditions. Most Americans would never agree, they wanted adults to run the work world and rather give any available job to an adult than a child. The education reformers battled the vast majority of America because of their opinions on child education. (I. Yellowitz) After a while, primary school education was a necessity. The Natural Resource Of Natural Resources 1.1Background and Introduction Over the last decade, the term natural resource curse has gained importance among resource rich countries; it claims that natural resource wealth is linked to poor economic growth (Sachs Warner, 2001). In other words, countries with an abundance of natural resources are less developed and tend to grow slower than resource poor countries (Sachs Warner, 2001). It may seem that having plenty of natural resources is a gift, yet the fact is economic growth in countries like Indonesia and Nigeria do not actually show that the profusion of natural resources are a blessing (The Economist, 2000). Expectation to have a high growth economy because of being rich in natural resources has gone. In fact, natural resources have been causing many major conflicts to those resource rich countries in terms of economics, international relations, and environment (Ross, 2003). Looking back on Indonesia s history, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for 3.5 centuries, the reason was simply because Indonesia is rich of natural resources, due to the limitations of natural resources, especially herbs and spices back in Netherlands (Cribb, n.d.). During that time the Dutch tried to get the natural resources as much as they could without considering the welfare of the Indonesian (Cribb, n.d.). Indonesia had been freed from the Dutch and Japanese, yet, until today after 65 years of attaining independence, the country has not been able to liberate its people

She seems to be selling some of her cabbage to a man and his first request is that he wants everything to be natural. He watches her through a peep hole as she gets the cabbage together for the man. The cabbage made me think as if she is getting herself together for the man. This sounds like a type of symbolism as if he was admiring her, but he wants her to be a natural woman. Although the woman might be beautiful natural, some woman feel beautiful once their beauty is enhanced by something. Beauty can be enhanced by makeup, hair relaxers, and even plastic surgery. Therefore, for a man to want you to be natural, you cannot have any make up, hair relaxers, and definitely not any plastic surgery. In other branches of Christianity, like Catholicism, one can find a crucifix because Catholicism focuses on Jesus death (Patheos). Market analysis with direct competitor in the region suggests that studio prices are at least 21% lower and one bedroom suite prices are at least 40% lower than the competition in the new pricing model. Comparison with the general market suggests similar findings. MAIN REPORT In May 2006, Westmount Retirement Residence was having very low profitability. Its very simple pricing model essentially charged each resident the same price per month regardless of their needs. This was due to a change in the patientsВґ demands. In the past, patientsВґ demands were similar and therefore the companyВґs pricing and costing system was appropriate. But changes in the population and in the requirements of the residents caused that the pricing model remained out of date and the costing system inappropriate. One of the problems observed when analyzing the companyВґs situation was that due to the costing system used it was not possible to have a clear picture of how much each of the services offered were costing. Consequently, it was clearly very difficult being able to define a pricing system that will give the shareholders the desired profit. The first step was to design a new costing system adequate for the company

In this case, sales that would normally have occurred in 1998 were recorded in 1997. Assuming a positive gross profit on these sales, earnings in 1997 is inflated. Requirement 2 A customer would probably not be expected to pay for goods purchased using this bill and hold strategy until the goods were actually received. Receivables would therefore increase. Requirement 3 Sales that would normally have been recorded in 1998 were recorded in 1997. This bill and hold strategy shifted sales revenue and therefore earnings from 1998 to 1997. But occasionally, an abnormal degree of uncertainty causes point of delivery revenue recognition not to be appropriate. Revenue recognition after delivery sometimes is appropriate for installment sales and when a right of return exists. Judgment Case 5 3 Mega should recognize revenue for the initial fee equally over the estimated average period members will continue to be members. Even though the fee is nonrefundable, it is not earned until services are provided. Since there is no contractual period of service, it must be estimated. Mega would be justified in recognizing only $3 of the initial fee immediately to offset the cost of the membership card. The payment option chosen by members does not affect the revenue recognition policy. The monthly fee should be recognized as revenue upon billing, as long as adequate provision is made for possible uncollectible amounts. Judgment Case 5 4 The revenue recognition policy is questionable. The liberal trade in policy causes gross profit to be overstated on the original sale and understated on the trade in sale. This results from the granting

He uses these techniques to prove the absurd nature of his characters in the story. A lot of authors have criticized Swift s story of Gulliver s Travels for his use of irony and satire to make fun of society and human behavior. Kathleen Williams said It is clear, both from the satires and the religious writings, that Swift was hostile to all doctrines of the natural self sufficiency of man (pg 275). The writings of Swift can have most societies question their own behaviors and relate somewhat to the insane nature of human behavior. Swift makes people question themselves in this story to who are you are you a yahoo or houyhnhnms, the negative part is that both are not good.Swift also clearly shows the negative nature in his expression of the yahoos but it can be unclear, and open for opinion if he writes the houyhnhnms as positive characters. Mary believes Swift shares Gulliver s love of the houyhnhnms and his hatred of mankind for its failure to achieve houyhnhnms rationality (pg. 1153). Swift s character Gulliver seems upset that he cannot be one of the houyhnhnms and they do not accept them into society, they believe he may be a more modest yahoo but a yahoo all in the same. The American political system is flawed by Career Politicians. Career Politicians are incumbents who are motivated by the goal of staying in office for another term. The more years these officials hold office for, the more power, reputation, and money they earn. But after too many terms in the same position they lose the common public interest (if they ever had it to start), and holding their office becomes strictly for the money and the power. The public buys into their campaigns and slogans, and they continually get voted in, but consistently fail to make impressionable changes. Career politicians break down the structure in our government in ways even an enemy could not: They create a constant power vacuum of superficial platforms and un kept responsibilities, to fulfill their duties in office for the best interest of the public. The Boys in The Boat by Daniel James Brown delves into the stories of Joe Rantz and Washington s rowing organization before their victory in the Olympics, revealing the many obstacles they had to overcome to gain the coveted gold medal. At the beginning of Chapter 13, the epigraph above describes the beauty and efficiency of the swing in rowing, where a team begins to row in sync in an almost magical fashion, leading to an amazing increase in performance. But being a role model is not an easy task, although Lupe makes it look that way when she doesn t even fit in. In the story, The MarbleChamp, by Gary Soto, Lupe is a very good role model. Lupe shows this by being a good sport, always working hard, and by being intelligent. One reason why I think Lupe is a good role model is because she is very intelligent. As proof, Lupe s academic grades are straight A s. This shows that Lupe is intelligent because not many people get straight A s on their report card every year of school. Secondly, Lupe is intelligent because she has won multiple awards. For example, Lupe won the school spelling bee, she won the blue ribbon award in the science fair, she was the winner of a reading contest at the library three summers in a row, she was also the top student in her piano recital, and she was the playground champion of chess.
