Changes That Shaped American Politics in the 70’s and 80’s
Changes that Shaped American Politics in the 70 s and 80 s
Loraine J Jackson

Abstract
For many individuals in the United States, the late 1970s were a troubled and disturbing time. The
Watergate scandal, the Vietnam War, ambiguity in the Middle East and the economic crisis in the
Nation had weakened the confidence of Americans in their government and in their fellow residents as
well. Many Americans supported a new conservatism in social, economic and political life during the
1980s, distinguished by policies of President Ronald Reagan. Politically, the United States
experienced numerous changes during the 1970 s. There were liberal Democratic administrations for
most of the 1960 s followed by a conservative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reagan and the Cold War The Cold War was a period when the Soviet Union and the United States
began negotiations which would eventually see the end of the Cold War. Still, in the early 80 s the
Cold War offered little open diplomacy between the Americans and the Soviets. As such, both were
content to increase their nuclear stockpiles and augment their armed forces budgets if necessary.
Therefore, anti nuclear movements and demonstrations were a typical feature of the early 1980 s (The
Cold War in the 1980 s, 2010). The international achievement of the Intermediate Range Nuclear
Forces Treaty, or (INF), was an agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union that each
would destroy an entire class of weapons as part of this nuclear disarmament treaty (Abbot, 2011).
Organized Labor Struggle There was a downside to the economic recovery which came in the form of
Republican offensive against labor unions. One such event was the firing of more than 10,000 air
traffic controllers for their violations of a no strike clause in hiring agreements (Abbot, 2011). There
was also a decline in union membership as well as blue collar positions. When union membership
waned, unions had difficulty managing with the changing economy. Corporations took the opportunity
to mandate wage rollbacks and compromises on working

Annotated Bibliography On Database Management System
Abstract:
There are many restrictions on the write and read operations in database management system. These
restrictions show the measurable effect on the each and every transaction in the database management
system and which are due to some specific operations. The transactions are not only read that data
from database all the time but sometime some transaction need to delete the data items from database
and create the data items into database. Such type of transactions show high impact on concurrency
control. So, we are analyzing how those transaction bias the concurrency control in database
management system.
Introduction:
The basic problem of concurrency control is sharing the data in database at a time by many numbers
of users. Due to many users accessing data at a time which causes to produce the undesirable output or
system failure even the transaction is correct. This problem may not occur due to read operations. This
problem is due to manipulating data in database such that performing creates, modify and write
operations on data items. The delete operation has capability of deleting the data items which is
similar to modify operation. And the insert operation have able to create a new data items and assign
the values if data items are not exist before staring the transaction which is similar to the create and
write operation in database.
The delete operation can be performed on when the data items exists on database. If we perform the
delete operation

The Context And Theory Of Corporate Governance
01 The context and theory of corporate governance 1.1 The meaning and purpose of corporate
governance Corporate governance broadly refers to the mechanisms, processes and relations by which
corporations are controlled and directed. Corporate governance has also been more narrowly defined
as a system of law and sound approaches by which corporations are directed and controlled focusing
on the internal and external corporate structures with the intention of monitoring the actions of
management and directors and thereby, mitigating agency risks which may stem from the misdeeds of
corporate officers. Governance structures and principles identify the distribution of rights and
responsibilities among different participants in the corporation ... Show more content on

1.3 The development of corporate governance and corporate governance theory Corporate governance
is a relatively new area and its development has been affected by theories from a number of
disciplines, including finance, economics, accounting, law, management, and organisational behavior.
Agency theory has probably affected the development of the corporate governance framework the
most. Agency theory identifies the agency relationship where one party, the principal, delegates work
to another party, the agent. In the context of a corporation, the owners are the principal and the
directors are the agent. In addition, there are other theories that have affected the development of
corporate governance, which include: transaction costs economics, stakeholder theory, and
stewardship theory. The development of corporate governance is a global occurrence and, as such, is a
complex area including legal, cultural, ownership, and other structural differences. Therefore, some
theories may be more appropriate and relevant to some countries than others. 1.4 Theories of
corporate governance There are a range of theories in corporate governance, such theories address the
cause and effect of variables.  Agency Identifies the agency relationship where one party, the
principal, delegates work to another party, the agent. In the context of a

Abstract
Another method used to reduce the spread of HIV among injecting drug users is through needle
exchange programs (NEPs). In these programs, users can either exchange their used needles for an
equal number of new, sterile needles or receive new ones without the requirement of an exchange.
These programs also offered a variety of other services in addition to syringe exchange, including
HIV/AIDS education and counseling, condom distribution, substance abuse, medical treatment
referrals, or other social service referrals, distribution of alcohol swabs, on site HIV testing and
counseling, screening for other infections, and some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Needle exchange programs are social services that allow injecting drug users to obtain intravenous
needles/syringes and associated equipment at little or no cost. It is based mainly on the viewpoint of
harm reduction that attempts to reduce the risk factors for diseases such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis.
Needle exchange programs are authorized by the 2015 National H.I.V./AIDS Strategy for the United
States and the 2012 President s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief Blueprint. The increasing amongst
drug users can be reduced with the help of needle programs and additional programs that provide
similar services.
Purpose for Needle Exchange Programs
Most people believe that if they approve of needle exchange programs to operate throughout their
community, they will see an enormous increase in the number of needles/syringes discharged on their
streets as well as an increased rate in drug use. It doesn t only benefit individual drug users by helping
to prevent the transmission of blood borne diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C, but it also benefits
the communities in which they operate by keeping used needles/syringes off the streets, giving
homeless or unstably housed drug users alternatives to street involvement, and serving as a gateway to

For instance, if someone s income grows, then his demand for goods will increase, shifting his
demand curve to the right. This will lead to a higher quantity being consumed at a higher price, ceteris
paribus. Conversely, there can be a negative effect that shifts the supply curve to the left where a lower
quantity is consumed at a lower price, ceteris paribus. This can occur when the price of substitutes
falls or consumers begin to lose their taste for the product. When there is a change of one of the
factors of supply like changes in the prices of production inputs like labour or capital; a change in
production technology and its associated productivity change; or the amount of competition in a
specific product market there is a corresponding change in the supply curve. For example, if worker
productivity improves due to some human capital or technology investment, then the costs of
production decrease. This exerts a positive effect on the supply curve shifting it right, where the new
market equilibrium is at a higher quantity and a lower price, holding everything else constant. There
can also be a negative shift that moves the supply curve to the left, with the resulting market clearing
price being higher and quantity lower, ceteris

How Consciousness Can Be Changed Essay
Consciousness is only possible through change; change is only possible through movement. Aldous
Huxley
In order to understand how consciousness can be changed, we first had to learn what consciousness is
and where it resides, if anywhere specific. For instance, some theories state consciousness resides
within the visual hierarchy system, while others pinpoint its location to a specific brain structure
known as the claustrum. Even still, researchers debate on whether consciousness, or the state of being
aware of oneself, even has a home at all. It is possible it is just the workings of many brain structures
or neurons working together, something more of a product than a mechanism on its own. Regardless if
there is agreement on how to define consciousness or self consciousness and where it derives from, all
can agree that various methods in life have the possibility to change one s conscious state.
Many activities in life, both accidental and intentional, lead to changes in conscious states. Activities
such as paranormal encounterances, drugs, sleep, imagination, meditation, religion, and big or
stressful life events all have the capability alter one s conscious. Throughout this section, we have
discovered many things that can alter one s state of consciousness or awareness. Acts such as drinking
alcohol or taking drugs will, depending on the substance, inhibit or increase your awareness of your
surroundings. Major events such as traumatic happenings or occurrences

first person to correctly explain the phases of the Moon is unknown. The time, Pythagoras wrote in

Greeks knew that motion causes the monthly changes in the Moon s appearance, they also knew the

Copyright In The Music Industry
Since the recording of music began, the music industry has been very dependent on record labels to
help artist reach mainstream success. The role of a record label is to assist an artist/musician in gaining
of the attention consumers. Along with that these labels also aid performers in marketing their work
through radio, magazines, newspapers, and television, but also involves the marketing of music
recordings and live performances. The majority of the time they would send artist s work to publishers
that would work on trademarks, production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, but most
importantly is the enforcement of copyright laws for written and sound recordings. With that being
said record labels are the ones who set the terms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For a jazz musician copyrights usually, applies to tunes and notes that are already written down and
not solos. Copyright laws consider most early jazz songs as derivative works. What that means is that
copyright protection and rights are based not on what the jazz musician has added, but what he has
used. Under the Copyright Act, the owner of the composition copyright has the exclusive right to
prepare derivative works based upon the copyrighted work. Categorizing jazz interpolations as
derivative works have practical consequences that do not favor the jazz musician. As an initial matter,
there is the issue of how jazz musicians must go about obtaining the rights even to record the song.
The Act creates a compulsory licensing scheme for copyrighted compositions, which allows players to
use any musical composition without having to negotiate with the copyright owner for permission, so
long as the musical work has been licensed previously to someone else for mechanical reproduction
and the musician pays a statutory royalty. Usually, all they needed was a mechanical license to
perform the works that were covered. The license would allow them to automatically get permission
from the artist from the artist and the publishers in return guaranteeing them royalties from the cover.
Musicians have more immediate access to previous artistic works than artists in other mediums
seeking to use prior works. The compulsory licensing scheme for musical derivative works thus
alleviates some of the transaction costs of bargaining. The problem is that obtaining a compulsory
license does not protect the original musical contributions added in the subsequent artist s rendition.
That is, compulsory licensees convey only the right to record and distribute the underlying work. A
separate copyright does not automatically attach another form of the material to that copyright. If a
musician wants to protect his pieces, he

What anatomical structure of the heart produces the lub and dub sounds? The anatomical structure that
makes the lub is the atrium. This is when the atria closes off at the tricuspid and mitral valves after
filling the ventricle. The dub sound is the opposite. This is when the ventricles close off at the aortic
and pulmonary valves. What are Korotkoff sounds? They are the sounds, heard with a stethoscope, as
the pressure from the blood pressure cuff starts to release. How are Korotkoff sounds different from
the lub dub sounds? The Korotkoff Sounds differ from the lub, dub sounds because the lub,dub sounds

Essay On Drug Prices
In recent years, rising drug prices in the United States raises have impacted patient access to
medications, including potentially life saving medications. It has become extremely difficult for
patient to receive medications. The blame is being shifted from insurers, drug manufactures, and the
government. Insurers are protesting that specialty drug costs are forcing them to jack up premiums.
State Medicaid directors say spiking pharmacy costs are coercing them to make unfortunate coverage
trade offs. From the consumer s perspective, there is a constant cycle of blame and no actual progress.
Fortunately, there are possible solutions the US healthcare can implement to help alleviate rising drug
costs; for example, an expedited Abbreviated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She said that Mount Sinai was continuing to use the drug, but each use now required a special review.
Unfortunately, the patients that needed this drug suffered from the malpractice of the drug company,
which consequently led to public outrage. Another example of company malpractice was of Mylan
raising the price of the EpiPen. Mylan Pharmaceuticals increased the price of the EpiPen from $100 in
2009 to $608 in 2016. The EpiPen is a life saving drug that many young children use in times of dire
need so the $500 price increase felt morally unethical to consumers. Consumers interpreted the
increase as a manufacturer profiteering off a person s life or death needs. Mylan then justified the
prince increase because they said they had competition from Sanofi but Sanofi dropped out of the
market not soon after and the price still increased from Mylan. In conclusion, drug manufacturers
definitely hold on to some blame of the recent prescription drug price spike. Arguably, the government
and insurance companies have the ability to work with companies to streamline certain processes and
decrease costs and prices. Medicare Part D is large enough and with enough money coming in that
they can bargain and negotiate drug prices with manufacturers. This solution would decrease the
average costs of most prescriptions for senior citizens and the disabled and would say the Medicare
system between $230 billion to $541 billion. However, some

Each year suicide is becoming more common in the United States among adolescents, according to the

adolescents to not be social. With the girls now without the social outlet of school, the girls became

Mozart Effect And Its Effect On Mental Development
The Idea of the Mozart effect came at a time when scientists were trying to merge the aspect of
psychology (the science of the mind), and neuroscience (the science of the brain). Scientists felt that
music plays a major role in the learning and thinking processes ( The Mozart Effect ). The Mozart
effect refers to the resultant enhanced mental performance that arises when one listens to Mozart s
music. It is suggested that listening to Mozart makes one smarter by improving their spatial
intelligence, or early childhood exposure to this music is beneficial concerning mental development.

Shaw presumed that the sequences formed the foundation for mental activities. Intrigued by the
outputs of the pattern, he decided to convert them to sounds rather than the usual printouts ( The
Mozart Effect ). To his surprise, the sequential patterns gave to some extent a familiar sound that was
characteristic of the Eastern music ( The Mozart Effect ). This discovery provided the basis for his
hypothesis that if brain activity had a somewhat music sound, it would be possible to work backward
and observe how the brain behaved upon listening to music ( The Mozart Effect ).
In his quest to assert this hypothesis, Shaw was joined by Frances Rauscher and Katherine Ky who
were researchers ( The Mozart Effect ). They dubbed their research, the Mozart Effect. In 1993, the
three published a summary of their findings ( The Mozart Effect ). They picked a random group of
University of California students and stratified them into three clusters. The first cluster listened to a
Mozart song, the second cluster listened to a relaxation song, and the third cluster was kept in a silent
environment ( The Mozart Effect ). All the clusters were later on subjected to the one spatial IQ test.

compared to their counterparts who listened to the relaxing music or remained in silence ( The Mozart

What Is Walzer s Theory Of Aggression
What is Walzer s Theory of Aggression ?
According to Michael Wazler, the theory of aggression implies to the ideologies of jus ad bellum as
detailed in the international law. He uses domestic correlation as the basis of the theory by explaining
how the rules that govern citizens apply to the international community. The rights that apply to the
citizens are similar to those of the states. He argues that Every violation of the territorial integrity or
political sovereignty of an independent state is called aggression He subdivides the theory into six
main points that act as the standards of comprehending war from a moral point of view.
The international community constitutes of independent nations that Wazler uses to demonstrate the
concept of a civilized society.
The states that form the international community have rights. The foundation of the rights is the rights
guaranteed to persons.
It is a crime for a state to use force against the other. Such actions comprise the state s rights.
The justification of violence as a means of defending oneself where individuals and states use it as a
method of enforcing laws
Hostility serves to validate war
It is possible to punish and ward off aggressors
Walzer seeks to point out that when states emphasize on their rights, they must also be (somehow) the
objects of punishment
How does Walzer modify that theory in the section of the book on jus ad bellum, and why does he feel
it needs modification?
He uses the

Analysis Of The Poem The King Of Babylon
Have you ever wondered if you have a plan over your life or what your future holds?
It is important that we need to understand what the people of God were taught in the Old Testament
and what they went through. This can be taken and used in todays society and culture as we can look
at the New Testament and see the similarities of what they faced. In this essay I plan to show how the
people of Jerusalem learnt that God had a plan and a promise for them and that plan and promise is
still as relevant to them as to what it is to you and I today. Them
The people of Jerusalem are currently in exile in the land of Babylon, they were taken by
Nebuchadnezzar the King of Babylon. The book is written around 627 585 BC and is described as
being a book of oracles. The passage in question is a narrative inside the book describing the time in
which the people of Jerusalem were taken from their promised land . The feelings that would be felt

promise land taken away from them would lead them to doubt and lack their trust in God, so when

There will always be someone else trying to sell your product for less money. Many monopolies are
enforced by government. One example would be operating a cab in New York City. You would need a
government issued medallion. The number of medallions are fixed which develops profits for initial
owners. The profits are not because of talents or resources, instead these profits come by the absence
of government enforcement of the medallion requirement. The government enforcement of
monopolies is an attempt to solve market failure. An example would be New York City enforcing the
medallion rules because they are under the assumption that if they don t restrict cabs, there would be a
lot more traffic jams in the city. When government enforcement of monopolies is appointed for the
well being of subset being granted a monopoly instead of the well being of society, that is when greed
steps in. But monopolies can also improve welfare. For instance, a drug company developing new
heart medication will pay lots of money in research and development for perfecting the drug without
selling anything to achieve revenue. It anticipates that it will sell under a patent over some period of
time and cover the development cost. If you take away the monopoly it takes away the motivation to
produce better drugs. So if markets are not competitive then greed isn t really a problem. It is only a

creates false ideal body image for consumers because they think they don t look good in the item and
consequently, also causes eating disorders and a lack of confidence by many shoppers. Double
standards are one of the very big issues in fashion we are moving towards a very innovative society
and it is about time we stop seeing fashion as such a feminine thing to be interested in because men
can also be self conscious about what they wear without having to be seen as a homosexual. We also
have to work towards in changing how people perceive others predetermined by the brands they can
afford. Shown in Workman s experiment, the assumptions that people who only wear store brand jeans
are seen less of a tidy person compared to a person in high end brand jeans is not reasonable. Some of

The Uk Supermarket Industry, And Analysing The Condition...
1.Introduction
This report is about the UK supermarket industry, and analysing the condition of the current market. It
will focus on its market structure, barriers to entry and contestable market to analyse if the
supermarket industry is an oligopoly market and if it is a contestable market or not.
2.Findings
2,1 Definition of oligopoly
To examine if a market is oligopoly market, it has to meet the following conditions:
Few firms in an industry
Firms under oligopoly market are price setters.
Long run abnormal profit can be made
Products can be homogeneous(e.g., sugar) or differentiated(e.g., mobile phone)
Barriers to entry Sunk cost, technology, economies of scale, limiting pricing and brand loyalty of
incumbents can all be barriers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, interdependence makes oligopoly market uncertain.
Due to uncertainty, firms may want to ensure a stable amount of profit, collusion may be an option for
them.
Cartel firms ,especially dominant players, gather together to set up a price according to the profit
maximisation in the whole market. In this case, firms act like a monopoly. The price of products of
each firms is fixed, thus reduction of price competition will be achieved. Instead of pricing strategy,
firms will compete each other over non price competition, for example, advertising. Like monopoly,
customers interest might be sacrificed because price is constructed according to the market s profit
maximisation point, whole industry can gain abnormal profit, which means customers pay more than
they actually need to. According to the figure 1, price of products under cartel is set up at P because of
profit maximisation E (MC=MR), and abnormal profit is PP2FG. However, cartel is illegal in many
countries, including UK.
Tacit collusion Firms will follow the price set up by established leader. Established leader can be
dominant company in this industry. This is called dominant firm price leadership. Price can also be set
up by company which may not be the dominant one, but other firms might follow its action because it
is reliable on price setting. This is called barometric price leadership.

Task Set Reconfiguration Effect
The Effect of Task Set Reconfiguration on Performance
Teema J. Credle
Brooklyn College Department of Psychology
Abstract
Task switching is the cognitive ability to switch between one task to the next. Research shows that
when a person switches from one task to another, there will be a higher incidence of errors coupled
with slower reaction time (switch cost) as opposed to trials where a person is doing the same task over
and over (repeat trial). The switch cost is attributed to task set reconfiguration because of the time it
takes to reconfigure task sets. In this task switch experiment we measured reaction times and error
rates on both repeat trials and switch trials (task switches). Twenty one participants from ... Show

In a study conducted by Meiran (1996), he found that when extending the cue target interval he was
able to cut down on switch cost. While extending the cue target interval doesn t eliminate switch cost
completely discovering and developing ways to decrease switch cost would beneficial to this all.
Whether you are a stay at home mom, student, or employee we can all find ways to be more efficient
and productive as we set out to complete our various tasks. A suggestion for future research would be
to create more real life experiments that people actually engage in frequently. Most of the current
research is conducted on a computer and while I believe the results are accurate from these studies, I
would like to see more studies where participants are engaging in more mundane activities. The results
would probably be consistent with the findings from prior studies. A factor to consider is that the
studies conducted in a lab on computers are quick, efficient, and concise. If we were to create a study
where people were engaging in the same tasks (data entry/answering phone calls) as the Executive
Assistant mentioned earlier, the method would be more complex and time consuming. However, I am
intrigued to discover more on this topic by exploring other possibilities in different

Why Is Deer Hunting Important In Australia
One of the biggest challenges for hunters worldwide is hunting for deer in Australia. As a result,
numerous professional associations, as well as hunting clubs, have sprung up in these locations where
deer hunting is increasing in popularity. There are many locations all over Australia where creative
sport hunters can pursue any of the 6 native species, providing that they act responsibly and
considerably to the wild animals in the hunting area. Knowledge is vital for successful deer hunting in
Australia along with expertise, ethics, and a strong passion for the natural environment.
The Acclimatisation Society of Victoria, from 1860 to 1900, was in charge of the introduction of at
least 26 varieties of deer all for the purpose of liberation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A number of them are descendants of the initial releases that have widened their range. On the other
hand, some have had a reduced distribution. Numerous areas have seen recent populations established
by deer that have escaped from modern deer farms or from secret releases. Irrespective of where they
originated, the population of deer in the 21st century in Australia is higher than ever and a growing
number of hunters are appreciating more every day.
In Australia, there are 6 varieties of deer that are considered permitted for hunting. The sambar deer is
one of the most commonplace deer and they are mostly found in parts of Victoria and New South
Wales and they are expanding their range to other parts of Australia. Compared to other kinds of deer,
the sambar deer are tougher to hunt due to their low density population along with their ability to
stand completely still for extended periods, which makes eluding hunters and predators much

United States Involvement In Vietnam
During the war people could see a possible communist victory. So, the US decided to get involved.
Before they were fulling engaged, some US troops were serving as advisers and were sending
equipment to South Vietnam. I believe the United States involvement wasn t justified for many
reasons.
In 1964, the United States congress allowed the US to enter into the war in Vietnam. By 1965 more
than 180,000 US troops were in fighting and planes began to bomb North Vietnam. We had the most
advanced army in the world. We had multiple strategies. We began fighting guerrilla warfare in the
unfamiliar terrain. Then later, the US turned to air power when the nations couldn t defend themselves
on the ground any longer. We began bombing farmlands, forests,

Voter Turnout In America
The nature of voter turnout is a broad concept in modern American politics and can be broken into
many topics: how voter turnout varies by state, by election, by demographics, and whether or not voter
turnout actually matters. Despite public opinion that voter participation is declining and that such
participation matters, voter turnout is about the same as it was in the 1960s and has not undergone
serious changes, and turnout only actually matters in competitive or local elections, rarely national
elections. The first determinant of variation in voter turnout is election differences between states;
specifically, voting accessibility, early voting, how competitive the race is, and gerrymandering of
districts in the state. Voting accessibility

Summary Of Tarmageddon By Andrew Nikiforuk
In Tarmageddon: Dirty oil is turning Canada into a corrupt petro state, Andrew Nikiforuk argues that
the Canadian oil industry has harmed Canada s environmental, political and economical images. First,
Canada starts to be regarded as having a defensive attitude towards environmental issues since the
Bitumen has been explored. Regardless of the Bitumen s high cost and emission, Canada still
welcomes billions of foreign investment in the Bitumen. Consequently, newly operated industries
begin to destroy the forest and generate toxic waste (even into water). While refining oil, lots of
energy and freshwater are squandered, outpouring a considerable amount of carbon emission. Hence,
Canadian oil industry has been pictured as a carbon making

Homeless Shelter Analysis
The reason we chose this topic was because we find it incredulous the amount of people who don t
have a home, according to The Orange County Register, an overnight count was made in January of
2015 and it showed that 4,400 people were homeless. Orange County s number is fairly small
compared to LA county, where the number of homeless is huge, with 82,000 homeless (Aguilar).
People become homeless for numerous reasons; Foreclosure, decrease in public assistance, high
healthcare costs, the lack of affordable housing, victims of domestic violence, mental illnesses, and
addiction disorders. As you can see drug addiction is not the only way people become homeless.
Everyone deserves a second chance and having this shelter would help many individuals get back on

Example Of Irreversible Inequality
Irreversible Inequality In this paper I will be explaining why social inequality is irreversible. A large
part of this is due to social structure (forces outside our control), agency (our choices), and
structuration (the way the previous two work together to shape our lives). This aspect of social
inequality will be dove into deeper in the next paragraph, discussing how it shapes our views of
societal norms. Next, I will discuss social inequality specifically in race and gender and how it will not
be able to be reversed. Using Karl Marx s Conflict Theory, I will point out the flaws in believing that
society can reverse social inequality. By using multiple examples of social inequality through history,
research, and present day, it will become clear that social inequality is irreversible. Structure, agency,
and structuration play a significant role in social inequality. Social structure are things that are outside
a person s control, but still affect the person. Agency is the actions of individuals and each person s
choices. Structuration is referring to how each person s life is shaped by uncontrollable influences,
structure, and by their own choices, agency. An example of social structure affecting agency would be
growing up in a poor neighborhood effecting what kind of education you receive. Poorer
neighborhoods typically have a lower quality school, resulting in a lower quality education. In every
society, there is a cultural norm, or an expected right behavior. When

Judgment in the House of Sand and Fog Essay
Judgment in the House of Sand and Fog People place judgment on one another every day based on
differences. Sometimes it is done subconsciously; sometimes it is done on purpose. In the book The
House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, two different cultures were represented; Kathy
represented the culture of the western civilization, whereas Behrani represented the culture of
Persians. People judge one another based on unimportant things, and get judged based on those same
things as well. Two cultures were used to amplify how different their cultures were from one another.

167). Lester judged Behrani s morals and his past based on the fact that Behrani was an ethnic man, a
Persian man, photographed with a man who has a bad history. He also threatened to have the INS
check out the Behrani family, and pull strings if necessary to get the Behranis out of the house, even
though the Behrani family had full U.S. citizenship at that point. These judgments passed out by both
cultures show that all cultures function using judgment. In the reading The Case for Contamination,
Appiah states that some people like and some people don t like that certain cultures have accepted
being able to get a discussion going about Ronaldo, Mike Tyson or Tupac, and being able to find a
bottle of Guinness or Coca Cola, (paragraph 9). Many people judge people who have accepted western
civilizations, considering their identities threatened. Different cultures possess different ideas of how
people should present themselves. Appearance is a large part of culture, because a complete stranger
can be judged based on their appearance. Behrani is the kind of man who always has to look put

manual labor, he would wear a work shirt , however when he left he would go to the bathroom at a

Short Story On Bully
Have a great day Zoe! says my bus driver, the nicest person that I know, as I get up from my seat on
the bus.
I ll try, I say gloomily. I know today will be a day just like all the other 45 days (yes I am counting)
that I have been at this school. Not great.
My family and I moved to California from New York a couple of months ago for my dad s job. My
whole family loves it here, except for me. I would love it here if it wasn t for Jess Mitchel. She is your
typical high school bully that wants to make every girl s life miserable. Being the new girl of the
school makes me her next victim. Jess usually does most of her tormenting at the courtyard in front of
our school, where everyone hangs out and all of the buses unload. As soon as I step off of the bus, the
taunting begins.
Oh my gosh! What is she wearing! Jess yells loudly, causing everyone s attention to be drawn to me.
Where does she get her clothes from? Goodwill? Jess s partner in crime stood beside Jess, laughing at
me. I try to walk as quickly as I can into the school, without making a fool of myself. But, I should
have known that wouldn t be possible with Jess Mitchel around.
I had almost made it into the school, when my worst nightmare happened. The partner in crime stuck
her shoe, a cheetah printed Louboutin high heel, out and tripped me. I was so humiliated that I had no
idea how to react. I glance up to see everyone staring at me.
Don t cry. Stay strong, I repeat in my head. I stand up and finish the few steps that it takes for me to
get into the school.
Thankfully, I do not have any classes with Jess, so I do not see her often during the day. But sadly, I do
have lunch with her. I was able to go through my morning classes without anyone mocking me, just
some slight stares from everyone.
Today s lunch is no different than any other day. I sit by myself at a table in the back corner. Jess sits
near the front of the lunchroom with the cheer team and of course, her partner in crime. Jess tells jokes
about me to her lunch table, the girls laughing at the jokes whether they are funny or not.
Then, Jess stands up, holding her lunch. She starts walking to a place that she would never have been
caught dead in before today. The back

Mao Zedong Of The Communist Party Of China
In the 1960 s the Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Zedong feared that China would
move too far in a revisionist direction with an emphasis on expertise rather than on ideological purity
as the Soviet model was doing. In response Mao gathered a group of radicals such as Defense Minister
Lin Biao to help him attack current party leadership to reassert the authority he had lost during the
recent economic crisis and the Great Leap Forward. In 1966, Mao launched the Great Proletarian
Cultural Revolution (1966 1976). The goal of the movement was to purify Chinese society by
upholdling only true Communist ideology. This was an attempt to revive the revolutionary spirit that
had led to victory in the civil war decades earlier and the formation of the People s Republic of China.
Mao claimed that bourgeois foundations had infiltrated the government and society with the intentions
of restoring capitalism. Mao believed that the current Communist leaders were guiding China in the
wrong direction and as a result he called the nation s youth to purge capitalist and traditional
fundamentals from Chinese society and re impose Maoist thought in their place. This lead to a violet
class struggle, as China s youth responded to Mao s call by forming Red Guard groups around the
country. The movement was soon amplified to a class struggle on all fronts as it spread into the
military, the urban workers and even the Communist Party leadership. President Liu Shaoqi and other

Importance Of Formative And Summative Assessment
Assessment According to (Georgiou Pavlou 2003) it includes all methods to collect information about
children s general performance, ability, attitude and knowledge. It s also used to diagnose students
weak areas (Nikolic and Cabaj 1999) 4.1 Formative assessment tools and rational There are 2 types of
assessment: Formative and summative. For (Baxter 1997) Formative assessments are not limited only
to mini tests during the course, but also to a continuous mutual feedback between students and their
teacher. They can be done in a form of setting homework tasks and monitoring effectively in class.
This way, they address students preferences/NA questionnaire (Apps 3.1, 3.2) i.e. I want the teacher to

this often happens in parent s meetings unless a student gets very low marks so parents become

The World Is Flat, By Thomas Friedman
In our world of a frequently mutable economy, there is no such thing as a sure thing. The rollercoaster
effect of falling and rising expenses and needs for jobs are continuously changing as our times become
more and more digital. Americans are finding that the life they cherish so dearly may be gone in a
matter of seconds. Most however, lack the concept of why everything seems to be slipping away.
People have become too comfortable riding of the coat tails of innovators that paved the way before
them and they are finding themselves lost in the shuffle. The rest of the world is catching up and in the
words of Thomas Friedman, in The World is Flat, [we] simply are not educating, or even interesting,
enough of our own young people in advanced math, science, and engineering (349). Therefore, we
must combat this issue at hand. America has grown idle due to the achievements of previous ideas and
although we have been amusing ourselves, bathing in our own narcissism, we are no longer at the top,
no longer a positive anomaly. We aren t producing skilled and knowledgeable workers to keep our
superiority, which is a direct result of an extremely problematic education system. Thus, in order to
repair the damages done and the severe amount of problems in the American education system, a
better functioning national system of higher education must be established. I suggest that
vocational/technological schools should be combined to join in with the free community college
proposal. This

The Song American Pie Is A Representation Of Loss During...
The song American Pie is a representation of loss during the transition into the 1970s. It was written in
1971 by Don McLean and filled with his views on the state of society, political changes, and cultural
changes. The cultural changes and the loss of everything society knew produced the lost generation
that McLean was apart of. He demonstrated his disapproval of the direction of the country by using
music, faith, and war as examples of the changes and loss his generation faced.
Music heavily influences and creates a voice for the people of the time period it is written in and also
reflects the tone of the time period. Mclean s generation was impacted greatly by classic rock and roll
artists, such as Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Music direction and message portrayed the prosperous
nature of the 1950s and what life was like before the 1970s. The change in music direction rooted
from a tragedy that Mclean recognized with the verse, But February made me shiver . In February 3,
1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson died in a plane crash. Theses musicians were
Mclean s heroes and rock and roll legends. McLean considered this to be the day the music died .
After their deaths, music drastically changed. New musicians and styles of music came into play.
Buddy Holly and the other musicians before the Vietnam war sang uplifting songs or songs with
religious references. The verse A long long time ago, is referring to the time period of rock and roll

Why Girls Get Periods
Period Questions
Why do girls get periods?
Every 28 days (or month), your uterus lining thickens in preparation to receive a fertilized egg if you
were to become pregnant. If this egg isn t fertilized, your vagina will release this uterine lining in the
form of blood. This is why you get your period!
What exactly is the blood that we push out when we have our periods?
The blood you push out every month (or so) when you get your period is the lining your uterus
prepares to receive a fertilized egg. When you do not get pregnant, this lining is released through your
vagina.

opt for products designed a heavier flow. However, if your periods are very heavy in flow and are
accompanied by lots of pain and other symptoms you should visit your doctor to find a solution to
your heavy periods.
My period came earlier than expected, what does that mean?
Your menstrual cycle will vary throughout your life. If your period came earlier than expected it you
shouldn t worry. First of all, it means you re not pregnant (Phew!!!). You will see as you grow older
that your period cycle will stabilize. If you d like to have a more predictable menstrual cycle though,
you should talk to your doctor and consider getting on the pill.

Business Case 06-12 Outsourcing Services, Inc.
Case 06 12 Outsourcing Services, Inc. Outsourcing Services, Inc. (OSI), a SEC registrant, provides a
variety of EDP and payroll processing services to third parties. OSI recently has introduced a new
service line to provide product help line support services through customer service representatives
(CSRs) who are employees of OSI. On January 1, 2004, OSI entered into a service contract with
Company X. Pursuant to the terms of the contract, OSI s CSRs will provide technical support for
Company X s products. The contract has an initial term of one year and is not cancelable by the
customer. After the initial year, the contract is renewable at negotiated market rates. Prior to starting
this new service line, OSI hired independent consultants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cost Deferral Policy In the past, OSI had not entered into transactions in which significant up front
costs were incurred in connection with the set up and origination of its contracts, and, accordingly,
OSI has not adopted a policy for accounting for these types of costs. OSI has indicated it plans to
adopt a policy of deferring all up front costs related to this contract including system set up costs, sales
commissions, and other contract acquisition costs. Management of OSI believes they will recover
these costs and generate substantial profits through their call revenue (initial term and renewal
periods), and the up front costs incurred are a necessary investment in the contract. Based on customer
lifting studies performed by an outside consultant and other industry statistics, OSI expects its contract
with Company X to extend beyond the initial contract term and estimates a customer life of
approximately 4.5 years. The total fees (set up fee and call revenue) over the customer life are
expected to exceed the direct costs of the contract, including amortization of the deferred costs before
any indirect or Selling, General, and Administrative costs.

Becoming A Store Manager For Big O Tire Essay
In 2007, I was a mortgage originator and after the fall of the mortgage market I decided to make my
way back to the automotive world by becoming a store manager for Big O Tire. I was a store manager
for Evans Tire in the past and I knew that I could generate enough income to support my family
managing a service center again. I have seen a lot of automobiles come through the service bay doors
throughout the years with long overdue vehicle maintenance. One group of vehicle owners seems to
be the worst defenders of them all. The way BMW owners neglect their prized possession is an
incredibly deplorable act. I remembered having to explain to these narcissistic vehicle owners why
they needed to pay extra money for synthetic oil and how skipping it just this once would not be okay.
One gentlemen in particular used to put his dirty engine air filter in front of his beaming headlights
and would love to look to see if the light would shine through. It passed the test put it back! He used to
say every time with such passion. Of course, he thought he was saving money on frivolous air filters,
not thinking of the hidden cost of his fuel mileage. The majority of Americans have a vast problem
with the over consumption of fuel while over paying at the pump. It s not just buying the correct grade
gasoline at the pump that needs to be addressed, the desire to increase the miles per gallon on the
vehicles we drive is also important. The average American does not seem to make

Alcatraz Essay
As the cold waters rush into the San Francisco Bay, they crash up against an island standing in the
strait. This rock is hidden by the fog and isolated by the chilling waters of the Pacific that flow in and
out every day. It has a gloom that hangs about its rocky face most know it as Alcatraz but the men who
experienced this island, referred to her as The Rock . To the men confined there, it is not only the
ultimate in isolation but the most ironic because they are there in the midst of the activity of a busy
harbor with small craft darting to and from San Francisco, Oakland, Alameda, Berkeley, Richmond,
and Sausalito; within sound of the honking horns of a ceaseless procession of automobiles crossing the
bridges; within sight of ocean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the passing of the Volstead Act in 1920, production and distribution of alcohol became an
extremely profitable business. With this also came a noticeable rise in organized crime in many of the
big cities. Even worse, the crimes committed by members of these gangs became more violent. Soon
prisons were overcrowded and were merely hold facilities.
No correction was in mind for these prisoners. Convicts filled the empty hours with talk, mostly about
the crimes they had committed and ways they could beat the law. Drug addicts and other petty
offenders were mixed with killers and robbers. Young felons, who had taken to crime for no more than
sheer pleasure or pride on a dare, came out of prison with no job skills but with plenty of advice from
more experienced criminals. In 1933, J. Edgar Hoover was made the director of the recently
established FBI agency.
Hoover had plans to crack down on these criminals. The problem Hoover faced was that, no sooner
were the criminals locked up than the crime organizations would bust them out. With this major
problem in mind, the Justice Department began looking into a maximum security prison that was not
easy to access and therefore inescapable. When they came across Alcatraz, it was almost too good to
be true. By April of 1934, work began on Alcatraz to make the current cell house more secure by
replacing soft iron square bars on the cells with new,

Examples Of Swaddling An Infant
How to Swaddle an Infant
Come on! Giving birth to a baby is the most awesome experience any parent in the world can go
through. To us parents, caring for the little one is everything. But, how do you go about swaddling
your infant safely using a comfortable approach? Could you be doing it right? Let s quickly take a
candid in depth look at the essential details plus more.
Introduction
You probably couldn t be doing a great job yet if you don t know how to swaddle an infant. Having to
shift to the new world from the ever warm and comfy womb needs to be a carefully handled process
for the baby to enjoy the best upbringing.
Swaddling undoubtedly helps babies sleep longer soundly with minimal anxiety. It aids significantly

All you need is focus on your mind while learning how to use swaddle blankets, especially when
doing the wrapping.
Remember to keep it lovely using your soft hands. With time you and the young one will be on the
same page when it comes to sleep time.
Step 1
Get at this stage a warm and clean blanket that won t slough the little one nor be too tight. Neither
should it be too hot but simply comfortable for an infant.
Place your blanket on a flat and clean soft surface and fold it to take the shape of the triangle from one
of its corners.
Proceed to place the baby at the center slowly while keeping the shoulders just below the fold. The
neck should be along the top edge. Remember; avoid leaving any part of the blanket touching the baby
s cheek. The baby might mistake this for a breast at some point arousing a rooting reflex. You don t
want the little one start feeling uncomfortable and start crying as to why he or she isn t being fed
anyway.
Step 2
By confirming the baby is comfortable, take one of the corners of the blanket across the baby s upper
part of the body and tuck it under the back slowly and

Analysis Of Gabriell Needham s The Killing Fields
Gabriell Needham, Making of the Modern World I found the film, The Killing Fields , very moving.
There were countless scenes where my heart melted and I felt as if I could feel the pain of the innocent
Cambodians in a minute sense. There is absolutely no way I could ever imagine what it was like to
live though such a brutal and emotional part of history. The actors who portrayed individuals in the
film seemed to be very connected and the relationship between Pran and Sydney was brilliantly
displayed. Throughout the movie, I was genuinely intrigued. I think that the friendship between Pran
and Sydney captured my attention well and it made the rest of the movie very emotional and
meaningful. Even though Pran could have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, I feel as if Pran finished the movie as a hero. After Pran escaped from the re education camp,
he came across a family consisting of Khmer Rouge official and his son. Even though the official
knew Pran was against the revolution, which would normally be very deadly knowledge, he let him
stay because his son had grown attached to him. The official thought that it was time for his son to
leave because the war was starting to get worse so he left him under the care of Pran. The boy s father
was eventually killed and Pran took the young boy and carried him through a mine filled jungle along
with a few other soldiers in hopes of giving him a new life. I was surprised by the fact that the Khmer
Rouge official allowed Pran to be around his son in the first place. I found the leader to be very easy
going considering that he did not have Pran killed when he learned that he could speak French. I feel
as if the official knew that the war was turning into something that had gotten way out of control and
before he could stop the madness, it was too late.
Cambodia was torn to shreds when Pol Pot s regime took over. As seen in the movie, so many
innocent people were killed by ruthless soldiers and U.S. bombs. Cambodians were forced to leave
their homes with as little as possible. They were assured that they would be taken care of and that they
did not need to bring much of anything since Angkor would provide for them. Thousands of people
were forced

Changes That Shaped American Politics in the 70’s and 80’s Changes that Shaped American Politics in the 70 s and 80 s Loraine J Jackson Everest University Abstract For many individuals in the United States, the late 1970s were a troubled and disturbing time. The Watergate scandal, the Vietnam War, ambiguity in the Middle East and the economic crisis in the Nation had weakened the confidence of Americans in their government and in their fellow residents as well. Many Americans supported a new conservatism in social, economic and political life during the 1980s, distinguished by policies of President Ronald Reagan. Politically, the United States experienced numerous changes during the 1970 s. There were liberal Democratic administrations for most of the 1960 s followed by a conservative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reagan and the Cold War The Cold War was a period when the Soviet Union and the United States began negotiations which would eventually see the end of the Cold War. Still, in the early 80 s the Cold War offered little open diplomacy between the Americans and the Soviets. As such, both were content to increase their nuclear stockpiles and augment their armed forces budgets if necessary. Therefore, anti nuclear movements and demonstrations were a typical feature of the early 1980 s (The Cold War in the 1980 s, 2010). The international achievement of the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, or (INF), was an agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union that each would destroy an entire class of weapons as part of this nuclear disarmament treaty (Abbot, 2011). Organized Labor Struggle There was a downside to the economic recovery which came in the form of Republican offensive against labor unions. One such event was the firing of more than 10,000 air traffic controllers for their violations of a no strike clause in hiring agreements (Abbot, 2011). There was also a decline in union membership as well as blue collar positions. When union membership waned, unions had difficulty managing with the changing economy. • 3. Annotated Bibliography On Database Management System Abstract: There are many restrictions on the write and read operations in database management system. These restrictions show the measurable effect on the each and every transaction in the database management system and which are due to some specific operations. The transactions are not only read that data from database all the time but sometime some transaction need to delete the data items from database and create the data items into database. Such type of transactions show high impact on concurrency control. So, we are analyzing how those transaction bias the concurrency control in database management system. Introduction: The basic problem of concurrency control is sharing the data in database at a time by many numbers of users. Due to many users accessing data at a time which causes to produce the undesirable output or system failure even the transaction is correct. This problem may not occur due to read operations. This problem is due to manipulating data in database such that performing creates, modify and write operations on data items. The delete operation has capability of deleting the data items which is similar to modify operation. And the insert operation have able to create a new data items and assign the values if data items are not exist before staring the transaction which is similar to the create and write operation in database. The delete operation can be performed on when the data items exists on database. If we perform the delete operation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. How Consciousness Can Be Changed Essay Consciousness is only possible through change; change is only possible through movement. Aldous Huxley In order to understand how consciousness can be changed, we first had to learn what consciousness is and where it resides, if anywhere specific. For instance, some theories state consciousness resides within the visual hierarchy system, while others pinpoint its location to a specific brain structure known as the claustrum. Even still, researchers debate on whether consciousness, or the state of being aware of oneself, even has a home at all. It is possible it is just the workings of many brain structures or neurons working together, something more of a product than a mechanism on its own. Regardless if there is agreement on how to define consciousness or self consciousness and where it derives from, all can agree that various methods in life have the possibility to change one s conscious state. Many activities in life, both accidental and intentional, lead to changes in conscious states. Activities such as paranormal encounterances, drugs, sleep, imagination, meditation, religion, and big or stressful life events all have the capability alter one s conscious. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a jazz musician copyrights usually, applies to tunes and notes that are already written down and not solos. Copyright laws consider most early jazz songs as derivative works. What that means is that copyright protection and rights are based not on what the jazz musician has added, but what he has used. Under the Copyright Act, the owner of the composition copyright has the exclusive right to prepare derivative works based upon the copyrighted work. Categorizing jazz interpolations as derivative works have practical consequences that do not favor the jazz musician. As an initial matter, there is the issue of how jazz musicians must go about obtaining the rights even to record the song. The Act creates a compulsory licensing scheme for copyrighted compositions, which allows players to use any musical composition without having to negotiate with the copyright owner for permission, so long as the musical work has been licensed previously to someone else for mechanical reproduction and the musician pays a statutory royalty. Usually, all they needed was a mechanical license to perform the works that were covered. The license would allow them to automatically get permission from the artist from the artist and the publishers in return guaranteeing them royalties from the cover. Musicians have more immediate access to previous artistic works than artists in other mediums seeking to use prior works. The compulsory licensing scheme for musical derivative works thus alleviates some of the transaction costs of bargaining. The problem is that obtaining a compulsory license does not protect the original musical contributions added in the subsequent artist s rendition. That is, compulsory licensees convey only the right to record and distribute the underlying work. A separate copyright does not automatically attach another form of the material to that copyright. People become homeless for numerous reasons; Foreclosure, decrease in public assistance, high healthcare costs, the lack of affordable housing, victims of domestic violence, mental illnesses, and addiction disorders. • 30. Example Of Irreversible Inequality Irreversible Inequality In this paper I will be explaining why social inequality is irreversible. A large part of this is due to social structure (forces outside our control), agency (our choices), and structuration (the way the previous two work together to shape our lives). This aspect of social inequality will be dove into deeper in the next paragraph, discussing how it shapes our views of societal norms. Next, I will discuss social inequality specifically in race and gender and how it will not be able to be reversed. Using Karl Marx s Conflict Theory, I will point out the flaws in believing that society can reverse social inequality. By using multiple examples of social inequality through history, research, and present day, it will become clear that social inequality is irreversible. Structure, agency, and structuration play a significant role in social inequality. Social structure are things that are outside a person s control, but still affect the person. Agency is the actions of individuals and each person s choices. Structuration is referring to how each person s life is shaped by uncontrollable influences, structure, and by their own choices, agency. An example of social structure affecting agency would be growing up in a poor neighborhood effecting what kind of education you receive. Poorer neighborhoods typically have a lower quality school, resulting in a lower quality education. In every society, there is a cultural norm, or an expected right behavior. When ... Sometimes it is done subconsciously; sometimes it is done on purpose. People judge one another based on unimportant things, and get judged based on those same things as well. Two cultures were used to amplify how different their cultures were from one another. Lester judged Behrani s morals and his past based on the fact that Behrani was an ethnic man, a Persian man, photographed with a man who has a bad history. He also threatened to have the INS check out the Behrani family, and pull strings if necessary to get the Behranis out of the house, even though the Behrani family had full U.S. citizenship at that point. These judgments passed out by both cultures show that all cultures function using judgment. In the reading The Case for Contamination, Appiah states that some people like and some people don t like that certain cultures have accepted being able to get a discussion going about Ronaldo, Mike Tyson or Tupac, and being able to find a bottle of Guinness or Coca Cola, (paragraph 9). Many people judge people who have accepted western civilizations, considering their identities threatened. Different cultures possess different ideas of how people should present themselves. Appearance is a large part of culture, because a complete stranger can be judged based on their appearance. Behrani is the kind of man who always has to look put together. I know today will be a day just like all the other 45 days (yes I am counting) that I have been at this school. Not great. My family and I moved to California from New York a couple of months ago for my dad s job. My whole family loves it here, except for me. I would love it here if it wasn t for Jess Mitchel. She is your typical high school bully that wants to make every girl s life miserable. Being the new girl of the school makes me her next victim. Jess usually does most of her tormenting at the courtyard in front of our school, where everyone hangs out and all of the buses unload. As soon as I step off of the bus, the taunting begins. Oh my gosh! What is she wearing! Jess yells loudly, causing everyone s attention to be drawn to me. Where does she get her clothes from? Goodwill? Jess s partner in crime stood beside Jess, laughing at me. I try to walk as quickly as I can into the school, without making a fool of myself. But, I should have known that wouldn t be possible with Jess Mitchel around. I had almost made it into the school, when my worst nightmare happened. The partner in crime stuck her shoe, a cheetah printed Louboutin high heel, out and tripped me. I was so humiliated that I had no idea how to react. I glance up to see everyone staring at me. Don t cry. Stay strong, I repeat in my head. I stand up and finish the few steps that it takes for me to get into the school. Thankfully, I do not have any classes with Jess, so I do not see her often during the day. But sadly, I do have lunch with her. I was able to go through my morning classes without anyone mocking me, just some slight stares from everyone. Today s lunch is no different than any other day. I sit by myself at a table in the back corner. Jess sits near the front of the lunchroom with the cheer team and of course, her partner in crime. Mao Zedong Of The Communist Party Of China In the 1960 s the Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Zedong feared that China would move too far in a revisionist direction with an emphasis on expertise rather than on ideological purity as the Soviet model was doing. In response Mao gathered a group of radicals such as Defense Minister Lin Biao to help him attack current party leadership to reassert the authority he had lost during the recent economic crisis and the Great Leap Forward. In 1966, Mao launched the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966 1976). The goal of the movement was to purify Chinese society by upholdling only true Communist ideology. This was an attempt to revive the revolutionary spirit that had led to victory in the civil war decades earlier and the formation of the People s Republic of China. Mao claimed that bourgeois foundations had infiltrated the government and society with the intentions of restoring capitalism. Mao believed that the current Communist leaders were guiding China in the wrong direction and as a result he called the nation s youth to purge capitalist and traditional fundamentals from Chinese society and re impose Maoist thought in their place. This lead to a violet class struggle, as China s youth responded to Mao s call by forming Red Guard groups around the country. For (Baxter 1997) Formative assessments are not limited only to mini tests during the course, but also to a continuous mutual feedback between students and their teacher. From my experience, this often happens in parent s meetings unless a student gets very low marks so parents become concerned. The rollercoaster effect of falling and rising expenses and needs for jobs are continuously changing as our times become more and more digital. Americans are finding that the life they cherish so dearly may be gone in a matter of seconds. Most however, lack the concept of why everything seems to be slipping away. People have become too comfortable riding of the coat tails of innovators that paved the way before them and they are finding themselves lost in the shuffle. The rest of the world is catching up and in the words of Thomas Friedman, in The World is Flat, [we] simply are not educating, or even interesting, enough of our own young people in advanced math, science, and engineering (349). Therefore, we must combat this issue at hand. America has grown idle due to the achievements of previous ideas and although we have been amusing ourselves, bathing in our own narcissism, we are no longer at the top, no longer a positive anomaly. We aren t producing skilled and knowledgeable workers to keep our superiority, which is a direct result of an extremely problematic education system. Thus, in order to repair the damages done and the severe amount of problems in the American education system, a better functioning national system of higher education must be established. The cultural changes and the loss of everything society knew produced the lost generation that McLean was apart of. He demonstrated his disapproval of the direction of the country by using music, faith, and war as examples of the changes and loss his generation faced. Music heavily influences and creates a voice for the people of the time period it is written in and also reflects the tone of the time period.
