How Pentecostalism Is One Of The Major Denomination

Pentecostalism Pentecostalism is one of the major denominations of Protestant
Christianity that originated from the Holiness Revival of the 19th century. The
Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at Bethel Bible College,
established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual
gift that demonstrated as evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type
of baptism experienced in chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost.
On January 1st of 1901, Agnes Ozman, a student at Bethel Bible School, was the
first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The Holy Spirit. This
marks the beginning of the Pentecostal Revival. In 1905, Parham began preaching
in Houston, Texas where he began a smaller bible school. According to Kevin
Sack, a journalist for The New York Times, an African American pastor named
William Seymour would attend Parham s services though he was made to sit
outside the room and listen through a cracked door. Parham s teachings of baptism
with the Holy Spirit enveloped Seymour, who took this new theology to Los
Angeles in 1906 where he temporarily pastored a small African American Holiness
Church. The church rejected Seymour s claims on tongues as proof of baptism with
The Holy Spirit. The pastor of the church, Julia Hitchins, was outraged by Seymour s
sermon and kicked him out of the church. Seymour moved in with a friend of his,
A Research on Interaction Design
Within this essay i will be writing about interaction design i will cover my chosen
subject in detail via the extensive research i have gathered. I will define and analyse
interaction design using key examples of this design practise both historical and
contemporary.
I have chosen to focus my essay on interaction design as I ve recently finished a
project on wave two witch my final out come was a design/ prototype for an
interactive phone application that allowed the user to get advise on editing there
CV in order to improve there chances of getting work. I focused my design to be
simple to use in hope that every user would be able to understand on how to easterly
with out any confusion navigate the app when using it. I have always been aware
about interactive ensign but that was the first time i practised it myself.
from the information i have gathered and what i have know before my definition
interaction design is pretty much built of the basis of graphic design itself you need
to have fundamental skills of knowing how to use the colour theory, typography,
follow the grid, point line and form most or even all the techniques used in graphic
design. Where as technology has improved these days interactive design has never
been used so much as it is today. Being used on loads of new interactive devices such
as, tablets computers, net books, phones iPhones blackberries apps, television, ATM

The Concept Of Corporate Social Responsibility
The concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been developed for
decades and it has been conceptualized in a number of ways. The business only can
get success if there is interaction between all stakeholders in the company. The
business organization of any form whether it is small or large, are seen as a
creation of society and their survival is only dependent on the society. Socially
responsible firms view CSR as a source of competitive advantage by attracting a
higher quality and quantity of job applicants (Fombrun and Shanley 1990; turban and
greening 1996). CSR can be defined as that strategy which manages the business
processes to produce an overall positive impact on society. CSR is a concept in
which the companydecides how to interact with its stakeholders on a voluntary
basis involving social as well as environmental concern. According to kotler and lee
(2005) CSR is an obligation undertaken in order to improve the welfare of the
society through on demand business application and contribution of corporate
resources Management, innovation and trends seem to come and go like fashion.
Ideas and practices are adopted and discarded, change, mutate and re form in an
ongoing process of exchange among stakeholders. (McManus, 2008, p.1068) CSR

Racism and Stereotyping in World of Warcraft: The inside look that the company

Massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) are played by millions of people
around the globe, and by one in five Americans (Entertainment Software
Association, 2015). Role playing games (MMORPGs) are a popular subcategory
which lets gamers take on a new character, created for the digital world, to play the
game. Three of the top five bestselling computer games in the US in 2014 were
MMORPGs, and three of them were from the fantasy genre: Diablo III: Reaper of

Warcraft was the most played MMORPG, with more than 12 million active players
and over 100 million accounts. While playing MMORPGs players are exposed to
Racism and Stereotyping from the game itself down to the gamers playing the game.
Research concerning race and video games usually focus on games set in the real
world such as games like the Grand Theft Auto franchise. It shows that minorities are
rarely represented, and that when they do appear the characters are usually racial
stereotypes (Burgess, Dill, Stermer, Burgess, Brown, 2011). Thus meaning that while

or 5p syndrome is not inherited, but is a random event. Doctors cannot treat or heal
patients with 5p syndrome but there is therapy. There are numerous symptoms. It s
found in all cultural backgrounds and happens in every 1 to 50,000 newborns.

The cat like cry is the most prominent feature and is usually one of the key factors in
diagnosing it. The chromosomes can also be analyzed and they can find the missing
or misplaced chromosome. In this case they would find that the fifth chromosome is
missing. They can also do a more detailed test called the FISH test. FISH stands for
Fluorescent in Situ Hybridization, it can detect the deletion.
Who has this disorder: A commonly asked question for all genetic disordersis Who
get s it ? The answer is simple. Anyone can be born with 5p syndrome. 5p syndrome
is not more prominent in any group of people. Since it is a random event that
happens in the fetal development it can happen in all cultures, genders, and
ethnicities. It happens in every 1 in 20,000 to 50,000 newborns and isn t very
common.
Inheritance: Cri Du Chat syndrome is not sex linked. It is caused by the deletion of
the 5th chromosome so it can happen to boys and girls. There is also no particular
chromosome it is located on. It s not on a chromosome it s a genetic disorder that is
caused by a missing chromosome. It is also neither dominant or recessive, the reason
being that it is not inherited because it is a random

How Did Napoleon Bonaparte Rise To Power
To do all that one is able to do, is to be a man; to do all that one would like to do, is
to be a god (Napoleon Bonaparte). NapolГ©on Bonaparte, named one of the
greatest conquers of history, rose to power for many reasons, but how did he
succeed? Was it because he took over the existing ministry of war, expanded it, and
made it more efficient, or was it because he was a brilliant general in the art of
war? Like all leaders Napoleon fell from power for economic and political reasons
that I will address later in this essay. Napoleon Bonaparte, in my opinion, was a
brilliant tactician, artist, and speaker. However, like all men with power, he pushed
the status quo too far and paid the consequences for his actions.

believe that these years are what shape thoughts and ideas that then turn into

The Factors Of Political Socialization

Similar to many of the things we are introduced to growing up as humans, our
political knowledge is one of the things that does not derive from one specific source.
Our thoughts on politics is constantly evolving and maturing as we encounter
different agents throughout our lives. These agents of political socialization include
our family, our education, the media, and many more. They shape our values and
beliefs from the moment we are born to the moment we die. Our family environment
contributes to our interest in politics in the future, our education teaches us the
fundamentals of American government and politics, and lastly the media
continuously shapes our view of the government. All three of these agents, are
crucial in allowing us to understand ourselves and our beliefs today. Many intellects
will argue that family is one of the most important agents in regards to political
socialization (cite). This comes as no surprise, as children we are incapable of
making rational decisions for ourselves. Thus, our parents and family members are
tasked with making the best possible choices for us instead. In fact, as children we
want to please our parents so we are receptive to their views, this includes political
beliefs. (Stockwell, Chapter 6: Public Opinion, Political Socialization, and the
Media.) Furthermore, our family can also have an effect on how we view politics in
our future. Studies show Children whose parents

About the Art of Persuasion is a title written by the not so famous, (but extremely

purpose in drawing the reader in. Also; the extremely long title is a little hint of what
Heinrichs entails in his book, an endless supply of information on how to correctly
and influentially utilize rhetoric, the art of persuasion.
The book is divided into five sections, each one being subdivided into different
strategies on how to use rhetoric to your advantage, in any given situation.

She interprets that the tape is actually of a murder, because of the way he refers to it,

The next section is titled Defense. It goes over logical fallacies, their downfalls, how
to spot them, and much more. Such as, the Seven Deadly Sins of rhetoric, and the
defensive tools of practical wisdom.
A fallacy, by definition, is an argument that uses poor reasoning. Before one uses a
fallacy, it s important to have full understanding or else you risk losing your whole
ethos aspect of your argument. Heinrichs gives three important parts to detecting
fallacies. All you have to do is look for a bad proof, the wrong number of choices, or
a disconnect between the proof and the conclusion. (Heinrichs 146)
The following two sins are Tautology and False Choice. Tautology just repeats the
premise, or principle of the argument. The example given was Fan: The Cowboys
are favored to win since they are the better team. (Heinrichs 155) Fundamentally,
tautology is the same thing that gets repeated in different words. Next, we have
False Choice. False choice is the many questions fallacy, in which two or more
issues are mixed into one. A related fallacy, the false dilemma, offers the audience
two choices when more actually exist. (Heinrichs 163). The objective with this sin is

Saint Francis of Assisi s life was one to remember because of all the great things he
did, and did you know, he even celebrated the first Natively known Christmas. The
things that Saint Francis of Assisi did were truly remarkable, they way he cared for
the poor meant a lot to those people in need, and he left an everlasting effect on
everyone s life. Saint Francis of Assisi had a great childhood, but as he got older
his father began to beat him. He lived the life of luxury, and was the the son of a

life of luxury, for a life devoted to Christianity, and God. He was very devoted into
living in poverty, and he rebuilt the Christian church. He is the patron Saint of

hearing God s voice. He insisted that this was his calling and his adulthood
confirmed it. His childhood had a major influence on his coming to the christian
church and also being with the poor. Since he and his family spent money lavishly,
He was able to show an instinctive sympathy to the poor; it still flowed in channels

An Analysis Of The Torso Of Aphrodite
During my visit to the Tampa Museum of Art, I observed and viewed various
pieces from The Classical World exhibit. While I observed numerous works, I was
drawn to a specific piece due to its uniqueness when compared to the other pieces in
the exhibit. In this paper, I will be describing The Torso of Aphrodite, using my own
viewpoints and the elements of formal art analysis, in order to explain the uniqueness
when compared to other pieces in The Classical World exhibit.
The Torso of Aphrodite was constructed in the 1st century A.D. and is made entirely
of marble. The torso used to belong to a life sized version statue of The Greek goddess
of love Aphrodite. From the moment I saw this piece, I knew I was attracted to it in a

As the robe simultaneously conceals and reveals, it blends nicely into the lower part
of her torso. Her body is proportioned smoothly, with no areas of obvious fault or
imperfection. I think having those sensual characteristics adds to her overall beauty.
This sculpture is comprised of marble, and due to its large size it was easier for me
to develop an impression about the piece because I can focus on specific parts in
more detail. To understand the piece, a very visual and detailed perspective is
needed. Judging by the way the thighs are represented, it appears as though she is
striking a contrapposto pose, which makes her appear static. She has most of her
weight shifted on her left leg, but not all of it The focal point of this piece I believe
is her robe. It skillfully falls down her left side, while leaving other parts exposed,
drawing the main attention of this piece. Few different types of shapes are
displayed, except the shape of her legs and the form of the robe. The physical
texture was smooth throughout the entire piece, partly due to the material it is made
of. There is only this one texture, as her robe and body parts all feel the same.
The title of this piece is Torso of Aphrodite/Venus . This piece was discovered
outside of Rome in 1771. Afterwards, it was purchased by a wealthy English
collector, who displayed it in his home. Today, the piece resides at the

Compagnie, or The Dutch East India Company, was the first multinational
corporation in history (Shorto 103). In the interest of conserving space, the
Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie will be shortened to the VOC in this paper.
Founded in 1602, the VOC was primarily a trading company, but also had the
power to declare wars, create colonies, and negotiate treaties (Briney). The VOC s
massive reach across the globe and its ability to transport large quantities of goods
caused entire populations to rely on foreign tradeto survive (Shorto 104). Even Japan,

Early Amsterdammers were at war with water because the settlers needed to drain
the marshy terrain to obtain land suitable for building and farming. The owner of
any given parcel of land was responsible for seeing that the dykes that held back the
water were maintained and keeping their land dry. If one neglected their duties,
water would sweep in and cause destruction to not only the negligent party s land,
but everyone s (Mak 11). Flooding caused destruction of property and crops and
essentially lowered chances of survival. Because it was vital to cooperate with
others, despite potential differences and disagreements, the Dutch developed a
pragmatic and collaborative outlook. Draining water to create land also affected
the area s geography. To remove the water, it had to be directed into canals that ran
directly into the ocean or natural rivers (Mak 11). These canals proved to be an
advantage, as traders could easily anchor and load boats directly where their homes
or stores were. Although this made loading goods easier, traders first had to take
convoluted routes through twisting rivers to sell their wares because their boats were
unfit for the open sea. Then, with the invention of a ship called a cog, trading routes
could now stretch across seas. The cogs themselves could also carry five to ten times
more cargo than earlier boats. Because Dutch traders could go to farther ports to
trade, their cities, namely Amsterdam, became
Military Leadership Development During The Military
Military Leadership Development
The military has many various levels of leadership. There is a ranking system in
the military is used to universally show the level in which an individual possesses
in the military. Level Education can also play a role in leadership in the military.
While enlisted ranks do not require a college education, that is the backbone of the
leadership in the military. When you first join the military, your rank will vary
between pay grades of E 1 to E 4. These are the introduction ranks of the military.

schools are made to break down the soldier and build them up so when the soldier is

the respect of his/her subordinates. Once those schools are completed the soldiers
will begin the careers as NCOs but would not be the end of the learning. To move up
in the ranks even further, the soldier must continue to demonstrate great leadership
and selflessness. There will be more school needed to be able to move up which will

The diverse types of NCO ranks have different responsibilities. A squad leader or
sometimes referred to section leader is normally running by E 5/E 6 ranks. As
stated in the ArmyStudyguied.com These NCOs live and work with their soldiers
every day and are responsible for their health, welfare and safety. These squads,
section and team leaders ensure that their soldiers meet standards in personal
appearance and teach them to maintain and account for their individual and unit
equipment and property. The NCO enforces standards and develops and trains
soldiers daily in MOS skills and unit missions. (FM 7 22.7, 2015). The next level is

The Elementary School At The Age Of Five
A typical seven year old child provided they started Kindergarten at the age of five,
would probably be in the second grade. The grade level a lot of times depends on
the birthday month of the child and the month cutoff determined by the county, for
example in order for a child to be enrolled in Kindergarten in Gaston county, he
must be five years old on or before August 31st of that school year ( Kindergarten
and Pre Kindergarten Registration ). The child s family situations and history will
vary from child to child, even classrooms and schools will vary. In the Gaston
county school district alone there are approximately 20 elementary schools out of
a total of 55. A lot of these schools are located in rural areas like that of Chapel
Grove Elementary or in suburban areas such as that of Gardner Park Elementary.
Each one is going to be different. Classroom size is going to vary as well. My son
s second grade class consists 19 students where as a school such as Gardner Park
may have more. My nephew, who is private school, is in a classroom with only 9

This may also vary due to family situations or even culture. For example, students

2014. This is significantly higher than the 800 million cost associated with
bringing new drugs to the market in 2003. These figures are so high in part
because they take into account the opportunity cost of investing money in drugs
while it could have been invested elsewhere. Another portion of the cost is also
due to the failure of drugs. The probability of a pioneer drug advancing past the
clinical studies is around 8%. So in order to be profitable, large companies have to
invest their time and resources in more than one drug at a time. For every drug they
put on the market there are several that took up resources but ultimately did not
make it. In addition to the cost, the whole process can take from 10 to 15 years. In
order to get a drug approved the manufacturers have to demonstrate that it is safe and
effective. First, a manufacturer must submit an Investigational New Drug Application
(IND). This shows the results of tests done on animals, which are known as
preclinical trials. It also explains how they would conduct the trials on humans. If the
FDA decides that it is reasonably safe to proceed, then the manufacturer can move to

Black Ink Lab
The given purpose of this lab was to separate and identify the pure substances in the
sludge, however, the lab had a larger purpose. In this lab, we used our newly found
knowledge of characteristic properties to fulfill the given purpose. It taught us how to
use critical thinking and grit when faced with a challenge, and to use all of the tools
that IPS this year has taught us. In a nutshell, characteristic properties are properties
that will remain the same, no matter the volume of a given substance. Many scientists
and students use these valuable properties to identify substances because the property
will remain the same. An example of this is with density. Any sample of water will
have the same density, therefore whether one has a whole... Show more content on

We found black ink, boiling chips, water, isopropanol, aluminum foil, and one
unnamed substance. To determine the identity of the black ink, we tested the
density, freezing point, paper chromatography, color, and odor. To find the density
of the black ink, we found the mass and volume of a portion of the black ink and
divided the two. We then did the same thing to the black ink that we found in the
lab, we found that both substances had a density of 0.98 g/ml. Next, we found the
freezing point by putting a sample of the black ink from the lab and the black ink
from the sludge in different test tube. We put these test tubes in an ice bath with
salt and measured the temperature with thermometers. Unfortunately we ran out
of time, and inferred that we had chilled the ink to the coldest temperature we
could create. We found that both of the inks had a freezing point of less than 7
degrees fahrenheit. In addition, we used paper chromatography to determine the
identity of the substance. The results were that both strips of paper had the same
colors on it, but our ink appeared more linear and the ink from the lab appeared
more mixed or tie dyed. I believe that this is a result of our ink coming in contact
with other substances, and the inks are still the same because the colors were the
same. Lastly, we made observations about both inks, such as color and odor. Both
has a dark purple color and did not have a particular odor. The next substance we
tested were the boiling chips. We found the density, color, odor, and effect on
boiling water to identify this substance. To find the density, we divided the mass
by the volume (which we found by using water displacement) for both our boiling
chips and the ones we had in the lab. We also tested the effect on boiling water
using 4 flasks of the same amount of water. 2 flasks contained the same amount of
boiling chips, we used two flasks to prove that boiling chips always had a
Symptoms Of Stereotypes In The Black Swan
The Black Swan is a psychologically based thriller in which Nina, a dedicated
ballerina who belongs to a highly elite company in New York City, strives to one
day become prima ballerina. She covets the role of Swan Queen in her company s
upcoming rendition of Swan Lake . As she is shy and innocent in her demeanor, Nina
is the epitome of the character of the White Swan. On the other hand, the part of the
Black Swan is seductive, dark, and passionate. The artistic director of the company,
Thomas, doubts her ability to embody both roles but through a shocking display of
boldness by Nina, he decides she is capable of taking on both roles, and awards her
the part. The rest of the film is dedicated to showing her insatiable dedication to

One of the most common symptoms associated with schizophrenia is delusions, or
false beliefs bases on incorrect inferences about reality. For example, Nina believes
that Lily, a ballerina who is new to the company, is trying to replace her and steal
her role. This is an inaccurate belief because Lily never displayed any motivation
to steal the role and was also nothing but kind and friendly to Nina. Nina also
experiences hallucinations, which are another symptom commonly associated with
this disorder. Hallucinations are false sensory perceptions that are experienced
without an external source. They can be auditory, visual, olfactory, or
somatosensory. In Nina s case, she experiences mostly visual and somatosensory
hallucinations such as seeing herself pull a feather out of her skin or her physical
transformation into the Black Swan when she perceives herself growing feathers
and wings. While genetics plays a role in the development of schizophrenia, we
cannot come to the conclusion that anyone in Nina s family was a schizophrenic or
that it would be the sole cause of her developing the disorder. Environmental stress is
shown to also contribute to the development and Nina is overcome with the pressure
to achieve perfection and to uphold her company s reputation which creates an
atmosphere of extreme stress that she must cope with. There are both
pharmacological and psychosocial treatments for schizophrenia such as the drugs
haloperidol and chlorpromazine and the participation in social skills training; neither
of these treatments were referenced in this film. Schizophrenia is also commonly
confused with dissociative identity disorder (DID), also referred to as multiple
personality disorder. This condition is the occurrence of two or more distinct
identities in the same person. Many people that are diagnosed with DID, report being
abused in their

Hippotherapy Intervention Paper
Problem Statement Some difficulties that children with special needs may face are
speech and language disorders, physical impairments, and other conditions that may
make everyday tasks more challenging. Speech therapy can help people improve their
ability to communicate verbally, physical therapy can improve their gross motor
functions, balance, posture, etc., and occupational therapycan help people do common
tasks they struggle with, such as cooking (Evans, n.d.; Bender McKenzie, 2008). If
children receive therapy for certain diagnoses early in their lives, they may improve
enough that they would no longer even need therapy (Evans, n.d.). Hippotherapy,
which is a form of therapy treatment that utilizes the movements of a horse, is... Show

Each child has goals that they are trying to reach, and, every day the child is present,
their therapists write down observations to determine what percentage the child has
improved in their set goals, which gives them a way to measure the child s success.
The study I am proposing has an experimental, qualitative design, as I plan to
compare the percent each student improves during hippotherapy sessions with the
amount improved in classroom therapy sessions to determine if the effects of
hippotherapy on children with special needs are different from those of conventional
speech therapy. I will then use this data to answer the following question: What are
the effects of hippotherapy on improvement for children who take occupational,
physical, and speech therapy that are between the ages of two and seventeen as
compared to those of conventional therapy? This research will contribute to existing
research being conducted for hippotherapy by comparing its effects on children to
those of conventional therapy, which can later influence parents and therapists to
consider therapy earlier in children s lives and look into more unconventional forms of
The Age Of White Collar Crime
Welcome to the age of white collar crime. A time when the words thieves and
businessmen go hand in hand. White collar criminals don t get their hands dirty in
their work. They use their heads to get what they want instead of using a little
muscle. These criminals are just as dangerous as the rapists and murderers. In these
times, even the most seemingly respectable people are suspected of white collar
crimes.
President Clinton and the first lady Hillary Clinton have been tangled up in the
Whitewater and Travelgate business ventures. Although the two have not been
formally charged with any wrongdoing, there is a committee currently investigating
their dealings and charges are not out of the question for either of them. In Michael
Isikoff s and Mark Hosenball s Newsweek article Cracks in the Wall, they describe
the Clintons dealings with Whitewater and the possible consequences of them: The
Senate Whitewater committee is considering asking for perjury charges against
Susan Thomas and Maggie Williams, Mrs. Clintons chief of staff, in connection with
her testimony about the removal of documents from Vince Foster s office (Isikoff
29). This case goes to show that there presently a growing problem with our country,
and it is called white collar crime. White collar crimes are very numerous in kind.
New ones are always being invented by someone with a good scam. Embezzlement,
tax evasion, and fraud are some of the more popular kinds. A person who has the

Have you ever been mesmerized by the giant cliffs, massive ridges, or the wide
array of beautiful colors? If you answered yes, this paper is just for you! After
reading this, you will be well educated about the Grand Canyon.
The Grand Canyon is in the northwest corner of Arizona, bordering Utah and Nevada.
Did you know that more than five million people visit Grand Canyon National Park
per year? The Grand Canyon is roughly 280 miles long, 18 miles wide, and in some
places more than 1 mile deep! The volume of this enormous park is estimated to be
over 5.5 trillion cubic yards, now that is impressive! While the Colorado River

Next, these rocks undergo erosion, which is the process of moving sediments from
one place to another. Then, these sediments are deposited all at one place and over
time they start to converge and cement as layers which are also known as strata. As
time keeps going, new sediments deposit and cement together over old ones forming
new layers. This is a repetitive process that eventually build up layers to make up a
Sedimentary rock. Approximately 40 major sedimentary rock layers exposed in the
Grand Canyon National Park area range in age from about 200 million to nearly 2
billion years old. As you can see, sedimentary rock formation takes an excessive
amount of time. So you now know how sedimentary rocks are formed and how the
Colorado River majorly eroded all the rock creating canyons. But here comes the
million dollar question: where did all the rocks come from? The answer to that
question is The Continental Drift. The Earth s continents are not fixed in place, but
rather float on a sea of molten rock, meaning that they move around quite a bit.
Over 250 million years, that quite a bit can turn into land masses moving thousands
of miles. Moreover, the Earth is made up of 20 Tectonic plates. Seven of these plates
are very large and consist of entire continents or sea floors. The plate that the Grand
Canyon is located on is called The North American Plate . At one time, this plate was
considerably further south and consequently had a very different climate than

recession during the late 1980s, investing in new process and product technologies
and closing older mills. Today s steel industry is technologically sophisticated,
employing over 189,000 American production workers in jobs paying about 55%
above the average for all U.S. manufacturing. The United States is the largest steel
producer in the world, producing 112 million tons of raw steel in 2000, 12% of total

because of world steel overcapacity resulting from economic downturns in Asia. The

high quality steel and steel products at competitive prices. Nucor was the first in the
industry to adopt a number of new products and innovative processes, including thin

and competing in international markets. The industry itself does not allow for

Hurricane Floyd Hurricane
Can you imagine being in a hurricane that lasts for over 312 hours. That s exactly

Hurricanes are massive storms that can get up to 600 miles wide. Hurricane Floyd
included many details common to caused damage and destruction to property and
lives that affected the region but the area has recovered in its aftermath. Most
hurricanes that hit the United States begin either in the Caribbean or the Atlantic.
Many of the worst start as seedlings coming off the coast of Africa. Like all tropical
cyclones, a hurricane needs the warm water of the tropics, which feeds a stormwith
energy, in order to form. Tropical cyclones are like giant engines that use warm,
moist air as fuel. That is why they form only over warm ocean waters near the
equator. The warm, moist air over the ocean rises upward from near the surface.
Because this air moves up and away from the surface, there is less air left near the
surface. Another way to say the same thing is that the warm air rises,... Show more

Discipline In Home Life In Ian, Trina, And Juvenile Crimes
Discipline is defined as, the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of
behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience. Children s actions and behavior
are all based on how disciplined they are in their home life. Without discipline, I think
maturity is expected to not come as early in age as it would for someone who is
taught the differences between right and wrong during their childhood years. When
children are maturing, they need to have support and discipline from their guardians
to succeed and become good independent adults without getting into trouble with the
law. In chapter 8, Stevenson introduces us to Ian, Trina, and Antonio. All three of
these characters were sent to juvenile prisonfor various crimes they had committed.
Each of their stories had one thing in common, neglect.
Parents are primarily responsible for meeting their children s needs. However, there
are usually multiple and interacting contributors to parenting and to neglect (Howard
Dubowitz). In chapter 8, all of the characters faced traumatic home life
circumstances. They each faced abandonment at such a young age. They were
abused and neglected by their own parents. This set bad examples for each of these
kids at such a young age. This made all three of them run into problems with the
American Justice System because of individual juvenile crimes they each had made.
Ian, Trina, and Antonio were all three convicted of different crimes but in my
opinion, they all link back to one

Religious Cults being manipulative, abusive and exploitative exploitive
Cults are developing and flourishing, as they cause a profound suffering to

Religious cults are the parasites among religious institutions feeding on the insecurity

their members by being; manipulative, abusive and exploitative.

Many members say that they were not told about the
mass murder when preparing for the end of the world. As doctor Speciosa Wandira
Kazibwe says, this well orchestrated mass murder was perpetuated by malicious
criminals that were disguised as religious people ( Atlanta). Many members of the
group sold their belongings and gave up their money to the cult leaders, as they were
demanded to do so. As on of the former cult member says, Credonia was obsessed
with
the desire to obtain the property of her followers, (Snow 77). The cult leaders claim
that
they have supernatural power and abilities as well as exclusive access to come form of
universal truth. This idea acts an alluring method for people to join the cult. Many
religious cults are manipulating people in terms of forbidding sleep, talking, medical
care, and talking away children from their parents. The Cult the movement for the
restoration of the Ten Commandments of God, compelled the cult members to

to

Argumentative Essay About Gay Adoption
Corri Fairfull
Discursive Essay Gay Adoption
Gay adoption is a subject which is widely debated. However over recent years gay
adoption has allowed for most gay couples who want to adopt young children and
give them a good quality of life, which they would have if they lived with their
biological parents or a heterosexual couple, to do so.
One positive view of gay adoption is that it gives the gay couple the chance to start
their own family and give a child in care a new start to life in a loving home. This
will allow the couple to love and care for the child just as much as they would if
the child was living with their own biological parents. Gay couples who want to
adopt a child will give the same loving family home just like a heterosexual couple
or single parent would. For some children, living with a gay couple may be
something they haven t experienced before. However finding a family who love the
child and appreciate them for who they are, also encouraging them with all aspects of
their life and supporting them all the way through their life is what matters most to
children.
Another positive view about gay adoption is that it means a child in care will
receive the opportunity to get the benefit of new parents who are going to give
them the best possible life with parents who are healthy, in a stable relationship and
have a good financial support system in place. Since there are many children up for
adoption, gay couples often adopt children who are older as babies
The World Of Work For Women In The 1800 s
What are two ways women s domestic duties are affected by those jobs performed
outside the home? Throughout history, women have made major economic
contributions to their societies and families through their labor (Lindsey, 2011, pg.
273). However, there is old rumors that state women clearly were declined the
opportunities to bound in any form of clamorous work of any kind. Though, that is
no longer the case today, for many women join the men in the fields, to help process
the crops in order to provide much needed nutrients for their families; than ever
before. To explain the world of work for women, sociologists focus on four major
types of production in which women have traditionally engaged: producing goods or
services for consumption... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, all work makes an economic contribution, but the unpaid work activities
related to the home have been marginalized in economic rendering of production
According to Riane Eisler (2007:16 as cited in Lindsey, 2011, pg. 277). Meaning
that for human survival, and human development to be successful women s work
needs to be valued, while women are taking on the responsibilities of caregivers to
others; as well as their own. In addition to the many task these women provide such
as their contribution to their household chores, managing the household income,
childbearing; and caring for the elderly; these jobs are all considered unpaid work
to which these women will never receive any form of income for the work they
provided. In the United States alone more than 40, 000 dollars annually would be
paid out yearly, if these women were being paid for services rendered in those
areas; such as cooking, cleaning, ironing, care givers; and financial advisor.
Meaning, at the global level, if the unpaid work of women were added to the world s
economy, it would expand by one third, but on the positive side, the economic reality
of women s unpaid productive work is gaining public and government attention

The Jim Crow Rights
The shadow becomes known. Big groups, small groups, militants, and peacemakers,

individuals. That s who my ancestors of yesterday were and that s who I am today.
People think that president Lincoln, Congress, and the Emancipation Proclamation
freed all slaves, but it was Slaves who freed themselves from slavery. African
Americans always fought for their freedom, nobody gave it to us and we will
continue to fight until we get what we deserve. The emancipation proclamationdid
nothing for slavery but freed slaves that were already free for fighting alongside with
the north. Lincolns proclamation, freed not a single slave who was not already
entitled to freedom under legislation passed by congress the previous year. Without

to the pot they pissed in, but as times changed we started to gain and maintain. Nearly
100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans in Southern states
still inhabited a starkly unequal world of disenfranchisement, segregation, and
various forms of oppression, including race inspired violence. Jim Crow laws

South for three quarters of a century beginning in the 1890s. The laws affected almost

Analysis of Behind Grandma s House
In the poem Behind Grandma s House , Gary Soto writes about an experience he
had as a young boy. He speaks of himself as being a nerdy Spanish boy who wants
attention. He screams out for attention by acting out in negative ways. Most know,
to bring attention to one s self, one can acquire it by acting negatively or positively,
but negative attention brings punishment. Soto obtains his grandmothers attention at
the end of the poem, but he may have regretted it. Gary Soto s Behind Grandma s
House is a 1952 free verse poem that uses imagery to suggest the speaker s
perspective of the story. From the beginning of the poem, Soto depicts himself as a
ten year old who wanted attention. He also depicts the era by which the setting of the
poem is written. He states, At ten I wanted fame , the wordfame standing for his
intense need for attention (1). In the next line he said, I had a comb / And two
Coke bottles, a tube of Bryl cream (1 2). By this he meant, he had thick glasses and
slicked back hair, and for that era, thick glasses were for nerds, and the slicked back
hair was the fashion in the 1950 s. In addition, a slang word in the 1950 s was Daddy
O , who by which Soto refers to a priest(17). He states, No way / Daddy O to an
imaginary priest (16 17). Since Soto uses the word priest, and not pastor or
reverend, this indicates the person for whom he imagined calling Daddy O was a
Catholic male (17). Soto uses the word Chale toward the imaginary priest, which
Obedience Is the Bottom Line of Christian Life
Obedience to authority is everywhere. Whether it is a student obeying the teacher,
citizens following the laws or a child obeying his or her parents, there will always
be a scenario of obedience to authority. There are different levels of obedience
ranging from a group of people following their leader, such as on a sports team, to
extreme religious cults. The word obedience come from the Latin word Obaudrie,
which means to listen well. Obedience is defined as compliance to the plan;
conformity to the pattern; observance of the rules; loyalty to the standards and
submission to another s will. Obedience is carrying out the given direction
cheerfully and quickly. Obedience is the bottom line of the Christian life yet it plays
a vital role in the formation of character of a person. Obedience is part of the
foundation of society. Without obedience, nothing would exist but chaos and
confusion. Human individuality is often undermined by the blind obedience humans
feel towards those in position of power. In order for humans to maintain their
individuality and a stable society, a balance between obedience and independence
must be found. To obey means doing what God says in the timing and manner that
He says to do it. We must then know what His instructions are. We cannot comply
with something we do not understand. The Holy Spirit assists us in relating God s
commands to our situation and helps us determine the wise choice. The true meaning
of obedience has changed over the course of

These widespread defaults (and related foreclosures) had effects far beyond the
housing market. Home loans are often packaged together, and converted into
financial products called mortgage backed securities . These securities were sold to
investors around the world. Many investors assumed these securities were
trustworthy, and asked few questions about their actual value.
Credit rating agencies gave them high grade, safe ratings. Two of the leading sellers
of mortgage backed securities were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Because these
companies were chartered by Congress, many believed they were guaranteed by the
federal government. This allowed them to borrow enormous sums of money, fuel the
market for questionable investments, and put the financial system at risk.
The decline in the housing market set off a domino effect across the U.S. economy.
When home values declined and adjustable rate mortgage payment amounts
increased, borrowers defaulted on their mortgages. Investors globally holding
mortgage backed securities (including many of the banks that originated them and
traded them among themselves) began to incur serious losses. Before long, these
securities became so unreliable that they were not being bought or sold.
Investment banks such as Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers found themselves
saddled with large amounts of assets they could not sell. They ran out of the money
needed to meet their immediate obligations and faced imminent collapse. Other banks
The Importance Of Media
Media has changed dramatically over the years, technology has been a major
reason for the progression and its influence on society. The concept of media is
simple to get a message across to widespread of audiences by using print or
communication. Over the last five decades technology has improved rapidly for
the better use. Before the internet we had different stages in receiving news. There
was the telegraph, radio, newspapers, television and now the internet. There are
many reason why people need to be informed by media; it could be for
entertainment, educational or news worthy. Since information comes in many
forms it may be difficult to separate facts from nonfactual news. Newspapers,
television and radio programs make stories available from across the globe so we
are informed. This helps allow readers or viewers in Paris to access voices and
videos from United States, Tokyo, or Mexico. Books and magazines also offer a
more in depth look at a wide range of subjects. Gutenberg s invention of the movable
printing press, books were painstakingly handwritten and no two copies were exactly
the same. The printing press made the mass production of print media possible today.
Not only was it much cheaper to produce written material, but the new technologies
also made it easier for books to reach a wide audience. It s hard to overstate the
importance of Gutenberg s invention, which helped usher in massive cultural
movements in our society today. The information that is being
Alexander The Great Tactics
Throughout history, there have been many prestigious leaders of armies and
people, but none who were superior to Alexander the Great. Alexander the Great
was a young leader who had strong abilities to lead a great army. Throughout this
paper I am going to argue that Alexander the Great was the greatest leader of all
time. To prove my point, I will go into detail in: how he was brought up to be a
leader, his impressive military tactics, the Macedonian Conquest he led, and the

In 2002 a Greek American sculptor made national news headlines when he started
a campaign to carve a 73 meter tall likeness of Alexander the Great into a Greek
cliff. The carving would ve been about 4 times the size of Mount Rushmore. The
fact that people wanted to spend major parts of their life to create a monument of
Alexander the Great, a leader who died over two thousand years ago, in order to
remember him properly is completely crazy. Alexander was obviously a big part of
a lot of the people s life back when he led, and he managed to touch a lot of people
that are alive today. The sculptor and his supporters presented the project as a
mission to render justice and honor to the memory of the man who brought
Hellenism [and thus civilization] throughout the known world and to claim
Macedonia s Greekness once and for all (Dora, 489). The project although never
completed, was pushed by many locals. The locals wanted to preserve Alexander
with immense honor forever in the side of a mountain. This speaks volumes to how
much he impacted the people of that time. If he still has that impact today to push
people to want to make a sculpture of him over two thousand years after his death, he
must have been the greatest leader of all

The Sphere Of The Space
The dim glowing of the sphere lit up the pitch black of the room, only enough so
that the hand holding it could be seen. The large audience was a collection of quiet
oohing and aahing, barely audible whispers could be heard from where the sphere
was. It took only a second to recapture the audience s attention as the sphere started
to move around slowly, the glow grew stronger, now barely illuminating a body. The
person was controlling the sphere with such ease, as if it was just another extension
of their body. The sphere moved so fluidly over their hands and arms, gliding over
and in between finger tips before returning to its stationary position.
Everything suddenly stopped, the audience was still and the ball had returned to its

A smirk crossed her lips as she knew that the people were quite taken by it.
My name is Cecilia. As you can see, I am not getting burnt. This is not painful, this
is not harmful. That s why I can do this. Cecilia spoke for the first time since she
had been revealed, twirling the fire around her arms as she did before the lights
were cast down. She paused a moment more after rolling the fire between her fingers
and over her hands again. Embers from the fires had fallen beneath her feet and
immediately snuffed out before anything around her could catch flame.
The audience had become a roar of applause and cheer when she stopped. The
show was over and Cecilia turned away from the audience, snuffing out the ball of
fire in a clenched fist. Cecilia had left the stage area and headed towards a small
house, opening the door she was greeted by many others around her age or older.
Cilly that was a great performance. The audience loved you! She said being greeted
with a kiss, the girl being much taller than Cecilia and having to bend down to kiss
her. Cecilia returned with a smile, sitting down on a couch next to the taller girl.
Don t you get tired of me yet, Tora? Cecilia asked, before taking out a cigarette. She
put the vice between her lips before lighting it with a flame she produced with her
fingertips, taking a large puff, the smoke shooting out of her nose as opposed to her
Taking a Look at Hinduism
Many religions offer an exact path to the afterlife; illuminated by various rules and
regulations that one must follow to reach enlightenment. Hinduism, on the other
hand, is much more complex, offering multiple ways to achieve moksha and
providing many answers to the ancient question of what happens after we die? Many
people think that Hindus believe in many deities, but the Hindu concept of Godis
much broader than that. In fact, Hinduismitself encompasses much more than just
one specific set of religious beliefs. While some Hindus believe that God is a
divine being with certain identifiable attributes, others believe that God cannot be
defined and is an all pervading being that extends beyond everything. Although
some beliefs differ, the majority of Hindus see the concept of God in multiple
ways. Among these are the concepts of God as one and many, God and the soul,
God as sound, God as image, God in nature, cows, and avatara. One of Hinduism s
most distinguishing features is the concept of multiple gods. These multiple gods
are manifestations of the various powers of the divine. Hindus believe that the all
pervasive God is both one and many. Because this concept carries the idea of God
as an omnipresent being, everything can be seen as being God s form. Hindus
worship many Gods, but they also believe that the divine is singular or one. These
Gods are representations of different aspects of the overall God. Although their

Essay about Disney vs. Masculinity
Joseph Delia

Emile Zaslow
Disney vs. The Future of Men: How have our beloved animated movies affected the
men of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Thesis: The constructs of masculinity found in most Disney movies create an
environment of images that shape and define what young boys view as masculinity.
By presenting sexist relationships, physical expectations, and violence and dominance
to represent power, young boys are left feeling emotionally unattached and physically
inadequate.
How many Disney movies did you see as a child? How many of those movies did you
watch over and over again? And how many of the songs you so lovingly watched
over and over again can you still sing today? The Walt DisneyCompany has ... Show

After a while these images begin to shape what young boys know and what they
understand about the world around them. This is not an immediate effect, but
instead a slow accumulative effect that is much more subtle than we are aware of.
One of the biggest problems with this process is that the Disney conglomerate has
spanned over nearly five generations, so no one thinks to challenge the idea that an
animated Disney movie is a great way to entertain children while simultaneously
sharing with them a piece of traditional culture. One of the most destructive ways in
which classic animated Disney movies are providing young boys with false and
distorted images of masculinity, are the ways in which men are shown in
relationship to women. Most Disney movies revolve around a heterosexual
relationship containing a hero and heroine. Feminists have studied what these
characters tell girls about themselves, but it is just as important if not more
important to understand what these movies are telling boys about how real men
interact with and treat women. Often the message to boys both explicitly and
implicitly is that men should view women as objects of pleasure or as servants to
please them. A perfect example of this misrepresentation is in the movie Mulan. In
Mulan, and entire song called A Girl Worth Fighting For , explains what a man is
looking for in a woman. Some of these traits include cooking, cleaning, and looking
beautiful for her husband. This quote
Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
The book that I read for the assignment three is called The Jungle written by Upton
Sinclair. The jungle is a Fiction book that is based on the meat packing industry in
Chicago in early 20th century. Sinclair Upton was American author, socialist, and a
famous reformer of the early twentieth century. After the publication of this book,
Upton acquired fame, but he also caused public anger/disgust that ultimately lead to
the creation of FDA (Pure Foods and Drugs Act) in 1906 in the United States. During
his time, he wrote almost 100 books, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1943.
Another famous novel that he wrote was The Brass Check. After finishing the novel,
I felt like Upton really wanted to depict and emphasize the working environment...

about it? My answer to that is no, because there are so many other people who can

much power to the employer. In conclusion, History forgotten is history repeated

Death In Hispanic American Culture
When an individual dies, their death can greatly impact the loved ones they leave
behind. Each mourner may feel and perceive the death differently from one another,
but one common factor that can influence the mourner s beliefs, values, and views
about a person s death is their culture. Their culture can regulate the way the mourner
copes with the deathof a loved one, what they do with the physical deceased body,
and how they may honor the dead afterwards (Cartaret, 2011). For me, my culture is
relatively related to the Catholic, Hispanic American culture, which is a broad and
subjective category, but it is what I believe that guides my views towards life and
death. I have additionally chosen to learn about the cultural practices of Hinduismof

Firstly, on the day a Hindu Indian dies, the dead Hindu is brought home or right
outside the home by friends and family members, and the dead is laid on a floor
covered in cow feces because cow feces are seen as a sacred purifying agent.
Secondly, one designated family member will sprinkle the dead body with water and
cover the body with new clothes. Thirdly, the dead body is placed on a rope bed and
carried by loved ones to the burial site. Yet, only the men are allowed to go to the
burial site, and the women stay home to mourn. Fourthly, crying is not allowed at
the burial site because it believed that the dead will accidentally take in the tears and
mucus from the mourners, and that can have corrupting effects on the dead. Fifthly,
the body will usually then be cremated, and while the body burns, the lead mourner
will smash the skull of the dead. Opening of the head will release the soul and allow
it to go to its new residence (Bregman, 2009). These are the main events that happen

Enhancing a cloud based network could mean to make the network faster, safer,
efficient, cost effective and user friendly. The aim of this report is to discuss the
methods and techniques of trying to improve a cloud based network and what this
could mean. The outcome of the project being implemented will be to simulate a
cloud based campus network with optimum performance which then reflects its
results in charts and graphs making comparisons with one another. A variety of
aspects will be explored prior to simulating the network such as current
technologies, new protocols, servers, data centres, testing and availability.
Furthermore material on the software Opnet also known as Riverbed will be
provided because this will be used to simulate the final product. The purpose of the
project is to provide an insight into current matters which is then followed by
creating a cloud based network that is reliable, efficient, cost friendly and safe to
use for a university campus to utilise. Review of Literature Performance Problems
How They are Measured The literature within this report has been gathered using a
variety of sources such as websites, academic journals, eBooks and reports. When it
comes to cloud computing there are some major risks including security 87.5%,
availability 83.3% and performance 82.9% according to Kopp (2011). These are high
priority aspects when initially moving to cloud, however
Similarities Between Egypt And Mesopotamia
Integrated Research Paper Egypt and Mesopotamia Ancient Egypt and ancient
Mesopotamia are both a part of the world s first civilizations, and these two
civilizations have many similarities as well as differences. Ancient Egypt dates from
3100 310 B.C.E, and ancient Mesopotamia dates back to 3500 B.C.E all the way to
330 B.C.E. Mesopotamiawas a civilization that had many civilizations within it, while
ancient Egyptremained a uniform civilization that shared the same religious, political,
cultural life for three thousand years (Fiero, 2015). According to Glenn Perry,
Egyptians claim that their country its capital city in particular is the mother of the
world contains much truth if that means it is where history and civilization began
(Perry, 2016, p.56). Glenn Perry also states that there are many arguments on whether
Egypt was the first civilization or whether Mesopotamia was the first civilization, but
since there is very little documentation of the time period it is hard to know.
According to Dr. Andrew Jamieson, Ancient Mesopotamia, the land between the
rivers Tigris and Euphrates, is one of the most historically significant and
archaeologically rich regions in the world... (Jamieson, 2015, p.23). One thing both
authors agree on is that these two civilizations are important, because they mark the
beginning of human history. These two civilizations are known for their advanced
architecture, their different methods of art, and their gods and beliefs. These three
The Effects Of Binge Drinking On The Uk And The Health...
Introduction
Binge drinking is defined as people drinking plenty of alcohol in a short period of
time or get drunk (NHS, 2014). In other words, binge drinking is drinking alcohol
lead blood alcohol concentration (BAC) equal to or over 0.08g/dL. It means that
when men drink more than 5 units of drinks and women have over 4 units of alcohol
in around 2 hours is binge drinking.(NIH News,2014)Nowadays, binge drinking have
a large proportion among youths in the UK, which lead to the health problems to
them. In this essay, it will show the situation of adolescents of binge drinking in the

Situation
Binge drinking is a common issue in the UK. According to the Drinkaware (2015)
shows that the UK is one of the supreme countries of the rate of binge drinking in
Europe. And the circumstance of binge drinking is particularly round adolescents, for
example, under the investigation indicated that pupils are more conversant with beer
brands than biscuits. (Alcohol Concern, 2015) It indicates that teenagers know about
alcohol in early age, so have more chance to heavy drink. One of the reasons why, is
that most of the young people know about the alcohol though the internet or the
advertisement on TV. Due to the technology, is more wide range in recent years.
There are a high percentage of youths do not know the

Industry Challenges
Airlines must operate within a low margin, high fixed cost environment, making
profitability particularly sensitive to decreases in volume, either from
environmental factors (e.g., the September 11,2001 attacks) or from competition.
Moreover, the airline business is labor intensive. Labor costs as a percentage of
revenues ranges from a low of about 25 percent for the low fare airlines to almost 50
A Brief Look at Charlie Chaplin
Every day millions of Americans go to theaters with their families to enjoy movies.
Watching films has become one of the most popular activities to do. Although plenty
of people know of Charlie Chaplin, most do not know any real information about
him. Charlie Chaplin has been a major contributor to America s advancement in the
filmindustry from his innovative beginnings, and perseverance to improve and
succeed, to his overall achievements in history. Charlie Chaplin was born in South
London on April 16, 1889. He was the first child of Hannah and Charles Chaplin.
Charles was vaudeville actor. Hannah was a vaudeville singer. Charlie s father was
a drunk and he later left his family when he was three years old when he found out
his wife had an affair with another actor, Leo Dryden. They soon had a child named
George, who left to live with his father. Since Hannah was now a single mother,
she was struggling to find a way to provide for her children. She had another son
that was older than Charlie, from a previous relationship (Schwartz). Hannah s
singing alone was not enough to earn her the money to care for two boys. She took
up sweatshop work on a sewing machine she rented to earn extra income. Due to
the small amount of income they had, Charlie s family moved in and out of
orphanages and boys homes on a regular basis. Hannah s career as a singer ended
abruptly in 1894. She lost her voice during a performance. While the crowd was
getting rowdy and starting to throw things

Biography of Sylvester Stewart
Sly Stone was born in Dallas, Texas on March 15th, 1944. Sly Stone s original
birth name was Sylvester Stewart which later he selected to change his name for
the stage as Sly Stone after becoming a producer for Autumn Records. Known for
creating some of the best funk music of his time, Stone also collaborated with other
styles of music such as soul, rock, gospel, and psychedelia. He influenced Motown
and Stax as well which were the two most popular record companies producing
blues, jazz, and soul music. Stone s voice was raspy, yet when he sang, he sang
with upbeat and good vibe lyrics. Stone had a new style of music being created with
his band, a style in which held attitude and a point of view on what they believed in.
Sly and the Family Stone was an integrated band of blacks, whites, women, and men.
The freedom that everyone heard within the lyrics of Stone and the band, painted a
picture of how the band wanted the world to be. The band, especially Stone, held a
vision of a utopia for the world they lived in. Stone mastered many instruments at a
young age, but Stone was heard on the records mainly through this vocals being the
head singer and songwriter. However, often you could catch Stone playing the
keyboards or the guitar as well. Throughout Stone and his band s career, through the
years depending on what was going on in the world and personally in the band, the
music and lyrics did change. You could find yourself listening to an upbeat, message

Inpatient Sample from 2004 to 2009 to compare data for 3268 patients who

They found fistula repair and bowel resection to be independently associated with
higher mortality rates when compared to simple enterolithotomy repair with an odds

There is to date one retrospective review of laparoscopic assisted versus open
enterolithotomy of gallstone ileus by Moberg et al. [29]. Both groups had a
similar duration of operation (60 vs. 58 mins), similar median hospital stay (10 vs.
7 days), and similar complication rates (6 vs. 5). Only two laparoscopic
procedures were converted to open surgery for technical reasons. There were no
deaths in either group. In support of this is the publication of several recent case
reports demonstrating the successful use of laparoscopic assisted surgery for
gallstone management. [30 32] Sarli et al. [30] conducted successful laparoscopy
assisted procedures on three patients over 80 with gallstone ileus. All procedures
were accomplished in under an hour with no post operative complaints at six
months and no additional biliary surgery needed. Soto et al. [31] performed a
laparoscopic assisted enterolithotomy in a 86 year old female and a laparoscopic
disimpaction of the gallstone into the large bowel in a 76 year old male. The
patients remained asymptomatic at 8 month and 4 month follow up, respectiveily.
Montogomery et al. [32] described laparoscopic assisted enterolithotomy in two 76
year old females who remained asymptomatic at 4 month follow up. The overall
morbidity rate for these laparoscopic assisted studies was low, especially in terms
of major complications. Montgomery et al. [32] described one case of wound

one patient who developed acute myocardial infarction, and Soto et al. [31] reported

  • 2. How Pentecostalism Is One Of The Major Denomination Of... utumn Petrolina Hayes, Andrew Anthropology 130 22 February 2016 Pentecostalism Pentecostalism is one of the major denominations of Protestant Christianity that originated from the Holiness Revival of the 19th century. The Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at Bethel Bible College, established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual gift that demonstrated as evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type of baptism experienced in chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost. On January 1st of 1901, Agnes Ozman, a student at Bethel Bible School, was the first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The Holy Spirit. This marks the beginning of the Pentecostal Revival. In 1905, Parham began preaching in Houston, Texas where he began a smaller bible school. According to Kevin Sack, a journalist for The New York Times, an African American pastor named William Seymour would attend Parham s services though he was made to sit outside the room and listen through a cracked door. Seymour moved in with a friend of his,

The Factors Of Political Socialization Cheryl Lee Robin Datta November 13, 2015 Exam #2 Similar to many of the things we are introduced to growing up as humans, our political knowledge is one of the things that does not derive from one specific source. Our thoughts on politics is constantly evolving and maturing as we encounter different agents throughout our lives. These agents of political socialization include our family, our education, the media, and many more. They shape our values and beliefs from the moment we are born to the moment we die. Our family environment contributes to our interest in politics in the future, our education teaches us the fundamentals of American government and politics, and lastly the media continuously shapes our view of the government. All three of these agents, are crucial in allowing us to understand ourselves and our beliefs today. Many intellects will argue that family is one of the most important agents in regards to political socialization (cite). This comes as no surprise, as children we are incapable of making rational decisions for ourselves. Thus, our parents and family members are tasked with making the best possible choices for us instead. In fact, as children we want to please our parents so we are receptive to their views, this includes political beliefs. (Stockwell, Chapter 6: Public Opinion, Political Socialization, and the Media.) Furthermore, our family can also have an effect on how we view politics in our future. Studies show Children whose parents

Before one uses a fallacy, it s important to have full understanding or else you risk losing your whole ethos aspect of your argument. Heinrichs gives three important parts to detecting fallacies. All you have to do is look for a bad proof, the wrong number of choices, or a disconnect between the proof and the conclusion. (Heinrichs 146) The following two sins are Tautology and False Choice. Tautology just repeats the premise, or principle of the argument. The example given was Fan: The Cowboys are favored to win since they are the better team. Early Amsterdammers were at war with water because the settlers needed to drain the marshy terrain to obtain land suitable for building and farming. The owner of any given parcel of land was responsible for seeing that the dykes that held back the water were maintained and keeping their land dry. If one neglected their duties, water would sweep in and cause destruction to not only the negligent party s land, but everyone s (Mak 11). Flooding caused destruction of property and crops and essentially lowered chances of survival. Because it was vital to cooperate with others, despite potential differences and disagreements, the Dutch developed a pragmatic and collaborative outlook. Draining water to create land also affected the area s geography. To remove the water, it had to be directed into canals that ran directly into the ocean or natural rivers (Mak 11). These canals proved to be an advantage, as traders could easily anchor and load boats directly where their homes or stores were. Although this made loading goods easier, traders first had to take convoluted routes through twisting rivers to sell their wares because their boats were unfit for the open sea. Then, with the invention of a ship called a cog, trading routes could now stretch across seas. The cogs themselves could also carry five to ten times more cargo than earlier boats. Because Dutch traders could go to farther ports to trade, their cities, namely Amsterdam, became

Studies have shown that the cost can range from 161 million to over 2 billion dollars. The Tufts center for drug development found that getting a drug from its initial state to pharmacy shelves cost an astounding 2.5 billion dollars in 2014. This is significantly higher than the 800 million cost associated with bringing new drugs to the market in 2003. These figures are so high in part because they take into account the opportunity cost of investing money in drugs while it could have been invested elsewhere. Another portion of the cost is also due to the failure of drugs. The probability of a pioneer drug advancing past the clinical studies is around 8%. So in order to be profitable, large companies have to invest their time and resources in more than one drug at a time. For every drug they put on the market there are several that took up resources but ultimately did not make it. In addition to the cost, the whole process can take from 10 to 15 years. In order to get a drug approved the manufacturers have to demonstrate that it is safe and effective. First, a manufacturer must submit an Investigational New Drug Application (IND). This shows the results of tests done on animals, which are known as preclinical trials. It also explains how they would conduct the trials on humans. If the FDA decides that it is reasonably safe to proceed, then the manufacturer can move to the next, a

In this lab, we used our newly found knowledge of characteristic properties to fulfill the given purpose. In a nutshell, characteristic properties are properties that will remain the same, no matter the volume of a given substance. To determine the identity of the black ink, we tested the density, freezing point, paper chromatography, color, and odor. We then did the same thing to the black ink that we found in the lab, we found that both substances had a density of 0.98 g/ml. Next, we found the freezing point by putting a sample of the black ink from the lab and the black ink from the sludge in different test tube. We put these test tubes in an ice bath with salt and measured the temperature with thermometers. Unfortunately we ran out of time, and inferred that we had chilled the ink to the coldest temperature we could create. We found that both of the inks had a freezing point of less than 7 degrees fahrenheit. In addition, we used paper chromatography to determine the identity of the substance. The results were that both strips of paper had the same colors on it, but our ink appeared more linear and the ink from the lab appeared more mixed or tie dyed. I believe that this is a result of our ink coming in contact with other substances, and the inks are still the same because the colors were the same. Lastly, we made observations about both inks, such as color and odor. Both has a dark purple color and did not have a particular odor. The next substance we tested were the boiling chips. One of the most common symptoms associated with schizophrenia is delusions, or false beliefs bases on incorrect inferences about reality. For example, Nina believes that Lily, a ballerina who is new to the company, is trying to replace her and steal her role. This is an inaccurate belief because Lily never displayed any motivation to steal the role and was also nothing but kind and friendly to Nina. Nina also experiences hallucinations, which are another symptom commonly associated with this disorder. Hallucinations are false sensory perceptions that are experienced without an external source. They can be auditory, visual, olfactory, or somatosensory. In Nina s case, she experiences mostly visual and somatosensory hallucinations such as seeing herself pull a feather out of her skin or her physical transformation into the Black Swan when she perceives herself growing feathers and wings. While genetics plays a role in the development of schizophrenia, we cannot come to the conclusion that anyone in Nina s family was a schizophrenic or that it would be the sole cause of her developing the disorder. Environmental stress is shown to also contribute to the development and Nina is overcome with the pressure to achieve perfection and to uphold her company s reputation which creates an atmosphere of extreme stress that she must cope with. • 26. Grand Canyon Essay Outline Grand Canyon The Grand Canyon is one of the greatest natural creations our planet has to offer. Have you ever been mesmerized by the giant cliffs, massive ridges, or the wide array of beautiful colors? If you answered yes, this paper is just for you! After reading this, you will be well educated about the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is in the northwest corner of Arizona, bordering Utah and Nevada. Did you know that more than five million people visit Grand Canyon National Park per year? The Grand Canyon is roughly 280 miles long, 18 miles wide, and in some places more than 1 mile deep! The volume of this enormous park is estimated to be over 5.5 trillion cubic yards, now that is impressive! While the Colorado River carved this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, these rocks undergo erosion, which is the process of moving sediments from one place to another. Then, these sediments are deposited all at one place and over time they start to converge and cement as layers which are also known as strata. As time keeps going, new sediments deposit and cement together over old ones forming new layers. This is a repetitive process that eventually build up layers to make up a Sedimentary rock. Approximately 40 major sedimentary rock layers exposed in the Grand Canyon National Park area range in age from about 200 million to nearly 2 billion years old. As you can see, sedimentary rock formation takes an excessive amount of time. So you now know how sedimentary rocks are formed and how the Colorado River majorly eroded all the rock creating canyons. But here comes the million dollar question: where did all the rocks come from? The answer to that question is The Continental Drift. The Earth s continents are not fixed in place, but rather float on a sea of molten rock, meaning that they move around quite a bit. Over 250 million years, that quite a bit can turn into land masses moving thousands of miles. Moreover, the Earth is made up of 20 Tectonic plates. Seven of these plates are very large and consist of entire continents or sea floors. The plate that the Grand Canyon is located on is called The North American Plate . At one time, this plate was considerably further south and consequently had a very different climate than

Most hurricanes that hit the United States begin either in the Caribbean or the Atlantic. Many of the worst start as seedlings coming off the coast of Africa. Like all tropical cyclones, a hurricane needs the warm water of the tropics, which feeds a stormwith energy, in order to form. Tropical cyclones are like giant engines that use warm, moist air as fuel. That is why they form only over warm ocean waters near the equator. Discipline In Home Life In Ian, Trina, And Juvenile Crimes Discipline is defined as, the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience. Children s actions and behavior are all based on how disciplined they are in their home life. Without discipline, I think maturity is expected to not come as early in age as it would for someone who is taught the differences between right and wrong during their childhood years. When children are maturing, they need to have support and discipline from their guardians to succeed and become good independent adults without getting into trouble with the law. In chapter 8, Stevenson introduces us to Ian, Trina, and Antonio. All three of these characters were sent to juvenile prisonfor various crimes they had committed. Each of their stories had one thing in common, neglect. Parents are primarily responsible for meeting their children s needs. However, there are usually multiple and interacting contributors to parenting and to neglect (Howard Dubowitz). In chapter 8, all of the characters faced traumatic home life circumstances. They each faced abandonment at such a young age. They were abused and neglected by their own parents. This set bad examples for each of these kids at such a young age. This made all three of them run into problems with the American Justice System because of individual juvenile crimes they each had made. Ian, Trina, and Antonio were all three convicted of different crimes but in my opinion, they all link back to one

  • 32. Argumentative Essay About Gay Adoption Corri Fairfull Discursive Essay Gay Adoption Gay adoption is a subject which is widely debated. However over recent years gay adoption has allowed for most gay couples who want to adopt young children and give them a good quality of life, which they would have if they lived with their biological parents or a heterosexual couple, to do so. One positive view of gay adoption is that it gives the gay couple the chance to start their own family and give a child in care a new start to life in a loving home. This will allow the couple to love and care for the child just as much as they would if the child was living with their own biological parents. Gay couples who want to adopt a child will give the same loving family home just like a heterosexual couple or single parent would. For some children, living with a gay couple may be something they haven t experienced before. However finding a family who love the child and appreciate them for who they are, also encouraging them with all aspects of their life and supporting them all the way through their life is what matters most to children. Another positive view about gay adoption is that it means a child in care will receive the opportunity to get the benefit of new parents who are going to give them the best possible life with parents who are healthy, in a stable relationship and have a good financial support system in place. Since there are many children up for adoption, gay couples often adopt children who are older as babies

In addition to the many task these women provide such as their contribution to their household chores, managing the household income, childbearing; and caring for the elderly; these jobs are all considered unpaid work to which these women will never receive any form of income for the work they provided. In the United States alone more than 40, 000 dollars annually would be paid out yearly, if these women were being paid for services rendered in those areas; such as cooking, cleaning, ironing, care givers; and financial advisor. He speaks of himself as being a nerdy Spanish boy who wants attention. He screams out for attention by acting out in negative ways. Most know, to bring attention to one s self, one can acquire it by acting negatively or positively, but negative attention brings punishment. Soto obtains his grandmothers attention at the end of the poem, but he may have regretted it. Gary Soto s Behind Grandma s House is a 1952 free verse poem that uses imagery to suggest the speaker s perspective of the story. From the beginning of the poem, Soto depicts himself as a ten year old who wanted attention. He also depicts the era by which the setting of the poem is written. He states, At ten I wanted fame , the wordfame standing for his intense need for attention (1). In the next line he said, I had a comb / And two Coke bottles, a tube of Bryl cream (1 2). By this he meant, he had thick glasses and slicked back hair, and for that era, thick glasses were for nerds, and the slicked back hair was the fashion in the 1950 s. In addition, a slang word in the 1950 s was Daddy O , who by which Soto refers to a priest(17). He states, No way / Daddy O to an imaginary priest (16 17). Since Soto uses the word priest, and not pastor or reverend, this indicates the person for whom he imagined calling Daddy O was a Catholic male (17). Whether it is a student obeying the teacher, citizens following the laws or a child obeying his or her parents, there will always be a scenario of obedience to authority. There are different levels of obedience ranging from a group of people following their leader, such as on a sports team, to extreme religious cults. The word obedience come from the Latin word Obaudrie, which means to listen well. Obedience is defined as compliance to the plan; conformity to the pattern; observance of the rules; loyalty to the standards and submission to another s will. Obedience is carrying out the given direction cheerfully and quickly. Obedience is the bottom line of the Christian life yet it plays a vital role in the formation of character of a person. Obedience is part of the foundation of society. Without obedience, nothing would exist but chaos and confusion. Human individuality is often undermined by the blind obedience humans feel towards those in position of power. In order for humans to maintain their individuality and a stable society, a balance between obedience and independence must be found. To obey means doing what God says in the timing and manner that He says to do it. We must then know what His instructions are. We cannot comply with something we do not understand. The Holy Spirit assists us in relating God s commands to our situation and helps us determine the wise choice. The true meaning of obedience has changed over the course of

Home loans are often packaged together, and converted into financial products called mortgage backed securities . These securities were sold to investors around the world. Many investors assumed these securities were trustworthy, and asked few questions about their actual value. Credit rating agencies gave them high grade, safe ratings. Two of the leading sellers of mortgage backed securities were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Because these companies were chartered by Congress, many believed they were guaranteed by the federal government. This allowed them to borrow enormous sums of money, fuel the market for questionable investments, and put the financial system at risk. The decline in the housing market set off a domino effect across the U.S. economy. When home values declined and adjustable rate mortgage payment amounts increased, borrowers defaulted on their mortgages. Investors globally holding mortgage backed securities (including many of the banks that originated them and traded them among themselves) began to incur serious losses. Before long, these securities became so unreliable that they were not being bought or sold. Investment banks such as Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers found themselves saddled with large amounts of assets they could not sell. They ran out of the money needed to meet their immediate obligations and faced imminent collapse. Other banks

Many people think that Hindus believe in many deities, but the Hindu concept of Godis much broader than that. In fact, Hinduismitself encompasses much more than just one specific set of religious beliefs. While some Hindus believe that God is a divine being with certain identifiable attributes, others believe that God cannot be defined and is an all pervading being that extends beyond everything. Although some beliefs differ, the majority of Hindus see the concept of God in multiple ways. Among these are the concepts of God as one and many, God and the soul, God as sound, God as image, God in nature, cows, and avatara. One of Hinduism s most distinguishing features is the concept of multiple gods. These multiple gods are manifestations of the various powers of the divine. After a while these images begin to shape what young boys know and what they understand about the world around them. This is not an immediate effect, but instead a slow accumulative effect that is much more subtle than we are aware of. One of the biggest problems with this process is that the Disney conglomerate has spanned over nearly five generations, so no one thinks to challenge the idea that an animated Disney movie is a great way to entertain children while simultaneously sharing with them a piece of traditional culture. One of the most destructive ways in which classic animated Disney movies are providing young boys with false and distorted images of masculinity, are the ways in which men are shown in relationship to women. Most Disney movies revolve around a heterosexual relationship containing a hero and heroine. Feminists have studied what these characters tell girls about themselves, but it is just as important if not more important to understand what these movies are telling boys about how real men interact with and treat women. Often the message to boys both explicitly and implicitly is that men should view women as objects of pleasure or as servants to please them. A perfect example of this misrepresentation is in the movie Mulan. In Mulan, and entire song called A Girl Worth Fighting For , explains what a man is looking for in a woman.
