Effects Of Socialisation In South Africa
During the Apartheid era of oppression, Steve Biko explains in the 1970s that the black people of
South Africa were treated unfairly, to the extent to which their African identities were stolen due to
forced socialisation. The Apartheid government put in structures which purposefully taught these
Africans that their sole purpose was to serve subserviently to white South Africans, taking away
their culture and distancing them from their history. They achieved this my means of altering their
education, political privilege and spiritual poverty. Each of these aspects were altered by the
Apartheid government which contributed to the changed identity of the black South Africans. A
power difference had always existed between whites and black ever... Show more content on

The Apartheid political system was designed in such a way that black people were taught that their
cultures were, in fact, incorrect. From when they were born, they were taught of an adapted culture
which suited white people. This process of forced culture was abuse of socialisation; everything
one learns from when they are born which contributes to their personality and personal history.
Steve Biko describes that he was purely brought up in separate development, and that his entire
life was shaped by it. Depending on one s socialisation, the view of how you view yourself and
others around you is formed, this is identity. It can even be said that the identities of the black were
stolen from them, because identity means that we are all different, but the Apartheid system took
away the uniqueness of the black culture and taught them all to learn and believe the same thing.
The way in which the black people of South Africa were socialised, was to make them believe that
the only purpose in life was to be a servant to white people. Having this belief form part of their
identity, it was never a thought for them to be militant and fight the

Interview Report On The Segment Reporting
Executive Summary
This report will provide an overview as to what Segment Reporting is and how is it reported in the
annual reports. This report will also touch basis on issues involved in allowing the management to
measure the different operating segments. A brief discussion on how entity wide disclosures need
to be made for major customers under AASB 8. To get a better understanding on segment reporting,
we have compared the annual reports of Telstra Group and BHP Billiton, to view the different
approaches or similarities in reporting segment information.
In the end we have demonstrated the benefits of segment reporting to the users of General Purpose
Financial Statements (GPFS).
Introduction: Segment Reporting
In the present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The different requirements for an operating segment to be reportable under Paragraph 13 of AASB
8 are,
1)Quantitative Thresholds Tests:
A)Revenue test, wherein the reported revenue including sales to any external customers as well as
inter segment sales and transfers if 10% or higher of the total operating revenue will be reportable
revenue.
B)Profit or Loss test, wherein the reported profit or loss will be totaled in their respective absolute
amount, if 10% or more of such absolute amount of profit or loss in each activity will be reportable.
C)Asset test, wherein the assets in the operating segments that is 10% or more of the total of all
combine assets under the operating segments will be reportable (Deegan, 2012).
2)If the total external revenue of all reportable segments is below 75% of the total of all reportable
revenue of the different reportable segments more segments need to be reported until such revenue
is 75% or more unless such condition has already been satisfied (Deegan, 2012).
These tests will define the different reportable operating segments that need to be reported by the
organization in their financial report. The standards under AASB 8, even provides an approach,
where segments that were not reportable and did not qualify the above tests to be reportable
separately. This approach is referred to as the management approach, even any such information
analyzed by the chief operating officer

Chemical and Biological Uses of Weapons of Mass Destruction
Chemical and Biological Uses of WMD
The threat by terrorist groups in using Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) has increased
significantly in the recent years. Preventing the creation and the utilization of these deadly
weapons as well as their delivery systems and reducing those already in existence, has become of
extreme importance to the government. Certain weapons of mass destruction, such as chemical and
biological, are easier to acquire but much harder to detect. For that reason, they should be the
highest priority. Predicting when and how an attack will occur, involving chemical or biological
weapons, is not 100 percent possible; however, individuals should not ignore the possibility of such
an attack happening here on American soil. In the past, there have been attacks involving Sarin gas,
such as the Tokyo Subway attack, and just recently, the Sarin nerve agent use in Syria. Terrorist
have the capability to use chemical WMD and have shown that they are willing to use this method
in warfare. In addition, military biological WMD programs discovered in Iraq and Russia show
that there is a definite biological threat as well. Preparing America to face this threat head on is a
daunting task, but lacking preparedness could have devastating consequences beyond
comprehension. Agencies, such as public health organizations, must be prepared to prevent illness
and injuries resulting from biological and chemical terrorism, especially with a concealed attack by
a terrorist.

The Role Of Independent Agencies And The White House Staff...
The modern American presidency is defined as the presidency s transition to the center of American
governance. Distinct from typically passive and isolated presidencies during the 18th and 19th
centuries, the modern American presidency of the mid 20th century set the use of power and
popularity as precedence. The transition to the modern presidency can be understood through the
development of the presidency s institutional, international, and perceptual identity. In this essay, I
will argue that the increasing role of independent agencies and the White Housestaff that
spearheaded executive policymaking led to a significant institutional change to the presidency. I
will also argue America s expanding international function in response to globalization placed the
presidency, responsible for foreign policy, in a newly found position to exercise power. Finally, I
will argue that the public perception of the presidency as a living reality (Reedy, p. 10) shifted it
from a peripheral political entity to one at the center of policy discussion and leadership. In this
essay, I will present examples of the modern presidency in the attributes of administrations from
Franklin D. Rooseveltthrough John F. Kennedy, as well as evaluate scholarly models that
contextualize how attributes of these administrations shaped the modern presidency, such as John
Burke s Institutional Presidency, Aaron Wildavsky s Two Presidencies, and George Reedy s
American Monarchy.

Application Of A Regression Analysis
Since electricity demand and the regressors are in logarithms, the demand elasticities are directly
derived from the coefficients. Monthly binary dummy covers from January to November and does
not include dummy for December to avoid dummy variable trap. Severe multicollinearity between
price variables of on peak, mid peak and off peak limited the estimation of cross price elasticity. We
assume that individual error components are uncorrelated with each other. With regards to choice
of econometric technique, we used Cochrane Orcutt estimation to adjust serial correlation in error
terms. Due to the same explanatory variables appear in the log log equations, which is in fact OLS

Multicollinearity occurs when two or more predictors in the model are correlated and provide
redundant information about the response. That is, a multiple regression model with correlated
predictors can indicate how well the entire bundle of predictors predicts the outcome variable,
but it may not give valid results about any individual predictor, or about which predictors are
redundant with respect to others. Consequences of high multicollinearity is that increase in
standard error of estimates of the b s so that decrease in reliability (Farrar and Glauber 1967). In
case of perfect multicollinearity the predictor matrix is singular and therefore cannot be
inverted. Under these circumstances, the ordinary least squares estimator b =(X X) 1X y does
not exist. To detect multicollinearity, we calculate the variance inflation factors for each predictors
in RHS (Mansfield and Helms 1982). The VIF (variance inflation factors) for each predictor xj is:
VIFj = 1/( 1в€’R2j). R2j is the coefficient of determination of the model that includes all predictors
except the jth predictor. The models for the VIF test are: VIF for ln Pon: ln Ponm = ln I + b2 ln
Pmidm + b3 ln Poffm + b4 ln GPPt + cmDm + uont VIF for ln Pmid: ln Pmidm = ln I + b2 ln

Music In The Romantic Era
Following the Pre Classical and Classical periods, a new, very distinctive style of music emerged.
The Romantic Era Lasted from the year 1820 up until the year 1900. The Romantic Era consisted
of composers taking a more unique and expressive style of music. Hector Berlioz, Fryderyck
Chopin, and Robert Schumann are considered to be the most influential composers of the Romantic
Era. Nationalism and Exoticism played a very big part of musicexpression during this period. Both,
Art song and German Lieder music styles were invented and told stories in a musical form. These
three composers helped shape this era through the use of the pianoand the use of a more
supernatural realm style of music.
Hector Berlioz was born in the year 1803 in France. At the age of twenty two he left his career to
pursue his musical career. He went on to composing his first symphony at the age of twenty
seven. Hector was highly criticized in his homeland France for his music. It was very painful for
hector to be rejected from the musical community and deemed as a laughing stock. After
receiving the negative reviews of his music, he stated, I belong to a nation which has ceased to
be interested in the nobler manifestations of intelligence, and whose only deity is the golden calf.
The Parisians have become a barbarous people (Berlioz, 2016). He had to work very hard to be able
to afford all of the costs for his performances and was pretty much ignored throughout his musical
career. He was later

Analysis Of Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Chinua Achebe, was a nigerian writer, poet, critic, and professor. Born and raised in south east
nigeria, Achebe became curious and fascinated with traditional African cultures and religions as he
grew up. Then, as a university student studying English Literature, he starting writing stories and in
1959, he eventually created Things Fall Apart, a story that depicts african imperialism in the 1800s
and 1900s and captures the rapid changes that occurred in african culture during that time. . This
novel received attention and praise from the whole world, Chinua Achebesuddenly became
renowned for his literary workmanship and went on to publish many more creations. Living in
Lagos, Achebe witnessed the issues with development from old to new cultures in African
communities. Europeans envisioned africans as uncivilized and most were not enlightened of
the post colonial conditions and freedom in Africa. These factors prompted Achebe to inform
the world about Africa s real identity and establish a new voice in African literature. The
viewpoint of Achebe was biased to some extent when writing this novel, as someone who came
from africa and had a goal of restoring his country s cultural dignity, but it also provided a unique
point of view and a story produced from real life experiences. This book by Chinua Achebe is
known as a historical fiction, the characters and events did not occur in the past, but they were
devised according to historical occurrences and are correct in terms

The Out Of Body Experiences
Out of Body Experiences Out of Body Research Foundation noted Stephanie C Experiences on
April 25/2016 I remember drowning somehow (I think by a lake or river or something) and
eventually knowing I had passed. All of a sudden I felt an out of body experience and like I was
being lifted up through a vortex. A very intense vortex, it felt like I was going at least 100 mph.
The scenery looked like bright light and like I was passing through a bunch of stars. The vortex
eventually stopped however, and then my out of body experience occurred (OBERF, 2016). .
Out of body experiences are a process that focuses on the feeling of floating outside one s body,
and some cases, the feeling of perceiving one s physical body as if from a place outside one s
body (Brugger Mohr, 2009, p. 137). Out of body experiences may refer to astral projections or
near death experiences. Astral projections refer to a person s conscious detachment from one s
physical body that can travel or exist outside of the body, these individual who experience such
phenomena often are aware of their surroundings and can hear what is being said around them
(Slick, n.d.). In turn, near death experience refers to the possibility of detachment from one s body,
a feeling of levitation, total serenity, security, warmth and absolute dissolution and the presence of
light; usually associated with death (McRae, 2014). These are indexes for the paranormal. Out of
body experiences could happen to anyone, but many skeptics

Masculinity In Old Spice
Some say that it grants what it truly promises, others say it is only our imagination. The portrayal
of masculinity and manliness are quite prevalent in most of the old spice ads. Given the obvious
scope of the ad, which is to sell the product, the ad seems to portray other things. Masculinity shows
itself in the ad through different mannerisms. The appearance of the man, the behavior the man is
seen to have, and the sexuality. The Smell Like A Man ad is seen to portray two different ideals.
One of which promotes the viewer to want to become a masculine man. The other, however, lays
claim that the product will help in achieving this form of masculinity, not in a physical sense but in
a mental sense. The most portrayed ideals in the Old Spice ads are dominance, strength, and
competitiveness of the manly figure. The ad is somewhat targeted towards women to buy their
partner old spice in order for him to become a man. That is shown when the character states that
Your man can smell like a man if he uses Old Spice (Old Spice). The sense of domination over the
man watching the ad is obvious. The man in the ad is physically fit and shows that through his
confidence when he tells the women, who are also watching, to look back at me (Old Spice).
Following that up with a statement that separates the man in the ad from the man watching
claiming that he is not like me (Old Spice). Thus leaving the women watching in a desperate state
to make their man like the man in the ad. After

My coworker broke up the ice and scoop it into a bowl. Then, they would hand the bowl to me
and I would dump it into the top of the machine. This job was very tedious and one of my least

middle sink was empty for rinsing. The right sink was filled with diluted bleach. Right before
open, 11:00, I would put the hot dogs on the rollers. When the pizza arrived, I would put them into
the warmers. When everything was finished, my coworker and I would sit and wait for customers.
On most days the pool wasn t extremely busy. Typically, I would only get busy during adult swim

The cashier took the money and sometimes made drinks. The runner would get all the food

Sometimes I would have to heat up the pretzels or hot dogs in the microwave. I hated when that
would happen because I would have to run from the staff room back to the concession stand. After

Globalization And The Fast Food Market

Globalization
It is summer in Ghana and I m walking down a block in my neighborhood. The air is hazy and
dense and the smell of food fills every corner. A city that never used to have any of foreign foods,
now filled with the aroma and signs of fast food restaurants. As I walked, I realize that there was
only one whole food market. Meanwhile, a McDonald s and Kentucky Fried Chicken were seen
on multiple corners. Another thing I noticed: the majority of people entering the fast food market
are from places that were once filled with only traditionalists. A region where its former citizens
used to invest their time in cooking local traditional food and sold them to the public and families.
These same communities have now become so westernized that they neglect the traditional side of
diet. Instead, everyone now focus on the new fast food market. People are flocking with their
families into the fast food restaurants. Watching the differences between those who entered the
supermarket and those who entered the McDonalds s, I couldn t help but think about
complications minorities in the United States face from the fast food market. I made a very quick
connection with the United States because I had an idea of how people in the US especially
minorities, suffer from fast food. Some people (fast food victims) in Ghana aren t any better than
minorities in the US. The commonness of fast food in Ghana has created multiple jobs to

Socrates Definition Of Justice Essay
Justice
What is justice? This is a question that men have struggled with answering for centuries. Justice
should be defined for the sake of all people, especially by rulers who attempt to make fair laws so
that their society functions in an orderly fashion. In Book 1 of The Republic, Plato attempts to
define exactly what justice is. To help determine this definition, he speaks through the philosopher
protagonist of Socrates. Justice is first brought up in The Republic during Socrates trip to Piraeus.
While traveling Socrates ends up gathering with his interlocutors and together, they talk about
justice and how one would define it. Socrates debates with the men about the definition of justice
and is presented with a definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Republic presents two very different views of justice as argued by two skilled thinkers. The
beginning of the discussion starts off with Thrasymachus explaining what exactly he believes
justice is; justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger. (338c) Although
Thrasymachus definition is clear, Socrates attempts to spite him by using a wild comparison, by
saying If Polydamamas, the pancratiast, is stronger than we are and beef is advantageous for his
body, then this food is also advantageous and just for us who are weaker than he is. (338c) This
statement from Socrates disgusts Thrasymachus because Thrasymachus was simply referring to
stronger in the sense of being a ruler, not strong in the sense of being physically larger. To counter
Socrates, Thrasymachus explains how different societies are ruled throughout the world whether it
be tyrannically, democratically, or otherwise, and how the rulers, those who are strongest, are the
ones who make the laws and they do so to their advantage. Thrasymachus establishes this by saying
how, A democracysets down democratic laws; a tyranny, tyrannic laws; and the others do the
same. (338e) It is clear from this line of reasoning that Thrasymachus has a solid position that
justice is, rightly or wrongly, the enforcement of the rule of law as dictated by the strong leaders
that make the law.
Socrates attempts to disprove Thrasymachus definition of

from the other museums that I have visited more recently. It provided a great deal of interesting

setting, any personal interactions that occurred, my analysis of my favorite work of art that I

museum s setting was not at all what I had expected and was rather disappointing. Most museums
have a very solemn and academic mood that encourages silence and thoughtfulness. The Longmont
Museum, however, is set up more like a childrens play area than an actual museum. There needs to

Pathogenesis of Cervical Cancer
CELL BIOLOGY ESSAY PATHOGENESIS OF CERVICAL CANCER
Introduction
According to the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health (2011), cervical cancer
becomes the tenth commonest cancer in Hong Kong in 2008. Cervical cancer usually arises from
sexual activity and human papillomavirus (HPV) (Bellentir, 2002). In this essay, Human
papillomavirus would be further discussed. For example, the signal transport pathway of HPV 16
and HPV 18, which many scientists believe that they are closely related of causing cervical cancer,
as well as the HPV vaccine and chemotherapy of cervical cancer, would be discussed.

IL 6 Induce Angiogenesis and Tumor Growth
In the cervical cancer cell, VEGF and interleukin 6(IL 6) are commonly found. IL 6 is used to
stimulate the immune response at first. But some research reveals that IL 6 accelerates the tumor
growth and formation of micro vascular network of red blood cell. IL 6 is a kind of pro
inflammatory cytokine which secreted by T cells and macrophages. IL 6 would activate VEGF

According to Hardin, Bertoni and Kleinsmith (2011), when the growth factor binds to receptor
protein which located on cell surface, it triggers the complex signal pathway, causes the division
of endothelial cell and secretion of matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs). In the cervical cancer cell,
MMP 2 and MMP 9 play the important roles on tumor invasion and metastasis. MMP 2 acts as a
proteinase for degradation of collagen. Collagen is the main component of basal membrane and

Les Florets
Post Negotiation Analysis Les Florets Entering Les Florets negotiation, I had set for myself
rules. Besides my will to buy the restaurant, I had some intermediary objectives to help reach my
goal. First, I needed to learn more about the seller s reasons to sell. This way I could offer her
different solutions to solve the situation. Second, I needed to be flexible, despite the limit of
$160,000. That meant I needed to maintain a margin in the negotiation around the price, and I
decided to start with a price of $140,000, saying since I am not usually in charge of buying new

My intent was simply to make sure she knew she needed an agreement with me, more than I did.
I needed her to believe that reaching an agreement with me was her best alternative. Obviously,
our price targets were different and unmatchable. She needed to have $190,000 and I could not
pay more than $160,000. Just making propositions and trying to be flexible on additional things
besides the price was not enough, because she thought she needed the money immediately. At
least, it was not enough until the seller knew she had no better alternative outside the one I was
able to offer. Also, I learned that although it may seem a lot better to maintain cordiality and an
atmosphere of trust during the negotiation, at some point, when it is not going anywhere, it might
be better to adopt a stronger position. Mainly, it had to be used to show the other party that even
if an agreement is profitable for both parties, there is a point of no return, that it is time to really
start looking for other solutions, more creative ones. After having established my position over the
seller, making new propositions was a lot easier. Also, she had realized that not reaching an
agreement with me meant that she could not pursue her life s dream, whereas reaching an
agreement with me made it possible for even if it meant having to delay for a few months.

Comparing Robinson And Paul Simon s Richard Cory
Richard Cory, the name used for the title of two thought provoking works, was a man whose
luxurious persona led the world from feelings of admiration to wide ranging envy. In both poems
by Edwin Arlington Robinson and Paul Simon, similar tones established esteem and praise towards
their subject. However, throughout these verses, both speakers also appeared to shift their
acknowledgments into a place of spite and jealously. As the reader began to unfold the nature of the
literary works, tones from worship, hardship, and bitterness are all keenly painted throughout the
speakers use of contrast, repetition, and negativity by the name Richard Cory.
Tone, or the attitude of the writer towards a subject, is depicted equally and similarly in both
poems. When each line is stripped and decoded in search for its meaning, similarities concerning
the approach of both speakers can be made. Both Robinson and Simon open by boasting Richard

Richard A. Clark, an expert in security sector governance in his book Cyber War (May 2010),

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Steel
In the late 19th century, the US Navy was falling behind the rest of the world when it came to the
use of new technology, so in 1883, legislation authorized the development of modern steel
warships. This move lead to the great battleships of WWII and even the ships that fight today. The
steel armor plating of these ships provides great strength and longevity that is needed for their jobs.
Steelis one of the most popular materials in the world due to its high strength and low cost. It is
used in many different objects and scenarios, from buildings, machines, and tools to weapons,
vehicles, and of course, ships. Steel also has different types, whether it be carbon steel, alloy steel,
or stainless steel. The primary type of steel used for battleships has been nickel steel, or an iron
nickel alloy. This stainless steel provides the best properties needed for battleships to last and work

Passions In Medea
In the ancient world, passions had a wider connotation than they do in the modern age. Passion in
the ancient world tended to have a negative connotation. Often, ancient passions led to sins or
unhappiness. In Greek mythology, divine beings could not control their passions as Euripides wrote
about in Medea. However, Buddhists see passions as undesirable, and they take steps to suppress
their passions to achieve enlightenment. Christianity instructs followers to control their passions,
however they do not restrict them to the extent that Buddhists do. Passions in the ancient religions
were urges which led people to commit sins, but some religions teach people methods to control

killing her children. At one point, she hesitated and decided I shall take my children with me, but
her passion was too strong for her to overcome. She went forward with her plan, and she refuses to
allow him to bury their children. As Medea had hoped, the loss of his children devastated Jason. The
plan worked the way Medea had intended, so she was understandably pleased. Medea s love for
Jason turned to heartbreak which led her to commit each of her murderous acts. She clearly
understood the magnitude of her actions as she revealed when she stated, I understand what evil I
am about to do but my wrath is stronger even than my thoughts. Her ability to recognize her
wrongs, yet still not stop herself shows that people could not expect the divine beings of Ancient
Greek mythology to control their passions.
Unlike Medea, Augustine s confessions provides directions for controlling passions as well as

Jack s Transformation In Lord Of The Flies Essay
As time progresses on the island without a real system of order, human nature takes over in many
of the boys, starting with Jack. Although it does not last, at the beginning of the novel even Jack
agrees with Ralph saying that they need to have rules and obey them (Golding 42). This helps
display the dramatic transformation the boys go through to eventually become full fledged savages.
Golding allows this transformation to happen in what seems like an unsettlingly fast amount of
time. It shows how quick humans can go from being functioning parts of society to savages that act
like animals without any regard for right and wrong. This makes one think about civilizationin
general. It raises the question of how close society as a whole is to falling apart. Most would say

1.Describe the environment in which you observed. Before you interacted with the agency s clients

these come from, and why do you think you have them?
For my ASL hours I observed two different environments. The first environment was an Adapted
Sports Night here at the University of Texas. Prior to arriving to the event a couple of
prejudgments I had was that, majority of the athletes there would be from recreational sport teams in
the area and that the games would be pretty simple to understand. Essentially, I thought that they
would show me how to play different sports and how they are adapted to their wheelchairs or their
particular disability. I believe that these assumptions came from not realizing that adapted sports is
more than just playing basketball or rugby in a basic wheelchair.
Sammy s house was the second environment in which I completed ASL hours at. Sammy s house
is a childcare center that provides inclusion of children without disabilities and children with
disabilities and medically fragile children. Upon my first day at Sammy s House I did not have
many prejudgments other than I expected that children who attended Sammy s house would be
composed of mainly disabled children. The reason I thought this was because I saw Sammy s

Fury is the latest movie from director David Ayer, who also directed the films: End of Watch,

now define fury as the uncontrollable rage of anger from a righteous man attempting to achieve
justice for the lost and the departed. In Fury a 5 man Sherman tank unit from the United States

advancing Nazi SS unit on a collision course with them. The M4 Sherman Tank was rushed into

The Effects Of Depression And Its Effects On People With...
In today s day and age, there are many things that can effect a person s personality and mood.
Relationships, careers, personal life, all those things are adversely effecting everyone.
Sometimes, these things can effect someone negatively and emotionally. The death of a loved
one, for example, could affect someone and cause them to feel grief. If not handled with
correctly, that grief could cause a person to sink into depression, until they would require outside
help to overcome it. Depression is a serious mental illness that effects day to day activities and
one s personal life, and serious matters need to be taken before it goes too far. Unfortunately,
experts today are more inclined to prescribe a pill to help people with depression, rather than
recommending psychotherapy, which has been proven for decades to help many individuals with
psychological problems. By now, it has gotten to a point in where drugs aren t even always being
prescribed for their intended use. Over half of the antidepressants prescribed to Americans in 2005
were for uses other than depression, which can greatly increase the already high risks to taking
psychiatric drugs (King 2012).
Antidepressants have been used for many decades and are often considered a miracle cure until a
complication arises. An antidepressant is used to treat mild to severe depression in most patients,
although many doctors prescribe it for other problems, such as eating disorders, obsessive

But with this answer comes another question: why would Shakespeare name the main character

There were two conspiracies against him during his ascension to the English throne in 1603, the
Bye Plot and Main Plot, and in 1605, there was the aforementioned Gunpowder Plot. Shakespeare
wrote Macbeth with dark themes to reflect on James reign as he was experiencing it. By relating
the tone of the history of 11th century Scotland to the tone of 17th century England,
Shakespeare is better able to imply his warning to James I that he might be killed because of
how weak he was as a monarch. To further increase the significance of his warning, Shakespeare
s writing style also changes during James reign compared to Elizabeth s reign. While
Shakespeare was creating more romantic and positive tragedies and comedies during the
Elizabethan era(such as A Midsummer Night s Dream and Romeo and Juliet), during the early
17th century, the Jacobean era, Shakespeare began writing darker tragedies such as Hamlet,
Othello, and Macbeth. Shakespeare s writing in the Jacobean era were more about how
persuasive corruption can ruin a hero and create a fatal flaw. One way a new historicist might

On Earthquakes Essay
On Earthquakes
An earthquake is a shaking or trembling of the crust of the earth caused by underground volcanic
action or by the breaking and shifting of rock beneath the surface. The volcanic action and
shifting rocks create strain which continues to build to a sudden release of pressure resulting in a
shock wave. The vibrations produced in the crust can vary from barely noticeable to enormously
destructive. Shock waves can be classified into two broad categories. Waves that send particles
oscillating back and forth in the same direction as the waves are traveling are called primary.
Primary waves, sometimes called compressional waves, travel through the earth beneath the crust.

The modern seismograph was invented early this century by a Russian seismologist, Prince Boris
Golitzyn. This device made possible the modern era of earthquake research.
Although earthquakes have occurred and affected mankind for as long as humans have been
around, historical records are either lacking or considered unreliable before the middle of the
18th century. However, some records do exist and date major earthquake events back to 425 BC
when one occurred off the coast of Greece resulting in an island named Euboea. Another occurred
in Asia Minor about AD 17 and another leveled much of the Roman city of Pompeii in AD 63.
During the Middle Ages, severe earthquakes struck England, in 1318; Naples, Italy, in 1456; and
Lisbon, Portugal, in 1531.
Casualties from major earthquakes have resulted in the greatest disasters in history. The worst
occurred in 1556 in the Shannxi (Shensi) Province in China and killed an estimated 800,000
people. During the 18th century, the Japanese city of Edo (site of modern day Tokyo) was struck
and killed 200,000. Earthquakes in Sicily in 1693 and Lisbon in 1755 each killed about 60,000
people. In 1797, approximately 40,000 died when Quito, Ecuador was struck.
Historically, the most powerful earthquakes to strike North America occurred in 1811 and 1812 in
southeastern Missouri. However, the most famous earthquake to strike in North America

Caliban As A Contemporary Allegory For Colonialism In...
Nearly four hundred years later and William Shakespeare s The Tempest is still subject to
ongoing contemporary literary critique and analysis. The potential intentions of Shakespeare s
characterization and rhetoric have elicited a response from many scholars including Debra Willis,
Christopher Pye, and Alden Vaughan who enter dialogue with a variety of different research from
the literary arts to social sciences, to postcolonial studies. These contribute to the preexisting field
of knowledge which this paper engages with in analyzing the characterization of Caliban (1.2) as it

Caliban s character through his initial interaction with Prospero and Miranda and his land claim of

Eisman, Lewis shows, has been the voice of conscience on Wall Street for some time, admitting
to the unconscionable whether the head of a large U.S. brokerage firm or the president of a
large Japanese real estate firm that their own dealings fail to make any sense. In the world, there
are two types of people, those who say yes and everything else you want to hear and those who
say the truth. Eisman, however, is the latter type. Vinny Daniel is another. Hired by Arthur
Andersen, his job as an accountant was to account audit the big Wall Street firms, in other
words. In theory, that is what his job was supposed to be. In reality, his job was to rubber stamp
and approve all that such firms set before him. There is regulation in Wall Street. It is just easily
gotten around. People like Vinny Daniel are the ones who clog up the works: He concluded that
there was effectively no way for an accountant assigned to audit a giant Wall Street firm to figure
out whether it was making money or losing money (Lewis 11).

The Reinforcement of Racial Hierarchies in Morrison s The...
Race and racial hierarchies are reinforced through the proliferation of a predominant, societal, white
aesthetic and through the perceptions associated with physical characteristics. In The Bluest Eye,
Toni Morrison first illustrates the reinforcement of racial hierarchies through the proliferation of a
predominant, societal white aesthetic by recounting passages from the Dick and Janebooks, a
standardization of family life. Next, The Black Arts Movementby Larry Nealdemonstrates the
reinforcement of racial hierarchies through the proliferation of a white aesthetic by discussing how
Black culture, including Black art, is in danger if the white aesthetic is accepted by Black artists.

These books, with their simplistic two and three word sentences, were widely used to teach all
children how to read and suggested that the lifestyle of Dick and Jane was typical and standard.
But, the Dick and Jane lifestyle was certainly not the typical lifestyle for Claudia, Pecola or
either of their families. So, that lifestyle was presumed to be the typical white lifestyle.
Furthermore, the lifestyle of Dick and Jane was obviously viewed as superior to a sad, broken,
difficult family life, similar to what Claudia and Pecola were accustomed, so white lifestyles in
general were viewed as superior. Consequently, exposure to this white aesthetic, especially at an
early age, would create, proliferate and reinforce a racial hierarchy.
In The Black Arts Movement, Larry Neal also discusses how a racial hierarchy is reinforced
through the proliferation of a predominant, societal, white aesthetic. Neal says that, there are in fact
and in spirit two Americas one black, one white. (Neal 2039). Further, Neal discusses the danger of
not counteracting the white way of thinking, trumpeting the need for a Black aesthetic. The motive
behind the Black aesthetic is the destruction of the white thing, the destruction of white ideas, and
white ways of looking at the world. (Neal 2040). Neal s adamancy concerning the need for a Black
aesthetic confirms his belief in the existence and power of a predominant, societal, white

Death Is A Bit Taboo
The idea of death is a bit taboo, however it is the unspoken reality of life. Naturally, there comes a
time when you will no longer be a part of the ever evolving world physically and it will be your
time to die. The question that has arisen is whether or not an individual s unbearable pain should
constitute them to request death. A person should not have to be hooked up to machines in order to
be kept alive, if that is not what they want; they should be able to choose death.
Perhaps when Patrick Henry stated, Give me liberty or give me death he was not referring to
assisted suicide but the principles still remain the same. Our society was built on the principles of
life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; lying in a bed while incapacitated is not living, freedom
or happiness. The idea of assisted suicide is to permanently end the suffering of an individual after
every other opinion has been exhausted and it allows the patient to take control of their lives. When
an individual becomes terminally ill many options regarding their health is placed in the doctor s
hands and the individual s family s hands, leaving the sick patient without control over their body
and over their life. When the patient loses control regarding their healthcare and their health
continues to decline without improvement, the thought of suicide rises because the individual
wants to simply escape their pain and suffering. However, due to the fact that in many states
assisted suicide is illegal,

Censorship Filters The Media Within The World
Does censorship filter the media within the world? Censorship has followed the free expressions of
men and women like a shadow throughout history. Censorship is a way to filter the media in the
world by suppressing unacceptable viewings or hearings by not showing, bleeping out, and
covering the distasteful parts. In ancient societies, China for example, censorshipwas considered a
logical tool for regulating the political and moral life of the population. The term censor can be
traced to the office of censor established in Rome i 443 BC. In Rome, in the ancient Greek
communities, the thought of good governance included shaping the character of the people,
although, censorship was regarded as a righteous task. In China, the first censorship law was
introduced in 300 AD. Censorship is a healthy way of teaching the world, helps control the influx of
information and ideas in society and compresses the violence within the world.
Though freedom of speech is legal within the United States of America, all things said, shown, or
expressed are not always appropriate. In most cases, inappropriate speech and/or acts lead to
illegal acts or urge others to. For example, if someone witnesses a scene, is a part of a scene or
hears about it, most will want to converse about it or take part in it creating chaotic controversy.
However, more severe forms have led to people or groups such as the Ku Klux Klan being denied
certain marching permits or the Westboro Baptist Church being sued,

St Marys entered the Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield this season, and there was some
unknown on how they would perform given they did not participate in either competition last year.
Players such as Bryce Cartwright, Peter Wallace, the Puletua s, and Michael Jennings played for
the club as juniors, with former NRL player, Geoff Daniela, playing in the Ron Massey Cup side.
In what is a fantastic achievement for the club, both teams are just one win away their respective
Grand Finals, having successfully earned a spot in the Preliminary Finals with victories this
weekend. To the Intrust Super Premiership NSW, Mounties continued their dominance season in

Western Suburbs will play Guildford next week, who knocked out the Auburn Warriors, despite
the fact that Auburn finished ahead of them on the ladder. Mounties Sydney Shield victim this
week, the Belrose Eagles, will take on the East Campbelltown Eagles next week after defeating
Cabramatta 38 26. It was an entertaining finish to the game, with the eighth placed Cabramatta
side having a two point lead with only nine minutes remaining in the match. A quick fire double
to Craig Moustakas, plus a try to Ben Baker nudged the Eagles back in front, and will have
another chance next week, while Cabramatta s season is over. The other Sydney Shield team to
play their final match of 2016 was the Guildford Owls, who went down in a high scoring 46 30
affair against the Wentworthville Magpies It was the Mackenzie s who dominated the scoresheet,
with Karrol Joe bagging a hat trick and Cecil scoring two more for the Magpies. They will play the

Growing Income Inequality
Response to What growing income inequality is costing Canada s future generations In response
to the article, some the information was new but a lot of it not surprising. It was surprising,
however, to read that although Mr. Naets is somewhat more educated and most likely in a
higher tax bracket than his parents were, his standard of living is a lot lower than that of his
parents. That is alarming only because we have a lot more opportunities available to us through
networking or technology and on a scale that was never available to our parents. Also in Mr.
Naets case, he and his wife earn well above the national average which is also alarming because
you would think that someone in such a position would not be as worried as someone of the
opposite spectrum. It is discerning to think that no matter how hard we strive to for a better life,
we will always feel that is not enough. In addition, we feel that people feel as if they are entitled
to more than what our parents had. We have so much more unnecessary items easily accessible to
the average person. Smart phones for one, everyone feels as if they need a smartphone... Show more

  • 2. Effects Of Socialisation In South Africa During the Apartheid era of oppression, Steve Biko explains in the 1970s that the black people of South Africa were treated unfairly, to the extent to which their African identities were stolen due to forced socialisation. The Apartheid government put in structures which purposefully taught these Africans that their sole purpose was to serve subserviently to white South Africans, taking away their culture and distancing them from their history. They achieved this my means of altering their education, political privilege and spiritual poverty. Each of these aspects were altered by the Apartheid government which contributed to the changed identity of the black South Africans. The Apartheid political system was designed in such a way that black people were taught that their cultures were, in fact, incorrect. From when they were born, they were taught of an adapted culture which suited white people. This process of forced culture was abuse of socialisation; everything one learns from when they are born which contributes to their personality and personal history. Steve Biko describes that he was purely brought up in separate development, and that his entire life was shaped by it. Depending on one s socialisation, the view of how you view yourself and others around you is formed, this is identity. It can even be said that the identities of the black were stolen from them, because identity means that we are all different, but the Apartheid system took away the uniqueness of the black culture and taught them all to learn and believe the same thing. The way in which the black people of South Africa were socialised, was to make them believe that the only purpose in life was to be a servant to white people. • 5. Chemical and Biological Uses of Weapons of Mass Destruction Chemical and Biological Uses of WMD The threat by terrorist groups in using Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) has increased significantly in the recent years. Preventing the creation and the utilization of these deadly weapons as well as their delivery systems and reducing those already in existence, has become of extreme importance to the government. Certain weapons of mass destruction, such as chemical and biological, are easier to acquire but much harder to detect. For that reason, they should be the highest priority. Predicting when and how an attack will occur, involving chemical or biological weapons, is not 100 percent possible; however, individuals should not ignore the possibility of such an attack happening here on American soil. In the past, there have been attacks involving Sarin gas, such as the Tokyo Subway attack, and just recently, the Sarin nerve agent use in Syria. Terrorist have the capability to use chemical WMD and have shown that they are willing to use this method in warfare. In addition, military biological WMD programs discovered in Iraq and Russia show that there is a definite biological threat as well. Preparing America to face this threat head on is a daunting task, but lacking preparedness could have devastating consequences beyond comprehension. Agencies, such as public health organizations, must be prepared to prevent illness and injuries resulting from biological and chemical terrorism, especially with a concealed attack by a terrorist. ... • 6. The Role Of Independent Agencies And The White House Staff... The modern American presidency is defined as the presidency s transition to the center of American governance. Distinct from typically passive and isolated presidencies during the 18th and 19th centuries, the modern American presidency of the mid 20th century set the use of power and popularity as precedence. The transition to the modern presidency can be understood through the development of the presidency s institutional, international, and perceptual identity. In this essay, I will argue that the increasing role of independent agencies and the White Housestaff that spearheaded executive policymaking led to a significant institutional change to the presidency. I will also argue America s expanding international function in response to globalization placed the presidency, responsible for foreign policy, in a newly found position to exercise power. Finally, I will argue that the public perception of the presidency as a living reality (Reedy, p. 10) shifted it from a peripheral political entity to one at the center of policy discussion and leadership. In this essay, I will present examples of the modern presidency in the attributes of administrations from Franklin D. Rooseveltthrough John F. Kennedy, as well as evaluate scholarly models that contextualize how attributes of these administrations shaped the modern presidency, such as John Burke s Institutional Presidency, Aaron Wildavsky s Two Presidencies, and George Reedy s American Monarchy. Monthly binary dummy covers from January to November and does not include dummy for December to avoid dummy variable trap. We assume that individual error components are uncorrelated with each other. Multicollinearity occurs when two or more predictors in the model are correlated and provide redundant information about the response. That is, a multiple regression model with correlated predictors can indicate how well the entire bundle of predictors predicts the outcome variable, but it may not give valid results about any individual predictor, or about which predictors are redundant with respect to others. Consequences of high multicollinearity is that increase in standard error of estimates of the b s so that decrease in reliability (Farrar and Glauber 1967). In case of perfect multicollinearity the predictor matrix is singular and therefore cannot be inverted. Under these circumstances, the ordinary least squares estimator b =(X X) 1X y does not exist. To detect multicollinearity, we calculate the variance inflation factors for each predictors in RHS (Mansfield and Helms 1982). The VIF (variance inflation factors) for each predictor xj is: VIFj = 1/( 1в€’R2j). R2j is the coefficient of determination of the model that includes all predictors except the jth predictor. • 8. Music In The Romantic Era Following the Pre Classical and Classical periods, a new, very distinctive style of music emerged. The Romantic Era Lasted from the year 1820 up until the year 1900. The Romantic Era consisted of composers taking a more unique and expressive style of music. Hector Berlioz, Fryderyck Chopin, and Robert Schumann are considered to be the most influential composers of the Romantic Era. Nationalism and Exoticism played a very big part of musicexpression during this period. Both, Art song and German Lieder music styles were invented and told stories in a musical form. These three composers helped shape this era through the use of the pianoand the use of a more supernatural realm style of music. Hector Berlioz was born in the year 1803 in France. At the age of twenty two he left his career to pursue his musical career. He went on to composing his first symphony at the age of twenty seven. Hector was highly criticized in his homeland France for his music. It was very painful for hector to be rejected from the musical community and deemed as a laughing stock. After receiving the negative reviews of his music, he stated, I belong to a nation which has ceased to be interested in the nobler manifestations of intelligence, and whose only deity is the golden calf. • 13. Masculinity In Old Spice Some say that it grants what it truly promises, others say it is only our imagination. The portrayal of masculinity and manliness are quite prevalent in most of the old spice ads. Given the obvious scope of the ad, which is to sell the product, the ad seems to portray other things. Masculinity shows itself in the ad through different mannerisms. The appearance of the man, the behavior the man is seen to have, and the sexuality. The Smell Like A Man ad is seen to portray two different ideals. One of which promotes the viewer to want to become a masculine man. The other, however, lays claim that the product will help in achieving this form of masculinity, not in a physical sense but in a mental sense. The most portrayed ideals in the Old Spice ads are dominance, strength, and competitiveness of the manly figure. The ad is somewhat targeted towards women to buy their partner old spice in order for him to become a man. That is shown when the character states that Your man can smell like a man if he uses Old Spice (Old Spice). The sense of domination over the man watching the ad is obvious. The man in the ad is physically fit and shows that through his confidence when he tells the women, who are also watching, to look back at me (Old Spice). Following that up with a statement that separates the man in the ad from the man watching claiming that he is not like me (Old Spice). As I walked, I realize that there was only one whole food market. Meanwhile, a McDonald s and Kentucky Fried Chicken were seen on multiple corners. These same communities have now become so westernized that they neglect the traditional side of diet. Instead, everyone now focus on the new fast food market. Justice should be defined for the sake of all people, especially by rulers who attempt to make fair laws so that their society functions in an orderly fashion. In Book 1 of The Republic, Plato attempts to define exactly what justice is. To help determine this definition, he speaks through the philosopher protagonist of Socrates. The Republic presents two very different views of justice as argued by two skilled thinkers. The beginning of the discussion starts off with Thrasymachus explaining what exactly he believes justice is; justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger. (338c) Although Thrasymachus definition is clear, Socrates attempts to spite him by using a wild comparison, by saying If Polydamamas, the pancratiast, is stronger than we are and beef is advantageous for his body, then this food is also advantageous and just for us who are weaker than he is. (338c) This statement from Socrates disgusts Thrasymachus because Thrasymachus was simply referring to stronger in the sense of being a ruler, not strong in the sense of being physically larger. To counter Socrates, Thrasymachus explains how different societies are ruled throughout the world whether it be tyrannically, democratically, or otherwise, and how the rulers, those who are strongest, are the ones who make the laws and they do so to their advantage. Thrasymachus establishes this by saying how, A democracysets down democratic laws; a tyranny, tyrannic laws; and the others do the same. IL 6 is a kind of pro inflammatory cytokine which secreted by T cells and macrophages. IL 6 would activate VEGF dependent angiogenesis process, thus blood vessel can be easily formed the cancer cell and enter circulatory system through lymph node or capillary. Also, I learned that although it may seem a lot better to maintain cordiality and an atmosphere of trust during the negotiation, at some point, when it is not going anywhere, it might be better to adopt a stronger position. Mainly, it had to be used to show the other party that even if an agreement is profitable for both parties, there is a point of no return, that it is time to really start looking for other solutions, more creative ones. After having established my position over the seller, making new propositions was a lot easier. Naturally, there comes a time when you will no longer be a part of the ever evolving world physically and it will be your time to die. The question that has arisen is whether or not an individual s unbearable pain should constitute them to request death. A person should not have to be hooked up to machines in order to be kept alive, if that is not what they want; they should be able to choose death. Perhaps when Patrick Henry stated, Give me liberty or give me death he was not referring to assisted suicide but the principles still remain the same. Our society was built on the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; lying in a bed while incapacitated is not living, freedom or happiness. The idea of assisted suicide is to permanently end the suffering of an individual after every other opinion has been exhausted and it allows the patient to take control of their lives. When an individual becomes terminally ill many options regarding their health is placed in the doctor s hands and the individual s family s hands, leaving the sick patient without control over their body and over their life. When the patient loses control regarding their healthcare and their health continues to decline without improvement, the thought of suicide rises because the individual wants to simply escape their pain and suffering. However, due to the fact that in many states assisted suicide is illegal, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though freedom of speech is legal within the United States of America, all things said, shown, or expressed are not always appropriate. In most cases, inappropriate speech and/or acts lead to illegal acts or urge others to. For example, if someone witnesses a scene, is a part of a scene or hears about it, most will want to converse about it or take part in it creating chaotic controversy. However, more severe forms have led to people or groups such as the Ku Klux Klan being denied certain marching permits or the Westboro Baptist Church being sued, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Growing Income Inequality Response to What growing income inequality is costing Canada s future generations In response to the article, some the information was new but a lot of it not surprising. It was surprising, however, to read that although Mr. Naets is somewhat more educated and most likely in a higher tax bracket than his parents were, his standard of living is a lot lower than that of his parents. That is alarming only because we have a lot more opportunities available to us through networking or technology and on a scale that was never available to our parents. Also in Mr. Naets case, he and his wife earn well above the national average which is also alarming because you would think that someone in such a position would not be as worried as someone of the opposite spectrum. It is discerning to think that no matter how hard we strive to for a better life, we will always feel that is not enough. In addition, we feel that people feel as if they are entitled to more than what our parents had. We have so much more unnecessary items easily accessible to the average person.
