Sport Injury Essay
Most athletes want to decrease their risk of acquiring an injury whilst participating in sport because
injuries decrease their participation time, fitness levels they downgrade the quality of competitive
performance. Many extrinsic intrinsic factors play a major role in the development of sport injuries to
have an effective injury prevention programme, these have to be accounted for. Most acute sport
injuries are hugely influenced by extrinsic factors, as compared to the overuse injuries which are
influenced by an interaction between extrinsic intrinsic factors.
Primary preventative measures are the most ideal tools to monitor, rehabilitate prevent injuries as the
place specific focus on the athletes as an individual. For these measures ... Show more content on

The use of such protective equipment does not guarantee complete protection from injuries, however
they aid in the reduction of severity of the injury due to their shock absorption characteristic. Bir et al.
(1995) used a Hybrid III female dummy (similar in size to a ten year old child) to evaluate the
effectiveness of shin guards during impact forces delivered to the shin region.

Gifted Hands Book Report
Gifted Hands: a Benson Carson Story By: Julia Murtha
While reading this enchanting book, I have realized that I should not let the little things in my life be
taken for granted. Ben Carson had a rough child hood, but he was a good kid. As a child he wasn t the
brightest or the richest, but he was a well mannered child. He was teased a lot during his elementary
school years, just because he was not the brightest student in his class. He was tired of the constant
bullying of his fellow students so, he began to read books. He just kept reading and reading, and the
things he read just stuck to him. He became the brightest student in middle school, from the dumbest
in elementary. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gifted Hands: A Ben Carson Story Parte 3 By: Julia Murtha
As a child, I wasn t the smartest kid in my class. I had trouble in most of my subjects. The other kids
would always tease me and call me stupid; and I was tired of it. In middle school I bean studying and
reading much more. I started to figure out that everything I would read, the knowledge from it would
stay in my brain. On my free time if I wasn t reading I would be praying. I starting reading every day
and from that, I became the top student of my class. My mother was very proud of me knowing I was
once at the bottom of my class and now; I have reached the top. I was able to get into a good high
school. Of course at my new school, I was an outcast; not only because I am black but also the way I
dressed and for my intelligence. Every day in my first year in high school I had begged my mother for
new clothes that would help me fit in, and her response was always a no. Around the same time, I
started to realize I had anger problems. One day while I was still worried about fitting in, my mom
bought me a new pair of pants. I looked at her if she was nuts, I wouldn t wear them for nothing. They
were not what I had asked for. I

Importance Of Iterative Process Groups On Healthcare...
The Importance of Iterative Process Groups

The Importance of Iterative Process Groups
Project management involves five groups of processes: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring
and Controlling, and Closing. The process groups are important to a project s flow throughout its
lifecycle. The processes within the groups include the tools and/or techniques involved in applying the
skills and capabilities described in the PMBOK s Knowledge Area (Project Management Institute,
2013). This paper will discuss the importance of the iterative process of these groups by
demonstrating the need for integration and how failing to iterate the processes can affect healthcare
improvement. The paper will further ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Project Managers (PMs) incorporated the doctors advice into the WTIS project plans while
setting predetermined deadlines for implementation to provide a good balance between consultation
and the planning group processes. The project team took the advice and created assessment tools that
required medical staff s judgment in the important decision for each patient (Healthcare Project
Management, 2013). The processes arrived at desired result by repeating rounds of analysis or cycles
of medical operations. The objective was to bring the desired decision closer to discovery with
iteration. The iterative process can be used where the decision is not easily revocable or where the
consequences of revocation could be costly (Business Dictionary, n.d). To maintain equilibrium in
areas of appropriateness, point of care decision support, and capacity, processes were improved after
each cycle of testing which optimized procedures ordering process.
PMs integrated the project management processes groups to successfully manage the WITS project
because healthcare projects are a part of a larger organizational environment, and many factors that
might affect the project are out of the project manager s control. One cannot simply shorten patients
wait time because it does not ensure an improvement in clinical performance. Wait time has to

Sisyphus Deception
Albert Camus, a French philosopher who tries to decipher a meaningful world through the trails and
tribulation of life. His piece, The Myth of Sisyphus can be interpreted that the essay represents man s
struggle to belong, an endless journey to achieve, and a glimpse of his own fate. Sisyphus is the
absurd hero. He is, as much through his passions as through his torture . (Camus, The Myth of
Sisyphus)
There is scarcely any person without struggle. (Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus) Sisyphus is a devious
mortal creature who is willing to betray his fellow man. Having minimal respect for his gods,
Sisyphus has a willingness to deceive in order to receive what he wants. Sisyphus has a profession as a
highwayman, where he lays his own path in life, often finding hardship and wanting to have what

Just as Sisyphus deceived his own wife, man deceives man. Somehow, man can look past his
deception and justify it with the thought process that their deception has not hurt anyone. There is a
multitude of scenarios in which I find myself like Sisyphus but it is the one man who changes those
patterns. It is the one man who finds himself, moving away from the norm and what society portrays
as truth. When that man emerges, it is difficult but courageous. It is a meaningful transformation that
will assist in helping others find who they were meant to be.
There is no fate that can not be surmounted by scorn. (Camus, The Myth Of Sisyphus) Having a
glimpse of your own fate is for those who choose to continue the struggle of the uphill climb and the
repetitive fall, and untrustworthy happiness. They will always be tormented as Sisyphus was, because
they will always be searching for something they can t find. The lack of fulfillment will devastate
them spiritually, emotionally and mentally. The stability of man will falter and the foundation they

Comparing Werner And Siddhartha
Werner seeks to change his destiny while Siddhartha searches for himself. Werner from All the Light
We Cannot See and Siddhartha from Siddhartha set out on journeys to change the inevitable. Although
Werner and Siddhartha s journey s on searching and seeking are very different due to the time periods,
they can be compared by using Joseph Campbell s monomyth theory, most prominently separation and
initiation. Both journeys tell an exquisite story, by starting with leaving their normal world. The first
stage of Joseph Campbell s monomyth theory is Separation. During the separation stage, the hero is
separated from the normal world. Beginning with a call to adventure, Siddhartha and Werner both
want to change their lives. Siddhartha ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Werner begins to fix radios and becomes well known in town as a handy man. He fixes a Nazi
generals radio and this is the first time you see Werner s life changing. The Nazi general, as a reward
for fixing the radio, offers Werner a one in a lifetime chance and offers Werner a place at a Nazi
school. Both Werner and Siddhartha a tempted by what they find. Siddhartha is tempted by money
while Werner is tempted by the school. Werner begins a road of trials and is noticed by a head at the
school named Dr. Hauptman, he then begins to train Werner to be better equipped at fixing radios.
Siddhartha and Werner s journey starts to really change because they both leave behind what they
were seeking. Werner leaves the school because Dr. Hauptman lies about his age and he is sent into
the military. He joins a special force that hunts down anti German radio broadcasts. Siddhartha returns
to the ferryman and leaves his material life behind. Next both characters go through an ultimate boon.
When Siddhartha was in town, after meeting a woman and becoming very close with her he left. What
he didn t know was that she was pregnant. Her and their now few year old son searched for
Siddhartha, then found him but the woman died of a snake bite. Siddhartha was left with his son, who

Emma s Management of Harriet s Affairs in Jane Austen s...
Emma s Management of Harriet s Affairs in Jane Austen s Emma
In this novel, Jane Austen uses the relationship between Emma and Harriet to highlight the important
issues. She uses Emma s management of Harriet to do this. She creates contrast between Emma and
Harriet, she portrays Emma as beautiful and intelligent though we can still see faults in her
personality. The main fault is her desire to control people and matchmake them. This also raises
issues, including the position of women and Emma s social status, marriage and comedy which is
shown through irony, especially in the relationship between Emma and Harriet.
The first thing we read is Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever and rich . By ... Show more content on

This shows that Austen had views ahead of her time. When Emma hears of Mr Martin s proposal, she
believes that Harriet s status is higher than his, and should refuse the offer when, in fact, this is not
true at all. In this sense, Emma is very naïve and shows how she misjudges situations. Mr Martin is of
a higher social class than Harriet and also has more money. Here Emma is misusing her patronage.
A further theme of the novel is patronage and how Emma abuses it. When Harriet refuses Mr Martin s
proposal, we can see that Harriet realises that she is in no position to do so, but Emma does not realise
this, portraying Emma as being quite ignorant of this issue. Mr Woodhouse Emma s father is satirised
by Austen to be a worrier, and is oblivious to what goes on around him. He, therefore, does not see
Emma s matchmaking and management of people. He is one of the main people of whom Emma
manages. Through this we see that Austen characterises Emma to abuse her own patronage.
The position of women was an issue in Austen s time and is highlighted in this novel. At this time,
women had very much a lower position in society than men but, because of Emma s inheritance and
family history, she is an exception to the rule. With the power this gives her, we see yet another
contrast between Harriet and Emma. Emma s intelligence and Harriet s lack of it is another contrast.

Theme Of Comradery In All Quiet On The Western Front
The psychologist Sigmund Freud once said, Because every man has a right over his own life and war
destroys lives that were full of promise; it forces the individual into situations that shame his
manhood, obliging him to murder fellow men, against his will. He initially stated this when he was
corresponding with Albert Einstein via letter. This quote is also a great explanation of the events that
take place during war that people chose to not recognise. War is terrible, and no matter how hard we
try, nothing will change that. Erich Maria Remarque shows us that soldiers have endured dreadfully
throughout World War I in his book All Quiet on the Western Front . The character in the book, Paul
Baumer, endures through the tragedies of war with some of his old schoolmates as well as new
comrades that he meets along the way. They survive through all of the tragedies together, but in the
end, the war made them lose their friendships as well as their lives. The reality is that war comes with
consequences while it destroys people, and there is nothing that will ever be able to change that. The
book All Quiet on the Western Front shows how war comes destroys people s lives with its
consequences through three of its themes: the importance of comradery, the loss of innocence, and the
horrors and brutality of war.
Comradery proved to be a great importance to all of the soldiers throughout the war. Whenever
somebody would get into a troublesome time, there was always another soldier

Habitus Case Study Habitus
Habitus is the environment which one is born into. This environment includes the people, traditions
and learned behaviors of this intimate social network. Blunden addresses specifically the habitus of
which the apparently disadvantaged occupy and how these positions are the base of social formation.
Habitus explains how, and why, they actively seek to maintain that position and uphold specific norms
(Blunden 2004). Blunden explains that these creatures maintain their position and preserve the status
quo within their habitat and field by policing individuals that choose to violate certain boundaries
established through cultural norm (2004). Habitus is the external reflection of the internalized notion

Education is accessible to everyone through the availability of student loans, just about anyone can get
student loans; and for those that are unsure of how to go about it there is plenty of aid in the process.
Even if one is not raised within the linguistic capital to encourage certain behaviors and certain
linguistic capabilities, this can be achieved through the process of education. The UNC education
system is useful in attaining my goal of educational capital, there is no double standard, especially
online. In the online environment I have no race and in my case minimal gender. You have no idea
how many times that a professor or student has referred to me as Thomas. The only obstacles in life
are self made. If we look hard enough we can find disparity in any situation, however, that is not
always the case. The apparent criticism by Blunden of Bourdieu in respect to cultural appreciation is
that Bourdieu reduces it to nothing more than a status game (2004); in essence it really isn t much
more than that. Work harder, be better, improve and improvise, that is the American spirit. Everyone
has that ability, one just has to possess the drive and desire to succeed and the determination to see

Similarities and Causes for Unfamilirity between...
A religion can be thought of as a paradigm comprised of dogmas, cultural structures, and world views
that govern the connection between an order of being and the human race. The majority of religions
use cultural narratives, iconography, and sacred histories to elucidate the radix and meaning of not
only life but also the universe. Devotees of a certain religion derive their morals, values, beliefs, and
life choices from their respective indoctrinated convictions. Currently, there are approximately 4
thousand varying religions that an individual may subscribe to. However, I am only going to address
two of the most dominant faith traditions; Islam and Christianity. Regardless of my own religious
beliefs, there is no denying that Islam and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have used the term monotheistic several times already and feel the need to clarify exactly what is
meant when referring to it within the context of faith traditions. All Abrahamic religions aver to be
monotheistic, meaning that adherents worship an exclusive God. Although each religion knows God
by a different name Christianity maintaining the Germanic, God, and Muslims using the Semitic,
Allah both believe in a divine being that is capable of love, creation, and forgiveness but also has the
ability to punish, judge, and smite (Peters Esposito, 2006). Where differences and religious conflicts
arise however is with Christianity s Trinitarian belief system. The three consubstantial expressions of
God, including the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, are fundamental aspects of faith for the vast
majority of Christian denominations but nevertheless conflicts with the Islamic concept of
monotheism. While this is an example of a difference in religious opinions rather than a similarity, it is
important to understand and allows an opportunity for me to offer my own brief perspective on the
matter. Without digressing too much from the topic at hand, my personal persuasion is that the
disagreement in monotheistic definitions stems from theological semantics and should not tarnish the

He talks how they were brave and full of aspiration by saying, give me a challenge and I ll meet it

women who lost their lives and that they will remain in our memory and hearts forever. He addresses
the school children as well so that they have a better understanding of what happened and how hard it
was to view such a tragedy. As a result, he wants for the children to understand that things do happen
and he does not want them to give up on their future with what they have seen no matter how bad the

other words, he wanted to try to explain things to them that would be at a level that they would

Demand Curve And The Supply Curve
In some cities around the world (e.g. Berlin, New York, and Stockholm) rent control is used to ensure
housing is affordable. Using the Market model, conduct an economic analysis of rent control. Use the
analysis as a basis for providing recommendations regarding its introduction in London.
Rent control, like all other government mandated price controls is a law placing a maximum price, or
a rent ceiling, on what landlords may charge tenants. If it is to have any effect, the rent level must be
set at a rate below that which would otherwise have prevailed (Walter Block).
The Market Model (figure 1) shows that there is a gap between supply and demand. This is
demonstrated by two curves which are the demand curve and the supply curve. Consumers of a
product are encouraged to increase purchasing when the government decreases prices and as price
rises to decrease purchasing, whereas, suppliers are encouraged to increase production when prices are
high and decrease production when prices fall. The market model shows that at one point the demand
curve and the supply curve intersect. This is called the equilibrium price where production is equal to
demand thus there is no surplus and no shortages. Figure 1 can also describe a Pareto efficient
economy. This is where all possible Pareto improvements have been made: where, therefore, it is
impossible to make anyone better off without making someone else worse off (Sloman, Wride and
Garratt, 2012, p 318).

Pros And Cons To Year-Round Education
Many school districts are faced with the problem of a growing student population coupled with a
shortage of school facilities and limited funds for new facilities. In response, some districts are
adopting or looking into year round education (YRE). In addition to maximizing the use of existing
schools for larger numbers of students, some education experts claim that year round school improves
student learning. With YRE, students attend school for the same number of days each year (180 days,
according to the U.S. Department of Education), but school breaks are arranged differently. A popular
YRE calendar uses a 60 20 plan, with students attending school for 60 days and then going on break
for 20. Other popular plans include 45 15 and 80 40. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cons to Year Round Education: Multitrack year round calendars eliminate the idea of a single class
using a single classroom. More storage space is usually required for students and teachers. Multitrack
year round calendars place additional demands on school support staff and on cafeteria, custodial and
maintenance services. Special accommodations must be made for annual school events like graduation
and parent conferences. Teachers who traditionally continue their own education during the summer
break need to find alternative forms of education and training. Working parents may find it harder to
find childcare for shorter breaks during the year than for the long summer break, when summer camp
and other full time activities are available. Families with children in different schools or districts may

Analysis of HMV
Marketing
Strengths
Physical market presence
Despite the closure of many of HMV s stores due to administration difficulties, over 100 stores were
still in operation in prime shopping locations in the UK and Ireland. In 2012 HMV had nearly 20% of
the market share, slightly more than Amazon at the time. HMV is one of the largest and most
successful entertainment retail store in Europe and is more successful than its rivals such as Virgin
megastore who closed down in Ireland in 2002. (McCaughren, 2007). As of 2013 HMV had 16 stores

Online retailing
By the time HMV caught up with other industry rivals such as Amazon it was too late to compete with
ideas such as the click and collect service where you order a product online and then collect it in store.
If HMV where to open back up they would need to have strong online presence by allowing customers
to have access to buying goods online. Ireland is the 2nd largest developed online market in Europe
with Irish consumers spending 420million online coming up to Christmas alone, so it is crucial to
HMV to operate online if they were to reopen. (Cullen, D. 2012)
Delivery service
HMV had a click and collect service but this is still inconvenient for consumers as they still have to go
to the store to collect their goods. Instead they could have a click and deliver service on their website
where consumers and buy any item and get it delivered to their door. This is way more convenient for
consumers and is making it easier for them to shop.
Applications
HMV could launch a digital music app on the app store on iTunes which allows customers to access
hundreds of free high quality songs and information about the most currents artists and popular music
at the time. This will be catering for generation y needs as they will be readily be able to look at
current music and listen to songs for free without having to physically go to a store. They could link

The Ethics Of Plant Biotechnology
By maintaining a largely fact based and scientific perspective throughout the book, Fedoroff furthers
her credibility. Plant biotechnology is Fedoroff s life s work, earning her a plethora of honors and
awards. Thus, it is only natural for her to be more in favor of the pro plant biotechnology view she
argues for in her book. However, Fedoroff maintains a neutral stance for the rest of her book,
presenting case studies, addressing both successes and failures of genetic engineering, and responding
to myths surrounding genetic engineering. Despite her authority, Fedoroff certainly did her research
before writing her book, having a bibliography with works presenting reliable and accurate data that
spans thirteen pages. While Fedoroff s career is founded on the future advancement of plant
biotechnology, she carefully addresses both the pros and cons of the rapidly expanding scientific
techniques and urges for caution as we proceed forward. Her motivation is to increase awareness of
the virtues of plant biotechnology, in spite of some of its failures. Mendel in the Kitchen is a
scientifically valid work, featuring many components that separate it from pseudoscience. Fedoroff
and Brown, in fact, follow a format that effectively discredits pseudoscientific claims while
reaffirming the actual science of genetically modified foods. The initial chapters describe the history
of GMOs to establish their current status today. Once this background biology knowledge is

An advantage are corporate shareholders cannot lose more money than they originally paid for their
share of stock. A disadvantage to being a corporation is that corporations are double taxed. Federal
and state government tax corporate income once at the corporate level, and then the shareholders pay
taxes again at the personal level. Hybrid Organizations promotes the growth of small businesses. An
advantage is that they offer single taxation and limited liability to all owners. A disadvantage is that
the owners bear personal liability for the firm s debt (Cornett, Adair, amp; Nofsinger, 2014). 3. Define
the terms agency relationship and agency problem, and list the three approaches to minimize the
conflict of interest resulting from the agency problem. Whenever one party hires someone else to work
for him or her that is an agency relationship. An agency problem is when the manager that is hired by
the firm to operate the firm spend company money to improve their own lifestyle instead of earning
more profits for shareholders (Cornett, Adair, amp; Nofsinger, 2014). The first approach is to ignore it,
of the amount of money involved is small enough relative to the firm s cash flow. The second
approach is to monitor the manager s actions. The final approach is to make the manager an owner.
Making the manager an equity stake in the firm. 4. Why is ethical behavior so important in the field of

Movie Summary
The movie Black Hawk Down is based on a true story. It takes place in Somalia in October of 1993. A
warlord by the name of Mohamed Farrah Aidid seized control of Mogadishu, the capital city of
Somalia. He accomplished this by capturing shipments of international food supplies at the ports and
used hunger as his weapon. More than 300,000 Somalians died by starvation. The United States
responded by sending in Delta Force, U.S. Army Rangers, and the 160TH Special Operations Aviation

You can see how SSG Eversmen does not agree with the answer they got. His reaction brought forth
the principle of utility also known as the greatest happiness principle. This principle states, when
choosing a course of action, always pick the one that will maximize happiness and minimize
unhappiness for the greatest number of people (Rosenstand, p.232). In SSG Eversmen s eyes,
intervening would have maximized the happiness of those starving by allowing them to get to eat and
saving them from getting shot.
Another moral issue that appears is during a conversation between Staff Sergeant Eversmen and a few
of his brothers in arms. The platoon s lieutenant is reading a book about Somalian culture and is
laughing about some of the things he is reading. One of the sergeants tells the lieutenant that Staff
Sergeant Eversmen likes the Somalian people. Staff Sergeant Eversmen explains it s not a matter of
liking them or not liking them, he is just trying to better understand them. This points out one of the
six problems of ethical relativism. The problem is not criticizing or praising cultures. In other words,
we have no right to criticize other cultures, period (Rosenstand, p.131). Staff Sergeant Eversmen was
trying to be understanding of not just the Somalian culture, but also, the civil war they were in the
middle of.
A final moral issue happens when one of Staff Sergeant Eversmen s good friends, Sergeant Smith, gets
shot. The wound caused by the bullet

Kurt Vonnegut uses the phrase Good bye blue Monday , because in America they used to wash
clothesonly in weekends. Every Monday they are busy in washing. So that day is called as washing
day. House wives are fed up with washing. During that time in America they started a washing
machine company. From that time onwards they become free from washing. So they said Good bye
Monday. But author does not reveal the phrase till the end of the novel. Then the company is closed
and in that place Americans have started making bullets for gun. This shows the condition of America.
Washing machine is also an invention at that time and shows the development of scientific technology.

The proponents of this criticism claim that this machine age has led to alienation of the society and it
becomes the nature of humanity. Those basic elements that make people as human are eroded in the
process, reducing humanity to something bestial or mechanical. In Breakfast of champions, many
people are discriminated because of their nature and move forward to make their life peaceful.
In Breakfast of Champions, the race also speaks about the dehumanization and of the old perception
Afro American labors as merely pieces of Machinery to perform work. For example, in 1492, when
they discovered American through ships, the slaves worked as machine in the ships. Their main work
was to put coal for the ship. Even if the machine has done that, it must be given rest for a while to
minimize the generated heat, but the human slaves from Africa were expected to work worse than

Research Paper On Celiac Disease
Celiac Disease
Imagine receiving a call from your doctor instructing you to refrain from eating wheat, barley, rye, and
oats ever again. That means no more Krispy Cream donuts. People who are diagnosed with Celiac
Disease cannot tolerate these types of food (King 115). This disease was first found in the second
century, but was not identified as such until the twentieth century. This disease was thought to be
common in Europe and rare in the United States, but the studies on that have not been focused on as
heavily in the recent years (Fasano 1). This is becoming a more common occurrence throughout the
human race over the last few decades. This is happening because scientist and doctors are learning

This sounds easy, but it is more difficult than it sounds. Cutting gluten out of one s diet basically
means that they may eat plain meats, fruits, vegetables, rice, potatoes, and most dairy products (King
120). This seems like a boring way to live, but there are many foods that have been made to be gluten
free. For example, there are bands like Gluteno that make gluten free cookies, pasta, and other
normally gluten containing foods. When picking out foods that are gluten free one needs to be
cautious. Always read the food label before purchasing any product you think may be gluten free
(King 121). By law, labels must list all ingredients in a product and if it contains a common allergen
(including wheat) and this should be stated clearly (Hand 54). Some foods that are labeled gluten free
will still be processed in a facility that makes foods with the gluten protein. Steer clear of these items,
as they may be cross contaminated on the facilities processing equipment. Cross contamination can be
an everyday issue that people with Celiac Disease have to face. They are advised not to eat foods
prepared with pans, dishes, or utensils that were previously used to prepare allergenic food (Hand 54).
This can add difficulties when eating out or anywhere that one cannot regulate how the food is

Why Data Mining Is The Extraction Of Knowledge From The...
Data mining is the extraction of knowledge from the various databases that was previously unknown
(Musan Hunyadi, 2010). Data mining consists of using software that conglomerates artificial
intelligence, statistical analysis, and systems management in the act of extracting facts and
understanding from data stored in data warehouses, data marts, and through metadata (Giudici, 2005).
Through algorithms and learning capabilities data mining software can analyze large amounts of data
and give the management team intellectual and effective information to help them form their
decisions. The intention for data mining is to analyze prevailing data and form new truths and new
associations that were unknown prior to the analysis (Musan Hunyadi, ... Show more content on

These visualization tools that are made through the management team s queries, are synthesized with
the reports. Charts, tables, and graphs can help management teams make important decisions by
allowing them to see data in a quantitative view. The management team can use this new perspective
to understand all areas of their query and, in turn, they can make better and more informed decisions.
How Business Intelligence Systems are used Business intelligence systems are the combination of
operational data and analytical tools to aid managers to comprehend the capabilities available in the
firm, the industrial trends, future development in technologies and the market and even their
competitor s actions and the resulting implications (Wang, 2014, p. 1083). There are many ways
managers can use the information a business intelligence system gives them such as understand
customer behavior, analyzing competition understanding investment options, and knowledge
protection.
Customer Behavior The market place, even at a local level, is more competitive then it has been at any
other time in history. Companies must put a major emphasis on gaining customer loyalty and
understanding customer behavior in order to compete in today s market place. Tuta et al. (2014) offer
that intelligent technologies provide new options for manages to understand the market place they

Never Cry Wolf Ecology
Ecology is a vast study of living things and how they interact. By gathering ideas from Chapter 13,
Chapter 14, and Chapter 16 we learned many things about ecology. To tie these things all together, we
watched the movie Never Cry Wolf . This movie showed us that in every type of environment there
are connections that are more human than we know. The main character, Tyler, is sent on a mission in
the Arctic to study wolves and see if they are responsible for the population decrease of caribou. He
meets Rosie, a man who flies him out into the wilderness on his plane. Rosie is very careless and
spontaneous with his actions. The wolves that Tyler studies are named George and Angelica and their
children. You can t forget Uncle Albert too! Along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One being, habitat and niche. The wolves habitat was the arctic and one of its niches was that it hunts
in a pack. Another niche is that they only have a few cubs like George and Angelica had 2 cubs.
Secondly, competition and predation. The text says that every ecosystem has this trait and the movie
definitely supports that. In the movie there was competition over food and the predation of the
caribou. Third, population density and dispersion. The different packs of wolves moved all around and
were dispersed and not very dense at all. Though, the caribou were very dense and traveled all
together not just a few in one pack. Fourth, population growth. Like previously mentioned, wolves
only have a few cubs so the population growth stays mostly the same. Lastly, the ecological
succession. This happened more with the caribou than the wolves because of their decline in
population from the wolves. Lastly, in Chapter 16 there were many points about human impact on
ecosystems. In Never Cry Wolf , the human impact wasn t huge, but it existed. Ootek implied that
killing a wolf is worth a lot of money. Chapter 16 focused on water quality too, which can relate to the
movie. If the wolves, or Tyler for that matter, didn t have clean water they wouldn t be able to survive.
There are not many people in the Arctic, so there isn t much pollution. The ecological footprint of the
wolves was small because they don t have trash

The responsibility administering the honor code was delegated to the cadets. This was known as the
cadet honor board. The honor board conducted investigations on cadets who were reported to have
violated the honor code. The honor board would decide on a person s guilt or incense by a board vote.
The results were then forwarded to the Commandant for his action. General Berry had his concerns as
to how the honor board functioned. He believed that giving student s authority to investigate and
determine the guilt or innocence of fellow cadets was not in the academy s best interest. General Berry
viewed the current system was flawed and time consuming. The faculty who had a dislike for the
Honor Board also influenced General Berry. He felt that in order to preserve the academy s integrity.
General Berry believed the Honor board should be eliminated from the process. The challenge for
General Berry was to overcome the pressure placed upon him to make a quick decision. He had to
make a decision which were acceptable to the cadets, the public and government officials. General
Berry had to make sure that his decision was based upon evidence and the punishment if any was fair

The New Jersey Bear Hunt
When you think of the word bear what comes to mind? Some people may possible think of Yogi the
bear or Smoky the bear. However, society sets up a positive connotation for bears though in reality
they are quite aggressive animals. Since this is a reality, New Jersey along with others states set up
hunting seasons. The New Jersey bear hunt is in two different segments, A and B. Segment A is held
within October fifth to the tenth and segment B is December fifth to the tenth. In 2015 there were 472
bears killed within segment A while, 38 were killed in segment B. The bear hunt in New Jersey is
largely located in the northern counties. Bear hunting is a necessity in order to prevent the
overpopulation of the species.
Bear hunting is an extremely dangerous activity for one to partake in. There are many precautions one
must take in order to successfully kill a bear. Although bears are typically calm creatures they can
become extremely aggressive and dangerous if threatened. Therefore, one must be aware of their
surroundings at all times and ready for any encounter. Normally bears are baited using some kind of
container cut open with fruit and other strong smelling foods to draw the bears in. Though dangerous
bear hunting does also provide a considerable amount of food for a family. Those you hunt typically
do so in order to obtain the meat from the animal. A typical black bear weighs about 240 pounds on

Police Officers And Law Enforcement
Despite some police officers might use authority to frighten and approach others in any way they like,
there is still a great amount of officers that do live up to the standard to serve and protect others.
Police officers are often needed to reinstate order and regain the compliance from very hostile
situations. Police officers are sometimes required to use force that is not considered excessive or the
possibility of being accused or seen as brutality.
We can see that the media focuses greatly on these issues of appropriate extents of force and deadly
force that is used by law enforcement. Society has always been observing law enforcement through

The relationship with the community, groups with special interests, and also politics may play a great
portion in the configuration of these changes. Several centuries ago, common law was divided into
three special classifications: felony, treason, and misdemeanor. In those times felonies were
punishable by death. During the seventeenth century, when a police officer was conducting an arrest,
they were regulated to exercising deadly force as a last resort (Littlejohn, 1984). During the nineteenth
century, the same rule was still being enforced. The last resort rule began to diminish towards the end
of the nineteenth century. Currently police officers have other tools available that allows them to resort
to under different circumstances. Even though there are many different police departments and
different agencies, they are all pretty much guided under the same rules regarding deadly force and it s
use.
Annually, data concerning law enforcement is collected in a Uniform Crime Report, but it does not
gather information on recent acts a police officer can do (Burghart, 2014). Limited intelligence is
exposed about police violence. There are many real life situations that we have observed on the news
and in the media. The law demands that the federal government must accumulate data on police
shootings, but there is no obligation that a police department has to do so (Fisher, 2014). The

Theories on the Effects of Acupuncture on the Nervous System
Theories on the Effects of Acupuncture on the Nervous System
Despite the growing evidence that many ailments respond positively to acupuncture, much of the
Western World remains incredulous as to its healing abilities. The centuries old Chinese practice of
acupuncture, rooted in non scientific and non Western thought and medicine, has burgeoned during the
late twentieth century trend towards alternative medicines. Numerous clients readily attest to the
positive effects of acupuncture in treating such conditions as postoperative pain, asthma, and drug
addiction. Even so, many people are skeptical that placing hair thin needles into one s skin in an effort
to change the flow of Qi (pronounced Ch i) through mystical pathways in ... Show more content on

Qi is the fundamental concept behind the Chinese and Eastern justification for the function of
acupuncture. Chinese texts describe channels of energy called meridians that flow throughout the body
in regular patterns, a system just like the circulatory system or the nervous system. Flowing through
these meridians is Qi, vital life energy. Disease, defined as the imbalance in the flow of Qi, can result
from blockage of the meridians or a deficiency of energy. Disharmony of Qi will affect spiritual,
emotional, mental, and the physical aspects of the body. The acupuncturist works to restore your Qi to
a natural and healthy level of circulation (7). Needles are used to puncture the meridians where they
come close to the surface of the skin in order to unblock or nudge the Qi to flow back into its proper
channels, thus restoring its balance in the body.
During the past few decades, the practice of acupuncture has come under the intense scrutiny of the
Western nations (primarily the United States, England, and Europe), and there has been a push to
formulate a scientific explanation for the consequences of this mystical phenomenon on the body.
Although no singular theory has been successful in entirely proving or discovering the intrinsic
significance of acupuncture on the nervous system, it is generally accepted that the effects of
acupuncture on the body involves the release of opioid peptides in the body.
The opioid peptides are a comprised of

Although some people think Apple s computer hardware is the flagship of computers , people

Francesco Guicciardini s The Black Death
In the later Middle Ages, European countries faced a major crisis. European prosperity and growth
was brought to a halt by a series of famines and plagues, especially the Black Death in 1346 1353. The
Black Death was one of the most disastrous disease outbreaks in human history; it reduced the
population of Europe by half (McKay 342). While the Europeans experienced the climate change
called the Little Ice Age, a series of conflicts called The Hundred Years War (waged from 1337 to

India was the world s largest country in the beginning and was accounted for about 32.9% of world

destinations across the world; the concept of globalization is new to India. In 1991, in economic
reforms, India became fastest growing major economies and considered as newly industrialized
country. It faces the challenges like poverty, corruption, malnutrition and insufficient healthcare. In
1991, balance of payment disaster forced India to liberalize its economy and it moved towards free

That alternative is marked by a handsome visage with a bold grille, a muscular hood, and strong

Ultimately, P P computers can gain a competitive advantage through understanding the desires and
needs of their loyal customer base. Furthermore, this project will also use association rules within
customer segments to predict what items are most likely to be purchased together thus informing
future business decisions. Background: Loyalty programmes have rapidly proliferated in almost all
consumer focussed industries. In the United States alone, explicit opt in programme memberships
topped 2.6 billion in 2012 (IIDA, 2014). The vast amount of transactional and demographic data
gathered from loyalty programmes has been used by many organisations to drive business decisions.
The use of supervised and unsupervised learning has been used to gather different information about
customer desires, trends and loyalty. There are two primary modelling approaches, they are recency,
frequency and monetary (RFM) model and the customer life value model (CLV). The RFM model
focusses on three key metrics; how recently a customer has purchased, how often they purchase and
how much money they spend. On the other hand, the CLV model attempts to predict the amount of
money a customer will spend with the company from present day till the time the business relationship
is terminated. Gupta et al (2006) indicate that the main limitation to RFM models is that they use a
scoring system and do not provide a specific dollar value. However, there are successful cases where

The Intense Debate Over Cloning
Technology has enabled people to realize many things their ancestors would not have even dreamed
of. Cloning is absolutely one of them. Having identical twins without being born on the same they is
like a dream come true. But what is cloning exactly? Cloning ,particularly in biotechnology, is the
process used to create copies of DNA fragment, cells, or organisms. Attempts at cloning might go
back to much earlier times such as the attempt made by Hans Dreisch in the late 1800 s to clone a sea
urchin, but it was not until 1951, when the first successful clone of frog egg was created, that goal was
finally achieved. Still, the world had to wait for another 44 years before the first mammal was cloned.
It was certainly sensational when the first cloned mammal, a sheep named Dolly was born on 5th July
1996. Since it was a milestone in human story, Dolly gained a world wide fame overnight and took its
place in the front pages of many newspapers and even tabloids next to celebrities. However, there is a
painful twist to this otherwise happy story because the death of Dolly at the age of six brought about
an intense debate particularly about the ethical side of cloning and it has been a controversial issue
ever since. Despite of all the debate it has caused among

and Abner Snopes. The boy s name in this is Colonel Sartoris Snopes and Abner Snopes is the father.
Abner Snopes feels that the law is always out to get him. So, he believes that his family should stick
r=together no matter what happens. The story is set in the late eighteen hundreds after the civil war.
The first scene of the story takes place in an old grocery store, in which they are holding a hearing for
Abner Snopes. A man named Mr. Harris accuses Abner for burning down his barn, but he has no
proof. The Justice calls Sarty to testify, but he does not speak. With Mr. Harris having no proof and
Sarty not testifying against his father the Justice tells Abner that he should leave the country and not
come back. Abner takes his family and leaves the country where he is not welcomed. This opening
scene sets the stage for the rest of the story. This story shows that over time if we think that the world
is out to get us we will only push those who are close to us away. After leaving the town the family
camped in a grove of oaks. Before going to bed Abner called Sarty and accused him of not standing up
for him. While Abner was talking to Sarty he brought up the thought that the people in the store were
only trying to get at him. The next morning they got up and

Categories Of Deviance
What is deviance? Deviance is the perpetual nature of behavior that strays from the societal norms
based on psychological, social and sociological aspect of a human being. Deviant behavior is known
to contribute an aspect of criminal behavior and actions. Based on the written literature of Max Weber,
there are three different types of regularities in sociology; charismatic, traditional and legal rational.
Each of these types of regularities capture the contemporary aspect of society. It is believed that
deviant behavior makes a vital contribution to the fabric of society because it allows different forms of
society to work together and conceive a consensus. There are many different examples of regularities,
such as; people tend to marry within their own class, people who are 18 and over can vote and only
people with licenses can drive.the consequences of not conforming to different types of regularities
differ from imprisonment to legal fines. The difference between customary norms and obligatory
norms are the severity of social backlash and federal consequences. Customary norms are generally
things like, tipping waiters above 15% or wearing seatbelts when driving; whereas, obligatory norms
follow the example of obeying the law. The two different types of legitimate orders are based upon
who they come from, one example would be from a police officer and another example would be from
a parent. The first has a legal obligation and the second has a social hierarchy.
Becker and Erikson both conceive deviance as a collective social process whereas people of different
societal norms and classes create their own boundaries based on these communities. The community
of African Americans have subsequently been categorized as a deviant group of people by society.
Their behavior in society is collectively misunderstood as deviant behavior whether they are
committing actual crimes or just selling lemonade on the sidewalk. This group responds to being a
labelled as a deviant group in a negative way, african americans have created movements that stand to
remove the embellished stereotypes they are labeled with. Black people have been categorized as a
deviant group of people since they were captured and sold on to slave

Sunlight And Darkness
John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men, conveys sunlight and darkness in the book by
symbolizing sunlight as happiness and darkness as a bad thing. John Steinbeck uses these symbols
throughout the book to narrate certain segments in the book. He also uses the symbols to aid the reader
to interpret the story more. The author chose to uses those images to show that things can be good at
first but they can also end up being very bad at the end. Symbols help readers better understand the
story more which is why the author John Steinbeck starts off the book Of Mice and Men with a
happier setting. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the
sunlight before reaching the narrow pool (Steinbeck 1). He uses this setting to portray happiness as it
is a very calm and peaceful setting. The day was going fast now. Only the tops of the of the Gabilan
Mountains flamed with the light of the sun that had gone from the valley (Steinbeck 4). The author
explains that now that George and Lennie have arrived to the Salinas River it has gotten darker and
gloomy. The setting is changing it is no longer a bright and happy place as the sun is setting it is
getting darker. A few other symbols that portray darkness and sunlight are George and Lennie. George
is the sunlight because he is like a father figure to Lennie, George looks out for him, and George helps
him survive out in the world. And Lennie is the darkness because of his mental illness when

Summary Of Fifty Shades Freed
With the anticipation of Fifty Shades Darker coming out, it seems Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan
are already gearing up for Fifty Shades Freed. The two were spotted wandering up and down the Cote
d Azur beach. But the interesting part was when the actress was seen in a skimpy yellow two piece
bikini while photographers were taking pictures like crazy. Is this the scene from the Fifty Shades
Freed novel where the two lovers were already on their honeymoon? It must be that because Dakota
suddenly went topless to sunbathe while her co star Jamie Dornan approached her for some massage.
The sweetest part was when Jamie made sure his co star was all covered up with a towel whenever
they were not being filmed. According to reports, in the same

Reform Movement Dbq
During the 1820s 1850s, lots of change and chaos was going on in the very young United States.
Along with this chaos, many people wanted different things to change in the country, which caused
many reform movements to occur. From slavery to healthier prisons, these movements helped shape
the US before the Civil War. American reform movements sought for the expansion of democratic
ideas, however, some reform movements were radical at the time and did not do as successful as
others. The most well known reform movement was the anti slavery campaign. This movement
occurred mostly in North. The Northerners viewed the South s practice of slavery to be morally wrong
and should be banned from the United States. In Document C, the engraving says, ... Show more

Liquor became a very popular substance in this time period and people began to see that drunkenness
from over drinking was tearing families apart. According to Document H, there was 9 steps of
drinking called, The Drunkard s Progress . What the artist is trying to portray is that drinking is bad if
it gets out of hand. One or two drinks is good but once a person reaches 3 to 4 it is hard to stop
continuing. Drinking in moderation was not the problem, it was an overdose of alcohol and
recklessness of the individual that caused the problem. People began to question why drunkenness was
becoming such a problem. In the opinion of Charles Finney, a well known 2nd Great Awakening
Evangelical, he believed that religion was not having a big enough influence in society. He believed
that if church became a presence in society then, Harlots, drunkards, and infidels, and all sorts of
abandoned characters, [would be] converted and awakened (Document B). Others believed the stress
of the times caused this liquor outbreak or believed that the creation of more drinking holes caused
more publicity for drinking. Either way, the United States went through a period heavy drinking with

Maria Rainer
Robert Wise s character Maria Rainer, in the movie The Sound of Music is understanding,
imaginative, and a motherly figure to the seven Von Trapp children. In the movie, Maria emphasizes
the quality of being sympathetic when Liesl, the eldest daughter of the Von Trapp family, cowardly
meets with her friend Rolf Gruber without Captain Von Trapp s authorization. When Liesl returns
home subsequent to her bedtime all drenched, Maria asks in her prayers to understand [Liesl], so that
God will help her to guide [Lisle s] footsteps. This demonstrates that Maria is understanding and
considerate to the Von Trapp children who are mother less, to have a pleasurable life of their own they
can get happiness from their acquaintances. When Maria initially ... Show more content on

Furthermore, Maria does not question Liesl about her whereabouts and shows complete faith in her.
By allowing Liesl to escape from trouble when she sneaks out of the house, Maria shows the
superiority of being understanding, as Liesl gains additional trust and dependence on Maria. Just as
conspicuously, Maria is incredibly sympathetic, but she is also extremely imaginative. Maria has a
vast imagination when she makes play clothes for the children from the curtains which hang in her
room. This proves Maria is imaginative because knowing the Von Trapp children have sailor suit
uniforms of their own, she makes clothes that are not in the children s social class, to wear to their fun
adventures for instance boating and tree climbing. Although the Captain does not give her fabric for
the clothes, Maria s creative imagination develops ideas to make them. Captain explains that [the
children] have uniforms, but Maria s thoughts cannot stop her. This emphasizes that Maria is
imaginative because she desires the children to have a marvelous time and forget about all the rules
and regulations they follow under their father s

Social Effects Of Underage Drinking
Introduction
Alcohol when consumed by adults in moderation and in appropriate circumstances, may not have any
permanent physical, mental or emotional effects. On the other hand, if alcohol is consumed underage,
mixed with other drugs or drank in excess can cause many adverse effects impacting the entire body. I
will be focusing on the impacts of underage drinking due to alcohol contributing to the 3 primary
causes of death among teenagers: unintentional injuries, homicide and suicide (Australian Drug
Foundation, 2017). Moreover, 78% of 14 17 year old s have tried alcohol at least once despite 18
being the legal drinking age.
The reason alcohol is so common among teenagers is due to the social importance and integration
alcohol has in Australian society. Relatives, teachers and parents alike drink in all circumstances:
when they re sad, when they re happy and even when they re bored (National Institute on Alcohol
Abuse and Alcoholism, 2017). These people are the most influential people in a teenager s life and by
drinking so freely, they condition the next generation to follow in their footsteps and make any excuse
to drink. I believe social exclusions and stunted learning, that underage drinking brings due to its
physical, emotional, social and mental effects can lead to an undesirable future. During adolescence,
relationships with family and friends as well as personal and educational development can define a
person s future health; so by indulging in underage drinking you

Baltimore Maryland Population
Many cities are known for their downtown area and their harbors that are along the different
waterways. Baltimore Maryland is a well known area when it comes to its downtown harbor. Each
year the downtown area attracts thousands of tourists and celebrities. Its most popular time of the year
is during the late spring and summer. Many tourists like to come and enjoy the harbor and the seafood
that the city is well known for. Although the city experiences some pretty harsh winters, the summer is
a totally different story. The city of Baltimore was founded in July of 1729, and was named after Lord
Baltimore. In 1814 the colonist won the battle of Baltimore which forced the state of Maryland to
become part of the union, but kept slavery legal. In 1861 union troops started a war which lasted until
1865. In February of 1904 the city experienced the great fire of Baltimore ... Show more content on

It took a deeper look into the total population, the education, income and poverty levels of both the
African American and the white non Hispanic community. When we sit and compare these numbers
we see that the difference in the total population of African Americans and whites is extremely
significant. Majority of the black community is living below poverty which is an effect of many
causes. Some of the causes are low education rates and low household income. Because individuals do
not finish school its then harder for them to find legal jobs. Although Baltimore is known for its crime
rate as well as its extremely high poverty level there is still some good within the city. The national
harbor brings in thousands of dollars each year and also brings hundreds of tourists into the area. The
city of Baltimore is also known for its secondary educational facilities it produces and its medical
hospitals. The ACS gave us a deeper look at the things people don t see when they think of the great

Compare and Contrast Helen- HD POE Essay
Comparison and Contrast Essay
In the poems, To Helen and Helen , both Edgar Allan Poe and H.D. emphasize the beauty of the
infamous Helen of Troy; however, the speakers attitudes differ as one praises and worships Helen
while the other condemns her for her treachery and remains unmoved by her beauty. Although both
poems discuss Helen of Troy, both speakers withhold different perspectives within the first stanza. In
To Helen the speaker sets Helen on a pedestal as he uses the apostrophe Helen, thy beauty is to me
(Poe, line 1). He emphasizes that he speaks to her as the title To Helen sets the praiseful tone within
the poem. However, the unimpressed speaker of Helen displays the loss of connection to this famous

line 10) in which they long to forget. However, the enchanted speaker believes that Helen portrays the
opposite as she is the glory that was Greece (Poe, line 9) and the grandeur that was Rome (Poe, line
10).
The varying structures in the third stanzas emphasize the differentiating views of Helen. The style and
structure of To Helen contribute to the persona s romantic notion of Helen of Troy. The stanza is set up
like the rest with five lines that illustrate her beauty. She is an agate lamp (Poe, line 13) which shines
light on Greece and she is Psyche, from the regions , which Are Holy Land! (Poe, lines 9 and 10).
However the unmoved speaker uses just a simple sentence as the last stanza and lacks the exclamation
points and a rhyme scheme which portrays the cold disapproval she were laid, white ash amid funereal

Greece as opposed to the other speaker. He harshly believes that the only way that she can be praised
for her beauty is if she was laid, white ash amid funereal cypresses. (H.D., line 17) In both the poems
To Helen and Helen the views of Helen the face that launched a thousand ships , differs as her beauty
praised as a heroine juxtaposes the belief that she remains a traitor. she were laid, white ash amid

The Abolishment Of Language And Culture In Aitmatov
As well as targeting Islam, the Soviet Union also feared the influence of the Turkic languages and
Arabic script. Therefore the Soviets established official languages and changed the script of Central
Asia multiple times. Although the popular script of the region was Arabic, it was changed to Latin in
1928 to prevent influence from Arabic speaking countries, and was changed again in 1940 to Cyrillic
in order to prevent influence from Europe, especially Germany, during World War II. Russian also
became a prevalent, almost forced language since it was taught at the schools and became an essential
language for career advancement and success. In addition to establishing an official language and

Indeed, by attempting to form an uniquely Uzbek identity, they have repressed other ethnic minorities
within their borders, including the large Tajik population, the Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Karakalpaks, and other
smaller minorities that remained in the country after being forcefully sent there in the mid twentieth
century, including the Germans. In fact, many Karakalpaks, who share a different ethnicity from the
Uzbeks, have wanted to become independent. However, those who seek independence or have
criticized the Uzbek government are said to have been arrested and tortured to death. Meanwhile,
newspaper and other media outlets are shut down or heavily censored. Although The Day Lasts more
than a Hundred Years was written before the fall of the Soviet Union and the independence of these
Central Asian countries, Aitmatov s mankurt can also be symbolic of Uzbekistan as well. At first it
seems that Uzbekistan s actions could represent a reverse mankurt because they are attempting to
reclaim the memories and identity that was destroyed during the Soviet Union. However, by
attempting to force what they believe to be the old culture, but what is in fact a modern creation of
culture, on the country s population, they deny other ethnicities their own identity. In the country s

Emma s Management of Harriet s Affairs in Jane Austen s Emma In this novel, Jane Austen uses the relationship between Emma and Harriet to highlight the important issues. She uses Emma s management of Harriet to do this. She creates contrast between Emma and Harriet, she portrays Emma as beautiful and intelligent though we can still see faults in her personality. The main fault is her desire to control people and matchmake them. When Emma hears of Mr Martin s proposal, she believes that Harriet s status is higher than his, and should refuse the offer when, in fact, this is not true at all. In this sense, Emma is very naïve and shows how she misjudges situations. Mr Martin is of a higher social class than Harriet and also has more money. Here Emma is misusing her patronage. A further theme of the novel is patronage and how Emma abuses it. When Harriet refuses Mr Martin s proposal, we can see that Harriet realises that she is in no position to do so, but Emma does not realise this, portraying Emma as being quite ignorant of this issue. Mr Woodhouse Emma s father is satirised by Austen to be a worrier, and is oblivious to what goes on around him. He, therefore, does not see Emma s matchmaking and management of people. He is one of the main people of whom Emma manages. Through this we see that Austen characterises Emma to abuse her own patronage. The position of women was an issue in Austen s time and is highlighted in this novel. At this time, women had very much a lower position in society than men but, because of Emma s inheritance and family history, she is an exception to the rule. • 8. Theme Of Comradery In All Quiet On The Western Front The psychologist Sigmund Freud once said, Because every man has a right over his own life and war destroys lives that were full of promise; it forces the individual into situations that shame his manhood, obliging him to murder fellow men, against his will. He initially stated this when he was corresponding with Albert Einstein via letter. This quote is also a great explanation of the events that take place during war that people chose to not recognise. War is terrible, and no matter how hard we try, nothing will change that. Erich Maria Remarque shows us that soldiers have endured dreadfully throughout World War I in his book All Quiet on the Western Front . The character in the book, Paul Baumer, endures through the tragedies of war with some of his old schoolmates as well as new comrades that he meets along the way. They survive through all of the tragedies together, but in the end, the war made them lose their friendships as well as their lives. The reality is that war comes with consequences while it destroys people, and there is nothing that will ever be able to change that. The book All Quiet on the Western Front shows how war comes destroys people s lives with its consequences through three of its themes: the importance of comradery, the loss of innocence, and the horrors and brutality of war. • 12. Demand Curve And The Supply Curve In some cities around the world (e.g. Berlin, New York, and Stockholm) rent control is used to ensure housing is affordable. Using the Market model, conduct an economic analysis of rent control. Use the analysis as a basis for providing recommendations regarding its introduction in London. Rent control, like all other government mandated price controls is a law placing a maximum price, or a rent ceiling, on what landlords may charge tenants. If it is to have any effect, the rent level must be set at a rate below that which would otherwise have prevailed (Walter Block). The Market Model (figure 1) shows that there is a gap between supply and demand. This is demonstrated by two curves which are the demand curve and the supply curve. Consumers of a product are encouraged to increase purchasing when the government decreases prices and as price rises to decrease purchasing, whereas, suppliers are encouraged to increase production when prices are high and decrease production when prices fall. The market model shows that at one point the demand curve and the supply curve intersect. This is called the equilibrium price where production is equal to demand thus there is no surplus and no shortages. Figure 1 can also describe a Pareto efficient economy. This is where all possible Pareto improvements have been made: where, therefore, it is impossible to make anyone better off without making someone else worse off (Sloman, Wride and Garratt, 2012, p 318). To tie these things all together, we watched the movie Never Cry Wolf . This movie showed us that in every type of environment there are connections that are more human than we know. The main character, Tyler, is sent on a mission in the Arctic to study wolves and see if they are responsible for the population decrease of caribou. The wolves habitat was the arctic and one of its niches was that it hunts in a pack. Another niche is that they only have a few cubs like George and Angelica had 2 cubs. Secondly, competition and predation. The text says that every ecosystem has this trait and the movie definitely supports that. In the movie there was competition over food and the predation of the caribou. Third, population density and dispersion. The different packs of wolves moved all around and were dispersed and not very dense at all. Though, the caribou were very dense and traveled all together not just a few in one pack. Fourth, population growth. Like previously mentioned, wolves only have a few cubs so the population growth stays mostly the same. Lastly, the ecological succession. This happened more with the caribou than the wolves because of their decline in population from the wolves. Lastly, in Chapter 16 there were many points about human impact on ecosystems. In Never Cry Wolf , the human impact wasn t huge, but it existed. Ootek implied that killing a wolf is worth a lot of money. Chapter 16 focused on water quality too, which can relate to the movie. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Qi is the fundamental concept behind the Chinese and Eastern justification for the function of acupuncture. Chinese texts describe channels of energy called meridians that flow throughout the body in regular patterns, a system just like the circulatory system or the nervous system. Flowing through these meridians is Qi, vital life energy. Disease, defined as the imbalance in the flow of Qi, can result from blockage of the meridians or a deficiency of energy. Disharmony of Qi will affect spiritual, emotional, mental, and the physical aspects of the body. The acupuncturist works to restore your Qi to a natural and healthy level of circulation (7). Needles are used to puncture the meridians where they come close to the surface of the skin in order to unblock or nudge the Qi to flow back into its proper channels, thus restoring its balance in the body. During the past few decades, the practice of acupuncture has come under the intense scrutiny of the Western nations (primarily the United States, England, and Europe), and there has been a push to formulate a scientific explanation for the consequences of this mystical phenomenon on the body. Although no singular theory has been successful in entirely proving or discovering the intrinsic significance of acupuncture on the nervous system, it is generally accepted that the effects of acupuncture on the body involves the release of opioid peptides in the body. Deviance is the perpetual nature of behavior that strays from the societal norms based on psychological, social and sociological aspect of a human being. Deviant behavior is known to contribute an aspect of criminal behavior and actions. Based on the written literature of Max Weber, there are three different types of regularities in sociology; charismatic, traditional and legal rational. Each of these types of regularities capture the contemporary aspect of society. It is believed that deviant behavior makes a vital contribution to the fabric of society because it allows different forms of society to work together and conceive a consensus. There are many different examples of regularities, such as; people tend to marry within their own class, people who are 18 and over can vote and only people with licenses can drive.the consequences of not conforming to different types of regularities differ from imprisonment to legal fines. The difference between customary norms and obligatory norms are the severity of social backlash and federal consequences. Customary norms are generally things like, tipping waiters above 15% or wearing seatbelts when driving; whereas, obligatory norms follow the example of obeying the law. The two different types of legitimate orders are based upon who they come from, one example would be from a police officer and another example would be from a parent. The first has a legal obligation and the second has a social hierarchy. Becker and Erikson both conceive deviance as a collective social process whereas people of different societal norms and classes create their own boundaries based on these communities. It must be that because Dakota suddenly went topless to sunbathe while her co star Jamie Dornan approached her for some massage. The sweetest part was when Jamie made sure his co star was all covered up with a towel whenever they were not being filmed. According to reports, in the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Reform Movement Dbq During the 1820s 1850s, lots of change and chaos was going on in the very young United States. Along with this chaos, many people wanted different things to change in the country, which caused many reform movements to occur. From slavery to healthier prisons, these movements helped shape the US before the Civil War. American reform movements sought for the expansion of democratic ideas, however, some reform movements were radical at the time and did not do as successful as others. The most well known reform movement was the anti slavery campaign. This movement occurred mostly in North. The Northerners viewed the South s practice of slavery to be morally wrong and should be banned from the United States. In Document C, the engraving says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Liquor became a very popular substance in this time period and people began to see that drunkenness from over drinking was tearing families apart. According to Document H, there was 9 steps of drinking called, The Drunkard s Progress . What the artist is trying to portray is that drinking is bad if it gets out of hand. One or two drinks is good but once a person reaches 3 to 4 it is hard to stop continuing. Drinking in moderation was not the problem, it was an overdose of alcohol and recklessness of the individual that caused the problem. People began to question why drunkenness was becoming such a problem. In the opinion of Charles Finney, a well known 2nd Great Awakening Evangelical, he believed that religion was not having a big enough influence in society. He believed that if church became a presence in society then, Harlots, drunkards, and infidels, and all sorts of abandoned characters, [would be] converted and awakened (Document B). Others believed the stress of the times caused this liquor outbreak or believed that the creation of more drinking holes caused more publicity for drinking. • 43. Maria Rainer Robert Wise s character Maria Rainer, in the movie The Sound of Music is understanding, imaginative, and a motherly figure to the seven Von Trapp children. In the movie, Maria emphasizes the quality of being sympathetic when Liesl, the eldest daughter of the Von Trapp family, cowardly meets with her friend Rolf Gruber without Captain Von Trapp s authorization. When Liesl returns home subsequent to her bedtime all drenched, Maria asks in her prayers to understand [Liesl], so that God will help her to guide [Lisle s] footsteps. By allowing Liesl to escape from trouble when she sneaks out of the house, Maria shows the superiority of being understanding, as Liesl gains additional trust and dependence on Maria. Just as conspicuously, Maria is incredibly sympathetic, but she is also extremely imaginative. Maria has a vast imagination when she makes play clothes for the children from the curtains which hang in her room. This proves Maria is imaginative because knowing the Von Trapp children have sailor suit uniforms of their own, she makes clothes that are not in the children s social class, to wear to their fun adventures for instance boating and tree climbing. Although the Captain does not give her fabric for the clothes, Maria s creative imagination develops ideas to make them. Captain explains that [the children] have uniforms, but Maria s thoughts cannot stop her. This emphasizes that Maria is imaginative because she desires the children to have a marvelous time and forget about all the rules and regulations they follow under their father s ... • 44. Social Effects Of Underage Drinking Introduction Alcohol when consumed by adults in moderation and in appropriate circumstances, may not have any permanent physical, mental or emotional effects. On the other hand, if alcohol is consumed underage, mixed with other drugs or drank in excess can cause many adverse effects impacting the entire body. I will be focusing on the impacts of underage drinking due to alcohol contributing to the 3 primary causes of death among teenagers: unintentional injuries, homicide and suicide (Australian Drug Foundation, 2017). Moreover, 78% of 14 17 year old s have tried alcohol at least once despite 18 being the legal drinking age. The reason alcohol is so common among teenagers is due to the social importance and integration alcohol has in Australian society. Relatives, teachers and parents alike drink in all circumstances: when they re sad, when they re happy and even when they re bored (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2017). These people are the most influential people in a teenager s life and by drinking so freely, they condition the next generation to follow in their footsteps and make any excuse to drink. I believe social exclusions and stunted learning, that underage drinking brings due to its physical, emotional, social and mental effects can lead to an undesirable future. During adolescence, relationships with family and friends as well as personal and educational development can define a person s future health; so by indulging in underage drinking you ... Baltimore Maryland is a well known area when it comes to its downtown harbor. Each year the downtown area attracts thousands of tourists and celebrities. Its most popular time of the year is during the late spring and summer. Many tourists like to come and enjoy the harbor and the seafood that the city is well known for. Although the city experiences some pretty harsh winters, the summer is a totally different story. The city of Baltimore was founded in July of 1729, and was named after Lord Baltimore. In 1814 the colonist won the battle of Baltimore which forced the state of Maryland to become part of the union, but kept slavery legal. In 1861 union troops started a war which lasted until 1865. When we sit and compare these numbers we see that the difference in the total population of African Americans and whites is extremely significant. Majority of the black community is living below poverty which is an effect of many causes. Some of the causes are low education rates and low household income. Because individuals do not finish school its then harder for them to find legal jobs. Although Baltimore is known for its crime rate as well as its extremely high poverty level there is still some good within the city. The national harbor brings in thousands of dollars each year and also brings hundreds of tourists into the area. • 46. Compare and Contrast Helen- HD POE Essay Comparison and Contrast Essay In the poems, To Helen and Helen , both Edgar Allan Poe and H.D. emphasize the beauty of the infamous Helen of Troy; however, the speakers attitudes differ as one praises and worships Helen while the other condemns her for her treachery and remains unmoved by her beauty. Although both poems discuss Helen of Troy, both speakers withhold different perspectives within the first stanza. In To Helen the speaker sets Helen on a pedestal as he uses the apostrophe Helen, thy beauty is to me (Poe, line 1). He emphasizes that he speaks to her as the title To Helen sets the praiseful tone within the poem. However, the unimpressed speaker of Helen displays the loss of connection to this famous woman as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... line 10) in which they long to forget. However, the enchanted speaker believes that Helen portrays the opposite as she is the glory that was Greece (Poe, line 9) and the grandeur that was Rome (Poe, line 10). The varying structures in the third stanzas emphasize the differentiating views of Helen. The style and structure of To Helen contribute to the persona s romantic notion of Helen of Troy. The stanza is set up like the rest with five lines that illustrate her beauty. She is an agate lamp (Poe, line 13) which shines light on Greece and she is Psyche, from the regions , which Are Holy Land! (Poe, lines 9 and 10). However the unmoved speaker uses just a simple sentence as the last stanza and lacks the exclamation points and a rhyme scheme which portrays the cold disapproval she were laid, white ash amid funereal cypresses. of Helen. The speaker believes that her cold feet and slenderest knees could not move Greece as opposed to the other speaker. He harshly believes that the only way that she can be praised for her beauty is if she was laid, white ash amid funereal cypresses. (H.D., line 17) In both the poems To Helen and Helen the views of Helen the face that launched a thousand ships , differs as her beauty praised as a heroine juxtaposes the belief that she remains a traitor. she were laid, white ash amid funereal cypresses. she were laid, white ash amid funereal cypresses. she were laid, white ... • 47. The Abolishment Of Language And Culture In Aitmatov As well as targeting Islam, the Soviet Union also feared the influence of the Turkic languages and Arabic script. Therefore the Soviets established official languages and changed the script of Central Asia multiple times. Although the popular script of the region was Arabic, it was changed to Latin in 1928 to prevent influence from Arabic speaking countries, and was changed again in 1940 to Cyrillic in order to prevent influence from Europe, especially Germany, during World War II. Russian also became a prevalent, almost forced language since it was taught at the schools and became an essential language for career advancement and success.
