C.S.Lewis
C.S. Lewis: Christian Apologist
Included in the 10 most influential Christians of the 20th century alongside Karl Barth, Pope John
XXIII, Martin Luther King Jr, and Billy Graham, the Christian History magazine named him the
atheist scholar who became an Anglican, an apologist, and a patron saint of Christians everywhere. He
was also dubbed as an apostle to the skeptics because he resolutely answered frequent objections
individuals had when it came to accepting Christ as their Savior (christianodyssey.com).
Born into a Protestant family in Ireland on November 29, 1898, C.S. Lewis was the son of A.J. Lewis,
a solicitor, and Flora Augusta, a promising mathematician. He bore a lonely and unhappy childhood.
Especially crushed by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everybody possesses an internal sense of moral obligation to realize the difference between right and
wrong and choose to do what is right. Lewis ascertains that the existence of this common moral
conscience, can only be the consequential result from the existence of a god who created all humans.
(about.com).
C.S. Lewis disputed for reason based Christianity as opposed to faith based Christianity. This is a
questionable decision on Lewis part because conventional Christianity is indisputably faith based.
Lewis principal readers were supposed to be skeptics and atheists rather than current believers.
Skeptics doubt for lack of reason and evidence; therefore, only reason and evidence is more likely to
draw their reconsideration. In his book, Mere Christianity, Lewis writes: I am not asking anyone to
accept Christianity if his best reasoning tells him that the weight of the evidence is against it.
(about.com).
One of Lewis most often quoted statements is from Mere Christianity, where he uses reason and logic
to introduce three possibilities to us (often known as the Lewis trilemma ). According to this trilemma,
either Jesus really was God and intentionally lying, or was not God but reckoned himself to be (which
would make him a lunatic). Mere Christianity goes on to say that the latter likelihood is not consistent
with Jesus character and it is, therefore, most likely that he was being truthful

Comparing Wittenberg s Hamlet And Doctor Faustus
Wittenberg was a tragical comedy performed at our very own Roger Williams University. It was a play
starring three main characters. There was Hamlet, Martin Luther, and Doctor Faustus. Through out the
play Hamlet confides in both Luther and Faustus, who happen to both teach at the University of
Wittenberg. Luther is a professor of theology as well as a priest. Another professor at the University is
Dr. Faustus, who is a philosophical professor. He also helps people who encounter difficulties with
spiritual and psychological troubles. Both instructors help advise Hamlet who is a young danish prince
and a student at the University. Except Hamlet finds himself receiving two completely opposing
directions of guidance. Hamlet discusses psychological

Why Is Oscar Wilde A Literary Critic
I was a man who stood in the symbolic relations to the art and culture of my age.
The late Victorian period saw a revolution in the spheres of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew
Arnold, Walter Pater and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of the
mid and late Victorian period. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on
literature, paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a brand new form of art. Their new
theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for the period, which has come to be known as The
English Renaissance of Art. This English Renaissance of Art was defined by Oscar Wilde as: a sort of
new birth of the spirit of man, like the great Italian Renaissance ... Show more content on

One critic complained about Wilde s Pen, Pencil and Poison and wrote, that the joke had gone far
enough. Other reviewers wished that Wilde would get on with thought itself, and dropped his showy
paradoxes in order to devote himself to writing something more solid and reasonable. Wilde s
Intentions according to Lawrence Danson: shows the ability to gather up fragments, to call and reply
to simultaneously themselves and others like the stringed lute on which all winds can play or the twice
written scroll of his poem Hélas . Intentions shows the depth of Oscar Wilde s reading of literature and
knowledge of previous critical writings. But as Jonathan Freedman s introduction to A collection of
Critical Essays shows, Wilde s criticism was long left unstudied, as it was thought to be too
flamboyant. His criticism was overshadowed by his personal life: Ass thete or aesthete, gay saint or
poéte maudit. Those were the roles Wilde played in the classrooms and criticism for most of the
twentieth century. Freedman goes on to say that: only a few serious accounts of his work could be
found, particularly in the later days of new criticism; but it was largely for his flamboyant life and
exhibit of decadence that Wilde was considered. The interest in Oscar Wilde s critical writings is quite
recent and a few

Machiavelli And Plato Essay
Niccolio Machiavelli (Born May 3rd, 1469 amp;#8211; 1527 Florence, Italy.) His writings have been
the source of dispute amongst scholars due to the ambiguity of his analogy of the amp;#8216;Nature
of Politics ; and the implication of morality. The Prince, has been criticised due to it amp;#8217;s
seemingly amoral political suggestiveness, however after further scrutiny of other works such as The
Discourses, one can argue that it was Machiavelli amp;#8217;s intention to infact imply a positive
political morality. Therefore the question needs to be posed. Is Machiavelli a political amoralist? To
successfully answer this it is essential to analyse his version of political structure to establish a
possible bias. It would also be beneficial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is essential prior to judgement on whether Machiavelli is a political amoralist or not to take into
account The Discourses and the essence of their meaning. The Prince alone I grant can be mistaken for
a how to be a tyrant handbook with it amp;#8217;s absolute theories and some what lack of civility,
where amp;#8220;the end justifies the means ;. But it amp;#8217;s intention is assuming the political
leader is already of moral standing and possess such qualities of integrity and virtue to be expected of
one in the position of leadership. amp;#8220;Everybody sees what you appear to be,few feel what you
are,and those few will not dare to oppose themselves to the many, who have the majesty of the state to
defend them;and in the actions of men,and especially of princes, from which there is no appeal, the end
justifies the means ; amp;#8220;Thus it is well to seem merciful, faithful humane, sincere, religious and
also to be so. ; Effectively what seems as ruling with an iron fist is best expressed in terms of need.
The 16th Century political unrest Machiavelli is influenced by would best be unified by such absolute
power due to it amp;#8217;s degradation and lack of structure. So therefore it would not be seen as
immoral with respect to it amp;#8217;s time. And looking at it from a wider more advanced
perspective although the technique may appear rigid if it creates the desired unification

German Schools Vs American Schools
American schools and German schools have many differences.
In the United States, students customize much of their education, especially at higher grade levels.
They must study core curriculum, like math, English, and science, but also can choose what language
they take, whether they take art classes or shop class, and so forth. They make decisions about what
interests they wish to explore, and they can change that decision if they discover they do not care for
it.
German students have a much more prescribed curriculum and are not able to explore as many of their
own interests in the classroom. German students learn many of the same basics as American students,
but their education paths diverge earlier than students in the US. Starting in

From Tania With Love Themes
The James Bond film series has been intertwined with American culture ever since its initial release in
1962. Born into a culture of fear and containment, the Bond franchise flourished. The themes and
roles demonstrated during the films helped support the American values of the time, such as extreme
nationalism and conformist ideals, while helping to cement a feeling of Western superiority. In
particular, the second Bond Film, From Russia With Love, demonstrated the rhetoric being utilized
through film in America, including typical Cold War era xenophobia as well as gender normative roles
and expectations highlighted at the time. James Bond himself is seen as a symbol of western vitality

The Dark Knight Character Analysis
According to a Russian proverb, God makes the priests. Jesters come from the devil. You won t have
any trouble believing that aphorism when you see Heath Ledger s mesmerizing performance as the
Joker in The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan s masterpiece and one of the highest grossing films of
all time. Batman is no longer just a comic book, but a story that become engrossing and unfolds into a
haunting tragedy. With great performances by the entire major and supporting cast the movie creates
characters that we care and give audiences of all stripes something to satisfy them. In the Dark Knight
Batman is not just a good guy is a good guy because he does good things story but in fact a story
where you can hesitate to call a good guy at all. The people of Gotham are in turmoil and are calling
Batman a vigilante and are blaming him for the deaths of cops and other important figures in the city.
The Joker (Heath Ledger) is not just a mustache twirling villain. He s a Trickster whose deeds are
nefariously designed to pose moral dilemmas for his enemies. Gotham is under the process of
recovering from the events of Batman Begins (the first film in the franchises). The crime of the city is
at its lowest point in several decades and there is finally a sign that Gotham is working towards peace,
a peace that has been a long time coming. This low crime rate is thanks to the team work between the
three heavy hitters of law enforcement in Gotham the Batman

Early Ottoman Medicine
Early Ottoman Medicine ranged from the 16th century to the 18th century but unlike most places of
the time, its medicinal knowledge was not isolated. The Ottomans had a very diverse body of
knowledge and based their practices on ideas from all around the world. The knowledge came from
the traditions of medieval Islam and central Asia. They also collected information from many sources
such as Greek, Persian and Turkish books. When it came to immigrants, Ottomans always had open
arms. By doing this, they were able to collect information from Iranian physicians and Jews who were
running from persecution in countries such as Spain, Portugal and Italy. The Ottomans collected
information from all around the world, helping them implement the most advanced and up to date
practices. However, not all of their practices were advanced. In early Ottoman medicine there was a
wide range of medical practices ranging from those deemed superstitious and supernatural to practices
considered extremely advanced. Some Ottoman physicians practiced advanced methods but they did
not come from advanced beliefs. The beliefs of Humoralism, one of the three types of medicine
practiced at the time would today be laughed at. Humoralists believed that the body was made up of
four humors: blood, phlegm, black bile and yellow bile. They believed that sickness would be caused
by an imbalance of these humors. To heal the sick person it was necessary to find what humor was

Psychological Issues Often Intersect With Racism Issues Essay
Fifth, psychological issues often intersect with racism issues. People generally do not like those who
are different from them. It does not matter whether these differences consist in nationality, skin colors,
sexual orientation or something else. Of course, it can be explained based on psychology. For
example, the history teaches us that for centuries only those who belong to your community were the
only ones to help, while others used to be a threat. Furthermore, racism matter is in deep evolutionary
roots and people have a universal tendency to form coalitions and favor our own side (Culotta, 2012).
Moreover, Culotta (2012) confirmed that in experiments people easily form coalitions based on
meaningless traits such as preferring one painter over another. Examples can be different;
nevertheless, uniting into groups is essential for people. In this case, providing an explanation to
public that race as people dividing concept does not exist can contribute to uniting. Generally, race
concept can be reviewed only on two bases (Darder Torres, 2009). One basis is a biological fact that
all the people belong to one race (Fuentes, 2012). The other basis is that race exists as a historical and
social concept (Darder Torres, 2009). This information seems obvious, when we think about it.
Racism is a serious problem in diverse schools because the curriculum is based on dominant culture
perspectives. Thus, to decrease this hidden curriculum aspect we should concentrate on

Karen Armstrong The Will To Believe Essay
Experiences, religious or otherwise, possess and exude a subjective nature in and of itself it is with
this in consideration that one must realize the difficulty of analyzing a personal experience
cognitively, objectively, or literally. Particularly, religious experiences symbolically bring forth ideals
and values commonly seen in theistic beliefs and moral values, such as a strong urge to do good deeds
unto others, advocating peace and love, and feelings characteristic of humanity. To its fullest extent, a
religious experience occurs as a result of letting go of egotistical thoughts in order to truly appreciate
the universe, or a higher force not necessarily seen in theistic religions such as Christianity and Islam.
In abandoning the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On a similar note, by dissociating oneself from the literality, one finds in symbolic expressions, such
as those of poetry and biblical stories, important truths that help humanity be aware of instances
whose circumstances prevent the literality from being considered, such as in the case of moral
arguments and moral relationships, as suggested in William James essay, The Will to Believe. James
repudiates solutions without sensible proof in moral arguments. Arguably, religious experiences
themselves are of moral nature, as they ultimately dictate which values and morals one depicts in
everyday life. William James furthermore repudiates Pascal s attempt at rationalizing belief in a
theistic God he discourages thinking of religious experience theistically, claiming it is a
misinterpretation. To emphasize, religious experiences must be seen in a spiritual light, as religious
experiences are often too mundane and earthly to be used as rationalization for God s existence.
Henceforth in religious experiences, passional tendencies and personal proof factor into a belief like
theistic or nontheistic religion. When faced with a genuine option one that is live, forced, and
momentous one must allow passional tendencies to rule due to the subjective nature of the context.
There are multiple solutions to one

Body Mass Lab
Introduction The topic examined in Lab 4 is how Body Mass, Brain Size, and Life History variables,
are distinct amongst humans, apes, and other primates. These variables are related because they
demonstrate positive correlations in the scatterplots of Age of First Reproduction (years), Maximum
Lifespan (years), and Observed Brain Size (cc) of the species, in relation to an increasing Body Mass
(kg). By examining these variables, the Encephalization Quotient (EQ), Age at First Reproduction,
and Maximum Lifespan are then compared amongst humans and various apes. It is suggested that the
EQ, Age at First Reproduction, Maximum Lifespan of humans are higher than other apes. In this
project, we investigated the difference of the EQ, Age at First ... Show more content on

I believe that the estimates were inaccurate because they were both too high or too low, as indicated in
the data. Referencing the scatterplot of Observed Brain Size (cc) versus Body Mass (kg), the data
demonstrate that the relative brain size for the fossil hominins increases as the body mass of the
species increases. Likewise, referencing the scatterplot of Age at First Reproduction (yrs) versus Body
Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average age at first reproduction of species increases as the
body mass increases. Lastly, referencing the scatterplot of Maximum Lifespan (yrs) versus Body Mass
(kg), the data demonstrate that the average Maximum Lifespan of species increases as their Body
Mass increases. However, there is an outlier in all three of these graphs, presumably the data of
humans, in which their body mass yields higher values of age at first reproduction, maximum lifespan,
and observed brain size, suggesting a slow life history compared to other species. Moreover, by
observing the measures of EQ for the species, the relative brain size for the fossil hominins can aid us
in reconstructing their life histories by demonstrating how deviated the observed brain sizes are when
compared to the expected brain size. Therefore, by measuring the EQ with the observed brain size and
the expected brain size, it allows

The Gods In The Iliad
In Greek Mythology, gods and goddesses were assigned gifts related to specific aspects of nature. It
explained to people the origin of the universe and how the world operates. The ancient Greeks were
basing these scientific concepts solely based on their beliefs alone, which resulted in stories that
included the gods swooping in and interfering with human affairs. Many of those recorded stories,
including Homer s The Iliad, can be interpreted in two ways: either the actual gods have appeared
before a protagonist or that there was a natural occurrence that had no scientific evidence to clarify
what it was. Book 5 of The Iliad shows several occasions where this occurs, and each example
presented in this essay will argue if it shows that the gods are physically present in the story, or the
gods are used only as metaphors for a scientific phenomenon. On the first line of page 164, Homer
describes a scene where Athena gives Diomedes strength and daring to ... shine forth and tower over
the Argives and win himself great glory (Hom. Il. 5.2 3). The reality of the situation is that Diomede s

Greeks have created a belief system that describes science in a beautifully abstract way. Through
them, humans will begin to identify certain human occurrences and discover a more logical way to

Deadliest Shooting In American History
On October 1 2015, tragic news traumatized people from all over United States of America and even,

Chicago Manual Style Essay
Based on the CMS paper sample on page 84 of the text, I would say that a few of the differences
between Chicago Manual Style and MLA format are the use of a title page, the use of marginal
annotations, and the format of the citations. While MLA format is typically used for people writing in
the humanities fields, Chicago Manual Style is mainly written in the history field. In this sample, a
title page is used. In MLA format a title page is not required, though, it can sometimes be included if
requested. MLA format included in text citations, not marginal annotations. Lastly, the citation format
of the CMS format is unique, making some citations very long and some very short.
When comparing the CMS format in the paper to my knowledge of the APA format, I feel that the
differences are mostly found in the way that the citations are formatted. To start off, APA format, as
discussed in previous forums, is mainly used in the social science fields. In the CMS paper, the
specific page range from which the writer got their information from is given, while in the book s

writing towards a very specific audience. The CSE sample paper used very high level diction, which
implied that they expected their readers to already have an idea of what the paper s topic was about.
The CMS sample paper uses more lower level diction, which allows for a broader audience to be able

Definition of Alliterative Verse
Definition of Alliterative Verse
Old English literature encompasses writings in Anglo Saxon England during its conversion to
Christianity in the 7th century up until the Norman Conquest in 1066. The roots of Anglo Saxon
poetry were based on Germanic tradition that was mainly in the form of alliterative verse (Greenblatt).
When comparing to other forms of poetry, there are 6 key characteristics that define alliterative verse:
four beat lines, medial caesuras, enjambments, half line alliteration, kennings and litotes. In addition
to Beowulf and Caedmon s Hymn , examples will also be taken from my alliterative verse translation
of the nursery rhyme Little Jack Horner .

If there are two pairs of different alliterative sounds, each pair does not have to be in the same half
line. For example in line 5 from Beowulf, a wrecker of mead benches, rampaging among foes there is
repetition of both r and m sounds. In the first line of Caedmon s Hymn , Sing prayers, and sound
praises of (1), half line alliteration is seen in the s and p sounds. There are not pairs of half line
alliteration in Jack the Horner. However, in the last line there are three alliterative stress syllables that
are linked by the p sound, Gleefully pulling a purple plum .
A kenning is a metaphoric, two term or compound expression used in place of a name or noun (
kenning ). In Beowulf, the term whale road in line 10 is a kenning for the ocean. In Caedmon s Hymn
, Wonder Father also means God. In my poem, Santa s big day is meant to be a kenning for Christmas.
A litote is an understatement in which an affirmative is expressed by negating its opposite ( litote ). In
Beowulf one of many litotes is seen lines 43 44, they decked his body no less bountifully , where no
less just means more, so that his body was actually more bountifully decked (Heaney) In the first line
of my alliterative verse poem, I used a litote. Jack the Horner, not gigantic was he. Not gigantic is the
litote in that it describes Jack as little. Anglo Saxon alliterative verse is defined by its structuring of
stress

automobile rental services intended to substitute for private vehicle ownership, with vehicles located
in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour, and easy to check in and out. Carsharing ranges from small
informal cooperatives to sophisticated businesses with many vehicles. The current transportation
market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but fewer practical options for
using a vehicle occasionally. This contributes to several problems:
It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours per
week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile.
It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the
incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility costs,
accidents and environmental impacts.
Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of their
budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. This is a financial burden and contributes to
problems such as uninsured driving.
2. Car Sharing with fewer pollutants and use less fuel

Canyon Descriptive Writing
It was 1 hour before dawn. The thick gloomy grey blanket rolled through the towering canyon. The
canyon walls loomed overhead as the razor blade ridges were sticking out. At the far end of the dark
misty canyon is where the wall rose. The high reaching wall outstretched the length of the canyon
leaving an impenetrable metal wall. A slight breeze whirled through the bottom of the treacherous
canyon lifting the smell of the rotting dead. The screeching screams and shrieks of the savage demons
were heard from the far.
On top of the wall, the nervous army scattered around trying to get in position. Grabbing their
weapons and clutching them till their hands went white with fear. They could hear the screeching
screams of the demons hiding behind

A Teleological Ethics Approach To Cohabitation
A Teleological Ethics Approach to Cohabitation
According to teleological ethics, the outcome of the ethical decision is what matters. When it comes to
the ethical issue of cohabitation, most couples argue that their happiness is what counts. What matters
for them is not a public commitment to one another but whether or not they are in a happy and loving
relationship. Marriage is thus perceived as possessing little or no intrinsic worth but as being a means
to an end: the end, that is, of personal happiness or fulfillment . Yet it has been observed that married
people tend to be happier, healthier, wealthier, and they live longer... but these benefits of marriage
diminish considerably if the marital bond is replaced by non marital cohabitation. In the pursuit of
personal happiness and fulfillment, spouse and children are often looked upon not as people to be
loved and valued for their own sake but as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has left us open to doubts about our most fundamental understanding of about the parent child
bond, about marital permanence, about the link between marriage, sex and procreation. It has already
dragged innumerable children and adults into the very opposite of personal happiness . One of the
negative outcomes of cohabitation is that partners are more likely to be unfaithful than are married
spouses, and are more likely to be violent toward the other partner. And this lifestyle can become a
vicious cycle because as Horn has observed many adolescents are gaining morals from parents and
peers who are participating in or accepting cohabitation. Children born to cohabitants are considered
to be children born out of wedlock. The fact that one was born

The On Apache Hadoop s Open Source Offerings
With the rise of Hadoop in the workplace, along with it comes a rise of vendors offering various
platforms to store, access, and analyze vast amounts of data. These platforms vary in their
functionality, cost, and ease of use, among other factors. Three of the more popular vendors are
Amazon Web Services, Map R, and Cloudera. While each of these is based on Apache Hadoop s open
source offerings, it is the applications and reach that differentiates them. Although price will always be
a factor as well, this comparison seeks only to explore the vendors themselves, not the price of
admission. One of the best features of MapR is that they allow Hadoop to be accessed not only from
the cloud, but also from traditional network sources as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As of 2014, Map R has over 500 clients and growing, but going forward they, as well as many others,
face the challenge of their proprietary tools being replaced by open source substitutions. The
application suite of Map R is varied, but even includes specific software suites to ease the pain of
planning, creating, and maintaining clusters. This one in particular, StackIQ, automates the process
from the ground up. The company offers three distributions, M3, M5, and M7. M3 is offered as a free
version, while M5 and M7 are paid versions that allow access to more powerful tools for improving
performance and reliability. The M7 version also allows much greater access to to tinkering with their
real time, low latency streams. The business applications are varied, covering everything from
administration to analyst to developer. Amazon Web Services, much like Map R, and perhaps thanks
to them, also offers the same guarantee of no single point of failure and distributed computing
functions through popular applications such as Hive and Hbase. Also as part of its Web Services, you
can run EC2 instances from nearly any type of virtual machine available. The cluster management
tools are powerful and run the gamut of a graphical user interface console, the Amazon Web Services
command line interface, their EMI client, a software development kit available to code additional
applications, as well as a web service API. All of the tools provide

Mental Illness In The Victorian Era
In the Victorian era (during the 1800s), it was a common belief that people with psychological
illnesses were adulterated by the devil. Patients with these conditions were treated imperfectly and
lived in unsanitary conditions. For example, most patients lived in cages, and were given minimal
amounts of food, much like animals in captivity. As science progressed, a new perspective formed that
challenged the original beliefs people had about mental illnesses. Not only did society make progress
in the medicine involved in psychological illnesses, but they also made progress in the perception of
these patients. The Dual Diagnosis, Chris Pleasance, Humbleisd.net and VictorianEra.org argue that
Victorian society s initial neglect, restricted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conditions in these prisons were appalling; however, soon improvements were made due to rapid
revolution as stated in the article by Humbleisd.net . This article went into deep detail and history
regarding legislature that was passed for patient suffrage and rights of mentally ill individuals with
serious psychological conditions. A turning point came when, in 1841, the UK government passed a
new act that required them to inspect the living conditions of asylums ( Humbleisd.net ). They
expected it to be a therapeutic environment, not prison like with poor ventilation, as they found it to
be. This support from the government brought about rapid change in terms of asylum life but also
societal perception of these patients with mental illnesses. This source was substantiated by the article
written by the VictorianEra.org website that covers the many advancements in the fields of science
and medicine during the Victorian era. There was a pervading hopefulness among all academicians
and doctors and writers. For the very first time, religion was relegated to the second place as far as
diagnosis and treatments were concerned ( VictorianEra.org ). The people, who were earlier narrow
minded and refused to accept new theories,

Comparing The Iroquois Constitution And The Crahan Family
In both the Iroquois Constitution and the Crahan Family, abiding by the rules is crucial to maintaining
a happy family or confederacy. These rules are set in place to keep peace and happiness amongst
everyone. These rules are enforced by my parents, and followed by my two brothers and I. For
example, if I infringe on being respectful, I will get grounded. Similar to the Crahan family, the
Iroquois Constitution has important rules or ways of life as well. These morals of life consist of peace,
honesty, justice, faith and gratitude. The Iroquois Constitution s faith relates to Joseph Campbell, a
renowned mythologist, and his four functions of myth through their relationship with God. The
Iroquois Constitution includes the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca tribes. If others
desire to join the confederacy, they must exercise those morals and their hearts shall be filled with
peace and goodwill (Iroquois, 29). Similar to the Iroquois Constitution, the Crahan family has rules
you should follow; such as being respectful, owning up to our actions, and trying our best in all our
endeavors. First, as a part of the Crahan family we must be respectful to our family and others in order
to maintain a positive environment around us. A part of being respectful is owning up to our actions by
being honest. My parents preach honesty so that we are all on the same page and can have sincere
relationships with one another. Similar to the Crahan family, the Iroquois Constitution

How to Change a Tire
You re driving along with your mind on the all that homework that has to be done before 10pm for
you class, and suddenly your car pulls to one side and you hear that dreaded flapping sound of a flat
tire.
Nowadays, many drivers have roadside assistance services that will come fix your flats, but it s always
smart to know how to change a flat yourself.

Besides the crucial jack, wrench, and spare tire, you might also want to consider placing these tools in
your trunk to make a tire change much easier and more comfortable:
 Flashlight
 Gloves.
 Mat to kneel on.
 Rain Gear
 Fix a flat spray foam.
 Tire gauge.
 Tire blocks.

Find a safe spot to pull over. If you re on the freeway, taking the next exit is the safest bet, even if you
have to drive on a blown tire. Otherwise, pull as far onto the shoulder as possible. Don t park in the
middle of a curve where approaching cars can t see you. Also, choose a flat spot; jacking up your car
on a hill can be a disaster
2. Turn on your hazard lights. Get the jack, wrench, and spare tire from the trunk of the car and bring
them over to the tire that is flat.
3. Use the wrench to loosen the lug nuts. You may need to remove the hubcap. Don t remove the lug
nuts at this point; simply loosen them by turning the wrench to the left (counter clockwise).
4. Use the jack to lift the vehicle off the ground. Different car models may have different places to put
the jack; consult your owner s manual for specific locations. Once the jack is securely in the correct
spot, jack up the car until the tire is about 6 inches off the ground.
5. Remove the lug nuts and pull the tire off the car. Make sure to place the lug nuts together, and pull
the tire straight toward you to remove it from the wheel base.
6. Place the spare on the car. Line up the lug nut posts with the holes in the spare, and push the spare
all the way onto the wheel base until it can t go any

The Importance Of False Confessions
Almost any person would at first assume that if another person admitted to a crime, that reasonable
doubt is gone, and that person is guilty. They think, Why would anybody innocent admit to a crime
they did not commit? Statistically, according to the Innocence Project, a foundation that stands to
exonerate the wrongfully convicted, says 23% of people who have been exonerated were in prison for
false confessions. It has also been proven that even individuals free of psychological issues and of
average intelligence are susceptible to making a false confession under the right interrogation
technique. False confessions are an important ethical dilemma and any person serving on a jury or
being accused of a crime, should be aware of the possibility.
Our Rights
According to our constitution, the government may not coerce confessions. We as American citizens
are given rights that protect us from illegally obtained confessions; the first is the Miranda rights
which were established to protect a suspect from unknowingly incriminating themselves and the
second is the voluntariness requirement that prevents coerced confessions from reaching the jury.
These rules govern the admissibility of a confession into evidence, but do not determine false from
true confessions.
False Confessions
A false confession, by definition is admission to a criminal act, usually accompanied by a narrative of
the crime, that that confessor did not commit. According to research out of Cornell University,

The World Series is a big event that happens in MLB every year at the end of the season to see who is
the best team in the MLB. The World Series began in the year of 1903 and it has been going on until
present time. The New York Yankees were a great team throughout the 1998 season. They had a great
winning record the a MLB team could ever have; going with a record of 114 wins and 46 six loses in
the regular season. In 1998, the New York Yankees and the San Diego Padres had met at the World
Series. it was said that the Yanks were having a great spring training. During spring training, the

David Wells, better known as The Boomer took the hill for the home team against Kevin Brown and

Langston who was replaced by Brian Boehringer who was sadly replaced by Randy Myers. However,
no reliever from the Padres could match with the Yankees starter jeff Nelson and their reliever
Mariano Rivera, who had closed the game on the Padres 9 to 6.
As you can see that year was a great year for the New York Yankees. As they won the World Series in
the year of 1998 on my birth year. Even though they won it easily they had to go through a lot of

Gender Differences Between Work And Life
In Manage your work, manage your life, Groysberg and Abrahams use research and survey data to
show gender differences on how success is viewed. There were some similarities and obvious gender
differences in answers. On another note the article by Stewart Friedman, Work + home + community +
self, the main focus is on three key principles to focus on to be better at integration between work and
life. Each article s content can be a guide in career planning and to help with one s professional
development.
The article Manage your work, manage your life discusses the popular topic of work and life balance.
Interviews were conducted and researched with over 4,000 executives worldwide and 82 executives in
a leadership course over a five year course (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). They broke down and
compared men and women to determine how they defined what professional success means to them,
what personal success means and what their partners contribute (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). The
survey data showed some true gender differences on what each values more. A large number of
women define professional success by their individual achievement over everything else. Men on the
other hand define it by making a difference, next to working with a good team in a good environment
and respect from others (Groysberg and Abrahams, 2014). When asked what personal success meant
to men and women both chose rewarding relationships with family, people they love and community

  • 2. C.S.Lewis C.S. Lewis: Christian Apologist Included in the 10 most influential Christians of the 20th century alongside Karl Barth, Pope John XXIII, Martin Luther King Jr, and Billy Graham, the Christian History magazine named him the atheist scholar who became an Anglican, an apologist, and a patron saint of Christians everywhere. He was also dubbed as an apostle to the skeptics because he resolutely answered frequent objections individuals had when it came to accepting Christ as their Savior (christianodyssey.com). Born into a Protestant family in Ireland on November 29, 1898, C.S. Lewis was the son of A.J. Lewis, a solicitor, and Flora Augusta, a promising mathematician. He bore a lonely and unhappy childhood. Especially crushed by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everybody possesses an internal sense of moral obligation to realize the difference between right and wrong and choose to do what is right. Lewis ascertains that the existence of this common moral conscience, can only be the consequential result from the existence of a god who created all humans. (about.com). C.S. Lewis disputed for reason based Christianity as opposed to faith based Christianity. This is a questionable decision on Lewis part because conventional Christianity is indisputably faith based. Lewis principal readers were supposed to be skeptics and atheists rather than current believers. Skeptics doubt for lack of reason and evidence; therefore, only reason and evidence is more likely to draw their reconsideration. In his book, Mere Christianity, Lewis writes: I am not asking anyone to accept Christianity if his best reasoning tells him that the weight of the evidence is against it. (about.com). One of Lewis most often quoted statements is from Mere Christianity, where he uses reason and logic to introduce three possibilities to us (often known as the Lewis trilemma ). According to this trilemma, either Jesus really was God and intentionally lying, or was not God but reckoned himself to be (which would make him a lunatic). Mere Christianity goes on to say that the latter likelihood is not consistent with Jesus character and it is, therefore, most likely that he was being truthful A man ... • 4. Why Is Oscar Wilde A Literary Critic I was a man who stood in the symbolic relations to the art and culture of my age. The late Victorian period saw a revolution in the spheres of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew Arnold, Walter Pater and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of the mid and late Victorian period. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on literature, paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a brand new form of art. Their new theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for the period, which has come to be known as The English Renaissance of Art. This English Renaissance of Art was defined by Oscar Wilde as: a sort of new birth of the spirit of man, like the great Italian Renaissance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One critic complained about Wilde s Pen, Pencil and Poison and wrote, that the joke had gone far enough. Other reviewers wished that Wilde would get on with thought itself, and dropped his showy paradoxes in order to devote himself to writing something more solid and reasonable. Wilde s Intentions according to Lawrence Danson: shows the ability to gather up fragments, to call and reply to simultaneously themselves and others like the stringed lute on which all winds can play or the twice written scroll of his poem Hélas . Intentions shows the depth of Oscar Wilde s reading of literature and knowledge of previous critical writings. But as Jonathan Freedman s introduction to A collection of Critical Essays shows, Wilde s criticism was long left unstudied, as it was thought to be too flamboyant. His criticism was overshadowed by his personal life: Ass thete or aesthete, gay saint or poéte maudit. Those were the roles Wilde played in the classrooms and criticism for most of the twentieth century. Freedman goes on to say that: only a few serious accounts of his work could be found, particularly in the later days of new criticism; but it was largely for his flamboyant life and exhibit of decadence that Wilde was considered. The interest in Oscar Wilde s critical writings is quite recent and a few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Machiavelli And Plato Essay Niccolio Machiavelli (Born May 3rd, 1469 amp;#8211; 1527 Florence, Italy.) His writings have been the source of dispute amongst scholars due to the ambiguity of his analogy of the amp;#8216;Nature of Politics ; and the implication of morality. The Prince, has been criticised due to it amp;#8217;s seemingly amoral political suggestiveness, however after further scrutiny of other works such as The Discourses, one can argue that it was Machiavelli amp;#8217;s intention to infact imply a positive political morality. Therefore the question needs to be posed. Is Machiavelli a political amoralist? To successfully answer this it is essential to analyse his version of political structure to establish a possible bias. It would also be beneficial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is essential prior to judgement on whether Machiavelli is a political amoralist or not to take into account The Discourses and the essence of their meaning. The Prince alone I grant can be mistaken for a how to be a tyrant handbook with it amp;#8217;s absolute theories and some what lack of civility, where amp;#8220;the end justifies the means ;. But it amp;#8217;s intention is assuming the political leader is already of moral standing and possess such qualities of integrity and virtue to be expected of one in the position of leadership. amp;#8220;Everybody sees what you appear to be,few feel what you are,and those few will not dare to oppose themselves to the many, who have the majesty of the state to defend them;and in the actions of men,and especially of princes, from which there is no appeal, the end justifies the means ; amp;#8220;Thus it is well to seem merciful, faithful humane, sincere, religious and also to be so. ; Effectively what seems as ruling with an iron fist is best expressed in terms of need. The 16th Century political unrest Machiavelli is influenced by would best be unified by such absolute power due to it amp;#8217;s degradation and lack of structure. So therefore it would not be seen as immoral with respect to it amp;#8217;s time. • 6. German Schools Vs American Schools American schools and German schools have many differences. In the United States, students customize much of their education, especially at higher grade levels. They must study core curriculum, like math, English, and science, but also can choose what language they take, whether they take art classes or shop class, and so forth. They make decisions about what interests they wish to explore, and they can change that decision if they discover they do not care for it. German students have a much more prescribed curriculum and are not able to explore as many of their own interests in the classroom. Born into a culture of fear and containment, the Bond franchise flourished. The themes and roles demonstrated during the films helped support the American values of the time, such as extreme nationalism and conformist ideals, while helping to cement a feeling of Western superiority. In particular, the second Bond Film, From Russia With Love, demonstrated the rhetoric being utilized through film in America, including typical Cold War era xenophobia as well as gender normative roles and expectations highlighted at the time. • 9. Early Ottoman Medicine Early Ottoman Medicine ranged from the 16th century to the 18th century but unlike most places of the time, its medicinal knowledge was not isolated. The Ottomans had a very diverse body of knowledge and based their practices on ideas from all around the world. The knowledge came from the traditions of medieval Islam and central Asia. They also collected information from many sources such as Greek, Persian and Turkish books. When it came to immigrants, Ottomans always had open arms. By doing this, they were able to collect information from Iranian physicians and Jews who were running from persecution in countries such as Spain, Portugal and Italy. The Ottomans collected information from all around the world, helping them implement the most advanced and up to date practices. However, not all of their practices were advanced. In early Ottoman medicine there was a wide range of medical practices ranging from those deemed superstitious and supernatural to practices considered extremely advanced. Some Ottoman physicians practiced advanced methods but they did not come from advanced beliefs. The beliefs of Humoralism, one of the three types of medicine practiced at the time would today be laughed at. Humoralists believed that the body was made up of four humors: blood, phlegm, black bile and yellow bile. They believed that sickness would be caused by an imbalance of these humors. • 10. Psychological Issues Often Intersect With Racism Issues Essay Fifth, psychological issues often intersect with racism issues. People generally do not like those who are different from them. It does not matter whether these differences consist in nationality, skin colors, sexual orientation or something else. Of course, it can be explained based on psychology. For example, the history teaches us that for centuries only those who belong to your community were the only ones to help, while others used to be a threat. Furthermore, racism matter is in deep evolutionary roots and people have a universal tendency to form coalitions and favor our own side (Culotta, 2012). Moreover, Culotta (2012) confirmed that in experiments people easily form coalitions based on meaningless traits such as preferring one painter over another. Examples can be different; nevertheless, uniting into groups is essential for people. In this case, providing an explanation to public that race as people dividing concept does not exist can contribute to uniting. Generally, race concept can be reviewed only on two bases (Darder Torres, 2009). One basis is a biological fact that all the people belong to one race (Fuentes, 2012). The other basis is that race exists as a historical and social concept (Darder Torres, 2009). This information seems obvious, when we think about it. Racism is a serious problem in diverse schools because the curriculum is based on dominant culture perspectives. Thus, to decrease this hidden curriculum aspect we should concentrate on ... • 11. Karen Armstrong The Will To Believe Essay Experiences, religious or otherwise, possess and exude a subjective nature in and of itself it is with this in consideration that one must realize the difficulty of analyzing a personal experience cognitively, objectively, or literally. Particularly, religious experiences symbolically bring forth ideals and values commonly seen in theistic beliefs and moral values, such as a strong urge to do good deeds unto others, advocating peace and love, and feelings characteristic of humanity. To its fullest extent, a religious experience occurs as a result of letting go of egotistical thoughts in order to truly appreciate the universe, or a higher force not necessarily seen in theistic religions such as Christianity and Islam. In abandoning the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On a similar note, by dissociating oneself from the literality, one finds in symbolic expressions, such as those of poetry and biblical stories, important truths that help humanity be aware of instances whose circumstances prevent the literality from being considered, such as in the case of moral arguments and moral relationships, as suggested in William James essay, The Will to Believe. James repudiates solutions without sensible proof in moral arguments. Arguably, religious experiences themselves are of moral nature, as they ultimately dictate which values and morals one depicts in everyday life. William James furthermore repudiates Pascal s attempt at rationalizing belief in a theistic God he discourages thinking of religious experience theistically, claiming it is a misinterpretation. To emphasize, religious experiences must be seen in a spiritual light, as religious experiences are often too mundane and earthly to be used as rationalization for God s existence. Henceforth in religious experiences, passional tendencies and personal proof factor into a belief like theistic or nontheistic religion. When faced with a genuine option one that is live, forced, and momentous one must allow passional tendencies to rule due to the subjective nature of the context. • 12. Body Mass Lab Introduction The topic examined in Lab 4 is how Body Mass, Brain Size, and Life History variables, are distinct amongst humans, apes, and other primates. These variables are related because they demonstrate positive correlations in the scatterplots of Age of First Reproduction (years), Maximum Lifespan (years), and Observed Brain Size (cc) of the species, in relation to an increasing Body Mass (kg). By examining these variables, the Encephalization Quotient (EQ), Age at First Reproduction, and Maximum Lifespan are then compared amongst humans and various apes. It is suggested that the EQ, Age at First Reproduction, Maximum Lifespan of humans are higher than other apes. In this project, we investigated the difference of the EQ, Age at First ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that the estimates were inaccurate because they were both too high or too low, as indicated in the data. Referencing the scatterplot of Observed Brain Size (cc) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the relative brain size for the fossil hominins increases as the body mass of the species increases. Likewise, referencing the scatterplot of Age at First Reproduction (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average age at first reproduction of species increases as the body mass increases. Lastly, referencing the scatterplot of Maximum Lifespan (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average Maximum Lifespan of species increases as their Body Mass increases. However, there is an outlier in all three of these graphs, presumably the data of humans, in which their body mass yields higher values of age at first reproduction, maximum lifespan, and observed brain size, suggesting a slow life history compared to other species. Moreover, by observing the measures of EQ for the species, the relative brain size for the fossil hominins can aid us in reconstructing their life histories by demonstrating how deviated the observed brain sizes are when compared to the expected brain size. Therefore, by measuring the EQ with the observed brain size and the expected brain size, it allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Gods In The Iliad In Greek Mythology, gods and goddesses were assigned gifts related to specific aspects of nature. It explained to people the origin of the universe and how the world operates. The ancient Greeks were basing these scientific concepts solely based on their beliefs alone, which resulted in stories that included the gods swooping in and interfering with human affairs. Many of those recorded stories, including Homer s The Iliad, can be interpreted in two ways: either the actual gods have appeared before a protagonist or that there was a natural occurrence that had no scientific evidence to clarify what it was. Book 5 of The Iliad shows several occasions where this occurs, and each example presented in this essay will argue if it shows that the gods are physically present in the story, or the gods are used only as metaphors for a scientific phenomenon. On the first line of page 164, Homer describes a scene where Athena gives Diomedes strength and daring to ... shine forth and tower over the Argives and win himself great glory (Hom. Il. 5.2 3). • 15. Chicago Manual Style Essay Based on the CMS paper sample on page 84 of the text, I would say that a few of the differences between Chicago Manual Style and MLA format are the use of a title page, the use of marginal annotations, and the format of the citations. While MLA format is typically used for people writing in the humanities fields, Chicago Manual Style is mainly written in the history field. In this sample, a title page is used. In MLA format a title page is not required, though, it can sometimes be included if requested. MLA format included in text citations, not marginal annotations. Lastly, the citation format of the CMS format is unique, making some citations very long and some very short. When comparing the CMS format in the paper to my knowledge of the APA format, I feel that the differences are mostly found in the way that the citations are formatted. • 16. Definition of Alliterative Verse Definition of Alliterative Verse Old English literature encompasses writings in Anglo Saxon England during its conversion to Christianity in the 7th century up until the Norman Conquest in 1066. The roots of Anglo Saxon poetry were based on Germanic tradition that was mainly in the form of alliterative verse (Greenblatt). When comparing to other forms of poetry, there are 6 key characteristics that define alliterative verse: four beat lines, medial caesuras, enjambments, half line alliteration, kennings and litotes. In addition to Beowulf and Caedmon s Hymn , examples will also be taken from my alliterative verse translation of the nursery rhyme Little Jack Horner . If there are two pairs of different alliterative sounds, each pair does not have to be in the same half line. For example in line 5 from Beowulf, a wrecker of mead benches, rampaging among foes there is repetition of both r and m sounds. In the first line of Caedmon s Hymn , Sing prayers, and sound praises of (1), half line alliteration is seen in the s and p sounds. There are not pairs of half line alliteration in Jack the Horner. However, in the last line there are three alliterative stress syllables that are linked by the p sound, Gleefully pulling a purple plum . A kenning is a metaphoric, two term or compound expression used in place of a name or noun ( kenning ). In Beowulf, the term whale road in line 10 is a kenning for the ocean. [SAG_Report_ _Car_Sharing] Car Sharing is the term used throughout most of the world to refer to mobility services. It is a group of people that use one car in every single day to terminate their business daily. Car Sharing refers to automobile rental services intended to substitute for private vehicle ownership, with vehicles located in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour, and easy to check in and out. Carsharing ranges from small informal cooperatives to sophisticated businesses with many vehicles. The current transportation market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but fewer practical options for using a vehicle occasionally. This contributes to several problems: It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours per week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile. It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility costs, accidents and environmental impacts. Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of their budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. This is a financial burden and contributes to problems such as uninsured driving. 2. Car Sharing with fewer pollutants and use less fuel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. A Teleological Ethics Approach To Cohabitation A Teleological Ethics Approach to Cohabitation According to teleological ethics, the outcome of the ethical decision is what matters. When it comes to the ethical issue of cohabitation, most couples argue that their happiness is what counts. What matters for them is not a public commitment to one another but whether or not they are in a happy and loving relationship. Marriage is thus perceived as possessing little or no intrinsic worth but as being a means to an end: the end, that is, of personal happiness or fulfillment . Yet it has been observed that married people tend to be happier, healthier, wealthier, and they live longer... but these benefits of marriage diminish considerably if the marital bond is replaced by non marital cohabitation. They think, Why would anybody innocent admit to a crime they did not commit? Statistically, according to the Innocence Project, a foundation that stands to exonerate the wrongfully convicted, says 23% of people who have been exonerated were in prison for false confessions. It has also been proven that even individuals free of psychological issues and of average intelligence are susceptible to making a false confession under the right interrogation technique. False confessions are an important ethical dilemma and any person serving on a jury or being accused of a crime, should be aware of the possibility. Our Rights According to our constitution, the government may not coerce confessions. We as American citizens are given rights that protect us from illegally obtained confessions; the first is the Miranda rights which were established to protect a suspect from unknowingly incriminating themselves and the second is the voluntariness requirement that prevents coerced confessions from reaching the jury. These rules govern the admissibility of a confession into evidence, but do not determine false from true confessions.
