Amount of Sleep and Gpa in Graduate Students at Ohio
E720 Notebook Assignment: Correlation
Kandell 1
Amount of Sleep and GPA in Graduate Students at Ohio University Many graduate students may not
be receiving enough sleep at night. With increased workloads and responsibilities many students are
forced to sacrifice their sleep hours to keep up with the work. This means that students are forced to
stay up later and get up earlier. It has been found that lack of sleep can reduce ones mental capabilities
like a lack of focus. With graduate students getting less sleep it may be possible that they suffer
mentally and see a decline in GPA when compared with someone who receives more sleep. I plan to
research whether there is a relationship between the hours of sleep a student gets and his or ... Show

According to the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute (ACFEI), the term forensic
examiner is broadly applied to scientific and technical professionals who investigate information in

The Development Of East Africa
Over the last five million years, every aspect of East Africa s landscape has undergone a peculiar
change, creating a centrality of evolution in its region. Due to forces exerted by plate tectonics and a
changing climate, East Africa has transformed from a depressed, arboraceous region to an alpine
landscape that is strangely dominated by deep water lakes that tend to appear and disappear
consistently. According to the Huffington Post, it was from this particular area that emerged an ape
smart enough to question its own existence; (Maslin) a clever indication that this area employed the
rise of human beings. Approximately twenty million years ago, the Asian and Indian continental plates
jarred into one another and impelled the Tibetan plateau to move upwards. In the midst of the heated
summertime, this plateau acts as a huge heat engine (Maslin) as it absorbs solar energy that is later
transmitted to the atmosphere; during this process, convection currents are created. With vast amounts
of hot air rising, air from other areas are transported and sucked in, including moist amounts of air
from the Indian Ocean that produces intense South East Asian monsoons (Maslin) . It is this transition
occurring within the air that has drawn out the moisture from African and created a dry climate within
the areas of its eastern regions. Not only is the climate affected by this action, but also evolution as
well. The distinct split that is created between the climates of Asia and

Analysis Of Peaceful Warrior
Dan v.s His Ego Dan s pride and ego gets to the best of him. It makes Dan do things that are out of his
comfort zone. What if Dan had the chance to change that, would he take that opportunity to become
better? In the movie, Peaceful Warrior Dan Millman had the opportunity to change himself for the
better. Dan had the chance to rethink his ways, his actions and do the right things. Throughout the
movie it was Dan v.s his alter ego, but that changed when he meets a man named Socrates. In the
beginning of the movie Dan lets his ego get to the best of him while he was practicing his flips and
tricks on the rings. Dan was trying to practice landing a triple flip on the rings for his big finisher of
his routine. While Dan was on the rings everything was rushing through his head, he was not focused,
he was not determined to land the flip. Dan thought he could make the flip not matter what, but he did
not know that his ego started to come out and take over. For Dan s ego coming out he was not able to
land the triple flip that he wanted to land. When Dan did not make the flip, and fell on his face on the
mate underneath him the coach, Coach Garrick said something like You have a big ego, stop with the
ego, so you can become better and make the landing. What the coach is trying to tell Dan is that is ego
is way too big, he needs to let it go, and his ego is getting in the way of him landing the triple flip and
become better at what he loves to do. Dan starts to think about what Coach Garrick tells him and then
Dan meets an old man named Socrates that helps him start to let go of his ego and his old ways. Later,
in the movie Dan starts to clear his mind and listens to what Socrates has to say, but his ego still
comes and goes. Dan starts to what Socrates tells him to do without getting mad or upset, but his ego
still floats around with him because he still did not take out the trash that s in his head, but during
practice one day he did take out the trash. Dan finally learned how to clear his mind, during tryouts
one day at the California University gym, he got up on the pommel horse and did not think about
anything but just did. Later that night Dan went back to the service station where

Edward Abbey Analysis
Thinking like a mountain by Aldo Leopold, Serpents of Paradise by Edward Abbey, but one of these
essays focuses more on the hunting aspects of life. They both care about the environment. Abbey tries
to find out how to avoid thought of killing an animal but to find any way to keep the wildlife calm and
maintained. They describe both situations very well but one is more careful than the other. In both
Leopold and Abbey essays they want to alter their environment but only Abbey succeeds because only
Abbey has the correct knowledge when it comes to the environment.
People care more about the environment when it comes to their job needing to be able to care about
the environment. Like in the essay Thinking like a Mountain Aldo Leopold went hunting in the forest
that was on a mountain called high rimrock. He has devoted himself to beings a wilderness
preservation and wilderness worker. Aldo Leopold spends most of his time out in the wilderness
hunting and supposed to preserve the wilderness. Edward Abbey writes about his experience as a
ranger at Arches National Monument, Utah. He describes his surroundings as an April morning being
bright, clear and calm. He said that about the afternoon is when it starts to get rough. The wind begins
to blow, raising dust and sand in funnel shaped twisters that spin across that desert briefly, like
dancers, and then collapse elements under stress (52). Both Edward Abbey and Aldo Leopold had jobs
that involved them with the places they write about in the essays. It makes sense to have a job that is
involved with the environment because if they didn t there would a very little chance that anyone
would spend that much time at the desert or the mountains to see an old wolf or a rattle snake that
close to them unless they are lucky when it comes to seeing animals that close.
Leopold, based off the reading he has been hunting for a long time because he goes into detail on the
best ways to hunt deer. He has beliefs that all wolves are detrimental to his hunting experiences, he
says Less wolves equals hunter s paradise (50). Leopold is out in the mountains and saw an old wolf,
and because he believes that if there are no wolves in the area then he will have a lot more deer

The Philippine Insurrection
The Philippine Insurrection of 1899 1902 was a little different than most insurgencies. Using Mao s 3
phases of an insurgency, which I will break down below.
The native demand for liberation from Spain had been building since the 1880s. In 1892 a poor
warehouseman by the name of Andres Bonifacio organized a group called the Katiunan, hoping to
drive the Spaniard s out of the Philippines. As in other insurgencies, we are seeing groups coming
together for the same objective, but not all insurgent groups get along. In 1896 after a reign of terror
against the islanders, Emilio Aguinaldo, a rival group leader, took over leadership by having Bonifacio
executed. The insurgency was forced into the hills, but the fighting continued. The people wanted
Spain out and supported an independent Philippines. In 1897 Spain paid Aguinaldo off to stop the
fighting and sent him to Hong Kong. This put the insurgency back into survival mode and brought a
temporary peace.
Aguinaldo made a pact with the United States which was at war with Spain at the time. With the
assistance of Commodore Dewey they were able to have a decisive victory over the Spanish in
Manila. June 12th then became Philippine Independence Day in 1898. The Americans seemed
reluctant to leave and in December Spain formally ceded the Philippines to the United States in the
Paris Peace Treaty. In January 1899 Aguinaldo staged an inauguration of the First Philippine Republic.
This was an uneasy peace, because what was

Shrek versus Beowulf (Hero s Journey) Joseph Campbell dedicated his whole life researching patterns
that appear in almost every hero story or movie. He discovered that there are a few basics stages that
just about every hero character goes through. This cycle is called the monomyth or more commonly
known as the hero s journey. This paper will compare and contrast Beowulf and Shrek and how each
fits into the monomyth. Every story that involves a hero will subsequently follow the concept of the
Heroes Journey. In both Shrek and Beowulf, crossing the threshold/threshold guardian stage is quite

This stage in Shrek and Beowulf is quite similar once again. Both of the heroes had to fight different
enemies in order to reach the end goal. It just so happens that both of them faced a fire breathing

stage of the heroes journey that will be analyzed using the stories Shrek and Beowulf is the master of

power of buyers is strong since competition is high in this industry. The pickiness of these consumers

Technologically, factors that drive the food and beverage industry are the Internet and affordable
Chinese machineries. New entrants will have the advantage by buying cheaper Chinese machineries,

Citizen Kane Cinematography Analysis
The film Citizen Kane uses stylistic cinematography techniques that help stress both material presence
and textual representation. One of the main techniques used throughout the film is deep focus which
usually makes everything that s in the frame of the shot relevant. This deep focus contributes toward
the viewing of the film as presence and also representation. For example, one could think of the broad
and self conscious use of deep focus...as an attempt to present images that are purely and fully
presence, presenting themselves to the view in their fullness without any added meaning or
interpretation. (commentary) or the deep focus can be looked at as an interpretative point of view.

a position about eye level with Thatcher and Kane s mom, who are sitting near one another at a table

Reserve Grade, Local Australian Rules Football Match in the Eastern Football League
Blackburn Football Club v Balwyn Football Club
5/4/2014
Introduction
Australians are renowned for their passion for sport, in particular, the four main football codes
(Australian Rules football, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Soccer). In terms of the participation rate
among these four codes, Australian Rules Football ranks second behind outdoor soccer, with 419 000

The majority of the individuals who participate in Australian rules football, participate at the local

that has a desire to partake is very much able to at a local level which includes clubs like the
Blackburn and Balwyn Football Clubs. (Shilbury, Deane, Kellett 2006, p. 19)
Thus, the purpose of this report is to analyse different aspects and contributions to a local game of

The Influence of Star Wars in Today´s Culture Essay
Motion Pictures have always had a strong influence in today s culture, but maybe none as prevalent as
Star Wars. Originating with Episode 4 A New Hope, the series boomed from 1977 to 2005 with yet
another addition coming in 2015. The strongest of the series was the original trilogy episodes 4, 5, and

within the 1980s was only the tip of the iceberg. Children and adults alike still anticipate the new

Sexism In Movies
In her October 2016 Ted Talk, activist Stacy Smith presented a problem that has been persistent for
over fifty years. In her discussion, Smith brought to light information about the sexism that is
prevalent in Hollywood. Smith, along with her team, has conducted more than thirty investigations on
the erasing and marginalization of females in the movie industry. Smith discusses how she carries out
her research by cataloguing all speaking characters on screen for race, ethnicity, gender, LGBT, and
characters with disabilities. Smith uses her data to show how much under representation there truly is

Smith states that, Across the top 100 films of just last year, 48 films didn t feature one black or African
American speaking character, and 70 films were devoid of Asian or Asian American speaking
characters that were girls or women (Smith). The discrimination of African Americans, Asians, and
many other races and ethnicities has been somewhat of an epidemic in Hollywood and the film
industry for many years. It is understandable how this topic can upset people and have them pushing
for more ethnic diversity in movies. Although many believe the film industry should include more
diversity, people also must understand that not all characters can be changed just for the sake of
having more diversity in a film. Take historical films for example, directors are not going to make a
historical film with actors that do not fit within the roles of the movie. This is different in the case of
movies like the Spiderman franchise. This franchise had been looking for an actor to continue the
franchise, and had an African American actor in the running for the main role. Even though the
previous films had while actors portray the lead, it would have been completely acceptable for an
African American actor to take over. In the end the Spiderman franchise gave up a wonderful
opportunity to cast an African American actor and help to fight against the diversity

The Twilight Sag Teenage, Vampire, Romance
Twilight Saga: Teenage, Vampire, Romance The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Myer created a massive
fan following that grew into a supernatural franchise. The story of Bella and Edward was in the hands
of countless teenagers and adults alike, captivating audiences with the classic story of young love, but
with a vampire twist. The books were published starting when I was a young teenager, and I was not
immune to the charms of a sparkly vampire fighting his desire for love for the sake of her safety. I
religious read all four books, a few times, until the hard covers cracked at the edges, and the open
books fell open to my favorite parts from being opened for so long. After the books created a
sensation, a movie series was created. In a non surprising fashion, the movies were popular, but as any
book lover will tell you about any movie made after a book, the book was better, way better. Reading
the story at the time, I ignored critics of the book, swearing by its love story and defending the text as
it stood in my world. Re reading this book as an adult who has continued to read, I came to the
realizations that my tastes have evolved over time. I still enjoyed the story during my re read this past
time, but the writing was not as striking; gone was the passion and addiction so deep I could not set
the books down. The first time I read Breaking Dawn, I read it straight it twelve hours not stopping for

The Archetype Of The Noble Savage
What is the Noble Savage? Authors James Fenimore Cooper, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Pontiac,
and Mary Rowlandson seek to answer to that very question in their respective writings. Each author
has a different take on the Noble Savage some focus more on nobility rather than savagery, others do
the inverse, and some have a good balance of the two. When coupled together, the varying viewpoints
lend themselves to paint a great picture of what the Noble Savage truly is: a complex archetype. After
examining each of the works by the authors, I have concluded that the two aspects which make up the
Noble Savage nobility and savagery are found in how they carry themselves, how they live, how they
go about killing and why, and ultimately how they feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, let us examine just how the Noble Savage kills. In Rowlandson s Narrative, she depicts so much
death. Throughout the Narrative, the Noble Savage is said to have burned houses, knocked many
people on the head, chopped people on the head, stripped and split open some who they knocked on
the head, and all the while the Noble Savages would have roared, sung, ranted, and insulted
(Rowlandson 127 129). Now, the reason the Noble Savage kills is hinted at in The Last of the
Mohicans, but it is made explicitly clear in Pontiac s Speech at Detroit. Ultimately, it comes down to
the Noble Savage s hatred for the white man; he/she feels that the white man has corrupted his/her

That is a very long list of medication, has it even been shorter?
Yes, at one point in time there was only one item on that list. In my years being here there has never

The Problem Of Reproducing High Dynamic Range
1 ABSTRACT The problem of reproducing high dynamic range images on devices with restricted
dynamic range has gained a lot of interest in the computer graphics community. In this paper, new
adjustment tone mapping method is presented for displaying high dynamic range image on low
dynamic range device without any lose in image details and preserves image contrast. Instead of
linearly scaling the luminance of all pixels or introduce local gamma correction with adaptive
parameters for all pixels, the paper core idea is using linear operator in specific pixels and using
nonlinear operator in another pixels according to guidance map. The optimal compression can finally
be achieved by solving the optimization problem that integrates all window based constraints which
can be transformed to a sparse linear equation. 2 INTRODUCTION High dynamic range is a digital
photography technique that collect multiple exposures of the same scene where captured with different
exposure settings and merged using image editing camera software to create a more realistic image
called HDR images. The dynamic range of a scene, image or imaging device is defined as the ratio of
the highest to the lowest luminance or signal level. High dynamic range image can capture great
dynamic rage that represents the whole tonal range of real world scenes. HDR image is encoded in a
format that allows the largest range of values using floating point values stored with 32 bits per color
channel, but the modern

Advantages And Disadvantages Of An Airport
An airport is an aerodrome with facilities for commercial aviation flights to take off and land. Airports
often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft, and a control tower. An airport consists of a landing
area, which comprises of an aerially accessible open space including at least one operationally active
surface such as a runway for a plane to take off or a helipad, and often includes adjacent utility
buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals. An international airport has additional
facilities for customs and immigration. Most of the world s airports are owned by local, regional, or
national government bodies. Airport transportation is one of the most crucial components of the
transportation system. Annual passengers enplaned generally ... Show more content on

Ariel Castro s Psychodynamic Perspective
Brief Summary Between the years of 2003 and 2013, Ariel Castro held three young women, Michelle
Knight, Amanda Berry, and Georgina Dejesus, captive. Over the course of the ten years, they were
beaten, raped, and dehumanized in horrifying ways. The young women kept diaries that spoke of the
violence that went on inside of Mr. Castro s house. For example, the women wrote about how he
forced them to be sexually active with him, locked in dark rooms for long periods of time with the
anticipation of abuse awaiting them, being treated like animals, etc. Ariel Castro was a very sick man
as he gained pleasure from watching his victims suffer. Social Culture Perspective The sociocultural

Cochlear Implant History
A cochlear implant is an electronic medical device that does the work of the damaged parts of the
cochlea, which is the inner ear, to provide sound signals to the brain. Cochlear implants were a major
breakthrough in history. There was now a way for people, who have had little or no benefit from
hearing aids, to receive sound. The cochlear implant, which was sometimes called a Bionic Ear could
help some people to hear again.
In 1972 the first single channel cochlear implant was introduced. This provided many deaf people
with better lip reading enhancement. In 1984, a multi channel cochlear implant was introduced. The
difference between the single channel and multi channel implant system was that the single channel
system only delivered sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speech processor is like a computer, it is usually with the microphone behind the ear. The speech
processor analyzes the sound and sends it to the transmitter.
The transmitter is worn on the head just behind the ear, it sends coded signals to the implanted
receiver just under the skin. The receiver takes the coded electrical signals from the transmitter and
takes them to the electrodes which have been surgically implanted in the cochlea. These electrodes
then stimulate the auditory nerve and the sensation of sound in recognized.
Cochlear implants help provide a sense of sound to an individual who is deaf or hard of hearing. They
can help individuals who have hearing loss in both ears or in only one ear. The benefits from a
cochlear implant vary depending on whether the individual had hearing loss before or after developing
language, the individual s age, or the motivation of the individual.
Cochlear implants do not restore normal hearing, but they can help a deaf individual to have an
3
effective representation of sound and help the individual understand speech. Most of the time,
individuals tend to hear better with time and practice.
Some individuals have benefitted from cochlear implants and some have not. There

New Health Care Reform For The United States
New Health Care Reform
In 2014, the US entered into the force sensational health care reform of the protection of patients in
the United States, which is called The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Under this reform,
all the citizens and residents of the country are required to have health insurance. It has also caused
many discussions and opinions among people. Supporters of it say that this is a significant step
forward, since there is no company that can refuse a person in the insurance policy. However,
opponents believe that this reform will only worsen the condition of the Americans. The current health
care reform has its drawbacks, such as increased fees for insurance, and the impossibility of choice,
therefore, it is necessary for change.
Body
The first problem faced by the Americans after the health care reform entered into force, is the growth
of insurance fees. Insurance companies, in order to protect themselves from the increased risk of
payment for the treatment of their clients, have raised fees for their services. Therefore, many healthy
citizens were against this law because they did not want to take payment for the increased risk of
insurance companies. Now, there is a monopoly on the market which allows the companies to set
higher prices, and the government provided them by law that all the citizens will have to buy their
services. Thus, the authorities of the country provided a steady income for their insurance
organizations using the citizens

Complexity Is Defined By The American Heritage Dictionary
Complexity is defined by The American Heritage Dictionary as the state or condition of being intricate
or complex. Something that is complex is further defined as a configuration consisting of
interconnected or interwoven parts that are complicated. Complicated is then defined as that which is
difficult to understand or analyze. And finally by definition, to understand means to know through
experience and comprehend the nature, significance or intended meaning within a causal framework.
It is important to note from the above definitions that complexity does not merely mean not simple . It
is also critical to realize that the complexity of the system must be related to a perspective of
understanding as it related to a logical causal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So these emergent rules of complexity are not strictly physical laws in the Newtonian sense but rather
arise from the logical constructs, functioning and control of the overall system directive which is in
turn dependent on the governance of physical laws.
Note the role of the observer in this definition and the reliance upon its ability to process and interpret
information. Because of this dependence on a capacity of comprehension by the observer, a complex
system can be considered organized or disorganized. Most people would agree that complex systems
usually have many parts. However, the way those parts interrelate might be difficult to discern. In fact,
there is somewhat of a disconnection between complexity and organization that centers around the
observers understanding of the logical causal framework of the system. Warren Weaver posited that
disorganized or disordered complexity exists when there are a large number of parts within the system
that appeared to interact randomly. Like a mixed solution of chemicals in a glass beaker or gas
molecules within a closed container. The emergent properties of such a system (color, temperature,
viscosity, etc.) can be understood by solely using probability and statistical methods to describe the
interactions of the individual components. By contrast organized or ordered complexity

Creating New Services in the Ecotourism Industry
New Service Business Idea
Creating New Services in the Eco Tourism Industry
Executive Summary
There are many possibilities for a new service oriented business. However, one trend that has been
identified is an increased interest in sustainability and people who are becoming more aware of
environmental and social issues. Consumers are increasingly considering factors involving
sustainability into their purchasing decisions. Therefore, it seems reasonable to expect that the niche
referred to as ecotourism will represent one service oriented model that will expand indefinitely. This
growing demographics of consumers that consider environmental and social issues will be demand
innovative and unique opportunities for leisure that are consistent with their perspective. Marketing to
this growing market segment will be a complex task that will require that service providers act
ethically on all fronts. The development of the service strategy must consider all aspects of both social
and environmental impacts of the business and the services they provide. Furthermore, the promotion
of the services must also be consistent with the CSR practices. This analysis will consider industry
environment that would be relevant to a new ecotourism business in the near future.
Introduction
The idea for this service model has been designed around the assumption that corporate social
responsibility (CSR) will be an increasingly salient factor for consumption of various services in the

but there are of course many other ways to look at globalization in the modern world.
I would like to also mention the text A Life of One s Own in a Runaway World by Beck, that focus on
individuals need for freedom, and the dream of being the boss of your own life. I believe that some
would argue, that this new focus on the individual in the western world and less on the development of
society, can have a downside for the part of the world who does not have the means to do the same.
This here would present a picture on how globalization only offers a new field of oppertunity for the
people who have the means to take control of their own lives and only focus on their own individual.
I would argue that depending on which side, because there are many, of globalization you look at, you
can find either a field of oppertunity or a new way to structure old inequalities. Hopefully the closer
we move to a more globalized world, we will experience individuals and society in closer relation to
eachother, and globalization would then be catagorized as a field of oppertunity.

The Role Of Thomas Gage In The Battle Of Concord
The first instance in which American s truly embraced the militaristic tactic of guerrilla warfare was in
the Battles of Lexington and Concord. On April 19, 1775, General Thomas Gage, commander in chief
of British North America, devised a plan in order to provide Britain with the upper hand. He was
going to confiscate a store of munitions in the town of Concord, Massachussetts, as well as, venture to
Lexington, Massachusetts to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams (Boots, 65). Both men were
viewed as agitators against the British cause and Gage wanted them out. However, before Gage could
launch his plan, the plan had gotten out by informants by Joseph Warren, the greatest thought to be
Margaret Kemble Gage, his own wife (Borneman. 127). This ... Show more content on

At Concord, hundreds of miltia and minutemen alike gathered in preparation, they were not going to
go down without a fight (Boots, 66). The British began to retreat and the militia followed them by
flanking them. The Patrios picked them off easily in the narrow roadway as they sought shelter behind
trees, rocks, and tall grass (Inskeep). The British were relatively easy targets due to the brightness of
their scarlet uniforms (Boots, 66). The British suffered a loss of 65 men, with 207 wounded, whereas
the colonists had only lost 49 men, with 44 wounded (Boots, 67). This was the first time the colonists
had utilized guerilla warfare, and it paid off. It played on their strengths, particularly their knowledge
of the land and their ability to use it for their advantage. They learned of a plot, and they quickly and
efficiently devised a way in which to minimize their loses while expanding on their potential gains of
liberty and patriotism. Guerrilla warfare, was the only way that the colonists could have won against
Gage in this instance, and it instill in others that the war tactic in itself was not savage at all, but a

What Is The Definition Of Political Parties
We can define political parties as a confederation of politically active citizens who come together for
the purposes of pushing forward a political agenda. Different parties have different goals. Most of the
parties are created to correct social problems. Some of them form around issues, such as taxation or
civil rights. By comparison with the Europe, democratic countries such Sweden or Russia which have
many different active political parties, the United States has two major parties the Republican Party
and Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party in the United States was established in 1792. This is oldest party in the world.
Before the First World War Democrats were not positively minded towards government. Only the

brings these experiments to life by taking his readers on scientific trip. The book featured scientist
such as Galileo, Isaac Newton, Ivan Pavlov, William Harvey, and Luigi Galvani. And these are a few

Pavlov was a well known surgeon in Europe. In his early years he wanted to become a priest but
discovered Charles Darwin whom changed his life. With his new calling in science, Pavlov began to
work with animals especially dogs. He was fascinated by dogs and even gave them names. Johnson
states that Pavlov felt the need to save the dogs from being slaughter for foods or hunted for personal
reasons. In his most remarkable experiment, Pavlov used a bell to train the dogs to salivate. Naturally,
dogs salivate when they eat to help them swallow food. This is known as the unconditioned response
because it is happening automatically. A few trials later, the dog associates the ringing bell with food.
This is known as the conditioned stimulus because the dog finally learned to associate the ring of the
bell with food. Unconditioned stimulus happens when the dog salivates from eating. From now on
every time the bell rings, the dog thought it was going to get food because that is what the dog has
become used to. Immediately, the dog begins salivating by just hearing the ringing bell whether the
dog saw any food or not. This is called a conditioned response, because the dog salivates by learning
to associate the bell ringing with food. Pavlov simply studied reflexes, automatic behavior that is
caused by a stimulus from the environment. According to Johnson, during the experiment Pavlov
rarely used the bell. Later in his life, Pavlov was giving an album with all the photographs of his dogs
by his students. Also in 1935, he was honored with a statue called a monument to a dog. On top of the
statue there was a water fountain which symbolizes the dog

Improving Decision Tree Performance Methods
There are several improvement methods are available to improve decision tree performance in terms
of accuracy, and modelling time. Since experimenting with every available method is impossible,
some of the methods are selected that are proven to increase decision tree performances. Selected
improvement methods and their experimental setups are presented in this chapter.
4.1 Correlation Based Feature Selection
Feature selection is a method used for reducing number of dimensions of a dataset by removing
irrelevant and redundant attributes. Given a set of attributes F and a target class C, goal of feature
selection is to find a minimum set of F that will yield highest accuracy (for C) for the classification
task. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, method is performing well for C4.5 algorithm is likely to perform well for ID3 algorithm.
Previous studies show that CFS method increases accuracy for CART algorithm although not as much
as the C4.5 algorithm does (Doraisamy et al., 2008).
CFS uses a search algorithm and feature evaluation algorithm which uses a heuristic that measures
goodness of attributes subsets. Hall and Smith (1998) define this goodness heuristic as Good feature
subsets contain features highly correlated with the class, yet uncorrelated with each other. Equation 1
below shows heuristic formula. G_x=(k¯(r_ci ))/√(k+k(k 1)¯(r_ii ))
Where G_x is the heuristic of goodness of an attribute subset x that contains k features, ¯(r_ci ) is
average attribute class correlation which points predictive power of the attribute subset to a class, and
¯(r_ii ) is average attribute inter correlation that indicates the redundancy among attributes.
A version of correlation based attribute selection to be included in experiment setup is called Fast
Correlation Based Feature Selection (FCBF) that initially developed by Yu and Liu (2004). This
algorithm is preferred over other available correlation based attribute selection algorithms since while
other implementations of CFS using forward sequential or greedy search methods (e.g. MRMR/CFS

Gods of the Hawaiians Essay
The Hawaiian Islands are well known for their beauty, tranquility, and unique culture that have shaped
this state into what we see today. The special bond that the natives have formed between themselves
and nature is not exactly one of a kind, but it is something that can truly be admired. Around
approximately 300 AD, Hawaii was discovered by Polynesians who arrived by canoe from Tahiti.
These migrants brought their polytheistic spirituality and formed a large intricate society with
hierarchies consisting of many chiefs. Alongside the ruling of the chiefs, the newborn Hawaiians
followed a strict belief system known as Kapu akua otherwise known as the law of the gods . The
Kapu was a strict set of rules and restraints that dictated all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The strict Kapu made everyday Hawaiian life extremely difficult to live. Offenders were often
punished severely with either corporal punishment or sacrificed to honor the gods. If the offense was
great enough, on occasion, the family of the offender was also sentenced to death. Although,
punishment to defectors was harsh, they often had a chance to redeem themselves. It is said that those
who offended could flee to a city of refuge where they had a ritual performed by shamans in order to
clean oneself of sin and escape death. Ancient Hawaiians worshipped many gods and demi gods. The
main god known as Kane, represented life and nature while Ku, represented death and war. According
to the Kumuhonua Legend: he [Kane] formed the three worlds: the upper heaven of the gods, the
lower heaven above the earth and the earth itself as a garden for mankind; the latter he furnished with
sea creatures, plants, and animals and fashioned men and women to inhabit it (Beckwith). It was
believed that each family had its own personal god to protect them. Personal gods were thought to live
vicariously through the animals that surrounded the islands such as the shark or pig. Through these
very same animals, it was also believed that families could communicate with the spirits of the
deceased. Many temples known as Heiaus as well as other methods were created in order to worship

Linear Perspective In Art Analysis
Every artist has his own emotional relationship with his artworks that makes his art distinct with the
emotions the observer manifests when they perceive it. An artist s connection with his artwork would
result to a distinct perspective. Perspective is a technique in art which creates an illusion of three
dimension on a two dimensional surface. It makes a painting seem real. Linear perspective in Western
art prospered in the early 15th century. It was used in plotting and determining where things should
lead. Leon Battista Alberti, a Renaissance artist and Filippo Brunelleschi, an architect were the
innovators of linear perspective. Up to now, artists are still using Alberti s one vanishing point system
(Evans, 2015). Perspective in painting is used to establish the view from which the expert or observer

Indeed, there exists the realm of thoughts, realm of the sentiments, realm of creativity and the realm of
the ego. These words live inside every person since everyone knows inner proofs which the artists
could see to be noticeable and constant. For instance, the famous painting Starry Night created by
Vincent van Gogh was painted at a crucial time. For a long time, his art had been a battlefield amidst
fact and feeling, amidst the outer world of perception which is painted by an impressionist and the
inner world of sentiment which is painted by an expressionist. But in the painting Starry Night ,
expressionism took place (Barr, 1988). According to Gould (2014), one should alter the manner he
thinks about traditional and digital channels but determine what role one has to perform and the way
they should be used efficiently. In the same way, the students create things through the use of

Declaration Of Sentiments Analysis
Like any major changes that happen within a society, there are usually people who have fought long
and hard, or perhaps, have held powerful positions which enabled them to facilitate change. There
were many women in history who were brave enough to speak against their religion and offer new
teachings, women who were bold enough to bear arms, women in power who used their voice to speak
against sexisism, and a woman who understood what it meant to live in two cultures and plainly prefer
one over the other. Anne Hutchinson was a puritan living in the mid 1600s and left England to lead a
new life in America (Kendall 14). She thought she would have more freedom in America, but she soon
discovered that religious freedom did not exist. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton met at a temperance meeting and were both appalled at the fact
that they were not allowed to speak (Rossi 11). Stanton convinced Anthony to join her in the women s
rights movement. Stanton needed someone to deliver her speeches because she was encouraged to
spend more time at home with her family. Stanton had a large family so she had little time to travel
and lecture, (Kendall 41). Stanton wanted to share her own ideas with other people, but her father and
husband didn t approve of her sharing any speeches or writings in public. This was similar to a
situation the Grimke Sisters were in when people didn t appreciate and approve of the fact that they
were speaking their ideas out in the public (Deverell and White). Anthony Anthony had lots of spare
time because she didn t have a family, therefore, she could dedicate her spare time to helping the
cause. Anthony and Stanton started a partnership together and ended up working with one another for
about fifty years (Rossi 11). After helping with Stanton s public speeches, the two women continued
working together to bring awareness to women s rights. Stanton and Anthony wrote an article together
on divorces and how they hated males. This was especially a big shocker to people back in the 1800s
(Rossi 15). Together, Stanton and Anthony started the NWSA, or the National Woman Suffrage
Association which, worked for a Constitutional amendment to give women the right to vote in

The rhyme, the repetition of similar sounds, is one of the easiest sounds devices to spot. Poe added
variety by using internal rhyme, rhyming words that fall inside a line. For example, Ah, distinctly I
remember it was in the bleak December; The repetition, of rhymes and of words and phrases, helps
give The Raven its distinctive rhythm. For instance, As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my
chamber door. The alliteration, the repetition of initial consonant sounds, is used to create rhythm or to
stress key words. In the poem, While I nodded, nearly happing... The onomatopoeia, is the use of
words that sound like their meaning, such as the word rustling in the poem, And the silken, sad,

  • 6. The Development Of East Africa Over the last five million years, every aspect of East Africa s landscape has undergone a peculiar change, creating a centrality of evolution in its region. Due to forces exerted by plate tectonics and a changing climate, East Africa has transformed from a depressed, arboraceous region to an alpine landscape that is strangely dominated by deep water lakes that tend to appear and disappear consistently. According to the Huffington Post, it was from this particular area that emerged an ape smart enough to question its own existence; (Maslin) a clever indication that this area employed the rise of human beings. Approximately twenty million years ago, the Asian and Indian continental plates jarred into one another and impelled the Tibetan plateau to move upwards. In the midst of the heated summertime, this plateau acts as a huge heat engine (Maslin) as it absorbs solar energy that is later transmitted to the atmosphere; during this process, convection currents are created. With vast amounts of hot air rising, air from other areas are transported and sucked in, including moist amounts of air from the Indian Ocean that produces intense South East Asian monsoons (Maslin) . It is this transition occurring within the air that has drawn out the moisture from African and created a dry climate within the areas of its eastern regions. Not only is the climate affected by this action, but also evolution as well. The distinct split that is created between the climates of Asia and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Analysis Of Peaceful Warrior Dan v.s His Ego Dan s pride and ego gets to the best of him. It makes Dan do things that are out of his comfort zone. What if Dan had the chance to change that, would he take that opportunity to become better? In the movie, Peaceful Warrior Dan Millman had the opportunity to change himself for the better. Dan had the chance to rethink his ways, his actions and do the right things. Throughout the movie it was Dan v.s his alter ego, but that changed when he meets a man named Socrates. In the beginning of the movie Dan lets his ego get to the best of him while he was practicing his flips and tricks on the rings. Dan was trying to practice landing a triple flip on the rings for his big finisher of his routine. While Dan was on the rings everything was rushing through his head, he was not focused, he was not determined to land the flip. Dan thought he could make the flip not matter what, but he did not know that his ego started to come out and take over. For Dan s ego coming out he was not able to land the triple flip that he wanted to land. When Dan did not make the flip, and fell on his face on the mate underneath him the coach, Coach Garrick said something like You have a big ego, stop with the ego, so you can become better and make the landing. What the coach is trying to tell Dan is that is ego is way too big, he needs to let it go, and his ego is getting in the way of him landing the triple flip and become better at what he loves to do. Dan starts to think about what Coach Garrick tells him and then Dan meets an old man named Socrates that helps him start to let go of his ego and his old ways. Later, in the movie Dan starts to clear his mind and listens to what Socrates has to say, but his ego still comes and goes. Dan starts to what Socrates tells him to do without getting mad or upset, but his ego still floats around with him because he still did not take out the trash that s in his head, but during practice one day he did take out the trash. Dan finally learned how to clear his mind, during tryouts one day at the California University gym, he got up on the pommel horse and did not think about anything but just did. They both care about the environment. Abbey tries to find out how to avoid thought of killing an animal but to find any way to keep the wildlife calm and maintained. They describe both situations very well but one is more careful than the other. In both Leopold and Abbey essays they want to alter their environment but only Abbey succeeds because only Abbey has the correct knowledge when it comes to the environment. People care more about the environment when it comes to their job needing to be able to care about the environment. Like in the essay Thinking like a Mountain Aldo Leopold went hunting in the forest that was on a mountain called high rimrock. He has devoted himself to beings a wilderness preservation and wilderness worker. Aldo Leopold spends most of his time out in the wilderness hunting and supposed to preserve the wilderness. Edward Abbey writes about his experience as a ranger at Arches National Monument, Utah. He describes his surroundings as an April morning being bright, clear and calm. He said that about the afternoon is when it starts to get rough. The wind begins to blow, raising dust and sand in funnel shaped twisters that spin across that desert briefly, like dancers, and then collapse elements under stress (52). Both Edward Abbey and Aldo Leopold had jobs that involved them with the places they write about in the essays. It makes sense to have a job that is involved with the environment because if they didn t there would a very little chance that anyone would spend that much time at the desert or the mountains to see an old wolf or a rattle snake that close to them unless they are lucky when it comes to seeing animals that close. Leopold, based off the reading he has been hunting for a long time because he goes into detail on the best ways to hunt deer. He has beliefs that all wolves are detrimental to his hunting experiences, he says Less wolves equals hunter s paradise (50). Leopold is out in the mountains and saw an old wolf, and because he believes that if there are no wolves in the area then he will have a lot more deer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Philippine Insurrection The Philippine Insurrection of 1899 1902 was a little different than most insurgencies. Using Mao s 3 phases of an insurgency, which I will break down below. The native demand for liberation from Spain had been building since the 1880s. In 1892 a poor warehouseman by the name of Andres Bonifacio organized a group called the Katiunan, hoping to drive the Spaniard s out of the Philippines. As in other insurgencies, we are seeing groups coming together for the same objective, but not all insurgent groups get along. In 1896 after a reign of terror against the islanders, Emilio Aguinaldo, a rival group leader, took over leadership by having Bonifacio executed. The insurgency was forced into the hills, but the fighting continued. The people wanted Spain out and supported an independent Philippines. In 1897 Spain paid Aguinaldo off to stop the fighting and sent him to Hong Kong. This put the insurgency back into survival mode and brought a temporary peace. Aguinaldo made a pact with the United States which was at war with Spain at the time. With the assistance of Commodore Dewey they were able to have a decisive victory over the Spanish in Manila. June 12th then became Philippine Independence Day in 1898. The Americans seemed reluctant to leave and in December Spain formally ceded the Philippines to the United States in the Paris Peace Treaty. In January 1899 Aguinaldo staged an inauguration of the First Philippine Republic. This was an uneasy peace, because what was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the main techniques used throughout the film is deep focus which usually makes everything that s in the frame of the shot relevant. For example, one could think of the broad and self conscious use of deep focus...as an attempt to present images that are purely and fully presence, presenting themselves to the view in their fullness without any added meaning or interpretation. In her discussion, Smith brought to light information about the sexism that is prevalent in Hollywood. Smith discusses how she carries out her research by cataloguing all speaking characters on screen for race, ethnicity, gender, LGBT, and characters with disabilities. The discrimination of African Americans, Asians, and many other races and ethnicities has been somewhat of an epidemic in Hollywood and the film industry for many years. It is understandable how this topic can upset people and have them pushing for more ethnic diversity in movies. Although many believe the film industry should include more diversity, people also must understand that not all characters can be changed just for the sake of having more diversity in a film. Take historical films for example, directors are not going to make a historical film with actors that do not fit within the roles of the movie. This is different in the case of movies like the Spiderman franchise. This franchise had been looking for an actor to continue the franchise, and had an African American actor in the running for the main role. Even though the previous films had while actors portray the lead, it would have been completely acceptable for an African American actor to take over. The Twilight Sag Teenage, Vampire, Romance Twilight Saga: Teenage, Vampire, Romance The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Myer created a massive fan following that grew into a supernatural franchise. The story of Bella and Edward was in the hands of countless teenagers and adults alike, captivating audiences with the classic story of young love, but with a vampire twist. The books were published starting when I was a young teenager, and I was not immune to the charms of a sparkly vampire fighting his desire for love for the sake of her safety. I religious read all four books, a few times, until the hard covers cracked at the edges, and the open books fell open to my favorite parts from being opened for so long. After the books created a sensation, a movie series was created. In a non surprising fashion, the movies were popular, but as any book lover will tell you about any movie made after a book, the book was better, way better. Reading the story at the time, I ignored critics of the book, swearing by its love story and defending the text as it stood in my world. Re reading this book as an adult who has continued to read, I came to the realizations that my tastes have evolved over time. I still enjoyed the story during my re read this past time, but the writing was not as striking; gone was the passion and addiction so deep I could not set the books down. Authors James Fenimore Cooper, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Pontiac, and Mary Rowlandson seek to answer to that very question in their respective writings. Each author has a different take on the Noble Savage some focus more on nobility rather than savagery, others do the inverse, and some have a good balance of the two. When coupled together, the varying viewpoints lend themselves to paint a great picture of what the Noble Savage truly is: a complex archetype. In this paper, new adjustment tone mapping method is presented for displaying high dynamic range image on low dynamic range device without any lose in image details and preserves image contrast. Instead of linearly scaling the luminance of all pixels or introduce local gamma correction with adaptive parameters for all pixels, the paper core idea is using linear operator in specific pixels and using nonlinear operator in another pixels according to guidance map. The optimal compression can finally be achieved by solving the optimization problem that integrates all window based constraints which can be transformed to a sparse linear equation. 2 INTRODUCTION High dynamic range is a digital photography technique that collect multiple exposures of the same scene where captured with different exposure settings and merged using image editing camera software to create a more realistic image called HDR images. The dynamic range of a scene, image or imaging device is defined as the ratio of the highest to the lowest luminance or signal level. The current health care reform has its drawbacks, such as increased fees for insurance, and the impossibility of choice, therefore, it is necessary for change. Body The first problem faced by the Americans after the health care reform entered into force, is the growth of insurance fees. Insurance companies, in order to protect themselves from the increased risk of payment for the treatment of their clients, have raised fees for their services. Therefore, many healthy citizens were against this law because they did not want to take payment for the increased risk of insurance companies. And finally by definition, to understand means to know through experience and comprehend the nature, significance or intended meaning within a causal framework. Because of this dependence on a capacity of comprehension by the observer, a complex system can be considered organized or disorganized. Most people would agree that complex systems usually have many parts. However, the way those parts interrelate might be difficult to discern. In fact, there is somewhat of a disconnection between complexity and organization that centers around the observers understanding of the logical causal framework of the system. Warren Weaver posited that disorganized or disordered complexity exists when there are a large number of parts within the system that appeared to interact randomly. IFN4 Database Paper We used a database of 26,838 wildfire reports obtained from the Rural Affairs Department of the Regional Government (Xunta de Galicia), and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA) from the period January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2011. Forest fire reports list general information including location, date, and causes and motivations. Only fires affecting wildland vegetation are included in this database. We evaluated the coordinates of fire ignition points by checking the agreement between those coordinates and the parish and municipality given in fire reports, using topographic maps (National Topographic Map Series, IGN, scale 1:25,000) and the burned areas as visually identified in Landsat 5 TM images taken in different ... We determined the LULC type using information from the Fourth National Forest Inventory (IFN4, MAGRAMA 2011), regrouping the original IFN4 classes into a total of 11 classes (see Table 2), using information on the cover of trees, shrubs and herbs (grasses and forbs) and the identity of the three dominant tree species and their relative dominance, as provided in the IFN4. Areas with no or very scarce vegetation (e.g., water bodies, beaches, or artificial surfaces such as industrial or urban areas) were excluded, as well as the less frequent LULCs (grasslands, Mediterranean forests and Acacia woods), due to the low number of fires in WUI in these categories. Topographic variables were calculated using the Spatial Analyst extension to ArcGIS® 10.2.2 by ESRI to derive the slope, elevation and aspect, based on a 10 m spatial resolution digital elevation model (DEM, 1:5,000 scale), developed by SITGA (Galician Territorial Information System). The slope was defined as a percentage and elevation in meters. Aspect was defined as the compass direction that the slope faces: N (315º to 360º and 0º to 45º), W (45º to 135º), S (135º to 225º) or E (225º to 315º) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. The Role Of Thomas Gage In The Battle Of Concord The first instance in which American s truly embraced the militaristic tactic of guerrilla warfare was in the Battles of Lexington and Concord. On April 19, 1775, General Thomas Gage, commander in chief of British North America, devised a plan in order to provide Britain with the upper hand. He was going to confiscate a store of munitions in the town of Concord, Massachussetts, as well as, venture to Lexington, Massachusetts to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams (Boots, 65). Both men were viewed as agitators against the British cause and Gage wanted them out. However, before Gage could launch his plan, the plan had gotten out by informants by Joseph Warren, the greatest thought to be Margaret Kemble Gage, his own wife (Borneman. 127). This ... The British began to retreat and the militia followed them by flanking them. The Patrios picked them off easily in the narrow roadway as they sought shelter behind trees, rocks, and tall grass (Inskeep). The British were relatively easy targets due to the brightness of their scarlet uniforms (Boots, 66). The British suffered a loss of 65 men, with 207 wounded, whereas the colonists had only lost 49 men, with 44 wounded (Boots, 67). This was the first time the colonists had utilized guerilla warfare, and it paid off. It played on their strengths, particularly their knowledge of the land and their ability to use it for their advantage. They learned of a plot, and they quickly and efficiently devised a way in which to minimize their loses while expanding on their potential gains of liberty and patriotism. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pavlov was a well known surgeon in Europe. In his early years he wanted to become a priest but discovered Charles Darwin whom changed his life. With his new calling in science, Pavlov began to work with animals especially dogs. He was fascinated by dogs and even gave them names. Johnson states that Pavlov felt the need to save the dogs from being slaughter for foods or hunted for personal reasons. In his most remarkable experiment, Pavlov used a bell to train the dogs to salivate. Naturally, dogs salivate when they eat to help them swallow food. This is known as the unconditioned response because it is happening automatically. A few trials later, the dog associates the ringing bell with food. This is known as the conditioned stimulus because the dog finally learned to associate the ring of the bell with food. Unconditioned stimulus happens when the dog salivates from eating. From now on every time the bell rings, the dog thought it was going to get food because that is what the dog has become used to. Immediately, the dog begins salivating by just hearing the ringing bell whether the dog saw any food or not. This is called a conditioned response, because the dog salivates by learning to associate the bell ringing with food. Pavlov simply studied reflexes, automatic behavior that is caused by a stimulus from the environment. According to Johnson, during the experiment Pavlov rarely used the bell. Later in his life, Pavlov was giving an album with all the photographs of his dogs by his students. Also in 1935, he was honored with a statue called a monument to a dog. Since experimenting with every available method is impossible, some of the methods are selected that are proven to increase decision tree performances. Selected improvement methods and their experimental setups are presented in this chapter. 4.1 Correlation Based Feature Selection Feature selection is a method used for reducing number of dimensions of a dataset by removing irrelevant and redundant attributes. Given a set of attributes F and a target class C, goal of feature selection is to find a minimum set of F that will yield highest accuracy (for C) for the classification task. Although ... Previous studies show that CFS method increases accuracy for CART algorithm although not as much as the C4.5 algorithm does (Doraisamy et al., 2008). CFS uses a search algorithm and feature evaluation algorithm which uses a heuristic that measures goodness of attributes subsets. Hall and Smith (1998) define this goodness heuristic as Good feature subsets contain features highly correlated with the class, yet uncorrelated with each other. Equation 1 below shows heuristic formula. G_x=(k¯(r_ci ))/√(k+k(k 1)¯(r_ii )) Where G_x is the heuristic of goodness of an attribute subset x that contains k features, ¯(r_ci ) is average attribute class correlation which points predictive power of the attribute subset to a class, and ¯(r_ii ) is average attribute inter correlation that indicates the redundancy among attributes. A version of correlation based attribute selection to be included in experiment setup is called Fast Correlation Based Feature Selection (FCBF) that initially developed by Yu and Liu (2004). This algorithm is preferred over other available correlation based attribute selection algorithms since while other implementations of CFS using forward sequential or greedy search methods (e.g. MRMR/CFS developed by Schoewe, ... The special bond that the natives have formed between themselves and nature is not exactly one of a kind, but it is something that can truly be admired. Around approximately 300 AD, Hawaii was discovered by Polynesians who arrived by canoe from Tahiti. These migrants brought their polytheistic spirituality and formed a large intricate society with hierarchies consisting of many chiefs. It is said that those who offended could flee to a city of refuge where they had a ritual performed by shamans in order to clean oneself of sin and escape death. Ancient Hawaiians worshipped many gods and demi gods. The main god known as Kane, represented life and nature while Ku, represented death and war. According to the Kumuhonua Legend: he [Kane] formed the three worlds: the upper heaven of the gods, the lower heaven above the earth and the earth itself as a garden for mankind; the latter he furnished with sea creatures, plants, and animals and fashioned men and women to inhabit it (Beckwith). Linear Perspective In Art Analysis Every artist has his own emotional relationship with his artworks that makes his art distinct with the emotions the observer manifests when they perceive it. An artist s connection with his artwork would result to a distinct perspective. Perspective is a technique in art which creates an illusion of three dimension on a two dimensional surface. It makes a painting seem real. Linear perspective in Western art prospered in the early 15th century. It was used in plotting and determining where things should lead. Leon Battista Alberti, a Renaissance artist and Filippo Brunelleschi, an architect were the innovators of linear perspective.
