Simple Living High Thinking Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of "Simple Living, High Thinking" poses a unique challenge, as it
requires a delicate balance between exploring the simplicity of life and the depth of intellectual
pursuits. The intricacy lies in not merely juxtaposing these concepts but intricately weaving them
together to convey a profound message.
The difficulty arises in navigating through the vast array of perspectives associated with
simplicity and high thinking. On one hand, you need to delve into the essence of leading a
simple life, embracing minimalism, and appreciating the beauty in life's uncomplicated facets. On
the other hand, the essay should delve into the intellectual realm, discussing the pursuit of
knowledge, critical thinking, and the richness that comes with a thoughtful and reflective mind.
The challenge is to avoid superficial analysis and clichГ©s, instead offering a nuanced
exploration that goes beyond the surface. Striking the right balance is crucial to ensure that
neither simplicity nor intellectual depth is oversimplified or overly complex.
Additionally, the difficulty is compounded by the need to engage the reader with a fresh
perspective. Given that the topic is well-discussed, finding a unique angle or an original insight
becomes paramount to make the essay stand out.
Furthermore, articulating these ideas coherently and elegantly poses its own set of challenges.
The writer must navigate the delicate line between eloquence and simplicity, ensuring that the
prose reflects the essence of the topic.
In conclusion, composing an essay on "Simple Living, High Thinking" requires a thoughtful and
nuanced approach, incorporating a delicate balance between the simplicity of life and the
richness of intellectual pursuits. It demands a deep exploration of both aspects and an ability to
present them cohesively. It is a task that necessitates creativity, originality, and a keen
understanding of the intricate relationship between living simply and thinking profoundly.

Flame Test Essay
I. Introduction: The reason we are able to observe different colors of light during the
flame test is because the electrons move from their normal stable configuration, or
ground state, to a different orbital and an excited state. When electrons are in an
unstable state they need to get rid of energy in order to get back to their ground state.
They do this through giving off lightenergyas photons. Depending on the element the
photonwill give off a certain color and move from its unstable, excited state back to a
stable, ground state as they give off their energy through light.
A real life example of this is fireworks. Fireworks are carefully crafted to give off
beautiful colors such as purple, green, red, and blue. Different chemicals are ... Show

Analysis Questions: The metal is the element responsible for the different colors that
are given off. This can be determined because chlorine is a constant in all of the
compounds tested, it is the different metals that change what color is given off in the
flame.
This would not be a viable method of determining metals because not all melts yield
a color in a flame test therefore some metals would not be able to be observed in this
test and the test results would be inconclusive.
VI. Conclusion: When testing the water samples it had been determined that traces of
strontium were found in sample C and traces of potassium is sample B by comparing
them to the different salt samples. These samples show that the factories are lying
about their cleanup methods and there is infact salts in the waters which is a danger
to the environment and the health of the community. Actions will need to be taken in
order to fix this hassed to protect the workers and those in the
Crisis Response Time for American Red Cross Essay
(1)
Since the writing of this case, the American Red Cross (ARC) is on record as having
conceptually addressed its infrastructure and operational hurdles. However, very few
strides have been made to reverse stakeholder perception crisis response time, relief
dispatch strategies, and the ethical dilemmas plaguing the organization.
Governmental mandates that streamlined the board and that established accounting
/reporting parameters have done little to modify the organizations operational culture.
Since 2002, the organization has had seven CEO s. This high turnover has prompted
concern from stakeholders and government officials. Records indicate the
organization now has approximately 35,000 employees and its volunteer pools still ...

These re occurring incidents have shaken the confidence of stakeholders and have
begun to have an adverse impact on donor perceptions of the integrity and validity of
the efforts promoted by ARC (Welch, 2012).
In March 2012, local leaders and the United Way demanded answers from Red
Cross Panhandle Chapter regarding the distribution of $282K that was raised from
wildfire relief donations. These funds were raised in 2010 and by the time the
inquiries began many of the 2010 ARC staff in this chapter had been replaced
under the government restructure. As such, new staff found itself in a quandary as
it sought to address the questions and accusations being hurled (Welch, 2012). The
tangible numbers that were eventually conveyed indicated that of the $282k raised,
$119k was actually given to victims and $60K was used to restock inventories. This
account still left $103K unaccounted for. The next speculation that surfaced was
revolved around why the funds were not distributed for the purpose for which it
was collected? A spokesperson for the local ARC chapter communicated that,
personally, he [did] not like this [situation] and he acknowledged the top two
previous chapter officials made errors. It was noted that these same two officials left
the company in May of 2011 for what ARC labeled as personal reasons . In response
to the local chapter s inability to provide acceptable disclosures regarding how funds

As a coach, I am extremely proud of their accomplishments on the court, but most
importantly what they are accomplishing daily off the court.
Sarah Kreul, a senior accounting major and setter for the Lady Cats, stated in an
email it is a regular occurrence for the team to aid and support each other
academically. As a team, we are really good at helping each other out, Kreul stated.
Most players have similar majors, so someone has the book or notes or study guide
for the class. Together we can help almost anyone pass whatever class they need to.
We are a tight knit group.
Logan Allen, a senior education major and middle hitter for the Lady Cats, stated in
an email her coach fosters an environment for players to excel in academic excellence.
Coach Edwards always encourages us to sit in the front of the class, to be more
attentive, to create relationships with our professors and to ask for help when we
need it, Allen stated. One of our top priorities is maintaining great grades through
season and off season by attending team study halls and studying on the bus on road
trips.

Cherokee Valley Case Study
I ll stay here until the water comes up and float down with it when it does, Mattie
Randolph, a housewife from Eastern Tennessee told a TVA worker on his first visit
to her family s house. The TVA worker was there to buy her property which was
scheduled to be submerged after the construction of the Norris Dam in 1936. The
Randolph s were one of three thousand families that were being forced to relocate in
order to complete the project. Even though all of Mattie s neighboring families had
accepted government offers to buy their land, Mattie and her familywere the only to
refuse government purchase offers. This is a similar story to those that played out
across Eastern Tennessee in the 30 s, 40 s as the newly formed TVA sought to

Citizens believed that private utility companies charged too much for electricity
and could abuse their power. This sentiment combined with the severe need for
economic growth in the Tennessee valley during the great depression lead to an
idea that had been manifested ten years earlier in a town famous for things other
than hydroelectric power, Muscle Shoals. Henry Ford proposed that a federal dam
should be built in Muscle Shoals to provide electricity and fertilizer for the region
and President Coolidge insisted Muscle Shoals should be used as part of the
development of the Tennessee Valley because of hydroelectric power and nitrate
fertilizer production. Coolidge, however, did not support government intervention
to build dams on the region s river systems. Conflict simmered as some proposed
the dam should be used for power, and some believed it should be used for
fertilizer. The debate continued into Herbert Hoover s presidency who greeted the
controversy with ambivalence, believing leasing the facilities at Muscle Shoals, or
to use revenue from the dam to fund fertilizer research were more appropriate
responses. However, with Franklin Roosevelt s ascension to power in 1933 the
concept behind Muscle Shoals would be at the center of the new TVA legislation.
Roosevelt believed wartime facilities like Muscle Shoals, should be used to benefit
the country. He fulfilled the promises he made as a candidate and in 1933 the TVA
came to be when Congress passed the TVA act. David E Lilienthal, a member and
future chairman of the Board of Directors at the Authority, describes the TVA s
purpose as to maintain and operate the properties now owned by the United States in
the vicinity of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in the interest of the nation defense and for
agricultural and industrial development and to improve the navigation of the

Essay on Tupac is Alive, Not Dead
In the same fashion that Elvis defined Rock n Roll; Tupac Shakur defined the hip
hop music scene, as we know it today. What made Tupac (also known as 2Pac, or
Makaveli) so special were his enormous talent, his on screen friendly looks, and the
sense that he was real and talked the talk, while walking the walk. Tupac was born
on June 16, 1971, Tupac Amaru Shakur. He was named after Tupac Amaru, the
Inca Indian that was sentenced to death by the Spaniards. He was originally from
Brooklyn, New York. Tupac spent a lot of time moving around as he was growing
up. He was the son of a Black Panther activist Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland. Tupac
moved from Harlem, to Baltimore, to Oakland. The constant moving caused Tupac to

Shakur s legal troubles continued in 1994 when he punched out Menace II Society
co director Allen Hughes and served a fifteen day sentence for his actions. The
sexual charge came back to haunt Shakur in 1994 and he was convicted and
sentenced to four and a half years in prison. The same day that Tupac was
convicted, he was shot five times and robbed of his jewelry in a mugging Tupac
claimed that the Notorious B.I.G., rapper that Tupac argued with over the past
couple of years was responsible for hiring those who shot him. This intensified the
East Coast West Coast feud (Venable 98 99). After going to serve his sentence,
Tupac s Me Against the World came out and the song Dear Mama became a hit.
Later on, Marion Suge Knight the CEO of Death Row Records record label that
Tupac would sign to later on, posted $1.4 million dollars in bail to get Tupac out of
prison. He immediately flew off to Los Angeles to record his fourth album. In an
apparent attempt to further enrage the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac said that he had
slept with the rapper s wife, Faith Evans. She denied this allegation. Tupac added
more fuel to the Bad Boy (B.I.G. s record label) vs. Death Row feud when he
released the music videos 2 of Americas Most Wanted and later Hit Em Up, which
both assassinated the character of Bad Boy Records, B.I.G., Sean Puffy Combs

Cohabitation Before Marriage Essay
INTRODUCTION Love, flowers, food, music, stress, and happiness all combined
into one day a wedding day. While many people may fantasize about that perfect
wedding day with the perfect dress or tux and a decadent cake, most aren t ready to
commit to what comes after. Some call it living in sin, others call it living in bliss,
but these days it s almost expected that a couple will live together without marriage.
Cohabitation, once rare, is now the norm. Filipino family life has changed drastically
as marriage is losing ground and more couples live together without tying the knot.
Instead of using terms such as husband and wife or even spouse, businesses and
advertisers speak of partners and companions . Instead of getting... Show more

In Britain, an estimated 80% of couples live together before getting married.
Australia is just behind at 77%. The reason given by many couples who cohabit is
that they believe they will increase the chances of success when they eventually
marry. However, research has shown that this idea is a fallacy. And it flies against
God s intention that men and women be sexually joined together only in marriage.
Here s what some of the research reveals: Although most theories of marital choice
predict that cohabitation would increase the stability of later marriage for those
couples who marry, evidence to date suggests the opposite; couples who cohabit
before marriage seem to end their marriages at significantly higher rates than couples
who never lived together before the wedding (Demography, August 1995, p.438).
Some studies put the divorce rate at 50% higher for couples who cohabit; others put
it as high as 80%. In America roughly 40% of cohabiting couples break up before
marriage. Many couples apparently move in together intending to marry later. One
study revealed that 70% of women moved in with a man with marriage on their minds
(Adams,S. amp; Young,B., The 10 Commandments of Dating, 1999, p.110). Many
people who choose to live together before marriage show that they are reluctant to
commit to a relationship and want to keep their options open. Apparently they value
their autonomy and individuality. However, these
Building Your Own PC Essay
Building Your Own PC
In the following paragraphs I will be instructing you step by step on how to build
your own PC (Personal Computer). It is recommended that you have general
knowledge on computers. This means that you need to know what the different parts
are and what they do.
The first thing that you want to do is to get all your tools and parts together. The
tools that you will need are a Phillips screw driver and a Вј ; socket wrench. The
basic parts that you must have are a motherboard (PC Board), a video card, a sound
card, some RAM (Random Access Memory), a hard drive, a 3 ВЅ ; floppy A drive,
and a computer case. For these particular instructions you will need a ... Show more

After you have tightly crewed those in you will want to take the PC board and set
it on top of the mounting screws. You will want to place the holes of the PC board
over the mounting screws. You will then want to screw down the PC board to the
side panel. After you have done this place the side panel, with the PC board attached,
back into the case and replace the screws that were holding it.
You have now completed the first part of your computer. You will now want to
look at the front of the case and take off one or two of the slot panels, depending on if
you are installing a CD ROM or not. This is where you are going to place you
amp;#8217;re a drive and your CD ROM if you chose to install one. You
amp;#8217;ll want to go ahead and place in the floppy drive and the CD ROM
now and screw them in tightly. Be sure that they do not protrude out of the front of
the case. Now you will want to place your hard drive in under the floppy drive and
secure it. You have now completed the second part of your computer.
You will know want to take your RAM and place them in the slots they were
designed for on the PC board. You will then want to take the IDE cable that came
with the case and plug it into the PC board where the IDE 1 is labeled. You will
then take the other end of the cable and plug it into your CD ROM. Continue to plug
the middle of the cable into your hard drive making
Hijab Essay
STATEMENT OF INTENT
The genre for this piece of writing is column writing. My intended audience is
young adults who are interested in gaining an insider s perspective into what goes
on in the mind of a hijab wearer in today s society. The purpose of this piece is to
explore different aspects of the hijab and factors that may influence a teenager to
wear it. The idea I am developing is how different factors have influenced my journey
with wearing the hijab. Language features I will use to create effects include:
alliteration, simile, personification, rhetorical question and rhyming.

things. Maybe it s none. I m writing this in selfish hope that I ll be able to find my
own answers to those nagging questions that live inside my head and threaten to
show themselves at moments when I least expect them on the bus going to school, in
the middle of cleaning my room, during the

Candle in the Wind as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. Then in 1997when Princess Diana

third of the American adult population is considered to be overweight, a figure that
is still on the rise. Numerous studies have presented the negative impacts that obesity
has on health and how every organ system in the human body is affected. When
minimally invasive strategies such as life style changes fail, bariatric surgery
procedures have become the other option. The purpose of this literature review is to

As a result, obesity does not merely affect the individual alone, but an entire
society. With a prevalence of one third of adults considered to be overweight (not
dealing with childhood obesity, which is becoming an epidemic in its own right),
more patients are turning to surgery as a solution. In 1992 there were 16,200
bariatric surgical procedures in the United States and by 2008 that number had
increased to 220,000 (Schumann, 2010). This paper aims at answering the
following question: In obese adults undergoing bariatric surgery, how does opioid
free anesthesia compare to opioid based general anesthesia and its effect on post
operative outcomes in terms of post operative pain, post operative nausea and
vomiting (PONV), and length of stay in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU)?
Bariatric surgery is the last resort for morbidly obese patients who have tried other
options, such as diet and exercise, but have fallen short from obtaining their desired
health goals. The surgery is safe and effective, but as with any surgery, there are risks
involved. Furthermore, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has put forth very
specific criteria that must be met before bariatric surgery can be performed on a
patient. The Obesity Action Coalition
Rhetorical Devices Used in Queen Elizabeth s Speech
Through her speech, Queen Elizabeth inspired her people to fight for the country of
England against the Spaniards. Queen Elizabeth persuaded the English troops to
defend their country with rhetoric devices such as diction, imagery, and sentence
structure to raise their morale and gain loyalty as a woman in power.
Queen Elizabeth skillfully used diction throughout her speech to motivate the troops.
In the speech, Queen Elizabeth used the word we four times to underscore her feeling
of unity between her and her country. She conveyed her care about the welfare of
everyone in the country. This inspired the soldiers to remain patriotic and want to
fight for their nation. In addition, the queen refered to the soldiers as noble and ...

The whole phrase justified that she is, in fact, a strong leader, both politically and
militaristically regardless of her being a woman. This phrase would help the
queen gain respect from the soldiers who may not have respected her high position
before because of her gender. In the same sentence, Queen Elizabeth uses a
hyperbole to describe how much she cared for her country of England. She said, I
myself will take up arms . She, of course, had no intent to physically engage in the
war along with the troops, but she was trying to depict the image of herself to the
soldiers saying that she was willing to do anything for the sake of England. This
convinced the troops that they should do the same. The queen s excellent use of
imagery instilled respect for herself from the troops and inspired them to go to war.
Queen Elizabeth expertly used sentence structure to instill confidence in the troops
to fight the Spaniards and gain trust. In the speech, the queen used parallel
structure to compare herself to a king, or man in power. She said that she has the
body of a weak and feeble woman, but a strong heart of a king. The usage of
parallel structure brought to light that even though she may not be physically able,
she still cared about the well being of her people just as a king would. She conveyed
the message that the people s respect towards her should be no different than that
directed towards a king. In addition, Queen Elizabeth

Role Of Changez In The Reluctant Fundamentalist
Throughout The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Changez is the character we learn the
most about. We learn about him going to Princeton University, about working at
Samson and Underwood, about his politeness and manners, about Erica, about his
personality, about his political opinions and about his time America in general.
Even if everything Changez say about his time in America is true, we really don t
know him. There are several years in which we know almost nothing about
Changez s actions, only that he is a protester and he became a University lecturer.
This ambiguous or Changez is only perpetuated even more by the ending in which
we honestly have no idea what happened. If everything Changez told the Nameless
American about his time in America is a lie, It is possible and likely that Changez
did go to America at one stage as he had knowledge on different company s and the

There are only two sinks in the bathroom, so we have to share the sink with
everyone. The bathroom smells like the outside mixed with a gross bathroom smell.
Once we finished brushing our teeth, we head on back to the campsite, and then the
boys go to the bathroom.
Rachel and I are sharing our own little tent by ouself, and Mom, Dad, Grant, and
Evan share a big tent. Rachel and I get changed, then try to get comfortable on top of
our mattresses. Whenever we go camping, Rachel calls the warmest and comfiest
sleeping bag, and everyone else just gets a normal sleeping bag. Inside the tent, the
temperature is not that cold, so I only wear my feet pajamas without a sweatshirt.
Rachel and I say good night and try and fall asleep. I twist, I turn, I squirm, but I do
not get comfortable. Everything was quiet until, bursts of laughter uproared from
silence. What is wrong with them!? I ask myself. Rachel, I think those people are
drunk... I tell Rachel. No ding dong, I m pretty sure that was Jacob and Jillian. Oops!

committed on constructing durable security measures to protect our border. The
security of the border will always entail the immediate attention from both sides of

Relationship Between Sir Percy And Lady Blakeney
I think the relationship between Sir Percy and Lady Blakeney is interesting
because they once loved each other, but then lost the love due to what Lady
Blakeney did to Marquis de St. Cyr and his family. She killed that family in order to
save her brother. In the same way that forced her kill that family, Chauvelin made her
choose to kill her brother or The Scarlet Pimpernel. In wanting to save her brother,
of course, she gave the information she found, about the Scarlet Pimpernel, from Sir
Andrew to Chauvelin. I felt so bad for her because early the next morning, she
figured out that Sir Percy was The Scarlet Pimpernel. So then she had to help him,
and I think that their relationship is quite intriguing because she wanted to win his
loveback,
Observation Of The Swine Show
We arrived to the fair as the swine show was beginning. The judge was introduced
as Dennis Wooden, a nice older gentleman who said he had many years in the
swine industry. Then they brought out the groups of kids and their pigs. It was, at
first, confusing to me that there was a wide range of different aged children
showing all at once. There were kids that were ten all the way to those who were
about sixteen in the ring. I soon realized that they split up their groups by pig
weight and not by age groups like our fair does. The way judging was being carried
out was also a lot different than how our Mecosta does it. The people were not
smiling or looking at the judge, which is strange considering how important this is to
us at our fair. This
The Legal Drinking Age Should Be Abolished
Legal at Eighteen
Currently in the United States the legal age to drink alcohol is twenty one years
old. Before the 1980s, the legal drinking age was eighteen years old. In 1980, the
drinking age was changed to twenty one to diminish the number of traffic deaths
caused by young drunk drivers. Changing the drinking age to twenty one has not
reduced drinking, it only made teens drink in unsafe and illegal environments. The
drinking age should be changed to eighteen, because eighteen year olds have the right
to vote, marry, buy guns, join the military, are considered adults, take away the thrill
of breaking the law, and it would help the economy.
In the United States at eighteen years old a citizen can vote. At eighteen a person can
choose who will be president, governor, senator, and other important positions. If an
eighteen year old can make the decision of who should run the country, then they can
decide if they want to drink alcohol. By the age of eighteen most people are
intelligent enough to comprehend politics and vote, and they should be smart enough
to understand how alcohol affects a person and smart responsibly. Of an eighteen
year old can vote, then they should be able to drink.
At the age of eighteen a person can get married. Being married is a lifelong and life
changing decision. Being married means that two people will spend the rest of their
lives together and share a life together. If a person can get married at eighteen they
should be able to
Franz Fanon The Fact Of Blackness Analysis
Starting the reading by Frantz Fanon The Fact of Blackness , the opening phrase
of the reading Dirty nigger stunned me. The following word simply referring to the
word negro that is used as an insult towards African Americans interested me
because referring to such a negative word by saying simply was odd for me.
Reading through this text allowed me to put myself in the position of a what it was
like to be black person. Fanon included descriptive sentences such as I had to meet
the white man s eyes. An unfamiliar weight burdened me. The real world challenged
my claims (258). Through this description, I was able to feel the weight that had
burdened the man. Fanon s the fact of blackness focuses on the issue of raceand
identity. The white race has always... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many myths of different races around the world and especially towards
black people by the white race and Fanon explains how it feels like being who he is.
The part in the reading that I went wow was when the child was scared of an African
American man that was shivering thinking that he was shivering because he was
angry but he was shivering because he was cold. The white race didn t even
consider the fact that the black man is a human being that could also be affected
by the cold weather but they rather go for the myth and unjust judgments that are
negative as Fanon stated further in the reading, Negroes are savages, brutes,
illiterates...there was a myth of the Negro that had to be destroyed at all costs
(261). The myths that go around in a society of one race leads to people that doesn
t even know them personally to make judgments of them and have an automatic fear
towards the people that are different from who they are. Fanon explores what it s
like being a black man in a
The Social Of Social Justice
Through the social work profession, social justice inhibits a motivation to aid and
identify with a designated population through a humanitarian perspective. As social
workers, we have an incredible desire to collaborate with colleagues with similar
vision to discover a solution to the concerns of the client that comprises of the social
justice. Each professional helper is placed with a chosen population with an overall
objective to create positive changes. Through social justice, I serve as an advocate
for clients experiencing financial hardships or empower a client mistreatment in an
uncaring society. Social workers can serve in a community, individually, and
globally that broadens the span of the social justice. In the social justice, we are
objective and encourage the restructuring a system that is in desperate need of a
renovation. In my opinion, social justice can be most effective through team
collaboration and dedication of all parties involved in the system. Every social
worker understands the importance of preserving various populations heritage and
cultural diversity. It is essential for a practicing social worker to embrace other s
customs and ideologies. It a social worker that embraces cultural diversity, who
builds rapport and promotes the social worker the opportunity to effectively serve
others to avoid unnecessary barriers clients. Every social worker can be cultural

Pros And Cons Of Dog Parks
The lack of off leash styled dog parks across the United States of America have
brought much debate and unrest within communities. Cities and neighborhoods that
do not provide these types of dog parks make it difficult for pet owners to provide
exercise, social activities, and a place where dog and dogowners grow and learn
together. Park and recreationadvocates question the public advocacy on the assets and
location in construction for the dog park. Other locals are against the idea of off
leash style dog parks due to their concerns about safety and other potentially
problematic issues. Ed Fowley a reporter and dog owner from Los Angeles states,
...They don t know how strong the pack instincts are in their family pets. These
drives can and often do click into high gear when a dog is taken into a park with
strange dogs. (Fowley). Dog parks can vary from different shapes and sizes
however, the certain type of dog parks pertaining to this problem are those in
which dog owners are legally able to allow their dogs to roam unbound by leashes
or constrictions regulated by city and state. The park and recreation advocates of
communities who have few or little to none, off leash dog parks are struggled to
balance the fine line that crosses the accounts and finances of production all the
while, fight fear that it may create more issues. Families that use off leash dog
parks are able to thoroughly help and develop their dogs for a better life. Off leash
dog parks allow both pets and owners to learn and grow through exercising and
socializing without constant worry of infringing someone else rights. It benefits dogs
as they are given adequate space to run and use as an outlet meanwhile, recognizing
certain behaviors of more respectable and mature pets through socializing. Properly
exercising dogs allow them to relieve tension and unbend; this potentially changes
them from being noisy and irritable into more quite and friendlier animals. There
have been numerous accounts within my neighborhood where the local residents
have filed noise complaints on local dog owners. In the recent study, On the Fence:
Dog Parks in the (Un)Leashing of Community and Social Capital, authors Taryn

An Evolutionary Ethical Theory of Social Risks and Opportunities
ABSTRACT: Social standards guide us in what to do and what to refrain from doing.
But can social moral or legal standards be trusted? This paper presents an evolutionary
ethical theory that generates trustworthy ethical norms. Each norm is assigned a
demonstrable risk, called an ethical risk, that depends on both human behavior and
danger to the survival of society. The assigned risk is minimal if and only if everybody
obeys the norm. The higher the risk assigned to a norm, the higher the norm s rank
(an empirical quantity depending on the evolutionary status of society). An ordered
finite set of ethical risks and ethical norms allows the settlement of ethical ... Show

Hence in the western world tendencies to violence are rising, corruption [iwd, p.8]
is on the increase. And in Germany, for example, a third of all marriages break up,
the birth rate is low, the abortion rate is high and every third household consists of a
single person [Handelsblatt]. Is the West, as East Asian critics smugly say, a group of
newly decaying countries [Wickert, p.19]?
If this reproach is right, the decay of a specific society should be avoided by
appropriate behaviour patterns. Some of them may be identified already by a
thought experiment: If violence, theft or deception are the rule, people and their
society go to ruin; the situation is stabilised when everyone helps each other, for
then violence or deception are no longer means of survival. Ethics as a theory of
rightful dealings involves empirical research on behaviourally conditioned ethical
risks, which may depend on the technological level of a society. Each of these ethical
risks jeopardizes the survival both of individual citizens and their society as a whole.
An ethical risk is a quantity with a certain magnitude; with each ethical risk goes an
ethical norm which is the condition for the minimisation of that particular risk.
Unfortunately risks are seldom independent from one another. So only the
simultaneous observance of various ethical norms minimises all essential collective
and individual survival risks. If only a single ethical

Bartle Hall Sky Stations Analysis
Bartle Hall Sky Stations
I grew up 85 miles northeast of Kansas City, Mo. in a small farming town. On the
special occasion that we would get to go to Kansas City (the city) it was a very
exciting thing for me. I ll never forget the first time I got to drive by downtown
Kansas City. Traveling south along I 29/I 35 and all of the sudden I looked up and
saw these huge concrete pylons protruding through the skyline. These pylons were
incredible to me but what really drew my interest was what was sitting on top of the
pylons.
Downtown Kansas City was going through a revitalization stage in the early 90 s
and part of that was the expansion of Bartle Hall, named after Harold Roe Bartle a

Fischer teamed up with a local Kansas City based firm A. Zahner Company
together they created and brought to life Fischer s inspiration. The largest of the
sculptures is 40 feet tall and 35 feet wide and weighing in at 24,000 pounds. In order
to get the sculptures on top of the four 300 foot pylons, a special helicopter was
needed. A Sikorsky S 64 Skycrane which is designed to lift heavy objects was used
to lower the sculptures down.
The city of Kansas City, Mo. paid 1.2 million dollars for the four sculptures and
other artwork from Fischer that is inside of Bartle Hall. Originally when the
sculptures were set on top of the pylons for the whole world to see a controversy
developed. People around the city were outraged that the city would spend 1.2
million dollars on sculptures that looked like hair curlers. 23 years later and it never
fails that if I am with someone and we are in the city the conversation starts about
what are those things and what do they do.
I m 36 years old now and 22 years after I first laid eyes on these Sky Stations I still
feel the same way about the beautifully warm concrete pylons but am still trying to
figure out exactly what is sitting on top of
How Did Martin Luther King Influence The Civil Rights...
During the Civil Rights Movement speeches were commonly used as a way of
sending messages to the wide population. Martin Luther King Jr. is one who
influenced many with his most famous speech titled I Have A Dream . In order to
appeal to every and all Americans, he uses race, religion, and geography as a way
of connection. Martin Luther King Jr. s objective in the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference was to push for Black Civil Freedom And Rights. He used
race as a way of getting more support by explaining how in his dream he sees the
races doing things together. In his speech, he says, With this faith, we will be able
to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to
stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day (King). His
repeated use of the word together is used to imply that all races can and should
work together to achieve his dream and that it s not just something African
Americans are to do alone. King uses religion to attract all Americans by
exclaiming that all religions stand and sing a free song together. Jews and Gentiles,
Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old

differently. It shows that he wants this freedom to spread all over America, from
mountain terrains of the west coast to the ones in the east

Analysis Of The Poem Native Guard
A traumatic event will never define a person s identity, it will never prove
character, or show weaknesses. A person is defined by much more than a single life
event. Natasha Trethewey uses her confusion and hurt that she experienced as
pieces for an artwork that has yet to be finished. By writing Native Guard,
Trethewey recreates herself like a disjointed collage. Using gut wrenching poetry as
her medium, Trethewey uses her words to represent a self portrait of her struggles.
Giving the readera chance to immerse themselves completely within Native Guard ,
her audienceis a key element throughout the book. You, as the reader, become an
empty shell for Trethewey to build herself anew; a skeleton structure for a new
identity. Instead of showing herself to the reader entirely, Trethewey uses her own
complex emotions to establish intimacy with the audience. You experience her
emotions as raw as she writes them. In her poem, After Your Death, Trethewey seems
to walk you through her actions, I found it half eaten, the other side / already rotting,
or like another I plucked / and split open being taken from the inside, (13). When you
look at this at face value it seems meaningless, monotonous, and something that
shouldn t be included in a poem about mourning.
Nevertheless, Trethewey lets her emotions and thoughts seep through specific words
of the poem. With phrases such as rotting, split, and plucked you can see a hidden
aggressiveness that only shows itself
Critical Analysis Of Naomi Klein s No Logo
In article No Logo Naomi Klein talks about closing down manufacture plants and
the techniques that big companies use to maximise their profit. She makes several
important points, which show us the reason why this is happening and what effects
it has on people. The article shares her arguments and analysis of the situation, and
this review will look at and evaluate them. The article was written in 2002 in New
York, and the location is not accidental because in North America alone, Levi
Strauss closed twenty two plants leaving 13,000 people unemployed. shut down
twenty two plants and lay off 13,000 North American workers between November
1997 and February 1999 (Klein, N., (2002) No Logo). The main purpose of this
article is to raise awareness and inform about exploitation of people as cheap
workforce in factories by big companies, who found a way of doing it without the
risk of being sued and closed down. This allows them to spend minimal amount of
money on product manufacture, resulting in maximum profit, therefore more money
can be spent on advertising to build stronger brandimage. Manufacture cost and
process is not as important as brand image, because product is something that is made
in factory; a brand is something that is bought by a customer (Klein, N., (2002) No
Logo.) What is worse is the fact that big corporations look at people working in
factories as if they were machines manmade objects without feelings or passion made

Differences and Inequalities That Can be Seen on the...

inequalities in the social, economic and cultural spheres. This essay will focus on the
differences and inequalities that exist between Renshaw St, Liverpool, and City Rd,
Wales, by examining road traffic, homelessness and street level economic activity
Renshaw street is perpendicular to the side of Liverpool City Centre, and Liverpool
Lime street is one street away as is the Adelphi Hotel. The road has a collection of

One can also find guitar, and music shops on the street, as students generally enjoy
playing the guitar when they aren t studying. These serve the local student
community, as well as other members of the public and the clubs, bars, take aways,
are usually exceptionally busy on most days of the week. This is generally
because consumption has never been a necessity , and of course take aways are a
direct example of this, as one could by goods from a store and cook them, it
generally isn t imperative to buy pre cooked food, however due to the culture of
students it is somewhat useful at the end of a night out. In order to increase
consumption the local bars(such as Starbuck s), and some modern pubs offer free
wireless internet in order to attract more of the business and student population and
thus, ideally from a business point of view, increase revenue. Also consumption is
a form of socialisation and most people feel they belong and are a part of
something when they consume (Making Social Lives) which is businesses such as
Starbuck s thrive in student areas/in the inner city where white collar workers work
as generally white collar workers earn a high amount of revenue, and spend it
predominantly on services (Making social lives, page 24)
The roads on Renshaw Street are exceptionally busy; there are several pedestrian
crossings

Economic Growth of Dubai Now known as a tourist destination like no other, Dubai
was once a small fishing and pearling community of close to 1,200 people. Appearing
regularly in Western pop culture, such as, movies, music, television shows, and
advertising, the city of Dubai has come a long way from its humble origins. The
purpose of this paper is to look at what contributing economic and cultural factors,
throughout history, that have contributed to the explosive growth of Dubai, with
the early establishment of trade being a key feature. To fully understand the scale
of development that has taken place, it is required to understand some of the
history that has led to its current status as a leader in the Arabian Gulf regional
economy and a luxury travel destination. Though the area that would later become
Dubai had been settled since approximately 2000 BCE, the first recording in
modern history dates to 1822. Initially known as Debai, the area was home to the
Bani Yas tribe. Originally a dependency of Abu Dhabi, the village sustained itself
by fishing, pearl diving, and minor sea trade. On June 9, 1833, led by Maktoum Bin
Butti Al Maktoum, 800 members of the Al Bu Falasah clan peacefully took over the
village and established the al Maktoum dynasty, which still rules Dubai, and the
UAE, to this day. In the twenty year period after the official founding of Dubai, the
area was plagued with piracy. This led the British to
My Life, Home Life And Spiritual Life
Personal barriers are obstructions put in place by old Scott that negatively affect
New Scott s achievement in his work life, home life and spiritual life. Barriers are
created by being hurt or let down in some way and then swearing to not have it
happen again. These barriers end up hindering me in doing what I needto do to
succeed and be a new person that does not have those restrictions holding me back.
In my college years I had to be very fiscally due to the fact that I could not count on
anyone to help me out with my expenses. I am not bitter about this fact, quite the
opposite; I cherish the fact that I was able to make it completely through my
undergraduate career without having to rely on someone else. There were rough
times that in which I had absolutely no money and missed out on opportunities to
travel and gain valuable experiences. I have also been put in the situation where
emergency expenses have come up and I have needed money and not been able to
get it. This has happened with medical bills, tuition, rent and other very important
things. So personally I have erected a barrier within myself to save as much money
as possible when I have it. There are things I may need but because it is a certain
percentage of my income or what not I neglect it, essentially kicking the can down
the road until I do have enough money. The barrier that I have created was due to
seeing my mom struggle with money even still in her 40 s and not saving any money
throughout her career.
Thanksgiving And Independence Day
Holidays are a time for families to come together and enjoy their time with one
another. Every person has their own personal favorite holiday however, it may
differ from others for many different reasons. Some holidays are region specific
that may only be recognized in a few countries or a single country. For example,
Thanksgiving and Independence Day are two holidays that only Americans
celebrate. As many years have passed since these holidays were first celebrated,
some may not understand the reason why these holidays are celebrated. Having the
knowledge of why the holiday is celebrated, can determine which holiday is one s
favorite. Thanksgiving and Independence Day are a celebration of important events
in America s history that have changed the nation into what it is today. Thanksgiving
and Independence Day are American holidays that are celebrated around the same
time every year. Independence Day is also known as Fourth of July and July 4th.
Many other countries may have their own Thanksgiving or Independence Day, but
they may not be celebrated the same way as the Americans. Americans celebrate
Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November, while they celebrate
Independence Day on July 4th. Thanksgiving and Independence Day are celebrated
on these days because that is when important events in America s history happened.
Independence Day and Thanksgiving recognize the accomplishments of those who
have come before and have made an impact on the country to make it

Chicago Case Study
On May 1st, 1893, the political and economic elite of the city of Chicago spared no
expense when they host the Columbian Exposition, which showcased the
technological, economic, and social capabilities of the United States of America and
the City of Chicago to the world (Hoyt, 2003). For the United States, this cultural,
technological, and economic showcase was an example of the massive capabilities
of the country that now rivaled perhaps even surpassed the capabilities of Europe.
For Chicago, the hope was to cement a change in its social and cultural appearance
to the outside world. Although one of America s fastest growing cities as well as one
of the largest, Chicago was having immense struggles with its image as its

Fredrick Douglass famously criticized the fair for excluding African Americans.
This exclusion, Douglass said, was an intentional attempt to delegitimize and
degrade the economic intellect and capabilities of African American people.
Douglass wrote that it was part of a broader determination to keep African
Americans down (Douglass, 1893). This effort was largely unsuccessful as we see in
the current time, but some merits can be given to the troubled past of the City of
Chicago and exclusive events like this causing unmeasurable harm with the Black

Gender Inequity in Education Essay
For years, females have been marginalized by American society. Until 1920, they
could not participate fully in the so called democratic organization of this country
by way of voting, and even then, it was considered improper for females to be
involved or interested in politics. In years past, females were discouraged from
entering certain professions, as the general consensus was that jobs that required
intense levels of higher training were male only jobs. Similarly, the place for
females was considered to be at home taking careof the children, rather than attending
university or going to work. Today, however, things are different. The outlook for the
future is much brighter. Females can pursue any career they choose. They are... Show

As things stand now, females, a group constituting approximately half of our nation,
are unable to achieve such ends because the educational system puts them at a
disadvantage by marginalizing them and placing their needs in learning below those
of males. Granted, this is not the case in every school. Many females grow to
become very successful individuals and receive the luxury of having teachers who
care about their education, who see all in the classroom as equally important to the
learning process. However, in a growing number of schools, some form of
discrimination, no matter how subtle, exists. If we want to grow as a nation, we
need to address this problem and allow all to have an equal chance at success.
Perhaps women in our society have it much better than in earlier generations.
Perhaps they indeed are afforded more opportunities to receive an education, and a
whole new world of job opportunities is open to them that had not existed previously.
But by allowing such discrimination to continue to exist, in any form, we convey the
message that as a society, we still somehow wish to retain some sense of separateness
between the capabilities of the two genders.
In researching this topic, I incorporated information not only from print sources, but
also from primary sources such as a focus group, interviews, and

Use Of Supernatural In Macbeth
William Shakespeare included supernatural elements in many of his tragedies, but
Macbeth stands out among the others for its dark tone. In the very first scene of Act
I, Shakespeare introduces his audience to the Weird Sisters. The Weird Sisters are
three witches who tell prophecies, or make predictions about things to come. They
inform the audience from the very beginning that, Fair is foul, and foul is fair,
meaning that appearances aren t always what they seem.
In Act 1, Scene 3, the witches tell Macbeth that he will be made Thane of Cawdor and
then King of Scotland. Shakespeare uses this scene to tell the audience and Macbeth
of things to come, but he also uses it as motivation for his character Macbeth. After
hearing the predictions,

Omelas Literary Devices
In stories there are many literary devices used to help convey the overall message
of the story. These literary devices help to portray the theme or themes of the story.
This allows the reader to grasp a better understanding of what the author is trying to
depict since it is hard to get the same image in the reader s head as is in the author
s. In Ursula Le Guin s The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, we see the use of
irony, setting and diction to help support the underlying theme of the value of a
human life. The theme of the value of human life can be depicted in the story through
the use of irony. In the short story, the utopian kingdom of Omelas is kept happy
due to the child that is locked away. Ursula Le Guin states, they all understand that
their happiness, the beauty of their city, the tenderness of their friendship, the
health of their children, the wisdom of their scholars, the skill of their makers,
even the abundance of their harvest and the kindly weathers of their skies, depend
wholly on this child s abominable misery . Everyone in the town knows of the
child s existence and believes that it is because of his mistreatment that they have
happiness. The kingdom believes that to embrace violence is to lose hold of
everything (Guin). This is ironic because Omelas is supposed to be a happy
kingdom, free of violence except for the violence inflicted upon the child. This one
human life is bringing happiness to the whole town. The value of a human life is

The Importance Of Prostitution
A provocatively dressed girl stands on the corner of a street waiting. Eventually, a car
with tinted black windows pulls up and the girl steps into the car. This is the
stereotypical image that comes to mind when people think about prostitution.
Prostitution has been debated, scorned, and looked down upon for many years. With
so much debate around it, it would seem like we would have a clear understanding of
prostitutionand society s stance on it. However, prostitution is still a big discussion
point for us because there is a clear split in opinion. Some say prostitution is a free
choice individuals make while others see it as derogatory and inhumane in the way
prostitutes are used. Regarding this split in opinion, the key question is what values
should be considered when discussing prostitution? In this paper, I will use primarily
use Farley and Peterson Iyer to argue that important values to assessing prostitution
are do no unjust harm, free consent, equality, and social justice in the context of
socioeconomic class and inequality between men and women.
To clarify, prostitution in this paper will refer to the practice of engaging in sexual
activity. Since this definition is very broad, the focus will be on adults, primarily
women, who have chosen to participate in prostitution. This paper will not discuss
forced prostitution, children that are sex trafficked, or prostitutes outside of the
United States because there are many other significant values that must be
The Ripper s Letter Analysis
According to Cristina Sanza, a letter that claims to have been written by the Ripper
states that the killer planned to cut the ears off of his next victim. A day after the
news agency received the letter, Catherine Eddowes was killed and both of her ears
had been cut off. The Ripper s letter was not published until after Eddowes death;
therefore, the Ripper must have been the author of the letter. Sanza announced that
Jeff Mudgett had a handwriting analysis expert compare the letter and Holmes diary
and he reached the conclusion that the letter and diary were written by the same
person. Sanza stated that just to be safe, Mudgett sent the sample to a computer
analysis who insisted there was a 97.95 percent chance that Holmes wrote the
Maintenance Of International Peace And Security
The exact phrase maintenance of international peace and security is used eight times
in the United Nations Charter, but now almost seventy years after the founding of the
organization the international organization s competence in pursuit of this lofty goal
is still subject to debate. The charter of the United Nationsgives the Security Council
the sole power determine the existence of a threat to world peace and prescribe
course of action needed to be taken against it. The five permanent members of the
Security Council each have the power to veto any action by the council. Requiring
the concurrence of five powers with diverse and wide reaching interests makes any
decisive action quite difficult to come by. However the Security Council... Show more

Collective security was a principal goal of the League of Nations and its principal
failure. When Japan invaded Manchuria and Italy invaded Ethiopia, the League
condemned the actions, but none of its members mobilized military force to rollback
the aggressors. Unlike the League, the United Nations has united the militaries of its
several of its members beneath its banner to defeat an aggressive state. However such
action has only occurred twice and only when the proverbial stars aligned.
When North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950, a young UN was faced
with the first real test of its commitment to collective security. An emergency session
of the Security Council sans the Soviet Union passed a resolution drafted by the
American delegation, which asserted that North Korea has violated the United
Nations charter by invading South Korea and authorized the use of force. A
coalition force under American leadership and the banner of the United Nations was
mobilized. It successively repelled the assault, which had nearly destroyed the
fledgling South Korean republic and pushed back North Korean forces to their
original borders. The American dominated force continued its advance in attempt to
destroy the North Korean state (Stoessinger, 69 85). This new chapter of the war
was in violation of the UN charter. Article 2 of the United Nations charter prohibits
both it and its member states from the use of force
Aristotle Voluntary Or Involuntary
Virtue, then, is about feelings and actions. These receive praise or blame when they
are voluntary, but pardon, sometimes even pity, when they are involuntary
(Nicomachean Ethics Book III 1109b). Aristotle believed that every action one
partakes in is considered to be either voluntary or involuntary, and that for each
circumstance an action is looked upon differently. Although, Aristotle brings up an
astounding point: some actions may have the ability to be mixed , meaning they are
both voluntary and involuntary actions. But now consider actions done because of
fear of greater evils, or because of something fine ( Nichomachean EthicsBook III
1110a 4 5). Actions performed under threat brought up many conflicts in Aristotle s
argument.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through defining what Aristotle thought to be involuntary, he was able to define
the voluntary. Finding that a voluntary act must be known by he/she performing
the act, and must be originated by him/her. For example, if one is to choose to take
an action such as to eat a cookie, this action has been processed in their own mind,
and decided without any outside pressure causing it to be a voluntary action. ...For,
presumably, it is not correct to say that action caused by emotion or appetite is
involuntary. For, first of all, on this view none of the other animals will ever act
voluntarily; nor will children... (Nicomachean Ethics Book III 1111a 24 27). He
states a fact to say that if every action done out of instinct was considered to be
involuntary then many actions which are considered voluntary would no longer be
considered so. While involuntary actions are caused by something that could cause
pain, voluntary actions are said to be caused my pleasure. Next, among all the
actions caused by appetite or emotion do we do none of them voluntarily? Or do we
do the fine actions voluntarily and the shameful involuntarily? (Book III 1111a 28
30). Aristotle states that it is absurd to think the things we want are involuntary. He
states that this is because some

The Use Of Communication In Superattural And Gray s...
Communication is key in everyday life and it is also an intricate part of television.
Without the use of communication, you would only be watching a blank screen
because everything about the show communicates details that are essential to the
program. There are two in particular that display excellent communication; the tv
shows being compared and contrasted are Supernatural and Grey s Anatomy whereas
supernatural is an action fiction, thriller, Grey s Anatomy is a medical drama. In a
medical drama such as Grey s Anatomy, most of the action takes place in a hospital
setting, whereas in an action thriller like Supernatural, conflict often takes place in
dark abandoned buildings. These chosen places relate back to communication and
help bring forth certain emotions that further draw the viewer into the episode. Given
the types of conflict associated with action thrillers and medical dramas, Supernatural
s atmosphere should be eerie and suspenseful, whereas Grey s Anatomyshould be
thought provoking and dramatic. The rooms where action most often takes place in
both shows are incredibly contrasting, seeing as both shows are meant to
communicate very different things. Most often in Supernatural the actions that take
place are in large abandoned buildings, with many dark open spaces and closed doors
with unknown things behind them. These environmental elements nonverbally add
to the atmosphere of the scene, dark spaces are often thought to be the hiding place of
corruption,
Australian Greens Research Paper
The Australian Greens represent the progressive face of Australian politics and have
formulated their policy positions with a reformist framework. Whilst the Greens
origins and expansion are primarily a consequence of new social movements, splits
within the ALP and its supporter base have enabled them to expand their political
voice. The Greens can trace their origins to local party branches across Australiathat
have merged together to become Australia s the nationally recognised party Greens

The ALP has taken a back seat to accommodating new social movements as it seeks
to take whatever measures necessary to achieving government. In response, the
Greens have used social movements as a platform for the party s campaigning.
The dynamics of election campaigning has evolved in Australia and has seen the
major parties produce less emphasis on traditional ideology (Katz and Mair
2009:762) in their attempts to winning elections by targeting swing electorates.
Therefore, the Greens have emerged as a party of principle in the face of blurring
distinctions between the two major parties who seek to freeze out the minor parties
and maintain their electoral dominance. Minor parties have fallen victim to
elements of Cartelization in Australian politics which aims to prevent any
challenges to the dominance of the two major parties. Furthermore, the Greens
have garnered support through the belief that the Liberals as well as the ALP have
become indifferent to the desires of ordinary citizens as policies become part of the
state than they are policies of any particular party or coalition (Katz and Mair
2009:759). The Cartelization of Australian Politics justifies how divisions within the
ALP have played a significant role in the origins of the Greens as voters seek to
challenge the dominant two party

Simple Living High Thinking Essay. Simple living high thinking inscription. Greeting card with calligraphy ...

  • 1. Simple Living High Thinking Essay Crafting an essay on the theme of "Simple Living, High Thinking" poses a unique challenge, as it requires a delicate balance between exploring the simplicity of life and the depth of intellectual pursuits. The intricacy lies in not merely juxtaposing these concepts but intricately weaving them together to convey a profound message. The difficulty arises in navigating through the vast array of perspectives associated with simplicity and high thinking. On one hand, you need to delve into the essence of leading a simple life, embracing minimalism, and appreciating the beauty in life's uncomplicated facets. On the other hand, the essay should delve into the intellectual realm, discussing the pursuit of knowledge, critical thinking, and the richness that comes with a thoughtful and reflective mind. The challenge is to avoid superficial analysis and clichГ©s, instead offering a nuanced exploration that goes beyond the surface. Striking the right balance is crucial to ensure that neither simplicity nor intellectual depth is oversimplified or overly complex. Additionally, the difficulty is compounded by the need to engage the reader with a fresh perspective. Given that the topic is well-discussed, finding a unique angle or an original insight becomes paramount to make the essay stand out. Furthermore, articulating these ideas coherently and elegantly poses its own set of challenges. The writer must navigate the delicate line between eloquence and simplicity, ensuring that the prose reflects the essence of the topic. In conclusion, composing an essay on "Simple Living, High Thinking" requires a thoughtful and nuanced approach, incorporating a delicate balance between the simplicity of life and the richness of intellectual pursuits. • 2. Flame Test Essay I. Introduction: The reason we are able to observe different colors of light during the flame test is because the electrons move from their normal stable configuration, or ground state, to a different orbital and an excited state. When electrons are in an unstable state they need to get rid of energy in order to get back to their ground state. They do this through giving off lightenergyas photons. Depending on the element the photonwill give off a certain color and move from its unstable, excited state back to a stable, ground state as they give off their energy through light. A real life example of this is fireworks. Fireworks are carefully crafted to give off beautiful colors such as purple, green, red, and blue. Different chemicals are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Analysis Questions: The metal is the element responsible for the different colors that are given off. This can be determined because chlorine is a constant in all of the compounds tested, it is the different metals that change what color is given off in the flame. This would not be a viable method of determining metals because not all melts yield a color in a flame test therefore some metals would not be able to be observed in this test and the test results would be inconclusive. VI. Conclusion: When testing the water samples it had been determined that traces of strontium were found in sample C and traces of potassium is sample B by comparing them to the different salt samples. These samples show that the factories are lying about their cleanup methods and there is infact salts in the waters which is a danger to the environment and the health of the community. Actions will need to be taken in order to fix this hassed to protect the workers and those in the
  • 3. Crisis Response Time for American Red Cross Essay (1) Since the writing of this case, the American Red Cross (ARC) is on record as having conceptually addressed its infrastructure and operational hurdles. However, very few strides have been made to reverse stakeholder perception crisis response time, relief dispatch strategies, and the ethical dilemmas plaguing the organization. Governmental mandates that streamlined the board and that established accounting /reporting parameters have done little to modify the organizations operational culture. Since 2002, the organization has had seven CEO s. This high turnover has prompted concern from stakeholders and government officials. Records indicate the organization now has approximately 35,000 employees and its volunteer pools still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These re occurring incidents have shaken the confidence of stakeholders and have begun to have an adverse impact on donor perceptions of the integrity and validity of the efforts promoted by ARC (Welch, 2012). In March 2012, local leaders and the United Way demanded answers from Red Cross Panhandle Chapter regarding the distribution of $282K that was raised from wildfire relief donations. These funds were raised in 2010 and by the time the inquiries began many of the 2010 ARC staff in this chapter had been replaced under the government restructure. As such, new staff found itself in a quandary as it sought to address the questions and accusations being hurled (Welch, 2012). The tangible numbers that were eventually conveyed indicated that of the $282k raised, $119k was actually given to victims and $60K was used to restock inventories. This account still left $103K unaccounted for. The next speculation that surfaced was revolved around why the funds were not distributed for the purpose for which it was collected? A spokesperson for the local ARC chapter communicated that, personally, he [did] not like this [situation] and he acknowledged the top two previous chapter officials made errors. It was noted that these same two officials left the company in May of 2011 for what ARC labeled as personal reasons . In response to the local chapter s inability to provide acceptable disclosures regarding how funds were

As a coach, I am extremely proud of their accomplishments on the court, but most importantly what they are accomplishing daily off the court. Sarah Kreul, a senior accounting major and setter for the Lady Cats, stated in an email it is a regular occurrence for the team to aid and support each other academically. As a team, we are really good at helping each other out, Kreul stated. Most players have similar majors, so someone has the book or notes or study guide for the class. • 5. Cherokee Valley Case Study I ll stay here until the water comes up and float down with it when it does, Mattie Randolph, a housewife from Eastern Tennessee told a TVA worker on his first visit to her family s house. The TVA worker was there to buy her property which was scheduled to be submerged after the construction of the Norris Dam in 1936. The Randolph s were one of three thousand families that were being forced to relocate in order to complete the project. Even though all of Mattie s neighboring families had accepted government offers to buy their land, Mattie and her familywere the only to refuse government purchase offers. This is a similar story to those that played out across Eastern Tennessee in the 30 s, 40 s as the newly formed TVA sought to transform... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Citizens believed that private utility companies charged too much for electricity and could abuse their power. This sentiment combined with the severe need for economic growth in the Tennessee valley during the great depression lead to an idea that had been manifested ten years earlier in a town famous for things other than hydroelectric power, Muscle Shoals. Henry Ford proposed that a federal dam should be built in Muscle Shoals to provide electricity and fertilizer for the region and President Coolidge insisted Muscle Shoals should be used as part of the development of the Tennessee Valley because of hydroelectric power and nitrate fertilizer production. Coolidge, however, did not support government intervention to build dams on the region s river systems. Conflict simmered as some proposed the dam should be used for power, and some believed it should be used for fertilizer. The debate continued into Herbert Hoover s presidency who greeted the controversy with ambivalence, believing leasing the facilities at Muscle Shoals, or to use revenue from the dam to fund fertilizer research were more appropriate responses. However, with Franklin Roosevelt s ascension to power in 1933 the concept behind Muscle Shoals would be at the center of the new TVA legislation. Roosevelt believed wartime facilities like Muscle Shoals, should be used to benefit the country. He fulfilled the promises he made as a candidate and in 1933 the TVA came to be when Congress passed the TVA act. David E Lilienthal, a member and future chairman of the Board of Directors at the Authority, describes the TVA s purpose as to maintain and operate the properties now owned by the United States in the vicinity of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in the interest of the nation defense and for agricultural and industrial development and to improve the navigation of the Tennessee River and Mississippi River
  • 6. Essay on Tupac is Alive, Not Dead In the same fashion that Elvis defined Rock n Roll; Tupac Shakur defined the hip hop music scene, as we know it today. What made Tupac (also known as 2Pac, or Makaveli) so special were his enormous talent, his on screen friendly looks, and the sense that he was real and talked the talk, while walking the walk. Tupac was born on June 16, 1971, Tupac Amaru Shakur. He was named after Tupac Amaru, the Inca Indian that was sentenced to death by the Spaniards. He was originally from Brooklyn, New York. Tupac spent a lot of time moving around as he was growing up. He was the son of a Black Panther activist Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland. Tupac moved from Harlem, to Baltimore, to Oakland. The constant moving caused Tupac to fit into his new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakur s legal troubles continued in 1994 when he punched out Menace II Society co director Allen Hughes and served a fifteen day sentence for his actions. The sexual charge came back to haunt Shakur in 1994 and he was convicted and sentenced to four and a half years in prison. The same day that Tupac was convicted, he was shot five times and robbed of his jewelry in a mugging Tupac claimed that the Notorious B.I.G., rapper that Tupac argued with over the past couple of years was responsible for hiring those who shot him. This intensified the East Coast West Coast feud (Venable 98 99). After going to serve his sentence, Tupac s Me Against the World came out and the song Dear Mama became a hit. Later on, Marion Suge Knight the CEO of Death Row Records record label that Tupac would sign to later on, posted $1.4 million dollars in bail to get Tupac out of prison. He immediately flew off to Los Angeles to record his fourth album. In an apparent attempt to further enrage the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac said that he had slept with the rapper s wife, Faith Evans. She denied this allegation. Tupac added more fuel to the Bad Boy (B.I.G. s record label) vs. Death Row feud when he released the music videos 2 of Americas Most Wanted and later Hit Em Up, which both assassinated the character of Bad Boy Records, B.I.G., Sean Puffy Combs (B.I.G. s best friend), and others on the Bad Boy label. • 7. Cohabitation Before Marriage Essay INTRODUCTION Love, flowers, food, music, stress, and happiness all combined into one day a wedding day. While many people may fantasize about that perfect wedding day with the perfect dress or tux and a decadent cake, most aren t ready to commit to what comes after. Some call it living in sin, others call it living in bliss, but these days it s almost expected that a couple will live together without marriage. Cohabitation, once rare, is now the norm. Filipino family life has changed drastically as marriage is losing ground and more couples live together without tying the knot. Instead of using terms such as husband and wife or even spouse, businesses and advertisers speak of partners and companions . Instead of getting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Britain, an estimated 80% of couples live together before getting married. Australia is just behind at 77%. The reason given by many couples who cohabit is that they believe they will increase the chances of success when they eventually marry. However, research has shown that this idea is a fallacy. And it flies against God s intention that men and women be sexually joined together only in marriage. Here s what some of the research reveals: Although most theories of marital choice predict that cohabitation would increase the stability of later marriage for those couples who marry, evidence to date suggests the opposite; couples who cohabit before marriage seem to end their marriages at significantly higher rates than couples who never lived together before the wedding (Demography, August 1995, p.438). Some studies put the divorce rate at 50% higher for couples who cohabit; others put it as high as 80%. In America roughly 40% of cohabiting couples break up before marriage. Many couples apparently move in together intending to marry later. One study revealed that 70% of women moved in with a man with marriage on their minds (Adams,S. amp; Young,B., The 10 Commandments of Dating, 1999, p.110). Many people who choose to live together before marriage show that they are reluctant to commit to a relationship and want to keep their options open. Apparently they value their autonomy and individuality. However, these

  • 9. Hijab Essay STATEMENT OF INTENT The genre for this piece of writing is column writing. My intended audience is young adults who are interested in gaining an insider s perspective into what goes on in the mind of a hijab wearer in today s society. The purpose of this piece is to explore different aspects of the hijab and factors that may influence a teenager to wear it. The idea I am developing is how different factors have influenced my journey with wearing the hijab. Language features I will use to create effects include: alliteration, simile, personification, rhetorical question and rhyming. UNDEREXPOSED A story of my internal struggles with intentions, choices and the hijab Why do you wear that? A simple question, that when asked by a girl in class the other day, caused me to pause, and contemplate. Maths class was not the time or place to have an internal crisis about my intentions! So as usual, I blurted out, I have to it s part of my faith . But that isn t exactly the whole truth. True, I cover my hair partly because I feel obliged to as a Muslim. But beyond that, I do it because... in all honesty, I don t know. Is it out of habit? Modesty? Guilt? Maybe it s all of these things. Maybe it s none. I m writing this in selfish hope that I ll be able to find my own answers to those nagging questions that live inside my head and threaten to show themselves at moments when I least expect them on the bus going to school, in the middle of cleaning my room, during the

With a prevalence of one third of adults considered to be overweight (not dealing with childhood obesity, which is becoming an epidemic in its own right), more patients are turning to surgery as a solution. In 1992 there were 16,200 bariatric surgical procedures in the United States and by 2008 that number had increased to 220,000 (Schumann, 2010). This paper aims at answering the following question: In obese adults undergoing bariatric surgery, how does opioid free anesthesia compare to opioid based general anesthesia and its effect on post operative outcomes in terms of post operative pain, post operative nausea and vomiting (PONV), and length of stay in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU)? Bariatric surgery is the last resort for morbidly obese patients who have tried other options, such as diet and exercise, but have fallen short from obtaining their desired health goals. The surgery is safe and effective, but as with any surgery, there are risks involved. Furthermore, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has put forth very specific criteria that must be met before bariatric surgery can be performed on a patient. The Obesity Action Coalition

Queen Elizabeth persuaded the English troops to defend their country with rhetoric devices such as diction, imagery, and sentence structure to raise their morale and gain loyalty as a woman in power. Queen Elizabeth skillfully used diction throughout her speech to motivate the troops. In the speech, Queen Elizabeth used the word we four times to underscore her feeling of unity between her and her country. She conveyed her care about the welfare of everyone in the country. This phrase would help the queen gain respect from the soldiers who may not have respected her high position before because of her gender. In the same sentence, Queen Elizabeth uses a hyperbole to describe how much she cared for her country of England. She said, I myself will take up arms . She, of course, had no intent to physically engage in the war along with the troops, but she was trying to depict the image of herself to the soldiers saying that she was willing to do anything for the sake of England. This convinced the troops that they should do the same. The queen s excellent use of imagery instilled respect for herself from the troops and inspired them to go to war. Queen Elizabeth expertly used sentence structure to instill confidence in the troops to fight the Spaniards and gain trust. In the speech, the queen used parallel structure to compare herself to a king, or man in power. She said that she has the body of a weak and feeble woman, but a strong heart of a king. The usage of parallel structure brought to light that even though she may not be physically able, she still cared about the well being of her people just as a king would. She conveyed the message that the people s respect towards her should be no different than that directed towards a king. In addition, Queen Elizabeth

Before the 1980s, the legal drinking age was eighteen years old. In 1980, the drinking age was changed to twenty one to diminish the number of traffic deaths caused by young drunk drivers. Changing the drinking age to twenty one has not reduced drinking, it only made teens drink in unsafe and illegal environments. The drinking age should be changed to eighteen, because eighteen year olds have the right to vote, marry, buy guns, join the military, are considered adults, take away the thrill of breaking the law, and it would help the economy. In the United States at eighteen years old a citizen can vote. At eighteen a person can choose who will be president, governor, senator, and other important positions. Is the West, as East Asian critics smugly say, a group of newly decaying countries [Wickert, p.19]? If this reproach is right, the decay of a specific society should be avoided by appropriate behaviour patterns. Some of them may be identified already by a thought experiment: If violence, theft or deception are the rule, people and their society go to ruin; the situation is stabilised when everyone helps each other, for then violence or deception are no longer means of survival. Ethics as a theory of rightful dealings involves empirical research on behaviourally conditioned ethical risks, which may depend on the technological level of a society. He used race as a way of getting more support by explaining how in his dream he sees the races doing things together. In his speech, he says, With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day (King). His repeated use of the word together is used to imply that all races can and should work together to achieve his dream and that it s not just something African Americans are to do alone. King uses religion to attract all Americans by exclaiming that all religions stand and sing a free song together. A person is defined by much more than a single life event. Natasha Trethewey uses her confusion and hurt that she experienced as pieces for an artwork that has yet to be finished. By writing Native Guard, Trethewey recreates herself like a disjointed collage. Using gut wrenching poetry as her medium, Trethewey uses her words to represent a self portrait of her struggles. Giving the readera chance to immerse themselves completely within Native Guard , her audienceis a key element throughout the book. You, as the reader, become an empty shell for Trethewey to build herself anew; a skeleton structure for a new identity. Instead of showing herself to the reader entirely, Trethewey uses her own complex emotions to establish intimacy with the audience. You experience her emotions as raw as she writes them. In her poem, After Your Death, Trethewey seems to walk you through her actions, I found it half eaten, the other side / already rotting, or like another I plucked / and split open being taken from the inside, (13). When you look at this at face value it seems meaningless, monotonous, and something that shouldn t be included in a poem about mourning. Nevertheless, Trethewey lets her emotions and thoughts seep through specific words of the poem. With phrases such as rotting, split, and plucked you can see a hidden aggressiveness that only shows itself

She makes several important points, which show us the reason why this is happening and what effects it has on people. The article shares her arguments and analysis of the situation, and this review will look at and evaluate them. The article was written in 2002 in New York, and the location is not accidental because in North America alone, Levi Strauss closed twenty two plants leaving 13,000 people unemployed. shut down twenty two plants and lay off 13,000 North American workers between November 1997 and February 1999 (Klein, N., (2002) No Logo). The main purpose of this article is to raise awareness and inform about exploitation of people as cheap workforce in factories by big companies, who found a way of doing it without the risk of being sued and closed down. This allows them to spend minimal amount of money on product manufacture, resulting in maximum profit, therefore more money can be spent on advertising to build stronger brandimage. Manufacture cost and process is not as important as brand image, because product is something that is made in factory; a brand is something that is bought by a customer (Klein, N., (2002) No Logo.) Appearing regularly in Western pop culture, such as, movies, music, television shows, and advertising, the city of Dubai has come a long way from its humble origins. The purpose of this paper is to look at what contributing economic and cultural factors, throughout history, that have contributed to the explosive growth of Dubai, with the early establishment of trade being a key feature. To fully understand the scale of development that has taken place, it is required to understand some of the history that has led to its current status as a leader in the Arabian Gulf regional economy and a luxury travel destination. Though the area that would later become Dubai had been settled since approximately 2000 BCE, the first recording in modern history dates to 1822. Initially known as Debai, the area was home to the Bani Yas tribe. Originally a dependency of Abu Dhabi, the village sustained itself by fishing, pearl diving, and minor sea trade. On June 9, 1833, led by Maktoum Bin Butti Al Maktoum, 800 members of the Al Bu Falasah clan peacefully took over the village and established the al Maktoum dynasty, which still rules Dubai, and the UAE, to this day. My Life, Home Life And Spiritual Life Personal barriers are obstructions put in place by old Scott that negatively affect New Scott s achievement in his work life, home life and spiritual life. Barriers are created by being hurt or let down in some way and then swearing to not have it happen again. These barriers end up hindering me in doing what I needto do to succeed and be a new person that does not have those restrictions holding me back. In my college years I had to be very fiscally due to the fact that I could not count on anyone to help me out with my expenses. I am not bitter about this fact, quite the opposite; I cherish the fact that I was able to make it completely through my undergraduate career without having to rely on someone else. There were rough times that in which I had absolutely no money and missed out on opportunities to travel and gain valuable experiences. I have also been put in the situation where emergency expenses have come up and I have needed money and not been able to get it. This has happened with medical bills, tuition, rent and other very important things. So personally I have erected a barrier within myself to save as much money as possible when I have it. There are things I may need but because it is a certain percentage of my income or what not I neglect it, essentially kicking the can down the road until I do have enough money. The barrier that I have created was due to seeing my mom struggle with money even still in her 40 s and not saving any money throughout her career.

In years past, females were discouraged from entering certain professions, as the general consensus was that jobs that required intense levels of higher training were male only jobs. As things stand now, females, a group constituting approximately half of our nation, are unable to achieve such ends because the educational system puts them at a disadvantage by marginalizing them and placing their needs in learning below those of males. Granted, this is not the case in every school. Many females grow to become very successful individuals and receive the luxury of having teachers who care about their education, who see all in the classroom as equally important to the learning process. However, in a growing number of schools, some form of discrimination, no matter how subtle, exists. If we want to grow as a nation, we need to address this problem and allow all to have an equal chance at success. Perhaps women in our society have it much better than in earlier generations. Perhaps they indeed are afforded more opportunities to receive an education, and a whole new world of job opportunities is open to them that had not existed previously. But by allowing such discrimination to continue to exist, in any form, we convey the message that as a society, we still somehow wish to retain some sense of separateness between the capabilities of the two genders.
