Time Management Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of time management poses a multifaceted challenge. At its core,
this task demands not just an understanding of the concept but an ability to delve into its
nuances, exploring the intricacies of balancing competing priorities and optimizing one's use of
time. The challenge intensifies as the writer needs to strike a delicate balance between theory and
practical application, blending research findings with personal insights.
The complexity of the subject requires the writer to grapple with various aspects, such as the
psychological dimensions of time perception, the impact of technology on our time, and the
cultural variations in approaches to time management. It's not merely about regurgitating
information but about presenting a cohesive narrative that captures the essence of effective time
management while addressing potential pitfalls and challenges.
Furthermore, the challenge lies in making the essay relatable to a diverse audience. Time
management is a universal concept, yet its application can differ significantly based on individual
circumstances, professions, and personal goals. Achieving a balance that resonates with readers
from various walks of life adds an additional layer of difficulty.
In the process of creating this essay, one must grapple with the irony of time constraints. The
demand for effective time management in writing about time management is a paradox that
cannot be ignored. Balancing research, planning, writing, and revising within the limited hours
of a day underscores the real-world application of the very topic being explored.
In conclusion, writing an essay on time management is akin to a juggling act where the writer
must skillfully manage their own time while delving into the complexities of the subject. It's an
intricate dance between theory and practice, universality and individuality. Yet, as challenging as
it may be, successfully navigating this task can provide valuable insights that extend beyond the
written words.

Drug Law Violations And Its Effects On The Lives Of...
Millions of people are arrested every year because of drug law violation. For the
longest time in our history the practice of drug wars have led to exceptional rates of
incarceration and marginalization of many Americans, targeting poor people and
people of color while failing to lower the actually issue at hand of drug use and other
drug related harms. In this paper, I will address and define the terms decriminalization
and harm reduction. Also will reflect on the sale/use of prescription opiates, in
parallel to the use I will identify how it effects society as a whole, by analyzing one
cost and one benefit from the use/sale of prescription drugs. Lastly, I will apply a
harm reduction strategy to the negative consequences that are... Show more content

Strategies such as safer use, managed abstinence, and addressing conditions of drug
usage. These strategies aim to protect the health, respect, and rights of the individuals
touched by drug use. In essence, harm reduction is a social movement, built on justice
for the individuals, communities, cities, and countries. (Dingel, 2015)
Prescription opiates are several drugs that originate from white juice of certain
species of poppy. Some commonly used opiates are: Oxycodone, Hydrocodone,
Codeine, Heroin, Morphine, and many more. They act as a depressant on the human
body that include and are not limited too; pain relief, sedation, muscular relaxation,
and euphoria(Conrard,1992). Opiates fundamentally are depressants of the nervous
system. Continued use of opiates leads to a physical tolerance, where dosages must
be increased to maintain the physical effect. A benefit that presents from the use of
opiates is in medical practice, A standard British medical text, used widely in
America, recommended opium for a variety of common medical problems: to
mitigate pain, to allay spasm, to promote sleep, to relieve nervous restlessness...But
experience has proved its value in relieving some diseases in which not one of these
indications can be at all time distinctly traced. (Conrard,1992) If used properly and
correctly, prescribed opiates were success in relieving moderate
British Culture And Differences Between British And...
While I have been living in the UK for two months, I have noticed many differences
between British culture and Chinese culture, especially in an aspect of social etiquette.
Britain and China are both countries that have the long history and splendid
civilisations, have been known for their ceremonies and etiquette through the ages.
However, as the typical representative of the Western cultureand the Eastern culture,
it can be something unique and distinct of social etiquette between this two countries,
in the aspects of meeting and greeting, visiting a home, gift giving, table manners,
compliment and gratitude.
The British seem to be reserved when they first meet someone. The handshake is a
standard way of greeting in Britain, even for children, and there are no issues over
gender. (10 British Etiquette and Customs you should learn, 2017) Chinese people
also shake hands upon meeting, merely, in the formal or official occasion, and
simultaneously lower their eyes slightly as a sign of respect. People only nod or
salute instead of shaking hands as a greeting to friends and family. In Britain,
sometimes people will embrace or kiss the other person if they are family or a very
close friend. (10 British Etiquette and Customs you should learn, 2017) In China,
people seem to be more conservative because they rarely treat others with hug or
kiss unless they are the lovers. Both in Britain and China, use people s family names
is appropriate when you address an unfamiliar person.

Research methods and outcomes for Australian Indigenous preterm births
Introduction:
It is the responsibility of Health Care Practitioners to stay abreast of the latest
research, while enhancing research skills, ensuring the most current evidence based
information guaranteeing the highest level of care.
This paper will explore the development of research techniques and the tools
available to establish the factors that increase the risk of preterm birth amongst the
Indigenous women of Australia, with a particular focus in rural areas.
1. Throughout the Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Queensland, several
databases provide the most current research in clinical practice; these include
CINAHL and Medline. These databases contain specifically chosen research to
ensure the more relevant studies are more accessible, rather than the random selection
by robots through Google and/or Google Scholar.
To address the topic of this assessment, I began my search for two peer reviewed
journal articles using CINAHL, including limiting the dates to 2011 2016, peer
reviewed and key words such as;
risk factors or causes and preterm birth or premature birth or premature infant and
Australian Aboriginal* or Australian Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander*
Unfortunately, this search did not produce any results, I then extended my search to
include the Medline database which produced three articles, one of which did not
appear to address the issues of preterm birth in
Pros And Cons Of Computed Tomography
Computed Tomography (CT) is an excellent tool in the medical field for the
detection of diseases and injuries. Since its initial introduction in the 1970s, it has
revolutionized imaging techniques which were limited, and over time it has
grown more powerful with advances in technology. These improvements have led
to more detailed images, and faster imaging speeds, but it also led to a huge
popularity among the technology. This popularity has spiked its usage over the
last quarter of contrary, leading to better diagnosis s and also exposing more
patients and to multiple scan, with compounding radiation. The radiation in CT
scans is much higher than natural exposure and even X rays, which has led many
scholar to view the technology as a possible concern over how much radiation it is
exposing the public too. The review mentions a 2005 report, CT scans only
consisted of 11% of all medical x ray exposures, but contributed to 67% of the
general populations total radiation dose. Those are staggering and worrisome figures
especially when this radiation is compounded during other scans and... Show more

For sure, application of the shield reduces the radiation dose but also involves a
corresponding increase in image noise. Because radiation dose and image noise
are generally inversely related to each other. (Samei, E. (2014).) Said so, If the
shield is used patient dose decreases but the noise on the image increases what leads
to decrease in quality. The benefit of bismuth shields beside the dose decrease is in
the easiness of the application. In the very heterogeneous and complicated clinical
environments of today, it is always preferable to use optimization strategies that are
simple and easy to implement. (Samei, E. (2014).) The fact of simplicity of use will
convince many technologists to include bismuth shields into their
Attraction and Contradictions of Life Essay
William Shakespeare in his play of Antony and Cleopatra has many suggestions on
the topic of the attractions and contradictions of the political and erotic life, but also
of the suggesting of a third kind of way of life that transcends the political and the
erotic ones. Throughout the play Shakespeare presents the emotions between Antony
and Cleopatrain many different ways that could be interpreted as loveor even perhaps
lust at times. Cleopatra was a woman of high maintenance, but yet she did seem to
love Antony a lot as she tried everything to keep him with her. At the beginning of
this play we see Cleopatra testing Antony s love for her by saying If it be love
indeed, tell me how much. This gives the impression of Cleopatra s... Show more

O er my spirit thy full supremacy thou knew st, and that thy beck might from the
bidding of the gods, command me. This quote shows that love and power are
attractions of each other as Antony s love for Cleopatra forces him to follow her.
She is the commander of his actions, even in the political and military areas of his
life, because of his overpowering love for her. Power in the play is apparently a
political force, as the play turns around the competition between Antony and
Caesar for dominance in Rome. But it has other faces too, most notably the effect
of love. Antony refuses to be dominated by Caesar, but he willingly submits to
Cleopatra. Power is thus a political and a personal force, one that impacts the
desires of both individuals. Caesar states that between love and political power,
there is a certain degree of interaction between both of the entities in life which I
thus is a direct correlation. I should have known no less. It hath been taught us
from the primal state that he which is wish d until he were; and the ebb d man, ne

that people in power are never missed or appreciated until they are gone. People are
ungrateful, or unable to see the good in front of them, especially when it comes to
those who rule them. It s easier to complain against those in power than to praise
their good. Same applies to love, that at times we do not
Rheumatoid Arthritis And Osteoarthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are both types of arthritis. Both require
medication that can help the disease, but the medication have side effects such as
affecting the heart, kidney, lungs, and the skin. Neither rheumatoid arthritis and
osteoarthritis have any known cures. According to the website healthline.com, Both
types of arthritis are more common in women than men. Osteoarthritis and
Rheumatoid arthritisare more prevalent in older adults, but RA can develop at any
age. Rheumatoid arthritis is worse than osteoarthritis and yet unpredictable. Patients
that have Rheumatoid arthritis have a higher chance to develop lymphoma and

In my experience I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of

Problems Of The Circus Essay
Problems of the Circus
When I look at animals held captive I think of slavery. Animals in circuses represent
the domination and oppression we have fought against for so long. They wear the
same chains and shackles. The United States Animal Welfare has standards of care.
When looking at the major circuses, they have all been cited for violating the
standards. Animals feel just as much, if not more emotions and humans. Circuses
should be eliminated completely because of the animals dangerous living conditions,
the long term damage it does to the animals, and the mammals could pose a potential
threat to the spectators.
Their living and traveling conditions are not ideal; they should be living in the wild.
The animals spend most of their time locked up in chains and separated from their
families with no choice. Kenny, a three year old Asian Elephantdied one night after
the circus made him perform while sick. As a three year old, in the wild, he would
just now be beginning to wean, which means to start eating other foods rather than
the mother s milk, not spending countless hours mastering tricks. Deborah Nelson
quotes federal regulations, saying sick elephants must get prompt medical care and
veterinarian s okay before performing, (p48 57) but he did not get get either of
those. Kenny got sick all three times he went out to perform, and it did not get any
better. A couple hours later, the officials found the helpless three year old elephant
dead on the hard concrete floor.
Coir Industry Essay
CHAPTER I
1.1Introduction To Coir Industry
The Coir Industry has been significantly Export Oriented and a valuable foreign
exchange earner. On an average about 20 per cent of the total Coir products
manufactured are exported from the country, mainly to West European countries,
United States of America (USA) and Canada. The products include fiber, yarn, mats,
matting, rugs and carpets, rope and rubberized coir. Unfortunately, the exports in the
recent past show a declining trend. Increased competition from other countries use of
substitutes traditional methods of production delay in executing orders are some of
the major reasons mentioned for reduced exports. Because of this, the manufacturers

Structure Of Coir Fibre The individual fibre cells are narrow and hollow, with thick
walls made of cellulose. They are pale when immature but later become hardened
and yellowed as a layer of lignin, is deposited on their walls. Mature brown coir
fibres contain more lignin and less cellulose than fibres such as flax and cotton
and so are stronger but less flexible. They are made up of small threads, each less
than 0.05 inch (1.3 mm) long and 10 to 20 micrometers in diameter. White fibre is
smoother and finer, but also weaker. The coir fibre is relatively waterproof and is
the only natural fibre resistant to damage by salt water. Green coconuts, harvested
after about six to twelve months on the plant, contain pliable white fibres. Brown
fibre is obtained by harvesting fully mature coconuts when the nutritious layer
surrounding the seed is ready to be processed into copra and desiccated coconut. The
fibrous layer of the fruit is then separated from the hard shell (manually) by driving
the fruit down onto a spike to split it (De husking). Machines are now available
which crush the whole fruit to give the loose fibres.
Types Of Coir Fibre
Brown Fibre The Fibrous husks are soaked in pits or in nets in a slow moving body
of water to swell and soften the fibres. The long bristle fibres are separated from the
shorter mattress fibres underneath the skin of the nut, a process known as

Processes are steps that a business takes every day to reach its goals. Thus, the more
efficient the processes are, the more efficient the business will be. Efficient processes
can help a business maintain a competitive advantage, and can assist with lowering
operations costs. Global acceptance of the internet has provided technological
advancements in how software, hardware, data, and networks are implemented in
businesses. For example, there are Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems,
Business Process Management(BPM), Document Management Systems (DMS) and
advances in network management. In addition, these advances allow businesses to

Ambition In Frankenstein
Prudence; the ability to govern judgement and exercise wisdom to remain cautious of
a situation or feeling. It can be the factor through which a desire may become an
prosperous aspiration or a destructive lust. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein follows the
life of Victor Frankenstein, an imprudent man who is consumed by his ambition to
reanimate a dead body. Correspondingly, in Robert Louis Stevensons The Strange
Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, a meritorious doctor, Henry Jekyll, is blinded by his
iniquitous ambition and creates a potion that physically and mentally dichotomizes
the two sides of his personality. In both texts, the use of conflict, setting and theme
suggests that the pursuit of excessive ambition blindly leads to the neglection of...

Following months of work, Victor completes his nefarious creation with intent on
providing life to a beautiful new species. However, when faces its grotesque
appearance the beauty of [his] dream [vanishes], and breathless horror and disgust
[fills his heart]. Unable to endure the aspect of the being [he] had created, [he
rushes] out of the room (58 Shelley). Victor s unrestricted pursuit of ambition
consumes his logic, blurring him from the reality of his creature s appearance.
Victor s initial reaction to the physical deformity of his creation stands as a
manifestation of society s unjust correlation between external disfigurement and
an inner monstrosity. He demonstrates usual social behavior, for within the time
period he resides acceptance was heavily based on a form of appearance. This
social setting influences Victor to abandon any morals or self conscience,
idiosyncrasies he once possessed, and forsake his creature solely based on its
displeasing corporeal figure. Similarly, Dr. Henry Jekyll is influenced by the
social setting into neglecting his conscience. In his complete statement of the
case, Jekyll confesses the truth behind his scientific experiments and how Mr.
Hyde came to be. He elucidates that there are men in the world who hire others to
commit their sins to remain revered. However, Jekyll views himself as the first that
ever did so for his pleasures and out of pure repression, presents the public eye with
a load of genial respectability (Stevenson 60). Stevenson s novel is set during the
Victorian Era, a time in history where people of high class were to act with a high
value of moral conduct. When viewed realistically, it was difficult to meet these
pragmatically conflicting social standards, therefore undesirable aspects of people s
lives became repressed to ensure
Theoretical Perspective Analysis
Theoretical perspectives are important to understand in order to understand different
people s beliefs regarding how they perceive the world. The Functionalist perspective
speaks about how society maintains stability through interconnected parts. The
Conflict perspective looks at the current way the world looks, and looks to see if
power and resources are distributed properly. On the other hand, the Feminist
perspective looks at the role that genderplays in our society, and fights for equality
between men and women. Lastly, the Internationalist perspective works to understand
society as one unit. Personally, the theoretical perspective that I support of these four
would be the Feminist perspective. I favour this perspective because it

Archduke Franz Ferdinand Research Paper
I believe that June 28th, 1914, was perhaps the one of the single most defining
moments of the 20th century. Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Princess
Sophie of Hohenberg, assassinations shook a fragile European peace down to its
roots. While Franz Ferdinand was not the emperor of the Habsburg Empire at the
time of his death, Serbian nationalist extremist group, the Black Hand, planned, and
executed, their assassination in hopes that his death would start a war that would free
what was then Bosnia from Austrian rule. While the decision to target Franz
Ferdinand was relatively arbitrary, the Black Hand wanted to target some member of
the Habsburg Dynasty that would trigger their Bosnian revolution. Ultimately with
some planning, and a lot of luck, the Serbian members of the Black Hand were

Analysis Of Grendel And The Epic Of Beowulf
Merriam Webster defines a hero as a person who is admired for great or brave acts
and defines a villain as a character who does bad things. These definitions may not
be so indubitable as John Gardner takes a hero and villain to a whole new level in
his novel, Grendel. Throughout the years of novels and short stories, heroes and
villains have been constructed as strictly good versus evil, but what if there is good
in evil and evil in good? Grendel and the epic, Beowulf, revolve around this idea of
heroes and villains and good versus evil. Gardner s twist on the stereotypical hero
leads to the true definition of a hero being changed as he creates one who has a
nihilistic view on his atypical life. A hero in the eyes of the Anglo Saxonshas
superman strength, undertakes a great quest which relates to society s values,
battles a great monster, and is required to pay homage to a god. Beowulf makes it
black and white on whom the hero and villain are; Beowulf being the wonderful
hero who kills the inimical villain, Grendel. Gardner s novel, Grendel, has a
skewed view on who the hero and villain Gardner uses the villain from Beowulf and
creates a novel around him and his viewpoints on his world. However Grendel fits
almost perfectly into the characteristics of a hero, according to the Anglo Saxons. He
posses super strength which is demonstrated through the altercations he has with
man. In fact, man is Grendel s evil or villain. Chapter one includes examples to
prove Grendel s

Nathan Hale Teacher, military leader, spy: Nathan Hale is an American hero

(Benet 419). Hale is probably the most famous spy of the American Revolution.
Although he wasn t a very successful spy, he receives much attention because of his
famous last words. Nathan Hale s early life, his adult life, and his death are all
important to capture his distinctive importance in early American history. Nathan
Hale was born on June 6, 1775, in a city named Coventry in Connecticut

Gilded Age Robber Barons Analysis
Robber Barons of The Gilded Age The Gilded Age was the period of
transformation in the economy, technology, government, and social customs of
America. Robber Barons were businessmen who used unfair tactics to help the
union. The people who had jobs were struggling to the fact that they have low pay
and working condition is bad. So many people were struggling because of these
low cut pays. Also, little kids had to work but did not get paid, these kids should
not have been working since they let them work they at least should have paid them
for their hard work and dedication. Robber Barons used unfair tactics by giving poor
working condition, low paychecks, and child labor. According to a U.S. History.org
article, the author reveals that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that kids were forced to work and had no education. Some kids may
have faced working problems as much as adults do. If the kids do not have an
education they would have to face working at a place for their lifetime. As a result,
this shows one of the robber baron problems that people faced back then and kids
should not be working because they should be able to have an education. During the
Gilded Age, wages were very low even though people were getting injured or sick
from their job. According to the American History textbook, Lapsansky Werner
discusses, When Carnegie amasses a fortune, steelworkers in his plant labored to
10 12 hours a day, six days a week, for about 15 cents an hour. (P.69) This shows
how low these workers get paid they are being overworked by these businessmen,
people should not be working for half the day and be off one day. Also, kids were
not getting money for working. The kids were working for about half the day
instead of getting an education since they are not getting paid, they are out there in
the real world working their butts off. This shows robber baron problems, these
people are working so hard and they are either getting paid low or no not at all. As
a result, since people are working so hard people should be getting paid the right
amount or more depending on their jobs and if the kids don t get money they should
just let them get an education instead of being in a factory for half the day, these kids
Film Analysis Of Elia Kazan s On The Waterfront
Elia Kazan s On the Waterfront is a film that tries to show the reasoning for someone
in a difficult situation. For example, the struggle someone goes through when trying
to figure out what the right thing to do for them morally. The film follows Terry, a
brutish type character yet very empathetic of a man. This type of character makes the
audience feel for someone going through this kind of turmoil as they feel for him in a
way as though it were themselves having this dilemma. On the Waterfrontplays with
the gray area in life, and frustration of it there never being a black and white answer.
For Terry, the symbol for the black or bad guys are the people who are his only
family and were there for him his whole life. The white or good guys being love
and moral duty that are portrayed by Edie Doyle and Father Barry. The good show
him a world out there that he doesn t have to betray himself on what he feels is
wrong. Though how can he go against all those that have stood for him and raised
him up when he had nothing?
It is only when the decision is almost made for him, when the bad guys kill Terry s
brother, that he is able to rise to what is right to him and speak to the law.
Terry is almost a symbol for Kazan in this time period, after and during the HUAC
trials period. Kazan seemed to a struggle with what the right thing to do was, as
many of his fiends could be identified with the communist party. Kazan felt as
though the only moral thing to do was to name names. He looked at the
Communist Party as one with current day Russia at the time and the horrible things
it is performing, including its persecution against Poland and Czechoslovakia.
Though if Kazan were to talk and name names he would be going against his
friends. This is like Terry, where talking is going against his family or the mob but
staying silent would mean there would be more people like Joey Doyle getting
knocked off. Terry fills as though this would be at his dispense, just as Kazan seemed
to feel the same about the Communist Party.
Him talking to the HUAC was incredibly interesting, as Kazan previous works and
by the friends he surrounded himself with. One of his more prominent friendships
was with Arthur Miller. The two were very
The Argument Against The Naturalism s View Of God
The Holy Bible revealed to us that God is a symbol of goodness. He likes creating
good things. He declared each day work as good in His own sight. He finally
pronounced all His creation as being good and complimenting each other. Almighty
God forever, remains the highest good any human could seek and a standard to
measure goodness.
Against the naturalism s view of man is that Human beings are complex machines;
personality is an interrelation of chemical and physical properties we do not yet fully
understand (Colorado Christian University, 2014). In the Bible, God revealed himself
as the creator of earth and created He man in His own image. God is the creator of
heaven and earth and all that dwells in it, including human, animals, nonliving

The writer uses a lot of humor is this essay by cmparing things of nature to things
outside of nature. For example, when talking about bats she says there is a black
thing hanging from the kitchen ceiling. It is the exact same size and shape of a

when talking about ants gathering up on peoples food she stated, It s like a scene

The Population Of Urban Areas
CHAPTER 1:INTRODUCTION According to census defined homeless as
houseless households. Households which do not live in buildings or census house
but live in the open or roadside, pavement, in Hume pipes, under fly over and
staircase, or in the open in places of worship, man daps, railway platform etc. Are
treated as homeless households. Households living in dilapidated homes or
households without access to basic amenities, infrastructure or services apart from
households with too many members living under a single roof (congestion factor)
should also be termed as homeless. The census has found that between 2001 and
2011 homeless population in urban areas grew by 20.5% but in rural areas it
declined by 28.4%. Census 2011 has presented data on homeless household s size.
Most number of homeless households at the national level comprises single
member households to be followed by 7+ members households. The population of
homeless in urban areas (9.4 lakhs) is more than that in rural areas (8.3 lakhs). In
India Uttar Pradesh (3.3 lakhs), Maharashtra (2.1 lakhs), Rajasthan (1.8 lakhs),
Madhya Pradesh (1.46 lakhs), Andhra Pradesh (1.45 lakhs), Gujarat (1.4 Lakhs) are
highest state for homeless people.(Decline in homeless population: Census data

Iodine Clock Lab Report
Iodine Clock refers to a group of reactions which involve the mixing of two colorless
solutions to produce a solution which gives rise to an initial induction period, before
a sudden change creates a deep purple blue color (http://web.mst.edu/~gbert/IClock
/discussion.htm)
For the reaction to occur, certain conditions must be met.
When starch is mixed with iodine in water, an intensely colored starch/iodine complex
is formed (http://antoine.frostburg.edu/chem/senese/101/redox/faq/starch as redox
indicator.shtml).
This is because an iodine molecule slips into an amylose coil, part of starch, to create
the blue black color.
The time delay until the appearance of the blue color is inversely related to the rate
of the reaction(http://web.mst.edu/~gbert/IClock/discussion.htm).
This means that a faster reaction gives a shorter delay and a slower reaction
lengthens the delay. This is why the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mass Media And Social Media
The Evolution of Media in Presidential Campaigns
The effects of mass media and social media have changed the way people have
experienced presidential campaigns in many ways. With the development of new
technologies through the last hundred years many different ways of experiencing the
campaigns have taken place. Newspapers, radio, television, internet and social media
websites have changed the ways we all have experienced elections. Between 1960
and today, there have been many milestones in mass media and the way it has been
presented to us. In the 1960 s television sets were becoming very popular in many
households across America. The first televised presidential debate took place on
September 26, 1960. 1963: Polls show more Americans report that they rely on
television rather than newspapers as their primary source for news. ( 1963: Polls
show... PBS, n.d.) With the television becoming the new medium for people to gain
information, this was a major milestone in how information was gathered and
perceived. Also in the 1960 s the first stages of development of the internet began.
Early computers were also being produced. This had set the stage for upcoming
years in technology that would affect the experience of presidential elections by all.
In the 1970 s many more transformations were happening in media. The development
of the internet was still underway and won t become readily available until the 90 s
to the general public. Public access television was created. The
Liberty Leading The People And The Oath Of The Horatii
There were several strong influences on painters after the French Revolution,
especially in the Neoclassical and Romantic periods. The bloody events of the
revolution inspired painters to write about similarly important and momentous
events, and it was not just French painters who took steps to show these emotions
through their work. From the Neoclassical period, Jacques Louis David s The Oath
of the Horatii conveys these ideas, and from the Romantic period, Eugene Delacroix
s Liberty Leading the People show similar ideas. In both paintings, the use of red is
striking. Both painters use red, white, and blue in these large works of art, which
represent different colors on the French flag. This independence and clear artistic

Analysis Of Hillary Chute s The Shadow Of A Past Time
Hillary Chute s essay The Shadow of a Past Time : History and Graphic
Representation in Maus addresses the praise and criticisms of Spiegelman s choice to
represent his father s experiences in the Holocaust as a graphic novel. The author
contrasts other critic s views of the novel with her own, stating that ... Maus, far from
betraying the past, engages this ethical dilemma through its form. (Chute, 201) The
ethical dilemma in this case, being the potential trivialization of Vladek s Auschwitz
experience by showing it in pictures. I agree with the author, but since she details
many other writer s criticisms of the use of a graphic novelto portray the Holocaust,
there are many points of view mentioned that I have opposing views to. In this essay I
will be articulating my thoughts on these claims and criticisms.... Show more content

The author supports this claim by intertwining quotes from Spiegelman himself with
her own interpretations of the effectiveness of putting the story in comic form. Chute
mentions that most critics discuss Maus in terms of the seriousness and accuracy of
the pieces representation of the Holocaust, that is, they focus more on the content of
the story than the medium in which it is presented. In The Shadow of a Past Time ,
she argues that these critics do not pay enough attention to the specificities of reading
a visual source, that everything contained within the page is a crucial unit of comic
grammar (Chute, 200). The point that she makes that I agree the most strongly with
is her statement that the form of Maus is essential to how it represents history (Chute,
Racist Language Policies Of South African Universities
Essay
The controversial film, Luister is centred around the racist language policies of
South African universities, particularly, that of Stellenbosch. Through the use of a
racial ideological framework, the following essay will compare Luister to a
responsive text, Afrikaners: Stand up for what is right, for our future , in order to
display how the two, take on differing and similar framing stances. A background
referring to the public sphere created by Luister will be given, but following such
the essay will focus on framing. This will begin with the comparison of the
narrative framing of both texts as well as the view they portray towards
Afrikaners. Lastly, a comparison of the texts framing towards racial social
structure and protesting will be delved into. When Dan Corden released Luister on
the 20th of August, it sparked much controversy and ultimately resulted in a public
sphere (Nicolson, 2015). This refers to a platform where citizens discuss and
debate a public matter of concern (Howley, 2007, p. 342). The public sphere
created by Luister focuses on the debate of racism in universities, and whether
more should be done, particularly, in the sector of universities language policies
(Nicolson, 2015). Many people have responded, some arguing the film is biased
towards Black South Africans; others seeing it as a very valid message to racism
(Nicolson, 2015). One of the articles that has come out of the online public sphere, is
that of Joshua Loots article,
Freedom Of Religion And Religion
Our country s founders who were of different religious backgrounds themselves knew
the best way to protect religious liberty was to keep the government out of religion.
So they created the First Amendment to guarantee the separation of church and state.
This fundamental freedom is a major reason why the U.S. has managed to avoid a lot
of the religious conflicts that have torn so many other nations apart (n.d.). The
American Constitution refers to religious freedom as being able to practice the
religionof your choice without it being forced upon you. Either individuals chose
what religion to practice or they practice no religion at all. Like all things there
will always be some sort of controversy. Freedom of religion has both positive and
negative impacts. A positive impact of religious freedom is the fact that individuals
have a choice. We have the freedom to practice whichever religion we chose. On the
other hand, we have the choice to not practice any religion. A negative impact is; it
allows people to avoid taking responsibility for their actions by justifying their
misconduct with the religion they practice.
The United States is the most religiously diverse country in the world. In no other
nation can you find as many varied religious groups, beliefs and practices as there are
here. The Founders recognized in their own times the great theological differences
among not only different religions but also among the many Protestant sects (Knief,
2011). An important
Essay about The Life of William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was a very talented man known for his various works of
literature. His works include poems, plays, and sonnets. His works are then broken
down into tragedies, comedies, and histories. Shakespeare left this world centuries
ago, but his writings continue to live throughout the world today. He has greatly
impacted the world of literature and his existence will forever be remembered. In
1564, William Shakespearewas born in Stratford upon Avon (Hazell 32). It seems
that Shakespeare s career began around the year 1592. This was a tough time for

Along with being translated into every language, Shakespeare s words reach and
are accepted by multiple races and cultures (McMillan). A reason William
Shakespeare is accepted by multiple races could be the fact that he does not ignore
the issues and tensions between them and instead makes light of them by
including them in his plays such as Othello and The Merchant of Venice. He
addresses the struggles between different colors and religions. He never takes a
designated side; he simply tells a story which is what has helped him be so well
accepted ( Race Introduction ). Not only has Shakespeare related to his audiences
through racial aspects, but also through common emotional experiences.
Shakespeare used his words and made them speak to his audiences using emotional
feelings that anyone would naturally feel (McMillan). His works can be classified
into three main categories: tragedies, histories, and comedies ( William
Shakespeare 656). Each of these categories has characters that the audience can
relate to somehow. With Shakespeare s tragedies, his characters are noble heroes
that are looked up to that are all facing tragedy. His histories obviously tell the
stories of events that have happened for people to relate to. William Shakespeare s
comedies have characters that many find irresistible. And lastly, the women in his
plays can also be relatable. We can all

Good Will Hunting Archetypes

situations or journey archetypes that are paramount to the audience understanding the
many facets of Will Hunting s personality. An archetypal situation or journey is a
situation that follows the patterns found in human nature and the universe. When
used in stories, there are often many situation or journey archetypes employed in
order to make a point. The journeys and situation featured in Good Will Huntingare
the quest for identity, innate wisdom versus educated stupidity and the fall. The quest

This quest for identity allows Will, and by extension the audience, to form a solid
idea of his personality. In the beginning, Will does not have a solid idea of who he
is, therefore, making it hard for the audience to understand him and subsequently,
Will s actions. As he works with the psychologist to discover himself, many of the
reasons behind his behaviour become clearer. At the beginning, Will is shown to
be argumentative and a narcissistic young man who has a blatant disregard for his
future. As the psychologist shows us, Will thinks he is above everyone else, I look
at you. I don t see an intelligent, confident man. I see a cocky, scared shitless kid.
(Good Will Hunting, 1997) This quote presents to the audience, the image that Will
has tried to paint of himself and how the psychologist is able to see right through it.
As he opens up to the psychologist, we are shown that he is very smart, enjoys
reading and has a complex understanding of human nature. As the sessions with the
psychologist continue, the audience is able to follow along with Will as he discovers
himself and form their own understanding of his personality. The result of the
understanding is that the audience is now able to better understand the way Will

In the film, The Avengers, directed and written by Joss Whendon incorporates

Political Ideologies And The Basic Philosophy Of A

Any social and political system that is established in any nation is designed on the
fundamental principles of their existence, which define their cultures, their needs,
their demands and the concept of their living. From this we can deduce that a kind
of charter comprising of the values, ideas, thoughts, principles and the ethical

equality in social, cultural, educational, political, economic, recreational,

century when the concept behind this ideology was entirely different to what it is
perceived today. Feminism was composed to bring about justice to the
underprivileged members of the society, irrespective of their caste, color, race or

because they lacked the normal atonement to the living standards brought about by
the trend setters. Feminism aimed at highlighting the plight of such individuals, by

It should be noticed that these revolutions erupted in the western world, where
transgression of women was at its peak and the female counterparts were often
victimized to be treated as highly dejected human beings. Women laborers were paid

Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark
Sometimes, man is too eager to repair natural imperfections that may exist using
science, rather than seeing these imperfections as beautiful natural occurrences,
which will eventually lead to the destruction of nature. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The
Birthmark, it appears that Aylmer the main character wants to show the world that
perfection is not beauty, and he demonstrates this with his wife Georgiana and that
science should not alter the way that nature set man on this world to be. Hawthorne
was a major asset to the transcendental movement, and this short story is a perfect
example why. Nathaniel Hawthorneattempts to show the world the comparison
between perfection and beauty mainly by: a psychoanalytic version of the plot and
Sigmund Freuds three fundamentals.
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark, the main character, Aylmer, wants to have
a perfect wife. His wife, Georgiana, is a very beautiful woman with just one flaw, the
birthmark on her face. As a scientist, Aylmer tries to create a solution that will get rid
of Georgiana s birthmark, thus making her perfect. According to Hawthorne,
however, this is not possible.
During the transcendental phase of American life, which involved literature from
Hawthorne, transcendental writers would support Nature and its importance. In The
Birthmark, Nathaniel Hawthorne tries to show the people that nature does not make
anything flawless, and that this is the beauty of it. Nature, in one shape or another,
stamps ineffably

The Debate On Immigration Reform
Abstract: Until the bill passed, much of the debate surrounding the Development,
Relief, and Education for Alien Minors, or DREAM Act, brought about legal, ethical,
and logistical concerns. Illegal immigration and the population unauthorized alien in
the United States were key issues in the ongoing debate on immigrationreform.
However, the benefits of this bill outweighed its disadvantages. Immigration
policies in the United States concerning undocumented workers are strict and
direct. Employers are not allowed to employ illegal or undocumented immigrants.
The DREAM Act which was enacted by the Obama administration s announcement
of deferred action for deportation of undocumented youths provides alternates.
Under the provision of this law, a person is eligible for citizenship if they came to
the United states at age 15 or younger, are currently 35 or younger, have been
resent in the country for at least five years, completed high school, and completed
at least two years of higher education or honorably served in the armed forces for at
least two years (Guzman Jara, 2012). The advantages of Dream Act as well as its
disadvantages on the US economy would be analyzed. Future analysis and other
immigrant working situations would also be evaluated.
Introduction:
Employment policies regarding hiring immigrants have been fairly straight forward
since the early nineteenth century. The Unites States law provides employers with

natural and organic products have increased. This means that Whole Foods Market s
competition is growing because different stores are catering to the consumers wants.
So, since Whole Foods Market is the leading market retailer, how are they going to
continue to grow in an increasingly competitive market? This question can be simply
answered: they will be able to continue to grow because of their strategic plan.
Combating an Increasing Competitive Market A strategic plan will basically layout
the goals and the general direction of what the company wants to accomplish. A
great way to analyze a strategic plan is a strategic audit. A strategic audit is a
checklist of questions about a certain aspect of the company or issue that triggers a
deeper analysis
Rx For Survival
The second installment of the video series Rx for Survival, concerned itself with
implications pertaining to bacteria that have become antibiotic resistant and was
titled Rise of the Superbugs. The video presented the cases of individuals who were
afflicted with maladies resulting from bacterial infections that were not being
impeded by the normative pharmaceutical care that we have used for many decades
and take for granted.
The video represented the rise of drug resistant bacteria as a result of patients not
following through on their full course of antibiotic therapy as they begin to feel
better, and this left the naturally resistant bacteria to multiply and reestablish illness,
which subsequently would become harder to eliminate with ... Show more content on

Further, it was relayed that multiple drug resistant tuberculosis is being seen in
impoverished areas, which are prime disease transmission vectors owing to people
living in close proximity, and this is complicated by the ease at which the bacteria
pass through the air (Rx for Survival, 2005). With this in mind, I think that our lives
would be significantly altered if most disease causing bacteria developed resistance to
drug treatments. It seems highly likely that initially, there would be a significant
mortality in the world s human populous due to our proximal living conditions and
travel proclivities. Aside from this, humanity would be forced to regard every
individual as a potential untreatable disease carrier, which by necessity, would
preclude unprotected contact with people whose health status is unknown.
This video provided a stark look at a serious problem that faces us on the disease
front, and it also lent a glimpse into a real possibility that looms over mankind:
being thrust back to the time when we were powerless to stop bacterial infections.
Scientific research may be our best hope to find new antibiotics capable of warding
off pathogenic bacteria for a number of decades, until once again, they become
resistant. Or perhaps, as in the case presented in the video of Fleming s initial
discovery of antibiotics (Rx for Survival, 2005), chance will favor us and someone
will stumble upon a new
Identifying The Patterns Of Social Acceptance
In the context of parties of people, I was particularly interested in finding the
patterns of social acceptance, and the ways that people incorporate themselves
into groups. An example of such acceptance can be the pattern of individuals who
completely ignore groups around them by staring at their phone; compared to
those who strike conversations with people they haven t met before. Addressed,
also, are ways that people use more passive technique to identify themselves and
how this resembles their social circle. Note taking was taken in two spots with the
overall time of note taking to roughly 1 hour. The first area was the quad. This area
was where the majority of notes were written. I selected this area in particular
because of the traffic during lunch hours. In order to get a good viewing angle of
the quad, I sat under in the southwest corner of the quad and began taking notes.
The other part of my notes were written in a more progressive manner. I
specifically took notes of group patterns during lecture, and regularly would ask
questions focused on such. Finding a correlation between the different questions
asked, and a behavioral response is how I drew my conclusions. I am always
fascinated between how people socialize. This topic is close to my heart because I
was an extreme introvert before my final years of high school. Not being able to just
start a simple conversationbecause of social anxiety is one of the worst feelings
anybody can have, and it takes a lot
Simulation Reflection Paper
Simulation Reflection The simulation was very interesting in that my partner and I
were given an opportunity to think critically about how to approach to influence
different managers and workers with different characteristics. By running the
simulation twice, it allowed us to find out what actions have worked and what did not
during the first run, and then second run allowed us to apply what we learned to
complete the second simulation in a much more efficient and timely manner. There
are three stages in the simulation, including mobilization, movement, and sustain
phases. The simulation begins in the mobilization phase, and in this phase it was
important to get everyone aware of the new change we wish to initiate in the
company. The key... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that we have completed the simulation, we realized that we would rather want
to conduct private means of persuasions in precedent to more public ones. In other
words, we understood that embarking our crews on a same boat comes before
guiding all of our crews to focus on the same
Essay On Rodeo
The Rodeo World Rodeo has been around for several decades and has gradually
become very popular around the world. The three events that have been apart of the
rodeo since the beginning include saddle bronc, steer roping, and bull riding. Rodeo
is a great sport for cowboys and cowgirls to compete in an event that suits their
lifestyle. These contests have changed dramatically since the first official rodeoin the
late 1800 s. Because the rodeo event was created in 1888, ranchers culture has been
brought to the world and created into a world wide sport.
HISTORY OF RODEO
The roots of rodeo trace back to the Spanish settling California and becoming cattle
ranchers. The vaqueros skills were learned and passed down to the American
cowboys who was keen on accomplishing the skills of the Spaniards. These abilities
were passed down easily because the frontier territories were heavily expanding after
the civil war. In the late 1800s, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The events varied greatly from rodeo to rodeo. The world s oldest rodeo was in
Prescott, Arizona and held its first competition on July 4th, 1888. Later rodeos
began branching off of the first Prescott competition. This rodeo established prizes
awards, rules for competition, admission charged, cowboys invited to complete,
and a committee to organize. The events include bronc riding, steer roping, and
cow pony races. The first rodeo was called a Cowboy Tournament and was added
to the 4th of July activities(Freeman, Danny). They added these to encourage more
people to come to town and spend money at the merchants and enjoy the festivities.
Many towns today hold a rodeo at their local arena on the 4th of July. It is a very
popular date to hold an event. Patriotism attracts people from all over the state to
attend these rodeos held on special holidays. The Prescott Rodeo was a great success
and the contestants and spectators were thrilled with the entire
Charles Dickens Hard Times For These Times
Fancy is a noun. It means the power of the mind to imagine things. Do not think
about it; do not think about thinking about it. Just memorize it. Can you? There is
only one right path that society has pinned you on. Like a toy car on a wooden
train track, you are expected to complete the course without straying from it. If you
do, you are considered broken. Yet, what exactly is the point of mindlessly walking
the same path as everyone else, only to constantly find yourself memorizing empty
facts over and over again? In Hard Timesfor these Times, Charles Dickensembodies
the consequences of an absolutely factual world: blindness, imbalance, and
nonfulfillment. Through the convoluted stories of the opposite worlds, Sissy s
journey to becoming a jewel of balance, Louisa s tragic fight for fulfillment, and the
harmonious character Sleary, Dickens defines the urgency for the proportional
combination of fact and fancy.
Gradgrind s education system is structured to plucking imagination and emotions out
of the lives of children, resulting in dangerous, machine like human beings. He
closed mindedly abides to rules and facts; dreams and abstractness is a crime. For
example, Bounderby, Gradgrind s subordinate, insists that his workers expect to be
fed on turtle soup and vension, with a golden spoon (72), while on the other hand, the
workers believe that they are unfairly treated like dumb objects. Both Bounderby and
the workers think their opinion is the fact, but it shrivels

For the longest time in our history the practice of drug wars have led to exceptional rates of incarceration and marginalization of many Americans, targeting poor people and people of color while failing to lower the actually issue at hand of drug use and other drug related harms. In this paper, I will address and define the terms decriminalization and harm reduction. Strategies such as safer use, managed abstinence, and addressing conditions of drug usage. These strategies aim to protect the health, respect, and rights of the individuals touched by drug use. In essence, harm reduction is a social movement, built on justice for the individuals, communities, cities, and countries. (Dingel, 2015) Prescription opiates are several drugs that originate from white juice of certain species of poppy. Some commonly used opiates are: Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Codeine, Heroin, Morphine, and many more. They act as a depressant on the human body that include and are not limited too; pain relief, sedation, muscular relaxation, and euphoria(Conrard,1992). Opiates fundamentally are depressants of the nervous system. Continued use of opiates leads to a physical tolerance, where dosages must be increased to maintain the physical effect. A benefit that presents from the use of opiates is in medical practice, A standard British medical text, used widely in America, recommended opium for a variety of common medical problems: to mitigate pain, to allay spasm, to promote sleep, to relieve nervous restlessness...But experience has proved its value in relieving some diseases in which not one of these indications can be at all time distinctly traced. (Conrard,1992) If used properly and correctly, prescribed opiates were success in relieving moderate

While I have been living in the UK for two months, I have noticed many differences between British culture and Chinese culture, especially in an aspect of social etiquette. Britain and China are both countries that have the long history and splendid civilisations, have been known for their ceremonies and etiquette through the ages. However, as the typical representative of the Western cultureand the Eastern culture, it can be something unique and distinct of social etiquette between this two countries, in the aspects of meeting and greeting, visiting a home, gift giving, table manners, compliment and gratitude. The British seem to be reserved when they first meet someone. The handshake is a standard way of greeting in Britain, even for children, and there are no issues over gender. (10 British Etiquette and Customs you should learn, 2017) Chinese people also shake hands upon meeting, merely, in the formal or official occasion, and simultaneously lower their eyes slightly as a sign of respect. People only nod or salute instead of shaking hands as a greeting to friends and family. In Britain, sometimes people will embrace or kiss the other person if they are family or a very close friend. (10 British Etiquette and Customs you should learn, 2017) In China, people seem to be more conservative because they rarely treat others with hug or kiss unless they are the lovers. Both in Britain and China, use people s family names is appropriate when you address an unfamiliar person.

Research methods and outcomes for Australian Indigenous preterm births Introduction: It is the responsibility of Health Care Practitioners to stay abreast of the latest research, while enhancing research skills, ensuring the most current evidence based information guaranteeing the highest level of care. This paper will explore the development of research techniques and the tools available to establish the factors that increase the risk of preterm birth amongst the Indigenous women of Australia, with a particular focus in rural areas. 1. Throughout the Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Queensland, several databases provide the most current research in clinical practice; these include CINAHL and Medline. These databases contain specifically chosen research to ensure the more relevant studies are more accessible, rather than the random selection by robots through Google and/or Google Scholar. To address the topic of this assessment, I began my search for two peer reviewed journal articles using CINAHL, including limiting the dates to 2011 2016, peer reviewed and key words such as; risk factors or causes and preterm birth or premature birth or premature infant and Australian Aboriginal* or Australian Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander* Unfortunately, this search did not produce any results, I then extended my search to include the Medline database which produced three articles, one of which did not appear to address the issues of preterm birth in
  • 5. Pros And Cons Of Computed Tomography Computed Tomography (CT) is an excellent tool in the medical field for the detection of diseases and injuries. Since its initial introduction in the 1970s, it has revolutionized imaging techniques which were limited, and over time it has grown more powerful with advances in technology. These improvements have led to more detailed images, and faster imaging speeds, but it also led to a huge popularity among the technology. This popularity has spiked its usage over the last quarter of contrary, leading to better diagnosis s and also exposing more patients and to multiple scan, with compounding radiation. The radiation in CT scans is much higher than natural exposure and even X rays, which has led many scholar to view the technology as a possible concern over how much radiation it is exposing the public too. The review mentions a 2005 report, CT scans only consisted of 11% of all medical x ray exposures, but contributed to 67% of the general populations total radiation dose. The fact of simplicity of use will convince many technologists to include bismuth shields into their
  • 6. Attraction and Contradictions of Life Essay William Shakespeare in his play of Antony and Cleopatra has many suggestions on the topic of the attractions and contradictions of the political and erotic life, but also of the suggesting of a third kind of way of life that transcends the political and the erotic ones. Throughout the play Shakespeare presents the emotions between Antony and Cleopatrain many different ways that could be interpreted as loveor even perhaps lust at times. Cleopatra was a woman of high maintenance, but yet she did seem to love Antony a lot as she tried everything to keep him with her. At the beginning of this play we see Cleopatra testing Antony s love for her by saying If it be love indeed, tell me how much. This gives the impression of Cleopatra s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... O er my spirit thy full supremacy thou knew st, and that thy beck might from the bidding of the gods, command me. This quote shows that love and power are attractions of each other as Antony s love for Cleopatra forces him to follow her. She is the commander of his actions, even in the political and military areas of his life, because of his overpowering love for her. Power in the play is apparently a political force, as the play turns around the competition between Antony and Caesar for dominance in Rome. But it has other faces too, most notably the effect of love. Antony refuses to be dominated by Caesar, but he willingly submits to Cleopatra. Power is thus a political and a personal force, one that impacts the desires of both individuals. Caesar states that between love and political power, there is a certain degree of interaction between both of the entities in life which I thus is a direct correlation. I should have known no less. It hath been taught us from the primal state that he which is wish d until he were; and the ebb d man, ne er lov d till ne er worth love, comes dear d by being lack d. What Caesar mean, is that people in power are never missed or appreciated until they are gone. People are ungrateful, or unable to see the good in front of them, especially when it comes to those who rule them. It s easier to complain against those in power than to praise their good. Same applies to love, that at times we do not

  • 8. Problems Of The Circus Essay Problems of the Circus When I look at animals held captive I think of slavery. Animals in circuses represent the domination and oppression we have fought against for so long. They wear the same chains and shackles. The United States Animal Welfare has standards of care. When looking at the major circuses, they have all been cited for violating the standards. Animals feel just as much, if not more emotions and humans. Circuses should be eliminated completely because of the animals dangerous living conditions, the long term damage it does to the animals, and the mammals could pose a potential threat to the spectators. Their living and traveling conditions are not ideal; they should be living in the wild. The animals spend most of their time locked up in chains and separated from their families with no choice. Kenny, a three year old Asian Elephantdied one night after the circus made him perform while sick. As a three year old, in the wild, he would just now be beginning to wean, which means to start eating other foods rather than the mother s milk, not spending countless hours mastering tricks. Deborah Nelson quotes federal regulations, saying sick elephants must get prompt medical care and veterinarian s okay before performing, (p48 57) but he did not get get either of those. Kenny got sick all three times he went out to perform, and it did not get any better. A couple hours later, the officials found the helpless three year old elephant dead on the hard concrete floor.

They are made up of small threads, each less than 0.05 inch (1.3 mm) long and 10 to 20 micrometers in diameter. White fibre is smoother and finer, but also weaker. The coir fibre is relatively waterproof and is the only natural fibre resistant to damage by salt water. Green coconuts, harvested after about six to twelve months on the plant, contain pliable white fibres. Brown fibre is obtained by harvesting fully mature coconuts when the nutritious layer surrounding the seed is ready to be processed into copra and desiccated coconut. The fibrous layer of the fruit is then separated from the hard shell (manually) by driving the fruit down onto a spike to split it (De husking). Machines are now available which crush the whole fruit to give the loose fibres. The long bristle fibres are separated from the shorter mattress fibres underneath the skin of the nut, a process known as

It can be the factor through which a desire may become an prosperous aspiration or a destructive lust. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein follows the life of Victor Frankenstein, an imprudent man who is consumed by his ambition to reanimate a dead body. Correspondingly, in Robert Louis Stevensons The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, a meritorious doctor, Henry Jekyll, is blinded by his iniquitous ambition and creates a potion that physically and mentally dichotomizes the two sides of his personality. However, when faces its grotesque appearance the beauty of [his] dream [vanishes], and breathless horror and disgust [fills his heart]. Unable to endure the aspect of the being [he] had created, [he rushes] out of the room (58 Shelley). Victor s unrestricted pursuit of ambition consumes his logic, blurring him from the reality of his creature s appearance. Victor s initial reaction to the physical deformity of his creation stands as a manifestation of society s unjust correlation between external disfigurement and an inner monstrosity. He demonstrates usual social behavior, for within the time period he resides acceptance was heavily based on a form of appearance. This social setting influences Victor to abandon any morals or self conscience, idiosyncrasies he once possessed, and forsake his creature solely based on its displeasing corporeal figure. Similarly, Dr. Henry Jekyll is influenced by the social setting into neglecting his conscience. In his complete statement of the case, Jekyll confesses the truth behind his scientific experiments and how Mr. Hyde came to be. He elucidates that there are men in the world who hire others to commit their sins to remain revered. However, Jekyll views himself as the first that ever did so for his pleasures and out of pure repression, presents the public eye with a load of genial respectability (Stevenson 60). Stevenson s novel is set during the Victorian Era, a time in history where people of high class were to act with a high value of moral conduct. When viewed realistically, it was difficult to meet these pragmatically conflicting social standards, therefore undesirable aspects of people s lives became repressed to ensure

The Functionalist perspective speaks about how society maintains stability through interconnected parts. The Conflict perspective looks at the current way the world looks, and looks to see if power and resources are distributed properly. On the other hand, the Feminist perspective looks at the role that genderplays in our society, and fights for equality between men and women. Lastly, the Internationalist perspective works to understand society as one unit. Personally, the theoretical perspective that I support of these four would be the Feminist perspective. I favour this perspective because it

  • 16. Analysis Of Grendel And The Epic Of Beowulf Merriam Webster defines a hero as a person who is admired for great or brave acts and defines a villain as a character who does bad things. These definitions may not be so indubitable as John Gardner takes a hero and villain to a whole new level in his novel, Grendel. Throughout the years of novels and short stories, heroes and villains have been constructed as strictly good versus evil, but what if there is good in evil and evil in good? Grendel and the epic, Beowulf, revolve around this idea of heroes and villains and good versus evil. Gardner s twist on the stereotypical hero leads to the true definition of a hero being changed as he creates one who has a nihilistic view on his atypical life. A hero in the eyes of the Anglo Saxonshas superman strength, undertakes a great quest which relates to society s values, battles a great monster, and is required to pay homage to a god. Beowulf makes it black and white on whom the hero and villain are; Beowulf being the wonderful hero who kills the inimical villain, Grendel. Gardner s novel, Grendel, has a skewed view on who the hero and villain Gardner uses the villain from Beowulf and creates a novel around him and his viewpoints on his world. However Grendel fits almost perfectly into the characteristics of a hero, according to the Anglo Saxons. He posses super strength which is demonstrated through the altercations he has with man. In fact, man is Grendel s evil or villain. Chapter one includes examples to prove Grendel s

During the Gilded Age, wages were very low even though people were getting injured or sick from their job. According to the American History textbook, Lapsansky Werner discusses, When Carnegie amasses a fortune, steelworkers in his plant labored to 10 12 hours a day, six days a week, for about 15 cents an hour. For example, the struggle someone goes through when trying to figure out what the right thing to do for them morally. The film follows Terry, a brutish type character yet very empathetic of a man. This type of character makes the audience feel for someone going through this kind of turmoil as they feel for him in a way as though it were themselves having this dilemma. On the Waterfrontplays with the gray area in life, and frustration of it there never being a black and white answer. For Terry, the symbol for the black or bad guys are the people who are his only family and were there for him his whole life. The white or good guys being love and moral duty that are portrayed by Edie Doyle and Father Barry. The good show him a world out there that he doesn t have to betray himself on what he feels is wrong. Though how can he go against all those that have stood for him and raised him up when he had nothing? It is only when the decision is almost made for him, when the bad guys kill Terry s brother, that he is able to rise to what is right to him and speak to the law. Terry is almost a symbol for Kazan in this time period, after and during the HUAC trials period. Kazan seemed to a struggle with what the right thing to do was, as many of his fiends could be identified with the communist party. Kazan felt as though the only moral thing to do was to name names. He looked at the Communist Party as one with current day Russia at the time and the horrible things it is performing, including its persecution against Poland and Czechoslovakia. Though if Kazan were to talk and name names he would be going against his friends. This is like Terry, where talking is going against his family or the mob but staying silent would mean there would be more people like Joey Doyle getting knocked off. Terry fills as though this would be at his dispense, just as Kazan seemed to feel the same about the Communist Party. Him talking to the HUAC was incredibly interesting, as Kazan previous works and by the friends he surrounded himself with. One of his more prominent friendships was with Arthur Miller. Iodine Clock Lab Report Iodine Clock refers to a group of reactions which involve the mixing of two colorless solutions to produce a solution which gives rise to an initial induction period, before a sudden change creates a deep purple blue color (http://web.mst.edu/~gbert/IClock /discussion.htm) For the reaction to occur, certain conditions must be met. When starch is mixed with iodine in water, an intensely colored starch/iodine complex is formed (http://antoine.frostburg.edu/chem/senese/101/redox/faq/starch as redox indicator.shtml). This is because an iodine molecule slips into an amylose coil, part of starch, to create the blue black color. Freedom Of Religion And Religion Our country s founders who were of different religious backgrounds themselves knew the best way to protect religious liberty was to keep the government out of religion. So they created the First Amendment to guarantee the separation of church and state. This fundamental freedom is a major reason why the U.S. has managed to avoid a lot of the religious conflicts that have torn so many other nations apart (n.d.). The American Constitution refers to religious freedom as being able to practice the religionof your choice without it being forced upon you. Either individuals chose what religion to practice or they practice no religion at all. Like all things there will always be some sort of controversy. Freedom of religion has both positive and negative impacts. A positive impact of religious freedom is the fact that individuals have a choice. We have the freedom to practice whichever religion we chose. On the other hand, we have the choice to not practice any religion. A negative impact is; it allows people to avoid taking responsibility for their actions by justifying their misconduct with the religion they practice. The United States is the most religiously diverse country in the world. In no other nation can you find as many varied religious groups, beliefs and practices as there are here. The Founders recognized in their own times the great theological differences among not only different religions but also among the many Protestant sects (Knief, 2011). An important

A reason William Shakespeare is accepted by multiple races could be the fact that he does not ignore the issues and tensions between them and instead makes light of them by including them in his plays such as Othello and The Merchant of Venice. He addresses the struggles between different colors and religions. He never takes a designated side; he simply tells a story which is what has helped him be so well accepted ( Race Introduction ). Not only has Shakespeare related to his audiences through racial aspects, but also through common emotional experiences. It seems highly likely that initially, there would be a significant mortality in the world s human populous due to our proximal living conditions and travel proclivities. Aside from this, humanity would be forced to regard every individual as a potential untreatable disease carrier, which by necessity, would preclude unprotected contact with people whose health status is unknown. This video provided a stark look at a serious problem that faces us on the disease front, and it also lent a glimpse into a real possibility that looms over mankind: being thrust back to the time when we were powerless to stop bacterial infections. Scientific research may be our best hope to find new antibiotics capable of warding off pathogenic bacteria for a number of decades, until once again, they become resistant. Or perhaps, as in the case presented in the video of Fleming s initial discovery of antibiotics (Rx for Survival, 2005), chance will favor us and someone will stumble upon a new
  • 44. Identifying The Patterns Of Social Acceptance In the context of parties of people, I was particularly interested in finding the patterns of social acceptance, and the ways that people incorporate themselves into groups. An example of such acceptance can be the pattern of individuals who completely ignore groups around them by staring at their phone; compared to those who strike conversations with people they haven t met before. Addressed, also, are ways that people use more passive technique to identify themselves and how this resembles their social circle. Note taking was taken in two spots with the overall time of note taking to roughly 1 hour. The first area was the quad. This area was where the majority of notes were written. I selected this area in particular because of the traffic during lunch hours. In order to get a good viewing angle of the quad, I sat under in the southwest corner of the quad and began taking notes. The other part of my notes were written in a more progressive manner. I specifically took notes of group patterns during lecture, and regularly would ask questions focused on such. Finding a correlation between the different questions asked, and a behavioral response is how I drew my conclusions. I am always fascinated between how people socialize. This topic is close to my heart because I was an extreme introvert before my final years of high school. Not being able to just start a simple conversationbecause of social anxiety is one of the worst feelings anybody can have, and it takes a lot
  • 45. Simulation Reflection Paper Simulation Reflection The simulation was very interesting in that my partner and I were given an opportunity to think critically about how to approach to influence different managers and workers with different characteristics. By running the simulation twice, it allowed us to find out what actions have worked and what did not during the first run, and then second run allowed us to apply what we learned to complete the second simulation in a much more efficient and timely manner. There are three stages in the simulation, including mobilization, movement, and sustain phases. The simulation begins in the mobilization phase, and in this phase it was important to get everyone aware of the new change we wish to initiate in the company. The key... In other words, we understood that embarking our crews on a same boat comes before guiding all of our crews to focus on the same
  • 46. Essay On Rodeo The Rodeo World Rodeo has been around for several decades and has gradually become very popular around the world. The three events that have been apart of the rodeo since the beginning include saddle bronc, steer roping, and bull riding. Rodeo is a great sport for cowboys and cowgirls to compete in an event that suits their lifestyle. These contests have changed dramatically since the first official rodeoin the late 1800 s. Because the rodeo event was created in 1888, ranchers culture has been brought to the world and created into a world wide sport. HISTORY OF RODEO The roots of rodeo trace back to the Spanish settling California and becoming cattle ranchers. The vaqueros skills were learned and passed down to the American cowboys who was keen on accomplishing the skills of the Spaniards. These abilities were passed down easily because the frontier territories were heavily expanding after the civil war. In the late 1800s, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The events varied greatly from rodeo to rodeo. The world s oldest rodeo was in Prescott, Arizona and held its first competition on July 4th, 1888. Later rodeos began branching off of the first Prescott competition. This rodeo established prizes awards, rules for competition, admission charged, cowboys invited to complete, and a committee to organize. The events include bronc riding, steer roping, and cow pony races. The first rodeo was called a Cowboy Tournament and was added to the 4th of July activities(Freeman, Danny). They added these to encourage more people to come to town and spend money at the merchants and enjoy the festivities. Many towns today hold a rodeo at their local arena on the 4th of July. It is a very popular date to hold an event. Patriotism attracts people from all over the state to attend these rodeos held on special holidays. The Prescott Rodeo was a great success and the contestants and spectators were thrilled with the entire
  • 47. Charles Dickens Hard Times For These Times Fancy is a noun. It means the power of the mind to imagine things. Do not think about it; do not think about thinking about it. Just memorize it. Can you? There is only one right path that society has pinned you on. Like a toy car on a wooden train track, you are expected to complete the course without straying from it. If you do, you are considered broken. Yet, what exactly is the point of mindlessly walking the same path as everyone else, only to constantly find yourself memorizing empty facts over and over again? In Hard Timesfor these Times, Charles Dickensembodies the consequences of an absolutely factual world: blindness, imbalance, and nonfulfillment. Through the convoluted stories of the opposite worlds, Sissy s journey to becoming a jewel of balance, Louisa s tragic fight for fulfillment, and the harmonious character Sleary, Dickens defines the urgency for the proportional combination of fact and fancy. Gradgrind s education system is structured to plucking imagination and emotions out of the lives of children, resulting in dangerous, machine like human beings. He closed mindedly abides to rules and facts; dreams and abstractness is a crime. For example, Bounderby, Gradgrind s subordinate, insists that his workers expect to be fed on turtle soup and vension, with a golden spoon (72), while on the other hand, the workers believe that they are unfairly treated like dumb objects. Both Bounderby and the workers think their opinion is the fact, but it shrivels
