The Mexican American War, Spanish Guerra De 1847
The Mexican American War The Mexican War, Spanish Guerra de 1847, or Guerra do Estados Unidos
a Mexico, are different names for the Mexican American War. Many incidents happened even before
the war officially began. Eisenhower simply and bluntly stated: The fact is that Mexico stood in the
way of the American dream of Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was just one of the causes that
pushed us to war with Mexico. The first battle was at Palo Alto, a fort that was in the disputed zone.
There were many battles in 2 years. The war finally grasped an end when Mexico signed a treaty in
Mexico City. With the treaty, U.S and Mexico were able to reach terms. Each proceedings that
happened, brought on the war that lasted from 1846 1848 and then ended with the U.S as victors.
Prior to the Mexican American War, there were many events that lead to the cause of the war. For
many years, Americans and Mexicans had very little direct contact, because they were separated by
huge tracts of undeveloped territory. However, in the 19th century, the U.S began to rapidly expand
westward. By 1819, U.S had gained the Louisiana Territory and also the Arkansas and Missouri
Territories, which bordered Mexican lands. American settlers began to pour into these territories. Then
they began to illegally enter the sparsely inhabited Mexican territories of California, New Mexico and
Texas. Mexico saw U.S expansion as a threat. A man by the name of Stephen Austin made a deal with

Organizational Change Is Significant To An Organization
Organizational change is significant to an organization as it can change the success of an organization,
remove specific job practices or functions, alter policies and procedures, and change the way an
organization operates (managementhelp.org). Organizational change efforts should improve the
performance of an organization as well as the people in the organization (Campbell, 2014).
To begin an organizational change, a change agent should understand the culture of organization,
which reflects in its norms and practices. This can include understanding the systems and structures in
the organization, including their terms and roles. This also applies to understanding the leadership and
management of the organization (Campbell, 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The steps to unfreezing includes: determining what needs to be changed, ensuring strong management
is in place, determining why change needs to occur, and understanding and empathizing with the
concerns and doubts of employees (mindtools.com) The change stage follows next as it is where
members of the organization begin to resolve their uncertainties and believe in the change and new
direction.
This step takes some time as members want to know how the change benefits them. It is important that
organizations understand that time and communication are both important to the change process
(mindtools.com). As communication is encouraged, it opens the door for employee involvement. The
final stage of refreeze takes place once the changes are established and the members of the
organization are aligned and have accepted the new ways of working.
The refreeze stage involves identifying what supports the change and what affects those changes,
developing ways to uphold those changes, and providing adequate training to adequately sustain those
changes (mindtools.com). There are different types of internal and external organizational changes.
These changes include structural, strategic, process oriented and people centered (cliffnotes.com).
People centered changes focus on the attitudes, behaviors, skills, and performance of employees
in an organization (cliffnotes.com). It also can enhance the communication between

Analysis of the Arab Spring Essay
In late 2010, a Tunisian named Bouazizi set himself on fire in protest against the poor economic
situation in which he was living (CNN, 2011). Other Tunisians soon took the opportunity to resist their
government and possible overthrow the leadership of Ben Ali. They took it as their responsibility to
fight for the common good. Simple demonstration against the Tunisian government soon went ahead
to an extent that Ben Ali had to leave the country. The events that followed the departures of the
Tunisian president were the least expected. The revolts in Tunisia spurred citizens of other Arab
nations to revolt against their governments. By the end of the years 2011, the Arab spring had claimed

it was dictatorial. Besides, the people surrounding Mubarak were so powerful that talking negatively

The government of Mubarak initiated several techniques aimed at restoring normalcy and preventing

On the Shoulder s of Giants: The Role of Connections in Developing Intelligence
Abstract
This paper provides motivation for making connections between unrelated events as a basis for
intelligence. The ability to apply this extended information as a problem solving technique instantiates
the true nature of intelligence. Therefore, it is obvious the field of artificial intelligence should use the
same approach. The way these connections are made and the occasional necessity for their
modification is discussed. Examples are given showing the use of connections between linguistics and
sociocultural systems studies and between engineering design and nature. Next, several examples
connecting artificial intelligence with computer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Susan connected her falling during the biking accident to the doll falling. Sentient beings use these
connections as one method of developing intelligence. Therefore, it stands to reason artificial
intelligence researchers rely on these connections to forward study in the field. Connections have been
found to exist between linguistics and sociocultural systems studies and engineering and nature. Also,
connections exist between artificial intelligence and computer programming, mathematics, astronomy,
and engineering. Researchers in artificial intelligence themselves have varied backgrounds. This,
however, is not unique to the field. History shows a precedence for connectionist activity in many of
the great discoverers of the past. Therefore, researchers in artificial intelligence are expected to
continue the practice of drawing from other disciplines in their quest to develop artificial intelligence.
Early Connections: The Role of Experience
Leonardo da Vinci said: all our knowledge finds its origins in our perceptions (Willis, p. 47). Just like
falling off a bike, experiences form one s perception of how the world functions into a term called folk
physics (Bechtel, p. 72). These workings can then be applied to new problems. Tackling new problems
using previous solutions or experiences and applying this information to unrelated problems is known
as analogy in problem solving (Andrew, p. 7). Sometimes these analogies are incorrect, but

Davy Crockett s Accomplishments
Davy Crockett became a larger than life figure in our country. Crockett grew up in east Tennessee
where he spent his childhood. He then spent time as a Congressman and later after losing his seat, he
moved to Texas. Crockett s most well known achievement however, came from his death at the Alamo
where he helped defend against Santa Anna. Crockett died fighting for our country, and this helped
himself gain fame after he had passed from this earth. In a journal written by Paula Marks, she
explains the importance Crockett had in Texas. Her story Davy Crockett, Texas, and Shared Ideas tells
the reader several different important aspects of Crockett s life. In her story, Marks states that Texas
built a museum honoring Crockett and Texas. The museum reflects his career as a frontiersman as well

Descriptive Essay About Ice Skating
As quickly as possible, I ripped open the present that lay in my hands. I couldn t seem to open this
marvelous thing fast enough! The cold, crisp, December air blew from the front door passing by,
leaving a frigid feel to the house. It was my eleventh birthday in the year 1972, and there I held in my
very own hands, my first pair of ice skates. White as the snow outside my door they were, and a
glorious delight filled the air with the excitement over this special gift. I looked over and saw my
Mom glaring at my Grandma. Why on earth would she be mad about such a thrilling present? It was
such an obvious stare, that it almost seemed like my Mom wanted to demolish my skating career
before it even started. That had been two years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I put on my skates, and started gliding across the lake. Happiness flowed around me, and I felt the
crisp, winter feel of the snow. The weather conditions were perfect for ice skating, better than the
abominable harsh winds and copious amounts of snow from last week. I was in my own world, gliding
around on the glistening ice, when I suddenly saw a figure standing right beside the ice rink. My mind
froze just as cold as it was outside. I quickly realized that this person standing right beside me was my
Mother. I quickly ran over to her, and took off my skates. I then gave my Mom an aberrant face,
already knowing she was mad. The whole walk home was in silence, and my Mom was clearly irate.
When we got to our house, my Mom opened the front door, and I quickly went inside. Before I could
even think of what to say to her, she started talking. She asked me why I had disobeyed her, breaking
her trust and going against her rules. I screamed back, asking her why she never let me go ice skating,
and was always making excuses for me not to go. What started as a small argument, turned into a
colossal fight. This continued on for about ten minutes, each of us blaming each other for the fight that
went on between us. Finally, she asked me if I really wanted to know why she never let me go ice
skating. I quickly nodded my head, and listened to her story. She started off by

The Lunar Phase
The phases of the moon, relative to the Earth and Sun, are collectively called the Lunar Phase, and are
a 29.5 day cycle there a four main phases; new moon (1st quarter), half moon (2nd quarter), full moon
(3rd quarter) and another half moon (4th quarter). The phases of the moon occur because the moon
reflects the light of the sun, and we, on Earth, see the reflected light; as the moon orbits the Earth, the
amount of Sun that the Moon reflects changes.
Any phase of the moon, from the new moon to the full moon, is described as Waxing, whilst any

What is a regulation?
One thing all US banks have in common is that they are all financial institutions regulated by the

The optimum word here is, regulate. A word, which by itself, without a noun to precede it, means to
adjust by rule, method or established mode, as to regulate our manners by the customary forms; to put
in good order, as to regulate the disordered state of a nation or its finances; to subject to rules or

Currently, venture capital (VC) funding trends for FinTech and the developments in large categories
such as wealth management, blockchain, remittance tech, and insurance tech, certainly do seem to be
in the process of changing the face of payments and the contemporary relationship that the payments
industry has with banks.
In the aforementioned article, Dan Ciporin, general partner at Canaan Partners, is reported as saying
The future of banking lies in adopting more advanced tech like open APIs and tech enabled loan
underwriting.
If they don t adapt, big banks are at risk of becoming utilities, like Verizon ... dumb pipes, said
Ciporin, speaking at CB Insights Future of Fintech Conference held in New York back in June of this

The future of banking lies in open systems, he said, which banks are simply unable to create. I just
don t think the DNA is there to do it, he added. In Ciporin s view, consumer facing FinTech startups
have arisen naturally out of the limitations in banking operations. If you think about the structure of
how banks make money, on some level they store money at extraordinarily low rates and lend it out
usually on the credit card side at extraordinarily high rates, so if you can find a way to lower that

Compare And Contrast Cherokee And Comanche
People often ask, How did the world begin? . Some argue the Big Bang Theory, others argue God
created Earth Himself. Most Native Americans, however, generally believed their world stemmed
from multiple gods, animals, or a phenomenon of nature. Each creation myth was tailored to each
individual tribe s culture, customs, and beliefs. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to compare and
analyze the creation stories of two prominent Native American tribes present in Texas: the Comanche
and the Apache; warrior tribes that rode fiercely on horseback, and both competed to dominate the
Great Plains. These two tribes were fairly similar in their military prowess, but both had a different

Theme Of Bravery In IM Not Scared
The film Life is Beautiful directed by Roberto Benigni and Niccolò Ammaniti s film I m not Scared
explore the theme of bravery of their protagonists in their comparatively dissimilar settings. The 1997
Italian film Life is Beautiful follows the life of a charming man who uses his humor to win over the
woman of his dreams and bravely save his family from the tragedy in Italy during the Second World
War. Also set in the late 1970s in rural southern Italy, the film I m not Scared encompasses
imprisonment and the developing friendship of Michele and Filippo who is kidnapped for ransom.
Filippo is chained up and hungry when Michelle discovers him in a pit near an abandoned house and
he helps the boy out. Bravery is prominently explored in both texts through dialogue, colour, and
setting.
Benigni and Ammaniti present bravery through the dialogue presented by the protagonists Guido and
Michele. The dialogue that Guido speaks reveals plenty about his personality and nature and gives the
audience a firm understanding of his character. The beginning of the film presents a lot of humor and
the audience is introduced to a fairytale like story. Guido constantly uses his wit and comedic nature to
impress his lover Dora, and often on their encounters he enthusiastically exclaims Buongiorno
Princess! By referring to Dora as a princess illustrates that Guido believes she is perfect and seeing as
he repeatedly says this phrase also conveys his ability to appear when least expected. Despite the
transition in the film to a completely different setting and situation, dialogue plays a key role in
communicating to the audience Guido s ability to lift the hopes and provide ongoing love and sacrifice
for those around him. When Guido and son Joshua are separated from Dora at the concentration camp
they shout Buongiorno Princess! into the microphone. A reaction shot is then used to show Dora s
familiarity with these words and her understanding that her husband and son are alive. The use of this
common greeting is effective in this film because it conveys that despite the sudden change of lifestyle
for Guido and his family, Guido s personality ensures his humor and devotion are expressed until the
very end of the film which shows

Freud Developmental Stages
According to our text, Freud believed in five stages of psychosexual development which he termed
oral, anal, phallic, latent, and genital. These stages were important developmental milestones that
individuals needed to successfully pass through without becoming stuck. Freud believed that specific
behavioral occurrences could be traced back to a specific stage in which the person became fixated
(Friedman Schustack, 2012, p. 68). I will focus on the two stages where one might say Lohan became
fixated: The oral stage, and the genital stage. In the oral stage infants become driven to satisfy their
desires to be fed and they relieve the tension by breast or bottle feeding (Friedman Schustack, 2012, p.

Abstract
Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) remains a big drawback within the hospital setting, with
terribly high morbidity, mortality, and cost. Some people tend to perform an evidence based review of
the literature that specializes in clinically relevant pharmacological and non pharmacological
interventions to prevent VAP. Thanks to the importance of this condition the implementation of
preventive measures is predominant within the care of mechanically ventilated patients. There is proof
that these measures decrease the incidence of VAP and improve outcomes within the intensive care
unit. A multidisciplinary approach, continuing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
VAP has been seen to cause up to 71% of hospital pneumonia deaths. According to Koenig (2006),
Ventilator associated pneumonia is defined as pneumonia occurring more than 48 hours after patients
have been intubated and received mechanical ventilation. Diagnosing VAP requires a high clinical
suspicion combined with bedside examination, radiographic examination, and microbiologic analysis
of respiratory secretions. Aggressive surveillance is vital in under standing local factors leading to
VAP and the microbiologic milieu of a given unit. Judicious antibiotic usage is essential, as resistant
organisms continue to plague intensive care units and critically ill patients. Simple nursing and
respiratory therapy interventions for prevention should be adopted. (para.2) VAP has two types, early
on set (within the first 48 hours), and late on set VAP (after 90 hours). VAP will usually appear within
the first 48 hours after intubation. Diagnosis of VAP can sometimes be very difficult. The usual and
best way to diagnose VAP is to have a portable chest radiograph performed. According to Koenig
(2006),
While the portable chest radiograph still remains a mandatory component in the diagnosis of
ventilated patients with suspected pneumonia, as with clinical criteria for diagnosing VAP, it too has
problems with both sensitivity and specificity. Poor quality films further compromise the accuracy of
chest X rays.

Analysis Of The Article Gold Kiwifruit Consumed With An...
Introduction
In this paper the article entitled Gold kiwifruit consumed with an iron fortified breakfast cereal meal
improves iron status in women with low iron stores: a 16 week randomised controlled trial by Beck et
al., 2010 will be critically appraised. This article investigates whether women s Fe status could be
improved by consuming a Fe fortified breakfast cereal and milk with gold kiwifruit (high in ascorbic
acid, lutein and zeaxanthin) compared with consuming the same breakfast with banana (low in
ascorbic acid, lutein and zeaxanthin) with low Fe stores, each day for 16 days. Iron deficiency is a
common health problem with symptoms such as fatigue, lack of concentration, weakness, headache,
and increased risk of infection. Women are at greatest risk of developing iron deficiency due to
monthly menstrual blood loss and increased needs during pregnancy. A Fe fortified breakfast cereal
that enhances absorption and improves Fe status is an easy approach to address iron deficiency and its
symptoms in women. A critical evaluation of the study to show its validity is therefore useful.

Group Climate Essay examples
Group Climate
Group climate consists of the overall sentiment that is displayed within a group. This includes the
aspects of honesty, openness, consistency and respect according to Teamwork by Lefasto and Larson.
When evaluating the characteristics of group climate in a team, the most prevalent component to
examine is trust. Trust yields respect, acknowledgement, cohesiveness, a bridge between cultural
differences and above all else, sensitivity to ideas being expressed so a consensus can be reached.
However, as pointed out by Teamwork , trust is extremely fragile. If trust can be maintained and not
breached, a team has defeated one of the few obstacles that inhibit the team from attaining their
ultimate goal. This is because trust ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, establishing mutual and interesting grounds for completing the task at hand will
hopefully promote such zeal. If these two ingredients exist, then the other aspects of trust should fall
into place. Members should be eager to attend meetings, contribute ideas and prepare delegated
assignments.
In order to evaluate group climate and the level of trust present, we devised this tool (refer to climate
tool). By using this tool, we specifically examined different aspects of what we considered beneficial
criteria to effective group climate and detrimental criteria to effective group climate. The tool was
divided into two sections in order to evaluate both good and bad displays of climate by individual
members, as opposed to, simply measuring all positive aspects and not taking into account harmful
communication. Team members were graded by subtracting their detrimental points accrued from
their beneficial points. A maximum score would have been a 24.
While Aaron clearly contributed the most to his group and scored the highest on beneficial points with
a 23, he wound up scoring third highest on the total score after losing points for, creating tension,
occasionally blocking ideas by insisting on specific goals, and not always staying 100% on task. The
point being made is that, in order to fully help a group s climate, it extremely important to
acknowledge that while it is necessary to make beneficial contributions, one must bear in mind that it
is still

Information Systems Security Review
Information Systems Security Review
Introduction
Information systems have three parts which include hardware, software and the communications
aspect. This view of Information systems is useful in applying industry standards for protection as
well as prevention at all layers (Spagnoletti and Resca, 2008). Procedures will tell the personnel
operating, or the administrators, how the products would ensure organizational information security.
Information System implies information that requires protection from improper access, disclosure, or
destruction (Spagnoletti and Resca, 2008). This is possible if the system ensures availability,
confidentiality, as well as integrity of any data in an organization. Corporations, financial institutions,
and governments have a lot of information on products, finances, research, and employees. This
information usually resides in electronic media and may move from one point to another. Furthermore,
with the advances in networks, transmission to other computers or access points within a physical
location or across the globe is possible. Any breach of the information may have far reaching
consequences such as bankruptcy, loss of competitive edge or lawsuits from customers or business
partners (Mithas et al, 2011). It is, therefore, imperative to ensure Information Security.

Essay On High School Dropouts
Every twenty six seconds a student drops out of high school and every day 7,200 students drop out of
high school in the United States. Which unfortunately leads to 3,03,000 students dropping out of high
school in the United States each year. Teenagers dropping out of high school has been a widely
discussed topic in America, with people debating whether high schoolers should be required to stay in
school until they are eighteen. As president, Barack Obama, made efforts to lower the number of
dropouts, by creating new laws that encourage students to finish school and graduate, earning their
diploma. Earning your diploma will allow you to use prior knowledge to create educated decisions,
fret from the number of risks that dropping out may result in, and will open the doors to a world full of
opportunity. At the end of 2015, the total dropout rate was 5.9%, which suggests that our country
should strive to lower the number of dropouts, by requiring students to receive their high school
diplomas.
Requirements of a successful adulthood include the abilities: problem solving, responsibility, and

Essay on Imperialism
Imperialism is often excused as a way of liberating people from tyrannical rule or by introducing the
policies of a better way of life. It is based on the ground of a variety of causes running the gamut of
economic pressures, greed, security, power, prestige, religion, and many other effective measures that
can be taken given the circumstances. Arguments about the roots and virtue of imperialism can be put
into four basic groups. The first is whether or not imperialism is economically beneficial. The second
relates to the social aspect of imperialism and the natural desire to rule others. The third is protection
and security, building up military powers around the world in order to help the main country when

Britain had feared that they would be cut off and India would be taken from them. Keeping India was
essential to Britain s survival as an empire, without which they would be just another European nation.
To solve this problem, Britain gained control of the Suez Canal, then eventually the entirety of Egypt.
Another country needed in order to protect India was South Africa. Its port at Cape Town was an
essential stop for all people en route to India. When gold and diamonds were later discovered in other
parts of South Africa, Britain fought and annexed all of South Africa. At this time, neither Germany
nor Italy was unified and France was busy fighting with Prussia. The European powers really had no
interest in external affairs for the time. 1871 changed everything. Germany and Italy were unified and
France had just lost the Alsace Lorraine to the Germans.
The French were the first to begin the annexation of Africa, mostly because they wanted to restore
their lost sense of national pride. Because both Germany and France went for Africa, the English were
suddenly faced with the fear of competition. An economic slump in Europe in the 1880s caused
markets to become even scarcer than they were to begin with. In a futile attempt to right themselves as
an empire, Britain began taking over land in Africa. After all, land in Africa was quite cheap. It was
slightly afterwards that all the European powers realized what they had bought into, and had to face
the fact

The Mystical State Is Not Easily Achieved
In this dimension, the mystical state is not easily achieved. Furthermore, when it is achieved, it is
through ways which are used purposely, such as drugs. In the story The Willows, however, the
mystical state is achieved without purpose and without a want. This story provides many moments in
which the characters experience the mystical state. In the story, The Willows, the narrator experiences
a sighting of huge un human figures which results in awe and worship from the narrator. Also in the
story, The Willows, the narrator and his companion hear a gong like sound all throughout the island
which results in fear and knowledge. The story The Willows, represents the sublime through the flood
and the willows which has caused this story to progress as the gothic genre has progressed. In the
story, The Willows, the narrator experiences a sighting of huge un human figures which results in awe
and worship from the narrator. In the very beginning of daylight hours, the narrator wakes up feeling
very troubled. Therefore, he looks outside of the tent. Then, he notices monstrous figures among the
willows. The narrator states, They first became properly visible, these huge figures, just within the
tops of the bushes immense, bronze colored, moving, and wholly independent of the swaying of the
branches. I saw them plainly and noted, now I came to examine them more calmly, that they were very
much larger than human, and indeed that something in their appearance proclaimed them

Nozick s View On Liberty
Liberty is a concept that has many differently meanings. Throughout human history, there has been a
constant back and forth from those who lack liberties that others are given without second thought. It
is clear when analyzing liberty movements such as the American and French Revolution, abolition,
and civil rights that most everyone desires certain liberties. While liberty may not have a single
definition, most people can agree that it is something that should be given to those who wish to live
harmoniously in a society. I agree with Rawls s view on liberty because without cooperation and
division of resources amongst citizens, the liberty that everyone hopes to reach cannot be attained.

Nozick s entitlement theory, a person who acquires a holding in accordance with the principle of
justice in acquisition is entitled to that holding. While I believe that everyone should have the right to
live comfortably, I also think that we should share our excesses with those who are not able to fulfil
their needs. Nevertheless, I believe that humans as an entity are more likely to agree with Nozick s
view, and I see how it could be better implemented into a preexisting society, whereas Rawls s concept
almost needs a complete blank slate to be fully implemented in the purest way possible. While Rawls
argues that, the idea of an overlapping consensus is introduced to make the idea of a well ordered
society more realistic and to adjust it to the historical and social conditions of democratic societies, I
believe that the conflicting religious, philosophical, and moral views held collectively by people vary
too much to implement Rawls s ideas in an effective way. Rawls definitely predicted this criticism, as
he justifies that through opposing religious, philosophical, and moral doctrines that gain a significant
body of adherents and endure over time from one generation to the next. If this was truly the case,
then sign me up for Rawls s plan, but even Rawls himself admits that, no such

Essay on Drawbacks and Benefits to Diagnosing...
From schizophrenia to bipolar disorder to severe depression there is no question that these are serious
mental illnesses that are debilitating and require constant medical care and according to the American
Psychiatric Association(APA) hording and internet disorders are just a couple of new diagnosis that
they have added to the manual of mental disorder or DSM. But is this addition of new mental
disorders really beneficial for the patients or is this a way for doctors and pharmaceutical companies
to cash in? , this paper proposes both drawbacks and benefits to the diagnosis of mental disorders as
well as investigation of some specific examples of diagnosed disorders. However, the paper s main
direction is to focus on the drawbacks which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another DSM category is bereavement which has been treated over the years by considering normal
grief not pathological, therefore the DSM repathologiesed it and allow people to go to psychiatrist
when they lose someone in their life and the psychiatrist diagnoses them for their lose even though it
might be a normal self limiting kind of sadness.
Realistically, diagnosis of a mental illness is only a medical diagnostic tool for the physician and it
does not taking into account what the average person is dealing with or living with when they have a
mental illness. One of the flaws of mental illness diagnosis is that it does not address the questions like
what is the life quality of a patient or what other issues could arise in that patient based on these
diagnoses.
However, there are some drawbacks to the diagnosis of a mental illness there is benefit to it as well in
such a way that it helps destigmatized and takes away labels from people who live with actual, severe
mental illnesses. Diagnosis of a mental disorder also helps acknowledgement of a mental disorder
from insurance companies and federal governments for coverage and funding respectively and helps
people to get support and become aware that their behavioral problem is more than just a weak will or
an odd behavior, at the same time diagnosis does not mean getting good treatment as well and in my

A Biological Family In Kingsolver s The Bean Trees
Everyone has a biological family but, sometimes people give up their children or when children grow
up they sometimes decide to leave this biological family. But, this does not mean that these children
have given up a family forever. According to dictionary.com, a family is considered to be a group
consisting of parents and children living together in a household . This definition generates the idea
that family does not have to be biological. In The Bean Trees, Kingsolver uses the intimacy between
the character to suggest the idea that non biological families can be as strong or even stronger than
biological ones.
The connection to Taylor s heritage helps to create a sense of family and belonging when she is in
Cherokee nation. When Taylor first leaves home she drives through C herokee nation which, reminds
her of her heritage and family so she writes a letter to her mom. On the postcard, she writes: No
offense, but the Cherokee Nation is crap. Headed west. Love, M (16). This shows the connection
between her and the Cherokees. When she writes Cherokee Nation is crap it shows how she is leaving
her heritage and family behind. Also, she says headed west , this indicates her continuing her journey
which can foreshadow to a new family or heritage. While she is in Cherokee Nation Taylor is coming
out of a bar and she suddenly receives a child. When Taylor first begins her journey she receives a

Persuasive Essay On Veganism
In today s society, our bodies have become the front image in all aspect of our lives.. Healthy living
styles and tips have exploded all over media across the United States. Veganism is one of the
upcoming lifestyles that thousands of families around the countries have adopted into their eating
habits. Beyond the health benefits of cutting out any and all animal products, veganism has become
the face to animal abuse, especially in the produce, handbag, and makeup industry. Companies like
People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) create projects and advertisements to encourage
people to go vegan. Recently, PETA has connected with Traci Bingham,a famous TV actor, to launch a
digital and poster advertisement. The advertisement displays Bingham s naked body painted like the
parts of farm factory animals used for produce in supermarkets. The advertisement All animals have
the same parts seeks to use ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos to argue that animals such as cattle have
the same body parts as people, and therefore are of equal value to human. Traci Bingham s credibility
with the sponsorship of PETA use the image of a naked woman to draw the desire of veganism to both
men and women in an era of health, fitness, and equality. Ethos and kairos are two rhetorical appeals
that this advertisement uses, referring to the credibility, or how trustworthy the source can be to draw
more people to believe it. PETA itself is one of the largest animal rights organizations, having

Piaget s Stages Of Cognitive Analysis
The topic that I found interesting from the semester so far is object permanence from the sensorimotor
stage of Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development. This is interesting to me because over a week ago,
at the local county fair in my hometown, I happened to see this concept be used in action with a cousin
of mine that happened to be two years old. While at a family gathering at the fair, I witnessed the
father of my little cousin hide a ball behind his back that the child had just had in his hands. When this
was done, the child had no idea that there even was a ball anymore. At the time, I had thought nothing
of the situation. It was not until we started to learn and read about certain concepts that I realized this
could relate to what we were learning. I thought that this was ironic that I would see such an event
happen that I could connect back to our class discussions. This concept of object permanence can be
found in our book in chapter 2. In chapter 2, there is information presented about Piaget s Stages of
Cognitive Development. In connection to the event that I had seen, the child ... Show more content on

How Religious Figures Are Depicted
How Religious Figures are Depicted in Films
Religion often plays an important role in Hollywood films, but do Hollywood films play an important
role in religion? Perhaps the better question is, Does film play an important role in the way people
understand religious concepts?
Although the best reasons for going to the movies are to be entertained and eat popcorn, understanding
a film is actually quite complex. Movies are not only a reflection of life, they also have the capability
of shaping our norms, values, attitudes, and perception of life. Through the media of film, one can find
stories of practically anything imaginable and some things unimaginable. Movie makers use their art
to entertain, to promote political agendas, to educate, and to present life as it is, was, or could be. They
can present truth, truth as they interpret it, or simply ignore truth altogether. A movie can be a work of
fiction, non fiction, or anything in between. A film is an artist s interpretation. What one takes away
from a film depends upon how one interprets what has been seen and heard. Understanding film is
indeed difficult.
Understanding religion is also complex. In American society, Christianity is the largest religion;
however, there are vast differences among Christians, as to what one is to believe and how one s
beliefs are to be put into practice. It s the mixture of beliefs and practices of other religions and the
absence of any religious belief. America is indeed a melting pot when

Case Analysis of Virgin Mobile
Virgin Mobile Pricing Strategy
Situational Analysis
Virgin Mobile, a MVNO is planning to launch its services in USA. It s target is underserved
Demographics of 15 29 years as this age group is underserved by the regular telecom operators due to
their low credit score ( Under 18 demographic cannot go for contract). They are planning to launch
their product with service offerings that focuses on value added services.
Problem Statement * The industry structure is such that supports post paid user base and is completely
different from UK industry structure. * Virgin will have to attract the new user base with lower
budgets and this segment does not have a credit score * The industry has matured and the big players
already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So servicing can lead to losses if pricing not done correctly
Cost structure
Cost of Acquisition of a customer for Virgin
Commission = $30
If virgin sells its phone at $30
Cost of ad = $60million/1 million target user = $60 per user
Unit Cost per user = $120
Customer LTV in case of prepaid
The industry average revenue per customer is given as $22 (52 30 = 22)
The churn rate is 2% per month. So for a year retention rate,r, will be = 1 (.02*12) = .76 or 76%
Interest Rates = 5%
Yearly margin =22*12 = $264
LTV for a normal operator = {264/ (1 .76+.05)} 370 = $540
LTV for Virgin = {264/(1 .76+.05)} 120 = $790
Hidden costs = 35 29/29 = .21 or 21%
If Virgin removes the hidden cost then Margins will reduce to (264/1.21) = 218.18
LTV after removal of hidden cost = 218.18/(1 .76+.05)} 120 = 632.34
LTV after removal of contracts for Industry = {264/ (1 .28+.05)} 370 = $430
Since Virgin Mobile is trying to create a bucket (option 2) by considering ARPU at 200 minutes, it
should try to keep its price per minute at around 25 cents per minute (Exhibit 10b) for third option
Monthly minutes = 200 min
Monthly cost to serve = .45*200x= 90x
Monthly margin = 200x 90x = 110x
Keeping x as .25
LTV = (.25*110*12)/{1 .72+.05} 120= $309
Recommendations
* Since LTV in option 3 is lower than industry average LTV, therefore option 3 should not be
considered * Option 1 does not

Essay On All My Pretty Ones By Anne Sexton
Crumbling under her myriad selves, Anne Sexton s poetry reveals through the journey of words the
labyrinthine setting that resides inside a disturbed mind. Intimate, almost with a sense, similar to that
of trespassing someone s private journals, her works bared her deepest and often darkest desires for
the world to read, scrutinize and often condemn. Poetry for her was a recluse, a momentary escape
route from her otherwise troubled mental state; keeping her more or less sane to survive the wild,
twisted world she built around her.
The genre of Confessional Poetry fit Sexton like a glove. She enrolled for workshops from Robert
Lowell at the Boston University and made close acquaintances with the likes of Sylvia Plath and
George Starbuck, meanwhile enhancing her only too verbally extrovert spirit. Over countless martinis
at the Ritz Carlton, the two women compared suicide attempts, discussed their mutual enchantment
with death, critiqued each other s work, and gossiped over drinks and free potato chips.*
While studying confessional poetry, it is of key importance to understand that these poems do not

Alluding perhaps in the same vein as Macduff in Shakespeare s tragedy, Macbeth, the collection
chronicles her coming to terms with the vicious circle of life and inevitability hovering over the living.
The twin deaths of Sexton s parents in 1959 (her mother s succeeded by her father s) led her to cling
on to writing for dear life. Her poems thinly conceal her feelings of bitterness towards them and thus
vividly capture the essence of the conflict between holding them responsible for desolating her and
lamenting their loss. Using it as a vehicle to transport herself from these worldly sufferings, she used
poetry as a defense, as a healing ointment to veil the scarring of her

Monologue Of Woman
I think this text is about a woman, that is a dreamer and thinks less of herself. I can say this because in
the monologue, the curious woman set out various examples such as on lines 1 and 2 it says The
woman I am in my dreams is taller than i am. I think this precise sentence means that she wants to
stand tall/up for herself and support her own opinions, which leads to my first point. A another
obvious example is, on lines 24 28 she reveals The woman I am in my dreams her legs are straight and
sure, they don t fall out from under her, they don t hide under long skirts her legs and feet are well.
This is an another example of how she thinks less of herself because, the text proves that she clearly
doesn t like how her legs are straight

Kabuki Theater and Performances
In Kabuki theatre, everything that is seen on the stage is the result of a meaningful inner dynamic
which completes the performance by the coordination of the actors with all the various components of
the mise en scène and then by the traditions of all the various elements being assembled into an
organic whole (Kawatake 1990, 247).
Kata 型 in Kabuki performance means forms, or specific acting and dramatic techniques done by the
understanding of the work and its roles. Although arguable, the kata may be used to refer to all aspects
of a production and may be divided into three categories: role type kata, movement kata, and
appearance kata.
Almost every scholar would agree that role type kata such as aragoto 荒事, wagoto 和事 and onnagata
女形, and movement kata such as mie 見得 (striking an attitude), dammari暗闘 (silent scene) and
roppō 六方 (dramatic exit accompanied by exaggerated gestures) all belong to kata. However, some
may argue defining appearance such as makeup, costumes, and props as kata of Kabuki performance.
One of the scholars who do not consider makeup used in Kabuki as kata, Kawatake Toshio, defines
kata as the pattern formed. Toshio defines kata fixed forms as the forms that have been refined over
hundreds of years. He further narrows his definition as to what kata is by stating that kata results when
there is a form in spatial terms correlated to a specific amount of time (Kawatake 1971, 250). From his
definition of kata, two elements can be defined to be satisfied

Excitatory Synapses Research Paper
The Differences Between Excitatory And Inhibitory Synapses.
Identifying the differences between excitatory and inhibitory synapses. Explaining and exploring the
meaning of depolarization and hyperpolarization and what causes them, excitatory or inhibitory

increases the probability of an action potential occurring in postsynaptic cell. Neurons form networks
through which nerve impulses travel, each neuron through which nerve impulses travel, each neuron
often making numerous connections with other cells. At an excitatory synapse, the neurotransmitter

If depolarization of the postsynaptic membranes reaches their limit, an action potential is produced in
the postsynaptic cell.
An inhibitory synapse is a kind of synaptic potential that makes postsynaptic neurons less likely to
generate an action potential. An inhibitory
Postsynaptic potential is the change in the membrane voltage of a postsynaptic neuron, which occurs
from synaptic activation of inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors. The most common inhibitory
neurotransmitters in the nervous system are Gaba and glycine. A postsynaptic potential is considered
inhibitory when the resulting change in membrane voltages making it harder for the cell to fire an
action potential, lowering the firing rate of the neuron. Inhibitory synapses are of course the opposite
of excitatory postsynaptic potentials, which result from the flow of ions into the cell. Inhibitory

1. The neurotransmitter at inhibitory synapses hyperpolarizes the postsynaptic membrane.
2. The GABA receptor is a ligand gated chloride channel. The binding of GABA increases the influx

Minor Characters In Hamlet
Many times, minor characters go overlooked, their persona is goes undiscovered and their impact on
plot and character development is greatly under appreciated. It is crucial for readers to explore the
identity of minor characters and what kind of impact they have on character development, especially
in William Shakespeare s Hamlet. The minor characters play a key role in character development for
the main characters. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern offer Hamlet a chance to display not only his
kindness and ability to sense something is wrong, but as well as his ruthlessness when people attempt
to cross his path. The relationship that Hamlet and Horatio share on the other hand, is pure loyalty and
trust. We see Hamlet s intellect come out once he is around Horatio, and where Horatio is just as much
as an intellectual as Hamlet, he his not as ignorant as Hamlet. Polonius is not nearly as intelligent as
Hamlet, which Hamlet uses to create comic relief, making Polonius the butt of his joke. And finally,
Ophelia. Ophelia is submissive and allows us to see how Hamlet would act with his perfect mistress
and how Polonius would treat his dutiful daughter. In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, minor characters
are the foundation of the major characters in the play.
To begin, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern reveal the cold heartedness of Hamlet. They also give insight
on the different characters Hamlet was friends with in his past. One of the most obvious things that

The Negative Effects Of Homework In Elementary Education
Homework has been a topic of conversation in elementary education for the majority of last decade,
the pros and cons have been argued and researched time and time again. While most professionals in
the field agree that homework is needed and helpful in middle and high school, when it comes to
younger grades the information strongly shows that it is a waste of time. At its core homework has two
possible effects in the home. Homework can be seen as a rule over parents from the school to manage
their children s time outside of school or as a way to inform parents on what their children are
currently and allow them participation in their children s education (Wright). Around the time leading
up to World War One the Ladies Home Journal began advocating for an end to homework for all
children under the age of fifteen. The change continued in 1901 when California passed a law
abolishing all homework for grade levels one through eight. After the launch of Sputnik, a pro
homework movement began calling for heavier student work loads in hopes to keep students up to par
with their russian counterparts. The movement was revised as researches in the late 1960 s as they
observed the amount of stress put onto students by homework. American schools began reporting
falling test scores and lower overall performance of students in the 1980 s, which lead to a rise of the
use of homework once again. During this time the US Department of Education released a pamphlet,
in which they claimed

For a copyright, an author must distinguish the requirement of originality, which means, The work
owes its origin to the author, is independently created and not copied from other works. (Macrina,
2014 p.299). in regards to a patent, the inventor must distinguish the requirement of novelty. Novelty
is defined as the invention must not have previously existed in any way or have been used by other
individuals. For an inventor to prove novelty they must also prove the invention has not been
described in a publication worldwide (Macrina, 2014 p.299). Obviously, the requirement of originality
is much easier to prove than the novelty of an invention, which results in copyright infringement being
difficult to prove since the individual must have evidence of not only similarity but verbatim copying
of the original work. When filing to have a patent on an invention or subject matter, the main criteria
are, It must be useful, new or novel, nonobvious and reduced to practice. (Macrina, 2014 p.306).
According to The Guardian article, there are both pros and cons for allowing patents for human
genetic materials. The pros for making human genetic materials patentable are that it would increase
the incentive for companies to pursue genetic research. In the article, Dr Gareth Williams stated, By
declaring isolated forms of human DNA patent ineligible, it robs genome research companies of a

Love. However, this Goddess did not show what it was truly like due to the telescopes not being clear

questions about Venus back then was when and how it was Venus formed, why did the Mynas have
such fascination with Venus, next will be the atmosphere, followed by its place in our solar system.

There are some characteristics that Venus does have on the ground. More than a thousand volcanoes or
volcanic centers larger than 12 miles (20 kilometers) in diameter dot the surface of Venus. Volcanic
flows have produced long, sinuous channels extending for hundreds of kilometers.
(Science.NationalGeographic.com para. 8 n.d). The landmass on Venus is potholed by small craters by
meteor or comet strikes. Most of Venus is covered with smooth volcanic plains, with two large
continents standing out. Ishtar Terra lies to the north, covering an area approximately the size of
Australia, while the Africa sized Aphrodite Terra lies just south of the equator. (Reed para. 4 2012).
Unfortunately not much is known about the surface features, however, we know there are wind swept
dunes and volcanoes. The land masses on Venus unlike Earth does not sit on hard rock or water like
the continents do on the Earth and Mars; Venus however, is far too hot for water and heavy metals
would melt due to the heat. The continents on Venus float on liquid magma. Some scientists theorize
that 500 million years ago an incident happened that stopped any kind of plate

Compare And Contrast The Dependency Theory And The World...
Dependency Theory and The World System Approach The dependency theory and the world system
approach are from the most remarkable approaches to the study of Comparative Politics. At the first
half of the twentieth century traditional approaches like the formal legal approach dominated the field
however later during the 60s the political development approach was the most dominant one. However
the Vietnam War along with other events like Watergate, the assassination of Robert Kennedy and the
Cold War can be considered a turning point in the history of the study as it gave rise to many
alternatives to political development including the dependency theory and the world system approach.
The Dependency theory was especially popular among leftist scholars, the theory supposes that
development in the third world countries is dependent on development in the already developed

  • 2. The Mexican American War, Spanish Guerra De 1847 The Mexican American War The Mexican War, Spanish Guerra de 1847, or Guerra do Estados Unidos a Mexico, are different names for the Mexican American War. Many incidents happened even before the war officially began. Eisenhower simply and bluntly stated: The fact is that Mexico stood in the way of the American dream of Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was just one of the causes that pushed us to war with Mexico. The first battle was at Palo Alto, a fort that was in the disputed zone. There were many battles in 2 years. The war finally grasped an end when Mexico signed a treaty in Mexico City. With the treaty, U.S and Mexico were able to reach terms. Each proceedings that happened, brought on the war that lasted from 1846 1848 and then ended with the U.S as victors. Prior to the Mexican American War, there were many events that lead to the cause of the war. Mexico saw U.S expansion as a threat. A man by the name of Stephen Austin made a deal with Mexico ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To begin an organizational change, a change agent should understand the culture of organization, which reflects in its norms and practices. This can include understanding the systems and structures in the organization, including their terms and roles. This also applies to understanding the leadership and management of the organization (Campbell, 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The steps to unfreezing includes: determining what needs to be changed, ensuring strong management is in place, determining why change needs to occur, and understanding and empathizing with the concerns and doubts of employees (mindtools.com) The change stage follows next as it is where members of the organization begin to resolve their uncertainties and believe in the change and new direction. This step takes some time as members want to know how the change benefits them. It is important that organizations understand that time and communication are both important to the change process (mindtools.com). As communication is encouraged, it opens the door for employee involvement. The final stage of refreeze takes place once the changes are established and the members of the organization are aligned and have accepted the new ways of working. The refreeze stage involves identifying what supports the change and what affects those changes, developing ways to uphold those changes, and providing adequate training to adequately sustain those changes (mindtools.com). There are different types of internal and external organizational changes. These changes include structural, strategic, process oriented and people centered (cliffnotes.com). Other Tunisians soon took the opportunity to resist their government and possible overthrow the leadership of Ben Ali. They took it as their responsibility to fight for the common good. Simple demonstration against the Tunisian government soon went ahead to an extent that Ben Ali had to leave the country. The events that followed the departures of the Tunisian president were the least expected. The revolts in Tunisia spurred citizens of other Arab nations to revolt against their governments. • 12. Theme Of Bravery In IM Not Scared The film Life is Beautiful directed by Roberto Benigni and Niccolò Ammaniti s film I m not Scared explore the theme of bravery of their protagonists in their comparatively dissimilar settings. The 1997 Italian film Life is Beautiful follows the life of a charming man who uses his humor to win over the woman of his dreams and bravely save his family from the tragedy in Italy during the Second World War. Also set in the late 1970s in rural southern Italy, the film I m not Scared encompasses imprisonment and the developing friendship of Michele and Filippo who is kidnapped for ransom. Filippo is chained up and hungry when Michelle discovers him in a pit near an abandoned house and he helps the boy out. Bravery is prominently explored in both texts through dialogue, colour, and setting. Benigni and Ammaniti present bravery through the dialogue presented by the protagonists Guido and Michele. The dialogue that Guido speaks reveals plenty about his personality and nature and gives the audience a firm understanding of his character. The beginning of the film presents a lot of humor and the audience is introduced to a fairytale like story. Guido constantly uses his wit and comedic nature to impress his lover Dora, and often on their encounters he enthusiastically exclaims Buongiorno Princess! By referring to Dora as a princess illustrates that Guido believes she is perfect and seeing as he repeatedly says this phrase also conveys his ability to appear when least expected. Despite the transition in the film to a completely different setting and situation, dialogue plays a key role in communicating to the audience Guido s ability to lift the hopes and provide ongoing love and sacrifice for those around him. When Guido and son Joshua are separated from Dora at the concentration camp they shout Buongiorno Princess! into the microphone. A reaction shot is then used to show Dora s familiarity with these words and her understanding that her husband and son are alive. The use of this common greeting is effective in this film because it conveys that despite the sudden change of lifestyle for Guido and his family, Guido s personality ensures his humor and devotion are expressed until the very end of the film which shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... VAP has been seen to cause up to 71% of hospital pneumonia deaths. According to Koenig (2006), Ventilator associated pneumonia is defined as pneumonia occurring more than 48 hours after patients have been intubated and received mechanical ventilation. Diagnosing VAP requires a high clinical suspicion combined with bedside examination, radiographic examination, and microbiologic analysis of respiratory secretions. Aggressive surveillance is vital in under standing local factors leading to VAP and the microbiologic milieu of a given unit. Judicious antibiotic usage is essential, as resistant organisms continue to plague intensive care units and critically ill patients. Simple nursing and respiratory therapy interventions for prevention should be adopted. (para.2) VAP has two types, early on set (within the first 48 hours), and late on set VAP (after 90 hours). VAP will usually appear within the first 48 hours after intubation. Diagnosis of VAP can sometimes be very difficult. The usual and best way to diagnose VAP is to have a portable chest radiograph performed. According to Koenig (2006), While the portable chest radiograph still remains a mandatory component in the diagnosis of ventilated patients with suspected pneumonia, as with clinical criteria for diagnosing VAP, it too has problems with both sensitivity and specificity. This article investigates whether women s Fe status could be improved by consuming a Fe fortified breakfast cereal and milk with gold kiwifruit (high in ascorbic acid, lutein and zeaxanthin) compared with consuming the same breakfast with banana (low in ascorbic acid, lutein and zeaxanthin) with low Fe stores, each day for 16 days. Iron deficiency is a common health problem with symptoms such as fatigue, lack of concentration, weakness, headache, and increased risk of infection. Women are at greatest risk of developing iron deficiency due to monthly menstrual blood loss and increased needs during pregnancy. • 26. Persuasive Essay On Veganism In today s society, our bodies have become the front image in all aspect of our lives.. Healthy living styles and tips have exploded all over media across the United States. Veganism is one of the upcoming lifestyles that thousands of families around the countries have adopted into their eating habits. Beyond the health benefits of cutting out any and all animal products, veganism has become the face to animal abuse, especially in the produce, handbag, and makeup industry. Companies like People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) create projects and advertisements to encourage people to go vegan. Recently, PETA has connected with Traci Bingham,a famous TV actor, to launch a digital and poster advertisement. The advertisement displays Bingham s naked body painted like the parts of farm factory animals used for produce in supermarkets. The advertisement All animals have the same parts seeks to use ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos to argue that animals such as cattle have the same body parts as people, and therefore are of equal value to human. Traci Bingham s credibility with the sponsorship of PETA use the image of a naked woman to draw the desire of veganism to both men and women in an era of health, fitness, and equality. Ethos and kairos are two rhetorical appeals that this advertisement uses, referring to the credibility, or how trustworthy the source can be to draw more people to believe it. PETA itself is one of the largest animal rights organizations, having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Piaget s Stages Of Cognitive Analysis The topic that I found interesting from the semester so far is object permanence from the sensorimotor stage of Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development. This is interesting to me because over a week ago, at the local county fair in my hometown, I happened to see this concept be used in action with a cousin of mine that happened to be two years old. While at a family gathering at the fair, I witnessed the father of my little cousin hide a ball behind his back that the child had just had in his hands. When this was done, the child had no idea that there even was a ball anymore. At the time, I had thought nothing of the situation. It was not until we started to learn and read about certain concepts that I realized this could relate to what we were learning. I thought that this was ironic that I would see such an event happen that I could connect back to our class discussions. This concept of object permanence can be found in our book in chapter 2. In chapter 2, there is information presented about Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development. In connection to the event that I had seen, the child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 28. How Religious Figures Are Depicted How Religious Figures are Depicted in Films Religion often plays an important role in Hollywood films, but do Hollywood films play an important role in religion? Perhaps the better question is, Does film play an important role in the way people understand religious concepts? Although the best reasons for going to the movies are to be entertained and eat popcorn, understanding a film is actually quite complex. Movies are not only a reflection of life, they also have the capability of shaping our norms, values, attitudes, and perception of life. Through the media of film, one can find stories of practically anything imaginable and some things unimaginable. Movie makers use their art to entertain, to promote political agendas, to educate, and to present life as it is, was, or could be. They can present truth, truth as they interpret it, or simply ignore truth altogether. A movie can be a work of fiction, non fiction, or anything in between. A film is an artist s interpretation. What one takes away from a film depends upon how one interprets what has been seen and heard. Understanding film is indeed difficult. Understanding religion is also complex. In American society, Christianity is the largest religion; however, there are vast differences among Christians, as to what one is to believe and how one s beliefs are to be put into practice. It s the mixture of beliefs and practices of other religions and the absence of any religious belief. America is indeed a melting pot when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Essay On All My Pretty Ones By Anne Sexton Crumbling under her myriad selves, Anne Sexton s poetry reveals through the journey of words the labyrinthine setting that resides inside a disturbed mind. Intimate, almost with a sense, similar to that of trespassing someone s private journals, her works bared her deepest and often darkest desires for the world to read, scrutinize and often condemn. Poetry for her was a recluse, a momentary escape route from her otherwise troubled mental state; keeping her more or less sane to survive the wild, twisted world she built around her. The genre of Confessional Poetry fit Sexton like a glove. She enrolled for workshops from Robert Lowell at the Boston University and made close acquaintances with the likes of Sylvia Plath and George Starbuck, meanwhile enhancing her only too verbally extrovert spirit. Over countless martinis at the Ritz Carlton, the two women compared suicide attempts, discussed their mutual enchantment with death, critiqued each other s work, and gossiped over drinks and free potato chips.* While studying confessional poetry, it is of key importance to understand that these poems do not intend to ... Her poems thinly conceal her feelings of bitterness towards them and thus vividly capture the essence of the conflict between holding them responsible for desolating her and lamenting their loss. I think this precise sentence means that she wants to stand tall/up for herself and support her own opinions, which leads to my first point. • 33. Kabuki Theater and Performances In Kabuki theatre, everything that is seen on the stage is the result of a meaningful inner dynamic which completes the performance by the coordination of the actors with all the various components of the mise en scène and then by the traditions of all the various elements being assembled into an organic whole (Kawatake 1990, 247). Kata 型 in Kabuki performance means forms, or specific acting and dramatic techniques done by the understanding of the work and its roles. Although arguable, the kata may be used to refer to all aspects of a production and may be divided into three categories: role type kata, movement kata, and appearance kata. Almost every scholar would agree that role type kata such as aragoto 荒事, wagoto 和事 and onnagata 女形, and movement kata such as mie 見得 (striking an attitude), dammari暗闘 (silent scene) and roppō 六方 (dramatic exit accompanied by exaggerated gestures) all belong to kata. However, some may argue defining appearance such as makeup, costumes, and props as kata of Kabuki performance. One of the scholars who do not consider makeup used in Kabuki as kata, Kawatake Toshio, defines kata as the pattern formed. Toshio defines kata fixed forms as the forms that have been refined over hundreds of years. He further narrows his definition as to what kata is by stating that kata results when there is a form in spatial terms correlated to a specific amount of time (Kawatake 1971, 250). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If depolarization of the postsynaptic membranes reaches their limit, an action potential is produced in the postsynaptic cell. An inhibitory synapse is a kind of synaptic potential that makes postsynaptic neurons less likely to generate an action potential. An inhibitory Postsynaptic potential is the change in the membrane voltage of a postsynaptic neuron, which occurs from synaptic activation of inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors. The most common inhibitory neurotransmitters in the nervous system are Gaba and glycine. A postsynaptic potential is considered inhibitory when the resulting change in membrane voltages making it harder for the cell to fire an action potential, lowering the firing rate of the neuron. Inhibitory synapses are of course the opposite of excitatory postsynaptic potentials, which result from the flow of ions into the cell. Inhibitory Synapses 1. The neurotransmitter at inhibitory synapses hyperpolarizes the postsynaptic membrane. 2. The GABA receptor is a ligand gated chloride channel. • 35. Minor Characters In Hamlet Many times, minor characters go overlooked, their persona is goes undiscovered and their impact on plot and character development is greatly under appreciated. It is crucial for readers to explore the identity of minor characters and what kind of impact they have on character development, especially in William Shakespeare s Hamlet. The minor characters play a key role in character development for the main characters. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern offer Hamlet a chance to display not only his kindness and ability to sense something is wrong, but as well as his ruthlessness when people attempt to cross his path. The relationship that Hamlet and Horatio share on the other hand, is pure loyalty and trust. We see Hamlet s intellect come out once he is around Horatio, and where Horatio is just as much as an intellectual as Hamlet, he his not as ignorant as Hamlet. Polonius is not nearly as intelligent as Hamlet, which Hamlet uses to create comic relief, making Polonius the butt of his joke. And finally, Ophelia. Ophelia is submissive and allows us to see how Hamlet would act with his perfect mistress and how Polonius would treat his dutiful daughter. In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, minor characters are the foundation of the major characters in the play. To begin, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern reveal the cold heartedness of Hamlet. They also give insight on the different characters Hamlet was friends with in his past. One of the most obvious things that should be taken into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Negative Effects Of Homework In Elementary Education Homework has been a topic of conversation in elementary education for the majority of last decade, the pros and cons have been argued and researched time and time again. While most professionals in the field agree that homework is needed and helpful in middle and high school, when it comes to younger grades the information strongly shows that it is a waste of time. At its core homework has two possible effects in the home. Homework can be seen as a rule over parents from the school to manage their children s time outside of school or as a way to inform parents on what their children are currently and allow them participation in their children s education (Wright). Around the time leading up to World War One the Ladies Home Journal began advocating for an end to homework for all children under the age of fifteen. The change continued in 1901 when California passed a law abolishing all homework for grade levels one through eight. After the launch of Sputnik, a pro homework movement began calling for heavier student work loads in hopes to keep students up to par with their russian counterparts. The movement was revised as researches in the late 1960 s as they observed the amount of stress put onto students by homework. American schools began reporting falling test scores and lower overall performance of students in the 1980 s, which lead to a rise of the use of homework once again. Novelty is defined as the invention must not have previously existed in any way or have been used by other individuals. For an inventor to prove novelty they must also prove the invention has not been described in a publication worldwide (Macrina, 2014 p.299). Obviously, the requirement of originality is much easier to prove than the novelty of an invention, which results in copyright infringement being difficult to prove since the individual must have evidence of not only similarity but verbatim copying of the original work. When filing to have a patent on an invention or subject matter, the main criteria are, It must be useful, new or novel, nonobvious and reduced to practice. (Macrina, 2014 p.306).
