A Report On Aedes Albopictus
3. BACKGROUND AND LITERATURE REVIEW
3.1 INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT
Aedes albopictus is considered to be the most invasive mosquito species in the world (1, 2) and there
is an increased potential for its introduction into mainland Australia given the established populations
discovered, since 2005, in the Torres Strait, the region that sandwiches between Papua New Guinea
(PNG) and northern Australia (3). The aedine mosquito species have been culpably involved in the
transmission cycles of pathogens of public health importance (1). Aedes albopictus is known to have
both field and laboratory proven vector competence for a number of emerging and re emerging viruses
including chikungunya virus (CHIKV) and dengue virus (DENV). CHIKV and DENV are arthropod
borne (arboviruses) viruses transmitted by the Aedes genus (4). Dengue is considered the most
important arboviral disease in the world affecting 390 million people every year (5, 6), and CHIKV
has continued to conquer new territories; charting an unprecedented worldwide expansion (7 11). In
Australia, dengue outbreaks occur regularly in northern Queensland where there is Aedes aegypti (12
14). Between November 2008 and May 2009, more than one thousand confirmed autochthonous cases
of dengue were recorded in Cairns, north Queensland, and Aedes aegypti, the only competent dengue
vector, at the time, was implicated. There is increasing global concern about recent outbreaks of
pathogenic arboviruses from diverse viral families including

The Human Mind In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
The Raven is a narrative poem, about a man who has recently lost his love Lenore. Edgar Allan Poe is
the author of this dark twist of the human mind. In the opening he is reading a book to try to keep his
mind off of the grief. He is all alone, uneasy, grieving, sorrowful, and is not in his right mind. He starts
to hear tappings on his door leading to a dark corridor. He is nervous because he realizes how late it is
in the middle of the night. He begins apologizing to the person saying he was napping and goes
towards the door slowly. says that the person was tapping to lightly so that is why he didn t hear the
tapping at the door. He opens the door and sees no one is there, and the darkness [is] there and nothing
more . He mutters Lenore and begins to scare himself, because he is alone and his mind is playing
tricks on him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He goes back into his room and heard a tapping at the window. It is louder than before. He tries again
to reason and says it is just the wind. He opens the shutters and unhatched the window and a stately
Raven steps in. The raven flies and perches itself onto the bust of Pallas (331) above his chamber
door. The narrator believes the bird is from the underworld and asks him why it is here. The raven
answers nevermore (331). But to turn back to what the raven represents is his fears and doubts. The
bird could have flown in and perched itself upon the statue above the man s door. But when the bird
answers nevermore, it is coming from the narrator s imagination. He is in a scared, nervous, and

Global Financial Corp Essay

Abstract
Global Financial Corporation (GF) a subsidiary of Global Equipment Company (GEC) is tasked with
handling financing for those customers who wish to purchase GEC heavy equipment. Currently GF
only processes 51% of the leases within the 10 days or less time frame, with some loans taking up
above 41 days. Ms. Rodriguez, the Vice President of GF has been directed to decrease loan processing
time to 10 days or less with the current staff she has. The current structure of the analysis and
evaluation stage does not maximize staff time effectively and as a consequence creates a bottleneck in
the process. We recommend switching to a case manager structure. lLan applications can be processed

Region 2 is only handling a total of 66 applications (35 new) with an average processing time of 5.7
days, and Region 3 handling 74 applications (42 new), averaging 8.7 days. The Northeast office
handles about 35% more applications with essentially the same staff. Only 51% of the applications are
processed within the 10 day or less requirement.
Analysis of the Current Processing Steps 1.
Analysis and evaluation stage is a single channel, interest rate multi channel, loan terms single
channel, and final issuing a multichannel. (Exhibit A)The current structure of the analysis and
evaluation stage does not maximize staff time effectively and as a consequence creates a bottleneck in
the process. With the single channel structure loan applications are unevenly distributed among teams
and create higher idle time for teams with less volume of loan applications to process. Utilization
among regions varies greatly between 73% 95%. The following observation of the current structure
was achieved using the MMK model (See exhibit B): * Expected wait time in the system for an
application in Region 1 is approximately 37 days, with actual processing time of 14.10 hours. This is
where the bottleneck occurs as it takes the evaluation team over 16 days out of the 37 to perform the
review of 78 applications. * Expected wait time in the system for an application in Region 2 is
approximately 11 days, with an actual processing time of 13.40 hours. Of the three

Fair Value
Case analysis: Classification of instruments in fair value hierarchy
Instrumental 1
In the case, there was a significant decrease in the volume and activity for the instrument because of
(1) significant widening of the bid ask spreads in the markets and the widening continued throughout
Q4 2012 (2) a significant decrease in the volume of trades comparing with historical level in Q4 (3) no
recent transactions. According to 820 10 35 54 c, it was reasonable to determine that market is not
active. Because the adjustments were based on management s assumption, FFC didn t used level 1
inputs in the income approach valuation technique (present value technique). In addition, significant
adjustment inputs includes credit adjustment (level 3 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, FFC changed its valuation technique from market approach to income approach (discounted
cash flow model). Most relevant inputs in this model were level 3 inputs, because they were
estimations and assumptions that were not market based. In other words, such inputs were not
observable. So, FFC should classify the ARSs into level 3 of the fair value hierarchy in the fourth
quarter.
Instrument 4
There were no quoted prices available for X stock, so the measurement did not belong to level 1 of the
Fair Value Hierarchy. In addition, because Most of X s competitors are either privately held or
subsidiaries of larger publicly traded clothing retailers and the shares of the two similar two
companies are thinly traded in an observable market, the market is inactive. FFC also needed some
significant assumptions to forecast its cash flows. These assumptions were level 3 inputs in
accordance with ASC 820 10 55 e. In the case, FFC should use the multiple techniques and weight
more market approach than income approach, because (1) general valuation principle is maximizing
the use of relevant observable inputs and minimizing the use of unobservable inputs (2) sufficient data
could be used to support both the approaches (3) market participants used multiple techniques to
invest similar stock. So, under ASC 820 10 35 37A, FFC should category the investment into level 3
of the fair value hierarchy, in which the lowest level significant inputs are.

Ambition in Hamlet by Williams Shakespeare
The dictionary defines personal ambition as An earnest desire for some type of achievement or
distinction, as power, honour, fame, or wealth and the willingness to strive for its attainment .
(Dictionary.com) One could argue that too much ambition can be a negative trait. By placing such an
emphasis on personal ambition it causes some to push their loved ones away in order to achieve what
they want. Within most people, unhappiness is a common feeling and in extreme results, it leads to
death. In the texts Fifth Business by Robertson Davies and William Shakespeare s Hamlet, it is
evident when the strongest characters place power and ambition above all else they crumble.

Gertrude:
QUEEN. O Hamlet, speak no more:

As will not leave their tinct.
HAMLET. Nay, but to live

Hamlet is overflowing with the power he placed on his ambition to succeed in seeking his revenge that
he pushed two characters that would have done anything for him far away. As well for the character
Boy in Fifth Business, he too pushes away someone who really cares about him. Coincidentally, as
Hamlet pushes away females, Boy distant himself from his first wife, Leola. He would beat her and
yell at her all the time because he was so cooped up in his own mind. A severe incident which takes
place between Boy and Leola is when Boy gives Dunny a number of reels of film, and asks him to
develop them for him. At first, this seems a harmful favour, but when Dunny realizes that those reels
contain naked pictures of Leola, it embarrasses as well as angers him to a great extent. Boy s
excitement over the pictures at the dinner table would provide a discomfort to one, as Leola says: Boy,

Prolactinoma Essay
Prolactinoma is usually a benign tumor that appears as a result of the monoclonal expansion of a cell
line of adenohypophysis lactotrope cells [1].
Pituitary tumors represent the most common intracranial neoplasms accompanying serious morbidity
through mass effects, and inappropriate secretion of pituitary hormones [2]. Prolactin secreting tumor
(prolactinomas) is the most frequently occurring pituitary tumor. Prolactinomas (PRLoman) are
thought to have a prevalence of 100/million population [3]. However, series of radiological and
autopsy studies suggest a prevalence as high as up to 22.5% [2]; furthermore, population based studies
[4.5] had shown a higher four to five fold increased prevalence of PRLomas, and pituitary adenomas

Despite massive researches, the pathogenesis of pituitary adenomas remains unclear and poorly

their clinical spectrum is diverse and has various degrees of invasiveness which suggesting multiple
steps and mechanisms [1]. Pituitary tumorigenesis appears to be a complex process with extrinsic and
intrinsic factors involved [8].
On the other hand, Vitamin D plays an important role in the regulation of serum calcium levels and
bone homeostasis [9]. Yet, during the last decades, researchers reported pleiotropic effects on different
types of cells [10]. The active metabolite of vitamin D ( 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1,25(OH)2D3])
modulates cellular proliferation and differentiation, and has potent anti cancer activities both in vitro
and in vivo

Compare And Contrast Achilles And Odysseus
Achilles and Odysseus are quite different in the way they view combat and take down their enemies.
Achilles seems to rely on his physical prowess, often charging in headfirst into battle using surprise
and brute force to overpower his opponent whereas Odysseus has a tendency to use his intelligence
and cunning nature in both the battlefield and politics as he stealthily plans the demise of his
unsuspecting opponent. Gnashing his teeth with rage, Achilles leaped from his chariot, made for his
enemy, and lunged out at him with his sword (341). Even when faced with a seemingly invincible
assailant, Achilles uses his anger and sheer power to overtake Cycnus and impulsively attacks his
unblemished skin in the hopes to end his life. It is Achilles agile and finesse in battle that has led to
many victories for him. Even though the reasoning for his actions are more simplistic and even quite
animalistic in some scenarios, it is this godlike strength and vicious temper that makes him the
physical embodiment of a vengeful hero and in the Greeks stories he possesses all of the physical
traits a hero should exemplify. For now Odysseus began to boil with envy and thought up a despicable
plan to end his rival (342). Odysseus is quick and decisive in his actions but he relies on his sly nature
to defeat and overwhelm his opponent in battle. Odysseus is valued for his wisdom and fair counsel,
he has experience in the real world and this shows in the way he manipulates and even plays

Blue Zone Essay
Does Virginia have to potential to have residents who live to be 100+?
Mankind has always had an infatuation with the concept of living forever or immortality. We ve had
expeditions to search of the fountain of youth within Florida; as well as Linus Paulin thinking he
found the key to immortality through vitamins, and later dying from same cancer he claimed vitamins
cured (Offit, The Vitamin Myth: Why We Think We Need Supplements. ). Now author and public
speaker Dan Buettner found a new lead towards living a longer, healthier life. Buettner tracked down
areas that he dubbed Blue Zone, a geographic area of the world where people live measurably longer
lives, and thinks these areas hold the key to living a longer life. But does Virginia have potential to
hold one of these Blue Zones? No, I don t predict that any community or neighborhood in Virginia
could adopt these lifestyles and or cultures. Most Virginia areas lack a sense of community, aren t too
social, practice lazy habits, and don t typically have a strong green or healthy diet. During this paper I

expectations. So let s dive into what s currently in the way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Summary Of Some Keep The Sabbath Going To Church By Emily...
Religious freedom is the United States first American freedom. It is essential to an individual s
spiritual life and their own salvation. It is the freedom to share one s faith and beliefs in their own
way. Emily Dickinson s poem Some keep the Sabbath going to Church expresses her own religious
beliefs. The poem is a rejection of traditional religious behavior that takes place during her time. She
sees religion as a private matter for the individual. The poem indicates that one does not have to attend
church in accordance with society to show one s faith and beliefs. She writes, Some keep the Sabbath
going to Church / I keep it, staying at Home (lines 1 2). Dickinson compares her home as a place to
worship. The feeling one has to conform to a church s Christian views and not their own draw them to
worship in their own way. Many choose to stay home and worship as Emily Dickinson did in her

The Mormon Myth
The Mormon faith otherwise known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was founded
in the early 19th century in upstate New York. The mormon prophet and founder Joseph Smith found
golden plates that introduced a previously unknown third section of the bible. However, Mormonism
receives a heavy amount of criticism due to the fact that Smith told his disciples that only he could see
the plates, consequently, there is no proof of the plates existence. The religion itself is founded upon
the experiential aspect of religion. The founder of the religion, Joseph Smith, was visited by an angel

The Importance Of Art And Self Expressed And Healing
Art is the Key to Self Expressing and Healing
Any event has an impact on individuals in a good or bad way. Although, if an experience created a
crevice in a person s heart and mental stability, could they still be able to heal from such a moment?
Speak, a novel written by Laurie Halse Anderson, tells the story of a freshmen student at

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Foreign Currency...
With the plethora of bonds, funds, stock, etc. available in the market an individual must have
sufficient information to make better financial decisions. To make this simple let us today look at
(FCCB) foreign currency convertible bond.
So what is foreign currency convertible bond (FCCB)? To make things much simpler we have broken
the word (FCCB) foreign currency convertible bond into two simple words; foreign currency and
convertible bond.
Let us look at foreign currency, (FCCB) foreign currency convertible bond is issued in a different
currency than the issuer s domestic currency. In other words a company would issue the bond in a
different/foreign currency apart from their own national/domestic currency. Therefore the principle

The bonds can be redeemed at maturity if not converted.
Disadvantages of foreign currency convertible bond
More risk of volatility of the market as more than one economy come into picture.
There is a risk of exchange as the interest is to be paid in foreign currency. In other words if the
exchange rate increases the issuer will have to pay more to the investors.
If the stock price is lower than the redemption amount investors would seek redemption of bond
instead of conversion; this may take a toll on the earnings of the company as the company will have to
refinance to fulfil the promise of redemption made.
Foreign currency convertible bond (FCCB) remains as a liability for the company and it shrinks the
current ratio of the company.
Conclusion:
Though being in practice for a long duration, foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCB) have
become very popular while raising funds at competitive rates. In India foreign currency convertible
bonds (FCCB) are considered as foreign direct investment (FDI) by the government of India. Foreign
currency convertible bonds (FCCB) are the more modern method of raising money for the company,
which takes advantage of the economies being truly global. Also factors like government policies and
regulation, exchange rate, and cost of conversion to stock/equity may influence investor s decision to
swap foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCB) into

Men and Women Were Created Equ Essay

Men and Women were Created Equal Men are not superior to women, they are equal in every way.
Although it is true that society has stereotyped women into traditional roles, this preconceived notion,
is totally false. Action to promote the concept of equality in our society needs to be taken. Women
have been fighting for equality for many decades. As a result of this battle, some amazing
transformations have taken place amongst the female gender. Women have become educated and over
the last few decades have started to take active roles and their rightful place in society. They have
made major inroads in working opportunities, including government, science and even the military.

2 Another example of women sharing an equal role in today s society is demonstrated in the military.
Today s women joining the Canadian Armed Forces are equally eligible with men for combat roles.
Over 229,000 women serve on active duty in the military services of the Department of Defense. This
monumental step allows women to become takers, as well as producers of life. Women now have
equal rights and responsibilities in the defense of our country. These advances have been made, not
only on the ground but in the air as well. In 1988, Deanna Brasseur became Canada s first female
fighter pilot. That same year, the defense department appointed their first female general, Sheila
Hellstrom. The department also stated that women often do better at riflery than men due to the fact
that they listen to instruction while men tend to think they know it all. A male veteran sergeant, proud
of his work with female recruits, says that: Today s women won t find anything that hard to adjust to
in the military. The facts are telling a tale. Many doors are opening for women and they are barreling
through with boundless energy and determination. The 21st century is here and the traditional role of
the stay at home mother is all but disappeared. Marriage and children are still signs of the successful
women, however women are less willing to accept exclusive roles of housewife and mother. More and

The Themes Of Altruism In Night By Elie Wiesel
Altruism is what separates man from beast. Humans as a species differ from the majority of the animal
kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own well being for the benefit of others. To be human is
to be compassionate and caring for your fellow man. In Night, Elie Wiesel shows that humanity can be
usurped. Subjected to the inhuman conditions of the Nazi concentration camps, his sense of altruism
and compassion essentially disappear, leaving only animalistic self interest and the instinct to survive.
Not yet exposed to the horrors of the concentration camp, Elie enters Birkenau with his innate senses
of compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, Elie witnesses the burning of children,
women, and men alike. In response to this horrific sight, Elie becomes doubtful of the reality of the
situation and questions, How was it possible... that the world kept silent? (32). As seen in the creation
of Night and this question, for Elie, silence is unthinkable. At this point, Elie still holds faith in the
power that people hold. However, there is only hope to save these people, if the silence breaks. In
addition to this thinking, his tone of disbelief contributes to Elie s demonstration of one of man s most
primitive instinct: compassion. This compassion is still strong in Elie, for if it were not, why would he
have questioned this so passionately?
To cope with the oppressive treatment from the concentration camps officials, Elie s innate senses of
compassion and altruism wane. Watching his father subject himself to the beating, Elie s wishes that
his father had not incurred the wrath of Idek, the Kapo. However instead rescuing his father from the
blows, Elie watche[s] it all happening without moving. [He] kept silent. In fact, [he] thought of
stealing away in order not to suffer the blows (54). In his fleeting thoughts of abandoning his father to
deal with the beating alone, Elie is beginning to betray the bonds of family; he is losing the original
compassion and willingness to sacrifice himself that he entered the camp with. Although there is a
suggestion of worry and compassion left in Elie s tone, this is not strong enough to for Elie to forgo
his own safety and wellbeing. In this, Elie has

An Evaluation Of The Alcoholic Beverage And Conversation...
An independent variable, which is what is varied during the experiment, is what will affect the
dependent variable. A change in the independent variable directly causes a change in the dependent
variable, and you can only have one independent variable. The independent variable is the behavior of
one participant that triggers the behavior of another participant. In the first study, the alcoholic
beverage and conversation topic selected by Participant #1 is the independent variable. In the second
study, the behavior of the seller at the store is the independent variable, as is the verbal and nonverbal
communication of some participants in the third study.
A dependent variable is what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the
experiment. The dependent variable responds to the independent variable. It is called dependent
because it depends on the independent variable. In a scientific experiment, you cannot have a
dependent variable without an independent variable. In the first study, the response of the second
person to order the drink and take part in the ongoing conversation is the dependent variable. In the
second study, the dependent variable is the mannerisms with which the customer responds to the
seller. In the third study, the dependent variables are the response of the people in the in group , and
the response of the people in the out group . You can have more than one dependent variable, but you

The Between Food And Culture
The United States has long been known as a melting pot because most of its people are descended
from immigrants. The immigrants come to USA for a better life so they leave their own country and
decide to call it home. Most of the immigrants live in New York in this city, so we can see the
variation in people and culture. Basically the immigrants leave their country but they don t leave their
culture. They want to maintain their culture and one of the way to maintain their culture is food. Not
only that but also many people want to introduce their culture to other, that s why they open
restaurant. Sometimes people open a restaurant in a diverse area and they cook food combining the
recipe of different countries so the place plays an important role for the people who are not even from
that culture. From that, we can see that food can easily combine any culture without changing their
own culture. When given the task to find a restaurant that has represents the connection between food
and culture a restaurant that comes in my mind was Sagar Restaurant located in 169 street in Jamaica,
Queens. Though Sagor restaurant is a Bangladeshi, Indian style Chinese restaurant, it represents the
interaction between various groups of Asian immigrants through food and it also reminds Bangladeshi
people about their country. The percentage of Asian race and Black race in Jamaica are all higher than
other races and least percentages of races in Jamaica is Native Hawaiian and American Indian

Chesapeake Bay Prevention Essay
Prevention is necessary to control many problems in the Chesapeake Bay. Prevention can range from
something as big as a government issue or as small as a single person helping out. The greatest chance
at total protection for water quality is when many people and organizations work together to prevent
problems. According to the Chesapeake Bay Program, Federal, state and non profit Bay Program
partners are working with farmers, developers, homeowners and local governments to reduce
pollutants from multiple sources and restore water quality for all to enjoy (Chesapeake Bay Program).

For example, the Monkton Fly Shop in Maryland will be cleaning six wader wash stations so waders
can be cleaned from invasive species. These wash stations are there to wash invasive species off of
waders so invasive species are not transferred into the Chesapeake Bay. The fly shop s twice weekly
online fishing report (www.backwaterangler.com) regularly reminds Gunpowder anglers to wash,
scrub, and rinse their boots and wading shoes (Anonymous 2011). Felt soles on the waders trap
invasive species within the felt and when the waders are used again the invasive species are
transferred to that water source. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is following actions
already taken by New Zealand, Alaska, and Vermont to prohibit the use of felt soles (Anonymous

Scientists studying fish in the Chesapeake Bay stated that they have discovered mycobacteria in some
of the fish, causing ulcers, emaciation and sometimes death. The article also talks about this kind of
mycobacteria having harmful effects on humans. People should be more careful about dealing with
fish in the Chesapeake Bay. While the scientists are still studying and learning about this new
discovery, they are also looking into and leaning towards prevention. According to the article,

The Concentration Of Reactants During The Fastest Rate Of...
It was hypothesised that the solution at 80 degrees C and the greatest concentration of reactants would
result in the fastest rates of reaction and reaction time. This was because of the scientific reasoning
that at larger temperatures and concentrations atomic particles collide with greater energy and more
frequently. The data collected from the experiment supports the hypothesis. It was observed that the
largest concentration of reactants, 0.2M and 0.5M, had the highest reaction rate of 0.00484 mol/L/s,
and quickest induction phase, 1 second. Also, the slowest reaction time was 21.51 seconds and was the
reaction between KIO3 at 0.05M and Na2S2O5 at 0.125M, which were the smallest amounts of
reactant. In addition, the highest temperature tested, which was 80 degrees, produced the fastest
reaction time with 4.58 seconds, while 70 degrees ranked close behind in second. These results align
with previous data and theories, which state that as temperature and concentration rise, the time it
takes to react generally decreases and the reaction rate increases (Wilbraham, 2002), (UC Davis, n.d.).
From the testing and results several major trends and relationships were discovered. The first
observation, which supports the hypothesis, is the relationship between concentration of reactants and
reaction rate. As concentration increased, the reaction rate also increased in direct proportion. This
was shown by the results because when the concentrations doubled, from 0.1M and 0.125M to

Life Span Development and Personality of Michael Jackson
Introduction
Michael Jackson was born August 29, 1958. Born the eighth of 10 children, Michael grew up in a
working class family in a small three bedroom home in Gary, Indiana. As a child, Michael struggled
with his fame. He never lived a normal childhood and throughout his adulthood he tried to recapture
his lost youth. Although labeled as an outstanding entertainer and humanitarian in the world, Michael
became dependent on pain medications. Scandals of child molestation and Michael s obsession with
his appearance further fueled his addiction. Overdosing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His voice deepened and he struggled with acne. He became obsessed with his appearance and through
the years changed his appearance through plastic surgeries. Michael ultimately throughout his life was
going through an identity crisis. In Erik Erikson s stages of psychosocial development, the emergence
of an identity crisis occurs during the teenage years in which people struggle between feelings of
identity versus role confusion (Cherry, 2009). Michael struggled to make a commitment to his identity.
His identity status could best described as moratorium, the status of a person who is actively involved
in exploring different identities, but has not made a commitment
(Cherry, 2009).
Theoretical Approach Michael Jackson behavior and achievements is best described by the humanistic
theory of personality, Rogers s Person Centered Approach. Kowalski amp; Weston (2009),
described Carl Rogers s theory of personality, which focuses on understanding
the individual s phenomenal world. Rogers similarly believed that human beings are
basically good but that their personalities become distorted by interpersonal

Working Class Underachievement
Contemporary views are that class is still the most significant social factor for accounting for
differences in educational achievement. It seems that middle class children tend to do better than
working class children. Most sociologists believe that in every social class there is the same range of
ability, this means that class differences in educational attainment are not due to class differences in
intelligence, but due to other circumstances such as the home and socialization. However some
sociologists would argue that attainment in classes results from sifting, sorting and assessment of
pupils in terms of teacher s perceptions of class, ability and conduct. Throughout this essay, the view
that working class underachievers in school is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory states that those at the bottom of the class system are deprived of important values,
attitudes, experiences and skills which are essential for educational success. Their home life lacks the
kind of stimulation needed for high attainment, for example, the absence of books and educational
toys. Basil Bernstein identified two forms of speech pattern, the restricted code and the elaborate code.
The restricted code is a kind of shorthand speech. In comparison, in the elaborated code, meanings are
made explicit, explanations are provided and details are spelt out. According to Bernstein, most
middle class children have been socialised in both the restricted and elaborated codes whereas many
working class children are limited to the restricted code. As teachers use the elaborated code, working
class children have an immediate disadvantage and may be criticised for misunderstanding. Working
class children learn this language code at home, therefore being another reason for underachievement
in school being related to home circumstances. Further more, the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu
starts from the idea that there is a dominant culture in society. Children born into the middle class have
a built in advantage. Their culture is closer to the culture of the school so they will be more likely to
succeed, their language is closer to that of the teachers so they will be more likely to

Iago Motives In Othello
Iago is a manipulative and intricate character who can be interpreted in several ways. There are
various motives that may have contributed to Iago s distaste for the protagonist Othello. William
Shakespeare s Othello focuses on the conflicts surrounding the characters of Othello and Iago, their
families, and peers. One of the core reasons Iago was motivated to ruin Otello include his own lust for
profit. A second motive was that being evil was simply in his nature, which he admits. The fact that he
likes to trick and disserve others for his own enjoyment is also a central motive. These motives are
evident throughout the play through the dialogue, symbolism and imagery, and conflict.
Iago is a very egotistical and selfish man, and his actions that portray these traits show him being evil
for his own profit. He believes he can get ahead in life through the fall of other characters in Othello ,
such as Cassio and Othello, and their relationships. An instance in which he is motivated by his thirst
for success is when he tells Othello s wife Desdemona s father, Brabantio that she is eloping with
Othello, who is seen as being of lower status because he is of a different race. The quote Call up her
father / Rouse him. Make after him, poison his delight, / Proclaim him in the streets; incense her
kinsmen, / And, though he in a fertile climate dwell, / Plague him with flies. (1. 1. 74 80) Supports his
wish to pit Brabantio against Othello. Iago would want to create unrest in

Interpersonal Conflict As A Stressful Conflicts In The...
Conflict is a complex behavior. It can occur on various levels as intrapersonal, interpersonal,
intragroup, or intergroup. Intrapersonal conflicts occur within the person, whereas interpersonal
conflict takes place between people. Likewise, intragroup conflict happens within one group of people
and intergroup conflict occurs between two or more groups of people.
Managing conflict in the workplace is a time consuming but necessary task for the physician leader.
Conflicts may exist between physicians, between physicians and staff, and between the staff or the
health care team and the patient or patient s family. The conflicts may range from disagreements to
major controversies that may lead to litigation or violence. Conflicts have an adverse effect on
productivity, morale, and patient care. They may result in high employee turnover and certainly limit
staff contributions and impede efficiency. Effects:
The dysfunctional physician presents an insidious cost to any practice or health care organization. He
or she increases the stress in the work environment and the accompanying loss of efficiency. In a
stressful workplace, such as the operating room with a berating physician, morale and team spirit

information because of fear of an outburst. The information withheld may be vital for

Spy Agencies In The Cold War
The Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union was starting to lead towards nuclear
war. President Eisenhower started to become fearful of these types of events and looked towards using
agencies to uncover the secrets of the Soviets. The Central Intelligence Agency or CIA was formed in
the United States, and the Komitet Gosudarstvennoi Bezopanosti (Committee for State Security) or
KGB was formed in the USSR. Both of the agencies conducted covert operations and were able to
infiltrate enemy governments to uncover any information that was needed. These spy agencies acted
as distractions for the war by fighting in an arms race more than looking for any reason to declare war.
Before the World War II era, Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed William J. Donovan a New York
Lawyer to be the Coordinator of Information, and after the war began, he became the head of the
Office of Strategic Services (OSS). The OSS was created to analyze strategic information that could
be used during the war. This agency did not last long; it was abolished after the end of WWII.

A statement that stuck out to me was that people are more important than things. This is an idea that
seems to have been innate for me. Since I was young, I always cared a lot about the people in my life,
and that has translated to how I am now. I value friendships so much. I believe that yes, you have your
family and they should always be there and support you, but having friends creates such more stable
foundation in the relationships that you have. You can make a lot of money and buy whatever you
want, but money does not equate happiness. I appreciate the people who are in my life and all the
experiences we have shared together, which I will continue to reminisce about and keep forever.
Money or things could not give me all those experiences. Sometimes I feel like people are so driven
by their need for a sense of achievement and wealth/power that they push people away and give up
any chance of building their friendships and enjoying the fruits of life that you can only get through
your interaction with people. These people just end up alone, and that is something I do not want to
do. Randy Pausch was very successful at being able to always put people before things. Experience is

J s scenario is pressure ulcer. From analyzing Mr. J s case one can see the correlation between the use
of restraints and pressure ulcers. Obtaining data listed on the Braden Scale such as moisture, mobility,
activity, and nutrition are important when assessing for pressure ulcer risks. Once the collected data
indicates the patient is high risk then the established pressure ulcer protocol needs to be followed.
Nurses will need to minimize friction, support bony surfaces, manage moisture, and maintain adequate
nutrition to advance quality patient care. The other nursing sensitive indicator in this case is restraints.
As I have mentioned earlier the use of restraints in Mr. J s case seems appropriate as he pose great fall
risk which may further complicate his current health condition. However, it is important to perform a
complete assessment on the parameters for restraint such as cognitive functioning, history of
dementia, physical impairment, and drug interactions to determine the need for restraints. When
restraint is clinically indicated, and the benefits outweigh the risks then protocol for restraints has to
be followed. Once the patient is restrained, it is standard practice that restraints are to be removed as
soon as possible, and the patient in restraints will need assistance to change position every two hours.

Kids in the Hitler Youth would be given a knife at age 15, (Wikipedia). These knifes would have a

receive a letter saying that a family member has died. These telegrams were typed on typewriters and
were written by mostly women. These were also written by soldiers who had injuries bad enough not
to return to the war. These injuries may include, the loss of limbs, bullet wounds, and broken legs.
This is historically accurate because this is where all the telegrams were made. These telegrams were
made to inform families of their losses. These jobs were also what helped women get outside jobs.
This is because in this time period women have to do so called house work . Therefore, while all the

Influences Of Plato s Republic, Plato, And Marcus Aurelius
A leader is an explorer, cutting a path through the jungle for the rest of his group to follow, (Team).
The goal of a leader should be to set an example, and standard for others. The well known,
Machiavelli, Plato, and Marcus Aurelius have varying opinions of what a leader should be. Only one
view of a leader that I can agree with correlates with the voice of Aurelius most. Despite this, I must
admit that Machiavelli s and Plato s writings of the Prince and Republic offers a few point that can be
validated. The writings of Plato s Republic, Machiavelli s Prince, and Aurelius s Meditations all
contain a visions of a leader, but the descriptions of Aurelius are more closely related to what a leader
is. There are three impactful minds that affect how people perceive the essence of a leader, and they
are Machiavelli, Plato and Marcus Aurelius. In Plato s Republic, Plato describes what he believes a
leader to possess. He describes a leader to be the person who understands the forms, and seeks the
truth. He calls that person a philosopher king, or a joyful shepherd of sheep. This man/woman is able
to determine what is real and what is not. With this ability they are able to lead people with a
selflessness that cannot be matched by the other two figures. Moving on to Marcus Aurelius s outlook,
the differences show through plainly. Aurelius begins with the definition of stoicism, which is a Greek

I have always believed that everything happens for a reason. Now, I am not saying that I believe that
there is a larger plan for everyone s life. To clarify, I believe that there is no such thing as fate.
Alternatively the events that happen throughout an individual s life impacts their future in unknown
ways. The film The Adjustment Bureau (George Nolfi, 2011) is based on the short story The
Adjustment Team . The story was written by Philip K. Dick in 1966. The film s described as an action
thriller. It is about a man, who after seeing part of his future goes to great lengths to test his fate: in the
hope of being with the woman he loves (The Official Site of The Adjustment Bureau). Matt Damon
plays David Norris, a man with a promising political career. He has the potential to become the
President of the United States. Emily Blunt plays Elise Sellas, a talented dancer. Elise and David fall
in love with after a chance encounter. According to the members of the Adjustment Bureau, David and
Elise are not meant to be together. Therefore, the Adjustment Bureau intervenes to keep them on their
predetermined life path. David s unwillingness to accept that he and Elise are not meant to be together
is the foundation of the movie. Thus, fate seems to be the central theme of the film. Though, I concede
that fate is an important aspect of the film. I insist that power relations are also important to the
progression of the film. Hats in The Adjustment Bureau are a symbol of a

Essay On The Importance Of Being Earnest
The Importance of Being Earnest
The title of the book I read for my summer reading is called The Importance of Being Earnest which is
a drama book written by Oscar Wilde. It was set in London in the year of 1895. A constant theme
throughout this book was marriage beginning with Lane and Algernon discussion. Everyone has
different ideas of what marriage is, Lane believes it is a pleasant state, Algernon and Jack discuss if it
s for business or pleasure. Lady Bracknell believes that it should be a complete surprise to a girl even
if it s unpleasant for her. The constant theme in this book is understanding what marriage is and if it s
pleasant or more a duty that people do.

While Jack is in love with Gwendolen, Algernon Earnest has fallen deeply in love with Cecily so
much so that he has asked her to marry him. Since Cecily cares so much about the name Earnest,
Algernon leaves to find Dr.Chasuble to see if he can get himself christened as Earnest. While
Algernon is away, Gwendolen comes and Cecily orders her some tea and tries to be a good hostess.
When Cecily explains who she is, Gwendolen is surprised to find out that Cecily is Mr.Worthing s
ward. After seeing Gwendolen s confusion she explains that she isn t Ernest Worthing ward and she is
actually engaged to Earnest Worthing. Of course, Gwendolen explains that Cecily must have it wrong
because she is engaged to Earnest Worthing. The ladies explain to each other that the men they are
engaged to are actually named Jack and Algernon. Jack is forced to admit to all of his lies of his

Gwendolen furious at Jack and Algernon for lying to them.
Act lll begins with Cecily asking why he pretended to be Jack s brother and Gwendolen ask Jack the

Analysis Of Juggler By Richard Wilbur
The poem Juggler describes how the tricks the juggler acts out for the crowd amaze and intrigue them.
In the poem Juggler by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery, figurative language and tone to
describe the juggler as someone who brings happiness and fun to others. The use of imagery,
figurative language, and tone are used to describe the juggler and reveal the speaker s own views
about the world.
Throughout the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler s appearance and the tricks he is
accomplishing in his show. For example, Wilbur states, it takes a sky blue juggler with five red
balls...to shake our gravity up. (lines 6 7). The author s description of the juggler as someone who can
shake our gravity up (line 7) shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous impact on the
audience and the speaker because the audience is full of serious people and the juggler evokes
happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the audience is able to get an
insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of things happen in the speaker s
life that make the speaker happy. Additionally, Wilbur shows the reader the the juggler is performing,
the author says, Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom s Balancing up on his nose, and the plate
whirls. On the tip of the broom! (lines 9 21). We can see the juggler as he is performing his great trick
and how the crowd is happy and amazed at what he is accomplishing through his performance when
the author says, Damn, what a show,we cry... ( line 21). Having the crowd cheer at the juggler as he
completes his trick of the balancing act showed that people are made happy with small things like the
juggling trick the juggler was performing for the crowd.
As the poem progresses, we can see how the juggler manipulates the five red balls he is using to move
around his body. Richard Wilbur uses figurative language like personification to show how the balls
move by the tricks the juggler does. Wilbur says, The balls roll around, wheel on his wheeling hand,
learning the ways of lightness, alter to spheres, grazing his finger ends, cling to their course there. (
lines 8 11). The author explains how the

Role Of The 21st Century Public School Superintendent
In corporate America, the expectation for a CEO is to increase profits and to project a positive public
image for the corporation. The role of the 21st century public school Superintendent often mirrors that
of a corporate CEO. The superintendent is responsible for a multi million dollar budget, the
management of a large employee pool, and the expectations for high stakes profits are in the form of
standardized assessment scores. Just as the CEO is expected to produce an increase in profits, the
school Superintendent is accountable for, and is expected to produce, a yearly increase in test scores.
Whittle (2005) contrasts the stability of CEOs in major corporations with the stability of
superintendents in large urban school districts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kentucky is worth examining as it has a vast rural area and as it was the first state to implement one of
the most large scale educational reforms in the country.
Purpose of Literature Review
The purpose of this Literature Review is to examine the literature related to the question: Does a
relationship exist between school superintendent tenure and student academic success? Through this
research, the researcher discovered that there is very little research on the topic. Moreover, the
research that does exist is focused on large, urban districts. Thus, there is a gap in the literature as it
relates to rural schools, such as many of those found in the state of Kentucky.
Development of the Superintendent as Instructional Leader
The role of the Superintendent has changed dramatically over the years. The office of superintendent
as it is known today is much more recent in the history of education in America. Historically, the need
for a school district superintendent rose with the growth and the changes in public schools in America.
The first position known as school district superintendent was created in the late 1830s. By most
accounts, the very first district superintendents were appointed in Buffalo, New York and Louisville,
Kentucky (Grieder, Pierce, Jordan, 1969).
By 1850, 13 city school districts had created this position (Kowalski, 2006).
This new position was necessary to accommodate the changing look of schools (Kowalski, 2006). The

  • 2. A Report On Aedes Albopictus 3. BACKGROUND AND LITERATURE REVIEW 3.1 INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT Aedes albopictus is considered to be the most invasive mosquito species in the world (1, 2) and there is an increased potential for its introduction into mainland Australia given the established populations discovered, since 2005, in the Torres Strait, the region that sandwiches between Papua New Guinea (PNG) and northern Australia (3). The aedine mosquito species have been culpably involved in the transmission cycles of pathogens of public health importance (1). Aedes albopictus is known to have both field and laboratory proven vector competence for a number of emerging and re emerging viruses including chikungunya virus (CHIKV) and dengue virus (DENV). CHIKV and DENV are arthropod borne (arboviruses) viruses transmitted by the Aedes genus (4). Dengue is considered the most important arboviral disease in the world affecting 390 million people every year (5, 6), and CHIKV has continued to conquer new territories; charting an unprecedented worldwide expansion (7 11). In Australia, dengue outbreaks occur regularly in northern Queensland where there is Aedes aegypti (12 14). Between November 2008 and May 2009, more than one thousand confirmed autochthonous cases of dengue were recorded in Cairns, north Queensland, and Aedes aegypti, the only competent dengue vector, at the time, was implicated. There is increasing global concern about recent outbreaks of pathogenic arboviruses from diverse viral families including ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Human Mind In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven The Raven is a narrative poem, about a man who has recently lost his love Lenore. Edgar Allan Poe is the author of this dark twist of the human mind. In the opening he is reading a book to try to keep his mind off of the grief. He is all alone, uneasy, grieving, sorrowful, and is not in his right mind. He starts to hear tappings on his door leading to a dark corridor. He is nervous because he realizes how late it is in the middle of the night. He begins apologizing to the person saying he was napping and goes towards the door slowly. says that the person was tapping to lightly so that is why he didn t hear the tapping at the door. He opens the door and sees no one is there, and the darkness [is] there and nothing more . He mutters Lenore and begins to scare himself, because he is alone and his mind is playing tricks on him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator believes the bird is from the underworld and asks him why it is here. The raven answers nevermore (331). But to turn back to what the raven represents is his fears and doubts. The bird could have flown in and perched itself upon the statue above the man s door. But when the bird answers nevermore, it is coming from the narrator s imagination. Ms. Rodriguez, the Vice President of GF has been directed to decrease loan processing time to 10 days or less with the current staff she has. The Northeast office handles about 35% more applications with essentially the same staff. Only 51% of the applications are processed within the 10 day or less requirement. Analysis of the Current Processing Steps 1. Analysis and evaluation stage is a single channel, interest rate multi channel, loan terms single channel, and final issuing a multichannel. (Exhibit A)The current structure of the analysis and evaluation stage does not maximize staff time effectively and as a consequence creates a bottleneck in the process. With the single channel structure loan applications are unevenly distributed among teams and create higher idle time for teams with less volume of loan applications to process. Utilization among regions varies greatly between 73% 95%. The following observation of the current structure was achieved using the MMK model (See exhibit B): * Expected wait time in the system for an application in Region 1 is approximately 37 days, with actual processing time of 14.10 hours. This is where the bottleneck occurs as it takes the evaluation team over 16 days out of the 37 to perform the review of 78 applications. * Expected wait time in the system for an application in Region 2 is approximately 11 days, with an actual processing time of 13.40 hours. Fair Value Case analysis: Classification of instruments in fair value hierarchy Instrumental 1 In the case, there was a significant decrease in the volume and activity for the instrument because of (1) significant widening of the bid ask spreads in the markets and the widening continued throughout Q4 2012 (2) a significant decrease in the volume of trades comparing with historical level in Q4 (3) no recent transactions. According to 820 10 35 54 c, it was reasonable to determine that market is not active. Then, FFC changed its valuation technique from market approach to income approach (discounted cash flow model). Most relevant inputs in this model were level 3 inputs, because they were estimations and assumptions that were not market based. In other words, such inputs were not observable. So, FFC should classify the ARSs into level 3 of the fair value hierarchy in the fourth quarter. Instrument 4 There were no quoted prices available for X stock, so the measurement did not belong to level 1 of the Fair Value Hierarchy. In addition, because Most of X s competitors are either privately held or subsidiaries of larger publicly traded clothing retailers and the shares of the two similar two companies are thinly traded in an observable market, the market is inactive. FFC also needed some significant assumptions to forecast its cash flows. These assumptions were level 3 inputs in accordance with ASC 820 10 55 e. In the case, FFC should use the multiple techniques and weight more market approach than income approach, because (1) general valuation principle is maximizing the use of relevant observable inputs and minimizing the use of unobservable inputs (2) sufficient data could be used to support both the approaches (3) market participants used multiple techniques to invest similar stock. So, under ASC 820 10 35 37A, FFC should category the investment into level 3 of the fair value hierarchy, in which the lowest level significant inputs are. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By placing such an emphasis on personal ambition it causes some to push their loved ones away in order to achieve what they want. • 9. Compare And Contrast Achilles And Odysseus Achilles and Odysseus are quite different in the way they view combat and take down their enemies. Achilles seems to rely on his physical prowess, often charging in headfirst into battle using surprise and brute force to overpower his opponent whereas Odysseus has a tendency to use his intelligence and cunning nature in both the battlefield and politics as he stealthily plans the demise of his unsuspecting opponent. Gnashing his teeth with rage, Achilles leaped from his chariot, made for his enemy, and lunged out at him with his sword (341). Even when faced with a seemingly invincible assailant, Achilles uses his anger and sheer power to overtake Cycnus and impulsively attacks his unblemished skin in the hopes to end his life. It is Achilles agile and finesse in battle that has led to many victories for him. Even though the reasoning for his actions are more simplistic and even quite animalistic in some scenarios, it is this godlike strength and vicious temper that makes him the physical embodiment of a vengeful hero and in the Greeks stories he possesses all of the physical traits a hero should exemplify. For now Odysseus began to boil with envy and thought up a despicable plan to end his rival (342). • 10. Blue Zone Essay Does Virginia have to potential to have residents who live to be 100+? Mankind has always had an infatuation with the concept of living forever or immortality. We ve had expeditions to search of the fountain of youth within Florida; as well as Linus Paulin thinking he found the key to immortality through vitamins, and later dying from same cancer he claimed vitamins cured (Offit, The Vitamin Myth: Why We Think We Need Supplements. ). Now author and public speaker Dan Buettner found a new lead towards living a longer, healthier life. Buettner tracked down areas that he dubbed Blue Zone, a geographic area of the world where people live measurably longer lives, and thinks these areas hold the key to living a longer life. But does Virginia have potential to hold one of these Blue Zones? No, I don t predict that any community or neighborhood in Virginia could adopt these lifestyles and or cultures. Most Virginia areas lack a sense of community, aren t too social, practice lazy habits, and don t typically have a strong green or healthy diet. It is essential to an individual s spiritual life and their own salvation. It is the freedom to share one s faith and beliefs in their own way. Emily Dickinson s poem Some keep the Sabbath going to Church expresses her own religious beliefs. The poem is a rejection of traditional religious behavior that takes place during her time. She sees religion as a private matter for the individual. The poem indicates that one does not have to attend church in accordance with society to show one s faith and beliefs. She writes, Some keep the Sabbath going to Church / I keep it, staying at Home (lines 1 2). Dickinson compares her home as a place to worship. The feeling one has to conform to a church s Christian views and not their own draw them to worship in their own way. Many choose to stay home and worship as Emily Dickinson did in her poem. Although it is true that society has stereotyped women into traditional roles, this preconceived notion, is totally false. Action to promote the concept of equality in our society needs to be taken. Women have been fighting for equality for many decades. As a result of this battle, some amazing transformations have taken place amongst the female gender. Today s women joining the Canadian Armed Forces are equally eligible with men for combat roles. Over 229,000 women serve on active duty in the military services of the Department of Defense. This monumental step allows women to become takers, as well as producers of life. Women now have equal rights and responsibilities in the defense of our country. These advances have been made, not only on the ground but in the air as well. In 1988, Deanna Brasseur became Canada s first female fighter pilot. That same year, the defense department appointed their first female general, Sheila Hellstrom. The department also stated that women often do better at riflery than men due to the fact that they listen to instruction while men tend to think they know it all. • 17. The Themes Of Altruism In Night By Elie Wiesel Altruism is what separates man from beast. Humans as a species differ from the majority of the animal kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own well being for the benefit of others. To be human is to be compassionate and caring for your fellow man. In Night, Elie Wiesel shows that humanity can be usurped. Subjected to the inhuman conditions of the Nazi concentration camps, his sense of altruism and compassion essentially disappear, leaving only animalistic self interest and the instinct to survive. Not yet exposed to the horrors of the concentration camp, Elie enters Birkenau with his innate senses of compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, Elie witnesses the burning of children, women, and men alike. In response to this horrific sight, Elie becomes doubtful of the reality of the situation and questions, How was it possible... that the world kept silent? (32). As seen in the creation of Night and this question, for Elie, silence is unthinkable. At this point, Elie still holds faith in the power that people hold. However, there is only hope to save these people, if the silence breaks. In addition to this thinking, his tone of disbelief contributes to Elie s demonstration of one of man s most primitive instinct: compassion. This compassion is still strong in Elie, for if it were not, why would he have questioned this so passionately? To cope with the oppressive treatment from the concentration camps officials, Elie s innate senses of compassion and altruism wane. The government of the United States has fought over whether to close down the prison, and bring the inmates onto American soil or to keep the prison open with them over in Guantanamo Bay. The government should not close down the prison because it will put citizens in the U.S. in more danger than before. The immigrants come to USA for a better life so they leave their own country and decide to call it home. Most of the immigrants live in New York in this city, so we can see the variation in people and culture. Basically the immigrants leave their country but they don t leave their culture. They want to maintain their culture and one of the way to maintain their culture is food. Not only that but also many people want to introduce their culture to other, that s why they open restaurant. Sometimes people open a restaurant in a diverse area and they cook food combining the recipe of different countries so the place plays an important role for the people who are not even from that culture. From that, we can see that food can easily combine any culture without changing their own culture. • 24. The Concentration Of Reactants During The Fastest Rate Of... It was hypothesised that the solution at 80 degrees C and the greatest concentration of reactants would result in the fastest rates of reaction and reaction time. This was because of the scientific reasoning that at larger temperatures and concentrations atomic particles collide with greater energy and more frequently. The data collected from the experiment supports the hypothesis. It was observed that the largest concentration of reactants, 0.2M and 0.5M, had the highest reaction rate of 0.00484 mol/L/s, and quickest induction phase, 1 second. Also, the slowest reaction time was 21.51 seconds and was the reaction between KIO3 at 0.05M and Na2S2O5 at 0.125M, which were the smallest amounts of reactant. In addition, the highest temperature tested, which was 80 degrees, produced the fastest reaction time with 4.58 seconds, while 70 degrees ranked close behind in second. These results align with previous data and theories, which state that as temperature and concentration rise, the time it takes to react generally decreases and the reaction rate increases (Wilbraham, 2002), (UC Davis, n.d.). From the testing and results several major trends and relationships were discovered. The first observation, which supports the hypothesis, is the relationship between concentration of reactants and reaction rate. As concentration increased, the reaction rate also increased in direct proportion. This was shown by the results because when the concentrations doubled, from 0.1M and 0.125M to ... It seems that middle class children tend to do better than working class children. Most sociologists believe that in every social class there is the same range of ability, this means that class differences in educational attainment are not due to class differences in intelligence, but due to other circumstances such as the home and socialization. However some sociologists would argue that attainment in classes results from sifting, sorting and assessment of pupils in terms of teacher s perceptions of class, ability and conduct. Throughout this essay, the view that working class underachievers in school is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory states that those at the bottom of the class system are deprived of important values, attitudes, experiences and skills which are essential for educational success. Their home life lacks the kind of stimulation needed for high attainment, for example, the absence of books and educational toys. Basil Bernstein identified two forms of speech pattern, the restricted code and the elaborate code. The restricted code is a kind of shorthand speech. In comparison, in the elaborated code, meanings are made explicit, explanations are provided and details are spelt out. According to Bernstein, most middle class children have been socialised in both the restricted and elaborated codes whereas many working class children are limited to the restricted code. As teachers use the elaborated code, working class children have an immediate disadvantage and may be criticised for misunderstanding. Working class children learn this language code at home, therefore being another reason for underachievement in school being related to home circumstances. Further more, the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu starts from the idea that there is a dominant culture in society. Children born into the middle class have a built in advantage. Their culture is closer to the culture of the school so they will be more likely to succeed, their language is closer to that of the teachers so they will be more likely to ... There are various motives that may have contributed to Iago s distaste for the protagonist Othello. William Shakespeare s Othello focuses on the conflicts surrounding the characters of Othello and Iago, their families, and peers. One of the core reasons Iago was motivated to ruin Otello include his own lust for profit. A second motive was that being evil was simply in his nature, which he admits. The fact that he likes to trick and disserve others for his own enjoyment is also a central motive. These motives are evident throughout the play through the dialogue, symbolism and imagery, and conflict. Iago is a very egotistical and selfish man, and his actions that portray these traits show him being evil for his own profit. He believes he can get ahead in life through the fall of other characters in Othello , such as Cassio and Othello, and their relationships. An instance in which he is motivated by his thirst for success is when he tells Othello s wife Desdemona s father, Brabantio that she is eloping with Othello, who is seen as being of lower status because he is of a different race. The writings of Plato s Republic, Machiavelli s Prince, and Aurelius s Meditations all contain a visions of a leader, but the descriptions of Aurelius are more closely related to what a leader is. There are three impactful minds that affect how people perceive the essence of a leader, and they are Machiavelli, Plato and Marcus Aurelius. In Plato s Republic, Plato describes what he believes a leader to possess. He describes a leader to be the person who understands the forms, and seeks the truth. He calls that person a philosopher king, or a joyful shepherd of sheep. This man/woman is able to determine what is real and what is not. With this ability they are able to lead people with a selflessness that cannot be matched by the other two figures. Moving on to Marcus Aurelius s outlook, the differences show through plainly. Aurelius begins with the definition of stoicism, which is a Greek philosophy that teaches the development of self control and fortitude as a means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exterior walls are divided into two zones by the cornis but no correspondence with the height of the interior cornis. The hemispherical dome has the skylight oculus of 8.9m in diameter. The second level is the re design in 1747, which consists of a row of blind windows alternating with square designs. The real columns and pilasters of lower level are repeated again on the upper walls as graphic images. This kind of design technique, the repeat and the superimpose are frequently used in high Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque and of course in modern age. Hagia Sophia Hagia Sophia was built by Emperor Constantius, son of Emperor Constantinos I, and was opened for services in 360 AD. Although very little is known about this church, it is assumed that it was a basilica type structure with a rectangular floor plan, circular apse and timbered roof. It was similar to St. Studios, a basilica in Istanbul, the ruins of which still exist. Ancient sources emphasize that the eastern wall was circular. Constantius donated gold and silver as well as religious objects to his church, but these were vandalized by Arians during the Council of 381 AD. Hagia Sophia was first named Megale Ekklesia (The Great Church) as it was the largest church in Constantinople. The historian Socrates indicated that the church was named Sophia during the reign of Emperor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Adjustment Bureau Theme I have always believed that everything happens for a reason. Now, I am not saying that I believe that there is a larger plan for everyone s life. To clarify, I believe that there is no such thing as fate. Alternatively the events that happen throughout an individual s life impacts their future in unknown ways. The film The Adjustment Bureau (George Nolfi, 2011) is based on the short story The Adjustment Team . The story was written by Philip K. Dick in 1966. The film s described as an action thriller. It is about a man, who after seeing part of his future goes to great lengths to test his fate: in the hope of being with the woman he loves (The Official Site of The Adjustment Bureau). Matt Damon plays David Norris, a man with a promising political career. He has the potential to become the President of the United States. Emily Blunt plays Elise Sellas, a talented dancer. Elise and David fall in love with after a chance encounter. According to the members of the Adjustment Bureau, David and Elise are not meant to be together. Therefore, the Adjustment Bureau intervenes to keep them on their predetermined life path. David s unwillingness to accept that he and Elise are not meant to be together is the foundation of the movie. Thus, fate seems to be the central theme of the film. Though, I concede that fate is an important aspect of the film. I insist that power relations are also important to the progression of the film. Hats in The Adjustment Bureau are a symbol of a ... • 41. Analysis Of Juggler By Richard Wilbur The poem Juggler describes how the tricks the juggler acts out for the crowd amaze and intrigue them. In the poem Juggler by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery, figurative language and tone to describe the juggler as someone who brings happiness and fun to others. The use of imagery, figurative language, and tone are used to describe the juggler and reveal the speaker s own views about the world. Throughout the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler s appearance and the tricks he is accomplishing in his show. For example, Wilbur states, it takes a sky blue juggler with five red balls...to shake our gravity up. (lines 6 7). The author s description of the juggler as someone who can shake our gravity up (line 7) shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous impact on the audience and the speaker because the audience is full of serious people and the juggler evokes happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the audience is able to get an insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of things happen in the speaker s life that make the speaker happy. Additionally, Wilbur shows the reader the the juggler is performing, the author says, Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom s Balancing up on his nose, and the plate whirls. On the tip of the broom! (lines 9 21). We can see the juggler as he is performing his great trick and how the crowd is happy and amazed at what he is accomplishing through his performance when the author says, Damn, what a show,we cry... ( line 21). Having the crowd cheer at the juggler as he completes his trick of the balancing act showed that people are made happy with small things like the juggling trick the juggler was performing for the crowd. As the poem progresses, we can see how the juggler manipulates the five red balls he is using to move around his body. Richard Wilbur uses figurative language like personification to show how the balls move by the tricks the juggler does. Wilbur says, The balls roll around, wheel on his wheeling hand, learning the ways of lightness, alter to spheres, grazing his finger ends, cling to their course there. ( lines 8 11). The author explains how the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Role Of The 21st Century Public School Superintendent In corporate America, the expectation for a CEO is to increase profits and to project a positive public image for the corporation. The role of the 21st century public school Superintendent often mirrors that of a corporate CEO. The superintendent is responsible for a multi million dollar budget, the management of a large employee pool, and the expectations for high stakes profits are in the form of standardized assessment scores. Just as the CEO is expected to produce an increase in profits, the school Superintendent is accountable for, and is expected to produce, a yearly increase in test scores. Whittle (2005) contrasts the stability of CEOs in major corporations with the stability of superintendents in large urban school districts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kentucky is worth examining as it has a vast rural area and as it was the first state to implement one of the most large scale educational reforms in the country. Purpose of Literature Review The purpose of this Literature Review is to examine the literature related to the question: Does a relationship exist between school superintendent tenure and student academic success? Through this research, the researcher discovered that there is very little research on the topic. Moreover, the research that does exist is focused on large, urban districts. Thus, there is a gap in the literature as it relates to rural schools, such as many of those found in the state of Kentucky. Development of the Superintendent as Instructional Leader The role of the Superintendent has changed dramatically over the years. The office of superintendent as it is known today is much more recent in the history of education in America. Historically, the need for a school district superintendent rose with the growth and the changes in public schools in America. The first position known as school district superintendent was created in the late 1830s. By most accounts, the very first district superintendents were appointed in Buffalo, New York and Louisville, Kentucky (Grieder, Pierce, Jordan, 1969). By 1850, 13 city school districts had created this position (Kowalski, 2006). This new position was necessary to accommodate the changing look of schools (Kowalski, 2006). The shift from ...
